2024.05.16 22:46 Ravioli_868 iPad vs MacBook - Apple’s quandary

Does anyone share a similar opinion that Apple is currently (now more than ever) in a state of uncertainty as to what to do with the iPad, in that on one hand they have given the iPad the power (M2, M4 etc) to handle numerous productivity tasks (like a laptop) but they have to limit the use case of the iPad going forward. Should they give iPadOS that freedom, it will increase the amt of persons using iPads as basic laptops and also decrease the amt of MacBooks being sold.
To me it seems that they know the iPads are a safe but stagnant market but the only way to release a new iPad is to make easy aesthetic changes (new screen, thinner size etc) and increased computing power.
Not sure what the future holds for iPads at this time. Thoughts? I know this isn’t a new topic but some discussions on it are always welcomed!

2024.05.16 22:39 Armand28 One feature I forgot about but love with my new iPad: 6e

The 6e WiFi is so nice! My 5th Gen iPad Pro would top out at 700-800Mbit, but with 6e I’m getting 1.9-2Gbit to the internet and a bit more for local transfers. 3X the speed makes a big difference and it doesn’t clutter up my 5GHz channels, which is a bonus. I’m 1 room away so I lose a little performance, but it’s so much better than it was. I was just moving some large video files from my Plex server to my iPad and I went to check the transfer and it was already done. Upload speeds on the other hand are kind of worse, I’m averaging around 500Mbit which is pretty slow, but I’ll take that trade off any day for the download speeds.

2024.05.16 22:39 Poznic-Training Seba CJ2 + Intuition liners sizing question

Seba CJ2 + Intuition liners sizing question:
NOTE: I made a video explaining this and showing it visually, so please feel free to watch instead of reading for more clarity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMLRyhfMW9w&ab_channel=PoznicTraining
I'm new to wizard skating and just got my first used setup, and need some help with sizing issues I'm having. Here goes:
  1. Gut the CJ2's and try them with the Intuition Premium liner. My fear is that while I've heard they're thinner and therefore have more space, when I put my hand into the boot, there's already almost no padding on the part that's around the part of my foot that hurts, so I doubt I could gain much at all in terms of that width. I have heard, though, that the Intuition is also thinner in the back, so my foot might slide back a bit and therefore have more width in the front?
  2. Resell the CJ2's used and buy a new pair of CJ2's or CJ2 Primes without liner to use with the Intuition liners and hope the size up increases enough width to make them comfortable, without being so long that I'm swimming in them.
A part of me would like to gut the CJ2's I own and try them with the Intuition liner, but am nervous that if I do that and it's still too tight, I'll be reselling a pair of gutted CJ2's with no liner at all, and surely losing some money compared to reselling them with the stock liner in there in great condition. On the other hand, if I but new CJ2's in a size bigger and they end up being too big, I'll have lost even more money.
Ok, if you've read this far, THANK YOU! My questions are:
  1. If you've gutted CJS'2 for Intuition Premium liners, did you experience a noticeable increase in WIDTH through the middle of your foot?
  2. With my feet measuring 26.5cm, I was going to order the liners in the 26-26.5 size, but read a few people saying they went one size up and were more comfortable. Thoughts?
Thanks so much in advance, super grateful for any suggestions anyone has!

2024.05.16 21:49 StressedSexual Advice

Hi, I'm not sure where else to start with this. Several years ago I was told I have DeQuervains in my left hand (which also happens to be my dominant hand). Over time it's become unnoticeable and then come back with a vengeance. Recently I got into an accident and a series of other events in combination lead to a partial year in my left shoulder rotator cuff. This has made the issues with my hand significantly worse and now I can barely hold a pen or a fork and I have a constant sensation of weakness and tingling. I had a nerve conduction study done and they weren't able to find anything wrong with my nerves or my muscles. The situation makes me feel like I'm going crazy because the doctor says they see nothing wrong but I can barely use my dominant hand. He mentioned that it could be arthritis but didn't give me anything else to go off of. I'm 26 and I feel like I'm lost and that I'm gonna be stuck with this pain for the rest of my life. I don't really know what I'm asking. I guess I'm just asking for advice or other people's experiences.

