2024.06.09 13:09 CascadianHermit My take on the subscription among other things

So I've been watching BWB since a young age, this channel is a big part of what really got me into cooking and food, being able to scroll and just watch non-conventional recipes really changed how I thought about cooking, I think everyone here can agree that BWB is a big part of the culinary side of YouTube!
But recently I do think not just the quality of the content but the soul of the channel has changed quite a bit, (I'll be honest I haven't watched a video in a while so I checked a few out right before this) while I don't think it's as bad as some people are saying it is, BWB hit a downslope of sorts once it rebranded to the "Babish Culinary Universe". The overall feeling of the channel has shifted from "guy in his house making cool food" to "guy and new guy sometimes make cool food and sometimes do algorithm hungry junk" no hate on Alvin, but I don't understand why his thing has become such a big part, I watch BWB partially because I like Babish himself! I also personally think the switch to a "corporate model" has sucked even more soul out of the channel, did we ask for 2 or more videos a week? I would've been more than happy with the same if not slower upload speed as at the height if we could've at least kept going how it was, and I do understand the want for growth of your business but you can do that without changing the channel fundamentaly, YouTube is a special medium where you CAN do crazy rebrands, but usually at the cost of losing that core audience you had originally.
I'm kinda rambling now so I'm gonna keep it short and sweet, the paywall on the website really isn't that big of a deal IMO, but I agree with what a lot of other people are saying. It will likely get more expensive, especially as the channel becomes more business driven; most other culinary creators don't paywall they're recipes so what makes these so different; I don't know why he needed to do this big change anyway, the big issue was the mistakes in recipes, that can't be very hard to fix? The change in paywalling the website isn't just about the cost of the recipes, it's a small part of a bigger issue people are feeling.
I'm gonna stop before I ramble even more, if Babish sees this, thank you for all you've done for me personally and others, your videos aren't just entertainment or recipes, they are ways to get all people excited about cooking. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wafu pasta is stirred with sweetened rice wine, Dashi broth, soy sauce, butter, and mushrooms such as Shimeiji and Shiitake after it has been cooked. So, if you want to create it at home, feel free to use anything you have on hand.

10. Yasikoba- Fried Noodles

Yakisoba is a beautiful noodle dish that is stir-fried—pork and vegetables such as onions, carrots, cabbage, salt, pepper, and Yakisoba sauce. Beni Shoga, Aonori, mayonnaise, and Katsuobushi can all be used as toppings.
Yakisoba is made by sauteing a form of Chinese noodles known as "Chuukamen," pork, vegetables, and a special sauce. The noodles are made of wheat flour rather than buckwheat, despite the name.
Furthermore, You can find yakisoba throughout Japan at food stalls, fairs, and festivals (matsuri). It's also known as "Yakisoba Pan" and may be found in convenience stores. Also, the vendors frequently serve stir-fried noodles in bread or hot dog buns.

11. Tokoroten- Seaweed Noodles

Tokoroten is an agarophytic algae-based pasta that the Japanese have consumed for over a thousand years. Also, Tokoroten was frequently consumed in the Edo region after being introduced to Japan by China during the Nara period.
Furthermore, Traditionally, the pasta was created by boiling tengusa and served immediately. You can identify the appearance of kanten, jelly, or agar-agar through freezing. Tokoroten noodles were made as a result of their strong resistance.
Moreover, Tokoroten can be served either warm or cold. It's finest served as spaghetti with a blend of vinegar and soy sauce and nori, pepper, and sesame seeds.
Tokoroten is done as a dessert with kuromitsu in the Kansai region. Without a doubt, this is one of the different types of Japanese noodles.

12. Instant Noodles

Instant noodle is a common ingredient in Japanese cuisine. Also, Instant noodles appear to be available in every country.
Momofuku Ando, the founder of Nissin, was the first to invent this noodle in Japan. They come in a variety of tastes and varieties.
There are two types of instant noodles based on price. Some of them are inexpensive, costing between 100 and 200 Yen. Instant noodles will be more expensive if they have additional toppings. Their costs vary between 200 and 350 Yen.
Furthermore, the flavor of instant noodles is excellent. Everyone loves them since they simply take a few minutes to prepare.
They do, however, contain a significant amount of sodium, fat, and other unhealthy ingredients. Also, this is one of the different types of Japanese noodles that are not highly recommended for consumption.

13. Chanpon- Pasta Cooked in Soup

Chanpon is a noodle dish from Nagasaki. In Japan, Korea, and China, there are several variants. Chinese cuisine was the source of inspiration for this meal. Pork, shellfish, and vegetables are fried in fat and served in a bone broth.
Furthermore, the chanpon is served with noodle soup. Because the pasta is cooked with the soup, only one pan is required, unlike other ramen recipes. The components and the flavor vary depending on the season, place, and situation.

14. Shirataki- Konjac Yam Noodles

It's fantastic to be able to eat noodles without worrying about gaining weight! If you enjoy that type of experience, I recommend Shirataki. "Ito-Konnyaku" is another name for it.
Because the konjac yam is very low in calories and carbs, it also contains a high amount of fiber.
Furthermore, Shirataki is available in both dry and moist forms. In a liquid, wet Shirataki simmer. If you acquire this variant, deodorize the noodle by washing them before cooking. You can keep it for up to a year.
Sukiyaki (hot pot), Nikujyaga (meat and potato stew), and other dishes are made using this noodle in Japan. After draining and drying the noodle, they also roast them. Noodles lose their bitterness when they are roasted. They then serve it with sauce or soup.

15. Sanuki Udon

Sanuki Udon is a Kagawa Prefecture Udon variation. It was given that name because Kagawa's previous name was "Sanuki."
Sanuki Udon is distinguished by its noodle strands. They're square and have a chewy texture. Dried infant sardines make up the broth.
In addition, this is one of the different types of Japanese noodles that we use two methods to serve. Also, they can directly pour the broth into the boiling strands and eat it like regular noodle soup. Alternatively, they can dip the strands in a broth-based dipping sauce.

16. Toshikoshi Soba- New year's Eve Noodles

Every Japanese person eats Toshikoshi Soba on New Year's Eve. It is a symbol of endurance and strength. This is a classic Soba noodle. It is made with the essential ingredients of Soba noodles.
Eating soba on New Year's Eve dates back to the Edo Period. People eat it to wish for a happy, tranquil existence.
Because the noodles are easy to break apart, they give people the impression that they have overcome adversity during the year.
Also, Dashi broth is used in the soup. Only chopped scallions are used as a garnish. You can also add raw eggs, Tempura, and Kamaboko fish cakes to make them tastier.

