Ok so basically my year 9 EOY tests have just finished and I fucked up big time. For biology i got 64% physics 73% and chemistry 48%. I really tried studying the stuff we learnt but a lot of it was stuff we have rarely ever seen.
For my language Spanish it was a multiple choice reading test. This test was very difficult as my fellow peers said but some of the really dumb ones got extremely lucky and got 30 out of 45 and more meanwhile, I got a 16/45.
I am in the middle set for english and i fucked up the poem analysation test and got a 7/15 because I read the question wrong.
The only thing I didnt royally screw up was math were i got 85% and 92% on the two tests.
I have been really de-motivated and I really hope these don't go on my record. Just so you know I started studying the week before these tests.
Is there anything I can do better next time or any study habitats I should learn? And do these tests affect anything about my college application or anything?

I am blown away by how much this sub and interest in a female-centric version of Warhammer 40k has become in the last week or so. You’re all amazing!
A few months ago, I had some ideas for a noblebright version of 40k where the primarchs and Emperor were female. The inspiration was cnmbwjx’s incredible art, which I am pleased to see has inspired many of you as well. I considered creating feminine versions of the primarchs’ names and came up with a list. I figure this might be a good time to share it along with my thought process behind them.
Before we begin, this is in no way an attempt to derail anyone’s canon. I have seen several names on this sub that I think are better than what I came up with. I also think there is something to be said for using the original primarchs’ names if that is your preference. Girls don’t have to have “girl names” after all~
Feel free to use these or not. I just wanted to share because I think my thoughts on the origins of the original names and ways to play with them could help others to come up with their own takes on these characters.
This is going to be a very large info dump, so I’m going to divide this thread into multiple threads released daily (hopefully). Some of the names require lengthy discussions (brace yourselves for Konrad Curze) while others require relatively little. I will go through the list according to the numbered order of the primarchs. I think about two primarchs per day will work.

My goal was to come up with satisfying names that stay true to the original names and their meanings / inspirations as possible. Where that was not possible or seemed to produce an unsatisfactory result, I afforded myself more creative liberties to try and capture the themes of the character and the sound of the original name.
I preserved alliteration with the all but one of the original names. I left surnames unchanged.
The majority of my posts will be an analysis of the original primarch names and an explanation of my reasoning for my feminine twist on them. It is my hope these explanations will assist others in their creative processes.
I have also included my suggested pronunciations for the names I think have unclear pronunciations. I did not use IPA phonetic notation because I do not think it is accessible for a casual reader since it requires using a reference list for the symbols. I instead use approximations of English syllables. Please let me know if any are unclear.
Several of these explanations may be straightforward to English-speakers and those familiar with 40k lore, but I think a detailed explanation is more inclusive. I have a feeling this sub will introduce many people to 40k that wouldn’t otherwise get into the official setting, so I want to help make your lore journeys easier.
Finally, I relied on Wiktionary and Wikipedia in researching the etymologies here. I am aware these are not ideals sources, but they’re the best I can do because of my work life. I would appreciate any corrections and supporting evidence. I certainly discovered some issues in my initial research going back through this list.
I: Leona Es’Jonson (Lion El’Jonson):

A lioness is a female lion, so I felt compelled to stick to that. However, Lion El’Jonson is one of the cleverer primarch names.
It’s a reference to Lionel Johnson, a nineteenth-century English poet who was both a devout Catholic and a gay man. Lionel was at war with his own identity, which led him to write the poem “The Dark Angel.” The poem is an expression of forbidden desire and the torment of keeping secrets while trying to stay loyal to a higher power that you believe will condemn you if it found out who you really are. Sounds just like the Dark Angels space marine chapter with their secret shame over something that wasn’t their fault.
While Lioness loses this literary reference, I do feel that valor and fierceness are much more a part of Lion’s character than the secretiveness of his chapter. Therefore, I stuck with referencing the animal, which is synonymous with themes of ferocity and bravery.
Edit: A few days after posting this, I remembered that "El'Jonson" is not a surname, but a title. It was given to Lion upon his discovery by the people of Caliban after he had been living in the woods alone. In the language of Caliban, it means "Son of the Forest." My girlfriend likes the name "Leona Es'Jonson," which forms a double pun by making the Spanish word for "lioness" sound more like the English word "lioness."
Perhaps "Es'Jonson" means "Daughter of the Forest" on Caliban~