2024.05.16 21:33 0ut_0f_Bounds [WTS] two Thermarest Neoair XLites, regular 13.4oz and short 6.9oz, custom Zimmerbuilt Quickstep in DCF, 12.9oz

[WTS] Selling off some more gear that I am not using and it needs a new home. I have a few sales here on ULgeartrade and geartrade, and I had many before the new rating system kicked in. Prices include shipping from 98501 USA to CONUS only, I accept PayPal G&S only, add that 3% pretty please.
-It has the adjustable back panel bungie, and there's an included 13"x9.5" folding sit pad that tucks in there for support and breathability, and you can even use it for sitting on! And it weighs just a scant 0.8oz.
-it has the sternum strap with a built-in whistle, and a haul loop. But wait, there's more!
-it also comes with padded shoulder straps, with daisy chains! Fancy!
-it has hipbelt loops, but alas, there is no hipbelt included. Bummer. But---
-above the shoulder straps, built-in to the rolltop is a waterproof zip pocket that is 4.5"x9". This is a good pocket for stakes, your spork, eyeglasses case, whatever. The rolltop still functions perfectly when you got your stuffs in here. And if you like pockets, check this next feature out...
-above the mesh pocket on the front of the pack is another waterproof zip pocket that's 6.5"x9". The ex-girl stuck her FAK, poop kit and I think a power bank in here. Be creative, you can stick anything you want in this pocket, I won't judge. And now...
-the bottom pocket! I went crazy on this one...it has openings on BOTH ends. That's right! Left-handed, right-handed, ambidextrous? This pack will work for you. Totes bonkers.
this pack also has loops up top for a Y-strap or Y-bungie, I honestly don't remember what used to be there, but whatever it was, it isn't there anymore. So the buyer gets to pick their own adventure up top. You get to make a custom pack even more custom! Crazy. So there you have it, a weird little superlight 28L pack (+8L in the pockets). I remember paying around $240 for this before shipping, I'm asking for $160 shipped. Thanks for looking, and happy trails.
Edit because I forgot to include the sleeping pad condition and usage.

2024.05.16 21:02 Accomplished-Map5007 I'm at my wit's end with my destructive kitty

I am at my wit's end with one of my cats. We have an almost 4 year old named Teddy and a 2 year old named Nala. For context, we got Teddy about 2+ years ago from a coworker of my gf's who was about to get in trouble with her apartment for having 6 pets when the max there is 2. He's a sweetheart but can be fairly destructive. After about 8-9 months, we decided to adopt Nala from a shelter, because we observed him becoming increasingly social and thought he might be lonely when he's at our apartment by himself for hours at a time. They love each other and get along great, apart from when one of them plays a bit rougher than the other would like to. Fast forward to recently, about 3 months ago my parents asked me if I would like their couches as they were moving out of the house I grew up in and downsizing.
I gladly accepted as the couches we owned were their last scruffy old hand-me-downs, and these couches held significant sentimental value to me. They are significantly nicer, faux-leather, pet-friendly, nice, heavy couches. Well when we got junkers into our apartment to take away the old ratty couch, we found out that Teddy had slashed a huge hole in the bottom fabric of the couch and was using it like a damn bird's nest. For obvious reasons, this greatly concerned me. When we received the new couches, I went out and bought a brand new vertical scratching pole, put it beside the new couch, and we littered our apartment floor with the horizontal scratcher pads so the kitties would have plenty of alternatives besides our brand new (to us) couches. We even gave them treats every time they utilized the vertical scratcher to further incentivize its use. This worked wonders for about 2-3 months. My goal was to eventually have the free time/bandwidth/funds to take him to a professional in order to get his little claws capped so it would be impossible to eviscerate my more precious belongings.
Well joke's on me, today I turned the new couch over and found the biggest hole he has already torn out of the bottom in order to hide inside the structure. To say I'm exhausted and over it is such an understatement. In my mind, I did every single conceivable thing I could to deter him from giving my nice couch the same treatment the last ratty one received. I accomplished nothing. I need help, I need advice. I don't have the free time nor the bandwidth to play Under-The-Couch Cop with this 4 year-old cat, and tbch, I shouldn't have to. Nala has never had this problem and she would never. I spent real money on the alternatives, real money on the treats to incentivize them to use them. In Nala's case, it was a huge success. In Teddy's, almost as bad a failure as if I did nothing at all to mitigate this risk. At this point, even though I love him dearly, I'm starting to consider getting rid of Teddy. I hate the idea of not being able to own anything I don't want to get torn to pieces for the next 10 years, and there being nothing I can do about it as this cat has made it clear none of my considerable efforts to appease him in other ways besides eviscerating my expensive couch were/are enough for him. I don't know what to do, and my patience is gone.

