In the last few days, Literotica has received a number of messages from Wattpad authors asking about moving their works to Literotica. This appears to be a result of recent changes at Wattpad. This post will try to answer some of the most common questions authors affected by the changes might have.
Where AO3 specializes in fan fiction, Literotica has been publishing mostly original fiction works (much of it adult/erotic) for 25+ years. Over a million readers and authors visit our online community every day.
Literotica welcomes all new authors, no matter where you come from, but while we're fans of AO3's absolutist free speech policies, we have publishing guidelines that are somewhat more strict than AO3. Literotica requires that all story characters involved in sexual situations be at least 18 years old. That means that we likely cannot publish stories being removed from Wattpad for age-related issues. If your story is being removed just for including adult/erotic content, there's a good chance that it would be welcome at Literotica.

Literotica readers find stories through a combination of Categories and Tags. Unlike AO3, Literotica limits the number of Tags that you can add to a story - so it's important that authors select high-quality relevant tags to help readers find your work. It's a stupid idea but I wish to start an adult blog. I'd just be posting sex stories (real and fiction) like Literotica.
But my question really is. How easy it is to setup a blog like that. Do domain providers allow it? Do hosting providers allow it?
There would be no media material. Just text. Maybe, just maybe photos in the future if it truly takes off but none in the beginning.
Is there a way to be anonymous? Like I don't want creeps to track me or my location. I am not a techie and I literally just learned these terms like domain and hosting providers. I have a rough idea of how this all works but just looking for genuine suggestions.
If someone can point out any negatives or issues which might occur then would be great.

It’s since been removed and I can’t remember the names of them for the life of me. There first was one about a struggling theatre and how an actress and the owner of the theatre fell in love. Lots of plot and dead parent drama. They have a date in an aquarium. The other story was about 2 FWB. One of them catches feelings and chaos ensures. It was a big plot point that the one who didn’t catch feelings was super nihilistic about marriage and monogamy. Long shot, but worth asking.

Now that I have your attention, I don't mean "don't publish." I mean, don't write.
There are so many posts week after week where people have lost their work or at least access to their work for various reasons, because they use Wattpad as a platform to write. Don't do that.
Here are a coupe of hints:
What has helped my from sprawling across platforms and multiple folders and locations and everything has been this:
When you deem story good enough for publishing. here are few pointers:
Wattpad and Inkitt have sponsored stories that do pay you, but it's super hard to get in. (which is how you know it's not scam.) Inkitt has some paid tier for authors, but it's not required, and I have no idea what it does aside from more visibility that they say on the emails. I've never paid for it, and haven't seen any decline in readers.
Neither Wattpad nor Inkitt have basically any sort of community (anymore), so promoting your books on the platforms itself is hard. It requires constant work and you walk a (very) fine line of informing readers, and being annoying with announcements. You're better of marketing your story elsewhere, like here, on Reddit. (or Tumblr, FB, whatever you want.)

There are so many posts week after week where people have lost their work or at least access to their work for various reasons, because they use Wattpad as a platform to write. Don't do that.
Here are a coupe of hints:
- Write on a program that works offline. Doesn't matter what it is: A professional-grade writing app, Word, Pages, Notepad or a some random app that's designed for grocery lists. Doesn't matter. Write on it rather than Wattpad.
- Your stories are worth saving. Even if you think your story sucks, the least it did was to teach you to write better. It deserves saving. So, make backups. iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc. Every one of these is capable of live copies that sync between platforms. Even if your device explodes or falls into the core of the Earth, you still have access to your stories from online. Most of these also offer some kind of way to actually write online too (iCloud Web has Pages, Google has Google Docs, etc.) so as long as you have internet, you have access to your content.
- If you're more serious about writing, get a program designed for that. I'm not affiliated, but when I found the app that I've been using for years, it changed the way I write. The app also does automatic backups (not just live copy), so even if I make a mistake myself, I can rely on the backups. And because the backups can be saved on online platforms, you now have access to your live copy AND your backups in case something happens to any of the locations. Internet down? You have local access. Computer eaten by toxic bears? You have online copies.
- If your selected program allows, make a "scratch pad" style of place to write anything that comes in to mind regarding that story. I'm using Scrivener (again, not affiliated, just love the app), and I always set up a "Unrelated scenes" folder, where I can add snippets of the characters doing things -- even if it's totally unrelated to what's happening in the story. When the time comes, I can just drag n drop the scene into the correct place. Has minimized the amount of "oh I had an idea that would happen now, but I don't remember it anymore." I just write it down when I have the idea, and it doesn't mess up my story.
What has helped my from sprawling across platforms and multiple folders and locations and everything has been this:
- Everything starts from one file that has been -- expertly imaginatively -- named... "Ideas." For me it's a Pages document with working Index and each story prompt/idea starts from a new page.
- When I have an inspiration, I just start to write under the idea. I set a rules of "three pages." When the story hits three pages, it's serious enough that it warrants moving away from just Ideas. I set up a document on Scrivener called "Short Stories". This is a place where they and up when they reach three pages. It's just one location, and every little story is it's own "folder" or "chapter" or whatever you want to call them.
- They stay there until they reach a new rule: "three chapters." When a story hits three chapters, I remove it from "Short Stories" and make a new document for it. (Or if it's under some existing series, I add it to that document.)
When you deem story good enough for publishing. here are few pointers:
- Wattpad is good for non-sexual, non-adult stories. Wattpad's current "fad" is romance, werewolves/vampires, (Update 03/2024: the fad now seems to be Mafia/Romance) and "bad boys." If your story has any or all of these, it'll probably do well. Wattpad users don't like long chapters, so I suggest keeping your chapter length under 1500-2500 words. Longer than that, and you'll lose readers.
- For slightly more leeway, there's Inkitt (my personal favorite). Inkitt still has rules and you can't post pure porn, but it has more categories and broader allowance for smut and gore. Inkitt also has a "review" feature that I absolutely love. Reading good reviews has saved my life a couple of times. (not necessarily figuratively...) There's less of a direction of stories on Inkitt, or then I'm just not aware of it. People tend to add your stories more to reading lists than on Wattpad. The voting mechanic is also more nuanced than on Wattpad.
- For those who write fanfics, there's always AO3. I don't write it, so I don't really know much. Other than from other users who says that if you write fanfic, the best place by far is AO3.
- For.. uh.. more spicy content that doesn't shy away from graphic descriptions of carnal knowledge and may possible not have that much plot (or at all), there's Literotica. It's far older than any of these other sites (I wrote my first story there more than 15 years ago.) They are rather strict about formatting and keeping inside their rules, but those are reasonable ones. You can write clear porn, and it'll do fine. But as with everything else, no pedophilia (which is just a good thing. If you write that, contact a therapist.)
- There are a couple of others, but I have even less knowledge about them.

