2024.05.01 15:41 loliufg1 I have turned 40$ into over 1 Million $ playing Poker. AMA

Hey everyone,
I'm Elias Holloway, 24 years old, a highstakes professional which climbed all the way from nl2 to nl20k and this is my (long) story. AMA!
EDIT: If you don't believe eliasholloway_ on Insta, no worries, it's not an ad. I have 0 posts and barely use it. But I do have a big pot poker highlight there where you can see I am indeed real name verified on GG and I am winning some big pots! ;)
Here is my graph from nl2-nl5000: 14.2bb/100 450k hands
My story:
I started playing poker 8 years ago, first on Zynga Poker on Facebook, which I soon managed to beat (play money). Then I took a chance and deposited €20, which was a lot for me back then. I've always loved games, and I thought if I got good enough at poker, I might just escape my designated boring life (forced to go to some college even though I always hated school!). I devoured every book I could find in my local library and kept practicing. Jumping into real money games was tough, though. After about 2 months at NL2, I was broke, but I wasn't ready to give up. I deposited another €20, and this time, luck was on my side. I tried out a lot in the beginning, and one day, I got lucky and binked a €1 tournament for a total of around €82.
For me, this win was gold. I stood there screaming for like 5 minutes straight, jumping up and down in my room. I don't think I've ever felt that happy again after a session, not even after my €65k Euro session last winter. I had a few friends watching me on Skype, and by the end of my excitement, everyone had me muted because I just went crazy, haha. Unfortunately, the luck didn't last long. Of course, I was just lucky. I mean, I had AA 4 times just on the final table! But this win gave me enough money to keep grinding NL2 until I finally managed to beat it.
Over the next 2 years, I dedicated most of my time to poker. I won around €10k while still underage, playing on accounts from older friends. My school, my family, and everyone I knew thought I was crazy. Everyone told me I was wasting my talent. Things with my girlfriend got ugly because I didn't have enough time for her, and neither she nor her family believed in me. I started skipping school a lot, but I knew what I wanted. So, 3 days before my 18th birthday, I signed up for Best Poker Coaching (BPC).
In the first few months, results didn't come in. It was a hard time. I had 3-5 coachings a week, mostly during school time. I had to play 35-40 hours per week, and it was MY FINAL YEAR! I missed 700-800 hours of school and slept an average of maybe 3-4 hours. During 10-minute breaks, I went into an empty class with an alarm to catch some sleep. At one point, I even tried to get my sleep rhythm down to 2 hours a day with sleeping 6x 20 minutes. But nothing... I struggled to go beyond nl10 Zoom with my new coach.
In December 2017, my Zoom coach told me they were looking for heads up students, and I should start there, but the requirement was a 1500€ BR. Since I saved and locked away some money I won, spent some on coaching, and some on partying, I had barely 700-800€ left. But nobody knew, so I said I wanted to switch, and then things started to change!
I found my coach, Gordon, whom I only knew from the old videos he recorded back when he was still actively coaching in BPC, and he opened my eyes. Finally, someone explained poker to me in a language I understood. I remember sitting there and couldn't believe what I heard. If he's right, I AM GOING TO BE RICH!!! And he was right.
FAST FORWARD exactly 1 year after I joined BPC ->
Achivements
AUG 2018 - because of a heater, I had my first €10k month in just 2 weeks playing already nl400 back then. I partied for the rest of the month and moved up to nl600.
DEZ 2018 - 28k month (nl1k)
And then I actually did not progress for a long time. I traveled a lot. My few k investments I had always went really well, and when I needed money, I just played a bit of Poker... I thought I am a god, I guess. And so I threw all I had, roughly 30k at this point (my nl1k BR), into a single stock!
WIRECARD. THE BIGGEST FRAUD IN GERMAN HISTORY.
2020 - So there I was. Broke once more.
I sold the ounce of gold I had left and started on nl50 again. Lucky me while I was a horrible investor, I was still good at poker.
Just 2 months later, I was back at nl1k, shooting aggressively with 15BI shots. But this time, I kept grinding and playing. I set a goal to become a millionaire by 25!
2020 - €92k Dez (100k$+ :P) (nl8k?!)
2023 - €250k in 3.5 months, €65k Euro DAY (nl20k)
NET PROFIT: €1-€1.5 Million Euro in 6 years.
Not counting my first two years where I barely made any money. (10k total)
Now: AMA!:
PS: If you know anyone who might be interested in my AMA, feel free to share the link and spread the word. The more, the better!
Looking forward to chatting with all of you!

2024.04.23 20:48 zestlyboi Fish’s First Win!

