Ever-shifting Short Seller Claims
The short sellers attacking RILY in 2023-2024 have been relentless (currently 57% of float sold short per FinViz), with an ever-shifting list of wild accusations.
It's sickening to watch them compile a never-ending list of baseless wild theories and claims to support their short positions, which are demonstrably false. But as each is proved false, they pivot to new claims, and/or change the goalposts.
The sheer volume of shifting claims makes it hard to track how despotic they are with their "platform," and how many falsehoods they've spun. Even for someone who watched it in real-time, for almost a year

Sunlight kills vampires. To that end, I've compiled a list of (i) claimants (ii) claims (iii) reality (iv) definitive source proving reality.
Why Did They Target RILY?
One of the most vocal short sellers, Nate Koppikar (who also introduced Marc Cohodes to the "opportunity") has a fund Orso Partners. Based on their SEC registration document, this is their investment thesis:
"The Account’s investment objectives are to achieve capital appreciation primarily by identifying and
selling short marketable equity securities of
underfollowed and
complex companies with
misleading or corrective disclosures through a research-intensive process. The Account employs a short-biased investment strategy with an emphasis on primarily
small to mid-cap companies that are
underfollowed and
complex (i.e., companies with
market capitalizations of less than $5 billion which the
market does not yet have a wellformed bull and/or bear perspective)."
RILY fits their description. The icing on the cake was the relatively large market cap, and the relatively small float. Given extremely high insider ownership (32.9% of shares per the proxy), and limitations on when and how insiders can trade, the "free float" of the stock (i.e., the shares that regularly trade) is very small for the size of the company. Moreover, the setup would only get better - given insiders have consistently used their free cash to buy additional shares hand-over-fist (further reducing the float).
That meant, with relatively small amounts of capital, the short sellers could shove around the stock price. That ability to move price opens another profit avenue - taking large derivative positions (buying puts, and selling calls), and shoving the price (or allowing it to drift up) to profit all along the way. It looked so good, the stock has been the highest-shorted on the US indices for several months. Even after the release of the 10-K, shares remain "hard to borrow" with elevated borrow fees.
Debunked Claims
The claims made by vocal short sellers could fill a book. Most were outrageous and fanciful when they were proposed. Virtually all have objectively debunked. This isn't a comprehensive list, as their claims are too numerous and varied. But it paints an illuminating picture.
With a track record this poor, one would expect the short sellers to exit - rather than continuing to spin new narratives. Perhaps the continued attacks are their exit strategy to avoid bankruptcy... Well, #Bullish.
With the highest short interest of all US stocks (albeit likely decreased from the highs of ~76% of the float), I think this is more than ripe for a return to fair value - or well above, if a short squeeze occurs.

Note that the list below deliberately excludes three types of posts/claims from the short sellers: A) Juvenile personal attacks and attempts to character assassinate and dox a long list of people (RILY CEO, RILY new hires, RILY clients, Marcum the auditor, Marcum's lead audit professional, any firm or individual publicly posting a bull thesis on RILY, etc.). B) Those that make no objective claims, but simply exist as a product of malicious degeneracy (like pictures of roasted pigs in ovens labeled Bryant Riley the CEO, photoshopped pictures of the CEO in prison chains next to convicted felons, video of an obese woman barely able to walk being gored by a bull labeled Mrs. Riley the CEO's wife, etc.). C) Those that are impossible for short sellers to know, and impossible to objectively verify (e.g., Marc Cohodes claiming a single RILY trader front runs the CEOs personal short trades in front of clients taking following the firm's bullish advice on those stocks, to guarantee profits). Hello, I worked at menards and I did countertops for 5 years doing laminated sheets and blue prints (CAD). MENARDS always have promised a secure job. Im always thankful for my plant manager, managers, supervisors, and coworkers. Just today my wife (who's going on their 5th year) got terminated. No reason. She has excellent attendance. Never called in sick (maybe twice within the 5 years). She works in Data Entry and Invoices.
-how is this a possibility? -I thought we were always promised work as when we get our IPS. -it's sad to say I heard many people left the company this year when I left (at least what I've been told)

Hi, I am new to excel so excuse my ignorance!