It had been a few weeks since Altier was brought to the run-down shack that his black-scaled companion likely called home, and he could now comfortably say he was accustomed to the…household’s routine. The kobold typically left at the crack of dawn, returned a little after noon, and occasionally left again to forage until nightfall. When the weather was bad or there wasn’t a particular need for something, they half-heartedly chased their rabbit around for a bit, which usually ended with a bout of quiet petting while everyone got ready for the night. It was always amusing to see the energetic side of what he had come to know as a relatively lazy loaf of an animal. As for the routine of the ferrorabbit in question… Well…it was at least more interesting than expected.
Hoppit would begin his own series of activities as soon as his caretaker left—the first of which being a check of every nook and cranny in the shed. He sniffed at anything that caught his interest, varying from morning to morning, but he gave every object or corner its due attention. Once he was satisfied with that, he would eat some of the ragged plants that made up most of his diet, take a drink from his bowl, then jump onto the tro— table and plop himself down, his ears pivoting towards the door. It was hard to say if the lounging spot had been established before Altier’s arrival, but it was somewhat amusing to pretend that the little rabbit was standing guard over his core—if it wasn’t for one particular part of the morning ritual, that is.
Indeed, the ferrorabbit had a habit of licking the obsidian orb that sat in the middle of the room, which thankfully didn’t seem to perturb the system enough to give Altier a headache. He was confused when it first happened, but it was commonplace enough now that he barely acknowledged it. A part of him liked that he was getting attention as a core, even if it was delivered via a strange grooming method. The closest he got to being acknowledged as something other than ‘the dungeon’ was through an unfortunate misunderstanding that he could never properly rectify. He supposed that was hardly worth thinking about now, though; too much time had passed for there to be anyone left to correct. The little oddity of his mornings would have to suffice.
There wasn’t much to comment on as far as the rest of the day’s happenings. Hoppit would end his loafing by shaking his head and ears in a way that filled the silence with soft clacks, give the core a customary tongue bath, then jump off the table to nose his way out of the shed through a hole that was hidden by the storage cart against the wall. Where the rabbit went was anyone’s guess, but he always returned before anyone noticed he was gone, and often did so while covered in small cuts and scratches. Any blood from the lacerations was quickly licked off before it could be seen by the kobold, and in the event that the scaly caretaker happened to return earlier than expected, Hoppit would scurry over to the bundles of blankets to finish the cleanup in secret.
Today looked to be following the usual pattern. The kobold left bright and early with various gardening tools and a wooden pail, and Hoppit had since set off into the great unknown for one reason or another. Hopefully, he returned less injured than usual. It was frustrating to admit that Altier had begun to grow rather fond of the fluffy creature, and seeing the thing come back hurt was bothersome. Was it off looking for food? There wasn’t a whole lot given to it, so that was a possibility, and it could be getting into fights over whatever it found. That still didn’t explain why the animal was so thin, and Altier didn’t have enough to go off of to think of a potential solution. He wanted to help it in some way, like by summoning a creature to act as an escort, or maybe just by manifesting something edible like he once could. No, he could only stare at the ‘Synchronizing…’ that occupied his menu, wishing he had more information to work with.
He never thought he would miss the bombardment of notifications and their lingering presence that filled the edge of his mental vision; at least with that he could surmise enough to hazard some kind of action. Even knowing why the menu was acting the way it did would be a start. Yet, try as he might, there wasn’t a history for him to reference anymore, and he had nothing to work with. He was confident the last message had asked him to ‘accept’ something, then took his befuddled ponderance as an answer, but he was no closer to an explanation for what it wanted, nor why it prompted him in the first place. He just didn’t have another experience to compare against, since nothing like that had ever happened before. Not that he was ever in much of a position to allow it.
The entire purpose of having Altier inhabit a core was for him to become a dungeon of Decay, which entailed all the skeletons, poisons, acids, and whatever else came to mind when one pictured the concept. ‘Living’ creatures were something he only had the chance to experiment with near the beginning of his new existence, though he never dabbled past the first few insects before transitioning to the mindless undead. Having a thinking, feeling, breathing entity touch his core was a rite reserved only for the adventurers and soldiers that bested his trials, and that was usually a painful experience. Now, he had spent what he could only guess was hours being held by a kobold, followed by having a rabbit bump against him, and neither felt like what he came to expect. Instead, both had led to a completely novel reaction from the system. The strange circumstances put him at a bit of a loss as to what it all meant for him.
Sure, he could dismiss the deluge of errors from his companion’s involvement by pointing to the numerous ‘corrupted’ messages before it, and Hoppit was a part of mostly unexplored territory, but the lack of clarity nagged at the back of his mind constantly. Being exposed to activity after potential decades or centuries of unchanging solitude made him despise the informational dead end. If he couldn’t make sense of the rabbit’s circumstances, then he didn’t have much hope of deciphering the reason for why his system was misbehaving so terribly. He also didn't know much about the one who owned the decrepit holdings he was housed inside.
He still wasn’t sure what drove the kobold to take him from the cave. His suspicion of becoming traded goods fell flat after the first week or so, and he hadn’t noticed any cult-like behaviour, which was promising. Granted, a lack of nefarious behaviour didn’t mean there was a lack of nefarious intent, but he didn’t get the impression his companion held that either. The kobold itself didn’t seem quite settled on an opinion of his core, though it was up for debate if the hesitation was due to knowing what he was or not. They seemed to mull something over before bed each night, yet never reached a satisfactory conclusion, staring at the obsidian orb through weary grey eyes until they eventually forced themselves into sleep.
Whatever the underlying reasoning for his abduction was, he had observed enough to know that the kobold didn’t deserve to live in destitution. As beaten as the shed might be, they cared for it as best they could, and did so without a single groan or grimace of complaint. The floors were cleaned with a tattered rag and fresh water, dust was removed regularly, and any stray mess that Hoppit made was dealt with promptly. They even took the time to wipe off his core, which was possibly where the ferrorabbit got the idea to start licking him. The only time Altier had seen discontent from the kobold was when they didn’t find much during their foraging, and thus couldn’t give any treats to the excited and bouncy herbivore.
He wasn’t aware that a creature’s face could make such a painfully broken expression, and he was quick to decide that he never wanted to see it again.
Vexingly, his metaphorical hands were tied; a dungeon could only influence their Domain, and given the state of his system, not even that option was available to him. All he could do was glare at the rotting wooden beams that held up the roof and remember when such an issue didn’t exist. It would have taken a mere flicker of thought and a paltry sum of mana to mend the struts when he was a proper dungeon. He could even outright reinforce the structure by weaving in other materials, leaving the appearance as it was while making everything stronger than iron. Well, he once could. Working with other affinities was something that came to him after absorbing the coloured motes left behind by adventurers, and the accursed stone that stole his mana had taken that ability as well.
An attempt was made anyway, his will ordering the deteriorated wood to absorb any trace metals from the ground, but it was no use. He couldn’t feel the iron or stones beneath the shed like he would have been able to before, all but confirming his suspicion that his connection to the Earth element had slipped away. Nature was much the same; the only way he knew when Hoppit had returned most days was from the subtle noise and the essence of injury. The other attributes—Air, Flame, Luma, Shadow, and so on—were ones he never experimented with to any real extent, so it was less noticeable when he lost his grasp on them. Perhaps they faded early. Either way, all he had left was a waning cognizance of his own alignment, and that wasn’t of much use to him. If he had any appreciable mana income, then perhaps he could do something, but he wasn’t even sure what the upkeep of his current Domain might be. It was entirely possible that he was running on a deficit, which would offer a reason for why his system had been so—
[Do#$@n Ex@#d$%^&d! CRe@#r H-H-H-HoPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP—]
[Errrrrrr—]
[Sy$%^hroni%^$zing…]
[Creeee-tu— Hoppit ha@$ esttttb-hed terrrrrrr-ity f^#% t$e dun@&$n!]
- - - - -
Well then,” he mumbled to himself, taking in the strange scene behind the shed. For one, he could actually view a small distance beyond the structure now, and two, there was a rather proud-looking Hoppit sitting on his haunches before a pair of significantly less prideful examples of the species. They looked quite a bit bigger than the lazy loaf Altier had come to know, yet they were more cut up and dejected than his furry friend. That answered where the injuries had been coming from, he supposed. Hoppit was probably running off to bash heads with whatever animal population existed here beforehand, and they had only just reached a consensus on who was in charge. Impressive.
One of Hoppit’s ears turned back towards the shed, his head following suit as he gave a lagomorph’s approximation of a ‘Look what I did!’ smile. Altier blanked out mentally, but didn’t have time to question anything before the new leader of the local rabbits imperiously pointed a paw towards the surrounding forest, which was equally surreal to witness. Most surprising of all, the…subordinates? The other ferrorabbits did as commanded, keeping their forms small as they took off into the foliage. Soft clacks came from Hoppit’s pleased shake of his head, then he too left the area with only a slightly lopsided bounce to his stride.
The man-turned-core could only gape at what he saw. Were animals always so…expressive? Had Hoppit heard him? What in the world was happening? Why had Hoppit’s personal conquest led to Altier’s Domain expanding?
He lamented not having fingers, nor temples to rub with them. His system was a garbled mess of errors and inconsistent messages, his residence was falling apart at the seams, his companion was someone who abducted him from the dungeon, yet never did anything past that, and his first real experience with an animal was turning out to be more confusing than he thought possible.
All of this was after an unknown amount of time spent commanding legions of undead to strengthen the very people who he would later learn had lied to and manipulated him, making him into a nightmarish entity just to bolster the power of their forces. He almost missed the days spent gazing out of a mossy window. At least then he knew what to expect.
Nothing made sense anymore.
= = = = =
The soft sound of roots ripping free from soil suddenly stopped, only to be followed by a dull thud of Ceele’s palm slapping against the ground to catch her fall before she landed on her rear. She righted herself with her tail and tossed the stubborn weed into a pile with the others. No matter how many mornings she did this, they always seemed to replace themselves faster than she could remove the pesky things. A sigh slipped from her muzzle as she set about grabbing the next one embedded in the vegetable garden.
Aches and spreading stiffness flared up, but went ignored as she neared the end of her duties, though she was well aware that they would come back with force once she tried to settle down for the day. The impending soreness was an inevitable byproduct of spending so much time working. Still, she knew that if it wasn’t for the kindly old couple that allowed her to call their shed home, she would still be sleeping beneath the stars while making sure nothing tried to get at her Hoppit. Even if it was just a part of the deal, they were owed this much in return, and she would see it done properly.
The sun bore down on her back as she did her usual tasks, which was a departure from the slightly overcast weather as of late. It looked somewhat promising when she checked in the wee hours of the morning, yet as her gardening duties dragged on, so too did the intensity of such a clear sky. A disappointed glance at the empty wooden bucket on the edge of the field was quickly corrected. She hadn’t thought to refill it at the river after watering the crops, and her parched throat was making its protests known, while also reminding her that there wasn’t much water left at home either. One more thing to take care of when she was done.
A gruff cough brought her attention towards the old kobold resting his back against a tree some distance away, safely shaded from the unforgiving rays beaming down. Her displeasure at having yet more to do was hastily wiped away. She was undecided on what to think of the detached audience, but looking so sour while upholding her side of the agreement wouldn’t reflect well on her. Hopefully, he hadn’t seen it. Not that she could tell if he did; he always had the same expression when he watched her work. The elder kobold’s arms were crossed, a finger tapping absently against his bicep, while his tail sat motionless on the grass, the muddy red colour of his scales standing out amongst the greens and browns. ‘Makis,’ was his name, assuming her memory served.
Makis had taken to observing her every so often, usually propping himself against this or that at a distance, the unwavering scowl being as unnerving as it was belying of his age. Somewhat loose skin sagged a bit around his jowls and neck, yet the rest of his face was still taut from how much time he spent examining red-hot metal, and his arms were marred with countless burns and cuts from his profession. He held an oppressive aura, though the crinkles around his eyes and muzzle suggested he smiled as frequently as he glowered, even if Ceele was yet to see the former. There was only the same judgmental expression aimed at her when he was around. She could only hope that he didn’t take offence to some unintended slight, but she didn’t know him well enough to say what might be considered one.
They hadn’t spoken since she took up residence on the outskirts of his land. His wife was the one to introduce them, but it was quickly established that he had no intention of being a chatty individual. He led Ceele to the shed hidden amongst the trees on the edge of the property, then dismissed her with only a grunt coming from the elderly kobold. She supposed that it was for the best. Her experience in socializing was centred around convincing others to employ her, and there hadn’t been much of an opportunity to expand her horizons while living a life on the road. If that had been the end of their interactions, she would have swiftly written the terseness off, but he appeared every few days, taking up residence beneath the shade as he watched her work, never speaking a single word. At least he didn’t openly protest her presence, yet she figured that would be easier to manage. He wouldn’t be such an enigma then.
There wasn’t a whole lot she knew about him besides his penchant for ‘supervision,’ and anything beyond that was what his wife had volunteered during the rare opportunity they had to chat. She was told that Makis worked the smithy out front, and although he had retired from doing so in an official capacity, she could still regularly hear his hammer as she tended to the garden, so she figured he kept himself busy most days. It made her wonder what was so interesting about a vagrant like herself, but when there was so little else to do, she could see how anything could be made worth the attention. It was just him and his wife living in the once bustling home, after all; the couple’s children had long since grown up and made families of their own.
She noticed his gaze shift elsewhere as she tugged yet another stubborn intruder from the soil, his arms falling from across his chest and the perpetually worn displeasure melting to that of curiosity. He wandered off shortly after, and she had to make an effort not to fall onto her tail as the pressure on her shoulders unexpectedly evaporated. Did something happen?
Ceele shook her head free of the distracting thought. It wasn’t her business if he grew bored with watching her work. As long as no one voiced any complaints, she could only assume that she was doing a satisfactory job. Maybe he finally decided that he didn’t need to be so watchful because she was doing well! That could be it, right?
