A little background: Most of my experience with coding so far is pretty basic. Made an app through MIT App Inventor for a course in school.(Basically coding using blocks). Just some basic python here and there. In essence, I am familiar with the very very very basics of programming (Variables, loops, conditions, lists, etc). I also had a handle of basic html (Though I'll have to revise some stuff).
Basically, I would be starting the Odin Project from a place where I have only a very loose grasp of some concepts.
My question is, from this starting point, what should be the ideal amount of time to spend each week/each day doing the Odin Project?

So I've been studying Computer Science Engineering in college for about 2.5 years, the thing is that the teachers suck and I feel like I've not learned a lot and a many of my classmates feel the same to the point that 90% of the class uses chat gpt to make the code that the teachers request.
The teachers sometimes teach very basic stuff and want you to make some complex app.
I really enjoy programming but still feel like a beginner and sometimes I don't even feel like I know the basics and may need to review them.
Is there any good course on youtube or website to learn programming that you recommend? I don't think I'm learning a lot in class.

What a way to end the season! The boys in blue fought their hearts out today, securing a 2-1 victory against Bournemouth and a crucial top-six finish. Caicedo stole the show with a wonder goal from his own half (seriously, go watch it if you haven't!), followed by a clinical finish from Sterling to put us 2-0 up. We had a scare with Badiashile's own goal, but the boys held on for the win.

The celebrations don't stop there! Our incredible Women's team wrapped up their WSL campaign in style yesterday with a dominant 6-0 victory away to Manchester United! This win marks their 7th title overall, and their 5th consecutive championship!
It's a bittersweet day as we say goodbye to some incredible players: Emma Hayes, a true Chelsea legend and mastermind behind the Women's team's success; Pernille Harder, a world-class striker; Eriksson, a midfield maestro; and of course, the one and only Super Fran Kirby. Your impact on the club will never be forgotten.

I’m currently a senior in high school, and I’m nervous as hell about majoring in CS. I never had any experience with coding in school and never took CS-related APs either. The only reason why I chose CS is because graduates often have strong job prospects with a CS degree (also the fact that I’ve no clue what I want to major in) and I want to start making money asap after I graduate with a bachelor’s. However, it seems that the market is oversaturated with many graduates unable to land jobs solely with a CS degree. I want to ask if it’s still worth it for me to pursue CS. I heard the major is rigorous and is mostly theoretical and doesn’t involve much coding. I’m not sure if I do well with theories…Should I pursue SE instead? I’m still interested in coding and plan on learning one lang (either python or java) before I move onto campus. Maybe I should give CS a try before switching? But I’m really not sure if I want to pursue a major in a field that’s highly competitive and oversaturated in the job market. However, BU is ranked ten for employability—that makes me feel a little better ig.

This is basically just a rant/venting post which I don't have a lot of others who I can share or discuss this with.
To give you all a little context, I'm probably a little different from most of the other INFPs that I see inside of this sub. After many years of work experience, I've learned how to suppress the "INFP" side of my personality for the most part at work. I used to so shy and timid that during my first job as a cashier that I couldn't even look at my customers in the eye and speak properly with them. Now, I work in senior management for a small mid size business. I handle small talk just fine with my colleagues, I can give presentations out to a large group of people, I can attend large social events without acting too abnormal for the most part.
However, as the economy has somewhat affected our business over the past few years, we've had to shave down on many perks and cultural aspects of the company. We used to celebrate things like Employee of the Month, Employee Birthdays, have quarterly parties and events, big Christmas parties, giveaways and prizes, free snacks and beverages and overall company morale used to be very good and I was very happy to be a part of a company that treated their people right. Nowadays, we'll be deemed lucky to have a pizza party every half year. Staff benefits have also been cut (company no longer covering all insurance premiums and makes staff split a portion).
My personal philosophy is that the company wouldn't exist if it weren't for all of our employees. However, the rest of management now deem them all replaceable and basically whenever a chance arrives, they would try to replace the person with a remote hire from India or the Philippines where wage is significantly lower. I try my best to speak on behalf of our local staff, but now I have a big target on my back as well because I don't seem "aligned with the company values".
My company now also wants to implement mandatory external learning (basically read, learn, take courses on your own time) for management and that has been especially hard for me. It takes me at least one day to unplug and recover so basically on Saturday I'm just a sack of potatoes that can't really function at all. Then on Sunday I recover a bit and do my own personal chores, hobbies and etc, so I've been really failing to keep up with everything.
I think this is probably why there aren't a lot of INFPs in management/corporate because a lot of things really go against our core ideals. I've been feeling massive burnout for a while now and it's gotten to a point where it's affecting many aspects of my life. I've had to take random sick days at times to cope, but that has also been frowned upon.
Anyways, like I said this is basically just a rant and nothing more. I'm not really expecting any advice or anything since I already kind of know what I must do to help protect my own sanity and mental health. I do wish more companies would see the value of maintaining a good work culture and keeping their employees happy instead of just looking at their bottom line. There are many intangible measures that companies don't want to consider or just simply choose to ignore since they think it's a hassle.

