2024.05.17 00:28 Visible_Hold_1739 Working On Agoraphobia!

So anyone who has agoraphobia knows how hard it can be! Recently I started listening to “The Anxious Truth” podcast &’ although I felt completely called out on my actions and behaviors, it definitely made me change the way I think.
On Monday I started my recovery journey from agoraphobia. I went to the post office and felt good, then got super hot and anxious going farther into my town towards a park. Instead of driving right back home I decided to go back around and go to the store and get a snack THEN go home! Mini progress but I did it!
Yesterday, I went to the bank, my anxiety was already super high even tho I had take an Ativan (it’s super low dose but since I don’t want to up my dose I’m working with the anxiety). I got money and then went into a local Albertsons which omg I hate going in there BUT I did it anyways. My hands were shaking so bad but I grabbed some flowers &’ checked out! THEN this is the best part hehe! I went into the local bakery which was completely packed and I swear I felt like yup I need to leave, I’m going to gain BUT I said heck no I wanted my pastry for over a month so badly that I sucked it up and just waited in line. Right as I was up next a huge group of people came in behind me and were super in space which also makes me uncomfortable. But again sucked it up and finally I was able to order &’ when I walked out I felt so good! So accomplished!
I know it was only my 2nd day really trying to challenge my agoraphobia but it makes me feel optimistic about overcoming this and hopefully being able to get a job in the following months!

2024.05.17 00:18 Any-Commercial6456 Didn’t get to finish post-charting

I just started Scribe America and it was my first solo shift. I didn’t get to finish half of the charts since we use IKM and the notes can’t be opened anymore. I talked to my chief scribe and she said it was okay to finish it at home due to be having to take care of something. I feel so lame I don’t know what to do, will I get in trouble?

2024.05.17 00:16 Latter-Elevator7630 Why didn't Filipinos drive out the Spanish?

The Spanish conquered the Philippines with only a few hundred men.
There was no disease that killed off 90% of the population like in the Americas.
Why couldnt you guys kick out a few hundred spaniards that were very far from home? Also how did they consolidate power for so long? Doesn't make sense to me.

2024.05.17 00:11 Brilliant_Tomatillo1 Aitah for being a "karen" to the property manager?

For some context my Husband 31M, and I 25F. Moved into this apartment about six months ago. We were living in a house with the intent to buy it, but because our landlord didn't make his mortgage payments, the bank too back the house we were living in. We were scrambling to find an apartment that would allow us to have our animals and not cost us an arm and a leg. We finally found one and the apartment wasn't "ready" when we moved in. ( we were on a time crunch and would take what we could get). The original plan was to move to a two bedroom when one became available, but we ended up liking the size and location of the one we were in. We told the previous manager ( who never did anythig) this, but we're firm that we wanted a heat pump. (If you don't know what this is, it is a combo heat and AC unit). Every other apartment in the complex has one except us. (The previous tenants broke it). He said "no problem!" We will get that in for you ASAP. 2 months go by and we haven't heard anything. I called the company and it turns out, that property manager is no longer there and there is a new one, who knew nothing about it. I will admit, they were fast in getting a quote or two, but it has been like pulling teeth to get any information on where we are in the process. Here is where I might be the AH. Yesterday was extremely hot for this time of year, and we came home to both of our animals panting and laying on the little bit of tile we have. We have them plenty of water and took them for a ride in the car with the AC on full blast. I called today and told them that this is getting ridiculous and we really need at least an update of where they are in the process. They told me to "calm tf down" and "chill tf out". They said they would contact me with more information, and I needed to stop calling. I have called maybe 5 times about this in the past 4 months. I worry that the apartment is becoming unsafe for my animals and us. So AITAH?

