2024.05.17 00:13 FishyDescent All Star Manager Has Red Flags

I'm coaching an all star team with a coach that has sent up some red flags. First, our league has two all star teams - an A team and a B team. My son didn't make all stars last year but made the B team this year. The A team has been an all star team together for 3-4 seasons now and breaking into that lineup is very hard. The problem is there was no volunteer manager for the B team and we were at risk of not running a B team this season. So I volunteered and so did this other guy. After a brief conversation with him I humbly decided to let him manage the team. A decision I am coming to regret. I started noticing several minor red flags after our first meeting and practice. I don't think he's got what it takes to coach this team though. I also don't think he's been a manager before. Maybe an assistant coach, maybe.
We've now had our first two practices and I was surprised that my manager's son even made the B team. He's easily our worst player and not a great athlete. So the other day he tells me that his son was chosen for the A team (no f#@%ing way). That he (the manager) chose to volunteer for the B team, otherwise 11 other kids wouldn't have the opportunity to play in all stars. I mean this guy was standing there ten toes on the ground lying to me. Big red flag!
So he shows me the lineup the other day and his son is batting 4th. Dude, what!? Big red flag. My son isn't our best batter on the team, but his son, might be near the bottom. I thought he had my son right about where I think he should be, 6th or 7th.
We get into a discussion about positions and he tells me his son is a beast at 3rd base. I mean not really. We have 5 other kids that I like for 3B over his kid, and I'm pretty sure one of them started at 3B last year on all stars. His son doesn't have a strong arm. Not a great fielder and isn't that particularly a good athlete.
We're two practices in, set to scrimmage the A team this week. This is getting worse and worse. I feel like I have an obligation to bring this up to the league. I talked with another one of the coaches and he's shocked as well. He'd rather confront the coach after a few scrimmages when his son isn't playing up to par. I feel bad that his son is in this situation. But he's not really all star caliber, honestly. I know for sure his son wasn't an A team player, and I don't know if his son would have been on the B team if he didn't volunteer to coach. Some days I wish I would have volunteered earlier and been apart of player selection. Maybe next year.
This year, I don't know how this is going to work out. I don't know if we're going to have a mutiny within the coaching staff, within the team, or with the parents. The league seems to be very interested in creating two competitive all star teams to send to pre states, so I don't know how interested they are going to be in this daddy ball coach in all starts or not. This is my first year being associated with an all star team.
Any advice, any discussion, is welcome.

The Farmer-Labor Presidential Primaries of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections
Seeking a third term to finish his construction of a new dawn for the republic once and for all, incumbent President Philip La Follette has rallied his supporters within the party to almost guarantee his renomination after four years of intraparty purges of his detractors following his narrow triumph over John L. Lewis in 1948. Yet, inspired by former Vice President Lena Morrow Lewis’s deathbed plea to “save our party’s democratic soul,” burgeoning efforts from within statewide opposition groups have sought to mount opposition from within the presidential nominating process as a means of reconquering state parties.
Presidential portrait of Philip F. La Follette.
Philip F. La Follette: The heir to one of the nation’s great political dynasties, Philip Fox La Follette would emerge from the Great War and Revolution as a war hero, a reputation that, with his last name, would carry the once outspokenly anti-war young man to the Governor’s office, Lindbergh’s Supreme Court, and finally the upper echelons of the Army, where his ability to avoid taking positions on controversial issues would win him the Farmer-Labor nomination for the presidency in 1944–and finally the White House itself. Alienating much of his constituency from the outset with his determination to prosecute the war effort to its fullest, La Follette would respond to the battlefield use of two atomic weapons by Japan with a series of nuclear strikes upon the Japanese mainland that would claim final victory for the United States at the cost of the lives of over two million Japanese civilians. Appointing General Douglas MacArthur, hardly a Farmer-Laborite, as Secretary of State, La Follette has pursued the rebuilding and rearmament of a ring of anti-communist nations in Asia while pledging to avoid any future war.
Declaring that, with the age of war having closed, the republic must “win the peace,” La Follette allied himself with much of Charles Lindbergh’s base of support, saluting alongside the fascists of Alabama as he presided over the sharpest GDP growth in American history and buoyed it with executive orders to nationalize the healthcare industry while engaging in the mass sterilization of Americans and constructing an interstate highway system and hydroelectric power grid without congressional approval. With an investigation into the disappearance of Smedley Butler yielding evidence of an assassination organized under former President Lindbergh and a litany of arrests of leading anti-La Follette figures stuning the nation, the opposition would unite in an unprecedented impeachment effort.
Now, months after having saved his presidency from the first impeachment in American history, 55 year old incumbent President Philip F. La Follette has sought a new mandate for his call to “win the peace” in a quest for a third term; further, the President has taken his first major post-impeachment use of executive power to reorganize the cabinet into umbrella departments of Peace, Production, and Prosperity. Pointing to the successful slaying of the dragon of inflation and the first space launches in human history, Phil has sought the passage of a constitutional amendment reducing the legislative power to that of a veto and expanding that of the presidency while instituting a nationwide referendum system. Although practically guaranteed renomination after his purging of opponents from national power within Farmer-Labor following his narrow 1948 triumph over John L. Lewis, La Follette’s re-envisioning of Farmer-Labor has nonetheless continued to fuel a dogged but disorganized opposition movement despite the winning over of former opponents such as Washington’s Scoop Jackson, who nearly mounted a bid against La Follette himself.
Conservative former President Alf Landon, socialist Representative Norman Thomas, and the widow of Franklin Roosevelt, Anna Eleanor, campaigning in New York.
Nationwide Opposition Candidates:
With efforts to discourage any opposition campaigns in full swing, only one major figure has stepped forth to win ballot access in most states continuing to hold primaries, although many states have seen independent organizing efforts in tandem with the shared ultimate goal of the demise of fascism.
Alf Landon: 65 year old former President Alf Landon has his cross to bear. Refusing to endorse against Charles Lindbergh after withdrawing from the party’s 1936 primaries, Landon’s inaction as his 1932 campaign manager Rush Holt put Lindbergh over the line would see the Lone Eagle’s flight path on a course to the White House, from where he would crush the remaining loyal Landonites in the midterm elections of 1938. Landon emerged triumphant in 1928 by pitching his moderation as a formula for long term Farmer-Labor dominance of government, only to see the party implode under his watch. Losing the popular vote only to win a contingent election via the machinations of Clarence Dill, Landon's presidency proved eventful, most notable, perhaps for its domestic inaction. While concentrating his focus upon the Molotov-Lundeen Pact establishing friendly diplomatic relations with the Soviet government in Russia, a policy Landon championed as the catalyst for the wide scale withdrawal of foreign forces from American soil, Landon would cut economic aid across the board and refuse to bail out banks & big business in the face of record unemployment rates following the worldwide depression brought on by the collapse of the Japanese economic bubble, while focusing on driving up interest rates to control inflation.
Pitted against a hostile Congress led by Clarence Dill, the man whose legislative acumen carried him to the White House and who now stands as La Follette’s loyal Secretary of Peace, Landon found much of his party arrayed against him in the face of a veto of the Thomas Bill nationalizing natural gas distribution & the telephone industry despite prior promises from Landon to support both proposals. With the complete breakdown of legislative-executive relations, Dill forced through the Recovery Act of 1931, the largest omnibus bill in American history, enacting vast economic reforms over the disgruntlement of Landon. Winning the primaries of 1932 in a landslide, only to lose at the convention in the face of the backroom dealings of Clarence Dill, Landon would fail in a 1936 comeback attempt that would inadvertently pave the way to fascism.
In partisan exile, Landon would unsuccessfully organize against President Lindbergh, only to watch his followers be resoundingly defeated in the midterm elections of 1938; finding himself at the upper echelons of power anew as an unofficial negotiator with the United Kingdom under President Luce, Landon would organize political comeback in 1945 by winning election to the United States Senate after the death of George Norris. Working from there on policy issues such as advocacy of the Parliament of Nations and support for presidential programs such as the Interstate Highway system, Landon and his remaining caucus of conservatives have been at the fore of anti-La Follette intraparty organizing from the campaign of John L. Lewis to the movement for impeachment. Throwing his hat into the ring once more, Landon has used his stature to argue that only his brand of moderation can resurrect the Farmer-Labor of old as a viable party independent of the control of the fascists brought to power by his own neglect.
Commodore Robert A. Heinlein photographed shortly before his role in the Attack on Pearl Harbor. Heinlein has mounted a presidential bid separate entirely from other opposition efforts.
Robert A. Heinlein: Launched to international fame as the senior naval officer during the American attack on Pearl Harbor, 45-year-old former Commodore Robert A. Heinlein has used the events of December 7th, 1941 as a springboard for a lucrative career as a science fiction author. Emphasizing scientific accuracy in novels with titles such as Red Planet and Rocket Ship Galileo, Heinlein would step from the military and literary arenas to the political at the urging of his publisher James Laughlin and associate Ezra Pound, the poet and former New York Governor who has attempted to revive the American social credit movement. In turn, with Laughlin, Pound, and office holders such as Senators Hans Wight and John Horne Blackmore and Representative Solon Earl Low in tow, Heinlein has capitalized on his war hero stature to campaign for the presidency entirely unrelated to those of every other candidate campaigning against La Follette and instead intended to revitalite the American social credit movement.
Falling curiously between the social credit wing of Farmer-Labor and radicals of the Liberty League, Heinlein has described himself as a libertarian while supporting a social credit monetary system balancing a nationalized monetary supply with a requirement of a 100% reserve on money lending as described in his seminal novel For Us, The Living; further, he has coupled his experience in the Navy with his science fiction work to argue that he is uniquely able to continue President La Follette’s attempts to reach for the stars through a space program and argued for a currency backed by the very goods owned by the government itself. A firm believer in the concept of a national draft and a militarist at heart, Heinlein has resurrected positions such as support for the repeal of the Jesus Amendment, the concomitant secularization of the United States government, and support for a constitutional amendment requiring a national referendum prior to any declaration of war resulting in the drafting of supporters.
A comic book promoting Sid McMath for office.
Regional Opposition Candidates:
Note: If voting for the regional opposition, please leave a comment indicating to whom you wish your support to be counted.
With opposition Farmer-Labor organizations persisting around the nation and fighting to recapture control of their state parties, anti-La Follette factions across the nation have rallied around regional candidates in states permitting competitive primaries in an attempt to rise the tide of the down ballot opposition. Thus, all of the following candidates are only on the ballots of one or several states.
John Haynes Holmes: 73 year old Unitarian minister John Haynes Holmes served as a leading advisor to William Jennings Bryan, guiding the post-revolutionary nation through the unsteady waters of foreign occupation as he used the White House pulpit to preach his gospel of pacifist socialism. Playing a key role in the pardons of former revolutionaries, Holmes would serve in Alf Landon’s inaugural diplomatic delegation to Bolshevik Russia before reluctantly supporting Charles Lindbergh for his opposition to war with Japan. Nonetheless, a consistent opponent of fascism from his days as a seminary student denouncing young Governor Milford W. Howard’s new order in Alabama, Holmes has been a consistent bulwark in the struggle against the party’s fascist wing, renouncing President La Follette once it became clear that he would not end the Third Pacific War and using the word impeachment as early as the atomic bombings of 1945, which Holmes has denounced as a violation of the Jesus Amendment. Running on restoring the party’s former core of Christian socialism, Holmes has been put forth across New England as the flag bearer of the opposition, with a fundraising team led by widow Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, a distant cousin of the former President.
Sid McMath: Hoisting the banner of opposition across the Deep South and Southwest is 40 year old Arkansas Senator Sid McMath. Primarying longtime incumbent Farmer-Laborite Garrett Whiteside in 1948 only to face off against the organization of Progressive strategist Osro Cobb, known as the “wizard of Arkansas” for his success in what was once the nation’s most Farmer-Laborite state, McMath would win an upset victory running on his record as a war hero and ties to Smedley Butler and Evans Fordyce Carlson. Horrified at revelations of the murder of Butler by the Lindbergh Administration, McMath would vote for the removal of Philip La Follette after a midnight visit from his former commanding officer in the Marine Corps David Shoup, transforming himself from an enigma to a pariah overnight as fascists across the nation have descended upon Arkansas to challenge him in 1954, with La Follette forces already organizing behind challenger Orval Faubus in a move that has placed McMath in an unexpected alliance with former rival Osro Cobb.
An interview with Governor Frank Zeidler.
Jimmy Hoffa: 39 year old labor leader Jimmy Hoffa inherited the mantle of leadership of the Congress of Industrial Organizations from longtime President John L. Lewis after the arrest of Lewis and his deputy Tony Boyle. A moderate with sympathies to both the party’s right and left seen as balancing with fellow CIO leader Walter Reuther’s socialism, Hoffa has put the interests of labor above all from his days leading the Teamsters Union. A fiery speaker who many credit with saving the CIO from collapse after the arrest of its leonine leader, Hoffa’s name is only on three ballots, but he has emerged as the choice of handfuls of CIO-affiliated delegates across the nation as a protest vote against the continued nationalization of the General Trades Union.
Jerry Voorhis: The Senate’s sole member from the Single Tax Party, California’s Jerry Voorhis has nonetheless served as the lightning rod around which disparate California anti-La Follette Farmer-Laborites have organized owing to the state ordinances permitting political crossfiling. Having described “the Kingdom of God” as being a world “all producing wealth is owned publicly” in his Claremont University thesis, Voorhis would oppose President Lindbergh from the beginning as a Farmer-Labor socialist before joining the Single Tax Party in 1946, reviving it in the state of California in an attempt to find a new vehicle for his politics. Seen as a contender for the presidency regardless of party affiliation, Voorhis’s draft movement among California oppositionists has been heralded as the first step of the left wing knight’s hypothetical return to a rebuilt Farmer-Labor Party. Among his surprising supporters has been former Lindbergh-La Follette stalwart Reverend Robert P. Shuler, who has praised Voorhis for crossing ideological and party lines to defend his right to free speech in moralistic attacks on Henry Luce’s romantic life.
Frank P. Zeidler: 40 year old Wisconsin Governor Frank P. Zeidler has stood as a socialist in the heart of La Follette country, successfully resisting primary challenges to maintain his grasp on the office amidst a tenuous alliance with Joseph McCarthy. Entering politics following the death of his rising star brother Carl, Frank has accepted the ballot line of the opposition in several Midwestern states following the death of former Senator Herbert S. Bigelow, once anticipated as a socialist challenger himself. A socialist to the core, Zeidler supporters point to his history of fiscal success and balanced budgets as evidence of his acumen in economic management and ability to control inflation as a possible future chief executive.

