2024.06.09 11:14 meitsadavdavidbingss The ultimate deepwoken rant

First off sorry for any spelling errors , i am typeing this on a whim and dont have time to go thru again , i know english i promise . Well where do i even begin with this mess , first lets get roblox jank , gliches , bugs and cheat detection out the way sience thats not up to them . The moderation team fucking sucks at doing their job , if you submit a ticket with proof and all theres about a 90% chance they will decline you without looking at it but its ok , i can deal with that , the biggestthey also abuse their powers (especially in chmie) going in with all kind of unobtainable weapons and enchants , imo that is not ok not to mention those weapons and enchants are absolutely busted , they should be balanced accordingly and made obtainable and while im at it i would like to mention not being able to get lightborn is some real bs , i wish they would maybe hold a tournament between the top 20 chime players that dont have lb or something weekly so that theres an actual way to get it if you work hard , that would be sick but no , they cant spare 30 minutes a week to do something like this for us . And regarding races why the fuck is there no way to reroll races without useing robux ? Like lemme reroll with echos or knowledge at a shrine or something , anything , and also the races are not balanced accordingly and matter very little , they should have tallents that actually change combat , like etreans are suposed to be imune to acid , well thats not the case cuz they cant properly code , they are also meant to get less time on buffs and debuffs , thats also not the case . If it was however for example that would be very cool , you could pull some fun stuff with poison , ignore charm debuffs , not need strong stern or mayne run into a pocket of acid when low but no cause we cant have nice shit can we? And now regarding slots i fullheartedly believe they should give you 3 or maybe even 5 starting out , i guess you can buy them and they are dirt cheap but i still feel like its a very greedy move seen as you need a minimum of 3 to you know , actually play. With revives i also have no problem except that you cant revive without robux . Like maybe let me ask yun shul to give me another shot in fragments and i can use statue for free , or maybe when u max rep with celtor , or for 500 echos , anything really . Some more boring stuff out the way , the activities like fishing mineing and choping trees have no point as the rewards are not worth the time at all , characters are 1 dimensional and only serve to die or give you something for the sake of progressing plot , the world feels dead , the ai is trash and theres way too much chesse . Balance i wont even commeont on , you know it , i know it , its absolute dogshit and thats not gonna change , they claim to revisit the broken stuff and want to rework it ? Yeah right just like you did to jetstriker , i mean its not bad its much better than before but they missed the silver lineing , fighting jetstriker sucked not only because the opponent could run away , it sucked cuz he could just keep you at mid range , use gale and thunder to poke you down with little counterplay if you are not a mage silentheart or blindseer , guess what ? Thats still a problem . The weapons are extremely unballanced as well and so are the atunements mantras and enchants equipment and everything else , if they cared to fix it it would take well over a month of actual daily balance changes not the bullshit they are doing now . Pvp is curently in a 1 shot meta , chime , guildwars , voidwalking , doesent matter the fight always ends in less than 30 seconds thanks to chesse , the infamous ragdoll into bomb that has no counteplay , potions and assassin builds (dont get me wrong im an assassin build enthusiast myself but they are FAR too busted in this game like wtf) . Pve is boring too , everything is eighter easy or unfair , its all easy except for the ocasional stat sponge like a kyrsgarde gangbang or broodlord that do over 1 bar per hit and have as much hp as duke . Theres nothing fun to do except combat , the world feels dead and so very lackluster and boring , the lore sucks sience its not expanded on , altough a great concept . Now lets talk about vw , as a vw myself i dont think it should take a life when the voidwalker kills you , like you die and lose your stuff but you dont get stained for example , but i dont think it should be the same for when you kill the vw sience then he could just level without consequence , vw should also not be able to take bounties on ppl with more than 3 level diffrence up or down and shouldnt be allowed to do to1 , instead their first 5 bounties give 2 levels each if successful , and they should also get like a damage taken from mobs multiplier till max lvl so that you get dettured from pve , that would be great. also i think u should be able to get the tracking outline beep ocasionally on all bounties , not just voidwalk , like do a quest for it and then get it on the slot .that would not make it go to origin , now regarding origins they all have little going for them atm theres no reason to not pick deluvian for pve and vw for anything else . Also we need more goddamn origins like some that start in layer 2 at lvl 10 and you need to kill chaser or start fort merit at lvl 6 or start in voidsea , meteor isle , hive , stuff like that would be so sick but no instead we get ysleys pyre that has 5 crits and 2 passives that all have the special effect of makeing you want to kill yourself . I could talk about so many more issues like no new luminant , no layer 3 for 2 years or no more lore being dropped but ass of now if they could fix all of this by the end of the year i would be ecstatic and truly greatful , its seems they cant and wont learn , they are leting the flame of this game burn out just like they did to rogue a good bit ago . All it needs is a litlle kindeling wich given how much money they have and how many talented pepole wouldnt turn them down should take them a mere 2 months if even that , but then again ragoozer and archmage dont give a shit. Also we love you naktigonis , your music is unreal.

2024.06.09 10:45 Prof_Lego I fucking love this game

I recently bought the DLCs for the game and played through Automatron today. I also love to use the Silver Shroud armor, because it looks awesome and the stats aren't horrible once Kent Connoly upgraded it all the way, and whilst tracking down the mechanist and going through their lair I thought to myself "This kinda feels like something the actual Silver Shroud might encounter lol" and lo and behold: I could actually speak to the mechanist as the Silver Shroud! I didn't know the SS had any dialogue outside his own questline, so this made the DLC even better for me

2024.06.09 10:43 Medical-Ad-1931 17 year old, need advice.

I'm nearing the end of tutorial mode and about to graduate high school, and it dawned on me that I should probably fix a couple flaws I've got and I was hoping for some insight into what other ENTPs had to say.
There will be some off loading of trash that has been in my head for a while and just going to be honest with all the ugly thoughts I have, as ruminating with these thoughts without ever sharing them and letting them run rampant is going literally make me insane, probably.
CONTEXT(maybe important, maybe not. probably just skip to SITUATION ):
family is screwed(immigrants). somewhat desensitized but I can still recognize how dysfunctional my parents are. I've watched my parents fight and wreck the house for as long as I can remember once a week. one time I said to my mother after a particularly retarded fight and she was also in the wrong, If she called my dad a bastard but then does the exact same type of behavior she is no better and wouldn't she be calling for self a bastard also? I was only thinking that by using her own words and thinking, she could have no logical counter argument to this and concede. instead she tried to kill herself by popping 20 pills and sent to a psych ward and blamed me afterwards :) I've never been able to hold an intelligible conversation with them either, they make statements and claims without proof or any critical analysis.
I can't thank my family for anything except feeding and clothing me, at least I'm not in some temu factory so i guess it could be worse.
I wasn't really socialized, so I had a difficult time in school. I'm probably a tad on the spectrum so it didn't come natural either. the one friend a had, his mum only felt bad for me, which everyone knew. I was bullied for most of primary school but its probably good at that point considering how many issues I had. I was in between being a people pleaser for people who showed me a drop of kindness, and acting out because "since no body like me why should I like them".
during high school I think i gained self awareness and realized I can't keep blaming the world, (like my parents) and by critically thinking about what other may considered common sense, I somewhat domesticated myself and stopped acting out and learnt how to socialize and not polarize everyone. I stopped debating and using mental gymnastics to mess with people as payback and mocking people. No longer a social pariah and most people like me (as long as I my distance) and not get close.
people who know me before I changed think I'm smart but an asshole. people new people I've met think quiet and reserved.
SITUATION
I'm about to graduate and I've gone a long way to solve several glaring problems but they are mostly behavioral but not mental as I still think the same way. I'm always playing devil's advocate in my head for literally everything, which makes me think I'm quite objective, but I also not because I don't even have opinion anymore, just perspectives.
My main issues I've been using a persona for a long time. I don't debate people or argue with them. I barely even speak and I'm mostly reserved. however its impossible to form a relationship under the pretext of a persona, as the relationship is with the persona not me. I want to be able to integrate who I am and what i really think with a set of behavior patterns that is socially acceptable. I crave interaction with people and it is not lost of me it's because I'm always pretending so I'm dissociated and not actually getting interaction and its all a game in my head, but if I drop it I'm not ever sure what more "natural" personality is anymore. (advice)
Most conversations to me seem meaningless and It's not that I don't like to talk i love to. I love debating and exploring ideas, even if arguing just for the sake of entertainment, but people don't. most conversations around me that I have to engage have no substance. people say "how are you" even though they really don't care (believe me when I first was learning how to socialize I took this as face value, they in fact do now what to know how are you). how do I talk with people naturally, especially small talk when it a. confuses me and b. bores me unless the conversation has a purpose or topic?(advice)
I'm probably also somewhat narcissistic. I don't think I'm are narcissist because I don't wish harm upon others, at least not anymore, but I can't help but see what people do with first intention in mind. its like I think everyone else is a narcissist, which probably means I am a narcissist who's just projecting. I can't tell when people are being nice to me and why. To appear altruistic so others treat them better, because that definitely works I've noticed, or to satisfy their own ego as a "good" person so by being nice they affirm themselves. A lot of the time, after interactions with people I automatically start assuming the worst of intentions they have just to be safe. The things they say I analyze in more perspectives that I can count but settle with the worst just to be safe and not get screwed over. what is actually going on?!(advice)
Now to a somewhat comical issue, I had no idea how to talk to girls. There has been multiple times I've fumbled relationships served to me on a silver platter catastrophically. every conversation I've had with a girl has mean drier then the Sahara desert. "wyd", "doing anything this weekend?", "do you have siblings?", "you hair is soft, can i touch it?!?!". like what am I even supposed to response with, or they realistically expect me to say? "nothing", "yes", "yes", "no...?!". I know Its probably over for me, but I can't even talk to a girl in general its like they operate on a different social system. Sometimes they just get angry at me and yell at me. I don't even know anymore.(advice)
I make fast friends with people all the time (guys), but they always vaporize after a while when I get tired of saying the right things and playing my cards to their interests, so I'm acquaintances loads of people but none close.
As I've said I've mostly taught myself how to appear "normal" but It is not in fact normal, and I'm probably going to give myself schizophrenia if I don't learn to fix these problems. I don't want these issue to compound and try to fix them when I'm 30 and my find is not plastic enough to make these changes, so any honest and object advice, or even different perspective would be appreciated. I don't want to turn into my parents.

2024.06.09 10:25 Wooleyty I met the Dogman at Raven's Nest and it took my sister. [Part one]

