2024.05.15 09:28 lucas_m88 My community groups Page was suspended without warning or reason. What can I do?

The community page I admin has been unpublished for over three weeks. I've appealed the decision but have heard nothing back from Facebook. We're trying to organise a lot of events at the moment so this is really bad timing and needs to be resolved.
No warning was given when we were suspended. I only worked out what had happened when I realised I could no longer post.
No reason has been given either. It just says we've breach the community standards, but doesn't say how, and on that same Page Status screen it even says we haven't made any violations.
I can't think of any posts we've made that'd be controversial. If there are I'd be happy to take them down but Facebook haven't told us anything. No notifications, no emails.
I've submitted on every support form I can find but it's been weeks and heard nothing. Is there anyone I can contact to resolve this?

2024.05.15 09:06 AutomaticProof2764 Buying a Galaxy s22 or s23 ultra. What should I look out for?

I live in a country where most of the products sold are fakes, stolen phones in a Samsung box or refurbished ones. My question is what should I check for before buying the phone to know is a genuine ultra? I used to have an iPhone for the past five years (which is a status symbol here and way too expensive) and I forgot about android inspection tips.

The year is 2077. The Six Banners War rages on, a brutal conflict fought entirely by mechanized titans. Among the chaos, a legend is born: the Griffin.

Developed by the rogue engineer, Dr. Anya Petrova, the Griffin was a Frankenstein's monster of salvaged tech. Avid historians will recognize the hulking chassis as repurposed from a forgotten prototype from the Moon Wars, its armor a patchwork of scavenged composites. But Petrova's genius lay in the unorthodox weapon pairing.

A crackling tesla cannon, salvaged from a pre-war power plant, served as the Griffin's primary weapon. Its erratic energy discharge was unpredictable, but devastating at close range. However, Petrova's true stroke of brilliance was mounting a pair of heavy shotguns beneath the tesla cannon. These "peacekeepers," as she affectionately called them, could unleash a hail of lead at mid-range, perfect for softening enemies before unleashing the tesla's raw power.

The Griffin became a symbol of rebellion. Scrapped together by a lone engineer, it defied the sterile, mass-produced war machines of the Corporations. Pilots flocked to Petrova's banner, drawn to the Griffin's raw power and its defiance of the status quo.

The Griffin may not have been the most elegant or sophisticated machine on the battlefield, but it was brutally effective. Its unorthodox design and unpredictable nature made it a nightmare to fight against. Dr. Petrova's legacy lives on with every shuddering blast of the tesla cannon and every thunderous roar of the peacekeepers, a testament to human ingenuity and the will to fight for freedom, even in the face of overwhelming odds.

2024.05.15 07:06 Sam-56 Viva Las Vegas (Elvis Presley’ 68)

Viva Las Vegas (Elvis Presley’ 68)
Viva Las Vegas (Elvis Presley’ 68)
I did Presley 1968 and I am going to flat be honest I absolutely loved it. A vast majority of states were only separated by a 1% precent difference something that I have never done before in my entire time playing this game
(If there is a slide that I am missing I have information for both slides below)
Slide 1: Viva Las Vegas Despite naysayers across the country, angry lobbyists and Nixon himself, you have managed a sweeping victory across the United States of America. Against even your most optimistic polling, you've created an incredible electoral majority and presidential mandate through a combination of charisma, negotiations and sheer luck. Through your tenacious leadership, the Democratic Party has not only survived, but rebounded at unimaginable levels. You have successfully brought youthful and powerful leadership, and now the whole country awaits in bated breath to see what you will do with your mandate. Vietnam may be going on, the economy may be bad, but by God you know exactly what to do. You will transform this country into its true soul, and bring salvation to its people. God bless you Elvis, God bless America, and in God we Trust!
Next
Slide 2: Viva Las Vegas The King of Rock N' Roll and U.S President, Elvis Presley, Dies, Aged 57
The Financial Times, December 12, 1991 Elvis Aaron Presley, 37th President of the United States and "King of Rock N' Roll" has died peacefully in his sleep, aged 57. As millions of fans, impersonators and politically active people visit his state funeral's premises even before his coffin arrived, and as millions more clear their schedules to say goodbye to the King, we at the Financial Times figured it would be a good idea to discuss his achievements, and his time in office. Elvis had gained an incredible landslide victory in the 1968 elections, and won a comfortable re-election in 1972. His day-one executive orders ranged from the creation of a Bureau Of Cultural Affairs, a tax cut for the middle class and abolishing the draft for Vietnam. As his Presidency went on, his musical career had practically become a menagerie of reissues, unreleased demos and other similar releases, almost as if they were released posthumously. In 1971, President Presley passed the "School Grants Act", which redefined the American education system to include more emphasis on creative self-expression through curriculum standardization. Besides these landmark policies, Elvis' term was perceived as a high moment for the United States as the economy survived -- and even thrived -- as the Yom Kippur War and the wider Iran Oil Crisis occured in the Middle East, which crippled US imports. However, by 1976, when Elvis had ended his 2nd term as President, a "Comeback Tour" had been declared across the United States, all broadcast through cutting-edge satellite technology. Playing across a range of genres, the comeback tour revived Presley's musical career and propelled him to the status of legend, as many believed he had become a founding symbol of America itself. As his tours and albums dropped off by 1984, Elvis retired from the public in 1989, but notably had continued contact via the brand-new technology of the World Wide Web, especially through his e-mail. Elvis Presley thus was last seen tending to his Graceland mansion's garden, only two days before his death. Lisa Marie and the rest of Elvis' family have not commented yet, but many expect the address will be delivered on-line.

2024.05.15 05:52 crossflame00 CASTSTATION (Japanese artist) hid a bunch of things in their newest music video, seems to be hinting that there's more to find.

So I've been following CASTSTATION for a while now, they're the person who originally animated the whole rabbit hole trend. But recently they put out their first official animated music video, with a lot hidden.
Here's the video: https://youtu.be/19y8YTbvri8?si=fYD9qHurc4ad7tGY As people in the comments of the video have pointed out, there's sign language, hidden messages in the text, Morse code in blinking, subliminal body language and semi disturbing animation in itself. There's certainly a lot missing, but because of the creator's Twitter, I believe there may be more to find.
Here's one tweet. https://twitter.com/_CASTSTATION/status/1787051327492948277 Certain letters are capitalized, spelling "WATCH THIS", but that's in the message of the tweet anyway so I'm not sure it's important.
Here's another, the one that made me think something deeper may be going on: https://twitter.com/_CASTSTATION/status/1789143397292560480 This appears to be instructions on the intended way to view the video, my untrained mind says maybe doing so will show something different? However, as the replies to the tweet point out, if you okay with the brightness and contrast of the image, you can see the words "reverse key", and certain letters are bolded in the original image, spelling "watch this" again. If you keep playing with the image settings, you can see hundreds of smiley faces in the background of the image, and apparently something inside the center symbol, that symbol being a repeated motif throughout the whole thing.
I'm really not sure what to make of all this, but I feel like this sub might be able to help!

