I’m looking for my first gbbr, basic info, based out of colorado, all prices in USD. so far I’ve been led to the guns modify complete mws urgi (https://www.sixmm.com/collections/tokyo-marui-mws-gbb-systemgbbproducts/guns-modify-complete-urg-i-airsoft-gbb-riflegei-markingmws-systemlevel-214-5inchddc?variant=42480470753537) because of the steel trigger group and the rail, but one it’s $600 and two I’m a lefty and would rather not spend even more money on an Ambi mag catch (I’ve tried standard and it doesn’t work for me). Obviously I want something pretty damn good that is feild ready otb not worried about accuracy and range too much, planing to get some tnt stuff from a buddy. and shoots under 1.5 j with .32s (I don’t know the conversion to fps with .20s) and under $500 and under $70 per mag and available in states, I’ve looked at the reinforced western arms stuff on Evike, those are ideal price but I’m not sold on the quality and if they’re any good and I know that price won’t get me much. I love urgi builds but most I’ve seen have terrible hopup adjustment. I prefer shorter guns and smgs, a 14.5 is doable but my happy place is 10.5, I’m stuck on the mws for dat after market but my budget doesn’t allow for the upgrades, what matters most to me is range and accuracy and I can get that from anything, as stated the plan is to throw tnt stuff in so if it’s compatible with that it’d be nice.
Guns I like so far in no particular orde Vfc bcmr but lacks ambi Guns modify urgi complete mws over budget and lacks ambi Double Eagle western arms system (solely for price) Kwa/ vfc mp7 Kwa radian model one (ambi dream but heard not good things)
So first gbbr requirements are as follows
Feild ready otb preforms well ambi mag catch at least, ambi selector and mag catch is preferable Under 1.5j with .32s otb or easy to find cheap low power peices or npas Max budget for gun is $500, budget friendly would be nice but I know how it goes, get what you pay for Mags available and easy to find for under $70 Room to upgrade (tnt bucking barrel, airseal, trigger work) Good hopup adjustment Available in states Good parts availability to fix any problems
I know it’s a lot and that’s why I’m looking for help, any and all is appreciated

Stimulants

Adderall

A mix of amphetamine salts. One of the primary medications used for ADHD in the US. There's not a lot to be said about this beside the fact that it's likely the first drug that will be prescribed to you if you are diagnosed with ADHD and you are in the US. Because it increases the norepinephrine in your system you may find that it increases your anxiety, it may bring on panic attacks or it may increase their frequency. This is where it would be worth adding in Clonidine in particular. Other options are to switch to Modafinil, or to add in Atomoxetine or Guanfacine while reducing the dose of Adderall.
If you find that your heart rate is significantly increased when using Adderall then you should speak to your doctor about getting a Clonidine or Guanfacine prescription as either of these will reduce your heart rate.
Avoid consuming acidic foods, drinks, or vitamin C within one hour of taking Adderall. Also avoid taking antacids within one hour of taking Adderall.

Dexamphetamine (Dexedrine)

Dexamphetamine is a pure amphetamine drug rather than a combination of salts like Adderral is however all other info above about Adderall applies to Dexamphetamine.
Dexamphetamine is short acting and this may require taking it three or four times per day which can be onerous. The peaks and troughs of such a short-effect medication can cause spikes of anxiety or mood disturbances. In these situations it may be preferable to use lisdexamphetamine instead, although lisdexamphetamine is still patented medication (until February 2023, likely the first generic will enter the market in August 2023) which makes it a much more expensive option.

Lisdexamphetamine (Vyvanse, Elvanse)

Lisdexamphetamine is a prodrug, meaning that it is metabolized in your system and it breaks down into dexamphetamine. This makes it last longer in your system and it means that it is not affected by acidic foods, drinks, or antacids. All other info above about Adderall applies to Lisdexamphetamine.
Often an instant release stimulant is prescribed as an afternoon top-up dose to go along with Lisdexamphetamine to ease the rebound effect as the Lisdexamphetamine wears off.
Due to lisdexamphetamine being a molecule which is dexamphetamine combined with lysine, it's much heavier than pure dexamphetamine. This means that you need to take roughly 3x as much lisdexamphetamine to get the same effect as you would per gram of dexamphetamine (e.g. 30mg of lisdexamphetamine is roughly equivalent to 10mg of dexamphetamine)

Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta)

Methylphenidate is the other most commonly prescribed stimulant. Note that combining Methylphenidate with Dexamphetamine will reduce the effectiveness because of a conflict with the mechanism of action. ^[1]
Methylphenidate is less likely to be effective than dexamphetamine or Adderall however it is also less likely to cause side effects so if this is a concern for you then methylphenidate may be the right medication for your needs.

Desoxyn

Desoxyn is methamphetamine and is illegal to prescribe in many countries. Due to stigma, this medication is rarely prescribed.

Modafinil (Provigil, Modvigil, Modalert)

Modafinil is a stimulant drug that has a mechanism of action that is yet to be understood. It appears to be useful for treating ADHD and, going by anecdotal evidence, it seems most effective for Primarily Inattentive-type ADHD. As this medication often has less effect on heart rate and does not have the same norepinephrinergic effects, this may be a suitable alternative to consider for ADHDers who struggle with anxiety, panic attacks, and those who have significant trauma history or those who cannot tolerate the norepinephrinergic effects of other stimulant medications.
 

Alpha α2 agonists

Guanfacine (Tenex, Intuniv)

Guanfacine should be considered to be an adjunct medication however in some cases it is used in monotherapy successfully. Guanfacine reduces blood pressure and mitigates the norepinephrinergic effects of stimulant medications, making it ideal as an ADHD medication. In excess, however, a person may feel as though they are "flat" and as if they are unable to get started on things due to a deficit in norepinephrine in their brain. This is easily addressed by lowering the dose until these side effects have subsided. Guanfacine is understood to attenuate signals in the brain and thus it can be used to enhance the effects of stimulants, meaning that you can reduce the overall amount of stimulants you are taking if you combine it with Guanfacine or, if you cannot tolerate the side effects of a higher stimulant dose, you can incorporate Guanfacine into your medication regime to boost the effectiveness of the stimulant.