My name is Rory Fars, and my little sister, Lily Fars, is the last family I had left.
A heavy sense of dread settled over me like a suffocating blanket as I sat in the worn leather seat of Lily's old jeep. The car, a relic of our happier days, seemed to groan under our shared sorrow. Beside me, Lily, my best friend, and confidante, absentmindedly twirled a strand of her long, dark hair, which swayed gently in rhythm with the haunting melodies from the oldies station on the radio. This car had seen us through countless joyful journeys when our family was whole. Almost three years had passed since that fateful Christmas trip in Texas when our parents were tragically killed in a horrific multi-car pileup. The memory of their loss was a constant ache, a wound that never fully healed.
My dad was from Amarillo, Texas, so my parents often took trips down there, visiting the places that held so many memories for him. During one of these trips, just before Christmas, a sudden blizzard struck while they were on the freeway. The snow fell in blinding sheets, making the world outside a disorienting white blur. As they tried to slowly pull to the side, their vision obscured by the relentless storm, they never saw the car barreling toward them at least forty miles an hour. The impact was devastating, an abrupt and brutal end to their journey and, in many ways, to our lives as we had known them.
My parents were always sticklers for safety, insisting on seatbelts every time we got in the car. So, of course, they had theirs on during that fateful trip. The initial impact wasn't what killed them, the coroner explained to me. Not even the first hit from behind, which was going at least fifty miles an hour, was fatal. I had to practically shake the information out of him—they were so resistant to tell me anything at first. By the time the third car hit, with an unknown speed, their survival was already in jeopardy. The coroner said that by the fifth car, they were likely dead. But it didn't end there. Another twenty-three vehicles slammed into the back of the pile, each collision further crushing their bodies, reducing them to a horrific, unrecognizable state. Each jarring impact pushed my parents deeper into a gruesome amalgamation of twisted metal and shattered lives.
I don't know why I felt compelled to demand those details at the time, but I deeply regret it now. I wish I had never asked. Almost every night, unless I drink myself into oblivion, I am haunted by nightmares of what they endured. I dream of driving up to save them, only to be caught in the same deadly barrage of cars, ending in a twisted metal tomb for all of us.
Lily is never in those dreams. Even in my most horrific imaginings, I can't envision her being hurt. Lily is my little sister, younger by eight years and three months. Whenever I mention our age difference, I see the judgment in people's eyes, but what can I say? Our parents never stopped loving each other. They had Lily late in life; she became our shared joy, our living reminder of the love that had bound our family together.
Lily wasn't my twin in the literal sense, but ever since she was born, it felt like we shared the inexplicable connection that twins often describe. As she grew up, our bond only deepened—we acted, sounded, and even looked remarkably alike. She became my rock, especially after our parents' tragic deaths. We leaned on each other, cried into each other's shoulders, and somehow found the strength to move forward. We eventually moved in together, finding solace in a two-bedroom apartment that became our sanctuary.
Lily seemed to handle our parents' deaths better than I did, or maybe she was just better at distracting herself with technology. Even before their passing, Lily was addicted to any kind of digital screen she could manipulate. Her ability to navigate the digital world was unmatched; she was the most intelligent person I had ever met. Her intelligence was a beacon of light in the darkness that had enveloped us, a testament to her resilience and brilliance.
After my parents' death, I embarked on a quest to find my spirituality by delving into paranormal investigations. I hoped these pursuits would bring me closer to my parents in the afterlife, spiritual realm, or whatever you want to call it. Instead, it created a chasm between me and any sense of spiritual existence. Each investigation seemed to push me further from the answers I sought, leaving me feeling more isolated and disconnected than ever.
I had hoped that by exploring these paranormal claims, I would discover a way to reach out to my parents and feel their presence again. Yet, as the years have passed, this endeavor has only deepened my loneliness and sense of loss. Despite knowing how detrimental it is to my mental health, I can't bring myself to stop. The hope that the subsequent investigation will be the one that proves the existence of an afterlife and that I'll find a way to contact my parents keeps me going. It's a desperate, unrelenting pursuit for a connection that remains heartbreakingly out of reach.
I should have accepted their death and moved on like any sane person would. Instead, I let my grief fester and dragged my sister and a stranger, Mark, through my obsessive quest for answers. My relentless pursuit of the paranormal didn't just alienate me; it consumed us all, leading to their untimely deaths. My name is Rory Fars, and I am here to confess my side of the story about the missing case of Lily Fars and Mark Lawrence.
This is the truth about how my desperate search for a connection with the afterlife led to a nightmare from which none of us could escape.
To start off, no, Lily was not a student of Mark's who fell in love with him and then got jealous of me hitting on him, leading her to kill him and herself. I know that sounds ridiculous, but given some wild theories circulating online, I need to address this one specifically since it seems to be the most popular.
First and foremost, Mark Lawrence was not, nor has he ever been, a professor at a university. Lily and I met Mark at the Local Museum in Redlin, a town nestled deep in the Appalachian Mountains. He was the curator of an exhibit showcasing the history of Raven's Nest, a forgotten mining town that neither Lily nor I had ever heard of. This is where our story begins, in a place steeped in history and mystery, far removed from the convoluted theories that now cloud the truth.
We were constantly searching for new ideas for our podcast about paranormal claims. Each of our twenty-five episodes so far had concluded with a rational explanation, so when Mark told us about the curse of Harper, I was immediately intrigued.
Mark was an older man, likely in his mid-sixties, with a full head of silver hair and a beard that stubbornly clung to its youthful color, only lightly dusted with grey. He had a presence that commanded attention, and his stories about the curse were delivered with an intensity that drew me in.
On the other hand, Lily was always more interested in the technical aspects of the paranormal. She had her own theories and was determined to debunk every claim we investigated. She wasn't easily swayed by Mark's tales about the curse of Harper, but she was willing to listen and give him a chance to prove himself. Her skeptical mind constantly checked my enthusiasm, and together, we hoped to uncover the truth behind yet another paranormal mystery.
"Hello ladies, care to hear about the mysterious town of Raven's Nest?" Mark asked with theatrical enthusiasm.
Lily and I exchanged a knowing glance, trying to stifle our amusement. Despite our attempts to remain composed, a smirk played at the corners of our lips.
"We're all ears," I replied, my tone laced with a hint of sarcasm.
He sighed, almost as if he was disappointed that we said yes. Taking a deep breath, he seemed to steel himself for the task ahead. "Well, you see," he began, his voice tinged with uncertainty, "in the early twentieth century, a man named Harper Franstein exploited many men and children in the coal mines. By the mid-1920s, he had established his own settlement in a secluded valley, which he dubbed 'The Raven's Nest.' It was never officially recognized as a town, but that's the only name we have to go off of."
I could see the beads of sweat forming on Mark's brow as he struggled to recall every detail. Despite his initial enthusiasm, he now appeared flustered, his confidence waning. Eventually, he resorted to consulting his damp and crumpled notes, a sign of his growing unease.
"Um, anyway, yeah, um," he stuttered, audibly gulping as his nerves got the better of him. Lily couldn't contain her laughter, emitting a snicker that earned us a glare from Mark.
"Hey, just relax," I interjected, trying to diffuse the tension. "We're not here to judge or intimidate you." With a gentle touch on his forearm and a chuckle, I attempted to reassure him, hoping to ease his obvious discomfort.
He paused, sharing a chuckle with me, while Lily struggled to suppress her laughter and eventually excused herself, leaving just Mark and me. Evidently, he felt more at ease with fewer listeners, so he pressed on with his narrative.
"Anyway," he resumed, "Harper held complete control over the town and the mine, and he made sure everyone was acutely aware of that fact. When the disappearances began, he tried to sweep them under the rug, attributing them to anything but his own negligence in mining practices."
"What do you mean by 'negligence in mining practices'?" I interjected, eager to delve deeper into his intriguing tale.
He looked up, clearly pleased by my question. "Yes, exactly," he affirmed. "Harper adhered to a mining technique outlined by Dwight Brunst in the mid to late nineteenth century. This method mandated only one entry and exit point into the mine."
"Wait, so they were forbidden from creating additional exits?" I pressed for clarification.
"Not explicitly," he explained. "The practice advocated for just one entry and exit as it was believed to minimize the risk of cave-ins, at least in theory. However, there were instances where miners, feeling uneasy about this restriction, took matters into their own hands and carved out what they called 'Emergency Exits' for themselves. After about half of the town started going missing, Harper couldn't take criticism about how he responded, but most people say he was losing money quickly and didn't want to live in a world where he was poor. He walked into the mine, never to be seen again, much like the cave's past victims. Visitors report seeing and hearing Harper, trying to get them to leave."
As I stood there, listening to Mark's enthralling narrative, I found myself captivated by the mysterious allure of Raven's Nest. Unable to contain my curiosity, I decided to pose a question.
"So, what does the town look like now?" I inquired, eager to learn more about the present state of this enigmatic place.
Mark's demeanor shifted slightly as he rifled through his notes, a subtle indication that he didn't have a straightforward answer to my query.
"You've never been there?" I asked, my tone softening with genuine curiosity.
He flinched as though my question had struck a nerve. "Shhhhhh... shut up," he demanded, his voice tinged with unease.
Suppressing a chuckle, I leaned in closer and whispered, "Okay, hear me out. My sister Lily and I are investigating paranormal phenomena. Your story about Raven's Nest sounds like the perfect addition to our podcast. What do you say we compensate you for your guidance? Let's say, three hundred bucks?"
He straightened up, contemplating my proposition for a few moments. Without uttering a word, he extended his hand, and I met it halfway with my own, sealing our agreement with a firm handshake.
Our journey to Raven's Nest was no easy feat. Situated a good twenty miles from town and nestled deep within a dense valley. After all of the tight turns, narrow dirt roads, and steep inclines, it took us a grueling two and a half hours to go twenty-something miles, but we finally reached the outskirts of the infamous settlement. As we stood at the edge of the "Nest," anticipation mingled with trepidation, setting the stage for the eerie exploration that lay ahead.
I glanced at my phone; the time read 11:56 pm, signaling the late hour. Sensing the exhaustion weighing heavily, I suggested we catch a few hours of rest in Lily's jeep. Mark, though visibly unsettled, remained silent from the back seat, his arms folded tightly across his chest as he slumped against the window like a sulking child.
Drifting asleep in the passenger seat, I soon found myself ensnared in a nightmare. In my dream, Mark was being dragged away into the darkness, his desperate attempts to claw his way back to safety only resulting in broken fingertips. Despite his struggles, he was powerless against the unseen force pulling him inexorably into the abyss. Suddenly, I was alone, engulfed in utter darkness, my heart pounding with fear as I ran blindly from an unseen terror that seemed to pursue me relentlessly, its malevolent presence palpable but unseen.
I jolted awake, gasping for breath, my heart racing as the remnants of dread lingered in the pit of my stomach. It was morning, and I was struggling to adjust my vision. Lily's frantic but comforting voice broke through the haze of my terror, grounding me in reality. With her comforting embrace, I gradually calmed my racing thoughts, drawing deep, steadying breaths.
As we sat there, enveloped in each other's embrace, Mark approached the driver's side window with an unexpected question, "Alright, what's for breakfast?" His nonchalant tone and casual demeanor were a stark contrast to the harrowing nightmare that had just consumed my thoughts, momentarily dispelling the lingering specter of fear that had haunted my dreams.
Lily and I both look up at him and back at each other as we burst out into laughter.
Amidst our shared laughter, Lily and I exchanged amused glances before turning our attention back to Mark.
"Ha...ha, yeah. No, but seriously, what's for breakfast? Eggs, bacon, toast, at least?" Mark pressed, hoping for a more substantial response.
His earnest inquiry fueled our laughter further, our giggles echoing through the quiet night air. Eventually, we regained our composure and stepped out of the jeep, stretching our limbs after the cramped confines of the vehicle.
Mark awkwardly moves to the side, still waiting for an honest answer. Lily tossed him a granola bar, eliciting a bemused chuckle from him. With a shared understanding, we set off on foot, embarking on the hike into the town.
The path ahead was clear: a single dirt road that wound its way from the abandoned coal mine into the heart of the small settlement. The road, now overgrown and muddy from years of disuse, bore the marks of neglect and isolation. Wary of the treacherous conditions, Lily opted to forgo the risk of getting stuck, steering clear of the decrepit road that likely hadn't seen a traveler in at least half a century.
We parked Lily's jeep at the entrance to both the mine and the town of Raven's Nest, opting to proceed on foot from there. Standing at the mountain's peak, gazing down at the desolate town below, I couldn't help but ponder the history beneath the dilapidated structures. I imagined how this valley must have once been a pristine landscape cherished by the indigenous people who roamed its lush terrain.
"Jesus, this place is more like a shit nest," Mark muttered in disgust, his disdain evident in his tone.
Lily shot me a knowing glance, silently communicating her skepticism toward Mark's assessment of the town.
Deciding to put Mark's knowledge to the test, I casually inquired, "So, what year was this area founded?"
Mark's reaction was almost defensive as if my question had caught him off guard. He hesitated momentarily before fumbling for his note cards in his pocket, a telltale sign that he wasn't as knowledgeable as he let on.