2024.05.15 05:34 jaan_li Modern tarot decks: need help designing symbols representative of our lived experiences

Hi all, I learned about tarot because a colleague once told me about Jodorowsky's Dune. I watched it, learned Spanish, and read his books, where the tarot comes up quite a bit.
However, I need to update it: the cards are not modern, and representative cards will help aid readings given the popularity of astrology in modern society.
Here is a draft so you get a sense of what my partner and I are going for: https://twitter.com/thejaan/status/1790583069323260267 - Open to any feedback and suggestions.
What symbols should we add? What experiences of modern life or technological disintermediation are hardest to capture? What about cultural determinants of our health and relations?
This is another good reference we use: https://www.careculture.is/the-loneliness-apparatus/

2024.05.15 05:34 traumatized_seahorse Pseudo Theory: Potential meaning behind the floating items

Pseudo Theory: Potential meaning behind the floating items
Not much of a theory I just noticed that eyes featured in episode 1 and teapots in episode 2. Then I remembered that both were in the spinning items in the opening theme of the show my best guesses for them are either.
A. Well see a different one each episode and some status quo shift will happen in end of episode 6 or in episode 7. Like the crew leaving the circus not the digital world just the part of the game Caine controls think of it like the back half of Portal.
B. These are just gonna be important items associated with Caine and his powers, eyes for him watching the group at all times, teapots for his ability to create npcs. Well see more as they develop.
C. Well only go back stage as it were 6 times in the show each time an item will be important to it. This is the weakest link since none of these items appear in the exit offices, if I wanted to stretch I could say Caine's tour of the circus grounds was actually the "behind the scenes" moment of the episode since he took pomni to places that were put of bounds like the VOID and in that the eyes appeared. Again this is the weakest idea I had
D. They somehow relate to each of the circus members. Eyes are Pomni, Teapot is whoever is the NPC if you ascribe to that theory, we've only seen 2 but I guess this can act as a piece of symbolic evidence for that theory if ya wanted to.
E. Related to C is that these represent 6 times pomni is traumatized in the show. Eyes for her entering the circus in the first place, Teapot for Gummy Goo fly high king. Honestly this is my favorite theory since these items were seen floating around Pomni when she first entered the circus. And gives us a promise of variety later down the line since it implies we'll get at least 3 of the supposed 9 episodes that won't have a Pomni break down scene which I think is welcome to spice things up and give other characters spotlight
Let me know what you think these could represent or which of my theories is the closet to accurate.

2024.05.15 04:58 numbasafossil14 The Black Dog is a Bearding Symbol

The Black Dog is a Bearding Symbol
This is my first post on the sub and I'm fairly new to Gaylorism (was deep into Gaylor tiktok last year before taking a break and just found this sub within the last month or two!) so full disclosure, I don't in any sense have a comprehensive knowledge of Gaylor lore, nor do I know everything about TayloJoe Alwyn. Nonetheless, I think I found something interesting! (I'm really sorry if this post is too long and I point things out that are obvious; I'm autistic and this is how I communicate when I'm excited and care a lot!!)
Inspired by this post on the LWYMMD music video, I decided to rewatch a few other MVs and found something in Blank Space: three black dogs. Dobermans, actually! They appear during 0:48-0:58 and are being walked on leashes by Taylor and her "love interest." There is even a shot JUST of the dogs. I think it's common knowledge that Blank Space is a song about PR relationships and bearding contracts, so seeing these dogs seemed significant. They of course brought to mind the Doberman in the Fortnight MV and "The Black Dog", and I thought, what if all these black dogs are a bearding symbol?

https://preview.redd.it/694l9olv6i0d1.png?width=1014&format=png&auto=webp&s=4def19eb0556ca29a641a6ee9e1461febd642228
Before diving into the explanation for that, some context on Dobermans provided by Wikipedia. The breed was created by a tax collector who wanted protection from thieves as he traveled and collected taxes. In other words, Dobermans were created to safeguard the collection of money. They are ranked the 5th most intelligent dog in the category of "obedience command training," are "tenaciously loyal," and are "kept as a guard dog and as a companion animal." More on why those traits tie into this theory later.
The appearance of the Dobermans in Blank Space isn't too noteworthy by itself. They can easily be written off as a status symbol, like the mansion and horses and "new money, suit and tie." But in connection with TTPD, they take on a new meaning.
In the Fortnight MV, we see a Doberman trot across screen while Taylor is strapped down, being experimented on (2:42). I always thought that was odd but shrugged it off as a casual nod to "The Black Dog" and didn't look for any deeper meaning for why it would be included in that particular scene -- until now.

https://preview.redd.it/buc47hx37i0d1.png?width=1014&format=png&auto=webp&s=524478d8b4425bab098d6e787016228f391e65d1
During this scene, we see scientists examining Taylor's head and reading lyrics ("I love you, it's ruining my life") in her brainwaves. This scene screams exploitation even before the electroshock therapy begins. They begin shocking her, sparks are flying, scientists are ducking. At 3:06, we see all this but also the Doberman, standing in one of the doorways. While it takes a few steps forward, the dog is otherwise unaffected by this violence in that it isn't barking, rushing to Taylor's aid, or attacking the scientists who are causing this violence. Yet, its position at the doorway to the lab seems to imply it is a guard dog. It's just not Taylor's guard dog. It's not there to protect her. It's there to protect the experimentation and exploitation process, to ensure this process can continue taking place. It's Post Malone's character who ultimately saves her from it. Coming back to tie this up later.

https://preview.redd.it/tk15o8477i0d1.png?width=1014&format=png&auto=webp&s=d3db983b98490dff491420ecca730eaaced3bcfe
Now, "The Black Dog." It may be my favorite song on TTPD and The Anthology. In preparing for this post, I searched the sub to see if my ideas were already shared somewhere, and I found this comment by u/Small-Expert-4020: "To me this is the only song that makes me think of joe- and it sounds way more like a friend breakup then being sad over an ex. The way she says 'i was someone you shared secrets and your location with' sounds so much like a confirmation that shes sad the bearding relationship ended on less than good terms" (Wanted to copy/paste rather than link to help explain my theory)
I totally agree with this interpretation that the song is about Joe and the loss of their relationship, not just the PR relationship but whatever personal relationship they may have had, because I don't think you share a PR relationship with someone for that long and not find a single facet of it that's genuine. I don't know if they were in love, but I do believe they were friends, confidants, and I believe Taylor loved him like a brother. I think the lyric "For a cruel fraternity I pledged / And I still mean it" says this directly. She pledged to a fraternity with him by loving him like a brother, and that was the part of them that was real. That's why it's painful and bewildering to lose, because she still loves him like that despite him being gone.
This isn't the only time she's referenced a familial love toward Joe. In CIWYW, she writes, "I'm laughin' with my lover, makin' forts under covers / Trust him like a brother, yeah, you know I did one thing right." Laughing with her lover -- maybe they're laughing because he isn't really her lover. Making forts under covers -- seems innocent and not sexual to me; making pillow forts with roof blankets is something friends and siblings do. She trusts him like a brother, and that shows her that she's picked one beard right. This one may be more meaningful than the others.
Back to "The Black Dog," I've read the posts about how it could refer to a Black Dog Tavern or a Black Cat Tavern, and it may, but I think the black dog is also Joe himself. Again, the song doesn't feel like losing a lover; it feels like losing a dear friend and confidant. And of course there is the line "'Cause tail between your legs, you're leaving." The subject of the song, Joe, is the dog, leaving with his tail between his legs.
Remember the info about Dobermans that they're both guard dogs and loyal companions. Joe could've been, and likely was, a PR relationship that offered Taylor safety as a closeted queer person, which her team enforced so as to assure her financial success, and a person she truly came to trust, love, and share her plans with.
Blank Space puts an irreverent spin on bearding, like it's a necessary evil she can at least have some fun with. I think with Joe, it became something meaningful, and I think he was part of her plans to come out in 2019. When her plans were ruined, she was heartbroken, but at least she still had him as a friend and confidant and someone who knew what she was feeling. But maybe he got tired of the bearding after so long, maybe he wanted to live more authentically and she wasn't yet ready to. If you read the lyrics, she's saying: It's hitting me that you're really gone. I don't understand why you left. We were dreaming together. We made those best laid plans. You said you'd be brave and play my man and now that I really need you, you're gone and it kills me. Do you hate me for not coming out? Old habits (closeting) die screaming.
I think the loss of Joe has made her feel more bitter than ever about bearding, which could add to why she's being so in-our-faces about the PR relationship with Travis. At least with Blank Space, there seemed to be an aspect of fun about it. But the performance she's giving now just seems painful and sad. Like she's determined to play it up as much as possible because it can't mean anything real to her again. I noted this past weekend (though haven't found a pic of it) one of the visuals during ICDIWABH is a marquee saying The Black Dog (Club?). This reference during that song also supports the idea that losing Joe did break her heart in a way, and now she's bearding with a broken heart by making it so visible and so ridiculous.
In conclusion, Taylor has seemed to learn a lesson that the beard/the black dog won't save her in the end. The black dog just perpetuates the pain of closeting. It's Post Malone's character in the Fortnight MV (whom I agree represents queer, closeted Taylor) that saves her from the exploitation of the scientists/her team. And I really, really hope she's going to save herself by coming out.

