Making Aliens based off every pokemon type combination (Fighting)

2024.05.16 07:38 Mountain_Counter929 Making Aliens based off every pokemon type combination (Fighting)

Fighting/Normal: OHKO (One Punch Man but instead of one effortless punch it’s a touch of death combo he has to )
Species: Mugen
Planet: Sonof
Appearance
Powers and Abilities
Weaknesses/Drawback
Species/Planet Fact: The Mugen started as semi-organic creations by a long dead civilization who sought to try experiments designing different types of warriors. Eventually the planet will be inhabited by foreign researchers. These researchers have been working on enhancing them with various effects to increase their capabilities, and give them more movement and combat options. But during testing it was discovered that watching the Mugen fight with or without enhancements is incredibly entertaining resulting and a strong source of combat study. This discovery redirected their experiments being used for sports instead of warfare even preventing what would’ve been an interplanetary war by turning it into a competitive sport, exploding the planet in popularity. During this explosion there was the discovery of a single fight between two Mugen that have went on for centuries before the first immigration and has been fiercely protected from interruptions since its discovery.
Fighting/Grass: Doungwun Nemetrix predator of the Chunwin (See Kung book in Grass Types)
Appearance
Hunting Method
Planet/Species Fact: Despite the Doungwun seemingly biologically engineered to beat Cunwin on one to one combat, countering their various techniques. They rather take less ‘honorable’ tactics whenever possible. In populated areas they’d quickly overwhelm their prey with high numbers and quickly attack before the Chunwin gets a chance to swing. If there are aren’t any others nearby it’ll try to ambush its prey from hard to reach angles in the air. Only when it’s alone and has caught the attention of its prey, will it attach itself and engage its prey in close range combat. Most Chunwin societies simply use traps, or other tools to protect themselves from these predators. But a predator that chooses to engage in a one on one duel is more respected and results in a more respected death (for either one). So some Chunwin warriors leave themselves open to solo Doungwun attacks as some form of test.
Fighting/Fire: Racaln the Nemetrix predator of the Clabestro (See Firing Squad in Fire types)
Appearance
Hunting Method
Planet/Species Fact: Racaln only prey on the Clabestro when they’re split up and small. They don’t do any harm when they’re merged on one bigger body. But since most Clabestro combat (which happens very often) has them in their small split up forms. This makes it common for Racalns to be collected from the wild or bred in captivity to be utilized as excellent traps, and denying area. This practice would also be used as a mark to safeguard places from violence, to prevent Clabestro from splitting to engage in combat. This practice has spread to official gatherings like courts and diplomatic meetings.
Fighting/Water: Ultimate Slush (See Original in Water Types)
Appearance
Powers/Ability
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:
Fighting/Elctric: Ultimate Fightning Rod (See Web Work in Electric Types)
Appearance
Powers/Ability
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:
Fighting/Flying: Ultimate Fight and Flight (See original in Flying Types)
Appearance
Powers/Ability
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:
Fighting/Ice: Giengar Nemetrix predator of the Ashe (See Burrzerker in Ice Types)
Appearance
Hunting Method
Planet/Species Fact: Giengar are omnivores. In cold seasons they eat large predators with their primarily skill of inducing hallucinations that tire out its target before having its body frozen over for it to consume with its teeth designed to crush frozen objects. They gain this power by consuming mushrooms from warmer, jungle biomes that contain spores which has a similar effect to targets that breathe them in (though less concentrated and ends with less fatalities). Giengars are immune to these spores so during the warmer seasons they migrate to the jungle to consume high amounts of these mushrooms to expel their spores in large concentrations during hunting season. Normal Ashe that occupy these jungles stay away from the dangerous arctic biomes the Giengars hunt in, so to them the Giengar are seen as harmless. Since even if the Giengars try to use the spores against them, the conditions aren’t lethal and the lack of the Ashe’s adrenaline won’t inhibit their ability to recognize their condition and react accordingly instead of wasting their energy fighting.
Fighting/Ground: Ultimate Mudripper (See Original in Ground Types)
Appearance
Powers/Ability
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:
Fighting/Rock: Ovivine Nemetrix predator of the Sabter (See Mountain Goat in Fighting Types)
Appearance
Hunting Method
Planet/Species Fact: While Ovivine can talk and mimic sentient emotions its only purpose is to gain the trust of prey as a mere predatory mechanism, their brains aren’t capable of deeper introspective thought or sentience when alone. Sabter are worn of the Ovivine though largely they are seen as myth with how very few sightings they are and how little the Ovivine are actually active due to their slow metabolism. Ovivines cover their prey on the floor and slowly consume it whilst morphing its body to appear as a mere lump of ground covered in grass, which is another factor into how little they’re seen. Occasionally they encounter some Sabter who are very much aware of them, and their tricks so in those cases they simply push them off the cliff side. Though this method relies on the element of surprise since their physical strength is much weaker than the average Sayter.
Fighting/Bug: Ultimate Float Stinger (See Original in Bug Types)
Appearance
Powers/Ability
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:
Fighting/Psychic: Muscle Memory (Alien Taskmaster)
Species: Reffox
Planet: Arbeitar
Appearance
Powers and Abilities
Weaknesses
Planet/Species Fact: Due to the fact that all Reffox are all physically the same and that any unique skill that are developed is quickly assimilated by one another. Reffox populations share a yearning for a sense of identity. So many Reffox head off to other cultures/planets to use their learned skills to be able to make an identity of themselves, whether it be an athlete a performer, a warrior, a hero, or in some cases a criminal or ruler. This feeling is felt through all Reffox and when two of them meet, they silently agree to not show their skills to each other to keep their identity. Though if they do want to share they return to Arbeitar to tell their stories or inspire new skills for the next generation who would tell their story.
Fighting/Poison: Biolence (Fist of the North Star Powered by drugs, and can weaponize their own explosions )
Species: Gomane Planet: Omawoshindyu
Appearance
Powers and Abilities
Weaknesses
Planet/Species Fact: Eons ago a large vapor of toxic alien pollutants was mysterious dropped on Omawoshindyu mutating all inhabitants and killing off massive amounts of life, however life stiff have adapted and eventually evolved resulting in the modern Gomanes. By the time their own society has formed, the pollutants have been absorbed into the earth or dissipated from the atmosphere allowing fertile greener life to grow. Ironically most of Gomane society promotes healthy activity like proper diet in exercise, for it allows them to control their cyst development more effectively even when there sped up, which they use in hunting and combat sports. However crime activity is still noticeable involving addiction, violence, and gang activity. Mostly originating in highly polluted/deserted wastelands. As various poisons are being produced and mines
Fighting/Ghost: Body-structor (Havik from MK1 with hints of Water Law from One Piece)
Species: Rankensain
Planet: Taxodoom
Appearance
Powers and Abilities
Weaknesses:
Planet/Species Fact: Body parts are the Rankensains main currency. While most body parts are gathered from hunted animals on their world. Rankenstains have developed interplanetary transportation to gather valuable alien body parts. Often by nefarious methods like warfare, grave robbing, or even homicide, making them a disdained and feared species across multiple planets. There are labs made to create clones of existing limbs to replace active hunting to remove the need for travel, but with how often exploration is used and how slow the cloning process is, Rankensains still commonly hunt aliens for their limbs as part of a darker slightly underground culture. To get around their negative reputation, Rankensains would remove their own brains and implant them into other bodies to disguise themselves.
Fighting/Dragon: Medisnake (Combat Snake with Street Fighter Chi abilities)
Species: Ansatryu
Planet: Chakrenin
Appearance:
Powers/Abilities:
Weaknesses
Planet/Species Fact: Initially Ansartyu were seen as pets of another more human-like species called the Shotogun and as intelligent as their owners. However, eventually the Shotogun would discover their ability to tap into their own personal well of the same chi-like energy and start practicing it for various means. However back then only a handful of masters would be able use it, and only at a very basic level. Until one Shotogun prince discovered that his treasured Ansatryu was able to tap into and unlock further levels of mastery. With this knowledge the prince learned from his Ansatryu and developed a closer bond with it, even teaching his pet higher levels of intelligence as he was taught further mastery of chi. Later he would teach others how to learn from their Ansatryu and his own Ansatryu will give intelligence to others of his species, leading to the point where Ansatryu are now partners living in the same world as the Shotogun in relative harmony.
Fighting/Steel: Weapon Blaster (Tank Knight with hand guns that shoots bladed weapons) Species: Arthmo
Planet: Palawar
Appearance
Powers and Abilities
Weaknesse
Species/Planet Fact: Arthmo is an artificial species created from a combination of alchemy and engineering by a master at both, commissioned by a great king. They were meant to be used as weapons of warfare and even companions. However an enemy army raided the kingdom, and killed both the lord and creator after the first Arthmo woke up. So the lab was well hidden so the Arthmo followed the instructions of its creator and created more of it, and slaying the enemy army. Now they defend the remaining members of their kingdom to allow it to rebuild. However, rumor has it that a surviving enemy found the original Arthmo lab.
Fighting/Dark: Spotshot
Species: Dalmate
Planet: Cerberence
Appearance
Powers/Abilities:
Weaknesses/Drawbacks
Species/Planet Fact: The spotted biological materials that generate the Dalmate’s projectile “spots”, is a shared trait amongst a handful of different Cereberence animal species and even some plant life. Those species has a spot of a different color that was meant harm all other species/subspecie for predation or predator avoidance. Other species that don’t have this projectile ability do have spotted patterns on them to warn predators, or even create similar marks on objects to protect territory by intimidation. To weaponize their own “spots” Dalmate tribes would farm different animals and use them in different methods that changes their spot markings to battle other tribes with their own spot slinging skills to prevent it from being simply absorbed into its targets body.
Fighting/Fairy: Best-O Change-O (Magical Girl/Boy Recruiting Bunny)
Species: Usegin
Planet: Lunakessho
Appearance
Powers/Abilities
Weaknesses
Planet/Species Fact: Lunakessho is a magical planet where all the inhabitants would practice magic, protected by an order of Usegin knights. However dark forces used by villains and monsters would arise practicing this dark magic and almost threatened to corrupt the universe. The Usegin order managed to fight them off but with a threat on that kind of scale and some remaining presence of their enemies they decided to seal of the planet into another realm. However, now there is an occult group mages summoned the order on various points of different moons using a ritual that was meant to be used in case they’re needed. While the Usegin heroes did manage to get involved in their traditional hero work. They’ve learned too late that this ritual will eventually corrupt them once all the full rituals is complete, and they’re powerless to stop them. So they now go to various planets and recruit and train other magical warriors to stop them when the time comes.

