Hi everyone,
I’m an adult skater who started skating around 5 months ago and I’m having a hard time when I try to do backward edges on a circle. I can hold the outside ones for like 2-3 seconds max, the inside ones for longer but they don’t feel as stable as forwards, I guess fear is also a problem. If I do a waltz jump or exit a spin or a turn I feel like the outside edge comes more naturally and if I extend my leg back in landing position it feels easier and I can hold it longer. I feel a bit discouraged as I look around and it seems like most people glide easily on one leg backwards after they learn it forwards and most people seem to take a lot less time to get comfortable with being on one leg backwards.
Has anyone been through this in their skating journey and has some suggestions with exercises that could help? Like drills I can do Just as a note my balance off ice is actually really good, I practice with a bosu ball all the time, so I don’t think that’s the problem.

All I knew for sure is that they are extracting certain materials from them, then synthesizing them with some other shit, creating some sort of drug. Whether it then becomes a bio-weapon or a dick stimulant, I do not know. Neither do I care. As long as they kept the hundies coming, I was good.

Now, while Anna is of Russian descent, she is a freelancer. She will work for any sick, skeevy motherfucker out there. She does not care. She has no conscience, at least not in the traditional sense as we understand it in western civilization. Today she is working for the Chinese, and tomorrow she may be working for Hamas. She is a slippery motherfucker.

So here is how it went down. At 11:32 p.m. on a Friday in September of last year I get a call on my cell phone. When the call came in I was balls deep into this hot little lass I picked up at the bus station a little earlier in the evening from an old swarthy chap named “Colorado Joe”. Something was bad fucked up!! I know for a fact that Sergio never brings anyone with him on a deal, at least not with me. He is too distrustful of people to do that, and too fucking mean to need protection. Something was wrong. I was just as likely to get whacked when I enter Lou’s office as anything else. I needed a moment to think things through.

Suddenly, Anna snapped me out of my thoughts. “Here’s your gun, Rod. Now let’s get started”, said Anna. She and Sergio were halfway through the door exiting Lou’s office when I said, “Hey, wait a damned minute!!! What are you talking about?!?”

They both stopped, and Anna walked back in and looked me in the eyes, saying “The plan, Rod. Let’s get on with the plan.” A little embarrassed, I sheepishly asked, “What plan?” Anna folded her arms and looked cross at me. After a moment to allow me to simmer in my shame, she asked, “You were not paying attention, were you, Rod?” I shook my head and looked down.

I heard a hammer cock. I jerked my head back up to find myself staring down the barrel of a pistol pointed at my head that Anna was holding. I protested, “Look, it is not my fucking fault!! Anna Conda was now working for the Russians. It seems that Putin caught wind of the Sasquatch project that the Chinese were working on. He also knew that the American government have been fucking with sasquatch for decades. Thus, he was very concerned about the existence of a bigfoot gap. He ordered the acquisition of a Sasquatch specimen immediately.

Moreover, said specimen must be prime. It needed to be the biggest, baddest sasquatch of them all – a true alpha – so as to speed things along. Putin did not want some weird shit-creature, is-it-a-sasquatch-or-is-it-a-dogman, kind of monstrosity. He wanted purebred, badass sasquatchery, and preferably from the American Pacific northwest.

Anna got in on it because she sold the intel to Putin about China’s Sasquatch operation. She then told Putin she could produce sasquatch corpses for him. She told him she had a contact (i.e., me). Thus, with Putin’s blessing and promises of riches to come, Anna set out to America to find me.

Now, here is where things got a bit squirrely. See, I agreed to procure some more dead sasquatch. I have no problem with killing sasquatch because, in my opinion, they are an abomination on this Earth. I kind of feel like I am doing God’s work by wiping out as many of them as I can. And given all the not-so-Godly stuff I have done, I feel like killing Sasquatch kind of offsets that to some degree.

But Anna, she was stuck on Putin’s instruction that she must supply him with apex Sasquatch. So she did not want to take my advice of heading to the Pacific Northwest or Alaska. Instead, Anna claimed to have pinpointed the whereabouts of a particularly gruesome sasquatch beast that she KNEW would win her a fortune from Putin if she brought it to him.

“So, where is this beast?”, I asked. Anna replied “Martha’s Vineyard”. I paused. Then I asked her to repeat herself. It turns out that I was not mistaken about what Anna had said. I continued, “Uh, Anna, there are no sasquatch on Martha’s Vineyard, just a lot of wealth New Englander schmucks.”