2024.05.15 03:55 PlayerREDvPlayerBLUE The New Eden Conflict

Chapter Two - Part One
First Half
__________________
Outposts sprang up on Mercury and the moons of the Kuiper Belt, each a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance. The harsh landscapes of these worlds posed new challenges, but they also offered new resources and opportunities. The ability to leap across the galaxy using faster-than-light travel encapsulated the dark, relentless drive of the human spirit to explore, expand, and survive.
The network of colonies became interconnected, serving as launch pads for further exploration. The new FTL technologies transformed the galaxy into a neighborhood rather than an infinite wilderness. Each jump through space brought humanity closer to its neighbors in the cosmos, for better or worse.
The universe, once a vast, lonely place, was now a landscape of potential new homes and new challenges. As humanity spread out from the Solar System to the stars, the stage was set for new conflicts and new stories, written not in the light of the Sun but in the starlight of distant worlds.
__________________
Humanity's march to the stars was driven by necessity and survival, stark against the backdrop of Earth's dwindling resources and rising conflicts. After World War I, the foundational theories of rocketry emerged, setting the stage for the later technological leaps that would propel humans into space. The brutal rivalry of the Cold War accelerated these advancements, pushing the Soviet Union and the United States to compete in the space race, a silent war fought with satellites and lunar landings.
The practical applications of these early missions were not just about planting flags but also about testing human limits and technologies in the harsh environment of space. The moon landings of 1969 were a global spectacle. Yet, they also underscored the sheer isolation and vulnerability of human life suspended in the cosmic void.
As the decades rolled on, the international focus shifted from competition to cooperation. The space shuttle program symbolized this new era, with nations coming together to build the International Space Station and to send joint missions to Mars. These efforts turned sci-fi dreams into reality—establishing bases on the moon and sending manned missions to Mars laid the groundwork for future colonization.
The drive to inhabit Mars and the moon grew out of a blend of fear and fascination. Habitats expanded into fully functioning colonies, tapping into local resources to create self-sustaining environments. Technologies developed for extracting water and producing air on these barren worlds were critical for long-term survival.
In the shadows of these achievements, the Alcubierre Warp drive emerged as a revolutionary breakthrough, allowing humanity to leapfrog across vast stellar distances in a blink. The UNV Pathfinder and its sister ship, the UNV Exploration, were equipped with this technology to reconnect with colony ships sent out decades earlier in the Great Exodus. These vessels carried not just new drives but also vital updates in agriculture, medicine, and communications to ensure the colonies could thrive.
Each successful mission with the warp drives was a lifeline, not only physically connecting distant colonies to Earth but also weaving a web of interstellar human culture. Resources and knowledge flowed freely, bolstering each colony's chance of success. These ships were built to endure the extremes of space. They were equipped with advanced life-support systems and autonomous navigation, and they were fortresses navigating the unknown.
Meanwhile, Earth and its solar system colonies were pushed further into space. Massive construction projects like O'Neal Cylinders and space elevators dotted the celestial landscape, marking human progress in the cosmos. Each colony, from Mars's rugged plains to the cloud tops of Venus, developed its distinct culture and identity, united by their shared heritage and mutual challenges.
Space travel was fraught with hazards. Asteroids and solar flares were just the beginning; the cosmos was a place of deep unpredictability and danger. Despite these risks, during this era, not just hundreds of thousands but hundreds of millions of people chose to leave Earth. They embarked on journeys aboard new colony ships. These immense vessels were comparable in size to or even surpassed the O'Neal Cylinder habitats in scale. These ships were behemoths, carrying the very essence of Earth and the seeds of future colonies.
The exodus reached systems like Alpha Centauri A and B, Proxima Centauri, Sirius A and B, Barnard's Star, Luyten 726-8 (BL Ceti and UV Ceti), Ross 154 (V1216 Sagittarii), and Wolf 359. These stars became the bedrock of the United Nations of Sol, the precursor to what would be known as the "Human Sphere." It was a time of unprecedented growth and prosperity for humanity, expanding further than ever before in its history.
As humans settled in these new worlds, they faced not only the physical challenges of new environments but also profound isolation and the psychological burden of being light-years away from Earth. Each colony developed its own way of life, adapting to the unique conditions of their new worlds. The challenges of establishing a foothold in these alien places were immense. Local resources were harvested, and technologies were adapted to create habitable atmospheres and viable ecosystems.
Communication between the colonies and Earth was sparse, limited by the vast distances. Each message took years to travel, even at the speed of light, making each colony effectively isolated in its own right. This isolation led to a variety of cultural evolutions and deviations from Earth's norms, which in turn led to a tapestry of diverse human experiences spread across the stars.
The technologies that allowed these pioneers to travel to and settle new worlds were monumental. Fusion drives, quantum computers, and terraforming equipment were standard on these ships. Life aboard the colony ships was a mix of awe at the cosmic vistas and the mundanity of daily life in confined spaces. Generations were born and died in transit, with only stories of Earth as their legacy.
Each new home was a gamble against the cosmos, and not all were successful. Some colonies failed tragically, and their populations were lost to space or were unable to survive in harsh new environments. But for every failure, there was a story of remarkable success and resilience. The human spirit, driven by a need to explore and expand, thrived in adversity. Humanity never gave up and, over the next century, continued to send colonists to each of these star systems and began the process of colonizing each system.
In the stark expanses of space, every new settlement humanity attempted was a stark challenge against the cosmos, and the failures were as common as the successes. Many colonies were lost—whole populations vanished into the void or succumbed to the inhospitable climes of unfamiliar planets. Despite these setbacks, for every outpost that fell, others sprang up in defiance of the odds, showcases of human resilience and determination.
This relentless push into the unknown was not powered by naïve optimism but rather a hardened will to forge a path, wherever possible, to lay claim to the stars themselves. Humanity's spirit, unbroken by repeated failures, continued to drive its expansion across galaxies. Over the decades, this resolve only hardened as each failed colony became a lesson in survival, a step towards mastering life in the cosmos.
The stark realities of space tested human resolve to its limits. Beyond the safety of the Solar System, the universe emerged not just as a vast place of exploration but as a harsh environment of extreme conditions and existential threats. The initial failures taught valuable lessons in logistics, life support, and sustainable living on alien soil, which were crucial for future endeavors.
