2024.05.22 00:43 MixMasterGResults of the Rekordbox 6 vs. Rekordbox 7 Real-World Speed Test and Comparison to Serato and djay Pro 5 [macOS]
TL:DR Some parts of the text was in Reddit-tables, but they got somehow lost. This project began when someone on Reddit asked about the export speed of Rekordbox 7 compared to Rekordbox 6, prompting the entire initiative. My intention is not to "blame" or "shame" any company or its products. I approached these tests with an unbiased, open mind, taking great care to provide a level playing field for all tests conducted. This report reflects my impartial findings. Test DateMay 16th - May 20th 2024 Report ReleaseMay 21st 2024 AuthorMixMasterG CompanyAnd The Groove Remains Production Team Websitewww.ATGR.nl Publication of (sections) of this report is allowed, with full data source statement included. Introduction: Welcome to the real world Rekordbox 6/7 speed comparison test on macOS 2024. When I began these tests, my initial goal was to quickly compare the speed difference between Rekordbox 6 and Rekordbox 7 on an Apple ARM computer for tasks that are notoriously slow, such as opening, exporting to USB, and analysis. I used my personal, extensive track collection for these tests. Due to unexpected results, I expanded the test to include several other macOS computers. As a reference, I decided to include Algoriddim djay Pro 5, the most optimized DJ software for macOS, and Serato, the second most popular DJ software on macOS. Mandatory Rekordbox 7 analysis when exporting to USB When I initiated the tests, the measured export times from Rekordbox 7 to USB were unreasonably long. Similar reports poured in from users of my applications in various settings. Identifying the cause of this sluggishness swiftly became my top priority. It turned out that Rekordbox 7's export process necessitated the analysis of tracks by RB7, even if those tracks were already fully analyzed in Rekordbox 6.8.5. When an artist updates from Rekordbox 6 to Rekordbox 7, RB7 silently analyzes the tracks before exporting, leading to excessively prolonged export times. Fortunately, RB7 analysis is a one-time requirement per track and can be manually initiated at times that its more convenient then minutes before a gig. I issued this short YouTube video to make users aware: Slow USB export from Rekordbox 7? This is why and how to fix! I gave the full explanation and interpretation of the test results, together with performance tips in my weekly Ask Me Anything live stream for DJs, the video can be watched back here Ask Me Anything for DJs - Results of the Rekordbox 6 Vs Rekordbox 7 real world speed-test There is a time index in the first remark under the video. Note: for the tasks that were tested, none of the DJ softwares utilizes the GPU Test conditions I aimed to standardize all test conditions as much as possible, including:
Data for collection was stored on the internal drive, the audio files were stored on external storage.
Each test used the exact same external drives, connected to the computer over USB-C, using the same cables.
All collection data was identical across all systems, synchronized using Carbon Copy Cloner before the test.
All computers were freshly rebooted prior to the test, with the "open windows from previous session" option disabled.
No other applications were open besides an on-screen stopwatch.
Wi-Fi was disabled, and network cables were disconnected.
No screen capture applications were used; all video recording was done externally to avoid occupying system resources from the test.
Between the various exports in a single test run, the export drive was not formatted (so each of the 3 exports added to the previous). Only after a full export run (sync1, sync2 and sync3) on a given computer, the drive was reformatted.
The partitioning scheme used in both FAT32 and HFS (=macOS Extended journaled) was Master Boot Record.
Analysis in Rekordbox was only performed for "Phrase" to maintain the converted Mixed in Key/Traktor values. Analysis requires at least one option to be checked, all other options (BPM/Grid, key etc) were disabled.
In Serato DJ Pro analysis for BPM and Key were disabled
In Rekordbox, the Sync Manager was enabled to synchronize all playlists from iTunes, ensuring the sync was up-to-date with no changes made to the iTunes collection during the test.
All test playlists originate from iTunes and were accessed through the iTunes section of the DJ software.
All (116.747) tracks from iTunes had been pre-analyzed in: Rekordbox 6, Serato, and djay Pro 5. In other words, the DJ software had a real and big collection of tracks. Since djay Pro 5 does not re-analyze already analyzed audio files, all djay analysis data was deleted from the system before running the analysis tests.
Because iTunes sync can not be disabled in djay Pro, the values used for startup without iTunes are the same values from the test run with iTunes sync enabled.
Rekordbox 7 on macOS is not multithreading when it comes to analysis, hence the spikes in the tests. On Windows Rekordbox 7 utilizes all available CPU cores. Rekordbox 6.8.5 is also multithreading.
Export to an HFS formatted USB is faster than a FAT32 formatted, especially after consecutive exports.
Disabling iTunes integration in the SyncManager can improve startup times of Rekordbox considerably. Disabling iTunes sync can cause issues with exported USBs that were originally created using the SyncManager.
Rekordbox 7 has a bug, where custom/edited BPM/Grids can be overwritten with mandatory analysis. Even when the BPM/Grid analysis is disabled!
Export to USB using the SyncManager still shows 2 progress bars, where export through right click -> export only shows 1

I hope this post won't get blocked. It is not intended to discriminate particular groups of people, but mostly comes with the concern of our existence as a nation in the future. I think the foreign visitors (especially from !nd!a, Pak!$tan, and the other ar@b!c countries) are threat to central asian countries in the long term:
Their number grow exponentially in time, so within 10-20 years it can turn into a huge local !nd!@n/ pak!$tan community. Think about what will happen within 50 years, taking into account the small number of the CA people. Honestly I dont want my country having a big population of them.
They dont integrate well to local culture, mostly living in their bubble with the other fellows.
They often harass local females and have some weird attitudes. Somehow they consider the CA girls as a target for hook up/ one night stand. It's really shame on us that our sisters are perceived in that way.
Ironically they count us as a less developed third world country (which is true though), but coming from an another shitty place I would be more humble.
