2024.05.21 13:37 ExpensiveOrange443 How to Get Business to Show Up in Google Search FAST!

When I first started my journey into digital marketing, one of the biggest challenges I faced was figuring out how to get my business to show up in Google search results. The online landscape felt like an enormous, tangled jungle where my website seemed to be lost among the undergrowth. However, with determination and a few strategic moves, I managed to clear a path and make my business visible on Google.
Getting your business to show up in Google search isn't just about luck—it's about strategy, consistency, and understanding how Google works. The first crucial step is to claim and optimize your Google My Business (GMB) listing. This might seem basic, but it’s the cornerstone of local SEO. Think of GMB as your digital storefront; it’s the first impression many potential customers will have of your business. Ensure your business name, address, and phone number are accurate and up to date. Add high-quality photos, respond to reviews, and regularly update your business information.
I remember when I first updated my GMB listing. It was like flipping a switch—suddenly, my business started to show up more frequently in local searches. This small but significant step can make a huge difference, answering the question of how do you get your business to show up on Google search.
Next, let’s talk about your website. Your site needs to be optimized not only for search engines but also for the user experience. When people ask how to get my business to appear on Google, I tell them to start with their website’s content. Use relevant keywords naturally within your content. Don’t just stuff them in; they need to flow organically. For example, if you run a coffee shop, your blog posts might include phrases like “best coffee in [your city]” or “how to brew the perfect cup of coffee.” These keywords help Google understand what your site is about.
I once worked with a small bakery that struggled to get their website to show up on Google. We revamped their content, focusing on long-tail keywords and providing valuable, engaging information about baking techniques, recipes, and local sourcing. Slowly but surely, they began to climb the search rankings. Their persistence paid off, demonstrating that getting your business to appear on Google search business is not an overnight task but a gradual climb.
Another key aspect is backlinks. When other reputable websites link to your content, it signals to Google that your site is trustworthy and relevant. Think of it like this: if your website is a ship, backlinks are the wind in your sails. They push you forward in the vast ocean of the internet. Reach out to industry blogs, local news sites, or other businesses for guest posting opportunities or collaborations. These backlinks will boost your SEO significantly.
In the early days of my career, I focused on building relationships with local influencers and bloggers. Their mentions and links back to my site provided a significant boost, helping to answer that burning question of how do I get my business to show up in a Google search.
Furthermore, technical SEO cannot be ignored. Ensure your website is mobile-friendly, as Google now uses mobile-first indexing. This means that the mobile version of your site is considered the primary version. Speed is also crucial; a slow website can hurt your rankings. Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to test and improve your site’s load time.
I recall a time when a slow-loading website almost cost me a major client. After optimizing the images and cleaning up the code, the site’s speed improved drastically. It was a clear lesson in the importance of technical SEO for getting your website to show up on Google.
Lastly, always keep your audience engaged. Regularly update your website with fresh content. This could be blog posts, news about your business, or customer testimonials. Fresh content not only keeps your audience engaged but also tells Google that your site is active and relevant.
In summary, getting your business to show up in Google search involves a mix of claiming your Google My Business listing, optimizing your website content, building backlinks, focusing on technical SEO, and consistently updating your site. By taking these steps, you can ensure that when people search for your services, your business appears prominently in the results. This journey requires effort and patience, but the rewards—more visibility, more traffic, and ultimately, more customers—are well worth it.
So, if you’re wondering how to get your business to show up on Google, start with these foundational steps and watch your visibility grow.

2024.05.21 13:25 johnnybird95 hey, their influence on you will get quieter one day. i promise

yeah, christian elementary/middle school ruined my fucking life. i thought i'd be stuck with the damage forever because such a constant stream of systemic abuse during your most crucial developmental years (ie. my entire childhood until i was 14) has a way of seeping into every crack of your life and personhood and c-ptsd isnt a valid diagnosis in most places yet.
but suddenly at 28 i don't feel suffocated by christian school's influence at every hour of every day like i used to.
ghost (the band) was a big help. their music calls out a lot of the systemic issues within the institution of christianity, and presents a sort of story/thought experiment of "how would history have been different if there was always an equal satanic "church" to oppose christianity". it gave me the resources to take the child version of myself that screams and wails and bangs his fists against the inside of my head about the abuse and the loneliness and the fucked up methods of indoctrination and just. all of it. and it gave me the materials to sort of construct a kinder, alternate childhood for him to exist in where he isn't constantly being hurt by those people anymore. someone important (a famous singer!) knows what he went through, and doesnt want that for him, and that seems to be enough for him to finally feel safe and relax in his little corner of my thoughts.
maybe music isnt your cup of tea, but theres something out there that will help you more that you can possibly imagine and i know you'll find it someday. you gotta keep looking for something better even when it seems hopeless and like you'll never heal. ok? good luck out there. youve got this

2024.05.21 13:23 SuperStingray The namesake of Isolde Itou

“The past and the future, considered apart from the consequences of their content, are empty as a dream, and the present is only the indivisible and unenduring boundary between them.” ― Arthur Schopenhauer, The World As Will And Idea
In Chapter 3, it's revealed by the medical records disk that Isa's name is shorthand for "Isolde." I wasn't familiar with this name, but I felt it was distinctive enough that there had to be some meaning behind it, so I did some digging.
One use of the name "Isolde" that caught my attention was that it is the name of a facility at CERN- the ISOLDE or Isotope Separator On Line DEvice, used to produce and separate radioactive isotopes of elements for research purposes. Given the game's frequent use of motifs relating to nuclear science and the health risks of radiation, it felt too specific to be incidental. Still, there wasn't much meaning I could derive from it, but I thought it was interesting enough to be worth pointing out.
The most prominent instance of that name is from the story of Tristan and Isolde, a celtic legend and a romantic tragedy often described as a precursor to Romeo and Juliet. There are many versions of the story told across different times and cultures, but given the game's many references to Romantic Era art from the German speaking world such as Schubert's Serenade and Böcklin's Isle of the Dead, I'm inclined to think it's specifically referencing Richard Wagner's opera "Tristan and Isolde". I'll give a quick synopsis here and analyze the parallels that I think may reflect Isa's role in the story. (To avoid confusion, from now on I will only use 'Isolde' to refer to the character from Tristan and Isolde while 'Isa' will refer to the one from Signalis, unless otherwise stated.)
It begins with Isolde on a ship, being escorted by the knight Tristan, from Ireland to Cornwall to marry Tristan's uncle, King Mark of Cornwall. It is an arranged marriage she is not keen on going through. In a fit of rage, she curses the ship, hoping it sinks and takes all of them with it, particularly Tristan. After learning that Tristan killed her original fiancé, she issues him an ultimatum that she will not willingly leave with him until he drinks with her as an atonement. In truth, she is planning to poison the both of them, and he suspects as much, but in an attempt to prevent this, her attendant replaced the poison with a love potion.
Though she ends up marrying King Mark between the first and second act, Tristan and Isolde can't ignore their passionate love. They realize the only time they can safely pursue their relationship is at night, when the King and the court aren't watching. As their patience for the night grows thinner, they realize the only way to realize their love is through the eternal night: Death. But at the same time, they are caught together by the King and his attendant. Without even attempting to explain his betrayal, he asks Isolde to follow him into death and impales himself on a sword.
In the third act, Tristan partially recovers from the suicide attempt but remains delirious. At the sound of a shepard's pipe in the distance, he reflects on the death of his parents, believing the pipe to be death now calling to him. He laments drinking the potion and how it led him to live a life of madness desiring something that can never be. He dies in Isolde's arms and she follows him into death. As the King arrives to the scene, Tristan's servant kills the King's attendant in revenge and then himself. Amidst all the death, the king reveals he had learned about the love potion and had simply come to offer his blessing to Tristan and Isolde, and the story ends with them finally realizing their love in the afterlife.
In writing this adaptation of the classic story, Wagner was reportedly inspired by the work of Arthur Schopenhauer, particularly his work "Die Welt ais Wille und Vorstellung" or "The World as Will and Representation." In "The Tristan Chord: Wagner and Philosophy", author Bryan Magee identifies Wagner's use of day and night as respective metaphors for "phenomenon", the aspects of the world we can perceive and "noumenon", the fundamentally unknowable reality beneath it. Both concepts were first named by Immanuel Kant, but Schopenhauer further argued that the gap between them is the cause of misery and suffering for all sentient beings; our individual pursuits and efforts to move towards a more personally favorable 'phenomenon' cannot be reconciled with a fundamentally uncertain state of the world and its other inhabitants. That to fulfill one desire requires the quashing of ten others. Illustrating this, he writes:
"...he saw an immense field entirely covered with skeletons, and took it to be a battle-field. However, they were nothing but skeletons of large turtles five feet long, three feet broad, and of equal height. These turtles come this way from the sea in order to lay their eggs, and are then seized by wild dogs... with their united strength, these dogs lay them on their backs, tear open their lower armour, the small scales of the belly, and devour them alive. But then a tiger often pounces on the dogs. Now all this misery is repeated thousands and thousands of times, year in year out. For this, then, are these turtles born. For what offence must they suffer this agony? What is the point of this whole scene of horror? The only answer is that the will-to-live thus objectifies itself."
Returning to Signalis, this quote immediately calls to mind the first-person Shores of Oblivion scene, in which skulls are buried and littered across the sand, and a quote from one of the nearby scattered papers:
we should have never left
the primordial soup
only through death can i escape
the call of the one who rules
above all life
Tristan and Isolde, realizing that their personal passions were irreconcilable with the interests of the material world they were in, concluded the only answer was to leave it behind altogether, so they made a death pact. A "promise", if you will. So upon finding Tristan dead, Isolde takes her own life. Much like how our Isa, who upon losing hope of being able to find Erika in the living world, disintegrates.
Another related theme connecting these stories is the lamentation of fate. Just as Isolde prays for the ship carrying her to her destiny to sink with her on it, and as Tristan regrets drinking the potion that led him to a life of desire for something that could never be, two early game quotes from Isa show that she is seeking Erika not just with love and concern but with regret for how they left things:
"Erika, if you find this note, despite everything that's happened. I've come to look for you."
"Have you ever wondered if you're speaking to someone for the last time without knowing? I wish I could go back, so I could say something else."
The details of this regret are deliberately ambiguous. It sounds like they had a fight or falling out, but 'everything that's happened' implies a deeper conflict- a disagreement or choice that they couldn't reconcile. Something important enough that it took Isa away from her sister, yet also something she regrets so greatly that she would take it all back just so she can see her sister one more time.
As Schopenhauer said, "A man can do what he wants, but not want what he wants." The great tragedy at the center of Tristan and Isolde is that even if we have control of our actions, we are at the mercy of the desires we were given by fate. It's a theme that permeates not just Isa's story, but Signalis as a whole.
Elster never chose to love Ariane. Had she not, she might have found the strength to end her suffering before it was too late. So she ran away from the "day" of Ariane's suffering into the "night" of keeping her in cryosleep.
Ariane never chose to love art. Had she not, she could have had a simple and comfortable life fitting in with her peers. So she ran away from the "day" of the Eusan Nation's surveillance and social ridicule into the "night" of Penrose-512.
Falke lost any hope of finding happiness after becoming burdened with emotions and identity that she could do nothing to satiate, and quite literally went from the "day" of life into the "night" of dreaming.
And then there's Adler, all but crushed by helplessness as he tries in vain to hold back the death of reality, as Elster and Isa continue to bring about its apparent decay in pursuit of their own wills. The relationship between Adler and Isa is interesting and I think quite important, as he's the only character besides Elster who gets direct screen time with her. As the game bluntly mentions the first time Adler meets Isa,
NONE OF US ARE HERE BY CHOICE (And No One Will Miss Us)
It's from this and the Schopenhauerian interpretation of Tristan and Isolde that I think Adler represents phenomenon while Isa represents noumenon.
Adler wishes to preserve the light of day. To awaken from the dream and return to shared experience of a common, coherent reality. One where what you see is what you get. Where experiences can be trusted, and results are predictable.
Isa wishes to live in the night. The world of passion and of choice. Valuing the experience of familial love over all else, even the world or truth, she continues to live only in pursuit of another reality amidst the abyss of uncertainties, one where she made amends with her sister before it was too late, or never fell out with her at all. And when she finally accepts that she cannot find it or manifest it, much like her namesake, she concludes the "eternal night" is her last recourse.
There can be no perfect reconciliation between these two wills. It can never be day and night at the same time. And yet they do find themselves together- falling into the bottom of the mine. In the Nowhere, at the end of all things. At the sunset, the liminal space in between the night and day, between dreaming and waking. Because, one means nothing without the other.
To me that is the important take away from her story. That if we don't want to live in regret over the hand life dealt us- hating ourselves for being unable to fulfill the desires we were stuck with, before its too late, we must confront the question of which world we want to live in.
Is it truly better to have loved and lost then never loved at all? Is it truly better to have tried and failed than to never try? I don't want to believe the answer is no, but none of us can be certain for ourselves until we reason with ourselves honestly about why we struggle with the question in the first place- what the true value of each side of the coin is. Perhaps then we can accept what is beyond our control.
To quote Schopenhauer once more:
Every individual, every human apparition and its course of life, is only one more short dream of the endless spirit of nature, of the persistent will-to-live, is only one more fleeting form, playfully sketched by it on its infinite page, space and time; it is allowed to exist for a short while that is infinitesimal compared with these, and is then effaced, to make new room. Yet, and here is to be found the serious side of life, each of these fleeting forms, these empty fancies, must be paid for by the whole will-to-live in all its intensity with many deep sorrows, and finally with a bitter death, long feared and finally made manifest. It is for this reason that the sight of a corpse suddenly makes us serious.

