2024.05.15 15:25 ArianChandler Salvage Submarine, Anyone?

How cool would it be if Argo made a mini sub that could salvage underwater wrecks?
Perhaps it could be deployed from an amphibious boat which could in turn be carried by some of the larger spaceships. The sub could bring salvage up to the boat. Maybe the sub could be an ROV to keep everything more compact.
Or maybe instead of having an amphibious boat and mini sub, you just have a larger, manned, amphibious submarine! It could drive in and out of a Hercules or be carried by a RAFT.
This probably wouldn't be useful until after dynamic server meshing.

2024.05.15 11:22 Future-Location1978 Salvaging is good

Don't take contracts. You CAN make a profit but there's a better way.
Use a stock Vulture to start. The only upgrade you need is to replace the tractor beam with another Abrade tip. Feel free to sell the 2 Cinches if you want. This isn't essential but it makes it quicker and eassier while still getting you a lot of cash.
Go to ANY Lagrange point. Those are the HUR-L1, CRU-L1, ARC-L1, MIC-L1 locations on the map. They don't have to be the L1 specifically, they can be ANY of the L-whatever.
Hit "tab" and look for just a bunch of asteroids. Truly just pick a direction and fly. I just boost till I'm out and then stop.
Scan for panels. Pres "V" to engage scanning mode. It will have 2 crescent bars to the left and right of your center reticle. Hit tab to "ping". You will see "unknown" clusters of dots pop up randomly. While stationary just look around in all direction and center your reticle on each one. To the right and slightly above the crescents around your center reticle it will have a little readout with numbers. You want ANY number divisible by 2000. So you are looking for numbers like 6000, 8000, 12000 and anything else that matches that. Then fly at it hammering that tab button like it owes you money!
If you want to get fancy "mouse wheel up" to increase your scanning power when looking at the cloud of dots that's divisible by 2000. You don't NEED to, but feel fancy and like a techie and do it. You will see some tag looking upside down teardrops appear. Those show the exact locations of panels.
Fly directly at the panels (you won't explode... normally). The panels will vanish in SC 10/10 fashion when you are like 4-5k out from them. When you get to this point lazily hit the "N" key to engage your magical space brake/landing gear and "slow boat" it towards the last known location of those upside down tear drops.
WATCH YOUR HUD. In the middle it will say "collision" in red, if you see that... stop. A panel will appear and as you move around the others panels you saw before will reappear magically. Skin those with your double Abrade tips. Make sure you go down below when you max out the buffer and jankily stack your boxes using a multi-tool tractor beam attachment. If you are a cool kid you can stack about 22-25 boxes in an extremely dangerous and typical SC way. Just stack like 12-13 your first time so you don't blow up.
Then go sell your boxes of shittily stacked RMC at any PLANETS (not moon or station) TDD.
You will make good money. Not fantastic, not the best money/hr. However you will be an industrial, blue collar scumbag like me and doing only this you can casually make a mil in a day. It's kinda slow... kinda boring... but I'm old... so it works.
Pro tip. Salvage a shit load and load it into your cargo hold all janky like. Then keep salvaging and fill your buffer back to the 13. Go sell your shit stack and then call your ship back, fly out of armistice range, pull the remaining 13 out and stack them slightly less shittily and go back to the port to sell the rest. You will make like 3-4 hundred k per run doing this. Or more, I can't be asked to do the math but is decent. Also you are in a small shitty ship so anyone who pirates you is a small time piece of shit and I hope their kids never learn to read.
Money.
Edit: I saw too many shitty tutorials on YouTube and it annoyed me. So while pounding whiskey and double dogs I decided to subject you poor fucks to this. Enjoy
Edit 2: OK jesus I'm sick of typing it. YES SOMETIMES YOU CAN GET THE TRACTOR BEAM TO WORK IN THE HANGAR. However I've had it NOT work way more than I've had it actually work for me. I do know however that it works 100% of the time outside of Armistace. So do try it when jumping in your ship and if it works, sweet you saved some time. If not, don't fret, just fly up a bit, do it and fly back down.

2024.05.15 07:00 solo13508 Pulling out a win against all the odds!

