As the title says, I’ve reached out to several schools who said they are still accepting applications (some the deadlines have passed, some they have no) but from what I’m reading on here even February and March applications are considered late. Will I be seriously considered? Do I need to blow the median out of the water to be considered at these schools? Or is there usually space since most of the schools I’m applying to aren’t ranked very high.
Right now I’m applying to CUA’s part time day program and it’s the one I’m most interested in. My grad work was all on CUA campus, I like it there, love the library, I live nearby, and the fact that I can do part time during the day is what sold me. I’m also planning to apply for online programs at Dayton, case western, southwestern, northern Ohio, maybe CSU. I’ll probably apply for GULC’s evening program but i can’t imagine I’d be considered this late without anything amazing. I was going to send my application over before LSATs because evening program is test optional. The evening schedule would honestly be difficult since I have young kids but if I did get in might be worth trying to workout a new child care schedule with my ex to make things work.
I was planning on starting fall 2025, and the VA is footing the entire bill. I was just accepted into this program in (applied once in the fall, denied, then re-applied and accepted) and now that I’m in, I have to start within a year. If I don’t, I have to re-apply and risk not being accepted for the program / funding.
So I’m going to try and go to law school. If not they’ll pay for another degree- but law is really what I’m interested in.
3.7gpa undergrad majored in history and psych (this was over a decade ago) president of psychology honor society and ROTC scholarship. (This far out from graduation seems silly to also list things like fraternity, mission trips, volunteer work, etc when I have so much more recent life experience - but should those things be include?
3.8 gpa MTS degree (theology) 1.5 years PhD work in theology. Never started dissertation. Reading comprehension in Latin, Attic Greek, Spanish, Italian.
7 years total teaching experience (social studies, Latin, and theology), 5.5 years high school.
Certified strength coach, also ran my own training business on the side during Covid and after for a bit. Not sure if that helps on the resume but won’t look bad.
Should have one strong academic letter from PhD program which was over 5 years ago - he is going to write one this weekend - and already have a strong letter form my principal (which I wrote for him and he edited a bit). Waiting to hear back from a second professor but last class I took with him was fall 2018 and they just started their summer vacation I might not hear back from him in time).
Signed up for LSAT in June. I had to convince LSAC just to let me register late (successful in that at least). My verbal GRE after undergrad was 164 (score no longer valid), and that was before learning Greek and Latin. My reading comprehension has always been very strong. I’m good at looking for flaws in logic in arguments since had to do that enough in grad school (besides theology I studied both the ancient and modern philosophers). The logic games I just started learning today - I can do them slowly but think I’ll be able to get them down quick by using the strategies from 7sage.
I’m gonna write my personal statement this weekend, ordered transcripts yesterday so I should have everything besides LSAT scores ready when transcripts come in which is hopefully by June 1.
I see a lot of people talk about “softs.” I think mine are good. How I do on the lsat I’m sure will be a big determining factor. Going to do a diagnostic tomorrow.
I’m only looking at part time programs right now because I have a full minivan’s amount of young kids who need their dad in their life as much as possible because of some unfortunate life circumstances.

I have two students who scored perfect on their PMs. I teach history, not reading (but reading standards are in our history curriculum)
These students are Bff's and in my class together. They get very ... What's the word...oh, disrespectful when I redirect them, and were eventually separated from each other from their group bc disruptive. Put into another group, but being 6th graders, acted out. So, off to individual work they go. Trust me, I was in contact with parents and students for a while. Didn't change, so their individual desks and no group work stuck (they were given MULTIPLE opportunities to earn their way back into group work and refused)
I think they decided that since they didn't like me and how strict I was, that they would "make me pay."
From the onset of this semester.
Both failed 3rd quarter. Both failed 4th quarter.
Had conversations about expectations and that they weren't hurting me, they were hurting themselves.
Both turned in almost nothing and failed quizzes/tests either by not taking them (they're online during class time) or just flat out failing then bc they checked out.
Both of them scored a C on their semester exam.
Some teachers I know would sub that grade in for their actual grade in the class. I talked to a couple of people and decided to let their F stand. Meaning summer school.
My mentor talked me through it, played devil's advocate, and made me see both sides.
I am choosing to give the students the grade they earned. F 3rd quarter, F 4th quarter. Even a perfect semester exam wouldn't give them a passing grade.
So they're both going to summer school.
I had an admin speak with both of them about my decision. Admin made it clear that this was the grade they earned, and next year it's gonna be tougher.
Props to admin for having my back, but I'm curious. What's your take?
They learned the content to pass, but never turned in work.
For me, that doesn't fly in the real world, and isn't that part of our job? Actions have consequences?

I’m a first year teacher and was promised a lot of support from my school when I was hired. I was given a mentor and a mentor over all beginning teachers to help guide me. I was also placed in a grade with 3 other veteran teachers. I got high marks on my student teaching evaluations as well as glowing recommendation letters from my grade level teachers during student teaching. I also received a Highly Qualified score on my state licensure based on my testing scores.
I was given a classroom full of students who Failed their EOGs from the year before and there are 15% IEP/504 with pull outs during intervention and class time as well as inclusion.
I have had 1 training with the beginning teacher mentor the whole year. My first evaluation with admin I was developing in most categories and was told that I just needed to get proficient and they had no concerns about me getting there. I worked closely with my grade level team to nail down best practices and ensure I was doing the right things in my classroom for my students. I worked closely with SPED all year and ended up co-teaching with them while they were doing inclusion. I saw my dedicated mentor barely once a month, and only when she remembered me.
My second observation with the beginning teacher mentor went good I thought but I was still considered Developing in most categories. When I asked for feedback she suggested about 3 different online programs to put my kids on and said not to keep them on one task more than 15 minutes. So I modified my instruction to do that.
My third and fourth observations were nearly back to back and right after Christmas break. I did what I thought were decent lessons, following directions from everyone I had talked to. I didn’t get a consultation with admin after my third observation before they gave me my fourth, so I had no time to modify anything before they evaluated again. At my meeting for the third observation I was fussed at because I didn’t stop my instruction to teach one-on-one and at the same time had a kid acting out with known behaviors. When I met for my fourth observation, I was told I may not get a renewal for next year.
I also never got observed by my assigned mentor, and she’s the one they wanted me to rely on for help.
I was taken aback and frustrated. I brought up the lack of specifics for what to fix and admin talked around it without going into details of what they were looking for. They told me they’d do another observation and it would determine my placement for next year. This final observation was supposed to be on a Monday or Wednesday since testing would occur later.
No observation came until the day before testing when we were on a modified schedule due to testing in other grade levels. The observation was my kids working independently on review the day before EOGs!!! Every other classroom in the building looked like mine or worse. And still they marked me as Developing on that observation. They knew that day would be like that and still observed.
My summative was posted yesterday and nearly every section is developing. I have a meeting tomorrow to discuss it and I know what they are going to say. I just can’t wrap my head around how they haven’t given me support to improve, how I was given students so far behind and expected to work miracles, and what it is they aren’t getting. I’m literally doing everything I have been taught and everything I can to teach exactly how I’m supposed to. My students have also shown significant growth over the year with nearly all of them now at grade level instead of behind.
I’ve already started looking for other jobs so I’m prepared, but was hoping some veteran teachers might have insight. Or maybe other new teachers have experienced this?