2024.05.21 13:20 Nova__Terra I think my boyfriend is purposely triggering me

Lately, we had been fighting over his female friend of 5 years. I don’t usually have jealousy issues and I always support friendships no matter what gender as long as they are respectful towards me and my relationship.
I’ve been dating Ray for 6 months and every-time we have a fight he just leaves me for a day or two. Doesn’t break up just doesn’t text/call/see me.
I explained that I am very logical and fair and I don’t require much but when I get triggered my resentment comes out and I am manic, angry, needy, just overall too much and I wouldn’t make points or talk logically like I usually do.
We never had a single fight where he didn’t up and leave - that triggers my fear of abandonment and I spiral and text him to break up or block him or tell him i never want to see him again. This is not behaviour I want for myself. I know why I do these things and it hurts so much I can’t control them on my own in those moments. It is very toxic of me.
We had a conversation where I told him that I well tell him when I feel like I am splitting and that everything needs to drop and that he needs to console me and assure me he is there for me no matter the fight. He agreed and we practiced fake scenarios and it was so consoling for me I cried as I never heard him be like that with me - gentle and supportive during fights.
The issues we are having are regarding his female friend. To make the story short she thinks it is appropriate to share a bed with a guy best friend that has feelings for her but she doesn’t have feelings for him. She did the same with my partner, Ray. She leans on him while they watch TV. She is quite petite and feminine and wears crop tops and skin tight close when hanging out with my partner and the other best friend who has feelings for her. This wouldn’t be an issue for me but she doesn’t wear that kind of clothing at all with her close female friends, just with them. When I hanged out with the three of them they all ignored me and did an activity that excluded me. My partner sat next to her and left me all alone as the guy friend also sat with them. They had three donuts I bought (she came unannounced so I bought only 3 for the 3 of us). Ray gave her a donut first and he and guy friend took the other two. They just ignored me the whole time so I excused myself and left as I started to cry.
When we parted ways she told me how she forgot how big I was. I’ve gained some stress weight and I told Ray he needs to address the comment as it was very weird to say that.
He approached her gently and said Hey K my partner is insecure that comment was weird. She said how she never said that and that I am twisting her words, how she will avoid hanging out with me if I am that sensitive. He calls her little one and consoles her how no one is mad he just wanted to highlight it.
Ray and I talked and I said I am starting to compare myself to here too much as she is getting empathy and gentleness that I am not getting from him and due to us looking differently it is going to my head.
I told him I needed to feel like I am more important to him than her, for a short period of time so I can adjust to their friendship. That he needs to put my needs/feelings first instead of hers and it hurts me very deeply and I cry so much due to these events lately.
The day after he asked me about getting her a specific anime bag, he remembered all the little details about the bag we saw as he knew she would like it (i told him to get it for her before I met her and was ignored). He wanted to get her a bag to show her there is no hard feelings (he wanted to make sure she is okay after he had to ask her to be more mindful about such comments towards me and she got defensive). When I asked him where is my bag, my feelings are hurt quite a bit more he said he would buy me that book I wanted. He couldnt remember the book name or colour but remembered everything about the bag.
Anyways we got into a big fight and I told him, I need to feel like his number 1 priority for sometime so I am ok with that friendship. He said he understood why and how I felt. But returned back to telling me I am making an issue where there is no issue and my reality is not true. I just told him I am uncomfortable with the friendship (more his attitude towards her) and I need him to take a break from it for my own sanity. He said he doesn’t like that.
My BPD got triggered and Idk why I said that as I knew his choice, I acted like a child and asked him to make a choice. Nothing will happen I just need him to make a choice K or me. And I reminded him I just need to feel safe in this relationship and I will be okay with their friendship.
He choose K.
I begged him that I just needed to hear him say my name just so I can control the splitting.
He refused and said don’t make me say it as I will hate myself.
I begged and begged and I was pathetic as I was losing all grip I had on my controlled emotions.
He said the I choose you and left me again.
I am so heartbroken and I did it to myself and I’m so tired of being like this and having these extreme emotions. When I am calm I validate everyones side and be supportive and forgiving and apologetic.
I called him and asked him to pick up as I was not feeling safe on my own ( I never asked him or told him something like this) it was 4 am and my friends and brother are not responding and my mental health was. Very dark.
I’m all alone now and I don’t know how to fix this.

2024.05.21 13:16 HRJafael Coast Guard partnering with local organizations for watercraft inspections for Safe Boating Week

https://archive.is/6pWeU
As people load up their kayaks, canoes and boats ahead of Memorial Day weekend, local recreation company Adventure East and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary are advising folks to keep safety in mind during National Safe Boating Week.
In 2022, the U.S. Coast Guard reported 4,040 accidents and 636 deaths resulting from recreational boating activities. Boaters of all types — especially paddlers in kayaks and canoes, as well as those on paddle boards — are urged to get their equipment inspected, properly prepare for boating and follow safety tips to ensure everyone has a fun and, most importantly, safe experience. National Safe Boating Week is observed the week before Memorial Day each year, as the holiday typically marks the arrival of warmer weather, which ushers in the recreational boating season. This year it is being observed from May 18 through May 24.
“Kayakers, paddlecraft as we call them, don’t think they’re boaters,” said William Bell, a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 43 years. “Things happen quick in small boats, that’s why in a kayak it’s more important [to be prepared]. … Good swimmers think they can put a life jacket on in the water, it’s difficult.”
To mark the occasion in the Pioneer Valley, where paddlecraft make up the vast majority of boaters in the region’s rivers, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is partnering with Sunderland-based outdoor recreation company Adventure East to inspect the business’ fleet of boats and then with the Sunderland Public Library to offer inspections of the public’s vessels.
On Friday, May 24, from 3 to 6 p.m., folks are invited to bring their kayaks, canoes and other boats to the parking lot behind the Sunderland Public Library at 20 School St., where Coast Guard Auxiliary members like Bell and Tom Fydenkevez, who also previously served decades on the Selectboard, will inspect the vessels free of charge. Adventure East will also be on hand to share details about their boating safety procedures, additional paddlecraft safety tips and great locations for people to bring their boats.
If your boat is in compliance, you will receive a vessel safety check decal for your boat to indicate you are in full compliance with federal and state boating laws. If deficiencies are found, a written report will be put together.
Safety tips
While it may be obvious, a key point for all boaters and passengers is the importance of wearing a life jacket or other form of personal flotation device, as Fydenkevez noted 75% of all fatal boat accidents involve drowning. In 85% of those drownings, the person who died was not wearing a life jacket. Three in four drownings also involved vessels less than 21 feet in length, according to the Coast Guard. He added that life jackets should fit properly and high-visibility ones are more effective.
“You know, the black and the blue [life jackets] look really good, but if you’re out there, it’s nice to have a red one or brightly colored one. … Coloration is really important,” Fydenkevez said.
As for additional items and equipment, all boaters should have a personal ID on them and it is recommended to have some sort of identification on the vessel. This identification should have a phone number on it, so if a boater is safe, but separated from their boat, first responders aren’t sent on an unnecessary search.
Paddlecraft boaters are advised to have an additional paddle or oar, a flashlight, a first aid kit, a registered beacon that can be attached to a boat to track their location, and food and water. Boaters are advised to leave alcohol on the shore, as its use is listed as the “leading-known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents,” according to the Coast Guard.
“People think they’re on the water, ‘What could happen to me?’” Fydenkevez said of many people’s mindsets when getting in or on a boat. Beyond equipment, and much like going for a hike, the public is advised to have a “float plan,” where you inform a family member, friend or other responsible party of your plans, which includes where you’re going and the expected time you’ll return. That way, authorities can be notified if you do not come back.
Other tips include dressing for the water, not the weather, because even if the weather is going to be above 90 degrees, water temperatures can still be dangerously low. This time of year in particular, the water temperatures are still in the low 60s, “so you don’t have an unlimited amount of time,” Fydenkevez said. The National Weather Service notes “cold shock can be just as severe and dangerous” from 60-degree water as it is with 32-degree water.
As members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Adventure East prepare to inspect boats on Friday, Adventure East founder Brian Pearson said his business has gotten their life jackets inspected and they get all 45 kayaks, 15 canoes and two giant canoes inspected by the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
“A lot of people kind of start their pathway into paddling with Adventure East, so we have a lot of people who may have fear or anxiety about starting a new thing that has more risk. … The Coast Guard says we know what we’re doing, which is a huge thing,” Pearson said. “It’s great to have that partnership and their interest in helping and supporting us.”

2024.05.21 13:14 GoochMasterFlash Poll: Do you think St. Louis (City + County or all Greater STL) would be better off as an independent state?

(Note: please answer regardless of whether or not you think it is politically feasible to accomplish)
If you have been following the news lately you surely know the state is interested in massively slashing the city budget, exercising control over its police force, etc.
It makes one wonder: if the state hates the city so much is it maybe time we inquire about leaving it?
The majority of Missouri’s revenue comes from personal income tax, followed by sales tax making up almost 1/4th. I dont know exactly to be fair, but I would assume that the 1.3M people who live in St Louis and St Louis County provide over 1/6th of the income taxes (including a lot of high earners its probably more than 1/6th, but no less than 1/6th considering the population). Beyond that, we have a metro region of millions surrounding the city and county who we collect sales taxes from when they come to the area. If the Missouri side of the metro region as a whole were looked at as one entity the numbers would be even more lopsided.
Missouri leans towards being a dependent state, generally taking slightly more from the federal government than we pay into it, federal funds account for half of its budget. The state is literally propped up by STL, KC, and the federal government. Everything else in the state combined can barely scratch what is provided by the other three sources if the vast majority of revenue comes from personal income tax and sales tax. Yet STL and KC are constantly derided by the state and out-voiced by conservative welfare queens in the boonies.
Of course in order to leave the state the state government would have to approve it, which they would never do. Plus the federal government would have to approve the new state. So we are basically stuck in a relationship with an abuser despite providing so much. What could be more American than taxation without representation, right? Is it time for a throwback tea party or what?
Its ironic that the constitution says areas cant leave a state, be added to another, etc, yet our independent city that existed before the state of Missouri, before the territory of Missouri, before the territory of Louisiana, and even before the United States itself does not get the same respect. In 1821 when Missouri became a state the St. Louis area was literally half of its newly minted population figures.
This has become quite a rant, but I dont see why we continue to participate in state politics which give us nothing and debase quality of life in our region. I dont see why the state continues to want its major cities to be a portion outside of the fact that we bankroll much of their existence and we get to be their punching bags in performative politics that help no one. We should cut out the middle man and just work directly with the feds.
Surely people might say “the region is too small to be a state”, but look at Wyoming. Fully functioning as a giant state with only 1/3rd of the population in St Louis. Look at Delaware, operating with 1/3rd the land area and roughly the same population of St Louis county. The metro area GDP is over $200 billion dollars. Higher than the GDPs of Vermont, Wyoming, Alaska, and Montana combined; over 2x that of Delaware, and roughly equivalent to the entire state of Kansas. We would be just fine without the state of Missouri in every way shape and form, and if we left we would take over half of the states GDP with us.
People might say our current local politics are evidence that we could not successfully operate as a state, but our current local politics are largely a direct result of being a part of the dysfunctional state that is Missouri. We waste not only our money sending it to the middle man, but we also waste good politicians who could otherwise remain local instead of wasting their time in a political entity that does nothing for us. Why should they be in Jeff City talking to a wall when they could be here making real change. Why should our money go towards fixing roads in the middle of nowhere when we have major infrastructure issues in our own backyard?
TLDR; Is our relationship with Missouri a 200 year experiment gone wrong?
Express your opinion below; add a comment even if you think its a highly moronic idea! What do you think we would lose if we left MO?

