2024.05.16 22:56 dawggrad19 Career growth vs comfort ?

Currently in a dilemma of pursuing higher pay/more seniority or staying put.
My job is 100 percent remote , compensation is a bit over 6 figures and work/life balance is pretty good ( as long as I get my work done my manager doesn't care what I do ) . One side of me is saying what's the point ? Why add extra stress to my life if I don't need it ? The other side of me really thinks I need to pursue more responsibility and climb the corporate ladder . I really wouldn't have cared too much about titles and getting paid a little extra about a promotion but it's starting to get to me . I've had 3 conversations about being promoted, each time I accomplished what was the ask for being promoted to that next level. And each time it's always something else when we talk about it . I wouldn't be as butt hurt if no one gets promoted to the next level but I see all across the organization where people in similar positions get promoted within the time frame I've been here .
I live in a LCOL area , 27 years old , save around 40-60 percent of my income each month and I have a sizable inheritance coming my way. I should be content but I'm not . Jobs postings on LinkedIn for true remote roles are few and far between and pay scale isn't too far off from what I make . Anyone else going through something similar ?

Prices reduced, again, more mice added.
All prices are shipped, OBO, CONUS ONLY, same day if possible. Happy to trade as well, list of mice and mousepads I am looking for is below, feel free to ask about items not on my list. Feel free to offer other mice and mousepads that are not on the list. About half the mice come with the box - if they come with the box, it's shown in the timestamp.
Will discount for bundles (larger discount for larger bundles). Will of course send more photos to interested buyers upon request.
Have >25 purchases, sales, and trades on mousemarket in the last 6 months.
I am simply thinning out my collection. All of these mice are duplicates for me (I have too many mice...), and in most cases I bought a sealed BNIB or open-box version of the mouse and am now selling the one I had before.
Pwnage Stormbreaker Black $100 - Like new, only used twice because I prefer the LE Nacho color. Has brand new and unused red Pwnage glass skates installed. Comes in box with dongle and cable, does not include screwdriver or grip tape.
Finalmouse Air58 Ninja Mystic Blue $130 each - No boxes. Both in excellent working condition. No yellowing or major cosmetic defects. One of them was only rarely used but comes with stock skates, the other was used more often (but not that much) and comes with aftermarket skates which I was told are FM-1 Hyperglides (they glide amazingly), so I have priced them the same.
Finalmouse Ultralight Sunset $95 - No box, mouse is in excellent working condition.
Finalmouse Ultralight 2 Capetown #1 $75 - Comes with the box, open-box minus the infinity skins. Was only used several times, and the infinity skins were removed for use on a different UL2 capetown.
Finalmouse Ultralight 2 Capetown #2 $60 - No box. Picked this up as part of a bundle only for a different mouse I wanted. Lightly used by the original owner, I never used it myself aside to verify functionality.
Finalmouse Starlight Pro last Legend Medium $155 - Almost no usage on the mouse, mouse is like-new. Stock skates have been replaced with dot skates. Does NOT come with centerpiece code or grips.
GWolves Skoll SKL $30 - Complete-in-box. Picked this up as part of a bundle only for a different mouse I wanted. Lightly used by the original owner, I never used it myself aside to verify functionality.
GWolves Hati HTM $30 (wired) - Complete-in-box. Picked this up as part of a bundle only for a different mouse I wanted. Lightly used by the original owner, I never used it myself aside to verify functionality.
Logitech G PRO x Superlight $50 - No wire or dongle, but has box and grip tapes. These seem to be going for $80 or so with dongle, and dongles which can be repaired seem to be $15-$20. Picked this up as part of a bundle only for a different mouse I wanted. Lightly used by the original owner, I never used it myself aside to verify functionality.

2024.05.16 22:46 CrushingPhotography What Cameras and Lenses Do Sports Photographers Use? (Across Various Price Points)

You may wonder:
And that’s exactly what I’m here to help you with today.
Here are the top 5 best cameras for sports photography (beginner and advanced folks) across various price points.
I'll also include the recommended lenses for sports for each of the camera body mentioned.
These options work for a variety of events/team sports:
Whatever camera you decide to choose, remember, for this photography genre, fast focusing and high frame rate is what you need to look for.
Alright, here's the roundup of the best cameras for sports photography.

1. Canon Rebel T6i

Type: Compact SLR Weight: 555 g Resolution: 24MP LCD: Fully articulated Touchscreen: Yes Weather-sealed: No ISO: Auto, 100-12800 (expandable to 25600)
While the Canon Rebel T6i (or 750D outside the US) is not ‘the latest and greatest’, it’s still a sweet choice in many ways.
Here are my 3 reasons why you should consider it:
The kit lens isn’t good for this genre though!
(The T7i is the newer model but it’s also a bit more expensive.)
Reasons to buy:
Reasons to avoid:
Best lens for action shots:
Most of the kits come with the 18-35 lenses but those are not long enough, so that’s why you should get 18-135mm lens for sports photography.
Moving on to the next camera.

2. Canon 7D II

Type: Mid-size SLR Weight: 910 g Resolution: 20MP LCD: Not articulated Touchscreen: None Weather-sealed: Yes ISO: Auto, ISO 100-16000
Canon EOS 7D Mark II is one of the most advanced APS-C sensor DSLRs at the moment.
In fact, it is one of the best affordable Canon cameras for sports on the market today.
It’s also one of the best DSLR cameras under $2000 budget (with the kit lens that you can use for this type of photography).
There is no abundance of secondary functions in it common for newer models, but everything a professional photographer or a videographer needs is always at hand.
This is a real workhorse with lots of capabilities.
It has excellent autofocus, both when viewed through the viewfinder, and when using the display. It also has the highest speed of continuous shooting and a large buffer.

Reasons to buy:

Reasons to avoid:

Best lens for action shots:
As I mentioned earlier this glass is a good one to get because it’s long enough for moving objects. If you’re on a budget, it’s always better getting a used 7D II body but absolutely do get that 18-135mm.

3. Nikon D500

Type: Mid-size SLR Weight: 860 g Resolution: 21 MP LCD: Tilting Touchscreen: Yes Weather-sealed: Yes ISO: ISO 100 – 51200 (expandable to 50 – 1640000)
The truth is...
Nikon D500 is one of the most amazing digital cameras ever produced by Nikon, equipped with a DX format sensor.
The Nikon D500 uses a new 20.9-megapixel CMOS sensor and a new Expeed 5 image processor. High burst rate (10 frames per second) and 153 points of autofocus, located throughout the frame area are an excellent offer for that kind of money!
It is complemented by an inclined touch screen, which makes it even more convenient. The D500 also has excellent video capabilities and allows you to shoot in 4K.
Keep in mind, this Nikon body is not for those who are looking to buy their very first DSLR.
All the charms of this camera will be appreciated only by an experienced photographer, meanwhile it will be difficult/frustrating to master for a beginner.