Although we have different names for varieties which have certain color and pattern combinations, it doesn't seem like those patterns and colours are fixed to each other. It seems like you can combine different varieties to get cross varieties, like eye colour works in humans. I tried to look at scientific sources to investigate this but I haven't found anything really useful or up to date. I'd like to know which traits are heritable and which are dominant or reccessive, like shell color and pattern. Anyone know anything?

2024.03.06 07:54 dnash55 Spots

I recently saw a baby that had just a couple spots on it but no other pattern. All info I’ve found says it’s only a Dalmatian if it has more than 25 spots. It was a TINY TINY baby but if it keeps just the couple spots what morph would this be considered? I saw something about it being called a spotting dalmation but I can’t really find much on that either.

2023.12.26 17:41 apart-from-a-part [TOMT] [ANIMATED MOVIE] [BEFORE 2010s] Animated movie about farm animals, living on abandoned farm, working together to find their kidnapped children

I’m looking for an animated movie that I watched in the mid 2000s but I don’t know when it was made. My memory of the movie is foggy so some details may be wrong.
The animation was 2d and probably not that good. The movie was about talking animals living in an abandoned farm or abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. To clarify the animals still moved and acted like animals but talked.
I’m unsure about the story. The movie took place during winter so there was a lot of snow. I remember that there were little to no humans, but I think there was a human villain who wanted the land(unsure about this). There were a variety of farm animals living on the farm together peacefully. The villain kidnaps the child animals. The puppy protagonist as well as some other characters have to find the villain’s hideout, where the animal children were taken to, and save them. There was a scene where the animals find a dilapidated house with a hole in the window or door and look inside to find that it is the villains hideout with the animal children. In the end, the animal children are saved and everyone celebrates on the farm. I’m not sure how the villain was defeated.
The puppy protagonist kinda had the fur color pattern of a Saint Bernard but it was just a generic dog. I don’t know what gender the dog was but it was voiced by a woman and was a young puppy. The voice acting was also not that great. I distinctly remember not liking the puppy’s personality. I don’t know how prominent the puppy protagonist was in the story but it did focus on them a lot.
The story reminds me of 101 dalmations but it definitely wasn’t that movie.

2023.06.13 05:14 iamstarstuff73 Molly fish breeding (sort of)

Heyyyy, molly question here! I am new to the aquarium hobby and only have one planted tank (37 gal). I’ve been through all the ups and downs of cycling and things have been amazingly stable for the last couple months. I now have 2 dalmations, 2 black mollies, and 3 gold pandas that are living happily and healthily. I have a few zebra danios and a cory, too, but they all seem to coexist peacefully. Originally I had 2 male mollies and 5 females, but I watched the very odd gender transition of a very-obviously-pregnant female to no-longer-pregnant male. His entire body shape changed, he’s a sleek slender male now. No idea where the babies went lol. Anyway, the only ones that I ever see mating are the two dalmations. The male seems completely uninterested in any of the other females—he only socializes with his Dalmatian partner. They mate a lot, but she has shown no signs of pregnancy over the last 3-4 months. Two of my pandas were the same way, like only interested in each other and not the rest of the group. But then the female turned into a male, and they still try to mate with each other lol but don’t acknowledge the other girls in the tank.
I guess my main question is do they usually only stick to one partner? That’s not what all my google-researching led me to believe. I didn’t think they’d discriminate based on their color patterns or anything but it almost seems that way. They all get along well, to the best of my knowledge, and swim together like a collective group of mollies. Is this a sign that they’re not as happy as I think?
Not that I need baby mollies…I was just excited to experience that aspect of owning livebearers I suppose. I’d like to start another tank, or two, to fill with my healthily growing plants and more mollies—if I ever end up with more mollies! 😬

2023.05.31 08:17 A_Massive_Frog Betta fish I had when I was a kid

I don't have photos of this betta I was just a little kid when I got it in the early 2000s. (Maybe around 2005) But I remember what it looked like because I've never seen one like it since. I'm hoping by my description someone can help. I think I won it at a fair...cuz fairs usually had abused fish back in the day.
It was a peach kind of pale color with red spots, Kind of like polka-dots on the tail and a few red markings on the body but mostly just in the tail. Reminded me a cheetah or dalmation spots. It was not sick or diseased as it lived many years and the polka dots never changed or spread. The fish just had spots.
I've never seen another betta ever again with spots (mostly on the tail). I've seen lots of koi betta fish colors and patterns, but it was nothing like that at all. I had that one for a few years in its own tank because my family kept fish, mostly angel fish, so we had extra tanks around.

How To Improve Clarity In Writing And Get Your Point Across
Making your content easy to understand is a sign of clarity. Isn't it true your content is meaningless if people aren't trying what you have to say?
On the other hand, it is much easier for people to recognize its value if you can provide clear, precise, and easy-to-understand information. They will want to read more.
Split Up Long Sentences
Sentences that go on for too long are known as run-on sentences. Usually, they can be divided into two or more sentences.
You might say, for example, "Dalmatians are the best dogs because they are loyal, smiley, and have a distinctive spotting pattern. That's why I love them so much.
Instead, you could add, "Dalmations are the finest dogs because they are extremely faithful, grin, and have distinctive spotting patterns. That's the reason I adore them a lot?"
Focus On Your Message
The explanation involves more than minor modifications. It's a different way of thinking. Additionally, it forces you to stop and think about your writing before you start putting words to paper.
Before writing, you should be aware of the following:
Your topic
This blog entry, for example, is clearly about writing.
Your argument
The purpose of this article is to explain how to write clearly.
Your Outline
The basic structure of the essay is its outline. Nine points make up my outline.
Know The Person You Are Speaking
You need to use more complex language and concepts when teaching advanced subjects. As a result, you should speak about topics your audience is familiar with essay topics.
When you start writing, it's better to ask yourself, "What's the best way to convey your point clearly to an audience?"
The shortlist above offers a few simple strategies to make your information understandable to every user. They are interested in your message because they want to understand your point of view. Therefore, it's easier for them if you're more specific.
Introduce New Words
Defining your terms is an easy way to make your work more understandable. But, of course, you know the definition of clarity at the beginning of this post.
If you are going to create an essay that focuses on a particular topic or idea, make sure you define it. This way, the reader knows what you are talking about in your article topic.
Make a Sentence Outline
The structure of an essay is described using whole sentences in a sentence outline. Your outline is not clear or helpful if it contains only one word or sentence.
No doubt, writing entire sentences challenges you to think about what you're saying. Additionally, using whole sentences helps the user understand each argument.
Shorten Your Sentences
There are short sentences that are easy to understand. However, clarity is lost when you try to cram too many words into one statement.
What terms often find their way into sentences?
AdVerbs: now, actually, truly, and literally
Adjectives: Extremely, honestly, and simply
Additional filler sentences include: possibly, well, in order, now, that, simply, and maybe.
These terms clutter your creative writing. In this way, your writing becomes vague and less coherent.
Belief In Your Readers
People often overexplain things to their readers when they put too much pressure on themselves to make their arguments. It causes repetition throughout the text.
Mark a sentence in your essay that effectively conveys what you are reading. Would your case still stand if you removed these sentences? In such a case, skip a single sentence.
Want to use these techniques? Apply these to sample articles in our database and note any areas where you could improve clarity.
Avoid Using Wordy Sentences
We often use a lot of words to express short ideas. Eliminating filler will simplify your sentences and make your remarks much more precise. It would be best if you write as you normally would and then delete any extra words (also known as weasel words).
We know phrases like "help" and "like" are weasel words. Most writers overuse terms that do not add to the phrase's meaning. You'll use your weasel words less frequently once you've identified them. You won't have to change much to avoid them for long.
Conclusion
In most cases, clear writing involves getting the message across as quickly as possible. Before you start writing, you should clearly understand what you want to communicate. It includes using straightforward language and short sentences to help readers understand your ideas.
Keep these tips in mind before your next writing endeavour. These tips and activities should help you write more clearly, convey your ideas more effectively, and keep readers interested and wanting more.