2024.05.21 13:06 PatsyStonesBun Signs that your new Pre-Workout is working vs. not?

TL;DR - Here's what I'm asking

I'm brand new to pre-workouts and quite new to strength/resistance training. I'm curious to hear from those of you with much more experience, how you personally define a successful pre-workout ("this one is really working well for me") And, conversely, what signs do you look for to indicate that you need something stronger for your pre-workout? ("This one really isn't working out for me because I XXXX") Also, how long should you give yourself to get 'settled in' to the experience of taking a particular pre-workout before considering an alternative?

My background / workout regimen

I started weightlifting / resistance training three months ago. Working with a great trainer 4 days/wk. My trainer breaks down each day's strength/resistance training sessions into three groups of exercises. Each of the three groups has 3 separate exercises. Each exercise has 4 sets of between 10-15 reps. With 4 sessions a week, we hit legs, glutes, back, shoulders, triceps, biceps, chest and core. Each session ends with 10-15 minute high intensity conditioning session (quickly rotating between stations.)
I also do at least an hour of steady-state cardio, on my own time, 6-7 days a week and a yoga/mobility class once a week.
I'm also spending some time with a nutritionist to figure out my macros. I've estimated them, but I have free access to a registered dietitian, so I might as well make use of it!
I'm male. Early 40s. With the usual goal -- lose fat, gain muscle. I'm also a LADA diabetic, so healthy A1C / blood glucose is of course important.

My first ever pre-workout -- Bulk Black

This is my first week on pre-workout and I'm trying to take stock of how it's affecting energy and performance on my strength/resistance days. After doing a lot of reading on here and elsewhere (including super informative posts like this one from u/naderq), I decided to go with Transparent Labs' Bulk Black (with my own addition of agmatine, per nader's recommendation)

My post-workout

In case it's of interest, the post-workout I've decided to go with is MuscleTech NitroTech Whey Protein + added Glutamine powder

The reason I'm asking about evaluating your pre-workout

My first two days taking Bulk Black have been interesting. I consider my workouts very challenging. I really have to push to get those last sets completed. And, by the end of the 10-15 mins of the HIIT circuit training at the end, I am sweaty and out of breath. I've only had two sessions with Bulk Black so far, but both times, I didn't really notice anything different during my workouts. What I did notice was that my energy was much stronger post-workout. I wasn't limping to my car, but walking quickly. And I didn't feel like I needed to take a nap after. Which is great. Just not sure if I'm experiencing an impact during my workouts... yet. Note: while this may change as the months progress, right now, none of the weight / resistance exercise I'm doing are to exhaustion, they are a specific number of sets and reps which are all to be completed.

2024.05.21 13:04 ozone_ghost Movies that can help Kids learn Programming Abilities

Movies that can help Kids learn Programming Abilities
I want to start posting movies that could inspire kids to get into programming.
To start, here are three movies that can introduce kids to some programming concepts and mindsets:

1. War Games (1983)

What it teaches: Importance of perseverance, problem-solving, thinking outside the box, and the value of trying different approaches even if they seem unlikely.
Story: The movie follows a young hacker, David Lightman (played by Matthew Broderick), who unknowingly accesses a U.S. military supercomputer programmed to simulate and control nuclear war scenarios.
Persistance and Outside the box thinking: David's determination shines when he uses social engineering and a brute-force attack to guess the password to a restricted system. He meticulously tries various combinations until he cracks it, demonstrating the value of persistence and thinking outside the box.
https://preview.redd.it/po0hlxxcdr1d1.jpg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd85971a597fcc12c67850232cc57d56296cbc45
Hacker Mindset: Another pivotal moment is when David is captured and held in a military base. Using his wits and knowledge of technology, he manages to escape a locked room by short-circuiting an electronic door lock. This scene showcases his ingenuity and ability to think outside the box, traits that are crucial for any programmer and problem solver.
During the movie, David, tries different approaches even if they seem unlikely or naive, a great skill that we tend to lose in formal education.

2. Tron (1982)

What it teaches: Visualizes abstract programming concepts like programs, firewalls, and bits as tangible, interactive elements.
Story: The movie's protagonist, Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges), is a computer programmer who gets digitized and enters the virtual realm. "Tron" transports viewers into a digital world where programs are personified and interact within a computer system.
3D Representation of Programming Elements: Tron visualizes abstract programming concepts like programs, firewalls, and bits as tangible, interactive elements. This visualization can help kids understand these concepts better. Two examples: The character Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) represents a security program, and Bit is a small, binary entity that can only say "yes" or "no."
Bit: yes. no. yes. no. yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
With my 4-year-old son, we took inspiration from "Tron" to create these elements using LEGO toys, turning abstract programming concepts into physical objects. For instance, we represented a variable as a cuboid that could hold values. I have evolved this idea into a board game to teach the fundamentals of programming and it really helps him to see, touch and manipulate concepts.
Tron Recognizer using Lego bricks.

3. Tron: Legacy (2010)

(Might be more suitable for older children).
What it teaches: Artificial life, evolutionary algorithms, evolution strategies, evolutionary programming, and genetic algorithms, Game of Life, origin of life, morphogenesis.
Story: "Tron: Legacy" continues the story, this time focusing on Kevin Flynn's son, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), who enters the digital world to find his missing father.
Evolutionary Algorithms: The movie introduces ISOs (Isomorphic Algorithms), a spontaneously generated form of digital life within the Grid. This concept can help children discover artifitial life, artifitial intelligence, evolutionary algorithms etc.
Artificial Life: The spontaneous generation of life within electronic components/chips, as portrayed by the ISOs, brings the question of what is life and the possibility of life existing inside a digital / electronic world.
BTW: Could you tell a quote by Joshua (WOPR) in WarGames and Kevin Flynn in Tron Legacy that are almost identical?
https://preview.redd.it/6zsy3hi3er1d1.png?width=421&format=png&auto=webp&s=453f66d4c1b091dd8d3769192562b748757bb22c
I hope you enjoyed it!
Do you have other movies you would like to share that could help kids learn programming or develop a programming mindset?

2024.05.21 12:31 prisoncitybear Sunrise/Sunset

Living in the middle of #puremichigan affords us the opportunity to journey to several of the Great Lakes, some on the west side, some on the east side of the state. The hubby's family lives on the west side of the state, so we're often making the two hour trek there to visit and to get our feet wet. I used to joke that I preferred the west coast for the amazing sunsets over Lake Michigan. Of course, this was often fueled by a day spent drinking in the sun on the beach, and then continuing the drinking as the sun went down. We were with our buddies who have a cabin in Canada on Lake Huron and I said (most likely drunk) that “no one gets up to drink and watch the sun come up” and pointed to the sunset happening at Oval Beach in Saugatuck, MI (Google it, it's amazing!).
My how times have changed. I do actually get up to watch the sun come up now, and instead of drinking wine/beer, I’m drinking coffee or tea and enjoying the quiet time to think/meditate or just relax before the day starts. We recently added a sunroom/three seasons room off the back of our house, and it faces east and affords a great view of the sun coming up each morning. I may not be on a beach, but I can sit by my pool and pretend.
Being off booze is a game-changer for sure, on many levels. Our perception of what is important and what is valuable changes over time and we begin to see the world with clearer, sober eyes. That’s a gift that never gets old.

2024.05.21 12:19 Traditional-Extent30 Preliminary thoughts on Rifleman

Hi, recently switched to a rifleman and I want to share my thoughts as well as hear your opinion on the subject if you have some experience with this build/weaponry.
For reference this is my build:
https://nukesdragons.com/fallout-76/character?v=1&s=6a64aaa&d=sg2sb2p02pd1pk1po2pp2pl1ce0cu2la2l71l10lk2lu2lv2s72ao0a12a04a32ib4s12im1in1ir2eh2eu0e00ek0&lp=x13x43x73x83x93xm3
Unyielding, mainly energy weapon based.
I'm living on popcorn, purified water (used to overeaters pa), company tea and eventually canned coffee.
I do not pretend to be able to deal the same damage as a true meta build. And i accept the limit of unyielding (radiation zones/damage, some particular daily ops combo).
Still I aim to a certain degree of efficiency to deal with my way of playing.. soloing expeditions, being able to carry an event if necessary and classic endgame stuff.
I'm not interested in free aim, vats based.
My equipment is mainly based by 4+1 weapons:
I would prefer something like Anti Armor to be not linked to enemy life but it's fine. Enclave plasmas puck a punch in any way you build them.. strong, smooth fast reload, with severe beta capacitor the ammo capacity goes from 9 to 15. Only true issue is stealth (as all the energy weapons) and the high ap cost. But as rifleman, is sustainable.
-Bloody/50 hit chance/25 Laser rifle: I use the snappy receiver (or whatever it is) for keeping a nice rate of fire. I tried the aligned sniper barrel but.. that stuff seemed a bit crap to me, not just the reduced ammo capacity (from 30 to 9) but the fact that it doesn't seem to really compensate that with an increase on damage, on paper looks fine but using it.. no no. Probably bounded to the "charging". Switched to the other aligned long rifleman barrel
But on a rifleman.. wow.. this weapon seems to be made for this, powerful, with a rate of fire higher than my finger can press (63 with calibrated capacitor where 63 should be the number of ammo shoot in 10 seconds). 30 ammo capacity and a decent enough reload
It's not stealth but surely my favourite weapon with this build. With the rifleman barrel it also looks really cool and well fitted.
I hate it aesthetically.. is higher than my character..
But it also is the weapon that most makes me wonder how it works (or to best use it). My idea, using a quad, was to not lose time charging shot, just spamming. But i don't know (if someone of you have some experience I would appreciate your thoughts) how much damage do i lose not charging shot, if it would be better to completely charge at least the crit shot.
It's also a bit buggy, going 404 and not getting you sprint, stim and reload till you either bash/fire a complete charged round or switch weapon.
It seems to be mostly a problem in first person and this bugs me since Escape Artist is smoother in fp.
Finally, the most important part.. advice me on some outfit to use.. being "free" or atom shop, whatever, if you have a good combination. Right now I'm using Bos Spec ops suit with gray knit cap and gas mask with goggles. And i genuinely like it, but maybe you know some better combinations that might fit this build.
Thanks for reading (eventually lol)

