2024.05.29 04:54 Ok_Arrival4676 Rawlings Scholar if I apply ED??

The Hunter Rawlings Presidential Research Scholar program looks really cool, but I’ve seen a lot online about how these types of awards are only given to regular decision applicants as a way of pursuading them to come.
I’ve heard ED admits effectively never get these merit scholarships, but is it true?

2024.05.29 04:45 Difficult-Feed-3303 SUNY Farmingdale

Has anyone in state attended suny Farmingdale for their pro-flight program. I was wondering the cost in state for this program? Also do you think it’s worth it to get an aviation degree if I’m in state at a suny, hopefully this cost will be significantly lower than going to a big private university like embry riddle. Does Farmingdale get you enough hours, can you fly over the summer? If the tuition is affordable after aid or scholarships is it worth getting this degree, I’m going to college either way and want to the quickest and way to get into a major airline? Are there any other routes I should be considering?

2024.05.29 04:40 Doggooneoon3 Low GPA, could I still get into a masters program in this field

Repost from the grad admission,
Exactly what the title says. I finished my undergraduate degree in December with a BS in Natural Resources, concentrating in wildlife. I'm taking a gap year before returning next year, but I'm hesitant about applying for a master's program. My GPA is 2.9, which isn't the ideal 3.0. However, I have been successful in research, participating in summer research experiences for three consecutive summers (a field technician job and two REUs).
Academics have been challenging for me due to my learning disability and mental health issues, which I only received help for in my final semester, too late to significantly improve my GPA. If I had known about accommodations earlier, I believe I would have performed better. I entered my bachelor's program with an associate's degree straight out of high school, which felt rushed because my initial scholarship covered only two years. Fortunately, I received additional financial aid.
As a first-generation Latina interested and passionate in the field of wildlife, wanting to pursue a master's degree feels daunting and isolating. Ultimately, I aim to earn a PhD, but I want to start with a master's degree. Although I don't have any publications yet, I am working on one from a completed research project with my PI. I have presented my work at national conferences and symposiums and have conducted extensive undergraduate research.
I am passionate about wildlife biology, marine biology, and ecology, specifically in conservation and management. However, I don't have the funds for a master's program and am unsure where to apply or seek guidance. Any advice on schools or faculty who could guide me in this field would be greatly appreciated. Any insight of my situation too would be great. I want to know as I’m taking this gap year, how should I make a use of my time as I await hearing back from technician jobs and ultimately wait for a rejection since that’s how it’s been. However, thanks!

2024.05.29 04:19 jinxedcx Am I a bad sister to my brother?

Hi!
After trying to convince him so many times, nag give up na ako. Hinayaan ko sya.
After several mos. after graduation, nagdecide sya na pumunta sa city (probinsya kami nakatira) dahil yung mga barkada niya ay mag aapply daw ng merchandiser sa Gaisano. Yung desisyon niyang yun, agad-agad.
Pero kami yung nahiya since pala absent at nagresign after 2mos.
Valid ba tong nararamdaman kong inis?

So far I just know that you need to give GAT and qiyas test. Is there some sort of 40 hours volunteer work required too? I would really appreciate if anybody could advise me about this, I want to go into IT.

2024.05.29 03:04 Commercial-Two1743 Opinions on Engineering Physics or Space Physics

My son is a HS senior in FL. He'll be receiving the bright futures scholarship, so for that reason and more, we're wanting him to earn his BS in Florida.
He's highly interested in experimental physics, quantum computing, space, and particle physics. He's interested in engineering, too, just not as much as physics.
We've done a lot of research on ERAU-DB and the campus sounds like a great fit for him. I just have a few questions about the Engineering Physics and Space Physics majors...
  1. What kind of research opportunities are there? Do the students get hands on experience?
  2. Where do most students intern or work, post-graduation?
  3. Are there any programming languages he should learn beforehand?
  4. Are there any affiliations with the DOE national labs? Would you recommend ERAU if he wants to work for DOE?
  5. Are students within these majors generally happy?
  6. Which classes were the most stressful?
Whether you took these majors or had a friend who did, I will greatly appreciate your feedback.
Thanks All! 😊

2024.05.29 02:21 Mediocre_Village8607 12 yo daughter in trouble with RCMP. Am I doing too much or not enough?