Before he could respond, I interjected with another question, "Mark, how long have you worked at the museum?"
As Mark froze, his gaze locking onto mine like a deer caught in headlights, I watched him closely, waiting for any sign of hesitation or discomfort. My narrowed eyes bore into his, silently urging him to be honest.
Finally, breaking the tense silence, Mark confessed, "Look, this is only my first week. I... I haven't had the greatest time lately, and I really need the extra money. I'm sorry I lied, but I'll help however I can."
I met his gaze unwaveringly, sensing the sincerity in his words. Clearly, he was a man in need of redemption, grappling with his own personal struggles.
"Alright, alright, don't cry too much," I teased lightly, trying to ease the tension. Gesturing towards Lily, who was busy preparing her wireless motion cameras in her backpack, I continued, "Lily and I already figured that was the case. Honestly, we're surprised you agreed to come along."
Mark remained frozen, but the tension seemed to melt away from his expression, replaced by a tentative smile. It was a moment of shared understanding, a silent acknowledgment that he was still welcomed into our expedition despite his initial deception.
"Alright, I have the cams and portable batteries to make sure the cameras and anything we have with power can last," Lily said, her voice brimming with determination.
We began our descent into the town, our hiking boots struggling against the thick, clinging mud produced by the constant light rain and years of disuse. Each step was a battle, the mud threatening to swallow our boots with every move.
After an eternity of trudging through the muck, we finally reached the town's only paved road—the main road. It had taken us only about fifteen minutes to hike down, but navigating the muddy slope had sapped our energy. We paused for a break, taking a few minutes to clean off our boots and catch our breath.
As we rested, I noticed Lily rummaging through her bag with a focused intensity. Curious, I asked, "What are you looking for?"
"I brought five motion-detecting cameras that I want to set up strategically throughout the town," she replied, pulling out one of the cameras. She walked over to the nearest building, a structure that served as a post office, police station, and fire station. She positioned the camera outside the building so it was pointed at the only road leading in and out of the town.
"We need to cover all potential points of interest," she explained, securing the camera in place. "This one will monitor any activity on the main road. We should place the other cameras around key locations like the mine entrance, the town square, and some more intact buildings."
I nodded, appreciating her thoroughness. "Good idea. We need to make sure we capture anything unusual."
Mark, having finally caught his breath, joined us. "Alright, let's get these cameras set up and see what we can find," he said, a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Look," Lily said, turning her tablet screen toward us. She waved her hand in front of the camera she had just placed. The tablet displayed five squares on the interface, each meant to show a feed from one of the cameras. Since Lily had only set up one camera so far, only the bottom right square showed any footage pointed at the road leading out of town. She stopped waving her hand, and the feed went to a blue screen.
"What happened? Did we lose connection?" Mark asked frantically, his eyes wide with concern.
Lily cackled, struggling to contain her amusement. Composing herself, she waved her hand in front of the camera again, and the bottom right square showed her hand waving once more. "It's motion-activated. It's the best way to save on battery life," she explained.
Mark seemed to relax, though he was still catching his breath after the brief panic.
I glanced at my watch, noting the time. "It's 8:30. We're behind schedule. If you want to place the rest of your cameras, we better move now," I said, walking down the street.
Lily immediately got up and followed me, with Mark struggling to keep pace behind us. We reached the market building, and Lily positioned her second camera on the side of the road, pointing up at the market.
It's not much longer before we make it to the Town Hall. I suggest Lily place a camera nearby. She nods and heads into a building across from the Town Hall labeled, "Slaughterhouse: LOCAL ANIMALS ONLY."
As Lily explores the building to find an adequate spot for the camera, I wait for Mark to catch up. While I wait, I can't help but imagine this town in its prime, picturing the streets filled with families who loved each other.
My thoughts are abruptly cut off by a sound echoing in the distance—a roar unlike any I've ever heard. It was a mix of a human screaming in pain, the roar of a lion, and, near the end, the howl of a wolf. The chilling sound sent shivers down my spine.
I jump to my feet and immediately call out, "Lily, you okay?"
There's no response from Lily, but I'm interrupted by Mark finally catching up, panting heavily.
"Holy... shit... did you... hear that?" Mark said frantically between breaths.
"Yeah, we have to find Lily," I say, bolting into the slaughterhouse. I glance back to see Mark bracing himself on the steps of the Town Hall, struggling to keep up.
As I enter the building, the stench of rotting flesh hits me like a wave, causing me to gag. The smell is too fresh to be decades old.
"Lily? Lily, where are you?" I yell, using my shirt to shield my nose from the overwhelming odor.
"Rory, I'm in here!" I hear Lily yell from a room two doors down. I pass the first door, peeking in to ensure I hadn't misheard, but I wish I hadn't looked.
Inside the first room, I catch a glimpse of what appears to be a pile of animal carcasses, their decayed bodies arranged in a grotesque display. The sight is horrifying, the flesh still disturbingly fresh. The bile rises in my throat, but I force myself to focus on finding Lily.
I rush to the room where her voice came from, pushing the door open. Lily is there, setting up the camera, seemingly oblivious to the horror in the adjacent room. Relief floods through me as I see she's safe.
"Lily, did you hear that roar?" I ask, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Yeah, I heard it," she replies, her eyes wide with concern. "I was just finishing up here. Let's get back to Mark and figure out what that was." She had placed the camera in a window, pointing directly at the Town Hall.
We hurry back outside, where Mark still catches his breath as we meet between the buildings. "We need to stay together from now on," I say firmly, looking at both of them. "Whatever that noise was, it's not something we want to face alone."
"Let's check out the Town Hall!" Mark says excitedly as he slowly clambers through a broken window.
"Did he not just hear what I said?" I mutter under my breath, shaking my head in disbelief.
Lily gives me a shrug, her eyes reflecting a mix of amusement and exasperation. "Guess we're heading into the Town Hall then," she says, adjusting her backpack and walking towards the broken window.
I sigh and follow suit, hoisting myself up and carefully maneuvering through the jagged glass. Inside, the air is musty, filled with the scent of old paper and decaying wood. Dust motes float lazily in the beams of sunlight streaming through the cracked windows.
The main hall is vast and eerily silent, with rows of empty chairs facing a stage draped in tattered curtains. The walls are lined with faded portraits and yellowed maps of the town, remnants of a time when this place was alive and bustling.
Mark is already at the front, examining a large, decrepit desk. "Look at this," he says, his voice echoing in the empty space. "It's like stepping back in time."
I walk over, glancing at the old papers scattered across the desk. Most are mundane—meeting minutes, maintenance logs—but one catches my eye. It's a letter dated June 1925, addressed to Harper Franstein.
"Harper, the disappearances are becoming more frequent. The townsfolk are getting restless, and I fear they may take matters into their own hands if we don't act soon. We need to find out what's causing this before it's too late."
I read the letter aloud, and the room fell silent. "Sounds like things were getting pretty tense," Lily remarks, her voice subdued.
As I'm distracted by the time capsule in front of us, Mark sneaks off.
I'm not sure how long it was before she noticed, but I saw Lily looking around before saying, "Where the hell did Mark go?" breaking me out of my trance.
I look around, turning my head in all directions, and shrug at Lily. I hear shuffling in the second room down the hall, so I slowly walk toward it.
"Mark?" I call out.
Just then, a loud crash reverberates through the building, making it sound like the whole place was about to come down.
We run in and see Mark struggling to keep himself from falling into a giant hole that must've broken under his weight. Trying not to laugh, I glance at Lily. We help him up as he dramatically falls onto his back, wheezing as he catches his breath.
Lily and I can't contain our laughter anymore as we bust out laughing hard. Startled by our sudden outburst, Mark jumps in fear. He looks around, confused for a few seconds, before realizing that we are laughing at him.
"Jesus, thanks, I guess," he says, clearly thankful but annoyed by our reaction.
After we contained ourselves, we headed back outside, exiting through the window Mark entered through. He struggles to climb out, but after Lily gives him a hand, he is safely out of the Town Hall.
"Alright, Ror, where should we put the next camera?" Lily asks me.
I stop to think momentarily, trying to picture the town's layout. "I think the only place left is the neighborhood," I respond confidently. I always talk like that with Lily. Over the years, I've realized she is the only person I can have that much confidence around. With anyone else, I'm worried about saying something stupid or wrong or how they'll view me, but with my sister, everything is easy.
As I look at the replica map of the town in its heyday from the museum, I determine that the neighborhood is to the East. "Okay, looks like we head East past the Library. Let's go." I say, walking away.
It only takes about eight minutes to get to the long strip of road that housed the town's workers. According to the map, there were fifteen houses along this strip of road.
The houses stand eerily silent, their wooden frames weathered and decayed by time. We walk down the road, our footsteps crunching on the gravel and echoing in the stillness. The air feels heavier here like the past is watching us, waiting to reveal its secrets.
"Let's put the last cameras on that house at the end of the road," I suggest, pointing to a house that looks slightly less dilapidated than the others, "another one at the last house on the other side, and the last we can save for a spot you choose."
Lily nods and heads toward the first house, pulling another camera from her backpack. She sets it up on the porch, positioning it to capture the entire street, and does the same in the opposite house. As I stand with Mark breathing hard, still unable to catch his breath since we first got here, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. I glance around nervously but see nothing out of the ordinary.
"All set," Lily says, breaking my reverie, "Still no ideas for the last cam?" Lily asks me.
"Like I said, wherever you think it would be best. I feel like we have enough good spots and angles, so go wild with that one," I told her.
She smirked and kept walking next to me. Mark was still struggling behind, but after the town hall mishap, he was trying his best to keep up. I looked at my watch, and it read '12:30 pm'.
"Holy shit, it's already 12:30," I said in amazement, but no one else seemed fazed. It felt like we'd only been here thirty minutes, not almost four hours.
We walked back down the street. Lily and I had been discussing on the walk that she should put the last camera at the town's only stoplight in front of the Library.
As we made our way to it, I could have sworn I was seeing something moving fast past my vision in the corner of my eye. Every time I turned to look, it was gone. I chalked it up to being my imagination until Lily and Mark both experienced the same thing.
"What the fuck was that?" Mark asked as he ducked, bracing for something terrible to happen. Lily and I looked back at him and then at each other as we shrugged. It was after that that I started seeing things, too.
I confided in Lily about the unsettling visions and sounds, and she admitted she had experienced the same phenomena but had kept quiet, fearing Mark would dismiss her as paranoid.
"Well, it's probably just a cat or something," I said, attempting to downplay the situation, but neither seemed convinced.
We continued our trek, and I noticed that the more we walked, the more frequently I caught fleeting glimpses of movement in my peripheral vision. It was beginning to grate on my nerves.
Finally, we reached the light in front of the Library. As Lily mounted the camera, I felt a sense of satisfaction. We were making good progress, and it seemed like a suitable moment to start exploring the town more freely. We decided to split up and cover different sections of the town.
"Wait, we have to go alone? Why can't we stay together like you said?" Mark asked frantically, but Lily and I ignored him as we headed in separate directions. He continued to protest, but we paid him no mind. Eventually, I was either far enough away to not hear him anymore, or he had given up. Either way, I was happy to enjoy the eerie silence of the town.
As I wandered, the stillness of Raven's Nest enveloped me. With its decrepit buildings and overgrown streets, the town exuded an unsettling charm. It was as if I had stepped into a forgotten world, a place frozen in time with secrets waiting to be unearthed. The ambiance reminded me of an amusement park's haunted town section—artificially eerie yet irresistibly intriguing. Despite the creepiness, the mysterious vibe of the town kept me engaged and eager to explore its hidden corners.
I glanced at my watch again, only to find the time glaring back at me: 3:19 pm. It couldn't be right. There was no way it had been that long since I last checked. Panic seized me, and I called out for Lily, my voice tinged with urgency. She appeared beside me in a matter of minutes, her expression mirroring my concern.
"What's up, Ror? You okay?" she asked, her voice laced with worry.
"How long would you say it's been since you put the last camera down?" I inquired, my heart pounding in my chest.
Lily's brow furrowed as she struggled to come up with an answer. "Uh, I don't know, thirty minutes?" she hazarded a guess.
I held up my watch, displaying the time: 3:20 pm. Lily fell silent, her eyes widening in disbelief. She was never great with time, but missing almost three hours of our memory was unprecedented.
"There's no way. Your watch must be—" Lily began, her voice trailing off as she checked her own watch, only to freeze in shock when she found it displayed the same time as mine.
"Lil, something is going on," I stated, my voice tight and apprehensive. I glanced up at the sky, my stomach churning as I noticed the clouds darkening and rolling in from all sides of the valley.
The sky closed rapidly, ominous clouds obscuring the sun as thunder rumbled ominously against the mountains.
"Mark? Mark, where are—" I began to call out, but before I could finish, Mark emerged from behind a wall, appearing as if he'd been too frightened to venture far on his own.
"We have to get inside!" Mark exclaimed urgently, his voice tinged with fear.