A glance at the somewhat sloppily maintained garden erased the false confidence from her face, but she was just as quick to focus on finishing up, unwilling to allow darker musings to fester. Thankfully, there didn’t seem to be anything else that needed her intervention. The weeds were all uprooted, the soil was appropriately dampened, and her check for pesky insects or wildlife turned up nothing to worry about. She was free for the rest of the day!
…Or she would be free—as soon as she finished the last of her tasks, anyway.
The black-scaled kobold got up from her crouch unsteadily, shivering and wincing from the pins and needles in her legs. She would have to remember to stretch more often; it was far too easy to forgo that kind of thing just to make the overall work go slightly faster. Her hand reached out to grab the pile of weeds and put them into the bucket as she ran through what needed to be done before she could properly relax. Hoppit’s food needed to be washed, she needed to bathe, and they were running low on water anyway, so she would have to visit the river. Just the thought of dragging herself into the forest again made her muscles protest, but she wouldn’t have the energy to do it later. She forced the smile that had started to fall and took the first of many steps.
- - - - -
The river wasn’t too far away, only taking a few minutes of traipsing through the dense woodlands until she reached her destination. It was an idyllic little spot. The trees thinned out to allow a grassy bank along the water, and there was an appreciably gentle slope from shallows to depths, making for a convenient place to take care of various needs. She had discovered this place during her travels, and it was where a kind older woman found her.
Ceele was washing off at the time, with Hoppit safely taking shelter from the outside underneath the bundled blankets while he waited. The trickle of the stream brushing against rocks covered the sound of footsteps, so she was rather surprised when an aged voice called out to ask if she was okay. Her first reaction was to distance herself and apologize—the why didn’t matter, but she had learned that most people were more lenient of her presence if she seemed apologetic for it, and she usually was. The elderly kobold just laughed at her scrambling, tacking on an assurance that there was no need for modesty. The woman was blind, apparently, which explained how Ceele’s blackened colours hadn’t deterred her.
Strangely enough, there was a comforting sense of ease around the one who introduced herself as Hira. It was a sort of presence that Ceele could only vaguely remember, and it drew her close enough to speak as she finished bathing. The conversation wasn’t anything profound, of course—they hardly delved deeper than surface-level small talk—but Hira lost her smile as she listened to the younger kobold. By the end of it, the old woman posed a series of questions with a dark inflection to her voice, and Ceele struggled to find an answer.
‘Are you tired of looking for something that only slips away? Are you tired of running? Do you really want to be scared and alone?’
If the silence bothered Hira, then it didn’t show. She had simply held out a hand and offered Ceele a way of life that didn’t involve wondering where she would be spending the night, nor entailed cowering in the brush while fearsome predators roamed freely. It would be a simple existence of few fortunes, but it was safe, and it was honest. All she had to do was say yes.
Ceele denied it at first, partially because she knew most people despised Hobbit's species, and partially because she couldn’t shake the offer being too good to be true. Hira was quick to propose a compromise; Ceele could take residence in the gardening shed that had fallen from use, and to satiate the nagging sense of an unfair deal, she would be put in charge of maintaining the garden itself. All Hira wanted was to ‘see’ her favourite space bloom again, since she couldn’t take care of it anymore. The black-scaled kobold stared longingly at where Hoppit was, his little body shivering from the prolonged cold and fear that he would be hurt if he left the blankets hiding him. It was with a heavy guilt that she accepted Hira’s offer, keeping quiet about her true reason for doing so.
That was in the past, however, though she thought about it every time she stopped by and saw the smooth rocks where she and Hira first met. Eventually, she might gather the courage to admit that she was housing a ‘pest’ and beg for forgiveness. Until then, she would just work her hardest to prove it wasn’t a mistake to give her a home. That her endless efforts weren’t meaningless. That Hoppit deserved to be more than a ‘pest.’
That Ceele was more than something she had no control over being.
She cleared her head a bit and started on the reason she came all this way. Her dress was rather easy to wash in the meandering water, and the trees provided a suitable place for it to dry in the sunlight and light breeze. The weeds were fine with a thorough rinse near in the shallows, but taking care of her own hygiene required her to wade farther in, though it only came up to her chest in the middle of the rill. Still, she could scrub off the soil and grime, which was all she really needed. Perhaps some simple soaps would help rid her of the pervasive black that stained her skin and scales, but that was beyond her meagre means for the time being, as well as being mere wishful thinking.
She worked past the dreary mindset that settled in when she allowed it, focusing on how serene the river was. The soft birdsong from the trees helped make for a peaceful experience, and she could feel the somewhat chilled liquid basically pour into the aches and pains throughout her body, washing away the stiffness from spending so long under the unerring sun. It was nice to escape reality and let thoughts drift while held buoyant by calmer waters.
Yet the bliss was short-lived. Even if winter was gone, spring was still far from warming the waters enough for her to laze about for too long. She dragged herself from the soft current and fetched her dress from the low-lying branch she left it to dry on. It was still a touch damp, but it wasn’t anything a bit of time in front of the fireplace wouldn’t fix.
Ceele was only a short distance away from home when she heard a gravelly male voice, but it was the flicker of sight between the trees that made her drop what was in her arms and lunge into a sprint.
Makis stood just outside the gardening shed, a ferrorabbit held at arm’s length by rusty crimson hands placed on the scruff and haunch, the rabbit’s little ears flattened as fear filled its tiny face. Her eyes widened further when she noticed the small stains of blood in his light brown fur. They found out about him. Ephemeral claws of blackness clutched at her soul, ripping the very fabric she was made of as an unseen beast smiled, eager to take yet one more thing from her. Her Hoppit. Her baby. Her everything.
Hoppit!” she shrieked, her words all but tearing out of her throat in desperation. Frozen blood coursed through her veins, yet poured into exhausted limbs. She broke through the treeline with no regard for the branches slashing against her flesh, panic making each sting fade before it could be processed. The grizzled glare of the older kobold snapped towards her, his usual scowl picking up an actual air of intensity that she never thought could be absent, the promise of violence lurking in his eyes. She skidded to a stop a few paces away, the lump in her throat threatening to clog her airway. “S-stop hurting him!”
“Didn’t,” he barked back, his tone even yet firm. “Cuts ain’t me. I’d’a done worse if’a had ta mind ta.”
The blatant declaration snapped her from blind panic, although his apparent anger didn’t do her fear any favours. “B-but… Then how…”
“‘Hoppit.’ Named it, did’cha?” he grunted, ignoring her confusion and bobbing the rabbit to get her attention again. His gaze shifted back to the animal, the flames of ire cooling slightly. “I was wonderin’ why yer plots ain’t dead yet. Suppose this critter’s why.”
One of her hands hesitantly reached out until she pulled it back, while the other clutched at her chest to stop her heart from hammering against her ribs. She couldn’t act rashly. Not while her baby was in his arms. “I—”
“Soft thing, ain’t it,” the elder kobold commented curiously, cutting her off.
“Y-yes?” she returned reluctantly, struggling to stop herself from lashing out to reclaim the ferrorabbit in his grasp.
“Like fine silk.” Makis tipped and tilted the animal, inspecting this and that with a deep-seated frown, all while Hoppit silently looked to her for help. The pit in her stomach grew. She needed to get him back, but how?
Ceele swallowed the dense dread as she tried to formulate some sort of plan, stumbling over her words and forced smile. “I-it’s nice! Isn’t it nice?”
His eyes snapped back to burrow into her own with hatred. “Wasn’t a compliment, girly.”
“B-but you—”
He released Hoppit’s lower half to jab a claw at the various spikes around his body, plying them with minimal force. “Look. See this? These’r suppose ta break bone. ‘Specially when he’s stiff like this. Ain’t no way I should be able ta bend ‘em. He’s barely more than a walkin’ carcass—all skin ‘n stick. He’s gonna get picked up by a wandering pecker if he keeps pissin’ about out ‘ere. It’s a wonder he’s still kickin’. What’cha feeding ‘em?” His gaze dropped from her face to the rest of her, disgust curling his muzzle into a snarl. “N’ver mind. I can guess.”
She felt the dampness build at the edges of her vision, unprepared to not only worry for Hoppit's immediate health, but also to face such harsh criticism while she was so vulnerable. “I… I try to make sure he has…”
Makis crouched to release the ferrorabbit onto the ground, Ceele dropping to her knees the moment he did. The terrified lagomorph wasted no time, bolting towards his adoptive mother and leaping into her arms, shaking uncontrollably. The rust-coloured ‘bold stared as she started soothingly stroking the animal’s back.
“Yer given’ em the weeds, aren’t ya?” he stated rather than asked. She gave a teary nod when her voice wouldn’t respond for her. The old kobold drew a breath, letting it go in an exasperated sigh as he stood back up, his expression becoming more impatient than antagonistic. “What else?”
“I— Um…”
“What. Else?”
“W-whatever I c-can find!” she sputtered out. Hoppit tried to hide against her neck, prompting her to tighten her hold. She couldn’t stop herself from shrinking, the guilt and confusion pulling her head down. “R-roots, vegetables, fruits… I give them as often as I can.”
His glare continued unimpeded, his cadence cold. “That it?”
There were a million things Ceele wanted to say. A part of her wanted to beg him not to kick them out of the first safe place she had in longer than she could remember, but she couldn’t find the words. She wanted to deny the judgmental tone that stabbed into her insecurity surrounding how good of a job she was doing with Hoppit, but the deadened void in her chest swallowed her pride whole. She knew he was right to critique her. That she was failing in the only thing that mattered anymore. That the feeling of loss would return.
“I try,” she whispered through the beginnings of a sob. “I try to find more, but he needs someone around, and I have to work the garden, so there’s only so much time I can spend looking. He won’t even eat all of what I bring back…” Tears dripped off her cheeks as she aimed a desolate smile at her furry friend. “He wants to make sure I have some too.”
“Yer killin’ em,” Makis pointed out plainly, crossing his arms. “He’ll be dead ‘fore the summer at this rate.”
I know!” she shouted, forcing back the memories of insidious murmurs that lurked in the back of her mind, eager to creep into her ears again. The hate-filled stares that followed her, the rumours that arrived in towns before she had the chance to make an impression, and the guilt that loomed over her like an executioner's axe… “I know I am… I just… I don’t know what he needs. I don’t know how to make him happy…but I try. I’m trying…”
“…Yer an idiot, girly.”
She looked up to see the elder kobold walking away without another word. Her eyes fell to Hoppit, the ferrorabbit pressing himself against her as much as he could. He was small, thin, soft, and growing weaker by the day, but he never let it keep him down for long. No, he always showed his best for her, giving her joy that wasn’t provided anywhere else. She saw the thin cuts and dried blood, though she didn’t know where they came from, nor how he got out of the shed in the first place. But that was okay. Hoppit was okay, and she had Hoppit, so everything was okay, right?
…But how much longer would everything stay okay? How much longer until her efforts weren’t enough, and she was left desperately reaching for fading memories of what once was? How much longer until she killed her baby too?
How much longer until she was alone again?
Soft footsteps drew near, pulling her from the spiralling thoughts that threatened to gnaw at her soul. Damp, blurry eyes fell on Makis returning with a small wooden crate, the older kobold stopping a few steps away. He dropped the box, a deep, rattling thud produced as it impacted the ground, making Hoppit flinch in her arms. Ceele blinked as she kept him calm, then blinked again, looking up at the man for answers.
“The name, girly,” he spat in irritation. “Ferrorabbit. Ther’ Earth aligned creatures; they need metals. They don’t care where they get it, but they need lots of it. Iron, copper, tin, lead—raw crystal, if they can find it. You name it, they’ll take a chunk out of it. It's why they bother farmers so much; the best soil’s usually top’a gem deposits, ‘n the little bastards have no issue burrowing deep to get it. Dries up the element’s energy ‘n makes the crops weak.”
Ceele’s mouth opened and closed, each unsuccessful attempt to speak making her feel smaller and smaller. More and more lost. Why was he telling her this? How did he know? What was in the—
He kicked the crate with the side of his foot. “Scraps. Don’t’cha look at me like that. I’m a smith, girly. I might be old and retired, but I still work a forge. Now, this ain’t anything pure—it’s just slag and hunks—but I’m sure the critter won’t mind. Your little gardenin’ project pays off, ‘n I’ll see which of my contacts can get in some better ore.”
She ripped her eyes away from the box and met the perpetual scowl of the old kobold, seeing a warmth behind the hostility that she had never noticed before. “…Why?”
He scoffed in amusement, which looked somewhat menacing on such a hardened expression. “Yer a touch stupid, girly, but the missus adores ya, ‘n yer a good worker.” A shadow of a smile formed on his face. “Hira spent more evenings asking ‘bout how the plots are doin’ than I got time in the day. She’d bite my head off if I noticed a critter like that sufferin’ and didn’t lend a hand. ‘Specially when it’s obvious you ain’t tryin’ ta hurt the thing.”
“B-but the garden… Isn’t he a problem?”
Makis rolled his eyes, turning with a dismissive wave of his hand. “If he was, he’da killed it by now. I’d say he’s been keepin’ the others clear ‘n got scratched up for the trouble. That’s more reason to feed ‘em right in my eyes; pay the poor bastard his dues.” He paused after a few steps, shooting her one last incredulous glance. “‘N the rabbit’s right. You’re not much better off than he is. Eat. Before the missus takes my head, preferably. I ain’t need ta hear her worryin’ over you more than I already do.”
And with that, he walked off back to the house, leaving Ceele to sit stunned on the ground with Hoppit quietly nuzzling into her.
“Hoppit…?”
The ferrorabbit perked an ear and gently licked her collar. Fresh tears ran rivulets down her face, yet they didn’t weigh her down. They felt freeing. She adjusted her hold on the rabbit and held him out, taking in the small cuts and numerous other injuries she had never noticed before. He stared back at her with worried eyes.
“You’ve been busy, huh?” she cooed quietly, doing her best to keep her voice from cracking. He shrunk in her hands. “I told you to stay home, baby. What if something happened to you? I wouldn’t know where you went, and…”
Her protests died out as she saw what was unmistakably guilt on his little face. She brought him back to her chest and cleared her throat.
“It’s alright, Hoppit. If… If you want to help momma, then we can work together, okay? Just…please don’t go off getting hurt… I don’t know what I’d do without you…” The rabbit didn’t reply, and she was pretty sure she had never heard him make any sounds that weren’t his happy little ear clacks, but she chose to interpret the nuzzling as an agreement. “Such a smart boy…”
She took a breath and wiped off the excess moisture from her cheeks, setting Hoppit down on the ground. “Let’s bring Mr. Makis’ gift in, and then I need to go get more water so we can clean you up, okay?”
He bounced his way to the door of their home, waiting patiently for her to lug the surprisingly heavy crate into the shed. He was even still behaving himself by the time she returned from picking up the things she dropped in her haste. There wasn’t a single protest from the ferrorabbit as she washed over his wounds with warm water, nor when she asked him to wait as she cut up a small salad for him using an extra portion of her rationed vegetables. Finally, once everything else was gone, she tentatively sifted through the box until she found a chunk of something that didn’t look so sharp, then offered it to Hoppit skeptically.
As startling as it was to see him bite through metal without issue, she couldn’t help but tear up again at how pleased he looked with the bizarre addition to his diet. He munched through the first piece, then stared at the box while pawing at the air, asking for more. She obliged through wet laughs, feeling lighter than she had since he first gazed at her from his burrow, alone and afraid, just like she was.
Her little baby was happy, and that made it okay.

