2024.05.14 05:30 digimarketeronline What factors influence a company's decision to use a codename for future products instead of its brand-name?

Companies often use codenames for future products for various reasons:
  1. Secrecy and Confidentiality: Codenames can help maintain secrecy during the development phase, especially if the product is in a competitive market. Using a codename can prevent competitors from gaining insights into the company's upcoming products and strategies.
  2. Avoiding Prejudgment: Sometimes, using a brand name too early can lead to premature judgment or speculation from the public, media, or investors. Codenames allow the company to develop the product without external biases based on its brand reputation.
  3. Internal Organization: Large companies with multiple product lines or divisions may use codenames to keep internal communication clear and organized. Codenames can help distinguish between different projects without revealing too much information to employees who may not be directly involved.
  4. Legal Considerations: In industries where intellectual property rights are crucial, using codenames can help protect trademarks and prevent potential legal conflicts. It can also prevent leaks that might affect patent applications or other legal processes.
  5. Marketing Strategy: Codenames can be part of a marketing strategy to generate excitement and anticipation around a new product. By using a mysterious or intriguing codename, companies can build anticipation without revealing too much about the product itself.
  6. Experimental or Prototype Stage: When a product is still in the experimental or prototype stage, using a codename can help manage expectations. It allows the company to iterate and refine the product without committing to its final branding until it's ready for public release.
  7. Differentiation: If a company wants to differentiate a new product from its existing lineup or reposition its brand, using a codename can help create a clear distinction between the old and new offerings.
  8. Internationalization: Codenames can be easier to pronounce or remember across different languages and cultures compared to brand names. This can be particularly useful for companies with a global presence or those planning to expand into new markets.
Overall, the decision to use a codename versus a brand name for future products depends on various factors, including the company's goals, industry norms, marketing strategy, and the stage of product development.

2024.05.14 05:29 blazblu82 Having an odd issue with my mods...

I can't seem to figure this one out. I have all the unleashed mods for all races and classes loaded. At one point, they were working. And now they aren't. Also, I've added Sorc and Lock subclasses, but I've lost Archfey and Storm Sorc. Doesn't seem to matter the order, I cannot get what I've lost back. I have CommLib at the very top followed by ModFixer and ImprovUI/Assets. The very last mod is Compat Framework. Everything else shouldn't matter for load order unless it's an add-on mod to another mod.
Any ideas here? I've spent all day getting this setup and I know I'm over looking something. One last detail, I'm modding in Linux, Fedora 40 more specifically running the Lampray mod manager). I have tried selecting various mod types and sometimes the mods simply won't load. Lampray doesn't have enough details to outright know how specifically to setup each mod. It's mostly trial and error.
TIA!

2024.05.14 05:28 Otherwise_Abies_8494 5 Takeaways from the Mallards-Gators opening series.

1. Kolm pitching and confidence.
In a series that had many interesting storylines such as Jorgensen’s and Behen’s first series with their new teams, Evan’s first official series in MLW after being drafted with the first overall pick in the past draft and Cheetam’s first series as manager it was Preston Kolm who caught my eye the most.
I thought that surely Jorgensen would get the ball for game 2. Instead, manager Tommy Coughlin decided to go with Preston, clearly, he impressed him in the offseason, and he certainly impressed me as well. He showed great command, his pitches looked sharp, movement was working, and you could see that as he got deeper into the game his confidence was rising, he even broke out a Kracht-esque sidestep pitch for a strikeout. He ended up with a no hitter and a near perfect game just ruined by a single walk.
Now, with no intention of ruining the Mallards hype party, it is important to note that the Gators are probably not the most competitive team in the league, and their offense might be the weakest of all teams. They only scored one run in 9 innings (granted, the Mallards scored 2) but still, it was an amazing first outing for Kolm.
What was interesting to watch is that the confidence was not only bounded to pitching, but it carried over to everything else. He made some nice defensive plays in the field including a really tough one. At the plate he reached in 4 out of his 6 plate appearances.
I will follow his progress closely as the season goes on, but the Mallards suddenly have really nice depth in their rotation, with 3 very capable arms on the roster.
2. Sawyer Behen can pitch!
Coming into this series many eyes where on Behen, and for good reason. After the very loud and controversial trade that saw Behen land with the Gators, there is a lot of pressure on him to perform this year, especially with the comments he made during the offseason, and if this series is any indication of what we will see from him, ohh boy did the Gators win this trade. After Jorgensen’s departure the Gators will need to fill the franchise player vacancy. And while I don’t think Behen can be enough of a hitter to fill that void, he showed he can be the face of the Gators pitching staff. Behen looked unhittable, and aside from a Robles rocket to left field, no one really made strong contact off him. His final line was 7IP, 1ER, 16K and 9BB. With Behen at this level on the mound, rookie Evans talent and Cheetam as a third arm the Gators quietly have a solid rotation, capable of winning games even against the most dangerous offenses as they nearly did in the 3 games against the Mallards.
3. Gators rookies are here!
Aiden Richard joined the Gators as an undrafted free agent, and while I’m sure it was not the debut he hoped for, as he went 0-2 and had a whoopsie play in right field that resulted in a Robles home run which ended up being the winning run for the Mallards. He looked good. He was responsible for one of the few Gators’ hard-hit balls, unfortunately it went just foul instead of what would have been a monster home run. But his swing looks good, he clearly has power and I think as the season goes on and as he racks up more plate appearances, he will be a good player for the Gators.
As for fist overall pick Jeremy Adams it was mixed bag, he started off great with a well hit ball to open the series for the Gators but wasn’t able to get any hits after that. Still, he managed to reach base 4 times in 10 PA’s. Which was the best mark on his team. The swing looks dangerous and there is definitively a power threat in there. I think it will take some time for him to adjust to MLW pitchers and rules, but I am confident he will figure it out. However, what really impressed me was his pitching. It is normal for first year players to struggle as pitchers, but Evans looked as comfortable as a veteran star pitcher. He only allowed one run in 3 innings of work and that run should have a major asterisk next to it, as Richard pushed the ball over the fence on a batted ball that would have never made it past the fence without some help. Overall, I loved what I saw from him on the mound, and Behen now must be absolutely remarkable if he doesn’t want to lose his spot as the guy in the pitching rotation. I would go as far as to say that Evans might already be the best second arm in the league, (if he will be the second arm for much longer is really in question) to say he has ace potential is an underestimation.
4. What happened to the Mallards offense?
If you would have told me that the Mallards would manage only 2 runs in the whole series against the Gators, I would have called you crazy. Nevertheless, that is exactly what happened, and I have no idea what to think about it. I had previously called the new Mallards offense the best assembled lineup in modern MLW history. The fact that they couldn’t really get anything going against a rookie pitcher and a 2.48 ERA pitcher in Behen is honestly, surprising. There is no point in trying to analyze why this happened. Its too small of a sample size. Let’s just call it an off day for them, but its something that is worth paying attention for their next series.
5. What happened to the cheat code?
I believed Cheetam could return to his usual form as a hitter, after an awful 2023 season, but it was a torrid start. If the Gators want to play playoff baseball this season, they need Cheetam’s bat to wake up. He is now the leader of this incredible young team, and I fear that if they keep getting no production out of him their season will be a short one.