My daughter is facing juvenile charges of trespassing and criminal mischief. She has been ID’d on surveillance and no doubt it is her. It happened while she was at her first sleepover that I didn’t host.
I thought keeping her active 6-7 nights a week with sports would keep her out of trouble. She is a phenomenal athlete, speaks 2 languages and gets honours. She most definitely has an authority problem but I followed the “if they are always busy they can’t get into trouble” philosophy and I was apparently wrong.
I have taken away all technology, grounded her to our property and free time without an end date, made it clear she will be chaperoned when we do let her off grounding for the foreseeable future, signed her up for the community service program on her weekly free day, and made an appointment to make a personal apology with amends.
I am also considering pulling her from her competitive sports. My partner says this would be too far since our daughter worked very hard to be good enough for the team and finally made it through tryouts after not making the team last year. My partner also says that it would leave her feeling resentful, that she may not make the team again if I force her to take the season off and with too much free time over the summer. I feel like it would be a severe consequence to her actions that might be just what she needs.
I want this experience to be the first and last of its kind, I want her to understand the gravity of her actions. I know from experience that the juvenile system puts the burden on parents (usually monetary) and she might feel like she got away with it.
I really need her to take this situation seriously but I also don’t want to make her feel like she’s done something unforgivable. I have my own baggage that makes me second guess myself, I know I’m a strict parent and I can be too harsh in my consequences sometimes. I just want to raise my children to take accountability, be honest role models and productive members of society.
Have I done enough? Have I done too much? My mom brain is second guessing everything. Any advice or moral support would be appreciated.
Edit: I feel like my partner and comments are right and taking away her sports would do more harm and not teaching the lessons I want to be. *I’m also not as worked up. I posted right after leaving the station and was emotional and freaking out. She has never done anything like this before.
I also feel like I have to explain her extracurricular activities better. My daughter is on a highly competitive Tier 1 team that has some of the best coaches around + international coaching opportunities. She is on a provincial athletics track team that she trains and competes for, to make it to nationals in the coming years. She is also on a slightly less competitive cross country team that trains and competes August- whenever the snow sets in. None of the teams she is on are school or even town related. We are lucky enough to live within commuting distance of a major city that offers these opportunities. I don’t mind driving so long as her grades are good and she’s committed.
Her #1 passion in life is running. All her extra curricular sports are great paths to grants and scholarships to what ever secondary school she might choose. I have never pushed her to be competitive, there are many different teams and ranks, all requiring different skill levels and time commitments. My daughter is extremely competitive and determined to be the best/train with the best. She was the same way with gymnastics (which she didn’t even like).
I guess her 120% mindset was harnessed for mischief this time. This kid doesn’t do anything in half measures.

2024.05.29 02:16 Cmdoch Finance in Oil and Gas. My Reply to the Questions!

