2024.04.29 04:16 worlds2get LA Fitness at DTLA off Flower: Is the Pool really 25m?

Asked one of the employees at the desk and they said it was an Olympic size pool which I already knew was incorrect. Does anyone have the specific length before I sign up for a membership? I can't afford Gold's and lord knows I'm not trying to do the LA Athletic Club.

2024 Lead Score Spreadsheet, or Fun with Data, Rhythmic Gymnastics Edition.
Following on the heals of my friend u/bretonstripes's Lead Score Tracker for WAG/MAG this is a lead score tracking spread sheet using 2024 FIG Group 2 meets to help give a sense of where the Olympic favorites are.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cziT93VgDtFl3ayrQjKa3DsLvfUj50wwRL7QfIQjSQU/edit#gid=0
The sheet tracks the top 75 All Around Scores at World Cups (and Continental Championships eventually) and the top 120 Apparatus scores, where the score was earned and how old the score is.
The color coding indicates how many Olympic spots that the gymnast's country has: Dark Green (2), Light Green (1), Gold (holds a nominative spot), and Gray (Can not go to the Olympics). White are countries that still have a qualifying path available (if a narrow one).

2024.04.29 00:44 Booger_Swamp Crossover Athlete Recommendations - Club Soccer / HS Hoops / HS Soccer to Club Lacrosse / HS Hoops / HS Soccer

My 15-yo daughter is contemplating a move from club soccer (ECNL Regional - second tier level) into club lacrosse in the Charlotte area. She is a striker in soccer and point guard in basketball. Her best traits are being fast and aggressive. She is not a national level player in her age group, but her traits carry her and she's getting some looks regionally, by D2/D3 schools, which is good for her age. We are meeting with one of the recommended clubs this week, but I don't even know where to start. I don't even know what gear to get her, but we will support her in whatever decision she makes. Any recommendations on the right questions to ask, or how to even start this process would be amazing. Thanks!

2024.04.28 22:37 SproutingAwareness 20 y/o, Should I get back into playing squash?

I'm 20 years old. I played squash for the first time when I was 16/17 years old at Tabor Academy Summer Camp in Massachusetts. I loved playing the sport then, I had so much fun. I played occasionally at the ASC&D Court in Keene, NH, one of the oldest courts in the US. I got some lessons, but since that summer camp I have gradually played less and less squash for 3 reasons. 1. There weren't any major clubs near where I lived in New Hampshire 2. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on lessons 3. most of the people at the club I went to were over 50 years old.
I have always had a place in my heart for squash, having fond memories of intense rallies and breaking a heavy sweat. I'm now living in Boulder, Colorado on my own. I'm not currently in the college, though I might be going to the University of New Hampshire in the fall (I think they have one squash court that isn't really used much).
My questions is: Should I get back into squash? I'm working a sales job that can be grueling at times, and when brainstorming activities I could look forward to doing outside of work, squash came to mind. I'd love to get back into playing squash. The only thing holding me back is the financial commitment. I think the Colorado Athletic Club Flatirons has a $90 monthly membership fee. I would want to get lessons, at least weekly I think. That would add an additional expense (not sure exactly how much). I have an inconsistent income with my sales job and am trying to save up as much money as possible.
Anyway, I'd love any feedback I can get. Has anybody else been in a similar situation to what I'm in?
I hear squash will be in the 2028 Olympics which is exciting, maybe because of that squash will become more accessible and popular as a sport in the US.
TLDR: 20 years old. Enjoyed playing a combined year of squash when I was younger. Currently living in Boulder, CO and considering getting back into the sport, but hesitant to because of financial commitment.

2024.04.28 15:53 ArmDifficult5552 Do I need to play for a Highschool to play in college, or is club enough?

I live in a non traditional lacrosse area (I.e not in the Northeast) and my school doesn't have its own lacrosse team. All the teams used to be town clubs, but the sport became state HS association sanctioned and the most clubs folded. Only a few local schools kept teams. The co-op my school uses is ending because they are now able to field a team with their own students. Is playing summer travel lax and going to showcases enough or is this going to hurt my chances. I haven't seen any college coaches in the stands at a game up to this point I will add I think I am D3 material, not higher than that. Thanks for any insight.