Colonization efforts became more sophisticated over time. Humans developed technologies that could convert inhospitable terrains into somewhat livable habitats. Advanced terraforming equipment and life-support systems became standard in new colonies. These tools represented more than mere survival mechanisms; they were symbols of humanity's unyielding quest to inhabit the stars.
As colonies spread further into the galaxy, each new venture was underpinned by an increasingly detailed understanding of interstellar travel and survival. The experiences gathered from every failed settlement informed the next, creating a cumulative body of knowledge that bolstered human persistence. The drive to expand took on a rhythm of its own, a cycle of trial, error, and success that slowly but surely extended the reach of human civilization.
This cycle was reflected in the evolution of colonial policies and technologies. From the early days of rudimentary habitats to the development of massive, self-sustaining complexes that could house thousands, the growth was palpable. Each successful colony served as a proof of concept for the next. With each launch, humanity's footprint in the galaxy grew larger.
The colonies themselves varied wildly—a testament to human ingenuity and the diverse environments encountered. Some were burrowed into asteroids, others sprawled across red Martian sands or nestled in the volatile cloud tops of Venus. Each presented unique challenges and required bespoke solutions to make them habitable.
Interstellar ships, equipped with the latest in warp drive technology, ferried resources between these colonies. They were lifelines essential for maintaining the flow of essential supplies and personnel. These vessels were also carriers of culture and connection, linking distant humans across the void of space.
Despite the vast distances and slow communications, a network of human presence began to stitch together disparate points of light into a coherent tapestry of colonies. This network was more than a mere chain of outposts; it was the backbone of a burgeoning interstellar society—a network that held potential not only for survival but for a new era of human prosperity.
However, this expansion was not without its darker aspects. The harsh conditions of space required strict governance and often harsh penalties for breaches of colony protocol. Life in these new worlds was rigidly structured, a necessity to maintain order in environments where even a small mistake could be fatal.
Each new settlement was a dice roll against the vast uncertainties of space, and many did not survive. Failures were frequent; entire colonies vanished into the void or succumbed to the inhospitable conditions of their newfound planets. The loss of life was substantial, casting a shadow over the ambitious interstellar expansion efforts. However, each disaster also hardened the resolve of those who remained. The cumulative knowledge gained from these failures informed future endeavors, refining the protocols and technologies needed to endure and thrive in alien environments.
Despite the high stakes and frequent setbacks, human resolve remained unshaken. The determination to push forward, to establish a foothold in the cosmos, was fueled by necessity and the innate human drive to explore. As each failed colony became a lesson learned, the strategies for survival evolved. More robust life support systems were developed, and habitats were designed to be more adaptable to the unpredictable conditions of new worlds.
The stark reality of these endeavors was that many who left Earth would never return. They journeyed knowing the risks—trading the safety of their home planet for the promise of a new start on distant, uncharted worlds. This was the cost of progress, paid willingly by those driven by a vision of humanity's future among the stars.
With each new wave of colonists, technology and experience accumulated, reducing the risks and increasing the chances of success. Ships became more advanced, equipped with better navigation systems and life-support capabilities. Colonization techniques also improved, with genetic engineering playing a crucial role in adapting human physiology to extraterrestrial environments.
The harshness of space demanded a relentless pursuit of efficiency and sustainability. Resources were scarce, and logistical challenges were immense. The vast distances between colonies meant that each had to be largely self-sufficient. Communication lags, sometimes spanning years, forced these communities to develop a high degree of autonomy.
Over the centuries, this relentless expansion forged a new breed of human. These spacefarers were tough, adaptable, and fiercely independent. Their lives, spent on the frontier of human existence, were a testament to the species' tenacity. They cultivated their new worlds, turning barren landscapes into bustling colonies. These settlements eventually grew into hubs of culture and technology, distinct yet still connected to their ancestral home by shared history and common humanity.
Yet, the expansion was not without its darker aspects. The isolation of distant colonies often led to psychological strain and societal breakdown. In some cases, governance structures collapsed under the weight of external pressures and internal conflicts. Pirates and marauders, drawn by the wealth of fledgling colonies, became a significant threat, leading to the establishment of militarized zones and the deployment of defense forces.
As humans adapted to life in space, they also had to contend with the presence of other sentient species. Initial interactions were cautious and fraught with tension and misunderstandings. Some encounters led to conflict, others to alliances. These relationships were complex, shaped by a mix of diplomacy, trade, and, occasionally, warfare.
Humanity's venture into interstellar space fundamentally transformed its cultural and identity landscapes. As humans spread across the stars, encountering diverse environments and nurturing colonies on planets ranging from Mars to far-flung systems, the challenges of survival and the ethical dimensions of expansion pressed hard on their collective psyche.
Values long held sacred on Earth were reevaluated in the face of new realities. The discovery of life—fauna and flora—on other planets during these colonization efforts marked a pivotal shift. While no sentient alien species were encountered, the existence of alien ecosystems was profound. It highlighted not only humanity's isolation in the cosmos but also its responsibilities.
On Alpha Centauri, the first successful integration of Earth's lifeforms with alien biomes set a precedent. Genetic manipulation technologies were refined, allowing Earth's organisms to coexist with and enhance these extraterrestrial habitats. Conservation efforts were paramount; preserving the integrity and diversity of alien ecosystems became a moral imperative as much as a scientific endeavor.
Each colony, from the red dust of Mars to the lush jungles of distant exoplanets, became a testbed for these principles. They were microcosms where human ingenuity, ethical considerations, and ecological stewardship intersected. Through these experiences, humanity did not just spread through space; it grew, evolved, and redefined what it meant to be human in the vast expanse of the universe.
Through all these trials, the human spirit's resilience shone brightly. Never deterred by the enormity of their challenges, humans continued to push the boundaries of their known universe. Each colony, each ship, and each life represented a thread in the vast tapestry of human endeavor in space—a relentless march toward an uncertain but ceaselessly pursued future.

