Hello, I recently got my foot in the world of pharmacy technician. I want to see if it is worth it to go to school to become a pharmacist with loan debts or will I dig my own grave going this route?

Recently, I missed the application deadline for my four-year college, soo.. it's given me an opportunity to focus on completing prerequisite courses. I have until summer to wrap those up, but I'm considering enrolling in a Certificate program in either radiology or Sterile Processing Tech. Which path would you recommend? Additionally, if I pursue radiology, there are two certifications available. Which one holds more value? Hi Iā€™ve been a pharmacy technician going on 3 years now, ever year before Iā€™ve paid ($40-$60) on ce classes to renew my license. My boss gives me a list of ā€œfree ceā€ every year but every time I go to the websites I either canā€™t find the free ones or the credit only counts for a pharmacist. I really donā€™t want to pay again this year, especially if there are free ones out there. Iā€™ve gotten 4 hours done with the accounts I had last year for (RXCE) and (PharmCon)
Web sites my boss gave me for reference

2024.04.28 21:02 apizzamx my q&a answers (please help)

how old are you? whatā€™s your gender? give us a general description of yourself.
I am 24. I am a woman. I am single, lesbian and currently rewatching YellowJackets.
is there a medical diagnosis that impacts you mentally?
i have CPTSD and am autistic. i also have fibromyalgia which impacts energy levels.
describe your upbringing. did you have religious structuring and how did you react to it?
abusive childhood. i was forced to go to church, i believed for a while until it got intense and i rebelled against everything. i didnā€™t have many friends, and even less ā€˜goodā€™ friends (thatā€™s thankfully changed).
what do you do as a job? do you like it? why or why not.
I work in a pharmacy putting peoples meds through and dispensing items and giving them over to the patients. I like it because itā€™s interesting, I love learning about meds. I donā€™t like the stress and clique-ness of the staff there sometimes.
if you had to spend an entire weekend alone how would you feel? would you feel lonely or refreshed?
iā€™d feel fine but i do get lonely. i would feel really refreshed especially if i got to just stay in bed all day lol.
what is your relation with movement and your surroundings? do you like sport or outdoor activities? why? what other activities do you engage in?
i like martial arts and yoga. i donā€™t like being outside as it can be too overwhelming. i write, draw and journal. I play a lot of animal crossing.
how curious are you? do you have more ideas than you execute? what are your curiosities about? are they environmental or conceptual?
iā€™d say im 50% curious. I find some things REALLY interesting and will research for hours and days, but itā€™s hard to find those interests. they are definitely more conceptual, i have a big fascination with therapy / psychology (i studied it in college).
would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? do you think youā€™d be good at it? what would your leadership style be like?
i do not, though i do when nothing seems to be getting done. i am quite blunt and authoritative probably - efficiency and accuracy is most important to me. I donā€™t want to be gently guiding people, because, Iā€™d assume they are as competent as I am and so should be able to do what needs to be done.
are you coordinated? why do you feel you are/not? do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? describe your activity.
I like working with my hands, but that might be an autism thing. I like figuring out physical puzzles / fixing things. But overall I am not very coordinated - i canā€™t even count the amount of bruises i have from falling and bumping into things.
are you artistic? if yes, describe your art. explain your answer.
relatively. my art is usually self expression based. i havenā€™t done any in many many months.
whatā€™s your opinions on the past, present and future? how do you deal with them?
past - it haunts me lol. but whatā€™s done is done and i canā€™t worry it into change. present - we are certainly in it. i will do what i can to make it comfortable. future - i have extremely loose plans for it, i know what i want but i donā€™t know how to get there & it stresses me out.
how do you act when others request your help? if youā€™d decide to help them, why?
i pretty much always help them, because it is the right thing to do. if i am physically or mentally able to do something for someone, why wouldnā€™t i?
do you need logical consistency in your life?
yes. i donā€™t like change
how important is efficiency and productivity to you?
itā€™s important, as i stated before. I want things to be sorted now rather than later.
do you control others, directly or indirectly? how and why do you do that?
ā€¦ i guess i sometimes try. i offer suggestions, and if they take them up its great and if not i get frustrated and confused. i donā€™t see how they cant see the logic behind my answers. i do it to save them from pain or wasting time/money/resources.
what are your hobbies? why do you like them?
atm chess, i like it because it makes me think about something thats not my sad thoughts. i like watching crime shows, surrealist shows etc. something to get me thinking of Anything Else. I listen to a LOT of music and spend a lot of time thinking about fashion and aesthetics.
what is your learning style? what learning styles do you thrive in and which ones are difficult for you?
i need to incorporate pretty much all styles to really process things. visual & manual learning is probably the easiest for me, and verbal instructions etc are the hardest.
how good are you at strategising? do you plan things or wing them?
wing them, usually. i do little plans but they always get ruined so i donā€™t like to get my hopes up. i know what i want and i push towards that in a very straight line, despite distractions.
whatā€™s important to you and why?
not being a burden on others. i want to be self sufficient more than anything. my friends wellbeing(s) are really important to me too.
what are your aspirations?
I want to succeed in my career, I want to progress and become a pharmacy technician. I want to be able to drive. I want to move away from the small village to a slightly bigger town / small city.
what are your fears? what makes you uncomfortable? what do you hate? why?
i hate being misunderstood that id say its a fear of mine. other than that, i am scared of not being able to care for myself & having to rely on others etc.
what do the highs in your life look like?
moving to my own place (with my friend), getting the qualification to progress at work, the progress i am making in therapy, being more honest with myself and others.
what do the lows in your life look like?
when my mind is whirring too much and i lose a sense of who i am.
how attached are you to reality? do you daydream often? if you daydream, are you aware of your surroundings?
i donā€™t daydream too much. i have internal discussions / chats with people lol, but i am pretty much always aware of my surroundings. as long as i am awake i am extremely aware of my physical body.
imagine you are alone in a blank empty room, there is nothing to do and no one to talk to. what do you think about?
iā€™d probably have one of the internal chats, usually with my therapist or a close friend. sometimes ill imagine telling people things i would never irl. i guess if i was alone in that room thatā€™s what i would resort to doing (while flapping my arms around and playing with my hair for some sensory stimulation)
how long does it take you to make an important decision? do you ever change your mind once youā€™ve decided?
i make it really fast, usually. i donā€™t like to feel stressed with a decision so i go for an option as quickly as possible. i do change my mind and i am not afraid to say that. i have cancelled things i booked. i have regrets about things i have gone through with etc.
how long do you take to process your emotions? how important are emotions in your life?
i take a very very very long time to process my emotions. they kind of rule over certain parts of my life in ways i canā€™t comprehend. they ā€˜ruinā€™ things a lot.
do you ever catch yourself agreeing with someone just to appease them? how often? why?
yeah sometimes. usually because i canā€™t be bothered to argue, especially if i think they are not going to understand my pov. this is fairly rare, usually id disagree or just ignore what had been said.
do you break the rules often? do you think authority should be challenged? if you do break rules, why do you?
sure, on occasion. and yes authority should definitely be challenged because a lot of the time itā€™s just a bunch of egomaniacs playing barbaric games with the rest of us. i break rules because i donā€™t agree with them and think they are ridiculous or dumb.
what is the ideal life, in your opinion ?
The ideal life would be one where I can push myself mentally and physically but with a lot of time to take breaks when i need to. i want to be left alone but also supported. really i just want life to be gentle and quiet with room for exploration and fun.