Reasons to buy:

Reasons to avoid:

Best lens for action shots:
If you use D500 with the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 telephoto zoom, then you have an amazing combo to crush it in sports photography. This glass is at a relatively lower price-point.
The new ones are a bit better but the older one will be just a bit cheaper if you are on a lower budget. (Don’t worry you won’t see that much of a difference in the lenses overall).

4. Sony a9

Type: SLR-style mirrorless Weight: 673 g Resolution: 24 MP LCD: Tilting Touchscreen: Yes Weather-sealed: Yes ISO: Auto, 100-51200 (50-204800)
This one is one of the best mirrorless cameras for sports photography (and an official EISA Award winner).
Sony a9 is a high-speed full-frame mirrorless that’s designed to go head to head with Canon and Nikon’s flagship professional DSLRs.
The a9 presents a high rate of burst of up to 20 frames/s, and a large buffer of up to 200 RAW frames, as well as an impressive ISO performance.
Even though smart modes of autofocus (such as focusing on the eyes, Lock-on AF and priority in the recognition of faces) require some time getting used to, they can significantly facilitate your work.
The 5-axis stabilization in this hybrid camera works well (both for photos and videos).
I must say that it’s also great for video shooting:
There is 4K and slow-motion shooting of 100/120 frames/s in Full HD. There is only no support for S-Log profiles, however the rest of the traditionally wide range of features is preserved.

Reasons to buy:

Reasons to avoid:

Best lens for action shots:
Given that we are talking about sports, the best lens that’s recommended to buy along Sony a9 is Sony 70-200 GM fixed zoom lens.

5. Nikon D5

Type: Large SLR Weight: 1415 g Resolution: 21 MP LCD: Fixed Touchscreen: Yes Weather- sealed: Yes ISO: Auto, 100-102400 (expandable to 50-3280000)
Without a doubt...
Nikon D5 is one of the best DSLR cameras for any pro level photography, including sports.
Everything in this product, every little thing is set up to ensure a simple and guaranteed result when shooting in any conditions.
1) It’s not afraid of dust and moisture.
2) It easily, if not the best out of all cameras, deals well with the lack of light.
3) D5’s autofocus works so stably and quickly that you simply forget about it.
4) The speed of the continuous shooting and the large volume of the frames in RAW can guarantee you catching the right moment in any photo-shooting scene.
5) The resource of the battery makes it possible to shoot for a day without stopping or limiting yourself with the number of frames.
Nikon D5 is one of the best DSLRs for sports photography today.
It is an excellent choice for those photographers who really do shoot in difficult conditions and are required to guarantee the result

Reasons to buy:

Reasons to avoid:

.Best lens for action shots:
We now established what is the best DSLR if you are into sports.
If you decide to go with Nikon D5 instead of Sony a9 mirrorless, then go with the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 Sports DG Lens. You'll be blown away.

Best Cameras for Sports Photography: Final Thoughts

Look...
All of the aforementioned products are absolutely great. Some of them are full frame sensor, a couple of them are APS-C sensor (so keep the crop factor in mind).
They are not all expensive cameras. You can find across various price points, whether you are looking for digital cameras for beginners under $1000 or under the $5000 price tag, or more advanced gear for professional sports photographers.
In fact, all of the products mentioned are used by the pros and it shows that the quality really is top-notch (especially Sony a9, Nikon D5, and Canon EOS R with advanced autofocus systems).
Let's have a discussion in the comments.
Leave your suggestions or questions on the best cameras for sports photography (for beginners too).
Do include the following:
And/or any other thoughts on choosing the gear for action shots!

2024.05.16 22:46 Vivid-Illustrations For Those Who Get Commission Work... How?

I have a stable, 9-5 job that pays the bills nicely, so I'm not desperate for cash or anything. However, I am starting to get very discouraged at the business side of my art journey. I have paid for several classes and a couple mentorships under well known artists. My skills aren't at a studio level of perfection yet, but I would like to think I'm good enough to get paid for it by now. I've been studying hard for the past 4 years and impressed a few professional artists with my overall growth.
But I still can't seem to get any commission work. Not from friends, not from family, not from internet acquaintances, not from random people looking up my art on social media. Just completely dry. There were 3 opportunities where someone I knew online messaged me looking for some artwork to be made, but after we agreed to what it was going to be and the price, they went silent about the project. When I contacted them again about the artwork they all told me they decided not to have the work done. 3 people in 4 years showed interest and just dropped it before I even made one sketch. These weren't just random people either, I still have contact with them today, we still talk online.
Even though I have a decent 9-5, I'm gonna start feeling the squeeze soon. I just had my first child 2 weeks ago. He is a bundle of chaos and joy for me. I love every minute I spend with my son, but my wife isn't able to go full time back to work for 7 months. I am confident that my employer will help me out (they said as much) but I always pride myself on standing on my own two feet. I really want to supplement my extra baby costs with what little I can make doing commission work part time for individuals.
Is there a secret sauce I don't know about? Am I in an "art desert" part of the United States where no one gives a crap about DnD character illustrations? I have handed out many business cards at this point and made some promising connections online, but still nothing.
I'm not asking for much, just a job every month or two that can get me an extra $60, but whatever I am doing is totally not working. Is it the communities? I frequent ArtStation, DeviantART, and Reddit, looking for clients. If you guys all moved somewhere else to find commissions I would like to know the address. The money squeeze is coming soon and I don't want to make the decision between bacon or diapers on my next grocery run. I would like both, please.
Again, I am not desperate, just starting to feel my finances slip away a little. If I can live comfortably doing my two jobs (9-5 and an art freelancer) I will take that, but I'll also survive without the extra income. Though, I've spent too much of my life just "surviving." I would like to thrive at some point, and I want my art to be what opens the door.
So, with all that said, does anyone have any tips for getting small commission work? Locally, online, I don't really care, as long as it can land me at least one small job, which would be more than I've gotten in the past half decade. Not posting my portfolio on this subreddit because I'm not looking to advertise here, just wanting advice on getting a commission based business going. I post my portfolio to places where I'm looking for clients.

2024.05.16 22:45 Br0dster How to kick out someone’s mom from my apartment?

