2024.05.15 07:38 Gianna_96 Praying to Archangels questiony?

Hopefully this isnt a dumb question-So when I pray to my spiritual team (God,my ancestors, my guides and my angels) I usually include a "thank you for your protection, I love you." In my prayer or sometimes whenever i talk to them during the day, The same way id say "i love you" to my family members. So I've been doing more research on Archangel Michael and I've been asking him for protection. As I was praying i was telling him how much I appreciate him and thanked him for his energy and protection and for all of his help. I added in a "Thanks, love ya" at the end of my prayer of gratitude without even thinking. I'm still doing research on archangels but I was wondering...is that something that's okay to say to them? Or do they not mind it? Lol thanks.

2024.05.15 05:07 SuperGoody [14.10] Zoe Reroll Guide - Is she OP or Balanced?

Intro

Hello, I'm Goody. I make TFT content on YouTube, Twitch, and occassionally Reddit.

This time I'm here to discuss Zoe Reroll, a comp that has caused a little bit of a stir on the PBE due to her buffs in 14.10

I honestly think Zoe is insanely OP now (I mean just watch this clip I posted a few days ago).

But there are those that say Zoe is a terrible unit

The most prominent of which is Mortdog who said "Stop playing Zoe. She's not good. Despite the buff even"
(VOD Timestamp of this here)

Challenger Zoe One-Trick: LIGhtYgo

I've been playing a lot of Zoe Reroll on the PBE, but recently in my stream CuLe TV told me about a Challenger on the Japanese server who one-tricks Zoe Reroll called LIGhtYgo. His lolchess page is here if you want to read it
And coincidentally, I've been playing the same comp they play amongst others that I'll share with you today

TLDR:

If you want a TLDR, this timestamped section should cover that

VIDEO FORM

(The video also has Spanish and Vietnamese Subtitles)
Disclaimer: I tested these comps on the PBE and I have not played them in ranked. For transparency, here is my lolchess
And my Exalted only account here
(Highly recommend trying this btw, it's very fun)
But let's get started!

Ghoe Reroll (Ghostly Zoe)

So let's start with what LIGhtYgo plays which is this comp here
(Teambuilder here)
I couldn't find any VODs to link from LIGhtYgo but here's some of my gameplay of this comp on the PBE
From looking at their match history, LIGhtYgo tends to reroll Shen + Zyra or Zoe + Illaoi (1 tank + 1 carry) but sometimes they manage to 3 star everything alongside Aatrox.

Give Zoe Shiv

LIGhtYgo also frequently itemises Zoe with Statikk Shiv, 3 star or otherwise, to stack Zoe's passive as much as possible.
Passive: Kills increase the number of ricochets by 1 for the rest of combat.
Now, I should mention that Zoe's tooltip here is misleading and frankly incorrect. Zoe gains more ricochets if she participates in a kill, also known as takedowns.
And that is why Statikk Shiv is so phenomenal for Zoe. Not only is she reducing the MR of enemy units (helps Ghostly and your Magic Damage Dealers) but the damage from Shiv will give Zoe takedown credit once those enemy units perish.
So, even with just a Shiv and at 2 star, Zoe can be very impactful as her passive continues to easily stack.
Thus Zoe has great synergy with other AP carries like Zyra, Morgana, Teemo, Alune etc as they soften enemy units for each other to clean up.
And so Zoe is an incredible secondary carry as she needs very little to come online
You can infer this from LIGhtYgo's match history as they tend to succeed more when Zoe isn't their primary carry but rather secondary.
Although the buff to Zoe in 14.10 should change that, especially combined with the buffs to Ghostly, Warden, Aatrox, Behemoth and Jax.

Zoe's Weaknesses

From my games, I've felt Zoe has 2 main weaknesses
  • Firstly, she can struggle into tanky frontliners as it'll take her more time to stack her passive.
  • Secondly, Zoe can lose 1v1s as her ult will no longer ricochet (no targets left to bounce to)
These weaknesses can make Zoe feel very binary: - she either gets 3/4 takedowns and nukes - or she gets stuck, gets no passive stacks, and does nothing

Spooky Solution

But that’s why Ghostly can provide so much value to Zoe.
Those Spectres will help Zoe get through tanks and once they're concentrated, Zoe's single target will nuke which even allows her to win those 1v1s

Problems with Ghoe Reroll

From what I tried on the PBE, I did find this comp to be very powerful at level 9. However it could be a struggle getting there as you also need to reroll Zoe who can be contested by Fortune, Arcanist, and Storyweaver players

Is it a Player Diff?

