Trying to complete my DIYs and noticed I was missing a lot of the flower crowns and wreaths. I added the recipes I was missing to a wishlist and attached the link. If anyone has spare DIYs I’d be happy to trade! I have all fruit, crops and flowers, and a pretty full storage of inventory. Please let me know! Thanks in advance!

2024.05.16 19:24 chugz New business start-up. Locksmithing or Iron-gates in a growing semi-rural area?

Quick run-down: I'm handy. Have a good knowledge base for construction and DIY. My family has 100acres of some relatively unused land in a small town that is just outside a major metropolitan area (its currently being leased to a cattle rancher for the ag-expemption). This once tiny town is now being bought-up en masse by retirees and people looking to leave the bustle of the cities. Tons and tons of new '5 acre ranch style homes' communities are popping up everywhere. Land value is sky-rocketing. So the people buying these new homes have generally deep-pockets. I have a full-sized truck, a 14ft trailer, a 24' x 10' storage container (with a door and AC) and a 30' x 30' barn to act as a defacto shop until i can expand to something more stable.
Business ideas: I've identified two markets that have little to no competition in within a 50-mile radius of this area. Lock-smithing companies. Iron/Gate companies.
Lock-smith: I have zero formal experience doing this. But I figure the start-up costs are mostly minimal. I can teach myself most of it on youtube and through trial and error. And i can do small auto/house calls out of my truck until i establish more clients. There is zero locksmiths anywhere nearby. However, the pay-scale is probably more modest with most contracts in the 3 figures, with some rarely exceeding 4 figures.
Iron/Gate Co: I have some experience welding, but i'm not proficient. But i know for a fact that every single one of these new 'suburban ranch' homes is going to have a long driveway and a gate, as well as servicing existing ranch gates. So i feel like the demand is there and will keep growing. It has way more start-up cost for equipment, and will probably require employees like an experienced welder for fabrication and and proficient installer. but each contract will be at minimum 4 figures and getting into 5 figures relatively easily. So the pay-scaling would be much higher.
I have a good savings, and about $60k i'd feel comfortable throwing into this. I just finished a long term contract and am looking to start my own thing. My wife brings in great money and is supportive. Told me to give it hell for a year or two and see how it goes.
Just looking for general advice, pitfalls, thoughts, comments, whatever! I've been going back and forth in my head for days and just looking for any feedback.
thanks!

2024.05.16 19:13 n1247 First time van buyer

Hi,
I'm a first time buyer. Me and my wife are planning to live in a high roof extended van for 6 months of the year (in the summer). We can both work fully remote.
We would prefer to buy something that is ready built and make customisations as we go. We both have very little DIY/power tool experience so we would like to see how we get on making changes before committing to building something from scratch.
Our budget is 25-30k USD. We are not looking for "Instagram luxury". Just something that is comfortable, light and airy.
Main requirements:
Shortlist so far (within budget): Ford Transit 350 (2017), Ram ProMaster 3500 (2017-18), 2015 Mercedes-Benz sprinter 3500.
We're open to buying a passenger van with windows and getting this converted by someone that knows what they're doing. For the requirements I've listed, what would be the estimated cost incl. labour?
Any recommendations or feedback is much appreciated!

2024.05.16 18:46 radertron restarters / newer players! please read first (about to flatten).