pro-West party leader says they met PM Pashinyan and discussed a referendum to solidify Armenia's shift to EU

KHZMALYAN (European Party of Armenia): The referendum is our suggestion and demand. We presented it to Pashinyan and expect a response within a reasonable timeframe. We advised making a public statement soon. A referendum would also make Pashinyan's job easier by allowing the people's will to decide Armenia's direction.
REPORTER: How did Pashinyan respond?
KHZMALYAN: He suggested the meeting be held in a closed format so I can't reveal all details. We hope that our voice, our offer, our demand, was heard. If we do not receive a positive response, we will take measures by employing the same methods currently used by anti-European forces [the ongoing protests led by pro-Russian ex-regime]. We will take to the streets and demand a referendum for Eurointegration if necessary.
REPORTER: How long are you ready to wait before taking action?
KHZMALYAN: A few months. Georgia will hold parliamentary elections in October, and Moldova will hold a similar Eurointegration referendum - also in October. The U.S. will hold presidential elections in November which will be important for Armenia's future. Even if the worst scenario unfolds in all three countries, Armenia must stand firm and not take a step back. Armenia could become the leader in democracy in all of Eastern Europe if you consider the situation in Georgia, Hungary, and Slovakia [pro-Russia populist leader]. Armenia could receive an unprecedented level of assistance from Europe under those circumstances.
REPORTER: Did Pashinyan say he plans to leave CSTO?
KHZMALYAN: We did not demand specific dates but we urged him to complete all these processes this year, preferably by November.
REPORTER: Did Pashinyan agree?
KHZMALYAN: The participants of the meeting are under the impression that we were able to present convincing arguments but time will show what actions he takes. The government functions very poorly but nevertheless, they are doing something, they are taking steps.
REPORTER: On May 9, Bagrat Galstanyan gave Pashinyan 1 hour to resign but it's May 21 and he is still here. Why wasn't the opposition able to remove him?
KHZMALYAN: The 3 former presidents and their surrogate forces, backed by 30 years of power, were unable to bring forward a figurehead, a single ideology, that could win the hearts of the people. They used various political technologies, they switched between black and white robes, and they extended the 1 hour to 7 days, but none of that helped because the Armenian people hate them more than they hate Nikol Pashinyan.
REPORTER: You used to be a lot harsher on Pashinyan but something appears to have changed in your tone after your recent meeting with him. What is the reason?
KHZMALYAN: We were able to present our demands and the timelines to accomplish them. Unlike the archbishop and the former regimes surrounding him, we did not give "one hour" for Pashinyan to accept our demands; we did not make ultimatums. We believe the current government is carrying out and will carry out the will of the people to overcome the status of a Russian colony and join the ranks of free nations. We did and do see steps [taken by the government] towards this; we cannot ignore this. We saw the Strassbourg, but also Moscow. We saw the [April 5 meeting in] Brussels, but also [the recent meeting between FMs in] Almaty. We are told this is an attempt to "balance" and we understand where they are coming from, but our factions speak on behalf of over 60% of Armenians who view Russia's policies as deadly for Armenia. We expect concrete actions and we have formed a platform to continue this work; there will be petitions and other actions from us. We are ready to assist Pashinyan, who may be constrained due to ongoing negotiations, by being the public voice and saying the things he cannot say. We will continue to work, to pressure, to influence, to demand. Our meetings also continue abroad. We will press on until we reach our goal - the Eurointegration of Armenia. //

Q&A with ruling party MP Vahagn Alexanyan about the ongoing protests led by pro-Russian opposition

REPORTER: You continue to criticize the "holy movement"...
ALEXANYAN: The what now?
REPORTER: ... the "holy movement", by calling it a "pagan" movement. What is the ruling party's stance and do you discuss this internally?
ALEXANYAN: Of course we do, although I don't think Kocharyan's decision to name this movement "holy" is helping them. It's comical.
REPORTER: Do you have proof that Bagrat srbazan is [tied with Kocharyan]?
ALEXANYAN: Bagrat Galstanyan is surrounded by the entire political team of Robert Koharyan, he was a member of Kocharyan's 2022 protests and gave similar speeches he gives today, he received a praise from Russian propagandists, and he was named by a Russian propagandist Aram Gabrielyanov as a potential candidate for a new protest movement just a few months prior to these events, so it's beyond reasonable doubt that Bagrat Galstanyan is part of Kocharyan's team.
REPORTER: You were earlier accusing Galstanyan of being a Russian agent, and now Kocharyan's agent?
ALEXANYAN: Same thing.
REPORTER: The opposition gathered many thousands of supporters on May 9. What does the size of the crowd indicate?
ALEXANYAN: It was similar to Kocharyan's final rally before the 2021 elections. And?
REPORTER: The opposition created a video of "Pashinyan's lies" and broken promises. Will you respond?
ALEXANYAN: The clip itself is a lie and manipulation. For example, one of the supposed lies was Pashinyan's promise of an amnesty for overdue fines and penalties. You are a journalist, you tell me, was there an amnesty or not?
REPORTER: Pashinyan had also said that POWs could wait "just a few more months" and that he wouldn't "sacrifice Armenia's sovereignty" in exchange for bringing them back sooner. Why aren't they back?
ALEXANYAN: Dozens of POWs returned home in December, and efforts continue to bring back the rest. Literally 1-2 days before the POWs' return, the opposition claimed that the POWs were "forgotten" by the government. "Ոչ մի բան չեք անում:"
REPORTER: What about the Nagorno-Karabakh leadership?
ALEXANYAN: There are efforts to return them as well.
REPORTER: Why did the police form a wall to block entry to village Kirants [for nonresidents]?
ALEXANYAN: I think the NSS said they had to take action to prevent interference with the border work. From what I can tell, the protest leader himself went there yesterday and returned only 15 minutes later so there wasn't a big desire to stay there apparently.
REPORTER: They plan to hold a big rally on May 26 where they might nominate Bagrat srbazan as the PM's candidate to replace Pashinyan.
ALEXANYAN: Why not go straight for [alleged narco baron] Mihran Poghosyan [who publicly praised the protests]?
REPORTER: There appears to be a consensus around Bagrat srbazan after a meeting between several forces.
ALEXANYAN: Consensus minus one, where "minus one" is the people. Or to be more precise, "minus two", because the Constitution also prohibits Bagrat from serving as a prime minister. Congratulations on an initiative that's dead on arrival. It's absurd. They suggested replacing the Constitution to allow a dual citizen to serve as PM. Okay... To get Canadian citizenship you have to take an oath to serve the best interests of Canada. To allow dual citizens to serve as PM in Armenia we have to accept for the PM to have loyalty towards another state. The alternative is for the candidate [Bagrat] to admit that his word [oath to Canada] wasn't worth a dime. Երևի մատերը խաչ արած ա երդվել։
REPORTER: But don't you think you are manipulating because Galstanyan received Canadian citizenship just to be able to serve in the church in Canada? He didn't go there to live or conduct business.
ALEXANYAN: It doesn't matter why he went to Canada. He is a citizen of Canada and took an oath. Even religious leaders with dual citizenship cannot become prime ministers. I don't have an issue with him being a dual citizen, but it limits his office options. He still hasn't renounced his Canadian citizenship even after all these talks about a possible nomination.
REPORTER: Galstanyan said he is ready to renounce it as soon as there is a need for it.
ALEXANYAN: In other words, he seeks "guarantees" that he will be the candidate in order to renounce it?

