2024.05.14 02:29 dallasdweller HCL, bile, and motility

I’ve begun taking HCL and bile about a week ago and it makes me feel better when eating, as in my stomach has no pain during or immediately after and it reduces my chronic belching by 80%. However, it increases my bloating and makes my constipation much worse. Magnesium oxide which has previously been the only thing that could touch it now doesn’t help at all. All the other motility supplements and tips from this sub have never helped.
Anyone else experience this? I can only find post after post talking about how HCL/bile/TUDCA improve motility, so I’m very confused.
I’m a very active, very otherwise healthy male in his 20s. I just don’t get it. Trying to get my motility under control before I start SIBO treatment.

2024.05.14 02:09 phanesatlas chronic salmonella? secondary illness caused by salmonella?

hi. to hopefully get answers i’ll try to keep this brief. 31f, 140lbs, no chronic issues except migraines and anxiety.
timeline- 3/18: felt normal when i woke up. by 6 pm i was in the ER with sepsis. stomach cramps level 10 pain, diarrhea, fever, low bp, HR was over 150!! diagnosed with salmonella after 2 days. after several severe antibiotic reactions, ended up on cipro which seemed to work. i remember my doctor saying he tested for which antibiotic would work.
3/22: discharged with 5 more days of cipro
4/18: back in the ER with the same symptoms but worse. except vitals were ok. ct scan showed same amount of colitis and conclusion was the first round of cipro didn’t kill the salmonella so i was given another 10 day supply.
now it’s 5/13 and the symptoms are back. is it possible i still have salmonella after 20 total days of cipro? could it have given me IBD or IBS? can it cause secondary illnesses or issues? or is this typical for a gut microbiome that’s decimated?
i don’t know what to do. it’s going on 2 months of debilitating illness that just will not subside. please help. should i see an infectious disease dr? or gi dr? or back to the ER?
i have terrible health insurance (medi-cal, if anyones familiar), so getting quality care is hard and i have to know what to advocate for.
please help!
thanks everyone.

2024.05.14 02:08 Recent_Bee_5510 is my significant other pregnant?

this will be very blunt so apologies in advance
i'm 16M, my partner is almost 16 and female they are 5'6 and about 135-140 pounds they are 25% mexican and white besides that they use edibles on occasion, the last time being may 11 and the time before that being may 2
extremely irresponsibly, i'm aware, before i bought condoms, we would occasionally have sex for a very short period of time with no protection. i would always pull out before i came close to finishing. the last time we did this was april 23
their last period was april 10 (which was actually very late for them, usually it's around the 20s of the month) and i'm fairly certain that was because of extreme stress as they're very stressed a lot of the time
anyways, their period has still not come and they're experiencing very painful upper stomach and abdomen pain. this pain is constant. it started may 11 around 2pm and has been constant since then
they are also experiencing occasional nausea, specifically when they stand up. on top of this, they have insomnia and took sleeping pills to sleep earlier today.
it's also relevant that they have diagnosed anxiety and depression and recently-ish came off lexapro. they experienced withdrawl around the week of april 16, but have since had no issues with it
and possibly relevant is that they are lactose intolerant and had 2 slices of pizza (with lactaid) on may 11 shortly before the pain.
i'm obviously extremely worried for their wellbeing and they are seeing a doctor as soon as they can make an appointment, but both of us are rather worried that they may be pregnant.
please give your input, thank you in advance :)

I am 30 wks with di/di twins and I noticed over the last 2 days that my stomach has dropped low. I have been having lower stomach stretching and slight pain. I’ve also noticed more tightening in my stomach but nothing super regular yet.
I’m nervous because my belly didn’t drop with my singleton until 38 wks and I had him at 39 wks.

2024.05.14 01:55 little_mattie Period cramps

Hi yall! I was wondering if anyone had advice on wtf to do for period cramps. I literally have to skip school 1-2 times a month for it because i literally cannot function properly at school. My stomach hurts so bad I can barely move sometimes. I’ve tried sitting in warm-hot water. Various over the counter pain pills. Heating pads. But absolutely nothing works and I’m tired of being behind on school because of this. Does anyone have any advice???

2024.05.14 01:55 Big-Bodybuilder-3866 Recruiters told me to lie about my health records. Supposed to swear in tomorrow and having second thoughts.