Right everyone, I must thank the literal hundreds of people who have DM’d me off the back of a couple of comments I’ve made the last few days on posts! I'm hoping that this post will give a bit of clarity to the people who have asked me questions! Also, must apologise I am dyslexic so please give me a break if my punctuation is off haha.
Background -
In 2021 I got an internship at JPM, did a great job and was offered a role on the graduate scheme. I worked in investment services and quickly found out jpm is such a well-oiled machine that there is a team for every single layer of the department. I was placed in Investment services but in the projects team which I wasn’t interested in and was told to work in the market stuff I’d have to grind for 3-4 years. Just FYI I wanted to get into high finance, more specifically trading but knew it would be mega competitive so thought I'd get my foot in the door by going into the support functions.
I loved my time at JPM and I met such awesome people there but there was always something about the rest of my cohort that I just couldn’t gel with. I'm from a working-class family and saw my parents struggle a lot when I was younger. I watched my dad slowly deteriorate until he had a full-blown mental breakdown and never got help for it after and my mother had been on antidepressants since her brother killed himself like 20 years ago and thought she could occasionally come off the tablets which made the home environment real tough. I also don’t have siblings or cousins so I felt so alone during those times. Going back to the people their troubles were so much different to mine and I found it hard to fit in with their lifestyles. ( this is important later).
Anyway, looking into how I could transfer my skills while getting exposure to what I wanted to do which was market work I found out that large industries which have business all over the world require a lot of different currencies, which brought me to oil and gas. I started researching different functions within the industry and found that two very specific departments would offer me that exposure!
Treasury-
looking after the company's cash levels and supplying different currencies when required. This role was marketed to me as a varied role which included FX, market and economic analysis. This would then be used to make decisions on when to purchase, sell or hedge a certain currency. It also involves M&A, board-level presentations and pitches.
Corporate Development -
they look at M&A opportunities constantly, they also look at asset management and can put forward option contracts to different companies for rights to drill in a certain well in exchange for that company getting to drill in their well for some time. Or even simpler. Both companies stay in their wells and just option their revenue for that well. They also work on competitor analysis for earnings calls and shareholder meetings.
I was offered the role of treasury analyst one year ago and have never looked back! I have in the last year worked on Fx, market and economic analysis, trading FX, Hedging FX, and Options, and even been part of a billion-pound merger. All of this with just 1.5 years of experience! I literally would have never gotten this experience if I had stayed at JPM as I'd have been stuck in one team doing one of those functions.
What people have been asking
Where do I live?
I currently live in Aberdeen, Scotland. Aberdeen is one of the O&G capitals of the world with every big name you can think of having a head office of sorts here. We also have thousands of other O&G companies you will have never heard of. Aberdeen is also home to the Big 4 accounting and Big 4 law firms. Several investment banks, wealth management, asset management and pension firms.
Why do I live in Aberdeen?
I was born here and saw what riches the O&G industry could give people. What is also a great opportunity with Aberdeen is that there is a serious shortage of people to work in these firms because the media has been stating for years and years “just five more years left in the oil industry”. This means that you can leverage much higher wages. I’m currently earning well over the national average wage with 2.5 years of experience and could leave my firm tomorrow and get a 10% pay rise down the road.
Another reason. Property is very very cheap here. With the oil boom from the 80’s to 2010 hundreds of thousands of properties were built here and in 2015 people were paying 300,400,500k just for an average flat/apartment because there was so much demand. However, in 2016 there was a huge oil crash and there were thousands of redundancies. This scared off the youth to safer industries. However, this means that there are more properties than people who want to buy at the moment I recently at 26 just bought a two-bed, 70 sqm flat for 113k in the west end next to Michelin-star restaurants, high-class wine bars and that sort of scene. I'm betting the house that Aberdeen makes its return with the renewable sector as well as the oil market growing further. Recently Aberdeen was selected to have the world's largest floating wind farm built starting in the next few years. That is thousands of jobs, people moving here for the construction and then the maintenance. There is also an energy plant being built 35 miles away which needs another 11k people to operate it.
Schedule and benefits -
I work 37.5 hours per week, 8 am - 5 pm mon-thur and 9-1 pm Friday.
