Hello everyone! I am like maddd brand new here. I joined because my lovely girlfriend love going to des moines! We stay in cedar rapids, so getting out to the city is where we're thrive!
So We have want to go to a very nice steakhouse(we been to flemings 3 times nd loved it. We are big on steaks and they be HITTIN).
My thing is that we are also people who are open to new experiences. I did some lookin and seen there were other high ticket steakhouses there in Des moines.
I seen that ruth chris is in des moines now too. I heard that 801 is better than flemings, but I also heard tht 801 isn't worth it in comparison to flemings.
Heard johnny's is good, but 801 was better.
Heard ruth chris is not even close to worth it, but seen people say it's good.
As u can tell, we been hearing alot, but all of those tales were from either a year or 5+ years ago.
So we would like a up to date assessment ❤️❤️.
Which of these options(or others not listed) should we go for an anniversary dinner? We would like the best tasting steak possible. Price isn't a worry cus we aren't going to des moines til a couple months from now. So money will be saved up.

I received 2 USDA Prime Cowboy Ribeye steaks from SRF/Double R Ranch. About 34oz each. Before we go any further I prefer my steaks medium well. I'm not sure how to prepare such a huge thick steak without burning the outside to get the inside to desired temperature. Any help would be appreciated before I ruin an $85 steak. I have several ideas. I think I could possibly roast it a while beforehand before finishing on grill. I could pan sear it then roast it then take it to the grill. I prefer not a lot of seasoning. Just salt, pepper, finish as Ruth Chris would will some garlic butter.

Hi! Looking for recs for hidden gems. We tend to enjoy French good, Italian food (though I do expect homemade pasta if the price tag is high!). Steakhouses have been flops and as I’m pregnant, wine bars and sushi shops aren’t as appealing.
So far we’ve tried and liked -girasole -mambo italia in Sewickley -casbah -paris 66 -fig and ash -revival on Lincoln -wooden angel in beaver
Tried but didn’t like -the capital grille (felt overpriced for what it was) -Eddie Merlot’s (same) -ruths Chris steak house -grand concourse -lula in Sewickley -morcilla (Spanish food was not our vibe)

How do I choose??? How would you??
Consulted this sub about two weeks ago for advice, and once again seeking the wisdom of crowds.
First, to be clear, I am incredibly fortunate to be in the position I am, and complaining about having to make a decision here is sort of like whining about how I don’t know whether I want steak or lobster for dinner.
HOWEVER, I really am not sure how to decide between these schools (as COA is essentially equal within like $3k), and I kinda have to do so really soon….
Columbia – Really doesn’t have anything that the others lack outside of the name (but that matters how much? Not really…) and NYC. However, I reasoned that if I did want the adventure of da big Apple, I could get there after graduation. I’d also love to clerk as I’d be really interested in somehow breaking into appellate work, and it seems sort of murky as to how Columbia fares compared to UVA. Not for nothing, it’s the only school I have seen where people do complain about the environment, including a person on here who tells ppl not to go. But, the name and NYC is pretty damn appealing each time I think of it….
Penn – I am a lifelong Philadelphian and a former Penn undergrad. I love it here. My family is here. My friends are here. It’s an environment I’m more than used to and that I can control during what is sure to be a really stressful first year (I would literally not have to move from my cheap apartment). I’ve heard great / similar things about the atmosphere vis a vis UVA, and I have heard that Penn does a pretty damn good job of supporting the clerk-oriented students + getting into the DC market, to an extent. Additionally, its LRAP (TolRap) is fantastic should I decide I actually want that career route (or really, if I realize I’m not cut out for a few years of BL).
UVA – Visited Charlottesville, really loved the campus and thought the town was so cute + could be fun to explore (I love how lush the environment is and the ample opportunities to connect w nature in a way that Philly / NYC just doesn’t have). The collegiality is a huge selling point (I mean, softball!!!!) and I really do love the idea of hunkering down for three years with ppl whom I really respect and click with before heading out into our careers. As far as clerking is concerned, Ruth Payne. I love DC as a town, and UVA’s ability to place about as good as anyone in DC definitely matters if that’s the direction I want. On a more personal level, I would definitely grow more as a person – I’d be in a vastly different environment than I’m used to and would gain quite a bit of independence as opposed to staying in Philly. However, is law school the time to seek out personal growth? + I just worry that CVille would get stale for me eventually ….
Are there any misconceptions I have about these schools that may change my calculus? Does it seem clear that I really do have a preference and am just afraid of making a final decision? Appreciate everyone’s thoughts immensely as I really don’t have many ppl who could have an informed IRL discussion w me.