Very very long story and TL;DR at the bottom for this shitfest that has occurred
So basically me(M19) and my roommate’s(M20) lease was renewing soon and our other roommate was moving out soon so we’d started looking for a new roommate. I pretty much immediately found someone in one of my classes through a study group chat who was looking for a room over the summer and fall semester which lined up perfectly for the length of the lease we wanted to do. This girl (19F), who we’ll call N, came and toured our apartment and liked what we had. We were giving her the master bedroom and the private bathroom attached to it, alongside all utilities included for a pretty cheap price considering the area we’re in. She had decided to go with our apartment and started signing documents to be added to our lease.
N’s only caveat was that she would be getting surgery right before the lease started and would be in bed rest for a couple of days while recovering, and would need her mom(60’sF) to stay in the apartment and take care of her and all of that. Both me and the other roommate were fine with this and were accommodating to make sure things went smoothly. The day of the surgery came and N’s dad (50’sM) came to our apartment to check it out and get a vibe check on us, which I assumed he liked us since he was all for her moving in and thanked us for helping move a whole bunch of new furniture and her belongings in.
Then came the mom.
N got out of surgery and came to our apartment late last week and so did her mom. The mom was very much a conversationalist and would make it near impossible to end a conversation with her. Alongside that, she started to buy her daughter a lot of stuff for the new apartment. I’m talking new furniture, TV, food, appliances, and more.
The first sign of trouble was when she said she’d be staying in the living room on our couch instead of in her daughter’s room. N was given a master bedroom and there was definitely room for the mom to sleep in the bedroom with her, but mom decided to essentially take over our living room, casting her clothes and suitcases all over the place and turning it into her own little bungalow.
Then came her “inspection” of our apartment. She pulled no punches when she started insulting the way I kept my apartment for “a filthy carpet like a crack den” and “having neighbors that are prostitutes”. There’s a slight stain at the front door from when previous tenets would take their shoes off there, and the neighbor in question was an old black lady wearing boots. Then she started commenting on how I was raised and my social class since I didn’t have a lot of decor or nice things in my apartment.
I tried to just push all of this aside as an overbearing mom not knowing how to keep her mouth shut but it was just nonstop. N tried to apologize but there was too many incidents. Then the mom supposedly “found highly suspicious things” in our lease agreement that had already been signed, such as a lack of a fire escape (this is a two story building with several exits to the apartment) or explanation for a “other” fee in the rent (we get a whole bunch of amenities in our apartment like utilities covered, pool, gym, etc). Nothing could appease this mom, so she pulled the nuclear option and yesterday told us she’s not going to allow her daughter to live in “a place like this” and she found a more suitable gated community for her to live in.
But she hasn’t left, it’s been two days since she’s exited our lease, the new lease has started, but this magical new apartment hasn’t been secured yet and there’s no sign of them moving out yet. I’m tired of this mom insulting me for the way I live not being “up to her class” and I’ve already told her how offended I was she would insult me like that and I barely got an apology out of her. Wtf do I do to get her out of here, my only holdback is she agreed to pay her daughters portion of rent until we find a new roommate so I don’t want to absolutely kick her out but idk what else to do? Anything is appreciated.
TL;DR: mom helps new tenet move in and decides she hates my apartment and cancels lease but still hasn’t began to move yet

2024.05.16 22:38 EquipmentTraining613 MCB 102 in-Depth Review (Spring 2024)

When I was preparing to take this course I wish I had a detailed review like this, so hope this helps...
General thoughts: I would be lying if I said this class is "easy." It's definitely not a class you can not study for at all and get perfect scores in. You need to put in the work. But it's not impossible, and definitely not as horrible as some people make it out to be.
Part 1 (Professor Ahmet Yildiz):
I went into the first section of the course thinking I'd need to memorize a bunch of amino acids, pKa's, etc.. There was not a lot of that. Yildiz is a professor who prefers application/conceptual understanding over brute force memorization. Take this with a grain of salt because the fall/other professors may have a different approach to the first section of 102. There is still quite a bit of info you need to memorize, but not to the extent people make it out to be.
His lectures are fairly dry. He did not know how to keep track of time/pace himself very well so he would often go thru only half a slide deck and need to pick back up during the next lecture. Thankfully he stuck to his word and did not expect us to learn info he didn't get to. Important to note that he has a fairly thick accent and talks quite fast so it can be difficult to catch every word he is saying at times. Nonetheless, his slides were pretty clear.
Exam was difficult but honestly not as bad as Ochem exams were for me. There's a mix of mcq, true/false, short answer, calculations, etc... The calculation questions were the hardest imo. Keep in mind he's a biophysicist so you'll see some of his physics background show up in the lectures & the way he frames his calculation-based questions. Regardless, the practice exam he gave from last year was definitely reflective of his exam.
He was the only professor to hold in-person office hours (helpful) and did stop for questions during lecture. Unfortunate part was that very little practice questions written by him were provided besides the practice exam.
Part 2 (Professor Evan Miller):
This section was quite content heavy, but was honestly my favorite section of the course. I attribute that to Miller's teaching. Miller is just amazing at what he does. He's super clear, succinct, articulate, knowledgable, and easy to follow along. His lectures pack in quite a lot of info but it never felt like that because he would annotate on his iPad alongside us as he taught. He always finished his lectures on time and was never in a rush. It's pretty obvious he has been doing this for a long time. He incorporated a lot of learning strategies in his section (active discussion/share-outs during lecture, pre/post surveys to assess student understanding, activities during discussion section, etc...).
Miller provided plenty of practice questions that were reflective/helpful for the exam. We received numerous problem sets, 2 practice exams, and practice questions built into the lecture. His exam was really long but because there was so many potential points - each question was not worth a whole lot (more room for mistakes). He was very upfront with his expectations and very helpful in office hours (held via Zoom).
Miller's section did incorporate some Ochem mechanisms but there were only 2-3 mechanisms on the exam. His section requires a combination of pattern recognition, memorization, and application. Very little to no math. After doing a bunch of practice questions you really get a feel for the type of questions he likes to ask.
Part 3 (Professor Ross Wilson):
People told me this section would be the easiest of the course. Not necessarily the case.
Professor Wilson is an extremely kind and easy-to-talk to/down-to-earth guy. He was always smiling, laughing, and making it easy to approach him. Nonetheless, his section's structure was not very helpful. Lectures were pre-recorded videos from 2020 that we were expected to watch on our own time. During the scheduled lecture time, Wilson would occasionally (on select days) show up to the lecture hall and do a Q&A / mini-review of the most recent lecture videos. Keep in mind these pre-recorded lectures were often an hour or longer. Wilson also stuttered/mumbled a lot. He would say something and then start questioning what he himself said or take something back. Or he would post a "correction" to something he said in the lecture videos. When people would ask questions during his in-person sessions, he would often get thrown off or not have a clear answer. I'm sure he's a smart guy but not necessarily the best teacher.
Wilson would provide really short assignments to complete (1-2 questions) but would then tell us that these questions were very hypothetical, not the best questions, too challenging, etc... Wilson constantly said he would not write such tricky questions on exams, but this wasn't necessarily the case. He was also constantly making comments about how he could have worded certain things better.
He was nice enough to provide ALL exams he's given while he's taught this course. He told us the most recent practice exam (2023) was going to be the most reflective, which was not 100% true because that exam was much much easier than ours and had questions straight up copy/pasted from previous years. Our exam was much harder than I expected it to be because the fill in the blank questions/MCQ's were each worth a lot of points. Getting one word or question wrong was quite costly. It was sometimes unclear what Wilson was asking for, or two answer choices seemed correct for the MCQ. It was kinda shocking because Wilson made it seem like his exam was going to be the easiest/ most straightforward when in reality it was quite challenging.
Content-wise, Wilson packed a LOT into his lectures. It was hard to sense what was essential info and what was more supplemental/examples. The way he structured his lectures often felt out of order. The man did provide an "elements to know" list with essential terms/concepts however, which did help.
I would argue part 3 was the hardest section of the course because of the structure/teaching style though Wilson is a hella chill guy.
Overall thoughts:
This course definitely takes foundational concepts from Bio 1A and builds on it (with some added Ochem ideas/principles and a bit of math). If you liked Bio 1A you will probably enjoy the course content. The professors were pretty decent but had 3 different teaching styles/course formats so I could see people getting lost with expectations/deadlines/assignments if they didn't attend class in-person. It would have been nice if things were consistent across the three sections.
One issue I had with the course was the lack of transparency regarding course grading. It took many weeks for the first exam to be graded and then the regrade process was a little chaotic. The professors never brought up grade bins during class nor was there anything about grades in the syllabus. I never knew how I was doing or what grade I might get in the class. People kept telling me that to get an A you had to do approx 1.5 stdv above average, which definitely caused some anxiety.
If you have to take this class I'd recommend it in the spring. For the spring semester, you get a 4x6 cheatsheet notecard for every exam (not always useful but still better than nothing). Lecture recordings are always provided (which I heard isn't the case for all 3 sections in the fall). The professors ended up being very generous with the final grade bins for the course. We weren't provided with final cutoffs, but the head GSI suggested that approx 60 percent of the class got some form of A's or B's.
I was fortunate enough to do well in the course, so here is my advice for future students... 1) Don't skip lecture/ always attend in-person! I never missed a single one so keeping up with the material was not an issue. It's super easy to get behind in this class yet significantly difficult to get back on track once you slip up 2) Attend professor OH: I did this off and on but when I did go they were helpful. 3) Go to all review sessions - I attended GSI review sessions, professor review sessions, and the SLC ones - you have nothing to lose by going (more exposure to material the better). 4) Grind out ALL the practice exams/problems provided. They are 100% the best way to prepare for exams. 5) Take good notes and actually review them frequently. 6) Make Quizlet or Anki your best friend: I used flashcards to prep for every section and studied them on the daily. 7) Ask questions on ED or during discussion section: GSI's are very kind & willing to help.
I used the textbook a little bit for part 1 (was somewhat helpful) and did not for parts 2 & 3. You don't need it, nor would I recommend going searching for Youtube videos. Lecture has everything you need. Oh, and there's no cumulative final! Midterm 3 (section 3 exam) happens during the allotted final exam time. Workload for the class is on the lighter side - just some problem sets that are graded on completion.
All in all, I actually enjoyed the course to some extent. It was definitely a rollercoaster of emotions / a challenging journey, but I think if you put in a lot of work/effort and remain positive - an A is not out of reach. This is not a Bio 1A/1B or Chem 1A where you can simply study the night before and still do amazing (all 3 exams had averages between 55 and 60 percent btw). But it's not at all the horrible class people scare you into thinking - it's likely easier than the physics series here and some upper div MCB courses. I wish people didn't make this class seem like it's straight out of a horror movie, but at the same time hearing people's experiences definitely pushed me to work harder.