2024.06.09 10:05 Life_Commercial_6580 Best time to ask for a paid upgrade

Hi everyone!
I am trying to understand when it’s the best time to try and pay for an upgraded seat at a higher class. I historically used to go to the counter the day of the flight and ask to pay for a business class seat and if any were available they’d give me a price and I’ll just get it.
But today I was told at LHR that delta doesn’t allow for same day upgrades in Europe. I know for a fact that a couple of years ago I did upgrade the day of but they keep changing rules.
What’s currently the best time to try ? Call days before etc? I’m currently silver and will be at least gold next year, if it matters at all (I guess not).
Thanks !

2024.06.09 10:02 Reasonable_Law_2502 Tips for a 3rd Strike player trying to learn SF6?

Hi guys. I'm a 3rd strike player, B rank on fightcade, around 400 hours. Id say im decent at the game. Im trying to learn SF6, and it just feels so slow and difficult compared to 3s. I had hoped my skills would transfer over a little better but I dont seem to be getting anywhere. Im looking at guides and stuff for this game, but Im wondering specifically if anyone was in the same disposition I am in.
I keep getting washed by people using Modern Controls, who demolish my jump ins and punish my every mistake with nutty combos. I also keep falling victim to the Drive Rush. I cant seem to react to it and jump away in time, and if I block it, I still get pushed back and thrown into what feels like a 50/50, but Im probably just not reacting properly.
Im currently in Silver 3. Im playing Ryu right now but I have yet to experiment with the rest of the characters in this game. I really want to like this game but it feels so alien.

Unsatisfied with lights - possible to modify them?
I had these light fixtures from a previous house where they fit well. Previously they were hung with a steel cable and used more of a cleasilver wire and had a silver cup that rested against the ceiling (where one could hide the connections and such).
I figured before buying new lights for the new place I would try these lights. I hung them using silver chains and a black fabric cable. Using the silver cups against this ceiling wouldn't really work because the ceiling is slanted and the way the cables run through the cup would put the weight of the fixture on the cups (which aren't very strong).
I thought I would like the contrast but I wouldn't say I'm a big fan now that it's up. I generally have a poor eye for this sort of thing.
Is there some way I could modify this to make it more palatable? One idea I had was painting the top of the glass fixtures so they cables/chains weren't so prominent against them.
Anything else I might want to consider or should I just try to replace all lights in the room so they all match (replacing the other gold coloured lights is on the to-do list).

2024.06.09 09:48 FrittataHubris Why can't resets be done in non mainline 616 X-Men books?

So after reading this thread it seems like Marvel bosses forced a rushed ending in order to do a reset in time for an MCU X-Men film. https://www.reddit.com/xmen/s/YDGZlq8LW1
I've never read an X-Men tun continuously but have quite a few bits and pieces throughout the years like Essentials of silver she, Morrisons New Xmen, Astonishing Xmen, and other uncanny ones. But recently have started a full read through statted at silver age. So I'm sorry if this is an obvious question for someone who's read continuously for longer.
It seems since the Claremont run, every now and then the status quo resets back to the X-Men stories that people know from that era and the cartoons and other media etc.
But I'm wondering, since Uncanny X-Men is the main line story, and they want to keep getting new readers by using resets, why cant they do resets/reintroductions in there own self contained X-Title, and then let writers have self control for how they want to wrote their own run?
As someone who found it hard to get into marvel comics when I was younger ( this was when first X-Men film came out, so before MCU and before Unlimited and all these reading orders were about), mainly due to so many jumping off points and different titles, it feels like having a separate completed story to retell and reintroduce the X-Men and the core popular themes and stories of the last however many years would be perfect. It doesnt need any tie ins with other titles. Doesnt need to last for decades or have lasting consequences. But just is story to get people up to speed, and then from there they fan jump back into modern era or whatever.
This issue is what made me move onto anime/manga for some of those years. For the most part, a lot of these stories have a beginning and clear end. Even other non Marvel or DC comics are like this, and are more accessible for people to jump in to. X-Men could have just been written like that for getting more readers.
I dont see why the movies and the comics have to tie in at all to be honest. Is that me being ignorant, ornis that marvel bigwigs being out of touch?

2024.06.09 09:42 LawAcrobatic3995 (Warning, Long post) OC Stark Branches summaries for new Stark fic