Well as a new PS5 player I have already had my shares of both incredible and absolutely rotten luck. This story has to be the worst luck I've had in my short career on the game so far. And yet somehow against all the odds I managed to come out on top! (for the most part anyway). Without further ado... A short time ago... On a sea far far away...
Our story begins with me doing some good ol grinding for the Merchant Alliance. My emissary flag was Grade 4 and I knew that one more Lost Shipment voyage would likely get me to Grade 5 so I decided to spring for that and chose to dive to it. As soon as I come up I pick up my first clue and then immediately check the map for Reapers. I see 2 on the map. One is pretty far away. Another is closer than is comfortable but not close enough that I could spot with my telescope. Weary of my unwanted neighbors I sailed to my next location.
I arrive to the next island and pick up the next clue (along with the key to the captains cabin) without incident. Until I got back on my sloop anyway. I check the map again and see that the one Reaper is now headed in my direction. Now I am aware that what I did next was very stupid. I don't need you guys to tell me because I worked that out for myself thank you very much. But I couldn't actually see them with the naked eye just yet and for some reason I wanted to wait to see if they were actually coming for me or if they were just passing me by to go somewhere else.
I wait for about a minute and eventually I see what appears to be a fully crewed Reaper Galleon. And yessir they are gunning right for me! In hindsight it is very obvious that they were definitely coming for my emissary flag but for some reason that didn't occur to me at the time. Kicking myself for wasting so much time I lower the sail and get moving but they were already gaining thanks to the headstart I idiotically gave them. The chase was on!
Now a salty old pirate once told me that no ship on the Sea of Thieves can catch a sloop that's going against the wind. I had never actually tested this for myself but now was as good a time as any! Problem with that was the wind was very much in my favor (ironically enough) and while I was fast the galleon was faster. I knew I needed to turn around but being a solo slooper making a quick turn while still keeping track of where I was going and where my Reaper friends were was easier said than done. And they had just gotten within cannon range and had started trying to take my mast down. Thankfully that effort failed but plenty of their missed chainshots were smacking into my hull which was also no good.
I see a big rock coming out of the water to the right of my boat. I decided I would use it as my opportunity to turn around and hopefully get a chance at repairing my boat. So I halve my sail and start turning around the rock. This gave me some brief cover from the Reaper but they did manage to get a couple more shots in beforehand while I was moving slower. I manage to get around the rock and put my heading against the wind but in the process managed to clip the rock on my right side. My ship now had tons of holes which I had barely gotten a chance to repair any of. And the Reaper had come around the rock at that point and were taking as many shots at me as they still could likely realizing what I was planning. I lowered my sails all the way and quickly made my way below deck to frantically repair and bail as fast as I possibly could.
Somehow I managed to salvage the sloop in the absolute nick of time. I check out the back of the boat and breathe a massive sigh of relief as I see that speed is indeed now on my side. The Reaper is still chasing but they're dropping farther into the distance.
In the excitement of the chase I hadn't gotten a chance to check where my next clue led yet. I do so now and realize I'm actually already sailing directly towards the island I need. However this presents a problem as the Reaper is still on my tail and stopping to search the island will likely give them plenty of time to catch up. I realize that unfortunately I'm going to have to sail past the island until they eventually give up.
They literally never gave up. Even with me gaining more and more distance I could still see them tenaciously still on my tail. This went on for maybe 3-4 minutes before my unexpected savior arrived. Remember that other Reaper I saw on the map earlier? Well they show up (another Galleon) seemingly out of nowhere. They likely saw my emissary flag as well but fortunately they also saw the Reaper behind me and apparently decided that I was the lesser threat of the two ships. So they go right on by me to engage the other Reaper. (This is basically the only good luck I had throughout this entire tale).
I'll spare you all the minute details of the next 20ish minutes but long story short I managed to find all the other stuff I needed and eventually came upon the shipwreck whilst the two Reapers were still battling. I grab everything I need from there and check my map again. Once again it was just in the nick of time as one of the Reapers had finally sunk with the winner now coming for me once more.
I was now a Grade 5 emissary and had a good amount of loot on my boat. While I had initially intended to keep my flag up for longer I decided in the wake of the circumstances to make way for the nearest outpost and sell everything and get my flag down hopefully all before the Reaper caught up. That way I could face them head on without worrying about losing anything important. This time I managed to avoid my idiotic mistake from earlier and got moving immediately before they were even in sight. The next Outpost was close enough that I was fairly confident I could make it and do everything I needed before they got close enough to be a problem.
If only it were so easy. For it wasn't long before distinctly ominous music began playing. I'm not yet experienced enough that I knew immediately what was about to happen based off the music alone but I knew it definitely wouldn't be good as whatever appeared, dealing with it would likely burn the headstart I had on the much more pressing threat behind me. Seconds later a skeleton ship rises up right next to me. My heart sinks. Usually I'd take the time to deal with a skeleton ship myself but with the Reaper getting ever closer I simply did not have that kind of time. I knew I had no choice but to keep heading towards the outpost while fending off the skellies as best I could.
It did not go well. The skeletons were hitting me fast and the efforts of keeping my ship afloat kept me from checking that my heading was correct. I was also unable to check the position of the Reaper so while I knew that my clock was ticking I didn't know exactly when it was going to ring. I eventually managed to spot the outpost with my naked eye so I do my best to point myself at the Sovereigns and then head back down for more repairs.
I come back up to see that I'm about to crash directly into the Sovereign dock. I get on my wheel to desperately try to correct myself. I would've just barely had time to do so if a cannonball from the skeletons didn't come flying directly into my wheel and remove my steering capability. I end up crashing directly into their dock.
Knowing I wouldn't have time to position myself any better I hit the anchor and ran back down to start fixing as much as I could. It turned out to be a hopeless endeavor. For every hole I fixed the Skeletons would put a new one in me and since I was parked there was little I could do. Looking out the back of my ship I also finally see the Reaper coming. They're moving at a steady pace but still far enough that I had some time. I decide to just get onto the Sovereign's harpoon and start selling everything I could while my ship was still afloat and I still had my emissary flag.
Next problem arises: Turns out I had crashed into the dock in such a position that neither of the harpoons could reach my loot. This was now officially the worst case scenario. I had no choice but to manually move all the loot onto the dock whilst simultaneously bailing and repairing to keep my ship afloat while the skeletons continued harassing me and the Reaper crept ever closer. Somehow by the force of pure willpower I managed to sell most of the important stuff and keep the ship afloat before the Reaper finally arrived. Knowing I was officially out of time I ran for the Merchant representative as fast as I could to take my flag down. Again, at the absolute last possible second I managed to do it and collect my final payout before the Reapers opened fire on my helpless sloop. With the combined efforts of them and the Skeletons it wasn't long before my beautiful ship made her way to Davy Jones's locker.
But along with that I heard the most wonderful thing I had all day. One of the Reapers was yelling "God damn it they took the flag down!!!". They seemed to be in a general rage that they had lost out on most of the rewards from catching me. At this point I revealed myself and threw all my firebombs at their ship whilst taunting them for their wasted efforts. Of course I died in battle before long but I did so with great joy knowing that against all the odds I was the one who came out on top. And given that they had to presumably deal with the Skeleton ship after me I dare say that their hunt for me was far more trouble than I was worth. Ended up losing some of my loot but not enough to be of any major concern. Definitely not enough to make their efforts worthwhile anyway. I don't know for sure if it was the same Reaper who was hounding me from the beginning of this story but man I hope it was because that would only make my victory here all the sweeter! And thus this tale comes to it's righteous conclusion.
Fin.

