2024.05.16 14:42 w00dw0rk3r At a local dealer: 2011 Corolla S, 5 speed, 58k miles

Good morning folks. My local Toyota dealer in Greenwich Connecticut has a 2011 Toyota Corolla S, which has a five speed and has only 58k miles on it. Sharing in case anyone is looking for a clean model.
It’s a dark gray exterior with gray cloth interior. Car is in mint condition.
Asking price is $12k
I’m not selling it, it’s not my car. Sharing this great find with the community in case anyone wants a basically brand new car for $12k :)
It’s a manual so I’d negotiate down with them on that price too :)

2024.05.16 14:21 Yessie555 Toyota Sienna making some worrying sounds

I took my Toyota Sienna 2000 to a mechanic recently and when I got it back, it's had some issues.
What the mechanic did: replaced the water pump, timing belt, and repaired a bad ball joint on the front right wheel
Symptoms now that I have it back:
The serpentine belt is silent upon startup but about 3 to 5 minutes into driving, I can hear it start making whiff-whiff-whiff noises. I know it's the serpentine belt because I opened the hood while it was still running and the sound was coming directly from it. Sometimes it goes away, other times it does not and I have to listen to it the entire drive.
There was one point where slowing down or pressing the brakes resulted in a few pretty concerning sounding squeals coming from the right side. But these happened if I was driving for about 30 mins. I'm unsure if this was something under the hood or coming from the wheel.
If I idle at an intersection and the light turns green, I press the accelerator (obviously). When this happens, I catch a brief whiff of burning rubber. Also, depending on how far and how fast I've run the car, it has a kind of hard time accelerating. But I'm not sure how much of that is in my head.
I took the car to the mechanic a second time to get these issues looked at and they said they couldn't recreate the problems I mentioned. But they did say I could drop by with it again if it continues making scary sounds.
Any idea what might be the source(s)?