Tequila has become a household drink for most people over the last couple of years. What exactly is it? And where did it come from?
Tequila is a distilled beverage made from agave plants (the same plant that makes tequila). People created the drink in Mexico, but today it's produced worldwide.
There are several types of tequila drinks, each unique taste, and flavor. From Margaritas to Mojitos, these drinks are perfect for any occasion.
This article has explained the different types of tequila drinks available.

Different Types of Tequila

1. Margarita

The word margarita comes from mar (sea) and aguardiente (alcohol). They made this drink in Mexico during the 1920s.
A margarita is a cocktail with tequila, lime juice, and soda water. People usually serve it in ice cold and garnish it with salt.
Don the Beachcomber invented the original margarita in 1934. The drink consists of tequila, lime juice, and salt, and it's served on the rocks or straight up.
The original recipe called for two parts tequila, one part triple sec, and half a cup of simple syrup. Today, you can find many variations on this classic drink.
The most popular variation includes three parts tequila, one-third part triple sec, and a splash of orange juice liqueur or freshly squeezed lemon juice.
We can mix the ingredients in a shaker filled with crushed ice. Then, we can strain it into a glass and top it off with club soda.

2. Paloma

The Paloma tequila cocktail is another popular drink among the different types of tequila drinks. It's like a margarita, except it uses grapefruit juice instead of lime juice.
This drink originated in Cuba back in the 1940s, and it's an authentic Cuban cocktail because it contains rum.
People also call it "palomilla," which means little dove. This cocktail is usually served in a tall glass with ice cubes.
You can add grapefruit juice to the mix and a shot of light rum. Then, we can pour a dash of grenadine into the glass before serving.

3. Mojito

The mojito is a tropical cocktail that originates from Cuba, and it's a combination of mint leaves, sugar, and rum.
In the past, they only served mojitos at bars. Nowadays, you can make them at home, and you need a few simple ingredients like mint leaves, sugar, rum, and club soda.
You crush some mint leaves and add them to a mixing bowl. Add a pinch of sugar and stir until dissolved. Next, pour in your favorite brand of rum.
Mix well and strain out the mint leaves. Put the mixture into a glass and top it off with club soda. Finally, garnish with a sprig of mint.

4. Sangrita

Sangrita is a spicy Mexican cocktail among the different types of tequila drinks. It's made with tomato juice, cilantro, jalapeño peppers, and spices.
To prepare sangrita, you start by chopping tomatoes and adding them to a blender. Next, add cilantro, jalapeno peppers, onion, garlic, and other spices. Blend everything until smooth. Strain the mixture through a cheesecloth.
Next, place all the ingredients into a jar and cover it tightly. Store it in the refrigerator for about 24 hours. Afterward, serve chilled.

5. The Pepino

The Pepino tequila drink is another popular cocktail among the different types of tequila drinks. It combines tequila, pineapple juice, and lime juice, and we can serve it on ice.
The makers of this cocktail created it in Puerto Rico, and however, it has become very popular throughout Latin America.
To create the Pepino, you first combine equal amounts of tequila and pineapple juice. Then, you squeeze in some lime juice. Finally, you fill the glass with crushed ice.

6. The Tequini

The Tequini drink is among the different types of tequila drinks available. It's a combination of tequila and pomegranate juice. It's typically served cold.
Pomegranate juice combined with tequila and served over ice. If you want to spice up the Tequini, you can garnish it with slices of fresh pomegranate seeds.

7. Tequila Sunrise

Tequila Sunrise is one of the most famous cocktails among the different types of tequila drinks. It's a combination of tequila, orange juice, and cranberry juice.
Also, we can serve the drink over ice. The makers invented Tequila Sunrise in Mexico back in the 1980s. It became extremely popular after featuring on a television show.

8. Casa Cosmo

A Casa cosmo combines tequila, triple sec, lemonade, and ginger ale. It's served over ice. It's believed that this cocktail originated in New Orleans. However, it's been available since the early 1900s.
The original recipe calls for equal parts sugar and water. Over the years, the ratio has changed slightly, but the basic premise remains the same. Today, most recipes call for two parts sugar to one part water.

9. El Diablo

An El Diablo combines tequila, grapefruit juice, grenadine, and coconut milk, and we can serve it over ice. We can add grenadine to the mix, followed by coconut milk and grapefruit juice.
Finally, we can pour tequila over the entire concoction. This cocktail started in Cuba. However, it became incredibly popular when featured on the television show Sex and the City.

10. Bloody Maria

The Bloody Mary is a classic and fantastic cocktail, and people usually serve it with vodka or rum. However, there are many variations of the Bloody Mary out there.
One of the more interesting ones is the Bloody Maria, and this version includes tequila instead of vodka.
To make the Bloody Maria, you combine tomato juice, celery salt, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, olive oil, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. You also add tequila to the mixture.
You then pour everything into an old-fashioned glass filled with crushed ice. Further, garnish the drink with a slice of pickled jalapeño pepper.

11. Tegroni

The Tegroni combines tequila and gin, and we can traditionally serve it over ice. Tegola consists of agave nectar. Then, we can add gin to the mixture. The result is a sweet and sour beverage.
The drink started in Italy. However, it became extremely popular when featured in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's.

12. Gypsy Girl

The Gypsy girl is a combination between tequila, peach brandy, and champagne, and we can serve it over ice.
People usually use Peach brandy to create the base of the Gypsy girl. Then, we can add tequila to the mixture. Finally, we can pour champagne over the entire thing.
Harry Craddock created the Gypsy girl, who worked at the Savoy Hotel in London. He named the cocktail after his wife, Gypsy Rose Lee.

Conclusion

There are different kinds of drinks out there. Some people enjoy drinking margaritas, while others prefer to sip on their favorite alcoholic beverages.
There are even some people who love mixing all sorts of different flavors. However, if you want to get the best experience possible, I recommend trying each tequila drink to appreciate what each flavor tastes like.

2024.06.09 09:13 DragonStryk72 Valoria Saga (Chapter 2)