EDIT: CLOSED! the dodo if you have it is still good if you want to come back. sorry if you missed this. will be doing it again in a day or two!!
i don’t restart, i flatten. from-launch island. i need to open storage space. it’s been a while since i’ve opened my island to strangers (the community has changed a lot & it wasn’t great, but one last try on a different subreddit). i’m not a jerk but please read this. you won’t get the dodo if you don’t. i’m not apologizing for blank space or how the island looks, i’m mid-reconstruction.
DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING ON MY ISLAND. thank you. NO TIPS. NO ITEMS. this is a giveaway.
out of airport:
on your right: in front of the shops inc sidewalk & beach) are DIYs (feel free to learn them as you need). between the shops is a stand alone ATM you can use. over the bridge on the beach are bell bags to the area between the dock & large rocks.
on your left: large items, NMTs, veg starters, racks of craft mats, some treats. in the large items are over 70 castle pieces of every colorway. cyrus can change them for you if you get colors you don’t like. help yourself to bells to cover that.
if you need: fruit, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, etc. please let me know & i will get those for you. have several racks of all fruits/shoots in storage.
DO: take your time, feel free to sign the board if that’s your thing, go to shops, visit villagers… not too much going on here, getting ready to flatten. my vendor today is gullivaaaaaaarrrrrr, so that’s not helpful to you.
DO NOT: run, shake trees, pick flower tops, pick veg, be a jerk, arrive in a wetsuit (PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS, change your clothes), i will hit the button if anyone isn’t being decent. DO NOT UPSTREAM OTHERS FOR BELLS OR ITEMS. i will refresh bell bags as needed. if you do not know what “upstreaming” means, this isn’t the island for you to visit. there’s plenty of bells for everyone who visits & wants/needs them.
i am going to be getting rid of a LOT of flowers later in the week, message me if you want some. again, do not pick the tops or trample them. if you do grab bags on your island i have a ton of wrapping paper & would love to donate to your cause! let me know.
yes you can make multiple trips. comment your favorite villager & i will send you the code. will open to 3 people at a time. will be open for 2-3 hours. i’m wearing a black baggy shirt, worn jeans, grey sneakers, black rain hat, brown hair. my “house” (the grey one) is off limits, it’s a wreck. the “fake” houses are open (any house with a blinking mailbox). i’m aware of the space tragedy house having roaches, it adds to its charm. afternoon TP121 if you want to do that as well.
everything left behind will end up in bins so take it! thanks!

2024.05.16 16:53 n1247 Skoolie or van?

Hi,
I'm a first time buyer. Me and my wife are planning to live in a Skoolie (short bus or long bus) or a high roof extended van for 6 months of the year (in the summer).
We enjoy hiking in mountains so the vehicle has to be capable of driving up and down steep inclines. This has somewhat put me off buying a long bus with a lot of weight as I'm not sure if it would be suitable for these types of roads in the heat. I can only drive auto transmission. I'm a confident driver, however I have no experience driving larger vehicles. So a short bus or a van seems more realistic. I'm 6ft and my partner is 5.4ft.
Shortlist so far (within budget):
1992 International/Thomas bus - fully converted with 36,938 miles. Six cylinder International diesel/ Build looks amazing and it has so much space. Main concern is the weight and driving it on steep inclines. 31.5’ bumper to bumper 236” wheelbase 8’ wide 10’10” tall.
1991 Blue Bird bus - gorgeous bus. Looks pretty unique so might have re-sale value. Converted into a store so it has a nice open layout and furniture. Would leave me with little room in budget to add living requirements. Other concern is the 248k miles.
2002 Ford e450 skoolie - 7.3L powerstroke diesel. 185k miles on it. Fully converted to a high standard. Only problem is that it's designed for someone who is 5.9ft. So I won't be buying this one but I'm looking for other e450s as I've heard the 7.3L powerstroke diesel engine is reliable and the interior has enough space for what we want.
Alternatives: Dodge Sprinter 3500 (2008), Ford Transit 350 (2017), Ram ProMaster 3500 (2017-18)
Buses are more expensive to maintain and are less fuel efficient. The main benefit vs. a van is the space. If I can realistically drive on mountains roads then I'm all for getting a bus.
Any recommendations or feedback is much appreciated!