I am trying to sum specific columns in excel across multiple sheets. Not all sheets have the same columns, and some columns are in different locations within the sheets.
I have this general function working for an individual sheet with arbitrary arrays that will capture the data I need-
=SUM(INDEX(B3:ZZ1000,0,XMATCH("Column Name",B2:ZZ2,0,1)))
I then was able to make a multi sheet function work by just adding another index/match-
=SUM(INDEX(SHEET1!B3:ZZ1000,0,XMATCH("Column Name",SHEET1!B2:ZZ2,0,1)),(INDEX(SHEET2!B3:ZZ1000,0,XMATCH("Column Name",SHEET2!B2:ZZ2,0,1))))
My issue is I have 30+ sheets to add to this, so I came up with this function but am getting a #VALUE! error and am not sure how to make it work or if it is possible-

Is there a way to make this work? Or will I have to expand my second function? Any help would be appreciated, I am new and will take any advice!

I'm going to meet with the client tomorrow to discuss the specifics and his MVP. This is a 4 person project, and I'm at the head of it. Any tips?
Here are a few things I'm clear about:
- Consult with my team about their productive work hours each day, understand in what area they shine the most so I can better assign them tasks, trusting they will complete them in the best way they can possible do it.
- Understand what the client wants from a practical and technical point-of-view, gathering information on his MVP and in correlation with our available time to make the project, I will create a scope of the project detailing what each week will contain.
- Prepare bi-weekly meetings so I can show him the progress my team has made, get his input on functionalities and any thing he might want to tweak, letting him know any add-ons are strictly "nice to haves"
- Team-wise, use the daily question scrum uses. I hate micro-managing, and they are all grown people, so they have my trust they can keep their word, until they lose said trust.
- Everyone will have a specific functionality they will only work on themselves. I've had trouble in other projects where I was assigned a certain task, and for me to finish that task, it demanded another team member to have finished theirs, and that wasn't always the case, so I was held back.
- Create an excel sheet with all tasks , so I can later discuss with my team which tasks they feel more comfortable taking on, or if someone wants me to assign their tasks, consult with them if said assigned tasks are OK.
- Try documenting as best as we can our work.
- After every meeting, I will send an e-mail detailing what was done, what was talked about, and what our team compromises with for the next meeting, sending an invite for the next meeting beforehand.

I've been working on a ruler to go with my Leuchtturm1917 (size A5). Something to use as a reference to split the page into equally sized boxes. I've seen a few excellent ones online, but they're either a) content rich, or b) easy to read, never both. For example the
Moxidori is data rich and affordable, but I think it could be easier to use.
Teanbujo's ruler is extremely easy to read, and beautiful, but I think it could use more reference lines. I saw another user's ruler that had a bunch of colored lines just floating in space with no text labels. It was data rich, but half the users in the thread couldn't make heads or tails of it. I can't find the link, but it was an excellent idea. Oh, and while writing this up, I learned the new Leuchtturm Bujo 2 has reference rulers
built into the covers. Welp. I might be wasting my time.
Getting to the point,
here's my attempt. Each color is dedicated to a certain number of boxes spread across the whole sheet. The green objects shows where to note your lines in order to splits the sheet into 6 equally spaced rows. The other side of the ruler is for the
horizontalalignment.

here. It's sized 8.5x11 (don't scale your printout, print at 100%). Apologies to anyone more familiar with measurements for a modern era, my country has hitched its wagon to America and all of its freedom units(tm). Luckily, this printout will safely crop for printing at A4. Cut out the ruler shapes as one big square, then fold it in half.
This thing is pretty early in design, but I could use some critique, or just opinions.

2024.05.21 20:20 Iarefunny Definitive Norsca: Throgg The Troll King Guide (V5.0.3)(L/VH)
Everybody wants Norsca to be relevant and good again. With Epidemus, Tamurkhan, Malakai, Kislev, Thrott the Unclean, Malus Darkblade surrounding you, and the WoC update, a lot of people have complained that the Norsca roster feels slim, bare-bones, and their campaign can feel lackluster. That being said, Norsca has an amazing economy (arguably the best), a solid dependable defensive base in Norsca, the capability for rapid expansion, and strong lords so it definitely DOES have a lot going for it, and Throgg himself can lead an extremely frenzied (or rapid) campaign.