2024.05.14 21:53 Aginagala WWF Wrestlemania 13 Review

Welcome back to my running series of WWF PPV Reviews from a ‘blind’ perspective (I have no idea what’s going to happen; the results, the feuds or how good any of the matches will be). I have always heard stories of the attitude era and golden age but never watched it myself so I set myself to watching every single PPV event chronologically. I am also watching Wrestling Bios ‘reliving the war’ series to keep me updated inbetween the events with the feuds, and to get excited about upcoming matches.
Before I review the matches, based on the past few episodes of raw and last PPVs I’ll let you know, going into the event, which match I’m most excited for and which feud I’m most excited to see.
Is it even a question? Even though I haven’t watched wwf during this era I’ve heard stories of how fantastic Austin vs Bret hart at WM13 is, feud and match wise this is my most hyped match of the night.
WWF Wrestlemania 13 1997 Review
Four way Tag Team Elimination Match 1.75/5
Rocky Maivia vs Sultan 1.75/5
HHH vs Goldust 2.5/5
Vader & Mankind vs Owen Hart & Bulldog 2.5/5
Stone Cold vs Bret Hart 6/5
Nation of Domination vs LOD & Johnson 3/5
Undertaker vs Sycho sid 1.5/5
In the opener of the match I thought it was just an 8 man slug fest will pinfalls to eliminate each person as they all just start beating the sh*t out of each other but then they go back to the usual tag team corners, a little disappointing but let’s see what this match has got.
The godwins are growing on me… just a bit, not very much but a bit; spitting on people, dancin around like mad men they’re an okay watch from time to time I won’t lie. What happened to lafon and furnas in this match though? Did they just disappear? It felt like a blink and you’ll miss it I swear they didn’t even get in the match but maybe I’m crazy. In terms of an opener with tag teams this was an okay match it wasn’t anything special but it did its job. The headbangers did some cool aerial moves, trying to prove themselves was good to see but not too much to say. It was a little messy with teams literally eliminating themselves, but nothing botched.
It feels like there’s been next to no build up to this sultan rocky match, it was just thrown together as, in terms of main attractions, the wwf was still pretty thin.
The match gets going and rocky is firing on all four cylinders tonight, he’s improved extremely quickly from his first match, show boating, over hyping the smallest of moves he’s getting exciting to watch. The same however can’t really be said about sultan, as soon as he gets control the match really slows down and gets pretty boring (holding a chin lock for all eternity). Rock gets back in control and here we go, he’s really feeling it tonight and his moves are looking really clean, especially his punch exchanges. This match wasn’t really anything too special but it’s great to see Rocky starting to warm up in the WWF. Sultan and sheik assault Rocky after the match and oh my god the splash from the top rope looked so painful for Rocky 💀. Then Rocky’s dad comes out to help and we get a great crowed pop after rock and his dad both slam the iron sheik, this was actually a really cool moment; father and son in the ring. The crowd still isn’t behind Rocky all that much yet still, which is kinda surprising as his wrestling is good to watch but I suppose his character itself is a little bland.
Chyna and HHH come to the ring and the camera pans to a couple of fans signs “HHH + CHYNA WHO HAS THE WILLY” which were f***ing hilarious, the public is always on point. It’s also insane how massive Chyna is here, she actually looks bigger than triple H. You would not wanna walk past her down a dark alley.
Goldust and HHH actually had a really good match, everything they did looked really clean, it was fast paced, good wrestling shown and an okay feud to fuel the fire between them. This is the best I’ve seen Goldust in a while and HHH is really building his repertoire of moves up; They had some great chemistry as well and the crowd starts getting into the match towards the end, a stark contrast to previous events where it would almost be silence until the main event. The match ends with marlena being shoved into Chyna and being literally tossed around like a rag doll I’m surprised her head didn’t come off, triple H hits a pedigree and it’s 1 2 3 goodnight Goldust. There wasn’t anything crazy but I enjoyed watching this match, well paced, good physical moments including Goldust going face first from the top rope into the side of the ring which looked really good.
Mankind and Vader REALLY work as a concept for a team in the WWF during this era for me, very intimidating but also two great entertaining wrestlers. Mix them with Owen hart and bulldog and you’ve got a great match on your hands… right? Well turns out maybe not. The two teams didn’t particularly click well as they were both heel teams with no baby face. This being said they still put on a good show (my god bulldog is incredibly strong to hold mankind up like he did and then do the same to Vader!?) but it wasn’t anywhere near as good as it should’ve been on paper. That finish as well? Why… I don’t know why they’d book that finish in a wrestlemania event, a double count out? 😴. I still think it had its good moments and I did enjoy watching it but like I say it wasn’t nearly as good as it should’ve been.
Now… I’ve heard so much about this match with stone cold and Bret hart at WM13, so I did have high expectations going in, and with a fantastic build up, an iconic series of promos from either side I was hyped I was ready willing and able to sit back and enjoy whatever I was about to see.