Clonidine (Catapres)

Clonidine works in a similar way to Guanfacine although it does not attenuate signals in the brain. It is more useful for people with a history of trauma and those who suffer from anxiety or panic attacks, especially due to stimulant medications. Clonidine is unlikely to work effectively in monotherapy however. Personally Clonidine has been exceptionally useful for me in treating my Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, trauma nightmares, and anxiety.
 

Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors

Because these are antidepressants, each of these will require a gradual process of tapering up on the dose and it will likely require a couple of weeks at the correct dose before the effects will be noticeable.
There are often side effects that come with antidepressants, in particular when you are first starting on them.

Atomoxetine (Strattera)

Atomoxetine is an unusual Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor in that it only works in particular regions in the brain, making it ideal for ADHDers. Often there are significant side effects with this medication, especially when tapering up, and the medication is not always tolerable for people however it can be particularly useful for people who are sensitive to the norepinephrinergic effects of stimulant medications (e.g. for those who can only tolerate very low doses of stimulants) and those who cannot use stimulants due to heart conditions or substance use disorder etc. While it can be effective in monotherapy, Atomoxetine is most often used in combination with other medications. It usually takes a few weeks at the appropriate dosage range before the positive effects are noticeable.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban)

Bupropion is a Norepinephrine-Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor, although its effects on dopamine are weak. As it's an antidepressant it takes a few weeks at the appropriate dosage range before the effects are noticeable and there is a narrow evidence base supporting its use for ADHD.

Viloxazine (Qelbree)

Seems promising as an alternative to atomoxetine.

Reboxetine (Edronax)

Venlafaxine (Effexor)

Higher doses required to get dopaminergic effects.

Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq)

Duloxetine (Cymbalta)

Need to be at 60mg per day to get norepinephrinergic effects. Also useful for anxiety and pain relief.

Buspirone (Buspar)

Works on dopamine as well as serotonin and norepinephrine. Useful for anxiety.
 

Others

Memantine (Namenda)

There is evidence suggesting that Memantine is useful for reducing symptoms of inattention, memory problems, hyperactivity, restlessness, impulsivity, and emotional lability in ADHDers. Memantine is also being researched for its use in autism and may be useful for autistic burnout/autistic catatonia.

Selegiline (Emsam, Eldepryl)

Selegiline is a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor that increases dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin in the brain.

Aripiprazole

Cariprazine

An antipsychotic that targets the D3 receptor specifically and may be particularly useful for major depressive disorder, bipolar depression, and treatment-resistant depression. Works as a partial agonist meaning that if your dopamine levels are intrinsically low at the D3 receptor then it will increase your dopamine levels. Known to be very activating. A very long half-life on this medication so it may be something which you start taking once every second morning before increasing the dose.

Previous owner said it stopped working so i checked inside, nothing wrong, added a touch of grease where needed. The tamiya was bad so i replaced with s deans. Greetings airsoft modders, I have been trying to finish a Trigger Responde build on a G&G ARP 9, thus investing on a ultra torque motor like the Chihai 28 TPA 19k rpm (at 11.1v) to pair with SHS 13:1 Gears, Aster V2 ETU, Ball bearings (7mm), 14 Teeth Metal Piston and SHS airseal set (cylinder head, Piston head, air nozzle), a M110 spring (shs, but it kinda sucks), and metal spring guider. I got everything to fit but the motor which doesnt seem to have a matching working pinion head. Replacing pinion heads requires specific gear, and can become expensive if not done by a friendly airsoft shop/mechanic. Does anyone have had any experience picking pinion heads that match SHS's gears and fit thru the pistol grip hole that go into the G&G gearbox without having to do gearbox changes? I cant understand why it doesnt fit, if the main shaft's width is the culprit here, because I dont get the motor to adjust deep inside de pistol grip, as it doesnt do a similar springy tension as the original motor does. It can also be the pinion head's diameter which is too large and doesnt suit the gear dents. Sorry for the convuluted question but I am a modding newbie and someone else might have had this issue already. If people have experience with this motor and other common brand Gearboxes, please write down what alterations you had to do to the gearbox to house this motor in so other modders also get help if they are a fitting issue. This is a new motor on the market but I believe it is a really good and nicely priced one. TIA