I also find there to be a really odd tempo where I need to find Zoe 3 but also hit level 9 to find Udyr. I did learn later that you don't really need to 3 star Zoe to get to 9, and it's certainly not impossible to hit Zoe 3 at level 9.
Although, it seems that LIGhtYgo resolves this problem by keeping the option of Zyra Reroll open. (They play boards akin to this one occasionally)
Also, sometimes the Inkshadow item doesn't tend to be that useful, especially if it's Tattoo of Bombardment, as you don't have an AD carry.
Lastly, the position of the Ghostly units is really important so the Spectres concentrate onto Zoe's target(s). This can be really awkward if your primary Ghostly tank has a Stoneplate.
I have lost games because I moved Zoe away from my Ghostly units last second :(
But by far the biggest problem I have found is how much better the comp becomes at 9 than level 8. I personally find rerolling at level 8 to be the easiest to find 3 star Illaoi, Zoe, and Galio 2 whilst also being able to field 8 units which enable many important synergies.
Essentially, I don't like rerolling at either 7 or 8 with this comp. So I decided to comp up with a new comp to address this problem which is Altruist Arcanist.

4 Arcanist 3 Altruist Zoe Reroll

So here's a new variant of Zoe Reroll that has an incredibly strong level 8 (you play Rakan at 9) that gives you more time to reroll and find Zoe 3. This makes this comp so much easier to play and in turn, I have had so much more success with this variation particularly.
Teambuilder here
[Here's the full game from that clip with this comp]
This board also has a primary tank option between Amumu or Illaoi so you can play around whichever you manage to 3 star.
Although your secondary carry here is Lux who also holds your utility items like Morello and Shiv.

The Lissandra Nerfs really hurt...

Honestly, this may be extreme bias due to a bad few games, but I find a Lux 2 to be more reliable than post-nerf Lissandra. Lux feels like she needs a lot less to function better as she CC's more units, usually targets and slows down the enemy carry, and softens up enemy units for Zoe.
(VOD of why I don't like Lissandra)
The combination of Lux, Amumu, and Illaoi feels incredibly solid
Now the reason why I don't give Zoe Shiv on this board is due to a few reasons - Altruists prolong combat due to the mana reave, damage reduction, ally healing, and the trait resistances - That allows your frontline to be super beefy especially since the resistances are great for Bruisers/Wardens (loads of EHP) - Lux will have more AS than Zoe (Lux: 0.7x1.5=1.05 vs Zoe: 0.75x1.2=0.9) - And finally, opening up that item slot allows you to give Zoe a third damage item

Why not itemise Soraka?

Your secondary carry items should be going to Lux as she has more AP from Arcanist.
While Soraka can do a lot of damage, you only really care about her mana reave because it's such a powerful utility ability.
Regardless, Soraka will gain AP naturally from her passive as your frontline will continue to heal during combat. As she gains more AP, she heals your frontline more, who then stall for longer.
Lastly, the following 2 combinations are literally perfect for Altruist Arcanist.
Lux, Teemo, Thresh, Volibear, Galio, Morgana Darius, Bard, Soraka, Galio, Lissandra

4 Warden 6 Arcanist

Here's the board for this one
Teambuilder
(Here's some Footage of this Comp in Action)

Meta Report from Khym and YBY1

In the 14.10 Meta Report by Khym and YBY1, Arcanist Zoe is described as an Easy Top 4 Comp (if I'm reading that correctly)
Khym also has a guide on how to play Zoe/Illaoi RR here
And what's great here is that, again, as you reroll you have option between Amumu or Illaoi 3 as your tank (however Illaoi is better due to the Arcanist AP)
Also, with the 4 Warden buff, this frontline feels great and buys plenty of time for Zoe to scale.
And this variation certainly has the highest ceiling out of all the comps if you get a Porcelain Spatula