I gotta say it exceeded every single expectation I had. The crowd from the first punch to the end submission was absolutely electric, they ate up every single second of this match and I can’t blame them it was awesome!!! This is now in my top 5 matches of all time, maybe even top 3, it had everything I could’ve asked for. No interference from anyone else no weird ending no stupid sh*t going on just two legends having a full on war at the biggest wrestling event of the year. I also love how Austin never tapped and literally passed out from the pain which was a really good booking choice to keep his character still looking really strong. We had blood we had chairs we had ring bells and fighting in the crowd I’m gushing about this match. It was perfectly paced as well even when it ‘slowed down’ it was entertaining. Some iconic images of stone cold in the shooting star press, face covered in blood. Absolutely flawless match and the best match I’ve seen so far in this era. The crowd ends up backing Steve Austin for his efforts and because Bret decided to continue the assault after the bell, finally hearing that deafening ‘Austin’ chant throughout the stadium was really cool. I can’t say enough, if you haven’t seen this match go and watch it right this second you’re in for a massive treat. And this match gets its own 6/5 rating which I think I’ll introduce for matches that are all time legendary matches, in my opinion, and they aren’t gunna come out often but I have to, the whole thing was simply in its own league. WOWOW!
I’m just finding it hard to put into words how entertaining this was I was glued to the screen. A brutal submission when Bret Hart is pulling Steve’s leg off almost outside the ring and Steve is in the ring had me wincing. Also Austin’s selling, and his hype between shots shouting at Bret and giving him the double trouble with his hands it’s all just so iconic, this match must truly have cemented Austin as a main eventer going forward.
This whole match just screamed Attitude era style match and I seriously believe this must have been extremely influential on the wwf going into the coming years. Having seen Austin’s matches in the future I have to say this has got to be one of if not his best technical wrestling match of all time, I can see both wrestlers being even bigger stars after this match it was that good. Top 3 all time favourite matches, wow, well done to both of them for this. Experiencing this for the first time was magical I can’t imagine watching it live or being there, I’m very jealous. It’s currently a Monday evening and I was shouting and on my feet and as I write this I’m pacing back and forth with glee. I’m gunna have to take a break before the next match 😂.
It’s a shame that hart vs Austin wasn’t the main event because there’s absolutely no way anyone could upstage up to the match we’ve just seen, but I’ll try to go into the next couple of matches not comparing it to the previous one.
The LOD vs NOD match was absolute chaos I was literally laughing because it was so fun to watch, I had no clue what was going on there was so much to look at and once again this was another attitude era style match. It was pretty entertaining. It felt a little experimental and I would’ve liked to have seen at least a little bit of wrestling but during the whole bout there was maybe 3 or 4 moves that weren’t hitting each other with trash cans, literally hanging each other with nooses, freezing with fire extinguisher it was nuts.
We’re really feeling the influence of ECW in this match and it was great to hear the crowd so alive and enjoying it, they were probably riding the high of the legendary match we’d just seen as well as me. This was the first time seeing LOD for me and it was great, the reminded me of the Dudley boyz which are my second favourite tag team of all time. But seeing weapons finally introduced into the wwf was amazing and I’m super excited to see future brawls I think this is all taking a huge leap in the right direction for making mid card matches more enjoyable. Post match LOD hits a double flying closeline and on two NOD members and it was a decently booked bout. Not the best but good fun.
Shawn Michaels makes his way to the ring and like him or not it’s always great to see Shawn at wrestlemania, and here we go I’m ready for a great main event, obviously knowing the streak I know the outcome but I’m excited to see what the two monsters of the WWF can do in the ring. Side note, it’s really cool seeing undertaker come to the ring in his vintage attire.
Bret hart comes to the ring just as the match is about to get underway to fully engage with his heel turn in the WWF and I think it felt… a little bit out of place but he gets hit with a power-bomb to the applause of the audience which was pretty satisfying. Let’s get into this massive main event match, and oh boy… the main event.
I was majorly disappointed at this main event especially after the matches we’d just seen it just did not hit at all for me. It never felt like it really got going even in the last part with undertaker kicking out of a tombstone piledriver to a big crowd pop… it just didn’t feel like a main event.
Dont get me wrong Sid’s character is cool and he plays it well but he just cannot perform on the big stage with the big players of the business. I don’t know how you can book such a perfect match like Bret and Austin and then have this as the main event. Bret shouldn’t have interfered either the undertaker did not need it at all. The coolest part of this match was the undertakers iconic celebration afterwards. Please don’t let Sid main event again, he had a great push and was fun to watch but he just can’t do these matches when the time calls for something of this magnitude. Very disappointing, very slow match, and I won’t lie probably the worst main event I’ve seen on my journey through this era. I also looked it up and apparently sid literally sh*t his pants during this match? I’d love to know if that’s true or not. But yeah that’s all I really have to say about this one, not much happened and there was an extremely tedious segment in the middle of the match where sid was going to the second ring rope and dropping a double fist on undertaker which seemed to go on for so long and it was just boring.
Overall the event was pretty decent but the main event really let it down. I won’t let that sour how amazing Bret vs Austin was though, they truly carried this event and elevated it majorly and it’s worth watching even if just for that one match. I enjoyed most of the mid card alongside that as well but with all the build up to such a let down, actually think the main event was the worst match of the night, and that’s coming from a massive undertaker fan.
Overall rating 3.25/5