Today’s the day I finally realized; my once happy marriage was over. It’s been a great run of 21 almost 22 years. The kids left about a year ago to start their new lives with college being their first steps. I’ve known that my wife was having an affair with Jackson Clark for the past 4 months. I tried everything I could to bring her back to me but, this morning she said something that was the last nail placed into that coffin of our marriage. After our weekly love making morning with her mechanical sex she’s been giving me lately, she said she was going to her sister’s house next weekend. This was not unexpected, but I was holding out hope for her not to go and come back to me. But alas this was not the case, I knew all this by reading her texts and e-mails. This would be her and Jackson’s first weekend together. As the text to Jackson from my wife told him, “This will be 48 hours of bliss and shared love, without our spouses interrupting us. Yes, I knew, and so did his wife, I made her aware as soon as I found out nearly 4 months ago. I walked out of our bedroom after showering and dressing. I told her I had a few things to do at the office. She said, but it’s Saturday, I’m just now finishing up our lunch it will be ready in 5 minutes. I said without any emotion in my face or voice, sorry but this can’t wait. So, I turned and walked out the front door without saying love you or even looking back at her. I did have some things to do, that part was true. She knew as soon as I left, she felt as if something wasn’t right. She immediately texted Jackson, almost before I even reached my car.
As soon as I had gotten to the park, I texted Jacksons wife Anna. Park now if possible, then I waited for her response. 3 minutes later her response was” in 20.” This was our normal meeting place, so she knew the spot. I knew she was making up a cover story to Jackson right then to free herself to meet up with me. I took those twenty minutes to read the latest messages from my loving wife to Jackson and his responses. It was difficult to watch in real time the destruction of our 2 marriages and what the aftermath would cause us all. My wife texted Jackson; I think he knows something’s up, his reaction this morning after I told him about my sister’s wasn’t normal for him. Jackson’s response, did he say anything or was it you just felt something. My wife replied, both he seemed cold to the idea of my weekend with my sister, but then he came up with he needed to go to the office. He has never gone to the office on a Saturday ever before, something’s wrong. Jackson replied, you may just be paranoid and looking too far into his reactions. Just give it a few days, we’ll keep our plans, if you feel something is still wrong later in the week, we can just cancel our plans. My wife’s response was okay, I’ll watch him and see. How did your wife take your request for a weekend fishing trip with your school buddies. Oh, you know her, she believes everything I tell her. She was okay with it. There were love emojis and love you’s as their texting ended.
I met Anna about 30 minutes later, there were no more tears over this mess. We both resigned ourselves to the bitter truth a couple months ago. I showed her the latest texts from our spouses, and we set our plans into motion. We both knew it was time for this farce to end. Neither of us could spend any more of our lives like this. I knew at that moment, right after I read my wife’s recent text, I had almost blown our plans. I would have to be very careful with this next week and give her guilt a small reprieve. Me and Anna went over our plans again, not to miss something and reveal our knowledge of their affair. This was in no way to retrieve our lost spouses, hell we didn’t want them back after all we had learned. How did I find out, well it was at the fourth of July party at Jackson and Anna’s home. I saw my wife and Jackson head into the house, I followed. They went into the master bedroom; I stood outside the door and listened to them. They were kissing from the sounds of it and making plans for the following week at motel six. Jackson said he had already booked the room and it was all set. Thursday 3pm room 212. My wife just through our marriage and her family away for a romp in the sack with Jackson. Who knew if this had already happened and this was really, only the next meeting, I had to make sure, so I was in a rental car in motel 6 parking lot. That Thursday they arrived in separate cars but at the same time. I took a video as they checked in and walked into room 212. I waited and about 90 minutes later they emerged. My wife’s hair was still damp, and Jackson had the biggest smirk on his face. All I could do was yell out slut, while I sat in my rental. I must have been a bit too loud as they both turned to look in my direction. I ducked down to escape their peering eyes. They both moved on with a gentle kiss, as they got into their cars and drove away. I immediately called Anna to meet. She was stunned to receive a call from me, as it has always been my wife that calls her. After a few pleasantries, I asked to meet her anywhere and anytime. But soon, I explained it was extremely important. This drew her attention, she agreed to meet at the park, I suggested the bleachers of the ball field, she agreed to meet in an hour.