2024.05.15 18:07 ctbjdm Resmed Airsense 10 DIY Humidifier tank expansion

(did this years ago, found Reddit and sharing here now)
I've run out of water in my Resmed Airsense 10 occasionally. I wanted to expand the tank capacity and make it easier to fill.
I did some research and found a thread on the apneaboard forum that someone came up with a DIY solution for this -- full credit to RonKMiller there for the idea and full description of how to do it.
RonKMiller's instructions are here: http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread ... #pid150798 and spot on / easy to follow. Only difference is you need (4) Watts quick connect 1/4" x 1/8" PL-3004; 2 for the Rubbermaid container and 2 for the stock humidifer container (not sure why he said you only needed 2). Obviously this requires some level of DIY capability and some basic tools but it really was pretty easy (though I am very into tools/construction/etc).
I wanted to share this here for awareness; I did this myself with a modification, using a Rubbermaid Brilliance container rather than RonKMIller's Nalgene container - http://www.rubbermaid.com/en-US/brillia ... containers. I actually tried the Nalgene container at first but found it made 'crinkling' noises as it was used, and it's a tight fit with that top and the two fittings. I also find the Rubbermaid container easier to open and close to fill since the fittings are on the side vs on the top. I've been using it for 2-3 weeks, years now and it works great - the Rubbermaid container is definitely airtight and it has 2 latches to secure it down as well as a rubber gasket. I fill the Rubbermaid container each night, and that drains into the stock humidifer reservoir (so I never pull that out).
Here's a picture of my solution with the cover off. Note that my implementation isn't perfect. Ideally the height of the input line from the Rubbermaid container is as low as possible, but higher than the stock Resmed humidifier container to ensure it drains down via gravity. Mine works, but could be better - I placed the Rubbermaid on a piece of scrap wood for now and would probably re-engineer this / plan it a little better (perhaps a small stand to put the Rubbermaid container on).
You also have to be aware of the max fill of your Rubbermaid container to make sure you don't overflow the CPAP machine itself.
You will sacrifice your existing Airsense humidifer tank if you do this (by drilling holes/installing fittings) so I would recommend having a spare. But this worked for me first time with no issues.
Happy to answer any questions based on my experience, but again full thanks to RonKMiller for coming up with this.

2024.05.15 17:17 bostonmovingcompany A Stress-Free Move: Tips for Moving with Your Cat

Moving can be a stressful time for everyone, including our feline friends. Imagine being whisked away from the comfort of your familiar surroundings to a new and unfamiliar place. As you plan your relocation, it’s essential to consider the needs of your beloved cat to ensure a smooth transition for both of you. That’s why we will give you the best tips for moving with your cat.
Moving with a cat requires careful planning and consideration to ensure their safety and well-being throughout the process. Here are some expert tips for moving with your cat:

Create a Safe Haven:

Before the moving day arrives, set up a safe and comfortable space for your cat in your current home. This area should include their bed, litter box, food, water, and familiar toys to help them feel secure amidst the chaos of packing.

Gradual Introductions:

If possible, introduce your cat to their carrier well in advance of the move. Leave it open with familiar bedding inside, along with treats and toys, to encourage positive associations. Gradually increase the amount of time your cat spends in the carrier to help reduce anxiety on moving day.

Familiar Scents:

When packing your belongings, be sure to leave out familiar items that carry your cat’s scent, such as bedding or blankets. These familiar scents can provide comfort to your cat in their new environment and help them adjust more quickly.

Stick to Routine:

Amidst the chaos of moving, try to maintain your cat’s regular feeding and playtime schedule as much as possible. Consistency can help reduce stress and anxiety for your cat during this transitional period.

Secure Transportation:

On moving day, ensure your cat is safely secured in their carrier before transporting them to your new home. Consider using a pheromone spray or calming collar to help keep them relaxed during the journey.

Comfort in the New Home:

Once you’ve arrived at your new home, create a designated space for your cat with familiar items from their old environment. Allow them to explore their new surroundings at their own pace, and provide plenty of reassurance and attention to help them feel safe and secure.

Patience and Understanding:

Moving can be a challenging experience for cats, and they may exhibit signs of stress or anxiety during the transition period. Be patient and understanding with your furry friend, and give them the time and space they need to adjust to their new home.
Important tips: Hiring movers or DIY?

2024.05.15 07:38 tab_rick A Comprehensive Guide to Types of Bathroom Sinks

A Comprehensive Guide to Types of Bathroom Sinks
Bathroom sinks, formerly thought to be merely functional, have grown into a focal point of design and innovation. With so many alternatives, homeowners can now choose from a variety of sinks that not only perform their primary job but also improve the aesthetic appeal of their bathrooms. This comprehensive guide to different types of sinks will help you understand the choices you have as you tackle your bathroom remodel project. If you’re looking to equip your bathroom with usability, but also a unique edge, then a stone basin, one of the types of sinks, is your best option. The beautiful aspect of a stone basin is that they are made from a natural material, ultimately giving your bathroom a natural aura.