2024.05.16 22:34 Im_just_this_guy Mom has two LTC policies, and I've only been using one.

My mother suffered a fall a few months ago, which also accelerated some dementia that was slowly progressing before. So now she lives in a Board & Care place, with little realistic chance of leaving.
Fortunately, she had a long-term care policy with John Hancock. They have a 60-day elimination period, which we've just gotten to the end of, so while I've submitted two months of claims, it's the next month that will start the payments coming.
But there's a wrench in the works. It turns out she has a second policy with SHIP. This one apparently has no elimination period, which is nice, but I've already been working with only John Hancock for a couple of months now.
What do I need to do to handle this all the right way? Ideally, I would be able to get those first two months covered by SHIP, and after that I don't care about how things split up as long as she has coverage. I'm afraid of a scenario where each company says they won't cover anything until the other company has exhausted their coverage. Is that a thing? I'm also afraid of a scenario where John Hancock says "we found out you were already covered elsewhere, so now we want all our money back." I don't think this is the kind of thing where one policy is primary and one is secondary, since that doesn't sound like something LTC insurance would have. Amazon eliminates 600-800 key CS roles, passes work off to other employees
I used to work in the position that was just eliminated, putting in 50-60 hours a week just to be ranked “meets expectations.” The team managers that reported to me and the operations managers above me put in the same amount of work.
Suddenly eliminating these positions is incredibly sinister, cold hearted, and short sighted. I can’t even begin to fathom the negative impact this is going to have on the lives of the remaining employees, let alone what the people laid off are going through.
Amazon recently made the decision to close all but one of their physical contact centers in the US, which caused many of my former coworkers to have their positions eliminated because they weren’t able/willing to relocate to Seattle or another office. Naturally, there wouldn’t be a cost of living pay adjustment, despite Seattle’s incredibly expensive housing market. This also makes it much more difficult to unionize. Of course, I can’t say that’s why they did it, but I’m sure it was a part of the calculation.
This shit can happen at the drop of a hat, with record profits, and no prior warning. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Unionize today.

2024.05.16 22:29 OldiesStan Passed Step 1 on My 1st Attempt After Repeating My First Year of Medical School!!!