6 Arcanist, 4 Warden, 4 Porcelain is extremely powerful.

Luckily, you can easily pivot into this board from Altruist Arcanist but pivoting is a tad more difficult to do if you're playing Ghoe.
Similarly, both the Warden and Altruist boards can tech in Hwei at 8 to make hitting the 3 stars easier.
4 Warden Hwei 4 Arcanist 2 Altruist Hweimothy
So if you're low rolling Zoe, Hwei can easily save the day.
Regardless, all 3 comps make up for at least one of Zoe's weaknesses. They either buy her plenty of time to scale or they tremendously enable her damage and, in turn, her passive.
And, at the very least, Zoe is great item holder due to her buffed passive
Speaking of which, let's talk about Zoe's items now.

Zoe's Items

Of course, as I've mentioned, you can give Zoe Shiv so she can get takedown credit and stack her passive quickly
But generally, MR reduction is necessary (even if it's not on her) so Zoe can kill units and stack her passive. Shiv is far more preferable to build but Ionic still does the job.
But I'm a simple guy, I want to see BIG damage numbers and huge ricochets, thus I forgo Shiv on Zoe for pure damage items.
But before we get into those items, let's talk about which casting item Zoe will want

Casting item: Shojin vs Adaptive Math

First cast:

Zoe is 0/60 and Shojin/Adaptive give 15 mana

Shojin:

0.75-1x3 = 4 seconds

Adaptive:

0.75-1x4 = 5.3 seconds

Second Cast onwards

Shojin:

0.75-1x4 = 5.3 seconds

Adaptive:

10 mana after 0.7 seconds 40 mana every 3 autos every 4 seconds Then 1 more auto for 10 more mana
Thus Adaptive: 0.75-1x4 = 5.3 seconds
So Shojin will get Zoe's first cast off sooner however after that Zoe's cast frequency between Adaptive and Shojin is the same.
Considering Adaptive gives more AP, is not dependant on auto attacking, will continue to generate mana even if Zoe gets stunned (or has to walk up) and it grants MR (useful against magic damage), I believe Adaptive is the superior mana generating item on Zoe if she has no bonus attack speed
If Zoe has just a Shiv, then her cast frequency is much faster [(0.75x1.2)-1x4 = 4.4 seconds] with Shojin.

TLDR:

  • Give Zoe Adaptive if you're going solely damage items on her (Rabadon/Archangel's + Jewelled Gauntlet)
  • Give Zoe Shojin if she has any bonus attack speed (Nashor's/Shiv/Pumping Up)

AP item: Rabadon or Archangel's

Of course, Zoe is a Mage and so she wants as much AP as possible which is either Rabadon or Archangel’s
I prefer Rabadon because it's more upfront AP alongside a great damage amplifier. However Archangel's can be more realistic to build and eventually it will outscale Rabadon's AP.

Increase Casting/Damage Multiplier

Lastly, you can give Zoe an item to increase her casting frequency like Shiv or Nashor's Tooth. Both of these items maximise Zoe's Kill Participation.
Or you can give her more damage amp for more, well, damage. Those are items like Jewelled Gauntlet or even items like Guardbreaker or Giant Slayer.
Although if you go the pure damage route, you need Zoe 3 and a ton of AP, so Zoe can stack her passive by one shotting whatever she touches.

SUPER TDLR:

Generally great build : Shiv/Nashor's + Shojin + Rabadon/Jewelled
My favourite: Adaptive + Rabadon + Jewelled

Bonus: Luden's Tempest

Luden's Tempest feels amazing on Zoe. With her ricochets, she gets so much takedown credit so quickly with it and it's so much damage.
[Here's my gameplay of Luden's Zoe in action]
And what's nice is that Zoe formerly built Luden's in TFT's spinoff game League of Legends. So it's a great callback
Although I've never played Zoe before...can I pretend to have a sense of nostalgia?

Kayle Upgrade

It's Blue.
20 AP is 20 AP. You're already building Shred so Green is Redundant, and the Attack Speed from Red is only 12%.