I haven’t been back here in maybe ten years and my ‘friends’ were the staff at a bar I worked at for two months, transient work by its very nature. Especially in Rome. I think about maybe pulling out my phone and googling it but it’ll take too long and I don’t want to waste the battery or not be looking at my surroundings for too long.

What the hell is his problem? The insolence of it! The actual insolence! I smiled as I said I’m busy for fucks’ sake. I have a disgust response from the way he speaks as it plays back in my head. You ghat a problehm with blaq people? Flat vowels from the Global South. I could smell whatever ersatz cologne he’d doused himself in. Big, dumb bicycle chain wrapped around his neck. I could barely make out this heckler’s face, he was so overweight he was drowned in fat, and he threw his arms up in the air so his bony elbows came out at weird, jutting angles.
My mood is completely ruined so I turned right, catching the sun, cutting off a man walking a Chow dog who I presume follows after me.
My sunglasses are in my pocket and for whatever reason I lose the will to actually pull them out so I’m walking blind into glare. Was everyone still looking at me? The sun is beating down and on top of that the wind is blowing directly into my face. I can’t see anything and I feel prickly heat around my flanks. Maybe a tweed jacket was the wrong choice, but I’m not going to take it off and drape it over my shoulder right now. I do not want to be perceived.
I start thinking about the street venders from ten years ago, how friendly they all were. That’s not a thing anymore, I guess. I force all that from my mind and as I’m walking I involuntarily start thinking back to when I was little.
I was six, maybe seven, and my mother was in the hospital so I was being looked after by my father. It took him maybe three days to stop bothering to make sure I had a bath or brushed my teeth. Maybe a week before he stopped doing laundry. About three weeks in he was forced to start taking me to school again; somebody had mentioned something to my grandmother who came round to shout at him. He reckoned I could learn everything I needed from watching television.
The other kids were not a fan of my new look, and the bullying was horrible. Already a lonely child, I was further isolated from my peers by my appearance and odour. I had an initial grace period, I’m sure Miss. Euston had prepped everyone that my mother was sick and everyone was to be very nice to me.
The great mass of my appearance, greasy and smelly, eventually pulled through the gravity of Miss. Euston’s authority, and finally I slipped through her graces and into the bottomless pit of cruelty only children are capable of.
One night when the rest of the class was dismissed she kept me back to talk to me.
“How are you, John?”
Fine.
“I hear your mummy will be back soon? Isn’t that great?”
Yes.
“Maybe you should tell your dad to give you a bath before she gets home, yes?”
Yes.
“Is your dad coming to pick you up today?”
I don’t know.
She smiled at me put her hand to my face. It was warm and soft and I could feel the sea-salt sweat from her palms. It was comforting. Maybe that’s why I’m a cuddler now. She gave me a chocolate bar from her treat tin and let me go. My dad did actually pick me up that day. He asked me where I got the chocolate bar from and I said Miss. Euston gave it to me. I never ate it, at some point it must have been thrown away.
I realized Miss. Euston was, probably, barely a few years older than I was now. I wonder what she was up to. At some point the buildings covered the sun and I checked my watch. Two more hours to go.
I see a free table on a raised mount and decide to sit there. I look up at the statues looking down at me and a waiter comes over and says I have to order if I want to stay there. This annoys me so I bark at him that I need a menu if I want to order anything. He leaves and the clouds open again, probably by the wind, and it beats down on me again. Feeling more grounded I take off my jacket and drape it over my chair and take the cigarettes from the inside pocket. I looked at my phone and re-read the invitation email.

