This post is to share my study journey and maybe give someone who's on the fence or questioning themselves some perspective. I'll start off by saying I am a US-IMG from a Caribbean school and I just passed Step 1 on my first try. I am aware different students from different schools have different schedules, and I know mine is probably very different to most.
I started dedicated on January 2nd and took Step 1 on April 29th so I spent a total of almost 4 months studying. I studied from 8:00am until 4 or 6pm depending on the topic and how long it took me. I refused to study at night lol I hate it with every fiber of my being lmao. I studied 6 days a week with only one day off to spend with friends or family and decompress.
I only really did UWorld in tutor mode and untimed, because I only meant to use it as a study tool, not to test myself and I knew the scores would humble me lol. I've always been a good test taker and time management has never been an issue for me, thankfully so that was another reason as well. I did 2 blocks of 40 questions daily and I would review all of them and their explanations, regardless of whether I got it right or wrong because UWorld explanations are always helpful and I found there was always something that I didn't know in the paragraphs. I would supplement with First Aid when I thought I still didn't understand something or felt that I needed a more concise description of it. I finished all of Uworld like a month before taking Step 1 so I would just redo my incorrects in the topics I was consistently struggling with based on the NBMEs I would take. Here's my timeline and scores and how I used the NBMEs for learning and studying:
Jan. 24 - NBME 25: 45% Super humbling start lol. Had to search on here to see if it was one of the worst ones and most people agreed it was so that gave me peace of mind. It was also very heavy on anatomy, cell bio and genetics, which I hadn't even touched up until that point so I knew it was to very expected.
Feb. 26 - NBME 26: 59% I didn't expect for my score to increase so much so soon but it was a very pleasant surprise. I had reviewed my previous NBME (all the questions) and took the score report and did a ranking on disciplines and systems each from 'worst' to 'best' and adjusted my study schedule around those topics I did worst on and did lighter studying on those I was good on. I think this helped my score increase the most. I scheduled my school's CBSE for a month from this date based on this score, and increased my NBME frequency to one every two weeks instead of one a month.
Mar. 18 - NBME 27: 66% I was super happy with the result at this point. Didn't think I'd improve so much in just two weeks but I took that as a sign my study methods were working. Again, reviewed the test and ranked the disciplines and systems from 'worst' to 'best' and adjusted and rearranged my study schedule based on that. I also started comparing each ranking to the previous one from here on out, to see how much improvement I'd done in each discipline and system, if I remained the same or if there were any that had dropped in score. I took everything in consideration and adjusted based on what the scores were saying first and how confident I felt second. This was huge as well.
Apr. 1 - CBSE: 67% I'm not sure how it works in other schools but my CBSE happened at the testing center I was going to take the Step 1 at as well. It felt much harder than the previous NBME I'd taken and I felt like I didn't understand most of the questions but I was also sleep deprived (test center is 2 hours away from me so I had to wake up at 4am to avoid traffic, and anxiety didn't let me sleep much so I was on 4 hours of sleep total). Swore I had bombed it when I walked out but clearly I did much better than I thought. I scheduled my Step 1 based on this score for the end of the month.
Apr. 15 - NBME 28: 60% This absolutely terrified me and I started doubting everything. First time my score dropped since I'd started dedicated. I came on here to see what the general consensus was on this form and I found it was actually the hardest based on statistics on a youtube video from a counselor who helps med students in Step 1 prep. I calmed down and decided there was bound to be an outlier and so I took another a week after to really see if it was a fluke.
Apr. 22 - NBME 29: 70% It was a fluke confirmed lol. I had some peace of mind at this point based on my scores alone but I was still absolutely terrified regardless. What if it wasn't enough? What if all the questions on Step 1 ended up being on all my weakest topics? By this point I was so tired and burnt out and just wanted to get this all over with. I decided to trust the consistency of my scores above my feelings.
Apr. 27 - New Free 120: 73% I debated whether to take this one or not because I was so scared I'd to terrible on it and it would crush my confidence going into Step 1 in two days. I knew it was the most indicative of performance though so I had to do it. It felt so much easier than the NBMEs, it gave me even more peace of mind.