2024.04.28 20:53 Curious-Space-457 Perfume wear in the pharmacy?

In retail setting, is wearing perfume generally not acceptable? (Hospital is no no cuz sterile compounding) I vaguely remember that someone said some patients can be sensitive to scent, so health care providers should not wear perfume.
But over the past I have noticed some technicians I work with in different stores wear them.
Considering how cramped the pharmacy usually is, is wearing perfume a bad idea?
I am not a big perfume guy but I am just curious cuz now I can only wear perfume on days off.

2024.04.28 08:44 OkPharmD Independent pharmacy offer PLEASE HELP

Hello, I've been offered a position as the Pharmacist-in-Charge at a new independent pharmacy opening near Standish, Michigan. I'll be the sole pharmacist, overseeing both retail and long-term care aspects with support from technicians. The initial offer of $50 per hour as a 1099 contractor seemed low, prompting the investopharmacist to invite me to submit a counteroffer. Given my new graduate status and licensure, I'm seeking advice on a reasonable rate to propose, along with terms for profit sharing after a six-month review. Considering the location, the unique circumstances of the pharmacy's opening, and the potential for growth, what would be a fair hourly rate and percentage for profit sharing? Additionally, what key terms should I include in my negotiation? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Please keep in mind 1. Itā€™s in a medical facility ( investor said on day one it will be busy) 2. It was previously a but owners had a fall out between building owner 3. 1.5 hr in distance from home

2024.04.28 08:25 Pink_cowprint Pharmacy pay differential

Hey all, so Iā€™ve been hearing conflicting things and just want to know what the deal is. I was told there was a pay differential (increase) when working in pharmacy, is that true? One of my coworkers and my SM told me that ā€œtheyā€ pay you more when you work in the pharmacy, kinda vague. However, Iā€™ve seen no difference on my paychecks from working in pharmacy vs front of store. One of the technicians I work with said sheā€™s never heard of a pay difference before. Is there a difference in pay? If so, do you have to have your technician in training license from the state in order to qualify, or do you have to have a full technicianā€™s license?