2024.05.16 20:53 ThisAmericanSatire Always treat Cast Iron as if it is HOT or "How I burned the crap out of my thumb."

Hello pansexuals!
I'm a 7 year Cast Iron Veteran, and I'm here to tell all of you that even the best of us (and I include myself in that grouping) can do a little oopsie from time to time.
Case in Point: last night I burned my fingies.
Why?
How?
It's because I did not follow the #1 Rule of Cast Iron.
No, not the one about soap. Cripes, not the one about acidic food either. Neither of those matter.

Always assume every Cast Iron is hot.

My wife was in the kitchen and I asked her to preheat the oven. I thought my iron was already in the oven, and like any good pansexual, I like my iron to be evenly heated.
Well anyway, after a half hour, I go in the kitchen to start cooking when I noticed that my pan was still on top of the stove, and cold.
So I went to put it in the oven and it wouldn't go in all the way, and it turns out my small cast iron was in there.
This is where my squirrel-brain crossed its wires and assured me that, because the iron in my hands was cold, then the iron in the oven must also be cold.
Wrong!
But anyway, I reached right into the hot oven and grabbed ahold of the handle of a skillet that had preheated to 450°F (232°C in non-Freedoms).
This resulted in a major ouchy.
The only real explanation here is that my brain just decided not to think properly.
It's worth pointing out that I've had home-repair issues, financial issues, and health issues, and scheduling issues this past 10 days and have been a little stressed and not operating at 100%, and that probably contributed.
Nevertheless, it was an absolutely boneheaded move on my part. I'm 36 —aren't I supposed to have learnt this lesson at age 6?
My fingies hurt, and there's a pretty sick burn on my thumb pad - probably the #3 most painful & least convenient place to have a burn.
Sorta NSFW picture (no gore): https://imgur.com/a/9YaCK5L
Anyway, always assume every pan is hot!

2024.05.16 20:50 surtssword A Curious Blip In NBA History?

