I was working on a story set in a medieval government where in the past a stressed king, wanting an easier life, came up with an idea where he shifted all decision-making responsibilities onto someone else and abdicate. His plan was to divide his political powers into shares and auction them off and offered the nobles who supported his decision the chance to participate in the auction to reach a consensus. I wanted my main characters to be born a few centuries later in this government, giving them reasons to oppose the exploitative system, similar to a cyberpunk story set in medieval times. I also aimed for some realism in the economic aspects affecting the story even though my knowledge of economics is limited. However I discovered something intersting and that would cause problems to my story.
In a system where wealthy individuals invest in political power, there's a strong incentive to maximize returns on that investment. The government would operate much like any other business but while imposing rules over its territories and generate profits through taxes. These profits would impact the value of the shares so shareholders would naturally want to extract the maximum taxes with minimal effort. This lead to a dilemma: while growing the economy increases tax revenue and share value, preventing people from enjoying the prosperity hampers tax collection. Furthermore, owning more shares grants more influence but also exposes one to greater impacts from decisions, balancing profit-seeking with potential losses. Externalities, like damages reducing productivity, also affect share value. Implementing human rights would not only boosts productivity but also attracts more people from which collect taxes. Similarly collecting rents from monopolies without distorting markets optimizes profits basically for free. Lastly the government will essentially become the supplier of services like justice because people would demand it and the quality of this services will be direcly impacted by the willingness of people to pay for it.
Exploring this system revealed many incentives seemingly aligning with the public good. However my questioning led me to this: assuming perfect rationality (obviously without it there could be differences) would such a system truly align profit with the public good? Could I have overlooked obvious counterpoints due to my limited understanding of economics?

Hey there,
I hope you're all doing well. I'm reaching out for some advice and support, particularly from fellow females, regarding a challenging situation in my relationship.
My boyfriend and I are both in our early twenties, and we've been together for almost a year now. Our relationship has always been incredibly special to me - we've built a strong foundation of trust, communication, and love. We've always been there for each other, respecting boundaries and caring deeply about one another's well-being.
Recently, a month ago, my boyfriend's mom passed away, leaving him with the profound loss of both his parents. It's been an incredibly tough time for him, and understandably, he's been struggling. I've been doing everything I can to support him through this heartbreaking time. Whether it's suggesting outings with his friends to distract him, or taking him out, cooking his favorite meals, or just being there to listen when he needs to talk, I've been trying my best to ensure he feels loved and cared for. Additionally, we both have similar work, so I help him out with his work stuff so he could slack off and do other things he likes doing, like playing video games.
However, amidst all of this, I've found myself feeling a bit forgotten. Our time together has decreased significantly, and the energy and passion in our conversations seem to have shifted. I understand that grief can be all-consuming, and I empathize with the immense pain he's going through. But despite knowing all of this logically, I can't shake this feeling of loneliness and disconnect.
It's not that I doubt his love for me - he's reassured me countless times that he loves me just as much as he always has. But it's hard not to feel like I'm drifting away from him, like I'm somehow slipping through the cracks of his grief. I miss the closeness we used to share, and it's been weighing heavily on my heart.
I'll give you an example. We don't live together, so whenever we meet, on our way back, he'd text me a lot of cute stuff, including how pretty I looked and how lucky he is to have me, and just stuff like that. And he has stopped doing that, and my mind can't help but overthink that something's wrong with our relationship or that he doesn't love me anymore.
To add to this, a recent incident really threw me off. My boyfriend cracked a joke, and I told him it was uncool and made me feel weird. He got mad at me and said he'd stop cracking jokes altogether. I feel like I can't say anything or do anything without walking on eggshells. We used to communicate openly about things, even the little stuff, and about my mental health. But now, he just makes me feel bad for expressing my emotions, and I can't help but feel like he resents me.

Tips and Tricks:
- If something isn't showing up for you, search by item/color name, open the link, delete everything after product name and refresh. You may need to do this a couple of times. If that doesn't work, try clearing cache and cookies and try again.
- Edit in cart trick: Add the item you want in any size and color to your cart, and then once it's in your cart change it to color you want.
- Don't look at the What's New page, use the site search bar.
- The app is laggy, use the website.
- The new drop has generally been starting around 2:10 p.m. EST in the U.S. and just after 3 p.m. EST in Canada, but sometimes (very infrequently) it varies.
- USA and Canada pretty much always get the same new items, just as mentioned above, Canada's drop happens around 40 minutes later, thus there's no Canada thread.

2024.05.14 10:58 BaphomeatDM 2 Minute Tabletop Asset Packs - Buyer Beware (sort of)

So let me preface this by saying 2 minute tabletop is great. I love the assets they create and I do not regret my purchase... HOWEVER the wording on the various 'everything' packs is a little disingenuous and doesn't really tell you what you're going to get without pouring through pages and pages of content. I realize Buyer Beware is normally 'this seller is doing a bad thing' but that's not what this is... this is a reminder for buyers to be wary and double check what you are buying to make sure it's what you need/want.
If you are just buying individual packs you should be good, just read what the pack says it has and buy it or move on. Boom done...
However the Everything packs are a little more cryptic and frankly if I was aware of WHAT I was getting I wouldn't have purchased the Everything pack cause it's kind of worthless for my purposes. There isn't a clear list of what is and isn't included though it does tell you. The ONLY assets it provides are the PWYW ones which you can get for free... basically I paid $70 for a bunch of assets I could have gotten for free since this bundle didn't really offer anything else.
The everything pack contains all of the MAPS and a handful of select assets (the aforementioned PWYW ones mostly) DESPITE the images provided with the packs included showing assets.
The one I want to draw attention too is the Cyberpunk Apartments vs Cyberpunk Apartments Assets Packs.
This was the main reason I bought this as I am working on a system using the core principles of Achtung! Cthulhu to create a sort of Order 1806 but in a psuedo-future setting game. So these assets were near perfect for what I wanted... and because I do also run a lot of other games from fantasy to scifi I figured i'd pick up the everything pack ASSUMING that the Cyberpunk Apartment Assets were included. They infact were not despite the Cyberpunk Apartments pack that I got using the EXACT same promo images.

As you can see in this screenshot it shows the maps with the assets behind them. So when looking over the product before purchase I assumed the assets were included with the pack I purchased. This is incorrect the Cyberpunk Apartments and Cyberpunk Apartments Pack are seperate products using all of the same promotional images.
Now i'm $70 in the hole with a bunch of pregen maps with NONE of the assets I wanted. I of course do not wholly blame the creator of this pack. If I had done my due diligence I would have seen this and just purchased the individual packs that I needed/wanted.
I'm doing this just so that if anyone else like myself was on the fence for picking up some of the assets from this creator that you do some more digging than I and avoid this issue.
I am actually upset but it's mostly due to a mistake that is my fault. So please don't take this as me being angry at the creator as the fault is on me**, this is just a bit of a PSA to ALWAYS double check things and even triple check before you purchase.**
Side note: the reason this pack is worthless is I hate using pregen maps... and that's what 90% of this is... the actual assets included are sporatic at best and some don't blend well together due to some being in a format where you can see some of the walls and others being straight up top-down.
I do wanna take a moment and give my opinions on the bundle though as a bit of an addition to this I give the 'Everything Pack' a 2 out of 10 and would just prefer a third pack of NOTHING but the assets as that's what I wanted out of these packs but in order to do that I have to buy the Everything Plus pack for double the price and STILL have most of those assets be pregen maps I will never use.
The assets themselves I give a 9/10. The creator does amazing work... it's just the way they choose to bundle and sell their assets that sucks.