Vessel: ICV The Argonaut
Location: New Eden Star Cluster
Noah, his gaze locked on the viewport, watched the ancient ship float aimlessly among the asteroids. The ICV The Argonaut, under his skilled control, edged closer, enabling the deployment of EVA suits for inspection. Behind him, his mother, Gwendolyn Stark, and his sisters, Jane and Joan, prepared for the walk, their movements a blend of anticipation and professionalism. The ship, a silent relic of a bygone era, revealed no signs of life, a fact confirmed by both Shinra Hinaba and Serenity, the Argonaut's AI.
This discovery, hidden among the celestial debris, was a treasure. It wasn't just a ship; it was a gateway to unparalleled recognition for the Shinra-Stark-Daiwa Mining Group. While the Argonaut and its crew focused on this historical artifact, the rest of the fleet mined the surrounding asteroids, harvesting resources critical for the survival of distant colonies.
Hinaba's voice, laced with a mix of excitement and concern, snapped Noah back to the present. "Focus, Noah!" she said, her fist-bumping Noah's shoulder in a friendly gesture. "We've got a lot riding on bringing this ship in intact."
"I know, I know! Just relax, Hinaba! I've got this," Noah assured her, his attention riveted to the controls. His reputation as the fleet's top pilot wasn't unfounded, a fact even the skeptical private military contractors had come to acknowledge. Almost as if summoned by their conversation, the Director's face appeared on the communications screen next to Hinaba, an uncanny timing that suggested he was closely monitoring their progress.
It was then that Director Shinra Senzo's image flickered onto the communications screen, his timing almost too perfect. "What's your status, Noah?" he asked, a brief glance toward his daughter betraying his deeper concerns. Despite his reservations about Noah's closeness with Hinaba, he was willing to see where their partnership might lead, a stance influenced by discussions with Noah's father.
"We're in!" Gwendolyn's voice crackled through the comms, marking their successful approach. But their moment of triumph was shattered by a distress signal, a desperate call cutting through the static. Elaine and Beth Frost, Noah's cousins, scrambled to decipher it, their faces etched with growing alarm.
After a tense moment, Beth's face drained of color, but it was Eliane who eventually shared the grim news, which was dire: "An unknown force has attacked New Eden. Their defenses are falling…" The weight of their words hung heavy in the bridge. An unseen adversary had breached the colony's defenses, leaving them vulnerable. The realization that any hope of immediate assistance from the USSA or SFR was weeks or even a full stellar month away if at all, underscored the gravity of their situation. With the defense fleet in ruins, their only hope lay with the ICV Ishimura, and the hired PMC mercenary group onboard, initially engaged to fend off pirates, might now be their only hope against this new and formidable threat.
Silence enveloped the bridge as the magnitude of the crisis dawned on them. They were alone, far from help, facing a threat of unknown proportions. Noah felt a tightness in his jaw, anger and resolve mixing in equal measure. The prospect of what lay ahead was daunting, yet there was no room for doubt. They had to act swiftly.
Gwendolyn's voice broke the silence, her command clear. "We need to act, and quickly. Our priority is the safety of this crew and ensuring we can lend aid to New Eden. Noah, plot a course back. We have to prepare for what's to come."
Hinaba, her usual levity gone, nodded. "We have the Ishimura, and we're not defenseless. Let's make sure we're ready for whatever's out there."
As Noah adjusted the ship's course, a sense of determined urgency took hold. They were heading back, not just to confront a threat, but to defend their home, their people.
Director Senzo's voice crackled through the communication channel, his tone tinged with impatience yet seeking reassurance. "It would be great to know what the status of your progress is, Noah," he pressed, his words carrying a sense of urgency.
Noah could sense the weight of expectation in Director Senzo's inquiry. Despite the pressure, Noah remained composed, and his years of experience in the field allowed him to maintain a calm demeanor even in the face of such scrutiny. With a steady voice, he replied, "We're making steady progress, Director. I'll provide you with a detailed update shortly."
He paused as he focused on the holo-Feed in front of him and analyzed the available data in real-time thanks to his military-grade holo-NeuralSyne Implant. "We're adjusting course," Noah replied, his tone firm yet marked by an undercurrent of urgency. "Heading back to New Eden. We'll be ready."
In the silence that followed, a collective resolve fortified them. They were facing the unknown, as the derelict ship could bring untold bounty from within its hull.
Director Senzo's command carved through the static a clear mandate that reset their priorities. "Noah, before you depart the asteroid belt, I am dispatching a Porter Tug to commandeer the derelict ship. It's our top priority... Get that ship secure before you Skip Jump back to the ICV Argos-1. That is a Prime Directive!" His voice, a blend of authority and urgency, left no room for debate.
Noah, hands steady on the controls, glanced briefly at the communications panel. The weight of the directive pressed into him, a stark reminder of the stakes involved. He turned, catching the gaze of his crew, a silent signal that it was time to adapt their plan. The crew exchanged quick, significant glances, each understanding the gravity of the order. The derelict ship, an ancient relic floating among the asteroids, was not just another find—it was a piece of history, potentially holding untold knowledge and value. The directive from Director Shinra Senzo underscored its importance, not just to their mission but to the broader ambitions of the Shinra-Stark-Daiwa Mining Group.
Noah's mind went back over the meaning of what such an order entailed. Refusing to follow the directive would most certainly spell the end of his career. On one hand, he wanted to help those in need and who were under siege by an unknown force. The New Eden Star Cluster was not just a single system but a series of star systems in close proximity to one another. Noah and the rest of the ICV Argos-1 collective fleet were mining ore around Eden-159; currently, the planets were still being colonized, but in ten years, that would change. Our job was to mine ore to return to Eden-109, one of the 1,119 star systems in the New Eden Cluster.
The directive was clear: any new discovery in the outer rims of human space takes top priority above all other mandates, and the crew of The Argonaut was ready. Despite the risks, the potential rewards were too significant to ignore. As preparations for the operation began in earnest, the sense of unity and purpose among the crew was palpable. Each member knew their role and was prepared to execute it with precision. Noah Stark, standing firm at the helm, nodded sharply. "Understood, Director. We'll secure the derelict and rendezvous with the Argos-1 as planned." His voice was calm, a stark contrast to the racing thoughts behind his composed exterior. The task was daunting, yet his confidence in his crew's abilities was unshakeable.
Shinra Hinaba, her eyes reflecting a mix of determination and concern, shifted in her search. Her fingers were already dancing across the console, setting up communication channels. Her role as the ship's specialist meant she was well-versed in the technicalities of such operations, and her confidence was discernible. "We'll need to coordinate with the tug. I can set up a direct comms link and guide their approach." Her voice, usually light and teasing in their private moments, now carried the professional edge of her role.
Gwendolyn Stark, the matriarch and seasoned explorer, nodded in agreement. "Time is of the essence. Let's secure that ship and make sure it's safe for the tug. We can't afford any delays." Her experience shone through, her demeanor calm yet commanding, rallying her children and the crew with a few choice words. "Everything is by the book. This ship could be a significant find for us," she stated, her voice firm.
Elaine, renowned for her cool demeanor under pressure, exchanged a glance of shared determination with Beth. With a nod, they moved to their stations, their movements precise and efficient, a testament to years of seamless coordination in the face of adversity.
Beth, known for her unwavering focus and quick thinking, shared a silent understanding with Elaine. Together, they pivoted to their respective stations, their synchronization seamless and instinctual. In the heart of chaos, their unity forged a stronghold of resolve, a beacon of stability amid the storm.
"We're on it, Mom," Elaine stated, her hands flying over her console, prepping the EVA suits for another walk.
Beth said decisively, "We'll be ready to assist the Tug team with anything they need." Beth nodded in agreement, both sisters moving to gather the necessary gear. Their well-honed skills in extravehicular activities made them indispensable for the task at hand.
Elaine intonated as she focused on the external sensors: "I'll keep an eye out for any debris or potential hazards for the tug. We don't want any surprises."
Grace Frost, the voice of strategy and foresight, considered the logistics. "Once the ship is secure, we'll need to plot a careful course back. The extra mass will affect our jump calculations."
Jennifer Stark, my youngest sister, a blend of youth and sharp intellect, nodded. Jennifer's hands moved to assist Shinra with the communications setup. Meanwhile, Jamie reviewed the ship's specs, ensuring they had all the data needed for a smooth operation. "Let's ensure we have all the data we need for a smooth operation," she said, her tone serious, betraying the gravity of their task.
Jamie Stark, also my youngest sister, focused on the ship's specs. Her hands moved deftly over the controls as she reviewed the data. "Absolutely," she chimed in, her voice steady as she continued her meticulous review. "We can't afford any oversights if we want this mission to succeed." Her words echoed Jennifer's sentiment, highlighting the importance of thorough preparation.
Jamie added, "I'll run a diagnostic on the derelict's structural integrity. We need to know it can withstand the jump."
Director Senzo's image flickered on the screen once more, a stern reminder of the urgency. "Even if you return now, the fleet can't make the FTL jump until all ships have returned to their hangars and docking bays. You have time to tug the derelict ship back to the ICV Argos-1."
Noah, absorbing every detail, finally responded. "Understood, Director. We'll secure the ship and ensure it's ready for the tug. Argonaut out." His voice, firm and confident, belied the racing thoughts of potential complications and the precision required for their new task.
The directive was clear, and the crew of the Argonaut was ready. Despite the risks, the potential rewards were too significant to ignore. As preparations for the operation began in earnest, the sense of unity and purpose among the crew was palpable. The bridge buzzed with activity, each member of the crew moving with purposeful speed. The Argonaut, once a silent observer among the stars, was now a hive of focused energy, ready to execute a directive that could very well shift the balance of their task. Each member knew their role and was prepared to execute it with precision. The arduous task of securing the derelict ship was directive from above; it was a challenge they were all eager to meet head-on.
"Let's get to work," Noah said, his gaze sweeping over his crew and his family. "We have a ship to secure." His statement, simple yet laden with unspoken responsibility, set them into motion, each person aware of the part they played in the intricate dance of space exploration and survival. Aboard the Argonaut, there was no room for doubt. Only action, determination, and the collective will to succeed in the face of the unknown. Then, they would make the FTL jump to Eden-109 to aid the colonists under siege.