Anna looked at me and told me I was wrong. Then she decided to attempt to taunt me. “Oh, Rod, mighty slayer of Bigfoot! Yet, you fail to take notice of where the biggest, most foul and rotten beast of them all makes its home. Jesus, Rod!! What kind of bigfoot hunter are you, anyway?” Anna then spit at my feet and wondered aloud whether she even needs me for this job.

I decided that I needed to straighten out the hierarchy here in order for this here deal to move forward. I said, “Well, Anna, feel free to truck on over to Old Whitey Beach and battle that beast. But, if there is a big old mangy sasquatch lurking around over there, then it is probably a fucking Nazi-Squatch. You know, those fuckers out there hate the Jews.”

The work “Nazi” visibly shook Anna. Her great grandfather died defending Leningrad. Her entire family there died of either starvation or cannibalism during Hitler’s siege during Operation Barbarossa. Anna despised Nazis. But she feared them too. After landing that punch, I decided to push my luck.

“Now, I am still willing to help you catch this here Nazi-Squatch, but you have to do something for me”, I said. Now Anna’s eyes were on me, and they were narrowing. I continued, “I want you to get bare assed naked and pleasure yourself while I stand over you and jack it.” Anna stared at me silently for a long moment. Then she replied.

“After the job is done, and you can get none of your … fluids… on me”, she said. I shook my head and countered, “Now, and I will ‘try’ to not get my spunk on you.”

However, Anna then turned the tables on me. In fact, she picked up the table and bashed my head in with it. She looked me in my eyes, then matter-of-factly said, “You get the beast, and your prize shall be a night with me, anything goes, darling.” Well, since this caused all of the blood to immediately drain from my brain, I had a lapse in judgment. “DEAL!!”, I said. Then we shook on it.

“OK, tell me more about this supposed monster sasquatch on Martha’s Vineyard”, I said. I still was not ready to believe there was a monster out there. “I show you photo”, said Anna. She took out her phone, scrolled to find the photo, then handed the phone to me. “There. Sasquatch”, she said.

I stared at the photo and remained silent. After a long moment, I turned the phone so that Anna could see the photo and asked, “Uh, Anna, is THIS what you intended to show me?” She replied. “Yes! There…Sasquatch! The biggest, grossest monster around.”

Now, I could not argue with Anna that the image on her phone is a big, gross monster. Hell, it could actually be a sasquatch, and THE UBER sasquatch. It is most certainly the grossest thing on Martha’s Vinyard. But I somehow do not think this is what Putin is expecting.

I turned to Anna and said, “Anna, this is a photo of Michelle Obama. I know it looks vile, and has a huge, hulking body with large appendages where a woman should not have them. But, sweatheart, that ain’t no sasquatch. That’s a big, hairy Chicago street negro.”

Anna did not believe me at first. She was hard in her conviction that Obama was a sasquatch. “I have seen the Sasquatch beast you deliver to me for China. This … Michelle Obama …. It is big, and hairy, and ugly like the sasquatch beast, but worse.”

When the truth finally set it, I could see that it had kind of broken down poor Anna, if only just a bit. I put my arm around Anna and told her, “Look, Michelle O fooled you. Hell, she and her Hamas Hubby fooled millions of Americans, twice! At least you saw Michelle for what she is, to wit: a big, gross sasquatch, and NOT some kind a retarded leftist messiah.”

After that, things took a rather dark turn. “What if we still take her to Putin? We can make deal; sell her to Putin!!” At this point I held up my hands and said, “I’m out”, then turned and walked away. Anna followed, trying to get me to stay. At this point, I could tell that Anna was coming undone a little.

See, she had to produce for Putin. There is no telling what kind of secret deal she actually had with him. She had to deliver a big old mangy Obama …. Er, uh, I mean … Sasquatch, to Putin.

“Ok, Rod, we do your plan. We go out west to kill bigfoot. Huge, monster bigfoot. she said. I turned and looked Anna in her eyes and said the following: First, we bang for 48 hours straight, right now, so I can get my fill of you. Second, you pay me $10,000.00 cash upfront. Third, upon delivery of the dead bigfoot, you pay me $1 million immediately.”