Pivot Potential

Zoe's items are very flexible so if you don't hit Zoe 3, you can pivot them to other AP carries like Syndra, Azir, Lissandra and Lillia.
So you don't absolutely need to reroll Zoe, you can just as easily use Zoe to Fast 9 instead, especially around Storyweaver, and pivot into a Legendary board.

Fin.

That is all the information I currently have on Zoe Reroll
Hopefully this was helpful but I'd like to ask for your thoughts
What do you guys think about Zoe?

Do you think it's as OP as I believe or is Mortdog right?

Also, I usually do Patch Previews for each patch (for example here's my 14.10 patch preview), but I'm curious whether you guys would be interested if i made that into a Reddit post as well.
I imagine it'd be similar to how they do it on the LoL subreddit but I'd include my thoughts as well.
For example, I think Low Interest Rates is turbo giga insane in 14.10 because you can hit max interest rate at 2-6 (by the latest) at which point you're earning 6 gold a turn.
Lastly, I'm currently working on a Rek'sai reroll comp that is incredibly funny so look forward to that!
But yeah, I'll leave it on that note I think

Let me know if you have any questions!

I shall answer them as soon as i wake up lol

Thank you for reading <3

Do archangels have wings cos if I go to heaven and see an archangel (I don't even know if we are allowed to see them in heaven but like who cares) and bro just has no wings it would be so disappointing like I don't want St. Michael to just look like a normal guy like he should look cool at least

2024.05.14 20:54 Phinoutte Barely 30 ep in thoughts if anybody might have fun reading this...

Just finished the « Cheating death » episode, can't stop thinking about elements of this series.
I will still not look at the other posts of this sub or any other thread related to the fandom until I've finished watching but here are some of my after thoughts regarding the episodes I've watched so far.
Obviously I don't want any actual answer to any of the questions I will write below because that's just what I'm currently wondering about and explaining any part of it would most definitely spoil me.
So, I've started to take notes about things seeming more important than the rest : some people's names, places, groups, weird things mentioned or said. Mostly things bugging me. But unfortunately I've started doing it around episode 9, very lightly at the time. So I feel like I'm not putting some parts together even if I could probably do so if I've started writing down elements at the beginning. (I never thought the stories would be intertwined but they do.) There's a few stories without a connection to any other, at least not that I've gathered but all the others are somewhat linked. Might it be all the creepy books of Lietner. Several forms of “living” darknesses. Jane Prentice and all the flesh hive business. All the strange impostors posing as humans, especially since some seems to be related, some don't [whatever the heck is “Michael” seems related to ep 3, if not directly what Graham became. There seems to be so many stretched out figures with unnaturally long limbs in this show but so far, not all of them appear to me as part of the same faction ? / Species ? I don't know how to say it.] Also, Michael ?! What ?! Why ?! Friendly (?) at least non aggressive eldritch horror... For now I suppose ?! And I'm not hallucinating by thinking the Jane Prentice hive is basically playing a stalker death trap game with any members of the Archives at this point, right ? Just messing with them for it's fun ? ←I would actually like a simple yes or no answer to these last 2 questions.
Also, why are there eyes EVERYWHERE ?!?! An eye on the pamphlet of the weird cult (which, so far, I suppose is the Cult of the divine host, even if I have no fucking idea about what that really entails), Gerald Key as a lot of eyes tattoos, it's on the pendants mentioned, on the video footage of the nurse story, etc etc.
The Lightless flame definitely feels like the name of something but we haven't heard of it again since the first time it was mentioned.
So, the crimson fate talked about by Jane Prentice Flesh hive is basically a form of apocalypse, right ? I don't know how to interpret that otherwise at the moment.
I just have so many questions and theories. Some are stupid but I feel some of them might actually, not necessarily be correct because I feel like this is a deeply complicated set of stories, but be on the right path ?
It's not just the fears that are shared between episodes, the themes too. Fire, eyes, any forms of undeath, books, flesh and bones tales, music, (dark) magic, darkness, spiders, infections, supernatural impostors, mysterious disappearances, coffins, death, strange swirling patterns, knocks, murders, being isolated or trapped against will, “mind controlled”.
I've seen somewhere on the internet before the sentence « If you have a fear, the Magnus Archive has an episode for you. » or something close. I haven't listened to any really triggering me at the moment. But looking at the titles of the episodes to come of the full playlist, I know I would probably hate the « Boatswain's call », « High pressure » and « Too deep » ones (Yes, I have thalassophobia).
Edit : I think I will continue to post my theories or what's new I picked up from time to time while watching this. I don't know when, probably just when I will feel like I've enough new things to add to all of this post. But if some of you would like to see the next ones, just remember my pseudo, it would be somewhere on this thread (I don't know what flair would be appropriate, Theories maybe ?). I would very gladly exchange with you about this nice show. Plus the more episodes I watch, the more we could potentially talk opening without risking to spoil things on my end (I would absolutely hate that and want to avoid it at any cost).