About nine months after we moved in to our new house, I was awarded tenure. Brooke and I celebrated with dinner at a nice Italian restaurant in the next town over. In Arthurian England, it was considered deeply dishonorable and shameful, indeed emasculating, for a knight to ride in a cart, a conveyance used by peasants and prisoners. Lancelot was willing to endure this permanent emasculation, never to be seen the same way again by his friends and rivals, to save his lady; nevertheless, Guinevere punishes him when she learns that he hesitated momentarily when getting into the cart, refusing to even look at him. In other words, Lancelot willingly emasculates himself for Guinevere, yet she still punishes him for not being eager enough to emasculate himself for her. Even after she finally forgives him, she continues to cruelly exercise her power over him by ordering him to perform poorly at a jousting tournament. Other scholars, of course, had written about the influence of medieval courtly love on the subsequent literature of sadomasochism – indeed showing a direct line between The Knight of the Cart and Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s Venus in Furs. However, I intended to go much further, analyzing many other texts (and even plays and movies, eventually), over the centuries, up to and including the rich contemporary body of male masochistic fiction found on social media sites such as Reddit and on on-line fiction sites such as Literotica, Fictionmania and Nifty Archive that had become so prevalent in recent years.

Speaking of Madeline I am a big big fan of Yandere girls and I hope the MC can get her sorted in a better trajectory. She is the definition of villains are not born they are made. I guess two of my peeves were they made the only unattractive girl (the aero engineer who is a throw back of Gadget from Rescue Rangers) a aggressive lesbian. Like seriously there was no need to do that . The other being I was not a fan of how fast the relationships seemed to move. Madeline got to build some Hope made sense but Addision felt rushed. I really hope the author does not add anymore potential love interest (MC has a whole ass fighter wing of unique girls for the author to develop) so that way we as the reader can actually get to know the characters. I do like how the author makes James really consider how not just the Nazis would screw things up in Crestia. When he starts thinking like The images of what I had seen that day in Kampf’s mind ran through my memories again, causing me to shudder. I had not been in this world for long, but I had met some interesting people, and the thought of the Nazis turning this world into their home away from home disgusted me. I wondered how my government would have reacted if they had been the ones to find the gate to this world first, especially since it was right in our front yard. I wanted to believe we would have done better by the people of Dione, but I wasn't sure.I was just thinking that he should already know. The MC was NOT rando special forces bad ass that was trained by ninjas. I was a fan of the tactics and the actual human emotions that the MC shows. I am also a fan of how the author was not in a rush. We get to learn who the players are in this story we get to learn about the world and what is at stake win or lose. We also get to see a Henpecked Odin so that was nice as well. The one thing that did feel rushed was Veserick. She went from willing to blow her brains out to being cool with the MC in less then a week. It felt jarring unless her goddess did something more then just making her MC's servant. I know she says her family's motto is I have grieved, I have accepted, I have let go, but it still felt rushed. Either way a excellent story that I am fearing wont be continued anytime soon (been almost two years). I don't see anything else written by the author on their amazon page and no emails from their mailing list. Some have said that they are busy writing a story that is in the same world but different people right now. Anyway this is what I read this week. I recently bought 'It Ends With Us' & 'It Starts With Us' for my 21yo daughter. Like many her age she's not read much since leaving High school, so when she asked for books (one of my passions) as an early birthday present I was overjoyed, & rushed to order them.
She started reading but quickly found herself being pulled out of the immersive experience, not by external forces but by the sheer volume of errors in spelling / formatting / punctuation / typos that seem to abound them both.
As an avid reader of the Literotica website I regularly find similar issues, but am happy to take into account that those stories are written largely by amateurs, self-published &, most importantly, free - not (apparently) edited, proofed, published and costly volumes.
I am absolutely appalled that these works are being foisted on the paying public in such a state, and gutted that her introduction to the joy that is reading as a young adult has been marred with substandard products.

