A lady here recently remarked that she felt the religion made her lose touch of her body and I believe this is a more general phenomenon especially in the orthodox world that deserve reflection and deprogramming.
In what ways do you think the Jewish collective programmed into you to lose touch of the body and its natural signals? What did you do to restore that connection after leaving? What were some obstacles?
For example, for me, whilst I was undergoing conversion, I tried to fast as many days as possible because the kids I taught just won’t behave unless I had fasted more than 1-2 days before class. They themselves in the meantime ate luxuriously, fries, pizza and freezies. Their white shirts were frequently stained blue and red from their eating, which I saw as a sign of chaotic and corrupt intake of food that were not healthy. The female secretary wouldn’t even say hi to me unless I fasted for 3 days in a row. I internalized the problem at the time because I wanted to achieve my conversion. But it really reflected how people despised my body that was different than theirs. The Chabad rabbis in shul yelling at me not to fast only made it worse because it made me further distrust my body’s signals that saw a need to fast given overwhelming pressures from a highly and judgmental discriminating collective. It was my soul trying to escape all the anxiety of the body.
After I left, I began eating again. But mostly just trusting my internal signals. If something was too much, I’d slow down. If I didn’t trust someone, I’d pay attention. And if a religious person tries to pull me back, I see what’s going on without being too affected. I learned to trust my body again. Minds without bodies can be so stupid and predictable.
It’s frightful to inhabit the body again. In college, I used to be able to workout intensely, sweating out shirts. I began sweating after leaving. I am still grossed out and overwhelmed by signals related to sex but I am becoming more compassionate towards them.
I’d love to hear from other’s experiences. I am sure there is plenty to learn in this area from one another.

I am not against that at all and don't mind doing it, but the issue from her perspective is that it's only a priority because of her, it wasn't a priority of mine originally. Because of that, she feels like she's changing me and we aren't compatible. I tell her it's no sweat off my brow but she says its a lot which makes no sense; only i can decide what's too much for me to compromise, not her.
Church. We're both Christian but thanks to my job the last two years or so I haven't gone to church since I can never get Sundays off and I started to just get used to it. She did not mention this til we started getting into the breakup phase but this is another priority in her life that she wants her man to also share. I went with her a few times but the church service and everyone there primarily only speaks Japanese which I can't speak so I felt awkward going. She offered going to a whole different church but she's been there for two years and i didn't want to just uproot her from her community, ya know? Anyway, just like before, the issue is that church is only a priority because I'm prioritizing her and trying to make her happy, it simply just doesn't come natural
One last thing is I was thinking about buying a house very soon but she said she wants to move around a bit a travel and that means our life goals are so different and we aren't compatible. i’m 19m and i’ve had my fair share of poor religious experiences. i don’t know if they constitute as trauma really, but it has had some effect on my life course. for some context, i’m transgender and queer. my parents raised me in the church, but they never forced any of their beliefs on me. they expressed many times that whatever religion i chose was fine with them, and that they took me to church solely because i was too young to be left home alone. when i was in 6th grade, i came out to my parents as bisexual. they confided in our pastor at the time, because they wanted some support in learning how to navigate my new identity. my parents were then told by the pastor that i was no longer welcomed in that church unless i started leading a better life. my parents quickly decided to let me attend a different church. the only reason i was still required to attend was because they didn’t trust leaving me alone due to a history of self harm. i found solace in the new church, many of my friends from school attended with me, and there was a group of other queer people. the youth pastor never preached against homosexuality or anything. i felt as though i was finally in a place that i belonged. 8th grade came around, and i was still struggling with self harm at the time and i confided in one of the service leaders. we bonded quickly, despite him being at least 7 years older than me. i was young, and i didn’t realize how strange it was for him to take interest in me. in the end, it turned out to be him grooming me. he had sent me inappropriate photos and messages. i told one of my friends about it, thinking it was cool to have an older guy be interested in me. she expressed how weird it was and made me understand, when i confronted the service leader, he acted like he had done nothing wrong. a few weeks went by, and everything was normal. one day, my mom was waiting for me to get out of therapy, and she got a call from the youth pastor. he told her that someone he trusted very well had accused me of drawing satanic symbols while i was in church. i had obviously not done anything like that, i even showed my parents my sketchbooks and my laptop. they didn’t really need the proof, they just wanted to see if it was misinterpreted. they called the pastor back and basically told him that the accusations were bullshit, but to no avail, as i was unfortunately no longer welcome. i was around 14 years old the last time i set foot in a church, my parents finally trusted me to stay home alone and they were sick of people excluding me. they eventually also stopped attending church because of this. recently, i started a new job. i’m a waiter at a local restaurant. during my training, i saw my old youth pastor. i honestly don’t really hold anything against him, because he was just going based on the information he was fed. he didn’t have the authority to really investigate the claims, he just had the responsibility of notifying my parents. i wanted to walk up to him and say hello, but unfortunately i didn’t get a chance. earlier this afternoon, i was at a party and he was there again. another person present at this party was the service leader who groomed me and got me kicked out. i decided to say hello to the youth pastor, he seemed relatively happy to see me. he asked me about my life, and didn’t seem to have a lick of hate towards me. the service leader saw me and kept his back toward me whenever he could. all of this to say that i feel like it’s a sign that i should start going back to church. not the same church of course, but a church. i don’t know though, has anyone else dealt with stuff like this? i just don’t know if this is like meant to be happening to me or something, or if it’s all just crazy coincidence. any advice is helpful.