2024.05.21 12:13 lorcan-mt Dustin Luca Leaving Salem News

Posted on his Facebook page that he is moving to a Communications job at SSU. Thanks for everything Dustin!
On Sept. 11, 2001, a series of terrorist attacks set me on a path to do three things: to correct misinformation as a life goal, to enter a field that in some way improves people’s understanding of their world, and to earn bipartisan respect in how I do it.
I’ve written an untold number of stories across 23 years and been taken to places new and old, familiar and fresh. I've interviewed rock legends, presidential candidates (well... one), and along the way met unforgettable sources ranging from a baby battling neuroblastoma to an elderly Lawrence woman growing a potato in her apartment and naming it like a son.
Of course, this path has had its drawbacks. I was told early on that “being a reporter doesn’t pay well,” and that I was entering a “dead industry” fresh from its collapse in 2008. But, after my first time talking to a doggie daycare that made the Today Show and becoming friends with a cat, I realized the career also paid in memories... amply... and there’s really no place I’ve worked that has created more memories for me than Salem. It’s the beat I’ve worked the longest as a reporter; the most recent Halloween marked my 10th in the city.
It also marked my last.
On Oct. 24, seven days before Halloween, I turned 40. I did so without having yet saved any money for retirement, and while working at least 70 hours per week at two to three jobs for the last several years. The combined paychecks still put me a good bit below median household income for the area — something that comes to mind every time I see a comment online that talks about how people should try living where they can afford to.
There's also a dark side to journalism that has emerged in the last half-decade, one that I’d argue doesn’t get enough attention. It’s one of the few industries that is entirely private while also being fully public-facing — journalists are effectively public officials, without the protections and benefits of being public officials. We take a lot of shots from readers, some of whom would delight in us being out of the job and financially destroyed, and we just chuckle and move on with our day.
For the dark side, there’s also the light. In some parts of the real world, journalists are thanked for their service as if we’re active military. I’ve been compared to nurses working the pandemic, held up as a leader stabilizing a maligned society, and invited to share my perspective and experiences with high school classrooms, podcasts, even Boy Scout troops.
Being a reporter pays well in the memories you collect along the way (thankfully they aren't subject to a tax). To that end, I’ve at times felt wealthy for having the privilege of covering a city like Salem — even with its dark underbelly actively arguing that I shouldn’t have a job or be allowed to exist.
With this double-edged sword equipped for so long, I knew I’d put it down at some point. When thinking about the kind of job it would take to leave the news industry, I found there was really only one that kept coming up in my mind: an opening in Communications at my Alma Mater, UNH. That would honestly be a dream... a position like that opening at a college campus I knew so well. To my fortune, that exact position opened in my backyard toward the end of 2023, on a college campus I know just as well as UNH — if not better.
In early June, I’ll be switching careers as I assume the role of Associate Director of External Communications at Salem State University.
I loved my college experience and always joked that if I won the lottery, I'd go back to school and get a degree in physics, do something nutty with string theory. But really, there’s something about the college environment where I’m most comfortable: everybody is there to learn and grow, and, from each graduate, society receives an opportunity for transformation. The feeling you get walking through a space like that can't really be replicated anywhere else... At least that's the fuzzy feeling I get when walking onto a college campus.
It’s hard to imagine leaving the only world I’ve known professionally and no longer covering the city I love, but I’m not going that far. I’m still working in the same beautiful city and would love for you to say “hey” when you see me out doing whatever. You may also see my byline from time to time, and I think I'd even like to continue doing “the spreadsheet” each night polls are open.
But, for now, this bro is going off the record to go back to school.

2024.05.21 12:12 Kuma-pun My dream come true

So I have been unfortunate(?) enough to be a release player. I'm a fanatic believer of stealth sniper (or stealth archer for Elder Scrolls), so naturally that's the path I have chosen for F76, too.
I was just minding my own business, doing the story part all by myself. Reading all notes, listening all Holotapes, looking at all the little gimmicks and so. Say what you want about Bethesda, but that's one thing they don't screw up.
So anyway, I'm having really fun in the game, just chilling. Even getting somewhat proud I can solo all these main quests. Later on I can fairly easily solo a scorchbeast, too.
But then I look over the rim of the tea cup: Public events. Needless to say, stealth sniper is totally useless. On top of that, my equipment ist total garbage. (You couldn't roll legendaries yourself back then...)
All these level 200-300 (was considered high-level at that time xD) totally owning the events with their cool, high-explosive heavy weapons. I'm in awe. I'm jealous. But I have no luck getting a good weapon. Eventually I quit.
Fast forward to the Fallout Series. If I don't come back now, when do I?
So here we go: Login and immediately be overwhelmed: So much changed!! Took me a week to figure out what legendary perks are. So I screw my ego and read some guides. Luckily I'm good at grinding and still have a lot of basic stuff over from the begining. Time to update my character! But the stealth stays :)
Now comes the important part: The current season. Damn, I love the cremator. Lucked out on my first roll with a Aristrocrat / More Crit / breaks slower. Seemed pretty decent to me.
So little me equiping all the necessary perks for heavy guns and goes alien event hopping! Daaaaaaaaaaamn! So much frigging fun!! Explosions everywhere, can't see shit on screen, EXP non-stop!
I have finally become what I dreamed of: The marsupial hopping little gunner plastering the battlefield with explosives non-stop! Why is this so much fun!!
Best part: I'm only level 183 and still can improve my build. Trying to roll a two-shoit cremator now, but only got an instigating one so far, which is still a good opener.
tl;dr: I still love my stealth build, but blowing up everything is so much fun!!

As a proud owner of the Black & Decker Collapsible Wagon, I can confidently say that it has become my go-to companion for all my outdoor adventures. Whether I'm heading to the park, the farmers' market, or just working on my garden, this sturdy wagon is always by my side to transport all my essentials.
What I love the most about this wagon is its heavy-duty, all-terrain wheels. They make maneuvering the wagon through different terrains a breeze, and the 360-degree wheel rotation ensures a smooth ride, even when going up or downhill. The handle, which can be used to comfortably push or pull the wagon, secures in place when not in use, providing an added level of convenience.
One standout feature is the telescoping handle that allows for easy storage when the wagon isn't in use. It folds into a compact size, making it perfect for small spaces, especially when you're not on your next adventure. However, I did find that sometimes the plastic tire could be a bit annoying, especially when using it for beach trips.
With its large capacity and portable design, the Black & Decker Collapsible Wagon truly lives up to its name. Its sturdy frame and durable polyester canvas fabric ensure it can handle up to 176 pounds, making it a reliable choice for all your outdoor needs. And with its Velcro pocket and two cup holders, you can stay organized and hydrated on the go.
Overall, the Black & Decker Collapsible Wagon is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a convenient and versatile wagon to handle all their outdoor adventures. Its easy maneuverability, sturdy construction, and space-saving design make it a standout product that has earned its 5.0 rating from users.

The Wonderfold Wagon S4 Push and Pull is a versatile companion for all your outdoor activities, from beach trips to camping adventures. With a telescopic pull handle and adjustable push handle, you're in control of maneuvering this wagon even in tight spaces. The wagon boasts a foldable canopy, perfect for shielding your little ones or your belongings from the rain.
One of my favorite features is the one-step foot brake at the back, ensuring your precious cargo stays secure while you take breaks or navigate tough terrains. However, I noticed the plastic wheels may not be as durable as rubber ones, making the ride a bit less smooth on certain surfaces.
Craftsmanship is solid overall, but the plastic straps and certain frame components appear a bit more bendable than expected. A few users shared concerns about the overall sturdiness. On the bright side, the wagon is stylish and has a compact design when folded, making storage a breeze.
With its ease of use and large capacity, the Wonderfold Wagon S4 Push and Pull is an impressive choice for those who want a convenient and sturdy option for outdoor trips.

🔗Lightweight Aluminum Hunting Wagon for Outdoor Adventures

https://preview.redd.it/b7y38mma8r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5886411431a0d8fcdb3e862e80239408bc18f3da
As a nature enthusiast, I stumbled upon this Calypso Cruiser Wagon during my last camping trip. What sets it apart is its sturdy, aluminum construction—rust-resistant and ready to endure even the harshest terrain. The weight of just 50 pounds is remarkable for a wagon that can haul up to 350 pounds, making it a convenient companion for my hunting expeditions.
My favorite feature has to be the large, 14-inch pneumatic tires. They roll over any terrain with ease and leave no trace; a perfect match for my nature-loving spirit. The extra-large deck fits smoothly through standard doorways, and the built-in drain holes keep my gear away from unnecessary water.
The removable side panels are a thoughtful addition, ensuring that my gear stays in place during transit. Ergonomic hand grips prevent strain, and the clevis attachment makes it easy to hook up my ATV or other vehicles, making the wagon a versatile tool for my outdoor adventures.
However, while the wagon is made for any terrain, it didn't fare so well in turning. The aluminum plates that make up the swivel needed some grease to turn smoothly. This ended up causing some friction and, after prolonged use, left tiny grits that made the swivel feel like sandpaper.
In conclusion, the Calypso Cruiser Wagon is a great tool for those who love the outdoors and appreciate the convenience of transporting their gear. Its lightweight rust-resistant construction, versatility, and ergonomic design make it a worthy investment for frequent camping trips, fishing trips, or any outdoor activity. Despite the occasional challenges in turning the corners, the overall experience was great, and I look forward to more adventures with this sturdy companion by my side.

🔗Coleman Collapsible Camping Wagon for Festival and Beach Adventures

When I first saw the Coleman Collapsible Camping Wagon, I thought it was a fun and practical way to transport my gear for outdoor adventures. The red wagon arrived with all its parts together, but as soon as I started setting it up, I realized that this was not your average toy wagon.
The first thing I noticed about the wagon was its size when used - a whopping 106 x 53 x 100 cm. It was bigger than I expected, but it also had a significant load capacity of 85 kg, which was a great advantage for when I needed to bring more stuff on my trips. The storage size was also impressive, at 18 x 40 x 77 cm, which was enough to fit my camping gear comfortably.
Now, let's talk about the wheels. The wagon had a set of four wheels, each with brakes for full control. This was particularly useful when I needed to navigate through different terrains or when I had to stop suddenly. However, the tires were not the best quality. After a few trips, they started to wear down, and I had to replace them eventually.
Another feature that stood out was the removable reinforced bottom. It made it easy for me to clean the wagon and store it away when not in use. The steel frame also made it strong and durable, although it was a bit heavy to lift when folded.
The trolley came with a few accessories, including a rubber band with a hook and a storage case. The rubber band was handy when I needed to secure my belongings, while the storage case was useful when I wanted to keep the wagon organized.
However, there were a few downsides to using this wagon. For instance, the handle material was not the most comfortable to grip, especially when I was pulling heavy loads. It also required a bit of assembly, which could be a hassle for some people.
Overall, the Coleman Collapsible Camping Wagon was a useful tool for my outdoor adventures. It was sturdy, spacious, and easy to use, although it had a few flaws that I had to address. If you're looking for a reliable wagon for your outdoor trips, this might be a good option, but be prepared to spend some time setting it up and maintaining it.

I recently took the Coleman Camp Wagon on a camping trip, and it made hauling all of my essentials a breeze. The rugged polyester bin and swivel steel frame provided supreme durability, even while trekking through rough terrains.
The accordion folding design and carry case made transporting it hassle-free, and maneuvering it was effortless with the telescoping handle and swivel front wheels. One negative aspect I encountered was the 150 lb weight limit, which limited the amount of gear I could bring along. Overall, the Coleman Camp Wagon proved to be a reliable companion for my outdoor adventures.