Section 1: The GHK lottery

READ FIRST

1a. GHK QC issues 101, AK Roulette

Congrats! You've bought your first GHK AK. Before you sink money into your AK, you'll want to check your AK's receiver quality. Listed from critical items to QoLs, which happens to be chronologically ordered.
QC issues 2020 onwards
i) Misaligned front trunnion, jammed hop dial Check whether your bucking is pinched and if the feed ramp screws are tight. You may notice that your feed ramp is not aligned with your hop unit. Your front trunnion is defective because GHK cut the hop unit alignment grooves or barrel threads too high/too low. Your nozzle and hop unit aren't level with each other causing feeding issues and there's no fixing this without unriveting the whole front trunnion. P.S. if there's a gap under the feed ramp, this might be salvageable
Existing QC issues pre-2019
ii) Jammed hop dial The cutout for the dial off-spec and isnt deep enough to seat anything other than the original plastic dial. Good luck filing the trunnion down since it's made of steel. In some cases it's because the screw holes were drilled wrong and does not align with the feedramp which can't be fixed. comradequiche's TDC mod is a workaround
iii) Front trunnion (again) - drooped/Saggy barrel Your outer barrel may be drooping or in rare cases angled sideways. GHK cut your outer barrel threads at an angle, you'll have to compensate your aim
iv) Wobbly stock Your rear trunnion rivets are loose, shimming the "tail" of the fixed trunnion won't fix this as the play comes from the loose rivets pivoting off each other
v) Loose side dovetail Your dovetail mounted optic ain't gonna hold 0 no matter how much you tighten the sucker down due to either loose riveting as with the rear trunnion or off-spec rivet holes
vi) Nozzle valve spring QC GHK used some cheap chinesium springs. Standard-1.5J and High Power-1.8J nozzle clocks anywhere between 1.2-1.8J on AKM length inner barrel that you'd question if you bought the wrong nozzle but haven't actually.
vii) Shoots <1J with any of the nozzles Plausible cause is that the rivet holes for your front trunnion are punched too far out leading to a poor airseal. No fix available
Other QC issues
Wide receiver (2021 onwards) Recent AKs seemed to be manufactured incorrectly as the stamped steel is not folded correctly causing the autosear and firing crosspin to dislodge. This fault also causes the BCG to rattle sideways as a result.
A very obvious sign is the dislodged autosear itself as the receiver is too wide, in some cases GHK did put in an extra e-clip on that crosspin to shim the autosear laterally so that the autosear spring stays on the autosear.

Section 2: Internals

2a. Hopup, inner barrels

Stock hop design is inherently weak as GHK made the tensioner a round dot so that the dial would not grip onto the rubber dot and allow it to rotate. This is a poor compromise as the geometry of this round nub could not apply sufficient force onto the hop bucking resulting in poor performance at lower power. Upgrading the hop group is absolutely necessary if you're skirmishing with a setup under 2J
TNT hop unit - Best setup for builds above 1.3J, though expensive it is very reliable when it works. The system is proprietary but there's no extra tinkering or fitting needed, just plug and play. If it doesn't fit you probably lost the GHK lottery. Quiche's TDC for stock hop should work for this.
A+ old gen - A+ uses a proprietary book(?) shaped patch and TDC'd from factory. This unit is very accurate 2nd only to FG hop as the best hopup oob. The alignment issues mentioned on arniesairsoft is quite valid however as there are no alignment tabs, but will not elaborate further as this is unfortunately no longer in production so you can't get one anyways
A+ new gen - New gen replaces the TDC with a dial option with proper alignment winglets in line with the other hopups. Still incredibly accurate as the A+ hopup geometry is just that good. This unit is assembled from factory and sealed with glue, installing it is trickier than the other units. I'm gonna avoid recommending this unit for now since owners here have reported difficulty in getting it installed and working correctly
Maple Leaf hop unit - (Supposedly) The most consistent oob hop unit due to an enlarged rotary dial diameter and larger contact surface area of the tensioner nub. However, bucking is a proprietary derivative of the autobot/monster design and your barrel options are limited to CrazyJets and a few others utilizing a M14 AEG cut which reaaalllly doesn't work well in this system. See other pinned post on fitting this hop unit
FG hopup - Yea we don't talk about this because it's gone.
Guillotine hopup - Successor to the FG, WIP. Uses standard GBB/VSR buckings but you will have to trim the indexing notch or carve out your feed ramp slightly
Bowmaster = Prowin = RA-Tech = GBL Ironman - These are just reinforced parts of the stock chamber design thus you are still bottlenecked by the poor performance of the nub, while the I/H-key that the Ironman comes with doesn't work well due to the short length of the key. The advantage of this setup is that you can run any AEG spec inner barrel including PDI barrels. HOWEVER. This setup is GODLY if you can get hold of comradequiche's TDC mod and pair it with the PDI W-Hold 70D. We do not talk about running this hop unit with the original hop dial as it is garbage. Note that the BM unit is a hair wider than the other units and doesn't seal as well
Of the 4 manufacturers, only the BM comes with a steel inner barrel c-clip. This steel clip is a very essential upgrade if you're running the original zinc alloy outer barrel as the original plastic clip sits loose. If you've upgraded to the steel outer barrel, note that the steel c-clip might be a very tight fit

2b. Nozzle units

RA-Tech Magnetic NPAS - Absolutely get one of these. 10 years since the GHK AK was released we finally have a NPAS and it needed to be good. Some redundant aspects of the original nozzle design was removed and the output of the NPAS is very stable. NPAS setting holds well due to the newer magnetic locking design, but do note that the NPAS works better for power settings above 1.3J. The NPAS is not very precise when adjusted under 1.3J, best use joule creep to compensate when under the optimal power range. Do note that the NPAS is vulnerable to tight BCG tolerances; see my review on the GHK NPAS
TNT high flow nozzle - Nothing too special about these, the spring isn't as shite as the GHK one but TNT hasn't made any other design improvements otherwise. Get the NPAS instead.
Prowin high flow nozzle - Long discontinued, these were released all the way back when tolerances were better. In general, aluminium nozzles will destroy your gas router or hop bucking if misaligned so avoid.
GHK GKM-08 - These are rated 1J, 1.5J and 1.8J on propane / green gas (12kg) with a full length 410mm inner barrel. Actual power is lower on the 74U and 105. If you're running a 105 my recommendation is to leverage on joule creep to achieve the target power of 1.5-1.6J. For the 74U it is quite tricky to hit 1.5J exactly so you may also try the joule creep in conjunction with running red (14kg) or black (18kg) gas
GHK GKM-08-NA - These are the non-sealed versions of the nozzles so that users could tune the power by putting in their own nozzle spring or padding the nozzle valve with o-rings. Don't be fooled, this is an inferior product as the airseal is compromised and will leak through the seam where it wasn't glued. Only use this if you need to tune your AK to shoot at extremely high power limits with the use of a strong nozzle spring.