This was said as a response to the critics of the church leadership who accused the church of turning into a political party and suggested taxing the church like a business.
BAGRAT: We have 19th-century churches that were forcefully confiscated and turned into ruins. The properties of the Armenian church must be returned to the church. The area of Moscow Cinema belongs to the church, half of the Katoghike Church was demolished and belongs to the church, and part of the items in Matenadaran were taken away from the church. Instead of threatening us with taxes, they must think about how they plan to return our properties, fully renovated and ready for service.

Armenia's Constitutional Court has a vacant seat. Pro-Russian opposition criticizes Pashinyan's ruling party for favoring a "George Soros-linked" judge who worked for U.S. State Department.

A Serj-era judge is leaving the Constitutional Court after receiving a job offer elsewhere so one seat is vacant. It is the judiciary's turn to nominate a CC judge, so hundreds of judges recently held a meeting and voted for Judge Balayan as their candidate. Balayan's father was a CC judge during Kocharyan's tenure. He was accused in the Wikileaks report of having inappropriate deals with President Kocharyan. Pashinyan's ruling party did not vote to approve Balayan. This led to a second gathering of hundreds of judges where they voted to nominate Judge Khachaturyan as their candidate. The parliament summoned him for Q&A on Tuesday.

JUDICIARY REP: I presented parts of his professional activities available on the court's public platforms. You can ask the candidate directly.
OPPOSITION MP: The Soros Foundation publicly listed him as a member so I don't understand why it's being hidden now. In your opinion, how will his work at the Soros Foundation affect his impartiality?
JUDICIARY REP: The majority of judges chose him and it's up to Parliament whether to confirm or reject.
RULING MP: Was the voting held in a closed session or can you see how each judge voted?
JUDICIARY REP: It's a closed format. My duty here is to present the candidate. [basically, leave me alone I'm just doing my job]
RULING MP: Why not make the court voting and internal discussions more transparent for the public to see so we will have fewer conspiracy theories on why one judge was preferred over the other?

As for my simultaneous work with the U.S. Justice Department, there was no conflict with my membership or presidency at the Board because the latter was fully a public activity and we were only given a symbolic sum to compensate for our expenses; we are talking about less than $100/mo. I have always been told im great with kids. I love babies up to age 9. I've had several daycare/ long term substitute positions with high praise from coworkers and managers. I truly enjoyed working at each place. So I got my MA in education.Got a teaching job right away. Great team, annoying unhelpful admin. Big struggles. I foolishly asked my principal for help and I was literally judged and scrutinized for the remainder of the school and the next (23/24). I had small wins but not enough to save me from NR. My license is ECE to 2nd grade. I want out but im not good at the "great transferable skills" everyone sees in teachers. I hate data collection. My scheduling was a mess. Im not good at differentiation on the spot. I have so many children with undiagnosed high needs and challenges I was crying from stress every other week. 7 out of 15 of my students fully exhibit very physical & verbal Neurodiverse tendencies and I cannot support or set expectations that work for all of them. One thing triggers another student and the emotional outbursts are nonstop.They take 10 mins each and they usually happen 2-3 students at a time over "hes looking at me!" " Shes laughing at me" "I was first in line!" (They have a set line order with a posted and predictable line leader job)
What the hell can I do on the same pay scale if my skills are best for kids? im too old to nanny. I am applying for more teaching positions because I need to pay my bills but I am afraid of what my lack of skill will do to another class of kids who deserve a skilled teacher. I can support a few kids but not a whole class. I feel awful and hate that I can see my failures in real time.

I saw someone else did something like this recently and thought that I might have something to add to the discussion to help people figure out whether they think this program is right for them, or for people currently in the program to help them plan out classes.
My background is very heavy in statistics and finance (I'm an actuary), so my grounding in calculus, statistics, linear algebra, and business topics was considerably better than most of the other people I interacted with in this program. Conversely, I'm sure my programming skills were probably about average or maybe a little bit below compared to someone with a more targeted background towards those skills.
I started in Fall of 2020 and just finished up this month, Spring 2024. I started out just taking one class a semester and never changed up that plan, would highly recommend doing the same if you're working full time alongside; there's no reason to rush this program. I got a 4.0 GPA overall, although I never really stressed that much about it and definitely did not shy away from "harder" classes in order to bolster GPA. I did this to learn, not to get good grades. The classes I took, in order (my memory of some of the earlier ones might be a bit jumbled as so much time has passed):