2024.05.17 00:10 bv310 Got robbed, buying new driver and irons, some advice needed

So I got home from a work trip last week to find my house robbed and mildly trashed. In trying to haul my tv out the window, I guess they stepped on my bag and bent/cracked a bunch of my clubs. I've been using a relatively cheap TPS set for a few years, so I'm looking to make the most of this situation and buy some good quality that'll last me for a while.
I'm a low-mid golfer overall, but I've been doing lessons and slowly improving. I still slice, but I've been bringing it slowly more to the center, and am fairly confident in my iron game. Usually shoot in the neighbourhood of 95-100 on my home course, which is a par 74, and coming down.
Thankfully, I was able to salvage my 3&4 hybrid irons, putter, and 3-wood from my crushed set, so it makes buying easy. Right now, I'm looking at either the TaylorMade Qi Max series or the Callaway AI Smoke drivers, and their related Iron sets. I've tested them for a few practice swings and liked the feel of both. Is one better-regarded than the other? Is there another maker I should be looking to test out? The replacement money is coming from insurance, so I don't mind spending a few extra bucks to get a really nice set.

2024.05.17 00:03 CandyMaterial3301 What would you do? 34 year old with almost 2 million

Hi everyone - long time lurker here but never posted here before. I posted in a different group last year but wanted more advice from you guys.
I am looking for some guidance on what I should do with my money based on my financial information and history.
In short: I am an attorney with my own small law firm. I've been practicing for 9 years. I started my own law firm 4.5 years ago. Generally, I make about $200,000 a year net income from my law firm but had two very large settlements in the last two years where I took home 2.5-3 million in legal fees pre tax. I do not have those types of settlements coming in the future based on my current caseload. I spend about $150,000 marketing a year to make close to $350,000 or so if you exclude the two big settlements.
I have truly been fortunate but need to decide my next financial moves and have been very conservative with my money since those settlements.
As for my personal life, I am not married but hopefully will be in the next couple years. I do want kids and hopefully that can happen in the next 3-5 years. I live in a high cost of living area in California.
CASH: Approx $1.8 million, mostly in treasuries and savings accounts (all yielding from 4-5 percent and maturing in the next few months) while figuring out what my plan is.
RETIREMENT: $250k in the S&P 500 (SEP IRA)
COST OF LIVING IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: With Rent (approx $5000 - i know high); insurance; food and going out; utilities; student loan payment; travel; etc...I spend about $9 or 10k/month
We will exclude my business expenses as those are investments in my law firm..
LAW FIRM NET INCOME:
2020: Approx -50k
2021: Approx 100k
2022: Approx 2.3million (approx 2 million of it came from one very large settlement which I poured all my energy and time into)
2023: Approx 750k (approx 500k from one settlement)
First 5 months of 2024: Approximately 100k
If you were me, outside of putting it back in the business, how would you split up the investing here?
Would you by a home, condo or townhouse? It is very expensive in California but I am spending about 5k/month now on rent.
Would you put it all/some in the S&P 500?
Thanks in advance

2024.05.17 00:01 miniscule_memories Two Year Anniversary (of being heartbroken).

i’m going to make this as informative but also short as possible. Two years ago today, I (22F) had seen a suspicious text on my boyfriend (27)s phone. I opened his phone and to my dismay I found Grindr as one of his recently used apps. It came as an utter shock to me, because we had been together a year and a half at this point, lived together, and had been through a serious car flipping car accident 2 months prior. He was sending nudes and talking to a guy while at work that day. I called off of work, but was supposed to work that evening when he came home. In these messages he told the guy exactly when he worked until, and — like i said sent nudes of himself to this stranger. My heart broke and I pretty much disconnected from the relationship then. I confronted him, cried my eyes out, and he said to me “can you look less heartbroken about it?” Told me he never planned on hooking up, it was just a “fantasy thing” he’d jerk off to, and move on.
We moved on - tried to at least. And he went on to download grindr again behind my back at least two more times. I discovered this by going through his phone at random times. He wasn’t honest, and said the “text verification code was from Sonic”, (and at first my dumbass believed him til i later put two and two together and remembered just a few months prior what happened).
The latest occurrence was January. I found him on gay 4Chan porn. While porn is not bad, he had told me before he “swore off all porn except for the stuff we’ve made,” so the fact he was lying to me - and seeking out men again just hurt me again. Ever since then I haven’t had any issues with him and porn, nor do I really care at this point. I’ve been hurt so many times. So why stay? Because we both know I have nowhere to go.
I can’t drive, my knees are messed up from the accident so I am “transportation reliant.” My father told me i’m never invited back home “no matter what,”. And my mother is an unstable addict.
I know it’s on me to get out of this situation, but yesterday was the two year anniversary. To see what little progress I’ve made (due to unforeseen circumstances and the fact we’ve tried to make it work but he keeps FUCKING UP!) is really bringing me down. I really do not know where to go from here besides to keep saving money. I live in a state where Rent for a 1Bdrm (no utilities) is $800 a month at the least. If i’m transportation dependent, i need to factor in lyft/uber as monthly costs too. Currently in school, student loans will need paid back. As for the car, (another thing i’ll have to pay eventually), I have to get surgery to repair my knees - which insurance doesn’t seem to want to approve yet.
I hope he doesn’t cheat on me again , I can’t imagine how it’ll turn out for him or me. He’s already done it 4 times!