Anna agreed to everything, but noted that at the present time it was her “time of the month”. I grimaced, as I will absolutely not go there (and she knows that). “Fine, next week we bang”, I said. She pointed out that I would be in the woods next week hunting sasquatch. “Fine, once I come out of the woods, then we bang – 48 hours straight”, I said. “Of course, darling!”, she agreed.

Well, it took several days to set up the hunt, but it finally happened. I was in Washington state at high elevation based on intel I has acquired that indicated that there was a monstrous 15’ tall sasquatch on the mountain range that had been murdering and eating hunters and hikers. After 3 months in these mountains without a trace of the creature I began to lose hope, thinking that I probably got some bad intel, or bad coordinates.

I got my satellite phone out to call for an extraction. Winter was setting in fast, and if I did not get off this mountain soon, then I would freeze and/or starve to death. Unfortunately, my contact did not answer. I tried for 2 days. No answer. I had been fucked. I wondered what had happened back in civilization that caused me to be abandoned like this. I resolved that I would get off that mountain and get to the bottom of this shit. There would be hell to pay for this betrayal!!’

I was able to get in touch with contacts from back home. I got old Billy Ray from Ellijay and Rattler on the phone and got them to come out here to Washington State to extract me. Rattler use to fly helicopters in the Army. He has an old Huey sitting in his front yard, to the chagrin of his HOA. He fired that sucker up, and him and old Billy Ray flew out here to my coordinates and extracted me.

After landing at a convenience store to buy some beer for the flight home, we headed east. Through the skies a way, Billy Ray said, “Well, Rod, I guess you is bout ready to git back home to Georgia, eh?” In fact, I was ready to go home. But I had to take care of some business first. I told them both to take me to New York City. They were both perplexed. All I said to them was “I have an old friend there I have to see before I can go home.”

I have intel on where Anna Conda stays when she is in the United States. She stays at certain hotels depending on what month she is here, and whether her check-in date is an odd or even number. This is for undercover work. I came across the code for her stays while doing the sasquatch work for China. She an I were caught in a snowstorm one night in Buffalo, NY, and had to share a room at the Holiday Inn near the airport. We had like 10 big Igloo ice chests with iced down sasquatch body parts with us in the room.

Anna was like, “No hanky panky, Rod. I am tired and I want to go to bed. Tomorrow we finish business.”

Frankly, I did not blame her for withholding her magnificent muff from me. I was tired as hell. But, I could not settle for nothing. So, when Anna was in the bathroom taking a shower, I started going through her suit case. I wanted to find some of her panties to jack off into. Instead, I found a little black notebook. Inside it contained her lodging codes, and some other interesting things. I photographed the contents with my phone and then put it back.

We had to stop several times for fuel and beer. Those Hueys go just a bit over a hundred MPH, you know. But eventually, we got there. I gave the boys some money and told them to go to the Waffle House for some coffee to sober up. Then they would fly me home.

I should mention that I also had Rattler’s fully auto Russian AK-74 with spare mags. During the long flight with 2 drunks from Washington State to New York City, I had worked myself up into a towering rage over how Anna fucked me on this Putin deal. She had clearly thrown me aside. But for what, exactly? I figured I would storm the hotel room, get some answers, then shower the room with gun fire.

I busted through the door of Room 355 at exactly 3:35 a.m. There she was. My entry roused her from slumber. I was pointing my rifle at her, center mass. She was shocked at the appearance of a gunman in her room at this time of night. However, she was not as shocked as one would think (this was not the first time something like this has happened to her).

I raised my face from the receiver just enough so she could see it was me. “Rod!!!”, she exclaimed. “What happened to you?!?!? I thought you had died up in those mountains when we never hear from you!” I replied, “Shove it up that cute little ass of yours, Anna. You fucked me. And not in the good way. What the fuck was all that shit about needing a sasquatch for Putin?!?”

Anna played dumb. But it struck me that I had been deliberately put out of the loop for 3 months. Why? Who wanted me away for that long, and why? What went on in my absence?!? I was just dying to know!!! I set my rifle down and pulled out my fixed blade knife, ready to get down to some real nasty work on Anna so I could get some truth. The pure evil of what I was about to do to her caused a wide death grin to grow on my face. Anna saw it. She knew what it meant. She swallowed hard and her eyes betrayed the shear terror she felt inside. I was engorged with blood lust. She knew she had fucked up one time too many this time!!

