I'm interested in getting into sync music licensing (writing music for TV, movies, commercials, video games, etc.) and am trying to decide which orchestral library to get. Money is not a factor, but I only have 500 GB of free space on my computer, and I would really prefer to have everything digital, i.e. not buying a hard drive or an iLok dongle

• EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Opus
  • Total library is 944 GB but EastWest support claims you don't have to download the whole library - you can download individual instruments as needed. I likely won't need the entire library on disk at the same time.
  • Memorial Day sale for $400 instead of the usual $1000. For the value this deal is almost irresistible
  • They use iLok License Manager - iLok has a cloud option, but it may be impossible to use the VST without an internet connection (e.g. on a plane or train) unless I want to use an iLok USB dongle... is iLok really as bad as some people say?
• Spitfire
  • They have so many comparably priced orchestral plugins that it's hard to tell which one is the best. Spitfire Symphony Orchestra, Spitfire BBC Orchestra Professional, 5 different Albions.
  • Hard drive space is also a concern. Can I download individual samples like with EastWest, or would I need to buy a hard drive?

WARNING LONG POST
So I basically have gone most of my life not really having any passions in life. I pretty much spent most of my life doing different things, but I haven't really consistently pursued anything. Music is one of those things. When I was around 13 or so, I started playing guitar but it was more of a casual thing, which I eventually put down. I eventually picked it up again when I took a music class during my first semester of high school. I got okay at it, being able to play some chords, and even learned some songs. I had it in my head that I would eventually play in a band (still hasn't happened yet)
Towards the end of my sophomore year, I put it down. I couldn't tell you why. It could be because I had a really bad teacher around this time, who was under the influence during our lessons (this was in Santa Cruz mind you) and long story short, I feel his teachings threw me off (giving me scales that made no sense, tabs for songs that were way off). I also was going through a phase where nothing interested me. And this was the last time I picked up a guitar for the next 6 years.
I eventually picked it up again in my early 20s, when I was going to school. Still hadn't joined a band or anything. I was also working and going to college at the time. Not to mention feeling unconfident about joining any bands. I also tried to pressure myself to get really good into learning sheet music because I read an article saying I should get good at sheet music before playing an instrument. This kinda made learning the guitar more stressful. I feel it would have been better to do these things concurrently. But I know that now I guess.
I did eventually go to this guitar meet up, which was primarily filled with older people (50s/early 60s). Though I did learn to get better at my rhythm, and even learned to sing while playing guitar. Still nothing too impressive. And I felt like the meetup was just the same thing all the time, and I wasn't progressing at a certain point. Also didn't help the people were much older and were primarily singing and playing songs I wasn't super into. Though the added bonus was I did get a little better at singing.
Singing was another area I've been inconsistent with. I took a singing class for a while when I was 10, but it was more of a cultural singing class. And I really don't identify with my culture. I was also very insecure about singing back then. When I was about 22 I took a singing class at my community college. That's where I learned the fundamentals. But I was too shy to sing at home. Eventually I got confident in singing in my car but not with other people around. Aside from when I joined that guitar meetup a few years later. Though in that case we were often singing together.
I went to a couple of karaoke meetups around 2022-23 and got a bit more confident with singing around other people. At the suggestion of a family member I signed up at my local community college's singing class. This was in the fall of 2023 so I was 29 going on 30. This was a great experience as I got way better at singing, way better at breath control, way better at music theory. I joined the school choir during the Spring semester of this year, and I got even better and more confident at singing. I'm also starting to pick up guitar again, and feel confident enough to audition for bands.
But herein lies the problem,
Because of my inconsistency with music, I basically have the equivalent of maybe 2-3 years of singing (only one of which was formal training) and maybe 2 years of guitar playing. I have ZERO experience with playing in a band. I'm basically the equivalent of a 15 year old starting in his first band at the age of 30. Most people in their late 20s/early 30s, have at least a decade of experience of performing, and have been pursuing their craft for many years now.
And honestly it does make me angry and jealous. Obviously it's not their fault. But I can't help feel like they got to experience all the normal milestones of discovering their passions and pursuing them, and discovering their identities, their style of music. They all did that when they were in their teens/early 20s. Whereas I am doing that now. And what gets me is that society expects me to be solidified in my identity.
All the people in their late 20s/early 30s in bands aren't going to want someone as green as me in their bands. They want someone with at least a decade of experience in performing in bands. And that's whats so frustrating. It's like they got to experience their youth, and have that coming of age when it came to pursuing music. The thought of people discovering their passions in their teens/early 20s fills me with so much rage. And it's not just music. I've been late to so many things. I don't have a close friend group yet, I've never dated, didn't get a license until the age of 22, still live at home. I just wish I could press a button and reset my life I wish I could have the normal youth that everyone else got to have. I just find it hard to cope with these aspects of my life.
And now I don't have any options, aside from joining a band with people who are a decade younger who are just starting out, or old retirees who basically play in 60s/70s cover bands.
I wish I could play in bands with people with similar interests, in a similar place in life, in a similar place in their music journey, and play the music that I WANT to play. I feel like I have a voice, I feel the need to express myself. I've even started writing some songs (kinda cringy and angsty, but maybe that's a good thing). I just need that same chance that everyone else got to have. But I'm worried it's no longer an option.