2024.05.17 00:11 durt_squirrel Ramblings of a Mad Explorer

Hi everyone!
I (31m) am still trying to figure it all out, I guess just like the rest of us, right? I went to a small east coast liberal arts college to be a writer. When I graduated in 2014, I had been through a variety of coursework and had felt that while I did want to write, I was focused more on "doing", then writing about it someday. I mostly focused on International Affairs and Anthropology spent some time abroad. I had difficulty getting a job after college and leaned into bouncing/security, then barbacking, then bartending, as a means to just get an income while I figured it out. I had a dream of working in intelligence. A decade passed and I had managed to build a successful reputation for myself both in bar management and brand work. During that decade, a lot of life happened. I had a deranged and tumultuous 7 year relationship with an abusive alcoholic bartender. I was offered a dream job after an arduous and competitive hiring process, only to have it rescinded for non-disclosed reasons days before my 30th birthday. Devastated by the job rejection after years of effort and work, I was feeling quite down. At this point I was bartending full time and just feeling completely lost. My long relationship ended in absolute pandemonium due to a total loss of my vehicle while she drove it inebriated. I evacuated myself from the relationship, as my safety was in question and I could no longer let myself be okay with what I was living. It was ugly and I lost most of my things and my pets.

I felt gutted and defeated. I hung my head in shame and retreated to the cavernous depths of the rickety dive bar I had been working at, not doing much other than working and sleeping. Most of my time was spent feeling sorry for myself in solitude or just wanting it all to end. I felt trapped, scared, and hopeless. I met another woman with whom I now have an amazing relationship. It felt as though she brought color back to my life and gave me the excitement and joy I deserved to feel; the stuff I needed to keep healing and push forward. I've been still learning how to love myself again and forgive myself for what I allowed to happen to me. The bar industry had been absolutely crushing; being surrounded by defeated lost souls, on both sides of the bar. It got to a point where I was just completely emotionally and physically drained during my time off that I had no ability to do anything other than rot. And the money hasn't been what it had been and I have been having a hard time staying afloat on my own.

A few months ago, at the strong encouragement of my girlfriend and family, and spending far too much time feeling like "John at the Bar" from the song "Piano Man," I left the bar industry for good. My father (also a former bartender), with whom I was more or less estranged from for several years due to longstanding family issues, offered to pay my rent if I left the bar ASAP and helped my brother launch his home remodeling business. I took the leap. I can't say they caught me; times are tough right now. The business is in it's startup phase and I am not in a position where I can take much income beyond minimum wage right now. Its quite brutal and I am questioning what the fuck I am even doing every day, but I push on. I am supplementing ends meet with some freelance work here and there doing some writing and working the bar at concert venues. I don't love my day to day, but I don't hate it as much as the bar. As much as certain things suck, my life is infinitely better. I feel confident that I will look back on these past few years and laugh.

So, here I am, still trying to figure it all out. I feel as though all of my interests are laid out in front of me: I love music. I am a bassist, an avid record collector, I spin Boogie/Funk/80's vinyl here and there at bars and parties for fun, and I constantly love exploring everything related to the world of music. I am constantly monitoring foreign conflicts and researching militant insurgencies; I love to keep up to date on everything open source within the intelligence world. In terms of jobs in this field, it may be sour grapes, but I am not sure if I could sleep at night if I worked in intel for my government. I love to make art; some of my other brothers and I collaborate on cartoons, screenplays, and sketches. I love designing a character and making an elaborate Halloween costume every year. I love to create wild, exciting, and vibrant worlds, taking mine and others imaginations into the real world. I love to explore the world, connect with other cultures, and SEE and EXPERIENCE all I can during my short time here. It feels almost as if there's a "perfect career for me" combining all of these interests just sitting on the tip of my tongue. Then there's part of me screaming "Just write on what you've done. Then go do more shit and write! Fuck publications, newspapers, and media corps. Just do your own thing and you'll figure it out!"

I write all of this, not necessarily asking for help finding a path (although, PLEASE any input is welcome), but just to share my experience to those who may be in the pits of confusion and hopelessness where I was very recently. Hopefully this can provide at least some solidarity and maybe a little bright flash of hope. I hope that those who are in similar places in their lives as me can read this and feel validated and more comfortable. Those of you who have made it out alive and thriving, hopefully this reminds you of your journey to where you are. And to all of those who failed, well...maybe this can help you feel willing to try it again. We only get this one shot at this, so why not give it our all?
I have no answers or solutions, just my own accounts of my raw experiences and the perspectives they have given me. I guess that's kind of the point of all of this though, right? We are all here to perceive and be perceived. We live in, witness, and are the spectacle! What an absurd, ghastly, and wonderful life we all live! Go live it and experience...you may be on the path you are searching for without even realizing it...

Good hunting and rock on everyone. I love you all.