2024.05.14 05:27 Abject-Technician558 Mail to a Non-Existant Address

(Posting via mobile. Apologies for formatting)
I live in a single-family home. Let's call it "200 Sample Street".
Over the past year or so, we have had mail come for several different people we don't know, addressed to "200 Sample Street, Unit # ___ ". There are no "units" here.
This is "actual mail", not bulk ads or solicitations. The senders appear to have had some sort of business transaction(s) with the people the mail is addressed to.
We DO NOT open the mail. Often you can see the word "invoice" through the little plastic window.
The mail appears to be from insurance companies, medical centers, storage unit rental places, etc.
We've been marking them "Addressee Unknown/ No Such Address", and taking them back to the Post Office. They say "Oh, we'll handle it!" But the mail keeps coming.
There are about five different names, and they all use different unit numbers, so it doesn't seem like a single erro typo.
There is not another "200 Sample Street" within 100 miles of here.
We haven't seen anyone fishing around in our mailbox on the doorbell cam.
None of the neighbors are getting this kind of mail.
The only thing I can think of are that someone needed a physical address (like for insurance), and made one up. But that would only explain one instance.
I've heard squatters try to have mail sent to help establish a claim on a property, but there's nobody camped in our yard. 😉.
Is there something we're missing here?
Thanks for any ideas/input.

2024.05.14 05:26 stlatos PIE *kVs > Germanic kVs as Optional

https://www.academia.edu/119041827

Grimm’s Law with Verner’s Law explain many consonant shifts in Germanic regularly, but some exceptions exist. Thurneysen’s Law concerns, in part, voicing dissimilation of nearby fricatives and has been interpreted as either irregular or due to unknown changes in Gothic, not of PGmc. date. In this framework I will attempt to add another type of dissimilation of fricatives, also at a distance and irregular, and necessarily of PGmc. date. Many, not all, PIE *kVs appear as Gmc. *kVs, likely due to regular *k > *x then optional *xVs > *kVs in PGmc. Also, *kVz might also be included, depending on the timing of *d > *t, *zd > *st, etc. (*kizdno-, below). This would be dissimilation of [+continuant] in fricatives, or similar changes in whatever system is accepted. Examples:

*kus-ne/ye- ‘kiss’ > H. kuwas-, G. kunéō, Ps. kṣulawul, Gmc. *kusja- > E. kiss, ON kyssa

*H2ak^- ‘sharp’ (in many names of bladed objects, etc.)
*H2ak^si-() ‘axe’ > G. axī́nē , L. ascia
*H2ak^si-wo-? > *H2ak^wisyo- > Go. aqizi, ON øx, OHG acchus, E. ax(e)

*kwa(H2)t(h)o- > Skt. kvath- ‘boil’, Go. hvaþō ‘foam’
*kwa(H2)so- > OBg kvasŭ ‘leaven / fermented drink’
*kwa(H2)s(e/i)yo- > L. cāseus ‘cheese’, *kwasja-z > ON Kvasir ‘a wise Van formed from the spit of gods, killed by dwarves who mixed his blood with honey to ferment into Mead of Poetry’

*kizd- ‘pine (sap) / turpentine pine’ >>
*kizdaH2- > Skt. cīḍā- ‘turpentine pine’
*kizdimo- > *kīḷima- > Skt. kilima-m ‘kind of pine’, A. kíilum ‘turpentine’ (*zd > ḷ after RUKI, as Vedic)
*kizdno- > Gmc. *kizna- > OE cén ‘fipine/spruce’, OHG kén

*H2ag^sulo- > ON öxull, OHG ahsala ‘shoulder’, NHG Achsel ‘armpit’, OE eaxl, E. axle
*H2ag^su- > *H2ak^su- > *aH2k^us-?, OHG uochisa \ uochsana , OE ócusta \ óxta \ óxn ‘armpit’

These are likely related to ‘axle’ < *H2ag^- ‘drive’, but the optional metathesis seems likely limited to Gmc., well after *gs > *ks, etc., *k > x, especially since the same type of metathesis produces *H2ak^wisyo- in a word certainly < *H2ak^- ‘sharp’. When several nearly identical roots vary only in having *k > k in Gmc., a specific change there is preferable to looking for several new roots with only evidence from one branch. Removing ‘axe’ from ‘sharp’ also seems misguided, and attempts to explain this in a reasonable manner would surely have found the common *kVs before now, if tried at all. Manaster Ramer’s idea that Go. aqizi comes from a compound with *-k^g- seems less likely due to the other cases with irregular *k > k all occurring before s, which shows that a sound change is responsible, not an individual explanation for each. Previous attempts to separate all these sets of words since *k > k is not regular do not seem needed if the specific environment *k-s is considered for all these. For example, Kloekhorst said, “The formal as well as semantic similarity to Gr. kunéō ‘to kiss’ (*ku-ne-s-) and OHG kussan ‘to kiss’ is striking. Nevertheless, the Hittite verb cannot be cognate to both, since Gr. k- does not regularly correspond to OHG k-.” Once might be coincidence, but with 5 good examples, the support for this change (or lack of change) seems sufficient. Separating nearly identical words because *k seems to become k shows that a search for only what is clearly regular and a dependence on what is already known as regular has hindered the growth of historical linguistics.

Several other words, less clear, might show that *k-k > k-k could be included:
Li. kaĩras \ kaĩrias \ kairỹs ‘left’, kairė̃ ‘left hand’, Gmc. *kaika- > ON keikr ‘bent backwards’, Dan. kei ‘left hand’

An even less certain case of *x-x > *k-x might be:
*xux- > *kux- > OE cohhetan ‘blusteriot/cough’, Dutch kuch, E. cough

Though this seems to be onomatopoeia within Gmc., thus *xux- has no outside evidence, languages with [x] often have words for ‘cough’ start with this, like:
Khw. xaf-, NP xaf-, Os. xuf-

Though uncertain, such speculation is only possible due to good evidence for *kVs > kVs. The sporadic nature of Thurneysen’s Law seems matched by, at least, this change in all of Gmc., making its nature and scope as PGmc. in age more likely. That these changes were optional need not be evidence they did not exist at all. Any attempt can only lead to absurdities and chaos, all unneeded.

