2024.05.21 13:10 soppppppppppp I'm struggling to find ECT jobs in Melbourne

About me: I have bachelor's in marketing and did a career change to teaching. I graduated 2 years ago with 0 experience in ECE so I took whatever offer was on the table and ended up in LDC. After a while, I quited because the management sucked and parents just thought of childcare kinder as a place to watch their children while they were at work. From there, I've been specifically looking at jobs at sessional kinder and schools, and applied for both ECT or co-educator roles. I got a lot of interviews but never success in getting the role. What am I doing wrong? Is it because I don't have experience? Government keeps saying we're having teacher shortage but here I am, a teacher without job. How ridiculous!!! THIS hopelessness is what is driving me out of the teaching profession, not the stress and workload :(

2024.05.21 13:10 One-Secretary9595 I am extremely lonely and it's destroying my life, Please help me

I (18M) am extremely lonely and it's destroying my life. It is reduced my productivity drastically. I have no friends now although I did had few in the past.I have really big dreams and I want to work toward it but I am not been able do anything because of my loneliness. When I was in my 9 grade my grades were very high and then it drastically reduced because I couldn't make any good friend. I have finished my high school this year with really bad grade and I really hurt me because I knew that I had the potential to ace the exam but I didn't even try. I wasted 2 years of my life doing Nothing ( just using my phone ). It's not like I couldn't make friend's but I always tried to look for someone who would have similar thinking like me and who would also share the same dream and also tried to look for someone very intelligent(and I know some people could say, who do you think you are? Like do you think you a genius or someone special, narcissitic asshle and bla bla bla kind of sht), I said what I felt like. I wanna be a filmmaker. It's a kind of career which doesn't really have a straightforward path but I still wanna do it. I wanna and will be writing amazing movie script's and learning how to use a camera but I feel like the onlythinkg that stop me is loneliness (and little lack of money but I think I can get over it except loneliness which doesn't seem to go away. I mean it like , I wake up alone, eat alone and and walk alone and also watch movie in theatre alone and I don't feel like studying (which will ruin my life). Everyday I just feel like me me me and I sometimes dwell into nihilism and get very pessimistic about life. I more thing I wanted to study in the united states for my bachelors but I could afford it and will be doing it in india which led me to a lot of hopelessness but will be doing my master in germany as there is free education (I hope) and learn about filmmaking too. Please help me, guide me, what should I do, I was unable to find content on "loneliness affecting studies, dreams and goals" on youtube. There was nobody sharing their experience on it.

2024.05.21 13:04 carrotnose258 Wake up babe, new Ono email dropped

Faculty, students and staff:
The war in Gaza and reactions to it have proven challenging, not just for our university community, but for universities and other institutions both in our country and around the world. Times like these are exactly why freedom of expression is so important and must be honored at public institutions like the University of Michigan. When it comes to freedom of speech, the right to assemble, and the right to protest peacefully, the University’s commitment has been, and will remain, unwavering. Particularly on a university campus, where we are educating young people to become thoughtful citizens, the importance of these freedoms cannot be overstated and, at the University of Michigan, we have a proud history of honoring them and will continue to do so. But those rights are not limitless. The university can and must regulate the time, place, and manner of expression to ensure one group’s right to protest does not infringe on the rights of others, endanger our community or disrupt the operations of the university.
Ensuring that the campus is safe – for students, faculty, employees, university visitors, and protestors – is a paramount concern, which is why the university has provided 24-hour security for the encampment over the past four weeks. Following a May 17 inspection by the university fire marshal, who determined that were a fire to occur, a catastrophic loss of life was likely, the fire marshal and Student Life leaders asked camp occupants to remove external camp barriers, refrain from overloading power sources, and stop using open flames. The protesters refused to comply with these requests. That forced the university to take action and this morning, we removed the encampment.
The disregard for safety directives was only the latest in a series of troubling events centered on an encampment that has always violated the rules that govern the Diag – especially the rules that ensure the space is available to everyone.
Moving forward, individuals will be welcome to protest as they always have at the University of Michigan, so long as those protests don’t violate the rights of others and are consistent with university policies meant to ensure the safety of our community. To be clear, there is no place for violence or intimidation at the University of Michigan. Such behavior will not be tolerated, and individuals will be held accountable.
We appreciate that different points of view will continue to be expressed on campus and in our community more broadly, and we are taking steps to broaden the dialogue around these critical matters. In the upcoming year, we will support multiple opportunities to discuss and debate complicated issues, including the war in the Middle East, and explore how universities can contribute to a common path forward in the "Year of Democracy and Civic Engagement."
We must find productive ways to engage with one another. We must leverage facts and reason in a spirit of open debate and find ways to work toward solutions. If we can manage to do that here – a place that is home to some of the most brilliant minds in the country – then our state, nation, and world will continue to benefit from the diverse perspectives that our university brings together on the most important issues of our day.
Sincerely,
Santa J. Ono President

