2024.05.21 12:27 JHRxddt Saw Rise and Dawn, missed War, saw Kingdom and have a lot of praise!

I’ve been casual with this series, saw Rise and Dawn in the cinema but don’t remember too much about them. Did enjoy them definitely.
I saw Kingdom last night, and immediately kicked myself for missing War during the pandemic. Found out that War was actually 2017 and realised I must have got caught up in University at the time.
I was really impressed with Kingdom and I can honestly saw it’s the best thing I’ve seen in terms of blockbuster scale since Avatar 2. For starts, the CGI was on par with those films; the visuals aren’t quite as otherworldly obviously, but the greenery was beautiful and I was in awe at every shot of the overrun human-built infrastructure.
What I really enjoyed, especially for a series that’s as much as a franchise as anything else these days, is that I was constantly feeling as if these characters could suffer a great setback or loss at any given moment. This is sorely missing from modern mainstream cinema; it felt like the writers were mindful of either subverting expectations or making me wonder if they’d subvert expectations.
Examples include the treetop fight scene in Act 1; what a breathtaking fight. Felt like every hit and manoeuvre mattered. The bridge scene, where I did wonder ‘how are they going to get out of this?’ but then assumed they must do with the remaining runtime… In the climax I was certain that the female friend ape or the Mother would be killed. I’ve just never felt so on edge in the cinema for so long, and I credit the writers with coming up with such a likeable cast of characters for what is essentially a semi-reboot.
Mae was kind of thinly drawn but this made sense to me given the later reveals, and I’m sure the intention is to build her from here. The actress played this purposeful one-dimensionality with plenty of emotion.
And to top it all off, the soundtrack popped at all the right times.
Massive thumbs up for me and I hope this film continues to find the respect it deserves!

2024.05.21 11:45 ykzdropdead A few ideas for TWW to improve class gameplay and combat

This post felt rambly but they're just some cool ideas, I didn't care for its' structure
Underwhelming Major Cooldowns
A few long cooldown spells still feel very underwhelming to press. Trueshot, Beastial Wrath, Berserk, Icy Veins, Recklessness, Avatar and the likes. Comparatively, think of Havoc DH Metamorphosis and how much it does by pressing one button. It's a really long leap with customized distance and landing spot, a very strong stun, an incredible animation, visual character transformation, modifies your abilities AND provides rotational changes. And I felt that the hero talent trees would be a great way to fix this issue, or at least try to fix that.
For example: Icy veins would now have a long cast, and would throw three Glacial Spikes at 50% (or 75% or some other percentage, insert a fair % here) effectiveness on use as a baseline. With the Frostfire hero talent tree, Icy Veins would now throw 3 pyroblasts at X% effectiveness on top of that. Fun, strong, useful, more dynamic, balanced and extremely appealing visually.
A similar approach could be taken with Trueshot and other underwhelming CDs. Just as a another comparison for context, Arcane Mage used to have Arcane Power, and extremelly undewhelming "press this for 35% more damage" button. It was then transformed into Arcane Surge, a long-cast very hard hitting ability that changes your rotation even more than AP did, and now even has a lot more interactions with talents and Mana, your main resource as arcane mage. It was very well received by the mage community and, personally, I now like a lot more playing the spec just because of that. Ascendance for shamans received somewhat of a similar treatment.
My main point is: Major cooldowns should do more and feel more amazing when you press them.
On the recent topic of remaking some hero talent trees, here are some ideas
What if Trickster Rogue would have Tricks of the Trade as its' main functionality, and it could work kind of like a soft support spec, buffing party members and mainly your Tricks target. So for example, Tricks would now give a massive buff (either damage, HP, survivability or some or all) to your Tricks target, on top of doubling its' threat effectiveness (or some percentage).
Your major cooldowns could be then amplified, either receiving all the bonus you've given with Tricks upon activation aswell as spreading your tricks buffs to more party members.
What if Rider of the Apocalypse Unholy DK would have the mounted combat while army of the dead is up, not only in open world. Makes a lot of sense thematically and gameplay wise. DKs need mobility, they're a wheelchair class, this would make it much more fun, engaging and fair to DKs.
Edit: alright I kept cooking, here's a few more examples on the CD changes
Berserk could apply a rake, a thrash, a fully stacked rip AND a fully stacked ferocious bite to your target, on top of what it already does regarding rotational changes, resource management and ability priority.
Celestial Allignment could cast a wrath, a starfire, a starsurge and a fullmoon on your target.
Tree of Life could cast a Tranquility at 1/4 the duration on use.
Avenging Wrath/wings could cast a wake of ashes, a final reckoning and that hammer strike that substitutes templar's verdict and becomes the main spender that I forgot the name.
Elementals could do a lot more for Ele shaman. It's their main spec thematic but currently it does not feel like that at all. Elementals could have a cast time to summon, could be visually bigger, deal a lot more damage, do a massive ability when they're summoned, and last a little shorter. Fire makes lava burst have NO CD AND NO CAST TIME during its' duration. Same for storm ele and lightning spells. Earth ele could make your earth spells deal a little less damage, but have no cost and no cd.