Suddenly came the sound of the toilet in the bathroom flushing. I was momentarily shocked. I did not expect anyone else to be there with Anna. Anna saw it in my face. I glanced at her and saw that the terror in her face was replaced with pleasure, a slight smile creeping over her face.

I was going to have to face off against this person in the bathroom, who would be out in a split moment. When I do that, I will have to turn 180 degrees from Anna, thereby making me vulnerable to her. I had only once choice: Shoot Anna first.

Just as this came to me, but just before I could act on it, the bathroom door opened. I had to deal with that person before Anna now. I spun around to see that it was a completely nude, and fat, white man. He was a real oafish blob. He looked surprised to see me. He also looked sort of familiar.

I next heard the crack of something hitting my skull hard. I remember the immediate hateful pain that shot through my body and the sound of blood rushing through my ears. I remember the dizziness, then falling to the floor. Clearly, as I fixed on the man from the bathroom, Anna had cracked me over the head with a blunt object.

I came to the next morning, Billy Ray and Rattler had manage to track me down based upon coordinates I left in the chopper that said “IN CASE OF EMERGENCY”. Billy Ray filled up the hotel room ice bucket with cold water and doused my head with it to bring me conscious. I was disoriented at first. But after a bit, what happened in this room the night before came back to me.

Honestly, I am surprised that Anna did not just kill me. I presume that she thinks she can leverage her drop-dead hotness to get me to do more shit for her in the future. She is absolutely right about that too. Rattler then said, “Hey, Rod, that snake bitch left a letter fer ya.”

He handed me the letter. This is what it said:

I could not fucking believe it. That was fatfuck Moneymaker in the hotel room earlier. Anna fucked Matt Fatfuck Moneymaker for a Sasquatch! That fat son of bitch!!

I felt like I wanted to die. Thank God for beer and buddies. I don’t blame Anna. She is a fucking snake, and I knew that before this started. Also, I cannot really blame fatfuck Moneymaker for wanting to get some of that hot poon pie Anna serves up. I guess I have to blame fate for fucking me over this time. I even started thinking that next time I will just avoid Anna. But I know I won’t, thus making me subject to this sort of shit again. I had Rattler set us down in Charlottesville so I could buy some hard liquor.

Hello, I am a beginner-ish skater that's been having problems with my blades/edges. Basically, my edges skid out when doing certain maneuvers that involve me getting ‘deep’ onto my outside edge. Deep in quotes cause I'm not always that deep. It will skid on things like basic consecutive edges or if I try to go deep or the last half second as I go for a waltz jump or as my circle gets tighter as I set up for an upright spin from backwards crossovers. My inside edges don't seem to have as much of a problem, I think I've only noticed them skid as I try to do a hydroblade, but that doesn’t always happen and I bet poor technique plays a part of that as i'm still trying to learn how to do them properly.
I skate on the basic aspire xp blades that come with Jackson freestyles with 7/16ths hollow. I’ve had this problem for a while, throughout several sharpenings. Last time I got them sharpened after explaining this problem to the skate tech, they felt good for maybe an hour at most, then they started skidding again. A bit before taking them to get sharpened I took them in and spoke to the owner of the skate shop for sharpening and he said that they looked good and probably didn't need any sharpening. The next time I skated my outside edges felt completely non-existent on fresh freestyle ice.
I could go up to 3/8ths but that seems a little extreme for my level. And going down to 1/2 would make the problems worse no? Could my blades be messed up? Maybe I over sharpened them? A friend thinks maybe the mounting could be an issue but I don't think I have any other signs of bad mounting. It could be exaggerated by bad technique? Maybe I need better blades? When I spoke to a coach about this issue they said I might need new blades. I wanted better blades but I was hoping to wait a bit longer to save up some money as right now I'm broke and can't afford new blades. I'd also have to wait for the blades to arrive anyway with any delays.
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be or how to fix?

Because I can't.
Without too much detail I'm new to ice hockey this year. I came from roller hockey. There is a 20 year gap between these. For all intents, I'm older and new to ice.
I'm a decent skater, some things did translate from roller to ice...cross overs, backwards transitions, even hard punch turns...all similar despite the convex nature of wheels vs concave blades.
I could stop on my online hockey skates either by utilizing a hockey stop or dragging my trailing foot perpendicular. Here's where the rubber meets the road....it's now ice, there's no real friction I guess is what I'm looking for. When I try to hockey stop, even at very slow speed on ice, I'm either dug in WAY too hard and with my heels (I know) or I just end up doing a very oddly ungraceful spin.
In my brain I know how this is supposed to work, physically I'm capable of pulling it off, but when the time comes I just can't. How did you learn to hockey stop? I can't be the only skater that has these particular 'yips' as it were.