2024.04.28 03:43 Loose_Spell_4639 I don’t know what to do

Hi I’m a gr 11 student :)
I average roughly a 91%, I do robotics at my school, I play 3 school sports (volleyball, tennis & lacrosse), I’m apart of two clubs; Art club (executive role) & Girls in tech club! I work part time to save up as well. I also do the automotive shsm at my school, we are a very tech/steam involved school.
I am conflicted on what to do. I think I can get into a school no problem, but where or how I don’t know. I’m interested in mechatronics but it’s not really offered in a lot of places, but I most likely will be applying to mechanical engineering programs.
What programs are accredited worldwide and are worth it to apply for mechanical engineering or mechatronics? (with Co-op)
I was thinking Windsor because it’s the automotive capital and I can get a nice co-op job there, but I don’t know where else to consider, or if I should choose a mechatronics program somewhere else that would be good too (i would prefer that but I am unfamiliar with the programs available).
If anyone knows more about the topic, please lmk!!!!

2024.04.27 23:31 uzzeli Dylan Laube Scouting Report

Dylan Laube Scouting Report
Thank you to The Athletic's Dane Brugler for this scouting report. You can find more in his annual draft guide, The Beast.
DYLAN LAUBE New Hampshire 5097 206 lbs. 6SR Westhampton, N.Y. (Beach) 12/14/1999 (age 24.36)
BACKGROUND: Dylan Laube (rhymes with WOW-bee), one of three boys, grew up in a family of athletes and lived in a small town in the Hamptons area. His father (Kyle) played hockey, and his mother (Noel) was a standout basketball player and set her high school’s all-time scoring record (1,120 points) in 1994. Laube played multiple sports throughout childhood, including baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer and wrestling. He started playing football at age 5 on his older brother’s team (Buccaneers) in a league for 6-to 8-year-olds (their father was the coach). He started playing running back at age 6 and modeled his look after Mike Alstott, including the No. 40 and a neckroll, which he wore until his junior year of high school. Laube attended Westhampton Beach High School and quickly earned a move up to varsity as a freshman running back and safety. After rushing for more than 1,000 yards as a sophomore, he was named the top running back in the county as a junior with 2,151 rushing yards on 180 carries (12.0 average), 202 receiving yards and a pair of return touchdowns on special teams. Laube was even better as a senior in 2017, when he led Westhampton Beach to a 12-0 record and the school’s first Suffolk County and Long Island Championships (he scored six touchdowns in the title game). He finished his final season with a school-record 2,680 rushing yards on 249 carries (10.8 average) and a Long Island-record 47 touchdowns, which earned him the Carl A. Hansen Award as the top player in Long Island. Laube left Westhampton Beach as the school’s record -holder for career rushing yards (6,495) and touchdowns (120), and he also recorded 1,234 career receiving yards and five return touchdowns. He lettered in lacrosse, as well.
A no-star recruit, Laube wasn’t ranked by recruiting services and actually received better offers to play college lacrosse. But his love was football, and he attended numerous camps with the hope of landing a scholarship. He also battled an illness for three months during his junior year, though, and lost 20 pounds, which kept him from getting noticed. Laube impressed (especially when catching the football) at a summer camp before his senior year and earned a scholarship offer from FCS New Hampshire. During the pandemic, he joined a club lacrosse team. After his junior season, several ACC programs reached out with transfer opportunities (including NIL deals), but he decided to stay at New Hampshire. His older brother (Devin) played defensive line at Division III Endicott College (2016-19). His younger brother (Deegan) is also a running back and just finished his freshman season at FCS Holy Cross. Laube accepted his invitation to the 2024 Senior Bowl.