1. CSE 6040 - I mentioned how my programming background was weaker relative to my mathematical background. However, reflecting on my experience in this class, it was probably still pretty strong. This class is focused on generalized programming skills, you don't really get into the analytics and modeling that much; it's more of a primer on things like functions, recursion, computer memory management, etc. It's been a few years, but I don't remember struggling with this class at all, and most of the concepts covered (object oriented programming, things like byte encoding, hexadecimal forms, recursion, etc.) were things I was already familiar with in another programming language (this class was in Python) or was relatively easy to pick up. From what I remember, the assignments were auto-graded and you had unlimited attempts, not to mention the fact that most of the prompts were to produce some predetermined result... and, as long as you were able to verify that your code produced that result, you got full points. I didn't miss a single point in this entire class. I believe there were "final exams" which were really just timed window coding assignments much like the homework, and you could do the assignments at any point during a 4-day window or something like that.
2. ISYE 6501 - This class was R-based and focused on basic analytics models. The material was much more applied than 6040. Similarly, the material was not difficult, and I was familiar with a lot of the basic models already (such as GLMs) from having worked with them in my job. The grading was done on a peer-grading framework; based on who anonymously is assigned your homework to grade, you can get someone who's a stickler for every point on the guide, or people who are a bit more lenient. I never really worried much about how things were graded in this class; yeah, I did miss some points arbitrarily, but nothing that made that much of a difference. If you generally put in the work and understand the material, your peers will recognize that. I found this a bit more interesting than 6040 because, rather than a deterministic "right answer", there was some more creativity implied here to solve each problem. There was a final project for this class where you walked through a hypothetical analytics problem and explained how you would go about solving it. I found this an interesting thought exercise and enjoyed this class. The pacing felt a little fast, as you basically had an assignment due each week, but the assignments were small. Like 6040 I found this class to be quite easy but I didn't 100% it due to the peer grading thing.
3. MGT 8803 - I almost applied to be exempt from this class, as my background intersects a lot with the material. The accounting and finance modules for this class literally did not teach me anything new. Supply chain was new for me and I found it interesting. I'm trying to remember what the other module was. I think it was marketing? I didn't like it. Overall I found this class quite easy for the aforementioned reasons, however I've heard from a lot of the other folks without business backgrounds that this class was pretty tough so take my opinions with a grain of salt. Taking this in the summer cut out one of the modules, normally there are 5 but in Summer there are 4. I figured this made sense to take during the truncated semester because I was unlikely to cover that much new material, and it turns out I was right about that. Each module lasted 2 weeks (I think in a normal semester it lasts 3) and has a timed multiple-choice test at the end. A lot of people didn't like this format compared to ISYE 6501 and CSE 6040; I'm not really sure how else this material could've been covered. This class was OK, the material is not really that deep but it's a pretty good primer on a large number of business topics.
4. ISYE 6740 - The first class I took that was actually pretty challenging, which makes sense considering the first 3 courses were just the basic core. This is pretty much an intro to machine learning as a discipline, and the first time I remember digging into academic papers that discuss some machine learning topic and attempting to recreate the results (this is something we did a lot in the more advanced classes going forward and incidentally now that I have graduated is probably one of the best ways to go about learning a new topic). I remember this class as having a format similar to ISYE 6501/CSE6040 in that you had large programming assignments to do, as well as open-book "exams" which were really just timed programming assignments. Assignments are not auto-graded; TA's review each one and thus the assignments have much more of a focus on explaining your findings than producing the exact expected output (unlike 6040). Some of the theory questions have you applying complicated matrix algebra rules that I'm not surprised a lot of people struggled with. The TA responsiveness in this class was pretty good from what I remember, but your mileage may vary. I remember getting 3 weeks to do each assignment but I also remember not thinking that was a lot of time, these assignments are very extensive, have many parts, and take a long time to get through. Like with 6040 I ended up not missing a single point in this class but I did find it difficult and spent significantly more time working on it than in prior classes, probably 10-15 hrs a week, give or take.
5. ISYE 6644 - I was familiar with maybe 50% of the material we covered due to my extensive statistics background, however I was not aware of the exact mechanics of random number generation or the concept of a batched mean, for example. I remember this class having several "check your understanding" quizzes that focused on the mathematical foundations. Didn't struggle with this much in terms of difficulty and found the material very useful. Setting up custom simulation environments is very useful and arena is pretty cool even if it's unlikely you'll ever use it. Some assignments feature similar tools in Python (simpy). There might have been some coverage of R in this as well, or at least the accommodation for people that wanted to use it. There was a project for this class, but you didn't have to come up with the topic on your own, you could pick from a list, and you could do your project on your own if you wanted (which, given the option, was always the choice I made, due to the inherent randomness in picking the right members of a group). However you can do a group project if you want.
6. MGT 6203 - The first of the classes I took that required a group project. I recommend you are proactive in putting together groups in situations like these, posting threads on Ed/whatever the forum is as soon as the class begins. My group was alright; not everyone in it was great, but we had enough going overall to make up for the weaker group members. The project has some arbitrary guidelines from what I remember - you need to put together a midterm report and video presentation that is no more than ~2 minutes long or something like that (if it's 2:01 you get penalized) and the final report is 5 minutes or less, and everyone in the group needs to speak. I honestly don't remember much else about this class, it was pretty forgettable, but not horrible. Not overall that difficult, another business class so a lot of topics I was already familiar with, but there was more new here than in 8803.
7. CSE 6242 - Another class with a group project. Again, I was proactive, and again, overall, my group was... okay. Some people who were really good, some who were... not. This class is characterized by a lot of assignments that are autograded, like 6040, but the assignments are a bit more difficult. Overall not that difficult with the exception of the D3 assignment, but that's more due to the fact that I'm not really sure how the autograder works for that; it tries to determine based on some internal structure of your html code whether or not you're fulfilling the requirements. I got a perfect score on all of the assignments, and they give you the chance to score over 100% on I believe either assignment 1 or assignment 2. A lot of people bombed the D3 assignment (I think it's assignment 2) but still did well in the class because it's not that hard to do well on everything else, so keep that in mind. This class does a great job of exposing you to a lot of new technologies, but there isn't that much depth to it. That's not really the point of this kind of class though, it equips you with the tools to explore things deeper if you so choose.
8. ISYE 8803 - I was a big fan of this class. It's taught in MATLAB but you can use Python if you so choose, you'll see in reviews of this class that you should really just use MATLAB since a lot of the sample code etc. is not in other languages, so that's what I did. However, they must've recently added Python and R code for sample solutions, so feel free to use what you want. MATLAB was interesting, there were parts of one assignment I also used R for (grouped lasso in R is a lot more straightforward). This class is all about high dimensional data and representing it in a more simplified and comprehensive way, think about something like sonar which might have datapoints separated by milliseconds and thus a very dense representation of a signal captured over a short period of time. After ISYE 6740, I found this to be the class that taught me the most up to this point.
9. CS 7642 - Taking this class in summer is kind of rough. There's 6 homework assignments that are autograded, similar format to CSE 6040. There are 3 projects which are much larger programming assignments for which you'll write papers explaining methodology, results, etc. These projects take a while, particularly project 3. I did well on projects 1 and 2 and decently on 3, although I spent the most time on 3 by far; it involves reinforcement learning to simulate a soccer environment and train agents how to play against an AI developed externally. The AI baselines are hard to beat, and I didn't manage to beat them, but I wrote a decent paper explaining what I did. The final exam for this class should be dropped as it doesn't add value to the class, people regularly score extremely low on it, the average score in the class was something like a 45%. I scored a bit lower than average but still got an A in the class because it was heavily curved. Reinforcement learning is a very interesting topic, though, and I would highly recommend this class as a primer on the material. It's probably a good idea not to take it in the summer, though.
10. CS 7643 - This class was pretty difficult but I still think 6740 was tougher. The material is extremely dense. There are parts of programming assignments that are autograded, but also short answer portions that are reviewed by TAs. Grading on those were pretty subjective. This is the only class I can remember really needing to discuss things with TAs to understand what was being asked a little better. Unfortunately, the TAs in the semester I took this weren't the best. They seemed more concerned with unintentionally giving away a bit too much information in any of their responses. I can understand this, but it came off as intentionally opaque most of the time. There was a group project for this course as well, and my group was excellent, probably the best experience I had with a group in this program. I can imagine how much this course would've sucked if I would've had a mediocre/bad group. Based on discussions with my group, some of the grading seemed highly arbitrary, with some TAs grading similar responses to the same question differently. Like I said above, though, I never really worried about this. I never once in this program ever disputed a grade, and I continued with that in this class as well.
11. CSE 6748 - Practicum and final class. For this class you get to choose between a number of pre-determined Georgia Tech sponsors, or form your own project for your own employesome external entity. It was a lot more work to do this, so I just went with one of the pre-determined GTech ones. I really enjoyed this one, I had constant communication with the sponsor as I developed my project and came up with something that I was quite proud of. I wanted to explore a natural language processing task, so I picked a project that I thought would allow me to do this, and was very satisfied with the result. There's a number of videos you have to watch that explain some overarching aspect of analytics that were pretty interesting as well, you can watch all of these in a single day and then focus on the project if you like. It's possible to finish the entire semester's work in just a few weeks, I was able to do the entire project and write the final paper in about a month's time, at which point I coordinated with the sponsor to tailor the work I did to a format that they would be able to implement for their business problem if they wanted to.