I was raised a catholic but they do not believe in reincarnation. I have long ways to go in terms of religion but I absolutely believe in God and Jesus. However, I am very much so intimidated by the thought of God and death. I have always dealt with this feeling of derealization, like I am unreal in this life, but at the same time, a familiarity with the world. I feel a deep connection with the past, particularly with the 1800s-1900s. Despite this, I am unsure of how many lives my soul may have lived. I have not had the privilege of experiencing past life regression therapy. I am not sure whether to trust it, though I have felt drawn to it since I have learned of its existence. I have been afraid of falling subject to scams, so I’ve avoided many therapists and fortune tellers. I once heard a woman a couple years ago in a restaurant talking about her past life she learned about through a therapy session but couldn’t make too many words out. Still, I was shocked and felt envious of her experience, wishing I could learn about my past life/lives. This was much after I’d first learned about past life regression therapy.

I looked in the mirror and suddenly thought of the name “Laura” and since then have felt that my past life name from a certain time was Laura. I feel a deep connection to church bells and the feeling of soft grass beneath my feet as well. I often have a restless sensation and a feeling that I am not truly home. It saddens me deeply. I’ve had many visions that I cannot explain, and was wondering if anyone could provide me with some insight. Anything.
Though I have adapted to many things within this time, I feel that my soul belongs elsewhere. I feel as though I am living behind a mask to become accepted and that it is not the real me. I have a set in stone belief that i want to be buried under the ground instead of cremated. I am very argumentative about it. I am fond of old fashioned poetry, fascinated by gothic gravestones, and gothic architecture. I long to be one with the earth and have written poems about it. I recently read Richard Wright’s autobiography which dealt in part with his tumultuous time as a member of a U.S. communist group in the 1930’s. I also read a number of Orwell’s essays written shortly after the Spanish civil war in which he discusses the ideology. One thing Orwell brought up that I thought was interesting (partly quoted below) was the pervasive self-censorship by communist western writers during that time. Makes sense - nearly all US/UK communist parties were more or less emulating USSR standards.
Among the many issues Wright encountered while he was a member was the constant peer pressure to censor not just what he said in official writings (eg for their magazine), but also his own work. If any party member stepped out of line (or was even perceived to have - which was troublesome due to how much paranoia raged throughout the group) all sorts of bullying tactics were use. Such as expelling, threatening, shunning, attempting to get former members fired at their job, assaulting them on the streets, or worst of all being called a Trotsky-isk (it’s like being called a mix of Benedict Arnold, Hitler, and a 5 month old puppy that a spoiled child has grown bored of)
This censorship counters something I have noticed is more common in writers/artists than the average person - the desire for freedom of expression. what about the movement was appealing enough for writers to fight for something that denies this? (and perhaps huge portion of the entire literary canon)
But the core question is this: what caused writers / artists to be drawn to communism at higher rates than most other professions?
Most often when reading the work of those actively in favor, they talk earnestly of social and economic equality for all. But if that was truly their primary end goal, socialism alone seems more closely to align with it without the need for censorship. Furthermore, socialism was a moderately prevalent & established ideology at the turn of the 20th century (and had a number of notable writers gaining success releasing works with overarching socialist themes - eg Upton Sinclair & Jack London & Orwell). Was it just seen as old hat (too slow, ineffective) at that point? Or is the focus on the employed lower class just not personally applicable enough for an artist fortunate enough to survive on the profit of their art?
A while ago I read an essay by Chomsky in which he quoted a bit by either Marx or Engels indicating that the ideology has always hinted at a sort of aristocratic literati. Was this what really brought so many writers in (more than fixing economic inequality issues already addressed by socialism)? Sure, the revolution theoretically frees the workers & disposed of great economic inequality, but ( better yet) with our artistic skills we will be reserved a special place right at the foot of the ideological ruler’s throne! Who cares if it’s as jester or propagandist, we will still find ourselves comfortably sat near the table of power. not in the fields toiling, but amongst the intellectual elites. They can see through the propaganda.
(This brings to mind an article by a journalist stuck in an air conditioned hotel somewhere like Qatar with a bunch of other journalists during the Iraq war c. 2003. Every day they would come out to watch a news conference by a low ranking general who never appeared to know anything nor have any updates. The part that irked me was when the journalist wrote that every journalist in that room was rolling their eyes & joking about the bullshit waste of time… yet the journalists continued writing up & sending out the regurgitated bullshit en masse, acting like they were getting break news & the US people were being informed of it.
The journalists all know they’re being toyed with, so if those people who read the trickle down news conference updates and believed anything but the same - they were contemptuously stupid & deserve their own eye roll, no doubt.
Completely ignoring another option entirely - don’t carry on with the charade of being a government mouth piece… the press could print meaningful journalism or push real questions to the 1 star or call them out on the obfuscation [who else could? Only media allowed]. No, just an eye roll and jokes amongst themselves while they continue to perfectly fulfill their place as the apparatchiks, but at least they know it’s a farce.)