2024.05.14 20:00 Cjspillman New Weather/Map Ideas

New WeatheMap Ideas
  1. Supercell storms! Imagine if there was a massive anvil cloud in the near distance with tornado alarms blaring eerily, the radios on the emergency storm broadcast, and maybe even random hail that debuffs players and forces them indoors. If the game takes place in April, then this is prime tornado season in Texas. The last EF5 tornado in Texas was in Jarrell (slide 3), just 40 miles from Austin. I feel this could very well be implemented in a way that fits with lore, while making maps we already know much more sinister.
  2. A Texas bayou map! There is a city in eastern Texas called Uncertain on Caddo Lake sharing the border with Louisiana. It is remote (population of 83), tree shrouded, and has one of the densest alligator populations in the entire states of both Texas and Louisiana. I feel like it could fit into the lore of a new killer, similar to Nancy’s house, and could be fairly large with vast pockets of open space. Perhaps there could be even be dense fog effects for the night and morning. Victims could even dare tread through the shallow water to escape the family, where the only way out is by boat.
Thoughts?

2024.05.14 19:50 AnythingButRO Stranded at Sea (Need some advice)

Hey everyone! I wanted to post this question in a sailing/ship sub of some sort but it is unbelievably hard to find one that isn't based on either modern boating or has a heavy focus on the existence of pirates. That being said, I'm taking my chances that someone here might know a thing or two about medieval era ships.
I'm planning a seafaring campaign and I'm starting my party out on a ship (galleon or larger) that's transferring them to some Alcatraz equivalent. They will shipwreck for [reasons] and end up marooned on an (allegedly) uninhabited island. My plan for them to leave (provided they don't come up with their own sensible ideas) is to have some of the surviving crew scrapping the transport ship to make a keelboat of some sort. Definitely not good, but a better starting ship and much more seaworthy than a raft or a makeshift canoe, haha.
Is it even possible to do something like that without a shipyard? Or at all? I admittedly am not well-versed on how keels work, I just know that if they are broken, your ship's likely done for. I legitimately have no idea if you can just salvage a segment of a keel and slap it on a new, smaller sailing ship. If it is possible, how much time would that take, roughly? I imagine it might take a month for a smallish crew to do something like that even if they have the proper tools and some minor magic at their disposal. I of course say I don't want my level one PCs fighting some hardened sailors/guards strong enough to magic a ship together in one go if they fail or decide against stealth, haha. That, and magic is slowly dying in my world so casters are a bit on the rare side.
I know this is a really silly ask but I do like some minor realism in my games when possible. If anyone has any better ideas/potential alternatives for getting off the island that wouldn't be super farfetched, I'd also love to hear them!
PS: If anyone has a source of free maps with some islands/general sea locales, I'd love if they shared them!

2024.05.13 22:08 Chika-chan44 Am I the ahole for defending myself against a friend who wasn’t even present during the original argument?

Hello all! I’m a big Charlotte Dobre fan, and a long time lurker in the community. It took some time for me to work up the courage to post this story, but I feel as thought I am finally ready to share.
So a bit of background. I had this friend group of a few women throughout my high school and college years and into my adult life. They were all like sisters to me and we got along well. Most of these friends I made in high school, such as Kate and Mary, two of the friends this story involves, but one, whose shall call Lauren, which this story now revolves around, I had had since kindergarten. We were the quintessential childhood friends. I was even her maid of honor in her wedding; we were that close. However, this story does not involve her wedding which was by and large lovely. This story takes place a few years after the fact.
Now, I know I am a people pleaser. Because of my nature, I look for the best in people almost to a fault. As such, I was bullied more than once growing up and while I stood up for myself when it was blatant, sometimes I wasn’t able to do so when it was the more insidious, backstabbing sort of bullying. I have also been bad with social cues my whole life (ADHD can do that) so I was often blindsided by backstabbing since I never even knew I had angered the person in question. Because of this, I used to encourage people to be brutally honest with me, and perhaps therein lies some fault of my own. In any case though, looking back, I realize now that while things hadn’t always been bad, at some point, my friends, specifically Lauren had stopped treating right. They were always sarcastic people and even proud of this fact, but sarcasm and being downright mean have a veeeeeery thin line between them. I cannot recount everything they said or did, but I can recount some. They yelled at me for silly jokes (I made a TAZ joke during a DND session Lauren was running and she about ripped my throat out), they would often ignore or give me silent treatments, and I was gaslit in the regular by Mary, especially.
I often left our hangouts feeling not so great about myself and eventually tried to bring up my hurt feelings a couple times. It did not go well, resulting in fights and threats to the friendship that would only calm when I apologized.
I should also take time to state that this group, specifically Lauren and an extended group of her friends that I was becoming acquainted with, would often find someone who did something “problematic” and would unceremoniously ostracize and cut them off, dubbing them as “toxic.” However, when this started I was so deep in, I didn’t question it, assuming I didn’t know the full situation. I, in passing, would worry it might happen to me eventually, but pushed away that fear, believing I was a good person and so were they, so that wouldnt come to pass. How wrong I was.
Anyways, to the day in question. I went into our shared Discord group, just to browse and chat since I had some extra time on my hands. Now, I want to preface this with the fact I am not a religious person, but I am spiritual, and I identify as a Christian in large part. I noticed that day, they put up a meme in the group chat insulting Christianity directly. I did not find it funny, but I kept my cool and messaged Kate, who originally posted it, that I was a Christian, and while she did not mean anything by it, I was sure, I wanted her to please take it down. Instead of apologizing, acquiescing, or anything like that, she mercilessly ripped into me, back up by all the others, except Lauren, who was offline the time. I immediately felt bad for rocking the boat, but luckily, my dear sister Mags was there and helped me stand my ground, checking my messages before I sent them, so as to make sure they were coherent and not too emotional (she did this with my blessing, just so everyone is aware).
After a while of Mary gaslighting me and Kate just being straight up mean, Kate comes out with “I can’t worry about what offends you. That’s not my problem.” I in turn tell her she is echoing the sentiments of the alt right, which in turn makes her demand an apology for calling her a N**i or she’ll block me. I never used that word, but I hold my ground and say “I can’t worry about what offends you. That’s not my problem.” Then summarily block her.
By now, I’m in tears, like uncontrollably sobbing. My sister comforts me and eventually I calm, though I am still horribly depressed. The drama has not yet abated though, for soon I realize that Lauren has deleted me from the DND group chat I shared with her, Kate and a few others. I message her right away and she states that I was mean to Kate and she thought it best that I was kicked out of the group. I ask her if this is her way of cutting ties with me and she says unless I apologize, then yes. I refuse to apologize and though I am horribly sad, we bid each other goodbye and I believed amicably part ways.
Cut to a couple days later. I noticed that on Facebook, mutual friends of Lauren’s and mine are unfreezing and even blocking me. I have no problem dea what is happening, but put two and two together and realize that Lauren must be talking s**t. I message a mutual friend and she confirms, saying she doesn’t want to associate with someone who could do that to Lauren. I have no idea what “that” is or how Lauren was even hurt by me since she had wanted to part ways, we did so supposedly amiably, and she hadn’t even been PRESENT during the initial argument. I am horrified and here’s where I might be the ahole. I went into panic mode and message every mutual friend of outlet, telling them not to believe her in an attempt to salvage these “friendships.” Instead of support, an onslaught of hatred and vile messages invaded my inbox, telling me just terrible things. I won’t recount them here, but I was bawling by the end and had to leave work early that day since I was in such a terrible mental state. Needless to say, I unfriended all and block most of our mutual friends-turned-flying monkeys.
That was largely the end of it. A few more messages passed between Lauren and me, consisting of me both apologizing for the knee jerk message, but also damning her. She called me abusive and said I was an awful friend. I eventually blocked her number.
It’s been a couple years but I am still hurting from this incident. I am on the mend, thanks to therapy, my remaining friends and loving family. I work everyday to leave it behind me, but I still have to wonder.. Am I the ahole?