2024.05.21 13:02 Comfortable_Fish_616 Tips about career and financial stuffs

Hi,
I'm Daniel from Spain, and I'll be turning 15 this month. With my birthday coming up, I've been thinking a lot about my future. Like many others my age, I don't really have any clear ideas about what I want to be when I grow up, and I know very little about financial matters. For example, I'm unsure about things like banks, credit cards, interest, rent, and managing money.
In school, I'm taking a course called "Informatik" (Computer Science). I'm interested in it, but I'm not sure if I'm creative enough to pursue a career in this field. I also play football as a hobby, but I don't think it’s a viable career path for me.
I moved to Germany three years ago and have learned the language quite well. I'm currently attending a Realschule, and if everything goes well, I have two more years to go. I know I need to decide what kind of place I want to study at next, but I’m not sure about my options and what they involve.
My main goal is to have a stable life. I don’t aspire to be a millionaire, but I definitely don't want to end up homeless. This is why I need to understand financial matters better. My parents say that many parents expect their children to start living independently once they turn 18. I want to be prepared for that.
My parents, who are from Africa, didn't have the same educational opportunities that I have. I don’t want to work extremely long hours just to make ends meet. I also don’t plan to have a partner right now, as I’ve heard that can be expensive.
So, if anyone reads this, could you please give me some tips on choosing a career and managing finances effectively? I’d really appreciate any advice.
Thank you,
Daniel