Struggling with essay deadlines? Here's what saved me!
I know the pressure of juggling multiple assignments, exams, and social life can be overwhelming. A few months ago, I found myself drowning in deadlines and utterly stressed out. I had three essays due within a week, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't keep up. That's when I discovered speedypaper.com, and it honestly saved my academic life.
I was initially skeptical about using a writing service. There are so many out there, and it’s hard to know which ones are reliable. But after reading several positive reviews, I decided to give SpeedyPaper a try. They offer a wide range of services, from editing to custom essay writing, and their user-friendly interface made it easy to place an order.
https://preview.redd.it/n6pubnpd4r1d1.png?width=1184&format=png&auto=webp&s=ff368b54db817337aa52c86a6f6aac663b958a10
One of the things that stood out to me was their customer support. I had a few questions about the ordering process and the types of papers they could handle. The support team was incredibly responsive and helpful, which immediately put my mind at ease. I submitted the details of my assignment, including the topic, length, and deadline, and within a few minutes, I received a confirmation email.
The turnaround time was impressive. I had a 10-page research paper on climate change due in three days, and they delivered it well within the deadline. The quality of the paper exceeded my expectations. It was well-researched, well-written, and formatted perfectly according to the APA guidelines. I made a few minor tweaks, but overall, it required very little editing.
Using Speedy Paper not only helped me meet my deadlines but also gave me more time to focus on other important tasks. I managed to prepare for my exams and even squeezed in some much-needed relaxation time. My grades improved significantly, and I no longer felt like I was constantly playing catch-up.
While SpeedyPaper has been my go-to, I’ve also heard great things about a few other services that you might want to consider:
  1. essaymarket.net: This site is known for its top-notch quality and diverse range of services. They cater to various academic levels and can handle tight deadlines without compromising on quality. Plus, their prices are quite reasonable, which is always a bonus for students on a budget.
  2. writepaperfor.me: Another excellent option, Write Paper For Me is praised for its user-friendly platform and reliable writers. They offer a satisfaction guarantee, which means if you’re not happy with the final product, they’ll revise it until you are. This level of commitment to customer satisfaction is truly commendable.
  3. papercoach.co: If you’re looking for a service that combines quality with affordability, Paper Coach is worth checking out. They have a reputation for delivering high-quality papers on time and offer a variety of discounts for first-time and returning customers.
In conclusion, if you’re struggling with essay deadlines like I was, don’t hesitate to seek help from a reliable writing service. Speedy Paper saved me from a lot of stress and helped me improve my grades.
Good luck with your studies, and remember, it’s okay to ask for help when you need it!

2024.05.21 11:51 Klutzy2627 AITA FOR GETTING MY BROTHER IN LAW'S SISTER AND HER FRIEND KICKED OUT FROM THE WEDDING

It was my cousin sister's wedding and we are Indians, so if you are Indian or know Indian friends/weddings, you know the drill - the daysss long wedding events, the heavy dresses and jewelry, and also, some serious family dramas.
My cousin and I are very close even if there is a huge age gap between us. Naturally, when her wedding came around I was very excited and I helped a lot with the planning and decoration and the food - literally everything. It was exactly as we have imagined her wedding to be like. Just perfect in every way possible. But again, it's a wedding. How is a wedding ever complete with a Drama Llama? So dear potato community, here is the tea.
The man that my cousin was marrying to, my current BIL, is an amazing man who has been with my cousin since their college days. They were friends in their college days and when they started working they joined the same company so they remained close to each other. Friendship turned into love and they decided to date and eventually get married. Both the families were informed and everyone was very happy with their decisions, except just one person. BIL's sister. She didn't have any personal problems with my cousin, her only issue was that her best friend liked my BIL, let's name this friend the 'idiot' (because she truly is an idiot and this is honestly the nicest word I can use for her).
When idiot found out that BIL loved someone else and is getting married, she went ballistic. She has been trying to get his attention for so many years and he didn't even turn towards her even for one day and he was being head over heels for my cousin. I understand her being upset, I have been a girl in love and in heartbreak too, but I wouldn't try to break someone's marriage because of my heartbreak.
Yes she tried to stop their marriage via BIL's sister. The two forged all types of absurd accusations on my cousin and tried to anonymously sneak in the accusations in means of messages from unknown numbers to my cousin's then future FIL and MIL, to emails and even letters delivered to their doorstep. My cousin was really stressed because she thought the FIL and MIL would think the accusations are true and would stop the wedding. I told her, "don't worry sisso, I am here." (add dramatic music here and imagine a cape on my back).
My cousin's father (my maternal uncle), me and my brother first went to the FIL and MIL to let them know that all of this was false and that my cousin is innocent. We asked them for some time and that we will find proof of who has been sending them those false news and will let them know of everything and then they are free to judge and make decisions from their side. We got the permission from them and decided to get to work immediately.
One thing I forgot to mention was that BIL used to live in his own house in a different state from where his parents lived after he got a job. Before this, my cousin and BIL used to live in one town and went to college together. Once they got their jobs, they both came to my city, BIL got his own house and my cousin came to live with me. His family came to live with him when he told them that he wanted to marry so they came help him with the wedding arrangements. What's unfortunate is that the sister also brought her best friend, the 'idiot', who was in love with my BIL since she was 15 and BIL was 17.
I mentioned BIL having his own separate house in a new town because it was important to mention. Both his sister and the idiot didn't know he installed security cameras in his house and that the camera was pretty well hidden so they couldn't have noticed either. We asked BIL if we can see the camera's recordings and we saw someone early in the morning at 4 am dropping a letter. Guess who it was... THE IDIOT!! We showed it to my cousin's FIL and MIL and they cross questioned the idiot about it and she was in tears and admitted to everything. She and BIL's sister apologized for everything. They were forgiven and it was a happily ever after... or so you thought...
Everything after that was pretty peaceful, all the arrangements were made and we are now at the wedding day. My cousin was really jumpy and on her toes at all times, she was panicking so bad about everything. My brother and I had to sit her down and talk her out of her panic. She however mentioned that she was scared that idiot might try to pull up some sick stunt to ruin her wedding day. I however told to her calm down cause I wouldn't let my precious angel's wedding get ruined. I have seen enough Charlotte's videos to know that we must always have a backup plan prepared in advance in situations like this. And so I did. I collected a lot of information and evidences and kept them in place in case they come in handy.
I had my suspicions that they would do something to mess up the wedding way before it even became a thought in my cousin's mind, so I did a little research about the two. Since we all belong from the same hometown, I got in contact with my friends who still lived in the town that my cousin and my BIL used to live in. I asked around about these two baboons and found out that BIL's sister had a boyfriend and has even slept with him. Premarital smex is a big no no here. As for the idiot, I found out that she was slowly getting BIL's sister into illegal substances and into becoming a call girl. Again, a big no no. And I think no parent in this world would want their child to do something that would end up in trouble for them and the child as well. I knew my cousin's FIL and MIL would be worried about their daughter and take actions immediately if I let them know of this. I would have told them this after the wedding was over anyway, but that would have been in private so no one else would know, but I guess the girls wanted something else.
Once the wedding ceremony started and the guests were all there, they were enjoying, everyone was having fun and giving their blessings to the new husband and wife to be. These two pain in the asses were going around and gossiping about my cousin to everyone. We noticed that, and we came up with a quick solution. I asked two of my male friends, who is very attractive to go and talk to the girls. However I told them to switch on their recorder and be with them no matter what. God bless my two friends, they did exactly what I told them without thinking twice. They came to me after an hour or so and told me what was going on.
The two girls were planning to ruin her wedding dress. When I tell you that shit was costly, IT WAS COSTLY. It was really heavy with all the heavy stone work that was done on the cream colored lehenga and if it was stained it would be ruined. We could not afford that in any cost. She was taking a glass of juice from the juice counters and tried sitting right behind the bride but I stepped in and told her to go sit behind her brother and that I would sit behind my cousin. She was trying so hard but me and my brother kept pushing her off and away from my cousin. Eventually she did manage to throw it but it accidentally landed on someone from the groom's side and she got scolded by her. While her grumpy face was funny to see, I still had enough because if that aunty wasn't there, it would have been my cousin. After the wedding was over and people were going to start taking the photos with the couple, I announced that me and my brother had some things to say. Initially we talked about the bride and the groom but then we shifted the attention to the groom's sister and her friend. We played the audios of the calls I had with her friends in the hometown as a surprise to the groom's sister. There were a lot of angry faces, some on the sister and some on me and my brother. I tried to explain, that had she and her friend not try to ruin my cousin sister's wedding dress, this wouldn't have been broadcasted to the entire wedding venue. I then called my two male friends and both of their faces was in gasps. Both of them pulled out their phones and I played the recordings on one of the phones, which explained how they were still spreading fake news about my cousin and also them planning to ruin my cousin's dress. We also got the video recording of them actively trying to throw the red colored drink on my cousin's dress.
Both of them got kicked out from there and weren't allowed to enter until the rest of the ceremony was over. Both of them stood outside, making attempts to convince anyone who would listen to them and let them in, but no one paid heed to them. Once everyone got home they were scolded badly and my BIL's sister kept screaming at me that I was so mean and rude to have their truths exposed to not just her family, but to every relative and friends who was there to witness the show. While my cousin was glad that I had her back and my brother is standing in support of me, my parents and some of our relatives think that it should have dealt within the family and shouldn't have been exposed to anyone outside of the immediate family members. AITA?
Note: I am so sorry if the post ended up being too long but I just wanted to give all the context that would be required to judge the entire situation and my actions as well. Also if something doesn't make sense just blame it on my sleepy head cause I wrote it in half sleep mode.

🔗Stanley Quick Flip Go Water Bottle: 24 oz., Tigerlily, Dishwasher Safe

https://preview.redd.it/70u2s2334r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f71c05c8affa7a4c94dfbb6b87590203cbfc4684
As a product reviewer, I've had the pleasure of trying out the Stanley 24 oz. Quick Flip Go Water Bottle in the Tigerlily color. This water bottle has become a staple in my daily routine.
The first thing that caught my eye was its sleek design – perfect for carrying on the go. The double-wall vacuum insulation is a real game-changer. Whether I'm sipping on iced water in the summer or a hot cup of tea in the winter, the temperature remains consistent for hours.
One feature I particularly appreciate is the trigger-action lid. It's easy to use and helps prevent spills, making it great for when I'm on the move. Plus, the fact that it's dishwasher safe is a lifesaver. No more scrubbing by hand!
However, there are a couple of downsides. Firstly, the weight of the bottle can be a bit of a struggle for those who prefer a lighter option. Secondly, the dimensions might not fit all car cup holders, which can be a hassle during road trips.
Overall, the Stanley Quick Flip Go Water Bottle has been a reliable companion in my everyday life. Its combination of style, functionality, and durability make it a must-have for anyone looking for a reliable water bottle.

🔗Cold Steel Heavy Duty Nylon Cane with Rubber Ferrule

https://preview.redd.it/v48i5gn34r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64aac772c9910fa7f43dc2f916fb8b53b380e7fc
I've been using the Cold Steel Heavy Duty Cane in my daily life, and it has proven to be quite the companion. The nylon handle provides an enhanced grip that makes it convenient to hold, while the steel construction ensures structural strength for long-term use. I particularly appreciate the rubber ferrule, which is designed to be slip-resistant, making it an excellent choice for uneven terrain or icy sidewalks.
One downside is that it might be a bit heavy for some people, especially those who don't need the extra weight for support. However, the overall design and engineering of the cane are top-notch, and it gives me a sense of reassurance knowing I have a sturdy and reliable walking staff whenever I need it.

🔗Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel: Robust, Stainless Steel Outdoor Essential

https://preview.redd.it/onud1it34r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19aa78d8c58949aae696362f44a26b21b9da0dca
This past summer, I found myself on a weekend camping trip and realized I didn't pack a shovel. I needed to dig a small trench around my campsite to divert water. Luckily, a friend had a Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel that he let me borrow. On the first day, he taught me how to use it. The edge was sharp, and the handle felt sturdy. I was surprised by how strong it was. I struggled a bit at first, but it didn't take long before I was able to dig the trench.
After returning from the camping trip and reflecting on the weekend, I realized that the shovel had some flaws. Firstly, it was a bit heavy for a camping trip, and I felt it could cause strain on my back over time. Secondly, it didn't come with a sheath, which was inconvenient since I had to keep it in my vehicle's trunk, where it took up too much space.
Despite these issues, I still appreciated the durability of the Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel. It was clear that it was designed for heavy-duty tasks. The edge remained sharp even after I used it heavily. The wooden handle felt comfortable to hold, even though it was a bit on the thick side.
Overall, the Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel was a functional tool, but it could be improved for camping trips or situations where portability is a priority.

