Hi guys. Spoiler alert for Sharat Chandra Chattopadhay's "Pather Dabi". Please go back if you haven't read the novel.
I read Pather Dabi in its Hindi translation named "Path ke Daavedar" (I don't know Bangla). It was my first ever novel that I read in Hindi language.
The first half was great and I immensely loved it. But the second half went half over my head and half pierced my heart. But I couldn't understand it totally.
I went to Wikipedia page for the novel and read the "Synopsis" section there, so that I could understand what I've read better, but was shell shocked to find that there it's written that Apurva and Bharti went with the Doctor to China, but I nothing was written in the last pages of the novel that could indicate such. I'm now in brainfog since I can't understand what happens to Apurva-Bharti at the end.
I posted it here since I thought someone might have read the novel here. Please tell me what happened to Apurva-Bharti at the end? I know he returns to Burma, but did he marry Bharti? Also what the hell is the deal with Shashi? Why is Doctor shipping him with Bharti? Please help. Thanks a lot!

TLDR - Ok how would you confess to you dad if you got into a top engineering college in the US with 1.4 cr scholarship? and i have 8 days to commit while he thinks ki i'll be cracking jee advance for sure
I have been really bright kid in academics(and in other activities as well 9th class se hi coding and all kar raha tha kafi internship bhi ki unpaid and vagarh vagarh) in my whole family and when my cousins got into iit with really good rank so it was always clear i'd be joining a coaching and prepare for advance(not even mains everyone thought mains toh nikal hi lega).
And the preperation i did...bhai vaha jake pta chala jee kya cheez hai phele mai #1 section mai tha and kuch hi mahino mai mid second section mai a gya, dad ko laga ki reshuffling hui hai unfair, and studying aborad was not even a choice for me and i never thought about it as we come from a middle class family(sach mai hu bhai vo UIUC post wala toh kothi bangla wale hai or UIUC scholarship bhi nhi deti) then i got to know about studying abroad and i knew bhai ki this is what i'd be good at and coaching wale jo dost banaye ho phele se hi jane hi wale the abroad so they helped me a lot. rest "preperation" abroad is a long ahh story
I applied to many schools(only top niche ones which we all know about)in the US and it didnt worked out well for me, ek do admits mile but scholarship bina koi chance nhi tha jane ka.
or main ki halat bhi normal hi thi above 80 % tile the but i obvisouly lied and told above 90%(and kaha shift vagarah bekar thi meri) kyuki papa nhi sahan kar pate agar sach batata toh...
mujhe paka bharosa tha ki i'll improve and wisely apply to schools now.. ek do offer toh mil hi jayenge and like any other jee aspirant ghar walo ne kaha drop lele, or mujhe pta tha ki this is the last chance i have. fir se pura restructure kiya application ko or din raat apne ECs (extracurricular activities) pe invest kiye while my family was thnking ki jee ke liye gand ghiss raha hai(i was in coaching centre so they wouldnt know). yr dhoka toh kafi diya hai but i knew it'll all be worth it in the end if i just carry on on my dream.
preperation is a long ahh process and i wont get into it but fir decisions aye and oh man i did it!! i got an admit letter from one of the top engineering school in the US, bhai uchal pada tha mai or bas park mai jake baith gya chup chap koi nhi tha share karne ko expect a few "friends" i made during this journey. All along mummy ko toh maine convince kar hi liya tha ki mjhe abroad hi jana hai or results ke bad mummy ko bataya toh mummy bhi bhot khus hui but even my mom didnt have courage to tell this kush khabri and we have kept this a secret till now bas talte rahe ki badme bta denge, mummy boli beta bas ab jee pe focus kar or aram se bta denge jee ke results ke sath. and mains mai toh mere theek a gye this time above 90% ttile somehow.
Ye story ko mai ek breif version bhi nhi kah sakta kyuki pta nhi kya kya kiya hai maine to get to this stage, JEEtard or MITard dono ka down and achi side dekhi hai, family pressure and all toh bas jhel hi liya
while my friends were all enrolling into good indian colleges like teir 1-2 mai jo class mai topper tha vo drop le raha tha or as time went by sharam ke mare baat bhi nhi ki apne dosto se, i regret this so much now.

Initially I was getting posted at Bhopal and I was happy. Closer to delhi rahta but ab mumbai ho gaya hain mera. 🙄 Weird feeling ho rahi hain.
I know I will adjust . I dont expect muchin life and abhi to at peace with it tbh and Ghar to mera Delhi hi hain , no doubt aata jaata rahunga , but main Delhi metro , DTC , delhi ke momos , CP wala area ko bahut miss karney wala hoon. 😢 Yesterday I just randomly hopped in a DTC cluster bus to Patel Chowk. Then strolled around a bit around Bangla sahib and CP. Then 2-3 baje apne colleagues se Mila. Chimney Sizzlers se 4 plate momos mangwae. Evening mein Blue line se travel kiya to Rajendra Place. Then E-rickshaw se Shakti Nagar tak aaya.