Ive broken 8 bones, had 3 stds (clean and done now), concussion, asthma as a kid, and i had bronchitis a few years ago. There was absolutely nothing on my medical record from Genesis except an incident from as a baby when i had an allergic reaction to a medicine, which was hives. They told me dont ask questions or tell anything about myself. And say "no sir" if they asked if I've broken any bones.
After reading some horror stories about people getting kicked out of the military for this same thing, im having a small anxiety attack. I feel like Genesis will pick up the records when I have to go go the doctors again in the military, or something like that. Theres just no way these incidents can be just gone. Ive been to the hospital over a dozen times in the past 10 years, probably more that I just can't even remember. Although im healthy, i exercise, and have a labor job I know that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
Some military guys I know IRL said to block their numbers and ghost them. Is that a pussy move? I feel it is. I had to get morale waivers for drug possession charges which was a pain for the recruiters to do so. Idk though. I just need some advice.

2024.05.14 01:52 Similar-String-2004 Pain

Does anyone else experience significant pain when something happens that 100% should cause a lot of pain?
A few weeks ago a tree branch knocked me on my ass, got me 14 stitches to my chin, 6 broken teeth, 4 loose teeth, multipule bruises and 4 fractures all in my face and I hardly felt pain. I still don't really feel pain. I never took the pain killers they prescribed me.
When I was 7 I had my appendix burst and I remember having a really bad stomach ache but never being in the kind of pain I should have been.
Is this just me or does this happen to you guys too?

2024.05.14 01:50 OptimalMacaroon4877 Need some advice 💔

Hi, I'm a guy and I'm 16 years old. 2 and a half months ago my girlfriend of 10 months broke up with Me and I was heartbroken. For a while I just tried to distract myself from the hurt of the whole situation, and it didn't help at all. I then told myself that I was gonna work on myself for the next 3 months and that I would have a second chance at getting her back during summer( I know it sounds stupid). After that the pain stopped, I missed her but not to the point where it hurt. Knowing I was gonna have a second chance numbed the hurt of the whole thing. Well summer is in a month and I've been improving myself and everything for the past month or two but recently I discovered that there is a chance that she is talking to someone new. That sinking feeling hit my stomach again and now I'm overthinking about everything and really just need a bit of advice. I feel like a idiot doing all of this and feeling this way for a girl. I feel like i should maybe keep at what I'm doing and see what comes of things when summer rolls around and go from there.Any kind of advice would be great, Thanks 🙏🏻

2024.05.14 01:44 b3rr_ie Questions

Hey! I feel like ive suspected to have endo for a while but im scared to talk to my mom about it. i am quite the hypochondriac at times but i genuinely dont think this is one of my crazy hypochondriac moments.
Tw for me talking about poo lol
Ive had painful periods since they started at 11. I have morning sickness constantly when im on my period. My period only lasts 3-4 days but every day is like excruciating pain to the point where i cant move, shake, faint, or vomit from the pain. My hips are constantly in pain, doctors suspect also ovarian cysts. My stomach is always terribly bloated during periods plus stomach pain separate from cramps. Im always constipated or just have terrible shits during periods and it just HURTS to do so. also i feel like i have utis every time on my period. like it hurts so bad to pee or poo. Not to mention the fatigue?!?! i feel like i can sleep 14 hours and still be tired on my period, and also all my physical strength goes away, probably due to the pain i am in. I feel so terrible always on my period and genuinley i am starting to feel like somethings super wrong despite my mom thinking im dramatic.
im open to any opinions or ideas 😭 also im 17 so i can go to the doctor on my own in a few months once im 18 👍

2024.05.14 01:43 ApprehensiveBobcat24 Sudden Pain in Lower Left Abdomen - Is It Gastritis?

