2024.05.07 11:51 portable-solar-power How to write fast in good handwriting?

This question gets asked a lot and I think for some people it's essentially all they want. They're not in actual penmanship and don't want extraordinary expertise in it. It's just the work/job they do that requires them to write sort of neatly/legibly and fast. It's like a survival skill for them.
You cannot write super fast and expect it to be looking perfect. Similarly, you cannot write super neatly and assume that you'd be able to do it quickly. A balance between the two is crucial for sufficiently good and efficient handwriting.
The solution is to stick to the basics. Simple handwriting is fast and it could be neat and clean at the same time. Handwriting doesn't have to be fancy if you are in a time limit. To be efficient, you'll need to focus only on the things that matter.
Cursive is not fast, nor is print. What you're more proficient in makes one fast over the other. It's strange that, for some people, cursive with more loops, long flourishes and more character takes less time to write than simple letter-to-letter printing. For some, print is fast no matter how fast the cursive is for others. Learning cursive is not the solution to writing faster as this advice is thrown around all the time whenever someone asks a similar question.
Another piece of advice people give is to write smaller. You still need to do the same hand movements and efforts to complete a certain letter so it won't help that much. It's not the best thing you can do to be faster.
Picking a font for inspiration isn't necessary if speed is the priority. Making your handwriting look a certain way similar to a font takes the second place.
If you are supposed to show your written work to someone else, legibility should not be a concern.
Certain letters don't look how they should (according to the standard letter chart which everyone knows and writes/reads) which creates legibility issues.
Improving your letter formation and making them look how they're supposed to be is a perfect starting point to boost the legibility aspect of your writing.
So one of the best advice that can be given to someone who's looking to improve their fast handwriting or handwriting in general is before making it fancy/eye-pleasing, make it fundamentally perfect. Know how each letter is to be formed up to standard. You can always add a style of your choice afterwards.
Tracing worksheets/workbooks could be a great starting point for studying letter strokes and letter formation. However, you'll need to practice with more than just worksheets on your own to be a better penman.
When writing quickly you already won't have much time to reflect on how you're doing so external help like using lined paper instead of blank would be the best thing to do. Lined paper not only makes you write in a straight line but helps you to be more consistent as you're writing between two parallel lines.

2024.05.07 09:07 EnvironmentalFun2151 Could you suggest some Vietnamese fonts for me?

Hi there! I'm creating a Korean textbook for Vietnamese learners and would like to incorporate fonts that are familiar to Vietnamese readers.
I'm looking for recommendations for the following:
  1. Basic font for body text (words, examples): A font that is commonly used in Vietnam for writing text.
  2. Title font for book cover: A font that is eye-catching and suitable for book titles.
  3. Comic book font (or a cute font): A font that is fun and friendly, reminiscent of Vietnamese comic books.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.07 05:26 FanFirv2 HISTORY OF CREATING MINE FIRST WEBSITE! 1-12 days!

HISTORY OF CREATING MINE FIRST WEBSITE! 1-12 days!
So I decided to create my first portfolio website. I want to find a job after the technical school, because they don't teach me very well here! I don't want to go to work in a factory…
This is my first serious article, don't judge me harshly!
Okay, let's go straight to day 1 of the site's creation.
At first, I thought about what my website would look like. The answer was not long in coming: I like one character from the Metely-Blood universe, and I decided to create a website dedicated to Neco Arc.
During the class, I took out my laptop and decided to make a technical task first. This will help me understand what needs to be done, and may also be useful in the future.
I named my website "Neko Brugnais". "Neko" is a reference to the name Neko Ark, and " Brugnais "is a play on words from" Brugna "and"site".
Then I started writing the terms of reference. It was standard: names, descriptions, basic requirements, font selection. I also decided to make a mobile version of the site. I set myself a deadline of September 1, 2024. I think I'll make it.
In addition, I went to FigJam, where I created a header layout and a menu for navigation.
Site Flowchart
Beginning of the Technical task
Second day of website creation!
I have improved the requirements for the technical task. It now includes responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and support for retina displays.
I also chose fonts for the site: Patsy Sans and Raleway. They look good and are suitable for this project.
Now I'm just starting to work on the site. During my training, I actively used Figma to study design.
The main color of the site is #6d395d, and the secondary color is #f5e6d8.
Шрифт дополнительный
Patsy Sans
Основной и Дополнительный цвет
And on the third day
Finally, I completed the technical task. I selected seven sites as samples and found a resource with code for buttons. Now I plan to add small animations to my website. This is just the beginning.
Full
Well, on the 4th day of creating the site!
I decided to start working on a website layout in Figma. First of all, I want to create the main page, but I won't stop there — I plan to develop several additional pages. The main page will contain a short version of the site, while other pages will be more detailed.