STRENGTHS: Stocky build with developed muscle throughout his lower half and torso … reliable focus and catches the ball naturally outside his frame … has the downfield tracking skills of a wide receiver … built low to the ground and runs hard between the tackles … feels cutback lanes with the foot quickness to consistently set up and make the first defender miss … accelerates away from pursuit on tape … clearly pushes himself in the weight room (NFL scout: “He fits the ‘best kid is your hardest worker’ cliché.”) … senior captain, and his coaches say he was one of the more vocal players at practice and games … productive return man with four return touchdowns in his career … averaged 12.5 yards per punt return (34/426/2) and 24.5 yards per kick return (90/2,207/2) … loaded up the stat sheet with 7,197 all-purpose yards in his college career.
WEAKNESSES: More quick than sudden and will have a tougher time eluding defenders in space … loses some of his steam in his plant-and-go cuts … inconsistent tempo with inside-lane development … competitive runner, but he doesn’t have move-the-pile power as an inside runner … not a large target in the passing game with below-average length to rescue off-target throws (five drops in 2023) … fumbled seven times in college and had one muffed punt in 2023 … almost all of his production came against FCS competition.
SUMMARY: A two-year starter at New Hampshire, Laube was a versatile weapon in head coach Rick Santos’ offensive scheme, lining up in the backfield and in the slot. He led the Wildcats in both rushing and receiving in 2023, including a memorable performance (single-game school-record 295 receiving yards, including two receptions of 70-plus yards) against Central Michigan — the only FBS opponent on New Hampshire’s 2023 schedule. He also led the NCAA (all divisions) in all-purpose yards per game (209.5) in 2023. A composed and dynamic receiving back, Laube is always in the right place at the right time on his routes and has the hand-eye coordination to cleanly snare throws while at top speed. Though he plays strong through contact, his burst and creativity are much better in the open field. Overall, Laube might not be a full-time running back or receiver in the NFL, but he has the multi-dimensional skill set that overlaps both positions and offers value on special teams. The Danny Woodhead comparison is a little on the nose, but it best encapsulates Laube’s versatile talent.

2024.04.27 19:28 Charmer2024 Fitness Health and wellness recommendations?

Time to make new and good habits. Not that I’ll be doing all at the same time but I wanted to get some recommendations on these different types of fitness offerings. Ideally any recs for places downtown or as east as Scarborough and everything in between. Other parts of Toronto for a specific activity I’ll specify.
And lastly, any gym or group etc that has a community built around health and fitness while making friends and meeting people around that space. From a full-timer who has no life and work has become their life so forcing themselves to create better balance.
You don’t have to have all the answers or answer each. You can respond with what you know. Time to make health and wellness a lifestyle and not a goal. Let’s get active

2024.04.27 18:29 Spirited_Duty_462 Scar tissue and tendinitis. 14 months PO

Hello! I've posted here before about ongoing pain 1+ years post op. I do Olympic weightlifting so it's very quad dominant, and I had a replacement with my quad tendon. Saw a sports med doc who said I had superficial and deep scar tissue and mild tendonosis, and sent me for more PT with dry needling, ASTYM and scraping. I can't start for another few weeks, so was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to help break it up on my own.. is foam rolling/lacrosse ball beneficial? Massage gun? Paid massage? I am doing a ton of quad and glute stuff because my muscles are still a lot weaker. Im really not wanting to get surgery to remove it.

2024.04.27 14:21 A_dalo If you wanted to walk a stupidly long distance in on day, where would you go?

I'm considering earning my InternetIdiotOlympics (IIO) street cred by joining the small club of fools who have walked 100,000 steps in one day. No I'm not asking for opinions if this is a good idea, it's most assuredly not. One can't join the ranks of the IIO by making good choices. But anyoooo, I'm an experienced long distance walker and I'm estimating 100k steps to be somewhere in the 60-70km range. Location is going to be key here. It needs to be consistently pretty flat with an easy trail. An ideally some shade and somewhere I'm not having to dodge getting running over by 1d100 entitled bicyclists (per hour). But a flat route is the most important.
Where in Středočeský would you recommend to undertake such foolishness? I'm thinking maybe along the Labe? Because it's got a footpath going along much of it and multiple direct access points from Prague? Also, it's a river and that theoretically means the route should be pretty flat. Downsides is that there will definitely be bicyclists (oh my nemesis) and it'll probably get pretty repetitive and maybe too sunny since I'm planning this at the end of may when the daylight's the longest. Route might be starting in Podebrady and heading along the Labe towards Melnik and seeing how far I get before I hit 100k (or quit) (or get hit by bicycle-kun and teleported into an isekai novel).
Any suggestions?