Hey all. Been having regular pains in my lower left abdomen area for about a month and a half now and not entirely sure why. I've been browsing the forums of various gut diseases on reddit, and figured I'd post on one to see what you all think.
32M, 6'0', 185 pounds. Non-smoker, casual drinker. Run 1-3 times a week. No regular medications or big surgeries in my past. I drink at least 3-4L water a day.
Other symptoms include:
-lots of gas, mostly burping but a little more farting too
-occasional sharp pains higher up on my left side at the chest area, but not as frequent as the abdomen pains
-Pain flares up more often when I'm sitting down, or lying on my right side in bed. Have resorted to lying flat on my belly in order to not experience pain in bed at night.
-unclear how much diet affects it. I had quite a few beers on Saturday and was in more intense pain throughout the night. However, I've had soda and 2-3 beers at one time before and it didn't seem to affect my pain.
I do have one theory as to what happened. Around the same time these symptoms started, I had started using Crest whitening strips on my teeth for about 30 minutes a day. I suspect I was accidentally swallowing a ton of the bleach in those things, since I produce a lot of saliva. I used them for about 3-4 days before I realized there might be a connection and I haven't used them since. However, the symptoms continued.
Went to a primary care doctor, who was doubtful of the strips being the cause. He pressed on my stomach but I felt no pain there. Blood work says liver, kidney, and thyroid are all clear. Doctor suggested it might be diverticulosis based on my description of my symptoms.
Also strange, but good, is my urine and stool samples are unaffected. I'm having no problems there. I do have quite an active bladder and have to go to the bathroom quite a bit, but that's been going on for years. The lack of any other symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, etc., makes me think it's not an actual condition and just trapped gas.
Any ideas or next steps? Could the strips really do that much damage to my insides, or am I crazy?
I understand changing my diet may solve these issues, but I'd like to confirm that I have to do that and see if there are medications I can take to even avoid doing that. What's really strange is how sudden these symptoms came on, which makes me think the strips are part of the problem, but maybe my gut just finally said enough's enough.
I have a follow-up with my primary care doctor in a few days.

2024.05.14 01:43 Probablyneed-help Any advice??

For starters I’m a 20 year old female. My husband and I will be married for 3 years in June, and we have been trying for 2 years now. I have always had irregular, heavy flow, very painful periods and had tried every birth control option minus implant and IUD up until 2021, I had an IUD specifically Mirena placed in January 2021 as at the time my now husband and I were in the process of moving and I was planning on college. I have diagnosed chronic stomach pain and chronic malnutrition, neither of which have been diagnosed to an actual issue causing either problem and I have been to doctors across the US. I got my IUD removed in beginning of March 2022 and we started trying at the end of March, after my IUD was removed my periods were much lighter and only lasted 3 days up until August 2022 when I as well started experiencing symptoms of hyperprolactinemia(no test were done until November of 2023.) We ended up conceiving mid December of 2022, although it ended in March of 2023 due to a miscarriage and D&C after 2 weeks of no life and no signs of body naturally starting process. I ended up making the decision to change OB’s after the miscarriage and months of missed periods but my at the time OB not wanting to do any test or really caring honestly. In November 2023 I first had testing for ovulation and prolactin, ovulation had been sometimes happening but not always and prolactin levels were at a 92.3 ng/mL, OB sent me in for a MRI and referred me to Endocrinology, MRI showed a benign prolactoma not exceeding 3cm, and as of April 2024 thyroid and prolactin were evaluated; everything besides prolactin were of normal levels but prolactin did drop at a 64 ng/mL and endo is releasing me and not suggesting medication or surgery at this current time. Has anyone had any success at conceiving with untreated hyperprolactinemia, or is there anything I can do to assist? (Husband has been checked out with a clean bill of health no concerns on his end, as well as no family issues on my side with fertility or elevated prolactin) Any advice or anyone to just talk to it seems like everyone else is able to conceive no issues and some days it gets really hard when no one understands how much it makes me hurt and feel so bad..

Does anyone else feel like they are so constantly bloated and that’s adding to the vomiting? It’s like half the time I feel nauseous and the other half my stomach is so bloated it makes me vomit as well. Anything that you’ve done to help? Even small meals doesn’t work. Even when my stomach is empty from not being able to keep anything down, it’s still bloated and painful. I’m only 9 and a half weeks and I’m on Reglan and Zofran. I had HG with my first pregnancy but this time around it’s definitely more intense.

2024.05.14 01:29 uwhy Does anyone here have trouble farting as well? (bonus tip on how I debloated/burped today)

So I often get the deadly combo- I cannot burp (I'm one of you people), and no farts come out, resulting in extreme bloating, discomfort, even pain. No matter how much I push or relax, farts are trapped inside, to the point where I'm gagging involuntarily (but no burp or air vomit). Pooping doesn't help either. Does anyone have any tips on how to fart easily?
Today I had the worst case of bloating in a bit. Tried everything and nothing helped. Air vomit was my last resort because that makes me uncomfortable. So I did the "side neck sit ups" exercise exactly as demonstrated in this video: https://youtu.be/DDZ8zMZHUuA
(The next part might sound gross but we're probably all okay with it right?)
After 13 reps lying on the right side, initially it felt like I was going to throw up (had a meal 30 mins earlier). I sat straight, and felt something come up. Took the risk and opened my throat (like you would in order to vomit), and all that came out was air, though it didn't make a burp-like sound. But it worked. And then came another, and another, and another (a total of 6), but the final one felt like it brought up a bit of stomach stuff with it so I stopped. But felt instantly better afterwards.
Might try it again in dire circumstances. But I'd much rather fart, and suggestions for inducing that would be very helpful. Additionally, what can I do to find out why is it so hard for me to fart?