TL;DR of How Throgg and Norsca Work - Norscan leaders can automatically confederate other Norscan factions by defeating the faction leader. This leads to Throgg having a 4 settlement start by the end of turn 1.
- With the blue line skill tree, you can get 9% improved casualty replenishment, another 9% with a Fimir Balefiend. That's a TON of casualty replenishment, especially when you consider the fact that with Mammoths, Ice Trolls, and Skin Wolves, your units rarely if ever drop to a low amount of models.
- Throgg gives Trolls & Ice Tolls a physical resistance of 15% and a reduced upkeep of 20%, which makes the unit absolutely fantastic faction wide.
- Their tier 3 ports give 800 income, 15% casualty replenishment and +30 growth. Enough said.
- Loads of buffs for sacking, and rewards you for razing settlements to the ground. When you raze a settlement, you can dedicate it to 4 gods. Benefits ranging from improved income from ports, improved casualty replenishment, reduced upkeep for your armies, and unique lords.
- A monster hunting mechanic that gives items, cash, and of course, unique RoR monsters to join your armies. Surprisingly, this actually isn't really that impactful. The RoR are amazing, especially the Hellcannon, but they're minor compared to everything else.
Pros & Cons: Will try to only give pros and cons relevant to Throgg's faction rather than the Norsca.
Pros:
- Very fresh campaign because wherever you look, you have enemies. In less than 40 turns, it's almost guaranteed you will fight Dwarves, WoC, Nurgle, Kislevians, Dark Elvens, Empire, Norscans, Skavens and a plethora of LLs.
- You can get Throggs end game doomstack online very fast. The doomstack stays relevant the entire game. Throgg is fun AF to use, and Ice Trolls & Skin Wolves reliably destroy most armies. I wish I could have 5 Throggs, I'd literally paint the entire map in maybe 100 turns.
- Very flexible gameplay that rewards you in every way for being aggressive and moving forward.
- Throgg gives his personal armies Trolls +8 MD, +12 Leadership (!!), another -10% upkeep, 20% missile resistance, Frenzy (which is massive on these guys), and most importantly, HORRIBLE REGENERATION which means they can REVIVE DEAD MODELS (ABSOLUTELY WILD). These buffs also apply to Skin Wolves and Femirs. With the red tree, you can give them another +6 MA and 12% WS. With techs, +10% charge bonus, and another +10% WS. **THEY ARE INSANE AND HIT LIKE A WRECKING BALL. To make it even better, Throgg has the ability to give Ice Trolls a global recruitment turn of 1, which greatly improves your ability to navigate in enemy lands.
- Norscans encamp stance is a raiding encamp stance providing 10 MD, 10 LD, raids, makes them immune to attrition, and decreases the upkeep of that army by 20%. Huge, huge plus.
- When you confederate Wulfrik, he's still the same insane duelist. With his abilities, you can reliably snipe 99% of the LLs with little to no effort. I struggle to see an enemy AI that can take him on except maybe Malus Darkblade and even then, you'd need a large XP gap. Mammoth Wulfrik? No shot. He can drop most generic LLs MD to 0 and stop them from moving.
- You can achieve the win condition by as little as 30 turns. Damn.
- Easily the best end turn sound effect. Click end turn, inhale, and yell NOOORSCAA.
Cons:
- The roster is slim, and as a result, it can become very stale. In fact, I would boil down the roster to two LLs, heroes, ice trolls, chaos trolls, mammoths (sick af tho), and skin wolves. You could maybe play fimirs but you have better trolls so why? That's really not that many units when you consider factions like WoC, Lizardmen, High Elves, Skaven, etc. This is a WH1 faction, they should have so many more units (I get that it may not have as much content from the table top).
- You have defendable inner provinces but you're surrounded by enemies. You literally can't be everywhere at once. Although, when you conquer the Northern chaos wastes, you have your back to the edge of the map.
- Norsca is too long. It can take upwards of 8 turns to go from 1 end to the other, and there's mountains separating them as well, so you could chase Wulfrik down the middle only for him to be on the other end and all of a sudden you're listening to this.