2024.05.14 17:55 Lemon-Aid917 Jesus is not Michael

Most use 1 Thessalonians 4:16 that says that when Christ comes back he will descend with the voice of an Archangel, and they say that that means Jesus is therefore an Archangel, but the problem with this is that it doesn't really say what they say it's saying, but rather that the voice of an Archangel will be heard when Jesus comes back, just like it also says he will come with the trumpet of God. Jesus also has authority Michael doesn't, in Jude 9 says that when fighting with the devil the Archangel didn't dare to condemn him himself but rather said: "the Lord rebuke you", but the gospels talk about Jesus rebuking Satan (Mark 1:25, Luke 4:8, 35), meaning Jesus has the authority to judge and condemn while the Archangel Michael doesn't. The book of Hebrews itself discards the idea of Jesus being an angel, saying that the son of God is not and never was an angel (Hebrews 1:5-6, 13-14). Let's also not forget that Daniel 10:13 says Michael is one of the chief princes, while Jesus' is God's only begotten Son (John 3:16).

2024.05.14 04:23 Embarrassed-Cry3180 Esoteric Interpretation of Four Archangels

According to one of the sayings of Imam Ali (A.S.), the entire cosmos is within us. Our intellect is a spark of the Universal Intellect, and our soul is a spark of the Universal Soul. Similarly, all four Archangels are also within us. In Ismaili literature, Archangels are referred to as Jadd, Fath, and Khayal. Below is the esoteric interpretation of the Archangels based on our literature as well as my interpretation:
Gabriel (Khayal): In our literature, the term used for Gabriel (Jibrail) is Khayal (imagination/thoughts). This is because Gabriel operates within our imagination and thoughts. Gabriel is the angel of Tanzil (Exoteric) or revelation (wahy). Our faculty of imagination or thoughts represents the spark of Gabriel within us. Khayal is the initial step toward spiritual enlightenment, which is why our practice of spiritual enlightenment is known as Bait ul Khayal (House of Thoughts/Imaginations). When we achieve our first success in Bait ul Khayal, it is our faculty of imagination that brings revelation (wahy) in the form of light. At this stage, it is merely a light that brings happiness within us and gives us a sense of initial success in our spiritual journey.
Furthermore, we Ismailis do not believe that Gabriel physically brought the first revelation to the Prophet. As Imam Moiz (A.S.) said, it was revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) in the form of Noor. Just as our faculty of imagination is the spark of Gabriel within us, the faculty of imagination of the Prophets is the actual Gabriel.
Michael (Fath): Once the light is revealed to us through Gabriel, further meditation activates Michael (Mikaail), who is also known as Fath in our literature. Fath literally means "opening," referring to the unveiling of the light that was revealed to us. Our faculty of understanding is the spark of Michael within us. Michael helps us comprehend the deep esoteric meanings of what was revealed. This understanding extends to the esoteric (batini) significance of everything in the cosmos. Generally, Michael is known for distributing provisions among human beings, but spiritually, the spark of Michael within us distributes spiritual provisions, enabling us to grasp deeper, esoteric interpretations.
Raphael (Jadd): Raphael (Israfil) is known as Jadd in our literature. Jadd is the angel of true love. Once we have received all the esoteric knowledge, an immense love for our Creator develops in our hearts. This love leads to the realization that we do not truly exist; it is only He who exists. When we actualize the spark of Raphael within us, we are ready to pass through the phase the Prophet PBUH described in one of his Hadith as “Die before you die.” This is the moment in our spiritual journey where our sole goal is to unite with the Universal Soul, which is also known as Asal ma Wasil or Fana fi Allah.
The faculty of speech is the spark of Raphael within us. Once we have actualized Jadd, our speech becomes a continuous praise of Allah. Thus, all the saints in history, like Rumi, Nasir Khusrow, and other Sufi poets and writers who have praised Allah through their writing and poetry, have undergone this spiritual journey, reaching the point where their speech becomes a praise for Allah. Generally, Raphael is known as the angel who will blow the trumpet before Qiyamah. Esoterically, this angel blows the trumpet within us when we pass through our individual Qiyamah during our Bait ul Khayal, reaching the highest phase of our spiritual journey. This individual Qiyamah signifies that we are now ready to die and get one with our Creator before we physically die.
Azrael: Azrael (Izrael) is the angel who seizes our soul during death. Esoterically, during at the highest phase of our spiritual journey, when we pass through our individual Qiyamah, the angel Azrael seizes our soul. At this moment our individual soul annihilates into the Universal Soul. After this event, we become one with the Universal Soul. Although we are not physically dead, but our individual existence ceases, and we live in this world as a manifestation of the Universal Soul. The famous declaration of “An al-Haq” or "I am the Truth" by Mansoor Al-Hallaj exemplifies this. It was not Mansoor himself who uttered these words, but the Universal Soul speaking through him, as his individual soul had already been annihilated into the Universal Soul.