Apr. 29 - Step 1: PASS I was sleep deprived, again. I went into each block with the mentality that this was going to be the block that would save my score and make me pass. Quite a few gimmes, others that I truly wasn't sure if I had the right logic or not, but I ultimately trust my gut and knowledge and I do not change answers unless I am 1000% sure my choice was wrong or I missed something in the question that proves me wrong. Overall, I came out of it knowing I have it my best but also feeling VERY unsure. Thanks to this site, I knew this was normal and all that was left to do was wait.
I received my score this morning. Earlier than I thought I would get it tbh. I was terrified to open it but I did it and I couldn't be happier with the results. I hope this helps somebody and feel free to ask me any questions! Trust your scores and your knowledge, you guys got this!

Out of all the children's shows created by any network in the past decade, I have never seen such a creative series as the Owl House! While I have not been able to watch the entire series, the Owl House fandom wiki helped me get up to speed (fyi: I saw only S1E1, S2E9, and all of season 3). I decided to invest some time into this series thanks to the roar it has created on my Disney parks fan forum, and on the Disney Television Animation Insta. Let me break it down:
Art/Animation:
Very fun, surrealistic animation that reminds me of Dali and Japanese anime, the animation is very creative and imaginative, and I would love to get a panoramic poster of the Boiling Isles on my wall! I love the minimalistic character design, in that it is not the 3D Pixar style animation I was used to when I was a kid in the late 2000s-early 2010s ( which is why I loved the expressionist Mickey Mouse cartoons 2013-2023). While my style of horror is more Lovecraftian and science-fiction in nature, I can appreciate the macabre from time to time (shoutout to Walt Disney's Haunted Mansion!).
Themes and Storytelling:
While I cannot speak for all of season 1 or 2, season 3 was very well thought out, following a classic three act format. I also loved the shoutout to the pseudo-Star Trek series Luz's mother watched (I am a Star Trek Fan). While I could not originally stomach the awkwardness of the pilot, it later grew onto me, and I decided to give it another shot on Disney's official Youtube (where I watched all of the episodes I was able to watch, I cancelled D+ due to budget reasons). Season 2, Episode 9 was a fun romp, and reminded me of the adventures of Star Wars Rebels or Avatar: TLA, where a "filler episode" would later have large consequences for the future.
I also am similar to the "weirdos" that the characters in TOH characterize themselves as thanks to my slight neurodivergence, unconventional political and social positions, and I am an old soul (my favorite artists include Nat King Cole, Blondie, Billy Joel, and The Clash). So, I didn't have many friends in elementary-high school, but they were similar to the personalities of the characters in TOH. I knew Willow, Luz, Gus, and Amity in my life as types of people that I was friends with. I am also intrigued by the government of the Boiling Isles (BI), which appears to be a totalitarian state, similar to the USSR or Germany in the 30s and 40s, with a charismatic dictator, who is bent on total societal control to the point that it is ridiculous, even by Orwellian standards. I imagine the team started a democracy after the overthrow of Belos. My only knock on the themes of this series is 1) This should have been an adult cartoon because of how mature it is for a TV-Y7 rating, and 2) I have some disagreements with the series' philosophies due to some of my spiritual convictions, but I think that it is necessary to engage in disagreeable art.
World Building:
The BI is one of the best created worlds for a series or work of media ever, in that there is a well detailed place, with its own society, government, natural fauna and flora, and highly detailed environment. The people that live there interest me the most. The "witches" appearance remind me of a lighter skinned version of the Vulcans, their society in Belos' era is structurally rigid despite being progressive in other regards, and their cuisine looks about as tasty as stinky tofu (I have tried, it was a bad experience). I find it odd that the other major intelligent species on the Isles, Demons, are called such despite not possessing people or being of a spiritual nature. I think a more accurate name for them would be "trolls" or "monsters", but that's just my opinion.