- Outside of your own personal goals, the campaign offers little to no goals after you beat the initial goal. You got the only other LL within 30 turns. You crushed Kislev. The Empire is a grind. You got your tier 5 settlements and units within 30 turns. It can be stale. I personally enjoyed the campaign late in because I like painting the map and watching Throgg eat up different LLs but there were moments where it was weak.
Early Game: You do have a bit of a tough initial battle, but you got it for sure. Let your province allow you to recruit 1 more, recruit and move. Ignore Norsca after you get your initial province, go down, take Malakai out ASAP (very achievable, rush his artillery). get Lair of the Trolls, go down and you'll find Kostatlyn and Azazel fighting, with Kostatlyn wounded. In fact, if you offer to join his war against Azazel, he'll most likely agree to be your vassal (happened in 3 out of 3 playthroughs). Don't let him be your vassal, he won't join wars against Katarin and its in your victory condition to crush him. With this, you have Katarin to crush and you can recruit another lord in Norsca to lead your war to confederate the others.
Build infrastructure buildings ASAP. Minor settlements will have growth building + minor military chains + either the income building (only 150g, so not really worth it), or the building that gives you a wizard hero.
If you decide to raise another army, it could be worth it to wait till Throgg minimizes the global recruit time for trolls. You can save loads of turns and cash because you recruit 3 Ice Trolls per turn. Replace Throggs army with Ice Trolls ASAP though, and make sure that its recruited on the east side of your province because thats significantly faster to reach Throgg with than raising at the capital.
Mid Game: A decision here: Do you continue conquering past Kislev into the Empire and eventually running into the Chaos dwarves? Or do you conquer the entirety of Norsca and go north? It's up to you. You've probably already accomplished your early victory conditions, so it's entirely up to you.
The ideal composition for non-Throgg armies now are LL, 2 Skinwolf Werekin, 1 Fimir Balefiend, and 1 Sorcerer-Shaman, 6 Skin Wolves, Ice Trolls, and maybe 3-4 ranged units (I add them for flavor but you could just have more Ice Trolls or whatever you want here).
Malus Darkblade will be a PROBLEM. Loads of ranged weapons, artillery, and Malus is a tough, tough guy to beat. Sigvald might also have the legendary heroes with him + upwards of 5-6 armies between him and his vassal who attack you from all sides. Sigvald and Malus will 100% get some of your settlements. You can't be everywhere all at once.
Late Game: Mammoth doomstacks. Raze settlements. Occupy and paint the map. Do whatever you want. You were done with your objectives in the early game, it's entirely up to you what you want to do now. You've also experienced most of the roster, so it's literally just long term objectives for you.
I would actually not advise that you play into the late game, because I am almost certain you will find the campaign stale as hell and the god rewards aren't worth grinding out for, especially now that we have Tzeentch and Nurgle factions.
Trees In this order for Throgg:
- Blue Tree: I recommend 3 points in despoilers, 1 in Norscan Resilience (You're never there long enough to benefit from the growth and recruitment cost doesnt matter). Lightning strike, unnatural healing, and then you can skip spawn of chaos but you're already there so you might as well.
Into
- Red Tree: You definitely want to optimize for trolls, and then for monsters of the north. On Throgg though, you can skip going for monsters of the north, and immediately go into Throggs line now.
- Throggs Line: You can skip Dread Retainers (its good but not necessarily priority). Primordial might is great for WS as well, makes it worth getting.
- Yellow Tree: The rest is up to you. It's all good here, I take hard to hit and deadly blade, wound maker, and indomitable/scarred veteran (both good, especially since Throggs regen helps him last vs LLs that cause terror).
Research Tree - Beeline to Corpulent Sails (campaign movement range is insane).
- Monster Hunter into Ice Blooded Strength (boost your trolls even more).
- The rest is completely up to you, I skip the marauder lines though (so basically just ignore top left of the research map).
Stand Out Units, lords, heros - Trolls: You should know this by now. Beasts, crazy stats, crazy regen, cheaper, physical resistance, easy to globally recruit.
- War Mammoths: One of the coolest units in the game, a doomstack of these has a hard time losing.