Prev Royal Road Patreon
Karghol stepped forward. As Rob he might be scared, but he'd been the leader of the group for a long time, operating as our main tank across a ton of games, and now, I could see him taking that step again, "Okay, first thing's first. If they're gonna pop us out of this from the outside, then that's not on us, but we've all seen this anime. If they're not coming, then we need to get to the endgame as fast as possible."
"Nope," I shook my head, surprising even myself at how quickly I'd said something.
He turned, "What? I mean, we gotta get out ahead of this."
"In most games, I'd agree, but not here, not in this game. Also, side-point but decision time for everyone: Real names or character names? I can't keep flipping between them. Lugh is what's on my party registry, so I'm sticking with Lugh," It seemed small but wasn't.
I'd learned well enough that giving people all of the information was most often counter-productive at best. Giving people a small, immediate choice was far preferable and got them on the path to understanding better. Temur snorted slightly at the absurdity, "Well, I suppose you can call me either Temur, or Temur. Whichever floats your boat."
Several groans came out, and finally, some laughter. I mean, it was dad joke humor to be sure, but jokes were probably going to become a much more specific thing for us. From there, everyone chose their character names, either because it was simply easier given the nametags in our party rotation, or because they just didn't want everyone knowing their real ones. Khargol however, was a slight agitated, "Alright, so why not speedrun it?"
"Because speedrunners die and reset constantly."
The slight mirth died out in the room, but Khargol wasn't ready to yield the point, "I've watched you do a no-death run of Dark Souls!"
I nodded, "And do you have any idea how many times I died in that game getting to that level of skill? Look, this isn't Dark Souls. That game has set difficulty levels. Yeah, it's got solid AI, but here? The AI adapts to tactics, and I'm pretty sure the beta test players are about to learn that the hard way."
Everyone was a bit curious at the statement, but it was Shelara who spoke up, "What does that 'adaptive AI' mean?"
I sighed, and took a seat at the head of the table, with Khargol finally sitting down next to me, "It means the AI of the system is learning. Beta testers essentially get to play ahead of the general public to try and stress test the system under actual play conditions. Most usually, they'll try to learn as many exploits as possible, so even if they start out on brand new characters, they're still going to be far ahead of the pack, getting gear and coin ahead of others. Assume that the beta testers have watched things like SAO or other 'trapped in a video game' style series, and they're doing the same as Khargol is suggesting. Problem is, that's exactly what a bunch of them already did, and if the AI works like it's supposed to, then it's ready for them.
"For Valorian Saga, one of the biggest selling points was its adaptive AI system, a system that learns. What that means is that the system behind bosses has already learned those exploits from beta testers and has some sort of answer for them, and they're going to run dead into them."
Chrysta sat forward, leaning her elbows on the table, at least in part to show off her biceps, "Well if a speedrun is out of the question, then what do we do instead?"
Shelara cut back in, "But... shouldn't we try and go save the beta testers?"
I considered, "Shelara, in answer to your question, we can't. Even assuming we could catch up to wherever they're at, there's almost no chance they'd listen to us if we did. They're just as likely to assume we're rivals, or to think we're idiots, but regardless they won't be following our instructions just because we say so. As far as they're concerned, they already know this game, and we're a bunch of sprouts who are panicking. Even if we could get past that point, we don't know the game like they do, and we're more likely to end up needing saving before we ever get to them.
"As to the other question, Chrysta, what we do now is finish up the starter quests, then we use our flyers to join the militia."
Every MMO veteran groaned openly. Arkadi especially was annoyed at the concept, "Come on, man, faction-grinding on day two? We're not even out of the gate yet!"
I'd expected this, and checked my in-game clock, and swore under my breath. We needed to get moving, with only roughly eighteen minutes of daylight left, "Guys, that's why we need to join the militia. It's safe, and grinding up our faction rep with Valoria opens a lot of doors, not least of which is giving us barracks space to live in free of charge, basic equipment upgrades, and getting coin. That's just the short-term gains. Yeah, not much, but it gives us a foundation. We get the lay of the land, and we build up our strategies. There's another reason though, and it's important."
Khargol nodded, "As militia, we get arrest powers in line with the laws of Farrelston."
"Wait, we'd be cops?" Shelera seemed slightly hyped about the concept.
I nodded, "More or less. We aren't out in the main room right now cause everyone's losing their minds out there. They're all coming to terms with the idea that this place is where they might die, and that breeds desperate reactions. Fourteen million players split between fifty servers, giving an average server population of... two-hundred-eighty thousand per server give or take for server popularity. Assume maybe one percent of that go fully around the bend and get violent, and that gives us two thousand eight hundred violent criminals that just hit the city on this server that have the ability to level up within the system.
"Farrelston has to be a safe space for players to return to, but that can't happen if there isn't order, and that means law enforcement."
One of our newcomers made her presence felt, the elf woman from the cathedral, shaking as she spoke, "I'm Layala. What about my brother?"
Tom... "I don't know. I don't what happens to those who die in the game. Maybe they wake up, maybe they're just comatose in a hospital somewhere, or maybe they're gone."
I let it sink in for everyone. Layala's eyes fell to the table as she slowly wept. I hate this, but sugarcoating the thing wasn't good for anyone, "All I can work on right now is keeping us all alive. This is a fantasy RPG, so for all I know, there might be another way to get them back, but I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. Anyone who knows someone who didn't respawn, we'll keep a journal of names, to see that they're remembered. We chronicle the dead, and if the opportunity to get them back presents itself, we go all-in on it.
"I know we all have questions... but we can't stay here to answer them all, and I don't have all the answers for you. We need to start moving, and moving now. We've got thirteen people here, our five and the eight we added on. We've got enough people to form a guild when the time comes, so we should start acting like a guild now."
Layala's voice cracked, "I-I nominate Lugh."
I was startled. I've been very game-knowledgeable, but I wasn't the leader type. It was never my role in the group.
"I second the nomination."
Khargol. My head whipped around, "Look, guys, I'm not a leader. I know stuff, that's what I've got. Khargol's the one who leads."
Khargol shook his head, "Not here, not in this game. I'm all good for the tanking, but you're the only one of us who's putting out a plan of attack, and I'm getting more lost by the minute. It sucks dude, and it hurts to admit it to myself, but you're the guy this time."
Nods occurred, and by show of hands, I was almost unanimously elected to command the 'guild', minus my own dissenting vote. Well.... crapbaskets, "Alright, fine. I won't argue it, but we've gotta get a move on. Get the starter quests going, and when we unlock the job change system, we'll work things out from there. Until then, we'll break into three parties, two four-man parties, and one five-man. Khargol, you're in charge of the five-man, Temur and myself are the other party leaders for now. We'll meet at the barracks come sundown. We spread out the neos amongst the three parties so they're all protected, and we get started. Don't do any combat quests alone."
I picked up Shelera for my party's neo, along with Chrysta and Layala, and the parties agreed to meet up in front of the barracks around sunset so we could join up together. We fought the press of bodies in the tavern to get out into the streets, and headed off for our quests. I could feel my heart racing a bit, the whole thing feeling like some sort of bad dream, but we would need a minute to get things together, "Okay, let's check everyone's quest logs. Any shareable quests, share them with the group so we can all help out and get rewards. We tackle them from lowest to highest."
We moved through the streets to the first quest, running messages around the city for the heralds. The quest was designed to get new players oriented with the larger city of Farrelston and what factions existed within it. The vast majority of players though, were barely moving, either pressed into the tavern or milling about in front of the cathedral. This was a huge problem, and we were finding clusters of people around, hiding and trying to just deal with the enormity of it all. We were running messages to guards, merchants, and nobles on what was a very low-key questline while watching people crying or raging. Shelera moved up next to me, close to tears herself, "We can't do anything?"
a I halted, and looked around again, and noticed some people who weren't in groups. Solo players who had come in by themselves, the same as you'd see in any MMO, and now they were cut off from the world, friends, family, and no party. Solo players really only existed in MMOs, people who would just fill in the gaps, and otherwise keep to themselves, and it worked in the world of video games. In the real world, though, it wasn't good, "We can do a little."
I jogged over to where a powerfully built Dracon with a sword and shield was balled up on the ground, weeping, purple-scaled head buried in his arms. I knelt down next to him, laying a hand on his shoulder, "Hey, what's your character name?"
The Dracon boy looked up imploringly, his voice quavering, "Umbaar..."
"Hi, Umbaar. I'm Lugh, and these are my friends. Why don't you come with us? You can join our party," I kept my tone even by pleasant.
He nodded sheepishly and accepted the party invite, "My mom's gonna kill me. I wasn't even supposed to be playing the game."
Oh God, no, "How old are you, Umbaar?"
"I'll be fourteen in December."
Due to the nature of the game, the minimum age for Valorian Saga was eighteen. He'd likely gotten access to the rig, and just jumped on, and now he was trapped, "I'm sure right now, your mom's just worried about you, but we'll keep you safe. Come on, we've got quests to do."
The absurdity of our questing was fully growing with each step we took. After running messages, we helped the watch with investigating some local crimes to learn the search system, worked with merchants on trading to get the economy down, and along the way, we found some more solos to fill us out to the party cap of eight. The jobs were immaterial to me, but Shelera and Layala both found comfort in picking up more people, with the latter taking over care of Umbaar. NPCs went about their day's work, and I started to catch on to something, "Hey... is this day... running long to anyone else?"
Games don't use full twenty-four-hour days, using a shorter day and night cycle to give the impression of a world without having to artificially inflate the game to make it feel like a full day. Valorian Saga had, in the videos, been shown to have a twenty-minute day, and twenty-minute night, but as we ran around, it had been far more than twenty minutes now. The sun had barely moved in the sky, which given the rest of the game's level of detail wasn't something they would've ignored. Chrysta spoke up after counting her clock, "Uh... well dearheart, I do believe we've got us a twenty-four cycle now."
There were several possibilities to this, perhaps either our minds changed gear to work with in-game time, or the game had altered to have twenty-four-hour time. Either way, we had no answers for it. I was getting a bit sick of having more and more questions I couldn't answer, but I couldn't focus on it in the here and now. I called a halt, and we found a small corner tavern to get food and drink. I took some time with the menu system, and up popped the character status window.
By statistics, we were moving up a bit, but the main stats of our jobs weren't changing very much at all. My basic stats for movement had risen, but not by much, and the gain was tapering off. That was probably from all the walking around the city we were doing. Reputations were going up in the city guilds attached to our quests, but again, they were minor improvements, and the effective XP was tapering off from doing them. I took out my character journal, a system conceit by the devs that the game world was simply too grand in scale to not allow a lot of notetaking, and did stat-math just like when I would spreadsheet my builds at home. From what I could see, the game had no true 'leveling' system. Instead, skills and attributes were built up by how you played, sort of like in Skyrim, but the same actions would not keep getting you the same degree of XP. A common enough point, or else someone could pull a South Park and just merc wolves until they hit the cap. Abilities would unlock as your stats rose, some coming online automatically like Sprint, while others you had to find a trainer for, such as the Double Knock ability for archers. From what I'd seen online, the abilities would unlock advanced jobs, and certain combinations would unlock hybrid jobs, so a Paladin would be a combination of a knight and acolyte. None of the testers had gotten that far, however, they'd just seen the possibility of it.
I noticed Shelera leaning over to look at my journal, and I smiled, "Just doing nerd stuff, plotting my progression to figure out what jobs I need."
She smiled back, "That seems weirdly normal. What are you thinking of doing?"
"Well, for now, I need to move up my abilities as a Hunter, right? Hunter eventually leads to a few choices, so I'm thinking I'll probably go for a Ranger build. That means I can train up Yndress here as a battle companion."
Yndress had been flying about with me, and sometimes resting on my shoulder, and now, she was curled up by my arm on the table as I continued. Shelera reached over and petted Yndress, "That is so cool. She's so warm. I totally should've figured out a way to get the limited edition... so what should I be leveling up?"
"Well, you're a vagabond, so you might look at something like Bounty Hunter since we're working with the militia. Combine that with another job.... huh."
"What?"
Daeva grinned, "Oh, sweetie, he just worked somethin' out. What do you need, Lugh?"
"Give me a minute. I need to go to the scrivener," I shot up and stepped out of the tavern.
It wasn't far to the scrivener where I could buy the supplies I needed. We'd just done an ink delivery there, and now, I would need paper and ink to work with. Returning, I cleared off the tavern table and laid out a large scroll used for maps, currently unmarked, "Okay, I need everyone to bring up your character pages and stand where I can read them."
Gamers generally do have a sense of when someone's worked out an exploit, and this was one of those times. They brought up their screens so I could start marking down abilities, attributes, and skills. Of note, my Scibing ability was ticking slowly upward as I laid things out. Scribing could turn into runic writing and other more arcane and mundane pursuits. What I was working on became a skill tree system, with the various jobs being grouped together. I had to move things around, and in real life I wouldn't be able to do that with ink, but in the game sense, it was pretty simple. I kept moving around my drawing, finally starting to come into a workable initial system of abilities, jobs, and other things that built off of one another. It look a bit mad, like if no one had stopped the devs on Path of Exile's skill tree, but it was there, "We're thinking about this wrong. We need to get to the barracks. I don't want to explain this twice."
Banded back up, I stopped by our newest unlock: Carriage Stations. The city was entirely too big to be running around it all the time, and for just half a silver, we could go to any other ward in the city. I signaled the coachman, handing him my flyer, "Take us to the militia barracks."
The coachman nodded sharply, "Right you are, sir."
The coaches held four, so we split between the two, and I rechecked my numbers. I was pretty certain I was right by the math, but these things didn't always pan out like you wanted, so it was best to recheck. It still seemed to be working out like I thought, but I needed Temur for a blind study of it. We got out at the barracks, a building made up of fortified walls and barred windows with internal shutters. Militiamen NPCs were standing guard out front, while we could just see some working in the training yard to the side. From what I could see, however, we were the only players here.
Temur's party arrived first, and apparently, I wasn't the only one picking up strays as two carriages emptied of people. He was running a full party as well now, and grinning in his uniquely Temur way, even if he did have draconic features now, "So, I see we're all taking in the lost little lambs?"
"I mean, sure, why not? That's how we met, so why not do it here, too?"
He nodded, "Questing went well, if a bit hum-drum, but you have a look in your eyes that says you've worked something out. You got math time!"
I nodded, "Waiting for... yeah, Khargol went off-road, I see."
Temur and I had shown up with two carriages each, only for Khargol to pull up with four, all packed. That put our new numbers at thirty-two players as he practically bounced up to us, "What?!"
We both shook our heads, "Nothing, man. Never change. I've got some news for everyone."
The full mass moved over to the side of the building so we weren't obstructing the entrance, "Party people, I worked something out at lunch."
I rolled out my map of the skills tree, "Okay, so I was going over my character screen, and did some math. I know what we need to do: We need to move up on every job."
Khargol shook his head, "Isn't that gonna leave us as jacks of all trades? We'd be running pretty average."
I gestured with my hands a bit in dismissal, "Usually, you're right, but here, it's different. The stats aren't really separated here, they're intended for cross-classing, and it's not just the combat jobs. I moved up a bit at Scribing here, and it looks like it'll be the same for crafting and gathering jobs. Move up in X, Y, and/or Z jobs and you unlock a hybrid. So like, say you move up as a blacksmith, armorer, and weaponsmith. All three have abilities building into one another, and that can unlock further abilities, other jobs, a whole classification of things we can't see yet.
"Using abilities works up the stats associated with that ability, and the higher the ability, the more XP it generates for the stats. Those stats still stay there when you do a job change, so you could be a Gladiator working up strength by working the forge."
Shelera looked over the drawing, "Okay, so you think if we take every job up, then that'll make us a lot stronger? But won't we end up with a bunch of usless stats?"
I shook my head, "No, for two primary reasons. For one, what if instead of Paladin, you went something like a Hexblade in D&D terms? Or, Shelera, you take Bounty Hunter, then build up your hunter job to Scout, and you have something akin to a Justicar class? Or Khargol, what if you master every weapon group?"
Temur's interest was peaked at mention of Hexblade, "And what is the second reason?"
I sucked in a breath, "It's a job change system. There's a job change skill, and every basic skill I've seen has upgrades, even if I can't see the end of the trees yet. The adaptive AI is going to adapt to our individual tactics, but even if all of us were playing hunters, we'd all approach hunting differently, maybe more reliant on archery, or snares, or pets. It would force the AI to keep readapting its own tactics on the fly. If we build up, we might just be able to get to something better than the sum of our parts."
Karghol nodded, "And that makes it doubly important we get going on the militia stuff. Shall we?"
The lot of us went over to the barracks, where a guard greeted us at the door, "Hold, citizens. What is your business with the thirteenth Valorian militia?"
I stepped forward, "We're here to enlist for service."
The guard perked right up, "Ah, good. Greetings and well met! I am Sergeant-at-Arms Brant. We are in need of stalwart folk to help protect Farrelston and wider Valoria in these trying times. Dark things are afoot both at home and afar, and it speaks well of you that you would choose service. Please, enter the hall, and register yourselves with Yeoman Granger. Welcome once again, may the purple dragon fly eternal!"