Fellow CA brothers, when you see some weird behavior of them please dont go silent. And we need to take an action to regulate their stay here (cooperating with the government). Of course we dont support any violence towards them, but cant accept a such treatment either. The recent unrest in Bishkek is a nice example how we should react when our people are mistreated. So how do you think we can regulate their number here? Of course they still can come to study and work, but its crucial to get their number under control (I.e. shouldnt exceed some amount). PS. I know we have the other problems a way urgent than this, but this post is not about them. So please stay in the context

Email Integration Techniques with Azure SQL
Integrating emails from Outlook into an Azure SQL database requires a comprehensive approach that involves several steps, starting from the extraction of email data to its storage and management within the database. This process is not just about moving data; it's about transforming the unstructured format of emails into a structured format that can be easily queried and analyzed. The first part of this integration involves setting up an automated process that can fetch emails from Outlook, either through Microsoft Graph API or Outlook REST API. These APIs provide a way to access Outlook mailboxes programmatically, allowing developers to read emails, and extract relevant information such as the sender, recipient, subject, body, and attachments. Once the email data is fetched, the next step involves parsing and structuring this data to fit into the schema of the Azure SQL database. This may require data transformation processes to ensure that the email data conforms to the database schema, including converting email formats, extracting text from attachments, and more. Storing emails in a SQL database allows for advanced data manipulation, such as querying for specific emails, analyzing email trends, and even integrating with other data sources for comprehensive insights. Furthermore, integrating Outlook emails with Azure SQL opens up possibilities for leveraging SQL-based tools and technologies for data analysis, reporting, and visualization, providing a powerful platform for business intelligence and data-driven decision-making.

2024.05.21 23:49 anefisenufCan't escape an old diagnosis?
I have been diagnosed with PTSD (later cPTSD) for 20+ years. About 4 years ago, I did EMDR, which was life changing. I consider myself to be symptom free since then. Recently I've started with a new therapist, as I've had some stubborn depression following a difficult divorce, infertility, surgery and poverty. I understand that this is also traumatic, but I have lived with symptomatic ptsd for a very long time and this just isn't that. I went to therapy feeling like I needed space to grieve and process the loss of what feels like my dreams (motherhood and my careelife plans are way off the table), but she refers to me as a "functional part" and wants to start with childhood memories. My issue with this, is that, the memories she wants to focus on are not unintegrated for me. I am also not an unintegrated person. I'm not a "part," and the only reason she has these memories is because she asked questions like "what's the first memory where you remember feeling xyz?" So, I answered, but I've already processed all of this stuff with emdr before. I don't have a "color" for it or a "temperature...." I can tell you what I'm feeling, where it's coming from, what it feels like in my body, and what I need is someone to give me space to just fall apart a little bit, because at this time I can't do that in my day to day life. It seems like she is assuming I'm a lot less functional or integrated than I actually am just because the intake interview was full of traumatic history. But I was just answering questions (like, "what was your home like growing up"), no part of the actual complaints I've brought up are ptsd symptoms. So, then I asked if we could start with the present situation, as I believe any residual traumatic memories will process through on their own as that has been my experience with EMDR, but she insists we start with the earliest one and do one at a time. Which makes no sense to me as I don't even feel activated at all, let alone have a currently held negative belief about myself, regarding the ones we've discussed. Maybe I did then, and maybe it lingered before the last time I did emdr, but now it's like trying to guess which of thousands of traumatic memories might still have a charge. I don't know, this seems all wrong to me. I'm 42, I don't currently have a great support system as I've recently started over much of my life from scratch, I'm recently post-menopausal and so I'm hormonally all over the place. I've been through quite a lot in life (and I've done an ungodly amount of therapy- frankly, I was in therapy when my current therapist was likely still toilet training) and I'm just burnt out, depressed and need a non-judgmental space to cry and move through some of my recent losses so that i can feel a bit more motivated and hopeful again. But it feels like as soon as I talk about my past, I'm being filed as having a certain diagnosis or coping mechanisms that I don't even think I've displayed. Does this mean I can't have depression or difficult grief after a major loss without being pigeonholed as having some kind of childhood trauma emotional regulation issue?
2024.05.21 23:38 geoffsnGave a talk on Sunday. Happy to hear thoughts on it.
Good morning sisters and brothers, fellow Saints of our aspirational Zion. I was asked to speak and allowed to decide what the topic would be. After a lot of consideration I felt inspired to speak about being Actively Engaged in a Good Cause and how that relates to the full name of the church. I was glad when President Nelson decided to put more emphasis on the full name of the church. Not that I mind using the term Mormon, but because I do find the full name of the church to be significant. When the church was organized in 1830 it was called the Church of Christ. In 1834 the members voted to change the name of the church to the Church of the Latter-day Saints. Then in 1838 Joseph had a revelation for the name to be The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While this effectively combined the two previous names, it also highlights something that I think most people overlook. Namely that the church is not only Jesus’s church, but that the church also belongs to us, the Latter-day Saints. We too have ownership of the church. While this may sound strange at first, it actually also fits very well with another concept that Joseph Smith taught: Theodemocracy. Joseph spoke of this most actively the year before his death when running for President of the United States and when the Council of Fifty was created. The idea also holds in it that while God is in charge, we also have ownership and must have a say, actively vote, propose new ideas, and generally be actively engaged in moving things forward. It is not a theocracy with a fake voting system attached like that of North Korea. However, we have largely seen our own tradition move from one in which we do things by common consent including adding to our canon or as in 1834 voting to change the name of the church, towards something much more akin to voting in North Korea. This has coincided with other shifts in which we have taken less and less ownership of our church and as a result failed to properly sustain and support our leaders. It is unfair to our leaders for us to sit back and wait for them to do frankly most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the running and functioning of our church, stake, and ward. In the past when I’ve been in callings that required me to be overseeing the assignments of home teaching or really any other church assignments, my experience has been that occasionally some inspiration will strike for some of the assignments, but that for the majority, I felt like I was left to figure out myself what assignments seemed to make the most sense. I know that many leaders that I have spoken to on this topic have also had such experiences. When we as members speak with our leaders, share information with them, it makes it much easier