- Skinwolves: I actually got really good use out of these units in the campaign. Anti-large is becoming more and more useful, the regen is excellent, they're speedy as hell, I was surprised by how much I loved this unit. They definitely fall off as the game goes on though.
- Chaos Frost Dragon: You will recruit these because they're dragon. They're pretty good. You'll enjoy.
- Throgg & Wulfrik are really, really fun. Wulfrik more so than Throgg. He has a ton of bound abilities.
Overall Rating & Review If you're an old head who's played a ton of Norsca, it be very enjoyable to play Norsca with the new LLs that surround you. If you're new and own WH1, Norsca is a fun faction that you need no DLC for to have everything. There's no time wasted in this campaign, no down time, it ramps up as fast as it burns out.
Definitely a fun change of pace, a straightforward campaign, it's not where we would probably want Norsca as a faction and they would benefit a ton from just a few more units and some end game goals. That being said, I don't think it deserves the amount of hate I see it getting. It's enjoyable.
Final rating:
8/10+ if you're a Norsca fan.
7/10 if you're neutral.
5/10 if you're a difficulty nut.

The revenge I took on my grade nine English teacher was so petty that I hesitate to write about it. But Mrs. Bristle (for that is the name I will give her) was cruel to me every chance she got, and she made my first year in high school a misery. So when a file with her name on it arrived at my office, my first thought was not that I would beat her (for I was certain that I would) but rather, of the revenge I would take along the way.
I was pushing forty when Mrs. Bristle’s file hit my desk, some estate litigation where a mother’s last will and testament left my clients next to nothing, and gave their sister, Mrs. Bristle, pretty well the entire estate. When I saw the defendant’s name it looked familiar, and after a bit of Googling, I confirmed what I suspected: the defendant, Mrs. Bristle, was my former grade nine English teacher.
I remembered Mrs. Bristle very well. She was supposed to be teaching us the wonders of English literature, but what she really taught us were her rules, by which she meant her arbitrary whims, expressed in vague language, backed up by petty punishments for non-compliance. There was an art to getting along with Mrs. Bristle, and while most of the other kids learned it easily enough, somehow I did not. I have trouble learning unwritten rules, and in Mrs. Bristle’s class where unwritten and constantly changing rules were the order of the day, I didn’t stand a chance. Mrs. Bristle admonished me almost daily for ‘not paying attention’. I did detentions, re-wrote assignments, and made visits to the principal’s office, all because I apparently wasn’t listening, wasn’t doing what I was told.
Many was the time when Mrs. Bristle took me to task for missing some obvious but unstated part of an assignment. One time I handed in a sonnet, and received an “F” because the rhyming pattern was Petrarchan, not Shakespearean. But she would be nice to me, Mrs. Bristle would always say when she tossed my work back at me. She would give me another chance to hand the assignment in with the arbitrary changes she required, in the end giving me a good mark, but then heavily downgraded for being late.
Mrs. Bristle's case worked its way through the early stages, and every time I exchanged an email with her (for she was a self-rep, no need for counsel, she claimed) I thought about the unpleasant time I’d spent in her class. I had a rough time in high school, and I always resent anything that makes me dwell on it.
After a few months, the case was ready for the next stage. It was time to examine Mrs. Bristle, to find out why she thought her mother wanted to disinherit most of the family and enrich Mrs. Bristle alone. I showed up at the court reporter’s office early as usual, to get set up.
“What’s that shit eating grin on your face?” Adam asked. He was a lawyer colleague, about my vintage, and we were sitting in the lounge for lawyers only, the room that most court reporter’s offices have, a place for the lawyers to hang out and shoot the shit, no clients allowed.
“I’m going to examine my grade nine English teacher today,” I said, “and it's going to be fun.” I explained how she’d hated me back in the day, and had done her best to make my life hell.
“What’s the case about?” Adam said. Adam had been around the block, same as me, and it took only a few words for me to summarize everything that mattered in the file. “Estate fight, one sibling against four, undue influence, holograph will cutting out most of the siblings, competing with an older will, a formal one, where the shares are equal.”
Adam nodded appreciatively. “Nice fees, if the estate’s got the cash.”