Fish’s First Win!
TLDR: Fish gets his first “high hand” and actually has fun winning and playing poker :)
I remember the day as if it were yesterday. I believe the first time I was introduced to poker, I was only 11 years old. The year was 2012 and I was playing Zynga Poker on Facebook to pass the summertime. 12 years later and I can say that I’ve booked my first real win. Here’s how it all kinda went down.
Over the last few months since the start of 2024, I’ve played probably around 6 to 7 sessions of poker in the 1/2 game, whether I was at Orange City Poker Room, Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa, or even in my hometown of Sarasota at One Eyed Jacks Poker Room (Orlando based fish here). none of my sessions have been profitable, but I will say that the experience that I’ve gained from each and every one of them has been monumental. Going into this weekend, I was feeling more confident than ever that I would walk out profitable. Walking in with just two $100 buy-ins, I hoped to make the most of this weekend. On Saturday, I drove down to Sarasota to visit my family and suggested that we all go play at One Eyed Jacks, to which my cousin and mother obliged. I sat down at the 1/2 game with my $100 and the first few hands were rather uneventful. It wasn’t until the forth or fifth hand I was dealt that things took a change for the better.
In this hand, I am dealt pocket 6s in the small blind. Calls all around, 6 ways to a flop, comes 6, 2, 5, 2 spades. I have a set of 6s, so I’m feeling pretty confident about my hand already. My opponents at the table have not been giving a whole lot of action so if I want to get any value from this hand, it has to be super thin. I put in the $5 raise. Everyone folds except for one, he puts in the call. Heads up to a turn and it’s a 9. I put in the $10 raise. Villain calls. River is absolutely beautiful, and gives me my first ever “high hand”, the last 6. Me on the flop and turn: 😄😌😇. Me on the river: 👁️👄👁️ Now, One Eyed Jacks has a beautiful $400 payout on all high hands on Saturdays, starting with quads. So I already knew I secured the bag with this one, but I didn’t know if I would get paid out if my opponent didn’t call, so I put in a small $15 raise just to get to showdown. My opponent calls and we show him the goods. To say I was a ecstatic is an understatement, as I had a really good feeling I was going to get a high hand that day, I just didn’t know what it was going to be or when. That session right there made my whole weekend. However, after that hand I stuck around, moved tables, and played for another couple of hours before heading out.
The next day, I headed back home towards Orlando and couldn’t help but stop at the Hard Rock. Right now, the casino is doing a car giveaway every day in April; all you have to do is insert your players card at a slot or table game to get inserted for the drawing. I did my little spins on a slot to be inserted in the drawing, and then I worked my way to the poker room where I stayed for four hours racking up my chips from $100 to $380. Although I was up, I was mostly just having a good time watching the NBA playoffs, and I was playing pretty tight so as not to lose my profit from the day before. Needless to say I’m pretty happy with how the way the weekend turned out :)

2024.04.23 01:43 Israeli_Djent_Alien Lower ranks in video games are way more fun than higher ranks

I like playing competitive games from time to time, particularly Counter Strike on the PC and Zynga Poker on the phone. To sum it up, I play both of them in the very lowest rank in the game and have a blast while doing it, and I legit think it's the most fun way to play anything competitive, anything higher and the game suddenly becomes way less fun and a much heavier toll on me as a player. Each one of these games has its own reasons.
When it comes to Zynga poker, I do have lots of in game money (last time I checked it's way over 100M), but I've always played on the least value tables which are 10K max buy in (and honestly I'd be even happier if there was a table with even less). In short, you can be way more chaotic with that and bet like an absolute crackhead without having to even check how much money you have. I can practically just all in every round, auto buy in and repeat, in any more "serious" high value table I'll probably be blowing through the entire account lol.
in Counter Strike... let's just say I suck, really hard. I've always been Silver 1 in CSGO (lowest in the game) and the highest I reached is Silver 4. So many of my friends were Gold Novas at the lowest and the majority were Master Guardians up to DMG (DMG being the 5th highest rank in the game). Now in CS2 I haven't even won enough Premier marches to even have a Premier score and these same friends have scores of around 10-15K. My friends have also been super invested in CSGO for years before I've even started playing, where as to me it's always been a free time activity when I came home from school or finished working. High ranks force you to be super invested in it and I'm not willing to do it. Sure I can master the craft of CS but I have another talent IRL that I think investing the time in that wound be much more valuable.
Another thing is that low ranks are much more chill. I don't have anything to worry about when I'm playing as I'm already rock bottom in this game, so there's nowhere to go down from there. I've been rejected from a few games by my friends because sometimes they worried about losing their rank and getting demoted, which is not anything I have to worry about when my rank is the lowest.
Happy to hear everyone's experiences in regards to that, both popular and not :D