2024.05.16 13:34 Candid-Reward9677 In Depth EV9 1500 mile Review

Hello everyone,
I thought I would share my thoughts on my Iceberg Green EV9 land, with tow package. Some notes on my settings and car usage: I have all software updates installed, use the car in normal drive mode, and most frequently am using i-pedal regen. I have everything enabled in the car except for digital key and the car charger cable lock. I use a NFC card for unlock, lock, and start. I have throttled at-home AC charging so that my charger maxes out at 30A (or about 7 kw):
What works well/I like:
  1. Efficiency. I am getting 3.0 kWh, at least, and that was in colder winter spring conditions here in the Boston area. The car does demand more energy on the highway (no surprise) but it really sips energy around town. The city driving can be amazingly efficient (3.3 or higher kWh). I do a combo of highway and city driveway.
  2. The heat pump air conditioning system. Heating and cooling is fast, very efficient, and clearly helps to extend range in the winter. I can see high spikes (up to 15kw when I turn on the system), but once the car is to temp, is stay level at 1-2 kw, or less. Very impressive.
  3. Quietness of ride. Compared to my wife's relatively new sienna, this ride is very quiet. Its really nice rot finally have a car that is quiet enough for easy hands free telephone conversation and lower music volume.
  4. The acceleration of the car. Holy mackerel. I have never had an EV before so driving a car this large and heavy that can go 0-60 in 5 seconds is a revelation. And yes, I do floor it very occasionaly and am still getting great efficiency. If you drive it hard all the time, and you will burn thru the energy in battery a lot faster.
  5. Lane centering, self steering, and cruise control (the prob have acronyms but I dont know what they are). Can this car completely self drive? Defeintily not. But it's really nice to take the hands off the wheel for short periods of time. The radar cruise control works really well and will brake well under most circumstances.
  6. The room for 2nd and 3rd row passengers. There is tons of room in the second row, and the 3rd is excellent comparatively to other offerings. If you haul kids, they will be very happy.
  7. The regen settings and the E-GMP platform as a whole. The regen options are amazing. One reason why I get the efficiency I do is I largely am in i-pedal, auto, and low regeneration settings, depending on where I am driving. They clearly put a a lot of thought into how all components of the system should operate together. So far AC charging at home and DC fast charging using EA stations has worked very well. I am very impressed by this platform, although admittedly I dont have a basis for comparison.
  8. The option to use the car is a whole home backup during power outages using the upcoming bi directional chargers. Said chargers haven't been released yet, but using 100kw battery in the car to power certain circuits in a home is a much more elegant idea than dropping 15-25k on a stand alone 10-20kw system. And I bet here in MA I will eventually get paid for allowing the utility to take power from the battery during times of high demand. Love that idea.
  9. The infotainment system. I am coming form a ICE car. The infotainment has so many screens and useful settings. Navigation could be improved, but I am still enjoying the system. The EV menu especially is great, and really helps me to understand really time energy consumption and regeneration. My guess is Tesla does all of this much better, but still, I really like most if it, except for the maps "app" which sucks. I use CarPlay, google maps, and apple maps instead.
  10. the stereo system. Yes it's a little lacking in the base department, but between the lower road noise and decent speakers, I enjoy it, especially the surround mode feature.
  11. The small things. Wireless apple CarPlay, auto high beams, auto windshield wipers, heated/ventilated seats, LED (or LCD?) rearview mirror, passenger talk, and second row sun shades which cover almost the entire window - all work much better than expected. I use all and really appreciate the functionality and ease of use of all of these features.
  12. OTA updates and kia connect in general. Again its sounds like Tesla does all of this better, but I have had 5 updates on the car since purchase. Kia is clearly trying to improve the functionality and reliability of the car via these OTA updates. I also appreciate the features in kia connect, even though they are not mind blowing. I have never had a car that I could pre-air condition before. Its a nice change.
What I Dont like:
  1. As some others on this sub have mentioned the car exhibits is some lateral movement especially at higher speeds when the car goes over bumps. To me, the movement is minor and it doesnt bother me. But when it happens, I am reminded that I am not really driving a sports car. It's a fast SUV.
  2. Not being able to keep the car in I-pedal. Others have mentioned this too. This might be regulator specified though.
  3. Some of the safety features. There are some many it's mind blowing. But I keep my Yakima Exo hitch system on at all times (collapsed) which means I have to disable one feature every time I drive (I must hold down the center console "P" button for three seconds or else the car performs emergency breaking as it thinks its going to hit the EXO).
  4. Not beings able to have all door handles unlock any/everytime a request is sent to the car to unlock a door. I know this is a safety feature, but its annoying that I cant turn it off.
  5. Feeling like enabling my phone as a digital key might significantly reduce battery life. I would like to use this feature, but am more interested in have a reliable car that can fall asleep and give its 12V a break.
Needless to say, I love the car. So long as it continues to be dependable, I will continue to love it.
Hope this is helpful if you are on the fence. I have learned a lot from the sub reddit, and wanted to give back.

The Pervasive Influence of Social Media on Public Opinion and Individual Behavior

In an age dominated by digital landscapes, social media has emerged as a fundamental force shaping public opinion and individual behavior. This synthesis essay explores the multifaceted impacts of social media platforms, drawing on scholarly articles to analyze their roles in political mobilization, consumer marketing, and interpersonal relationships. The thesis posits that social media significantly alters public discourse and personal interactions, reshaping societal norms and behaviors in profound ways.

Political Influence

Social media has revolutionized political engagement, transforming it into a more dynamic and accessible sphere. According to a study by Bond et al. (2012), Facebook's social messaging significantly increased voter turnout during the 2010 U.S. elections. This phenomenon is largely due to the ability of social platforms to facilitate rapid information dissemination, enabling political movements to mobilize supporters with unprecedented speed and scale. Targeted advertisements and viral campaigning on platforms like Twitter and Facebook not only reach more voters but also allow for more tailored political messaging, enhancing the ability to sway public opinion towards specific ideologies or candidates.

