2024.05.15 12:14 alxrnexlj dsa help plsplsplspsl

So I’m gonna dsa to eunoia jc but i can’t decide what to dsa with?? i originally wanted to apply through two areas (cca and humanities program) but i emailed them and they said i only can apply through one :( There’s pros and cons for applying through either but i’m trying to max out my chances of getting in BUT i can’t decide which one will give me a higher chance of getting in 😭
some background abt me:
I’m an o-level music student, been in a co since sec 1 and absolutely adore co. I play double bass but i also play guzheng (doing guzheng as my perf paper for music os) and i have some conducting experience. Been aiming for ej since p6. Outside of school I’m a writer working on my debut novel, have published some stuff online and very passionate about literature. I absolutely adore humanities and i fully intent to do humanities as my career. I’m planning to take mep + h2 history and lit + h1 maths because my maths in trash. Also plan to get into the humanities programme (i emailed ej if it’s possible to me under two programmes at once (mep and humans) and they said yea as long as u only receive scholarship for one, so i’m planning to do that)
cca (chinese orchestra)
pros:
-grade 7 bass
-grade 4 guzheng outside of co
-section leader
-syf distinction
-ejco cello bass section lowkey not that great so they might accept me if they despo???
-other performances outside of school (my cher calls them via so)
-leadership is ok (class chair sec 4, via exco sec2-3)
cons:
-my bass playing is quite average (nothing too special yk…)
-quite competitive (they rejected my snr last yr even though shes the best percussionist ik)
-they don’t really need bass? (a while back i asked them how to decide which application to accept, they said they first look at whether they need that specific instrument that year…i asked if they need bass and they said not really no😭)
-i’m only a section leader not exco (they look at via and leadership)
-my academics are not the best (As except for fails in both maths)
humans
pros:
-writer (9? years of writing experience)
-have published works online
-published in an online magazine
-commonwealth essay competition 2022 bronze award(was gon do this year but decided not to)
-very passionate about humanities (i want to do historical/ethno-linguistics in uni, my upcoming novel is very focussed on history and culture and society)
-consistently done well for english and humanities (A1 for english and comb humans, music isn’t counted as humans for me but it’s generally B4-A2)
-lots of via! I did a student initiated project (which we had to seek permission from the principal) to save my school cat (vet visits, find caretaker, present to the school etc) apart from self-initiated via projs, i was class via exco for two years
-leadership ok (class chair)
cons:
-didn’t take part in humanities-specific comps like bymun (wasn’t open to me cuz i’m not a pure humans student 😭😭)
-my other academics are not that good (science is ok (A1) it’s the MATHS it’s very hard for me to pass/do well in maths… working on it tho!) since humans prog is an academic prog i’m worried that they’ll really consider my academics a lot more compared to co
-only have 1 humans subj to back me up
-don’t have teachers to write testimonial for me (maybe except my history elective teacher??)
pls help!! i really dk which to apply for. I’m really passionate about both co and humans so i’m really stuck 😭😭😭 THANK YOU SM
+if you’re looking at my math grades and thinking oh shit you probably shouldn’t go jc you’re gonna struggle w maths, save it cuz I KNOW😭 i’m not giving up though, i’m working on my maths full time (i dropped my pure science just to spend more time on my maths) and i really hope i can do well in os if not for my l1r5, but at least to understand the basics before jc maths
++if i can think of anything more ill just chuck it in

2024.05.14 13:11 FireOfScorpion How hard is getting into NUST

I'm an Ics student currently giving boards for 1st year and have been doing research on unis. My original plan was to go abroad for bs on a fully funded scholarship but cant really find much info on it and wtv info i do find it just points me to doing bs in pakistan and going for ms abroad.
Now that the context is out of the way, Im a fairly good student and got 86 percent in matric bc of being lazy but currently im working towards getting 90+ in first year and then giving NET. I read a lot of ppl being worried abt not getting into nust or the merit being too high so just wanted to ask how difficult is getting into nust for cs?
Other than that i dont come from a well off family and the fees is wayy too high for our budget, I've read abt nusts need based scholarship but dk much details abt it. Can I get a complete waiver on my tuition fee if i can prove the need?

