2024.06.09 03:01 Chai_Marshmallow 29 [M4F] NYC - Nerdy Guy looking for Someone to Enjoy the Warm City Vibes

I'm a 29 year old guy living in NYC and looking for someone to vibe with and develop a relationship with them. I'm a pretty easy going and relaxed person. Currently working in the tech industry and been loving it so far! I have a mix of introvert and extrovert energy where I love to go out for concerts and events but love to relax at home with a good cup of tea on the couch. I am pretty nerdy but do enjoy doing all sorts of things in my free time. Physically, I'm 6 feet tall, white, wear glasses, thin/decent shape and have dark blonde hair. Once we start talking, I would be more than happy to swap selfies.
For hobbies, I like doing all sorts of things such as cooking/baking (always happy to swap recipes!), traveling, reading comics/manga, playing board/video games, live music, exploring the city in search of great food/cafes, and boba. This year I will try to cut back up bubble tea but do love drinking it! Ive been cooking since college and have gotten pretty good. It's been fun looking at recipes online and YouTube and making them at home. I'm a big fan of manga and comics and usually read them pretty often. I'm trying to jump start my Yelp reviews of restaurants so I'll definitely be moving around the city to review and find new food to try out!
Mainly looking in NYC and the northeast area (22+) but if you feel like we could be a nice match then feel free to message or chat!

2024.06.08 15:12 CanadianinNYCviaUK Area with great schools/lots to do

Hi, I grew up in the GTA but don’t know a ton about Hamilton, but am now considering a move there from NYC. With 2 kids under 3, I’m looking for an area with great schools (particularly K-5) and lots to do for both kids (parks, activities) and adults (cafes, shops). Thoughts? Thanks!

2024.06.08 13:44 Anotherthrowaway_222 Update on breakfast w pot hinge daddy

Here’s an update on the breakfast date I mentioned the other day.
I met a potential SD on Hinge, and we had breakfast at a cute cafe. We had a wonderful conversation, and I decided not to mention anything about a sugar arrangement. Instead, I focused on the vibes, and he was definitely happy to be near me and be seen with me.
When I got home, I texted him to say I was back, and he responded enthusiastically about the date. He said he wanted to figure things out and asked me to “lay the terms.” So, I told him my allowance requirement of $3k (I’m in the NYC area) and how things would work best for me. I asked if this was something he was on board with, and he basically said no.
Here’s a part of his response: “If this comes down to a business deal, I’d be thrilled to take you out at times, give you little gifts from time to time, and even pick up a phone bill or card payment once in a while. For that, I’d benefit just from hanging out, but would need intimacy too. If that doesn’t work for you, I get it. But even then, I’m open to staying in touch and seeing you periodically.”
I replied something short and sweet, saying that it seems we’re not quite aligned and we’ll stay friends. But let’s be real, I will not be his friend. It’s frustrating because this one felt very promising. Part of me thinks, “Well, that’s what you get for trying to get to his bag when he didn’t seem sold the first time,” but if I didn’t try, I’d always wonder.
He mentioned, “Part of me wants to say ‘awwww just do it!’ and the other part says not to,” which indicates to me that he CAN do it but is looking for a deal. He’s a lawyer, so his tendency to haggle isn’t surprising. But I can’t compromise or go down because why would I?
I feel like I need to put a ton of effort into freestyling because online, whether on SA or vanilla apps, hasn’t yielded the results I want. Saying $3k a month with gifts and being treated and him countering with paying a phone bill or a card payment while also needing intimacy is insulting. He’s in his 60s, I’m in my early 30s. Why would I be intimate with him for a phone bill when vanilla men my age, with 6 packs and hair, want to make me a traditional girlfriend and give me more than that, treading lightly on intimacy because they want to “be serious” at least for as long as they can.
It’s upsetting because I know he’s super into me and the chemistry was great! He wasn’t hot, but I wasn’t revolted by him either, especially if he was meeting my allowance. I guess it’s not a surprise, but I’m always amazed how these old guys think we would actually hang out with them for fun and for $300. My highlights alone cost $500, and my facials are pricey too. You’re not doing anything covering a phone bill, sir.
Additionally, I feel like NYC has the most rich men, but I was also talking to an older male friend who was telling me some stories about his rich friends and how they treat women. It was alarming as an SB, but I was just quiet and taking notes, probing for my insight. He basically described his friends pumping and dumping girls who are impressed by men with money. So, girls, don’t BE IMPRESSED WITH A MAN WITH MONEY. Just because he has a nice car and a nice watch does not mean he’s getting you a nice car and a nice watch. I feel these girls are giving everything for nothing, and this is why men will try their luck and offer you pennies when they can afford otherwise.
I want to give up, but it’s finally hot and sunny in my area, so I think I’ll use this time to really get out there in the wild, which I keep saying I’ll do but haven’t really done.
Thanks for following along!
TL;DR: Met a potential SD on Hinge, had a great date, but he wasn’t willing to meet my $3k/month allowance requirement. He offered to pay for small expenses in exchange for intimacy, which I find insulting. Frustrated and considering freestyling more since online isn’t yielding results. Also learned from an older friend that rich men often take advantage of women who are impressed by their money, so stay smart and don’t settle for less than you deserve.