2024.04.28 07:38 surrealfrfr123 Not sure what the best resume is for me (advice please)

Iā€™m a 24 year old, with scattered work history (job hopping, lots of gaps) worked at my first company (supermarket chain for 1 year and 9 months but I started that in 2017, while back now). Worked at a gas station for 3 months, first learned how to handle cash there. 1 month at FedEx as a package handler. On and off as an independent contractor working gigs on Jobble and Wonolo (apps you can get on your smartphone). Worked at home goods for two months and then quit last year, just walked out and never showed up (did the same at FedEx and a couple of other jobs).
Finally Iā€™ve sort of got it together, worked at CVS (front store, not pharmacy), since last August (so Iā€™ve worked there for 8 months now) and became a supervisor (not store manager) after working for 2-3 months there. Got keys to close the store.
Also I went to school for HVAC to become an HVAC technician, have a diploma paper from there and EPA Universal license (can hand now refrigerates) but I havenā€™t worked in the field yet, and not sure if I will. I never went to college, graduated high school in 2019. Have considered community college (can take a program thatā€™s like only 6 weeks long at mine near me and get CompTIA+ certification) and online courses in skills like Microsoft office. Iā€™m fluent in English. I can articulate myself well but always mess up interviews. And also, any interview advice might be helpful too, I interviewed at the local union (trying to become a refrigeration technician) but definitely messed up, I often mess up interviews by being clearly nervous and not presenting myself in the best light necessarily. So, should I just put the supervisor job Iā€™ve worked on my resume? Put other jobs but pretend thereā€™s no gaps in my work history? Advice and templates much appreciated.

2024.04.28 04:59 boredomstrikes318 At my wits end.

Fellow techs, I'm in dire need of some advice. Being a pharmacy technician is killing my soul. I've tried both retail and hospital and they both feel the same. I'm currently in an inpatient hospital setting and the environment is so toxic. Don't get me wrong, the work is rewarding because I know that I am helping patients get the treatment that they need, but I just can't do it anymore because it is mentally and physically draining. It's also starting to cause various health problems due to all the stress.
So with that being said, the point of this post is to ask if there are any other avenues or pharmacy settings that I have a chance of getting into? I have my CPhT and I really don't want to waste all the time and energy that I put into getting this certification. I feel stuck with no way out because I obviously need to make money but I'm not sure of what else to do in order to do so. This just isn't going to work for me anymore.
Does anyone else feel the same? Is there any hope? Either way, thanks for listening.

2024.04.28 04:25 chailattebabe 32 [F4M] Pennsylvania - late night chat, anyone?

Hey there, pic of me here
Iā€™m looking for someone to talk to every day, someone who craves connection just as much as I do. Note that I would like to text but voice chatting is nice too.
Iā€™m employed full time as a retail manager. In the past, Iā€™ve taught elementary school and been a pharmacy technician. Iā€™ve had several jobs in retail before the one I have now. I can actually count on two hands how many jobs Iā€™ve had!
Most of my free time is spent livestreaming on Plenty of Fish and talking to friends. My biggest hobby is makeup and skincare. I used to have a huge collection of it but I recently went through a purge so I am starting over but it has been fun to have a fresh start!
Iā€™m also into video games. Iā€™m going to get back into playing Disney Dreamlight Valley on my Nintendo Switch because thereā€™s a new update for it. Iā€™m still in the process of playing PokĆ©mon Violet. I also collect the cards, play the card game online, play PokĆ©mon Go, and watch the anime from time to time.
Another hobby of mine is Duolingo. I took four years of Spanish in high school but I lost some of it from not using it very often. If you speak Spanish or are also learning, it would be fun to practice with each other!
Itā€™s important for me to note that I recently made the switch to sobriety for my own health. I still enjoy going out from time to time, I just choose not to drink. I donā€™t mind if you drink, however.
In the near future (within the next 2-3 years) I would like to settle down and start a family. Iā€™ve always wanted kids, Iā€™ve just never been able to find the right person to have them with.
Please only message me if you are serious about talking. Send a photo with your message, I tend to overlook the many plain ā€œheyā€ and ā€œwhatā€™s upā€ messages. I look forward to meeting you!