Hi! Today was my first time attending a reiki session and wow. So much to unpack.
A little background (I'll keep it as short as possible): Im from small town in south louisiana, not religious but had knowledge in Christianity, became more agnostic over the years, but open minded have experienced a lot of trauma, like most, through childhood and up until now. I have been diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety/depression, adhd.
In March I started having worsening abdominal pain so bad that it was debilitating. By mid April, I had a total hysterectomy followed by developing an ileus (intestines basically lose motility) and I literally thought I was dying. It was so painful and traumatic.
I've been better since the surgery, and hormones are perfectly regulated but I felt a lot of things from my past trauma resurfaced (now I know it makes since, since root chakra=survival and is connected to female reproduction). I've been working on healing my inner child and started meditating and stuff when I learned about reiki. I've been trying to work on things specifically-be happier, find joy, be grateful, tap back into my creative side, learn more about quantum physics/astronomy.
Today, I went in with an open mind only expecting it to be more of a meditation/relaxation thing. Prior to the session, I didn't tell the practitioner anything-about surgery, beliefs, anxiety, spiritual journey. She also does not know me, and while I do have social media, I don't post much.
Session starts, I felt warmth on my head and all these tingles and twinge throughout. When she was on my crown chakra I saw the most beautiful purple/magenta, super vibrant. Then I saw other colors through out just not as intense.
Here's the cool part: after our session, she told me that she sensed the over thinking/anxiety and on my heart chakra she felt like an elephant was on her chest. Funny thing is, I've been having that sensation all week and have been doing somatic exercises for it.
She also said that when she got to my root chakra/lower abdomen her hand burned, which is insane! She also said that Archangel Haniel came through. Although I was raised Christian, I have no idea who this is. All the practitioner told me about her was that she's known for wisdom and joy (perfect, just what I've been asking for). She also mentioned the number 35, which didn't really resonate with me except for the fact that I always had a feeling I'd die at 35 (morbid, I know). Left the session feeling great. Peaceful and validated.
Upon searching Haniel, she's amazing! She represents everything I've been wanting to manifest in my life!! Weirdest thing. She's also associated with artemis, the moon, and astrology. I've always felt a connection to artemis (thought about getting her tattooed on me next to my moon phases). Same thing when I looked up 35. There's a lot more I could write, but it's already too long. If you've made it this far, thanks.
Is it a fluke or a self fulfilling prophecy, you may think so. But I don't! Life is amazing and there's so much we don't know.