2024.05.21 12:46 Yurii_S_Kh Venerable Arsenius the Great

Venerable Arsenius the Great
https://preview.redd.it/0xonnvuydr1d1.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7cae63216b9df0cf2a8903dee4df36998d83d808
Saint Arsenius the Great was born in the year 354 at Rome into a pious Christian family, which provided him a fine education and upbringing. He studied rhetoric and philosophy, and mastered the Latin and Greek languages. Saint Arsenius gave up philosophy and the vanity of worldly life, seeking instead the true wisdom praised by Saint James “pure, peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits” (Jas. 3:17). He entered the ranks of the clergy as a deacon in one of the Roman churches, dedicating himself to the service of God.
The emperor Theodosius (379-395), who ruled the eastern half of the Roman Empire, heard about his erudition and piety, and he wished to entrust Arsenius with the education of his sons Arcadius and Honorius. Arsenius, however, protested that he had given up secular studies in order to serve God. Against his will, but in obedience to the will of Pope Damasus (December 11), Saint Arsenius agreed to teach the imperial children, hoping to teach them Christian piety as well.
When he arrived at Constantinople, Arsenius was received with great honor by the emperor Theodosius, who charged him to educate his sons not only in wisdom, but also in piety, guarding them from the temptations of youth. “Forget that they are the emperor’s sons,” said Theodosius, “for I want them to submit to you in all things, as to their father and teacher.”
With fervor the saint devoted himself to the education of the youths, but the high esteem in which he was held troubled his spirit, which yearned for the quietude of monastic life. Saint Arsenius entreated the Lord to show him the way to salvation. The Lord heard his prayer and one time he heard a voice telling him, “Arsenius, flee from men, and you shall be saved.” And then, removing his rich clothing and replacing it with old and tattered garments, he secretly left the palace, boarded a ship for Alexandria, and he made his way to Sketis, a monastery in the midst of the desert.
Arriving at the church, he asked the priests to accept him into the monastic brotherhood, calling himself a wretched wanderer, though his very manner betrayed him as a cultivated man. The brethren led him to Abba John the Dwarf (November 9), famed for his holiness of life. He, wishing to test the newcomer’s humility, did not seat Arsenius with the monks for the trapeza meal. He threw him a piece of dry bread saying, “Eat if you wish.” Saint Arsenius got down on his hands and knees, and picked up the bread with his mouth. Then he crawled off into a corner and ate it. Seeing this, Elder John said, “He will be a great ascetic!” Then accepting Arsenius with love, he tonsured him into monasticism.
Saint Arsenius zealously passed through his obediences and soon he surpassed many of the desert Fathers in asceticism. The saint again heard the Voice while he was praying, “Arsenius, hide from people and dwell in silence, this is the root of virtue.” From that moment Saint Arsenius settled in a solitary cell deep in the desert.
Having taken on the struggle of silence he seldom left his seclusion. He came to church only on Sundays and Feast days, observing complete silence and conversing with no one. When Abba Moses asked him why he hid himself from people, Saint Arsenius replied, “God knows that I love you, but I cannot remain with God and with men at the same time. The Heavenly Powers all have one will and praise God together. On earth, however, there are many human wills, and each man has his own thoughts. I cannot leave God in order to live with people.”
Though absorbed in constant prayer, the saint did not refuse visiting monks with his counsel and guidance, giving short, but perceptive answers to their questions. Once, a monk from Sketis saw the great Elder through a window standing at prayer, surrounded by a flame.
The handicraft of Saint Arsenius was to weave baskets, for which he used the fronds of date palms soaked in water. For a whole year Saint Arsenius did not change the water in the container, but merely added a little water to it from time to time. This caused his cell to be permeated with a foul stench. When asked why he did this, the saint replied that it was fitting for him to humble himself in this way, because in the world he had used incense and fragrant oils. He prayed that after death he would not experience the stench of hell.
The fame of the great ascetic spread far, and many wanted to see him, and they disturbed his tranquility. As a result, the saint was forced to move around from place to place. But those thirsting to receive his guidance and blessing still found him.
Saint Arsenius taught that many take upon themselves great deeds of repentance, fasting, and vigil, but it is rare for someone to guard his soul from pride, greed, jealousy, hatred of one’s brother, remembrance of wrongs, and judgment. In this they resemble graves which are decorated outwardly, but filled with stinking bones.
A certain monk once asked Saint Arsenius what he should do when he read the Holy Scriptures and did not comprehend their meaning. The Elder answered, “My child, you must study and learn the Holy Scriptures constantly, even if you do not understand their power... For when we have the words of the Holy Scriptures on our lips, the demons hear them and are terrified. Then they flee from us, unable to bear the words of the Holy Spirit Who speaks through His apostles and prophets.”
The monks heard how the saint often urged himself on in his efforts with the words, “Rouse yourself, Arsenius, work! Do not remain idle! You have not come here to rest, but to labor.” He also said, “I have often regretted the words I have spoken, but I have never regretted my silence.”
The great ascetic and keeper of silence was given the gift of tears with which his eyes were constantly filled. He spent fifty-five years at monastic labors and struggles. He spent forty years at Sketis, and ten years on the mountain of Troe near Memphis. Then he spent three years at Canopus, and two more years at Troe, where he fell asleep in the Lord.
Our holy, God-bearing Father Arsenius reposed when he was nearly one hundred years old, in the year 449 or 450.
His only disciples seem to have been Alexander, Zoilos, and Daniel (June 7).

Troparion — Tone 8

By a flood of tears you made the desert fertile, / And your longing for God brought forth fruits in abundance. / By the radiance of miracles you illumined the whole universe. / O our holy Father Arsenius, pray to Christ our God to save our souls!