I can't comment on the job placement prospects of this program, as I just finished it and was actively employed the entire time I was in it. As an actuary there's not much this program does that my exam certification process didn't in terms of career prospects. However, it did position me much better within the context of the expanding role of data and analytics in insurance going forward, and also opens me up to similarly mathematical roles with a firmer grounding in big data and also some business elements (quantitative finance/data science roles). There were also things I learned in this program that I was able to apply directly to my day-to-day work. If you're considering this program, I would recommend you think about a few things:

1. I'm pretty shocked at how many people I saw during my program who didn't really think that much about why they're doing this. I get that the barrier to entry is low, but it's a serious commitment if you're actually trying to graduate. Most of the people who start this program don't finish, so consider whether you're ready to spend almost 4 years going to school part-time, or if you're able to double up on classes for some of the semesters. Most of the people I know in the program doubled up at least once, I never did but I was never in a hurry. If you must double up, don't make it your first semester. Dip your toe in the water, see how it is, and then reassess. But, above all else, think about why you want to do this, and use that as your guiding goal to bring you through to the end.
2. Something I tended to see pretty much without fail in most of my classes - a lot of the graduate students in this program spend way too much time worrying about minute, particular details that don't really matter. Maybe it was just my philosophy that I would probably never dispute a grade, or that I was never really that concerned with getting a perfect GPA, etc. but I was always marveling at what I saw asked in Ed posts. People would ask whether they could use a certain programming language for an assignment, what packages they were allowed to use, would post screenshots of bugs and ask for TA's to help walk them through it, etc. Generally, without fail, the TAs would respond along the lines of: use whatever programming language you want, as long as you can display your output/submit it in a way that we can verify by running ourselves, we'll make the effort; use the debugger to step through your code to find the problem; etc. Generally, in most cases, the assignments and questions are designed in a way to teach you something, to get you to realize/understand some pattern or data concept that has some underlying logic that makes sense. For example, the idea of saliency maps on image processing takes the 3-channel RGB color pixel shading representation of an image and condenses it into a single channel, and, as a result of that, loses some resolution in suggesting parts of the image driving a model result that might be different depending on the channel; i.e., an image with a very heavily blue-shaded part that detracts from a certain result, but with a red-shaded part somewhere else that increases the probability of the modeled result. This was part of a conceptual question on how saliency maps differed from other pixel influence attribution methods in Deep Learning, and is part of what you should logically understand since it reduces the channels of the image representation from 3 (R, G, B) to 1 (usually grayscale). I think people tend to run to the TA the second they have difficulty with something and don't stop for a second to think it through, one exercise I might recommend is to consider: if you ran into this problem out in the world and you didn't have a TA/managesome other authority figure to explain the answer to you, what do you think it might be? Does the answer even matter? If it still matters and you have no idea how to solve it, maybe then you can go to the TA.
3. In every single group project I worked on, we had an initial planning session where we determined the scope of what we wanted to do. For most of the projects, this was an essential deliverable in addition to the final paper. However, in almost every case, someone in the group was always playing some game of runaway scope where they kept on wanting to add methods/questions to exploration beyond what was initially planned in ways that I intuitively knew would be impossible to manage in just one semester. I often had to say something along the lines of "if we have time we'll do that" or "when we write up our paper, we can put that in the avenues for future exploration section" or something similar. It turns out that we never had time to look into these things, and our initial scope was usually well-defined considering the time we had. I'm not sure why this was always so front-and-center in my focus, maybe since I used to work in consulting and project budgeting/scoping is so unbelievably important in that context. Whatever the case may be, understand that you won't be able to change the world every time you do a project. Make some incremental improvement, reflect on the results, and then include some notes in a "potential avenues for future exploration" section. I was pretty surprised at how many people had so much trouble putting the pencils down at the end. I can practically guarantee that, for the classes where I did a project on my own, I probably did substantially less work than other individual groups for precisely this reason. In general, you probably don't have to do as much work as you think you do.

So, would I recommend the program overall? Absolutely. It's not perfect, I found some of the formats annoying - CS 7642 has no business having that final exam, it adds nothing to the class at all, is arbitrarily extremely difficult and the class is good enough and complete enough with the removal of that exam that its inclusion to me appears to be the result of some arbitrary quota somewhere. I also don't really like the group project format and profoundly disagree with the reasoning that GTech and most other academic institutions give as to why group projects are even good or necessary, however I do acknowledge that from a logistics and resource standpoint it's unmanageable to grade individual projects for every single person in a given class and group projects do decrease the number of papers that TAs will have to read. Considering the scale of what GTech has managed to do, and how many students enroll each year, I'm surprised the program is as well-managed as it is. Yes, it does require a lot of self-teaching, but in most cases you can actively engage with TAs multiple times a week if you're struggling with topics and from what I've seen they were very responsive.
Anyways just wanted to give my perspective as someone who just finished this program and still thinks it's worthwhile despite its flaws.

Coursework: 10 APs. Just finished AP exams for 5 of them, the others went as follows. AP Chem (5), AP Comp Sci Principles (5), AP Lang (5), APUSH (5), AP Human Geo (4). Predicting 5s on the following exams this year: Calc AB, Biology, Comp Sci A, good chance at 5s on Literature and Euro but I'm less sure about those two.
Note: planning to take 5 more AP’s my senior year, so total AP count is going to be 15.