2024.06.08 06:28 mansplanar 13 Best Solo Dates To Take Yourself On In NYC

NYC can be the most romantic place on the planet whether you’re with someone or alone! So treat yourself to the solo dates you deserve and take full advantage of this incredible city while you get to know yourself a little better. You might just love what you find!
Here are 10 best solo dates to take yourself on in NYC:
  1. Spend the day at Roosevelt Island
Start your day on a tram ride over the East River and take in all the stunning skyline sights from above. Once you get to the island, be sure to stroll along the west promenade. After admiring the gorgeous views, head over to the Panorama Room for elevated cocktails and a glimpse of every borough. Make sure to stay until sunset to watch the city illuminate!
  1. Dine at an exclusive restaurant—with little to no wait time
We all know reservations at some of the city’s most popular spots can be terribly difficult with a large party. Luckily, when you solo dine you’re more likely to score a spot when you walk in or taking a seat at an empty bar stool. And if solo dates are a new adventure for you and you’re feeling a little hesitant about dining alone, bring a book for a buddy. Hey, when you’re a few glasses in you’ll be striking up conversations with strangers in no time. We recommend you try these restaurants:
Balthazar
Thai Diner
Lilia
Mission Ceviche
  1. Take a stroll through Central Park
There’s no one better to enjoy the great outdoors with than your own company—plus, you can stroll at any pace you please! Call on your inner child and get an ice cream cone for the road or sit along one of the park benches and people watch.
  1. Read a book on the High Line
Nothing screams main character vibes like someone contently reading on a NYC bench somewhere by themselves, right? So screw the sidekick, we’re all main characters here. Whether you’re in dire need to catch up on your novel or haven’t read a book in five years, give it a whirl and see what happens! Who knows, you might end up making it a habit. Not to mention, if you get bored of the story in front of you, just look out at the incredible view you can only admire on the High Line. In need of a book? Stock up on reading materials at these NYC bookstores.
  1. Catch an entertaining show
From Broadway to a movie, live music to Amateur Night at the Apollo, or even catch one to the hottest concerts in the city! There’s no shortage of ways to keep yourself entertained without having to entertain others. Let your undivided attention admire NYC’s many talents. And the best part, you won’t have to deal with your company always nagging you with questions or comments mid-show!
  1. Treat yourself to flowers and coffee at this adorable cafe
Remi Flower & Coffee in Midtown East is the cutest spot to spend hours enjoying their plant shop and pastries. Enjoy floral lattes by ordering their Rose Matcha Latte, or keep your flowers and coffee separate while you sip on an espresso and buy yourself a bouquet. And though they have WiFi, remember you’re on a date! Regardless if it’s just with yourself, you’d never catch up on work with a date…unless of course it was going terribly—and since we’re talking about NYC here, we guess that’s not that unlikely. 🤣
  1. Take a cooking class
Tap into your inner chef and pick up some new skills at a cooking class around NYC. Whether you’re interested in learning how to prepare tamales, Risotto alla Milanese, or French classics like croissants and macarons, there’s endless options to choose from. We just attended one of Atelier Sucré‘s classes in the East Village and we’re already planning our next trip back. You’ll be paired at a table, so not only will you have a helping hand, but you’ll make new friends too!