2024.05.13 14:20 Atleett A portrait of Lutheranism in Prague, Czechia

A portrait of Lutheranism in Prague, Czechia
During this year's ascension period, I have travelled with my church choir (from Stockholm, Sweden) to perform in breathtakingly beutiful and history-rich Prague, capital city of Czechia (more commonly known as the Czech Republic) I would like to contribute with some information about Lutheranism in this country, and feel free to correct any errors. To begin with this region of Europe has deep links to the reformation. The proto-reformation of Jan Hus (whose followers became known as hussites) began here in the province of Bohemia with demands for masses in the vernacular language, communion under both forms, independence from Rome and reducing the number of sacraments to two. The movement was later eradicated by the Roman Catholic Church but once the Lutheran reformation started in nearby Saxony it was also very strong in these lands. Unknown to many, despite the fact that the region today has large Roman Catholic majorities (or plurality in the case of Czechia, the world's least religious country), at one point in history the vast majority of today's Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and even Austria was protestant. Although eventually all of it was brought back under the jurisdiction of Rome with the late counter-reformation in the year 1620. Later during the 1700s the modern moravian church was born in nearby Saxony by hussite refugees, hence the name (Moravia being the other major province of Czechia) Obviously, hussite and Lutheran ideas align much and there was affinity between the two. I believe Lutheranism spread more among the large ethnic sudeten German population while hussitism was more popular among the slavic Czech population. In the 1700s protestants regained some religious freedom and later in the 1800s religious equality. During the decades after Czechoslovakia gained it's independence from the Austrian empire in 1918, it seems the protestant churches grew much from roman Catholic converts and especially a break-away church from the roman Catholic Church that revived hussite teachings called "the czechoslovak hussite Church". In the year 1950 it represented 10,6 % of the population, which is one of the most extraordinary examples of mass conversions in Europe since the reformation. Mostly it seems to have been because of popular demand for a church that represented Czech sovereignty rather than the Austrian imperialism that many associated with the Roman Catholic Church. The united Reformed-Lutheran church with some hussite influences called the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren also almost doubled it's percentage of the population to 4,5%. Although the following decades of communist dictatorship dramatically reduced the percentage of self reported Christians of all denominations to a combined 11,7 % of the population in 2021. "mainline" protestants now only make up 0.6% of the population. Also, the expulsion of millions of ethnic Germans after World War 2 reduced the number of Lutherans. There is also a small Lutheran denomination primarily catering to the silesian polish minority in the northeastern parts of the country. This Sunday I visited four churches belonging to the United, Lutheran and Hussite denominations. The days prior we had also performed in two of them. They all happened to start at different times and are all in New Town (which is a part of the very old medieval city core) or it's vicinity so I was able to visit each one for a while.
  1. Salvator church or Church of Saint Saviour belongs (pictures 1-4) to the Evangelical Church of Czech brethren and is the biggest protestant church in the city, probably the country. It has a grand but simple design and was built by the Lutherans during the reign of Holy Roman emperor Rudolf II in the 16th or early 17th century but shortly afterwards protestants we're expelled from the country and the church turned over to the Roman Catholic Paulian order. Now it is protestant once again and it would seem to me it had a reformed/united profile rather than purely Lutheran since the service was very simple, and there was a podium rather than an altar. Only about 30 people attended the rather big church. It has an absolutely fantastic organ and renowned acoustics. Therefore many concerts are held there. Today it is a member of the Lutheran World Federation, and both it and the hussites have had female ordination for decades while the ECCB last year allowed for same sex marriages.
  2. Even though not Lutheran, I will include the hussite church of St Nicholas (pictures 5-9) located on the big square and epicentre of Prague's medieval city core. This baroque church was originally built as eastern orthodox and therefore has an interior of the more lavish kind and has a round shape where pews seem to have been added only later. My impression from the artistic style is that sometime in the early 1900s the icons and wall paintings must have been painted over with biblical motives, of high quality. The liturgy was also a bit more high church leaning than the first church. Communion, and more specifically communion in both forms for all is very central to the hussites and a chalice is the symbol of both their church and in the logo of the ELCB. Despite the country's Roman Catholic plurality, an enormous statue of Jan Hus occupies the main square (picture 5)and they seem to have a rebellious national identity in which Jan Hus and his followers fit in as national symbols. Because of theological and historical closeness, I have a high regard for hussites and have fantasised about a full communion of their church with mine, I don't know if there are any such plans but it wouldn't be far-fetched since they also are very ecumenically minded. Therefore it felt fulfilling to be able to partake in their communion for the first time in this small Christian denomination with old roots and a presence only in this corner of the earth. Gladly it was quite packed with people. Also, my choir had performed there the day before. (picture 9)