I am a third-year USMD who took Step 1 on 4/19 after a 5-week dedicated period. Technically, I studied for 7 weeks since I started watching Sketchy Micro and Pathoma during the last two weeks of preclinicals when we were in our last and easiest block.
Per my title, I repeated my first year of medical school after experiencing academic and personal challenges. I was originally part of the class of 2025 but transitioned to the class of 2026 after a few course and remediation exam failures. Honestly, before I joined my current cohort, I was a horrible student with a very poor and fixed mindset - most of my grades were borderline passing, I had pretty much given up, and I was convinced that I was only capable of doing the absolute bare minimum in medical school. When my school told me I had to repeat, I was terrified and unsure if I would even make it out of MS1 the second time around, but was also determined to make the most out of this fresh start and build a strong content foundation which I had failed to do the first time. Over the next two years, I used a consistent study plan for all of my blocks which I not only passed, but excelled in including the ones I had failed previously. I also adopted a growth mindset and healthy coping mechanisms for stress and anxiety, and had a strong support system consisting of family, friends, upperclassmen who also repeated or had their own academic struggles, faculty, classmates, and a free therapist from my school.
Today, two years after I received the devastating news that I would have to start medical school over from the very beginning, my hard work finally paid off when I got the long-coveted P yesterday. Dedicated was not easy - there were several times when I felt hopeless and like I would fail especially given my previous academic history. Additionally, even though my academic performance improved significantly with me getting only 80s and 90s after I repeated, my classmates were so smart that rankings-wise, I was still a pretty average student with my grades usually around the class average - sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. Ultimately, a consistent study plan tailored to my strengths and what worked for me during preclinicals helped me overcome my worries and conquer this beast of an exam.
I realize that this post is getting pretty long now, so below I will quickly outline my resources, scores, and timeline:
UWorld: 24% complete with 60% average - this was after I reset UWorld which I had used in preclinicals. I also only did 1 block of 40 questions a day except on days when I took NBMEs because I took a long time to thoroughly review my blocks. I tried to do 2 blocks once and was completely burnt out afterwards so I stuck to only 1 block per day moving forward. All of my blocks were timed and random which I feel exposed me to many high-yield concepts and helped me with pacing.
Anki: I did the Pepper Sketchy Micro and Pharm decks during the first 3ish weeks of dedicated but eventually stopped. I also made my own Anki cards from my UWorld incorrect and "unsures" (questions I had answered correctly but didn't know why or completely understand) and did these cards every day until my exam.
Resources: First Aid - Read all sections concurrently with UWorld and Anki.
Boards and Beyond - Watched videos on weaknesses that I identified from UWorld.
Sketchy Micro and Pharm - Watched all videos. Micro is definitely essential as it helped me answer lots of microbio questions correctly.
Pixorize - Watched LSD/GSD and vitamin videos.
Pathoma - Watched and reread chapters 1-3. Lots of extremely high-yield information especially in general path, cell and molecular bio, and immuno.
Mehlman arrows and risk factor PDF documents - Only used these toward the end of dedicated once I had completed content review to further reinforce concepts.
NBME high-yield images - Only looked at these the day before my exam.
Having a good foundation from preclinicals after I repeated also really helped make dedicated more doable.
Scores: School-sponsored diagnostic CBSE (early March 2024) = 58
NBME 26 (3/23) = 61
NBME 28 (3/30) = 61 - This freaked me out so I started revisiting concepts I had already reviewed, but not completely mastered, alongside new content review.
NBME 29 (4/6) = 70 - I attribute this big score jump to the above strategy. I used FA, B&B, and Pathoma for this.
NBME 31 (4/13) = 73
NBME 30 (4/16) = 76
New Free 120 (4/17) = 77% correct
Real deal (4/19) = PASS!!! I felt confident and ready to take the exam after seeing an upward trend in my NBME scores and consistently getting scores within passing range. The exam itself was similar to NBMEs and free 120 and I was able to finish all my blocks with about 10 min left which I used to review my answers. Trust your NBMEs and don't worry too much about your UWorld %!!!
I'm sorry that this post is so long, but I wanted to share my experience with Step 1 and what helped me get the P especially since this subreddit was a huge help for me during dedicated. I also hope that my story serves as encouragement for other students who have either repeated a year or experienced any kind of academic difficulty. Please don't give up - you are not alone and do have what it takes to pass Step 1!!! ♥️
Congrats to everyone who also passed, and for those who didn't, you are still amazing and deserve to be here.

2024.05.16 22:21 Flashy_Contract_969 My review after 3 listens

Generally speaking, another great Billie Eilish album. The highs are as strong as anything she’s ever released while there aren’t many super weak moments. It’s a great listen cohesively and lots of moments stand out as all time moments for her.
There’s lots of experimentation, far more than the first two albums. Some spots sound a bit like maybe they had some outside influence on the production and at times Billie’s flirting with pop more than ever before. There’s a great balance between instrumentation and electronics, though at times they dig in quite hard in the electronic sounds. There are less harmony vocals than a lot of her past work. There are quite a few spots where Billie sings a really, really quiet line that kinda gets lost in the mix.
Skinny - Just absolutely gorgeous. Really cool guitar riff, interesting chord structure and overall just a beautiful way to start an album packed with lots of different sounds. First example of a reoccurring theme - there are lots and LOTS of stuff where Billie sings a section insanely quietly, but it’s fine here. Strings are beautiful. 89/100
Lunch - Fun, groovy song about eating fish tacos. Upbeat, nice chorus, nice verses. Everything fits really well and overall. Production is a pinch muffled at times (that snare sound), but obviously intentional. One of the better songs on the album. Lyrics are silly in a good way. 86/100
Chihiro - This one didn’t land with me at all. Seemed too long and just not much excitement. Billie sings REALLY high in this song. Few interesting spots here and there but for the most part, one of the weaker spots on the album for me. 68/100
Birds of a Feather - 80’s 80’s 80’s…but in a more modern, Billie kind of way. Melody is nice, really cool chorus. Has a nice feel. Decent but kinda middle of the road-ish. 80/100
Wildflower - Really, really good. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. An emotional highlight. Just stellar, great chorus, great lyrics, great energy. 90/100
The Greatest - Best song on the album IMO, one of the best songs in Billies entire catalogue. Finneas plays this sorta funky guitar riff that plays against the feel in a great way. Billies lyrics are charged and powerful and the chorus is great. The second half of the song is explosive, beautiful and the clear highlight from my pov. Has some Happier Than Ever vibes. 96/100
L’amour de la Vie - Mixed feelings about this one. Some stuff is cool, definitely has some great moments. The second half unexpectedly goes into this really, really trippy synth pop adventure that definitely is not my cup of tea, but it’s creative and interesting and by no accounts bad. First half of the song is quite good. 79/100
The Diner - An interesting song, sort of a victim of strange production though. Really hard to heard anything that’s going on, almost like you’re listening to it from the bottom of a pool. Doesn’t really go anywhere special. Admittedly I can barely hear the lyrics, so maybe it has potential to grow. 70/100
Bittersuite - Maybe it’s just me, but this one totally missed the mark in so many ways. Least favorite on the album by a wide margin, no idea what they were doing. Really long, really boring, kinda meh instrument tones. Really weird synth part at the end. Kinda sounds like some of this might have been improvised. Call my bluff, tell me what I’m missing because it makes no sense to me. 60/100
Blue - Really good closer. Definitely not a standout song, but really mellow and vibey. Vibe matches the album cover perfectly. Almost 6 minutes of just chillin’. 82/100
Only time will tell where this album ranks for me. While the high spots are very high, there were some things that hurt the album from a production standpoint IMO.
My 10 ratings average out to 80/100. I really like it. I think the high moments were stellar but there were a few too many “meh” moments. Not instant love for me, but I think it’s a phenomenal addition to their collection and I’m sure I’ll love it more with time.

2024.05.16 22:16 Musiclover4200 30$ mini theremin (mixer geek)

Been curious about these cheap mini theremins for years, they go for closer to 60$ on most sites but recently found one for 31$ (it was actually 26$ on sale) the reviews on other sites are pretty mixed mostly due to a lack of instructions (this one did come with basic instructions at least) so I was hesitant to order one but after spending some time with it am mostly impressed: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806375688167.html
Here's a video that goes through all the sounds in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svGYV8ZEd00
Some thoughts:
It uses mini antennae so the sensitivity range is relatively small, but it has a lot of settings to tweak the response of both antennae and is fun to play anyways. It does have some basic quantization (just 0-5 settings) but so far it seems to mostly smooth the change in pitch a bit and set to 0 is the classic theremin sound
It has a bunch of sounds, 71 to be exact ranging from basic waves (sine/saw/square) to weirder acoustic sounds. Some are pretty similiar but at least a few were surprisingly impressive/unique, the surf modes are perfect.
Some of the acoustic sounds respond differently with the volume antennae working as a trigger (you have to wave your hand back and forth to trigger notes) while the other controls pitch, takes some getting used to but works pretty well
It even has a tiny built in speaker, the audio/phones out disables it and the vol can be set from 0-99 (I mixed up the antennae/audio out jacks at first and was worried it was broken before double checking)
You can set the base pitch across the full range (c1 to f#7) and it displays the frequency & notes as you play including a keyboard visualization, also has a basic oscilloscope
It doesn't save settings when shut down, but it doesn't take long to tweak the settings though it does have a lot of them. That seems like the main downside so far.
Haven't tried any nicer theremins to compare it to but can tell it will be a lot of fun to use. Got it to run into a semi modular rig and blend with other sounds so the mini size is perfect, will see how sturdy it is as it does seem fragile but for the price you could always build a nicer case for it.
Really the only thing it lacks is delay/reverb, but ran into some FX it would be hard to tell it's a 30$ theremin vs a 300$ one. Might have to buy a second one eventually for dueling theremins, or hell get 4 of them and play 2 with feet.
Side note but might measure the voltage of the audio output, would be cool if you could use it as a CV source to use motion to modulate other signals. Either way definitely recommend it for anyone who's been curious to try a theremin but hesitant to spend too much.