35 days holiday plus a further 5 days at Xmas and new year
All health benefits included
8.5% pension from employer and I add 1.5% also.
Wages are different everywhere but as someone junior, I make more than I did in banking.
I go to the office 2/3 days per week
How I got the job -
I had random recruiters message me which prompted me to look into other recruitment firms and apply for every single one of them in my city. They promptly set up calls with me and then I proceeded to get applications left right and centre.
Qualifications -
I have an undergraduate degree in finance and real estate and a diploma in law. However, all qualifications are considered.
What roles should you look for that cover trading, derivatives and M&A-
The two departments you will find these roles and Treasury and Corporate Development
The roles to look for are Treasury, market, financial, finance, and data analyst.
Extra tip - a lot of O&G companies have not changed title names for years like since the 80’s. So look for titles with assistants in them, they are referring to analysts. Once you’re in our you can get her to alter your title. Mine was an accounting assistant. I then got a treasury analyst. My role has nothing to do with accounting.
What other roles are there in O&G?-
Well, there are two sectors onshore and offshore. Onshore is office-based and offshore is site-based.
Onshore you have finance, treasury, CD, tax, legal, audit, accounts, and sales. All that sort of business. I will also say Audit is another interesting one. One of my mates is constantly setting off to Dubai, Saudi, Oman, Chile, Colombia, and Peru all for work, all business class and all 4-5 star hotels (unless they are on base).
Offshore you have account controllers, finance managers, and rig supervisors. You can see for yourself online. These lots get paid extremely well. 3-4 times what you get onshore, however you will live on a boat or an oil rig for 6 months a year, but get the other 6 months at home without having to work.
What companies to look for -
I'd stay clear of the huge firms, they will be the same as banking. A team working on one specific area in the department so your exposure will be much less. Look for small to mid-sized firms. I'm at s small/mid firm with 11k employees and a revenue of around 3 billion per year.
Genuinely, you don’t need to look for the companies, the companies will look for you if you get with a recruiter.
What level can you come in at -
Most places offer internships, grad programs, junior roles, mid roles and senior roles. One of my mates was a manager at a coffee shop for 5 years and did an accelerated uni course to get the minimum qualifications to get an interview. He now tenders bids for international contracts. They love a career switch because you’re fresh and not burnt out! If you can show you can handle your workload and think you’re a good fit you will find a job.
What If I think my finance background isn’t relevant (insurance) -
Whatever you think about your background you can spin it on your CV. I’m not talking about lying but just making the bits which are more important prettier. Most corporate functions are the same. Can you time keep? Can you juggle multiple jobs? Hit deadlines etc. If you can you then apply! Explain you have had an interest for some time and that you want to make a career switch. Then list your strengths and apply them to the role! You will be successful if you want it.
Are there many trading opportunities in this industry? -
Yes and No. The larger firms will likely have full teams like in banks, sitting in London. They will have an fx team, commodity team, derivative team etc. They will be revenue-driving teams! Whereas small to medium-sized firms will have one/two departments doing all of the above but trading for risk mitigation. This means that there is severely less stress on the team to lock in trades! However, you still get the same experience as the market lot but can enjoy your life! Haha. Smaller companies might not be able to fulfil this sort of role and will likely just take losses on straight trades.
Do I need to know about oil and gas to get a job in the industry? -
NO! I knew nothing before joining. I knew about finance and that was that. However, after a year of being there, I have picked up so much to do with the industry. So moving forward if I go to PE or something I will bring banking, trading and energy knowledge which is more than someone who works on the markets desk at JPM.
Can I move to Aberdeen from a different country? -
Yes! And I'd encourage it. In Aberdeen, we have large communities of Americans, Canadians southern Americans, Europeans, Africans, and middle eastern ppl. There is a huge emphasis on bringing outside talent to the city and we have a great integrated and diverse city. I say it like that because I know in larger cities there can be a lot of segregation of certain races and communities. However, in Aberdeen, there is a greater tolerance for internationals because we all bring something different to the table. The people I have met on nights out have been incredible. Helicopter pilots from Nigeria, underwater welders from Peru, and ultra depth divers from iceland. Its a one in a million place where everyone gets along and everyone makes a shit land of money so there is no divide! 2024.05.29 02:04 Stock_Butterscotch71 20 getting my Masters in Entrepreneurship- I feel a bit lost