2c. Recoil Guide rods

W&S Full travel kit WS00014 - Most premium of all the guide rods as it is a steel tube. Comes bundled with a steel hammer to use with the W&S full travel BCG. Although marketed as a full travel guide rod, you could use it for half travel by inserting a long 2nd stage spring behind the main spring to reduce the travel. If you're feeling adventurous you could even do a triple-stage recoil. For the W&S BCG, you may opt for a short 2nd stage spring instead to increase RoF
Hephaestus 2 piece recoil spring guide - Doesn't really emulate the authentic recoil guide as this is still a short stroke guide, and more often than not causes the dust cover to not lock correctly. Give this "upgrade" a skip if you were hoping for a performance upgrade
W&S GHK AK Rapid Fire Set for half travel WS00023 - Avoid this like the plague, this is false marketing from W&S and it will cause stoppages on your half travel BCG. The bumper spring attached to the base of the recoil guide post is not long enough causing the half-travel BCG to do a little more than half-travel. The guide rails will chew away at the BCG guide winglets and eventually causing it to partially dislodge from the BCG guide rails causing the BCG to seize up. The inherent issue is that the half-travel BCG was never designed to and should never be allowed to do full-travel. This recoil guide should only be used with the full-travel BCG to increase the inherently low RoF.
Stock recoil spring guide - If you want to increase the RoF of your half travel BCG, you may put in some nylon spacers at the end of the spring guide to reduce the travel needed for the spring to reach maximal compression. You don't even need to punch out the pin to remove the wire guide, you can just rotate the recoil spring guide and pop it off the wire guide and the spring will come right off. Slide nylon spacers in place and replace the spring and spring guide.

2d. BCGs

Switching to a steel BCG is necessary if you plan to use any charging handle extensions as the stock pot metal BCG charging handle will snap not being strong enough to withstand the recoil impulse generated from the extension.

Note that it is recommended to upgrade your fire control group to steel prior to installing a steel BCG as mismatched metal hardness will cause to the harder metal to erode the softer pot metal.

Hephaestus steel BCG, Hephaestus recoil power kit - Drop in replacement for your original BCG and the only replacement that the original recoil guide can handle. It is only marginally heavier than the stock BCG as Hephaestus has skeletonized the internals to cut weight to maintain the same gas efficiency and RoF. Do note that the tolerances might be tighter than the stock BCG causing some fitting issues with the NPAS. Hephaestus' own recoil guide kit will fit their BCG and the stock BCG to further increase the weight of the BCG group should you wish to add that extra recoil.
W&S full-travel BCG, W&S recoil power kit - Replacing your half-travel BCG with the full-travel will require you to swap your recoil spring guide and hammer to the W&S in order to support the full-travel; preferably your entire fire control group should be homogenous from W&S. The full-travel BCG reduces the RoF due to its significant weight, resulting in some owners having to install a bumper spring on their recoil guide to restore their RoF. Do note that the threading of the W&S recoil guides are different to the stock and Hephaestus ones and will only fit their own BCG. The inner diameter is slightly larger and may require you to replace your nozzle o-ring.
BowMaster recoil guide plug BOW-BMC05 - Avoid like plague, BM made this piston head so big with barely any clearance into the gas tube which will seize up in an AK with subpar tolerances.

2e. FCG Kits & Triggers -

Rule #1 of upgrading the FCG, don't do partial upgrades or mix between the different manufacturers. The tolerances on the hammer-firing pin are different and will cause NDs when hammer is primed due to insufficient retraction of the firing pin. W&S full-travel hammer, firing pin, their tolerances. Hephaestus parts, their own tolerances vice versa.

Hephaestus 4p FCG set + triggers – The standard FCG upgrade for the half-travel BCG, generally the most consistent upgrade but the parts could use some deburring in some cases. The newer 1-piece trigger comes in ALG, EKG or Russian style and the angle of the trigger has been optimized from the old 2-piece trigger.
W&S FCG parts, 1p trigger – Go for these parts if you’re using the W&S BCG as the hammer is designed differently to allow “full-travel”. The hammer catch is single hook as opposed to Hephaestus’ double hook and also comes with an uprated trigger reset spring.
BowMaster Steel Disconnector(Sear), 2p trigger, 130% spring set – The BM trigger felt crap compared to the Hephaestus’ ALG style due to its narrow beam and the disconnector has different tolerances. This part was only relevant prior to the release of the 1p triggers from Hep because it came with a steel hammer catch. The Groza could still use this part but otherwise give it a skip over the Hephaestus set. Install the 130% spring set at your own risk
TJC, TMC/SCG FCG parts – The TJC set and the TMC/SCG parts appears to be a copy of the W&S or comes from the same OEM. Neither TJC nor TMC/SCG offers the corresponding full-travel BCG so I suspect these might be B-grade goods given a branding. These may need modding to work correctly.
Daytona Steel upgrade – The very exclusive but also the only comprehensive and complete upgrade set for the platform that has its own piston guide, recoil guide post, BCG, buffer block, FCG, trigger, cutoff lever and even selector paddle. Owners have noted that the modular trigger feels shite and the kit is overpriced which even Daytona acknowledges

Section 3: Externals & RS compatibility

3a. RS compatibility

Externals Front sight block - Depends on your barrel profile. 4a. Magazine options

Standard magazines 5.45 Magazines Bog standard mags that are shipped with the AK74 and 100 series. Lately these are observed to be overtorqued from either user error or factory which results in a compromised valve or groove that causes gas leaks. Internal parts are mostly not user-serviceable however so you need to replace the mags entirely if it isn't just a faulty valve. These mags are quite heavy but they fit most mag pouches if you are already setup for 556s. Realism wise, these mags are not clone correct as they're missing the reinforcement ribs. Performance wise these seem to seal the best with the nozzle due to the molded notch on the magazine case. I really want to like these mags but they have the aforementioned issues and GHK has never really bothered to update the design. The orange mags have a niche audience for being good candidates for fakelite finish but is gross otherwise.
7.62 Steel mags Good for larping, as with the 5.45 mag not many serviceable internals parts. Hard pass for skirmishing as these mags are heavy. These mags may be hard to rock in correctly due to the shallower lugs. Mag pouch options are scarce other than chest rigs, also don't use with kydex or any kind of rigid polymer inserts as these steel mags will eat them up.
GMAGs Lightweight Magpul style 7.62 mags that are 100% user serviceable, but highest initial costs. These mags need some break-in on the rear locking lug but generally a better option than the steel mags. The magazine gas router doesn't seal as well with the nozzle unfortunately due to a single front lug on the magazine case so the power output of these mags are generally lower than the 5.45 polys. Finding good magazine pouches that work for these mags are a total bitch however.