2023.01.01 21:25 WrinklyWriter Different types of mollies?

I have a planted 20g with a sponge filter on a 60-100 Tetra Whisper air pump. I recently rescued 8 corys (6 albino/2 gold laser) and a gold doubloon lyretail molly (98% sure it's a female). I'd like to get more mollies, but I can't seem to find if mollies will shoal with other mollies that aren't the same colopattern. So if I got 3 or 4 dalmation mollies, will my current molly shoal with them? Or should I try to find more gold doubloons? (All female, obviously).

2022.09.16 16:47 newfriend999 the Dementor metaphor

Shorn of world-building 'Prisoner of Azkaban' is the story of one boy's struggle with depression, as Harry Potter comes to terms with the murder of his parents. Harry's depression is manifested in the terrifying form of the Dementors of Azkaban, which threaten to consume his soul. Depression is the adversary he must overcome to survive his third year at Hogwarts.
MY DAD DIDN'T STRUT
The first Dementor, from a psychological point of view, is Aunt Marge. Vernon's sister is pure antagonist. She needles Harry for days before hitting his thermal exhaust port with a couple of photon torpedoes: Harry's weak spot is his parents and malicious Marge maligns James Potter as a drunken layabout. Harry blows up. Then so does Auntie.
Until this confrontation, Harry is unaware of the uncontrollable rage monster that lurks beneath. Marge's vile slander unlocks Harry depression, which can be defined as anger turned inwards. Marge's insults are cruel and so on, yet she pinpoints a terrible truth. Harry does not really know anything about his dead parents. That is his wound. He has only the faintest sense of James and Lily Potter; as benevolent spectres in the Mirror of Erised, and from the warm words and happy snapshots supplied by Hagrid.
In 'Prisoner of Azkaban', Harry yearns to grieve. He craves knowledge about his parents. But there exists an obstacle of his own creation: the idealized image of the Potters that lives in his imagination. Harry is hot to defend this fantasy family. He auto-denies any contradiction: “My father didn’t strut.” Well, yeah, he kinda did. To truly know his parents Harry must let go of the picture-perfect ideal. He must demolish his own fantasy. This is going to hurt.
UNFOGGING THE FUTURE
Remus Lupin slumps dormant in an otherwise empty carriage on the Hogwarts Express. He has the knowledge of James and Lily that Harry needs. Dammit, the information comes wrapped in trauma. Remus Lupin is the second Dementor, awakened on the train. The baggage he brings is unavoidable, the pain he causes is unintentional. But Lupin is also able to revive Harry with kindness, returning the kindness that Harry’s mother showed him years before.
Harry faints. Yet the dive into depression unexpectedly brings him closer to his parents; he recalls his mother's voice. This is the process, a painful advance, baby steps. Harry is right to be wary of Lupin, who will coax Harry into feeling the full weight of his parents' deaths. No wonder the poor boy passes out. Childhood is no longer a refuge.
And Quidditch is no longer an escape. Sirius Black, the foreboding black dog, squats in the stands to watch Harry play. Sirius, too, carries knowledge about James and Lily Potter. But he is demented by anger, revenge and murder. Sirius Black is what Harry will become if his rage is not addressed. Sirius is the third Dementor. His presence triggers the sudden depression that causes Harry to fall from his broom. The Nimbus 2000, once a symbol of unbridled joy, is smashed to bits by a ferocious tree. Harry cannot fly away from this problem! Depression, he realizes, can strike any place, any time. Heroically, Harry Potter commits to change.
THAT'S THE SPIRIT, DEAR
The cure for depression is a many-layered thing. In the magical version, Harry goes to Remus Lupin and learns the Patronus Charm. In the psychological version – glimpsed between the lines – Harry undergoes therapy. The troubled 13-year-old replays his mother's murder over and over again until he can control his emotions. This, in essence, is the cognitive-behavioural approach to post-traumatic stress disorder. By facing the horrific events in his past, Harry stops the negative thoughts from catching him off guard. Once he comes to terms with his trauma, Harry connects with the true happiness needed to drive away depression.
Yay! Harry the sorcerer blows away one hundred and one Dalmations, sorry, Dementors with his Expecto Patronum.
Except he does not. Not the first time. Lupin gives him the tools, and Harry experiences some levity, but there is more work to do. The foundational memory that Harry uses to conjure the Patronus charm is the fantasy of his family, born of his heart’s desire; “complicated”; dishonest. The happy memory fails when the Dementors initially descend. And Sirius makes it worse by feeding Harry another fantasy. The world’s most famous boy wizard can live with a convict! Wow, the idea catches fire in Harry's mind. He can remain a boy! A boy whose father saves him when darkness falls.
SEVEN POTTERS
Harry Potter’s uncertain identity is established in the early pages. He goes to school at, er, St Brutus’s, where he is regularly beaten. His name is, ah, Neville Longbottom. He lives at, uh, the Leaky Cauldron. His best friend is, um, the ice cream man. His surroundings broadcast his inner turmoil: sudden darkness, the lurches and bangs of the Knight Bus, a Quidditch match that dissolves into an electrical storm, the furious disorder of the Shrieking Shack. ‘Prisoner of Azkaban’ journeys deep into Harry’s psyche. It’s happening inside his head.
The Shrieking Shack is a metaphor for Harry’s subconscious. Four of the book’s 22 pages are devoted to the chaotic group-therapy session therein as seven distinct identities, in essence divided, battle for the soul of Harry Potter.
For much of the book, Harry’s conscious self – his Ego – is conflicted. So naturally his Id and Superego, aka Ron and Hermione, go to war. Sirius Black is the Harry that is hellbent on revenge. Wormtail is the Harry that would rather be back in his cupboard, which for Scabbers takes the form of Ron Weasley's pocket. Remus Lupin rationalizes the unforgivable crime of murder. And at the point of understanding, Severus Snape crashes the party, a portrait of pure mania. Seven Potters. The cat is just a cat.
Ego, Id and Superego then reconcile in spectacular fashion: Harry, Ron and Hermione blast Snape/madness off his feet. Harry tames Sirius/vengeance, and chooses now and forever not to tarnish his soul with murder. Peter Pettigrew again goes into hiding. Which the Lupin persona takes badly. Professor Lupin’s rationality is a front. He, too, has been sitting on an uncontrollable rage monster and the inevitable eruption is epic. Because anger imprisoned has dangerous consequences. Anger itself is not the enemy. But anger turned inwards becomes Dementors. Restrained for too long anger transforms into a mindless werewolf.
Harry’s problems are not resolved until the final book, but the work in the Shrieking Shack makes him stronger. Everything comes together in one decisive moment on the Time Turner'd rerun. With his past, present and future in jeopardy at the Lake, Harry alone blows Dementors/depression clear out of Hogwarts.
AN UNUSUAL BOY IN MANY WAYS
I am fascinated by the behaviour of the characters in the Shrieking Shack. They act in ways that are unique to this book. Severus Snape never again blows a fuse. Nor does he need an Invisibility Cloak. Sirius Black is not stirred by revenge. Hermione Granger does not feud with a teacher or slap a fellow student. Peter Pettigrew gives up the rat act. Remus Lupin's wolf trick is strictly one night only. And then there is Cornelius Fudge who, this one time, treats Harry with kid gloves and bonhomie, as if the boy were mad or dangerous. On Diagon Alley, Harry is pacified with ice cream until help arrives.
What is going on? How? Where?
Harry, in all probability, populates his subconscious with familiar faces. He is sedated. A fat chunk of year three passes in the dank fug of the Divination classroom, where the atmosphere is as thick and cloudy as dreams. His brain struggles to make connections, is unable to discern simple shapes and patterns. His conscience resists the pharmaceuticals, weakly at first: Hermione the Superego rails against the tedium. In the Hospital Wing: nothing anyone said or did could make Harry feel any better. Finally Dumbledore, the head of the facility, intervenes. He prevents Madam Pomfrey from administering treatment, a tactic he repeats in 'Goblet of Fire'. Harry must feel his pain before he is permitted the sleep of the Poppy.
Crookshanks the emotional support animal calms the flailing anger of the Whomping Willow, which protects the entrance to Harry's mental sanctum. Danger. Do not enter. Unsafe. The cat brings peace to the furious Sirius persona too, curled up and purring on his lap. So Harry goes to work... on himself. He accepts the terrible and beautiful truth about his parents. Ultimately, he sees them clearly, and loves them, and his honest memory of them (the source of happiness for the Patronus defence) becomes truly powerful. Self-reliant Harry chooses the sort of adult he will be: the Protector. The child is father of the man.
In ‘Goblet of Fire’, the Dementor is a joke, a Boggart in a maze. Depression returns only after fresh trauma: the death of Cedric Diggory. Harry retains the skills, even in Little Whinging, to dismiss the soul-sucking fiends. But there are worse monsters. In 'Order of the Phoenix', Voldemort is in his head.