Can I get some chances at those colleges I mentioned above? Stats wise, I'm pretty sure I stack up against other applicants, but I'm not sure if my ECs are strong enough plus the fact that I don't have any hooks. If possible, include the chances for regular vs. early for the colleges that have early programs which offer a significant increase in admission. Also, if you have any other colleges in mind that you think would be a good fit please comment those!

I have absolutely no idea what to do. I have nobody to rely on. I don't know what to do. I am 19f. My life is a complete shit show. I was bullied not only emotionally but physically throughout my childhood, primarily due to being neurodivergent, though I didn't know that at the time, just thought I was "weird" and nobody liked me despite being a kind kid. I was obsesssed with early childhood education, reading books by Maria Montessori and writing teaching philosophy statements at the age of 8. I was paralyzed for about a year at the age of 11 and suffered severe medical trauma in the hospital as well. I felt my autonomy was stripped away from me and various professionals there, looking back, were abusive and negligent. There in the hospital I remember wanting to die for the first time. When I got out, the bullying just got worse because now I had the whole being-in-a-wheelchair-thing going against me too. I ended up doing stupid shit to impress my peers and try to make friends, which just meant that I was constantly getting into trouble as a younger teen, which didn't help my mental health. I tried to kill myself at 13. My mom slapped me in the face while I was bleeding from my wrists and told me I was going to ruin her reputation and that I couldn't go to the hospital. I really needed stitches, I still have very visible scars from that day. She sewed holes in some long sleeved shirts for me to put my thumbs through to hide my arms at school and told me not to tell anyone. Things were never the same between me and my parents. I began at 14 seeking validation from adult men online. It was stupid and reckless, but it helped in the moment. I was kidnapped a week before I was supposed to start high school by a 33 year old man. He drove me to a different state 500 miles away, raped me, and tried to strangle me to death before police came. They treated me like a suspect and handcuffed me and made me sit in a cold car for 3 hours in the middle of the night. There was an amber alert sent out all over. I was put in a psych ward for about a week and then began 9th grade at a new school as "the girl from the amber alert" to everyone around me. Everyone was talking about it and asking for specifics and making jokes about what happened to me. It also made me a target for older boys who thought it was evidence that I was easy to manipulate. One of them ended up being the reason I had to leave school a month later. I did online school with my now emotionally abusive parents for several months before starting at a new school. But then, covid shut everything down again, and it was all taken away from me. My mental health was terrible and my parents opted for an unhelpful tough love approach. I became very hypersexual due to my trauma, which ended in me being assaulted more times than one. My parents blamed me and began to resent me, their words not mine. I entered a long term relationship at 16 with a boy I truly loved, we will call him K. K got me pregnant and I wanted to keep it, but my parents forced me to get an abortion with illegal drugs. It was traumatizing and I spiraled. A mentor figure who was a family friend betrayed me horribly. K got me pregnant again. I was on birth control, though everyone believes it was intentional, it was not. My parents said I could either get an abortion or leave home, so I moved out at 17. I got my shit together. For a while, things were good. I got an associates degree incredibly quickly and began a successful career in early childhood education as I had always dreamed. I worked my way up to a lead teacher at 18 and loved it. K and I were so happy. He proposed. The kind of true love most people never get to experience. Most of my peers drifted away during my pregnancy. I didn't care, I had K, my unborn baby, and my job. Then, while in labor, I found out K was cheating on me the entire time. I forgave him and we tried again, though I was postpartum and heartbroken. I stayed home with my newborn son while he worked, or so I thought. Really, he got fired or never went to every job I thought he had. He would drive there and turn his data off so his location was set there all day. He would stage pictures and talk about work. Really he was cheating, doing drugs, and playing video games while I was at home with our baby. His anger issues got worse and he'd get violent but not to the extent that I couldn't justify it to myself. His whole family knew. The cycle of him being caught and apologizing profusely and then doing it again went on for a while before he said that he needed to get out of his house where his cheater DV father was impeding his progress in getting better. I love him. It made sense, his dad was clearly where the behavior stemmed from. I left my housing program to get him out and we all 3 lived in hotels for a few months. I had to sell my body to afford a place for us to live. I was working full time as a lead teacher it just wasn't enough. He still couldn't keep a job but he wasn't lying or cheating. I got us a nice apartment all on my own. Things were good for a while. His anger issues would flair up at times but not as bad, and no lying or infidelity. We had so many heart to hearts. We got married. I did great at my job. He started doordashing for income. Things were going well. Then 6 months into our marriage, about 9 months after we moved out/7 months after we got our apartment, he sprung on me that he wanted a divorce. That was about 7 months ago now. We have been living together and I have been hoping to rebuild. In his vows, he swore so sincerely and in such great heartfelt detail to do better and be better and stand by me. And then he just through it all away. He has been so mean lately. Sometimes things are okay and it's like everything is the same. But he thinks I don't clean enough even though I try and he says I don't support him emotionally even though I really feel like I do. I also pay for everything, I even bought him an 800 dollar PC a couple months ago. I got really sick a month ago. Like vomiting 10+ times a day. I thought I had a stomach bug and didn't have money to go to the doctor over something so trivial that would clear up on its own. I made too much for medicaid but still not a lot. After only 4 days of being gone and feeling like shit, my work fired me. After another week or so of feeling sick and getting so weak I thought I was dying, I went to the hospital. They said all the vomiting had made me very dehydrated and I was lacking in a lot of vitamins. They gave me medicine and an IV. Turns out I'm pregnant and have HG. I'm pretty far along. At first K was supportive but now he acts like I'm trying to "trap" him with a baby, which doesn't even make sense. We were having unprotected sex and the only birth control was that I am breastfeeding, which he knew, so it isn't that crazy of an outcome. He has been so cruel and angry, saying terrible things. He threatens to leave when he gets mad so I beg him to stay because he knows I'd be all alone and I love him a lot. He has said some terribly cruel things and it's like every tiny thing I do wrong makes me the villain. Yesterday he blew up on me and it was scary and terrible. Today, I found out the few friends I thought I had hate me. One of them sent me the most cruel message I have ever received completely unprompted. I have no family support, no friends, my husband hates me, and everyone I've ever cared about except my son (who is different because he's too young to understand and he loves everyone and he is also a responsibility) wants nothing to do with me unless they are using me. I am so suicidal. I know a lot of people are suicidal but I am genuinely at a point where I am close to doing something I can't take back. But I can't because of my kids, both the 1 year old and the unborn one. And as much as I know I should be grateful for that, it feels so unfair. I've been having to do things I don't want to for money again. I have another great teaching job lined up but I don't start for at least a month. I feel like I should go to a hospital but I live in a state with a very high child removal rate even in cases of just mental health. I am a great mom, even though my husband and ex friends do not seem to agree. I can't risk having my fitness as a parent called into question over an unrelated mental health issue, especially since K's family and lots of people in my life would love the chance to lie about me to cps, and since I'm not employed right now, it doesn't look great. I don't know what to do. I feel so alone. I'm so so hurt. It feels like everything is falling apart. Not that long ago, I was a lead teacher, a wife, I felt like a respected and respectable person. Now I just feel like my train wreck of a life full of trauma has taunted me with this perfect picket fence life that I worked so hard for just to rip it away from me and leave me a useless unemployed incubator that everyone hates and is only holding on for her kids sake. The only people who talk to me or "care" just want to fuck me. Even the people interested in a relationship with me and seem like "good Christian men" are still driven by lust even if they disguise it to themselves. I have never felt so hopeless. I feel like I don't deserve this but everyone from my partner to my parents to my ex friends seem to think I do so maybe I'm just fooling myself.