  3. The church of St Martin in the wall (pictures 10-12) is a small medieval church built in 1187 and with major parts from the 1300s and 1400s, hence it's gothic appearance. It is quite small and simple but has a very special, ancient ambience. It also plays an important role in the history of the reformation since it was a centre for hussite ideas and it was the first place in the country where communion was distributed in both forms. In 1784 it was closed and used as a storage space after Austrian emperor Joseph II had personally visited it and deemed it "dark, moist and aged". In 1904 it was bought by the city of Prague and renovated and after the first World War it was bought by the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren who still use it. The information posters emphasise a Lutheran heritage but with some sort of texts about hussitism. I would presume that since hussitism was largely eradicated and these parts of Europe were more Lutheran than Reformed, the main stream of the ECCBs theological identity and history would be Lutheran. The mass I visited was in the German language, which could also indicate that this parish specifically has a Lutheran heritage. It seemed to mainly cater to the modern German diaspora rather than the tiny native German speaking minority. For example the EKD hymnals was used. It was much more full of people than I expected, probably 60, but almost all of them were teenagers and probably some sort of church youth group visiting from Germany. (picture 11) They also have a Czech language service for young people in the evening. Two days earlier we sang at a concert there, the first part was us singing a traditional Swedish romantic repertoire about spring, summer and folk songs typical of the 19th century national romanticism and Swedish choir tradition. Even though they didn't understand a word, the czech audience was very sweet, supporting and applauding. Then a small but skilled czech choir continued with more religious themed music in Czech, Latin and English (picture 12). Even though we mostly didn't understand anything it was still very special to sit there and listen, in the ancient building with great acoustics a beutiful spring evening and I think everyone regardless if Swedish or Czech felt a bit closer to God.
  4. The Church of St Michael the Archangel (pictures 13-20) lies on one of many narrow old streets in the medieval city centre. It was built in the gothic period in 1369 and shares exterior similarities with Martin-in-the-wall although has a more baroque touch interior wise after a fire in 1717. This church also became Lutheran and was then transferred to the Roman Catholic Church in 1621. Emperor Joseph II ordered it to close in 1787 and it was bought by a merchant who gave it to the German protestants, who originally planned to demolish the tower because protestant places of worship were not allowed to have towers. However, gladly they were granted an exception. The stained glass windows features inscriptions in German (picture 20). Also note the Luther rose and 1517 commemoration altar candle (picture 19). The building belongs to the "Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in the Czech Republic" which is a purely Lutheran denomination that I couldn't find much information about. However it has both Czech, Slovak services and an international English language congregations that is small but active and close-knit, arranging bible studies and group trips for example. It gave the impression of an evangelical catholic profile with procession, liturgical vestments and signing of the cross. The clergy was American and it uses a hymnals that I believe was from the American LCMS (picture 17). Because of the intelligibility this was the only service I visited in it's entirety and I got a nice impression of the small congregation and the possibility for the small group of about 25 people from all different parts of the world to Lutheran worship.

In Jude 9 says that the archangel Michael didn't want to judgement to the devil and said:"the Lord rebuke You" but then in Mark 1:25 and Luke 4:35 Jesus rebukes Satan

2024.05.12 06:47 Katoliko_Ako God and the Devil aren’t opposites

Technically God and the Devil aren’t opposites. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, etc. and the devil isn’t. The devil is a fallen angel. Therefore, the opposite of the devil is more of St. Michael the Archangel who is an angelic being just like him.

2024.05.12 06:41 pussy_obliterator What should I know about Archangels

I have just started my journey into learning about the occult. The Archangel Gabriel really fascinates me and I’m really intrigued by him. I’ve learnt about him through the Bible and the Quran, and his figure really calls out to me as he is a revealer. I also really find interest in Michael and Ramiel. What could I do to come across Gabriel and the other archangels?