2024.05.14 05:26 Carpetfreak The Obscure Birds: A Theory Regarding Shakespeare's Macbeth

[I wrote this article about Macbeth for my college's newspaper, and I thought this subreddit might enjoy reading it!]
I have joked before that Shakespeare’s two favorite subjects–surpassing love, murder, madness, and crossdressing–are botany and birds. If you’ve been to New York City you might be aware of the “Shakespeare Garden” in Central Park, whose theoretical aim (though it proves nigh-impossible in practice) is to house specimens of all the plants which Shakespeare mentions in his plays. As it turns out, Bard quotes make for quite a diverse garden: there are roses which assuredly would smell as sweet by any other name; there are daffodils, that come before the swallow dares, and take the winds of March with beauty; there’s holly, heigh-ho; there’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance, there’s pansies, that’s for thoughts, there’s fennel for you, and columbines–no word on whether or not they could find any violets, though. I suppose there’s no objection to be made against those who complain that Shakespeare’s language is “flowery”; even as vicious a villain as Iago deigns to express his philosophy on life by way of botanical metaphor: “Our bodies are our gardens, to the which our wills are gardeners.” And, of course, the plot of A Midsummer Night’s Dream revolves around a magical flower which makes people fall in love.
I doubt anyone will object to my claiming of birds as Shakespeare’s other poetical fixation: I suspect that the majority of falconry knowledge which most non-falconers have today comes from reading footnotes in their copies of Shakespeare plays, explaining exactly what Richard II means by “How high a pitch his resolution soars,” or why Hamlet says “Hillo, ho, ho” to Marcellus. But while plants are so common in Shakespeare that I don’t know of one play which we might say is especially densely forested with references to them, there is one play that stands out as particularly full of birds in comparison with the rest of the Shakespearean canon. That play is Macbeth.
This is the sort of thing that one only notices after having read a play so many times that the actual events of the plot become akin to the meter of a poem–beats which must be hit, and which start to feel so natural that one hardly notices them–and one’s attention drifts away from the big, important speeches and toward the more utilitarian words and odd little moments that bridge them. I am not the first to point it out, but it is, all the same, a delightful quirk of the play, and could be a good way for Sophomores to throw their classmates for a loop in seminar [Note: Students at our college study Macbeth during their Sophomore year.]: why are there so many birds in Macbeth?
KING. Dismay’d not this/Our captains, Macbeth and Banquo? SERG. Yes,/As sparrows eagles… -Act I, Scene II
LADY. …The raven himself is hoarse/That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan… -Act I, Scene V
BAN. This guest of summer,/The temple-haunting martlet, does approve/By his loved mansionry, that the heaven’s breath/Smells wooingly here: no jutty, frieze/Buttress, nor coign of vantage, but this bird/Hath made his pendent bed and procreant cradle… -Act I, Scene VI
LADY. Hark! Peace! It was the owl that shriek’d, the fatal bellman… -Act II, Scene II
LADY. I heard the owl scream and the crickets cry. -Act II, Scene II
PORTER. …come in, tailor; here you may roast your goose… -Act II, Scene III
PORTER. ‘Faith, sir, we were carousing till the second cock… -Act II, Scene III
LENNOX. New hatch’d to the woeful time: the obscure bird/Clamour’d the livelong night… -Act II, Scene III
OLD MAN. …On Tuesday last,/A falcon, towering in her pride of place,/Was by a mousing owl hawk’d at and kill’d. -Act II, Scene IV
MACBETH. …Light thickens; and the crow/Makes wing to the rooky wood… -Act III, Scene II
MACBETH. If charnel-houses and our graves must send/Those that we bury back, our monuments/Shall be the maws of kites. -Act III, Scene IV
MACBETH. Augurs and understood relations have/By magot pies and choughs and rooks brought forth/The secret’st man of blood. -Act III, Scene IV
LADY MACDUFF. …the poor wren,/the most diminutive of birds, will fight,/Her young ones in her nest, against the owl. -Act IV, Scene II
LADY MACDUFF. How will you live? SON. As birds do, mother. LADY MACDUFF. What, with worms and flies? SON. With what I get, I mean; and so do they. LADY MACDUFF. Poor bird! Thou’ldst never fear the net nor lime,/The pitfall nor the gin? SON. Why should I, mother? Poor birds they are not set for. -Act IV, Scene II
FIRST MURDERER. What, you egg! -Act IV, Scene II
MACDUFF. …there cannot be/That vulture in you… -Act IV, Scene III
MACDUFF. …O hell-kite! All?/What, all my pretty chickens and their dam/At one fell swoop? -Act IV, Scene III
MACBETH. The devil damn thee black, thou cream-faced loon!/Where got’st thou that goose look? SERVANT. There is ten thousand– MACBETH. Geese, villain? -Act V, Scene III
Above I have listed every ornithological reference that I’ve found in the Scottish Play; as we peruse them, we certainly cannot conclude that every individual reference is of the same kind, or carries the same import. I will not pretend, for example, that, just because geese and ravens are both birds, the Porter’s invitation for the imagined English tailor to cook his goose in Hell merits as much attention as Lady Macbeth’s ominous declaration that “the raven himself is hoarse”. Nor do I think that any individual reference particularly demands explication; by itself, any one of these bird-invocations seems perfectly natural. Shakespeare’s talent is such that he can repeat a motif in such a way that on the macro level it is obvious yet on the micro level it hardly feels present. But that macro level is what interests me here: what impression is created, on the whole, by the presence of so many birds in this play? I have a theory, which, though it may seem far-fetched, I think merits at least some consideration, and which, at the very least, I have not seen stated elsewhere, and so may make a novel contribution to the conversation.
Macbeth is both Shakespeare’s most supernatural tragedy and his most Sophoclean; these two superlatives are inextricably related. The appellative Weird given to the opening scene’s three Sisters–derived from the Old English wyrd, meaning destiny, and famously given its more familiar connotation by Shakespeare himself in this very play–is, among the Bard’s works, unique to Macbeth; and just as that word appears nowhere else in Shakespeare, so is the concept it represents absent in all tragedies but this one. Though Hamlet may cry out against outrageous fortune, and though Othello may rhetoricize about how no man can control his fate, it is only in Macbeth that we truly feel that the events we see play out before us are fated, predestined, inevitable. [See Note 1.] The ghost in Hamlet commands his son to revenge his foul and most unnatural murder, but does not tell him it is certain that he will succeed; indeed, would not the drama be sapped of its intrigue if that level of certainty were present? Meanwhile, the supernatural interlopers in Macbeth offer the Scottish thane not a mission, but a prophecy: All hail, Macbeth! that shalt be king hereafter! From its mystical opening word–When, not If–the Scottish play makes us aware of the certainty of all that is to befall our tragic antihero. Macbeth is thus a different sort of tragedy than Shakespeare’s others, and it works by an inverted mechanism. While the tragedy of, for example, Desdemona’s death is that it may have been prevented, the tragedy of Macbeth’s destruction is that it represents the fulfilment of fate; and this is the very same mechanism by which Oedipus Rex operates, complete with its own “Weird” character in the form of the seer Tiresias. Though Calvin managed to accept that some men are destined for greatness and others for ruin, this idea is, to Shakespeare and Sophocles, nothing short of agonizing–the stuff of tragedy.
Now: what does all of this have to do with birds? Consider these words from Antigone, spoken by Tiresias to Creon:
You shall learn, when you hear the indications of my art! As I took my place on my ancient seat for observing birds, where I can mark every bird of omen I heard a strange sound among them, since they were screeching with dire, incoherent frenzy and I knew that they were tearing each other with bloody claws, for there was a whirring of wings that made it clear… (Lloyd-Jones translation)
Consider next these words from Oedipus Tyrannus, spoken defensively by Oedipus to Tiresias:
Why, come, tell me, how can you be a true prophet? Why when the versifying hound was here did not you speak some word that could release the citizens? Indeed, her riddle was not one for the first comer to explain! It required prophetic skill, and you were exposed as having no knowledge from the birds or from the gods. No, it was I that came, Oedipus who knew nothing, and put a stop to her; I hit the mark by native wit, not by what I learned from birds. (Lloyd-Jones translation)
The practice of divining the future from birds–be it from their behaviors, their cries, or their innards–was, to Sophocles and his contemporaries, not superstitious hokum, but a practical science at which one could be skilled or unskilled, and it bodes ill for Oedipus that he is so quick to disregard it in favor of his own native wit. [See Note 2] By Shakespeare’s day, the practice had long been relegated to the realm of outdated hocus-pocus, but the Bard still saw some truth in it; in Macbeth, there is a recurring sense that, when the world is sick with some great wrong, its first symptoms manifest in the behavior of birds. When the “fatal bellman” the owl shrieks in the night, Lady Macbeth takes it as a sign that her husband is about his bloody business. The day after the murder of Duncan, as Ross converses with an Old Man about the strange things they’ve seen the previous night, “unnatural/Even as the deed that’s done”, the killing of a falcon by a mousing-owl–an omen straight out of Sophocles–is mentioned before the madness and cannibalism of Duncan’s horses, even though the latter would surely be more immediately noticeable and ghastly than the former.
These are the most obvious examples of birds as ill omens in Macbeth; yet even the more innocuous invocations of birds throughout the rest of the play continually turn our thoughts back to the ancient Greek understanding of fate and prophecy, and thereby remind us that, however savagely he may fight at Dunsinane, Macbeth’s fate is as fixed as that of Oedipus. The birds have already foretold all.
Note 1: The closest thing there is to this kind of fatalness in another Shakespearean tragedy is the several superstitious occurrences in Julius Caesar–both the soothsayer’s message of “Beware the ides of March” and the bestial portents such as the lack of a heart in an offering and the whelping of a lioness in the streets. Still, I will insist that these omens do not convey a sense of fatedness to the audience as strongly as the Weird Sisters in Macbeth by virtue of their being told to Caesar himself, not to Brutus, the play’s true protagonist, and by the fact that Shakespeare elsewhere uses dialogue to throw some doubt upon the idea of predestination: "Men at some times are masters of their fates:/The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,/But in ourselves, that we are underlings." -I.ii
Note 2: The Liddell-Scott Greek Lexicon identifies at least two separate verbs referring to bird-based divination, both of which are present in the quoted passages: Tiresias uses ορνϊθοσκοπέομαι, observe birds, interpret their flight and cries, while Oedipus uses οιωνίζομαι, take omens from the flight and cries of birds. The latter term comes from οιωνος, a large bird, bird of prey, such as a vulture or eagle, and so distinguished from a common bird, while the former comes from ορνις, which more generally refers to a bird, including birds of prey and domestic fowls. Birds of both kinds are present in Macbeth; there are οιωναι, such as the “falcon, towering in her pride of place”, as well as ορνες, like the Porter’s goose and cock. I therefore see little value in interrogating the kinds of birds invoked by Shakespeare, the specific cultural associations and significance of the owl, the raven, or the wren; rather, if we reduce them down to their barest existence as birds, animals of the class Aves, and consider them in an ancient Greek light, then things become a bit clearer.