2024.05.21 11:10 Ertsis Gender Identity and Avatar Selection in MMORPG Games

Hi again everyone! Some time ago I posted this survey looking for some answers and I still need around 16 to get my assignment done. It's a pretty short surevy about gender in MMO games and how it affects avatar selection. It's a very basic study it's definetly not very in depth right now, I'm hoping to do more research on this topic in the next years. I also would appreciate any feedback concerning this surevy! (so far I know that gender is much more compicated and this surevy really checks it on a surface level and answers are inverted on the last page which makes it tiny bit confusing). Thanks to everyone that took their time to complete it!

A little about myself before I chicken out. I like video games, movies, tv shows and music. My taste in music is mostly pop but I also listen to songs from musicals even though I haven't watched any. I like both Avatar: the last Airbender and Avatar the blue alien movie. I don't want anyone over 20 dming me please. I also don't want to talk about anything personal except names, you can tell me your name in dms but you can also give me an alias if you're not comfortable telling me. We can also chat on discord but I don't feel comfortable voice chatting or taking a photo of my face to send you so please don't ask.

2024.05.21 10:33 deadcoder0904 Reverse-Engineering SaaS making Millions from Acquire.com

Best way to succeed in startups is copying already successful startups. You don't need to be a genius to find an original idea. After all, everything is a remix.
But where do you find these successful startups making millions? Well, its quite simple.
100s of Indiehackers have been tooting their own revenue on Twitter with the #buildinpublic hashtag. You can find them through it but its a tedious process. We can make it much simpler.
Enter Acquire.com, previously known as MicroAcquire.
Acquire is a marketplace for Startup Founders to sell their profit-generating Startups. These are usually small ones that are made by a team of 1-10 people. Since they are small, they are easy to copy.
Acquire shows you everything from Revenue to Profit to Competitors to the Cost it takes to run. What they don't tell you is the exact startup domain.
But if you are smart enough, you can find the exact domain through your OSINT and SOCMINT Skills.
Just sign up at Acquire. Click on your Avatar on top right and click Explore Marketplace.
You can find extremely good ideas on Acquire but I'll list a few that caught my eye:

1. Twitter outreach tool to find, reach and nurture prospects as well as grow your audience

Link: https://app.acquire.com/startup/zq3DbEFLHnZscyLRbTlxE1BosXv2/0wfJfThkimzDeVmJuieS?source=marketplace
This product is a Cold DM tool that has $185 mrr.
The total profit is $1k and the asking price is $30k.
If you scroll down a bit, you'll find the founding date, the team size, the tech stack, the business model, the competitors, and the growth opportunities.
The best part is when you scroll down a little further. You can find the exact Acquisition channels as it connects with Google Analytics.
This is a good idea to build because let's be honest, every business needs leads.
And what better way to get leads than to automate it with a Twitter outreach tool.

2. AI-Powered Roleplay Site running custom LLM model based off Meta's Llama

Link: https://app.acquire.com/startup/fMWCklAW4PPxiJ4xxpGKzu2Prct2/gvkmQYR8o3GFhG9pbYkS?source=marketplace
Notice on the right there are 15 buyers interested. This shows demand. Investors are mostly interested in the fastest-growing startups.
AI-Powered Roleplay is a huge market. AI Girlfriends are a massive Billion Dollar Business and with the recent release of Llama 3, there will be more alternatives like this.
This product is a 1-person product launched last year in June 2023. It has $5k in profit and $520 mrr but massive potential. If you scroll a bit, we get a Chartmogul graph of ARR, MRR, Customers, and Churn rate.