(Warning, Long post) OC Stark Branches summaries for new Stark fic
This post is a sort of preview for a fic that I'm close to releasing which follows Lord Alaric Stark an OC legitimate son of Brandon Stark(Son of Rickard) and a Umber OC. In this fic, there are two branches of House Stark descended from Artos Stark and his twin sons, Brandon and Benjen.
The name of this fic is The Wolf King of the North. I may still change the name but for right now that's the name. And yes, this is a Stark wank, suck it.
Below is a family tree I made showcasing the new branches and characters and below the Family Tree will be the summaries of the dead members' lives, and a quick summary of who the new OCs are.
This family tree and these descriptions are Circa. 295AC
Family tree for my AU
Benjen Stark’s Family:
  • Benjen Stark.
  • Dacey Stark (Nee Mormont)
  • Rickard Stark(B. 283AC), the eldest son of Benjen, Rickard inherited a healthy amount of the famous “Wolf’s Blood” and loves sparring in the courtyard with the other children being fostered in Winterfell
  • Lyarra Stark(B. 285AC), the only daughter of Benjen and Dacey. Lyarra Stark is affectionately called “Lya” by her family as a nod to Lyanna, whom Lyarra greatly resembles. Lyarra is a part of Sansa’s group of ladies who she often spends time with. Despite sharing a nickname and likeness with her aunt, Lyarra has the opposite personality of Lyanna, where, she is more “Ladylike” and subdued compared to Lyanna during her youth
  • Cregan Stark(B. 293AC), despite being only a couple of years old, little Cregan is a rambunctious little fella who constantly squirms in his parent's arms. Cregan gets along with his cousin Rickon, at least he gets along with him as much as two young children can
House Stark of High Hill, Lord Artos Stark's wife and children:
  • Lord Artos Stark, Master of High Hill (B. 261AC). Lord Artos is a stern and shrewd man who has the temperament of an unmoving wall, that is unless he is talking with or spending time with his family or his kin from the Main branch. Artos Stark has a burning hatred for all things Targaryen after his younger brother Edric Stark rode down to Kings Landing with Brandon Stark and was executed by the Mad King, along with his Father who went alongside Rickard Stark and perished like his son and 2nd cousin. His hatred for the Targaryens is only matched by his pure disdain for the Ironborn, after the death of his Goodbrother and best friend, Edwyle Stark of the White Harbor Starks who died during the battle at Pyke
  • Lady Alarra Stark of the White Harbor Starks(B. 261AC), wife of Lord Artos Stark. Lady Alarra is a warm woman who gives off a feeling of tenderness and love, she is compassionate and cares for all of those who are under her Lord-Husband’s employ
  • Osric Stark (B. 282AC), the eldest of Artos’ four children and his first son and heir, Osric is expected to learn not only to rule over his family lands but also learn the ins and outs of the Furred cow trade which their house is one of the main producers of. Osric has fostered at Winterfell since he was 3, growing a brotherly bond with his liege lord, Lord Alaric Stark, along with Robb Stark, Rickard Stark, son of Benjen, and the two White Harbor Stark boys, Cregard and Harlon Stark along with the sons of some of the other powerful houses in the north, all of whom are referred too as the “wolf pack” by Ned and the other inhabitants of Winterfell and Wintertown.
  • Branda and Berena Stark(B. 285AC), Artos’ only daughters and twin girls. Both Branda and Berena are likewise fostering in Winterfell with their brother and distant kin, often seen with Sansa and their group of friends. Both twins are rather headstrong and stubborn while being raised as ladies of the court, both haven't forgotten their northern roots and often can be seen in the Godswood or talking with Dacey Mormont or any other Northern lady that visits Winterfell
  • Edwyn Stark(B. 288AC), Artos’ second son, and youngest child. Edwyn like his older brother, has been fostered at Winterfell since he was a young child, making fast friends with his distant cousin Bran Stark, sharing a wonder for knights and tales of glory and even stories of Wargs of old. Due to Edwyn’s influence, Bran has grown up idolizing Barrow Knights and figures like Ser Rodrik Cassel, Ser Beric Stark, and even the more recently knighted, Ser Jorah Mormont(Who isn't a slaver in this AU). Wherever Bran is, you can bet that Edwyn isn't far behind, if not leading the way.
Lord Artos Stark's Siblings:
  • Edric Stark (B. 261-281AC), younger brother of Lord Artos Stark, Edric was always an energetic young man who relished in combat training and had a keen mind for warfare tactics as well. Sadly, Edric rode alongside his distant cousin Brandon Stark to King’s Landing where he would perish alongside Brandon and their friends
  • Sarra Stark (B. 262AC), younger sister of Lord Artos Stark, and wife of Ser Benjicot Stark of the White Harbor Starks. Sarra Stark is a kind yet stern woman who knows her way around a negotiation, often helping her husband in his business affairs whether within Westeros or throughout.
  • Ser Harald Stark (B. 266AC), the Master-at-arms and Castellan at High Hall, Ser Harald is a stoic man who sports a nasty scar running down the length of his face diagonally from his left eyebrow to his right cheek, Ser Harald received this scar during Greyjoy’s Rebellion. His older sister, Sarra Stark is overly protective of him and has often embarrassed him since they were children with her overbearing nature. Ser Harald Stark was knighted by King Robert I of House Baratheon following the siege of Pyke for killing an injured Maron Greyjoy.
Ser Harald Stark's Two bastard sons:
  • Edric and Elric Snow (B. 283AC), the twin bastard sons of Ser Harald and a tavern wench, both squire for their father and aspire to achieve martial prowess similar to their father’s. The two bastards have specially trained in a way that complements the two when they fight together, working as a well-trained fighting machine. Though the two bastards stay in High Hill with their father most of the time, they are friendly with their distant kin and are especially friendly with Jon Snow, the three of them sharing in their status as bastards
The Starks of White Harbor, a merchant family, Ser Benjicot and his wife and children:
  • Ser Benjicot Stark (B. 261AC), Head of the White Harbor Starks family and a prominent merchant based out of White Harbor. Ser Benjicot otherwise called “Benny” by those close to him, is a prominent and rich merchant who took over the affairs of his family's merchant fleet after the death of his father. Ser Benjicot is an intelligent and shrewd businessman who strives to achieve all that he can, building his family’s wealth to even higher heights. Ser Benjicot is quite close friends with his kinsmen Eddard Stark along with his Goodbrother, Lord Artos Stark, the husband of his elder twin sister Alarra.
  • Cregard Stark (B. 281AC), eldest son of Ser Benjicot Stark, Cregard squires for his father and has been groomed since he was young to inherit the family trade fleet and the businesses that they own along with being schooled in the ways of naval warfare. Cregard often visits Winterfell to see his younger siblings along with Lord Alaric Stark, one of his close friends
  • Harlon Stark (B. 282AC), the second son of Ser Benjicot, Harlon has been fostering in Winterfell since he was ten and he was quick to strike up a friendship with both Lord Alaric Stark and Robb Stark. Talented with a blade and gifted with a silver tongue, Harlon Stark has all the qualities needed to be a successful merchant or whatever he may want to be in the future. If Lord Alaric Stark and his brother Cregard Stark are considered close friends, then Harlon and Lord Alaric could be said to be brothers in all but blood, with Harlon being like a little brother to Lord Alaric.
  • Alysanne Stark (B. 285AC), the youngest of Ser Benjicot’s three children and his only daughter, “Aly” as her friends and family call her, is a close friend of Sansa’s and is often attached at the hip with her distant cousin, learning the ways of being not only a lady by southern standards but also northern standards.
Ser Benjicot Stark's Siblings:
  • Lady Alarra Stark of the White Harbor Starks(B. 261AC), wife of Lord Artos Stark, and the older twin sister of Ser Benjicot Stark, head of the White Harbor Starks. Lady Alarra is a warm woman who gives off a feeling of tenderness and love, she is compassionate and cares for all of those who are under her Lord-Husband’s employ
  • Ser Edwyle Stark (B. 268-289AC), the youngest brother of Ser Benjicot and the youngest child of Ser Beric Stark. Ser Edwyle was knighted by his father Ser Beric at the young age of 15, despite his prowess with a blade, Ser Edwyle was killed by a stray arrow that found its way inside his helm during the siege of Pyke
  • Ser Torrhen Stark (B. 262AC), the Second son of Ser Beric Stark and the Sworn Shield of Lord Alaric Stark, Warden of the North, as well as his personal weapons instructor. Ser Torrhen is steadfast in his duties and takes his liege’s security extremely serious
Ser Torrhen Stark's Only Son:
  • Rodrik Stark (B. 279AC), the only son and child of Ser Torrhen Stark to his late wife, Lady Rowena Arryn of the Gulltown Arryn’s. Rodrik since he was a boy has been fostering under Horten Redfort, a friend of his fathers, alongside Domeric Bolton, while there, the two have struck a strong friendship with one another along with the sons of Lord Redfort
The Sons and Grandsons of Artos Stark.
- Brandon Stark and his sons:
  • Brandon Stark (B. 220-276AC) (Eldest twin son of Artos Stark), born the oldest of the twin sons of Artos, Brandon spent his youth in Winterfell growing up alongside his cousin, the future Lord of Winterfell, Lord Edwyle Stark, and his sister Jocelyn Stark. Following the death of his father Artos, Brandon set out to find wealth for himself and not be reliant on his lord-cousin. While traveling through the Northern Mountains, Brandon would meet his future wife, Sara Wull, the youngest child and third daughter of Lord Wull. Sara and Brandon would eventually fall in love and get married, setting out to adventure alongside one another. While on an expedition at the behest of his Cousin Edwyle to survey the mountains for any possible ore locations or anything to help the north, Brandon and Sara managed to stumble across a sizable herd of Furred Cows(Highland Cows) along with a small cave that led to a bronze mine. Seeing the value in this newly discovered hardy breed of cattle, Brandon reported back to Edwyle and they developed a plan to move these cows into a larger pasture area north of Winterfell just south of Long Lake in the Starks's personal lands, in exchange for enlisting the clansmen’s help in moving this new breed of cattle, Edwyle gave the small Bronze mine to House Wull who were closet to the mine. For the rest of his days, Brandon would oversee the breeding, herding, and butchering of the furred Cows in service to his cousin as well as Edwyle’s Son, Rickard Stark.
  • Eddard Stark (B. 241-260AC) (Son of Brandon Stark, Grandson of Artos Stark) the eldest of Brandon Stark’s two sons, Eddard had fostered alongside his younger brother Beron in Winterfell with their 2nd cousin Rickard. During his time in Winterfell, Eddard would prove to be a formidable swordsman and warrior but lacked a certain finesse that most strategists had. When the War of the Nine Penny Kings kicked off, Eddard marched alongside his liege Rickard Stark, his father, and his brother to aid their King. During the expedition to the Step Stones led by the Hand of the King Ormund Baratheon, Eddard Stark would lose his life taking a fatal blow protecting Rickard Stark, succumbing to his wounds shortly after the battle ended. Lord Rickard Stark would name his second son Ned in honor of his cousin Eddard.
  • Lord Beron Stark, Master of High Hill (B. 242-281AC) (Second Son of Brandon Stark, Grandson of Artos). Born the second son of Brandon Stark, Beron never expected to receive anything from birth except his name. In the year 257AC, Beron accompanied his father on a visit to Castle Cerwyn where he met and fell in love with Alys Cerwyn, the fourth daughter of Lord Cerwyn. With the blessing of Lord Cerwyn, Beron, and Alys would be wed the following year, and for her dowry, Lord Cerwyn would send some of his best smiths and workers to help with the settlement that was cropping up in the lands where the Furred Cows were kept. When the War of the Nine Penny Kings kicked off, Beron accompanied his father and brother to war led by his Lordly 2nd Cousin Rickard Stark, Warden of the North. During the battle where his brother Eddard would lose his life, Beron would be the one to cut down the sellsword who inflicted the fatal wound on his brother and would continue cutting down man after man in a blind furry until he was calmed by Rickard announcing the end of the battle. It was during this battle Beron would earn the moniker of “The Savage Wolf”. After the war had ended, Beron would return north with his father where they would continue their work in managing the care of the furred cows. Following his father's death in 276AC, Beron would ride to Winterfell to ask that his father's bones be buried in the crypt next to his father (Artos Stark), Lord Rickard would stun not only Beron but all those who were at court when he refused the request, though, it wasn’t out of malice or contempt, in fact, Rickard soon followed his denial by explaining that he planned to award Beron with a town charter and raise him to be the Lord of those lands as a Master, thereby making sure the land and cattle still belonged to the Starks of Winterfell but now had a defacto lord governing over the area and the budding town that was cropping up inhabited by the works, farmers and craftsmen and their families. Thus, Lord Rickard Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, declared Lord Beron Stark, the new Master of High Hill and instructed Beron to begin construction of a small Stone Keep with the help of some of Winterfell’s stone masons and builders, to replace the estate his father used to coordinate the running of the growing town that was once just a simple Farmstead. The now Lord Beron Stark would follow Rickards's instructions and make his way home, followed by a contingent of engineers and stone masons, who not only would begin construction of the keep that would be known as High Hill Keep but also the new crypt to be located under the Keep for the burial of the future Starks of High Hill. Following his new title as Master of High Hill, Beron Stark would take a new sigil for his branch of House Stark and it would be a Dark Gray direwolf on a field of light gray, the sigil being the original Stark Sigil but adorned in the colors of House Cerwyn in respect to his wife’s family and the late Lord Cerwyn. Only Five Years after being given his new station, Lord Beron Stark would accompany Lord Rickard south and be executed by the Mad King alongside his 2nd cousin and best friend.
- Benjen Stark and his son:
  • Benjen Stark (B. 220-271AC) (Son of Artos). Born the second son of Artos Stark, Benjen was raised at Winterfell with his brother and cousins. Benjen from an early age reveled in stories of naval battles and faraway lands like Yi-ti and Asshai, so when his father told him about the opportunity to head to White Harbor and apprentice under Lord Manderly in the way of the sea, Benjen jumped at the opportunity, leaving Winterfell in the year 233AC. During his stay at White Harbor, Benjen would become friends with and later have a crush on Alyssa Manderly, the second daughter and fifth and youngest child of Lord Manderly. On his 17 name-day, already a man-grown, Benjen finally worked up the courage to ask for Alyssa’s hand in marriage, to his surprise, Lord Manderly boomed out in laughter, not in ridicule or contempt, but in joy since in his own words “It was about damn time he finally asked”. For the dowry, Lord Manderly further surprised Benjen by giving him four merchant ships and a flagship of his own called the “Sea Wolf”, a war galley that had been constructed for this very moment. After their marriage, Benjen and Alyssa would travel all across essos only returning after she fell pregnant with his child. During the birth, Alyssa had almost lost too much blood and sadly was rendered unfit to have any more children but instead of feeling sad about that, Benjen and Alyssa decided to pour all of their love and affection into their new-born son Beric. After the birth of his son in 241AC, Benjen would spend the next two decades in Whiteharbor helping his wife’s family in their business and also helping with the education of Lord Manderly’s grandchildren, one of which, a young Wyman Manderly would become good friends with his cousin Beric and the two would be almost inseparable from one another. When the War of the Nine Penny Kings broke out, Benjen had sailed his ship the “Sea Wolf” into war alongside the royal navy where he and his son Beric, would fight against the Nine Penny Kings and any pirates who sought to attack the fleet. Following the war's end, Benjen would return home and live out the rest of his days with his family, investing in some businesses and helping his brother further the Furred Cow trade that he had started. Benjen Stark would die in his sleep in the year 271AC with a smile on his face, followed soon after by his loving wife.
  • Ser Beric Stark (B. 241-284AC) (Son of Benjen Stark, Grandson of Artos Stark). Ser Beric Stark was the only child of his parents so for his entire upbringing, he was afforded his parent's undivided attention when it came to his studies. As a boy and later into his adulthood, Ser Beric would learn the craft of the seas, how to sail, and how to become a successful merchant. Following the War of the Nine Penny Kings, after the Death of Maelys the Monstrous, Ser Beric would be knighted by Ser Gerold Hightower, the White Bull himself for his bravery and sheer skill with a blade. Although he had been Knighted, Ser Beric was still a devoted follower of the Old Gods and even brought up the notion of creating a northern knight order to his 2nd Cousin Lord Rickard, however, they never got around to implementing such a system. For the next two decades after the War, Ser Beric would expand his father's small merchant fleet, invest and set up more businesses, and become a patron of the Arts, increasing not only his own wealth but that of Houses Stark of Winterfell and House Stark of High Hill, along with this mothers house, House Manderly. Ser Beric and Lord Wyman Manderly were the best of friends, with the two cousins even going as far as to swear an oath of brotherhood with one another. This bond helped Ser Beric expand his fleet of merchant ships and even allowed him to construct a handful of cogs to help protect his merchant ships. Ser Beric would sail his father's ship, the Galley named the “Sea Wolf” for as long as he could until the ship had to be decommissioned, Ser Beric removed the wolf’s head that served as not only a figurehead but also a ram and had it displayed in his Estate in White Harbor. During his travels, Ser Beric meet and fell in love with his future wife Alayne Royce after finalizing a minor trade agreement with Lord Royce(Bronze Yohn’s Father). After getting married with Lord Royce’s blessing and returning to White Harbor, the couple would have four children, the eldest a daughter the younger three all sons. Ser Beric served in the Rebel's navy during Robert’s Rebellion and would be a part of the naval unit led by Lord Stannis Baratheon in capturing Dragonstone. During the final naval engagement of the Rebellion, Ser Beric sustained a fatal injury and died in his eldest son, Ser Benjicot’s arms. Ser Beric’s personal sigil which would later be adopted by his son Ser Benjicot as their family sigil, was the original Stark Sigil adorned in the colors of House Manderly in honor of his mother's family, and especially in honor of his friendship and brotherly bond with Lord Wyman Manderly
Sorry if this was a bit of a jumbled-up mess, I pretty much just threw my thoughts at Google Docs and here we are lol.

2024.06.09 09:37 074cry What the hell is going on (Pioneer PL-S40)

What the hell is going on (Pioneer PL-S40)
I got this turntable from a guy online and a while back already figured out that it was a bad deal for a scratched up turntable in need of optional servicing. I decided to make the most out of it for the meantime.
Recently it had an issue that was bugging me even more and more. It always had this soft buzz to it whenever it played records no matter which part of the signal chain is turned off (of course excluding the speakers), with a high pitched EEEEEEEE mixed in depending on its mood. The metal platter shocked me and whenever I got close to the cartridge/needle it would get louder. But when I connected the turntable into my UFO202 USB pre-amp ADC that was connected to my laptop running through a wall outlet (UK plug), it would stop making that noise and be silent as it could be. I still don't know what's making that noise and would also like help! The noise getting louder when my finger is close to the cartridge puzzles me especially.
After disassembling, ignoring the shocking amount of screws missing, I am wondering what that odd silver card was that is in the pictures too...
Would I need a grounded step-down power converter or something? I'm using a Fosi Audio X2 Box tube pre-amp (US plug) with Edifier speakers (EU plug) powered through an extension cord. Turntable powered through same cord with a step down voltage converter.

2024.06.09 09:35 sameed_a how to improve problem-solving with lean startup?

"I was nearing the end of my tether, feeling overwhelmed by the challenges my new startup was facing. It seemed like every day brought a new problem to solve, and I was struggling to adapt. My startup wasn't making enough progress despite the hard work we were putting in, and every little setback only served to make me more frustrated and anxious.
One day, while nursing a particularly strong cup of coffee (my third of the day, and it was only 11 AM!), I stumbled upon an article about the Lean Startup methodology. Intrigued, I decided to dive further into this approach. I spent the next couple of hours perusing books, articles, and YouTube videos, absorbing everything I could about Lean Startup.
Armed with new knowledge, I began applying the principles of Lean Startup to my operations. I enacted a build-measure-learn feedback loop, which taught me to treat every problem as a hypothesis that needed to be tested.
Instead of viewing issues as roadblocks, I started seeing them as opportunities to test my assumptions and learn something new. I broke down big, complex issues into smaller ones, making the process less overwhelming.
For example, our customer acquisition cost was through the roof. Instead of trying to solve the problem wholesale, I broke it down: Was our marketing ineffective, or was our target audience ill-defined? We tested various marketing strategies with different customer segments, continually adjusting our approach based on the results.
The best part about using Lean Startup was that it didn't feel like a distant methodology, but rather something that was a part of me, like my well-worn favorite t-shirt. It's a mental model that constantly reminded me to stay focused, pragmatic, and evidence-based in my problem-solving.
In time, I saw my startup transform. It was still hard work, no doubt, but the problems that used to overwhelm me were tackled with agility and finesse. We became more efficient, more effective, and most importantly, more resilient.
The transformation didn't happen overnight, and it certainly wasn't a silver bullet. But the Lean Startup methodology was a game-changer in how I approached problem-solving in my startup. It wasn't about avoiding problems; it was about learning to solve them more effectively.
P.S. - (laughs) Before you ask, no, this isn’t a real-life story. But hey, if you ever find yourself on your third coffee at 11 AM, remember, there's a method to the madness! Here's to using mental models and tackling those startup challenges like a pro!"