Kontakion — Tone 2

Arising from Rome, as a sun, you reached the royal city, / Enlightening it, O most blessed one, by your words and deeds. / You drove out the darkness of unreasoning. / Therefore we honor you, Arsenius, the glory of the Fathers!

How do you balance part-time work and heavy coursework?
Balancing part-time work and heavy coursework can feel like juggling flaming swords while riding a unicycle. It’s challenging, but with the right strategies, it's definitely manageable. Here are some tips to help you strike that perfect balance.

1. Prioritize and Plan

One of the most effective ways to manage both work and studies is by prioritizing your tasks. Use a planner or a digital calendar to schedule your classes, work shifts, study sessions, and downtime. Knowing what needs to be done and when can help you avoid last-minute stress.

2. Set Realistic Goals

Setting achievable goals for each day or week can keep you on track. Break your tasks into smaller, manageable chunks, and focus on completing them one at a time. This will make large projects seem less daunting and more attainable.

3. Communicate with Employers and Professors

Transparency is key. Let your employer know about your academic commitments and speak to your professors about your work schedule. Most employers and educators are willing to offer flexibility if they understand your situation.

4. Take Care of Your Health

Don’t forget to prioritize your health. Ensure you’re getting enough sleep, eating well, and incorporating some physical activity into your routine. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, which is crucial for managing stress and maintaining productivity.

5. Consider Using Writing Services

When your schedule becomes overwhelmingly hectic, using a professional writing service can be a lifesaver. Here are some options:
SpeedyPaper: Speedy Paper is a highly recommended service for students needing quick and reliable assistance with their papers. They offer a wide range of services, from editing to complete paper writing, and they’re known for their fast turnaround times and high-quality work. Parental mental resources

Of course, raising children is a job. Not in a way that we have job instructions and get a salary. On the other hand, if we let loose the metaphors and imagination, then perhaps it is similar. There is a reason to consider it a job because it requires resources. Parents need material resources – money, things, living space, food. And they also need mental resources. They need attention, they need patience, they need knowledge, time and empathy. We use these resources for children, but they are depleted by a lot of other activities in life.
The less income parents get, the more they are affected by the depletion of mental resources. The more parents are mentally depleted, the more often they rely on strict, coercive practices when feeding their children. Coercive food parenting was also related to perceived lower co-parenting support (those cases where we say “everything rests on my shoulders”).
So when you talk with parents and discuss what problems they face when feeding their children but do not discuss the problems they face as parents, any recommendations you would give “to try things” will have no chance of being implemented unless you also discuss how they can replenish their own resources first.