So 5 day!
I decided to create separate pages for the site. Here's what I plan to do:
* Each page will feature 50 pieces of art from our VKontakte group.
* There will be 50 photo memes.
* There will be 50 covers.
* And there will be a guide for creating your own AI cover.
But as for creating an Ent, I don't know what to do yet. It seems that this will simply be a description of what she does in the universe and in what works she appears.
https://preview.redd.it/bfhkz7vxaxyc1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=101d2acd8b63c50dcb46b9103c1a5ce9896c7ed2

And now we move on to day 6…
Unfortunately, my laptop overheated and I couldn't continue working. All the black pixels on the screen turned red. I tried to fix the problem, but without success. I spent most of my time trying to solve this problem. As a result, I created a frame only for the mobile version of the site.
https://preview.redd.it/iaskd67zaxyc1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53cacc8a0697e7c9f8c13155075368c1cd662b91

So, it's already 7 days!
I created a layout for the mobile version of the site. In general, it doesn't differ from the PC version, but I added a point about site adaptability.
My laptop needed some rest, and now it's working properly again.
https://preview.redd.it/u9mkd363bxyc1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f58783758ded74ec3a87a70acb73a59409cc1a13

And on the 8th day I got my sight!
I need to study not only at the technical school, but also at home! I decided that other hobbies could wait, but I had plenty of time.
I drew a logo in Adobe Illustrator and started painting it over. However, I noticed that I hadn't painted it between the eyes. Well, that's okay!
I also used a style from the library, which I found very cool!
I also created a button in the form of a 3D object, which flies up a little when hovering. In addition, I have a version with text on the buttons that I will use.
Unfortunately, due to lack of time, I managed to make only the background.
The 9th day of the website creation site is coming!
I started working on creating a navigation menu. I've already written a small HTML code for it.
And in 10 days, I decided to change the background!
I realized that it didn't look very good, but still decided to make changes to the terms of reference. I also decided to do an experiment and choose different colors for each page and each element of the main page. This may make the image too bright and chaotic, but I'm not very well versed in this issue yet, although I'm fond of design. Well, the first time can be forgiven.
11. Website Creation Day!
Today, on the first pair, I started creating the design of my website. I started with the header or navigation menu. Added buttons, but no text – I'll add them soon. I also want to fix the header and add working links, and then create a responsive design! The buttons will contain logs, so that everything is as it should be!
Yesterday I noticed that the design is not quite suitable for a first impression or slide, but more like "ent". There will be a description of who Neko Ark is, not a user greeting. Well, okay, I think I'll implement it later.
I want to experiment with the color theme to make it interesting. I know that you need to use 4 colors: white, black, primary and secondary. But that's okay!
I chose blue for the video memes and made them in 20 minutes. But I can see that it's not quite accurate. Nothing, it'll do for the first time. Then I'll change it in photoshop or Figma. I added a couple of videos to see what it will look like. I think it's fine!
But with AI Cover, it was hard. Today I spent about an hour and a half trying to feel the proportions. I see that it's not exactly pixel accurate. Plus, the toxic yellow color makes you dizzy. We'll have to make it darker. I'll do it tomorrow.
Day 12 of website creation!
I created greetings for new users and a gallery that works like a carousel. This means that you can scroll through the gallery to the right and left, and there will be 10 unique images!
It only took me an hour to create the gallery. I have already prepared the design in Figma and now I can see what it will look like. In general, at first glance, everything looks good.
I also made a basement of the site. You will need to make the icons white. Also, we need to work on the icon for a normal user.
Well, I'll have to correct all my spelling mistakes tomorrow. It's amazing how I don't notice them! You also need to design all the other pages so that they match the style of the main page.
This is my first big article, and it may not be completely clear. I don't even know how to write such voluminous texts myself.
I will be grateful for your advice and recommendations. I would like to know your opinion: am I doing everything right? Maybe you can tell me how best to write articles?
With that, I'll say goodbye. Thank you for your attention! If you are interested, you can read my first blog article about creating a website.