2022.09.15 16:57 newfriend999 the Dementor metaphor

This is his wound.
Harry is right to be wary of Lupin, who will ultimately coax Harry into feeling the full weight of his parents' murders.
2022.04.20 19:39 ProperMastodon Trying to work through my past. Where is my original trauma from?

Trigger warning: there is brief mention of suicidal ideation and sexual abuse/assault/harassment, childhood sexuality, my faith, and lots of text in general.
This is a very roughly organized process. I just want to know why things are so bad for me, why I have CPTSD. I don't know how to tell what things are normal parts of the human experience, and what is a small-t trauma that built up over time and contributed to the hole I've been in for the last 3 years.
Today, I am slowly working out of a depression and back into the level of 'adulting' I accomplished back in 2015 before I met, married, and divorced an extremely abusive woman (mostly emotional abuse, but with drops of reactionary physical abuse here and there - why do I feel the need to minimize how she treated me? Yes, she only left bloody fingernail marks in my hand on around 3 different occasions when I was trying to comfort her, but I did have to call the police because she was physically blocking my car inside our garage). I know I was in a bad place by the time I met her at age 26 because I came into that relationship feeling like I deserved being punished.
I had one earlier dating relationship in my freshman year of college which lasted a little over a year, but I already believed that I had no right to have boundaries by the time I met her. So here's what I can think of to say about my past as I try to think through things and organize my mind so I can figure out what's important to bring up to my new therapist as she's assessing how best to move forward in my treatment.
My parents are loving, nurturing, and safe now, although I'm feeling that they understand me less and less as I'm trying to work through my history of pain. They fought when I was young (all verbal, nothing physical or abusive), but eventually worked through that in couple's counseling. My dad was busy with work a lot, and traveled for weeks at a time. My mom worked as well (though not the 10 hour days my dad seemed fond of), so we had babysitters (I can only remember the one we had after 3rd grade, and have exactly 1 memory of one of the babysitters from before then). My mom also suffered with depression / thyroid problems after my sister was born (3 years after me), but eventually got the right medications for that. When I was an infant, a nursery worker called CPS on my parents because I had too many bruises (I have a bleeding disorder so they last longer, and I'm told I was a very active baby who fell off of lots of things). There wasn't any disciplinary action against my parents, but that's when we found out about the bleeding disorder. When my mom saw that I was upset, she would ask me if I was "mad, sad, glad, or afraid" (always the same order), and at some point in late elementary school I felt shame or fear when she'd ask me that (feeling like I "should" have known by then, I think). She also treated my siblings the same way.
My brother (3 years older than me) supposedly had rage / seizure episodes that I mostly can't remember. They were apparently so bad that my dad had to pin him to the ground (in what my mom calls a "fireman's hold" - not sure what she meant by that) while telling my brother that he loved him. My brother said that he blacked out during these episodes. The only episode I remember (although I might just be remembering people talking about it, rather than the event itself, despite my whole family being in the car) is when my brother was around 15, and he started kicking my mom's seat in the car, so my dad pulled over to try to handle it - but my brother ran into the woods before my dad could do anything. What I can remember is that he would mock my hobbies (choice in books, gaming in general) and frequently got mad at me at the dinner table for things like "looking at him too much" while he was talking. My mom has said that it was hard for my parents to respond well in the moment, because they had to balance not setting my brother off on one of his rage / seizure episodes, but also wanted to teach him that it was wrong to treat me that way. When I left for college, he changed and started trying to "help" me be "better", which felt very smothering. I remember long episodes of being harassed and cajoled by him to (for instance) change my entire wardrobe to what he suggested, while I basically sat still and took it (all the while feeling this immense pressure that something was wrong, but not being able to do anything about it) until finally I'd do something (but I can't for the life of me remember what. My parents said I'd just say "no" and it miraculously stopped, but that doesn't sound right). My parents see this as a sign of having strong boundaries and being able to uphold them, I see it as freezing until finally the pain got to be too unbearable, or a way out appeared, or something.
My sister would frequently invade my room (our bathroom connected our bedrooms together, and she overcame the flimsy privacy locks that we had on our interior doors), sometimes when I was using the bathroom (once, I accidentally zipped some of my scrotum with my pants' zipper when she surprised me like that). Never while I was in the shower, though, so I don't think she was intentionally trying to see me in the bathroom. She had symptoms of ADHD from elementary school or so, but wasn't diagnosed until high school - instead, she got punished a lot (mostly by getting grounded). One time I answered the phone and "Dr. Anderson" asked to speak with my sister, so I gave her the phone. Turns out he was a creep and sexually harassed (not sure if the right term should be harassed, assaulted, abused, etc.) her over the phone. When I found out later that day, I blamed myself. I remember my parents trying to comfort me even while trying to focus most of their attention on my sister. One time, after discovering porn, I tried to grope her 'breasts' (she was pre-puberty) while tickling her. She told my parents, but they never did anything about it - and don't even remember her saying anything. I think she had forgotten about this incident as well, until I confessed and tried to make amends to her a few years ago.
My brother and sister would frequently gang up on me for teasing / bullying, and I don't remember my parents ever doing anything to help me. One time, they pushed me past a certain point and I exploded with anger and threatened them with a thumbtack, but they only started laughing at me (I do see this as a funny story now, especially since I had to go past the literal swords I had hanging up on the wall to get to the thumbtack). I remember one instance of going to my mom for help while I was being bullied, while she was watching tv, and she said something to the effect of "If the two of you don't work it out between yourselves, I'll step in and you'll both be punished". Another time while at a hotel pool (probably pre or early puberty for me), my sister and a random other girl were bullying me in the pool and I was afraid I was going to drown. Again, no one stepped in to help me.
At family gatherings, I felt out of place, like an outsider, and would spend most of my time wrapped up in a book. I couldn't remember most people's names (I knew my immediate family, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and my great aunt and uncle, but I'd get my two cousins confused for each other [since they basically looked like mountains to me], and I just wouldn't know who the other 10+ people were, or if they were even family or just close friends of family).
I thought that I didn't look like a "real person" throughout most of my life, up until college, or maybe later. I only recently realized that I hadn't had that thought in a long time.
In groups of friends / acquaintances, I am often afraid to step on what someone else is saying, and don't feel like my opinion really matters for anything, so I typically just go with the flow.
I had a computer in my bedroom, so I discovered porn by the age of 12 (don't remember how old I was). This finally gave an excuse to the deep-seated sense of shame I already had. Also, it amped up my already existing practice of nightly masturbation. One time my sister found porn on my computer, but I made it seem like an accident or something and she never talked about it to our parents. One day when I didn't have school (either a saturday or a holiday), I spent the whole morning masturbating, and found out later that day that a friend of the family died in a car accident that day. Somehow, I blamed myself immediately.
I typically had just one friend at school, and didn't have a friend at church until I was in highschool. I wasn't particularly focused on by any bullies, but when I did get some passing attention from one (he tore up some MtG cards of mine) the principles basically laughed it off when I told them that a kid had ripped up some of my stuff.
I don't have many memories from the church I grew up in. I feel like I learned to be ashamed of myself because of only learning half of what they were trying to teach me (I got the brokenness of sin, but not the reality of grace and God's love of me). At some point after I found porn, I remember a sermon that talked about porn where the pastor said something like "it's worse for a married man to use porn than a single guy". Still felt guilty and ashamed, even though I wasn't being categorized as the 'worst' person there. I also remember wanting to be a 'good' person who believed in God, but would beat myself up because I didn't think I believed in God enough. I remember at least one night where I was lying in bed awake, terrified at the thought of eternity, because I simply couldn't imagine how that could be good or joyful. I stopped going to church during my first semester of college, but came back to my faith at 26 after reading some books that showed me that God still loved me despite my porn addiction.
I spent most of my time in my room, playing single-player games, reading books, using porn, etc., and I'd even retreat during family movie nights and the like. My brother mocked me for my hobbies, my sister frequently bugged me to stop doing what I liked and pay attention to her, I felt that my dad was disappointed that I didn't enjoy more outside things.
By the time I was in highschool, I developed a fear of being found out as having messed up. For instance, if I realized I had forgotten to do a chore, I was afraid of the shame that would come from doing it late when other people would notice, and would instead put it off for another day. For chores like taking out the trash, ok, whatever. One of my chores was feeding the dogs. One of the days that I realized I had forgotten to feed them, my dalmation died. I blamed myself and tried to forget that pain for so long, while also dramatically over-remembering how often I forgot to feed them. I can rationally look back and see that neither of the dogs were losing weight, and that my dog was over 10 years old (which is old for a dalmation), so he probably died of natural causes rather than of hunger. This is the only piece of my trauma that comes up in my dreams, in the form of the deep shame (not a lot of fear, so I don't quite count it as a nightmare). The dream happens maybe once a year or so, so not very often.
I remember my mom taking me to the doctor because of bed-wetting when I was old enough to where I shouldn't have been doing that anymore. No one in my family remembers how old I was when this happened, or when the bed-wetting actually stopped.
I've tried to do some research on childhood sexual development to see if I was abnormal in my sexual growth, but there are too many "age appropriate" comments, and everything I see seems to come from the same original source material (i.e. there are only slight wording or formatting differences). I remember picking out a barbie doll at Disney World when I was 4-ish so that I could have a doll to take the clothes off of when I got home. I remember touching myself and humping the bed very regularly (possibly even nightly) before 3rd grade, and well before puberty. My first ejaculation was a complete surprise to me and filled me with shame, but didn't stop me from masturbating nightly. I don't remember any sexual contact with anyone else (other than when I talked about groping my sister above, and one time pre-3rd grade I showed a friend my naked doll). I remember being afraid of getting the next-door neighbor girl pregnant if our groins touched (even with clothes on) when I was in kindergarten and we were kissing. After discovering porn, I used it too much - to the point of developing painful friction sores. I don't remember having a specific talk with either of my parents about sex, but there was always some kind of background talk about sex and pregnancy while I was growing up since my mom was the administrator of a crisis pregnancy center.
My paternal grandfather died when I was in 5th grade (Parkinson's, I think), but I'd always felt that I wasn't good enough for him (we visited for about 3 weeks total a year). I also found myself emotionally distancing myself from him because I didn't know how to respond to his physical weakness / tremors due to his Parkinson's. While growing up, I felt similarly bad in my paternal grandmother's eyes sometimes, but other times I felt loved by her. Strangely, I didn't really start connecting with her personally until right before I met my abusive ex-wife.
I remember spending a lot of time with my maternal grandparents (they lived nearby, so we got dropped off for weekends to give my parents some alone time), but I didn't really emotionally connect with them as much as I now wish I had. I mostly spent the weekends with them playing video games.
When I was older (highschool and on) I remember feeling shame for not being closer to family, or to people in general. I still feel somewhat distant from even my closest guy friends (for instance, I've never had an argument or been hurt by them, which I think is supposed to be a normal thing that happens if you're close to someone for 5+ years).
There are some things I didn't learn this until post-college. While I was in junior high, my brother was suicidal (and that might be related to why he got suspended for a couple of weeks once). My great grandfather frequently sexually abused my maternal grandmother during her childhood, and sexually harassed/assaulted my mother twice (assaulted once as a kid, harassed while she was in college). Apparently, my maternal grandmother was somewhat emotionally abusive toward my grandfather, and would pick at his deepest shame, and gaslight him by telling him that things he said didn't actually happen.
At one point in my mid-20s, my brother's life imploded and he moved back in with my parents (from north Texas to Houston). A month or two after he moved into his own place, my sister's life imploded and she moved back in with my parents (from north Texas to Houston). She still lives with them, and is helping take car of my grandmother with dementia. One Christmas after my sister moved in with my parents, she claims that he propositioned her for sex (he says she misinterpreted a joke he made in response to her saying something he didn't quite catch that she had said). My parents and I found out years later when my dad read her diary after she left it out on a table (he says he thought it was something related to school). My siblings haven't spoken to each other since (but they both still talk to me). I'm not writing this because I think it related to my childhood trauma (the general shape was already in place well before this happened), but as an indication of what else is going on in my family.
In saying all this, I'm obviously focusing on the bad things in my life. There were good moments, too. There were a few nights where my dad and I would stay up talking about random science stuff I got excited about, or the few times I'd talk with my mom about stuff I was writing. Before 3rd grade, I'd spend time with the neighbors across the street (their whole family was friends with my whole family), or ride my bike to another friend's house (maybe a mile or two away - my mom got mad when she realized I was doing that without any supervision). In high school, I saw friends outside of school maybe 5 times. Never in Junior High. I had ok interactions with most of my classmates, never really hated school, very rarely got in trouble with my parents.