Marketing and Consumer Behavior

Beyond politics, social media has a profound impact on consumer behavior and marketing strategies. As per the research by Chaffey (2019), social media influences up to 71% of consumer buying decisions, particularly among younger demographics. This influence stems from the powerful combination of targeted advertising and user-generated content, creating a persuasive environment of social proof. Consumers are increasingly reliant on reviews and social endorsements, which platforms like Instagram and Pinterest readily provide. This shift not only affects individual purchasing behaviors but also dictates market trends and brand strategies, making social media a crucial element in modern marketing ecosystems.

Interpersonal Relationships

The impact of social media extends into the realm of interpersonal relationships. Studies by Turkle (2011) suggest that while social media facilitates more frequent communication, it also leads to more superficial interactions. The constant connectivity offered by social media platforms like Snapchat and WhatsApp reshapes how relationships are formed and maintained, often prioritizing breadth over depth. This shift can lead to a decrease in face-to-face interactions and potentially weaken the emotional bond between individuals, altering the fabric of social connectivity.

Synthesis Section

The political, commercial, and social interactions mediated by social media have collectively engineered a new societal norm, where public opinion and individual behavior are increasingly influenced by online interactions. The synthesis of these aspects reveals that while social media offers numerous benefits, such as increased engagement and consumer insights, it also poses challenges like echo chambers in politics and decreased interpersonal communication quality. Understanding these influences is crucial for mitigating potential negatives while harnessing the positive aspects of social media.

Conclusion

This essay has examined the extensive influence of social media on public opinion and individual behavior, highlighting its role in reshaping political engagement, marketing strategies, and interpersonal relationships. Social media platforms, by virtue of their design and widespread use, serve not only as tools for information dissemination but also as shapers of contemporary culture and behavior. As we navigate this digital age, it becomes imperative to foster awareness and develop strategies that enhance the benefits of social media while addressing its challenges. Further research and proactive digital literacy efforts are essential to ensure that social media serves to enhance rather than detract from societal progress.

2024.05.16 10:30 DAREALPGF I'd really appreciate some help trying to find a reliable and affordable Hatchback for daily commutes, and city driving, preferably with Android Auto! :)

Hi!
I'm looking for a used car to share with a family member and I would highly appreciate any kind of suggestions or general help in trying to find options for a car fitting our needs! Thank you so much in advance! 💕
The budget isn't all that great, but i got pleasantly surprised when i found the Toyota Auris seemingly checking all the boxes and being available for even less than 15k€ used. After looking at it for a while i found out Toyota was a decade late in adding carplay so even the most modern Auris models don't support AA or Apple Carplay.
I was looking at Toyota cars specifically since they're so reliable buying a used car from them isn't all that risky, and because they're widely available around where i live (Finland).
I would, however, like the car to have AA if we're spending money on a recent-ish model, as otherwise we might as well just get another ~2012 trash heap to save money as from what i've seen Toyota's own entertainment & navigation systems seem pretty worthless. I mainly use Google Maps for navigation, and if the car doesn't have that as an option, i see no point in paying for a fancy touch screen navigation system that i'm never going to use. In that case, Bluetooth audio will be enough, and i'll just use my phone for navigation.
The requirements for the car are as follows:
  1. RELIABLE BRAND & MODEL
This is the most important part. If we're buying a used car, we need to be as sure as possible that it's not gonna break down on us for a long, long time, and that we won't need to pay twice the car's price in repairs.
  1. General Specs
We are looking for a compact 4-5 seater vehicle for daily- and city driving as well as moderately long drives with a trunk space that can be expanded onto the passenger seats when necessary. It should be compact enough for city driving and parking, but still be able to carry cargo when necessary.
All cars either of us have driven have been manual, but we're willing to give automatic transmission a shot as well! FWD or AWD preferred.
  1. Android auto or Bluetooth
As i explained earlier, I see no real point in paying for a touch screen monitor smacked on the console, if it adds nothing to the comfort or practicality of the vehicle. If the car isn't compatible with AA or google maps in some way, all that matters is that it's easy to listen to music wirelessly.
  1. Decent audio system
Speaking of listening to music, it would be really nice to be able to enjoy the music as well! Neither of us are audiophiles or anything, but it would be nice if the speakers were good enough to make listening to music while driving fun! :)
  1. Fuel
Gasoline or diesel works perfectly, It seems most options fit our needs nowadays are hybrids, which sound great otherwise, but neither of us have any experience with them. We've only heard horror stories about hybrids having reliability issues or being impossible to do routine maintenance to at home (like switching tires), and that they are more likely to fail inspection? I have no idea how true this is but if these are baseless claims, a Hybrid sounds like a great option as well.
Fuel efficiency is a huge plus, though "good" is enough. It doesn't have to be the main focus or anything exceptional. However, the more efficient the car is, the better of course!
  1. Price
No more than 20k EUR (Used), or ~250€/ month. Leasing is also an option but i couldn't find any valid prices around here. Besides, i'm mainly just looking for vehicle suggestions, i can look at deals or sales myself as long as it's roughly in the same price category.
The main reason we want to make sure the car is solid and reliable is so we don't have to pay ourselves sick for it's maintenance. If we're considering leasing, it will be so we can make the dealership pay for any possible wear & tear. Again, we're looking for a used car that will last us a while. ^^
Again, thank you so much for anyone willing to help and take a look at this, all help is highly appreciated! 💕