2024.05.15 02:57 Claimsprocessor Finding short term housing 😥

Hi all,
Please excuse me for lack of knowledge and experience - that’s why I’m on Reddit asking for help.
My partner is trying to find a short term rental in Oslo for the summer, but has been shut out of student housing because of her status as an international student (USA). She is a grad student doing summer research in Oslo and taking language classes.
We are currently in a mad dash trying to find a place, and are on Finn.no, Facebook, and Hybel trying to find something for two months-ish. (June 15 - Aug 17).
Looking for any and all leads for a small apartment or room - she is on a budget with student funding, and is interested in any and all leads.
If there are other websites you would suggest, please also let us know.

2024.05.15 02:54 FeistyDevelopment3 A Cautionary Tale

5 years ago on November 14th, 2019, while I was living on The West Coast in Vancouver, I met a gorgeous, tall (like me), bubbly, cute, sophisticated, intelligent, strong, kind woman whom we'll call Elizabeth. She was married at the time and she made it clear from the start she was looking just for friendship but I liked her and appreciated her company especially since she really liked exploring new things with me and learning about me and vice versa. So we became close friends fast despite the 17-year age gap between a 22-year-old man and 39-ywar-old woman. Ontop of it, I was a green virgin at the time and felt rather lonely and lost as a young man from a small ranching town in Ontario transplanting to The bustling West Coast (even despite my extensive North American travel time up to that point, more than even her).
We spent years talking and hanging out, even after I moved back to Ontario through the pandemic and she ultimately divorced as her marriage was on the rocks long before I ever showed up. And eventually, we got together. And losing it to her at 25 and the few blissful months I got to spent together with her when we'd visit each other were the best moments of my life. I'd waited for someone like her. Almost, she was better in every way.
I guess knowing that I was never more than a boytoy or rebound at best, and the one idiot young kid chosen by her to break at worst, hits pretty hard. Knowing she'd never love me the way I loved her. Hell, I wasn't even allowed to post photos of us together on Facebook or change my relationship status like I'd always dreamed of since I was a kid (I have simple goals) because she didn't want to be seen as a "slut" after her divorce so fresh. I really was just something fun for a short time. And she was everything to me. Idk, that just breaks me in a way I really can't accurately put into words. Like even if she did come back like I still hope, I'd probably never be able to get past it because I can't even find the words to explain the feeling and level of inconsolable hurt it fills me with. Its an awful fucking feeling to know the person you care the world for will absolutely never come anywhere even close to returning the sentiment and because she's been leaving men behind since the fucking dawn of time (since I was being born, actually, since she lost her virginity at 17) its just become reflexive to her, like despite how sincere I think everything she said and did was, especially at the end when she was crying, she'll never fucking care enough to actually turn around. She'll never miss me enough. And I really did feel like she was the first and only real person who really wanted and enjoyed having me around and loved me.
I guess I'm saying all this because she played on everything I had fantasized about: She'd remark how us together could make a sex video of the "young, hot, stud nailing the hot, curvy, muscled milf" and call herself my teacher and me her student (which really wasn't far off). She really seemed like she enjoyed it too, like our relationship wasn't just all fantasy and kink-based. We were friends, I loved her, I listened to her, I respected her and trusted her, I believed in her and followed her lead. She really tangled me in deep and I fell for her fucking hard. I mean, she was my first and she was a gorgeous, kind, warm, awesome woman in her early-40s who enthralled me, of course I did.
But she has fucked me up permanently. She's ruined me. I can't really get close to any woman anymore. Its difficult and physically hurts and bothers me and I can't do it anymore. I can have sex, but I'm not fixing this one anytime soon and I can thank her for it. At night I dream of her a lot. Half the time its even just to fucking yell at her and curse her out and listen to her cry. And then the half of me that still loves her tremendously like it probably always will ends up returning back again.
If you truly love your cub. Stay away from him...or prepare to break him.
There's a reason Colts are called Colts. You've gotta break them first.

2024.05.15 02:17 AlfaMejicano Joyboy was the Oden of his time (1114+)