3. AI Photography Studio

Link: https://app.acquire.com/startup/daNCPe3tsEOyluwxQ5PybYIRVA53/KI3d9vSNWsE499iQjQqW?source=marketplace
AI Photography Studios are all the rage launched during the 2nd wave (text-to-image) of AI.
This one made $2.1m profit and $76k MRR. It had a TikTok go viral so you can assume they are acquiring customers to TikTok. Shouldn't be too hard to find, eh?
They have said the competitors are Aragon and Headshot so you can cut those of your list now. There are only so many alternatives. You can nail this startup down even further. The metrics are 100,000+ customers. I'm sure they are boasting it on their landing pages. You can easily find this one.

4. A lead generation platform for businesses to generate and build email lists. 100% Organic Traffic.

Link: https://app.acquire.com/startup/nEOrnThIWNgtBK07TTdQ4Wbn3f73/eB78ZuQwKlVXFaszdnVJ?source=marketplace
This one has 43 serious buyers. The description is extremely enticing. Hands-off and automated with traffic from Google? Of course, who doesn't like that.
4.7 rating on Trustpilot with 380 reviews. And the competitor is Uplead.
Metrics are incredible. ~$50k mrr ($578k / 12 months) with 100-1000 customers. The traffic is consistent.
Try copying the description we found above and paste it into Google:
An all-in-one platform designed for businesses aiming to generate leads by extracting data from various social media channels and quickly building email lists, with an amazing Trustpilot rating of 4.7 based on over 380 reviews from satisfied customers.
And scroll down a bit to see Outscraper and LeadSwift recommended. Open them both up in the New Tab.
Remember the listing had Tech Stack? Yep, we'll use that to nail it down further.
Install Wappalyzer on your platform of choice. I use Chrome so I installed the Chrome Extension.
Reload the websites (Outscraper and LeadSwift) so the extension loads. Now, you'll see only Outscraper is using WordPress and jQuery while LeadSwift only uses jQuery.
But remember, they might be using React for their dashboard which you can only find after login. But I've found an important datapoint. Outscraper was founded earlier than 2022. You can check the Oldest Tab on their YouTube channel.
Therefore, it might be Leadswift.
A few tips:
  1. Find their founding date and compare.
  2. Find Trustpilot ratings and sort by reviews. Don't forget to search for "leads"
  3. Stalk the founders on Linkedin to find their company starting date. You can also do that through YouTube Oldest Search.
  4. Reverse-engineer their SEO strategy
  5. Check their location on the website. The location in the listing is United States (Florida)
If you just want to build a startup in this niche, then the approximation is more than enough to get an idea of what to build.
However, every listing gives enough info to find them. Some numbers might be misinterpreted to misdirect you. This is basically how you find successful startup ideas. Now you can build them and start marketing them. If you build it and nobody buys it, then you know your marketing sucks. Once you know that, you can improve your marketing skills by reverse-engineering your competitors.
What do you use to reverse-engineer companies? Semrush, SimilarWeb, SensorTower, Chrome Extensions, or anything else?
PS: If you'd like to read the full post with images, you can do so here.
PPS: Bdw, you can also see another post on reverse-engineering business model here.

2024.05.21 08:43 Quizly_Hero Avatar Airbender Quiz: Discover Your True Element Nation

Are you a fierce firebender, a nurturing waterbender, an unwavering earthbender, or a freespirited airbender? The beloved Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender captured the hearts of millions with its rich world inspired by Asian art and mythology. At the center were the four elemental nations - the Fire Nation, Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, and Air Nomads - each with their unique bending abilities, cultures, and philosophies.
If you've ever wondered which of these nations most aligns with your personality and values, an Avatar: The Last Airbender personality assessment can provide fascinating insight. By delving into your traits, tendencies, and perspectives, this Element Nation quiz will reveal which bender you would be in the Avatar universe. Get ready to embark on an inner journey and uncover your elemental identity!