A Curious Blip In NBA History?
https://preview.redd.it/p4safspo4u0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88c2bb823b73307e96cc4b75b35f1335004bd86d
TL;DR - NBA officiating changes caused disparity between oldeyounger teams such that Nuggets were getting blown out by the T-Wolves, so they changed it back, and now the established teams (Nuggets/Mavs) are winning as the status quo should indicate.
I was just acutely aware of the fact that before Game 2 of Wolves/Nuggets and after Game 1 of OKC/Dallas, that there was an extreme shift of foul calling that clearly changed the course of both series.
We all know that the NBA started making rule changes this season, changing the way refs officiate physical play, which was lovingly referred to by certain Basketball pundits as 'prison ball'. This was, of course, praised widely by many of the old school Basketball talking heads, who always typically complain about the current era's lack of physicality/defense. And just so; as long as the rules are consistent, than change is not only warranted, but inevitable.
Fast-forward to the playoffs; it is widely acknowledged by players that there is a increase in physicality in the playoffs. So now officiating is in a pickle, do we continue with the current level of physicality or increase it as is the status quo.
So we see teams that are used to the old/standard regime of officiating, i.e. teams who have structured their strategies based on the previous rule set, and those who become more successful in the new paradigm because they are young and upcoming teams, based on health and physicality.
This all culminates in Game 2 of Wolves/Nuggets, when we see a complete breakdown. Jokic was flummoxed by the extra contact, and for good reason, if someone slaps you on the arm during every jump shot, then your going to have a hard time making baskets. He was complaining more than I'd ever seen him do before, because of the legitimate grievance of getting hammered on every play with no calls. Murray, also usually very composed, threw his heating pad in disgust after watching a no call on Towns (play was legit, but in real time, it looked like one of the most egregious travels in NBA history).
After seeing that the many players were getting hurt (an embellishing contact all the more because of it), and that it was having a profound effect on the continuity of the league, the NBA pulled the plug on the new rules and asked the officiating team to revert to old ways. They did, and now Dallas and Denver are winning nearly every game in both series, and it looks completely different before they did.
I don't blame Bill for flip-flopping in this instance, because that is how it played out real time. The nuggets were emotionally defeated after Game 2, and it looked impossible; based on the expectations of both teams, you would have to assume that the Wolves are world beaters to do what they did. What I DO blame him for, however, is missing this hot take which is in broad daylight. In this light, I will take up his mantle...
Conspiracy Corner: NBA paid pundits to look the other way so that this ridiculous misstep is lost to history. NBA also gave players a free trip to Guadalajara/ Kobe's doctor in Germany as compensation for the increased injuries, so we see miraculous recovery by those who were otherwise down and out (Luka's knee, Murray's injury, Gafford's hand, etc...). The status quo is maintained, and everyone looks the other way, dismissing this as a inconvenient blip in the history of the league. Billions are made. End of rant.

2024.05.16 20:39 Consistent_Put_465 Spicy husky - getting a new groomer?

I have a 13 yr.o plush husky. I acquired her from a less than ideal situation 6 years ago.
I deal with all the regular upkeep, ear cleaning and nail clipping, clipping the paw pads out every 2 weeks, sanitary trims, and we usually focus 1/2 hr every day on one side and do the other the next day. She’s not the unkempt dog you get twice a year for a full groom expecting a miracle, but as her prior owner shaved her, the situation isn’t ideal either.
I take her in twice a year during blow out season as the prior shaving makes the compaction under her guard hairs absolutely awful and I can’t get it out properly. I’ve tried several rakes and blades. And I just do not do a proper job and I’m scared of bacterial infections or hot spots if I can’t get to it properly.
Here’s the low down.
She’s horrific to groom. Absolutely more so than the breed standard.
She doesn’t bite, but the donkey kicking, pulling, growling and bluffing is very intense and she takes a very very long time to groom. I tip 40-50% of pre tax cost to anyone who takes her on because I know first hand how awful it is. I’m candid about this. Sometimes she adores her groomer and is great that day and the entire bath and blow out is 40 minutes. Other times she’s been there for three hours and they call me to collect and couldn’t finish the job because of her attitude. She is so-so behaved with me when I groom her.
But how do I approach a new groomer honestly about this and hopefully not get turned down.
How would you like a client to describe the situation and what would you want to hear to likely entice you to take on the dog? I get it’s at their discretion, I’m not blaming them by any means. I just don’t want to terrify them or lie, waste time and resources and crap on their schedule for the day and then never get a proper groom.
Or should I sincerely just ask a groomer to show me how to deal with compaction from the shaving and hope I can deal with this at home for now on? Do groomers enjoy showing clients how to deal with it?
Thanks

2024.05.16 19:50 ItEm55 Does my DSi XL have a faulty D-Pad?

https://reddit.com/link/1ctj03p/video/g4cc14bktt0d1/player
I managed to record myself using both my DSi XL and my DS Lite. I got this second hand DSi XL a few years ago. I managed to play Pokémon during this time, but not much.
Some months ago, when I tried to play Resident Evil DS or Mario 64, I noticed that hitting diagonals on the D-pad was very hard, making those game almost unplayable. In comparison, when I tried my DS Lite (bought in 2011 brand new and I played a lot with it), hitting diagonals still feels natural and I don't have to press hard on the D-pad.
Could the D-pad on my DSi XL be faulty?
I looked for information about this specific issue and found almost none so what gives?
If anyone is willing to test this out for themselves, be my guest. I just want to know if this is normal behavior or not so I can go and repair my unit.