Hi everyone,
I'm using webview_flutter to authorization the TikTok page with OAuth v2 in my Flutter app. While it works smoothly on iOS, I'm encountering problems with the webview Chrome browser on Android. It seems that after a successful authentication with Google, it doesn't redirect to the URL that makes this condition true: request.url.contains('$redirectUri?code=')
final String url = 'https://www.tiktok.com/v2/auth/authorize/?client_key=$clientKey&redirect_uri=$redirectUri&scope=$scope&response_type=code'; @override void initState() { String uniqueState = const Uuid().v4(); controller = WebViewController() ..setJavaScriptMode(JavaScriptMode.unrestricted) ..setBackgroundColor(const Color(0x00000000)) /// set user Agent to prevent Error 403: disallowed_useragent ..setUserAgent('AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/124.0.0.0 Safari/537.36') ..setNavigationDelegate( NavigationDelegate( onProgress: (int progress) {}, onPageStarted: (String url) {}, onPageFinished: (String url) {}, onWebResourceError: (WebResourceError error) {}, onNavigationRequest: (NavigationRequest request) async { if (request.url.contains(ResponseRedirect.cancelled.name)) { /// canceled handle } else { if (request.url.contains('$redirectUri?code=')) { /// authorization success } } return NavigationDecision.navigate; }, ), ) ..loadRequest(Uri.parse('$url&state=$uniqueState'));

2024.05.16 06:01 guinelle What to buy suv possibly?

The wife and I have sold our extra cars (had 4 at one point) and now down to just 2. I have a truck. 2011 gmc sierra 1500 and she has an 07 corolla. Both are pretty reliable but we are looking to purchase a newer car (mostly for her and I’d use the corolla for a beater work car)
Budget around 12-15k but the lower the better lol. We were thinking an SUV with AWD would be nice for winters but I keep changing my mind. I’m mostly looking for something simple, easy to work on myself but also have some features our base models don’t have now.
We’re looking at Subaru crosstrek or maybe an outback but I know nothing about them. They can be had with the features we want for much less then a comparable Toyota. I work on trucks/heavy equipment for a living and either owned pickups or Toyota cars. We are open to another car a Corolla or a Camry as awd is not really necessary for us. More important things we (I mean she) wants is heated seats, sunroof, backup camera, Bluetooth, etc. I only really care about having to work on it. Are Subaru a bad option or I thought most of the CVT Problems have been fixed? A 4th gen rav4 can kinda be in the budget but higher miles. Most of vehicles would be 2013 or newer she’s looking at not really my cup of tea I like older with less electronics and crap to go wrong.

2024.05.16 05:49 cat_lady_1023 I feel like I'm losing my mind after 3 days of full-time searching online... need advice for a reliable, compact to midsize suv or crossover. My pos 2006 Toyota Sienna is needing yet another massively expensive repair and I just can't put more into this lemon! Please help!