2024.06.09 09:32 TaranAlvein I'm currently running Dragonheist, and two of my players turned a run-of-the-mill sidequest into a legendary roleplaying session.

As stated above, I'm currently running the Dragonheist campaign, so if you're currently playing it and haven't at least completed the Zhentarim's second sidequest, I would advise against reading the spoilers.
The stars of this particular tale are a pair of evil party members: The jester, Stitches, and the former Zhentarim thug, Kanno. Stitches is a College of Lore Bard with the Charlatan background, whose favorite con was impersonating others. Kanno is a Fighter, whom I had worked out with the player to be a former follower of Manshoon, who left after a betrayal by his former master. As a result, Kanno was quick to seize opportunities to make money, which he needed for his revenge.
The party has just experienced the beginning of the "Fireball" event, and conducted a fruitful investigation. Afterwards, they were questioned by Barnibus Blastwind and Saethe Cromley. Once the two had left, Stitches' player asked me whether their conversation with Barnibus had lasted for more than a minute. I answered in the affirmative, asked why, and then suddenly realized that he could now impersonate Barnibus. I didn't expect that to come into play so soon, though.
The party's first stop was to meet with Davil, to find out what he knew about the Zhentarim operatives that were killed at the scene of the blast. Since the men who died don't work for him, that lead was a dead-end. However, I took the opportunity to provide the party with the second Zhentarim sidequest, to deliver potions for Skeemo Weirdbottle. Since the party couldn't think of a next step for their investigation, in spite of all of the clues they had gathered, they decided to do the job to make some quick change.
It was here that Stitches began scheming. On the way to Skeemo's, he stopped at another apothecary, and was able to convince the man to tell him what a Potion of Mind Reading looks like. He also explained his plan to Kanno, operating under the assumption that it would be a large shipment, and that nobody would notice if a bottle or two were to "break" or "be confiscated by the Watch" when they made the delivery. Fortunately, they at least had the sense to realize that losing one bottle out of a delivery of four was not feasible. It was my mistake to think that this would be the end of the scheme.
Arriving at the Godcatcher with their cargo, they quickly spotted the intended recipient sitting in a hire-coach. After delivering the box, the woman inspected the goods, then quickly handed the party their reward and told the driver to get out of there. It was then that Stitches acted. Casting Message, he informed the driver, "Eyes are on you, take a roundabout route." While I had originally intended for the driver to take a circuitous route back anyways (I assumed that the woman was already taking precautions, given the nature of the sidequest), I had Stitches roll Persuasion. His result was good enough that I decided that the driver wouldn't tell his client about the missive, assuming that he was being reminded of his instructions by a compatriot of hers.
Meanwhile, Stitches hailed another hire-coach, and informed the party that he and Kanno would be "Following up on other leads", and that he hoped to "Earn a little bit of a bigger tip", or something to that effect. I didn't really want them to try to follow her, especially since what they were planning was obviously going to involve committing a crime of some kind, but I also wasn't going to just give them a hard "No", so I decided to make it difficult.
First, I rolled to see how many turns would pass before they could get a cab, and got a result of 3. Well, that's to be expected, it's a pretty well-travelled area, so cabs should be readily available there. I then had the driver balk at taking them without a set destination in mind, since fares are negotiated and paid before travel begins. Stitches, thinking fast, tells him to take them as far as 1 gold would go, and given the cost of a hire-coach, I had him reply that, "Sure, you've got me for an hour".
Since the module doesn't really contain rules for a vehicular chase, and I didn't want to waste time flipping through the DMG looking for something, I decided to modify the chase rules found on page 72. I had one of them roll a d20 for the outset, and Stitches rolled a natural 20, so they encountered no obstacles leaving the square. But they'd still have to actually find their quarry's vehicle, since it was currently going around the square a few times, and ducking up and down sidestreets. Oh, no problem, a 15 and a 22 on Perception quickly spotted the woman's cab, and a quick lie about their intent set their own driver to following her at a distance of about 100 feet.
I then began a few rounds of rolling d20s to determine how the chase would go. After both their cab and the one they were following rolled well enough to avoid mishap on two successive checks, I informed them that their quarry had finally stopped its erratic travel, and was now moving straight up The High Road, seemingly now on its way back, and called for one more round of checks. My hope was that they would follow her home, see that they were messing with a noble, and back off. Instead, I rolled a 2 for the NPC's coach, while they managed to avoid mishap once again. Since they had just been asking their cabbie about possibly finding a shortcut to head them off, I decided that they would see the hire-coach ahead of them stopping due to a fruit-cart in the middle of the road having a broken wheel. I informed them that the coach they were following was waiting for a break in the oncoming traffic so that it could go around.
Once again, they defied my expectations. Playing their previous lie to the hilt, they departed from their cab and approached the stopped vehicle, where the dice gods granted their blessing upon the absolute Indy Ploy they rolled out. First, the two ducked into an alleyway, where Stitches cast Disguise Self to make himself look like Barnibus Blastwind. Then, using his Performance to do a bit of voice mimicry, he approached the fruit cart vendor, slipped him a silver piece, and started making a big production about "Reckless drivers these days!", and the negligent driving that damaged the wheel on this poor fruit vendor's cart!
I called for Persuasion, and with a 19, the fruit cart vendor decided that he wasn't one to say no to free money, and started playing along, albeit very passively. A Performance result of 23 ensured that not only was Stitches able to do a spot-on impression of Barnibus' voice and mannerisms, but that he was starting to draw the crowd's attention as well, just as he had hoped. Stitches started demanding compensation from the hire-coach driver, who was incredulous that he was being blamed for this. The fact that Stitches was demanding two Platinum as compensation only made him more certain that this was some kind of shakedown, and he adamantly refused to pay for something that he had nothing to do with.
For the lady's part, I rolled absolutely abysmally. A natural 1 on her Insight check led her to also assume that this was some clumsy attempt at extortion, and she chimed in that even if her driver had damaged the cart, he would only have to pay damages to the owner, not the exorbitant fee that Stitches/Barnibus was demanding. She also demanded to know exactly who he was. Stitches obliged.
...And here, ignorance proved to be a strength as well. See, Stitches didn't actually know Barnibus' last name. Nor did he know that Barnibus was only a consultant, and not a member of the Watch. And so, he introduced himself as "Inspector Barney of the City Watch". And the woman, failing yet another check, didn't question the obvious lie. And besides, as a secret member of the city's criminal class, she's not exactly looking for a confrontation with the City Watch right now. And so, the two started talking in circles for a bit, both the lady's driver and the lady herself being a little confused by what exactly Stitches was looking for, since even his own demands were, by design, self-contradictory and bizarre. The only reason they didn't just leave was because the traffic on their side of the road was at a standstill due to the broken cart.
Meanwhile, while Stitches held their attention, Kanno emerged from the alley he was observing from and slipped around to the other side of the lady's hire-coach. After ascertaining from him exactly what he intended to do, I had him roll Stealth, but informed him that there was a fair-sized crowd gathered, and that while the hire coach would block people from seeing him on their side of the road, and the oncoming dray would block the view from the other sidewalk, he would still be visible to the people on board the dray, and that a bad Stealth roll would mean that he's spotted.
So, Kanno steals up to the hire-coach. His intent is to try to sneak up, open the coffer full of potions, and swipe one. He asks where it is, and I decided that it was about a 50/50 that she'd either be holding it in her lap or having it sit on the seat next to her. I rolled a secret d100, got a 4, and had him call high or low. Kanno called low, so to his great fortune, the box was sitting on the seat next to the woman, who was currently engaged in a heated conversation with Stitches over the poor fruit vendor's cart damages.
At this point, I also had the cart vendor realize that this wasn't going well, and have him start to meekly assert that "It's not such a big deal", and that "I don't think they were the ones who even hit me in the first place", to put a time limit on this exercise. On the other side of the wagon, Kanno rolled Stealth once again to try to steal a potion from the box, and Stitches, running brilliant interference, hit the woman with Cutting Words to reduce her Perception check. It ultimately proved unnecessary, as Kanno's Stealth check was good enough to beat the woman's Passive Perception, but I wanted to highlight the move anyways, as it was a great assist.
And so, Kanno slipped away with the bottle tucked into his pocket, giving Stitches a wink to indicate a job completed. Stitches, playing along with the vendor's second thoughts, stated that "Since the man himself has decided not to press charges, I'll drop the matter", and departed. And just for the sake of adding a little flair to the scene, I described to the two how, as they were leaving, they heard the sound of a member of the City Watch arriving to direct traffic around the broken cart while it was being removed from the road.
And so, the two got away with their dastardly scheme. The woman completely fell for Stitches' trickery, and since he played his role so well, she now believes that "Inspector Barney", purportedly of the City Watch, has tried to demand a bribe from her. She never saw Kanno, and nobody noticed him stealing the potion from her box, so all she knows is that the "inspector", and possibly the fruit vendor, coordinated a scam to rob her of her potions. Additionally, since we were playing on Roll20, and I accidentally did a couple of the woman's rolls in the open instead of as secret GM rolls, they now have the OOC knowledge that they managed to get one over on the infamous Black Viper.
It wasn't where I was expecting that short sidequest to go, but it was one of the funniest and most memorable roleplay experiences I've had in a long time, calling to mind the absurd stories of the old ad hoc roleplaying sessions we used to do using the Dragonstrike game rules. I think it's a good example of how your players can disrupt your game in a way that's fun for everyone at the table, turning a nothing task into a fun story. They knew what they were risking, it was entirely in character for both players to do it, and they profited from their daring. And really, while she might be annoyed and want to find out who did it, I feel like The Black Viper could at least appreciate a robbery smoothly committed, and draw inspiration from it. Besides, I can't wait to find out how these two discover that their stolen "Potion of Mind Reading" is actually a Potion of Poison *evil laugh*.