to make the best decisions. Without that feedback much more is left to guesswork. We need to support and sustain our leaders, but this becomes difficult or challenging if we bring some assumptions to the table when considering how we do this. A major one as I see it is when we put too much trust in the arm of the flesh and grant our leaders infallibility or the lesser but largely equivalent functional infallibility. As the saying goes: “Catholics say that the Pope is infallible, but none of them believe it. Mormons say that the Prophet is fallible, but none of them believe it.” Brigham Young recognized the potential for harm in this setting and said: "I am fearful [the Saints will] settle down in a state of blind self-security, trusting their eternal destiny in the hands of their leaders with a reckless confidence that in itself would thwart the purposes of God in their salvation, and weaken the influence they could give to their leaders, did they know for themselves, by the revelations of Jesus, that they are led in the right way.” – Brigham Young 1862 General Conference (quoted in General Conference of the church in 1963 and in 1989) And this one is also important: "And none are required to tamely and blindly submit to a man because he has a portion of the priesthood. We have heard men who hold the priesthood remark, that they would do anything they were told to do by those who presided over them, if they knew it was wrong; but such obedience as this is worse than folly to us; it is slavery in the extreme; and the man who would thus willingly degrade himself should not claim a rank among intelligent beings, until he turns from his folly. A man of God… would despise the idea. Others, in the extreme exercise of their almighty authority have taught that such obedience was necessary, and that no matter what the saints were told to do by their presidents, they should do it without asking any questions. When Elders of Israel will so far indulge in these extreme notions of obedience as to teach them to the people, it is generally because they have it in their minds to do wrong themselves.” – Millennial Star, vol.14 #38, pp. 593-95 Yet does this functionally happen in the church? Do we follow this council to find out for ourselves instead of simply assuming everything from our leaders is divine? Apostle Charles W. Penrose, who would later serve as counselor to President Smith, declared: "President Wilford Woodruff is a man of wisdom and experience, and we respect him, but we do not believe his personal views or utterances are revelations from God; and when ‘Thus saith the Lord’, comes from him, the saints investigate it: they do not shut their eyes and take it down like a pill.” – Millennial Star 54:191 Do we do this? When the prophet says “Thus saith the Lord” do we take the time to investigate it? Do we remember President Kimball’s reaction to Elder Benson’s talk on the “14 fundamentals of following the prophet”? "Spencer felt concern about the talk, wanting to protect the Church against being misunderstood as espousing ultraconservative politics or an unthinking “follow the leader” mentality. The First Presidency again called Elder Benson in to discuss what he had said and asked him to make explanation to the full Quorum of the Twelve and other General Authorities… A First Presidency spokesman Don LeFevre reiterated to the press the day after the speech that it is “simply not true” that the Church President’s “word is law on all issues—including politics.” – Lengthen Your Stride – Working Draft, by Edward Kimball I’ve had the opportunity to know some great Mormons who do take this approach, but I’ve also known many who treat quotes from church leaders like downloaded messages from God (no human filters involved). If we can believe that God is capable of inspiring our leaders, surely we can believe God is capable of letting us know when they’re wrong. If instead we assume that their judgment is always superior to our own, perhaps we’re helping to put up a massive iron gate. "How often has the Holy Spirit tried to tell us something we needed to know but couldn’t get past the massive iron gate of what we thought we already knew?" – Dieter Uchtdorf 2012 Worldwide Leadership Training Moses once opined “Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” We have all been confirmed members of the church and in that confirmation told to receive the Holy Ghost. It is easy to forget that when the spirit tells us something, that is a member of the Godhead speaking to us. If we can believe that God can give guidance to our leaders surely we can also believe God can give us guidance. Another important and often overlooked point is the context to this oft quoted verse: "We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion." -D&C 121:39 This statement wasn’t given in a vacuum. It is in the middle of a long discussion of priesthood and priesthood authority. This is talking specifically about priesthood leaders. When we read that “many are called but few are chosen,” we’re reading that many priesthood leaders abuse their power and only few truly honor it. The saints in Joseph’s day understood this. I think we’ve sanitized it over the years to make it seem like an aside, an intermission on the discussion of priesthood. This statement is as true now as ever. This verse, with its proper context, needs to be a lesson for us as members. We need to sustain and support our leaders. This doesn’t mean following them blindly. This doesn’t mean we must become “yes-men” to them. This does mean pray for them to be chosen instead of just called. This does mean to influence our leaders to do God’s will. Remember, one of Brigham’s concerns about us acting as if all our leaders decisions were divine is that it will “weaken the influence [we] could give to [our] leaders.” What questions our church leaders will take to the Lord are impacted by our own openness to those things. In 1977 President Kimball expressed concern that if the Race-ban on priesthood was removed that there would be pushback from members in the American South and from some in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. When President Hinckley was asked in an interview about the Gender-ban on priesthood his response was that “there’s no agitation for it.” Until we better engage in our own history and understand how we got to where we are now it will be very difficult if not impossible for us as members to be prepared for the removal of the current gender-ban on priesthood. Sometimes we might justify our own spiritual laziness by saying that while our leaders are fallible that God will never let them lead us astray, granting them a sort of functional infallibility. Nevermind that this was first said when my 3rd-great-grandpa President Woodruff was trying to convince members not to leave over the Manifesto. Nevermind that it means that we’re denying our leaders their agency by assuming that God removes their ability to make mistakes in their callings. Maybe some make such a statement more nuanced. Maybe they think that our leaders can make mistakes, but they won’t be majosignificant mistakes. Well, what is and isn’t significant depends a lot on who you are and how you’re being affected by it. I’m thinking that the women and children who were slaughtered in prophet-sanctioned genocide in the Bible considered that a significant mistake. I’m thinking that the thousands denied temple blessings their entire lives because of the color of their skin might consider that significant. Let’s just recognize that few are chosen and that we need to give our leaders constructive/interactive support. We place a lot of responsibility on our leaders and they are very likely to make mistakes. Because they are human and doing their best, but as humans we all err from time to time. Recognizing the mistakes of our leaders is essential to giving them true support; it is vital to sustaining them. I would hope that we would avoid enabling or cheerleading bad decisions that friends or family are about to make. Pointing out why a decision will be or was problematic is what we expect of people who we truly love and support us, because it helps us to avoid pain and pitfalls and enables us to be our best. Here’s a story from our little section