2024.05.16 23:54 obsidianswerld I may have been involved in a hit and run, not sure how to proceed

The police department is asking me for a statement and I have not contacted them back for a month. They came and took pictures of my vehicle because I allegedly drove home after the accident. The police and victims both identified me as the driver but I do not want to admit that it was me, because I am already fighting 8 felonies. The truth is I cannot afford my car payment anymore and I actually do not want the vehicle, so how do I get my car totaled and the police off my back? Located in California. And also is it possible for the insurance to report back to the police, if I do tell the insurance that I did it?

2024.05.16 23:50 PF_Throwaway98 (USA) Looking for some advice on my current financial situation. Can I afford a $650 car payment? (26)

My old Honda Civic is starting to bite the curb and I was recently quoted $4,000 to repair a bunch of things in it. Since it's close to 150,000 miles, I'm thinking of just getting my first new car instead. I broke down all of my costs and my current financial situation, and I'd really appreciate any feedback.
Here's a basic breakdown of my income & expenses:
Income
Investing & Savings
Expenses
After my expenses & investments/savings, I have about $2,330 left for everything else.
The car I'm looking to get is a 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited, with $8,000 downpayment and the dealership 3.99% APR, I'd be looking at a $650 car payment with a $130 car insurance payment, which would bring my take home down to $1550. Is this a smart move? Are my finances okay in general?
Willing to answer any and all questions and would love any and all advice, thank you!

UK-London
Hi Reddit,
I recently received an unexpected notice from my letting agency, informing me that my tenancy agreement will not be renewed, despite having already negotiated and signed a renewal contract. I am looking for advice on how to handle this situation.
Here's the full context:
Key Points from My Response to the Agency:
I am deeply upset by this sudden turn of events, especially considering the previously positive relationship with the landlady and my efforts to accommodate reasonable requests.
I would appreciate any advice on:
Thank you in advance for your help!

"The landlord, having considered the highly sensitive nature of your work and disruption caused to you by the necessary work at the building to ensure compliance with the new government guidelines and the safety of all occupants, and that it will be necessary for further appointments for surveyors or workmen to attend where it cannot be guaranteed they will always be on time or turn up at the appointed time, has decided that it is not in either parties interest to renew the tenancy and wishes you well in your next home. Therefore you will shortly be receiving formal notice, Section 21, to end the tenancy on the 25th July"