  1. Attend a poetry slam open mic night
Listen to fellow NYers pour their hearts out at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. Hosted every Wednesday night (with the first Wednesday of the month dedicated to women orators), the Nuyorican Poets Cafe opens its stage up to anyone brave enough to stand on it and share a piece of themselves. Not a poet? No worries, you can be a part of the supportive audience. Plus, you might even get chosen to be one of the night’s judges!
  1. Roam one of NYC’s cultural institutions
From the Met to the MoMA, NYBG to the New York Public Library, New Yorkers have access to the epitome of culture right at their finger tips. Take advantage of your residency with pay-as-you-wish days or use your library card to get into some museums completely free and spend the day among art, beauty, and nature. We’re sure you’ll find the stunning surroundings company enough.
  1. Book a flight across the pond
Now, we know this one’s a little dramatic, but definitely feasible! If you’re really looking to take your solo date to the extreme, why not turn it into a solo trip? Norse Atlantic Airways is offering flights from NYC to London for as low as $120! Truly, what’s more romantic than a European vacation?
  1. Pick up a new hobby at a cool class
It’s always a good time to pick up a new hobby! You won’t need a plus one at these hands-on workshops because you’ll be way too focused to hold a conversation anyway. Learn to make rugs, make your favorite dish, or make something to eat out of at a pottery class. Most likely, there’ll be other students flying solo, so you might just leave with a new friend!
  1. Romanticize your life with a stroll through Little Paris
NYC is full of micro-neighborhoods. There’s Little Caribbean for when you’re in the mood to feel like you’re in the tropics, and Little Paris for when you want to imagine that you’re in the most romantic city in the world. You’ll find a bunch of cute Parisian-style shops, restaurants, wine shops, and more!
  1. Check out an art gallery in Chelsea
The neighborhood of Chelsea—roughly running from 14th St. to 30th St. between Seventh Ave and the Hudson River—has a rich history in the art world. Plan a cute day perusing through a few galleries and end the day with a cute dinner!

2024.06.08 05:35 Totoro631 35 [M4F] #LongIsland NY - Tall nerdy guy seeking his nerdy girl

I’m from Long Island, New York. A big nerdy guy who’s in to anime and stuff like that. I also love photography, movies, music and finding interesting new places to explore. I like going to cafes and thrift places too. Not a drinker or smoker, but will go out to a bar to see a good band play.
I’m almost 7 foot tall, chubbier guy who has a trimmed beard, short hair and glasses. Been told I give the best hugs and I’m pretty much a big teddy bear.
Would love to find some nerdy as well. Totally would love a fellow Pokémon master. Really looking for ages between 25 and 35. As I said I love nerdier girls and I wouldn’t mind a cosplayer, I’m a photographer so you know…. Free photo shoots lol. Also, you get free security guard as well!
Only really looking for local people from Suffolk/Nassau/NYC. But don’t mind something a little farther either. Hope to hear from you soon!

2024.06.08 00:05 ManCalledMolly 44 [M4F] #Kansas City - Looking for a partner in the Midwest.