2024.05.17 00:11 darkknuckles12 Some questions about what it means to be non binary, and your personal experiences (I am probably a bit ignorant)

I have some questions about what it means to be non binary. I understand its a very personal subject so feel free to ignore it, if you dont want to. Since i am asking some personal questions it seems only fair to share a bit about myself aswell. I am a 26 year old doctor (since 1 year, currently working on the emergency department outside of the US). I identify as male, but have never really thought gender mattered to me. Anyways I am both from my person view of the world and from my profesional position as doctor interested in what it means to be non binary to you. I've gone through some old posts such as these trying to awnser all my questions, but i still have some i would like to ask:
In what way do you feel like gender influences your life? Do you think its possible to live without gender? How does your gender identity influence your life? (some context behind this: i never feel like gender plays an important part of my life. Whenever i hear people refer to gender groups (just boys being boys, the girls go shopping etc) i always kinda cringe and feel uncomfortable. I never really feel like my gender really identifies me as a person at all, and it feels like the least interesting thing about me or anybody else)
Very personal question: a lot of information online refers to body dysmorphia being a diagnostic criterium for being non binary. Do you agree that you must experience some form of body dysmorphia to be able to identify as non-binary or do you disagree?
I often think that in a couple hundred years gender roles will probably disappear, do you think that people will still identify by a gender at that point?
Do you care about what gender you are reffered as? (most people do with "girl" often being used against boys as an insult)
How has identifying yourself as non binary changed your life?
(I am sorry if I offend anybody with this post, I am just very curious about your experiences and how they differ from one another)

2024.05.17 00:08 Aggressive_Depth_268 Does anyone else ever feel like their sexuality gives them a unique experience in friendship?

(18F)I've been thinking about this for some time and wanted to know my fellow bisexuals' thoughts on this. While this is of course a broad generalization, it seems like many straight people approach friendships with the opposite gender differently due to the fact they are potential romantic interests. For example many of my straight female friends are very concerned with the image they present to guys, even those who they have a completely platonic connection with. They also seem to constantly overthink if various guys like them even with little probability and this affects their behavior around guys as a whole. Just to be clear I am excluding situations where there is any sexism issues involved since the various such issues in society cause women to be more wary of guys. However, I feel like as a bisexual I view my friendships with guys and girls in a more similar fashion than straight people, because I can't be constantly overthinking these things in regards to EVERYONE I meet. I think this has been overall positive for me because it allows me to form close friendships with guys too, completely devoid of anything romantic or sexual. At any point in my life, my close friends have always been half girls and half guys. It could be something about my personality or interests, but I'm wondering if being bisexual has anything to do with this. Any thoughts?

2024.05.17 00:08 Fantastic-Age5899 waitlisted at nb sas and sebs

Hi, I applied to Rutgers NB and N for EA. I got accepted into N - SAS but i’m waitlisted at NB - SAS & SEBS. My primary academic interest is pre-dentistry. Many people I know have been getting accepted off the waitlist at NB for SOE, RBS and i’ve heard some from SAS too. I really want to go to SAS and I didn’t update my SRAR until earlier this week. I’m really scared now because of how long it’s taking to receive a decision. My ECs are really good, I have volunteer experience, i’m in honor societies, i have club officer positions and my application in that sense was pretty good imo. My only concern is my GPA, I have a 3.3/3.4, which is pretty low compared to other applicants so I really hope that doesn’t deter me from getting accepted. I have many other options but RU NB is the most practical one. Has anyone heard back recently for SAS or SEBS?

2024.05.17 00:05 Zeddblidd Two for 1993 - The Adventures of Huck Finn (1993) / The Sandlot (1993)

From IMDb - Adventures of Huck Finn - In Missouri, during the 1840s, young Huck Finn fearful of his drunkard father and yearning for adventure, leaves his foster family and joins with runaway slave Jim in a voyage down the Mississippi River toward slavery free states.
2024-188 / Zedd MAP: 55.68 / MLZ MAP: 40.50 / Score Gap: 15.18
Wikipedia / IMDb / Official Trailer / Our Collection
From IMDB - The Sandlot - In the summer of 1962, a new kid in town is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his rowdy team, resulting in many adventures.
I rolled out of bed, took a few minutes to wipe the sleep out of my eyes, get that cup of coffee every new sunrise offers, and sat down in my trusted armchair - Mrs. Lady Zedd pushed play and The Adventures of Huck Finn hit the screen. I guess we’re doing this now - Morning Movies, well - I can bring the movie on whenever.
MLZ is a woman possessed - she’s been driving the big numbers we’ve been making this month: these two make #30 and #31 for the month ((damn)), we’re moving right along. If I’m being honest, I always associated movie watching with myself but Mrs. Lady Zedd is a cinephile’s cinephile. You’d have to get up pretty early in the morning to actively engage motion pictures like she does. She’s interested in any genre and I can’t even make that claim.
Neither of us had seen this incarnation of Huck Finn and it’s pretty much a pedestrian look at the life and times of a kid from a very different walk of life and time… but aren’t we just the same? That seems to be the message of any movie pushing Americana at its core. Nothing wrong with that (per se) but my “propaganda” button goes off at times like these.
“I don’t know why,” I say, “but this movie feels like *The Sandlot - the way it’s put together, the syrupy dialog and the clarity of the picture.” MLZ hmms and ya, see thats as I’m talking. It’s not about the story but the way the story is being told. Wide-eyed look back - that overwhelming feeling that the good old days were then, not now. Maybe it’s just me but I suggest we watch The Sandlot next and she readily agrees.
It’s while I’m filling in The Sandlot’s particulars that I spy (with my little eye) both films are from 1993. Ain’t that just the way. I’m filling in my form and am halfway through the cast when I wonder when each were in the theater? If I had to guess, I’d say Sandlot is pure early summer - Huck Finn could be fall?? I check: Sandlot is April 1, 1993 / Huck Finn is April 2, 1993. ((Blink-blink)) I just stare off in space… guess we picked well, from a date standpoint.
I pull up 1993 in the MCC because I wonder - there’s another motion picture I’d throw into a “feels like this” pile, and there it is: Matinee. “Huh” I say out loud - MLZ says, “Sounds about right.” and that’s when all hell broke loose.
The doorbell rang (despite all sorts of signs asking delivery drivers not to) and the dogs straight up go berserk. There are scratch marks above the top of the door - these pups are serious where the doorbell is concerned. The delivery? The very last Disney Movie Club order (this time for real). I’ll post pictures.
As we come to the end of the second film, I have to ask myself - how would either of these movies landed on me if I was 8 in 1993 (instead of 1979). I’m not sure - both movies share an insipid “the way we were” element, a fake history that I’ve always had a mild allergic reaction too. The kids in ‘79 were all hopped up on the future - NASA, and men walking on the moon, and Star Wars, and Tron… everyone I knew couldn’t hardly wait for what the future would hold… if I could broadcast a message from now to then, I’d simply say, “Live for the moment, the future is pretty shit.”
I asked Mrs. Lady Zedd what she thought and she said, “I think you get way too philosophical about everything.” A long blank stare later, I say about the movies. She said both were “fine”. Elijah Wood was more that cute as Huck, you can see he was already developing as an actor.
As for The Soundlot she gave me that fake smile she gives when something didn’t sit well with her. “The over the top of the movie narration just popped my movie bubble - every - damn - time.” She said it was so awkwardly done, so poorly written, so defectively slapped in there, it’s a brown patch in an otherwise “meh” apple.
I’m left to scratch my head. Things can change over time and my MAP dropped significantly since our last viewing in 2021. I normally look up past write ups to make sure I’m not just restating what’s already been said but I know for a fact that won’t be the case. I’d developed some nostalgia for the movie based on our neighborhood’s regular July 4th block party. The guy down the street played The Sandlot on his garage door every year before the fireworks got started.
Our neighborhood had changed a great deal since the pandemic. People moved on, new (less friendly) people moved in. I hate to say it but politics have transformed things as well. I think many of you will recognize what I’m saying. No more 4th of July (or any other) block parties.
What’s the opposite of nostalgia? Sad sentiments, I guess. We’ll be gone from here sooner than later, I hope something positive will come of our time in Texas - some hidden cause to smile, later, when I think back.
Movie on.

2024.05.17 00:03 LuciusNoir Just watched the Good Trouble Show with Ross, regarding the latest Lue's admissions. Made a summary using the new GPT 4.o. Is it fair and impartial? (Not an ad. Read the statement before judging, please.)