My parents are telling me that I just had a "sensitive temperament", so I was feeling traumatized by things that would have allowed other kids to grow up without trauma.
They also claim that I had a lot of perseverance growing up (for instance, quitting after 2 years of marching band rather than quitting partway through the first year), when I can't remember a time when I could really self-motivate myself to start and complete a project that I wanted (mostly to do with just giving up partway through trying to write a story), and I would assume that people around me wouldn't be able to complete their goals, either.
Supposedly, I was a really outgoing child, and would walk up to strangers with a huge grin, but by 3rd grade that had completely gone away (my parents think it happened in puberty).
I would rarely get angry as a kid, but when I did it was always a huge explosion. My parents see that as a cute character trait (such as the time I got really angry at going to see a fake and corny 'alien museum' in Roswell, NM - which is a funny, innocuous instance), but I see it as an example that I didn't feel allowed to get angry and would hold it in until the last straw that broke the camel's back. To this day, I feel like I'm not allowed to feel anger (but I'm working through that), and that anger necessarily comes with hurting someone. I can vaguely remember breaking down sobbing in anger because I didn't know what to do with it, and I can specifically recall one time that my siblings were bothering me and I didn't know how to protect myself or deal with it so I grabbed a thumbtack and threatened them with it (I specifically didn't grab any of the swords on my wall because I didn't want to actually hurt them). I think I'm getting better at handling anger appropriately, but throughout most of my life I would just freeze (including mentally) until things got too painful and I'd have to do something.

So, after writing this, I do feel that there was trauma. It wasn't massive parental neglect or abuse like Pete Walker's book seems to describe, but I felt that no one was going to protect me, and I never knew how to protect myself. I had traumatic experiences with my brother's rage episodes, and didn't have any personal space with my sister's invasion of my room. My parents saw the obvious issues my siblings had (rage/seizures or ADHD symptoms) but didn't see that I needed more support than they were giving me. They tried to teach us kids how to take care of ourselves, but that just further fed into my belief that I couldn't reach out for help. I also had mounds and mounds of shame because of my pornography use/addiction, particularly when coupled with my incomplete religious beliefs as a child. All of this set me up perfectly for a BPD abuser, who then deepened all of my existing wounds.
From what I've written (if you can even keep it all in your head :P), are there any patterns / concerns you see that I don't?

2022.04.13 20:20 justneedausernamepls What determines the style of vestments diocesan priests wear?

These two photos are from chrism Masses in my diocese and a neighboring archdiocese: https://imgur.com/a/2Jjrcyb. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what determines the style and color pattern of the uniform vestments that the priests are wearing. (Also, are these "dalmatics"?) I guess I'm surprised it's not a completely uniform style across the entire church. Is this at the bishop's discretion? If so, what guides their choices? Thanks!