The Evolution of Bathroom Sink Designs

https://preview.redd.it/z1lsb8422j0d1.png?width=612&format=png&auto=webp&s=d141d84093c2169f25624494f7995454f5b0682d
Bathroom sinks have seen significant change over time, evolving from simple practical components to intricate design components. Throughout the Victorian period, pedestal sinks were employed as an elegant accent in the bathrooms of several magnificent homes. These sinks encapsulate the elegance of the time with their complex structures and ceramic or porcelain the surfaces.
Trends in architecture and interior design have had an effect on bathroom sink design. Modern times have seen a rise in the appeal of simple, minimalist designs, and wall-mounted sinks are swiftly catching on. Both visual and functional changes were made. Contemporary sinks must be streamlined and small because space is sometimes at a premium in these houses.Due to the twin demands of function and design, a broad variety of sink solutions have been produced, each of which satisfies a specific set of needs and preferences.
Today’s homeowners have a wide range of alternatives for sink designs, materials, and methods of installation so that their bathrooms may both appropriately serve their personal tastes and critical purposes.

Drop-in Bathroom Sinks

Consider a drop-in sink, also known as a self-rimming sink, for the bathroom as a basin that you just “drop” into a hole in the bathroom counter. It is secured in place by a rim or edge that rests on top of the counter. With a drop-in sink, you don’t need to change your modern bathroom around or destroy your countertop. It’s easy to install —drop it in, and the outer rim of the sink will prevent it from falling through. You may easily find one that matches the surface of your counter, or you can select something different. Drop-in sinks are a popular option for many individuals since they are quite adaptable and simple to install.

Benefits of Choosing Drop-in Sinks

The main advantage of integrated sinks is their seamless design, which not only looks stylish but also offers practical benefits. No seams or joints mean there are fewer places for dirt and debris to accumulate, making cleaning easier. Additionally, the unified design provides a more streamlined and modern look, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the bathroom.

Undermount Bathroom Sinks

Unlike recessed sinks, undermount sinks are positioned beneath the counter. It appears as though the countertop and sink are seamlessly integrated. Wall-mounted sinks are popular for modern bathrooms because of their sleek, modern design. They are often composed of stainless steel, ceramic, and porcelain.

Advantages Over Other Sink Types

Like undermount sinks, the fundamental benefit of undermount sinks is that they are simple to clean. Cleaning becomes more efficient since there are no ledges or edges on the counter, allowing rubbish to be wiped directly into the under-mount sink. Additionally, their seamless form creates a more streamlined and contemporary appearance, improving the bathroom’s overall appeal. However, the countertop material must be water-resistant because the sink’s edges will be in contact with water.

Wall-Mounted Bathroom Sinks

Wall-mounted sinks are, as the name implies, simply fixed to the wall and don’t need a countertop or vanity. This straightforward, room-saving design, which is popular in offices, has gained popularity in restrooms.
Wall-mounted sinks, including ceramic, porcelain, and stainless steel options, are a popular choice for people who seek a minimalist design and wish to maximize floor space. These sinks mount directly to the wall with no floor support, attaching to special hanger brackets fastened to the wall and to framing members or a wall reinforcement behind the sink. Plumbing waste and supply lines may either be exposed or concealed in a “shroud” or cover fastened to the underside of the sink. Wall-mounted sinks offer a sleek and modern look, making them a great addition to any bathroom.

Key Advantages of Wall-Mounted Sinks

Space savings is the main benefit of a wall-mounted sink. These sinks are perfect for small bathrooms with constrained floor space because they lack a vanity and countertop. Additionally, the absence of storage beneath makes cleaning the bathroom floor simpler. They are an attractive choice for people seeking a contemporary and eye-catching bathroom design due to its straightforward design and appealing aesthetics.

Corner Bathroom Sinks

Because of space-saving design, corner sinks are made to tuck neatly into a bathroom corner. These sinks are often wall-mounted but can also stand alone. Corner sinks are perfect for tiny bathrooms or restrooms with limited space, including smaller bathrooms. These are available in a range of materials, such as ceramic and porcelain. They can also be perfect for big bathrooms with little counter space but enough of extra space in a vanity or closet.