It was certainly an honor to be asked, but no doubt was being used to drum up engagement for some useless course they were peddling. How exactly does International Relations parse into International Project Management? You learn everything you need to know doing the damn job. I had emailed myself my famous slide deck, the one that was thrown around in secret by senior bureaucrats who were sick of being bureaucrats and wanted to actually do something. The one that Managers said could never be released, but had obviously plagiarized in snippets when they thought appearing to be daring would be beneficial to their careers.
A brunette waitress comes over with the menu, she looks young. Maybe 18. Over a decade younger than me.
If you don’t mind getting up, she said in a startling American, there’s a buffet as well.
I say thank you and look at her. Was she American? American-Italian? She looked British. Maybe Danish. I didn’t want to ask. She was pale, apart from her lips and cheeks which were the color of a rose.

Of course, she said and took out a notepad and pen. The other wait staff used an iPad. I wondered where hers was and asked for a double espresso and a glass of orange juice.

I smile and her and mime a glass growing from very small to very tall. How tall is the glass? Is it a lot of orange juice?
She smiles and laughs and it’s very cute, I think she lost her composure because the laugh doesn’t match her voice.
I run my hand through my hair because I need something for my hands to do, and she says yeah. It’s tall. Pretty big. Are you going far after this?
I dunno. There’s some people trying to kill me. I smile again, obviously a joke.
She smiles back. You should have the buffet and I’ll bring you your drinks. I’ll leave the jar of orange juice but don’t tell anyone, OK?

I check how far the walk is and it’s maybe 40 minutes, too far in this weather. Will it rain? Will I literally burn to a crisp? I wish I had brought my laptop so I could have the slide deck up. I could ask the waitress what she thought.
She comes back with my coffee and a cold glass of orange juice, and a jug of water.
Sorry, she says, my manager told me to only pour the juice.
That’s fine, I think I’m only 40 minutes away. Like three miles.
You won’t be able to walk three miles in forty minutes, she says. You should eat quickly, then get up and go.
I dunno, I say, drawing out my response. I’m quite tall.
She laughs again and says she’ll bring my cheque now.
I get up and make a plate of pastry, the meat looks like it had been left out so I avoided it. I grabbed some things I don’t know the name of, and a slice of bread that was being warmed on a terracotta platter over some coals.
She walks away and when she comes back I want to ask for her number, but there’s a huge delivery truck slowly rolling through. My cup is shaking in its’ saucer and if it wasn’t already mostly drunk it’d run over. I try to make conversation but I don’t want to shout at her so just give her 30 euro and say keep the tip. She shouts back thanks. I get up and start walking.
The sun won out against the rain and it started to pound me again. The air was dry. I was walking fast and making good time, but I did not want to end up sweaty when I got there so I took off my jacket and carried it under my arm. I checked my phone again and I had a missed call and a voice mail. I couldn’t see the name in the glare.
I couldn’t stop to put earphones in, so I put my phone away.
I managed to make it to the campus with five minutes to spare. I hullo’d with the professors and asked for a glass of water. I drank it in one then went to the bathroom to piss, and check my hair. I was sweating but my jacket would cover it. My hair looked great. I clenched my jaw and looked at my face. Intense. Satisfied, I blew my nose and in my head went over the topics I’d cover. If I got lost I’d ask the students questions.
For some reason I thought back to Miss. Euston, looking after the poor scapegrace that was me. I remember once she told me God was in the wind.
I was waiting in the wings, hidden on a pre-stage before the main stage. Before I put my phone on silent, I thought I’d listen to the voice mail quickly. I briefly thought it "pre-stage" was even a word. I didn’t recognize the number. I pressed play and raised it to my ear.
There was a pause and then, cutting through the roar of the wind once present but no longer, came a voice.
“Hi, John, I hope you’re well and I’m just calli-“
The voicemail stopped. Someday, I hope, Apple will figure out how to actually let me hear my voicemail without constantly having to un-pause it. I hit play and put my phone back to my ear but I knew who it is before she said her name. “I’m just calling to say hey. It’s me, Joanne.”

I just finished junior year of my undergrad program with a B.S in psychology (bio minor), and I will be applying during this next rotation during the fall. The following is what I currently have going for me:

• 3.945 cumulative GPA
• Semester long research project via research methods II class and poster presentation on campus
• Advanced statistics undergrad TA
• Will be a part of an 8 week research program this summer working with an epidemiologist, and I should be published in an undergrad journal at the end of it
• Will likely TA for an undergrad research methods course this coming semester
• Several profs. that have stated they'd write a strong LOR for me
• Part of our campus's honors program through which I'll be completing a senior thesis. This will still be in progress during my applications.
• Comfortable with public speaking (interned for 2 years at a church where I would teach classes and occasionally preach.)
• First gen college student (I don't know if this is even something to include during apps, but I figured I'd lay out everything)

I haven't taken the GRE yet, but I plan on spending this summer studying for it and taking it right before the semester begins. I don't currently have many schools particularly in mind, but Vanderbilt is my top choice as of right now. Do I seem like a strong applicant? Is there anything I can do to strengthen my applications before they're sent in?