2024.05.14 05:25 allthetakenthings I don’t know how to contact my landlord (OH)

TL;DR need advice on how to go about contacting or how to find more contact info for my landlord that I just found out is different than who I believed. Apologies in advance for the long-windedness. Questions are at the end So I asked a question in this sub a bit ago about trying to avoid having to pay rent if I broke my lease because I knew they wouldn’t rent my apartment because they plan to flip it. Most people told me to just ask to see if they would be amenable to ending the lease early. So I did that last week only to be told I would need to talk to the owner. I had been on the phone with the maintenance dept of the management company because of an ongoing issue they have still not resolved, so I thought they meant I just had to talk to someone else so I asked to be transferred. They said they couldn’t do that. So I asked if they had a direct line so I wouldn’t have to go through the automated prompts again. They said no. So I asked if calling the office or using the text line would be better. He said, “no, that’s all for the management company. We are hired by the owner. You would have to talk to the owner directly if you had a question about the lease.” I was a bit dumbfounded by this because I had never been given any other information. My former landlord sold my building at the end of February and just told us that we would be contacted by [first name last name] realty on how to pay rent for March. The next day I had a letter from [3 letters] management with an intro and how to pay my rent. We were given a phone number to call and a different one to text. Around that time I got a text from the text number who identified himself as same [first name last name] from [3 letters] management. So at this point, I assumed he was my landlord. I did ask the maintenance guy if he could just tell me the name of the owner and he said he knew it but couldn’t give out that information. I was kind of at a loss at this point and venting to my friend and he told me I could look up the property records online. The owner is an LLC that was created about a month before buying my building. I only have a PO Box address in a city 2+ hours from my apt. I really don’t want to mail a letter asking for them to contact me about mutually ending the lease early. I had been hesitant just to ask the management company when I thought they were the landlord just because of how difficult they have made this. I have to imagine a landlord that hasn’t made themselves known and is also kicking out of everyone from the building to flip it is not going to be helpful. I tried googling and the AI overview states that a landlord must notify tenants who the new owner is but when I click into the articles, nothing I have found explicitly states this. So my questions are: Was someone supposed to tell me who my actual landlord was and how to contact them? Are there other resources I can use to find out how to contact my landlord other than the P.O. Box? Is it worth talking to a different person at the management company to see if they would be willing to give me more info? Should I try to ask my old landlord for this info? Has anyone else gone through something like this and what did you do? TIA

2024.05.14 05:24 starredkiller108 Hypothetically, what would the gameplay be like if we had to fight on Super Earth proper?