Like many of you in here- you’re the first to go to college. Same.
Some people think my degree is stupid - it’s like an MBA- but I’m not staying for the degree.
I’m self employed- hence the major. But I’m staying for more research, study abroad, and grant opportunities.
My masters program can be condensed into one year- so what should I do in grad school that can benefit my professional life?
I am a business consultant- but wouldn’t mind working for a larger consultancy to improve my skills and qualifications.
I am writing an undergrad research thesis- I’ve been to conferences and I love it.
I have not studied abroad yet- and I have applied to 20 fellowships and got a few- but I really want the CLS (Critical Language Scholarship) I love endangered languages; Bright Futures (my mentor revived it twice), and the Actions in Humanity Fellowship.
I’m not formally in the honors college actually- and I don’t have many awards really- more so real life experiences and personal accomplishments - so idk why I’m not getting those fellowships.
Also- I wish I had more time to plan for grad school: some of my friends who are also 20 and going to grad school applied abroad and got accepted- but they want to be lawyers and doctors.
Ngl this was a last minute decision as of seven months ago- and by the time I accepted I wanted to go to grad school- most grad applications closed for transfers.
Sooooo- what can I do? Any advice?

2024.05.29 01:50 alaralpaca USC (BS global health) or UNLV (BS public health, in-state)

Hey all, I’m from Las Vegas, NV, and was recently admitted to USC for Spring 2025. I would be receiving the presidential scholarship for being a National Merit Finalist, bringing down my tuition cost by 50%, but that’s still $35K a year plus the other costs like housing and what not. The aid I’m receiving is likely not going to surpass 50% tuition, so the scholarship will replace whatever gift aid I’m getting, essentially.
Meanwhile, at UNLV, I’d be receiving $17.5k in total scholarship money on a tuition of around $9K, which means I’d get refunded for the excess amount. I’d literally be making a profit by going there and staying with my family.
I’m torn. USC has been my dream for a while, and I absolutely fell in love with it when I visited for the open house back in October. I also think USC has a great program and great resources for Global Health in particular, and comes with the perk of being located in Los Angeles, obviously. But UNLV, strictly from a financial perspective, is the obviously better choice. In your biased opinions, is USC truly worth the investment? Both are R1 research institutions, but UNLV’s reputation can’t even compare with USC. Plus, I’m not looking to stay in Las Vegas for my graduate degree if I pursue one, or for my career / the rest of my life. I am looking to leave eventually, but I’m not sure if I’m 100% ready to leave right now (but how can one truly be ready until they force themselves to break out of their comfort zone?).
Thanks for the insight in advance. ❤️💛

2024.05.29 01:39 Sweaty-Piccolo-1971 University suggestions for an English major? More details below

hey guys! I graduated from high school in the USA and completed my IB diploma exams recently - May 2024 here. I’m taking a gap year because I may be moving soon to my home country due to visa expiration.
The problem is that English is not the native language in my country and I want to study English… So I think it would be more rewarding for my education to study abroad in countries that have good programs for an English degree.
Another issue is that I come from a pretty big family and we don’t have a lot of money. Researching universities in the US ever since I graduated has been overwhelming and frustrating because I don’t have enough for the expected family contribution (EFC) :( I won a scholarship from school but it’s not enough for US education.
So here I am. Looking for any uni suggestions across Europe, Asia, or Australia for an English degree, but is also not expensive. If it’s relevant, I’m predicted a 6 in English lit.

2024.05.29 01:30 su_ng Big Bang Theory Scholarship

I am a newly admitted student and was just accepted into this scholarship, but it says there is a mandatory summer bridge program. I had already applied for the FSP, and I think it aligns with the program. I'm not sure when the dates for the bridge program are because there isn't any information available. I was wondering if anyone who previously received this scholarship has any information on it, as I don't know what I need to do.

2024.05.29 01:13 eatdreambbq Online school is out of state, cant earn scholarships.

Hi! Do to a really unfortunate house location and home situations, I enrolled at USCI(United States Career Institute), Its a accredited work at your own pace high school program, however its not based in Tennessee which is where I live. Due to this I can't apply for Tennessee's scholarships. Is there anything I can do besides switching schools?

2024.05.29 00:55 shepdavila Opinions on Erasmus Mundus in Big Cities (EMJMD)?

Hey y’all! I’m starting an Erasmus Mundus program in September with a scholarship. The mobility is Paris->Pavia (Italy) -> Patras (Greece).
A lot of the bad experiences I read here have to do either with (a) going to small towns in boring countries and (b) going to shitty universities. I perceive that small towns usually result in populations with little to no diversity + conservative paradigms, while shitty universities result in disorganized programs, etc.
If you had to guess, what kind of experience do you think is awaiting for me?
I’ve been to Paris multiple times and been able to make friends (even with local Parisians from the 16th district, aka the very posh district of the city). Pavia is 30 minutes away from beautiful Milano, and Patras seems to be a lovely coastal city in the Mediterranean with awesome weather.
Opinions?

2024.05.29 00:23 Impressive-Wolf9366 College Advice Needed!

Hello! I’m facing a dilemma currently and would like to get some opinions, if possible.
I want to become a Registered Nurse. I’ve completed 1 1/2 years of college at Cornell University, I was on the pre-med track. I’m currently on a leave of absence due to mental health and financial issues. P.S I’m all good now (:
I received a full ride / full scholarship to Cornell, but I’ve changed my mind about what career I want to pursue (I decided on Nursing). However, Cornell does not have a nursing program or major.
My options currently are 1. Continue at Cornell and study Psychology and then continue to an accelerated BSN program. OR 2. Apply to a college in my hometown/NYC (Hunter or BMCC ) and start from scratch (4yrs) & get a bachelors in nursing…
I’m not sure the weight that a degree from an Ivy League holds in this field.. & I don’t know if it’s worth the extra time / effort to do an accelerated program afterwards.
What do you think?

2024.05.28 23:40 Astromillius 18M [M4F] Pennsylvania / Anywhere - I have Cancer and im looking for a genuine long term relationship with someone. Dating has been difficult since being diagnosed with Leukemia.