I started out hoping to get something for between $18,000 to $25,000, but it seems that everything I've looked has one red flag or another. If it's not the cvt transmission, it will be crappy to drive or very noisy or endless other issues. I'm exhausted and overwhelmed. I'm now considering a higher budget of up to $35,000. I need to find something asap because my pos 2006 Toyota Sienna needs yet another massively expensive repair. I have unfortunately had two lemon Siennas: a 2004 that was bought new and a 2006 that was bought used. I'd tell you my sad stories about those two pos vans but I'm too wiped out mentally at the moment. I am grateful to and thank anyone who responds in advance!

2024.05.16 04:33 arinabi need a car for the city, should I buy new or used?

Hi guys. Apologies if the question "is the used car market still bad" is asked a lot. I'm not knowledgeable about cars and I view them as more of an appliance to get me from point A to point B.
I'm having a really hard time finding a car I want. I'm going to move back to Chicago proper soon and the car will be street-parked. With my previous car, it got scratched to hell. I initially was looking for a used car, but so many options seem overpriced. I found a 2011 Toyota Corolla with 50k miles for $13,900. I read in a reddit thread that this would have gone for maybe $8k just a couple years back !! I've found other listings from used dealerships that seemed good, but reviews would often indicate major issues with the store, such as wanting you to do a credit check before test driving. I even went to go see a 2017 VW Jetta, 96k miles, $10,500, but when I got to the dealer, they brought out an entirely different Jetta and my dad immediately spotted a significant issue when he opened the hood! Not only has finding a decent used car been a pain, I'm getting the sense that they're generally overpriced at the moment as well.
My parents are the kind of people who only buy new cars because they want to avoid problems with used, so they've been telling me to just buy a new one. I can afford a new car, cash even, but I don't want to drop that kinda money knowing people are going to fuck it up the first month I'm in the city. I was thinking of buying a new Mitsubishi Mirage as a last resort, spend the extra money to have something new and guaranteed to not have a history. They get a horrible rap for being slow, but they save money on gas and are generally reliable. However, I feel even these are overpriced these days as the cheapest I can find one in my area is $19,500. I heard these used to go for $10-13k, ugh.
would anyone have any advice? My budget and preferences are below:
thanks in advance!

2024.05.16 03:04 Combatarms_nx Looking for my first car, absolutely lost

As the title states, unfortunate circumstances have resulted in me needing to get my very first car as soon as possible. I have absolutely 0 clue on how to tackle this. I have tried to check Capital One's Auto Navigator but was declined.
Currently, I am ubering to work which is inefficient so I am looking to get a car as soon as possible. I have no specifics other than reliability which I heard Toyota and Honda are known for.
I have recently paid off all my debt and credit score is slowly climbing back up. (FICO: 660+, Vantage: 730+).
Me and my partner are in the same boat, she will begin working after the orientation process at a hospital, so we will be splitting the monthly payment on a car.

Savings:
I am currently a college student, but do not have student loans yet (I will be applying for it for Fall 2024).
I don't mind a beatup car if that is the optimal suggestion, I was just considering financing a used prius as I was only thing about MPG.
I appreciate any advice as I am clueless.