I mean, it's probably bound to happen at some point, Joel gets an idea for a deep incursion into friendly space, which manages to reach Super Earth itself, and results in us having to fight to defend our very home world, how do you think the gameplay would work in such a case?
For example, do you think we'd fight in any real-life cities with recognizable buildings or monuments? Or do you think we'd just get futuristic stuff in there?

Understanding the Process of Owner Financing for Houses
Understanding the Process of Owner Financing for Houses
Understanding the Procedure of Landlord Funding for Residences
Landlord funding is a method that allows proprietors to vend their properties directly to purchasers without engaging traditional lenders. This form of funding can be an appealing option for both marketers and purchasers, distinctly in scenarios where traditional funding is challenging to gain. In this piece, we will scrutinize the procedure of landlord funding for residences, encompassing its advantages and potential inconveniences for both factions implicated.
What Is Landlord Funding?
Landlord funding, also recognized as vendor funding or vendor carryback, is a real estate transaction in which the dealer of a property delivers funding for the purchaser. Instead of the buyer gaining a mortgage from a bank or other traditional lender, the dealer operates as the lender and delivers the funding for the purchase. This usually contains the dealer assenting to a down payment from the buyer and then authorizing the buyer to make monthly payments until the property is paid off in full.
Advantages of Landlord Funding for Marketers
There are numerous advantages for marketers who opt to propose landlord funding for their properties. One of the principal advantages is the capability to captivate a broader pool of potential purchasers. In abundant scenarios, purchasers who are incapable to acquire traditional funding owing to substandard credit, self-employment, or other causes may still be adept to obtain a property through landlord funding.
Additionally, dealers may be skilled to mandate a higher retailing price for their property when granting landlord funding, as they have the aptitude to set their own terms and interest rates. This can culminate in a superior comprehensive return on investment for the dealer.
Another perk of landlord funding for marketers is the prospect for recurrent income. Alternatively of collecting a lump sum of cash from the sale of their property, dealers can receive regular monthly payments, which can cater a trustworthy stream of income over time.
Advantages of Landlord Funding for Purchasers
Purchasers may also ascertain landlord funding to be an appealing option for procuring a residence. One of the premier advantages for purchasers is the capability to procure a home without having to fulfill the stringent prerequisites of traditional lenders. This can be markedly profitable for purchasers with less-than-ideal credit or those who are self-employed.
Additionally, landlord funding can afford purchasers with more flexibility in bargaining the terms of the sale. For instance, purchasers may be able to negotiate a reduced down payment, a lower interest rate, or an elongated repayment period with the dealer.
Another advantage for purchasers is the potential for a prompter and more straightforward finalizing process. Since landlord funding does not involve traditional lenders, the closure process can recurrently be achieved more expeditiously and with fewer hoops to traverse.
Potential Drawbacks of Landlord Funding for Marketers
While landlord funding can yield numerous advantages for marketers, there are also potential drawbacks to ruminate. One of the principal drawbacks is the jeopardy of nonpayment. If the buyer neglects to make their programmed payments, the dealer may need to endure the procedure of reclaiming the property and finding a new purchaser. This can be a time-consuming and valuable procedure, and may infer in a financial loss for the dealer.
Additionally, extending landlord funding can confine a substantial amount of the dealer's capital in the property, which may hinder their capacity to invest in other prospects. Dealers also shoulder the liability of market alterations that could plausibly devalue the property over time, diminishing the entire return on investment.
Potential Drawbacks of Landlord Funding for Purchasers
For purchasers, one potential drawback of landlord funding is the higher interest rates that are habitually affiliated with this form of funding. Since dealers have the capability to set their own terms, purchasers may culminate paying a higher interest rate than they would with a traditional mortgage.
Another potential drawback for purchasers is the absence of protection and oversight delivered by traditional lenders. Since landlord funding does not involve a financial institution, purchasers may miss out on imperative protections and regulations that are systematically provided in a traditional mortgage agreement.
The Procedure of Landlord Funding for Residences
The procedure of landlord funding for residences mostly commences with the dealer and buyer haggling the terms of the sale. This encompasses determining the purchase price, the down payment amount, the interest rate, and the repayment timetable. Both factions may also need to accede on any supplementary terms, such as the length of the repayment period and any penalties for late payments.
Once the terms have been established, the factions will need to contrive a promissory note, which delineates the particulars of the funding agreement. This document will encompass pivotal information such as the loan amount, the interest rate, the repayment calendar, and any penalties for nonpayment.
In adjunct to the promissory note, the factions will also need to formulate a deed of trust or mortgage, which serves as collateral for the loan. This document will confer the dealer the right to foreclose on the property if the buyer neglects to make their programmed payments.
Once the funding agreement has been concluded and the indispensable documents have been devised, the factions can proceed with the closing process. This customarily encompasses the buyer making a down payment and signing the funding documents, as well as transferring the title of the property to the buyer.
After the sale has been concluded, the purchaser will commence making monthly payments to the dealer in accordance with the terms of the funding agreement. The dealer will then be obligated for administering the payments and guaranteeing that the purchaser abides by the terms of the agreement.
Regulatory Considerations for Landlord Funding
It's pivotal to note that landlord funding for residences is subject to assorted regulatory considerations, which can deviate by state and local jurisdiction. Marketers and purchasers should be cognizant of any regulations that may be pertinent to their specific circumstances, encompassing disclosure requirements, interest rate restrictions, and other legal considerations.
In some scenarios, marketers may be obligated to provide certain disclosures to purchasers, such as information about the property's condition or any potential hazards. Additionally, marketers may be subject to restrictions on the interest rates they can charge for landlord funding, so it's pivotal to be cognizant of any applicable regulations.
Purchasers should also be cognizant of their rights and responsibilities when it comes to landlord funding, encompassing their obligations to make prompt payments and sustain the property in accordance with the terms of the agreement. It's pivotal for purchasers to scrupulously review the funding documents and seek legal counsel if essential to guarantee that they comprehend their rights and obligations.
Observations for Triumphant Landlord Funding
For marketers and purchasers contemplating landlord funding for a residence, there are several observations to bear in mind to guarantee a prosperous transaction.
For marketers:
  1. Perform thorough due diligence on potential buyers: Take the time to meticulously vet potential buyers to guarantee they have the capacity to make their programmed payments and maintain the property.
  2. Consult with legal and financial professionals: Seek advice from legal and financial professionals to guarantee that the funding agreement conforms with all applicable regulations and shields your interests.
  3. Consider engaging a loan servicing company: A loan servicing company can aid in managing the monthly payments and guarantee that the buyer abides by the terms of the agreement.
For purchasers:
  1. Review the funding agreement scrupulously: Thoroughly review the funding documents and seek legal counsel if essential to guarantee that you comprehend the terms and your obligations.
  2. Be prepared for higher interest rates: Since proprietors can set their own terms, be prepared for potentially higher interest rates than you would find with a traditional mortgage.
  3. Consider engaging a real estate attorney: A real estate attorney can aid in reviewing the funding documents and delivering guidance throughout the process to shield your interests.
Conclusion
Landlord funding for residences can be an appealing option for both marketers and purchasers in some scenarios. This form of funding delivers flexibility and convenience for both factions and can be an effective way to facilitate the sale of a property when traditional funding is not feasible.
However, it's imperative for marketers and purchasers to meticulously contemplate the potential advantages and drawbacks of landlord funding before engaging into an agreement. Marketers should be mindful of the perils and obligations associated with landlord funding, while purchasers should be aware of the potential drawbacks and the necessity to scrupulously review the terms of the funding agreement.
By comprehending the procedure of landlord funding and pursuing professional guidance when necessary, marketers and purchasers can navigate this form of funding triumphantly and accomplish their respective goals in a real estate transaction.