Hoping I can get some good advice from the group. I’m a later-in-career PhD researcher who landed in a position where I’ve been asked to do some computer things- managing websites, etc. don’t ask how this happened because I don’t know. I’m strong at using SPSS, R, and SQL but for actual analysis, I don’t know anything about programming or coding. Since the duties were forced upon me (I realize website development is not coding, but it’s still “scary computer stuff” to me), I decided I might as well go all in and try to learn something totally new that could be interesting and financially beneficial. I did order a basic coding for beginners book for Python and have been working through that. I thought about cyber security and also AI. The problem is I don’t really know where to start as far as education goes. There’s an associate degree program at the local community college for cyber security, and another community college has a programming boot camp. Would it be better to do a general programming boot camp or a cyber security associates? Which one will more naturally lead to learning and working with AI? Am I even smart enough to handle any of that? Literally the only coding I’ve ever done was in middle school in the 80s on DOS. It was a required course in the gifted track I was in and it was horrid. Typing out pages only to hit run and nothing happened. Then going back through all the typing to find my errors. I was turned off forever- until now. Thanks for any info you can offer!

Firstly, the house has mold. It always had, but I’ve kind of just dealt with it because I don’t have better options at the time.
Secondly, the pipes are very bad and constantly have bad leaks. Starting 4/30 I got another bad one in my room. The second time in 2-3 months my entire ceiling has been opened and exposed the entire time I was living there. I never received any accommodations for temporary living. I just had to live in that room like it was.
I work from home & do a lot of important work on my computer. This prevented me from doing a lot of work and caused me to lose a lot of money, due to missed opportunities. It’s not 5/19 and the work still hasn’t been finished.
On 5/16 I signed a new lease and just moved out. Under California Civil Code 1942: if a rental property is unlivable for any reason, a 30 day notice isn’t required to move out.
She is saying that I am breaking the lease by not doing 30 days, and refuses to reimburse my rent, or security. (Already in the new place)
I have a plethora of pictures documenting water leaking, mold, chewed through insulation & more.
She doesn’t seem to take me serious when I say I am going to report her and call a lawyer about it.
I know the course of action that needs to be taken, and I will be contacting a lawyer, but beyond that, I do not know the specific agencies I should contact & would like some sort of direction if anyone is willing to help.

Hi, everyone. I've worked for the same company in the South East for nearly ten years, starting in a junior role and working my way up to the Head of Marketing in a senior leadership team of 5. I'm currently earning a salary in the mid-40s. However, I'm feeling overwhelmed and unsure if this is normal or if it's time for me to move on.
The company has been losing money for years, and the blame falls on marketing despite issues in other departments. I manage a multi-million-pound marketing budget and have had minimal direct support (between 0 and 2 reports) throughout my time here. I'm responsible for all marketing channels (10-15) as well as the website, SEO, and CRO. I try to keep things going and improve, but I always feel like I'm fighting fires and don't have the opportunity to excel because I'm spread so thinly across many departments and channels.
I put together (what I consider) realistic budgets based on previous data but am told to change the numbers to show they'll make more money, only to be judged on underperformance later.
I quit last year, and in response, I was shown an email claiming I was lashing out and blaming the company for my poor mental health (don't ask why I stayed).
I'm frequently shown emails and told about conversations complaining about me, holding me responsible for the failure of collectively agreed-upon decisions. The owner loves working and claims to work 24/7, leading many employees to work well beyond their contracted hours. Most people here have been with the company for 10, 20, even 30 years, and over time, have had their self-confidence beaten down and are scared to change.
I'm tired all the time, carrying the weight of the company's success with very little support. I understand senior roles aren't always easy and often involve taking work home, but I'd like honest opinions:

1. Are these expectations typical for a senior marketing role in a similar-sized company?
2. Have you experienced a similar situation in your career, and how did you handle it?
3. Are my expectations for a healthier work-life balance unreasonable for the role I'm in?