2024.05.07 05:20 Fun_Relief9867 [Hiring] Book cover artist, but maybe more of a book branding collaboration?

I am looking for an artist to work with! (I looked for a hiring flair, but didn't see one - sorry.)
For the book, it's a YA fantasy involving magical creatures. There are also lots of geometrical marks (not really sure what to call them — think of tribal tattoos) on different groups of people that play a large role in the story that I think could be fun visually. This is less of a "Lord of the Rings" fantasy and more of a "His Dark Materials" fantasy. Just for general vibes. (If there's anywhere else I should be posting/looking please let me know!)
For the project, I'm prioritizing a book cover. Ideally though, I'd love to partner with someone who is open to doing something more collaborative. I'm thinking a book cover, but also special markings for chapters/change of perspectives, stickers, some card/print design. Ideally, ideally, there would even be some illustrations in some of the more pivotal scenes in the book. This is all dependent on pricing.
Looking for an artist has actually been the hardest part of self-publishing for me, so I admit, I'm a bit overwhelmed. So a book cover would be the minimum, but I'd really love to find someone who is open to more of a cohesive book/print experience. But I'll take what I can get!
A little about my approach so far. I've been told to use Canva or AI. That's just not the route I want to go. I really would love to get creative with someone. Full transparency so I'm not wasting anyone's time: budget is tight. So just know pricing is a big part of my decisioning as this will be my first book. Doing the best I can. Totally open to take someone with less experience that might be more affordable. But willing to talk through items and find a good spot where we're both stoked. For reference, I'm starting off with a budget for book cover alone from $500-$1k. And then other items mentioned above would be added on/discussed from there.
Things I like/Catch my eye:
  1. I think 90% of the time showing human characters on a cover can look corny. 10% of the time, it can be amazing.
  2. I don't love super busy covers.
  3. Not a fan of super curly/cursive font.
  4. I like artists with really distinct styles that stand out and will choose them over someone who can make what's popular now. (I'm considering A/B testing two covers - one more original and one that is more "on trend".
  5. Love someone with opinions and preferences on how things should be done.
  6. If an artist can do book design/layout too, that's a plus.
Please comment with information about yourself or let me know if you have any questions. I will look at every portfolio shared and reach out from there. Please do not send me DM's. I've found whenever Inquire for an artist, I get flooded with messages with lots of work that's awesome but not super specific to what I've described above. Right now I just need to see what your work looks like and if I like it, I'll let ya know!
Thank you! I've been lurking on this channel for a bit, and already have checked out some of your work and have ya'll in my notes. Would just love to see if the description above brings out any artists that connect with the post. Thanks!

2024.05.07 03:53 HopWorksSix Python Debugging Command Line Incorrect with Using Arguments