I also have a lot of well-meaning people in my life who are 100% optimistic and positive regarding my business model. Which is awesome - having cheerleaders in life is the coolest.
I've also been through startup before, and I've watched up-close as plumbing businesses succeed and fail. I've been spending a lot of time recently trying to punch holes in the model, and to figure out where I'm wrong. That's been helpful, but I'm pretty biased, lol; so maybe I'm not my most honest critic.
So, plumbers of reddit with field experience, and those of you who started your own thing from the ground up - please rip this idea to shreds. Seriously, I want to know everything that's wrong with it, and how it's going to fail.
I'm starting with 3 trucks - one plumber, one apprentice per truck, plus me in a smaller service vehicle, also with an apprentice. So, 8 field staff.
I have not structured or budgeted the office staff yet, but I have designated funding.
Compensation: On day 1, everyone, including me, is salaried. Going forward, all staff will be salaried after 90 days, excepting apprentices, who are hourly for their first year (this is for their benefit - I want new folks to feel free to leave with no hard feelings or negative consequences if the work isn't their bag).
Monthly revenue bonuses wil be paid out when a truck's revenue exceeds it's expenses by $10k. The size of the bonus will, of course, increase geometrically as the truck's margin increases that month. I haven't decided if I'm doing calendar months or rolling 4 week periods yet - I'll likely hand that decision to the crews. I want to incentive folks to earn, but I don't want them to be under pressure to earn every single week just to live.I also want them to know that their check is enhanced when the truck is hot - because high-revenue months are usually high-hour months.

On day 1, the 3 plumbers become 10% shareholders between them. They have decided how to split that fairly among themselves, which was pretty cool to see.
The 4 initial apprentices will receive a 5% share divided evenly among them, 1.25% each.
Going forward, apprentices who start their apprenticeship with us will be owners after their first year, and licensed folks who join up will become owners after a period, but we haven't decided what that tenure should be, yet.
Office & shop staff will receive a similar deal, but we can't structure that until we structure that staff and those positions.
My goal is for employees to control 45% of shares within 5 years. I'm open to the company being majority employee-owned eventually, but not until/unless the company pays off startup debt and is stable.
Accountability:
This company will operate in a 'right-to-work' state. The staff - field, office, & shop - have been tasked to form an in-house union within the first year of business. Honestly, I hope they get it done in the first month, but I also kinda hope we're so busy that they need more time haha.
The company will cut a check to help with consultation, training, legal, etc costs to get them off to a running start, but the union will fund itself going forward.
Part of the union's duty will be to keep me accountable. A 3rd party arbiter will be hired on retainer (shockingly cheap, btw) to keep everyone accountable, and to help prevent disagreements from becoming disputes.
Another responsibility of the union will be to present a plan for structuring many aspects of the employee-ownership system. I will have a benefits package secured for the first year of business, but I'd like the employees to have control over that sooner rather than later.

Going forward, apprentices who start their apprenticeship with us will be owners after their first year, and licensed folks who join up will become owners after a period, but we haven't decided what that tenure should be, yet.
Office & shop staff will receive a similar deal, but we can't structure that until we structure that staff and those positions.
My goal is for employees to control 45% of shares within 5 years. I'm open to the company being majority employee-owned eventually, but not until/unless the company pays off startup debt and is stable.
Accountability:
This company will operate in a 'right-to-work' state. The staff - field, office, & shop - have been tasked to form an in-house union within the first year of business. Honestly, I hope they get it done in the first month, but I also kinda hope we're so busy that they need more time haha.
The company will cut a check to help with consultation, training, legal, etc costs to get them off to a running start, but the union will fund itself going forward.
Part of the union's duty will be to keep me accountable. A 3rd party arbiter will be hired on retainer (shockingly cheap, btw) to keep everyone accountable, and to help prevent disagreements from becoming disputes.
Another responsibility of the union will be to present a plan for structuring many aspects of the employee-ownership system. I will have a benefits package secured for the first year of business, but I'd like the employees to have control over that sooner rather than later.