I'm a new skater. Today is my second day skating in about 10 years (I'm 28). I felt a shock go up my entire back. My back feels stiff and sore. After a break, I continued skating for another hour but ended up taking a lot of breaks and left a bit early. I plan to ice and use ibuprofen.
Any tips of what I should or shouldn't do, and how to not let my fear of pain/injury prevent my progress?
Unfortunately, I was wearing great knee/elbow/wrist pads, but that of course didn't help my tailbone/back.
Thank you for any tips or support from such a great community! (I also am unfortunately feeling a bit deflated because a fellow skater on the rink was unnecessarily rude to me. I'm trying to not let it get to me.)

The season is over! Looking into next season (the pre-Olympic season), some fan favorites will be guaranteed Grand Prix spots, while others might miss out.
Starting off, the top 10 at Worlds are each guaranteed two Grand Prix spots each. These teams are:

6. Reed/Ambrulevicius
7. Carreira/Ponomarenko
8. Lopareva/Brissaud

The top 6 teams are seeded, meaning that the top 3 teams won't face each other directly at any of the Grand Prix events, and they will only face 1 other team in the top 6 at each of their Grand Prix events.
Moving out, the ISU states that teams in the top 24 season's best list and the top 24 in the world standing's list will also be guaranteed at least 1 spot. The current World Standing's list includes world standings points earned in the 2021/22 season, but once the list is reset, those points will be removed and the points from the 2022/23 season will be scaled to 70% of their value. Once the world standings gets reset, it will look like this (someone correct my math if it's incorrect).

The teams that are only on the season's best list are:

• Smart/Dieck (24th)

The teams that are only on the world standing's list are:

• Pinchuk/Pogorielov (18th)
• Van Rensburg/Steffan (19th)
• Orihara/Pirinen (21st)
• Neset/Markelov (22nd)
• Fradji/Fourneaux (23rd)

The medalists at Junior Worlds will also be considered for Grand Prix spots, the three medalists are:

• Neset/Markelov
• Tkachenko/Kiliakov
• Grimm/Savitskiy

Of these three teams, Neset/Markelov will almost certainly go senior, and Tkachenko/Kiliakov mentioned in an interview that they plan on going senior. Grimm/Savitskiy are almost certainly staying junior. Neset/Markelov will almost certainly get 2 Grand Prix assignments at the reigning Junior World Champions. Tkachenko/Kiliakov can be penciled in for at least 1 assignment.
There are 19 teams which are guaranteed two spots each (top 10 + 8 teams on both lists + N/M), which equates to 38 spots. After that, teams which high season's best scores are prioritized. I would be very surprised if Davis/Smolkin, Brown/Brown, and Bratti/Somerville didn't get 2 Grand Prix spots considering their high season's best scores. That then leads to 22 teams with 2 assignments and 44 spots. The remaining team (Smart/Dieck) on the season's best list will get 1 spot to start, leading to 45 spots being filled.
After that, Pinchuk/Pogorielov, Van Rensburg/Steffan, and Orihara/Pirinen will probably get 1 spot each, which then leads to 48 spots out of the 60 being filled. Neset/Markelov have already been included in the list and Fradji/Fourneaux are unlikely to go senior. Adding in one spot for Tkachenko/Kiliakov leads 49/60 spots in use.
The ISU also carves out rules around returning skaters who have previously been seeded (placing top 6 at Worlds) to guarantee them two Grand Prix assignments. This rule would apply to Papadakis/Cizeron (if they choose to return). However, a Papadakis/Cizeron return has looked more unlikely in recent months. If the Russian ban is lifted, this rule could also theoretically apply to Stepanova/Bukin. However, Stepanova/Bukin would likely have a pretty hard time appearing as politically neutral athletes because they have attended several war-related events where Putin was present, and are sanctioned by Ukraine.
The 11 remaining spots will likely be host picks.