Hello!
I live in Kansas City, but I've spent most of my life in the NYC metro. I moved here in 2015 for a great job, and I've been here since. I own a nice, modern home in the South Hyde Park area and live by myself. I love living inside the city and don't see myself living far away from an urban area.
I'm handsome, slim, and in great shape. I have deep, dark eyes and dark hair peppered with greys. I keep my facial hair short and well-groomed. I don't have any tattoos or piercings.
I pass regular background checks due to my job. I have no debt or unpaid bills. I'm not addicted to anything. I don't need to be taught how to care for myself or my home. I've even kept my plants alive for years! Hopefully, you've got stability and minimal drama in your life. Ideally, you're independent and have a job that you enjoy.
Politically, I'm a passionate progressive/liberal. If you have some "conservative" values, that may not necessarily be a source of conflict. However, if you're a supporter of the modern Republican party and the MAGA movement, we are not a good fit. I'm not a religious person, but it is okay if you are, as long as you can accept that I am not. Lastly, I do not have children and would prefer to date someone without children or whose kids are older and independent.
Except for a fulfilling relationship with a loving partner, I have a happy and comfortable life that isn't lacking anything. I'm capable, confident, and independent and I have my life together. I want to meet someone with the intent of developing an enduring relationship. We can proceed at a pace that makes sense for us.
Some things I enjoy:
  • Food: I have a very adventurous palate and love trying new foods. I avoid eating at the same restaurant twice to force myself to broaden my food experiences. If you're a vegan/vegetarian, that's fine! I'm open to the idea of some version of vegetarianism myself. I'm a competent cook, but I don't enjoy cooking. I would prefer a partner who does. I promise that I'm great at doing the dishes and cleaning up in the kitchen.
  • Coffee: My COVID project was learning how to appreciate coffee, and I've finally begun to. My home "cafe" looks like a meth lab. I love it. I'll make you a great, fresh cup of pour-over in the morning.
  • Fitness: My health is important to me, especially as I get older. I exercise regularly and also run. I'd love someone who prioritizes their health and fitness as well.
  • Media: I'm a huge movie buff and enjoy going to the theater, especially for spectacles. I also frequently listen to podcasts, usually about politics and the Supreme Court.
  • Reading: It's hard to beat being curled up with my Kindle and my dog. I typically read fantasy or science-fiction books.
  • Music: I love live music. I'm tolerant of just about any genre but gravitate towards indie, pop, and EDM. I like discovering new music, so if you want to share something you're vibing to and think I might like it, please share it with me.
  • Games: I love to play board games with a group or my partner. My favorites involve some sort of social component and intuition, like The Resistance. Going out for trivia nights at bars is also one of my favorite things to do. I sometimes play single-player video games that allow me to stop at any time.
  • Animals: Lover of all animals, hater of all bugs. I have one dog. He's a small and fluffy Pekingese and he loves attention. He's an absolute butthead, but I promise you'll love him.
  • Cleanliness: I'm probably the cleanest man you'll ever meet. I keep both my home and myself tidy. I'm something of a minimalist as well, as I am not a big fan of collecting tons of trinkets and knicknacks.
  • Drugs: I have no dependencies whatsoever. I only drink socially and in moderation. I don't smoke anything, and don't want to date someone who smokes a lot of anything. It smells gross and makes you taste gross. I sometimes enjoy a low-dose edible or a psychedelic. It's okay with me if you casually enjoy alcohol, marijuana, or "lighter" drugs more often than I do.
  • Traveling: I'm more of a homebody, but I like road trips. I want to drive across the country in a camper someday. I do enjoy hiking and "glamping", but I'm not a big fan of prolonged camping.
It is perfectly fine if you don't share all my interests. I want you to be your own person with your own passions. As long as we align on our core values and ideals, the rest is not all that important.
Please be serious about meeting in person. I don't want to text endlessly. If you're interested, send me Reddit mail and let's have a conversation. I can't stand Reddit Chat, so please don't use that. Please include a picture of your face with your message and describe yourself physically. It's not much different than if we were on a dating app. I will ask for a picture if you didn't include one to start. Being weird about this would lead me to believe you're not serious and I'll likely just move on.
If you're long-distance (i.e. more than 3 hours away) and still interested, feel free to message me, but only if you're willing to make an actual effort to meet me in person after chatting for a bit. Ideally, you're in a position where you'll be able to relocate to Kansas City to live with me in a hypothetical future in which we're both committed to one another.
Anyway, thanks for reading all that. Hope to hear from you!