My mother is old, lonely, and very prone to scams. About one month ago, she fell for the Fake Celebrity Romance Scam.
These scammers would message her on facebook pretending to be a famous Turkish soap opera actor. They had her download telegram and on Telegram did the classic "please go to the store to get me gift cards" thing.
Now luckily my mom can't drive, so she asked my dad to get them and lied about what they were. She is a bad liar and my whole family knows about her past with lying and addiction and stuff.
My dad (absolute saint, best person I know, stuck with my horribly verbally abusive and now scammed mother) went out and got a $300 gift card just to make my mom happy. He knew it was a scam, but in his words "it was just to make her stop bitching and moaning" and I totally understood what he meant.
If he had gotten me involved earlier, I obviously wouldn't have let them send a single red cent. But it is what it is. The shouting match that ensued was ugly. My mom ruined yet another holiday for my family (Passover).
But here is the word of warning.
Me and my dad agreed that because my mom is so lonely and just not a pleasant person to talk to, we would allow her to keep her facebook messenger account. Just so she could talk to the actor and keep up the delusion. We were absolutely positive she had no access to any money, any credit cards, or any possible way to fulfill the gift card scam requests. I assumed the scammers would tire themselves out.
Well this turned out to be a huge mistake
We allowed her to continue believing it was the actor. Not that I didn't say 50x a day over the last few weeks "its a nigerian scammer, you are making me lose respect for you if you believe its really him" and she is doing the classic "I am absolutely sure this is him, you just don't want me having friends."
Anyway, she has been messaging these scammers for the past few weeks from about a million different facebook messenger accounts. All of them, without fail, asks her to move to telegram. I have disabled her ability to download new apps so she cant do it. This made her CALL MY SISTER FOR HELP and this opened the floodgates. We tried not to involve my sister because her and my mom already have a strained relationship. We intentionally kept her in the dark.
My sister now knows and is fuming mad at my mother. Fuming being an understatement. Things were said. Family ruining things. And now my whole family is now basically emotionally ruined because we let the delusion continue well past the money.
So here is where I need advice. how do I get these fake turkish actor accounts to stop messaging my mom. Short of deleting her whole facebook account, which I don't want to do because it will make an already lonely old woman even lonelier. I wish facebook had a setting that blocked messages from anyone that is not a friend. But yet they still would send her friend requests so it wouldn't solve it.
My real question is, how do we break the delusion. No matter how much logic we use, and she even agrees with, about how it couldn't really be the actor, she is somehow convinced. My family is basically broken and the damage is done, but I am trying to save what is left of it all. Just had an amazing time on a Tuesday night, and in the off season after the semester ended no less. I’m from Plano and my brother’s from Norman so we’re not real familiar with Denton.
My brother and I stayed overnight to catch Rhett Miller at Andy’s. Cool little venue and a great show.
Afterwards we wandered towards the loud music and ended up at Harvest House where some people were serving up some surprisingly good karaoke (lol, music and art school) outside where we stayed for a while.
A nice guy came up to chat, says he saw us at the Rhett show. We talked for about an hour before leaving and he mentioned he was a touring musician. Turns out he’s pretty humble, goes by Rocket Summer, plays all the instruments and sings on his albums, and has many millions of listens on Spotify. Been binging since.
The next day we went and got tattoos at Studio 104 tattoo parlor which saw us on 30 minutes notice and were clinically clean and professional.
All in all a wonderful time. I’ve always had a great time and hung with great people in Denton since I started driving here from College Station to party here way back in my college days. Since then I’ve come to shows at Rubber Gloves and Dan’s Silver Leaf since then. Lucky Lou’s ftw. Cheers.