I've started applying for other jobs, and while I know the grass isn't always greener, I want to make an informed decision. Your insights and experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So, in the past I've mentioned that I use AI to assist in writing code for my personal projects, especially for things I use to automate stuff for myself, and I've gotten pretty mixed responses. Some folks say they do the same, others say AI can never write good code. I ran into a similar mindset among professionals in my field, and it made me realize that maybe folks are simply using AI differently than I am, and that's why our viewpoints are so different on it.
Before I begin, a little about where I'm coming from: I'm a development manager , and I've been in the industry for a while and even went to grad school for it. So when you read this, please keep in mind that this isn't coming from a non-dev, but rather someone who has a pretty solid bit of experience building and supporting large scale systems.
Also, if you read this and think "Why do all this when I can just ask it for code and it works?" This guide is for building large scale systems that are clean, maintainable, and as well written as you can personally muster. Yes, there's redundant work here and yes there's still a lot of work here. But, in my experience, it has not only sped up my personal development but also made it really fun for me and allows me to churn out features for hours on end without getting remotely fatigued.

My AI Development Rules

First: The rules I follow when coding with AI to get the most benefit

• Keep context low, because most AI I've found degrade in quality as the context gets larger. Make new conversations often, and rely on editing existing messages to reuse context. For example, if the AI produces a chunk of code and I have a question about it, I might follow up and ask my question. Then, if I see a second, unrelated, question- I might edit the first question that I asked and replace it with my second question, after which I regenerate the AI's response.
• When asking the LLM to review code, do it in a new chat and tell it ANOTHER AI wrote the code. Not you, not it, but a separate AI. My prompt usually looks something like: "I presented the following requirements to another AI [your reqs here] Please review the code critically and critique it, refactoring as necessary". I've found that LLMs are too nice when I say I write it, and double down when I say that they wrote it.
• This isn't just about time savings, but mental energy savings. This means creating a workflow that saves the developer as much effort as possible by engaging the dev only at specific moments. There may be times reading this where you think "Why do this extra step BEFORE looking it over?" Because the AI can produce a response in 2 minutes or less, while a human can take 5-10 minutes to do the review, and that is energy spent. It will make you tired. I'd rather burn some AI time to get it right before the dev engages
• Do not rely on the AI entirely. Think of the AI as a junior developer- would you task a junior developer with a large scale application and not even review it? Of course not. With AI, you have a junior dev trapped in a little box, writing any code you want. Use that junior dev appropriately, and you'll get a lot of benefit.

Important Note: I always use 2 AI. Always. If you dont have a local AI, then Mistral has le chat for free, and you could use free chatgpt 3.5 If you have high end subscriptions, like Claude Opus and ChatGPT 4 Turbo, even better.
I prefer local AI models for various reasons, and the quality of some like WizardLM-2 8x22b are on par with ChatGPT 4, but use what you have available and feel most comfortable with.
You CAN use just 1, but different models have different training, and may catch things.

Phase 1: Architecture

AI is terrible at architecture, so this is mostly you. You don't have to deep dive down to, say, the innehelper method level, but at a minimum you want to document the following:

1. What is the project about? What are the requirements of the project, in a concise format that you can repeat to the AI over and over again whenever you pose a question to it?
2. What does "Done" look like? This is for your benefit, really. Scope creep is miserable, and you have no one to reign you in as the stakeholder. Trust me; my current project should have been done weeks ago but I won't... quit... adding... features...
3. What classes/modules/packages should exist? Lay the program out in your head. What is each responsible for? How does it flow?
4. At a high level, what kind of methods should each have? If you have a LoggingService, do you want a "Log(message)" method? If you have a FileManagerService, do you have a "ReadFile(fileName)" or "ReadFile(filePath)" or something else?

During this phase, you can present the answers to #1 and #2 to your AI and ask it for an architectural breakdown, but don't just use its answer. This is just to help you get over mental blocks, give you something to think about, etc. Write your own architecture. A big reason is because you, above all, need to know this project's structure inside and out. It will be harder for you to keep track of your project if you didn't write your own architecture.

Phase 2: The Coding

Below is the workflow I use. I understand that for many people this will feel like an unnecessary number of steps, but for me it has resulted in the highest quality that I've found so far, and has sped my development up massively... especially when working in a language I'm not intimately familiar with (like python. I'm a C# dev lol).
Yes, you can get code from AI far faster than what I'm about to say by simply asking for it and moving on, but the goal for me here is quality, developer understanding of the code, and adherence to the developer's style of coding. I want to write code that is clean, maintainable, scalable, and other developers at least won't want to set fire to if they look at it lol
Note: When making my first coding prompt of a conversation to the AI, I almost always include the answer to #1 from Architecture above- the breakdown of requirements for the full project. That context can sometimes help it better understand what you're trying to achieve.