2024.05.16 22:10 urmineccraftgf Could I have changed the outcome of this game?

This was one of those games where I thought for sure we would win. My Hanzo was popping off and the enemy DPS was too busy typing to focus on killing me. I felt I played a very good first round, unfortunately our tank's mouse died so we lost a fight we should've won and didn't push the cart as far as we could've. Second round went much worse. I was dying a lot and we were losing a lot of team fights. I'm honestly not totally sure where I went wrong. I know people say that Mercy is trash this season but I have a 60% WR on her this season so I still feel comfortable playing her when I can. I've gone from Gold 5 to Plat 5 this season and would love to keep that momentum going.
I asked for a VOD review a few months ago and the main feedback I got was poor positioning, risky rezzes, and bad Valk timing and positioning. I do think I've improved a bit in all those aspects! I've noticed I tend to superjump for no reason when I should focus more on slingshotting to cover. I also have a bad habit of taking out my pistol when I should just try to escape/help my team. I'd love to hear what you guys think I should work on.

2024.05.16 21:59 _sonandheir Problems with Sunosi?

tl;dr: Did Sunosi make you feel more sleepy? If you stopped taking it for any reason, did you get bad headaches/body aches or any other side effects/symptoms?
I've been taking 70mg of Vyvanse and 20-40mg of Ritalin as needed for about 4-5 years now, and the combo works "okay". It's kind of manageable, but not great. I tried Wakix for two months in 2022 but it made me depressed, and as I have bipolar II with a history of chronic depression that's a no-go, so I stopped. About four months ago I started Sunosi and was up to 150mg - and it felt like it did nothing to help with the sleepiness/exhaustion, and even seemed to make me feel more sleepy? Like with just the Vyvanse/Ritalin combo I still get sleep attacks where I need to lie down, but I can't actually sleep - I have to just relax as if I'm going to nap for at least 30-45 minutes and then I'm (usually) good to go. But with Sunosi in the mix I would actually fall asleep when I napped during the day and I couldn't nap for anything less than 45 minutes, usually more than an hour, which is not dissimilar to how it was before I took any stimulants. I didn't notice any emotional or mental side effects, pretty much just the sleepiness.
I stopped taking the Sunosi about a week ago to see if it was really making a difference, and now I'm definitely having more headaches/migraines than usual (I have chronic migraines as it is), and my regular medication doesn't always make it stop, but I can't be sure if it's from stopping the med or if my migraines are just acting up. I also felt *really* nauseated yesterday morning and actually had to leave work, and my stomach has felt kind of messed up in general. I do feel a bit less sleepy and foggy during the day, but the headaches really suck, and I feel like my pain levels have been worse in general too.
If you've been on Sunosi did you notice any negative effects (other than agitation)? Did you ever feel more sleepy? And if you stopped it, did you have any "withdrawal" symptoms or negative effects? Everything I've seen says that Sunosi doesn't cause withdrawal issues, but I've had some weird side effects with other meds that supposedly weren't common, so I just don't know.
For context: I have narcolepsy w/o cataplexy, bipolar II disorder, ADHD, chronic migraines, and am being evaluated for Ehler's-Danlos Syndrome. I take 70mg Vyvanse, 20-40mg Ritalin, 300mg of Lamictal, 100mg Zoloft, 10mg Abilify, 5mg rizatriptan as needed and just started Emgality injections for migraines

2024.05.16 21:58 BigGreenThreads60 What small flaws does Explorers of Sky have?

Explorers of Sky is a solid candidate for my favourite video game of all time, but it definitely isn’t without a few small blemishes and things that annoy me. I thought it could be fun to discuss some of the small bugbears that we have with the story, gameplay, and so forth in this otherwise excellent game. Not things which fundamentally destroy the gameplay experience for you, but things that manage to irritate you on each playthrough. The main ones which come to mind for me:
Of course, there’s a lot of other random jank you can discuss with Sky’s battle system, like how options that are relatively unexceptional in the main series (eg. Mirror Move, Smokescreen) are godlike here for no reason. Not to mention the fuckery that is the Speed system, or Silver Wind/Ominous Wind having the potential to raise stats on EVERY HIT. But I honestly don’t mind these elements; I’m used to them at this point, and breaking the game wide open with Cyndaquil or Torchic is really fun. The tradeoff is that sometimes you’ll get unavoidably wiped by Porygon-Z hitting Agility two times in a row and then pressing the funny Discharge button, but that’s just Mystery Dungeon.

2024.05.16 21:56 the1999person AITAH for not wanting to help my neighbor anymore.

On mobile so sorry for the giant block of text and a long ass story.
A few years ago I started cutting our one neighbors grass after her husband died. She pays me a small but fair amount, $25. They're basically family to us, 60yo woman, adult daughter and her 6yo who she has joint custody of. They're not the problem.
The next year after I started cutting Neighbor 1s grass, her next door neighbors son passed away and then her husband six months after that. Neighbor 2 seen me cutting 1s grass and asked if I could do her lawn too. Knowing her situation and her being old and not working I agreed to for again a small fee, $35. Since the yards were connected and I had an old riding mower I figured I cut all the grass at once, mine included and I make an extra $50 a week for mowing grass.
Neighbor 2 has a small above ground pool. A family friend was taking care of it, poorly. So the next year they asked me if I could because you guessed it, I too have a pool. I got an extra $15 for putting chemicals in the pool and vacuuming as needed. This got me up to $50 a week from Neighbor 2 plus the $25 from neighbor 1.
A few weeks ago Neighbor 2 passed away. She has a roommate who lived in the house, basement apartment with her adult mentally disabled daughter. Supposedly Neighbor 2 left the house to her BFF with the stipulation the roommate got to stay since she renovated the basement apartment a few years back when the husband and son died so they could all live together and care for one another.
So this year Neighbor 1 pays me $30 and Neighbor 2 pays $40 because hey inflation and gas prices. With the money I made off them I bought a new Zero Turn riding mower, something I would not have been able to afford without the side hustle of cutting grass.
My wife has been telling me to cut ties all together with Neighbor 2 or demand a real payment for the grass cutting like $60. I also have two boys who sometimes help me to get it done faster but my oldest just got a part time job, but obviously school will be out in a few weeks. My intention of cutting a few yards was to get work for these boys on our street so they could make a few bucks.
Neighbor 2 has the friend who's son half assed the pool a few years back but now they're telling me they don't think he would be available to open the pool because his wife is dying of cancer. I told neighbor 2 I would possibly keep taking care of the pool next year (this summer now) if their family friend opened and closed it.
Neighbor 2, the roommate texted me today asking if I would be opening the pool because family friends wife is very ill. I haven't responded yet.
In addition to my wife telling me to stop being the nice guy and let them pay a real company to handle the pool, I don't think they can afford it. I know, sucks to be them, but I understand the situation and genuinely feel bad and want to be helpful but my time is valuable too so I get her point. Part of me honestly wants nothing to do with the pool. I kinda want to tell them that and say I'll keep cutting the grass but the responsibility of the pool is just too much for me. My oldest doesn't help with ours and I don't trust him enough to put him in charge of their pool and just pay him.
I'm kinda lost over this entire situation. I'm kinda over it too but don't want to be the asshole here.