I used that time sitting in the parking lot feeling like my life was now over, wondering how and what just happened. When I saw her car, I started making my way to the bleachers while pacing her so we both would arrive at the same time. She looked at me and asked what’s with this secretive meeting, I looked at her and just then, the tears just let go, along with my other emotions. This was the first person I had seen since the motel. I didn’t even realize I had been holding back all my emotions. But seeing her, my friend, and thinking about the pain she’s going to experience. The pain, oh the pain that I was already feeling. I tried to speak, but the first word wouldn’t come out of me, just a series of quick gasps of air between the tears. I held out my phone with my shaking hand and all, showed her the video from the motel. She screamed out, pushed the phone away and burst into tears. There we were, two people in our late 40’s sitting on the bleachers crying like babies into the open sky. This was the longest 20 minutes of our lives, we both admitted later.
After about 20 minutes we both tried to compose ourselves enough to talk. I explained what I had learned and what I had witnessed at the motel. Stopping to let out some pain with sobs and small gasps of air, as I spoke. Anna just kept sobbing in small bursts. She looked into my red, inflamed, sorrowful eyes and asked, “so what are you going to do. I said I have almost 22 years invested I’m going to try and save my life with her. You I asked, Anna replied, the same but only because I have a 17-year-old son that will be leaving for college next year. I understood as my kids were already on their new paths. So, for the last 3 months me and Anna have tried everything to keep the two of them apart and win their love back. But much to our regret they still managed lunches, afternoon delights on occasion, and even a dinner while I was out of town visiting my daughter. Anna and I even went as far as to double date with them, hoping they could see all the harm they were creating. Nope, that didn’t even work, all it did was give them more time to glance into each other’s eyes and flirt. They apparently didn’t even realize what they were doing or how they were acting. But me and Anna noticed and took notes and compared them the next day. This was our lives, watching and waiting for the next 3 months. We didn’t want them back because they had to, but because the affair had run its course, and they wanted us. Both of us went to the lawyer’s office on the same day. We were relieved as the same attorney took on both cases giving us a very nice discount. We gave him all the texts and videos from the past 3 months and asked him to prepare the divorce papers. I went to my bank, first I paid off the mortgage, the kid’s schoolings and all our credit cards. Then I set up a cancelation for all the cards the Monday following her weekend getaway. I then got a new card for myself. At work I pulled my 401k as I was fully invested and ate the penalties, but it had to be done. I put it into our savings account and then split it all in half, putting my half into a separate account. All our finances have now been severed. Anna followed my lead and had much the same results except for the son that was still living at home. There are still things needing to be decided on, along with custody on her side.
Well, that following week was a normal week, I did all the same things I have always done, Flowers delivered every Monday morning to her desk. I have been doing this for about 10 years. It makes her feel special when all the other girls mention them to her. As she puts it, it brightens up her day and the rest of her week. I didn’t want her to suspect anything, not yet anyway. Normal dinners, lite discussions, TV, sleep, sex was reserved for Saturday mornings so that wasn’t an issue. Normal week, but behind the scenes everything was falling into place. We knew where they would be, when they would be there and for how long. That’s all we needed to move onto the finality of our plan. Friday early evening my wife left for her trip to her sisters, okay, as we know really, it’s her first weekend alone with Jackson. Jackson left the same night for his fishing trip with his buddies. He may have wished that’s where he was really going by the end of this weekend. My wife and Jackson were going to a city 3 hours away, they flew, we drove the next day, we wanted them to get comfortable the first night. Plus, we had a few things to do at home before we left.
The next morning Anna and I started our drive with paperwork in hand, smiles on our faces and songs in our lungs. We arrived and got our separate rooms, unloaded our suitcases and met in the lobby, it was around 2 so we went to have some lunch and look around the area. We weren’t in any hurry; we knew where they were. They had no idea where we were anyway, we both laughed at that. Nor did they have any idea about the surprise they were in store for tonight. We enjoyed our meals and decided it was time for us to prepare for the party. We returned to our rooms. We both put on our best outfits and grabbed our large manilla envelopes and headed to our car. We knew that the hotel they were staying at didn’t have a restaurant, so they would need to venture out. We sat in the car and waited from 5:45 until they walked out the front door holding hands like a married couple at 7:15. We followed them as they walked down the street to Ruth’s steakhouse. I admitted to Anna that I had always wanted to try that place. Anna suggested after we had served them, we should stay for dinner. I laughed but she said she wasn’t joking, so I agreed why not I thought to myself. It would be a bit of a slap in my wife’s face, and I would like to try a great aged steak. We gave them 30 minutes to place their orders and hopefully be served while were serving them our divorce papers.