“It does,” I said. We chatted for a bit, and then sat there in silence as we each did the last bit of prep for the cases we had that day, making notes, reading documents and drinking coffee. My alarm dinged just before ten, and I made my way to the examination room, and Mrs. Bristle, the teacher who’d greatly disliked the grade nine version of Calledinthe90s. I was curious to see if she would like the older version any better.

The examination started, and Mrs. Bristle and I sparred for a while, me tossing vague questions her way, and criticizing her when she did not understand. I kept her on the defensive for close to three hours, until it was getting on to one p.m.
“Aren’t you in a conflict or something?” she said to me just before the lunch break, when she’d finally made the connection, and understood that the lawyer asking her questions was a former student.
“No conflict,” I said, dismissing her concerns with a wave of my hand. “During the lunch break, there’s something I need you to do.”
“I don’t want to answer questions during lunch. I need a break.” The examination had been rough on Mrs. Bristle. She was not used to being asked questions, to being held to account, to being constantly challenged, and even having her grammar corrected now and again.
“You’ll get your lunch break. But while you’re eating a sandwich or whatever, keep this copy of the holograph will next to you.” The will on which Mrs. Bristle’s case relied was a holograph will, meaning that Mrs. Bristle’s mother had written the will entirely in hand from start to finish. The mother, or more likely, Mrs. Bristle herself, had downloaded a holograph will form from the web, and had completed it in accordance with the website’s instructions. Holograph wills are special. You can do a holograph will without a witness, without a lawyer, without anything at all, so long as you did it right. But if you got anything wrong, if you messed up in any way, it was invalid.
“You want me to read the will again over lunch?” Mrs. Bristle said.
“No. Instead, I want you to make a handwritten copy of it.”
“You want me to write it out? Whatever for?”
“There’s an allegation that the will wasn’t written by your mother, and that you wrote it up instead.” An allegation that I’d made up myself, that morning, while I was sitting in the lawyer's lounge, drinking coffee and munching on a muffin. My clients had not challenged the will’s handwriting; it was obviously their mother’s, totally different from Mrs. Bristle’s own writing. But I had decided otherwise.
Mrs. Bristle was appropriately outraged at being unjustly accused of forgery. Said she could prove it wasn’t her handwriting, could absolutely prove it.
“Then let’s settle the forgery issue once and for all,” I said, “write out the will in your own hand, so that our document experts can examine it, compare it with the original, and make a determination.”
“I don’t need the entire lunch break for that,” Mrs. Bristle said, “and I’d rather eat lunch at the restaurant downstairs.” The will was barely a page long, at most three hundred words, that being all it took for the mother to allegedly disinherit most of her children, and inexplicably leave everything to Mrs. Bristle. The mother had written up the will herself, but she’d been ninety at the time, while living in Mrs. Bristle’s house, and very much under her influence.
“I’ve retained five different experts,” I said, “and each of them will need copies.”
“
Five experts? Why so many experts?”
“Each expert needs ten samples, for comparison purposes. It’s going to take you a while, Mrs. Bristle. I suggest you get started.” I overrode her protests and once she started to write, I left her in the room, and went to the lawyer’s lounge to eat their small sandwiches and drink more of the excellent coffee. After a while I stopped by the examination room to look in on Mrs. Bristle. I wanted to check in on her progress.
Mrs. Bristle asked for more time, complained of writer’s cramp, and asked me again if it was really necessary for her to write out the holograph will fifty times in her own hand, and I assured her that there was nothing for it, that it was absolutely necessary. I returned to the lounge to check my emails, leaving her hard at the homework I’d given her.
After a while my colleague, Adam, popped into the lounge. He asked me how it was going, the examination with the teacher, the teacher who had treated me so badly.
“I’m making her write lines.” Adam laughed, and laughed harder when I explained that I wasn’t kidding, that I really was making Mrs. Bristle write lines, and how I was doing it. His laughter attracted attention, and a few other lawyers asked what was up. “He’s making his teacher witness
write lines,” Adam said, and the lawyer’s lounge hooted with laughter when I told everyone what was up.