2024.05.21 12:26 aine0102 my parents are controlling

19,f never went out with friends. not that im not an outspoken or friendly person, got a pretty good friend circle extremely talented supportive and hardworking people. they go out all the time and dont have to constantly update their parents on slightest minute plan changes.
first time getting along with people and them instanly making plans of going out was weird but in a jealous weird and questioning. it was later i figured their parents do not ask every detail of their day, who they met, what they had, why were they 5 min late. they dont pick and drop them everywhere they have schedules. and it was after a week or hanging out that i realised, it was me living a diffent life than everyone out there. and it broke me cus that was the point i realised that in the name of protectiveness and security and ease in commutation, they just snatched my independence from me.
they provide for me and i cannot begin to thank them enough for it, pursuing a professional study and doing good at it, always supportive. but that day i sat down and got to a conclusion that if i were to upset my parents or do not do things how they want me to do, i'd lose everything. and that has happened. asked to go out with friends, note that all of my friends come from dignified background humble and kind and educated and themselves are pursuing professional studies. never asked them before so expected there wont be a problem. was in dilemma that i dont go out cuz i dont ask to go out. often picture myself as a bird in cage unaware that shes trapped unless she tries to get out. yea so access to outside without them denied. reasoned a bit on why not. they got mad and yelled and said pretty harsh things. i was in school then and it was for the teacher's birthday. we loved her dearly and she was moving out of country. i was sure they'd let me so made plans and everything cancelled last minute cried whole evening and night. that was when it started. when the bird realised she isnt in a room but a prison.
gave a couple more tries here and there. same answers. silent treatments. refused to enroll me in the course im currently pursuing initially, calling it a financial issue. and yea there were and are financial issues but hey, grasped what was going on and did everything their way. cut ties with everyone except two friends who theyve met plenty more times than others and did as they said. regular classes, not questioning them, spending time with them. enrolled and in classes after six months.
met a guy and he was good. wanted to take me on a date. i knew they wouldnt let me go. took it slow and introduced him as my friend. asked me to cut ties with him. i kinda liked him. we had good undertanding he's help me with studies and confide about his family and life in general and i thought i can date. i wanted to date him. see where it goes like every other teenager who go out on dates after classes and study and support each other. they didnt wanted me to see him or anyother guy even as a friend. deleted every guy friend of mine's contact. we still were seeing each other until i got so burnt out of the constant watch and professional studies and competitive exams also all while managing a degree. had to break ties with him for a couple while and i admittedly couldve done with proper explanation but it was a panic attack, yeah i did starting having them right after school when everything crashed down, so panic attack with all tears and snot and heavy breathing i leave him a text that i cant do this.
fast forward today. exams done. some professional practical work everyone has to take up and my father as usual would pick me up and drop me. yesterday a friend of mine suggested we buy new books and get some food after work was done which is 1:30. i thought now that im old enough, cus the last time i tried asking was 16, maybe i can go. they said yes when asked in morning. 1:45pm text comes in. where u at. when will you be back. gave a location where he'd pick me up after we're done with books things. im at metro station, shaking, holding that ticket beacuse it was all over that again. they let me go but did they? call comes in when i dont reply in 5 minutes. he asks when will i be back upto. on saying by 4, he went why books need so much time. denied that i ever mentioned lunch too. i remember saying lunch and books. couldnt argue, not used to, dont want to upset them. two of my friends waiting for the metro so we go grab lunch and spend some time for the first time in about a year since we met, and im shaking cus its so humiliating and like. this close to crying when he hung up without saying anything further and mum texts in 2 mintes asking me to come back home rn this instant. manage to apologise and run through the station, get a cab and run home in 20 min. 2:20pm. at home. i dont if im though. in my bathroom. crying shaking of embarrassment, humiliation, guilt, frustation, anger. and hunger.
also, crossed path with the guy i was seeing. he had his guitar, he used to play for me after completing studies. killed me to pass by with just a hey and by the looks of it, he was upset about it too. everything keeps falling apart everytime i accomplish one thing.
i dont know if this is how parenting is supposed to be done because none of ppl i know have such parents and controls. so its not normal but is it abusive? i question and then go to sleep cus the obvious answer would disrupt the peace im holding on to. the good side of them keeping me sane.
if you've taken much time to read it through. thank you. i dont have anyone to share this with and im so lonely at times like this

2024.05.21 12:19 Jahblessthecrop Teacher's assistant on IEC from Aus

Hi there,
I'm an Australian Bachelor of Education student and I'm about halfway through my four year degree. I study online and would continue this abroad. I'm very interested in taking advantage of your countries offer to allow me to work and live for up to 24 months. I currently work as a teacher's aide here in Melbourne and since I love working in education, I would like to continue that if I was to live in Canada. I know, all Aussies are in Banff on the ski lifts but I want to continue on my career path if possible.
So to get to my question, is it possible for those who aren't citizens and without a completed degree, to work in your elementary schools? Also, if I was able to work in Canada in a school, what's the process like and are there any jobs? I find it quite confusing looking through your job bank site. Only four jobs in Toronto area in this role pop up on that site which isn't very encouraging.
Thanks in advance

2024.05.21 12:13 shrihankp12 Recently finished 10th grade. Can I still be able to do something to maximize my chances of pursuing Neuroscience (or related) abroad? More specifically, should I?