Hi All,
I am sure I am missing something obvious, and VSCODE works great for me when debugging Python in WSL2 on my Windows 11 machine. But today I wanted to debug Python on Windows and I ran into an issue when trying to debug with arguments. I can debug fine if I click after the arrow and select Python Debugger: Debug Python File. The command line string that appears in the terminal is formatted just fine, and everything works great. But when I choose Python Debugger: Debug using launch.json, I get asked for another choice from a list... I choose Python Debugger: Current File with Arguments and that is when I get my error in the terminal. The command line string is not formatted correctly.
Here is the command line when I choose my first option "Python Debugger: Debug Python File"...
C:\Creative Imagination\code\python3\MediaTools\scripts> c: && cd "c:\Creative Imagination\code\python3\MediaTools\scripts" && cmd /C ""c:\Program Files (x86)\Python312-32\python.exe" c:\Users\hopwo\.vscode\extensions\ms-python.debugpy-2024.0.0-win32-x64\bundled\libs\debugpy\adapte../..\debugpy\launcher 60752 -- "C:\Creative Imagination\code\python3\MediaTools\scripts\fonts.py" "
And here is the command line when I choose my second option "Python Debugger: Current File with Arguments... launch.json"
c:\Creative Imagination\code\python3\MediaTools\scripts> c: && cd "c:\Creative Imagination\code\python3\MediaTools\scripts" && cmd /C "c:\Program Files (x86)\Python312-32\python.exe c:\Users\hopwo\.vscode\extensions\ms-python.debugpy-2024.0.0-win32-x64\bundled\libs\debugpy\adapte../..\debugpy\launcher 61165 -- C:\Creative Imagination\code\python3\MediaTools\scripts\fonts.py "
Notice the difference in the quotes at the end, and after '&& cmd /C'. The command-line string is formatted differently.
I have been trying for hours to find where I can edit how the command line string is constructed but I cannot find an option for that anywhere. All I can do is edit the launch.json, and I see no clues with...
{ // Use IntelliSense to learn about possible attributes. // Hover to view descriptions of existing attributes. // For more information, visit: "version": "0.2.0", "configurations": [ { "name": "Python Debugger: Current File with Arguments", "type": "debugpy", "request": "launch", "program": "${file}", "console": "integratedTerminal", "args": "${command:pickArgs}" }, ] }
It's not a big deal really... I write most of my Python stuff in WSL2-Ubuntu and using VSCODE with the remote connection works great for me with both types of debugging. The only reason I moved out of WSL to Windows is because I am learning TKinter and in WSL, I only had one font to pick from. When I tried my test code in Windows (outside of WSL2) I had 911 fonts to choose from. This is where I ran into my debugging issue.
Thanks for listening! I hope my oversite is not too obvious.

2024.05.07 00:20 Substantial_Nature84 Review - Small Lady D-Joy Bag Angel Factory from Betty/Tina

Review - Small Lady D-Joy Bag Angel Factory from Betty/Tina
This is my first rep bag. I brought jewelry, which I will eventually review, but this bag review is easier for me to do since I know this brand. I own some authentic designer items (LV, Chanel, Burberry, and Jimmy Choo—I'm a Jimmy Choo shoe fan) and have handled my friend's small Lady Dior.
  • Disclosure: Betty did ask me to write a review. However, I'm unsure if she will like the one that I'm offering.
Seller: Betty/Tina Wechat: Babalawa88. Please note that there is a review in LL that noted that she would switch bags out, but the PSP that she sent me was indeed the real bag. In that review, they noted that the bag broke. Thus, I will update it after a few uses or if this one breaks. In theory, this is from the Angel Factory, but after looking at some of the other Angle Factory rep pics, I'm 100% that this is that factory but maybe this one was not QC'd as much.
-Price: 1650 _280 shipping to US = 1930 CNY = 266 USD -Shipping method = FedEx Timeline: (the shipping was fast!) 4/27 - I reached out to her 4/28 - Paid 4/29 - PSP sent and Shipped 5/6 - Arrived
Photos: My photos and the PSP (I didn't know how to make separate albums but I did caption each photo): https://imgur.com/a/aHBz6v9
For the authentic photos, you can visit the Dior website
Review: The good points: The leather feels smooth and soft. The puffiness is quite good. At first look this can pass for the authentic.
The bad points: Minor stitching issues on both straps on the underside of the strap (-0.5)
Minor stitching slight mm misalignment on the sides of the bag (top part) - again, you’d have to be examining the bag to notice, but you can tell from like 1-2 feet away if you have a sharp eye (-1)
Bag charms sound lighter and feel lighter. Also, there is a gap in the hardware with closer exam. (-0.5)
The inside logo font is slightly off “h” (inside of the bag I did not deduct points here)
8/10. I would wear this around my normal people friends who are not luxury item connoisseurs. I would not let someone who knows luxury items touch this bag. I will not wear this around my designer collector friends who know their stuff. The snob with an eye for detail, especially if they know what they’re looking for, could call out the alignment issues at the top if they are allowed to handle the bag or even if they stare at the side of the bag without touching it for a few minutes.
I would not wear this into a boutique because I don’t like to wear reps into the actual store. I would certainly not let the sales associate handle this.
Seller: 9/10 She was friendly and sweet, and she shipped fast. However, she could have pointed out the flaw in the bag, like the irregular stitching on the side. But she did send me the PSP, so overall, it is on me that I did not notice it and asked her to look for another one.