2024.06.09 09:28 inthearmsofdyl Dream Segments

I had a few weird segments of dreams today. In my first dream, I was in a room with people, a few classmates showed up before I left. A german guy took notice of me, enamored. I thought about how I must ethnically look to him, wondering why he found me attractive. He let me go, giving me permission to leave the building. I saw a spanish girl who was one of my old classmates, about to give her a makeover. She asked me to give her one. I was already eyeing the orchid lipstick next to her, wanting to try it. I wanted to use it on her, wondering about what color nail polish was here. After talking with the man, I gave him a embrace, feeling his bald head against my arm. He also had a black leather coat/jacket. I asked if he liked david cross, to which he responded eagerly, amused.
I then found myself in a room with pedophiles, with other young people there. I was unsure if I'd get to escape or not. I made friends with a blonde girl that was there. She didn't seem to like me that much. I was able to convince a fat guy who was one of the pedos, to leave. I grasped his attention, somehow being too attractive or not for him. I don't remember if he liked me or not. He let me go. I found out while talking to the girl that Ben Savage had raped her in the ass back in the '90s. He tweeted about it, owning up/admitting to it. It was surprising for an actor to do that. I took off, finding the corridor in the mall that I always see in my dreams. It leads to a hall that I take, where all the '90s stores are. In the lobby, I took my favorite hall, running through it. I tried to get as far away from the nightmarish environment I came from, yearning to be safe in this safe place. I've done this before in past dreams. The mall is usually where I go if I need somewhere safe to hide.
I couldn't believe that I was dreaming, it felt so real. I thought about how I spend too much time at the mall, like a millennial/xennial. How often I can go to the mall. I don't do this in real life, the mall is one of the only good things where I live. I ran some more, nearly lucid. I don't remember how I transitioned to the next segment.
Back home, I was leaning against the wall. There was a pipe at my side. I was probably pressed up against the metal armrest on my bed. I vaguely remember a bowl of water next to me in the dream, worried about my collection of food getting stolen. I had a couple boxes of little debbie cakes. The newest one was a vintage looking box of valentine cakes or cupcakes. I recognized it from online, seeing it on google before. Late '90s - y2k era. It had pink iced on the cakes. The sprinkles were red, white, and purple. Maybe pink too. My mom gave it to me. 'Those are rare. That's the one from the late '90s..' I told her. She nodded, agreeing with what I was saying. She knew that the boxes she saw and wanted to buy were harder to find, like the brownies and cordials. This has happened in real life, except the cakes weren't a vintage formula. My brother tried to take some, after I even covered the boxes with a sheet. The icing on some of the cakes were wrinkled imperfectly. Just then, a volleyball style net took over the room. I leaned against the piping, dodging what felt like a spider on my hand. Tarantula. The room was now just me and my brother. A group of guys included, that I did not know. I ended up killing it, smacking the spider to the ground. Before I even knew what creature it was. I felt it's thorax slightly, picturing it's bottom as white with red square specks on it. I aggressively beat it away like a volley ball, killing the spider. I was shamed for it. It turns out, it was an ancient spider. A young version of my man approached me, sympathetically. I wrapped my arms around him, gently. He mentioned a list of animes to me that he liked. I saw blue popup bubbles form in the air. I don't remember what all happened. We sat and talked, until he got up and ran back towards his friends. Almost immediately, a guy that looked like a fushion of my partner and ex/my abuser, came up to me. He had very light blonde hair and glasses, like a typical nerd in a '80s movie or sitcom. He was domineering, making this the most uncomfortable segment of the day. I saw one of my old classmates again that was in one of my last dreams, who loves michael jackson. '90s makeup was placed around, lipsticks. Vintage. I grabbed at one that was in a clear tube, reading the number on the bottom. It was probably silver. So a maybelline tube. Frosted and brown colored.
I looked into a vanity that was infront of me, a full and wooden one. I think it was wood. I was looking for some liquid lipstick, hearing the guy who seemed like my partner say the words 'liquid lipstick' to someone behind me. I picked up a green lipgloss, liquid and in a small thin tube. I already had a blue-green lip stain on, satin finish. I applied the green to my lips, ruining the lipstick that was on before. And it was barely covering my full lips. It was subtle. The green streaked over my natural lip line, looking liquidy. One of of the two pictures ontop of the wooden dresser, a few feet away, was a photo of madonna. It had the words, 'natural beauty' on it. Her red lipstick was also liquid and overdrawn, clownish. Both ads had women with the same forehead length. Martian looking. There was a miniature figurine on the floor, along with wrapping papers and plastic underneath it. I was wearing a futurism outfit, with footy boots. Barberella vibes, I was getting. I heard the guy explain that he was a feminist, trying to virtual signal to the other women in the room. He mentioned creating something to spread awareness on endometriosis. Which I actually have. I took notice of the tiny figurine, unaware that he was approaching me. I immediately flipped onto my back, seeing my boots change. From futuristic and footed, to clear and translucent boots. With laces on them. He tied my boots for me, which embarrassed me. We made eye contact as he tied my boots. I laid on my back, looking at the miniature figurine, unable to get any look at it at all because it got wrapped up. Right as I turned my head to look. Across from me was another girl. I was not able to react, placed in a plastic seal. I got zipped up inside it, looking at the girl in front of me. In her own plastic sealed case. A bed inside it. Brown and 1960s era. It was like we were dolls, ready to be shipped and packaged for the toy store. I woke up after this.

What You Get:

~DIAMOND LEVEL:~ With Silver You’ve Got Your Hot Offer, With Gold You Become a Sales Rainmaker, Now You ~Create Demand on Demand~ – More Leads, More People to See Your Offer So Your Stripe and Paypal Notifications Go NUTZ Zongo…
NOTE if You’re New to PSM: The Phoneless Sales Machine is how we get leads from email, FB groups, Youtube, Insta, anywhere there’s an audience, qualify them over DM and then close them with Google Docs on products from $500 to $50,000 with NO PHONE CALLS!
Diamond Level entitles you to ~IMMEDIATE ACCESS to the Tried and True PSM 2.0~ + the keys to PSM 3.0 ~as it is being released!~

What’s NEW in PSM 3.0:

*NEW BREAKTHROUGH ONE: Big Ticket sales without phone calls ~OR~ tapping either! DM and Chat sales are super fun when you’re tapping in $500 to $50,000 sales in bed watching Yellowstone. With 3.0 I’ve totally figured out how to eliminate the DMing back and forth.
There’s still a time and a place for DMs.
But I’m gonna hook you up with examples of what I’m doing to make Stripe sing without the tapping 3 Step dance.
*NEW BREAKTHROUGH TWO: More leads. Pre-sold leads. ~Create Demand ON Demand!~ Whether you’re using 2.0 with DMs or 3.0, once you’ve got your offer working ~you want more eyeballs to see your offer~ – and with earnings per click in the $50 to $100 range that I’ve been able to hit with PSM 3.0…even 10 more people a day seeing your offer is an extra $500 to $1,000 in your pocket a day.
I’ve made new breakthroughs in getting those eyeballs by what we LEAVE out, not what we add in. By doing LESS content and NOT MORE…and taking what worked and cloning it into new lead flow.
Where I used to pull 3 to 5 leads from an email or post, I often pull 30 to 50 now…with LESS SWEAT creating posts, emails and content.
*NEW BREAKTHROUGH THREE: Get PAID to grow your list, group or audience. Some folks like to pay for traffic. Some like to get it “free”. I prefer to grow AND get paid!
I’ve figured out that growing an audience from the outside-in is slow like baking traffic in a conventional oven.
Growing an audience from the inside-out nukes up traffic fast like a micro-wave.
If there’s a faster and more CONSISTENT way to grow a group, email list or any audience, I don’t know what it is. (I’ve been at this since 2004.) I’ve doubled my group size in weeks. All it cost me was a Zoom call…then…I monetize the Zoom recordings into 5 and 6 figures.
And everyone THANKS ME!
I call this an Audience, Influence, and Income Multiplier Campaign. (AIM Campaign for short)
And as awesome as a bigger audience is…the best part is the explosion in your audience’s RESPONSE RATE.
Leads, sales, referrals MULTIPLY during and after the campaign.
I don’t see ANYBODY teaching this inside-out way to GROW AND CONVERT audiences!
*NEW BREAKTHROUGH FOUR: Turns More Cold traffic into Presold Traffic EASIER and often FASTER than webinars, strategy sessions, VSLs or anything else I’ve tried since 2004.
I will NOT reveal it here because I want this to be an edge for everyone on Planet Mojo.
But all I will say is: ~NETFLIX EFFECT!~
I can watch a cold visitor come into my funnel…watch them devour content…and next thing I know, they reach out in my DMs and say, “How can I work with you?” – I will show you lots of examples!
NEW and Expanded ~Million Dollar Template Library~:
At the risk of writing a doc longer than the a government bill…
Let your fingers do the walking in the million dollar library and you’ll find emails, social posts, landing pages, dm sales examples, objection UN-handling examples and entire campaign including emails, landing pages and more, ready for you to deploy. **One campaign did $250,000 from a list less than 9,000 with NO PHONE CALLS, NO WEBINARS, NO VIDEO AND NO DMing…Yours for the taking!

2024.06.09 09:13 DragonStryk72 Valoria Saga (Chapter 2)