2024.05.14 05:23 DracoStoc What are the main reasons a decent player misses long shots frequently.

I'm an APA 5 in 8 ball and 6 in 9 ball. Having played a few tournaments I can say that I'm pretty fairly ranked. Compared to a lot of the other players my SL I have better awareness of safeties, better pattern play, and better cue ball control. I would even be vain enough to say in those regards I'm better than many higher rated players I've played against.
But I am legitimately god awful for my rank at actually potting shots that require the cue ball to travel more than half a table. The vast majority of my losses are me missing shots that, while certainly not "free", are embarrassing to miss. For perspective, I have less than 50% confidence making a spotted ball from anywhere in the kitchen. For the life of me though I can't figure out why this part of my game is so bad. At short range I can reliably make precise cuts. If the object ball is close to the cue ball and needs to run the full length of the table that's also not a big issue. I've checked errant spin, stroke and aiming point. I'm cross eye dominate so I've experimented with keeping an eye closed but to no avail.
I'm running out of my own ideas to check. The last thing I can think of is my cross-eye dominance is making it so that I need to slightly adjust my stance addressing the ball depending on the target distances but that seems both unlikely and extremely difficult to narrow down and work out on my own.
For anyone who's helped fix decent players potting mistakes, what are some of the common errors that maybe I'm not thinking about to check? Of course it could just be a matter of drilling until I'm better, but I'm worried that if I do have a fundamental flaw, I'd be drilling that practice into my shot and it'd be hard to remove later.

2024.05.14 05:22 TrueMetalSmiths CNC Turning vs CNC Milling: What Are the Differences?

CNC Turning vs CNC Milling: What Are the Differences?
CNC machining has revolutionized modern manufacturing by enabling the efficient production of high-precision parts. Within CNC machining, there are two main processes: CNC turning and CNC milling. While both processes use computer-controlled machines to remove material from a workpiece, there are significant differences between the two. In this post, we will discuss more details about the differences between them.

Basics and Benefits of CNC Turning and Milling:

The process of CNC turning involves rotating a workpiece while a cutting tool removes material from it, which is commonly used for parts with cylindrical or symmetrical shapes like shafts, pins, and bushings. On the other hand, CNC milling involves removing material from a workpiece by moving a cutting tool in multiple directions along different axes, which is usually used for parts with non-symmetrical or flat shapes like gears, brackets, and enclosures.

4 Benefits of CNC Milling:

  • High Precision: CNC milling offers high precision and accuracy, making it an excellent choice for producing intricate parts with tight tolerances.
  • Versatility: With the ability to use a wide variety of cutting tools, CNC milling can produce parts made from various materials like metals, plastics, and composites.
  • Complex Shapes: CNC milling can produce parts with complex shapes, including curved and tapered shapes, which are difficult to produce using other methods.
  • Automated Production: CNC milling can be automated, resulting in consistent quality and high production rates, reducing the risk of human error.

4 Benefits of CNC Turning:

  • Quick Production: CNC turning offers high-speed production of precision parts, making it an ideal choice for high-volume production.
  • Material Versatility: CNC turning can handle a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, and wood.
  • Low Maintenance: CNC turning machines are relatively low maintenance and require less operator intervention, leading to increased productivity and reduced downtime.
  • Reduced Scrap: CNC turning produces less waste, reducing the cost of raw materials and the environmental impact of the manufacturing process.

Differences between CNC Turning and CNC Milling:

Part Geometry: As mentioned earlier, CNC turning is best suited for parts with a cylindrical or symmetrical shape, while CNC milling is better for flat or non-symmetrical parts. This is because CNC turning is limited to producing parts that are rotationally symmetric around a central axis, while CNC milling can produce parts with a wide variety of shapes and features.
Tool Movement: Another key difference between CNC turning and milling is the movement of the cutting tool. In CNC turning, the cutting tool moves in a circular motion, following the contour of the part being produced. In CNC milling, the cutting tool moves in a linear motion, following a path determined by the part program.
Speed and Feed Rates: CNC turning is generally faster than CNC milling, due to the circular movement of the cutting tool and the ability to remove material in a continuous, uninterrupted motion. However, CNC milling can be more precise and accurate, especially when producing complex shapes or parts with tight tolerances.
Tooling: The type of cutting tool used in CNC turning is typically a single-point cutting tool, which is held in a tool post and moves across the surface of the rotating workpiece. In CNC milling, a wide variety of cutting tools can be used, including end mills, ball mills, and drills, which are held in a spindle and move along multiple axes.
Material Removal: In CNC turning, material is removed from the workpiece by the cutting tool in a continuous, uninterrupted motion, producing long, curly chips that can be difficult to dispose of. In CNC milling, the material is removed in a series of small, discrete cuts, producing smaller, more manageable chips.
Programming Complexity: CNC turning is generally simpler to program than CNC milling since the tool moves along a single axis and the part geometry is relatively simple. CNC milling requires more complex programming since the tool moves along multiple axes and the part geometry can be more complex.

Common Applications of CNC Turning and Milling

The choice between CNC turning and milling depends on the type of part being produced and its specific requirements. CNC turning is typically used for simple cylindrical parts, while CNC milling is ideal for more complex parts that require high precision. Both processes are widely used in a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, and medical manufacturing.