2022.03.09 21:01 kaosdaklown Furry children

What can I say about peoples furry kids that hasn't already been said? They drive us crazy in ways we would have never imagined. They show us parts of ourselves that we didnt know existed, thought that part was dead, or most of all, show us what unconditional love is.
I've had rottweilers (Both German and American, I prefer American), heelers, mutts, and my favorite so far, pitbulls and pit crosses. I've had 5 pits or pit crosses, with 3 leaving me lost when they left my life. The first one, my dearest furry kid ever, is Shadow. He got hit by a car when he was just a few months old, just a glancing blow, but enough that it was a few weeks of laying in his bed to recover, and it stunted his growth. A rednose pitbull and Staffordshire terrier cross, he had the tuxedo pattern common with bluenose pits, the muscles of a dog twice his size and a head the size of a basketball, the perfect lap dog at just under 80lbs. He was my first service dog, and was a natural at it. He always seemed to know just when I was starting to lose my temper, an would force me to pay attention to him. his favorite way to play was getting thrown like a bowling ball. I'd grab him by the collar and his broomstick of a tail, and launch him rolling across the yard, laughing as he would be trying his hardest to get his feet under him and get back to me to do it all over again. We went everywhere together. Riing in my truck, he'd get up on the bench seat, or between the bucket seats and rest his head on my leg. On the rare occasion that he couldnt get to me in a vehicle, he'd get carsick and puke in the vehicle (did it to my wife a few times until she refused to let him ride anywhere with her). He was about the size of a french bulldog, but built like a brick shithouse. Not a mean bone in his body, he wouldnt even attack another dog attacking him. I used the word IS when I talk about him because I dont know what happened to him. I tied him out in the yard one morning to let him handle his business, and when I came out an hour later, he was gone, missing. To this day, I dont know where he went, whether he was stolen, got loose and ran away or what. I know that someday, I'll see him again, and I cry thinking about that day. Had Shadow almost 5 years and he was gone in an instant. I hope where ever he ended up made him happy.
The second pupper that made an impression was Dexter. Dexter was a bluenose and fence jumper cross and looked like someone took a dalmations skin and put it on a pit bull. Only dog I've ever seen that would take a punch from a full grown man, shake it off and come back for more. Sheriffs Department out here wanted to know how I trained him to do that. Truthfully, I didnt train him to do it, he just picked it up playing around with me. I had him trained as a guard/protection dog. He would be the calmest, nicest dog you ever saw...Until you put a pair of gloves on. Work, driving, medical gloves, it didn't matter. If you had gloves on and I gave the signal or I wasn't there, he treated you as a threat and wul attack with the fiercest dtermination I ever saw a dog have. No gloves, I had to give him the signal to attack or guard. He saved my wife from an attack in our yard, when a fake deliveryman pulled up and started loading up our lawn furniture. She went out the front door with Dexter, and as she was yelling at the guy, he went to punch her. That punch never connected, as Dexter had jumped up and locked on to the guys arm, ripping it to the bone. No charges on us, dude tried to sue, until his lawyer found out exactly what led up to his client being bitten. Dex would try to be a lap dog, but he couldnt lay on your lap, he had to get his paws on your shoulders and rest his head on your shoulders, like a hug. Dexter disappeared the same time as Shadow, and i like to think he went with Shadow to keep him safe. Man, I miss those two pups.
The next one that made an impression on me was Fred. Fred was a bluenose pitbull, with a brindle type pattern on his back and shoulders. I didnt get much time with him. He was a rescue, coming from a home where he was loved, but wasnt allowed (landlords here suck). He had an endless amount of energy, and could drag my fat ass around the yard like a horse pulling a cart. I had just started working with him, intending for him to be the family guard dog when we lost him. I put him out side in his run (couldn't tie him out because he would break the cables), and went to get his food. I came out with his food a few minutes later, fed him, fresshened up his water, and went back inside. Couple hours later, I came out to find him, head swollen and puffy, unmoving in his doghouse. Rattlesnake, or poisonous spider bite took him at just under a year old. I lost my emotions right then, dropping and wailing at the world and how cruel it was. I don't know why this of all things sticks in my head, but Fred was the first animal I built a coffin for. Damn thing was 4 foot long, 2 foot wide and took 4 of us to carry him in it to his final resting place, out along the front yard fence under the lilac bushes my wifes mother planted.
Now, I have Gibbs. Gibbs is a pit and Staffordshire cross, all muscly like Shadow was, and the same type coat as Dexter. Not a day goes by that Gibbs doesn't make me wonder if Shadow and Dexter found a way to come back to me, reincarnated as Gibbs. He rests his head on my leg sometimes when we go for a drive like Shadow did. He does the head on your shoulders like Dexter. He's also the lowest energy dog I've ever seen, since at 3 months or so he doesnt chew on anything, he doesnt jump around and run around the house. He's also the smartest dog I've ever had. Gibbs picked up house training in under a week, and on the rare occasion that he does have an accident, he prefers to go in my father in laws bathroom, right in front of the toilet. He sits when I get to a door, waiting for me to open it. He learned what his bed in my shop is on the first time being told what it was. Gibbs got his name from the TV show NCIS, because my oldest daughters have a dog named Abby. Gibbs and Abby get along great, and Abby will follow him around the yard, giving him kisses every chance she gets.
Losing the ones I mentioned left a big hole in my heart and I didnt want another dog until Gibbs came along. The day I got him, my friend called and asked me if I wanted a dog. I told him I wasnt really looking for one, but if he brought the dog by my shop, I'd take a look and ask around. He got to the shop and came in, and Gibbs ran up to me, sat down and looked up at me. At that moment, I knew he wasnt going anywhere. The things I saw in his eyes made me sure that Shadow and Dexter came back to me. I saw the love Shadow had for me, the playful energy that Dexter seemed to have a neverending supply of, and the way he looked clenched it. I dont know if I will ever get another dog after Gibbs. i know that if and when I lose him, for whatever reason our makers decide to take him, I'm gonna be lost.
Holy crap, this is way longer than I expected. Thanks for reading all this if you made it this far.

2022.02.28 07:59 LinkworldIntl1 Different Types of Sleeves for Covers

Fashion is an ever-changing world. For as important as it changes, trends and styles always come back again. The sleeves of a composition of apparel make an impact on the overall look. Check out all the different sleeve styles available and how they impact your outfit.
You might suppose there isn't anything important to know about a sleeve. It's a long, short, or in-between length on your arm. Some sleeves are way too tight, while others are a little loose. What difference is there to know?
There's a great deal more to know about sleeves than you could have imagined. The more you know about sleeves, the easier it may be for you to find a style that fits you stylishly. It’s time to open yourself up to a whole new world of sleeves.
Sleeve Orders
Sleeves have a practical purpose, which is to cover the arm and shoulder. Sleeves either cover these areas from the sun or keep them warm, depending on the rainfall. Sleeves are swish and give your top half a specific type of look. Sleeves have a big effect on style and give structure to any composition of apparel.
One Piece ( Attached) Sleeves
Attached sleeves, or one-piece sleeves, are part of the design and pattern of the composition of apparel. They're cut out from the fabric with the composition of apparel. They're formerly attached, so there's no need for shoulder seams. Batwing sleeves are a type of attached sleeves. ( Source SewGuide)
Set-In Sleeves
Set-in sleeves are cut independently and sutured to the piece of apparel. They're joined to the apparel at the seams and are matched to the armhole confluence to produce a comfortable fit. ( Source SewGuide)
Sleeve Lengths
Sleeves not only come in different styles but they’re also made in all different lengths. The two main orders of sleeve length are long and short. Still, sleeves can be any length from just on the shoulder to out past the wrists.
Long Sleeve
This is a general term that refers to an introductory sleeve that starts at the shoulder and goes all the way down to the wrist. Long sleeves are designed in a variety of fits and styles. Long sleeves are most frequently worn when the rainfall is colder.
Short Sleeve
This is a more general type that refers to any type of sleeve that doesn't go past the elbow. It can be any length, from slightly extended past the shoulder to elbow length. It can come in numerous variations, from plain to gathered to indirect.
Types of Sleeves
Some sleeves look much better on a specific type of apparel or a particular design. Some sleeves look more on some body types than others. You presumably noway imagined how numerous different types of sleeves there are
Angel Sleeve
These are a burned sleeve look and act the bodies of an angel. They're flowy, loose sleeves. This is a set-in sleeve style. The sleeve starts at the armhole and hangs approximately at the shoulder. It flows to the wrist in a wide asymmetrical shape.
Angel sleeves, also known as dalmation sleeves, are frequently lace or sheer and ideal for summer apparel. You'll see this style frequently on blankets and gowns. These sleeves give the outfit a touch of charm while remaining seductive. They can be on fancy evening wear or further casual diurnal wear.
Bag
Barrel sleeves, or bag sleeves, are full, substantial sleeve styles that are gathered at the wrist.
Balloon Sleeve.
This sleeve has a unique look. It's frequently padded and resembles a balloon. It's generally a long sleeve and it's full throughout the entire length. It's frequently gathered at the top and has a cuff at the bottom. This style adds a lot of volumes.
Batwing Sleeve
The batwing is a conventional style sleeve. It’s an attached sleeve that has come incredibly popular in the fashion world. This sleeve style looks like a batwing, hence the name. It generally has a wide armhole and a wide, substantial sleeve style. The wrist tends to be phased. These sleeves are attached, so there are no seams.
Bell Sleeve
There are two different styles of bell sleeves, including short and long styles.
Long Bell Sleeves
Long bell sleeves flare out to the wrist. They’re veritably wide and look veritably much like a bell, but they’re also called trumpet sleeves. These sleeves are set in and give your arms room to breathe. Their solidness makes them ideal for casual clothes. They're comfortable and affordable.
Short Bell Sleeves
You may see short bell sleeves more frequently on dresses. They don't have pleats or sheers and generally go to elbow-length. Indeed though these sleeves were popular in the Medieval periods, they're still trendy moments. A dress will bell sleeves can make your arms look slimmer and veritably seductive.
Bishop Sleeve
Bishop sleeves, also known as bishop’s sleeve, are fitted on the upper arm and veritably loose and burned on the lower arm, also gathered at the wrist. The bishop sleeve is a trendy and fashionable style. This is a long cuff sleeve style. It's a set-in sleeve that frequently has a tear, a cuff, or a button at the wrist.