2024.06.09 08:13 James_Readme Things you need to know about the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church Of Christ)

Things you need to know about the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church Of Christ)
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO (CHURCH OF CHRIST)
  1. INC is neither a protestant sect/denomination nor a member of any interreligious organization. It is an independent Christian religion, the largest in Asia.
  2. INC is not a cult. Critics consider us as such because we dont adhere to what they believe as "essential doctrines of mainstream Christianity" like the Trinity and some just want to discredit the Church.
  3. INC holds worship services twice a week and we believe that attending this holy gathering is our obligation to God. Men and women have separate seats. Everyone is welcome to join us.
  4. INC doesnt believe in Trinity. We believe in only one God--the Father.
  5. INC believes in our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that He is human in nature, the Son of God, God's messenger, made Lord and Christ by God, the only mediator to God, and the foundation where the Church was built. He is the founder, head and savior of the Church. We also worship him as instructed by God.
  6. INC believes that the Holy Spirit is not a God but a power being sent by God and Jesus.
  7. INC doesnt practice tithing. Members give voluntary offerings and donations. It is not true that this Church is only for the rich or middle class. It is also not true that our offerings only go to ministers and INC leaders. Besides buying properties, the church is able to continue building and renovating houses of worship worldwide because of the wise management of the Church Administration--all for the glory of God.
  8. INC believes that the BIBLE is the word of God, the sole basis and service to God. It is not true that we are forbidden to read the Bible, but what members shouldnt do is private interpretation. We dont have our own Bible version.
  9. INC believes that membership in the Church is necessary for salvation. We dont believe that salvation can be attained only by faith alone. It is not true that there is a membership fee when joining the Church, a Bible student only needs to finish the indoctrination process and undergo a probation period before getting baptized and officially becoming a member.
  10. INC believes that baptism by means of immersion is necessary for salvation. The Church doesnt baptize babies.
  11. INC believes that Jesus established only one Church. We dont believe that all churches belongs to God.
  12. INC believes that Jesus built a Church in the 1st century. It was named after him and it is the Church that he will save however, it had fallen to apostasy like what happened to the ancient Israel--God's chosen nation. The apostatized church is now known as the Roman Catholic Church.
  13. INC believes that Bro. Felix Manalo is God's messenger in these last days. He was the instrument on re-establishing the true Church thru biblical prophecies. We never recognized him to be the founder of the Church and to be greater than Christ. We dont worship him.
  14. INC believes that being a member of the Church is not enough to be saved. One should lead a new life, and obey all the teachings of God until the end.
  15. INC believes in the Day of Judgment which will take place in the second coming of Christ. We also believe in resurrection and the second death which is the Lake of fire.
  16. INC believes that it is the will of God for us members to love one another as true brothers and sisters. We treat each other equally.
  17. INC believes that unity is God's teaching that should be practiced and there should be no division within the Church. We also practice voting in unity in relation to submitting to the Church Administration. It is not true that the church asks for money or anything in exchange of support for political candidates and there is no bidding.
  18. INC believes in the separation of Church and State. The Church doesnt meddle in politics. Members are advised to respect and observe the rules of the government, as long as it is not against God's will.
  19. INC members practice discipline and orderliness. It is not true that members are murderers or violent people. Church members/officers/ministers/officials who are found to have violated Church doctrines and teachings are expelled.
  20. INC believes that God is against eating/drinking blood as food, live-in relationships, inter-faith marriage, homosexual unions, same-sex marriage, divorce, annulment, legal separation, extra-marital affairs, drinking alcoholic drinks, and taking of drugs.
  21. INC doesnt believe in Catholic Saints and we do not keep images/statues of them in our homes and chapels. We also do not believe in the Catholic teachings about Mary and the cross.
  22. INC does not believe in purgatory and we do not pray for the dead. We also believe that the dead should not be cremated.
  23. INC members are advised not to believe in ghosts, Feng shuis, magics, fortune tellers, spiritists and superstitions.
  24. INC does not celebrate Christmas, Halloween, All Saints day, All Souls day, Valentines day, Lenten Season and Fiestas that are associated on honoring Saints/Patrons.
  25. INC believes that ministers are the ones who have the authority to preach the gospel through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We members do not preach but only help in the missionary works as it is our duty to do so.
  26. INC members are taught how to pray and encouraged to pray everyday. We do not use the rosary and we do not pray in repetition (recited prayers). We do not perform the sign of the cross.
  27. INC members are taught to submit to the Church administration and church officers.
  28. INC supports the use of family planning and artificial contraceptives. The Church rejects rhythm/calendar method. It is against abortion, and assisted reproductive methods such as surrogacy.
  29. Church steeples/spires are not missiles and we dont believe that our chapels will fly up to heaven when judgement day comes.
  30. Church positions are not inherited most especially the Executive Minister and Deputy Executive Minister positions. Both are voted by the Church Ecumenical Council.
TRUE INC MEMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO:
▪️Not join labor unions, fraternities, and sororities.
▪️ Avoid attending/participating in Christmas Parties, Junior Senior Prom, fiesta activities, worship services in other religions and other assemblies that are not in accordance to Church's teachings.
▪️Not imitate wrong doings and use of profanity.
▪️Lead a new life and follow Church teachings.
▪️Actively participate in Church activities.
▪️Do things properly and orderly when attending worship services.
If you have questions to any of these, you can visit the locale nearest you. Our ministers or evangelical workers will be glad to explain and assist you.

2024.06.09 07:25 Acrobatic-Channel346 Creating Philosophy From Phenomena You Experience

So after countless hours of meditation day in and day out from as soon as I wake up to before I go to bed. As well as taking walking meditations around my block 9 seconds through the nose and 9 seconds out the nose for the breathing pattern. Now I have done this almost every day consistently for awhile now and I have started to see purple orbs in my peripheral vision whenever I make the right conscious choice to benefit my future. I also feel ringing in my ears whenever I have the urge to make the right choice and also feel the ringing whenever I make a bad choice that is root chakra or doesn’t benefit me.
Now we all have vices wether it’s food or lust or weed or alcohol but I shit you not when I started incorporating meditation in my life to a mass extent, also not just breathing i also would just use my imagination for example when I took walks I visualized the prana coming off every tree and being consumed by my aura and breath. Belief and imagination/ visualization to break free from indoctrination is key to see phenomena and feel phenomena outside the 5 physical senses.
Now I’ll give an example of the ringing in my ears. This one time I was tempted to really just binge eat ice cream especially when it’s late night and I have things to do the next day. I’ll have ringing in my ears. Also if I decide to sit around and lust at women I’ll feel a ringing in my ears. Its almost like a warning from my soul family to not do that. I’ll also feel ringing when I decide to research new philosophy’s and new etymology’s and new spiritual practices as well as study the Bible. It’s like anything that anything to do with knowledge and info regarding nature your soul your mind philosophy in general.
I also had a scenario where I would see a purple orb on my Bible I was reading at the time. For example I said to my self “you know tonight I’ll read the Bible” then I seen the purple orb on top of my Bible . It’s almost like my thought I suggested was gave Clarity and reassurance that it’s a good idea to do that.
Am I tripping or wouldn’t that be a way to communicate with source via feeling and emotion. It’s almost like anything that’s unselfish and will try to persuade people away from the materialistic era we live in and be simplistic philosophers life wouldn’t be all fucked up.
But most won’t Beable to control there legion that they have within themselves. The 7 deadly spirits lust greed envy gluttony wrath sloth pride. These are very hard for humans to destroy. Especially beezelbub no wonder why he was called the prince of demons. Fasting for 40 days with no water or food to destroy beezelbub is not a hard task

2024.06.09 07:08 Nietzsche_x Is corpotate a good fit for me? 19F extremely lost and looking for some guidance