What ultimately happened to the lifeboats?
I know nothing survives of the original Titanic lifeboats today except for some nameplates, and I know their ultimate fate is unknown after December 1912, but I'm curious what theories there are about what happened to them.
I've heard one theory that they were reused on Olympic, but I've also heard that that theory was later debunked (not sure how it was, though).
I think it's unlikely the boats would have been simply left in storage. Most were probably in good enough condition to be reused, but I find it odd that they just disappeared from the historical record afterwards. I don't even believe any wood from them is still around. If the boats were infamous enough at the time for some people to salvage the nameplates, one would think there would be some record of what happened to them, or at least some effort made to preserve them.
Always been something that confused me.

2024.05.13 05:53 solo13508 Some people really need to learn to let things go in this game.

TLDR: Guy who already had a ton of loot tries to steal from me, loses it all, hunts me across the map in a rage.
Alright so here I am working on a Captain's Vault for the Gold Hoarders. I'm on an island looking for the chest that will have the key to the vault. Along the way I had picked up various other bits of treasure including an Ashen Chest with a few things inside. Anyways I found the chest I'm looking for and start heading back to the ship with it only to see that another sloop is pulling up right next to me. In a panic I drop the chest where it's at and hurry back to the boat in case I need to defend it.
I get onto my boat and curiously the guy hasn't fired any cannons at me. In fact I don't see him at all. I look around in the water and eventually spot him swimming the distance to my sloop (in a way where he's obviously trying to be stealthy but failing.) I get out the loudspeaker gadget and say "hey man I see you, whatcha doin there?". He immediately swims up to the surface and climbs the ladder up my sloop. He remains silent for about ten seconds before finally turning on his mic. I didn't attack him yet since he hadn't been very aggressive as of yet. He just says he has a Gold Hoarders quest on the island too and decided to say hello. (One glance at his sloop did confirm he was indeed flying the Gold Hoarder flag as I was). Trying to be friendly I offer to help him find whatever he's looking for but he goes silent again and then turns to look at my treasure pile for a second before turning back to me. The situation was quickly becoming awkward so I just told him I left a chest I needed on the island and would be right back.
So I go back to grab the chest with the vault key and return to my sloop to see that he's gone. I look towards his sloop and see him swimming towards it carrying my Ashen Chest. Honestly I was kind of so shocked by the sheer audacity of this guy so much that I almost decided to just let it go considering I had a vault to get to. But the vengeful side of me won out and so I start filling his ship with holes (the fool had parked his sloop right within my cannon range). The guy wasn't even back aboard his ship when I started shooting so he stood no chance of salvaging the situation. I sink the sloop and then snipe him to death.
A whole bunch of loot immediately floats up the surface. This guy was carrying a shit load of loot for all three of the main factions. Not to mention his emissary flag was Grade 5. At this point I was having a good laugh that this guy was already extremely loaded and decided to risk it all for one chest. I go to check where the island with the vault is and turns out it's literally at the opposite end of the map from where I am and so I decide to stop by an outpost to sell my newfound haul first.
With that done I start heading towards the vault island. Before long I notice that there's a sloop coming in from the left side of my boat who's clearly gunning for me. Upon closer inspection it's definitely the same guy so I prepare for battle.
Where he had very little to say before the guy was very talkative now. He starts cursing me out and demanding all of his stuff back. I inform him that it's already gone which just increases the level of cursing. He goes on the offensive immediately but it quickly becomes clear that he's not thinking straight. Managed to crash himself into a big rock when I had barely even gotten a chance to respond to his attack. Long story short he sunk once again and I continued on my way.
He hunts me down two more times after that. Same thing happens both times. He curses at me, attacks, and quickly does himself in with stupid mistakes with me barely having to lift a finger to defend myself. Fortunately he gave up by the time I reached the island I needed because I was beginning to get annoyed by his antics. Rest of the voyage proceeded without incident.
Moral of the story: When you make a stupid decision own up to it and move on with your life. Don't hunt down the guy you already tried to steal from and sink and failed on every attempt. You get nothing out of it except stressing yourself out even further.

A PSA and a Thanks
At the recommendation of this sub, I bought myself a Lululemon belt bag to use when I don’t want to lug around my daily driver, a LV Delightful GM. I’d wanted something more practical for awhile and kept pushing it off bc it wasn’t a “need” and it’s been a tight year for us. Knowing I had plans to take two of my young kids to a bbq at the lake Saturday, and I would be solo bc hubs was at an event with our older, I bought it Friday night as a Mother’s Day gift for myself 🥰 Today at the lake, I wore it by the water and on the boat so I could keep my necessities close by(keys, cards, meds, phone). I was already satisfied with the purchase by then and can confirm it is absolutely worth every penny of the arguably affordable price (idk but to me the price point it seems strangely low for lulu especially given its popularity).
But I think it’s worth shouting out: this bag kept my stuff salvaged EVEN AFTER I ended up diving into the water -shoes, clothes, and bag all still on my body- to get to and save my drowning toddler. My cell phone didn’t even seem to be wet, and my medication certainly wasn’t (this isn’t to say it’s waterproof or anything).
I am still realizing how lucky I was that I wasn’t wearing something heavier or more complicated than this or the story might have been a very different one to tell.
Happy Mother’s Day and buy yourself the damn bag, it might save a life.

How to salvage cinder block wall? With removal?
The left side of the photo is the section we need to know down to widen the gate.
Our home was built with a RV drive in spot on the side of the house. But the made the gate too smaller to fit any trailer or RV into it. You can even see where the bolts went into the wall before before being cut and shortened.
We’d like the re open the wall and move our boat/RV into the spot. This was part of the reason we purchased the home in the first place.
But we want to save the blocks as much as possible with out completely demolishing them. Salvage a block or 2 if we ever need to replace one in the future for the fence later.