Bracelet Sleeve
Also known as three-fourth sleeves, cuff sleeve styles end nearly between the elbow and the wrist. It always falls short of the wrists to allow your cuff to show. That’s why they’re called cuff sleeves.
Butterfly Sleeve
Butterfly sleeves are short, burned sleeve designs that are rigorously a style accentuation and not functional sleeves.
Cap Sleeve
Cap sleeves are a short-sleeve style. In fact, they're incredibly short. Cap sleeves cover your shoulder and are not important differently. It's like a fitted sleeve cap for your shoulder. This is a set-in-style sleeve. As the sleeve moves underneath your arm, it becomes more phased.
These are comfortable sleeves that work with casual or slightly fancier style clothes. This is a flattering sleeve. This is generally made as a separate piece of material that's added to the bodice.
Extended Cap Sleeve
This is exactly like a cap sleeve, but it has a slight extension at the end of the sleeve.
Cape Sleeve
Cape sleeves, or indirect sleeves, are a short sleeve style that resembles a bell sleeve. It doesn't go down to the elbow. It's occasionally called a shawl sleeve. The end of the sleeve is burned. When looking at this sleeve from the reverse, it looks like a cape but drapes more in the front. They're a set-in style that gives your arms plenitude of space to breathe.
This sleeve style is comfortable and swish. These sleeves are most frequently planted on jumpsuits, but you'll also see them on dresses and blouses.
Cuff
Cuff sleeves are made to look like rolled-up sleeves but they’re designed to be formerly cuffed up. Generally, the cuffed end of the sleeve is decorated or made in a different color against the rest of the shirt.
Dolman
Dolman sleeve styles, or Magyar sleeve styles, is an attached sleeve that has a flawless fit between the bodice pattern and the sleeve. Frequently, a gusset is added to the underpart of the sleeve to give the arm plenitude of room to move.
Draped
Draped sleeves are fuller at the top of the sleeve but the underpart of the sleeve remains fitted. This gives the sleeves a draping, full look.
Drawstring
Drawstring sleeves, or drawstring air sleeves, are fluffy sleeves that are gathered near the verge using a drawstring. The material that extends past this gathered section also creates a short frill or ruffle.
Elbow Renovated
Elbow patch sleeves or elbow renovated sleeves are sleeves that have a redundant patch of fabric on the elbow to help wear. Numerous styles of sleeves can be elbow patch sleeves.
Epaulet
Epaulet sleeves have nothing to do with any military rank. Rather, they’re called epaulet sleeves because of the small strips on the shoulders, which act epaulets. The strips make it easy to attach a cape to the shirt if asked. Epaulet sleeves are also called defile sleeves.

2022.01.01 15:16 everyday_im_puzzling [Discussion] A Review of My Year in Puzzles: Stats, Highlights, Lowlights, and More!

[Discussion] A Review of My Year in Puzzles: Stats, Highlights, Lowlights, and More!
(Disclaimer - this is actually going to cover 12/25/20 to 12/31/21, except for the heat map which is 2021.)

Stats - Let’s just jump right into it with some numbers!

Total time spent puzzling: 586 hr 40 min
Average daily time spent puzzling: 1 hr 35 min
Median time spent puzzling: 1 hr 15 min
Most time spent puzzling in a single day: 6 hr 10 min
I know some people think it’s crazy to track time while puzzling, but 1) I still work at a leisurely pace, and 2) it’s really insightful (but I’ll get to that later).
A heat map of how much I puzzled every day. I just googled an excel template and pasted my data into it, so it's not very polished.
Puzzles completed: 101
Total pieces: 74,982
By piece count:
3000 - 1
2000 - 1
1500 - 2
1000 - 40
750 - 4
500 - 42
300 - 9
182 - 1
100 - 1
Most time consuming puzzles:
  1. 90s Nickelodeon Cast of Characters by Aquarius - 3000 - 35 hr 20 min
  2. Disney Classics by Ceaco - 2000 - 19 hr 50 min
  3. Cherry Blossoms by Galison - 1000 - 17 hr 40 min
  4. Icing on the Cake by Springbok - 1000 - 16 hr 30 min
  5. Disney Villains by Ceaco - 1500 - 14 hr 5 min
  6. Geometric by Buffalo Games - 500 - 12 hr 50 min (I predicted this was going to be top 5 and at the time I hadn’t finished the 3000 piece puzzle so technically I was right)
Brand breakdown:
Galison/Mudpuppy - 31
eeBoo - 18
Buffalo Games - 13
Ceaco - 11
Cardinal - 4
Page Publications - 3
Ravensburger - 3
Springbok - 3
Other brands - 15
(Galison is definitely a favorite, although their number is heavily biased by my 12 puzzles of Christmas project which were all Galison.)

Highlights - It’s hard to decide on favorites, so instead I’m going to share some puzzles I did for special occasions and milestones.

20th puzzle - my first 1500 piece (It’s a Ruff Life by Buffalo Games)
My birthday - Icing on the Cake by Springbok
Pi day - Life is Sweet by Buffalo Games
Easter - Poppy Bunny by eeBoo
50th puzzle - State Flowers by Galison (confession - at the time I thought it was my 50th puzzle and upon a later recount I realized it was 49th!)
Halloween - Four Legged Costume Contest by Hallmark
Christmas - The 12 Puzzles of Christmas project
100th puzzle - my first 3000 piece (90s Nickelodeon Cast of Characters by Aquarius)
101st puzzle - 101 Dalmations by Cardinal

Lowlights - Not to be a downer, but here are some challenges I faced and brands I plan to avoid in the future.

There is one puzzle whose stats aren’t included here. It’s that 1000 piece colorful macaron puzzle by Cardinal. It was $5 from the Bullseye section of Target and it was terrible quality. I’m usually diligent about making sure I start with no connected pieces, but while I worked on this puzzle, I accepted it as a gift from the puzzle gods. I spent maybe 2 hrs on it and realized I was suffering (not to be dramatic or anything). I thought, why am I doing this? So I quit! Don’t continue to do things that no longer bring you joy just because you’ve already spent time doing them!
Among the most challenging puzzles I did complete were Cherry Blossoms and Geometric. You see that chunk in late April/early May where I wasn’t puzzling much? That was right after I finished working on Cherry Blossoms, which I previously described as [“if anything was going to break my streak it was that puzzle”]. My daily average fell to 32 minutes for a few weeks, and I’m pretty sure that’s when I implemented the official 30 minute minimum.
One brand I’ve sworn off of is Page Publications. I’ve only ever seen them at stores like TJ Maxx and Tuesday Morning. My second ever puzzle was actually a PP puzzle (Nuts about Donuts - 500), and I don’t remember it being terrible quality. Maybe it wasn’t or maybe I didn’t know better. A few months later I did Seaside Bistro (500) and it was awful. The pieces felt like they might crumble in my hand and it was false fits galore. I also did Springtime in Paris (1000) and while the individual pieces felt like good quality, they didn’t stay together well. I have one more 500 piece puzzle in my to do stack that I still plan to do, but no more after that.
Another brand I don’t plan to pursue anymore might be shocking because it’s a beloved brand around here, but it’s Springbok. I’m not opposed to random cut, but their piece cut is just too wacky for me. I hate having an idea of the piece that I’m looking for and then finding out it’s really two smaller pieces.