of Salt Lake City in which members recognized the potential for mistakes and took ownership of our church. On August 23rd, 1896 Stake President Angus M. Cannon proposed a man to be the bishop of a new ward which was to be divided from the Sugar House Ward. The congregation voted against the proposed new bishop. President Angus M. Cannon then purportedly shouted "Sit down! and shut your mouths, you have no right to speak!" When Cannon engaged in a shouting match with the dissenting congregation, a ward member and policeman threatened to arrest the stake president for disturbing the peace. President Cannon more calmly repeated his attempt but was voted down "again several times." The Secretary of the First Council of the Seventy was in attendance and wrote in his journal: "I have been taught that the appointing power comes from the priesthood and the sustaining power from the people and that they have the right of sustaining or not sustaining appointees. When it comes to being actively engaged in church endeavors our neighborhood and the general Sugar House area has done a lot. The "stake missionary program" began in the Granite Stake under President Frank Taylor in the early 1900s. It was an idea presented to President Taylor who then prayerfully considered trying it out as a stake. It proved successful and was later picked up by the General Authorities who made it a church-wide program. The seminary program was also started in our stake after Joseph Merrill (a newly called member of the Granite Stake Presidency) felt inspired to start it and worked out agreements with the school board and got it going at the very new (at the time) Granite High School. Also, in 1909 the Granite Stake started a monthly family home evening program. After counseling with many sisters and brothers in the stake, the Stake Presidency asked each family to spend Tuesday evening home together. All of these were local things which were eventually picked up and run at the church-wide level. We have a history in our area of being anxiously engaged and pioneering with new ideas. While those are all instances of members, wards, and stakes starting programs for good causes in our area of Salt Lake City, they are just a few examples of Saints starting inspired efforts which were eventually accepted and promoted by the top church leaders. The relief society started when women in Nauvoo came together to do some good. The Primary program, Sunday school, Mutual Improvement Association, welfare/farming, organized genealogy efforts, and Young Adult programs all also started as members and local leaders were anxiously engaged and thereby gave influence to the top church leaders. So as we consider how we can more actively engage in the church and look at what we can do now that would help to further the kingdom of God, I’d like to share a few things that have been on my mind which I feel would be steps which we can do now and which doesn’t require any new doctrines, revelations, or organizational adjustments from our leadership.
Give leaders their agency and remove the false idol of functional infallibility
I’ve already said a lot about this. The only thing I’ll add is to encourage everyone to read and learn about our history. The church history department has been putting out a lot of new, well-researched material, and there is a very high chance that it will be different than how you learned about things over the last several decades. Interestingly, most historically thorny topics become vastly easier to deal with when we stop denying leaders agency and ability to get things wrong.
Stop turning into a time capsule of the 1950s
This is really a small thing, but sometimes small things can have an outsized impact. Assuming someone comes into church for the first time, they will likely be a little weirded out because in dress and culture they walked into a time capsule of the 1950s. The Amish did this with mid-1800s, some Mennonites have as well. FLDS have with when they split in the 1930s/40s. These groups that have followed this pattern of freezing time and culture because they have been integrated into their religious practice are generally ones that are not really growing and have little-to-no impact or relevance in society. If we want to do the most good and build the most bridges, it is easier to do if we don’t continue falling into this pattern. Any efforts on our part to make our meetings look like a place that people in the public could come into and not feel out of place are steps in this direction. Dresses, suits and ties aren’t part of Christ’s gospel. Missionary clothing is changing for similar reasons. New guidelines for missionaries include allowing sisters to wear pants and Elders to go without jackets, so surely we can extend the same to our church attendance.
Always speak at church as though the audience is the general public
I have many times felt like I didn’t fit in or belong at church, and many times this has been because people speaking at church have done so with the assumption that everyone in the building must share their views on a given topic. Simply imagining that a gay couple, an ex-mormon, an investigator, some in the midst of a faith crisis, and others who live in our neighborhood are in the audience will help us to make sure that as we teach our lessons, give our talks, etc. that we will do so in the most open and welcoming way possible, which frankly is how i believe Jesus would have spoken. I truly believe that if we try to do this it will drastically improve our lessons and dialogue and help to make church a place that more people want to be. It is a change that (to borrow imagery from Jesus’s parable of the sower) will be akin to tilling and prepping the soil to improve the likelihood of allowing seeds to take root. There are near infinite ways that we can innovate and get engaged in good causes. Awake and arise, join in the cause of Zion. The aspiration of Zion is to be of one heart and one mind and have no poor among us. I think it is worth noting that being of one mind doesn’t mean agreeing on everything. It means that we are united in love; love for God and for all persons. When this is our top priority, when we worry about how our actions impact others and whether our words and actions are conveying love, we become united. I’ve been a long-time fan of Eugene England’s essay “The church is as true as the gospel.” In it he makes the case that the church is true because it is a vehicle in which we are able to actually try to put the gospel into practice. In doing so we encounter difficulties as we interact with other fallible mortals and try to navigate our interactions in a Christ-like way. We all try and this mix of imperfect people who unite in love and service can help to bring each other and others to Christ. It is my prayer that we can find ways to engage with love, and humble ourselves like little children, to change our ways as needed to come closer to Christ. I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

THE OBLIGATORY "IS THIS A SCAM?" QUESTION: Considering the fact that you found my contact information online, it’s understandable to be skeptical regarding the legitimacy of my services. Therefore, I’m willing to do all of the following to help you feel more secure in trusting me with your academic needs:
1) Speak with you on the phone and answer any questions you may have so that you have the opportunity to assess and analyze my tone, articulation, accent, diction, dialect, regionalisms, pitch, vocabulary, word choice, intonations, and inflections.
NOTE: I’m a New Jersey-born Irish/Italian-American, but I have been told that I speak in an erudite & articulate suburban American accent with a “professor style” voice somewhat resembling the voice of actor: Ben Stein.
2) Agree to do some homework questions of yours upfront with the work fully shown in real-time to prove my mastery of the course content.
3) Send you screenshots of at least five past scores I attained from completing exams & homework assignments for other students in the same type of class you need help with.
4) Send you full screenshots of written exam solutions I wrote up by hand for students in the past in the same course that you need help with so that you can see my neat handwriting.