But the core question is this: what caused writers / artists to be drawn to communism at higher rates than most other professions?
Most often when reading the work of those actively in favor, they talk earnestly of social and economic equality for all. But if that was truly their primary end goal, socialism alone seems more closely to align with it without the need for censorship. Furthermore, socialism was a moderately prevalent & established ideology at the turn of the 20th century (and had a number of notable writers gaining success releasing works with overarching socialist themes - eg Upton Sinclair & Jack London & Orwell). Was it just seen as old hat (too slow, ineffective) at that point? Or is the focus on the employed lower class just not personally applicable enough for an artist fortunate enough to survive on the profit of their art?
A while ago I read an essay by Chomsky in which he quoted a bit by either Marx or Engels indicating that the ideology has always hinted at a sort of aristocratic literati. Was this what really brought so many writers in (more than fixing economic inequality issues already addressed by socialism)? Sure, the revolution theoretically frees the workers & disposed of great economic inequality, but ( better yet) with our artistic skills we will be reserved a special place right at the foot of the ideological ruler’s throne! Who cares if it’s as jester or propagandist, we will still find ourselves comfortably sat near the table of power. not in the fields toiling, but amongst the intellectual elites. They can see through the propaganda.
(This brings to mind an article by a journalist stuck in an air conditioned hotel somewhere like Qatar with a bunch of other journalists during the Iraq war c. 2003. Every day they would come out to watch a news conference by a low ranking general who never appeared to know anything nor have any updates. The part that irked me was when the journalist wrote that every journalist in that room was rolling their eyes & joking about the bullshit waste of time… yet the journalists continued writing up & sending out the regurgitated bullshit en masse, acting like they were getting break news & the US people were being informed of it.
The journalists all know they’re being toyed with, so if those people who read the trickle down news conference updates and believed anything but the same - they were contemptuously stupid & deserve their own eye roll, no doubt.
Completely ignoring another option entirely - don’t carry on with the charade of being a government mouth piece… the press could print meaningful journalism or push real questions to the 1 star or call them out on the obfuscation [who else could? Only media allowed]. No, just an eye roll and jokes amongst themselves while they continue to perfectly fulfill their place as the apparatchiks, but at least they know it’s a farce.)

It is almost inconceivable that good novels should be written in such an atmosphere. 'Good novels are not written by by orthodoxy-sniffers, nor by people who are conscience-stricken about their own unorthodoxy. Good novels are written by people who are not frightened.