This is not an ad, nor a piece to sway you to use AI LLMs (fancy abbreviation for Large Language Models) to do your reading for you...
I'd like you to view this post as a portal to what's coming. More and more people will use the tools in question to summarise lenghty and complex topics to ease their daily struggles. Not everyone has the time to follow the subject thoroughly, on a daily, or even a weekly basis.
Personally, after following "The Subject" for quite a while, and being quite impartial myself, I've ran into the mentioned episode of the GTS...I'm a readewatcher myself, and been playing with AIs recently.
Made me wonder: is current tech, especially LLMs like 4o, capable of being unbiased and as close to the available material as possible? Are there any lines in the sand for those? Any limitations? Forced replies, maybe? Controlled speech?...
I'll leave that up to you to decide in the comments.
Please let me know if you'd like me to run more of these tests, as this is important for future users of this tech, imo. It's coming sooner than we all think and it's paramount that we all keep up with it. Sounds ominous to some extent, but that's the truth.
Btw, 4o advised me to revise this post's format for more karma...bloody thing 😆 Worst part is that it's most probably true 😋 Didn't do it, thought. It's all me. For now, at least...
If you've red so far, here's the conversation I've had. I've used the new voice recognition and reply functionality, so it was an organic experience to me. No edits were made afterwards, except for below transcript. I have an OCD...
It's quite lengthy, though.
"Reddit UFOs Summary
16 May 2024
OP: Could you go online and make a summary of the most interesting posts on Reddit, particularly subreddit UFOs from the past 24 hours?
ChatGPT: It seems I'm unable to access the Reddit pages directly. However, you can easily check the latest posts on the UFOs subreddit by visiting UFOs. This subreddit typically features user-submitted content including videos, photos, personal sightings, and discussions about recent UFO news and theories.
OP: What seems to be the issue for you accessing Reddit?
ChatGPT: The issue likely stems from the browsing tool's current limitations in accessing and interacting with certain sites, including Reddit. This can be due to various reasons, such as changes in the website's structure or access restrictions.
For real-time browsing and detailed subreddit content, visiting the UFOs subreddit directly will provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date posts.
OP: With access to YouTube, can you summarize YouTube videos?
ChatGPT: Yes, I can summarize YouTube videos. Please provide the link to the video you want summarized, and I'll give you an overview of its content.
OP: Try to access the Good Troubles Show regarding Lou Elizondo and summarize it for me.
Searched 5 sources
ChatGPT: The Good Trouble Show, hosted by Matt Ford, recently featured Lou Elizondo, a former director of the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), known for his insights into UFOs and UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena). Here are some key points from the show and related content:
Insight into UAPs:
Lou Elizondo provided a detailed Q&A session discussing the nature of UAPs, the challenges in identifying them, and their potential implications for national security. He emphasized the importance of understanding the advanced technologies that UAPs might represent and the need for continued investigation and transparency in this area (YouTube).
Collaboration with Experts:
In another segment, Elizondo had a conversation with NASA astronaut Terry Virts. They discussed their experiences and perspectives on UAP sightings, particularly focusing on incidents involving military personnel and the potential scientific explanations for these phenomena (YouTube).
Public and Governmental Reactions:
The show also explored the broader reactions to the increasing reports of UAP sightings, including the responses from the public, media, and government agencies. Elizondo highlighted the evolving perception of UAPs, moving from fringe interest to a topic of serious governmental and scientific inquiry. For a comprehensive understanding, you can watch the full episodes of The Good Trouble Show here and explore more content on their official YouTube channel here (YouTube) (YouTube).
OP: Thank you. Good job.
ChatGPT: You're welcome! If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.
OP: One more thing you could do for me on the web is to check the name Ross Coldheart. He's an Australian journalist. I would like to know specifically if he's a credible person based on his work. Can you run that for me?
Searched 5 sources
ChatGPT: Ross Coulthart is a highly credible and well-respected Australian investigative journalist with over three decades of experience. He has won multiple prestigious awards, including five Walkley Awards, which are the highest honors in Australian journalism, as well as the Gold Walkley. His investigative work spans various media outlets, including the Sydney Morning Herald, ABC TV's Four Corners, Nine Network's Sunday program, and 60 Minutes. Coulthart's journalism has uncovered significant stories, such as the Butcher of Bega medical scandal and the complicity in violence in East Timor, both of which earned him international acclaim (Wikipedia) (ICIJ) (Ross Coulthart).
Coulthart has also authored several best-selling books, such as "Dead Man Running" and "In Plain Sight," which delve into organized crime and UFO phenomena respectively. His rigorous investigative approach and compelling storytelling have established him as a reliable and influential figure in journalism (Coast to Coast AM).
OP: Could you elaborate more on the book you wrote, the one called In Plain Sight? Could you give me a summary of that book, or some sort of an insight to it?
Searched 2 sources
ChatGPT: Ross Coulthart's book, "In Plain Sight: An Investigation into UFOs and Impossible Science," delves into the phenomenon of UFOs, or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs). The book examines the history and recent developments surrounding UFO sightings, including admissions by the US Department of Defense acknowledging the reality and potential threat of these phenomena. Coulthart investigates by interviewing various experts, witnesses, and officials, uncovering information that suggests possible technological advancements and cultural implications. The book challenges the traditional dismissal of UFOs as mere conspiracy theories and calls for serious inquiry into the subject (In Plain Sight Book).
OP: Give me a couple of quotes from the book that are the most significant ones.
ChatGPT: Here are two significant quotes from Ross Coulthart's "In Plain Sight":
"I believe in evidence. I believe in observation, measurement, and reasoning, confirmed by independent observers. I’ll believe anything, no matter how wild and ridiculous, if there is evidence for it. The wilder and more ridiculous something is, however, the firmer and more solid the evidence will have to be."
"In 2020, however, after decades of denial, the US Department of Defense made the astonishing admission that strange aerial and underwater objects frequently reported and videoed by pilots and tracked by sensors are real, unexplained, and pose a genuine national security concern."
These quotes highlight Coulthart's commitment to evidence-based investigation and underscore the gravity of the recent official admissions regarding UAPs (In Plain Sight Book) .
OP: Would you say that the first quote, I believe in evidence, and so on, would be a paraphrasing of Carl Sagan, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence?
ChatGPT: Yes, the quote from Ross Coulthart does indeed reflect a similar sentiment to Carl Sagan's famous assertion that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." Both emphasize the importance of rigorous evidence and independent verification, especially when dealing with unusual or extraordinary claims. This alignment with Sagan's principle underscores Coulthart's commitment to a scientific and skeptical approach to the investigation of UFOs and other phenomena.
OP: What are your thoughts on the recent UAP-UFO congressional hearings and all the evidence that has come to light, including the recent Lou Elizondo's claims that there's been threats to his well-being or his family's well-being? What do you think about that?
ChatGPT: The recent UAP-UFO congressional hearings and the increasing transparency from military and government officials mark a significant shift in how these phenomena are addressed. Here's a summary of key points and my perspective on them:
Congressional Hearings and Government Admissions Increased Transparency:
The U.S. government's decision to hold public hearings on UAPs and to admit that these phenomena are real and pose potential national security concerns represents a major change in policy. This shift suggests a growing recognition of the need for serious scientific and security-oriented investigations.
Credible Witnesses:
The hearings have included testimonies from credible witnesses, such as military pilots and intelligence officials, who have observed or analyzed UAPs. Their accounts provide valuable firsthand information and lend credibility to the phenomena being more than just myths or misidentifications.
Lou Elizondo's Claims Threats to Well-Being:
Lou Elizondo, a key figure in bringing UAP issues to public attention, has claimed that there have been threats to his and his family's well-being. If true, these threats could indicate attempts to silence or discredit individuals who push for transparency. This raises concerns about the potential implications for whistleblowers and the culture within military and intelligence communities.
Significance of His Role:
As a former director of the Pentagon's AATIP, Elizondo's insights and experiences are invaluable. His claims suggest that there may be deeper layers of information and potentially classified details that have not yet been disclosed to the public.
Personal Perspective Scientific Inquiry:
The move towards greater transparency and scientific inquiry is crucial. Investigating UAPs with a rigorous, evidence-based approach will help differentiate between natural phenomena, advanced technology from other nations, and genuinely unexplained incidents.
Cultural Shift:
The hearings and increased openness reflect a cultural shift in how we approach unknown phenomena. Moving away from ridicule and towards serious investigation can foster a more informed and rational public discourse.
Security and Ethics:
The claims of threats to individuals advocating for transparency are troubling and highlight the need for protections for whistleblowers. Ensuring their safety is essential for maintaining the integrity of the investigation and encouraging others to come forward with credible information.
In conclusion, the recent developments in UAP investigations, including congressional hearings and testimonies from credible witnesses, signify a positive step towards understanding these phenomena. However, the alleged threats to individuals like Lou Elizondo indicate the complexities and potential resistance within certain circles, underscoring the need for ongoing support and protection for those involved in bringing these issues to light.
OP: Could you draw some parallels between this particular topic and the Watergate scandal?
ChatGPT: Drawing parallels between the current UAP-UFO investigations and the Watergate scandal can help highlight the dynamics of governmental transparency, accountability, and the role of whistleblowers. Here are some key similarities and differences:
Similarities
Government Secrecy and Lack of Transparency:
Watergate:
The Watergate scandal involved a series of illegal activities orchestrated by the Nixon administration, including the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters and subsequent cover-up efforts. The administration's secrecy and lack of transparency were central issues.
UAP-UFO Investigations:
For decades, the U.S. government maintained secrecy regarding UAPs, often dismissing or downplaying their significance. Recent admissions and hearings suggest a move towards greater transparency, but past secrecy still looms large.
Role of Whistleblowers:
Watergate:
The scandal unraveled largely due to the efforts of whistleblowers like Mark Felt (Deep Throat), who provided critical information to journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.
UAP-UFO Investigations:
Figures like Lou Elizondo and other insiders have played a similar role, coming forward with information about UAPs and pushing for transparency. Their disclosures have been instrumental in bringing the issue into the public and governmental spotlight.
Media Involvement:
Watergate:
The investigative journalism by The Washington Post was crucial in exposing the scandal, demonstrating the power of the media in holding the government accountable.
UAP-UFO Investigations:
Media coverage has been significant in the UAP-UFO discourse, with outlets like The New York Times publishing detailed reports on the Pentagon's investigations and whistleblowers' claims. Documentaries and news programs have also played a key role in informing the public. Public and Congressional Scrutiny:
Watergate:
The scandal led to extensive congressional hearings and investigations, ultimately resulting in President Nixon's resignation.
UAP-UFO Investigations:
Congressional hearings on UAPs have been conducted to understand the phenomena better and assess their implications for national security. This scrutiny is a step towards greater governmental accountability.
Differences
Nature of the Issues:
Watergate:
Involved clear illegal activities, including burglary, wiretapping, and obstruction of justice, committed by government officials.
UAP-UFO Investigations:
Focus on understanding unidentified phenomena and potential national security threats. The issue is less about illegal activities and more about the need for transparency and scientific investigation.
Immediate Impact:
Watergate:
Had immediate and direct political consequences, including legal actions and the resignation of a sitting president.
UAP-UFO Investigations:
The impact is more gradual, involving shifts in public perception, policy changes, and potentially new scientific discoveries. The immediate political consequences are less direct.
Public Perception and Stigma:
Watergate:
Initially met with disbelief but quickly gained credibility as evidence mounted.
UAP-UFO Investigations:
Long associated with stigma and ridicule, making it harder for the topic to gain serious consideration. Recent shifts in official stance are beginning to change this.
Conclusion
Both the Watergate scandal and the UAP-UFO investigations underscore the importance of transparency, the crucial role of whistleblowers, and the impact of media and public scrutiny in holding governments accountable. While the contexts and nature of the issues differ, the underlying themes of secrecy, the quest for truth, and the demand for governmental accountability resonate in both cases. The evolution of the UAP-UFO investigations may continue to parallel Watergate in promoting greater transparency and accountability, potentially leading to significant changes in public policy and perception."