I commented this on a separate post but thought I’d develop it more and hear your guys thoughts, this is basically my general theory of what Joyboy being the original pirate to the Ancient Kingdom was like
Essentially, I think the world of one piece back then (pre-floods), consisted of one large or a couple large continents comprised of the Ancient Kingdom, tribes of the various races we’ve seen so far, and the 20 other kingdoms that eventually founded the WG, each being much more secluded with closed borders as the lack of oceanic borders and shared landmass made every country much more territorial and constantly at war (similar to our own world). I think the Ancient Kingdom must’ve had a strict status quo, with Joyboy paralleling Oden being the natural born adventurer who wanted to explore. Refusing to follow the rules of his Kingdom, he became the first pirate and first person to actually set out to sea and encounter all different sorts of people and races.
Through his explorations around the world and infectious ability to bring smiles and make friends/allies wherever he went, he was able to bring all races together to the Ancient Kingdom and usher in a sort of prosperous utopia where everybody working together contributed to it becoming the most advanced civilization. Think about it, a country where the fishman, giants, sky people, buccaneers, minks, and etc all use their unique abilities and knowledge in unison to make the best kingdom, what a beautiful concept that’s reflected also in Luffy’s crew and extended allies. Who wouldn’t want to leave their shitty oppressive country and be a part of this? This scared and threatened the other kingdoms, which led them to team up against the Ancient Kingdom and segregate the world again to maintain their social hierarchy (void century, creation of the red line, celestial dragons, etc).
This would line up with several other existing theories, where all the races seem to worship some sort of Sun God and have a variation of a sun-esque tattoo, symbolizing their allegiance to the Ancient Kingdom. It also follows the Pangea theories but I won’t go to deep into all those.
A key element to this theory comes with the character Toki. Being someone who personally knew Joyboy and of his eventual return, she fell in love and decided to have her child with Oden because she thought he was the spitting image of Joyboy’s adventurous and infectious spirit, and believed that their child would inherit that same will and be the Joyboy of the current era. She likely saw the same thing with Roger and that’s why she put her full faith and trust into them being the men who would help her set the pieces in motion for the next generation to bring the Dawn (maybe she was Joyboy’s lover back in the day, who knows). Obviously neither Ace or Momonosuke became Joyboy, but it would’ve made sense for her to make that wager. It’s a common theme in One Piece for inherited will to not come from actual genetics, but nonetheless Roger and Oden still were critical in influencing the next era and Luffy (Joyboy’s actual return).
What do you guys think? I’d love to hear your guys thoughts

Does this look AI generated to you?
https://preview.redd.it/2wh7g9bw9h0d1.png?width=606&format=png&auto=webp&s=b237f07cb4cf5e2e9bff2fbf362ccc1e9175f955
I posted this image on this sub earlier saying that it was obviously AI Generated, and was downvoted to oblivion because it's just "age old digital painting techniques" and that this "doesn't look like AI."
I posted this because the original artist was claiming that they didn't use AI and used that reasoning to scam people out of commissions and Kofi donations. They used this stance to gain a ton of followers (a couple thousand) in a single day, whom were coming to their defense as they claimed that everything was hand drawn and explicitly that AI was not used at all. This is important to highlight, because they used the benefit of the doubt and the growing discourse to gain from it all. The lying about it was the whole point.
I use AI, I love using it, but I'm open about it. I understand that people don't want to be sold anything that uses AI generation and I support their decision to do so - I think being transparent about its use is good for everyone. This person was hypocritically using AI to do the bulk of their work but publicly denouncing it, going so far as acting like the accusations were utterly unthinkable. So that artist gained thousands of followers illegitimately who took their side, most-to-all of them followers that hate AI and couldn't believe that so many people were dogpiling on this artist and that it was "clearly painted by them".
So this person gained a large following by using AI, lying about it, and then used that growing following to take commissions from people and gained Kofi donations, all under the pretense that they were not using AI generation whilst doing so.
So a bunch of users found their SeaArt account along with the base AI generated images that were then (crudely) painted over, they crumbled and admitted to using AI. They have since deleted their account completely. The artist' name was si12o2 on Twitter before deletion. You can search the name and follow the previous discourse there.
I'm posting about this for a couple reasons:
The first is that sometimes it feels fucking GOOD to be right all along. Vindication is a good feeling, and I'm not going to apologise for that, but there's a more important reason that I'll go into at the end.
Here's the thing: this work is so obviously AI Generated and yet a whole bunch of people on this subreddit couldn't tell:
We are also getting a lot of people seeing digital art tricks and crying AI when it isn't.
This is what makes me laugh. You've got people here even saying this, that, and the other, are all "clearly AI" when it's just age old digital art techniques. Not that AI doesn't happen of course. But people become a "experts" on the AI side but clearly have no experience with digital art.
There's nothing obviously AI generated about this to me. It's not good art imo but that doesn't mean it's AI, there's tons of bad art out there.
Here's the most important thing - whether we love or hate AI (and I am firmly in the "love it" camp), it isn't good enough that people in this sub can't identify whatever THIS IS as being AI generated, let alone some regular ludd on Facebook who believes whatever junk they see without question:
https://preview.redd.it/b5jicybmbh0d1.png?width=178&format=png&auto=webp&s=af33665fe84c147f29f961606565f887d00c552b
AI Generated content is just going to get harder and harder to parse as we go, and if we can't figure out that even this super easy to spot stuff is AI, how are we going to have any hope of questioning more sinister content when Text2Vid takes off for consumers, is being used by foreign political powers to spread misinformation and undermine trust in image and video content?
We need to do better - If you can't spot that the very obvious AI mottling pattern on an anime girl's tights is made with AI generative tech, you could be lead to believe anything. Thousands of people today were fooled into thinking that an AI artist was purely traditional and being witchhunted just because they insisted that they didn't use AI, and then coming here to highlight this I was also downvoted for pointing out how crazy it is that people were fooled, and got the SAME benefit of the doubt.
I'll say it one more time - I LOVE AI IMAGE GEN, but for goodness sake we need to do better at questioning things, especially when we are enthusiasts of the tech, use it regularly and should be able to spot it when it's used and can use that to let others know that they're being mislead.
Please, for the love of God, do better. If your parents are liking fake, dirisive and polarising AI generated content on social media, tell them. If your friends are falling for obviously faked content, tell them. If you aren't sure if something is AI generated or not, look closely at it. If you really can't tell, ask for second opinions, because you could be like one of these people looking at something falsified by admission and shrugging your shoulders and saying "nah, looks real to me."
Please.

2024.05.15 01:58 97637vympel Am I a victim of Human trafficking?

Came to this country as an F1 student around 6 years ago.Was scrolling through facebook posts and came across one of the big eb3 unskilled recruiting firms. They said they would help me find a sponsor who will file a green card for me.In return I would have to pay the recruiting firm 20k, never paid the sponsoring employer a penny. After my i765 was approved the recruiting firm forced me to drop my F1 status under the threat of i140 revocation and go work for the sponsoring employer.Turns out when I signed up with the recruiting firm I signed a paper work saying I would work for a year for the recruiting company( not my sponsoring employer). The 1 year contractual obligation is over, employer is supportive of me returning to work after i485 approval. But the recruiting firm sent out an email to my sponsoring employer saying, I cannot do as it would jeopardize my green card(turns out they were getting paid by my sponsor for making me work). On top of that the job description mentioned on LC is something that doesn’t even match, I didn’t complain as I wanted to make best out of the situation I was in. Left the job as employer agreed upon me returning to work after i485 approval, now the recruiting firm revoked my i140. Feels like I have been used by them. Is there any action I can take like report it to the feds?Or go a T Visa route ?I know I can file a supplement J and call it a day but I am trying to do what’s right.Make feds investigate this practice of servitude under the threat of i140 revocation.

2024.05.15 01:00 communist-crapshoot How to argue in favor of capitalism and against socialism, a helpful guide: Part 2.