The Power of the Four Elements

In the mystical realm of Avatar, each nation wields the incredible ability to manipulate and "bend" one of the four classical elements - fire, water, earth, and air. More than mere displays of power, these bending arts are intrinsically tied to the philosophies and lifestyles of the respective nations.
  1. The Fire Nation, though once representing oppression and conquest under the rule of the Fire Lord, is founded on principles of passion, force, and ambition. Firebenders draw their strength from willpower, determination, and the eternal cycle of existence.
  2. The Water Tribes, residing in the Arctic North and Antarctic South, are the spiritual guides of the Avatar world. Waterbenders embody the flow of energy, change, and the ever-shifting tides of life. Patience, empathy, and healing are at the heart of their way.
  3. The Earth Kingdom, with its sprawling cities and stubborn persistence, gives rise to earthbenders - steadfast, loyal, and unshakable in their resolve. They find strength in endurance, stability, and an unbreakable connection to their land.
  4. The Air Nomads exemplify freedom, evasiveness, and cyclical rebirth. Airbenders are the embodiment of liberation, detachment, and finding joy in the present moment. Their bending reflects the formless, intangible nature of air itself.

Unveiling Your Inner Element

So, how can you discover which of these elemental philosophies resonates most deeply with your core being? An Avatar personality assessment delves into various facets of your psyche, exploring your values, thought patterns, emotional tendencies, and behavior under stress.
By answering a series of insightful questions, the assessment algorithm analyzes your responses and matches you with the nation that best aligns with your inherent nature. Are you driven by ambition and a fiery spirit, akin to the Fire Nation? Do you prioritize harmony, spirituality, and the ebb and flow of life like the Water Tribes? Does your unwavering resolve and grounded disposition mirror the qualities of the Earth Kingdom? Or are you a free spirit, embracing spontaneity and living in the moment, embodying the Air Nomad way?
The assessment not only reveals your elemental affiliation but also provides a comprehensive personality profile, offering valuable insights into your strengths, weaknesses, and fundamental motivations. Understanding your inner element can help you navigate life's challenges with greater self-awareness and make choices aligned with your authentic self.

The Wisdom of the Four Nations

Each of the four elemental nations in Avatar: The Last Airbender holds profound lessons and guiding principles that can enrich our lives, regardless of our bending affiliation.
  1. The Fire Nation reminds us of the power of passion, drive, and the courage to forge our own paths, even in the face of adversity. Ambition and determination are vital forces that propel us towards our goals, but they must be tempered with wisdom and compassion.
  2. The Water Tribes teach us the value of adaptability, empathy, and going with the flow of life's currents. By embracing change and cultivating emotional intelligence, we can navigate challenges with grace and find harmony amidst the ever-shifting tides.
  3. The Earth Kingdom's unwavering resilience and connection to the land instill a deep respect for tradition, loyalty, and perseverance. In a world of constant upheaval, these qualities provide a grounding force, reminding us of the importance of roots and steadfast commitment.
  4. The Air Nomads' philosophy of freedom, detachment, and living in the present moment offers a liberating perspective. By embracing impermanence and letting go of attachments, we can find joy in the here and now, cultivating a lightness of being that transcends material concerns.
Embracing the diversity and wisdom of these elemental nations can help us lead more balanced, purposeful, and fulfilling lives, fostering personal growth and deeper connections with ourselves and others.

2024.05.21 08:30 Extreme_Ad7381 Is there any way that it would make for a fantasy medieval society to advance to an industrial-cyberpunk type civilization?

This question is not specific to any one story. What inspired this is rewatching Avatar The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra and how that world transitioned into a more modern society. I have a more difficult time seeing a more traditional and mature fantasy story doing the same, but I also think that the idea of combining fantasy aspects like dragons with steam power would be interesting. The in-between, I'm not sure about.

2024.05.21 08:24 Sasha0503 Raspberry+digiView or Walksnail avatar VRX?

Hi, so my goal is to be able to sit at home and control my fpv with a ground station outside. I already have a such thing for my analog fpv.
Now I have a new fpv with o3 system and DJI goggles v2. And I see two options for building a ground station: 1) put my goggles outside, connect them to raspberry pi 5 via USB type C with the digiView on it and lastly connect it to the tv inside my house with HDMI 2) buy a walksnail avatar VRX, put it outside and connect it with HDMI to the tv or some goggles
Which one you think will be more usable? (Meaning better signal, less latency etc.)

2024.05.21 08:10 Physical_Bedroom5656 [Avatar the Last Airbender] How would the fire nation react if an earth kingdom noble offered to defect to the fire nation?

Let's say some petty lord or king such as King Bumi of Omashu offered to join the fire nation in the Ozai era of the Hundred Year War: Would they be able to do so, or would Ozai's government despise the traitor and remove them from power? IRL, many empires were aided by local collaborators, and I was wondering if the same applies in the Avatar world.