🔗Cold Steel Smatchet: Deluxe Edition for Playstation 5

As someone who thoroughly enjoyed diving into the Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and IV, let me share my experience with this dynamic duo. The deluxe edition for Playstation 5 was a refreshing return to the rich world of Erebonia, where war hero Rean Schwarzer began his new life as an instructor at Thors Military Academy's branch campus.
What stood out to me was how the game expertly handled the aftermath of the Erebonian Civil War and introduced new threats to keep the story alive. Delving into it with the improved RPG gameplay on PlayStation 5 made my journey even more immersive. Plus, the cosmetic DLC available with these iterations ensured that every member of my party was looking their best, adding a unique touch to the experience.
However, like any other game, it wasn't all smooth sailing. There were moments that were a bit challenging, but overall, the Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and IV truly delivered an engaging experience that I thoroughly enjoyed as a fan of the genre.

🔗Heavy Duty Cold Grease Remover for Effortless Cleaning

As a home cook who's always experimenting with new recipes and kitchen tools, I've found myself in a bit of a pickle when it comes to removing stubborn grease from my appliances. That's why I was thrilled to try the Shumanit Cold Grease Remover.
Right off the bat, I found it remarkable how quickly this cold grease remover works. No need for a heat source or any harsh chemicals. In fact, it's effective on all sorts of surfaces - my oven, pots, frying pans, baking trays, stainless steel dishes, cooking surfaces, steam extractors, and even hard-to-clean vents.
I've had my fair share of leaky packages in the past, but the Shumanit Cold Grease Remover was surprisingly well-packed. It comes in a sturdy plastic bottle with a trigger spray that's easy to use.
The product has a delightful citrus smell that lifts the spirits while I'm getting my hands dirty in the kitchen. Plus, the grease and grime just seem to vanish as if by magic.
However, there's one small downside to my Shumanit experience. On one occasion, the package was partially leaking, which made me worry about the condition of the other products in the batch. I just hope it was a one-time issue and not a trend.

The thick stainless steel walls not only keep my iced drinks cold for two days but also keep my hot beverages warm for up to two weeks. Plus, the leak-proof lid doubles as a cup, providing a convenient and easy-to-use option for sipping on the go.
The 2.5-quart capacity is ideal for sharing drinks with friends or keeping a large quantity of your favorite beverage at the ready. I've washed my Stanley Classic Legendary Bottle in the dishwasher without any concerns about rust or BPA exposure, and it continues to perform as well as it did on day one.
Overall, the Stanley Classic Legendary Bottle has become an essential part of my outdoor gear, and I can't imagine spending time in nature without it.

🔗Stanley Vacuum Insulated 1.5qt Bottle: Leakproof and Durable for Any Adventure

https://preview.redd.it/hv1cfgh54r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92c3e83a1e6ed9bde65bd49c95962c0425bd9025

For my outdoor adventures, the Stanley Legendary Classic Bottle 1.5qt Habitat has truly been a game-changer. This insulated beverage container ensures my drinks remain at the perfect temperature for hours on end, whether I'm savoring a hot cup of coffee on a chilly morning or enjoying an icy beverage on a sweltering day.
One of my favorite features is the stainless steel construction, which not only makes the bottle sturdy and durable but also ensures it's free of BPA, a nice touch for any health-conscious individual. The double-wall vacuum insulation, another key highlight, works wonders in keeping my beverages at their desired temperatures, even in extreme conditions.
However, I found that the bottle can be quite difficult to clean, especially along the insulated areas. Additionally, the screw cap lid, while functional, can be a bit tricky to twist off after a while, depending on the grip strength. These minor inconveniences aside, the Stanley Legendary Classic Bottle has proven to be an indispensable companion on all my outdoor excursions.

🔗Versatile Cold Welding Formula for Robust Bonds

https://preview.redd.it/4ogfz5u54r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4866a573a4c06607a53a48abca3bb57ecd3aa95
Recently, I got my hands on the J-B Weld Original Cold-Weld Formula Steel Reinforced Epoxy. I was intrigued by the fact that it could serve as an inexpensive alternative to welding, soldering, and brazing. To my surprise, this versatile epoxy proved to be a game-changer in my daily life.
One of the most impressive features of the J-B Weld epoxy is its water-resistant nature. I used it to seal a leak in my water pipe, and it worked like a charm. The epoxy's petroleum and chemical resistance made it perfect for my project, as it withstood various tests without any damage.
Another standout feature of this product is its non-toxic and safe-to-use nature. I used it to fix my child's broken toy, and its safety made me feel more comfortable.
However, I did notice that the mixing ratio of the epoxy is quite sensitive. One must be cautious not to deviate too far from the 1-1 ratio of liquid steel/epoxy resin and the hardener. A slight miscalculation could result in a weaker bond or the need for reapplication.
In conclusion, the J-B Weld Original Cold-Weld Formula Steel Reinforced Epoxy is a must-have for DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike. Its ease of use, remarkable strength, and versatility make it a standout product in its category. Despite the minor drawback of the mixing ratio, the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience.

🔗Insulated Bottle for Long-Lasting Beverages

I recently put the Stanley Classic to the test on an outing to the mountains. This bottle is a true companion for outdoor enthusiasts, with its impressive 18/8 stainless steel construction and BPA-free design. The 1.5 quart capacity means it can handle all types of drinks, from hot coffee to icy coolers, and keep them at the optimal temperature for up to two days. The folding handle is a clever added feature that allows for easy carrying without the risk of it rolling away.
One of the standout features of this bottle is its leakproof design, making it a reliable option for packing in a backpack or storing in a truck bed. The wide mouth also makes it easy to fill and clean, which is especially helpful for those who enjoy making their own homemade brews. However, I did notice that the bottle is quite heavy, weighing in at 2 pounds, making it more challenging to carry for longer periods of time.
Overall, the Stanley Classic is an excellent investment for those who love spending time outdoors and need a reliable companion to keep their drinks at the perfect temperature.

🔗Portable Insulated Water Bottle with Silicone Straw

https://preview.redd.it/l5lg54i64r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e07172bcc88a069950d96dd4cfb862f209f40f40
I recently had the chance to put the Cooper Stainless Steel Water Bottle to the test, and I have to say, it impressed me with its performance. The most standout feature of this water bottle is its ability to keep drinks cold for an impressive amount of time. I often struggle to find a water bottle that can truly keep my beverage chilled all day long, but this one did just that. The double-walled and vacuum insulated design does an excellent job of maintaining the temperature of the liquid inside.
Another feature I appreciated is the leak-proof lid. No matter how rough I was with it, it never leaked once. The one-touch silicone push button locking mechanism helped keep my bag and clothes dry, while the straw was a fun and convenient addition. Cleaning it was also a breeze, thanks to the top rack dishwasher safe lids and BPA-free materials.
However, I did experience a downside with the product - it isn't suitable for hot beverages. If you're someone who prefers drinking tea or coffee, this may not be the best option for you. Additionally, I found it slightly difficult to fit the bottle in my usual cup holders, which can be inconvenient during travel or at the gym.
Overall, the Cooper Stainless Steel Water Bottle did an incredible job of keeping my drinks cold and providing a leak-proof, easy-to-clean design. Although there were minor drawbacks, I still enjoyed its benefits and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and stylish water bottle.

🔗Stanley 1.1 Qt. Legendary Classic Canteen - BPA-Free Stainless Steel

https://preview.redd.it/fva5u8074r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=021a8e122aa23b47e0dbf977a9a0b77939f8066e
I recently had the chance to try out the Stanley 1.1 Qt. Classic Canteen, a 18/8 stainless steel bottle that promises to be leakproof, packable, and perfect for outdoor use. At first glance, the canteen looks sleek and sturdy, with a classic design that makes it easy to hold and carry around. It comes equipped with a removeable carrying strap that keeps your hands free and adds a touch of style to the canteen.
One of the standout features of this canteen is its non-insulated stainless steel material, which allows for easy packing while still offering a decent capacity for your favorite beverage. However, I found that the lack of insulation means that the canteen doesn't retain temperature as well as I would have liked. While it's fine for day-to-day use, it's not ideal for taking on long hikes or camping trips where maintaining the temperature of your drink is important.
Another downside to the canteen is the attached cap, which can be a bit tricky to open and close, especially with one hand. Though I appreciate the convenience of having it attached, it would be nice if the cap were more user-friendly and easy to access. Additionally, the metal clips on the carrying strap can be quite loud when walking or hiking, which can be a bit distracting and might not be the most discreet choice for stealthily navigating through the wilderness.
Despite these minor drawbacks, overall I found the Stanley 1.1 Qt. Classic Canteen to be a functional and stylish option for everyday use. It's a good choice if you're looking for a versatile water bottle that won't break the bank, but just remember to manage your expectations when it comes to insulation and noise.

🔗Corkcicle 32oz Sport Canteen: Triple-Insulated, Wide-Mouth Drink Container with Quick Sip Lid

https://preview.redd.it/g8jdgja74r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5900642083119fc5f56b1e9d8f8477efab04f303
The Corkcicle 32oz Sport Canteen boasts a spacious 950mL capacity, perfect for hydration while on the go. Its quick sip lid adds convenience to everyday use, and the signature flat sides and Duraprene finish ensure a secure grip.
Triple-insulation maintains drinks at their desired temperature for extended periods, making it an ideal choice for both hot and chilled beverages alike. A wide mouth allows for ice cube insertion, while the lid's easy-to-use one-hand opening adds practicality.
Regrettably, some users have experienced issues with the lid's functionality and structure, which may prove a disadvantage for those seeking a seamless drinking experience. Nonetheless, for those seeking a durable, stylish, and functional water bottle, the Corkcicle 32oz Sport Canteen offers an impressive range of features.

🔗Versatile Insulated Water Bottle with Cup Lid

https://preview.redd.it/ba7lnum74r1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4236dde9fc2a1109edb6d8a02ff4d627c9fb186e
This Stanley Classic Legendary Bottle, aptly named "Nightfall, " has become an essential companion in my daily life. The bottle's robustness and dependability have captivated me, as my newfound favorite keeps the brew piping hot during those frigid mornings or even chills your favorite beverage during scorching summer days.
One of the key features that have blown my mind is its innovative, leak-proof design. By using the twist-and-pour stopper, it ensures that my adventures are safe from any accidental mishaps involving the bottle. Moreover, the slim design makes it the perfect single-handed companion, ensuring a comfortable grip.
However, there are a couple of minor nits. The lid being insulated and doubling as a cup is a fantastic idea, but I found it a tad more tedious than convenient during my first few times. Additionally, while the bottle's sturdiness won my heart, it unfortunately lacks a wider mouth, which might make it a bit more practical for my soup-loving, chunky ingredients cravings.
The Stanley's performance has made me believe it's not just about the product but also about the spirit of adventure it represents - one sip at a time. Despite a few minor quirks, it's a reliable bottle worth every penny spent.

Crafted in the image of the infamous Darth Vader, this Corkcicle Star Wars canteen is not just a stylish way to keep your drinks cool. The 16-ounce canteen promises to keep beverages cold for up to 25 hours or warm for 12, all thanks to its triple-insulated lining. Its stainless steel construction ensures it's not just durable but also perfect to use in any setting, be it by the pool or at the office. The canteen is equipped with a screw-on cap that prevents any liquid from escaping and keeps the temperature consistent inside. The ergonomic design and flat sides make it easy to grip, and its stay-put silicone base ensures it stays securely in your hand, avoiding any spills.
My experience with this canteen has been nothing but stellar. The Star Wars design is not just aesthetically pleasing but also adds a fun touch to my everyday life. The triple-insulation keeps my beverages at their desired temperature for longer, especially during our hot summers. The cap is a great feature that prevents leaks and spills, and the ergonomic design makes it comfortable to hold. However, I wish the product was dishwasher safe as the paint tends to peel off after a few uses, which can be a bit disappointing.