Choosing the Right Process

To choose the optimal process for a given project, we need to consider factors such as the part size and shape, material properties, production volume and timeline, and precision and surface finish requirements. By weighing these factors, we can select the process that will achieve the best balance of efficiency, precision, and cost-effectiveness for your project.

I do 2:1 as an electrician. I want to find a cheaper way to live than paying 350 a week for a room when I'm not there. I will put some of my stuff in storage. I also have a car. I'm young and single no dependants. I've heard some people mention hotels, there's a huge market for this thing, single FIFO people just wanting a room for a week consistently. 2024.05.14 05:16 TrueMetalSmiths Common Mistakes to Avoid During Designing Sheet Metal Parts

Common Mistakes to Avoid During Designing Sheet Metal Parts
Sheet metal fabrication is the process of creating parts and components by cutting, bending, and shaping sheets of metal. The design of sheet metal parts is crucial for their functionality, durability, and manufacturability. However, even experienced designers can make mistakes that can affect the quality and cost-effectiveness of sheet metal fabrication. In this blog, we will discuss some common mistakes to avoid during designing sheet metal parts.

Ignoring Manufacturing Constraints:

One of the most common mistakes in sheet metal design is ignoring manufacturing constraints. Sheet metal parts are made using various processes and equipment that have limitations and requirements that must be considered during design. For example, the thickness of the metal, the size of the bending radius, and the placement of holes and cutouts can affect the performance of the fabrication process.
Ignoring these constraints can result in parts that are difficult or impossible to manufacture. Therefore, it is essential to involve fabricators in the design process and to consider their expertise and feedback.

Not Understanding Material Properties:

Another common mistake is not understanding the material properties of the sheet metal used in the design. Sheet metal comes in different alloys and grades, each with its own mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties. These properties affect the behavior and performance of the parts in various conditions, such as temperature changes, corrosion, and stress.
Therefore, designers must select the right material for the application and consider its properties in the design. For example, using a low-grade metal for a high-stress application can result in deformation or failure of the part.

Inaccurate Measurements and Tolerances:

Accurate measurements and tolerances are crucial for the quality and precision of sheet metal parts. However, many designers make mistakes related to measurements and tolerances, such as not specifying them correctly, not considering the fabricator’s capabilities, or not verifying them during the manufacturing process.
As a result, parts can have incorrect dimensions, misaligned holes, or poor fit and finish. Therefore, designers must be familiar with the measurement units and standards, specify the tolerances clearly, and verify the dimensions during quality control.

Poor Design for Assembly:

Sheet metal parts are often used in assemblies that require multiple components to fit together seamlessly. However, poor design for assembly can lead to difficulties in assembling or disassembling the parts, or even compromising their functionality.
Common mistakes in assembly design include not considering the order of assembly, not providing clearance and access for fasteners, and not aligning mating surfaces properly. Therefore, designers must consider the assembly process as part of the design and ensure that the parts fit together precisely and efficiently.

Lack of Communication with Fabricators:

Finally, lack of communication between designers and fabricators can lead to misunderstandings, delays, and rework in the fabrication process. Designers must provide clear and detailed specifications and drawings that convey their intent and requirements accurately.
Fabricators, on the other hand, must communicate any issues or suggestions regarding the design, materials, or manufacturing process. Therefore, designers must establish a good working relationship with the fabricators and maintain open communication channels throughout the design and fabrication process.

5 Tips for Designing Sheet Metal Parts:

In addition to avoiding common mistakes, there are some best practices and tips that can help designers create better sheet metal parts. These tips include:
  • Keep it simple: Avoid unnecessary features, bends, and cuts that can increase the complexity and cost of the part.
  • Minimize material waste: Use the optimal sheet size and layout to reduce the amount of scrap and leftover material.
  • Use standard features: Utilize standard holes, cutouts, and bends to reduce the cost and lead time of tooling and setup.
  • Consider the aesthetics: Design parts that are visually appealing and consistent with the brand and product design.
  • Test and validate: Use simulation and prototyping tools to verify the performance and manufacturability of the design before production.

New Technologies and Trends in Sheet Metal Design:

The sheet metal fabrication industry is constantly evolving, and new technologies and trends emerge to improve the efficiency, quality, and sustainability of the process. Some of the latest developments in sheet metal design include:
Additive manufacturing: Using 3D printing and other additive technologies to create complex and customized sheet metal parts.
Automated nesting and cutting: Using AI-powered software to optimize the nesting and cutting of sheet metal parts and reduce material waste.
Lightweighting: Designing sheet metal parts that are lighter and more efficient by using advanced materials and geometries.
Sustainability: Designing sheet metal parts that are environmentally friendly and reduce the carbon footprint of the fabrication process.

2024.05.14 05:12 Hopeful_Access_9571 Married guy gets crushes on wife's friend and generally awkward around attractive women

I (40, married) am happily married. My wife recently made several new friends, all women, on Bumble. We recently moved, and she was looking to find new friends in our new town. She met a friend, who is also married, and we have all hung out regularly for the last two years.
We go out to dinner as a group all the time, we go to each other's houses for movie nights and dinners, we have gone camping together, go to baseball games, and so on. I am happy that my wife has friends who she enjoys spending time with.
What makes this all awkward for me is I have developed a crush on my wife's friend. After we all hang out, I am super anxious because I have just spent time around her. It takes me a day or two to unwind. If she happens to like something I post on social media, like a photo, it becomes the best thing that happened to me all day and it is all I think about.
This is part of a pattern in my life that I wish I could do without. I am a self conscious and introverted person, although I have developed the social skills over the years to mask that and appear talkative and friendly. Yet the skills I use to seem like a normalish person don't work when I am interacting with a woman I find attractive.
Instead, my awkwardness manifests itself: I scrutinize every thing I say, I get knots in my stomach, I tend to yap away even when I know I have no idea what I am talking about. And then for the days, weeks, and months (even years) after a conversation I replay it in my head and feel absolutely crushed by what I said even if objectively speaking much of it most likely was fine. If I have coffee with a female work colleague who I find attractive, like I did yesterday, I am an emotional wreck for at least the next 24 hours.
With regards to my wife's friend, I do not act on my feelings in anyway. If anything, I consciously try to limit how much I talk to her when we spend time together. I keep to a 70/30 rule: when we are all together, I talk to her husband 70% of the time, and to her 30% of the time, or thereabout. I am also good friends with her husband, who is someone I respect highly and genuinely enjoy being around.
Yet I feel bad for my wife to have a husband awkwardly developing crushes on her friends, even if know one will ever know.