2024.05.16 21:44 SlashaJones Memories of Battle + I’ve Come For You!

If you approach the Raider at 70% Dragon Change, fight them, and break your barrier before escaping, you gain 60% DC every time you fight the Raider (30% on initial hit, ICFY recovers barrier on transform, 30% on break before escape). Equipping both skills essentially doubles the effectiveness of Memories, so if you’re using Memories, there’s no reason not to use ICFY, too. As long as you can escape from the Raider after breaking your barrier, you’re doubling how much DC you gain back every time you fight.
You could also equip Barrier Auto Recovery, to recover your barrier and some DC between fights. Then run in again at 70%. Although those last 2 passive slots might be better filled by IC, UC, UF, Resistance, etc. Just have to pick up all Barrier Recovery Devices you can find.
I think these 2 skills combined might be one of the most powerful combination of skills in the meta at the moment. Gaining 60% DC every time you fight the Raider is kinda… ridiculous? People initially said to skip this banner, but I think this is one you really don’t want to miss. Especially if you have Memories of Battle.

2024.05.16 21:39 auuop Sony Walkman headphone problem

I have a Sony Walkman (WM 60) and the headphone socket is really sensitive. If I move around too much, or if I touch the volume control even slightly, the sound will flip to only coming out of one ear of the headphones, sometimes different levels in each ear, sometimes weirdly distorted. You then have to very delicately move the volume knob to get it to play back through both. I’m using headphones with 2 bands on the jack which I’ve read is best for older machines. I also sometimes use iPod headphones (with 3 bands on the jack) and they do work but you have to not insert the jack fully. Anyway.. the question is, is this a common problem with the socket and is it worth fixing? It’s fine though, if I sit still, it plays beautifully!

2024.05.16 21:30 MarvelsGrantMan136 Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ - Review Thread

Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megapolis’ - Review Thread
Reviews:
Variety (50):
To call this garish, idea-bloated monstrosity a mere “fable” is to grossly undersell the project’s expansive insights into art, life and legacy.
Hollywood Reporter (60):
It’s windy and overstuffed, frequently baffling and way too talky, quoting Hamlet and The Tempest, Marcus Aurelius and Petrarch, ruminating on time, consciousness and power to a degree that becomes ponderous. But it’s also often amusing, playful, visually dazzling and illuminated by a touching hope for humanity.
Deadline:
Megalopolis represents a rare kind of event movie that reinvents the possibilities of cinema to the extent that, halfway through, there’s a very audacious gimmick that tears down the fourth wall in ways younger filmmakers can only dream of. Coppola breaks many of the cardinal rules of filmmaking in the film’s 138 minutes but it upholds the most important one: it is never, ever boring, and it will inspire just as many artists as the audiences it will alienate.
IndieWire (B+):
With “Megalopolis,” he crams 85 years worth of artistic reverence and romantic love into a clunky, garish, and transcendently sincere manifesto about the role of an artist at the end of an empire. It doesn’t just speak to Coppola’s philosophy, it embodies it to its bones. To quote one of the sharper non-sequiturs from a script that’s swimming in them: “When we leap into the unknown, we prove that we are free.”
The Guardian (2/5):
Francis Ford Coppola’s question – can the US empire last forever? – may be valid but flashes of humour cannot rescue this conspiracy thriller from awful acting and dull effects
LA Times:
In a larger sense, Coppola has moved from the cynicism of his greatest films like “The Conversation” and “Apocalypse Now” — so much power doing so much corrupting — and into something that could fairly be called utopian. I’m not sure if that’s what I want from him as an artist, but I thrill to his unbowed aspiration. He’s not going out with something tame and manicured, but an overstuffed, vigorous, seething story about the roots of fascism that only an uncharitable viewer would call a catastrophe. Rather, it feels like a city. It may be the most radical film he’s ever done. He dedicates it to his late wife, who would have smiled at the evidence of her husband still doing his thing 45 years later.
Rolling Stone (80):
Say what you will about this grand gesture at filtering Edward Gibbon’s history lessons through a lens darkly, it is exactly the movie that Coppola set out to make — uncompromising, uniquely intellectual, unabashedly romantic (upper-case and lower-case R), broadly satirical yet remarkably sincere about wanting not just brave new worlds but better ones.
Vanity Fair:
Megalopolis is too confused a film to make a truly odious or dangerous point. (Though the ending of the Vesta plotline is somewhat alarming.) This is the junkiest of junk-drawer movies, a slapped together hash of Coppola’s many disparate inspirations.
The Telegraph (80):
Aubrey Plaza is fantastic in this full-body sensory bath movie which follows a struggle for power among the elites of New Rome.
Screen Daily (40):
But the amount of stray ideas and themes that are introduced, then abandoned — such as the fact that Cesar has the ability to stop time — leave Megalopolis feeling like an unwieldy mess. Cesar and Cicero’s showdown over New Rome is handled in terribly disjointed ways, and the attempts by supporting characters to grasp power add to the picture’s cluttered construction. In recent years, few auteurs have dreamed as boldly as Coppola has with this film, but some visions, as Megalopolis’ characters discover, are doomed to failure.
The Wrap:
After four decades in the making, “Megalopolis” plays as a frustrating and paradoxical affair. The film is expertly assembled and sleepily directed all at once; it wows with its imagination and erudition all while leaving you little more than bemused.
Collider (4/10):
Much like the city being built in the film, it’s all more interesting in theory than it ever is in actuality. Now that we will all have the chance to take it in for ourselves, the greatest revelation is that there just isn’t that much there to see.
Written and Directed by Francis Ford Coppola:
An accident destroys a decaying metropolis called New Rome. Cesar Catilina, an idealist architect with the power to control time, aims to rebuild it as a sustainable utopia, while his opposition, corrupt Mayor Franklyn Cicero, remains committed to a regressive status quo. Torn between them is Franklyn's socialite daughter, Julia, who, tired of the influence she inherited, searches for her life's meaning.