This is going to be a long post, i apologize in advance. Will try to put a concise TLDR at the end.
Currently i am pursuing my bachelors in economics, first year and i want to start working towards creating my career. However, I don't really have anybody to guide me irl at all, no big sister or elder brother, no successful senior or decent alumni network. My college doesn't really provide me with much opportunities and peers are also really ambitionless. Im pretty much on my own.
I have A LOT of time in my hands in this uni and can dedicate a huge chunck of my day towards developing my skills/studying for exams/whatever is required of me. I also consider myself a fairly disciplined and dedicated individual if the situation requires, not the most hardworking but im working on changing that pattern.
However, The thing with corporate is everybody in my family is against it. My father is an engineer in a PSU and is very very anti-private jobs. From his experience 30 years ago in civil engineering, he truly believes that private jobs suck the soul out of you and demean you as a person. So he really wishes for me to try for govt exams and govt jobs.
The other thing is, in my family both of my maternal unlces worked in corporate. They weren't from any reputated colleges whatsoever at all, graduated from worse than tier 3 mba colleges but when i say that they are highly charismatic and extremely wellspoken, SUCH hardworking people, i mean it. They got the skills. They really climbed that corporate ladder hard. Both were in sales.
  1. My chhote mama in the end was working in samsung at very high post, was the regional manager of a very large domain of north india, had a package of upwards of 50+ LPA but the workload was so much, that he suffered from an heart attack at the age of 35. Thankfully, he survived and is alright now but that really opened his eyes and he quit his job the next day. Now he is working on his own business and has done fairly well with whatever circumstances he was given.
  2. My other mama, who is even more talented and intelligent than the above mentioned mama, right now works as a vise president of the entire sales department of a very reputated company and has a package of upwards of 1.5cr but just yesterday, he also suffered from a mini heart attack. Please keep in mind these are really fit, 6 feet plus guys, no smoking no drinking no tobacco pure veg people (not saying non veg food is bad or ANYTHING pls dont get offended and make this the topic of conversation).
And thats the thing. Even though both my mama earn really good money, we have never seen them not stressed out. I remember when i was young and visited them during summer vacation, raat ko 11-11 baje unko unke boss ka call aata tha and they would shout and hurl abuses at them. The pressure was simply astronomical. No respect, no wlb. Both have really strained relationship with their wives because of this too. Their life basically happens on tours, they were never home. Which has kind of also scared me off sales for sure, if not corporate.
The second thing is, seeing how extroverted and charismatic they are, i kinda doubt my skills. I am definitely more on the introverted side, have a limited social energy, not the most charismatic person either. Im more of a reading my book quietly in the bedroom person than being the life of the party in the drawing room kind of person. I am also extremely prone to anxiety (clinically diagnosed) and overthinking. Matlab, what im saying is that, im not the most "jo hoga dekha jayega" "take it easy" kind of a person. If there is something to be stressed about, you better believe im stressing out about it on the full intensity. I think this is also the time i should mention that i suffer from an autoimmune disease and it flares up during high stress situations.
So my question is, is corpoarte a good fit for me? are all domains (finance, consulting, operations)(finance particuarly because i wish it to aim it if im to enter corporate) as stressful as sales? Is it possible to achieve a good wlb with a good pay (1.5-2L) if you're not from tech background? Listen, all i want from life is a job that doesn't suck the soul out of me w a decent pay, hopefully i get to live in tier 1 city and quality people to hang out with/a few good friends. Thats all. So, should i go for corporate?
Because my other option is preparing for upsc, state pcs etc and i'll be honest, the tedium of the govt sector is not the most appealing to me. Na hi mujhe bahot zyada paise ki bhook hai na hi power ki. Nor do i have an extraordinary aim to "change the country" or anything i'll be very honest. If i'll be preparing for upsc it'll just be another job. Everybody arounds me believes that i have the potential to crack these exams but i think everybody who scores good in school exams and maybe reads a few books thinks that so thats irrelevant. I do think that i must mention that i was going through the syllabus of upsc, i pretty much knew about more than 30% of it because history/geography/philosophy/ethics are truly my area of interest and i study them regardless, just out of sheer interest. So Upsc is really one exam that a person like me is cut out for, hoga nahi hoga vo alag baat hai but i think i would be a fair competition.
So please guide me, what should i do? which path should i start putting my hardwork towards? Is corporate actually really horrible? Can a person with anxiety issues survive?

From his experience 30 years ago in civil engineering, he truly believes that private jobs suck the soul out of you and demean you as a person. So he really wishes for me to try for govt exams and govt jobs.
The other thing is, in my family both my of maternal unlces worked in corporate.
I remember when i was young and visit them during summer vacation, raat ko 11-11 baje unko unke boss ka call aata tha and they would shout and hurl abuses at them.

[lorepost] Cut through time (aka Esra and Fausarte’s date)
https://preview.redd.it/6f6qdwjz1h5d1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=6701e4100f72204035d3774c2a644c628e4261f8
/uw this follows up on stuff set up in this prior post, and we bring a pre-existing character from another story into play. Romulo, whose gift allows him to turn back time. He’s from DropShotEpee’s story The Elusive Human, so Often Forgotten, which can be read on HFY or here on RoyalRoad. He died in that so this is going to be standard isekai magic. /rw
While the council held their gala in space, Esra finally got the chance to take Fausarte on a date. Everything was ready, food ordered and prepared at some of the shops in Noxtella, which she had picked on the advice of Zhyros. Aliah displaced the demense close to the location before she left in the SV-Baleygr, and Esra readied a longboat for Fausarte.
The blade demoness loved the stars, a beautiful sky without any magical light pollution. Soon they had made their way to a dock amidst the canals, and Esra helped Fausarte step up onto the dock before leaning and gently kissing the hand that she had pulled up for leverage. Fausarte smiled and blushed at the gesture, and that’s precisely when everything went to hell.
With a pop and the faint scent of planar magic, a man appeared from thin air and crashed into the table of foods that Esra had prepped. The interloper was tall, broad faced, dressed in riven armor with a red cape. His hair was dyed a bright yellow and he carried a federschwert. He looked around, before his gaze settled upon Esra and Fausarte.
“What have you done,” the man, who gave her the sensation of looking at a wolf, growled. “I had my last dance, died with grace. WHERE AM–” then the man flailed as if struck from the left, and his frame abruptly resolved into calm. “Okay then, time to die.”
Esra blinked, before focusing on the interloper and activating her mana sense. “Fausarte, he’s got two hearts. One of them’s a mana construct, some type of spellform reeking of temporal mana and reaching up to his brain.”
The demoness nodded. “I smell it,” she growled. “It smells like the scabbard.”
Then she was away like an arrow from the bowstring. Blades clashed, and the energy within the heart grew. Esra was quick to put it together, that the heart’s ability was fuelled by movement, and started to summon vines from the boards.
The longswordsman flickered once more. “Nice try priestess, but you will not ensnare me! I learned that lesson from the last elf to try using vines, and you’ll die like the rest of her deathless kin.”
Esra inhaled sharply. “I see it now,” she declared. “Your sword, your extra heart, you cut through time!”
“An astute observation,” he retorted as his next slash sent Fausarte sliding back with a cut across her chest. “I am Romulo, the Wolf who cuts through time. And I shall be your doom.”
Fausarte laughed. “I am Fausarte Warbranded, she is Esra Holden. And you interrupted our gods-damned date.” Then she charged at him.
Her first strike nearly made it through, before the man, Romulo, flickered once more before seizing hold of her sword and running his own through her chest. Even though she knew that her girlfriend could survive such a wound, Esra’s heart still went cold at the sight. Swiftly recovering, the woman reached out with a hand, drawing up that cold feeling and firing off a frostbolt at Romulo’s shoulder.
The man saw it coming, and roared a counter into the night. “BEAT, MY TEMPO HEARTBEAT!
Nothing happened. Well, the frostbolt struck him, but other than that the moment was still. Then Romulo looked at Fausarte, at the rust of her body, and swore violently as the blade demon exploded into light.
When it died down, Fausarte was changed. Rust was now shining steel, and her face was hardened into a cold and expressionless mask. She glanced at Esra. “Soul Resonance Detected,” Fausarte intoned in a dull voice, before turning to face Romulo. He got a longer response. “Temporal residue present. Hostile intent to handler and unit detected. Conclusion reached. Die.
She lunged towards Romulo, but Esra was quick to pull her back with a telekinetic spellwork. “I don’t know what’s going on or what happened to you,” she said quickly, “But that man can turn back time. His power is fuelled by strikes to your avatar or blade. So you need to work around it.”
Fausarte blinked flatly. “Acknowledged, Handler.
She lunged forward once more, but Romulo wasn’t focusing on her as he instead picked at a fragment of ice that had embedded itself in his shoulder. “This magic… I have felt its sting before. The winter heartbeat.” And then another heart formed in his chest.
Fausarte saw it too, and quickly struck out towards his foot. Romulo jumped backwards, and then they were back to their fight which felt almost like a dance. Then, as Romulo skipped backwards, he threw the shard of ice at Fausarte, nicking her side. Evidently, it counted as a strike, as he roared out “BEAT, MY WINTER HEARTBEAT!
Fausarte froze in place for a single second, but it was long enough for Romulo to send her flying with a haymaker. “New world, new life, new blood,” the wolf spat at Esra as she ran to Fausarte’s side. “I shall carve my name into this land, starting with you. Your lover’s change will wear off but neither of you will live to see it.”
Then a bolt of lightning came down from the cloudless sky and struck a nearby building. Romulo startled with fear and confusion, Esra felt a surge of hope and anticipation, and Fausarte… her unrusted form stared at it with that same flat look, before she tilted her head and muttered “Soul resonance detected, second handler present. Error.
““What,”” Romulo and Esra both said simultaneously. Fausarte didn’t get the chance to elaborate before a spear took the wolf in the hand and Aliah came down like an avenging angel.
“You died to come here,” the gestalt mage growled as she caught him by the collar and dragged him along the pier. “You were given new life by cosmic coincidence of my demense’s planar shift, and then you used this second chance to attack my people. Clearly it was wasted. Invoke Divine Tribulation. Stare into eternity and burn. Unlike the stringed maiden you aren’t powerful enough to survive with a mere headache. You die again.”
And then she threw the near-catatonic man into the water before turning and hurrying to Esra’s side. “Are you okay dears?”
Esra blinked at the sudden and dramatic shift. “We’re… we’re alive,” she said. “You left the council gala.”
Aliah shrugged. “Politics isn’t my thing, I’m a woman of action and you needed help. You’ll always be more valuable than the mission Esra. You’re… you’re the closest thing I’ll ever have to a daughter, if- if you’d have me.”
Esra smiled wetly. “I’d love that mom,” she whispered. “Can you tell me what happened to Fausarte?”
Fausarte blinked, the first display of emotion. “Concluding that you are referring to this unit. Fausarte… That is a pleasant name, I shall endeavor to remember it.
Aliah sighed. “The man’s power, it was a localized temporal rewind. Scaled with strikes, in her rusted form Fausarte’s avatar would be a jagged mess with numerous air pockets so he would have scored thousands of hits at once. I don’t know how far he rewound her, or how long it’ll last for. Fausarte, report.”
Instantly, the blade demoness straightened to a ramrod posture. “Acknowledged, secondary handler. Valience Order unit three-jay-seven, rank captain, title Glittering Blade reporting. Specialty: temporal consolidation, time: unknown, status: ready and awaiting orders.
Esra and Aliah looked at each other. ““Well shit.””
/uw So, yeah, we're going to get to learn some about past fausarte for... maybe the rest of this month. Also this explains away why Aliah didn't give a speech. She detected that her babies were in trouble and flew to their aid.

This is a throwaway because too much identifying info is on my main.
I F29 met my boyfriend "Michael" M35 at a show I performed in (I am a theatre person as a hobby) and he complimented my performance and bought me a drink. We have been together now for a little over a year.
His sister got married last week and I was initially pleased to asked to be a bridesmaid but also a bit surprised as she barely knows me but I thought this was an attempt to have an excuse to also get to know each other better.
Michael and I got into an argument the week before because he said that he wanted to entertain the thought of spicing up our sex life and having a threesome. He said since I was bi, why not? I didn't like the idea too much and said so and it devolved into a petty cold war and he started to ignore my messages after he left my place. He didn't reply to me at all until the day before the wedding asking what time he needed to pick me up since we can't go swperate otherwise "people will gossip" about us. He barely said anything to me the whole time we traveled to the venue. The wedding was fine, but at the reception he got me a plate and leaned in to kiss me but I shied away and he got up to mingle.
I started feeling ill not too long after and 911 wad called. I realized I was having an allergic reaction but had my pen but still had to be carted off by the ambulance and that's when someone eho was looking for Michael said that he had left with some of the other groomsmen to a bar nearby. I called 6 times and texted that it was an emergency as I was getting checked put by the paramedics and again when they strongly suggested I go to the hospital but he never replied.
I was released hy the hospital and called him to ask him to pick me up but he didn't pick up so I woke up my best friend and she took me home and stayed with me overnight to make sure I was okay. The next morning Michael called me but I was still asleep so he left me a lengthy voicemail yelling at me that I ruined his sister's wedding and that I always have to make things about me. He came over to further berate me and told me he should just break up with me at this point as I am dramatic and this is "all too much" so I pointed out that he had gotten my plate, knew full well that I have a alegit allergy to coconut and that his sister had told me afterwards that he knew that the cake he gave me was the coconut cream cake as all the food had signs saying what it was and what the ingredients were as I am not the only person with allergies that attended. He left telling me that he can't talk to me when I am this way.
I was honestly exhausted so I didn't bother going after him. But his father called me to ask how I was doing and after I answered he then told me how I am hurting Michael's heart by blaming him and Michael has been inconsolable since we fought.
I texted Michael to ask if we could talk but the conversation went back around somehow to the threesome and how I don't respect him even in intimate settings or want to hear him out regarding his needs and make things about me.
I am so confused because to me this feels manipulative but I respect his father so much (I go to their church and he is a pastor there) so to have him tell me I am in the wrong threw me. Aitah?
Edit: a lot of comments are suggesting that this was intentional and I have actually never considered he gave me something I am allergic on purpose and certainly not to use against me to leverage in our argument. But I think I may have to come clean and talk to his parents. I know them well so hopefully it won't go too badly.
Small update: Michael texted me this morning to apologize. He said the wedding was stressing him out and he had a lot on his mind so he accidently handed me the plate he meant for himself, not the one for me. He said he didn't know I was in the hospital and feels bad he wasn't there for me but he left the reception with some of the groomsmen to blow of much needed steam. I don't know how I feel about it all so I just replied "okay" he is now asking to come over and talk this out in person.
2nd edit: For any and all of you calling me stupid or implying I am a child and "why am I still with this guy" etc. Just know, you remind me a lot of him in how he used to put me down and bully me ands it's a real wonder of mine if you treat people in your life like he did me. I suspect you do. Glad to be rid of him and indifferent about you.