5) Provide you with the contact information of students who have utilized my services in the past who would be more than willing to vouch for my skills.
MY REBUTTAL TO THE OBLIGATORY “IS THIS A SCAM?” QUESTION: At the risk of sounding arrogant, I consider myself to be at least marginally more intelligent (both academically & socially) than the average person. Therefore, if I ever decided to suddenly risk prison time, risk my reputation, and risk enduring the wrath of modern-day “cancel culture” by scamming people out of their money:
I certainly wouldn’t do it for such paltry amounts of money. (i.e., anything less than $1,000 per victim.)
I certainly wouldn’t choose high school & college students as my “target audience” to scam, considering that most people without college degrees have abysmally low annual incomes. Why choose low-income victims when it would be much more profitable to target high-income, high-net-worth individuals earning at least six figures a year? I have knowledge in business consulting, and I promise you that a business owner would be a MUCH more lucrative mark than a low-income college student.
I wouldn’t choose such a time & energy-draining method of scamming people. Also, communicating back and forth with potential clients is an absurdly long time sink since only less than 10% of all potential clients who reach out to me actually become paying clients of mine. This means that 90% of my time communicating with potential clients ultimately proves to be a colossal waste of my irretrievable time & energy.
If you pay me to provide academic services and I don’t deliver, you can always dispute the payment with the payment app and easily get your money refunded. If I were in the habit of swindling money from people, then all of my payment accounts would have been investigated and be completely shut down by now. And I would have been permanently banned from opening new accounts. Therefore, the fact that all my payment apps have been fully active for years should be sufficient proof that I haven’t had people consistently disputing payments sent to me.

The article discusses the environmental impact of landfill waste, including issues related to air quality, water quality, soil quality, biodiversity, and ecosystem disruption, as well as strategies and solutions for reducing landfill waste and the role of regulations in landfill management. Mitigating Landfill Waste: Strategies for Environmental Preservation
Introduction to the Environmental Impact of Landfill Waste
Landfills serve as engineered waste disposal sites designed to contain and isolate waste from the surrounding environment. While they play a crucial role in waste management, landfills also have significant environmental consequences. The decomposition of organic waste in landfills produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Additionally, the lack of proper lining and containment measures in landfill sites can lead to the leakage of harmful substances into the soil and groundwater, posing risks to environmental and public health. For example, in regions like Boston, Cape Cod, and Worcester, the environmental impact of landfill waste underscores the urgent need for sustainable waste management practices to minimize ecological harm and promote a healthier living environment for residents. The scale of landfill waste production in the United States alone highlights the magnitude of the issue. Annually, over 250 million tons of municipal solid waste are generated, with a significant portion ending up in landfills. This accumulation not only occupies vast land space but also presents challenges in waste management and environmental preservation. The rising trend in waste production emphasizes the importance of implementing sustainable waste management practices to reduce reliance on landfills and transition towards a circular economy model. Furthermore, on a global scale, the planet produced over 2 billion tons of waste in 2016, a number projected to increase to 3.4 billion by 2050. This exponential growth in waste generation necessitates immediate action to implement effective waste management strategies and reduce the environmental impact of landfill waste to ensure a sustainable future for all. Air Quality and Landfill Emissions play a crucial role in shaping environmental health. Apart from methane and carbon dioxide, landfills release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that contribute to air pollution and smog formation. These emissions, including sulfur dioxide and ammonia, can react in the atmosphere to form harmful particulate matter, affecting respiratory health and overall air quality. Furthermore, the incineration of waste in landfills for volume reduction can release toxic air pollutants like dioxins and furans, further deteriorating air quality. For instance, in cities like Boston and Worcester, the impact of landfill emissions on air quality is a significant concern, requiring the adoption of cleaner waste management technologies and stricter regulations to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere. By addressing the challenges posed by landfill emissions, communities can improve air quality and protect public health from the adverse effects of air pollution. Water Quality and Landfill Leachate management are critical aspects of environmental protection. Landfill leachate, a complex liquid mixture containing heavy metals, organic pollutants, and pathogens, poses risks to surface water and groundwater quality. Inadequate treatment of landfill leachate can result in the contamination of drinking water sources and aquatic ecosystems, impacting human health and biodiversity. Additionally, persistent organic pollutants leached from landfills can bioaccumulate in aquatic organisms, posing long-term ecological threats to aquatic food chains. For example, in regions like Cape Cod, where landfills are in close proximity to water bodies, the proper management of landfill leachate is crucial to preventing water contamination and preserving the integrity of natural water systems. By implementing effective leachate treatment protocols and investing in advanced filtration technologies, cities can mitigate the risks associated with landfill leachate and protect water quality for both human and environmental well-being. https://preview.redd.it/i2e38mv6cu1d1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2186c271071c8453c78881c03921c29be25faf32 Soil Quality and Landfill Impact go hand in hand in the realm of environmental conservation. Landfills have the potential to alter soil structure and composition, leading to reduced soil fertility and inhibiting plant growth. The accumulation of non-biodegradable waste in landfills can introduce microplastics into the soil, affecting soil health and ecosystem functioning. Furthermore, chemical leaching from landfills can create soil hotspots of contamination, posing risks to agricultural activities and natural habitats. In Worcester, for instance, the presence of landfills has been associated with soil degradation, impacting local farming practices and ecosystem resilience. By addressing soil quality concerns and promoting sustainable land use practices, regions can mitigate the negative impact of landfill waste on soil health and ecosystem biodiversity. Biodiversity and Ecosystem Disruption are significant implications of landfill development. Landfill expansion often encroaches upon natural habitats, displacing wildlife and disrupting ecological balances. The attraction of scavenging animals to landfill sites can create conflicts with native species and alter community dynamics in surrounding ecosystems. Additionally, landfill odors and emissions can deter pollinators and disrupt plant-animal interactions, impacting biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. For example, in regions like Cape Cod, where landfill development threatens critical wildlife habitats, efforts to mitigate the impact of landfills on biodiversity are essential. By implementing conservation measures and habitat restoration initiatives, communities can protect native species and promote a harmonious coexistence between landfills and natural ecosystems.