Sup! I just want to start by saying I have Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. I will explain more in the rest of my post, but I wanted to say that for the sake of transparency before saying anything else so that you are aware ahead of time.
Also here is what I look like for anyone who may be curious. - Please also send a photo of your face.
A bit about me:
I am 18 and will be turning 19 in 4 days. I am from Pennsylvania. Someone from a leukemia support subreddit messaged me and reccomending I try to make a post here given my situation, so I figured id give it a shot.
I graduated from highschool early because I was in an accelerated scholarship program at a college in my area during highschool. I went there full time taking college level classes for both college and highschool credit. I am now about to go to a different college in the Fall through another scholarship I got through the Make-A-Wish Foundation so that I can get a certificate to run the Charity that im starting.
I used my Make-A-Wish Foundation wish to start a cancer related charity to help other Leukemia Patients. (Charity work is actually my biggest passion atm.)
I love film, art, and pretty much anything involving the creative field! I have a ton of passion for the creative process of making movies, shows, and other creative works. I work within the creative industry so I get to be very heavily involved in the process and have had the honor and priviledge of working with so many extremely talented artists over the years. Its another thing I am very passioniate about and its a job I absolutely love. I honestly wouldn't choose any other job if I had the choice, especially because I've been lucky enough to get it at such a young age.
As a result of my passion for filmmaking, I watch A LOT of them. My favorite film of all time is actually a South Korean film called Old Boy. Psychological thrillers are actually my favorite film genre (and dont tell anyone I told you this) but I personally think South Korea makes if not the best ones some of the best ones. Old Boy may not entirely be a Psychological Thriller but it definitely is an amazing Thriller that mixes comedy, action, cinematography, and narrative together very well. It also has the craziest twist I have ever seen in any movie. I consider it the gold standard when it comes to good films. But anyways, enough of me nerding out about cinema, I could go on for hours lmao
I also really enjoy singing! I do not have any actual vocal coaching or training so I am still a bit of a beginner. But I recently started this series where Ive been singing song covers with each cover I do going towards promoting and bringing awareness to different cancer charities to try and raise funds for them and help give back to the community.
In my sparetime, I also enjoy playing videogames, cooking, and mens fashion (im addicted to suits I own 8 and 2 tuxes lmao).
I am really just hoping to find someone also looking for a genuine long term relationship. Ive had so many people write me off before even getting to know me just because of my cancer. Pretty much leaving the moment they learn about it (its usually the first thing I mention, I try to be as transparent about it as possible). I am hoping to meet someone that I can spend time with on the good days and bad ones, have fun with, and treat with the same kindness and love that I would hope they would also treat me with. I want someone that would be willing to give me a chance despite my illness.
Anyways, I should probably address the elephant in the room. I have Leukemia. Specifically a form of Leukemia called Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. I've had it since I was 16. From what I've been told, its never really going to fully go away. It shouldnt kill me, but it does definitely have a significant effect on my life and what I can and cannnot do.
Ive gotten to a really good point in my life recently in an effort to no longer let it limit me. After losing a ton of weight from my meds I started working out and changed my diet significantly increasing the amount of calories I consume, and I am also being proactive to do whatever I can reccomendation to me by my doctors to improve my health as much as I can.
I will be getting on an NG Tube soon, its something I personally didnt want to do. But my doctors believe it can also help with my weight gain and make my life easier overall, so though its inconvienient its the best thing I can do for my health and its temporary anyway. In addition to that I also am currently working on getting on medical marijuana to help with my nausea.
As of now (and my doctors agree) I have done and continue to do everything I can to improve my health as much as I will be able to. They have told me they are umable to change my meds despite the fact they have very bad side effects. As mentioned before, my form of cancer is also a chronic illness meaning it will never fully go away. I will never have a fully normal life and recently this is something Ive accepted. Rather than letting it limit me I am still doing everything I can to live life despite the hurdles this illness creates. I recognize that life has just given me a bad hand. But I still plan to live life to the fullest despite this fact. I do not plan on giving up just because of these hurdles. These hurdles are not going away, or if they do It wont be happening anytime soon.
I guess that last part leads perfectly into why dating has been difficult for me up until now. First of all, I will not go into all of the bad experiences I've had. But something I've had to learn the hard way over the last 2 years is that most people (at least in my experience so far) do not want to date someone with cancer because they will see you as a burden. I once was with someone who broke up with me out of nowhere without an explaination. She returned months later only to tell me when I asked why she left "I broke up with you because you have cancer." Which was shocking to say the very least. 💀 - As much as I wish I could say this wasn't a common occurance. The example I just provided is the most tame experience I've had. I try not to let my illness define me, and especially do everything in my power to avoid it having a significant affect on my relationships.
Aside from the fact people just do not want to date someone a person with cancer. I guess its also worth mentioning that I have a lot of negative side effects to my cancer meds. Some of these side effects can be quite limiting unfortunately even despite my best efforts recently to not let them be. But as I said, my doctors refuse to change my meds so these side effects are unfortunately unavoidable for me and not going anywhere.
Some of these side effects are things like nausea, abdomine pain, lack of apetite, everything I eat makes me sick, etc. I am on every possible nausea med I can be on and I haven't had the best luck which is why im going further and taking matters into my own hands by trying medical marijuana since I've tried everything else.
Its also why im getting on the NG Tube and have changed my diet. Right now I am doing everything I can to overcome most of my hurdles. My meds and cancer also give me a pretty weak immune system so I have to try to avoid getting covid and other infections when in public which also can have a small affect on things but its pretty easy for me to just wear a mask and avoid eating in super crowded areas. Still something I felt worth bringing up though is that my cancer meds have also affected my bone density making it lower so im 2-3x more likely to break bones. This also doesnt really have as much of an affect on things. I only bring it up incase it ever comes up or is relevant. So far I haven't broken a bone because of it lol
I would say the biggest thing that will likely be a dealbreaker for most is I am currently in the process of getting my permit and learning to drive. I was diagnosed with Leukemia around the time I was supposed to be learning and was in and out of the hospital a ton and dealing with the worst side effects possible of my last cancer med since this was the same time as my intitial diagnosis. So if I do meet you irl I will have to either use uber or be a Passenger Prince for the moment 💀
You miss every shot you dont take. 🤷🏽‍♂️ So I figured I would try this out and see what happens, if you are kind enough to give me a shot despite my illness. Well first of all thank you you are amazing! And second of all I look forward to meeting you and learning more about you. 💜