Looking at buying this salvage boat.
Looking at buying this islander 28 that’s located on the Great Lakes. It has been sitting on the hard for 4 or 5 years abandoned by owner. It has a main sail and a jib for the furler and a spineker. Also has an almost new beta 12 HP diseal inboard that has been run recently. But the inside is trashed, the water tank is gonna need a DEEP clean. There are atleast 2 thru holes that either need new equipment or to be patched and there’s some minor hull damage that will have to be fiberglass over. Asking price is $3000 and it included storage fees for the next 4 months. Bad idea?

  • The salvage was communicated in real-time to broadcasting companies that shot from their helicopters.
  • A while later, he proposed to embrace him.
  • Caramelo is recuperating at a veterinary medical clinic subsidiary with a college.
A Brazilian pony nicknamed Caramelo by web-based entertainment clients collected public consideration after a TV news helicopter recorded him abandoned on a roof in southern Brazil, where huge floods have killed more than 100 individuals.
Around 24 hours after he was first spotted and with individuals clamoring for his salvage, a group in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state on Thursday effectively eliminated Caramelo, giving a portion of desire to an overwhelmed locale.

Rescue of A Brazilian Horse Caramelo

The earthy-colored horse had been adjusting on two thin segments of tricky asbestos for a long time in Canoas, a city in the Porto Alegre metropolitan region that is perhaps one of the hardest-hit regions in the state, a lot of which has been separated by floodwaters.
Firemen and veterinarians moved onto the for the most part lowered rooftop, quieted and immobilized the pony, and afterward laid him on an inflatable pontoon — each of the 770 pounds of him.
Virtual entertainment force to be reckoned with Felipe Neto conveyed updates to his very nearly 17 million devotees on X as the salvage was in progress.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s significant other, Janja, posted a video of herself imparting the uplifting news to the Brazilian chief, murmuring into his ear at an authority occasion. He grinned, offered a go-ahead, and embraced her to him. Rio Grande do Sul’s Gov. Eduardo Leite additionally commended the salvage, posting on X: “All lives matter, we stand firm!”
Mariângela Allgaier, a veterinarian and teacher at the organization, said Thursday evening via web-based entertainment that he showed up exceptionally dried out.
He is around 7 years of age and, in light of his qualities, was reasonably utilized as a draft creature for a truck, Bruno Schmitz, one of the veterinarians who aided salvage and assess Caramelo, later told broadcasting company GloboNews. He’s additionally exceptionally delicate, Schmitz added, which extraordinarily assisted with the organization of tranquilizers.
Carla Sassi, executive of Graduate, a Brazilian not-for-profit that salvages creatures after fiascos, said she is meeting with state government authorities in Canoas to examine crisis measures to save pets.

2024.05.08 20:50 No_Ethical_Socks Remember, Session Zero only works if you actually communicate to each other like an adult.

Yeah, yeah, this should be obvious, but right now I'm watching five months of investment in a campaign implode because people at the table agreed to a session zero, sat down, and then failed to fully voice their expectations and boundaries for the game. I reserve the right to vent a bit.
When our group sat down for our preliminary session of Monster of the Week, I walked away feeling like I'd hosted the ideal setup. MotW is a game where character creation is also worldbuilding, so players are effectively building out the campaign from first principles at the same time they're building out their characters. It's the ideal time to nip any concerns about content in the bud. I printed off a common safety checklist, we went around the table doing our Lines & Veils, and we had an open discussion about what we wanted the campaign to be about; on paper, we did everything you're supposed to do.
One of the playbooks in MotW is "The Monstrous," a character born of the campaign's main chosen monster-faction but currently rebelling against their kind. One player quickly settled on playing a vampire-spawn hunting her own kind, and took the ability to mentally dominate humans as a starting ability. She wanted to play a character who struggled a bit with her own toxic impulses and the ease with which she could manipulate other people, because she was interested in playing the kind of character at serious risk of eventually becoming a Keeper-controlled threat, as is one of the fates that can befall The Monstrous as a playbook. As a full group, we discussed our level of comfort with these themes, revisiting our Lines and Veils to discuss how far we were willing to let this go in-game. We set our hard lines, we all agreed emotional abuse was not a line or veil; to reiterate, we did everything you're supposed to do.
Except, I guess we didn't. Five months later, eighteen sessions deep, midway through an adventure partially concerned with either freeing the Monstrous character from her curse or losing her to bestial hunger, another player has said OOC they don't want the character on their team anymore. She's crossed too many lines, used too many people; in their opinion, it's deeply uncomfortable that we're discussing redemption for this kind of character at all.
And I'll admit that I'd noticed the friction once or twice before now. Long, quiet streaks after scenes where the Monstrous used her powers to flippantly command civilians, and especially after scenes where she'd use this power on another player who played her partner to shut down arguments (with both players' full consent in playing out a toxic relationship). It's why I'd reached out to this player, repeatedly, checking in to make sure everything happening in the game was okay with them. I was told yes. Now I'm being told no, it's been upsetting them more and more for months, and they aren't having fun playing as a character who would associate with this other PC. In fact, the whole concept has been upsetting them from the start.
Why wasn't this brought up during session zero, when everyone was invited to set their boundaries for the game? "Because everyone else seemed so excited about the idea," so they didn't want to rock the boat.
And I guess... I don't know. I don't know what I could have done differently. I sat everyone down, asked them to discuss what they were comfortable with playing, invited them to reach out in private for anything they felt uncomfortable disclosing in front of the group, and blatantly had that ignored until it festered into a problem beyond salvaging. Everyone is angry at each other now, and losing either player is going to take at least one other player with them, killing the whole game dead in the water.
I get that there's a lot of social awkwardness in this hobby, but what's even the point of building such a culture around safety tools if players are going to be too conflict-averse to use them? We had every chance to solve this five months ago, on the ground floor, before we'd invested all this time into a story at least one player quietly resented the whole time. Just, fuck, man.