The AW drum has a weakness in the winding mechanism which breaks from normal use and has to be serviced. Note - AW's marketing lead informed me explicitly that this is not an authorized collaboration, hence the double whammy in price because you're paying ESD's R&D markup on top of the AW drum base which was sourced from third parties. There is no warranty provided from AW for the BB/RWA pre-assembled drum mag so check with them for their warranty policy. Buying the ESD adapter and installing it yourself also voids any warranty, so unless you find a cheap preowned AW drum and buy the ESD adapter as a fun little project I couldn't recommend this product over the KA Drum

4c. RA-Tech NPAS + guide

• Absolutely get at least one Type III nozzle with the jointed adjustment key. The Type II can only adjust the NPAS when field stripped
• NPAS clicks are very tactile and audible
• The supplied o-ring is slightly oversized, but I suspect it accounts for the o-ring contracting when cooling down
• RA-tech has done away with the redundant secondary o-ring
• The perforations on the piston face are reduced to 6 holes but are enlarged ensuring a more reliable expansion of the o-ring when extending
• NPAS adjustment is unfortunately not linear when you tune it near the maximal setting. Between 1.35J and 1.55J I've had at least 12 increments available, while the power drops an entire 0.1J per increment after that threshold. This is likely a limitation with the platform's gas system rather than a design fault with the NPAS
• Power however is very stable, tested with 12kg RWA gas at 15C, 0.28g, ~210mm A+ hop&barrel group. Maximum power is 1.6J, goes all the way under to 0.9J and lower

Notes * Clockwise turns retract the nozzle valve to delay the cutoff * Counterclockwise turns to extend the nozzle valve to cutoff early * Nozzle return spring mod will not be possible with this nozzle as there isn't anywhere to anchor the spring to, nor was this nozzle designed to be disassembled * The pin in the nozzle is a small 1mm roll pin, I don't think most owners will have the right punch to remove this for a complete disassembly
PSA The nozzle sits very tight with 0 vertical play when completely retracted. Receivers with a slightly misaligned feed ramp will not be able to go into battery, but in some cases this is probably because your BCG has tighter tolerances

4d. Maple Leaf hop

1.1) NEVER file the alignment winglets. If your unit's alignment wings appear to be slightly offset towards the bottom of the unit, this is normal. The two winglets are not coaxial to the bore.
The way to know if you have lost the GHK lottery is if you have to take a mallet to the unit to go in and installing the feed ramp is difficult. Otherwise, it's probably just your c-clip not seated correctly
But seriously, it's most likely the c-clip because you can check by seating the hop unit in place without installing the inner barrel
1.2) The ML unit is very sharp so if it's shaving material off your nylon feed ramp, you probably have a minor misalignment. As long as you can install the feed ramp without forcing it in however, it should still feed.
2) NEVER file the c-clip. If you have issues getting the clip to seat flush, you've probably deformed it by failing to seat it into the groove correctly in your previous attempts. Crimp/bend the c-clip inwards and try again
3) The ML dial is more prone to getting jammed than the other hop units by design due to the way it interfaces with the trunnion. If you're getting a jammed dial but an otherwise perfectly good alignment you may want to consider the TDC mod to circumvent this issue
4) If your BBs are rolling out you probably haven't applied sufficient hop. You need at least on average 30% dial to get any grip on just 0.2g, higher for heavier weights and bucking hardness
5) The hotshot bucking is a magnet for silicone oil if you're using infused propellants and is prone to contraction in cold conditions. Consider using the slightly less grippy but more resilient coolshot bucking as an alternative

a) Should I run this unit? What are the specs of the system? The TNT hop buckings are 60D but is well suited for configurations from 1.3J. Hop isn't stable for sub 1.3J and we don't really know why

e) Which inner barrels will fit? TNT, Unicorn, SLONG, A+, Falcon, Poseidon with the AEG window. Specifically, it's a modified M14 groove, Maple Leaf uses the same groove but they only have GBB windows. Also stay away from Poseidon and SLONG like plague
f) What is the correct order to install this unit? Barrel in, o-ring on, slide hop on, seat the bucking, seat the hop, secure set screws, seat into trunnion, tensioner nub on, dial on, feed ramp on
g) My shots are curving, what gives? Please torque the two set screws on the unit evenly and ensure that the barrel is oriented correctly. 1 or 2 degrees of tilt should be fine but if you're curving you've probably exceeded that threshold. Do note that the two set screws are wider than the groove so it is normal to see "bite marks"
h) Signs of a lost lottery AK Signs of scuffing along the top of the unit, or if you're getting a dent at the top of the front of the unit
i) Other tips? Use purple, NOT BLUE threadlock on the set screws. If you've lost your nub, cut a new one from a pen barrel or generic nylon thread