Op be honest - have you, now that you are looking back, seen red flags like this? This behavior likely didn't just show up. Have you ever gotten ill after a disagreement with him?

Oddly enough I am sitting with my BFF and she asked me the same question and yes, actually.
Our first real argument that I can remember I was down with a stomach bug for almost a week and he visited me and made soup.
Then the only BIG argument I can recall outside this one, he wanted to use labels really soon onto us going on some dates and I didn't and the next morning, I was sick with chest pains and stomach cramps.
I don't want to sounds dramatic or accusatory but since people have commented he might have purposefully given me something I am allergic to, I just don't know anymore.

NTA - the two of you are completely incompatible. He wants threesomes…you want to attend wedding receptions without leaving in an ambulance.

Okay, when I read this I was with bestie and we've been drinking and the scream I scrumpted laughing so hard nearly killed me more effectively than the coconut lmao
Update - I Am No Longer Welcome at Church June 1, 2024
Well many of you were right I should not have met him in person but I did. He took me out to lunch insisting he pay for it all and it was incredibly over the top. He had flowers and a written letter of apology but as some of you messaged me his apologies dodged the point by way of "if I hurt you" or "that you're feeling x or y feeling" etc. He quoted some scriptures and said he has repented as his carelessness caused me harm.
I wasn't much moved by any of it until he said how much his family loves me and how much our church roots for us as a couple and I kinda sat back and realized that one flimsy reason I was even entertaining forgiving him and staying was because of the pressure I dealt with as the GF of a pastors son. It occurred to me that there were so many times I let things slide because he is the heir apparent so he had the power in the social aspect of our community.
Sorry I know I am rambling but I'm emotional and tipsy.
I remembering just staring at him and saying it was incredibly alarming that by now he can't be aware of my oe Ingle allergy and that he didn't bother to tell his own GF he was stepping out with the guys or even that he was stepping out of his own sisters wedding at all. He then said it was really actually kind of stupid of me to eat a cake that had coconut and implied I am an idiot for not realizing what I had was coconut. I realized then he would never accept that he was in the wrong and thus there was no point.
I stood up and and smiled and said "You know what, don't worry about it. Thanks for dinner. Goodnight." To which he replied that if I wasn't going to grow up and accept his apology I am a waste of his time. He uses that a lot whenever we disagree and it usually hurts me deeply but this time it was like a roladex of memories flooded my brain and I really suspect he's been deliberately making me sick whenever we disagree to teach me a lesson. I said I was done and he needn't waste his time with me from this point on and left. I then sent screenshots to his father explaining the situation as best I can without blaming Michael for prior illnesses without proof and I got a text about 20 minutes ago from his father.
His father is "incredibly dissppinted" in my immaturity and hurt that I wouldn't even give it until Sunday at church where we can pray together, talk it our and heal. I felt this way for a while but I was able to say it this time that using religion as a took of guilt is low and I am no longer concerned with his version of God as that version is a judgemental, cruel, and heartless jerk while the one I always thought of was loving, compassionate, and kind, and I am done. I was told by him and by further emails rolling in that I am no longer welcome at my church until I reconcile with my "true husband" and learn compassion and respect for my leaders.
So I guess that's it. I will enjoy sleeping in tomorrow and eating coconut free food, while lazing about my home rather than going to three sperate church services starting at 8am and then figure it all out from there.
I don't know how to sign off but I do watch a concerning amount of Charlotte Dobre videos and she usually ends things with practical shit like "do your laundry" or something so I will just say - live for yourself, feed your soul, and know you are enough. I certainly am going to put in the work to get there and I hope we all make it to the other side contented, and filled with love and joy.
And by the way, F you Michael. I know you are reading this. I know you know it's me. And I hope your socks are always just a little soggy. 🫶

Here
I forgot to add to my post but I didn't want to bring the threesome requests into it...
...well I sent his daddy screenshots of some texts. If you'd like some drama here are the top two:
1) it was a night I sent him home after he tried and failed to pressure into sex. He sent me that I was missing out and should be grateful since "your body makes me sick, but my love for you is stronger. Would it kill you to be grateful enough to just do a HJ?"
And
2) on his birthday, I had just been in the hospital after passing out from exhaustion and dehydration and went straight to his party. I stayed at his until everyone left and I left soon after helping clean all but the kitchen and he sent "You could have cleaned the kitchen." Then "or stayed over [for sex]." Then "you're a waste of time if I don't even get birthday sex. Thanks a lot."
And after both be suggested adding a 3rd. His dad hasn't responded.

Holy crap. And you stayed with him. You poor girl. No one deserves someone like that in there life.
But you didn't say if you told his dad about him sending you to the hospital and potentially killing you. Becuase we both know and the rest of reddit knows that he did that intentionally.
And if there was proof of him giving you that cake. You could probley send his happy ass to jail.

I didn't and don't have the best self esteem. And here as the only black woman in the town that I've known of, I've always known that I am considered less desirable- not saying that's right - but just knowing where I live. Been here since my preteen years. When Michael asked me out it was like a parade. Everyone acted like it was a Cinderella story and I won a lottery or something. I have a friend who I ha e been texting today and she is letting me know how dumb I've been (I never told her of our issues) and is about ready to commit crimes lol
I think I lost myself for a bit but I wanted to leave the church low-key for a while because of my treatment so that helps a bit

This Isn’t new and this isn’t an unpopular opinion.
But, I just want to scream. Or cry. I’ve been working customer service for almost a decade now in different fields. And lately, people are meaner. Way meaner.
It really feels like at some point my soul just died and shriveled up from how me and my staff have been treated.
I am in a management role at a hotel and do my best to protect my staff, but I will walk in on people tearing these little 20 year olds a new one over a towel having a small stain or bed not being made my housekeepers in the morning. Over being over charged by $4 or not being able to check-in 6 hours early.
And then they come to me and their goal isn’t to get what they want anymore, they want staff FIRED. They want ME fired. They attack me personally. They stick their phone in my face and tell me they are going to put me on facebook. They are going to call corporate. Over small things. Seriously small things.
Everything has been so completely over the top and blown out of proportion these past like two years.
It feels like my soul is dying. I am a grown woman and I have been made to cry at work this year, which has never happened to me before. The woman who made me cry put her camera with flash in my face and told me she didn’t believe my fake tears.
My staff doesn’t want to be here. I barely want to be here. I’m hearing and seeing the same horror stories in other businesses. Retail, food, transportation, everything.
Working with the public used to be a rewarding job. Right now I feel like it’s taking years off of my life. And it’s the most money I’ve ever made, so that really sucks.
I would not speak to my enemy the way some of these people speak to me when I’ve done nothing wrong. How can someone speak to a stranger like that? How can you insult somebody you do not know to their face, see their hurt, and not feel bad about yourself?
They leave me stunned sometimes. I can feel myself losing my kindness. Losing my patience. I’ve built up a reputation of being level-headed and able to calm anyone down. That feat is becoming impossible. The customers don’t WANT to calm down.

2024.06.09 05:35 cooked_vegetables SR makes you like the angels

Before I start this post, I must give a shoutout to the brother "Iron in the Soul" from YouTube for inspiring this post.
As I have gone along my journey of SR and experienced the changes that this practice has brought upon my mind, body, soul, and character, something slowly started to dawn on me. SR is one of the most catalytic practices for the purification of a man. If this practice is followed long and steadfastly enough, I am convinced that it will slowly purify a man to angelic proportions.
Now before we go any further, i'd like to dispel the erroneous pagan depiction of angels as seen in many ancient art pieces and scriptures. These satanic historical accounts often depict angels as feminine childlike creatures with wings that fly around naked shooting arrows through people's hearts or playing musical instruments. Trust me when I say that this depiction is pretty much the polar opposite of what angels actually are. In actuality, angels of the most high are masculine spiritual beings with the following qualities.
  1. Angels are masculine and strong
  2. Angels always conduct their lives and affairs in accordance with natural law
  3. Angels do not tolerate rubbish from anyone, but are subservient to God
  4. Angels stand on business and are very productive
  5. Angels are stern, but also humble and kind
  6. Angels are very attractive beings of light
  7. Angels have an intimidating presence
  8. Angels have extremely powerful voices and don't speak unless absolutely necessary
The qualities above describe the few men I know that are really serious about the SR path. I find that the longer men go on this journey of masculine purity, the more of the characteristics above they adopt. After you've been on SR for a while, you become a lot stronger mentally and physically. You start to have almost allergic reactions to foods and drinks that are not natural. Physically gorgeous, but morally corrupt women start to make your skin crawl. Although you gain much more patience for people who legitimately need it, you also become much less tolerant of rubbish from corrupt people. People start to develop this mix of admiration and fear for you that puts you in exalted positions wherever you go, but because you are subservient to the most high God, you always move with humility and kindness. In short, SR and masculine purity makes angels of men.
Till next time brothers, Godspeed and remain blessed.
Brother Cooked.

2024.06.09 05:14 Prog4ev3r Isle Royale

Isle Royale
My first ever backpacking trip a complete success! Isle Royale was phenomenal!!
My personal ranking: 22/49
Greenstone Ridge is such an experience to hike for hours without a single soul is something i have never experienced this park is truly less about the view and more about the experience and man was the experience ever special.. i would never return solo but with a wife or friend 100% i would
Pros: least visited park if you want to get away from it all this is the best you can get without selling your kidney to go to alaska! The views when they do show up are incredible! Absolutely nothing like the pictures i can show here.
Best park in the USA to learn to backpack without a doubt! I felt safe the whole time solo rangers do a good job of making sure your safe in the most visited back country in the NPS system
Rock Harbor is a great ending point and very accessible for those who desperately need things after the 40 mile hike like showers and food
Cons: when you are hiking for the most part it’s no different then walking in Massachusetts its just trees and nothing really standing out honestly
Mud, mud, and more mud made the trail at times frustratingly brutal
Commercial planes constantly fly overhead ruining the perfection of the silence around you
This was a journey i’ll never forget.. i love isle royale