2024.05.16 21:19 Lucyissnooping Sleeping problems- have you found anything that helps?

Hey fellow audhd pals,
I’m not sure if this is more influenced by autism or my adhd but I know it’s incredibly common for us to have sleep disorders either way. Anyway- my sleeping pattern is atrocious and has been for my whole adult life; I stay up for days at a time to try and get myself tired enough to sleep at night and wake in the morning but it only works for one day and then I’m right back to up all night and sleep in the day. For that one day where I wake up in the morning, let me tell you girl I am UNSTOPPABLE! I get so much done, I feel so good about myself, I workout, I reply to people, make plans and then evening comes and I stay up until 6am and just like that it’s ruined again.
My usual routine is stay awake until my eyes are physically closing and then I’ll just allow myself to sleep. I think it’s the actual act of trying to fall asleep that I hate, just lying down in the dark trying to concentrate on relaxing makes me annoyed and frustrated so instead I stay up until I physically can’t anymore. I hate the whole ‘winding down process’ I don’t want a bath, I don’t want to turn everything off but I know that I should. It’s like being a night kid every night trying to stay up late but the only person I’m disobeying is my own self interest!
This has affected my life in many ways as I’m sure you can imagine- it’s impossible for me to ever have a normal proper job because the lack of sleep or inability to wake up and have a good routine mean I’m late all the time and if I am on time its only because I’ve stayed up all night and then of course I’m exhausted all day and irritable, even when I do this (and I do it a lot) I will return home from work having not slept and I will STILL stay up till 3/4am and then inevitably sleep through my alarm and lose another job. I miss opportunities and social occasions all the time because I sleep through them. It really affects me mentally because I feel like such a loser for not being able to do this super simple thing that everyone else just does naturally, it makes me feel like I’ll never be able to have a proper relationship too because in the past it’s caused lots of problems. They would fall asleep and I’d just sit there all night working myself up, even more so if I was at their place rather than mine because I’ve found other people literally just decide they are going to sleep, turn everything off and then sleep so in these kind of situations I’m just stuck there trying to silently play on my phone or something. Anyway, I think you get it; no sleep= sad 😢 so to stop me rambling on, my point is- have any of you found anything that has helped you maintain a decent sleeping pattern such as- fall asleep around 10-midnight and wake up around 7-9?
Extra context- I take a lot of supplements (suffered with long covid) these supplements are Quercetin, magnesium, medicinal mushrooms, DAO and anti histamines. I also am medicated for my adhd and take vyvanse (the sleeping issues have existed long before the meds so it isn’t that) I would like to try melatonin but we can’t buy it in the UK 🙄
Thanks guys, any advise welcome 💕💖

2024.05.16 21:19 Dependent_0NE_7146 Stopping Prednisone 60MG after 3 days?

37 Male 5'7
150 pounds. No existing medical conditions. No current medications. Don't drink smoke or use any drugs.
I have tinnitus in my left ear for 2 weeks and my ENT wrote a script for prednisone. He will do an MRI if it does not help
60 MG for 3 days
40 MG for 3 days
20 MG for 3 days
I have never had this drug before and I am worried about the side effects I am reading. I am also going to be on vacation when I start it so that sucks. I wanted to wait a week and he doesn't recommend it
If I took it for 3 days and it was terrible, can I just stop at that point, or am I still on the ease off period of the drug? Just curious if 3 days is enough to mess up your body and make it dangerous to just stop it. This is all very stressful
I will of course call him if any issue, but I am very worried. You read horror stories online.
Thank you very much

2024.05.16 21:12 Straight-Manner-2147 What should I do about my mortgage options with a pending layoff? AZ/WA

I find myself in a unique financial situation and would like some advice.
I have listed my condo here in the Washington state, I should see about $125k in cash once the transaction settles in July.
I’ve got about $35k in cash besides that.
I am being put on a 60 day leave prior to being fully laid off on 9/12. At that point I will have an additional infusion of around $45k-$50k, and 50 weeks severances my current salary of $75k. Plus unemployment of $1000 a week.
I am relocating to the Arizona and would like to get a new home lined up and hopefully closed on, prior to me being made officially unemployed. I know I will be seen as more risky once the job ends, but I will have enough cash on hand and coming in through severance and unemployment to be able to pay my mortgage with plenty of cash leftover. This makes me feel better about taking a mortgage at this point. Plus, it shouldn’t take me too long to find a new role. Accountants are always in demand.
Can anyone point out any suggestions or things I need to consider? I will carry medical, dental and life insurance for two years through my current employer.
I’m assuming I shouldn’t tell the mortgage broker that the layoff is coming, I’ve been a remote worker for a few years so I don’t think they will question it too much. Thoughts? Hoping to put $160k-$200k down on a home around $300k.
Hate to rent too long, rent is more than my payments would be.

2024.05.16 21:10 SnooDonuts412 IM DONE WITH TOP LANE.(YES THIS IS A RANT)

I post this just to share my experience and express my own understanding of the game and maybe pick up something new and imrpove my LOL experience.. im gonna put a list of points why top lane is really bad for solo climbing. and to understand why im having a hard time right now..
first https://www.op.gg/summoners/ph/MerKy%20Please-4251 this is my op.gg..
TOP LANE is the worst role in the game right now in solo qeue tie with adc.(its the worst cause its my main)
FIRST and my number one problem is TOP LANE CAN'T CARRY games what ever i do if my team is not winning there is a high chance that we still lose the game cause i cant transfer my lead even if i keep split pushing like 60% of my games my team cant survive or just four man dive enemy cause they lose all theire mental capabilities and flip every fight.
SECOND you cant even influence the map or any obj. cause jungle has too much decision power in the team all you can do is set up your wave and wish that your jungler even ping u up. and losing the abilty to ping jsut fucks up the communication and team playing.
THIRD even if you win lane u cant just go run around the map and help your team cause if ur enemy top laner has a smidge of active braincell they can still capitalize on u roaming while you are fliping your lead this is where champion like jax fiora gwen shine. this why i like enemy laner like malphite and ornn cause even if they hard counter my picks like riven irellia i can still find windows and gaps as they have to roam and its just a knowledge check for your 4 headless chicken of a team.
FOURTH top lane is a counter meta hell I got 1m points on Riven so i experienced a lot i mean a lot of match up. but right now is one of the worst especially with the introduction of this damage meta in like season 10. before u can still skill check champ like renekton darius voli yes you cant win straight up but they still dont out scale outdamage and outsustain you and out teamfight you. and with riven team fighting is where you really scale.
and i still has a lot on my mind but its getting too long so heres the last part and wear your tinfoil hat.
RIOT removed skill expression for REASONS. Im always a micro guy (you can look at my champion picks.) So riot saying we cant work on this champion cause good player can abuse it. its like you puting in the work and time to master and riot saying nah we dont do SKILL HERE. and people will say SKILL ISSUE like LOL RIOT REMOVED that right??.