Hey guys! I'm in the market for a pair of work boots and I've been having a lot of trouble finding a good pair. They need to be on par with logger boots, so 8' tall, cut resistant, and non-slip. April of 2021 will be the 2 year anniversary of when I received my MAS Marauder and I figured this would be a good of a time as any to give a bit of a review of my experiences with the AEG. Quite a few people on the subreddit recommend the rifle but first hand experiences are somewhat limited considering that MAS is a relatively small airsoft company that doesn't have remotely the market share of ICS, LCT, VFC, CYMA, Lancer (shudders), or any of the other big names in the airsoft industry. Because I do indeed have quite a bit of hands on time with the AEG, it might be worth while to give my 2 cents about the Marauder.
My Marauder in its current condition
The Purchase
So when I ordered the rifle, I had to process the payment through paypal and it took 7 days for it to arrive at my home in Virginia. In this purchase I also ordered 2x 7.4v lipo batteries which brought the total up to the $300 CAD free shipping threshold. Didn't have any issue with customs and with this being precovid there wasn't any extended delays in processing or shipping times.
When the rifle arrived it was packaged in a rather basic cardboard box with a simplistic cardboard "tray" that is made of the cardboard like material you often see drink trays from fast food places (it does the job but not fancy in the slightest). The rifle itself was exactly how it was pictured on the web sight but with the bird cage flash hider having a thick orange paint slapped on it to comply with US toy gun standards. The AEG had no visible damage to it but the free floating outer barrel was a bit loose as in it could wobble side to side some. At the time I didn't do anything to fix it but later I would just need to periodically re tighten the grub screws that held on the outer barrel (I should probably secure it with some lock tight). Grub screws that hold on the outer barrel that needed tightening Also I must note that the metal high cap that it was suppose to come with was missing in the package. I contacted MAS and they quickly shipped out the mag with no questions asked which arrived within a few days.
The Exterior
Right away I will say I was not a fan of the stock and the flip up iron sights that came with the Marauder. The stock (has the markings Magpul CTR CAGE1LX50 molded into the polymer) didn't really have a big battery compartment which limited the size of battery you could use and the way you had to open the internal compartment put wear on the polymer tabs that secured the battery compartment and eventually one of the tabs broke (after 6 months or so of usage). Also with the retractable stock, it didn't fully fit the battery when fully compacted so it had to be extended by a notch to avoid smashing the battery or its cables. This wouldn't of been a big deal except that the locking mechanic on the stock wasn't the most solid so a hard impact could force it to retract. This occurred one time which resulted in one of my lipos getting smashed and what appeared to start to puff a bit. Now ultimately this is me being a bit picky about the stock as I prefer having a much larger storage capacity for some big boy batteries (spoiled from using stuff like my FAMAS, L85 Carbine, M14, RPK, and my wife's AK which all have some roomy battery storage areas). I ended up buying a VFC QRS stock for the rifle as I preferred its battery access and the way it more securely sets its length :side note that the QRS stock is not as ideal as it could of been with its battery capacity space due it some…. artistic choices made in the shape of the internal storage. I would probably go with a PTS EPS stock instead.
Simply put I did not like the flip up irons that came with the rifle but fortunately they are detachable so I quickly decided to remove them and just always run some type of scope or red dot (as I had planned to do anyways). I don't know irons very well so perhaps its just me but they did not appeal to me at all where as I could see myself using the irons on my RPK, M14 (I really like the irons on it), or even the FAMAS's peek hole sights. The quality on the irons themselves seemed fine but a bit stiff to flip up.
The iron sights, flash hider, and stock
The Marauder has an aluminum M-Lok handguard (with pic rails on the top) which is well made but not the most comfortable to hold without something like a grip (I prefer an angled grip). The receiver body is made of polymer but its that glass filled/nylon type polymer body which is a good mix of durable, light weight, while feeling solid and not toy like. The pic rails that are on top of the receiver are also made of this polymer but I have had zero issues with the rail taking any damage or it not being strong enough to securely mount an optic. The charging handle on the Marauder did eventually stop wanting to fully return back to its closed point after about a year of usage which I believe is due to the spring being stretched or something but it didn't negatively impact the function of the AEG. I just have to push the charging handle forward about half an inch to get it to lock closed (but its very secure when closed). Where the charging handle springs back to Everything else is fairly standard M4 stuff but I will say that thankfully the flash hider was just screwed on so it required no effort to remove it and replace with something less orange.
The Internals
I will say right off the bat that I have not opened the gearbox because I have not had any reason to go digging in there. Shimming seemed fine out of the box and the airseal was good with the usual +/- 3-5 FPS fluctuation between shots so it never warranted opening the gearbox and letting the magical maple dust out of the gearbox. Honestly after dealing with the nightmare that was my FAMAS's gearbox, I wanted an AEG that I could take out and use without feeling like I needed to redo the gearbox internals so the Marauder did that job perfectly. It has a 13:1 gear set and it has a high torque neodymium motor which give it a rather nice and snappy trigger response. The hopup is a prowin/shs style hopup chamber that is made of blue polymer and came with a fairly standard bucking and nub. The stock inner barrel that it came with was roughly a 330mm brass barrel but I don't know the diameter. I think the spring was probably around an M100 or M110 as it shot roughly around 350fps with .20s before changing the inner barrel (memory is a bit fuzzy on what it was shooting before upgrades so those numbers might not be exact).
So over the history of using the AEG I made a few modifications to the rifle to fit my personal tastes and gameplay style. Firstly I opted to go with a flat hop at first to help it hop heavier BBs such as .32s but then eventually installed an R hop. One thing I noticed was that it seems like it has an unported cylinder but with only a 330mm barrel, it was over voluming which was causing the AEG to not gain much FPS when changing out the spring. I added a mock suppressor and installed a 450mm inner barrel (currently a ZCI 6.02mm steel barrel) to help take advantage of the voluming that existed in the cylinder which caused roughly a 30 fps increase before changing the spring. I installed a M125 spring a little over a year ago in it which it has easily handled and it currently shoots at around 1.55 joules.
Note that this AEG is wired to deans. Generally your not going to find NiMH's wired for deans so your more than likely are going to need to use lipo batteries. This is not really an issue except that for new airsofters buying a reliable balanced charger is more expensive than a smart charger and lipos require more care and attention than the more foolproof NiMH's.
The Performance
Out of the box it has a really good trigger response and RoF even when using 7.4v lipos. The Marauder has operated smoothly throughout its history with the only operational issues I've ran into being with the bucking and nub sometimes causing a BB to jam if I apply too much hopup pressure but that is with the R hop and not really a thing I encountered with the stock setup. Accuracy out of the box wasn't great but I believe that was due in part to the loose outer barrel causing the inner barrel to wobble between shots (and probably a dirty inner barrel). This improved with a new inner barrel and me properly securing the outer barrel to eliminate that shot to shot spread. Range was always respectable which has improved with using a combination of heavier BBs, R hop, and improving the barrel (tight bore, longer to match the cylinder volume better, and better barrel finish). In its 100% stock configuration it was easily able to handle .28s but I didn't try using heavier BBs until after I installed the flat hop (then later a R hop).
The Longevity
The thing about the Marauder is that it continues to operate exactly how it should. The externals (minus the stock) have held up quite well and the internals are reliable even with a stronger spring installed. Nothing about the rifle outside of the charging handle spring has shown any wear and the this has by far been the AEG that I have fielded the most. Simply put it just works (and not in the Todd Howard sort of way). The aluminium hanguard rail has had only the tiniest bits of paint wear which is mostly due to attaching and removing things like my scope camera. The polymer receiver and top rail sections have seen no noticeable wear (I have a riser installed to allow for any optic to view over my scope camera and make looking down sights while wearing face protection easier).
The Mags
So basically I didn't really end up using the stock mag for more than a game because I didn't like they fit into the mag well. It needed a bit of a jiggle to get it to properly lock and it was a bit stiff to remove. I tried a Classic Army metal mag but it really didn't want to lock in and was very tight in the mag well. Got my Lonex polymer mid caps and they fit + feed like a dream. They don't drop free (which is a pro for me) but they have zero issues with locking into place which makes them very dependable. Outside of them I haven't used any other mags with my Marauder as I don't share mags with other people nor do I really want to look for any other brand of mag unless Lonex mags stops being available long term. I do believe the Marauder comes with a polymer mid cap these days instead of the metal high cap that it was sold with back in the spring of 2019.
The Verdict
I still stand by the view point that the Marauder is the current best bang for your buck AEG on the market. It shoots great out of the box, seems to handle stronger springs like a champ, and is very reliable. The accuracy issue I initially experienced was probably due to that loose outer barrel (which might have been caused by shipping) but standard AEG maintenance of cleaning the barrel and tightening down the barrel screws would of most likely initially resolved that issue on day 1. Externals complaints I had where more personal taste issues than anything inherently bad with the AEG. That said nothing about the AEG's externals felt cheap so there is still quality in the default offerings plus MAS has been offering a 2nd stock option for a while which was something that wasn't available to me when I ordered mine in the spring of 2019. Really the only true downside to the Marauder is that it’s a M4 which is a style of rifle that I REALLY don't like seeing everywhere. The fact that it has been my most used AEG over the past 2 years despite my overall dislike of AR style rifles speaks volumes of how much I enjoy the performance and reliability of this rifle. I don't really like giving number scores but I will say that I highly recommend this AEG if your looking for something that is reliable, performs great out of the box, and you are ready to use lipo batteries. Knowing everything that I know now, I would of absolutely still bought the AEG as my primary rifle due to its ability to do everything that I wanted it to do except not be a M4 (but what can you do when the airsoft industry is primarily focused on AR platforms with AKs being a moderately close 2nd).
I hope this amateur $.02 perspective is helpful to anybody looking to figure out if the Marauder is a worthwhile AEG to use. That said my Marauder was from a batch in early 2019 so its possible that parts and QC could of changed between then and whenever your reading this so take that for what its worth.