2024.05.17 00:03 KeevinPoker This is how much money I made on YouTube for poker vlogging

Thought that some of you may be interested.
Context: I started my YouTube channel in September 2023, vlogging my poker sessions. Always loved poker, enjoy growing the game, and was always interested in videography/filmmaking/editing etc., so I just thought that this would make a great passion project. I knew about youtube monetization but never really aspired to become a big youtuber or anything. I am still a small channel - basically a nobody atm. I thought that even if I ever get monetized (I honestly thought it could take years), it would be nice to just earn a few bucks a month (free coffee!) for doing something I enjoy. Starting out was tough. I'd get negative messages of hate for seemingly no good reason. Some would comment on how much they hate my music (I write/produce original music used in the channel). This subreddit also seems to particularly hate vloggers, which I've learned with first hand experience lol. But I also got a lot of positive comments of support and encouragement, which really helped to keep me going. Recently, I posted a video "How to beat low stakes poker - 7 tips to crush 1/3" and that vid gave my channel the boost to meet the youtube monetization requirements (1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours). I just uploaded a vid to share my earnings for the first 10 days of monetization, and thought that some of you might be interested in those numbers as well.
Duration: 10 days
Views: 2.7k
Revenue earned: $11.44
Average RPM (Revenue per 1000 views): $4.17
Time it took me to get monetized: Around 7 months (25 videos)
If you were ever curious how much a poker vlogger or youtuber makes from youtube, you can use these figures as a bit of reference. It's definitely not any conclusive data though. The RPM fluctuates radically. If interested, below is the link to my vid where I go over the numbers and share some more stats from my backend, briefly explaining the youtube partner program. Peace and love and run good!

2024.05.17 00:00 L0uisVuitt0nD0n Are there any solid certifications or courses I can pursue instead of a master's to break into RA?

Hey y'all, I'm a biotech manufacturing associate that's been interested in RA, but not really sure how to make the switch. Every role seems to require some regulatory experience, and there's not much about my current role that could translate as experience for an RA position. I've been considering pursuing an online masters in regulatory science on the side because my current work schedule allows it, but are there any other alternatives or certifications that could help me land an entry level role? From what I've gathered, a master's is not necessary at all (with experience being more valued) and it would also be great to get some exposure to this field without committing to an advanced degree first. Assuming this would be a long term career option for me, would a master's help with opportunities for more senior positions years down the line?
Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

(May 16, 2023) – IBC Advanced Alloys Corp. (“ ” or the “ ”) ( ) announces its financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2024. IBC recorded its highest ever quarterly net income in the quarter of $1.36 million, or $0.01 per share, on sales of $10.2 million. Both net income and sales revenue set new quarterly records for the Company. Consolidated sales of $34.3 million on a TTM basis and sales of $27.0 million in the nine-month period ended March 31, 2024 also were the highest ever recorded. Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA rose to $2.5 million, a Q/Q increase of 325%, while YTD Adjusted EBITDA rose to $4.5 million. Consolidated operating income of $2.1 million was 24.4% higher Q/Q and flipped to a positive $3.2 million YOY. Net income for the nine months ended March 31, 2024 was $1.14 million ($0.01 per share) on sales of $27.0 million compared to a loss of $2.92 million ($0.03 per share) on sales of $21.2 million in the comparative period, representing a marked turnaround. This record performance was driven largely by increased sales and stronger gross margin performance in IBC’s Copper Alloys division, coupled with higher sales revenue from the Engineered Materials division of beryllium-aluminum products used in defense markets, and the recovery of an onerous contracts provision booked in the prior year. The Copper Alloys division also achieved near-record quarterly sales of $6.6 million, eclipsed only by sales of $7.1 million in the preceding quarter. A portion of the division’s sales over the preceding two quarters was driven by the completion of two special non-recurring projects. “The IBC team worked tirelessly to achieve some fantastic numbers and historic gains in the third fiscal quarter, which continued the strong sales and gross margin performance of the previous quarter," said Mark A. Smith, Chairman and CEO of IBC. “I like the momentum that we are generating, particularly with the leading performance of our Copper Alloys division. While market conditions have triggered closure of our Engineered Materials division sometime this summer, that team is striving to generate substantially to IBC’s bottom line as Engineered Materials completes contracts on hand.” IBC expects to incur a charge to operations in respect of its April decision to close the Engineered Materials division and is negotiating with suppliers and the building landlord to minimize such costs. Sales increased for the quarter and nine-month period ended March 31, 2024, mostly due to increased demand from customers in the defense and power generation sectors. Gross profit was positively impacted by improved material yield but negatively impacted by higher subcontract costs. Sales increased for the quarter and nine-month period ended March 31, 2024, largely due to more favorable prices for the division’s products in the commercial and defense markets. Full results can be seen in the Company’s financial statements and management’s discussion and analysis (“ ”), available at and on the Company’s website at . IBC will host a live investor webcast on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. Eastern featuring Mark A. Smith, CEO and Board Chairman, and Toni Wendel, Chief Financial Officer. They will discuss the Company's financial results for the quarter and nine-month periods ended March 31, 2024. IBC believes that operating income (loss) helps identify underlying trends in the business that could otherwise be distorted by the effect of certain income or expenses that the Company includes in loss for the period, and provides useful information about core operating results, enhances the overall understanding of past performance and future prospects, and allows for greater visibility with respect to key metrics used by management in financial and operational decision-making. The Company believes that Adjusted EBITDA is a useful indicator for cash flow generated by the business that is independent of IBC’s capital structure. Operating income (loss) and Adjusted EBITDA should not be considered in isolation or construed as an alternative to loss for the period or any other measure of performance or as an indicator of our operating performance. Operating income (loss) and Adjusted EBITDA presented here may not be comparable to similarly titled measures presented by other companies. Other companies may calculate similarly titled measures differently, limiting their usefulness as comparative measures to IBC’s data. Operating income (loss) represents income or loss for the quarter, and year-to-date, excluding foreign exchange loss, interest expense, interest income, other income (expense) and income taxes that the Company does not believe are reflective of its core operating performance during the periods presented. A reconciliation of the quarter and year-to-date loss to operating income (loss) follows: Adjusted EBITDA represents the Company’s income (loss) for the period, and year-to-date, before interest, income taxes, depreciation, amortization, and share-based compensation. 2024.05.16 23:54 Toeburns Tangential misogyny

Hi all,
I'm in my first season in wildfire, and I'm the only woman on my four person crew, and one of 3 women on a base of ~40 people.
Generally people have been quite supportive of me being here, and treat me like anyone else. No one has ever said anything misogynistic TO me.
But I'm noticing a lot of general misogynistic terms and attitudes flying around about other women. (None of whom I know, since I'm so new). Certain dispatchers, former crew members, duty officers, etc.
Heard the word "bitch" a couple times, and I get the impression that at least a couple guys around are pretty quick to jump on the faults of any of the women working here. Also often heard assessments (positive or negative) about a woman's physical attractiveness, etc. My crew leader is super nice to me, but one of the worst culprits of this.
It feels pretty shit, and makes me wonder what or when this shit will be said about me behind my back. I've never been targeted, to my knowledge, and I've called it out a couple times when I've been in good position to be so. But honestly, I don't think it should be the responsibility of the only woman in the room to tell someone to watch his fucking mouth when dropping "bitch". I was hoping one of the 30 "nice guys" around would step up but I haven't seen it. Pretty disappointing.
Since I'm so new I'm scoping things out and getting to know the lay of the land while I try to figure out my strategy for this kind of stuff.
I'm interested in what strategies ladies with more experience have had with speaking up about this kind of thing. Especially when it's not about you per se, just the general standard about how people talk about women.

Chase sell price to rebuild an orphan: 1.02+1.03+?
12 team SF. I'm thinking of offering Chase to the player with Burrow so he has the stack. I want more assets or picks to rebuild an orphan. He also has the 1.02, 1.03, 1.10, 2.03, Olave and Flowers as assets I'm interested in. Arich is his QB2, and he has said he wants a viable QB3 since they both missed time last year. My QB's are Dak, Mayfield, Carr, Darnold and Browning.
Im thinking of offering Chase+Mayfield+ throwing in Browning for 3 major assets. 1.02+1.03+ what other asset makes this a fair deal? Asking for a 2025 1st doesn't seem like a good idea because he could go to the moon....or not with the Burrow/Chase stack. The 1.10 gives me flexibility on position but is more of a crap shoot than the early picks. I'm thinking Olave>Flowers>1.10>2025 1st>2.03
I have the 1.04 and if I get the 1.02 and 1.03, I'd draft MHJ, and 2 of 3 of Nabers, Daniels and Maye.,

2024.05.16 23:53 lordlovesaworkinman (New York City) I was just shitcanned. Do I have a wrongful termination case?