We are excited to announce that native vector indexing and search in Azure Cosmos DB for NoSQL is now available in preview! Azure Cosmos DB is the world’s first full-featured serverless database with vector search and features multiple vector index options from flat (exact), quantized flat, and a new DiskANN-based index. DiskANN is a suite of highly scalable, accurate, and cost-effective approximate nearest neighbor (ANN) algorithms, developed at Microsoft Research, for low-latency and cost-effective vector search at any scale. You can take advantage of Azure Cosmos DB’s rich features such as a NoSQL query syntax to combine vector search with query filters that can increase the relevancy and accuracy of your vectors searches. You’ll also get all the benefits of Azure Cosmos DB’s flexibility, instant autoscale, 99.999% SLA, geo-replication, and more! Store your data and vectors together, eliminating the need to store vectors in a separate vector database and realize improved consistency, synchronization between vectors and data, and a reduction in the complexity and costs of AI applications. What is DiskANN? DiskANN is a suite of scalable approximate nearest neighbor search algorithms designed for efficient vector search at any scale. It offers high recall, high queries per second (QPS), andlow query latency even for billion-point datasets. This makes it it a powerful tool for handling large volumes of data. Learn more about DiskANN from Microsoft.
DiskANN is a graph-based indexing and search system that performs fast and accurate approximate nearest neighbor (ANN) search at any-scale.
It primarily uses an SSD-based index to scale to an order of magnitude more points compared to in-memory indices, while still retaining high QPS and low latency.
Quantized (compressed) vectors are kept in memory, and DiskANN balances interactions between the two to offer low latency and high accuracy.
DiskANN is based on a novel graph index called Vamana that is more versatile than existing graph indices by maintaining accuracy despite many insertions, modifications, and deletions, without the need for expensive index rebuilds.
DiskANN vector indexes are stored on high-speed SSDs, while compressed vectors are stored in memory. This reduces memory-footprint of the vector index, enabling planet-sized scalability for vector search scenarios.
Low Latency
The DiskANN graph index construction makes it very efficient during search, minimizing the number of SSD reads to achieve high throughput and low latency.
High Accuracy
During index construction, nodes in the graph are connected to diverse neighbors to improve recall. After the search operation, the results are re-ranked using the full-precision vectors providing high accuracy.
Low Cost
Because the quantized vectors are stored in memory and the full-precision graph is stored on SSDs, it’s much less expensive to maintain and operate DiskANN-based indexes. This results in lower RU costs for your vector search queries.
Robust to Insertions, Deletions, and Modifications
The DiskANN graph index is capable of supporting transactional workloads and does not degrade over time with high volumes of inserts, updates, or deletes. This is a differentiator among typical vector databases in the market today, which are built using HNSW and other less robust methods that require computationally expensive full index rebuilds to maintain accuracy.
The benefits of DiskANN, combined with the instant & dynamic autoscale, global replication, and industry leading 99.999% SLA of Azure Cosmos DB make for an unparalleled database for managing both your operational and vector data workloads.
Flat index is an exact (sometimes called brute-force) approach to vector indexing. The vectors are placed on the Azure Cosmos DB index and referenced for efficient lookup. This may be a good option to use in scenarios where 100% accuracy of vector searches is required, and both the dimensionality of the vectors is small.
Quantized Flat index is also an exact index, but the vectors are quantized (compressed) before being added to the Azure Cosmos DB index. This is very efficient and uses the same quantization method featured in DiskANN.
DiskANN enables approximate nearest neighbors (ANN) search at scale, with efficiencies that reduce RU cost and latency. This is extremely efficient and low-cost, especially when you expect to scale to larger scenarios. Note that using the DiskANN index requires enrollment in a separate preview as it’s still in an early preview version.

2024.05.21 20:18 djames2992My wife (32F) hates my (33M) mother (67F), causing huge issues between us. Is there a fix or is this unfixable?
Hello all -- first time poster here. Sorry for the really long post, I guess part of this is therapeutic for me just to write out. I've really been struggling recently, as my wife has come to absolutely despise by 67 year old mother, and I'm not sure if there's anything that can fix it. A little bit of my history. I've always been very close with my family. I grew up in a south Asian household (although I always felt we integrated nicely with a lot of American culture -- both me and my sibling have lived in a large US city our entire lives and consider ourselves American both in culture as well as nationality). However, as in many Asian cultures, respect for elders is extremely important. I always had a parent-child relationship with my parents (meaning that they were in charge, and not interested in being my friend, but rather my mentors and provided invaluable guidance over the years). Both of my parents sacrificed a lot for me and mysibling, but especially my mom who chose to forgo advancing her own career, and to work part time in order to raise my sibling and I. I've always had a good relationship with my mom, although we've had our share of fights over the years (we're both pretty stubborn), but they typically last no more than a 3-5 days on average and then things are completely back to normal. I would say this happens an average of 1-2 times per year at most. I do feel very close with my mom (& my dad as well, but my wife doesn't seem to have any issues with my dad so I'm not focussing on that part). I do believe that much of the success I have achieved in life is directly attributable to the sacrifices my mom made as well as the time she spent raising and teaching me. I have always respected my parents, which is typical of Asian culture. By respect, I mean things like not talking back, valuing their opinions, and trying to make their life easier or happier in small ways (visiting them on weekends, going out to dinner together -- we live roughly 40 minutes apart). A bit of my wife's history -- she grew up with her parents being divorced from a young age. Both of her parents are wonderful people who I really adore, but they were extremely lenient with her growing up (they were not on top of her with regards to schoolwork, she would talk back to them at times without getting in much trouble, she was able to sneak out of her house as a teen, etc.). These are by no means egregious offenses, and I suspect many kids do the same at that age. However, there was a clear difference in her relationship with her parents -- there was no real enforcement of rules or punishment for breaking rules. Through my lens, it seems that this has manifested as a lack of respect for her own parents, as well as her elders. She mostly has a good relationship with both of her parents, but when she does disagree with them, she talks to them in ways I could never imagine speaking to my own parents (talks back, hangs up on them, etc.). She says that she needs to "put them in their place" at times, which I also find rude. Overall, I would say she grew up much less "family-oriented" than I did, for what it's worth. My wife is also somewhat of a nomad (mostly not by choice). She moved a few times growing up (within the same state, but different areas), and then went out of state for college, only to leave after 1.5 years