We walked in and I felt a bit underdressed, while trying to get my eyes adjusted to the dark lighting, I spotted them first. We were starting to move in that direction when the hostess stopped us, I apologized and requested a table and she replied, it may be a 30-to-45-minute wait. I exclaimed perfect, with joy in my voice and maybe a bit loud for this place. The hostess gave both Anna and me the strangest look, as she wrote down my name. We both started the hardest walks of our lives. Across the darkened restaurant, up the 3 dimly lit steps to the upper level, around the corner all the while viewing lovers enjoying their partners. And then directly into the view of our spouses, kissing and holding hands. I noticed a bottle of wine sitting in an ice bucket, a single candle along with one long stem red rose sitting on their table. I thought perfect, they still haven’t eaten. This should put a damper on their appetites. We both walked up towards them with determination. We stopped right in front of their table and turned to face our unfaithful spouses. They looked up and gasps, gasps that could have been heard in the parking lot. I was the first to speak as Anna and I had already discussed, I said out in a loud non-threatening voice, your first weekend together was our last weekend together. Anna just giggled to the dismay of the lovers. They both lowered themselves into their booth as I continued. I asked my wife if she was enjoying her weekend with her sister, Anna immediately said and you with your fishing buddies. They just sat there; you could start to see tears forming in my wife’s eyes. I said stop it; this had been going on for far too long for you to start crying now. As I pointed my finger, moving it back and forth between the two of them. There is no salvation for any of us, this needs closure and today is that day. I placed the papers in front of my wife as Anna did the same with her husband. I said these are just copies, the official ones will be delivered to you at work Monday.
I spoke to my wife, here’s what they say 50/50 on all finances, and I have already split everything so don’t worry, your financially covered. The house was mine and will stay mine. You will receive a 40 thousand dollar check and what remains in your account which gives you almost 400 thousand dollars to help you start your new life. Move on, as soon as you get the papers have a lawyer check them and just sign them. Anna spoke much the same, but I’ll give you the house, but I’m taking my son. Jackson spoke for the first time and said where are you taking my son, Anna’s reply, stunned both of them, I moving in with him, as she pulled me closer. They both thought of protesting as she continued with a laugh and a smile and said just kidding as she pushed me away. We are only going to be roommates for a while and my son will be staying there with me. I looked at my wife and said problem solved, you can move in with Jackson, Oh that’s right, your stuff’s already there. That should make your move easy. She finally spoke with a scream, “what are you talking about. I moved your stuff last night after you left. Your stuff went to Anna’s and Anna’s and her son’s stuff came to my house. Isn’t that convenient for both of you. They both had nothing to say and just sat there. Out from behind us my name was called for our table. I said to my wife, oh by the way our kids got a full report of your misdeeds over the last 4 months and requested that you only text and email them for a while. My wife just slumped over in her seat. She may have fainted, but who knows or cares, our table was ready. We walked away from them for the last time, while raising my arm saying were right here to the hostess. I looked at Anna and said, I can’t wait for that steak now, Anna just giggled.

My opinions below:
For American-style steakhouses, it is Ruth's Chris in Weehawken with Dino and Harry's a close second. The Weehawken Ruth's Chris is much better than the one in Jersey City too...
For Brazilian-style steakhouses, it is I would say BRAZEIRO Churrascaria & Rodizio in North Bergen.
For the best steak dish from any restaurant, it is a tie between the steak and eggs for brunch at Zack's Oak Bar and the Monday Prime Rib at Court Street.

Does this compare to Ruth Chris? Is it worse better for the steak?

EDIT: Thanks for the replies. Yes I was asking for opinions about wine dinners at Ruth's Chris. Yes, I can afford to eat out.
Anyone hear of this? For this price you’d be better off buying the wine at Total Wine and grilling some Costco steak. Or heading to a place like Metro 8 in Durham or Perry’s in Raleigh. I can’t believe that a chain can charge this much.