Paharganj a locality which was made to relocate the existing Bazars around Bangla Sahib in 1920's-1930's to accommodate one of the costliest shopping districts in the world Connaught Place. Due to it's vicinity to New Delhi Station, with the time emerged into the hotel/guest house district of Delhi. The place is not far from Delhi Sarai Rohila and Old Delhi station too which makes it an attraction for tourist, also the place houses a large number of budget hotels so it is bit economical though. Karol Bagh is also not too far which also house number of hotels. Paharganj is also famous for it's market and too. This post is all about Paharganj questions and answers ;
Q1. Is it safe to stay at Paharganj with family or as a solo traveller ?
Ans. Yes, there are lots of good budget hotels here where you can come and live with family and for solo backpackers too. You can anyways check the room and ambience before finalizing it ( if hotel doesn't let you check the room, don't go for it ). This is a budget hotel area so you might not find lavish facilities there but definitely a decent room will be there. If not able to find any you can move towards Karol Baag but the price will increase.
Q2 [IMPORTANT]. I have heard a lot about Oyo scams and 'Massage' centers of paharganj, is that area still safe ?
Ans. In family friendly hotels, if you are with family staff will not initiate the massage talk, though you can be asked for by hotel staff or random guys on road if you are solo, you can politely say no and leave. You might see parlours and things happening around you but just ignore, thinking as a collateral of your budget stay. But if you are solo and you fall for this massage thing, it can be anything from a minor overcharged scam (the guy who approached you will ask for a sum of money, you will agree and pay, now the woman can be different or will ask you for more money and people in heat of the moment pay that/ you just pay and guy left and then no one came) to Blackmailing and other things, so the more you are aware about this chances you will be safe. You can also be a total buffoon and readily fell for this thing and get scammed. Oyo scams also happen there it's better you check your booking and call the hotel. I am not denying that these don't happen, but it can happen anywhere. Any hotel district in any city have same environment, even Mahipalpur in Delhi has more or less same ambience and incidents.
Q3. How to commute and what is advantage of Paharganj ?
Ans. Through RK Ashram metro station on Blue Line, next station towards Noida/Vaishali is Rajeev Chowk, the Yellow Line interchange, two staions ahead is Mandi House, the violet line interchange. These three lines are enough to commute at almost everywhere in Delhi, also you can use other interchange as well. You can also get Bus service from Paharganj to most of the places. Sadar Bazar the cheap wholesale market is just near paharganj, paharganj is very close to Karol Bag, CP, Bangla Sahib, Laxminarayn Mandir, Jhandewalan, even Old Delhi. It is almost at the center of Delhi. New Delhi railway station is just in front of Paharganj. even Paharganj main Bazar has a good shopping stuff but most of which is hippie style but it is good. Bargaining is an art which is appreciated here
Q4. Is food good at Paharganj ?
Ans. Yes, iconic Choor Choor Naan, Sitaram Diwanchand ke Chole Bhature, Radheshyam Subhash Kumar ke chole Bhature, Banke Bihari Samose all are here in Paharganj. You can find good North Indian food, Nepali food and north eastern food here as well also typical Delhi street food. The place has Delhi Chabad House, lots of Jew people come here so you can find Mediterranean food here as well, all Kosher. Multani Dhanda is another famous food street.
Q5. I have seen that movie 'Pahargaj', have heard about different crimes here ?
Ans. Is there a place where there is no crime ? certainly not and yes this place has lot of influence of crimes but again, if you are aware and attentive and just mind your own business without showing curiosity about what is happening and why it's happening, this place is safe and secure. Which anyway is the thumb rule of survival in Delhi.
PS : STILL STAYING AT PAHARGANJ IS YOUR OWN WILL AND DISCRETION, ALSO TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS BEFORE GOING FOR ANYTHING.

I was a young man & had started exploring Delhi as more of a tourist. I would go places and all these gullies & old heritage buildings became a passionate hobby. One of these days, I went to Shri Bangla Sahib in the heart of the city. Took off my shoes and gave to the sevadars in the allocated spot. Came back & got restless they couldn’t find my shoes fast. I am sorry but here is what I said & it still sends shivers through my body even though 15 years have passed since: “Dhoondho jaldi. 5500 ke shoes hain”. The man who probably arrived for Seva in a Mercedes looked at me in disgust but did not say anything. I weigh my words before they sputter out now.

Asking for a friend (really). Oke book fair theke ekta boi gift dite hobe nijer female best friend ke (more than a best friend bola jete pare). Bujhe uthte parche na kon boi debe. Best friend er boyesh around 28 more or less. Preferably bangla boi but english o cholbe. Help!!!