Hey folks, tiny bit of a read but I feel as if going here is a good thing to get some opinions on my view.
So ever since I was a kid I've had this reinforced core belief that are people are evil. Not just surface level wise. Truly deep down to the core evil. Seeing abuse, experiencing many forms of manipulation, seeing history, the state of the world since the dawn of time, personal interactions and traumatic events. I've just had this belief that everyone is out for themselves in a negative light. Greed, lust, power, and much more are such horrible motivators for these things, and it breaks me every night and unmotivated me to move forward in my life. ( not taking my own life ) these things make me believe, whats the point if everyone is so malicious and out to get me? Or what if I become an evil person that ruins others lives? I live in fear of that daily. Also yes I do have anxiety and depression and my therapist thinks I might have possible ptsd that is contributing to all this.
Although people no matter how nice are horrifying and I always need a barrier to protect myself, even with my own family.
It feels as if this isn't what God wants of me? That God might wish for me to bring joy and light by being an example of a Christ follower and brightening this world. I try my best to be nice when no one is looking kinda mentality. Pick up trash when it's not my job, organize something that I know needs to be done. That kinda stuff. And I don't wanna pat myself on the back and seem like a bragging goof saying "oh hey I try all these things" but I never feel reward, even from deep kind hearted thank yous. They have started to become numb feelings masked with happiness due to this feeling of people are evil and they want something from me.
I noticed all this happening after a traumatic event that happened months ago which I'm only now starting to see is actually impacting me more than I thought it would.
TLDR woke up at 2am to glass breaking, screaming and someone trying to open my door. Fearing for my life I grabbed my gun quietly and called 911 after realizing it was my roomate on drugs. Was a whole deal, blood everywhere from roomie breaking things in appt, and police having to restrain him and take him to ER. Threats and everything. Moved same day. Next apt had bug people show up 2 weeks in lease unannounced and chill out downstairs and try and open my door. So I sat in the corner of my room and cried silently for hours thinking my roomate came back or something way worse. I just froze. Happened another time. Decided to move states back home because of this.
This truly solidified all my fears, and more from before. New experiences are hard to create at the moment to combat past one's, I'm truly spiraling and becoming afraid of everything.
Any biblical advice on this homies? Sorry for the word vomit and talking ya'll. Just needed to give context.
(QUICK EDIT) I am back in a new church volunteering doing sound production. While this is good, I feel as if its hard to truly relate to my peers, definitely feels weird and intrusive to be in life groups with people slightly above my age married and with children. Definitely a doozy. And there is experience yes, absolutely. But there's no click. :/ anywho!

So ever since I was a kid I've had this reinforced core belief that are people are evil. Not just surface level wise. Truly deep down to the core evil. Seeing abuse, experiencing many forms of manipulation, seeing history, the state of the world since the dawn of time, personal interactions and traumatic events. I've just had this belief that everyone is out for themselves in a negative light. Greed, lust, power, and much more are such horrible motivators for these things, and it breaks me every night and unmotivated me to move forward in my life. ( not taking my own life ) these things make me believe, whats the point if everyone is so malicious and out to get me? Or what if I become an evil person that ruins others lives? I live in fear of that daily. Also yes I do have anxiety and depression and my therapist thinks I might have possible ptsd that is contributing to all this.
Although people no matter how nice are horrifying and I always need a barrier to protect myself, even with my own family.
It feels as if this isn't what God wants of me? That God might wish for me to bring joy and light by being an example of a Christ follower and brightening this world. To break away these chains of worry and doubt. Constant, minute by minute fear and numbness gone in breakthroughs. But man how can I start ya know?