2024.05.14 05:11 cr6634 My summer internship got cancelled last minute

For the past 7 months, I've been preparing for a summer marketing internship in Maine. It had everything I was looking for: housing, food, great location, and hourly pay on top of that. I actually started this internship early remotely a few weeks ago because the director needed some help with social media management.
But this morning, I got an email saying that not only is this season cancelled, but the entire company is shutting down. The email said it was due to personal unforeseen circumstances that happened this past weekend, but that was the final decision (There were no red flags where I could predict something like this happening, they've been successfully operating since 2019).
I don't think it's worth trying to speculate about what happened, but I'm just so shocked and disappointed. To make matters worse, I don't think I'll be getting reimbursed for my plane ticket. But, I was able to get around $300 of travel credit with American Airlines. So I guess I'm wondering what I should do now? I graduate college this semester, and my plan was to do this internship for the summer and then look into full-time work. But now I'm not sure if I should try to travel a little for the summer and then look in the fall, get another internship, or just get started with full-time work now. I've applied to a few different full-time positions just to see what my odds are in getting interviews. But I've been planning this for so long that I have no idea what my next step should be.

2024.05.14 05:11 DrinkDrain0 Been loving Edge, 2 weeks ago it is barely functional on some websites

Used Edge for a long time now because it's fast and RAM usage is acceptable. Not to mention all of the features of synchronous Windows functionality.
2 weeks ago it started slowing to a crawl when playing any videos (Youtube, embeds, vimeo, etc). The send tab to device function has ceased functioning. The password storing function has ceased to function, I assume its a loading error. I routinely have to close the browser via task manager because I can't click anything on the browser header.
I have no idea what happened. Chrome, Firefox and Opera work fine. No issues, slow downs, nothing. I've tried turning off enhanced security as recommended, I've cleared the cache, nothing works.
If you have experienced this as well and have a novel idea for me, let me know. Otherwise, it's literally any other browser for me.

Hello everyone I will try to make this really short. I was working with a property management and they fired 3 people including me too, I am living in one of their properties, I was transferring to another unit on the 9th. I put all my belongings, payed for this month and at that time the manager and the regional manager approved my transfer. On the 9th I got fired and they gave me this form telling me I have to leave by next month. I explained to her that I have an email from the regional manager stating that if I would get fired for no reason I can still live there they will just remove my discount. I haven’t heard anything back from them and I feel so distress because they haven’t sent me a lease. They were waiting for me to leave my other apartment to try to kick me out. Don’t know what to do. I pay my rent always on time, they are trying to basically make me homeless. I have emails, messages of them stating they are going to send me my lease but never did

i had to isolate from friends for months, people haven't known my status. people think it's weird that i went ghost. when you're broke it's god damn survival mode.
however, it's taken some time but slowly people have been engaging me for work and then all at once.
i'm not out of the clear yet but as someone in middle of career the learning here is that it is completely about your network of people and relationships. by age people your age around you often do have money and everyone is executing a strategy. you're old enough by your 30's to be able to manage something every level of the organization would throw at you.
don't give up.
i posted and i seriously have suspicions that there are foreign bots that are bombarding the ATS and this is why no one is getting any luck on cold applying. i have no other way to describe it based on the reporting i hear from so many people. but please don't let auto-rejections get you down and not even ghosting after a 1st round.. people all report it's brutal out there and there are wide reportings that it has been breaking down people's self-esteem.
you can go read all of my head trash in my post history lol.. it's quite bad by public standards, but none of your head trash matters. pay your bills, then worry about being an amenable person. i personally think if you show up and can do the job and you're qualified there's a civil function in society to give you that job or at least offer you ideas so you can support yourself.
in my case i had to be willing to work for free, almost 20% off my rate that i had when i freelanced in 2018 (non-adjusted for inflation!). the trick of working for free is that the next person asks what you're up to and you have a good sounding answer!
good luck don't give up hope

2024.05.14 05:05 MichaelfromKroger Writing Development Website/Program

Good evening y'all (it's 11 pm EST)
I'm currently a college student pursuing an IT degree and I was speaking with my father in law about an idea for a writing skills development program. The basis of the program/website is to teach students from Elementary school to the highschool and collegiate level on how to write essays. He posits that his students he has worked with do not have a good grasp on how to format their essays and papers, which then falls short in their future academic courses and he wants to make a program that will help them step by step.
My general layout right now is that it will be split into different levels of writing. From Levels 1 through 5: Elementary, Middle School, High School, College Prep, and Collegiate level writing skills. Within each level, I'll have writing tips and exercises to help the students learn the proper way to write their essays, with the Five Paragraph Essay as the format they will be learning.
Level 1: Sentence Structure, Formatting, and Composition. This includes things like spelling, capitalization, punctuation, etc.
Level 2: Adding in proper grammar, sentence continuation, paragraph structure, readability and comprehension, editing skills (rereading to make sure it is grammatically correct, has proper punctuation, sounds academically thought out, etc). We'll introduce how to write and connect multiple paragraphs as well as intro, body, and conclusion.
Level 3: Here we'll reinforce sentence structure for Intro, body, and conclusion paragraphs as well as citation and source material research. We'll start on how to properly write a Five paragraph essay with the hourglass/pyramid format (Broad introduction that gets more specific when it gets to the thesis sentence, body paragraphs with point evidence and example sentences, and then specific reintroduction of main points to a broad conclusion of the thesis). [I may have this in the Middle school Level 2 section as this is something I learned in middle school] We will also introduce different types of essays such as Argumentative, Systhesis, Compare and Contrast, Narrative, Persuasive, etc.
Level 4: In this level we will introduce the importance of rough draft, revise and polish, editing and formatting, and college entrance essays and college application questions. This section will mostly be open to Junior (11th) and Senior (12th) grade students who are preparing for their academic life outside of Highschool. We will also be introducing how to write cover letters, resumes, and exploring the other side of life outside of High school.
Level 5: Collegiate level writing will focus on precision writing, using the fewest words necessary to accurately convey an idea. Objectivity, using accurate, clear and relevant information. Logical Structure, using precise word choice and structure. Researching, Formatting, time management, and consistence and conciseness. We will also go back to resume and cover letter writing for those who are looking for a career after a degree. We will be adding a section to help students with term paper writing as well as advancement (Masters and Doctorate level) writing.
I wanted to reach out to former, current, and aspiring English Teachers to ask for feedback on this idea. Is this something that you would use in your class as a teaching tool for your students? What can be done for this to be implemented in your classes if this website/program gets published? What things should be added, removed, improved, or changed in the current idea to make it go alongside the current English course curriculum in your school district? What else should be included to facilitate user interaction with this website?
Please give me as much feedback as you can think of, whether that is directly on this post or in a direct message. My hope and goal is to be able to develop the future generation and to move away from using AI as a writing tool because it takes away the practical skills that is severely lacking in some, if not most, of the students today.