Overall:
I enjoyed what little I watched of this series, and I hope that more series like it can be created as it has a creative vitality that is unmatched in all of animation. We need more series like these, especially when creativity is given a blank cheque for freedom. Thanks for reading!

Hi everyone, I've been on YouTube for a while now, my account is probably older than some YouTubers have been alive even, it's crazy to think how much Youtube has changed the world and that so many young Gen Z people today don't remember life before Youtube. But anyways, I'm looking to start making my channel active on YouTube and had some questions for everyone, I appreciate anyone who engages in good faith.
-What is the best recommended video editing software to use that is free and also takes into account a simple and understandable interface? I'm not a complete novice, I've used different things before but I don't have a lot of advanced experience like professionals who work on big budget films or anything and I don't actively edit. I'm sure technology for video editing software has continued to evolve over time and I have fallen behind the times, what's all the good new stuff nowadays? I'm just a normal tech savvy-ish person. Just looking for something that has depth and good features to it but not too overwhelming to where the advanced features become more of a distraction rather than anything else. (This question hits two birds with one stone too because I'm a teacher who needs to choose a software to use for editing video clips together for the school I work for as well.)
-I have been on YouTube for a while now, my account was made in 2006 and I have only sporadically uploaded over the years with no goal in mind other than to just upload for fun. I uploaded a couple of videos of talks with celebrities in 2021 got some nice view numbers from 10k-70k (imo as a non-active channel with just 350something subs). Should I continue uploading on my personal account or start from a brand new account? I was thinking to myself, does my account's longevity help with anything at all? Or the videos I just mentioned? I even have a video that was uploaded in 2006. Would audiences care about the old stuff or just new stuff? The thing is too, I know Youtubers get hacked too the more well known you become and if one day (I don't mean to be presumptuous here either by implying I know I will be well known or not, it's just me thinking ahead and being ready) but if I get hacked one day, that in and of itself will suck but I think about all my personal content on YouTube that I've added over the years that I don't want to lose or private videos i don't want others to see out there. This would technically be at risk too. Anyways, these are just some thoughts I've had, I'm wondering what best practices would be. Just make that new channel or maybe move all my personal things into a new channel and make my "old channel" the "new channel".
-Reality is I get busy, I don't plan on starting this project until I'm in a lifestyle where I'm allowed to put in the grind and hours of being a youtuber but if in the event I get a following and then I need to take a break or anything what should I do? Does your momentum suddenly stop and subscribers just leave on their own after not seeing you for a while or do they stick around?
-What's the best thing I should do to work the algorithm in my favor? In terms of best practices when uploading a video, being searchable, and what I should tell subscribers to do when watching? beyond basic hashtags I suppose or hitting like, commenting, and subscribing like everyone else says.
-I think most people will say it's good to have a specific brand or concept/idea for your channel but what if I personally want some variety? (like vlogging, podcasting, video game plays, unboxings, reviews, etc.) Is this just a non-negotiable to just pick one thing and stick to it?
-Should I think about my target audience or just do what I want and leave it to the people to decide if my stuff is good and relevant to them?
-At what point do you start making money from Youtube and this becomes a professional career as opposed to just a hobby? Is it based on views and such? How do you get paid? Is there any extra signing up I have to do beyond just having my YouTube account? Money isn't a huge motivating factor, i don't expect Logan Paul or Mr.beast numbers but it'd be nice to know that making videos could become modest side income or regular income in the future too.

I have been trying to find this one anime which was mentioned in those youtube reddit compilations (I think the theme was how siblings got revenge on their spoiled siblings or something like that?). The OP mentioned that the anime was about teenagers locked in a school and either there was a serial killer amongst them or they just started dying in mysterious ways. The anime was supposed to be very gruesome and the OP also recalled a scene where a character walked into a bathroom where there was one other side character who had either died or unalived themselves in a bathtub.
I've been trying to find this out for some time but can't seem to figure out exactly the right one nor find the original post. The closest one I got was danganronpa but I don't think it has that bathroom scene. (I haven't watched danganronpa so I'm not entirely sure).