In this guide I’ll be going over things you’ll need to build your very own DSG. I’ll go over the cheap way and the expensive way, various RPS/FPS goals, etc. This guide will be updated over time. Last update 10/18/21

What is a DSG?

DSG stands for dual sector gear. This replaces your original sector gear with one that has two sets of 8 teeth (versus the stock gear, which has one set of 16 teeth). This essentially means you get two shots per gear cycle, while losing half of your air volume.

Why a DSG?

DSG builds are renowned for their near-instant trigger response and their blazing fast full auto RPS. They’re among the most challenging AEG build. Those who want the best gun on the field accept no substitute.

Things you’ll need:

DSG gear
High torque motor (16tpa or greater)
Strong spring (M150+)
Full metal rack piston
Good airseal parts
Strong gearbox (radiused)
Advanced MOSFET (optical or mechanical)
Good battery (11.1v recommended, at least 2000 mAh and 30c, the bigger the better though)
Ball bearing spring guide
Durable bushings (some bearings can work, but bushings are much more durable)
Barrel length under 300mm (can push out to 363mm with a 9-tooth DSG)
Good shimming, as well as decent AOE (no need to use a massive sorbo pad, but sometimes minor correction is necessary)

Now we’ll go over what parts are best to choose for each category.

Gears

For DSG gears, go with SHS if you’re on a budget. Go with Siegetek if you want ratios other than 18:1 or insane, mostly unnecessary durability. Siegetek also makes a 9-tooth DSG so you can correctly volume longer barrels.
It’s worth noting that the SHS DSG only works with 16:1 or 18:1 spur and bevel gears. Rocket gears are a straight-up SHS rebrand, and will work fine if SHS isn’t in stock.
2021 UPDATE: Siegetek and SHS experiencing QC issues, other brands are better but harder to find. Siegetek and SHS still aren’t terrible choices, but there are better options. I am not super knowledgeable on this, ask someone who knows more than I do or do your own research.