Designed specifically for CCM 2-Bolt Goalie Cowlings, this complete set comes with both left and right runners, ensuring perfect fit and seamless functionality. Made in Canada, the high-quality craftsmanship is evident in every aspect of the blade, from its sleek design to its exceptional edge durability.
While the hardest possible edge offered by Step Steel Black is undoubtedly impressive, I also appreciate the added Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating on the mirror side finish, which significantly boosts blade performance by generating a winning combination of low friction and high surface hardness.
What sets Step Steel apart from other blade manufacturers is their innovative aspect ratio, which accelerates pushes across the crease for modern butterfly and hybrid goaltenders. The taller blades and truer profile offer added stability, precision, and width, ensuring less bending or improper sizing upon receiving the product.
Overall, the Step Steel St Goal Blacksteel CCM Replacement Steel - Pair is a game-changing product that combines superior edge quality, innovative design, and unrivaled performance. If you're looking to enhance your goaltending experience, look no further than Step Steel.

2024.05.21 11:48 deepestfear PSA: Telstra 5G modem vs fixed wireless NBN

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. Hope you're all well.
I live in Melb, and have FTTP, and consistently get 950/40. It's not really necessary, but through a few hacks I am getting it for $89 per month via Aussie Broadband, and have done so for nine months now (basically, their $20 off for new customers + $20 off for upgrading speed, and when it ended, I threatened leaving, and they just caved and let me keep it for that speed).
I'm using a Deco mesh setup - their XE75s, three of them, two are hardwired, one wireless. I think because it's an apartment, the wireless one is able to reach the others on the 6Ghz band, and I think that makes a big difference, given the amount of interference on the 5Ghz band (we live in an apartment block). Now Wifi 7 is on the horizon.... exciting times. If only I could get my hands on a cheap set of Deco BE65s or so, just to test them out! But I know many areas aren't approved fully yet - for me, the most important being the tech that improves the range and speed of the 6Ghz band.
Anyway, the point of the post is that at my parent's house, in rural VIC, they only have fixed wireless. No matter which provider I tried - and despite installing a mesh Deco X75 system (5Ghz backhaul, without the 6E) - they would get 50/10, max. Anyway, then I found out about the whole "Telstra 5G modem thing". Basically, it is $80 a month, and if you are eligible, they send you a modem/router that has a 5G chip in it. Because we are fairly close to a Telstra tower, my parents signed up, and with the Deco units in access point mode, they are now getting consistently, including peak periods, 300/30 or so. Sometimes even 400/30 or more. The latency isn't bad, 5ms or so. I just did a speed test now, 555/31, during peak period.
So to anyone in rural areas - consider signing up for this plan, if you can. The only downsides I can see are: a) you are limited to 1000GB data per month (which is a lot, really, and if you go over it, your speed is decreased, you aren't charged more), and b) they limit the number of households per postcode who can sign up - otherwise it would become so slow and hence pointless. $80 a month is reasonable, too, my parents weren't paying much less than that for their fixed wireless plans.
Apparently the NBN people are "upgrading" the fixed wireless near their home late this year, who knows what that means, maybe a tower closer to their home, which may improve the fixed wireless speeds and latency. There are just too many homes, trees, obstacles between their house and the tower, along with the sheer distance (around 6km).
So yeah, it was just as a PSA. If anyone can think of any downsides, please comment, I'm not an IT guru, I'm just impressed that we can get these speeds. The Deco units are doing an excellent job, given only one is hardwired (into the WAN of the Telstra modem/router, they're entirely relying on a wireless backhaul in a five-bedroom, old home, with many walls between the units (about eight walls between the originating node and the furthest node). Connecting to the furthest node gives speeds around 300/25 or so, on average.

2024.05.21 11:43 hamadzezo79 Christianity isn't logically appealing at all

I am not even talking about scriptural problems within the bible, You don't have to open a single bible to start seeing the problems,
1-) The Problem of Salvation and Faith (Why the plan of salvation is ridiculous, and has failed)
I.The ridiculousness of the plan
A. Demanding blood for remission of sins Heb 9:22 - Why is this the terms that god insists upon? Isn't he the architect of the parameters regarding sin, punishment, and forgiveness? Is he not able to forgive sin without blood sacrifice? Can he not say, “No blood sacrifice necessary, I just forgive you?”
B. God sacrificing himself to himself to save us from himself by creating a loophole in the architecture for condemnation he engineered in the first place? This is your solution for a problem in which you yourself are the problem. It’s like a doctor stabbing people to be able to operate and save them.
C. Dying for someone else's crime does not equal justice in any court.
D. The sacrifice was not a sacrifice at all :
  1. Jesus is said to be eternal
  2. He spent a few days in misery out of his billions of years plus of existence
  3. He spent a minutiae of a fraction of his existence suffering knowing he would be resurrected after the ordeal and spend eternity in divine luxury, and that somehow provides him justification to sentence us to trillions of years of eternity suffering without end?
  4. Jesus is a supernatural immortal who suffered temporary mortal punishment and then sentences mortals to supernatural eternal punishment if they do not receive his sacrifice.
  5. Why is three days of punishment followed by eternity in glory sufficient for all the horrible deeds any man has ever committed, but billions of years suffered in hell by a good moral person who does not believe due to lack of evidence is not sufficient?
2-) Nature of The Christian god
I. He is supposed to be an all Powerful and All mighty being and yet he died on a cross by his own creation (If you see someone claiming to be god and then you saw him hie before your very eyes, How on earth are you supposed to conclude anything else other than "This guy is a liar"?)
Modern Christians would respond to this saying "Only the Human part died, The Divine part wasn't affected"
Which again, doesn't make any sense :
A. Even when assuming a human sacrifice is somehow necessary for salvation, The sacrifice of 1 Human being can never be Enough to atone for the sins of all of mankind since Adam and Eve till the return of jesus.
I found a Coptic pope explaining this issue in detail, Here is a link to his book, https://st-takla.org/books/en/pope-shenouda-iii/nature-of-christ/propitiation-and-redemption.html
Quoting from it : "The belief in the One Nature of the Incarnate Logos is essential, necessary and fundamental for redemption. Redemption requires unlimited propitiation sufficient for the forgiveness of the unlimited sins of all the people through all ages. There was no solution other than the Incarnation of God the Logos to offer this through His Divine Power.
Thus, if we mention two natures and say that the human nature alone performed the act of redemption, it would have been entirely impossible to achieve unlimited propitiation for man's salvation. Hence comes the danger of speaking of two natures, each having its own specific tasks. In such case, the death of the human nature alone is insufficient."
It's very clear that saying only the human part died doesn't make any sense, Even according to the Christian theology itself.
B. The Trinity is based on a false idea
I know, It's a classic Argument against Christianity but you can't deny that it's an actual damning argument against the Christian theology.
  1. God is all knowing but Jesus wasn't all knowing (mark 13:32)
  2. Jesus is supposed to be god, but he is praying to himself to save himself with cries and tears?? (Luke 22:41-44)
  3. Jesus is god but we can't say he is good because only god is good?? (Luke 18:18-19)
  4. God can't be tempted by evil (James 1:13) but yet jesus was tempted by satan?? (Matthew 4:1)
  5. Jesus is god but he can't do a thing on his own?? (John 5:31) 6.Jesus is supposed to be the same as the father, But their teachings are different? (John 7:16)
And so many more, Throught the bible i can't help but notice the intense number of verses which clearly states Jesus can't be god.
3-) The Problem of a Historical Jesus (Why we don’t know the actual historical Jesus)
I. No contemporary historical evidence,
A. No historian alive during Jesus day wrote about Jesus despite ample opportunity
  1. The kings coming to his birth
  2. Herod’s slaughter of baby boys
  3. The overthrowing of money changers
  4. Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem where he is declared king by the whole town.
  5. Darkness covering the whole earth for hours on Jesus’ Death
  6. The earthquakes at Jesus’ death
  7. The rending of the temple veil at Jesus’ Death
  8. The resurrection of Jesus that was seen by 500 witnesses.(Only Paul claims that, even tho he never met jesus)
II. The Gospels are contradicting, late hearsay accounts
A. Mark, the earliest gospel, was written at least after 70 A.D. (referencing fall of temple) by a non-eyewitness, and makes numerous cultural and geographical errors that a Jewish writer would not have made such as locations of rivers, cultural customs regarding divorce, locations of towns or Jesus quoting from the greek Septuagint etc. (see geographical and historical errors in this link, https://holtz.org/Library/Philosophy/Metaphysics/Theology/Christianity/Criticism/Bible%20Problems%20by%20Packham%201998.htm#ERRORS )
B. The other gospels all copied from Mark. Luke and Matthew contain over 70% of Mark and mainly make changes in attempts to fix blatant errors made in Mark and to correct Mark’s poor grammar. The writer of Luke even reveals to us in Luke 1:2 that he was not an eyewitness, but that the story has been passed down to him.
C. Four where chosen by the church father Iraeneus because he believed the earth was founded on four pillars and so too, should the gospels be founded by only four accounts.
Iraenus also revealed the names of the Gospels in the late second century, without any reason to assume they where the authentic authors - no one knows who actually wrote them!
D. John was initially considered heretical by the early church because of its variation from the synoptic but was overwhelmingly popular amongst Christians and so was included.
E. The book of Revelations was also considered heretical by many :
For centuries The Revelation was a rejected book. In the 4th century, St.John Chrysostom and other bishops argued against it. Christians in Syria also reject it. The Synod of Laodicea: c. 363, rejected The Revelation. In the late 380s, Gregory of Nazianus produced a canon omitting The Revelation. Bishop Amphilocus of Iconium, in his poem Iambics for Seleucus written some time after 394, rejects The Revelation. When St.Jerome translated the Bible into Latin, producing the Vulgate bible c. 400, he argued for the Veritas Hebraica, meaning the truth of the Jewish Bible over the Septuagint translation. At the insistence of the Pope, however, he added existing translations for what he considered doubtful books: among them The Revelation. The Church in the East never included the Revelation.
4-) The early church did not seem to know anything about a historical Jesus. Huge amounts of disagreement over Jesus in the first hundred years :
  1. Some churches didn’t even believe he had a physical body, prompting Paul to write about that very issue.
  2. There was an enormous debate between all the major early churches as to whether Jesus was divine or not, this was settled at the council of Nicea by the Roman Emperor Constantine.
5-) Which Bible?
A. Over 450 English versions of the bible All are translated using different methods and from entirely different manuscripts
B. Thousands of manuscripts disagreeing with each other wildly in what verses and even books they contain.
C. Different translations teach entirely different things in places, some often leaving out entire chapters and verses or containing footnotes warning of possible error due to uncertainty about the reliability of the numerous manuscripts.
Take a look at this example, 1- Revised standard version 2- Revised standard version Catholic edition 3- NEW revised standard version Updated edition 4- NEW revised standard version Catholic edition 5- NEW revised standard version, Anglicised 6- NEW revised standard version, Anglicised Catholic edition
How many attempts would it take to finally get it right ?!
6-) The Morality of the bible
I don't like using Morality as an argument because i believe it's a subjective thing, But I cannot help but notice how the morals of the OT and the NT are completely contradictory
In the OT god was Angry, Vengeful, Demands war, order genocides, Ordered the killing of children and even the ripping open of pregnant women.
But in the NT he somehow became loving, a father figure, saying if anyone hits you you shouldn't even respond back.
There is so many Theological confusion, A salvation idea that makes 0 sense, Lack of any form of historical critirea of knowing what is true manuscripts and what is hearsays (The authors of the gospels are all Anynomous),
There is even disagreement within Christianity itself about what stories go into the bible (Many stories have been found out to be false like John 8:1-11 and Mark 16:18)
https://textandcanon.org/does-the-woman-caught-in-adultery-belong-in-the-bible/
The lack of consistency on literally everything makes it one of the least convincing religion in my opinion.

2024.05.21 11:31 Toteldejesus How octogenarian Cecile Guidote-Alvarez rushed to the beauty salon to tackle West Philippine Sea

On a rainy Saturday afternoon not so long ago when internet connection was fluctuating in most homes, the 80-year-old Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, widow of the late Senator Heherson Alvarez, carrying a mini iPad, hurriedly alighted from a three-wheeled pedicab Toktok and stormed her way into a popular coffee shop in a mall in Manila.