2024.05.06 21:40 purplewinemouth Sample of my handwriting at 32 years old

I’ve always been told I just have “scary handwriting”, which I’ve always thought was just because I didn’t write in print until I was 11 years old (I went to a private school for my primary years and was only allowed to write in cursive). I’m also left-handed and partially deaf(I was born completely deaf in my right ear). I only recently learned about dysgraphia, and since I have struggled my whole life with the physical act of writing, I wonder if it’s because of this condition. I have also been diagnosed with ADHD in recent years. Thoughts?

Where did you learn cursive? Thank you for the little note cards and such, very cute and encouraging. I’m going to glue them onto my journal. 2024.05.06 20:41 Dwarfsten Writing/Holostreets Jam - May to August 2024

Welcome to my 2nd Writing/Holostreets Jam.
After the great success last year with some very cool releases (check them out), we are doing it again. Now listen up!

Rules

  1. Participating works must be created during the jam, works that were started beforehand but not finished/published are acceptable as well
  2. Participating works must be available through Holostreets
  3. Participating works must be available for free, or as a Pay-What-You-Want product, during the voting period (September 1st - 15th)
  4. Participating works must either be in English or include an English translation
  5. Participating works must contain an element inspired by one of the themes suggested below

Themes

There were a great number of excellent suggestions for themes, if you do not know what to write, consider focusing on one of them:
To add a challenge to the Jam, the one thing that every participating work must contain is: an element inspired by one of these themes
This could be an NPC, a location, a reference to a lore event or maybe part of your in-book layout references traditional art styles related to the theme.

Eligible works

Basically everything that is not expressly forbidden by the Holostreets Content Guidelines is acceptable. So of course adventures, equipment/setting/lore books are ok but also things like short stories, novels, art collections and many, many more things are just as acceptable.

Prizes

To participate leave a comment under this post with the link to the piece of work you'd like to enter. When you post your final work, don't forget to put the link to the Holostreets page into the post and 'u/Dwarfsten' me in it, so that there is no chance that I could miss it.
Once the duration of the Jam has passed I will open a new post where we can vote for the winner.
Just as during the last one, should my own work be in any of the prize-winning places then I will shift the respective prize to the next person in line.
Finally let me wish you all good luck and a productive Jam :) I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Helpful things
Here are some links that might help clarify things or help you get started:
Holostreets Content Guidelines
Drivethrurpg Content and Format Help - scroll down to 'How do I prepare the PDF of my title for sale?'
Shadowrun Logos - provided by Catalyst
Shadowrun Art Pack - provided by Catalyst, the link leads to the first one but there are six in total on Holostreets - in case you want some art to decorate your work
Single Page Template usable in Affinity Publisher and Adobe inDesign, probably also in Scribus (haven't tried it so use at own risk) - watch out, the Template contains Pay-To-Use Fonts for some reason, you need to either replace these or buy a license
Google Fonts - if you need any fonts, each has a tab which lists the used license (so you know if its free or not)
Unsplash - A page for mostly free to use stock images

2024.05.06 20:30 davidaddy Are my speed expectations unrealistic?

Are my speed expectations unrealistic?
Here are more print and cursive timed samples of my handwriting.
Going slow and carefully drawing each individual letter seems the way to go. When I move a little faster and write an entire word, it falls apart.
Are these speeds typical of legible handwriting?
If not, how do I keep the letters clear without stopping after each letter to plan the next one?
Been working on this for years. Thanks

2024.05.06 20:22 meepmeepitsajeep Why does font keep changing??

If anyone can help, the merlot font changes to this dopey looking font every time I edit, change style to writing etc. It's been doing this since I was forced to switch computers. I updated design space, I'm on windows 10. Idk what I'm doing wrong. I've literally used this font for all my wedding stuff and never had issues.