Politicians are caving. Europe is electing conservatives. Gov. Hochul of NY halted plans to implement a $15 urban toll in NYC mirroring London.
Now EPA CAFE fuel standards have been eased for 2031:

2024.06.07 17:54 curtdbz Email list, city announcements, and guest announcements

Traveling for the next while to record in-person podcasts with people like Michael Levin, Stephen Wolfram, Karl Friston, and some other fascinating individuals with astonishing research behind them. The places include NYC, Boston, London, Oxford, Miami, and a few others I haven't determined yet. A few days prior, I'll announce that I'll be in city X, at a specific cafe at time t. If anyone wants to show up, feel free. I'll be announcing this exclusively through the email list here: https://curtjaimungal.org. Sign up if you want to be notified. An example would be: "I'll be in Chicago on the 28th of July, at the Starbucks on Michigan Ave. from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. Come say hi." There are also other announcements I send out through that list that I don't make publicly, such as upcoming guests and even links to watch some podcasts live.

2024.06.07 12:11 swiftj This thing is amazing.

So I was at a cafe with my girls and some dude attacked us and said 'tulpa'. When they asked me what it meant, I told them (mental entity that has its own free will, basically). And I suggested we ask Ray Stantz about it. They knew who I was talking about. We went to Ray's Occult in NYC and had a conversation, hanging out and getting a typical Ray infodump...
Fucking amazing. Blown away. Thank you devs for the magic you've created.
(Now go kick Google in the dick because I miss my girls!)

2024.06.07 11:05 Wintertia_ How to start as a barista?

HI! I love coffee, small to big, coffee flows in my blood vessel. With this I want to try working as a barista as my side gig (part time) Location is NYC. Never had experiences with coffee making as life didn't allow it, but I am in willing to learn asap.
I'm just curious of how to start getting a job. Most of the job posted on craigslist or other places need *experienced* barista so I'm not in the group. How did you all find where to start? Do we just go to places, hand in resume and ask if they have open spots? Would this work for big companies (starbucks, dunkin) or can I do this to the small cafe, if there is one?
Thank you all for reading :D

2024.06.06 19:38 Gingersnapsnyc Seeking a New place to lay my head ..what town or city is best?

I'm a NY native who has lived half my life in nyc so I'm ready for a more watered-down life. I'm not driving yet so a walkable town/city that has a decent public transit/uber. Safe is my top priority and low to medium cost of living. Has walkable areas with cafes, shops and supermarkets. So far I have come up with Syracuse, Buffalo, Beacon and Rochester. I'm aware of the weather because I used to visit Rotterdam and Schenectady in my youth and I will be getting a car once I'm more settled in(I have a license and just stopped driving due to living in Manhattan). I'm not expecting the transit to be anywhere like NYC, just basic to get to supermarkets etc. A artsy scene with cafes a huge plus! TIA
Edit: For those getting upset because I said watered down.😂.lol!! I have been upstate many times probably before you were born and know how it is. Watered down was the insult you took out of me explaining a more laid-back life. I know some people are upset with NYC people coming up..but the world is constantly evolving. Especially after Covid. I'm only here for peace, and to chill out. Thank you for the people who have provided me with excellent suggestions.I have essentially lived places in and out of the US and this seems right for now :)

2024.06.06 16:09 goldenAlchemist83 $1,033 / 3br - room available in 3 bed 1.5 ba, July 1st move-in, possibly sooner!