Motors

Almost any motor will work as long as the magnets are neodymium and it has a 16 TPA or greater armature. Motors with higher TPA are more efficient and have more torque but are slower. ZCI and ASG are both great choices. Star Wei/Tienly are the best you can get.
2021 UPDATE: for extreme performance builds, the Warhead brushless motors are great. If you want to stick with brushed, @Commander_r.cole on Instagram makes some amazing custom motors.

Springs/Spring Guides

For a spring, anything above M150 will work. As you increase in RPS, increase spring tension as well. If your DSG is faster than 50rps, use an M170 or greater, unless you have an extremely light piston and you’re just at 50.
SHS makes good ball bearing spring guides, as does Lonex. Most quick change shells come with one. You need this so your spring doesn’t bind up and wear out.
Remember, with a DSG you only have half the air volume, so you need perfect airseal (not just inside, but also outside the gearbox) and a stronger spring to get the FPS you want. A strong spring is also necessary to prevent PME at high rates of fire.

Piston

For piston, go with an SHS 15t High Speed and remove the extra teeth. May also lighten the piston to reduce risk of PME as well as lower stress on pickup tooth and gearbox. You want the lightest piston possible.
2021 UPDATE: Cyma FMR, Retro Arms and The Real Deal Airsoft pistons are all good SHS alternatives (listed in increasing order of durability). Recommend to glue the rack in and Swiss Cheese the piston.

Airseal

For airseal, make sure your piston and cylinder head are polymer, or only one is metal. A metal piston head and cylinder head together can and will crack gearboxes. Most of the time, stock parts can work well as long as the o-rings are replaced. If you need to replace the piston head, go with a POM piston head. Any Type 0 or Type 1 cylinder that seals well is a good choice. You’ll need an O-ring nozzle of the correct length for your gun—SHS has a wide variety.

Gearbox

Some stock gearboxes (Cyma, JG, VFC, etc) will work fine until you push over 50 RPS. Retro Arms and Lonex gearboxes are both good upgrade options. If you have a V3 gearbox you will probably be fine, the V3 design is a little more robust than the V2. Make sure your gearbox is radiused. DSG builds put a lot of stress on the gearbox, this part must be fairly strong.
2021 UPDATE: some users report QC issues with Retro Arms gearboxes. Bullgear makes an alternative but as of this writing it’s fairly new on the market.

MOSFETs/ETUs

There are a wide variety of MOSFETs available. The Gate Titan is the top choice for optical sensors, and the JeffTron Leviathan is the top choice for mechanical sensors. Both work quite well. However, the Leviathan is cheaper and has better quality control over the Titan, and is also easier to program. It’s not recommended to go with a basic MOSFET, as DSG builds usually have trouble maintaining semi-auto functionality using the cutoff lever system.
2021 UPDATE: Perun MOSFETs are fine for DSG builds. They will fry if you use a huge battery, and be careful with the wiring, but they are low cost and work well. Keep in mind they can only handle about 50 RPS.

Bushings

For bushings, any bushings that aren’t cross back work well. I personally love FLT bushings as the quality of their finish is amazing. Don’t go with bearings, they tend to blow out (especially on the spur gear). High quality bearings like Umbrella Armories, Magic Box or Modify Ceramics work well, but to me the decreased durability isn’t worth it.
2021 UPDATE: modern bearings can handle your typical DSG just fine. I personally like the Insidious Armory bearings. The bearing under the spur gear is what takes the most stress, so I would recommend using bushings on the spur and bearings on everything else if you’re pushing a DSG over 50 RPS or using something bigger than an M150 spring.

Barrels

Due to the loss of cylinder volume in a DSG setup, a barrel shorter than 300mm is recommended (unless you have a 9-tooth DSG). ZCI, PDI and Poseidon are all good choices, or you can leave the barrel stock. It’s also recommended to have the barrel wider than 6.01 to reduce the risk of BBs jamming.

FPS

For FPS, you need to have a perfect air seal inside and outside the gearbox. You can easily get 350 on a .2 with an M150 spring, and some people have pushed that out to 400. To get 400 FPS easily, up your spring to an M170 (make sure your gearbox can handle it!). If your FPS is too high, it’s recommended to cut coils off your spring rather than short stroke your DSG further.

Feeding

To compensate for the reduced stroke of a DSG, the tappet plate must be cut to a length of 9~12 mm (including bar). Start with 11mm and shave off more until you get good feeding and good FPS. You will need to shorten your tappet plate spring a MINIMUM of two coils, if you find your FPS is dropping in full auto you can remove additional coils.
2021 UPDATE: the best tappet plate is Retro Arms. If you don’t want to mess with a tappet system, try the new Aztech Innovations cylinder head. It uses a tappetless system to feed flawlessly up to 70 RPS and will not drop FPS in auto. Remember to lighten your piston assembly as much as possible when using a metal cylinder head.

RPS

As RPS increases, wear increases and efficiency decreases. It is not recommended to go over 60 RPS although it is definitely possible. The battery, motor and gear ratio all play a part, as well as shimming and other factors. Your RPS may vary. Also, there are many combinations to get the same end result. The ones recommended are done so because they are some of the most efficient. The goal here is to achieve the target RPS using the motor with the highest TPA, as high TPA motors are more efficient and heat up less as well as yielding better trigger response. Low TPA motors are much faster but are not recommended as they sometimes struggle to pull strong springs due to their lack of torque.

I feel really conflicted, because Specna makes a lot of effort in places other companies I've owned don't. But the body warping on the gun I received is pretty bad. I popped open my ICS i haven't touched in 5 years and even that is so much better.