and finish at a local state school (in a different state) where her mother lived at the time. Because of this, she has very few close friends, and the ones that she does have are spread out all across the country on different coasts. This is in stark contrast to me. I've been lucky to maintain the same group of friends that I've had since we were 8 or 9 years old. On top of that, most of them have stayed in the same area that we grew up in (where my wife and I now live). I think the lack of a social circle has affected my wife since she moved to my city, but I'm not sure what solution there is for that since there is no city we could live in where she would have a group of close friends or family (her parents live in different states and split time between different states, her 3 closest friends live in 3 different states). I've known my wife for 8 years and we've been married for 2.5. I love her. She is a great person; she is kind, compassionate, loving, and at her core truly does care deeply about others (though I feel that this does not always come across in the way she talks to her own parents). She's funny, adventurous, and up until recently, I was always happier around her. We were recently blessed with the birth of our son, who is now 11 months old. Our son is the best thing that has ever happened to us, but his arrival seems to have simultaneously strained our relationship in ways I did not anticipate. I knew that the sleep deprivation would be hard, and our lives would change drastically. What I did not envision was a deepening hatred that my wife has developed for my mom. Prior to the birth of our son, my wife did not have much of an issue with my mom other than thinking she was "needy" for wanting to see myself and my sibling once a week, even if it was just for a dinner (again, we live roughly 40 minutes apart, and my parents are typically willing to drive to us, meet us at a restaurant, or have us over). My mom does tend to be picky with where we eat out (she doesn't eat most meat, and prefers vegetarian options), but that never really bothered me, though it seems to bother my wife that my mom is "getting her way", even though this was at most 1 meal in the week. I know that my mom can certainly be stubborn and hard to deal with at times, but I know her very well, and I always felt that she was inclusive of my wife, and never did anything that warranted being strongly disliked. The one exception to this was during our son's baby shower. We had planned a large party with a lot of family and friends that my parents hosted (their house is large enough to accomodate a party of that size). During the baby shower, my mom helped arrange catering of food, ordering tables, chairs, tablecloths, and hiring a bartender (my parents also paid for all of this). My wife did not like my mom's taste with regards to tablecloths and chair decorations and she was irritated that my mom wanted to help and be involved in the planning (though to her credit, my wife did not outwardly show this discontent to my mom, though it was certainly made known to me). My wife handled the floral arrangements and other decorative pieces such as a backdrop, and spent a lot of time and effort getting them exactly how she wanted. I kind of sensed that my mom felt that she was being taken for granted and underappreciated by my wife (she did take care and pay for a lot), and my wife felt that my mom was being overbearing with planning, and also felt that my mom was purposefully spiteful (my wife claims that every other member of my family commented on how nice the floral arrangements were, but my mom never did). This culminated in a "fight" where my wife wanted a decorative piece in one part of the yard and my mom wanted it in another part. There was some exchange of words at the time, though I did not witness this. This left my mom feeling that my wife was "disrespectful" and left my wife hating my mom for not honoring her decision about where to place the decorative piece, since this was her baby shower. This led to a very upsetting experience for my wife and I as we really did not enjoy the baby shower at all (although this was not evident to our guests or other family members, as we were able to "fake it"). My wife was particularly upset after the baby shower when we drove home since she felt that it was supposed to be a special day for her, and my mom ruined it, which I mostly agreed with. To her credit, my mom did apologize to both my wife and me the following day, and told us that she had been under a lot of stress with many family members staying at their house, taking care of meals, sleeping arrangements, etc., and her stress got the better of her. I was willing to accept her apology and move on, but my wife has always held a grudge since that time, and feels that the apology wasn't genuine. Again, I've known my mom for a long time and she would rather not apologize at all than do so disingenuously. My wife however insists that she can read my mom better than me, since I'm biased. Nonetheless, we moved forward. After the birth of our son, my parents and my wife's parents were overjoyed (he is all of their first grandchild). Again, we live near where I grew up so my parents are much closer to us than my wife's parents are. After the birth of our son, my wife's mom rented a place near us for 4 months to help with the baby and chores, etc. I never had any issue with this, even when she would come over multiple times a day, or even unannounced at times (this was not something that bothered me). My parents were (& are) also very eager to spend time with their grandchild, and initially were coming over every other day to see the baby, which then decreased to about twice a week, since he has been 3 months old. My wife has begun having major issues with my parents coming to see our son twice a week now. Perhaps what is most irritating to me is the fact that I anticipated this issue beforehand. I specifically asked my wife when our son was 1 or 2 months old "how often would you be okay with my parents coming to see him?", and her answer was "I would be so happy if it was just twice a week", (which she felt would be a huge improvement over the every other day they were initially coming when our son was a newborn). I assured her that twice a week was very reasonable and she said she'd be happy with that. Fast forward to now -- my mom comes to visit twice a week for 3-4 hours and my wife says its too much. She says it's suffocating, that she shouldn't have to live her life around my mom seeing our son (which my wife does not, she always tells my mom which days to come, and they are different each week depending on what my wife wants to do), that she feels like she had a kid just for my mom to play with. Again, my mom is never insistent on what days or even times to see our son. She certainly appreciates seeing him regularly, and I always wanted my son to have a close relationship with his grandparents (both sides), as both myself and my wife did growing up. However, my wife's parents do not live near us (and don't come to visit that often). I think this plays a role in terms of her being irritated that my family sees him regularly, but I don't see any solution. Her family is financially able to visit us (very regularly) if they wanted to, but they don't make it a priority. Again, her parents are wonderful people, but they seem to be more interested in their own lives and relationships than they are in forging a deep connection with our son, their grandson (I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, but it's the opposite of my family who really want to be close with their grandson, even if it's at the expense of time with their own friends). I should also add that for the past 3 years my wife has not worked. This started prior to us getting married. She left her job because she hated it, and I am lucky to be in a position to financially support us on my own. However, she always told me she would (& wanted to) get a job in a field that she was more interested in, though she has never been able to articulate what that field would be (actually she was adamant that she would have a job before we got married). I tried to encourage her to find fields that appealed to her, even advised her to take risks with entrepreneurship, to see if she could make a career out of something she considers a hobby. I've paid for countless courses, certifications, etc. (90% of which she did not complete -- things like real estate certifications, social media certifications, photography lessons, camera lenses, etc.). Furthermore, I paid for her to see a therapist of her choosing for a few months hoping it would help her gain clarity with regards to what she wants to do career-wise (it did not). All in all, I've probably spent in the neighborhood of 7-8K on online courses, certifications, and she does not have anything to show for it. Once we got pregnant, we agreed that she would take on more of a domestic role (which is what she said she wanted as well, I did not force her into this -- and she was also not doing anything else for work anyway). The point I'm making here is not that I feel she needs to work, it is just that she gets to see our son all the time (it's not like she's going to work and handing our son off to my mom). Also, many times my wife will say "Oh why don't you come on Monday" when we see my mom (which my mom will then do). Then Monday rolls around and my wife is texting me at work all day constantly complaining about how my mom is interacting with our son (she doesn't watch him closely enough, or she doesn't put him in his crib to nap, or she feeds him when she's not supposed to, etc.), how long my mom is staying, how she feels trapped in the house when my mom is there, etc. She basically wants my mom to come over for no more than 2 hours and then leave (again we live about 40 minutes apart). This issue she has with my mom seeing our son a couple of times a week for a few hours, has started to cause bigger and bigger fights between us. Part of me understands that my wife's lack of her own social circle of close friends, and not having family nearby is contributing to her unhappiness with our current situation. But the other part of me can't help but feel like I've done everything in my power to help, and it feels that she is just complaining about my mom because she's unhappy with where she is in life. I have tried helping her find a career that she would like, I have tried telling her she can remain a stay at home mom if she wants, I have tried getting her a therapist to help her work through her issues, I have tried encouraging her to join mom & baby classes to meet new friends (which she now attends, but hasn't made any real friends during them), I have offered to joint local couples meetups with her to meet new friends if that would make her more comfortable, I have encouraged her to invite the few local friends she does have over for dinner or even go out with them while I watch the baby, I have offered to move to a part of the city that is even further from my parents, and I've even offered to move cities altogether to be closer to her own family (although her family does not reside in just 1 city, they split time between a few). I've also told her to voice her issues to my mom and hash out whatever the issues are, but she says my mom will see it as disrespectful and "make things even more awkward" (which may in fact be true, but in that case I've told her we would just see my mom less, which is what she wants anyway...). Each time I suggest something, I feel that it is met with resistance or some excuse as to why it won't work (for instance when I suggest moving cities, she says no because I'll "use that against her" in the future if we fight). I'm just not sure where I can take it from here. I'm sure couples counseling has to be a part of the solution in some way, but I'm not sure what they are going to be able to offer that I haven't already tried. I guess I'm just looking for advice. My guess is my wife wants me to just straight up tell my mom she can't come over twice a week anymore (but I could see my wife having a problem even if it was just once a week), for no good reason. My mom has no idea my wife despises her, and me just randomly telling my parents they can't come over anymore for no apparent reason would cause a rift between me & them. I love my parents and they're only getting older. They're not going to live forever, and I would feel awful if I told them they just can't come to see their grandson because my wife doesn't like my mom for no particularly legitimate reason. Thanks in advance to whoever read through this, and for whatever advice you can provide. TLDR - I feel like I've bent over backwards to make my wife happy but she still has a major issue with my mom that I don't know how to resolve.

2024.05.21 19:36 dorseyhorsey[Online] [5e] [21+] [LGTBQ+ friendly] [PST Weekdays] Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk - newbie friendly!
Hi everyone! Thanks for peeking in. I’m new to the DM role and hoping to pull a group of 4-5 players together to run Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk. This is a good adventure for beginners because it starts out very “classic Dnd” with a little mountain village to help and treasure to get before opening up into bigger, otherworldly threats, and especially for people interested because of BG3 because a lot of the ideas will be familiar (goblin camps, mind flayers, ect). Experienced players are more than welcome as well, though! About the campaign: Last night, you were at a wedding. And today, the newlyweds are missing, kidnapped by goblins on their way to the village of Phalandin, to reopen a mine that was abandoned many years ago under mysterious circumstances. As you investigate the disappearances and get to know the village near the mine, you begin to realize that it was abandoned for a good reason – and whatever horrors were lurking there are no longer contained. This campaign will go through levels 1-13. *Time: Roughly 5-9 pm PST, Wednesday or Thursday. (semi-flexible but has to be a weekday) Looking to start week after next, but might have a session 0 before then - alternatively we can hash things out over discord. *LGBTQ+ friendly REQUIRED, not only is the inciting incident a gay wedding, but we don't need jerks around. Any kind of bigotry (racism, sexism, ableism, ect) at all will get you ejected from the game. *Age range 21+, this campaign has horror themes that will on occasion get a little nasty, and I’m 31 and would be more comfortable playing with adults. *Logistics: we'll use discord for voice, dndbeyond for character sheets, and Owlbear Rodeo for maps. *Gameplay/tone: The adventure as written is pretty even between RP and combat, but I'm happy to lean one way or the other if players prefer. As said above, the back half of this campaign contains a good amount of chaotic horror elements. Otherworldly entities, body horror, PC transformations and the like are all on the table. *Character building: Any official subclass/race is fine if you can justify their presense here (why would a githyanki bother hanging around a little mining village on the Sword Coast?) Since this campaign has more of a serious tone, what with the cosmic horror of it, please keep that in mind for character creation. Comic relief is great and sometimes even necessary but please don't give me a straight up joke character. *Backstories – I want to see your backstory and find a way to integrate it into the story and cook up a sidequest that relates to it! But please keep in mind we are starting at level 1 so it should not be a novel. One page or less is fine! I'll provide some hooks to tie your character to the area and the important NPCs that you can use if you like. If all that sounds good to you, great! Comment here and/or send me a DM, you can do that through reddit or discord @rackhams. Hope to hear from you!