• Skate America: 1 spot (Wolfkostin/Tsarevski or Flores/Desyatov)
• Skate Canada: 2 spots (Fabbri/Ayer and ?)
• GP France: 2 spots (Dupayage/Nabais and ?)
• NHK Trophy: 2 spots (Tanaka/Nishiyama and Yoshida/Morita)
• GP Espoo: 1 spot (Orihara/Pirinen)
• Cup of China: 3 spots (???)

USFS typically reserves 1 host spot, which will likely be fiercely fought over between Flores/Desyatov and Wolfkostin/Tsarevski. Skate Canada had 2 host spots last year. One of those will almost certainly go to Fabbri/Ayer as the highest placing team at Canadian Nationals who won't get guaranteed Grand Prix spots. The other will be very up in the air, and will probably be decided at a summer competition. FFSG will use either 1 or 2, with one of those spots all but guaranteed to go to Dupayage/Nabais. Finland will use 1 host spot for Orihara/Pirinen to give them their second assignment. China used all of their host spots last year, and I would expect them to use all of their spots again. However, Chinese ice dance is currently a mess of splits and new teams, so who knows which 3 teams will be showing up at Cup of China. Despite the retirement of KoKo, Japan still have 2 ice dance teams who will likely be in fierce competition for the one Worlds spot.
Accounting for all these host spots leaves exactly 60/60 spots. Of course, this is still subject to change. My original draft of this post included Kazkova/Revia and KoKo, but KR have split and KoKo have retired. Any retirements or splits could give opportunities for Grand Prix spots that otherwise weren't available.
Here are some very, very preliminary Grand Prix predictions, mostly accounting for the seeded teams and host spots. The teams in italics are almost 100% guaranteed to be at the specified Grand Prix, while the others are more of an educated guess on my part. These are not complete rosters, since the teams in the ice dance midpack are kinda interchangeable as far as Grand Prix assignments go, with the only caveat of max 3 teams per country at each event (really only applicable to USFS and host nations)

I’m just crying. For 3 weeks now it’s been brutal hell on the ice. I just got new skates (Edea -> Grafs) I don’t regret my new skates at all. I love them. My coach sees how much better I am with them, and I agree. I just feel I’m still adjusting.
Anyhow. I have a lot of limiting beliefs to work on again, to flush out my system. I was in a very abusive relationship when I quit skating for 1.5 years.
I had to start over technique wise at 18. My new coach really worked hard with me. Eventually I cleaned up my technique and got my doubles I 4 months and axel. I quitted right before getting all my doubles solid.
The break came and I was very depressed. I was 98lbs. My ex and his family didn’t believe in skating so i quit for them so I’d be accepted (dumb on my part).
Went back to skating in 2020 but I lost all my muscle and strength and power. It took a lot of work to regain it.
Anyhow - since then, I’ve always had the belief “I can’t learn anymore, I’m incapable. I’m stupid. It’s too late to unlearn and relearn.”
I kept working hard to change that belief. 4 years later, we start working on triple sal and toe/ double axel. Something I always knew I could get to (but also had doubts). But it’s like now that I’m actually working on it …. I’m starting to self-sabotage myself.
I hold resentment that I quit for almost 2 years and had to relearn it all (which is fine, but I resent the new mindset I came back with: lack of confidence), I hold resentment that I never left my old coach to begin with, because he didn’t teach the correct technique (like how to rotate). There were skaters/coaches who noticed and whom I worked with at the rink, but didn’t bother to even suggest to me. I came to realization on my own. I just resent that no one said anything or suggested. Like, so much time was wasted. Looking back I feel so humiliated in skating.. when I was seeing a new coach in the summer of 2014, I had no phone then working on me, there was traffic due to an accident. I was so excited to start with this new coach. I get there and I was 10 minutes late. I was rushing and apologized. She didn’t even bother to look at my face until I approached her to tell her I’m ready. She yelled at me saying I was wasting her time and I explained what happened. She didn’t care nor believe me. She yelled at me and all the skaters were looking at me. I was crying. I just continue to practice, and I got off because I was so angry.
In Florida, I got kicked off the rink because I wasn’t landing my doubles so they moved me to the lower level freestyle (which is fine and smart move looking back… but it just felt sooooo humiliating). I was 16.
I resent that I feel like an outcast as a skater. In fact, I felt like I could never call myself a “figure skater” until recently. I actually have no skating friends, and it just feels so isolating. I see everyone striking up conversations and have skating group chats, joking with each other, but I’m just alone. I have ADHD/ASD. I’m very ashamed of my ASD. My whole life I held the belief that I’m not capable of being social / funny. So I never know how to respond a jokes. Instead I just make a fool of myself. I’m 26, and nearly half the skaters are 10years old to 18. So I feel like I can’t make friends because that will be creepy lol.
I do go to one adult freestyle, but I just freeze and get terrified. I have truly no idea how to make friends in skating or build the support system, the only support system I got is my coach and technician and my wonderful partner.
Here are my goals I want to change mentally:
1) I want to stop telling myself I’m unworthy or incapable of learning: everytime I am at a new rink, freestyle full of people, and seeing people work on triples, it’s like alllllllll my skating skills flush out my brain. I start popping my doubles and even singles. I look like I genuinely cannot skate. Because at some point for 10 years, yes, other coaches and skaters would talk about how bad my technique and other skaters were with the coach I had. So it’s embarrassing. It’s like that belief system gets reactivated into my body emotionally. So I start to feel that
“They think I’m trying too hard. They think I’m unworthy. They think I’m bad. They think I’m a fraud.” — I’m trying to let go of this. Something that recently hit me was, even the best in the world: people will still judge you. I can’t control that. But it just feels so personal.
When in high school I had bad experience at this one rink with my old coach. My technique clearly sucked, but because I sucked, I got treated poorly there. So therefore it’s like I believed I’m not worthy.
At that old rink I collided with a skater and since then, it’s like PTSD. I am constantly moving out of skaters way , not trusting myself that I won’t see them. Even though they’ll move for me, it’s a lack of trust on my end. And it waste so much time.
I just notice every time I am at a new rink, or with skaters I’m not with consistently… my body goes into freeze mode, and so does my brain. And the old belief system manifests into my skating.
I’m seeing a therapist, but looking to see a specialist soon. For reference, I’m not quitting - I don’t want to, I’d regret that so hard. I am going away for 3 weeks so I will enjoy that break and do off ice or strength. Or just enjoy it and come back with a fresh perspective to continue. Because I really want to. I just want to get through this mental slump.