It's an unfortunate fact of life: If you spend the majority of your time with people who have a low skill level at something you also do, they will eventually influence your own skill level, even if it's just in terms of motivation and creativity. It will literally dull that part of your brain. If you spend time with people who are better than you, it will encourage you to up your own game (it's better that the people aren't geniuses, though, or it can backfire! Just a level or 2 better than you is best!).

4AP classes, with AP scores of 4 and 5s, and 8 college classes at my community college.
Had a bad sophomore year, have retaken any bad grades like a C and a D I had. Got 4.0 Junior year and 3.85 Freshman year.
ACT: 28 (first try, no studying, am studying for retake)
Intended major: Pre-law or Pre-Med (I’ve mostly committed to pre law but have begun to seriously consider medicine
Extracurriculars:
JV Swim Team: Years 1-2, not very good no rewards to speak of
BJJ (White Belt): Medaled in Gi State championship for adult division (16+) beat two adults to get third place. 1 year
Taekwondo Purple belt: State sparring champ, forms second place, 1 year
VP of Youth Court Org, 300+ hours, have worked and led a variety of cases

Hope my senior year to get 4.0 again and elevate my GPA even more, but I’m not sure that will affect admissions much.
With all that said, what are my chances ? And any schools I should think of applying to? (I don’t plan on applying anywhere else so far so if I don’t get into the academies I’ll just do community college, transfer to a state college, then off to med or law school hopefully.)

Hi everybody,
I wanted to share a bit about my applications to various schools in Canada; Grades, Casper, Volunteer experience, etc. and which schools I was/wasn't accepted.
I hope this might give some applicants a sense of what is needed to get into schools, and perhaps a bit of an idea of the weighting of certain aspects of the application the different schools consider.
My stats:
Undergrad: BKIN (health sciences stream) at UBC
Cumulative average: 88.5%
Last 60 Credits: 90.3%
Last 30 Credits: 91.7%
Casper: 2nd Quartile
Volunteer experience: 3 seasons as a trainer for a varsity team (included PT shadowing), 2 Summers working with organization that provides recreational activities for people with disabilities.

• No research experience, which I regret.
  
• I put a lot of thought into the written applications, though I'm sure that you all have as well.
  
• 2 very strong academic references (I made a point to ask questions in class, and speak to the professors directly)
  
• I feel that I kind of messed up on my UBC interview, did fairly well with the UAlberta interview (felt fairly relaxed), and did a little under-average with McMaster. (take this with more than 1 grain of salt)
  
• Albertan resident.
  
• I don't know if this matters, but I am a straight Caucasian male and am not living with any disabilities.

When I received my Casper score, I felt very defeated. I essentially thought my chances were slim to none, and that I would have to apply again next year. But apparently many of the schools still considered me despite a 2nd quartile score. So don't give up hope if your Casper score is not as strong as the rest of your application!
Potential take-aways:

• I think this may indicate that UofT has pretty high standards for Casper scores given that I was not offered an interview.
  
• The other schools that do consider the Casper score may not be weighing them as heavily as we might think, or perhaps just using a cut-off below the 2nd quartile..?
  
• Western and Queens are willing to accept an out-of-province applicant with a poor Casper score

P.S. I decided to accept the Offer from UAlberta. I think the program looks well designed, and I wanted to to stay closer to home.

I've been a teacher for 25 years, 20 of which have been at my current school. I use a blood glucose sensor so my sugars can be shown to others, which I have done to share with SLT how the heat makes me constantly hypo as it makes insulin much more effective, but unpredictably so. I even make them put into writing at my annual review that the heat and lack of ventilation makes me ill. It results in me hypoing all day (emergency low blood sugar) and becoming exhausted, which is frightening as (due to public service cuts) I'm the lone adult in the classroom. It's 8pm here and I'm already in bed.
Last Tuesday was undoubtedly the most terrifying day of my life. The unbearable heat caused a prolonged hypo and I was so incredibly low (the idiom '4 on the floor' is appropriate here. Most diabetics will have a blood sugar around 7. Non-diabetics around 5. I know USA employ a different scaling system, so hopefully this provides some context). My blood sugar was 1. Pupils were about to leave at 3.30. I couldn't see due to double vision. I was sweating profusely and shaking like a pooping dog. Most importantly, I couldn't think straight. No chance. I had zero coordination a'd kept falling over.
My lovely classroom cleaner came in and recognised the signs straight away as she has a type 1 son. She knew I was BAD. In 16 ish years, I've never experienced such an event. I've never passed out. That was about to change...
My cleaner grabbed SLT member whom knew I'd never, ever been as bad as this. She takes me home and ensures I drink juice, eat etc until BS raise. She drives me back to school. This took far longer than usual and was indicative of how low I was. I collect car and come home. I've been a single parent for 20 years and have a son studying medicine (important later) at uni and a daughter waiting to start uni in September. She was not due home on Tuesday and was due to play football which I encouraged her to do as I was absolutely fine. She was due to stay at her b/fs but forgot something so popped home. She found me passed out cold in bed.
My daughter called for an NHS ambulance (every Brit will tell you of their total admiration for the NHS, as well as those that work there, but consistent and deliberate underfunding by our God awful government of over 14 years has destroyed what we hold dear) and was told the wait would be around 3 hrs. My son has nearly qualified as a doctor and told her to bundle me into the car and drive 5 mins to the hospital.
I have near zero recollection of the hospital as I kept passing out in the resuss unit. But even after stacks of IV and oral glucose, my sugar stayed at 1. It took HOURS to reach a safe level. It was around 430 am when we left and (as I didn't have my phone), my daughter emailed my head teacher informing him what happened and that I wouldn't be in that day. I took one day off (many will understand that staying off is usually more problematic than it's worth) and I returned to work on Thursday. Apon my return, I expected from SLT (Senior Leadership Team) understanding, empathy and a way of moving forward with a required adjustment to my working environment being seriously considered. Silly, silly me.
This is what happened and what I'm struggling to deal with.