2024.05.08 16:34 Kooky-Recognition28 Need Insurance Carriers That Cover BIG Boats in FL? Over 65 ft, and over 30 years old?

Hello! I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction, as I have struck out at every attempt on my own. My family member owns a 1985 Posillipo Technema, 68', and it is in the water at a marina near St. Augustine, FL, and we are located in NY. This boat has not been used in over 10 years and has just been sitting there, and cosmetically, it's in rough shape inside and outside. We are in the process of transferring ownership to a non-profit in FL, but that is taking longer than anticipated and now we are in hurricane season.
We had a policy until November 2023 through Brown & Brown Marine. We deliberately let it lapse at the time because the time and effort and cost of getting a marine survey and paying another annual premium for an unused boat just seemed to unreasonable to do from afar, plus we thought we would be transferring ownership soon enough anyway. The marina let us stay, uninsured, in a protected corner of the marina with just a BoatUS gold membership towing policy. Now that hurricane season is upon us and the boat still has not come under the new ownership, I am scrambling to get some sort of liability insurance to placate the marina so the boat can stay for the time being.
I am running into problems due to the size of the boat, before we even get to the age and condition and the fact that most insurances want to see a captain's license and the captain has retired and his license is expired. I have tried progressive, geico, state farm, and all said the boat was too big. I have tried to add it under my family member's umbrella policy on their homeowners insurance, and A) they already have a smaller boat on the insurance, and B) their homeowners insurance provider pairs with geico and we have the same issue with size.
The other difficulty is that the marina where the boat is now does not have a crane big enough to haul the boat out in order to take it out of the water - either permanently or for a full haul-out marine inspection for insurance purposes. And again, we'd have a logistics issue of getting the boat to a different marina with a big crane since the captain is retired, and we are in NY. So, ideally, I'd like to find something where the boat does not have to be hauled out.
The Marina sent me a letter that stated that due to previous direct hits from storms in years past, they wanted all boat owners to supply "current declaration page that specifies your
limits to include environmental clean-up, spill/salvage, towing and liability up to $300,000." So, along with the BoatUS membership, am I correct that I just need something that covers up to $300K in liability if it damages someone else's property? What reasonable steps can I take to get that?
Thank you. I am at my wits end!

2024.05.06 22:24 ThrowRA-cocaine-bear My (35F) fiancé (39M) has a coke problem and it's tearing us apart. What do I do?

Not really sure if I'm here for advice or to vent, but I need to get this out and I have no idea what to do. So maybe some advice would be welcome after all.
I (35F) have been with my fiancé (39M) for 5 years. We were due to get married last year, but had not set a specific date so when his mother passed away 8 months ago, we postponed everything.
We have our ups and downs, like most couples, but the fights in the past year or so have been particularly rollercoaster. We both like to go out, an we occasionally use recreational drugs together. I've noticed that we've been doing that less and less together, but I had my suspicions about him using cocaine alone. I caught him a few times, he said he was dealing with grief from losing a parent, and the problem used to be worse but he's working on it. I've noticed that he's a lot more irritable and moody. We might go weeks of everything being fine and lovely, and then out of the blue he'll just unload on me about something - which is usually several small things rolled into one. In the days following these fights, and during conversations with friends, I'll realise that his reaction is out of proportion with the actual triggering event - but its hard to tell someone who is big mad that they're overreacting about something.
Unfortunately, I've been affected by last year's industrial strike in the film industry so while I have managed to pick up a little work here and there, I'm nowhere near as busy as I used to be or would like to be. It has affected my mental health, and my self esteem. Thankfully I know so many others are in a similar boat, so it feels less lonely, but I do feel so lonely. I've been putting my energies into other activities to stop myself rotting at home all day - although truthfully sometimes I do lose multiple days to a depressive episode. So recently, we've been discussing plans to get married - simple day with city hall and drinks with friends somewhere. I had done some research about various things and was looking forward to a fun day date this past weekend and showing him what I've put together. He works a pretty grueling job with long hours, so weekends are pretty sacred and for the next few months, the only quality time we'll have together.
I managed to pick up a full week of work last week, and because the days were significantly longer than first described, I had left a few unfinished projects around the house. He picked a fight about it in the middle of the week via text message - something we both agreed we were no longer going to do - and we didn't get to have an in person conversation about it until 3 days later. Suffice to say, ruined the weekend, huge blow out. While his views are perfectly valid and I admit wrongdoing, his reaction is again feels so out of proportion. It feels like he is dumping his stress from work out on me. I communicated that when we finally got to talk. He called me lazy, that its my own fault I'm not working and that I keep starting things and leaving them unfinished around the house, and if I don't get my shit together I can "pack your shit and go."
We had tickets for a show that night. Went along anyway purely because they were expensive, but neither of us were in the mood and traveled there and back in silence. While we were at the bar, he slipped off to the bathroom and when he came back I could have sworn I smelled a whiff of coke on the air - very distinctive smell. And then he spent the next 20 minutes sniffling and touching his nose. Pretty clear. I've had multiple friends of his come to me with concern about him in the last few months, some of his co-workers too. We're all worried about him, and anytime I try to talk to him about it he pushes me further away. Obviously I always have the option to leave. I know that. And of course I've considered it strongly. However, It would literally mean moving countries and having to start a new life somewhere else. Financially, I'm just not in a position to do that right now.
He is a good man underneath this nastiness. I love him, and if there is something to be salvaged here I will stick it out and try to help him. He has a problem and its affecting all of his close relationships. I know only he can be the one to pull himself out, but it's directly affecting my quality of life and I don't know what to do. If anyone has been through something similar, I'd love to hear from you. What do I do here? How can we proceed with this relationship? Do I walk away?
TLDR: Fiancé of 5 years is abusing cocaine to deal with the grief of losing his mother. He's still hiding it really well, but the signs are obvious. It's destroying our relationship as well as his close friendships. Trying to talk to him about it ends up with him pulling further away.