2024.05.16 19:46 rookyruff What Mac/Ipad set up would suit me best?

Hi, I need your help to provide input about the mac/ipad arrangement I have in mind.
For more info about me, I will be working remotely and a hobbyist digital painter. My work doesn't require alot of RAM, and lately I have only been painting on Procreate. I intend to keep the iPad since it can work as painting tablet of some sort with the Mac. I also plan to do little video editing, nothing pro or high res, just for content type of videos. I also would like as little and less gadgets as possible since I have limited space in my room, so that's another point I'm considering.
My priority right now is that I should be able to work on desktop. At the moment I have iPad Pro 11 inches 3rd Gen, and am planning to buy a Mac—ps I only have budget for a second hand M1 Macbook or Mac Mini. I have ideas below, please let me know if it'll work.
  1. After buying the Mac, I am thinking of switching the iPad to mini 6 since it's more handy and convenient. But the RAM of mini 6 is so low and not sure if it'll work ok as side car for painting.
  2. Buy Mac Mini instead of Macbook and upgrade the iPad to bigger Pro. I like this set up because this is gonna save me space at home and easy for traveling. But the con is the cost, since I am upgrading a device along with a new purchase.
  3. Just get Mac and settle iPad later since new series are coming soon.
Let me know what do you think is best for budget, convenience, and performance for my activities. Appreciate it 🙏 Thank you.

Apple unveils AI-enhanced eye tracking, music haptics, voice shortcuts

Apple recently unveiled new accessibility features that will launch later this year. One of these features is Eye Tracking, which enables users with physical disabilities to navigate their iPhones and iPads using only their eyes.
By leveraging the front-facing camera and AI, Eye Tracking allows precise control through a “Dwell Control” feature, eliminating the need for additional hardware.

Another noteworthy addition is Music Haptics, designed for users who are deaf or hard of hearing. When enabled, the Taptic Engine in iPhones plays taps, textures, and refined vibrations synchronized with music audio.
Additionally, Apple has introduced Voice Shortcut, which allows users to create custom voice commands for specific actions on their devices. With Voice Shortcut, users can perform tasks hands-free by simply speaking their personalized commands

2024.05.16 19:38 GreatHornedRat_UWU Epithet Erased: Tales of Idiocy in Rongeford Jacob Marlowe Archetype: Dirty-Cop turned Hard-Boiled Detective Core Word: Grit

How's it goin'. I'm Detective Jacob Friggin' Marlowe, and welcome to the city of Rongeford. Here's the skinning on what to expect living here: it stinks, metaphorically and literally, no way around it; people enjoy the forestry, cheap bars, sceneries, and bears, but at the end of the day, Rongeford's a crime-stricken, proverty-crusted pool of crud, and guys like me have got to come and clean out the gutters every now and then.
What? No, I ain't talking no killing! Do I look like some Epithet-slinging Mook with a holier-than-thou complex?! I'm a friggin' cop, admittedly not the most straight an' narrow copper, but I make sure that the people in this city stay safe; if that means I have to play by the rules of the street in order to get my colleagues the evidence we need to put the worst scumbags away, then I've got a clean conscience.
Of course, that don't mean I don't work alone. Detective Greta Strommwell always has my back as a partner while we're on call. Sure, she's a bit of a brainiac, and it took a while for me to work with a friggin' Epi, but I don't see her that way no more. She's my partner, and if it weren't for her, I wouldn't be here speaking out into the outer universe through my meta-conscience-whatsits.
That got weird. Let's get to the friggin' character sheet!
Jacob Marlowe
Stamina: ☆☆☆☆☆ Proficiency: ☆☆☆☆ Creativity: ☆
□The hell's you lookin' at, pal?!
□Confused for a black bear by local hunters four separate times during search-and-rescue sweeps in the Rongeford Woodlands. (I AIN'T EVEN THAT FRIGGIN FAT, YAH MOOKS!)
□Close-friends know him as a huge cinephile, keeping a collection of old cinema movies, 1920s to late 50s Harrywood production reels and posters, at home. While he doesn't like to admit it, he also has a collection of early 70s to late 80s Mutown music and musicals, and has a 10-year subscription to the Online Mutown Records fan-club.
□Favoured weapons are his trusty 38. Detective Special "Bogart", several pairs of regular hand-cuffs (and the odd eraser handcuff, they don't come cheal) he throws like Bolas to entangle enemies, and a pair of brass knuckles.