2024.04.27 02:23 PresidentRaggy [MATCH THREAD] Chelsea Woman vs. Barcelona Women, 27/04, 17:30 (WCL)

FINAL: Barcelona 2-0 Chelsea (2-1 agg.)

Date: Saturday, 27 April, 2024
KO: 17:30 UK time
Competition: Women’s Champions League semi-finals, match 2 (1-0 agg.)
Venue: Stamford Bridge (sold out!)
TV/streaming: TNT Sports 3/DAZN
Welcome to the /chelsealadiesfc match thread as the Blues host the Blaugranas at a sold-out Stamford Bridge! Here you will find a preview of tonight’s match, squad notes, and updates once we kick off in SW6.

MATCH PREVIEW

Barcelona Feminí visit West London this evening for this do-or-die tie with Chelsea. After their first victory against the Spanish side one week ago, the Blues are eyeing their second appearance in a European final. Emma Hayes’ side only need to hold the Spanish giants to a draw to advance to the final in Bilbao, which is about 608 kilometres northwest of Barcelona.
Hayes went with a 5-3-2 formation last Saturday afternoon which featured Lauren James and Mayra Ramirez up top, a midfield of captain Erin Cuthbert, Sjoeke Nüsken and Melanie Leupolz, and then Ashley Lawrence, Jess Carter, Kadeisha Buchanan, Niamh Charles, and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd as the quintet in defence.
Cuthbert’s magnificent strike stunned the home crowd at the Lluis Company Olympic Stadium on 40 minutes, and a well-disciplined Chelsea side shut out the current title-holders to bring home their first win against Jonatan Giráldez’s side and hand Barca their first home loss in five years.
Now, the second tie is upon us and the home side hold a tenuous one-goal lead. The Blues know they face a difficult test in tonight’s opponents – who thoroughly beat Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League final, and knocked us out of the competition at this phase of the competition last year. Barcelona have an impressive pedigree, and multiple players who were on that 2023 World Cup squad, though they have been shown to be not invincible in this year’s European competition.
Chelsea are undefeated in the Champions League this term but had to fight their way to get that result – past Madrid, Hacken, and Paris FC in the group stage, and then Ajax in the quarter-finals. The Catalans will be eager to rectify the 0-1 loss to Chelsea in their own backyard, and the Blues need to be focused for every moment to see this through.
“For us as a team, we have to be so mindful that we cannot switch off for one single second,” Emma Hayes said in a pre-match conference. “This is a game that’s played in the head, first and foremost. We know we have to be perfect in order to progress.”
Tickets have sold out, the club announced – with attendees witnessing Emma Hayes’ last game in charge at the Bridge. The Chelsea faithful will surely be in a spirited and strong-voiced mood with such a massive opportunity on the line for European glory.
Millie Bright will be available for selection, having been out of action since November with a knee injury.
Paris Saint-Germain host Lyon in the other semi-final match, and trail 3-2 on aggregate.
HOW TO WATCH
For fans in the UK who can’t make it to the Bridge, this match will be on TNT Sports 3.
The game will be broadcast by DAZN on their website.
As always, the CFCW Twitter account will provide behind-the-scenes photos and live updates.

24' Charles does well down the other end to box Graham Hansen out.
25' GOAL. Bonmati's shot takes a touch off Buchanan's heel and past Hannah Hampton into goal.
30' Blues are able to deal with a Barca corner and try to get something going here.
31' CLOSE from Leupolz who was offside!! Come oN!!!!
38’ Again close - should have scored there
HT: BAR 1-0 CHE (1-1 agg)
59’ Buchanan sent off on second yellow; Chelsea down to 10.
64' CHE sub: Reiten on for Macario.
67' BAR sub: Caldentey on for Batlle.
65’ Still fighting! Updates aren’t saving for some reason

FULL TIME: Barcelona’s two goals today mean they’re onto another Champions League final. We bow out and the dream of European glory comes to an end after a hard fought tie on both fronts. Attacking players were sorely missed, and we can't ignore the impact of tw major refereeing decisions against us today.