Hello! We have an opening in our 3-bedroom 1.5 bath household in Bushwick. Looking for communicative and chill individuals in the 20s-30s age bracket. There are two cats in the house so be aware if you are allergic or don't like animals!
Pictures of the room and space are available here: https://imgur.com/a/xLhywNp
The room is available for sure July 1st but will probably be available mid-June if you'd like to move in sooner.
The apartment is a simple but classy third floor walk up with rooftop access and a decent view of the city. We have central air, a spacious living room with a projector, game systems, HDMI hookup, nice speakers, and a digital piano. It’s a great hangout spot if you’re looking to host friends, watch movies, or play games. The building is steps away from the Wilson Ave L subway station for easy commute options!
The one-year lease began in September but our third roommate was subletting from me with the landlord’s knowledge on a month-to-month basis and is moving, hence the opening. This flexible sublet arrangement means that you could try out the area/house without being locked in. With that said, we are prioritizing potential roommates who are looking to be around for at least a few months, ideally longer, but happy to consider any and all who think their energy would be a good match. (There is a hefty fee to add someone to the lease but I have a sublease we can sign if you prefer the month-to-month approach).
The entire apartment is $3,100 a month so your rent will be $1,033 (though this will probably go up 30-50$ when the new lease begins, as there’s usually a small rent increase each year), plus utilities (internet, electricity, gas - this ranges in total from $60 per person during the colder months to upwards of $150 per person during the warmer months due to the central air - I can give you a month-by-month breakdown over the past year to help you predict if you'd like). We do request a one month security deposit along with your first month’s rent. That security deposit will be returned in full as long as you give at least a month’s notice before moving out. I have a sublease agreement we can sign so that your deposit is protected.
The available room has a closet with shelves and one window. With the high ceilings you could add more shelves to give yourself more storage room. The room shares a wall with one of the roommates (me), and opens up to the living room area (closeby is the half bath).
The building has in-house laundry in the basement, it's operated via a phone app which can be a little glitchy sometimes but it is convenient. If there is ever an issue there are laundromats within one to three blocks. There is a door-code for the building so packages are usually safe but there have been the occasional thefts. We try to bring up each others’ packages if we can to help mitigate risk.
The neighborhood is sweet; lots of families but also a thriving younger community with bars, cafes, and cute shops all within walking distance.
Your roommates:
Kris: 34, they/them/he/him, musician/stoner who works as a remote piano teacher (all of my classes are taught from my bedroom so I won’t be in the common area teaching, though you will hear me talking a lot as the open room shares a wall with mine; I generally teach about 30 classes a week). I enjoy being active, museums, music, reading, and nyc nightlife. Double pisces, aquarius rising.
Ben: 26, he/him, stoner and nerd. I teach special Ed so I’m usually pretty busy during the week but I’m always down to smoke and watch something funny/scary! In my free time I’m usually writing, doing lesson prep, drawing, or playing video games.
Spaghetti: the orange cat: he’s very soft and very adventurous. He does have a knack for finding the highest possible place he can reach and getting up there. He’s generally quiet, very affectionate, but has his mischief-making moments. Sometimes he’ll want to play fetch with his favorite toy, a pink mouse.
Little Mac: the gray cat, also very affectionate, obsessed with strings. Whereas Spaghetti wants to cuddle with everyone but is happy to doze on his own, Little Mac takes longer to warm up to touch but generally wants to be around people. He’s a little more hyper than Spaghetti but better behaved…usually. He does get anxious if his people leave or aren’t around and can be pretty loud with his meows as he looks for his friends but he has grown a lot in this area. Still, be aware that occasionally he’s an in-house alarm clock!
This is a great household for creative, queer, and healing energy. We both do our own thing but occasionally will hang out together. You're welcome to befriend us or you can do your own thing. As long as you approach group dynamics with open communication and respect you'll fit right in! Company is welcome over so long as you check-in if you're looking to reserve the common area for yourself or friends.
Happy to answer any questions! Otherwise please reach out and tell us a little bit about yourself in your opening message. Empty messages/profiles (ie: "hi is it still available") will go ignored. We can give you a virtual tour if you’d like or we can set up an in-person toumeeting.