First time posting. I'll try to keep it short but include necessary details. My parents, sister and I were estranged from my grandfather and his wife for 30 years. Little back story, he wasn't exactly a great dad to my mom, she never had a good relationship with him and he left when she was around 12. We are from Czechoslovakia and when the Russians invaded my grandfather left with his second wife to move to Canada. My mom got married young, had my sister and me and when I was 2 they decided to leave as well and the one good thing my grandfather did was help us come to Canada, something I have always been grateful for. He was in our lives when I was little, though he openly favoured my sister (he admits to it now, though he can't remember why). She was older, stronger, faster, while I was quiet and shy and sleepy. We were good kids, normal, typical, active. But his home never felt welcoming. Not warm and safe like a grandparents home should. Looking back, he was a very selfish man. My mom also says she could never rely on him, he wasn't there like a dad should be though she desperately wanted a dad. I give them both grace though, as I learned of their lives. He was born in Spain and when he was little his family had to leave due to the Spanish civil war. Then when in Brno the Nazis came and life got really tough. His sister died as a teenager followed shortly by his mother. My great grandfather was brutal and beat him severely and the threat of death was always there from the Germans, along with hunger. It was a very difficult life. I don't know how difficult his wife's life was, but she did lose a child very suddenly when the girl was 11 or so and that must have broken her. Perhaps she treated us the way she did partially cause of that trauma. I don't know. When I was about 12 and I visited them as I did regularly at that time, I told them a poem I learned at school and they got offended by it. I have no clue, I don't remember. They demanded an apology. My parents were like what the hell for? And we didn't speak for 30 years. Crazy I know. I saw him a few times in that time, once for a funeral as a teenager. He never called, never expressed interest in seeing me or my sister. Since then we grew up, I ended up having a daughter in my 20s, raising her alone, life goes on. About 8 years ago I reached out to him, just to see and I think cause his wife was developing dementia and his life was chaos he expressed no interest. So I gave up. But then 3 years ago I decided what the hell, the man is very old, I don't want regrets, his wife is in long term care and he's alone. I'll try one last time. And he was very glad. We've been in contact ever since. I visit him regularly and as time goes on and he needs more help I've been trying to help him more and more. I have POA, he doesn't like to ask for help so he usually ends up on the floor and I have to call 911 and then he accepts it. Our relationship has grown, he likes our discussions, we discuss history and our lives, I'm the only person he gets to speak Czech with. He's now 92 and it's really showing. He's ended up in the hospital twice this year. I've been trying very hard to arrange help for him, care while he's home, lots and lots of things going on, reaching out to whoever I can since I can't see him daily. I work full time and literally can't. This week has been particularly difficult since he's in hospital so I'm dealing with all that stuff, my mom needs extra help from me since my dad is away for a few weeks and she's post surgery, I have to be there for my daughter who has some mental health struggles of her own, plus I have all the normal work and life stuff. I'm stretched super thin and exhausted. I'm trying my best to fulfill my grandfather's wishes. Not mine.
When I called the ambulance last week his neighbour who sometimes checks on him came by. She offered to check on him daily if he needed and expressed concerned. I've spoken to her only a few times over the past few years. They were pleasant and short conversations. She took my number when the paramedics were at the house. I texted her how he was doing and then asked if she was willing and able to check on him, she has no obligation but that I needed to figure out everything before he was sent home from the hospital. She never responded. I was arranging for someone to come clean his house since its frankly gross (he kinda soiled himself before he fell) and at his age he just wasn't managing the way he should. No clutter or anything too bad, he just doesn't see certain things and he needed new bedsheets and a bunch of stuff. So I arranged for that but I needed the cleaner to have a key to the house. So I asked that she return the spare key she has. She responded that she will only return it if my grandfather asks for it back. Then an hour later texted that I'm a terrible person, where have I been, my texts to her were rude and I only want his house and money, that she knows all about me and she's blocking me and to never contact her again. I'm happy to share screen shots of the conversation but going over it I don't see where I was rude. It really threw me off cause I've been trying so hard to arrange help. Yes I'm inheriting the house. But that's what HE wants. I would help him either way. He is big on family legacy and he wants the house to stay within the family. My mother wants nothing to do with him and my sister doesn't really talk to anyone in the family. That literally leaves just me (his wife has no living family and all their friends are dead). I've never been motivated by money. I know many people do take advantage of their elderly relatives for inheritance. It's always disgusted me and I make sure to check myself to ensure my intentions are good. But now my future neighbour hates my guts, thinks I'm a gold digging awful person. I think cause I'm stretched thin, exhausted and trying my very best her comments really hurt. I don't think I deserve them, she's never tried to get to know me and knows nothing about what my family has been through over the past 30 years or why I wasn't in his life all that time. I was a child, I had no say when we stopped talking. He could have reached out and has thanked me for calling him, admitting he had to much pride to pick up the phone and do the same.