Hello. I am a 21 year old who dropped out of highschoold to get a GED (my last year of highschool was during the pandemic, and it affected my mental health alot.). I would really like to study astrophysics on my own.
I've got a few probelms though. From around grade 7 (first year of junior high) to the end of grade 10(first year of high school), I did not attend school, again, due to my mental health. I was homeschooled, and never studied maths or science. Somehow passed all of my tests, but I have almost no understanding of any topics. Even in highschool, I never studied anything.
There were a few posts about learning astrophysics, but I would like to have a much deeper understanding than youtube videos that were suggested in those threads. I know attending university would be the best course of action, but no university would accept a highschool dropout I think, and I could not keep up anyway.
Could someone suggest a roadmap for me to follow (self-study), so that one day I can contribute to our understanding of the universe. Thank you in advance!

He is one of the best producers working today and the album is no exception. This is his fourth release and it was released with two versions Online was released on streaming services and Offline the version I am reviewing was released on bandcamp, youtube and soundcloud. He released two versions because of sample clearance issues. The album opens with “Trust!” The instrumental has this nice breezy sound as does his JPEGS flow. A nice chilled out way to start this album. “Dirty!’ Creates this dense industrial production. JPeg has a more aggressive flow on this one. “Nemo” is the first track that has a snippet of wrestler Edge theme music. It always gets me hyped up when the phrase you think you know me hits. The song mixes a chilled but aggressive instrumental. “End Credits!” has this heavy rock sound. It rocks so hard. It reminds me of the production of Scarring The Hoes. “Hazard Pay Duty” contains a sample of Anita Baker And The Winans song “Ain't No Need To Worry” that gives it a soulful sound that is chopped up between the drum beats. “God Don’t Like ugly” continues that soulful sound this time from a sample of Psalms from Thomas Whitfield. I love the production on “What Kinda Rappin Is This” . It has this industrial chilled out vibe. It feels icy and cold. I really love his flow on the track fast but still constant cadence. “Thot’s Prayer” begins with a gospel sample from Richard Smallwood and the gospel group vision. It soon transitions into this cool jazzy instrumental that feels hazy as well. An excellent sample of Britney’s Baby One More Time is just genius producing. “Are You Happy?” has JPEG doing this great fast but chill flow over this cool 90’s R&B style instrumental. “Rebound” has this nice sense of Urgency sonically and lyrically. “100 Emoji” has this funky but dense sound that feels very rough and industrial. “OG” is straight out of the 80’s from his flow and production. A nice homage to the golden age of hip hop. “Dikembe” has this cool psychedelic jazz instrumental thanks to the sample of Stan Getz Saudade Vem Correndo” JPEG has this hypotonic flow that gets you lost in the track. “Tired, Nervous, And Broke” has a haze surrounding it. JPEG’s flow is fast fire which is a great contrast to the chilled jazzness of the instrumental. “Flame” has this cool sultry instrumental which is a nice change of pace for the record. It has a real 70’s soul mixed with those great drum beats. “Nice” has this call to arms marching but jazzy beats. It feels like a very public enemy mixed with Miles Davis. “BMT” continues that heavy dense sound. I love JPEG’s flow on this one. “The Ghost Of The ranking Dead” has a nice vocal feature from Tkay Maidza. It gives off an old school 90’s R&B vibe. Once again JPEG’s flow changes with the production. “Dam Dam Dam” has this great synth introduction that transitions perfectly when JPEG enters the track. The album opens with “Untitled” that has JPEG doing his best Eminem tribute. From that funked out instrumental and the eminem style spit fire flow. I can dig it. This album sonically is just a work of genius. It changes style song to song but never feels out of place. I read that people don’t think JPEG isn't a great rapper but I enjoyed his flow throughout the record. For the first time in ~10 years, I'm in a mental place where I feel like I don't exhibit symptoms of clinical depression - so yay for that!
For a long time, doctors have attributed most of my issues to said chronic depression - and I concede, the depression was certainly not helping. But the diagnosis of said depression (and also, y'know, being a woman) means that most doctors never believed me that I might have ADHD - I had to beg them to have me complete diagnostic questionnaires.