2024.04.28 00:04 Gullible_Ad441 [M4f]: M 21 wishing for a F on my birthday

Hey there, today's my 21st birthday and I figure, what's a better birthday wish than to be in a new relationship.
I'm 6'1 with natural red hair, blue eyes, and I have a few extra pounds, but I'm working on getting back into shape. My zodiac is the stubborn Taurus.
I work as a pharmacy technician while I take classes at community college. In my free time I play video games, which can range from big story games like Persona 5 and Final Fantasy 15 to simple, chill games like Stardew Valley and House Flipper. I also love to cook, whether that be for me or someone else (you). Since I'm just cooking for me right now though, my repertoire isn't too fancy, mostly just soups and chili.
I don't really have a preference when it comes to personality, but I do tend to be more attracted to "cool" girls instead of "cute" girls. I'm a hopeless romantic with a lot of love in my heart and you'll probably get tired of being complimented all the time real quick. That's how I show my love though, letting you never forget that you're the perfect girl.
Can't wait to hear from you!

2024.04.27 23:24 fortyfivepointseven New to Nail Painting?

Welcome to Malepolish.
If you're here, you're probably aware that for men & males to paint our nails means breaking - or at least toying with - the gender norms. Our friends, family, work, education, or own internal anxiety, can be a lot to cope with.
We think that self-expression is important, and nail polish should be for anyone who wants to use it. There are users of this subreddit who are ace, aro, bi, gay, pan and straight. There are users of this subreddit who have never been anything but men, live as men, and will (eventually) die as men. There are also users who are transmasculine, and users who are - or are considering becoming - transfeminine and non-binary. Whilst this subreddit is a predominantly men's space, we also recognise that there are cis women who feel at home here. Everyone listed above is welcome, and if you want to try out nail polish, we're here to help.
This post is to help you get past that and express yourself the way you want.

Buying Nail Polish

Most places with a beauty aisle will sell nail polish. Depending on your context this may be a pharmacy, supermarket, cosmetics shop or somewhere else.
You are quite likely to be able to buy polish without question in most shops: in the worst case scenarios shop staff are likely to assume you're buying it for a friend or partner. That said, if you're nervous, feel free to make a post asking what the norms are in your area.
For your first purchase, if you're unsure what to buy, buy a clear base coat/top coat, as well as a colour coat if you're interested.
Each pot of nail polish usually doesn't cost too much, about the same as a sandwich, or a meal at a fast food chain.

Your First Paint

There are lots of guides on YouTube and other video sites on how to actually apply nail polish.
For your first paint, you might find it's hard to break through the strong social norms that apply to nail painting. Lots of people find it's easier to try out a clear layer before trying colour (base coat/top coat can be good here). Other people find it's easiest to try out an archetypically masculine colour, such as black. Some people will also try out a single nail rather than doing all of them.

Going to a Salon

Having your nails painted by a professional can be daunting. If you do, you might want to check ahead of time that the salon is happy to take clients who are men, although generally subreddit users haven't found this to be an issue in most contexts. If you do go for a salon, it's a good idea to take photos of what you're looking for, as the technician may have lots of fairly technical questions that - if you're new - you may not have answers ready for.

Safety Tips

For everyone:
  1. Based on our experiences on this subreddit, most people get more compliments than derogatory comments. However, if you are at bullied or made fun of, it can be tough to stay confident. Try to remain confident, but if it gets you down, you may need to find other ways to express yourself.
  2. You may have close relationships with others who object to your expression. It's uncommon, but not unheard of, for your significant other to object. If someone close to you is not on board, or flat out says no, evaluate your red lines and theirs. Communicate your needs and wants, and see if there is any compromise you are willing to come to?
For the kids and teens living at home:
  1. Are you in an environment where you are safe to polish your nails? We do not recommend polishing if you are going to get kicked out, disowned, unless you have a means to be on your own, by being financially stable and housed.
  2. If you are safe, then talk to your parents. Times are changing and gender expression is becoming more accepted. That understanding may be key to your parents being on board. We have seen a lot of parents thinking gender expression is tied to your orientation and gender identity, which we know from this subreddit simply isn't true. It may give reassurance to explain that polish is not gendered and is just fun for you.
  3. Be prepared for the fact that your peers may not be accepting, and have strategies in place to cope. Remember, being a teen isn't forever, and things are generally easier for adults.
Students living away from home:
  1. You have more freedom than living at home, but are you in a safe city/state/country to be able to break the gender barrier?
  2. If you live away from your parents, you have the option to take it off if you have to go home to unsupportive parents.
  3. If you are financially dependent on your parents, it is not worth putting your financial future on the line for a little paint.
Working adults:
  1. Check your HR policies: dress codes need to be followed. Depending on your contract (and workers rights in your jurisdiction), you may also be under obligations outside of the office.
  2. You may be protected under workers' rights or equality laws. Even if you are not trans, you may be protected under workers rights legislation that protects trans employees. Even if you are not a woman, gender protections in the workplace often apply regardless of gender. People in this subreddit might be able to advise on what legal protections you have, and how robust they are, in practice; even if you can't get advice here, it's likely we can refer you to places that can.
Self expression is important. You always have the support of this community. Best wishes, and enjoy your (new) hobby.