• My head teacher was p155ed and blamed me. Bear in mind, nothing like this has ever happened, despite consistent lows brought on by a classroom with a temperature of over 40 degrees.
• Blame was shifted entirely onto me, I take my condition extremely seriously and blood test at least 20 times a day. I was berated and humiliated.
• I have an incredibly challenging year 3/4 class. The other 3/4 class is partly taught by the deputy head who cherry picks his class whom are the 'easiest' pupils.
• There's a year 3 teacher whom had the class last year whom enjoyed Full time support with them, which is basically unheard of these days but was deemed necessary. I was told that I'd been given the most challenging children as I have 'a way with SEND pupils' and I would have in-class support as well, whereas the Deputy wouldn't have any. Fair enough. This support never materialised. It's been the most challenging year of my career. This has made testing bloods etc more tricky.
• This year, I have become full-time for the first time in years due to cost of living crisis. I was questioned by Head whether I should be FT or whether I should be teaching at all. For a one off that I've warned them about! 25 years in! Head said 'I'm willing to let it carry on for now.' it's a protected disability. Can they do that?
• Zero compassion was shown for me only being here still because my daughter came home unexpectedly. I'd be dead, in a coma or severly brain damaged if she hadn't. How can they be so cold? It's made me feel awful. I always get an outstanding ofsted review (not that I place any weight on their limited snap shot reviews), am the most 'popular' teacher in school - as per Head and deputy - and Ofsted's review last year said my class made 'exceptional progress.' I'm genuinely good at my job. -I contacted my union on Saturday. I'm actually the union rep. I've not heard from them, as yet....

I'd love some advice - how to proceed to never experience this again, how to regain some confidence, and how I stand legally. Even if your advice is hard to hear, a harsh truth is preferable to a placating half truth.

Hey everyone.
I'm 17 years old, turning 18 in July.
I feel kind of lost right now. I get that it's hard for 99% of the people that just turn " 18 " and are " just " entering life and learning the hardships, I've always been aware of these and prepared. I love working, like genuinely love it and spend 24/7 wanting to work.
I just don't know what or where.
So, a little " picture " of me. I was hit by a car back in 8th grade, I don't remember exactly what age that is. In result I was in the hospital for 4 months, had to " re-learn " how to walk since my body had technically forgotten it since I hadn't walked for so long. And this affected what I could do for a couple of years, and I kind of sometimes find it hard to "memorize" stuff. I had broken my left leg, spine, nose and my skull. Worst part was the skull, had to get a VERY risky operation, which thank God it went great and now I've got a very " cool " big ol' scar on my head lol. I was very sporty, I loved sports and wanted to pursue " fighting " sports such as mma and grappling as I got older, so like the age that I am now. But since this happened, Sports & MOSTLY those sports came out of the picture. I used to be a really good b'bal player, I was always put up with people 4-5 years older than me, but stupidly I was " shy " of how skinny I was. Anyways, I was SUPER skinny, and I hated that so much. And I'm basically an ectomorph, no matter HOW much I eat I genuinely don't get fat. So, I put my mind to it, ignoring what the doctors said and started working my ass out. And now, I'm much better, don't feel anything related to the accident. My head just feels a little overwhelmed when let's say I run constantly for like 5+ mins. Anyways, now I'm very very very pleased with my body. It's quite the " dream " body for my age.
I know you might be thinking what in the fuckery does this have to do with me asking for advice about " work ", I'm basically trying to tell you that if I put my mind to something nothing stops me. I don't need "motivation" to pursue something, all I need is the " start " and I just chase till finish. And That is how it is for me, 99% of the time the start is hard for me.
I guess I'm good with languages. I speak Armenian, Persian, English and a little Russian // Spanish (Can get them both to an advanced level if I find the " need " for it) & I started learning French, because I'm going to go to a French UNI and I wanted a HeadStart compared to the other students, but my mom kind of shut me down and said why are you wasting your time learning a "language" when they're going to teach you that from scratch. Instead learn something actual (she was referring to programming). I mean yeah, I guess I agree with her, since I don't know anything for the "future" to work. But anyways in no way do I want a job in anything related to languages (Like a translator etc...)
I was 15-16, I worked as a logistics operator and was able to make $1600 in a month. But the market kind of died, so did the office, so I stopped, then I focused on my exams for UNI and I'm accepted now. I will be studying Marketing, but probs will switch to Business on my 2-nd year. I have plans to get a Master's degree as-well. Either the opposite of what I study (so If I get a bachelor's in marketing, I'll go for a master's in business or if I have enough finances to pay for it myself, I'll go for CS).
So now, after I've finished everything, School exams done, UNI has been applied // accepted to and I'm just " getting " into life I'm worried day and night about work. I feel like I genuinely don't know anything to find a work for or just in general don't know anything. And I know people say there is so so much time ahead of you, you're still young and you'll find it. But I don't want to waste a single second, since each second can be spent studying or even better working.
I am decent at forex trading; I am able to make decent profit (demo account obviously) and have general knowledge of the market and know how it works basically. Of course there is still much to learn, like anyone in any field. My dad works as a trader as-well. See this is something that I enjoy, but I can't have this as a " main " job. It will be something on the side, and I need to have another MAIN source of income to be able to grow my account and get decent profit. Anyways as I mentioned that 1.6k I've got saved, I'm going to be opening an account at like $300 and I can see me making decent money from it, but still as I said that's not going to be a main " field" or "job" I don't know the word.
That's basically all that I "know" or am good at.
I talk to my mom, asking her to help // guide me. She keeps on saying programming, go become a programmer (saying this person makes tons, that person pays for her whole family and has tons of money for himself etc...). I know programming is an amazing job, mostly pay-wise, but I just don't enjoy it. I ask her to give me an idea for something else, I don't enjoy this and sarcastically she says go become a barber or a server or something. It's quite irritating because my sister has just finished her master's degree (she's 22) and makes good money, and she looks " down " at me, treats me like she's "higher?", ha-ha.
So currently, for the past week I've been studying programming (Python to be exact), and I guess I can see me finding a junior position during August or September probably. But as I mentioned, I don't really enjoy this. It's just not my thing I guess, writing stuff on and on and on all day is eh... to me.
I'm a person who genuinely loves working, just need guidance. Also, another reason why I'm so EAGER to just " jump" into life and start ACTUAL work, is because I want to get myself a car (fully paid by me) and much more stuff on my bucket list.
Sorry if this is stupidly long and half of this is just " pointless " but I guess I'm ranting and trying to get advice.