2024.04.26 15:42 Ah_here_like Singing God Save The King not a big issue for most people in NI, insists DUP’s Gordon Lyons

https://m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/singing-god-save-the-king-not-a-big-issue-for-most-people-in-ni-insists-dups-gordon-lyons/a1612986284.html
Gordon Lyons believes the singing of God Save The King before Northern Ireland internationals and the Irish Cup Final is not a big deal for the ‘vast majority of people’ in this country.
The national anthem debate surrounding football here has been a hot potato for decades.
For DUP Sports Minister Lyons, though, it is all pretty straightforward.
He told the Belfast Telegraph: “It’s an issue there has been a little bit of noise around, but I don’t really think it is a concern for most people.
“I don’t think it will be any surprise to hear that I’m glad it’s sung and I’m happy it continues to be sung.
“There is a bit of noise that has been created about it, but I don’t think it is an issue for the vast majority of people.”
Another age-old topic that generates interest is talk of an all-Ireland football team. On that, Lyons says: “I support the Northern Ireland team, and want to see the Northern Ireland team remain, and I think the overwhelming majority of fans do as well.” In club terms, the Minister’s team is Larne, who retained the Sports Direct Premiership title and will be presented with the trophy on Saturday at Inver Park, though it may surprise you to learn who his sporting hero is.
Lyons revealed: “If I had to choose one, as a tennis fan, I’d probably say Roger Federer, whose consistency as a professional for such a long time was incredible.
“I played a bit of tennis, but mostly at school, it would have been rugby and football.
“I love swimming and did quite a bit in my early teens. Now, I would do a lot of open water swimming out at Ballygally. I love it, just getting out into the cold water. It’s probably the most enjoyable sport that I do now.”
In 2024, Daniel Wiffen will hope to swim to Olympic glory. He won’t be the only Northern Ireland star going for gold, with the likes of Rhys McClenaghan, Ciara Mageean and Rory McIlroy also hoping to be on the top step of the podium in Paris.
Lyons said: “The honour of a gold medal for someone coming from Northern Ireland would be incredible.
“We are a small place and so often punch above our weight. I have to mention Claire Taggart from Larne in the Paralympics. Hopefully, our athletes can do really well

2024.04.26 14:40 Enough-Witness-6803 Am i competitive for USAFA?

Ive worked on my resume for the past year and have been able to add a lot to it. Here it is:
Currently 30 hours in a Cessna, solo'ed.
3.6 (will be 3.8 after this semester) GPA with 22 college credits and 2 honors classes (Algebra 2 and smn else i cant remember). Here are the college classes I've taken: CAM 160-400: Machining I, CAM 161: Machining II, CAM 122: CNC Mill Applications, CAM 216: Basic CAD/CAM, ENG 111: Composition 1, EET 101: Circuit Analysis I, EET 165: Automation Control: PLC I, ENG 130: Intro to Technical Comm, SKT 153 Fluid Power: Pneumatics/Logic. I also have a 10 hour OSHA certification and a Snap-On multimeter certification if that means anything.
My GPA has improved massively since Freshman year, from 2.9 too now.
Will have an internship starting this summer HOPEFULLY at GM Powertrain (GM and there internship program is kind of falling apart right now) but it will be anywhere with manufacturing. If that doesn't workout, it will be a place with a large focus on CNC machining and designing. I currently have a job landscaping.
Was Vice-President of a financial literacy club, and President of Chess Club for one year. Member of debate club for 2 years. Current a member of a community service club getting service hours and I also signed up to volunteer at Special Olympics on February 23rd. I'm also apart of a peer-to-peer mentorship program as a mentor. I'm also signed up for Red Cross volunteering over this summer.
Currently signed up for the Marine Core Marathon in October and I've gotten a ACCESS GRANTED pass from running and finishing the Marine Core 17.75. I'm an avid weightlifter and have gotten to 5'10" 240lbs (like 40%bf) to 185lbs (19-20%bf) in a little over a year. Still losing weight and getting leaner. My school offers 1 sport without a varsity letter (bowling) so I didn't care to participate in it.
I believe I'm competitive for a nomination from my congressional representative as the school I go to is held in fairly high standards by her and the district itself has very little competition.
I took my SAT and got a 1300 first time. I'm very confident I could score better as I wasn't able to study as much as i wanted, really only getting like 2-4 hours a week.
If i got my SAT up to 1400, am i competitive?