Hello. I was fired last week and considering filing a complaint for discrimination and wrongful termination. Curious to hear your thoughts.
The background: I was hired into a position where, unbeknownst to me, I would be required to perform two jobs at once.
Job 1 was what was in the job posting and job description and something I'm good at. I won the company several big accounts and led them to the most profitable quarter in the company's history.
Job 2 was not in the job posting or description and is something I suck at, in part because I don't have the background, training, and skillset. It's an insanely detailed job that requires superior time management and organizational skills. I have medically diagnosed and currently-being-treated ADHD, which makes it even more challenging. I would have never taken the job had I known the Job 2 duties would be part of the job description.
I flagged my concern over Job 2 to my manager the first month I was hired in and continued to raise and document my concerns about my ability to perform in the job and the stress it was causing me and my team. I also went to HR with these same complaints.
I did not mention having ADHD to my manager until I brought it up in a conversation about 5 months after I hired in. He hates people who make excuses and I did not want to be seen as incompetent. I didn't mention it to HR until shortly after that, again because I was afraid of being seen as incompetent and also I feared retaliation from my boss.
Multiple times, I requested in writing modifications such as an additional person on my team to perform this function, a change in job duties, and/or project management software to help me manage everything.
All of these requests were denied by my boss. He said I should be able to do it myself.
And so, I tried but obviously still sucked. I received negative performance feedback from my manager. He did not use our employee performance review tool, but rather sent notes in a Google doc and over email.
The situation got increasingly serious, and eventually I was told by my boss it needed to get better in a week's time or I would be fired. I asked for his help in coming up with solutions on how to improve. He told me I needed to come up with these solutions myself and gave me 2 days time to present them to him in a meeting.
Freaking out, I went to HR with a timeline that included all of the times I had raised the issue of not being able to perform in the Job 2 aspects of my job and asked for help that I did not get as well as the two times I had mentioned having ADHD to my boss. I also mentioned the time my boss had made a rude joke about my age. For those reasons, I asked HR to initiate an investigation into my boss. HR said my concerns were serious and that they would initiate that investigation.
Meanwhile, I had the meeting with my boss and proposed the solutions to him that he asked for. He said they were not enough and that I should prepare myself to be terminated. I was taken off projects and basically shut out of all the work I was normally doing. It was super humiliating and shitty.
A couple of days go by. HR says they are still conducting the investigation into my boss but won't tell me anything about the process of who they're talking to or what was happening, only that they'd follow up with me when they reached a conclusion.
Cut to, my boss, HR, and the president of the company put a meeting on my calendar. I assume it's to talk about the next steps regarding the investigation into my boss and/or mediation (something I had proposed to HR because my boss and I appeared to be at an impasse).
Anyway, I was fired in this meeting. I asked for the status on the investigation into my boss. HR brushed it aside and said I was being terminated for poor performance.
Now I'm wondering if I have a case -- EEOC, retaliation, or otherwise. I'm guessing no because the answer is always no and you can't fight city hall, but just thought I'd throw it out here on Reddit in case anyone's interested in offering an opinion.

2024.05.16 23:52 jeanrenefefe How to upgrade a Creative Zen Micro to 128gb (with and without a VM)

I know this is an iPod subreddit, but it's the most active subreddit dedicated to mp3 players (I think). I know there are some fans of these players around here but let me know if you want this gone though.
After a few frustrating weeks of trying to upgrade my Creative Zen Micro to 128gb, I finally succeeded on upgrading it. Here is a step by step.

With a Virtual Machine

Given that the software part can get very frustrating, I suggest that you first focus on creating a working environment based on your stock mp3 player. This will limit the number of things that can go wrong.
This was tested on a Windows 11 machine (called Host from now on).
Download Virtualbox. Use your own Windows XP SP2 image or find one (google: archive + WinXPProSP2ENG). Download the Windows Media Player 10 updater from archive.org Download the Creative Zen Micro drivers and upgraders from archive.org
Install Virtualbox. Install Windows XP on Virtualbox - this can be a big step if you don't have much experience in this field, but there are plenty of tutorials on how to do it - check the references below.
Now that you have your Windows XP VM (called Guest from now on) up and running, go to the Devices tab on the top of your screen and click on "Insert guest additions CD...". This will insert a virtual CD containing some Virtualbox drivers and you'll get a pop up on your Guest machine. Install them and reboot your machine.
Turn off your Guest machine.
Connect the Zen Micro to your Host machine. Your Host machine should recognize the player with no trouble.
In Virtualbox, click on your VM machine and go to settings > USB > USB2.0 > click on the 'plus' sign and add your device there. The name should be "Creative...".
Now, in the same settings menu, go to the tab "shared folders" and click on "add". Now, choose the folder you want to share between the Host and the Guest machines. Give it a name and a mount point. I picked "sharewithxp" for all the fields, including the name of the directory on Host. Check 'auto-mount' and 'make permanent' (if it exists).
On your Host machine, copy the files MP10Setup.exe, ZenMicroPDE_PCFW_LB_1_11_01.exe and JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_01_00.EXE to the shared directory you just created. Also copy MP10Setup.exe.
Turn on your Guest machine and go to "My Computer". You should see your shared folder in there. Copy all the files from there to your Guest's desktop.
Install MP10Setup.exe - this upgrades the Windows Media Player from 9 to 10. By experience, Windows Media Player 11 was problematic and apparently 9 isn't ok either. Stick to WMP 10. This was key for me. It really didn't work without WMP10.
Install JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_01_00.EXE - these are the drivers for the Zen Micro.
Disconnect your Zen Micro from your computer. Connect it again. Go to devices > usb on the top menu and make sure your device is selected.
Execute ZenMicroPDE_PCFW_LB_1_11_01.exe If everything went according to plan you should now see an "Upgrade" button. If you see said button - congratulations because this was the most painful part of the process. I realized that when the device is correctly loaded, the executable won't open right away - It takes a few seconds. If the device wasn't fully recognized, you'll see a message saying "Your player is not connected, please connect your player".
(If you got the dreadful second message and no "upgrade" button, try to reboot your Guest machine. Disconnect and connect your player again. Make sure it appears on the devices menu.)
Now that you have a working environment, let's move to the fun part.
Format your micro sd card (fat32 if I'm not mistaken) - I used a Sandisk Extreme 128gb (the golden ones) and it worked fine. Insert the micro sd on your CF-to-SD adapter. I got the the only adapter I could find (red one).
Disassemble your Zen Micro - there are tutorials and videos around that show you how to do it better than I possible could - check the references below.
Remove the CF card from the mp3 player and insert the adapter. Pay attention to the position of the old CF card. CF cards don’t have a big distinguishable difference on one side like sd cards do. It's really easy to get mistaken and connect it on the wrong side. The only differences are the slots/openings on both sides of the CF card/adapter - one is larger than the other. When the adapter is connected and in place, its label should be visible (pointing upwards). Take a picture of the original CF card if needed or check the video in the references below.
Assemble everything back but do not insert the battery right away.
Toggle the power button to the left and hold it that position. Insert the battery. You should now be in recovery mode. Navigate to "format all" and click ok. Navigate to "reboot" and click ok.
Connect your player to the computer and, in the Guest machine, make sure it is selected on the devices > usb menu.
Open ZenMicroPDE_PCFW_LB_1_11_01.exe If everything went according to plan, the upgrade button should now be visible. Click. Wait. Enjoy.
PS: Inside the Creative Zen Micro link, there is also an upgrader for the most recent version - 2.21. I haven't tried it because I don't think it brings anything that interesting to the player. There are also 2 older drivers in there - also untested.

Without a VM (native Windows XP running on a modern computer)

Soon.

2024.05.16 23:51 AMMARHD How do i know if i’m doing the right thing ?

So in our college there is this attendance system where you have to attend the lectures and at the end the professor will hand you a piece of paper with a QR code on it and on the back there is a random number, after you receive your QR code you have to return home and wait for the professor to send you a google doc link where you have to fill in the serial number inside the QR code and the number on the back both have to match or you attendance will not be counted additionally you have to collect and maintain all the physical copies of the QR code in case any of discrepancy. This term the college had a 40% absence policy (originally it was 20% but they changed it due to the fact that almost all students have had more then 20% absence rate) and i was sent an email that i have missed 4 out of the 10 lectures in the course and that i was deprived from attending the final exam , after reading that email i got extremely anxious because i already have a lot of academic load that i was intending to attend summer courses to finish them so one more subject added to them will set me back a lot, after pacing around the apartment for hours trying to find all the codes i had and counting them i found out that i have attended 8 out of 10 lectures meaning ive missed only 2 so way less then 40%, so admittedly i was frustrated and went to the college with an appeal letter because the hell is this (additionally the subject that i was deprived from it final exam was about a week away so the timing of this BS couldn’t have been worse) after meeting with me I provided sufficient evidence to them that i have attended all the 8 lectures out of 10 and after reviewing the professor told me ok congratulations study well for the final exam you may leave, now before leaving the office i made a remark to on of the professors in the office that i thought the mistake was on their part not mine (don’t know why i said it i guess i just wanted to voice my frustration to them) the professor that congratulated me asked me what do i mean by that ?, i doubled down on my position and stuck with my narrative that a technical error had happened on their part that caused all this mess but he fucking hated my guts that i dared to speak to him as of he was doing me a massive favor for revoking the deprivation decision, one think led to the other and he started shouting at me and called the security to escort me out of the office and speaking with a vague language that he may not revoke decision, after leaving I filled a complaint about the professor at the dean’s office the complaint was about the fact that i was scared the professor will keep the deprivation decision even though i have provided enough evidence to revoke it. I got an email the next day says that the decision was revoked but around night time the same day a second email was sent that i had to be at the vice dean’s office urgently. After going their i found out the that they asked me to discuss my complaint letter to the professor but they did anything but that, the vice dean charged me guilty as soon as i entered her office refusing to let me sit and asking me to explain what happened but with every sentence i said she spoke in insanely judgmental voice so i realized she is not interested in hearing my side she just going with whatever the professor told her so i immediately folded and let her do her worse and take it all in, after speaking to me in horribly insulting voice she demanded that I apologize to the professor and if he does not accept my apology they will keep the deprivation decision and i should be grateful for him for revoking the decision (which is grade A bullshit there is no precedent anywhere that a professor could fire a student from a course that he is not even a professor in just because the student looked at him funny) so i just stayed silent and left. I know i did right by voicing my frustration and i know i did no wrong even with the professor i kept a very calm voice and never raised mine, but everyone from my friends to family telling me that i should’ve kept silent and did wrong by speaking up, all my life for 12 years in school I probably talked to a teacher like 5 maybe 6 time i was always kept to be scared from teachers from people older then me and fearing what they might do if i speak this was the first time ever i have stepped up to someone that I thought he was in the wrong but man after all this im still anxious and sick in the stomach and sure not feel like i gained anything out of all this mess, im an international student in this college and studying on my own expense and the country that im in is sure not know for any good legal system hell after that vice dean interaction it felt like a shake down and abusing the fact that I probably can’t go anywhere to find a voice of reason. So was i wrong for speaking up ?