2024.05.16 02:49 munecam Stages of grief

I feel that I can express myself honestly here since we are all fans. I preface this to say I love Amy with all my heart. At one point I considered myself to be her biggest fan. She taught me how to sing, how to be my own person fearlessly among many other things. Whenever I travelled to different countries the first thing I would do was look up videos of her since certain media are banned/only available in certain countries. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every picture, watched every video clip, heard every song…
I say this with the utmost love and respect for her and her legacy. Since 2011, I found myself navigating the different stages of grief. I struggled with addiction which seemed to get worse after her passing. My favorite thing to do was drink and get high alone while playing her music. It made me feel less alone and I felt connected to her.
I hit rock bottom and checked myself into rehab. After a few relapses I’m happy to say I’ve been sober for almost four years now. I dreaded the thought of getting sober because I thought life would be boring and pointless. I thought I’d lose my creativity, confidence and everything I thought I gained from using. Now that I’m sober, my life has turned around in so many incredible ways. The journey hasn’t been easy but I am better person because of the work I’ve put in.
Since getting sober, I’ve noticed my anger that was initially toward Mitch, Blake, the industry as a whole has shifted towards Amy. I’m angry that she couldn’t get sober. She deserved to be here and experience her talent in sobriety. I wish she could have looked her demons in the eyes and shown them that she’s no imposter. I mourn the Amy that could have been if she gave herself the chance. The music she could have made, the message of hope, transformation and renewal that she could have shared with the world.
I’m pissed at her because she couldn’t or didn’t love herself enough. She was worth more than what she allowed and I feel like deep down she knew that. As I’ve overcome traumas and taken more accountability for what I’ve been through, I’m gutted at who we truly lost because I don’t think she ever had a chance. Too much talent, money, fame and enablers. I doubt anyone in her position would have survived. I tell myself this, I understand her downfall and yet I’m still angry. Because life is so beautiful when you love yourself. And more than anyone in this earth, Amy deserved to be loved, not just by us but by herself.
We can only point the finger at others so much but the truth is she made her own choices. Mitch didn’t put the bottle to her mouth the final time. For years I believed that she wasn’t actually dead but that the powers that be eliminated her.. It was the only way I could cope with such a tragic loss. For me, sobriety has brought about acceptance but yet a new level of grief, anger, disappointment and yearning.
God damnit, Amy what the fuck!! If I could see her again, I’d slap her and then give her a big hug and never let go. I know how it feels to be alone, an addict and a sensitive one at that. She would have surprised herself, I know it. She deserved to experience how beautiful life could be even if she never sang again or released another record. I wish it was me and not her. But I keep going in her honor and I can smile today knowing that she’s finally at peace if nothing else.

2015 Sienna A/C ON Blinking
When it rains (Florida), my A/C ON light keeps flashing. If I turn off the HVAC system and turn it back on or if I turn off the A/C and turn it back on then the blinking stops but it will resume in 2-3 minutes. It only happens during heavy rain. Does anyone know what is causing this issue and what can be done? Has anyone else experienced this?
See video.
I have 2015 Toyota Sienna SE

I have a buddy that has a 2001 Toyota Sienna with the 3.0L V6. Recently it has developed a misfire, and shows codes for random multiple misfires and no communication to injectors 1-6. I’ve got a couple theories, but what do you think it could be?

2024.05.16 01:15 Organic-Huan-15 Is it weird that I want to buy a 20 year old Toyota minivan just to live in and leave it in the driveway and never drive it?

No insurance since it will basically be a prop and I will not put it out on the road. 2004 Toyota Sienna, saw one on Craigslist in my area for 2k and another for $800. And yeah Ik gross trashy, but as long as I’m happy

- Ancient Meets Modern: Rome is a city where the old and the new exist side by side. As a vampire, you’ll navigate through centuries-old conspiracies, modern-day politics, and the eternal struggle for power within the Camarilla, the Anarchs, and the Sabbat lurking in the shadows.
- A Living, Breathing World: Our game is always alive, with players from around the globe contributing to a constantly evolving narrative. Imagine over 15-20,000 RP posts a month, each adding another layer to our shared story.
- Rich Lore and Deep Politics: Delve into the intricate politics of vampire society, where ancient clans and modern factions vie for control of the Eternal City. Your character could play a key role in shaping the future of Rome, whether through cunning diplomacy, hidden schemes, romance or outright conflict.
- Engage on Your Terms: While our main stage is text-based PbP, offering the flexibility to contribute, we also host voice sessions to bring certain scenes to life. Whether you're about intense character development or thrilling plot twists, there's a place for you here.

Whether you’re a veteran of the night or new to the shadows, we welcome your stories, your characters, and your imagination. Together, we'll explore the depths of Vampire lore set against the rich tapestry of Rome, where every alleyway and ancient ruin could hold secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Feeling intrigued? We’d love for you to join us and leave your mark on this dark and storied city.
Here’s your invitation to step into the shadows: Join us in Rome. Let’s weave some incredible tales together under the moonlit Roman sky.