TL;DR: I have way less opportunities for building up ECs than one'd expect, residing in a close-to-vilage town; financially or otherwise. Do I have a chance for studying Biology (most likely PG) abroad (such as the US or UK)?
my_qualifications: ICSE 10th grade, 98.8% Bo5
Starting with what I mean by "situation" in the title, it, as a matter of fact, doesn't symbolize some excruciatingly painful or physically deranging position or anything even close to that; it's something a lot more commonplace (at least from what I've seen in real life): I reside in a pretty small and isolated town and this alone ticks off a lot of boxes for a reduction in chances I'd ever get out of India. What I have gathered over the course of my obviously inadequate research on the Internet that it is pretty inevitable that those who get in have exceptional academics, even out of the stipulated curriculum. - One that I've seen often being mentioned is the AP classes administered by the College Board; a typical applicant takes anywhere between 5 and 20 (!) AP courses and somehow gets a 5 in all of them – the highest score, I presume – all the while acing the exams held in their respective curricula. I was interested, of course, although I was stumped by noticing the testing fee for one AP itself; courses themselves are a whole another thing. - The other option I stumbled upon was Olympiads. Some googling led me to the official websites administering the regional, state, and national level Olympiads in different sciences. They were cool and all, but – as far as I understand – you'd need an educational institution or anything similar to apply for such a thing, which is most likely not possible to do here. I might be incorrect though, and while this is a clear tangent to the original question, I would like to know if I can self-teach myself the kind of skills different Olympiads like IPhO, IMO or IBO (or anything similar that would look fine on my resume) demand, as well as if I can apply for them by my own.
My academics? Just a "class topper" tag multiple times and winning a few very localised competitions. Haha.
Even with exceptional academics, it's only a barebones requisite for actually having a chance. I was acquainted of the fact that people who get in have gone out of their way to do stuff that's very unique - and I believe stuff like this is a differentiator for selecting people. Especially at the top Unis. - The most popular EC were starting / leading clubs or similar. An applicant usually started one on their own due to a lack of such an organised body at their schools for interested people. This is out of my reach, too – where I studied till 10th grade in did have clubs, but they were taken down on account of pandemic and since then the Principal has been hesitant to restart them. No real activity was happening in these clubs, anyway. - The other niche thing I saw was publishing research papers or participating in essay competitions where you formally put forth a unique standpoint about something. I'm once again incapable to do so, as far as I could see: my understanding is that you're supposed to conduct experiments or at least partake in a STEM-based research body that does these experiments, and either unanimously or otherwise publish the findings and conclude certain things. I might be wrong, again, but this is what I've come to know – and I definitely have no opportunities where I live to even start doing anything; more specifically, a bigger problem is that I have no idea what to do at large for getting into stuff like this. - Raising money for a cause? Nope. Nada. Zero possibility. - Starting public awareness camps / hosting conferences related to my major / NGO? Also not possible.
Now I know there are many (a lot many, I presume) cases where someone didn't have stellar ECs on their profile but still got in, which would allow someone to hurl back at me with the following points, in my opinion:
The AOs do not see a huge brag-list of near-perfect grades and out-of-the-world ECs; they only see if what you've done over your high school period is helpful.
That's the most common point I see everywhere. While I do understand what it implies, I honestly don't think I ever had a chance to do so - my school, as it is now inherently deducible, is pretty dogsh*t at providing opportunities for stuff like that. On top of that, the place I live, and the contacts I have with people, have almost no knowledge of what it takes for someone to apply to abroad colleges. Therefore, the long and the short is, the number of notable activities I've undertaken during or before 9th grade is infinitesimally small.
You can try your best to have a very good CGPA in 11th and 12th and partake in international-level exams.
I certainly can ensure the first half of it; the second half? I don't even know where to start - I feel what I've gathered till now is just an innate cloud of tension and presumably erratic bits of information with no continuity.
You can move outside and study in an international board such as IB, A-levels, etc.; for the most part, these have a higher weightage in foreign colleges than ISC or CBSE.
Sadly not possible because those are waaaay outside my affordability.
I think that's a pretty feasible summary of the information I've congregated beginning from the past year up-till now. If there is any mistake or misconception that I might bear, please let me know! And going back to my initial question: Do I still have a chance to open up a whole new pathway to pursue studying abroad? Should I stick with being in India?