2024.05.16 23:51 mr_boizoff Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED Earphones Review

Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED Earphones Review
A job change and all sorts of other adventures made me take some time off from the reviews. But, as the saying is, "Don't count on it!" — there will be a lot of them in the short run, and they will be interesting, well balanced and spot on!
In short, let's talk today about the in-ear wired earphones Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED (or just RED later on), which I purchased for about $55 you know where.
https://preview.redd.it/9ywolwakyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57da9791a73200cc6d3c99ce8a3c061657ae7bb8
By the way, my old camera broke down, so I bought a new one, that's why the pictures will be even more unbelievably brilliant now. Come on and get a look, all the pictures are clickable, as always.

Truthear in a nutshell

Truthear, a Chinese company, has just turned 2 years old, but they have already released 5 models of earphones and one portable DAC. The company was allegedly founded by one or more Moondrop people. With all the trimmings of modern Chinese fashion, Truthear has a mascot, which is an anime girl named Shiroi, weighing 45 kg, 170 cm tall and... I have no idea why I say all this.
Their partner in the field of 3D printing technology is HeyGears, whose equipment or capacities, I believe, Truthear uses to produce its devices (at least, earphones).

What's included

The proud owner of this top-quality cardboard box will find in it as follows:
https://preview.redd.it/ea3yvoxpyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd5ea91ac6fdb1ec11c76dd3f8c77c81b7b7b7e9
1. the earphones themselves;
2. a cable with a 3.5 TRS connector;
3. an adapter with an additional load of 10 Ohms (I'll tell you why we need it later);
4. a set of 7 pairs of eartips;
5. a fair-to-middling cover made of faux leather;
6. a pile of papers with the image of Shiroi.
The box, I will repeat myself, is perfectly made, I've never seen anything like this. I'm totally cool with the set, it's a good one.

Technological features, build quality

RED use a less common structure 'a larger dynamic driver + a second smaller dynamic driver'. The first one is responsible for the subbass and bass up to 200 Hz and has a diameter of 10 mm, and the second one plays the rest of the range and has a diameter of 7.5 mm.
The manufacturer talks about the 'CCAW voice coil', that is, about the fact that the driver coil is made of copper-plated aluminum wire. Usually, when it applies to headphones, this is made to reduce the weight of the driver's mobile system. This technology is not new: for example, it is also used in Moondrop Aria Snow.
Besides, 'DLP', or 'Digital light processing', 3D printing technology is mentioned. This is a three-dimensional printing process, characterized by high accuracy and the ability to correctly reproduce extremely small details.
And the last but not the least, the earphones are optimized for use at high volume (over 94 dB) and configured in accordance with the 'IEF Neutral 2023' curve by Corin Ako (better known as Crinacle), but with some adjustments in the bass and subbass sections, giving the sound of RED more weight and physicality.
So, RED are earphones printed on an industrial 3D printer, based on a 2-driver scheme. And Crinacle, a well-known reviewer and owner of the largest IEM measurement database, is responsible for tuning RED.
The earphones have a simple but distinctive design. The enclosures are completely glossy and slightly transparent on the inside. On the outside, there are mildly glaring red inserts under a coat of varnish.
https://preview.redd.it/5og1uxwsyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0403d22e9fcb489cf8da789149869145fcf8349
You can discern bass speakers inside at a definite angle.
https://preview.redd.it/9v2r688uyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=846183aa032e50b66ae4344c5af8fe6109e1cc26
The grids of the sound ducts are neat, inserted smoothly.
https://preview.redd.it/6b569ycvyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a2a9a4c28e277808efd6e80c2b767457ee7e640
There is one compensation hole per each earphone, located in close proximity to a 2-pin connector. L and R are marked in bright golden letters. Small edgings for fixing the eartips were made, too.
Overall, they are quite good and even stylish. The only issue is microscratching that affects the enclosure right off the bat. But it's not really perceptible to the eye.
On top of that, the earphones act as a magnet to fingerprints.
The cable is just decent. It doesn't get too tangled, and the earholders are made at the right angle. The metal splitter is solid black, with the company logo printed on it.
https://preview.redd.it/c7331knwyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d66836329928887b3fc396b7bb6596bf486eae20
The very same cable comes with Truthear HEXA and Zero earphones.
The case is made decently, too, but it does not have any internal compartments or partitions. I already wrote about how an adequate case should be designed 5 years ago – no one has released anything alike yet.
https://preview.redd.it/3rbvma2zyu0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc21b72be8af06e6cd816a5903135b0e1255c46a

Ergonomics

The geometry of the RED enclosures turned out to be perfectly compatible with my ears. They don’t have any strange concavities, bulges, or sharp edges, the sound ducts are positioned at a natural angle, the dimensions of the enclosures are... ordinary, only a little thick. Just put them in and listen to music. And they don't have much weight at all.
I'll assume that the sound ducts may turn out to be uncomfortably large for owners of small ears, because, let's be honest, these are not sound ducts, they are simply muzzles. Probably, when you get a first taste of these earphones, you will want to change your favorite eartips for the same, but smaller ones.
The flipside is the noise insulation — RED's one is above average because the earphones fit in tightly.
As for the 10-Ohm adapter, it is not convenient to use it on the go: a few centimeters long, thin rigid structure will stick out of the player audio output, which can easily damage the connector if stressed accidentally.

Quick specifications overview

  • Design: in-ear closed-back.
  • Drivers: 2 dynamic drivers.
  • Impedance: 18 Ohms.
  • Sensitivity: 117 dB.
  • Connectors: classic 2-pin, 0.78 mm.
  • Weight: 6 g (each earphone).

Subjective sound impression

RED sound great: balanced and new at the same time. Imagine that a 'top-up' of a very weighty and fast subbass was added to neutral sound delivery, which never overlaps the bass for a moment, not a iota, let alone the mid-frequency range. What's more, a lot of well-articulated high frequencies were poured in (we're talking about the 3-10 kHz range), but not those that get sandy, filled with sibilants that grate on the ear. They are just heard very well. This is, you know, sort of 'a joy of a HF-phobe who still wants a lot of HF'. With this in mind, the middle range is perceived to the utmost, there are no dips and curbs there, and it is just excellent.
The result is a 'smooth', but vibrant and simultaneously informative sound delivery with a stable low-frequency basis, perceived as 'dynamic' and 'detailed'. It is ten kinds of cool, simply brilliant tuning that retains its uniqueness and accuracy far beyond the price category of these earphones.
Against the background of the high frequencies delivered in this fashion, RED have a clear and wide virtual sound stage with a clear localization of instruments. It could be better, but in a very, very different price bracket.
Why the RED sound might not work for someone:
  • The sound is not 'thick'. And that's exactly how a normal bass, separated from the subbass, not affecting the midrange, sounds like.
  • "I hear something that's out of place". When mixing, the authors decided to make the recording 'brighter' or simply did not handle the sound very carefully, having thought that no one would hear the nuances. If this was the case, RED will let you hear weird synthetic glide sounds, abrupt high-frequency sounds etc. To cut it short, you will hear a lot of blatant defects in the music poorly recorded and mixed, as well as a lot of new and amazing things in the well-recorded and -mixed one.
  • There's not enough subbass. And here comes the 10-Ohm adapter included. Upon its connection, the bass and subbass are raised by 3 dB (see the next section). Even if everything is fine with your subbass perception, when using RED in an urban environment, the low-frequency range being masked with external sound sources may require the usage of this adapter.
  • The ultra-high frequency range (from 10 kHz and above) could be more delicate. Actually not, it couldn't because the earphones cost 5,000 rubles and not 50,000.
  • To sum up, in terms of frequency balance, the RED sound is truly unique and one of a kind. For me, RED have become the first in-ear headphones in a month of Sundays that made me freeze on the spot when listening to music that I've been familiar with for a lifetime.

Measurements

The earphones were connected to the RME ADI-2 DAC (IEM output). A measuring rig conforms to the IEC60318-4 standard. The provided eartips were used for measurements. The smoothing is indicated on the graphs. For the info about rigs, graphs and headphones measurements, refer to my article.

Keep your eye out for the dashed green line – this is the target curve conventionally named Crinacle Neutral Target 2023. This target curve was proposed by Ako in April 2023 as an alternative to the Harman curve, which is appreciated by far from everyone. The diffuse field curve measured at the Type 5128 rig manufactured by Brüel & Kjær was used as a basis, which was then transferred to the IEC711 rig and 'tilted' clockwise. Why it was done and why this way – I will try to answer these questions in detail in another article on the theoretical part of measurements, but I won't go deep at the moment.
What matters is that this is not just a tuning. This is a very specific tuning that has been contemplated on for quite a while.
To put this in perspective and see something more common, here is the frequency response of RED and the most current Harman curve:
https://preview.redd.it/hi0j1bkuzu0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fd9854f18d81798fc43e769f6eca16027dbb144
And the situation here is very interesting:
  • up to 200 Hz, the RED frequency response corresponds to the Harman curve in shape;
  • 200 Hz are 'sunk', and this is what gives a feeling of elastic, full-fledged subbass;
  • at low frequencies and in the middle, there is a smooth addition of up to 2 dB at maximum;
  • the midrange rise is shifted from 2.7 kHz slightly to the right;
  • peaks after 13 kHz are most likely aberrations of the rig, I personally do not hear them.
Does such sound tuning have a right to life? My ears tell me that yes, more than that.
As a reminder, there is a 10-Ohm attenuator included.