It was one of the pettiest things I’ve ever done to anyone, making my grade nine teacher write lines. But the writing lines thing was just a warmup. The real revenge had yet to come. I returned to the examination room after a while, to check up on Mrs. Bristle, see how she was doing.
“This is taking
forever,” she said, “and I really don’t get why you need it.” She had writer’s cramp, and was shaking her hand to get the kinks out. I picked up the stack of holograph wills she’d created, and flipped through it. She was nowhere near finished.
“On second thought,” I said, “maybe it isn’t necessary. I think you’re right. I don’t need any handwriting samples from you.”
“Why not?” she said.
“The will is invalid,” I explained, adding that because her mother had used a pre-printed form off the web, the law would not recognize the will. “A holograph will has to be entirely in the testator's handwriting,” I explained, “
every single word entirely in handwriting from start to finish. Using a throwaway account since I don't want to give the batch and college away!
Reddit keeps recommending this sub to me, and I am filled with nostalgia seeing many of the posts - seems like a few days back when I got into an IIM 10+ years back after the gruelling mockups, exams, GD and PI. Reading some of these posts is sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes wants me to put down some unsolicited free wisdom, so here goes :
- Life is not over if you don't get into an elite IIM. One of my batchmates was so obsessed with one of the IIMs that they decided to give CAT again, and then shifted to one of ABC. Got into an amazing consulting gig, travelled the world, and few years down the line, was diagnosed for depression and is now recuperating. Another grad college friend, who always wanted to get into IIM or XLRI, but never could crack CAT or XAT ended up in the same IT firm that he got through post grad school and is now having the time of his life living in a Scandinavian country with his family and kids, and already bought a house there. So - IIM is not the end of it all!
- It can be a rat race even after you enter the college. You are in a room with similar folks, and you have to fight it out for placements, cracking academics, extra curricular and what not. Are you one of those who excels in pressure and competition? Then go for it! Are you one of those that doesn't like stress - then nothing dire will happen if you stay out of the rat race (even after getting into college) and take a chill pill and see what works for you - it could be enjoying the company of like minded folks, it could be the actual MBA academics which interests you and puts you in a path to a doctorate(which, actually, very few MBAs care about!), or it could even be a completely non-MBA related passion like movie making which you decide to pursue after the MBA. Bottom line - You do you!
- Be prepared for life to give you surprises even after the MBA. Coming back to my batch, two folks died during Covid leaving behind young kids, one guy lost his wife, and another had a stroke due to work stress. Sometimes, the top percentiles and all those high salaries can be meaningless if life decides to give you a whack on your head.
- I saw some posts saying 18 lpa, 20 lpa as averages are not good salaries. Firstly, it is a lot, considering the current macroeconomic situation and economy. Secondly, if they say 18 lpa, it is never 18 lpa, it could be 12 fixed + 2 bonus + 4 one-time cash/stock options - be ready for that reality. Having said that, even this salary shouldn't be taken for granted in the current situation - I'm part of many IIM groups where internships and even final placements are getting difficult and help from alumni is sought continuously for placements (many of these never make the news), forget about average salary. So, when you read even 'audited' placement reports, take it with a pinch of salt.
- The world is changing much more rapidly than ever before - in my organisation which is a global software behemoth, roles are getting redundant due to investments in AI and folks who have been in the system without up-skilling are being let go. So when you do the MBA or even if you don't, focus on these evolving trends and develop your skills in these areas - they will help in the long run.
- And lastly, life doesn't end even if you don't do an MBA - can't stress this enough!

The database system my company works with has started to save certain dates as excel date codes. I made the horrible mistake of buying a chrome book a few years ago. Now every time the system stores a date this way, I can’t decipher the language of the machine because the only spreadsheet I have access to, when I’m not working at home (which is often), is google sheets.
I want to stop bugging our employees because of a quirk in our system until it gets fixed.
For example I have this code: 46308 I know it’s a date. But how do I get the answer.
Am I just hopelessly ignorant of a way to decipher these codes in Google sheets? Or does someone have a tool where I can just type in the code and get the date in human language?
Any help would be magical!
TLDR: Need a simple tool to decipher excel date codes. Either in Google sheets, online, or compatible with a Chromebook.