2024.05.13 20:12 Critical_Link_1095 Where can I find a good source of lists for US University Scholarships for Pakistanis?

I have a friend in Pakistan who is studying Civil Enginnering. He has two years left of his education, and his is desperately wanting to finish his education in the US so that he can find a partner here and be allowed to job search here after graduation.
Those of you who managed to get a US Scholarship, what did you use? How did you do it?

2024.05.13 19:15 BudgetBass2 WHERE AM I GOING IN LIFE? DEPRESSED EXAM PRESSURE WORRIED ABOUT FUTURE

Hi there! I'm in A2. Scored 8A*s in IGCSE & 2AS 2BS in AS level. My A2 journey was going smooth until the December 2023. It was the time I got into university applications. I applied like 35 places across USA, Europe, Asia, and got into 21 places. For the context, I got into reputable places like NYU, Uni of Helsinki, Uni of Amsterdam, Uni of Nottingham, etc. However, securing an admission, getting scholarships, but at the end, the finances I had weren't enough for me or my parents to fund my dream of foreign undergrad. Two months of tireless essays writings, application process, research, sitting infront of laptop screen all night with a hope I can get into a good uni abroad, it all got wasted at the end. None of the unis gave me enough that would enable my parents to pay the rest. I got into the depression, especially because of NYU. It had the acceptance rate of just below 7% for the class of 2028, i did not only got into the place i used to manifest as a teen, but also was lucky to secure a 55k USD aid per year, which wasn't enough. But as they say, too close yet to far.
Came the month of Feb, 24, it was all certain that my dream of studying undergrad abroad is over. I had to settle in my own country for the undergrad; I'm from Pakistan btw. Here, admissions are based on the entry tests at universities which come from local board syllabus not much from A-levels. I decided to appear for entry test of NUST, a local engineering university. There was NOTHING in the test that same similar to A-levels content. I did really bad. But, the good thing was that in order to secure an admission, the weightage criteria is 25% of IGCSE result + 75% of entry test marks. They don't count A2 if u are NOT on gap year.
From feb to march, I nailed the local board syllabus; A-levels kept getting ignored. I went to give the entry test, it went BAD again despite me cramming the local board syllabus by my heart. I resumed A-levels back in April. I'm now at a point that:
1) I can't go abroad for U-grad despite the admissions
2) Not well prepared for local uni admission tests cuz their test syllabus is local board stuff not CAIE. I'm not used to local board cramming based learning
3) I've destroyed my A-levels. My exams are going really sh*t. I don't discuss my paper with friends. I'm leaving questions in the exams. I feel like I'm absent when the question comes up. I messed up chem p4, physics p4 I'm expecting 45+, S1 I'm expecting 30+.
NEVER IN MY LIFE I'VE FELT SO MUCH DOWN. MAYBE GOD IS TRYING TO TEST ME. PLEASE PRAY THAT THE TEST FROM GOD FINISHES BEFORE I FINISH. AMEEN

hello everyone, i’ve encountered a very unique issue while applying for the isu scholarship. The caf associated with bocconi requires documents to be apostille stamped or legalized by the italian embassy. i am from a third world country and our italian embassy is saying they don’t legalize tax returns and the foreign affairs is saying that apostille stamping hasn’t been started from the ministry.
does anyone know of someone i could reach out to in bocconi that can help with the issue? i am literally at a dead stop because i can’t afford to come without the scholarship. talking specifically about pakistan here but if anyone else has navigated a similar situation i’d love to talk. i literally can’t get my documents legalized as things stand right now: it’s just not possible and i fear that i might lose out on the opportunity

2024.05.11 16:31 shaziscancelled Vent and Advice?