When it is connected, the left part of the frequency response graph rises predictably, and the sound becomes more 'common':

The left/right volume balance is not ideal, but acceptable:
https://preview.redd.it/iwsc9mh00v0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7fb32e88c180e2183a53c7747464d5ab8382ef5
Nonlinear distortions (these are measurements that should not be 100% trusted because my equipment is far from perfect):

Sound source choice

For my listening tests, I've connected the earphones to the following devices.
  • PC + RME ADI-2 DAC fs (IEM output) – unbalanced connection
  • PC + RME ADI-2 DAC fs ('High Power' mode) – unbalanced connection
  • Hiby R6 gen 3 ( Gain – High, Amplifier Operation – Class AB/A)
The sources were switched by a mechanical input switch.
With Hiby R6, the earphones' sound is a little more bassy and solid. I didn't hear any other difference in the sound of RED when using various sources.

Eartip choice

I didn't like the eartips provided.
https://preview.redd.it/ibe7nc860v0d1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbd68bf567e714ad6809423295c8e0b049af3048
Three left pairs have a clearly smaller diameter compared to one of the sound duct and are just difficult to pull on. The right pairs fit the sound ducts easier, but just like the left ones, they're not really soundproof.
As for foam eartips, I just don't like them.
In short, I tested RED with TRI Clarion, and the same I recommend to you. The fit is comfortable, deep and tight enough.

Comparisons

PLEASE NOTE: everything I say below is only applicable to the earphones from the point of view of comparison to other models, nothing more!

RED vs. Truthear HEXA

The Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED and Truthear HEXA frequency response graphs compared:
https://preview.redd.it/690dctkb0v0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=901456e8b5ae27dfe60ab024099b82a41dd4f49a
Subjective difference in sounding
  • RED are much bassier as compared to HEXA.
  • HEXA have a more pronounced middle range and less accentuated upper frequencies.
  • However, the upper frequency range of HEXA is less even, so the peak of nearly 7.5 kHz is perceived more clearly with HEXA.
Compared to each other, RED's sound can be called 'V-shaped', with their sound delivery more versatile, whereas HEXA are more 'reserved' and 'neutral'.

RED vs. Moondrop May

I'd like to note that comparing RED earphones and, in fact, DAP+earphones, which is what May is, is incorrect. Therefore, below we will talk only about the sound. May were connected via their standard DSP cable, and the equalizer was set to 'Standard'.
The Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED and Moondrop May frequency response graphs compared:
https://preview.redd.it/up1nlade0v0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10b015a8032de6440aefc8033fde02c579d72268
Subjective difference in sounding
  • May highlight the range of about 6 kHz in a stronger manner, their sound is more sonorous and sharp.
  • The voices in May's interpretation sound noticeably closer.
  • May give the sound a little more 'physicality' and 'dirt'.
Compared to each other, RED's sound can be called more 'neutral' and even 'intelligent', whereas I would characterize May's sound delivery as 'rougher', less 'balanced', more 'subjective'.

Summary

The Chinese economic ramp-up, the development of manufacturing technologies for drivers and enclosures, as well as the development of knowledge about sound in in-ear headphones let us buy a product for $55 in 2024, for which sound they would have charged us good $550 without batting an eyelid and turning a hair 10 years ago, although it seems questionable to me that someone would have been up to such tuning at that time.
And I'm quite agreeable to give credit to Crinacle: while I honestly wrote in the KZ Zex Pro review that the earphones were frankly poorly tuned (whether through Crinacle's fault or not, I have no idea), RED is a completely different story. This is just an example of how to proceed from competence in the field of headphone measurements to successful headphone production.
I am not inclined to believe, of course, that this was a sole effort of Crinacle — everyone sang in harmony, both him and Truthear as the immediate manufacturer.
In general, everything is both clear and complicated about RED at the same time: these are earphones with a universal fit and eminently calibrated tuning, combining neutrality, detail, weight, dynamics and lack of listening fatigue in equal measure. Top it off, there is a 10-Ohm attenuator included for those who 'starve for the lower section'.
To buy or not to buy: to buy, at least just for the fun of learning what kind of tuning is this!

2024.05.16 23:46 AfterSchedule4 Begins youth ending

So I just watched the last for eps and I have some thoughts. Feel free to share your own thoughts as well if you like :) I personally loved the drama, although I am sad of it being over seeing as nothing was resolved and it was only “the beginning”. Even when it came to the mysteries of the season I thought we would at least resolve some but it looks like not…. We never got answers/explanations on the fire incident.. only that time travelling hwan is the man in the cap. The parents past was only hinted a little bit we basically know nothing there too. The story is just left way to open for it to be a satisfying ending.. I fully expected this but it is still disappointing. I knew of the bad things to come but even knowing didn’t prepare me for how depressing and sad those last eps have been… I cried a lot especially in the last two eps. The show just fully delivers when it comes to the emotions.
And all the characters are just so good!!! -Jooan. I can’t stop praising his actor… He did such a great job with the character and his scenes always hit hard especially in the last episode when he stabs his father. The fact that in difference to the bu storyline he cares and does the most he can to help his father makes everything much more sad. He was holding on to the happy memories of their family and wanted to desperately bring it back. It truly shows how pure and innocent he is underneath all that anger (which makes sense how he developed in this abusive environment). The unfortunate truth is that he must let his father go. Bringing him to his mother, sister was a very wrong decision and he payed the price for it. Side note I would like to know how did the father end up like this?? Him being one of the parents involved in the time travel makes things more complicated.
-Cein. Even knowing what will happen couldn’t prepare me for how sad his death was. The last scene of ep11 hit me so hard. Like he just wants to be understood for who he really is but people won’t give him that chance because of his reputation…even tho he is such a nice person… It is so sad… I don’t dislike the father his problem imo is that he not an empathetic person that can emotionally connect with others. He tries to be but he is not that type of person. He has also been through a lot because of Cein. Him doubting Cein about the death of his mother was a heartbreaking moment for me… He should have had more faith in his son, unfortunately he didn’t even if it was only for a moment. And for Cein who at that point had only been pushing through for the sake of his father it was the nail in the coffin. I know a lot of people love the yoonkook duo but personally my favourite pair was Cein/hwan. And seeing how it was his death that brought hwan to start the time loop was very impactful. Also #justiceforcein He needs to put that slimey principal behind bars for whatever he did to his mom (which was most likely sa) and clear his reputation.
-hwan is an interesting case… Passive as he is in a very toxic environment he lets himself get swayed by the principal and the father. It was frustrating to watch him doing what they tell him, defending the principal and all that but I can understand that it is hard to go against the authority basically in his life, especially as a young teenager. And all of it led to him saying “I’m afraid I’m gonna become like my father” and leaving for America was a development I liked. His father is also such a mystery!!!! His relationship with Cein’s mom, his time travel attempts that he forgot all about… He is a very bad person now to his son and a dirty politician with the most outrageous thing he did being trying to kill dogeon with the principal?!? But from my knowledge of the bu I can guess that he wasn’t always like that. So the question is what led him to become the way he is???
-Dogeon is actually such a nice person. Mature and forgiving who wouldn’t want him as a friend??? The amount of responsibilities he gets on his shoulders with all those jobs to provide for his family where others should have bailed. Working until exhaustion to low grade underpaid jobs when he is capable for so much more is so sad and unfair to watch. Him breaking down to his mom asking her to save him was heartbreaking. And that moment he let all his frustrations out to jooan was very understandable you can only take so much as one person and some times you have to put yourself first. It is not selfish but a necessary step for self preservation. Of course my heart broke for jooan having to hear that he is burden to the one person he thought he could rely on. The rift that was created after that between them was unfortunate but it also shows how much jooan cares about his friend that he decided to distance himself for his sake.
-Hosu: Despite all his trauma and his problems being able to maintain a positive attitude and be cheery is such an admirable trait!! Even when it comes to his mother he holds no ill towards her but just wants her to be happy?? He is just too kind! I mean it is no wonder why haru would rely to such a person so much!! Looks like he has problems in the orphanage with those bullies (that dogeon brothers is with). And he also feels guilty for what happened to haru…. Ho much can one person take? Haru and hosu just have way too many together
-jeha it’s very interesting how he is the one that found the book… and baby it is not your fault the group split up! He is so worried of people disliking him he assumes it immediately.. And all the guilt both him and Cein have after the incident is too much… I still wonder when he started tracking Cein? When and how did they meet? And how come jeha became so attached to him? I feel like we need some clarification on that cause why would someone be in a group with older people without some circumstance being involved. Unpopular opinion maybe I but I don’t dislike Jeha’s mom as much as the others.Yes she is letting him get abused by the stepfather to prevent them from getting kicked out and yea she did want to put the blame on Cein for their own benefit… but I do feel that she genuinely cares about her son and that is her way of doing “what is best for them” and I can’t hate her for that.

2024.05.16 23:45 Ornery_Aardvark_2083 Need Advice on Unexpected Non-Renewal of Tenancy Agreement After Renewal Negotiations

UK-London
Hi Reddit,
I recently received an unexpected notice from my letting agency, informing me that my tenancy agreement will not be renewed, despite having already negotiated and signed a renewal contract. I am looking for advice on how to handle this situation.
Here's the full context:
Key Points from My Response to the Agency:
I am deeply upset by this sudden turn of events, especially considering the previously positive relationship with the landlady and my efforts to accommodate reasonable requests.
I would appreciate any advice on:
Thank you in advance for your help!
[Female 31yr old Working primarily from home as data engineer for a bank]
Snippet from the last email
"The landlord, having considered the highly sensitive nature of your work and disruption caused to you by the necessary work at the building to ensure compliance with the new government guidelines and the safety of all occupants, and that it will be necessary for further appointments for surveyors or workmen to attend where it cannot be guaranteed they will always be on time or turn up at the appointed time, has decided that it is not in either parties interest to renew the tenancy and wishes you well in your next home. Therefore you will shortly be receiving formal notice, Section 21, to end the tenancy on the 25th July"