Where to Best Utilize Corner Sinks

Corner sinks are best suited for bathrooms where space efficiency is vital due to their compact shape. They are ideal for powder rooms or guest bathrooms where a full-sized vanity would not fit. Additionally, their unique establishment makes it possible to make use of bathroom corners, that are generally underutilized, more efficiently.

Integrated Bathroom Sink/Countertop

A form of sink called an integrated sink, often referred to as a multipurpose sink, merges the sink and countertop into a single piece. This design gives it a seamless appearance by seamlessly blending the sink and countertop together without any cracks or connections. Undermount sinks are popular with homeowners searching for a contemporary, coordinated bathroom décor because they offer a modern appeal and are constructed of materials like quartz, granite, and solid surface. conclude.

Benefits of the Integrated Design

Integrated sinks are the pinnacle of contemporary bathroom architecture. Their immaculate, seamless appearance is a utilitarian marvel in addition to being beautiful to look at. You are freed from the tiresome chore of cleaning out hidden filth and grime because there aren’t any annoying seams or joints. It alters the course of cleansing. Additionally, the modern beauty of integrated sinks’ slim design elevates any bathroom to the status of a design marvel.

Flat Bathroom Sinks

Flat sinks are a breath of fresh air in the world of bathroom aesthetics. Eschewing the conventional deep basin, these avant-garde trough sinks, with their flat or subtly sloped surfaces, ensure water gracefully flows directly to the drain. Crafted from exquisite materials like ceramic, porcelain (also known as vitreous china), stainless steel, and copper, they radiate a contemporary charm. For homeowners with an eye for the unique, flat sinks are an undeniable statement piece.

Advantages of the Flat Sink Design

Flat sinks are revolutionary. With their sleek, modern flair, they audaciously defy the venerable conventions of sink design. They not only serve as the focal point of the bathroom, but they are also brilliantly designed in other ways. They have less curves and corners to deal with when cleaning because of their flat design. The aesthetically pleasing design and practical functionality make upkeep simple.

What are the latest trends in bathroom sink designs?

Speaking from a wealth of experience in bathroom design, it’s fascinating to witness the evolution of sinks from mere functional entities to pivotal design elements. The current design landscape is witnessing a discernible shift towards minimalist, space-efficient models, with wall-mounted and flush-mounted sinks stealing the limelight. The allure of materials like quartz, granite, and solid surfaces is on the rise, as they masterfully marry durability with aesthetic charm. The design world is also abuzz with the seamless elegance of integrated and built-in sinks, marking a trend that’s gaining considerable traction. A word to the wise for those considering these sinks – ensure your faucet boasts enough height to gracefully arch over the top of your vanity.

Conclusion

Drawing from my extensive experience in bathroom aesthetics, selecting the perfect sink is an art that balances functionality with design finesse. Today’s market is brimming with choices, empowering homeowners to find a sink that isn’t just about utility but also a reflection of their personal style. Whether you’re inclined towards the timeless charm of a built-in sink or the contemporary allure of a flush-mounted one, rest assured there’s a masterpiece waiting to resonate with your design sensibilities.

2024.05.15 05:43 J_Lewy_45 Apartment Living/Storage

My wife and I sold our house and moved across the country, rented a meh place for the first 9 months and just moved into a nice 2 bedroom that we’re planning on staying in for 3 years
We’re still getting rid of stuff from the house to make the apartment organized and fit together nicely.
How do you all store your rods and gear? My rods are currently in a pvc pipe that I really want to get rid of. My tackle boxes are in 2 big storage containers that absolutely need to go, they’re about 4x2x2 and don’t fit anywhere.
Any good organization set ups? DIY projects? All ideas are welcome, except getting rid of my gear 😅

2024.05.14 23:39 SmushBoy15 Recommendations for Crosscut Sled for Table Saw

I am a DIY Homeowner and I bought the Milwaukee table saw and now am looking for a pre made cross cut sled. I know the standard is to build one but I dont have a truck and I get things delivered to me with the delivery fess and storage issues I cannot build one myself and am looking to see if someone here is using a pre made crosscut sled. Also I did spend quite a bit of time researching various sleds but have not seen anyone use it with the Milwaukee table thus I dont know the compatibility.