2024.05.16 23:42 Top-Pin4902 Considering Finance or Business Management

I’m turning 30 this year (in case that matters to anyone lol) and have about 55 credit hours from three different schools (I moved quite a bit from 2015 to 2020), some of those hours were pretty niche, but majority are gen-ed.
Before 2021 I had zero experience/exposure to anything finance related. Once my wife and I found out she was pregnant with our first child I began looking for a different job (job at the time didn’t offer health insurance) and began to seriously consider building a career.
I had friend that worked at a big-name bank that helped land me a job starting out as a teller. After a year at the bank I transitioned into my current role as a client associate at a big-name B/D. Over the last 5 months, I self-studied and passed the SIE, Series 7 & 66 each on my first attempt (praise the Lord).
Now that I am fully registered, I want to begin moving towards obtaining the CFP (I know it wont be easy and that it’s significantly more challenging than the 7 & 66). I love the industry (and people), and want to continue to develop myself in order to better care and provide for my family.
I don’t think much of college (IMO it’s scam - YMMV), however, it’s required to get my CFP. My firm offers tuition assistance that should fully pay for me to complete my degree at WGU - which is a blessing.
That being said: I believe the Finance degree would be more suitable, but I wondered if I would be able to finish the Business Management program faster. I’m not looking for something to be “easy”, but I would prefer to be efficient with my time and energy.
I know that this largely is subjective, but still would like to know your thoughts. Thanks in advance for your time and input!

2024.05.16 23:42 Wataflaka First firearms purchase ever, questions.

Hi, everyone.
Quick question to those with more experience than me. I’m going to go to a local FFL to purchase my first firearms this weekend. I’ve taken the past few weeks to learn more about gun safety, self defense statues, and feeling more comfortable handling firearms overall. & of course, range time with an instructor. Getting tired of having to rent guns every time I visit, so I think I’m ready to own now.
I’ve been reading about how you could be on some “list” if you purchase a lot of firearms within a certain time period. Not sure if that’s the case everywhere.
My plan this weekend is to get:
1x shotgun for home defense. 1x AR-15 mostly for the range. 1x 9MM for home defense and possibly EDC. 1x Micro 9MM cuz I like how compact they are and easy to conceal. 1x revolver because I shot 2 different ones and loved them. XX a bunch of ammo to practice with all the weapons above at my local range.
My question is, should I expect a visit from the FTA or my local sheriff based on this purchases in one shot? Pardon my ignorance but I’m coming from one of the most restrictive states to own a gun where you even need a background check to buy ammo. (Hint)
Side note: paying in cash since I work in the banking/finance industry and I know card processors are starting to track firearms purchases done with credit/debit cards. Plus I just want to protect my privacy overall. & yes, I’ve got my LTCF.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks,

2024.05.16 23:41 Perfect-Poet1431 How would I report a suspected credit card skimmer at an airport?

I recently came home from a trip to Atlanta, and the day after I got home I started getting some strange charges on my debit card to food places around Atlanta that I definitely didn't go to. I caught it very quickly and didn't lose that much money on it, but I think I've pinpointed where it was compromised to be a vending machine that was in the Atlanta airport - as that was the only place I used my debit card before the charges started happening. When I called my bank they told me something about how if I suspected skimming I would need to contact the merchant so they can investigate their machine but I'm not sure how I would go about doing that for an airport that I don't live anywhere near. I live in Texas and returned home days ago.
How would I go about informing the airport of this?

2024.05.16 23:38 veganjew10 The words 'settlers' and 'settlements'

What do the words 'settlement'/'settlers' mean in the state of Yisrael and what are the words being used in Hebrew? I'm still learning and so can't read Hebrew news articles.
In the United States and in other Western countries, these words have implications of guilt and wrongdoing. They mean going to someone's land you have no connection to and taking it from them. Like when Europeans went to another continent and stole land from other people.
Jews living in Yehudah and Shomron (Incorrectly referred to as the 'West Bank') are not 'settlers'. This was originally part of our land. This is as strange and factually incorrect as if the Cherokee tribe in the Americas or the Maori in Australia decolonized and reclaimed their land but were being referred to as 'settlers' by white people.
It's basically like if someone attacked you and you defended yourself but kept calling yourself the perpetrator and confusing people. Or if someone stole your jacket and you ran after them, grabbed it back then started calling yourself a thief.
Note that I'm NOT talking about whether you personally agree with Jews living in Gaza, Yehudah, and Shomron. I'm asking what those words mean to people in Yisrael and what the Hebrew words you use in reference to them are.