So I'm a 03 student in Pakistan and I got an A* in GP and 2 Bs both in Urdu and islamiat (considering my old result this was a significant improvement). Right now I'm appearing for my CAIES of O3 and it's extremely nerve wracking because I need 5 more A* if I'm gonna do A levels (my parents said I'm doing Alevels on scholarship otherwise they can't afford it) I'm appearing for 7 subjects right now (10 subjects total) and p.st went well enough where A* is completely possible which was suprising. According to my sir and what I remember of my maths exam A is possible but A* is trivial. English can go anyways not sure. Bio p2 was not that good 60+ probably but P4 was really really good 38 possible. I NEED 5 A* and honestly I'm starting to get extremely out of touch with myself and studies atp and I am also falling sick quite often, my drive to study is not there and I'm scared of the coming exams (phys, comp, em etc). I feel extremely anti social and drained. Do you guys have any advice as to what I should do

2024.05.10 21:55 Novel-Quit-3538 Done with digital marketing 6 months specialization now what?

Hello, I am currently in the midst of a digital marketing and e-commerce specialization offered by Google. I will be completing it within a few days as I currently have approximately 2-3 months of free time before I start university (I'm taking a gap year). In addition to this, I have completed several courses related to AI, marketing, and leadership from esteemed institutions like Wharton-UPenn, Yale, Stanford, and Cambridge. I pursued these courses to gain experience and secure internships with companies, particularly in virtual settings, across various fields such as digital marketing, project management, data analysis, SEO specialization, or any marketing-oriented role, regardless of whether it's paid or unpaid. Could someone please suggest my next steps to increase my chances of landing an internship? As a high school graduate, I believe I have substantial knowledge compared to others. I'm unsure if my volunteering experiences (three with the United Nations) and my previous passion projects (including a fundraising organization and a learning community) will strengthen my profile. I have also completed internships through Forage, which aren't really good thefor looking other options. It's important to note that I come from a less developed area in Pakistan. Ultimately, I am working on building my profile via these courses , speclizations and internships to fulfill my dream of attending Wharton Business School with highest possible merit scholarship and financial aid for graduation.

2024.05.10 09:36 Beam_be Should I opt for CS or MBBS?

I have completed matric and expecting 90% or more. I had 89% in 9th grade.
(matric equals O-levels)(MBBS/BDS are degrees for becoming a doctor)
I was wondering which field I should opt for, I have 2 fields in mind.
MBBS & Computer Science
I have made an assessment of the two.
Please don't say "follow your passion" instead give me pros and cons of the aforementioned fields. I consider myself a logical person.
CS
More chances of acceptance on first attempt even in Pakistan's top universities or maybe even a scholarship abroad.
lesser time taken to start earning.
Great chances of getting work abroad.
Could earn from freelancing right after 1st year.
Cheaper than MBBS.
Unsecure; Finding a job and then maintaining it "might" prove difficult.
MBBS/BDS
Less chances on first attempt. I might have to waste an year.
More time taken to start earning.
Good chances of getting work abroad.
No source of earning until housejob.
Private BDS/MBBS is out of the question due to financial reasons.
Unsecure; Getting into a medical college. After that getting a job is relatively easier.
Do note that over 50,000 candidates compete for 1200 seats in MBBS colleges and the acceptance ranges from 89% to 94%
Also I really really wanna study and live abroad.
or is there any other field which guarantees a better future abroad?
Please feel free to ask more questions 🙏

2024.05.09 19:34 ActionRepulsive9150 Really need help

Okay so tomorrow is the last day for me to pay for LUMS and I really need advice 😭 I’m currently super confused between two schools: LUMS and Knox College in the US. Now Knox College has given me a huge scholarship so I don’t have to pay that much therefore money isn’t a problem. Personally after doing research on the school, I really like it since smaller settings are more my kind of thing. However everyone keeps telling me that LUMS is the best school in Pakistan and not going there would be a waste. If I go to the US I also have a shot at transferring to a better school after two years so there’s that. Btw I’m not from Lahore, I’m from Karachi so I’d have to live on campus at LUMS. I’m reallyy confused and could use some advice so pleaseee help me honestly. Also, my intended major is computer science.