Prev Royal Road Patreon
Karghol stepped forward. As Rob he might be scared, but he'd been the leader of the group for a long time, operating as our main tank across a ton of games, and now, I could see him taking that step again, "Okay, first thing's first. If they're gonna pop us out of this from the outside, then that's not on us, but we've all seen this anime. If they're not coming, then we need to get to the endgame as fast as possible."
"Nope," I shook my head, surprising even myself at how quickly I'd said something.
He turned, "What? I mean, we gotta get out ahead of this."
"In most games, I'd agree, but not here, not in this game. Also, side-point but decision time for everyone: Real names or character names? I can't keep flipping between them. Lugh is what's on my party registry, so I'm sticking with Lugh," It seemed small but wasn't.
I'd learned well enough that giving people all of the information was most often counter-productive at best. Giving people a small, immediate choice was far preferable and got them on the path to understanding better. Temur snorted slightly at the absurdity, "Well, I suppose you can call me either Temur, or Temur. Whichever floats your boat."
Several groans came out, and finally, some laughter. I mean, it was dad joke humor to be sure, but jokes were probably going to become a much more specific thing for us. From there, everyone chose their character names, either because it was simply easier given the nametags in our party rotation, or because they just didn't want everyone knowing their real ones. Khargol however, was a slight agitated, "Alright, so why not speedrun it?"
"Because speedrunners die and reset constantly."
The slight mirth died out in the room, but Khargol wasn't ready to yield the point, "I've watched you do a no-death run of Dark Souls!"
I nodded, "And do you have any idea how many times I died in that game getting to that level of skill? Look, this isn't Dark Souls. That game has set difficulty levels. Yeah, it's got solid AI, but here? The AI adapts to tactics, and I'm pretty sure the beta test players are about to learn that the hard way."
Everyone was a bit curious at the statement, but it was Shelara who spoke up, "What does that 'adaptive AI' mean?"
I sighed, and took a seat at the head of the table, with Khargol finally sitting down next to me, "It means the AI of the system is learning. Beta testers essentially get to play ahead of the general public to try and stress test the system under actual play conditions. Most usually, they'll try to learn as many exploits as possible, so even if they start out on brand new characters, they're still going to be far ahead of the pack, getting gear and coin ahead of others. Assume that the beta testers have watched things like SAO or other 'trapped in a video game' style series, and they're doing the same as Khargol is suggesting. Problem is, that's exactly what a bunch of them already did, and if the AI works like it's supposed to, then it's ready for them.
"For Valorian Saga, one of the biggest selling points was its adaptive AI system, a system that learns. What that means is that the system behind bosses has already learned those exploits from beta testers and has some sort of answer for them, and they're going to run dead into them."
Chrysta sat forward, leaning her elbows on the table, at least in part to show off her biceps, "Well if a speedrun is out of the question, then what do we do instead?"
Shelara cut back in, "But... shouldn't we try and go save the beta testers?"
I considered, "Shelara, in answer to your question, we can't. Even assuming we could catch up to wherever they're at, there's almost no chance they'd listen to us if we did. They're just as likely to assume we're rivals, or to think we're idiots, but regardless they won't be following our instructions just because we say so. As far as they're concerned, they already know this game, and we're a bunch of sprouts who are panicking. Even if we could get past that point, we don't know the game like they do, and we're more likely to end up needing saving before we ever get to them.
"As to the other question, Chrysta, what we do now is finish up the starter quests, then we use our flyers to join the militia."
Every MMO veteran groaned openly. Arkadi especially was annoyed at the concept, "Come on, man, faction-grinding on day two? We're not even out of the gate yet!"
I'd expected this, and checked my in-game clock, and swore under my breath. We needed to get moving, with only roughly eighteen minutes of daylight left, "Guys, that's why we need to join the militia. It's safe, and grinding up our faction rep with Valoria opens a lot of doors, not least of which is giving us barracks space to live in free of charge, basic equipment upgrades, and getting coin. That's just the short-term gains. Yeah, not much, but it gives us a foundation. We get the lay of the land, and we build up our strategies. There's another reason though, and it's important."
Khargol nodded, "As militia, we get arrest powers in line with the laws of Farrelston."
"Wait, we'd be cops?" Shelera seemed slightly hyped about the concept.
I nodded, "More or less. We aren't out in the main room right now cause everyone's losing their minds out there. They're all coming to terms with the idea that this place is where they might die, and that breeds desperate reactions. Fourteen million players split between fifty servers, giving an average server population of... two-hundred-eighty thousand per server give or take for server popularity. Assume maybe one percent of that go fully around the bend and get violent, and that gives us two thousand eight hundred violent criminals that just hit the city on this server that have the ability to level up within the system.
"Farrelston has to be a safe space for players to return to, but that can't happen if there isn't order, and that means law enforcement."
One of our newcomers made her presence felt, the elf woman from the cathedral, shaking as she spoke, "I'm Layala. What about my brother?"
Tom... "I don't know. I don't what happens to those who die in the game. Maybe they wake up, maybe they're just comatose in a hospital somewhere, or maybe they're gone."
I let it sink in for everyone. Layala's eyes fell to the table as she slowly wept. I hate this, but sugarcoating the thing wasn't good for anyone, "All I can work on right now is keeping us all alive. This is a fantasy RPG, so for all I know, there might be another way to get them back, but I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. Anyone who knows someone who didn't respawn, we'll keep a journal of names, to see that they're remembered. We chronicle the dead, and if the opportunity to get them back presents itself, we go all-in on it.
"I know we all have questions... but we can't stay here to answer them all, and I don't have all the answers for you. We need to start moving, and moving now. We've got thirteen people here, our five and the eight we added on. We've got enough people to form a guild when the time comes, so we should start acting like a guild now."
Layala's voice cracked, "I-I nominate Lugh."
I was startled. I've been very game-knowledgeable, but I wasn't the leader type. It was never my role in the group.
"I second the nomination."
Khargol. My head whipped around, "Look, guys, I'm not a leader. I know stuff, that's what I've got. Khargol's the one who leads."
Khargol shook his head, "Not here, not in this game. I'm all good for the tanking, but you're the only one of us who's putting out a plan of attack, and I'm getting more lost by the minute. It sucks dude, and it hurts to admit it to myself, but you're the guy this time."
Nods occurred, and by show of hands, I was almost unanimously elected to command the 'guild', minus my own dissenting vote. Well.... crapbaskets, "Alright, fine. I won't argue it, but we've gotta get a move on. Get the starter quests going, and when we unlock the job change system, we'll work things out from there. Until then, we'll break into three parties, two four-man parties, and one five-man. Khargol, you're in charge of the five-man, Temur and myself are the other party leaders for now. We'll meet at the barracks come sundown. We spread out the neos amongst the three parties so they're all protected, and we get started. Don't do any combat quests alone."
I picked up Shelera for my party's neo, along with Chrysta and Layala, and the parties agreed to meet up in front of the barracks around sunset so we could join up together. We fought the press of bodies in the tavern to get out into the streets, and headed off for our quests. I could feel my heart racing a bit, the whole thing feeling like some sort of bad dream, but we would need a minute to get things together, "Okay, let's check everyone's quest logs. Any shareable quests, share them with the group so we can all help out and get rewards. We tackle them from lowest to highest."
We moved through the streets to the first quest, running messages around the city for the heralds. The quest was designed to get new players oriented with the larger city of Farrelston and what factions existed within it. The vast majority of players though, were barely moving, either pressed into the tavern or milling about in front of the cathedral. This was a huge problem, and we were finding clusters of people around, hiding and trying to just deal with the enormity of it all. We were running messages to guards, merchants, and nobles on what was a very low-key questline while watching people crying or raging. Shelera moved up next to me, close to tears herself, "We can't do anything?"
a I halted, and looked around again, and noticed some people who weren't in groups. Solo players who had come in by themselves, the same as you'd see in any MMO, and now they were cut off from the world, friends, family, and no party. Solo players really only existed in MMOs, people who would just fill in the gaps, and otherwise keep to themselves, and it worked in the world of video games. In the real world, though, it wasn't good, "We can do a little."
I jogged over to where a powerfully built Dracon with a sword and shield was balled up on the ground, weeping, purple-scaled head buried in his arms. I knelt down next to him, laying a hand on his shoulder, "Hey, what's your character name?"
The Dracon boy looked up imploringly, his voice quavering, "Umbaar..."
"Hi, Umbaar. I'm Lugh, and these are my friends. Why don't you come with us? You can join our party," I kept my tone even by pleasant.
He nodded sheepishly and accepted the party invite, "My mom's gonna kill me. I wasn't even supposed to be playing the game."
Oh God, no, "How old are you, Umbaar?"
"I'll be fourteen in December."
Due to the nature of the game, the minimum age for Valorian Saga was eighteen. He'd likely gotten access to the rig, and just jumped on, and now he was trapped, "I'm sure right now, your mom's just worried about you, but we'll keep you safe. Come on, we've got quests to do."
The absurdity of our questing was fully growing with each step we took. After running messages, we helped the watch with investigating some local crimes to learn the search system, worked with merchants on trading to get the economy down, and along the way, we found some more solos to fill us out to the party cap of eight. The jobs were immaterial to me, but Shelera and Layala both found comfort in picking up more people, with the latter taking over care of Umbaar. NPCs went about their day's work, and I started to catch on to something, "Hey... is this day... running long to anyone else?"
Games don't use full twenty-four-hour days, using a shorter day and night cycle to give the impression of a world without having to artificially inflate the game to make it feel like a full day. Valorian Saga had, in the videos, been shown to have a twenty-minute day, and twenty-minute night, but as we ran around, it had been far more than twenty minutes now. The sun had barely moved in the sky, which given the rest of the game's level of detail wasn't something they would've ignored. Chrysta spoke up after counting her clock, "Uh... well dearheart, I do believe we've got us a twenty-four cycle now."
There were several possibilities to this, perhaps either our minds changed gear to work with in-game time, or the game had altered to have twenty-four-hour time. Either way, we had no answers for it. I was getting a bit sick of having more and more questions I couldn't answer, but I couldn't focus on it in the here and now. I called a halt, and we found a small corner tavern to get food and drink. I took some time with the menu system, and up popped the character status window.
By statistics, we were moving up a bit, but the main stats of our jobs weren't changing very much at all. My basic stats for movement had risen, but not by much, and the gain was tapering off. That was probably from all the walking around the city we were doing. Reputations were going up in the city guilds attached to our quests, but again, they were minor improvements, and the effective XP was tapering off from doing them. I took out my character journal, a system conceit by the devs that the game world was simply too grand in scale to not allow a lot of notetaking, and did stat-math just like when I would spreadsheet my builds at home. From what I could see, the game had no true 'leveling' system. Instead, skills and attributes were built up by how you played, sort of like in Skyrim, but the same actions would not keep getting you the same degree of XP. A common enough point, or else someone could pull a South Park and just merc wolves until they hit the cap. Abilities would unlock as your stats rose, some coming online automatically like Sprint, while others you had to find a trainer for, such as the Double Knock ability for archers. From what I'd seen online, the abilities would unlock advanced jobs, and certain combinations would unlock hybrid jobs, so a Paladin would be a combination of a knight and acolyte. None of the testers had gotten that far, however, they'd just seen the possibility of it.
I noticed Shelera leaning over to look at my journal, and I smiled, "Just doing nerd stuff, plotting my progression to figure out what jobs I need."
She smiled back, "That seems weirdly normal. What are you thinking of doing?"
"Well, for now, I need to move up my abilities as a Hunter, right? Hunter eventually leads to a few choices, so I'm thinking I'll probably go for a Ranger build. That means I can train up Yndress here as a battle companion."
Yndress had been flying about with me, and sometimes resting on my shoulder, and now, she was curled up by my arm on the table as I continued. Shelera reached over and petted Yndress, "That is so cool. She's so warm. I totally should've figured out a way to get the limited edition... so what should I be leveling up?"
"Well, you're a vagabond, so you might look at something like Bounty Hunter since we're working with the militia. Combine that with another job.... huh."
"What?"
Daeva grinned, "Oh, sweetie, he just worked somethin' out. What do you need, Lugh?"
"Give me a minute. I need to go to the scrivener," I shot up and stepped out of the tavern.
It wasn't far to the scrivener where I could buy the supplies I needed. We'd just done an ink delivery there, and now, I would need paper and ink to work with. Returning, I cleared off the tavern table and laid out a large scroll used for maps, currently unmarked, "Okay, I need everyone to bring up your character pages and stand where I can read them."
Gamers generally do have a sense of when someone's worked out an exploit, and this was one of those times. They brought up their screens so I could start marking down abilities, attributes, and skills. Of note, my Scibing ability was ticking slowly upward as I laid things out. Scribing could turn into runic writing and other more arcane and mundane pursuits. What I was working on became a skill tree system, with the various jobs being grouped together. I had to move things around, and in real life I wouldn't be able to do that with ink, but in the game sense, it was pretty simple. I kept moving around my drawing, finally starting to come into a workable initial system of abilities, jobs, and other things that built off of one another. It look a bit mad, like if no one had stopped the devs on Path of Exile's skill tree, but it was there, "We're thinking about this wrong. We need to get to the barracks. I don't want to explain this twice."
Banded back up, I stopped by our newest unlock: Carriage Stations. The city was entirely too big to be running around it all the time, and for just half a silver, we could go to any other ward in the city. I signaled the coachman, handing him my flyer, "Take us to the militia barracks."
The coachman nodded sharply, "Right you are, sir."
The coaches held four, so we split between the two, and I rechecked my numbers. I was pretty certain I was right by the math, but these things didn't always pan out like you wanted, so it was best to recheck. It still seemed to be working out like I thought, but I needed Temur for a blind study of it. We got out at the barracks, a building made up of fortified walls and barred windows with internal shutters. Militiamen NPCs were standing guard out front, while we could just see some working in the training yard to the side. From what I could see, however, we were the only players here.
Temur's party arrived first, and apparently, I wasn't the only one picking up strays as two carriages emptied of people. He was running a full party as well now, and grinning in his uniquely Temur way, even if he did have draconic features now, "So, I see we're all taking in the lost little lambs?"
"I mean, sure, why not? That's how we met, so why not do it here, too?"
He nodded, "Questing went well, if a bit hum-drum, but you have a look in your eyes that says you've worked something out. You got math time!"
I nodded, "Waiting for... yeah, Khargol went off-road, I see."
Temur and I had shown up with two carriages each, only for Khargol to pull up with four, all packed. That put our new numbers at thirty-two players as he practically bounced up to us, "What?!"
We both shook our heads, "Nothing, man. Never change. I've got some news for everyone."
The full mass moved over to the side of the building so we weren't obstructing the entrance, "Party people, I worked something out at lunch."
I rolled out my map of the skills tree, "Okay, so I was going over my character screen, and did some math. I know what we need to do: We need to move up on every job."
Khargol shook his head, "Isn't that gonna leave us as jacks of all trades? We'd be running pretty average."
I gestured with my hands a bit in dismissal, "Usually, you're right, but here, it's different. The stats aren't really separated here, they're intended for cross-classing, and it's not just the combat jobs. I moved up a bit at Scribing here, and it looks like it'll be the same for crafting and gathering jobs. Move up in X, Y, and/or Z jobs and you unlock a hybrid. So like, say you move up as a blacksmith, armorer, and weaponsmith. All three have abilities building into one another, and that can unlock further abilities, other jobs, a whole classification of things we can't see yet.
"Using abilities works up the stats associated with that ability, and the higher the ability, the more XP it generates for the stats. Those stats still stay there when you do a job change, so you could be a Gladiator working up strength by working the forge."
Shelera looked over the drawing, "Okay, so you think if we take every job up, then that'll make us a lot stronger? But won't we end up with a bunch of usless stats?"
I shook my head, "No, for two primary reasons. For one, what if instead of Paladin, you went something like a Hexblade in D&D terms? Or, Shelera, you take Bounty Hunter, then build up your hunter job to Scout, and you have something akin to a Justicar class? Or Khargol, what if you master every weapon group?"
Temur's interest was peaked at mention of Hexblade, "And what is the second reason?"
I sucked in a breath, "It's a job change system. There's a job change skill, and every basic skill I've seen has upgrades, even if I can't see the end of the trees yet. The adaptive AI is going to adapt to our individual tactics, but even if all of us were playing hunters, we'd all approach hunting differently, maybe more reliant on archery, or snares, or pets. It would force the AI to keep readapting its own tactics on the fly. If we build up, we might just be able to get to something better than the sum of our parts."
Karghol nodded, "And that makes it doubly important we get going on the militia stuff. Shall we?"
The lot of us went over to the barracks, where a guard greeted us at the door, "Hold, citizens. What is your business with the thirteenth Valorian militia?"
I stepped forward, "We're here to enlist for service."
The guard perked right up, "Ah, good. Greetings and well met! I am Sergeant-at-Arms Brant. We are in need of stalwart folk to help protect Farrelston and wider Valoria in these trying times. Dark things are afoot both at home and afar, and it speaks well of you that you would choose service. Please, enter the hall, and register yourselves with Yeoman Granger. Welcome once again, may the purple dragon fly eternal!"