2024.05.16 19:14 MotorCalm770 Pain associated with neck herniation

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for reading.
I am a 31 year old female. I don't drink, I use weed everyday, and I am in relatively good health overall (blood work always in good ranges, minimal issues, not often sick).
I work as a delivery driver for UPS, 45-50 hours a week average. For exercise, I alternate between strength training and cardio. Every day for an hour. I walk my dogs everyday for 1.5 hours total.
I eat fine. Better than most of my peers. Lots of veggies and protein. My biggest issue is eating enough food.
Last year around the end of May, I experienced intense pain starting at the top of my rotater cuff all the way down to my hips and under my armpits around my ribs. I try to continue about my day because the pain started at work. I am unloading a large amount of 20+ lb boxes and my hands fail. I drop the box, luckily it was coming off the cart so it was already like an inch from the floor. At this point my hand and shoulder are tingly and nunb. I go to the workers comp clinic concentra, get an x ray, they determine it's "soft tissue damage".
I went through 3 months of shitty physical therapy, 3 chiropractor visits, and then finally an mri where they said the issue might be herniation in my neck but they were unable to view it with the images they took and since the original complaint was about my back and shoulder, they can't image my neck.
I give up on workers comp figuring it out and turn to my primary care doctor. I explain everything to him, including offering to get the images concentra took so he could see what they are talking about. He suggests I start physical therapy at kaiser and then go from there and manage my pain with naproxen in the mean time.
I finally get an appointment for PT at kaiser and it feels like the same run around I got at concentra. I ask for neck specific exercises since I've noticed the pain begins in my neck just under my jaw. Sometimes it manifests as a migraine, most days it's just feels sore in my shoulder blade and my neck.
It's November at this point.
In December, I am slammed against the wall and floor several times and had elbows and knees shoved into my shoulder blade while face down on the floor. I suffered what was assumed to be a concussion and pain levels doubled.
Now, I get concussion headaches that are definitely separate from the migraines. I continue to manage the pain with naproxen and exercise. Some days, the pain is too much and I can't even walk the dogs.
I've brought up the headaches to my doctor and he suggested managing it with effexor, which I definitely don't want to do and I think covers up the actual problem rather than addressing it.
What's the best way to approach this? Should I have gotten any scans during this time? My insurance is through the roof, everything is covered or very very low cost. How do I tell my doctor I don't feel like I'm receiving the best care? Or am I just being whiney? Is this one of those situations where it's this or surgery? I'd rather avoid surgery as long as possible.

Ghost rider’s hands removable?
Does anyone know if the hands are removable on the legendary riders Ghost Rider figure? I wanted to put the skeletal hands from the retro carded Ghost Rider figure on him but they are really tight and I don’t want to mistakenly break them. I was just wondering if anyone knows for a fact that they can be removed and swapped or not. It appears that the forearm mold is different on the new retro one since he doesn’t have cuffs for the gloves

2024.05.16 18:45 Bacin87 Looking for remote control options for my kids iPad pro

Hello all, My issue is pretty self-explanatory I'm looking for an additional remote control for my kiddos iPad pro. Their hands are a little small and they said the Xbox remote control is a little too big. And because we have the iPad pro my kiddo doesn't like using the USB c able to connect their backbone to it. Has anyone enjoyed using the PlayStation's new remote control or any of the 8-bit remotes. I have the 8-bit remotes for my Sega classic and my Nintendo classic that I haven't had any issues with but before I start buying more figured I'd reach out to the community.