One glaring thing that stood out was that he brought Fiona whos talent is to read and manipulate emotions to speak with the police chief VS Samantha who can read minds. Later they try top hand wave it away saying Samantha can only do that to people who she has a personal connection with....but if she fretted about Chrissy's disappearance as much as the author would have had us believe then she would have been al over the precinct. She would have had that connection...we see that because she has almost 0 connection with Mohala yet she can read his mind some. Anyway will I read the next book..yes. It's good filler for that inbetween time when other authors are not releasing anything. I believe he once said his characters were a Chad with a heart. Annabelle Hawthorne I pretty much dropped her stuff since I started Home For Horny Monsters when it was on literotica. But since Rechan, recommended it I figured why not....and I am so so so glad I did. Eli is someone you can find in almost every VA or VFW or American Legion in the US...or sadly on the streets as well. Both these authors captured pretty well not just the alienation felt but also the disassociation. It's really hard to relate to someone without that shared experience. Not only are the love interest well crafted and executed but the children in the orphanage is as well. From angsty teen boy to valley girl. The way you see the children progress and hear them discuss their future makes sense and sounds like real kids. My three standouts are Mayari, Slypnir (I too would ask for a napping class) and Jaysen. That poor boy Jaysen really needs a win. Mayari is going to drag him to greatness weather he likes it or not. Mayari is the reason actors say they wont work with children or pets...she steals every scene she is in. The one Eli uses enchanting is one of those eureka moments like why has this not been done. Yes we seen enchanters do temp buffs in other novels and maybe even tattoos and such...but to go how he did it was a cool way to go about it. You can tell that a ton of love and effort went into this work. It shows through and through and this is a big big recommend for anyone that has not read this series yet. Two gripes though is with the audible portion. First why is the male narrator doing the girls interludes. These are the girls thoughts and feelings and motivations yet Jessica Threet is not doing them....that just stands out as a glaring misstep. Second the Male VA was messing up on some names like calling Cyrus by the name Hebus a few times. This series is so good I was about to jump on their Succubus Summoner but the first review I read says that the authors spend the first 50pages and the last 50 pages shitting on religion as a whole. I try to avoid stuff like that personally. The only one that is convinced that Duncan is not a Paladin is him. The only ones convinced that Kithani's a angel is him as well. The characters of this book have a stand out quality of being consistent. They are who they are. There is no I was a strong intelligent woman who was kicking ass right up until the MC showed up...now I cant remember to breath in or out unless they tell me. The women do really kick ass. No wallflowers here. These ladies know what they are doing know what thier goal is and how to get it done. Vess is skillful, willful and reliable. Kithani's personality changes when she does and has a solid reason wise that makes sense in the world. The story felt like a solid story then they through spicy scenes on it. It really should have been broken up into two longer books though I think. That way they had time to flesh out the characters and give the relationships time to marinate. Even the other Male characters in the book are not cheeseball douchebags meant for the MC to show how bad ass he is off them. They actually have motivations that make real world sense. I'm writing a medium-long story for Literotica. I have written other stories with Jewish characters and had some success with them because It's not a focus of the character. It's a happenstantial attribute.
I've recently started this medium - long story and I've been wanting to put an Islamic character in some of the same odd situations I've put my other characters.
In this case, a precipitous marriage to a normal Joe Protestant character. I want the marriage to be true to some Islamic traditions but not oppressively so. Meaning, it's precipitous, for plot reason so It has to happen super fast.
My problem is I don't know how to get advice from a person who's Islamic about two things: one, are the Islamic characters depicted in vaguely realistic ways, and two, is the action going to be seriously insulting to anyone.

I've recently started this medium - long story and I've been wanting to put an Islamic character in some of the same odd situations I've put my other characters.
In this case, a precipitous marriage to a normal Joe Protestant character. I want the marriage to be true to some Islamic traditions but not oppressively so. Meaning, it's precipitous, for plot reason so It has to happen super fast.
My problem is I don't know how to get advice from a person who's Islamic about two things: one, are the Islamic characters depicted in vaguely realistic ways, and two, is the action going to be seriously insulting to anyone.