Every time I take one of these, I score right on the edge between ADHD and neurotypical-ness (same with autism, btw). And next, the doctors say "yep, might be ADHD" and then they do fucking NOTHING. No meds other than anti-depressants, no recommendations what to do next. Nothing.
Now that I can finally see what life feels like with no (or very slight) depression, I can assess myself more clearly. And some issues have stuck:
So, that was my "little" rant. I'm glad I was finally able to write something down in a more or less structured way (even though I'm sure I forgot a lot of things). Maybe that will help me convince psych people at some point. Feel free to comment if you relate or have thoughts.

- I have very little energy, even for things I want and like to do. The only thing that doesn't take energy from me is watching YouTube and crochet/knitting. Even my other "safe" hobby, which is video games, sometimes feels exhausting. A movie, audiobook or netflix is too much commitment because I can't stay focused and lose track of what's happening. Social events is something I need to recover from, even if I like them and need them in order to not feel lonely.
- I have a very hard time to get started with things, especially with things that require planning / communication with others / multiple steps. I can only do some things when there are deadlines or I'm being forced by an outside factor. That means I can keep up with most things that I have to do (doing the dishes, paperwork, paying bills etc.) but cannot do optional things that would benefit me or that I would like to do (booking a vacation, doctor's visits for stuff that won't kill me, attending a dance class). Even at work, if I don't have an urgent deadline, I work very slowly or not at all. This has cost me a job before and the main reason I don't have issues with my current job is because I now work for my mom.
- My only reasonably productive time is from 4pm to 10 pm. On good days, that is. And when I'm being "productive", I feel its still worse than what a "normal" person would be able to do on a normal day. Also, working in the evening is shitty for my social life.
- Rejection sensitivity is still going through the roof.
- If I manage to get started with something, I need to do it and finish it RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW. If I have to take a break, all the motivation and flow is GONE.
- On the othere hand, if there is something I have to do but don't like doing, that's a massive emotional burden. I can only do baby steps until I need a break, someone has to watch over me so that I can keep going, it takes five times longer than it should and I feel terrible. As a kid, I used to cry for hours when doing boring, hard or otherwise "stupid" homework. At 27, I cry while filing paperwork.
- Sticking to routines is hard. Ever since I finished school, my daily routine has degraded and COVID killed what was left. "Brushing my teeth twice daily and getting dressed within an hour of getting up" has been one of my new year's resolutions. This is the only point where I have noticed some clear improvements lately when my depression get better.

Reagan is — I say this with respect and admiration — completely full of shit.
We weren’t assigned to a haunted Victorian townhouse repurposed into a dormitory. We never rushed, breathless and pursued by ghosts, through passageways tucked between walls. We never pored over rare books to the rasp of myrtle branches on glass.
Reagan and I slumped in folding lecture chairs, the only two souls in the back row and out of the projector’s glare. Her presence was constant and intense, even then. That residual energy barely kept me from tearing my fingernails out at the quick, which would have been both more interesting and less painful.
Both Reagan’s parents and mine had insisted we attend the “Crushing It Career Presentation” at Brookview University during our prospective student weekend. There weren’t even light refreshments provided. The speakers were straight out of a horror movie set in a public high school. Most of Brookview’s buildings were modern and well-appointed, but they’d stuck the CEO and founder of Crushing It Career Counseling (and its associated YouTube channel) in a real shithole. False columns lining the walls gave the impression that reality was tenuous, and the carpet smelled burnt and sweetly chemical, a sign you were having a stroke.
I wasn’t. But an aneurysm was a real possibility if I had to sit through another hour of anti-intellectual dudebro rambling packaged as advice. I don’t recall the speaker’s name. He looked like a Trevor. I imagined Trevor repeating the same words again and again to himself over a limp Hungry Man dinner, while brushing his teeth, walking his dog. Never knowing a moment’s peace, just echoes of high-value and future-proof and maximizing income. That helped a little bit.