Missing Pieces and Life Lessons

The first time I completed a puzzle that was missing a piece I was particularly disappointed because it was one I wanted to display. And in general, the idea of not being sure whether I lost it or it was never in the box is stressful. Every time I saw someone post on here that they were missing a piece in a puzzle they had wanted to display, I started to embrace the concept of the missing piece more, in terms of the puzzle as artwork. Like, anyone could put together a given puzzle and display it as art, but you would (likely) be the only one who has that version of the puzzle with that particular missing piece.
I’ve had one puzzle with a duplicate piece. It’s from Life Before Social Media by Galison. It’s a piece from the section with the rainbow that says “More living in the moment”; specifically the piece that has “moment” written on it. There’s got to be a joke there for the person who got the puzzle with that piece missing. It’s such a particular piece to get a duplicate of, and it’s like my little good luck charm.

A few more things!

If there are any other stats you’re interested in, or stats on a particular puzzle, let me know! Or if you want to hear more about any of the puzzles I did in 2021, you can see what I worked on here. And an observation on one stat I don’t have to provide - cost - I’ve noticed there seems to be a pattern in terms of who has that number to provide. People who are interested in reselling know their number and people who want to keep their collection don’t. A related number I can tell you though; I would estimate that I paid full price for about 1/3 of the puzzles I did this year. The rest came from discount stores like Tuesday Morning or were purchased on sale. I have to anticipate that I’ll spend less money on puzzles this year based on the size of my to do stash, which I’ll post later!
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk!

2021.10.16 16:38 DelightfulWhimsy Men Dancing in Open Jackets, Open Shirts and Less

Here's a varied selection of clips that were fun to put together. As the title suggests, there's a prerequisite to be performing in order to feature too. I'd love to read what you think about some of these outfits or what concepts you think the artists are going for.
2PM I’ll Be Back live Future 2PM are true to their word, and they come back.
2PM Heartbeat live Here Taecyeon, Chansung and Wooyoung agreed to be assistants in a magic show, but didn’t realise it would run over time, luckily Junho and Jun.K were ready to start the performance until the others arrived, and Nichkhun knew the audience would be distracted if he played violin without a bow.
KIM JAEJOONG Mine MV This is one of my favourite MVs. There are so many aesthetically pleasing ideas and bold stylistic choices here, and the song is fabulous as well. Jaejoong is so dynamic.
NCT U Don’t Stop live I prefer Ten’s styling over Taeyong’s here. Ten’s unfinished belt, and patched jeans are a cleaner look than Taeyong’s open jacket, belt we don’t see properly and jeans with holes cut out of them, which gives balance to the whole look but not enough.
NCT 127 Kick It liveIf only they’d saved the fabric they used for the dangling ties, then they could have fashioned tops for both Johnny and Taeyong.
TEN Paint Me Naked live TEN is offering free creative advice to the right person.
TVXQ Mirotic MV I know you’re watching the dancing and thinking the same thing as me – what's with the white shoes?
KAI Mmmh MV Quite possibly this song was titled ‘Mmmh’ so that the fans didn’t need to come up with any superlatives to describe it because ‘Mmmh’ is just right.
EXO Love Shot live Kai’s individual display of shooting accuracy is impressive and obviously the rest of EXO follow up with their own skilful display.
EXO Obsession live I wrote this previously about the superior Obsession look! And watch Kai and Baekhyun’s eyes glow red at the ending fairy stage. Some of you will notice Kai and Suho for the duration of the clip but if you watch it again you’ll see so many elegant style points. Firstly, every jacket is cut completely differently, even the lapels. They’ve used black as the base colour but have introduced two cool colours, blue and silver. Silver is used so cleverly in their shirts, accessories (expect for Suho’s gold chain) and as a hair colour to complement Baekhyun and Chanyeol’s blue suits. Every outfit mixes matt and shiny leather flawlessly. There’s black patent leather in every suit and Chanyeol’s lapels, Baekhyun’s sleeve and Sehun’s ‘X’ feature on the back of his jacket all add to the cohesiveness of these outfits.
SUPER JUNIOR Sexy Free & Single MV What’s your preference? SUPER JUNIOR in collars and ties, or SUPER JUNIOR just in collars? This clip has so many fabulous design pieces, and such a range of fashions. And let's not forget Bingo!
SUPER JUNIOR Bonamana MV When was the last time your saw an MV that had the members all clicking their fingers together? Leeteuk missed the ‘bring a t-shirt or two’ message on the day of the shoot.
BIGBANG Bang Bang Bang MV The Shinjeong S5 armoured vehicle has a reputation for being a difficult to tame but Taeyang has taken the reigns and has it under control.
TAEYANG Eyes, Nose, Lips MV What a beautiful and iconic song!
TAEMIN Danger MV Wow! Every time I watch this MV I find something more fascinating to see than the last.
STRAY KIDS Thunderous MV What a captivating MV, there's just so much to look at.
SHINEE Everybody MV This is such an entertaining MV! SHINEE are amazing!
ATEEZ I’m the One/Fireworks live I loved this comeback. The variety of outfits was outstanding. ATEEZ look so smart and cool in black, but my favourite outfits were this colourful set . They’re so stylish, appealing and well made.
100% Beat MV 100% are experimenting with the best wardrobe for a robot. They’ve heard that robots look great in buckles and need to try a variety of pieces themselves to get the design just right.
100% Want U Back MV In a large fitting room, 100% have some big decisions to make about which outfits are going to help them in their quest to re-establish a relationship.
HUTA Ya MV Minhyuk can dance on any world he visits.
VIXX On and On MV Luckily VIXX landed and could share this fabulous song with us.
VIXX Chained Up live This is one of my all time favourite looks in K-pop, and of course, I love this song.
DALMATION E.R MV DALMATION need help. They’ve applied to be living exhibits at the Art Gallery but the curator needs to assess their artwork and keep them alive prior to the show.
KIM HYUNJOONG Unbreakable MV I’d argue this clip was cool and interesting without the dancing at the end.
MBLAQ Oh Yeah MV This is one of my absolute favourite MVs. It's a visual feast. I will write a whole post about it one day. I love it!
MBLAQ Smoky Girl live Ever so stylish MBLAQ just letting 2021 know they could be the inspiration for many 4th gen groups – peek-a-boo jacket anyone?
MBLAQ Y live G.O wears a jacket for this stage but removes it half way through. Underneath is a classic v-neck t-shirt and it looks great. At a later performance, he just rocks up in the v-neck t-shirt. He's that cool! This track was tough on Lee Joon’s jacket buttons.
JJCC Oneway MV Here JJCC wonder if their love will be reciprocated if they make minor adjustments to their outfits.
KNK Sunset MV When KNK were asked to make a runway anthem they didn’t bat an eyelid, ‘this is just our life everyday’ they explained.
A-JAX One 4 U MV In this song, A-JAX are showing there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for love – wearing overly bedazzled clothing, getting locked in oversized birdcages, dancing in sand (this is challenging), imagining themselves with superpowers and designing their own line of superhero costumes. I can’t help but think that their ‘go big or go home’ approach probably met with rejection.
THE LEGEND Shadow MV ‘Loose your head now’ is how this song starts so I wondered if this was a message to prepare for the many patterned outfits coming up.
PENTAGON Dr BeBe live I like this styling. They’ve played with many different fabrics and textures, and they look good together.
ACE Goblin MV I love this MV, it’s creative, colourful and fun.
GREATGUYS Be On You MV I’ve struggled to interpret this MV (not an unusual occurrence though) but it’s possibly a dream or wishful thinking.
TEY (MR MR) Dangerous MV Tey is on a mission to break up a relationship.
DIOS Touch Me MV Apparently, this is a pre-debut single.
SF9 Teardrop live As a collection, these outfits don’t work for me because there’s too much difference in them – from fabric choice to style and fit, my eyes weren’t happy. Individually, Taeyang’s stood out though.
BZ-BOYS Close Your Eyes live BZ-BOYS all wear the same cropped jacket but with different amounts of fabric underneath.
HISTORY Might Just Die MV HISTORY are trying to resurrect a relationship with one final performance.
WONHO Open Mind MV Wonho has a proposition to make. But also, not many would know this, but he’s fond of experiments, so when he was asked if his sports car was faster than a panther from 0 – 100 kms he happily participated in the race. Luckily it was caught on film.
WONHO Lose MV Wonho tries to convince us that he’s on the losing end of love.
How could I pick a favourite from this lot? Please add your suggestions of Men Dancing in Open Jackets, Open Shirts and Less to the comments, and a description of their concepts would be fun too. Back to suits next week!