2024.05.28 22:58 Necessary_Earth2752 What car should I get around 30k-ish OTD?

Hi, so I have been rocking my 2007 Mazda 3 2.0L for about 8 years now, and before that, a family member had it for 3 years. Its got 215k miles, and if you know about first gen Mazda 3s, they get lighter with age. Literally. rust be darned. The car still runs, I am diligent with maintenance, and DIY whatever I can with the basic tools I have. RockAuto is my bestie. I cannot, however, replace the trailing arm bushing as it's beyond my capabilities.
I will be beginning a 3 year medical graduate program starting this summer. I'll earn about 64k, but after that 3 year period, I suppose, I'd be in a more comfortable position. I have a shared home loan with my spouse, about 1k/month commitment for home and utilities. I received scholarships and have about 14k in my student loans. I do not have kids, but I have 2 medium sized breed dogs (but my spouse has a SUV)
Now, this whole process to become a medical grad was tedious, expensive and painful. I thought I'd want to have something nice for myself for once. I have been frugal for most of my adult life, and still am.
I do love cars, but I won't spend money for the sake of having a badge (eg: BMW x1)
I live in the midwest but in a city so AWD is nice, but I've been doing just fine with my 148hp FWD Mazda 3 all these years.
I do want some niceties, such as the following:
Apple carplay - memory seats - heated seats - at least 32MPG combined - leatheleatherette - nice audio system
I also can drive stick or auto.
I also drive like a grandma. Efficiency give me a hard-on.
Here is what I was looking at, and the list is extensive, to which, I apologize.
Fun-ish cars: 19' Mazda Mx-5 ND2, 23' Acura Integra MT, 23' Mazda 3 HB Carbon
Practical Cars: 21' Mazda CX-5 NA, 19' Lexus ES300h, 20' Toyota Avalon Hybrid, 25' Toyota Camry LE
Honestly, I'm open to suggestions. It's going to be my daily.
Ps: I plan to keep my old Mazda 3 as well until the axles fails inevitably. It'll be local, for use around town.
TL:DR
Want new/used somewhat fun reliable car around 30k. Want Apple carplay - memory seats - heated seats - at least 32MPG combined - leatheleatherette - nice audio system.