2024.05.14 01:12 Jules198325 Continuous yaz

I am on a continuous dose of yaz birth control until I have a hysterectomy in September. Been on it since November of 2023. I am 40 yes old and usually have very heavy periods and started having severe stomach pain randomly which prompted the bc and I have not had a period since I started it. Refilled my script a couple months ago where I get like 4 packs at once. I'm on my 2nd week of the 2nd pack started a period. Not as bad as usual but I'm on day 4 of it. Can bc be bad or fake??? I am in michigan and got it from walgreens. I've checked the med name and everything looks the same. I've contacted my doc still waiting to hear back. My tubes are tied so no worries of pregnancy more so worried about what am I taking if it's not birth control?!?!

2024.05.14 01:04 Substantial-Life-183 So many questions but no answers

My dad passed away on May 3 2024 from cancer. 11 months of fighting for his life chemo radiation it just wasn’t working it spread through his whole body. On Good Friday he got dizzy and my mom rushed him to the hospital they did a scan of his head and found he had two tumour one at base of the skull and one above his eyes that was bleeding the doctors gave him 72 hours to live. I felt so lost knowing the end is near. I took a week off work and spent 8 hrs day at the hospital with him. Over the next few weeks I could see the pain in his eyes but he would never say anything he would still crack jokes with the nurses would make me smile. A week before he passed he was moved to hospice. I got the call Friday the found him non responsive and got a call I heart sunk to bottom of my stomach. My whole family rushed to hospice which was a city over for me. My whole family made it and at 12:15 pm my dad passed away. There’s no way to describe it. There’s like now an empty ness inside so many years I thought I would have now gone.

2024.05.14 01:02 AppropriateArticle40 My therapist diagnosed me with Hypochondriasis and I’m spiraling

I’ve been experiencing a ton of different symptoms for a while, for over two years I’ve had a lot of gastrointestinal distress like constipation and diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, gas and gas pains, nausea, etc. For the past year or so I’ve started to feel really run down and sick, like I have the flu or something. I’m always fatigued and resting doesn’t help, I have muscle pain all the time especially in my back and jaw, aching and cramps in my legs and arms, I’m always overheated and sweating, I get unexplained skin issues like rashes and redness, my lymph nodes feel sore and sometimes swollen, I have tachycardia. Just generally I usually do not feel physically well.
I’ve been seeing a new therapist for probably about a month. I’ve been talking to her about how my health issues have been affecting me and how tiring it can be to deal with doctors and how being fatigued and in pain 24/7 makes it really difficult to go about my regular life. I just checked the billing paperwork from my last session and realized she diagnosed me with Hypochondriasis. And I’m kind of spinning out now, like is she right, am I just making all of this up, what if I’m just crazy and paranoid and delusional??
It’s just that I never used to feel like this, like obviously I’d be tired sometimes and get headaches or stomachaches occasionally like a normal person, but I felt overall physically well. But now I feel like I’m sick or in pain a lot of the time, my muscles and joints are always intensely hurting and aching, I’m constantly having painful GI episodes that derail my plans and I’m stuck on the toilet feeling like I’m going to pass out, and the fatigue is not just tiredness, no amount of rest helps. I just mean that I didn’t used to feel like this, this isn’t my “normal”, my daily life is being disrupted because I don’t feel well.
But based on the diagnosis of hypochondriasis, it says you have a lot of symptoms but tests come back normal, which my blood tests haven’t shown any glaring issues so I guess that means it’s psychosomatic? And there are some symptoms of the disorder, like thinking and researching about your health and seeking out different doctors and tests, that I also have, because I have symptoms that are impacting my life and I want to figure out how I can feel better.
The diagnosis of hypochondriasis also says that you get anxious about minor symptoms like fatigue. But my fatigue is not a minor symptom, when I say fatigue I don’t mean tiredness or sleepiness, it’s like this constant heavy weight on me, it impacts my daily life because I feel too tired to do normal activities like school and work, and I can’t get through the day without sleeping, and even then I never feel rested. I feel so shitty thinking that my chronic fatigue is considered a minor symptom and I’m blowing it out of proportion due to hypochondriasis.
I’m honestly freaking out, my therapist putting that diagnosis on my chart makes me feel like I’m just insane and I’m questioning everything, I don’t know what to do or think. I keep getting told this is all in my head