• Step 1: Look over your architecture and pick a feature.
• Step 2: Present the requirements to the first AI (whichever you want to use first; doesn't matter), as well as the high level overview of the classes and primary methods that you want. I generally formulate a prompt similar to this: "Please write python code to read from a file and present the contents to the user. I'd like the code within a module called 'file_utilities', with a class 'FileManager' that has a method called 'read_file' that takes in a file name. I'd then like this called from a module called 'display_utilities', which has a method called 'display_contents_of_file'. This prints to the console the contents of that file. Please consider these requirements, give any critiques or criticism, and write out a solution. If you feel another path would be better, please say so."
• Step 3: Copy the requirements and response. Start a new chat. Paste both, telling it that you asked another AI to write the solution, and that was the response. Ask it to please critique and refactor.
• Step 4: Copy the requirements and the new response. Go to AI #2 (if applicable) and ask it the same question as above.
• Step 5: Take the final response and code review it yourself. How does it look? Do you see any obvious flaws? Anything you want to change? Rename any helper methods as necessary. Consider whether any of it looks unnecessary, convoluted, redundant, or simply has a code smell.
• Final Step: Take the code, the requirements, and all of your feedback, and start over from step 2, doing the whole flow again if necessary.

While this may seem like it would be exceptionally time consuming, I can tell you that this workflow has worked amazingly for me in saving both time and energy. I'm usually dead tired at the end of a workday, and I simply don't have the mental energy to write code for another 4-5 hours straight. Because of this, I put off personal projects for YEARS. But by doing this, it allows me to get roughly similar quality to my own work when I'm fresh, while pawning off the labor portion of the dev to the AI.
I do the thinking, it does the efforting.
I would expect that steps 2, 3 and 4 will take around 5 minutes total. Step 5 will take 10-20 minutes depending on how much code is involved. Another loop will take another 15-25 minutes. So 1 feature will take around 20-60 minutes or so to produce. But the key here is how much mental energy you, as the developer, conserved while still maintaining tight control over the code.
Also note that this workflow won't work for EVERYTHING. Context limits can make it simply infeasible to engage the AI in some tasks. Say you've got 6 classes that are all working together on a function, and you realize there's an odd bug that you can't figure out where it is in that workflow. More than likely, you won't find an AI capable of handing that amount of context without degraded quality. In those cases, you're on your own.
Anyhow, I know this is lengthy, but I wanted to toss this out there. This workflow has worked amazingly for me, and I intend to continue refining it as time goes.

My Background: I'm a pure mathematics PhD and work part-time as a finance assistant (24hpw, not interesting as work and no progression unless I'm there for eternity). I'm so ready to move onto better things, it served its purpose. I've experienced a few economic, health and personal shocks in my life since 2021, my studies have suffered and its taken me a lot longer to finish than others in my cohort. I'm happy to disclose more in a private message if necessary for particular advice you want to give. I had research internships during my undergraduate so no industrial experience, I am looking and applying all over the place for entry roles, that story. All my rejections mention my lack of experience understandably. I cannot afford courses or training.
What's happened: Alongside juggling this I'm thinking about what's next. I've managed to find and regularly go to local networking events in Data, Cloud computing and Coding. Its been invaluable. At one event I got chatting to a guy giving me sound advice about what companies to apply for, we couldn't finish the conversation until after the event and he had to leave early, I reached out we met for lunch last Friday. It was really positive. We talked about what the Data Engineering role is, his experience with clients and looking for jobs, he asked about my experience in software, languages etc and he was floating a project he's involved in that will be active next month or so. At the end of the conversation he asked me to send over my CV. All things considered it went well, I got a lot of advice and he was informing me of other mathematicians ways in. Its just I'm not sure what his plan is, I said I'd love to join his team in some capacity if possible. From the conversation I got the impression he was considering me as a candidate but also that he was a very nice person wanting to pass some wisdom and advice.
What I want in an ideal world: To hand in my 1 month notice and work for him in a capacity to get experience or a full-time job as soon as possible.
I've never done something like this before or have family or friends who have and often I can usually be a bit too direct in situations like this to my detriment. I'm going to send him over my CV but I'm not exactly sure what to ask or say alongside it, I'm struggling to find the right words but I do not want to let this opportunity pass. This is where you come in!