I decided to get a two month free trial of Spotify Premium to see what it was like and also try all the cool things on the app. I usually use Amazon Music as I get a discounted price due to Prime and it's cheaper. If I'm gonna be honest, I'm gonna miss the past two months lol

SOUND QUALITY Amazon Music definitely wins when it comes to sound quality. I like how you have a choice between sound qualities. It also takes up less space on my phone for the same amount of songs and same quality. However, for Spotify, higher quality listening takes up a lot more data and downloading high-quality songs takes up a lot of storage (Spotify took up 6 GBS and AM took up 3 GBS for the same amount of songs).
MAKING PLAYLISTS
Spotify wins for this one. It's so easy to make a new playlist and share with friends. You can also make shared playlists, which is a feature I really enjoyed. As well, you can add custom playlist covers, which I'm gonna really miss on AM. Covers add a lot of personality to a playlist and it's way better than just 4 album covers in a square. Additionally, playlists are so much easier to locate on Spotify. When you click Library, a horizontal list of all your playlists shows up, and you can easily pin playlists to your liking. AM, however, stuffs other playlists on the Library tab, and you have to scroll through to find a specific playlist. For some reason, it also puts my main playlist at the end of the list even though it's the playlist I listen to the most?? It's also WAY easier to organize your playlist on Spotify.
USER INTERFACE
Spotify a billion percent for this one. It's SOOOOOOO much better than Amazon Music and I can't stress that enough. Searching for songs is a BREEZE on Spotify. I listen to K-pop and Indian songs, and while it's easier to search up K-pop songs, it's very annoying to search for Indian songs on Amazon Music. On Spotify, I just have to type in the song name. For Amazon Music, I have to type the title with the artist and the movie it comes from. It definitely discourages me from making playlists because it just takes too long and I don't have the time to dig deep into an artist's discography just to find one song. My main playlist consists of over 350 songs, and on Spotify, I can easily search for a specific song in my playlist or scroll to the bottom using the little scroller on the side. On AM I have to scroll endlessly until I find the desired song. Spotify is overall more smooth, fast, and aesthetically pleasing. I also love how Spotify syncs songs across devices.
However, I do like how Amazon Music shuffles better. I just have to press the shuffle button and it will shuffle my playlist. On Spotify, I have to press a song and then press shuffle. Another downside of Spotify is that it really does NOT want you to leave. It shows you 5 different pages before "cancelling" your subscription. Turns out, when it said I had cancelled my subscription a day before the trial ended, it just... brought it back.
Some similarities I found are that AM tries to shove podcasts down your throat while Spotify tries to shove audiobooks down your throat. I'm gonna miss podcasts on Spotify though, because some people would put special songs or instrumentals that weren't officially released as a podcast that people could add to their playlists.
To conclude, Spotify is much better in terms of mostly everything except for sound quality haha

For now up to 90% of generated music in Udio is not just the interpretation or approach you don't like, but simply NN errors. I previously posted here popular post with main categories of such issues:

1. Output does not match prompt (in manual mode) even remotely
2. Gibberish lyrics
3. Lyrics that start at random or mix between verses
4. Sudden, unasked song or instrumental piece ending

And I believe that community can do neural network based on existing approaches that can find not all, but many obvious issues. Any questionable issue won't count. Only where model is sure 99%.
Paired with Chrome plugin that can automatically download your generations from Udio web page and analyze them it can form facts database for class action lawsuit. It won't longer be "I feel it" or "I don't like output", It'll be clear numbers.
I think some lawyers can become interested in such case.
And even more - such community initiative can force Udio to finally make such output checking NN themselves or to train original model such a way to reduce errors mentioned above to rare cases.