A senior citizen in panic mode, she told the stunned baristas she’s looking for a Wi-Fi connection because she was about to interview retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio via Zoom.
The coffee shop, a known world brand, has Wi-Fi exclusive to its employees, so the old lady was told to try other establishments. She went from one coffee shop to another only to be told the same, until a kind stranger led her to a well-known beauty salon with a free internet connection.
The lady salon attendant was very accommodating to the octogenarian, even typing the password on her IPad. Of course, she needed to avail herself of their salon services. Initially, she opted for a haircut, but since she needed to talk and hear clearly who she was talking to, she settled for a foot spa with pedicure.
“They lowered the volume of the piped-in music, and since there were less customers because it’s been raining all day, I was able to do my interview,” Guidote-Alvarez said.
For the next half-an-hour, the hair dressers and manicurists working with their scissors, nail clippers and cuticle removers on their customers’ hair and fingernails, listened to Carpio and Guidote-Alvarez discussed how Filipino fishermen and the Philippine Navy ships helplessly negotiate their ways in Scarborough Shoal amid the territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea.
“They were all very nice to me. I was able to finish my interview, with newly pedicured nails,” she told The Diarist.
For those who’ve worked with Guidote-Alvarez, her steadfast, almost stubborn, nature to accomplish a task, is nothing out of the ordinary. She would improvise, find alternatives, call up friends and former students, wake them up from sleep, just to get things done.
But now, in her 80s, legally blind and nearly deaf, she has mellowed down.
Cecile Alvarez with her mentors, National Artist for Literature Alejandro Roces, Jr and Fr. James Reuter. SJ
In her twilight years, Guidote-Alvarez has been solely hosting the 57-year-old Radyo Balintataw on DZRH, one of the oldest radio stations in the Philippines, where she tackles a wide range of topics, from climate change, women’s health, theater, culture, dance, to current issues, apart from playing old recordings of classic radio plays she produced and directed, dating back to the late ‘80s.
She shared with TheDiarist.ph how she started and continues to host one of the longest running advocacy programs on AM Radio.
Theater on TV
After founding the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) on April 7, 1967, or exactly 57 years ago, Guidote-Alvarez thought of the need to expose PETA’s members to television, so she started conceptualizing Balintataw, which in Filipino means the pupil of the eye, but in a larger context has something to do with having wild imagination, or what you might see if you have a third eye.
“I designed Balintataw as a bridge between cinema and the stage, where the youth being trained in theater skills can have a ready-made laboratory experience linked with the film and entertainment industry that would likewise have a natural on-the-job training and orientation regarding the theatrical discipline of working with a literary script, whether dramatic or comic—not the regular improvised script done on taping or copycat scripts from foreign themes,” Guidote-Alvarez wrote in her yet-to-be published Memoir of a Freedom Fighter’s Wife.
“A primary goal when I conceived PETA was to initiate and sustain artistic expression that draws meaning and power from the lives of the people, and sharing the literary gems with a greater number of audiences through a Broadcast Theater-Film Program with Balintataw on Channel 5,” she added.
“No matter how little the pay, at least it provided our local writers with a little honorarium. I sought permission for award-winning pieces of the Palanca Playwriting contest to be fleshed out to reach the masses. The much-awarded playwright Bert Florentino served as our literary manager, assisted by Mauro Avena. Eventually, Isagani Cruz took over when Bert left for the US,” she wrote.
“Writers need exposure and encouragement through a regular TV performance that will give them a sense of achievement and inspire them to keep on writing with some kind of honorarium. I was glad Lupita Aquino (now Kashiwahara) agreed to be TV director and Robert Arevalo as TV host.
She got members of the PETA Kalinangan Ensemble to serve as stage directors. “This is to undertake preliminary preparation with a rehearsal with the actors for character development and memorization and preliminary staging,” she wrote.
Five months after PETA was founded, Balintataw TV premiered on Channel 5 on Aug. 19, 1967, coinciding with the Buwan ng Wika birthdate of President Manuel Luis Quezon.
The first play, whose title escapes her now, featured Armida Siguion-Reyna and Maria Eva “Chingbee” Kalaw. She employed photo journalist and award-winning photographedocumentarist/cinematographer, Romy Vitug, to work with her in filming outdoor scenes for Balintataw.
In the pre-Martial Law Balintataw, among those initiated into television were Lino Brocka, Elwood Perez, Nick Lizaso, Maryo delos Reyes, Mario O’Hara, Joey Gosiengfiao, Behn Cervantes, and Frank Rivera.
Among the stage actors who crossed over to television were Lily Gamboa, Angie Ferro, Lorlie Villanueva, Jonee Gamboa, Joy Soler, Sherry Lara, Gardy Labad, Noel Trinidad.
Like with PETA, Guidote-Alvarez directed and managed Balintataw for five years. Because of Martial Law, she and husband Heherson went on exile in the US to escape a military shoot-to-kill order on Heherson, who was tagged as a subversive.
Post-Martial Law
Internationally acclaimed auteur Lav Diaz mentioned in several interviews how he learned writing radio and TV scripts in Balintataw.
This happened in the late 1980s, when the Alvarez couple returned from exile.
Despite its absence on the air in the Martial Law years, Balintataw was honored by Star Awards as among the 20 unforgettable outstanding broadcast programs in the Philippines.
“This encouraged me to consider reviving Balintataw on TV. Another blessing was a FAMAS award for having an important role in the development of cinema recognizing Balintataw as a bridge for synergizing cinema with the stage, providing a pathway of entry of our PETA artists into film and for movie stars to consider enriching their experience by acting on the legitimate stage,” Guidote-Alvarez wrote.
Though she didn’t return to PETA anymore because it had been surviving well and had its own set of officers led by Brocka, she just tapped some of its members for the return of Balintataw.
For 14 years, the Alvarez couple lived in the US as political exiles, shown here during a Ninoy Aquino Movement meeting. Cecile revived Radyo Balintataw upon their return in the late 1980s.
Channel 4 stint
“I arranged to revive TV Balintataw on Channel 4 in 1989. We began with a drama about a rebel returnee, title escapes me now, but I clearly remember it was written by Lualhati Bautista and directed by Maryo de los Reyes. We also had a good story series on the hazing of Lenny Villa, an Aquila Legis Frat neophyte,” she wrote.
At the time, Heherson had been elected senator after having served as Agrarian Reform Minister and eventually Cabinet Secretary during the first year of the Cory Aquino Administration.
“We were able to unravel the deadly hazing process from a fellow neophyte who broke the code of silence as we revealed graphically, acted the cruel process used. I had Jose Mari Avellana direct it. This presentation won all the awards. Lav Diaz was training with us and he started writing teleplays. We also had Nora Aunor in an adaptation of Bert Florentino’s The World Is An Apple, adapted by Frank Rivera, and I had Nick Lizaso direct.”
Emmy Awards
Balintataw TV was selected as one of five soaps for social change recognized by Emmy Awards. The Philippines was one of five countries cited, with Mexico, India, Brazil and Kenya.
“The nomination was made possible by the wonderful support from David Poindexter. It was a supreme honor for our country to be recognized in the Emmy Awards, to be cited among the five Third World countries using soap opera for social change.”
Poindexter was a Methodist minister and TV producer who founded the Population Communications International.
Surviving on radio
“In spite of the cry about how television can be deadening the minds of the people with copied themes with an eternal favorite love triangle story, there was really no funding for Balintataw,” she wrote.
“Sponsors would go naturally to the commercial stations where big stars were paid highly for the starring role. Balintataw may have substance but we could not afford payment of bankable stars,” she added.
“Financial stress forced me to drop TV and remain on radio because I didn’t want to kill Balintataw per se just because we didn’t have funds.”
Creative classroom
“We have focused on Balintataw as a creative classroom on the air. I was able to talk to Fred J. Elizalde of DZRH and the president of the network, Mr. Jun Nicdao,” she wrote.
In the ‘80s, the HIV/AIDS became a global epidemic and in the Philippines, the general populace was still clueless on how to deal with it.
“In order to get funding, the first series I did was about the explosive news regarding AIDS in Asia. I got the DOH Secretary at the time, Dr. Juan Flavier, to act as himself, providing the data. It was easier to start off with an AIDS radio serial.
They did a minimum of 13 episodes to raise awareness about the disease.
“From then on, some of our television scripts we transformed into a radio version. DZRH provided us with our initial production staff, so we used some from the network and some of its resident artists and drama talents. Our time slots were changing but always coming after the long-running horror drama, Gabi ng Lagim.
“We worked on the themes of overseas workers, the drug problem, corruption, aside from portraying contemporary and literary classics serving as social commentaries,” she wrote.
Women playwrights
“We dramatized the works of noted women writers and playwrights like Estrella Alfon, Genoveva Edroza Matute and Marilou Jacob, who is distinguished in being a founding president of Women’s Playwright International.
“Apart from our PETA staple of writers, we involved young, upcoming and budding university and community theater groups.
“We also had a lot of foreign plays, where we could feature theater festivals beyond borders. We could do Shakespeare, we could do Euripides but also the current playwrights in the Arab region we translated in our language.
“We brought in Chinese contemporary plays, Malaysian, Indonesian and from other women writers from ASEAN member countries.”
Virtual history book
“The significance of Balintataw is portrayed as a virtual history book on audio as it unveiled events in the country. Radio is fresh, instant and up-to date,” she added.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Balintataw became Guidote-Alvarez’s outlet and therapy. Having lost her husband on the second month of the pandemic, a widow cocooned at home, she began hosting it six days a week, learning how to use an iPad and interviewing via Zoom.
The word “Balintataw” has been associated with her name.
Visual artist and editorial cartoonist Benjie Lontoc in casual meeting told us how in his younger days, when AM Radio was a national past-time, he was surprised to hear a Filipino adaptation of No Exit by Jean Paul-Sarte. This was when radio was airing soap, fantasy adventures targeting housewives and children.
Another was the airing of Larawan as a radio play in the 1990s, with Guidote-Alvarez as the voice of Candida Marasigan.
Leopoldo Salcedo (left) as Manolo in a confrontation scene with Dante Rivero as Tony Javier in PETA’s 1968 ‘Larawan’ directed by Cecile Guidote-Alvarez. (Photo from PETA archives)
In the 1960s, she directed Larawan, the first Filipino adaptation of Joaquin’s A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino for PETA’s second season. It ran from December 1968 to January 1969 at the Raha Sulayman Theater at Fort Santiago in Intramural. In the cast were Rita Gomez (Candida), Lolita Rodriguez (Paula), Leopoldo Salcedo (Don Manolo) and Dante Rivero (Tony Javier).
Guidote-Alvarez has a funny recollection of the radio play. It was Nick Joaquin himself who told her years ago how his pedicurist suddenly started a conversation about Larawan.
Joaquin was relaxing on the barber’s chair having a post-haircut pedicure and foot spa when the lady pedicurist asked him how the story would end. Joaquin was stunned because he didn’t want to be known in the barber shop as Nick Joaquin the famous National Artist for Literature, but just a regular customer.
“He told me he almost fell out from the chair. He was a very private person and the pedicurist recognized him as the playwright,” Guidote-Alvarez, laughing, told TheDiarist.ph.
When she was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, she was given only three years to live. It’s been more than two decades since then. She has also conquered COVID-19 twice.
Over and beyond her work in theater and various advocacies, Guidote-Alvarez is among the few surviving practitioners of AM Radio broadcasting.
The beauty salon incident wasn’t a first for the octogenarian radio host. She occasionally went back there to interview guests and record her shows whenever Wi-Fi connections in her home fluctuated.
Despite all setbacks, man-made or otherwise, the steadfast Cecile Guidote-Alvarez’s voice continues to be heard in this mass media platform in an era that knows mainly Spotify. As Joaquin wrote, “to remember and to sing, that is her vocation.”
(Except Saturday, Radyo Balintataw airs daily on DZRH 666 Khz AM radio after ‘Gabi ng Lagim’, and live streamed on radio.org.ph. Some episodes have been uploaded on YouTube.)