Hello. My name is Bungling-Worm. You may remember me from my highly condemned submissions such as "Socialists-The Moralist Busybodies Preventing You From Beating YOUR Cheating C\nt of a Wife and Annoying Children", "Profit or: Humanity's Raisin Deter (sic).", "Who Really 'Needs' Clean Air and Water Anyway?", "Hayek Was Right! - How Fascism Saved Western Civilization™ From the Bolshevik Menace" and "SWEATSHOPS!-The Greatest Gift to Third-World Youths Since the Polio Vaccine.*"
Today I'd like to address my fellow capitalists. It's no secret that, much like the U.S. military in Iraq circa 2003-2011, we're losing the battle for the hearts and minds of our intended slav..subje...vict...vassa...thral...our fellow men™. For this reason my employer, Generic Right-Wing Think Tank Inc., in partnership with our good friends in the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and the U.K. Special Intelligence Service (formerly U.K. Military Intelligence, Section 6), have contacted the eminent propagandist conservative philosopher picnic-boy and gained his gracious permission to make an official Part 2 to his highly acclaimed How to argue in favor of capitalism and against socialism, a helpful guide the table of contents of which is freely available (for a limited time only) here: https://www.reddit.com/CapitalismVSocialism/comments/1cqvdsv/comment/l3wuegi/
Without picnic-boy's pioneering achievements in sophistry this work would not be possible. Now, without further add-do (sic) I give you a sneak peak into the table of contents of How to argue in favor of capitalism and against socialism, a helpful guide: Part 2.
  1. State, often and always without evidence (because none exists), that socialists control all mainstream news media, organized religion (especially the Catholic Church, the Jesuit Order, the Hasidic Colleges and every sect of Islam), academia, K-12 public education, the entire U.S. civil service/bureaucracy (from the municipal all the way up to the federal), the FBI, the CIA, the Justice Department, the Democratic Party, the neoconservative wing of the Republican party, the Fraternal Order of Freemasons, Hollywood, all police unions, the AFL-CIO board, the entire federal judiciary, all the major drug cartels and organized crime syndicates, the Federal Reserve System and the governments of literally every single third and second world country, especially the far-right and non-white majority ones. At the exact same time, and this is really important so pay close attention, accuse socialists of being unpopular teenage losers living in their parents' basement who're too lazy to get a job.
  2. When socialists remark upon how similar the claims in point 1 are to contemporary Neo-Nazi conspiracy theories and start to question how you feel about Jewish people turn around and accuse them of being "the real anti-semites" for "wanting to take all the Jews' money away ". In no way is this conflation of all Jewish people with rich capitalists a form of economic antisemitism. If someone points out that it is simply cherry pick quotes from Marx's "On the Jewish Question" out of context so that none of the parts where Marx makes it clear he is only critiquing Judaism as a religion while at the same time advocating for the political emancipation of the Jews as people are clear to the reader. After that go on to talk about how much you support Israel and how much happier you think diaspora Jews would be if they permanently immigrated there. Also and for no particular reason talk about the "failure" of the Kibbutzim apropos of nothing and don't elaborate on anything.
  3. Always portray struggles of democratic socialists within ML states/the Eastern Bloc as struggles for capitalism. Yes, it is true the people who organized the East German Uprising of 1953, the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, the Prague Spring of 1968, and the Polish Solidarity Movement of the 1980's (before the Vatican and CIA hijacked it) all demanded democratic socialism, yes they all said that, but what they "really wanted" was capitalism and don't you let any so-called "historian" tell you otherwise.
  4. Pretend that socialists invented the very concept of the state and thus that all state rulers from the Roman Emperors, Egyptian Pharaohs, Greek Archons, etc. to modern Kings, Kaisers, Tsars and Presidents were/are "socialists".
  5. Don't forget to liberally pepper your psychotic rants with plenty of freudian slips and accusations in a mirror. For example, make the claim that socialists want to destroy the family so that they can isolate, abuse and indoctrinate women and children while at the same time assert that wives and children are nothing more than an extension of "the individual" who need to be shielded by this individual from an unrealistically hostile and confusing world (literally everything and everyone outside the home).
  6. Assert that socialists invented taxation and ignore that the first taxes in recorded history took the form of land-rents set by the first governments (which were councils of militaristic landlords).
  7. Defend rent-seeking and landlordism so long as it's done by private individuals. Remember rent-seeking is only bad when the government does it because they spend that money on social parasites and welfare leeches, unlike landlords who spend it on their second families in the next state over.
  8. Claim fascism is a form of socialism but also defend the legacies of lesser known fascist regimes, military dictatorships and other totalitarian right-wing governments whose symbols and mottos the people in your country haven't developed a learned fear response to yet the way they have the Swastika and the Fasces.
  9. When leftists point out that the main victims of things like the Great Purge and the Chinese Cultural Revolution were socialists, communists, anarchists and other left-wing intellectuals who opposed Stalin and Mao's cults of personality either ignore them and maintain that the "real victims" were the tiny minority of "innocent" religious extremists, ultranationalists (who were "definitely not" fascist collaborators or spies), and grain hoarders or do a complete one hundred and eighty degree pivot and actually defend the Great Purge and Cultural Revolution because "The more left someone is, the more violent/dictatorial they are, therefore anyone to the left of Stalin and Mao would have been more violent than them and it's a good thing they were killed."
  10. If you think any of these points are self-contradicting just remember that doublethink is merely a tool and "communists" (Stalinists) shouldn't be the only ones allowed to make use of it.
  11. Ignore the mountains of evidence that an anti-Stalinist left exists. Portray these leftists as right-wingers and edit their most famous works to leave out the many mentions of their own support for socialism.
  12. Remind your interlocutor(s) that socialism is gay and cringe.
  13. Remember that reading is gay but total illiteracy is still kinda cringe (unfortunately). Therefore read as little as humanly possible without going full illiterate. Our recommendation is to only read blurbs from ancap websites, your favorite conspiracy theorist podcasters' social media threads and your fellow "capitalists' " reddit posts and nothing else.
  14. In keeping with point 13 let the only things you "know" or "learn" about socialism be things you absorbed through osmosis and half remember from your high school history textbooks assuming you even read them at all. Never look at primary sources, never listen to people trying to explain things to you in detail, always complain that quotes provided to you are "blocks of text" or "unoriginal" and can thus be dismissed without serious engagement on your part.
  15. Remember that conformism, unquestioning obedience to authority, an unflinching belief in the correctness of the current socioeconomic status quo and conventional wisdom, and a general Panglossian worldview with a huge heaping of moral nihilism (which is definitely a real philosophical school of thought and not just a rationalization of one's own sociopathic tendencies) are actually somehow radical and that "conservatism is the new punk rock" of the 21st century.
  16. Remember that guy begging for spare change you passed on your way to work? Tell everyone that he was a capitalist. Carefully explain to workers why capitalists are actually worse off than everyone else in society as hard to believe as that may seem. Remind them that when it comes to capitalists' they're "cash poor, asset rich" which means all their wealth is tied up in assets like yachts and sports cars and mansions and designer suits/dresses/jewellery and second summer homes and third winter homes and tropical island resorts where "nothing unethical ever happens so shut up about it already"...and talk about how they can't use these assets to buy groceries or clothing or even pay the "exorbitant" property taxes on their assets. "So you see the real unfortunates in our society aren't the homeless or the victims of police brutality or refugees or the working poor, it's capitalists. These brave men and women take (minor) financial risks by using what little cash they have to found businesses, not for their own benefit but for ours, so that they can give us jobs and provide us with products and services and then what do these generous souls get in return for their herculean efforts? Just a whole lot of ingratitude from socialists and a bunch of tacky junk they can't even use to feed and clothe their many, many illegitimate and adoptive children that they're definitely not doing anything questionable with on their tropical islands that aren't even worth that much anymore because of rising sea levels (which have nothing to do with climate change, which is just a Chinese communist plot to make Americans poor don'tcha know?)".