2024.05.06 19:21 From_Adam Drink This, Not That! Volume 4

Drink This, Not That! Volume 4
Are you getting out-tatered? Are you asking yourself why we’re going through all this nonsense to obtain bottles that not all that long ago were found on shelves everywhere? Maybe you don’t have a hookup, or maybe you’ve had to blow your rent or mortgage payment money to get a BTAC, or maybe you tented in front of a liquor store overnight because a Facebook post told you there’d be a Pappy available in the morning. Well I’m here to tell you, it doesn’t have to be this way. It is well past time to cut through the bullshit in the whiskey world. In this series, I’m gonna review tater bottles against something I think is very comparable (or better!) but most importantly, at least slightly more findable.
I should warn you, these reviews are going to be different than what you’re used to. I’m just an average dude, like most people. And like most people, I can’t pull out a dozen tasting notes from a whiskey. It’s a blessing in a way. It makes it easier to recognize when the emperor is not wearing any clothes but since palates are fickle things, your mileage might vary.
I knew some of these would make some people upset and that’s ok. I know there are those that need to be able to justify the ridiculous money they spend and maybe even the time they spend away from their families in their bourbon drop camp outs. And hey! I can empathize. I’ve overspent on a bottle or two, no concrete campouts though. I DO however, spend a lot of time camping in the mountains elk hunting though so I do have some solid advice for overnighters in the cold climates. I suggest picking up an insulated pop up ice fishing shanty and a Buddy propane heater. And if you have the room in the tent, a cot. Getting off the ground to sleep means everything. For less than the price of a secondary market BTAC, you can be set up with something pretty good, infinitely more useful than a bottle of whiskey and last a very long time. Now back to the topic at hand.
Batting lead off, a tater bottle that makes very little sense to me, Elmer T Lee. (Wait, is that it? The reason why BT/Saz has so many tater bottles? The three names thing? Pappy Van Winkle, Elmer T Lee, George T Stagg, William Larue Weller… Blanche T Ons….I’ll keep at it.)Yet another Buffalo Trace/Sazerac product, 90 proof, single barrel and no age statement. $45ish MSRP and 200-250 🦌 on the secondary market.
In the two hole (sorry, I’m watching the Twins game partially in the bag as I write this Oh look! A walk off!), we have a bottle from a relative newcomer distillery to the whiskey world, Nevada H&C Distilling Co. (sourced from MGP), the specific bottle Smoke Wagon Straight Bourbon Whiskey. 92.5 proof, a batched product with no age statement, usually $30-40ish out the door, never seen it on the secondary market, can’t imagine why it would be.
So this one is not an original take by any stretch. It’s very common to see ETL referred to as the best $30 juice in a $60 dollar bottle that $200 can buy. I was ‘lucky’ enough to scoop it up for a hondo around Christmas for a buddy at a kind of weird in-betweener store that doesn’t have unicorns at MSRP but also still wants to actually sell whiskey and not have a museum. I would have probably passed but my buddy has a soft spot for this one and had me on the lookout. And honestly, what are friends for? That’s right. Enabling bad decisions. Glad we all agree.
So anyway I met him and some college friends for a whiskey tasting-ice fishing weekend and I found it to be…..fine. There’s nothing offensive about it but it's only memorable quality is that it's so mediocre and people still go nuts for it. It is firmly dead center in the very meatiest part of the bell curve of all bourbon.
The Smoke Wagon was again acquired via sample trade group (highly recommend getting involved with one if you can, very fun). If you rate your bourbons on a 0 to 10 scale, take that hash mark above the five, zoom in and divide that hash mark perfectly in half again. That’s where you’ll find Smoke Wagon Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Completely unremarkable. It should be in a completely white bottle with black letters labeling it as “BOURBON” and nothing else. Nothing fancy for a font either. I’m talking Helvetica here.
Bottom line, neither of these is anything special. Perfectly acceptable at their MSRP price point but not one penny more. Put on a blindfold and throw a suction cup dart in the bourbon aisle and it’ll probably stick to something more interesting to drink. Pretty bottle though I guess.