I skate 4-5 days a week, and off ice 4 days a week in addition to physical 2x. Thankfully I have a job that allows me to dedicated a lot of time to this sport. I am noticing a self sabotage in my job too… finally got my dream job and I’m seriously self doubting myself in my work as well.

Howdy.
Long story short. Time for some new skates. Ive gone from Bauer Nexus 1n skates, to Supreme 3S pro skates, to Bauer Nexus 2ns in the past few years. Ive got a wide foot. Anyhow, my bauer skates fit decently but my skates are breaking down fairly quickly and I was hopign to take advantage of some year end sales.
My local hockey shop has the AS-V pro's on sale. I tried them on and they feel great, and would expect that to only get better after baking. The high end Bauer skates are still over 1k so thats out of my budget but the AS-V pro's are on a really nice sale.
The issue/question!? They fit great in the store, but I keep reading about the stiffness. that is one thing you cant really test out in the store. I am 6'2 and 230 lbs. Decent skater and I play in the upper end rec leagues, but nothing elite. Could the stiff boot be an issue?!? Does it break in over time?!? Is there a reason why these skates were not a great seller?!?
Id love a top end skate, and they fit good in the store for my wider foot, but I am worried I would have regrets if I am on the ice and do not adapt to the boot or find it painful.

While on a treasure hunt—high stakes to be specific—I discovered the defaced grave to the north of Barrow Lagoon with a dilapidated cabin close by.
If you inspect the grave, Arthur will sketch out the grave and it’s skeletal occupant. But, he leaves out a crucial detail: the actual defacement of the grave which wasn’t the unnamed grave robber digging up the casket, but was actually the painting of these rather unsettling words on the tombstone: “NO ICE IN HELL.”
If you go into the nearby cabin, you’ll find a newspaper saying that a famous ice skater’s career was ended short due to his right leg being cut off. You can tell this because the skeleton outside is missing his right femur.
You can find his skates on a table inside the cabin and a cigarette card on the same one, from which we learn his name: Felix Hawley, The Red Rocket.
The graffiti on his grave outside was most likely done by a rival of his, but the identity of the grave robber was never disclosed.

Hello, same as I said in the topic, I'm also a new skater.
When I bend my knees off the ice, they are normal, but when I bend my knees on the ice, they become 'knock knees' for no reason. How can I deal with this?