Hello everyone,
I’m an older adult and I’m newly diagnosed. It is a complicated feeling because so much makes sense now and also I feel more alone than ever. I do intellectualize, so I apologize for all the rambling that follows.
I spent 20 years learning about society only to reach a burnout point now where I can’t even fake the behaviors anymore. I would not say I was ever skilled at being in community or socializing with others, but I did try hard. I thought one day I would be able to be better & find my fit. I don’t think that is going to happen anymore. All my job experience is in customer service/public-facing positions, and I can’t do them anymore. I can barely leave my house. I’ve no friends or family. I’m trying to apply for state assistance, or use non-profit organizations, but so much of that involves convincing people to do things, getting them to understand me and me figuring out what to do when the people aren’t doing the required things.
I was working with a disability employment support specialist, and after 2 months of trying to get help securing work they are refusing to continue because they “can’t meet my need”. I didn’t know they were going to refuse service, and I only found out when they reported it back to the program coordinator. No one is able to explain why they can’t meet my need. My guess is because they were telling me to do customer service, or call centers, and I kept explaining why that is not a sustainable option for me. I may be able to get moved to a new organization for this service, but since my job is separating me next week, and I’m already missing my rent, I don’t feel like I’m going to get more work before I end up homeless.
I am realizing that I spent so many years studying to try to understand people, communities and society that I have nothing else. I don’t have any hobbies I do for enjoyment. I don’t know what brings me joy. I don’t know how I feel comfortable. I don’t know what brings my fulfillment. I’m trying to cope with everything falling apart by finding something fun or interesting to occupy my mind and help regulate my nervous system. Instead I sit here feeling dead inside.
I’m sorry this is long and whiny. I believed I would figure it out if I worked hard enough; I don’t think I will anymore. I wasted my entire life and I’ve built no foundation of sustainability. I think some part of that feeling is grief that I was diagnosed so late, and the thought that maybe if I knew earlier I would have been able to accept myself and make different choices. Of course that is just hindsight nonsense because it isn’t like Autism is an accepted and celebrated disorder and I would probably have had other trauma that goes with treatment and dealing with pain points of when systems meet disability.
I just can’t see the light and I’m so disappointed in how disconnected from myself I am. I don’t see how I am going to recover when I lack the most basic of self-care skills. I grew up in a lot of neglect and abuse, so I can’t even fall back on childhood routines or likes. I don’t remember a time when I felt alive and connected, anymore.

Now the thing is this flatmate (25F) has always been very quiet and initially it felt that maybe she’s just an introvert, hence she keeps to herself mostly doesn’t talk much. We had problems getting along since the beginning because she does things at a slow pace, is forgetful (sometimes when i come home after work, I see the windows open and the lights on), is messy (we share a bathroom and she leaves a bunch of her hair in the drain after every hairwash day and its gross to see that). Basically she’s the youngest in her house and always had her father or brother to do shit for her.
I, on the other hand, come from a family where things weren’t handed to me on a platter and have had a upbringing with the mindset of “getting things done asap” (which def has made me an anxious person)
Anyway, we have always had issues adjusting because I have always had a problem with her just doing things without communicating with me. Example: my room has ac but it didn’t work and when summers started I thought I will only get it serviced after talking to her, and getting her opinion on how she wants to spend summers because one ac is in my room and other is in the hall so i thought maybe we could sleep in the hall together and that would help with the electricity bill also. She was out of town so I spent a few days without the ac because i wanted to talk to her before getting it serviced. But once she was back, she straight up told me how she had already asked the owner for installing another ac in her room without even mentioning it to me because now ofc there would be an increase in the electricity bill. Again, i let it go thinking that maybe she wanted privacy and that’s okay.
But, when the ac was installed in her room thats when she told me to split the installation cost and the ac rent for the ac in her room. For a week she didn’t tell me anything about the cost involved in installing the ac and the ac rent. It wasn’t even my decision to install the ac and neither was I informed that I will have to pay for the ac in her room. (Ac in my room came with the flat so no charges are there for that)
Her behaviour is very strange. At the slightest of arguments or disagreements she starts this silent war where she stops communicating at all and I keep wondering what I have done wrong to deserve this. Yes, clashes happen when you live with someone but i don’t understand this behaviour of putting up a wall and acting as if there is no one else living in the same place. Whenever this has happened, i am the one who initiates conversation after that all the time.
Two weeks ago, i heard her bitching about me to someone on the phone and i was obviously hurt but I don’t keep things to myself and pretend that everything is okay when its not so i told her that I could hear her talking about me. To which, she said “next time if you have a problem with my voice disturbing you please knock on the door.” I mean, i was hurt because of what she was saying and not because i had a problem with her volume.
I was fed up of this and hence decided to send her a text asking her to please not act this way and she confronted me about that text. In that conversation i told her i felt hurt about what she said and she said “I am not responsible for your feelings “ and told that she doesn’t like to justify her actions when i brought up the ac topic. I can’t tell you how much it hurt to hear that from someone who you consider an almost friend and who’s been your flatmate for almost a year. Yes we are different people but imo this was a low blow even when she was in the wrong.
Silent war after this has been going on for over two weeks now and honestly i am so so so tired and anxious all the time. I look for ways to not come to the flat. Lease is ending this month, i will move out but my god this has taken such a toll on my mental health. I just keep crying thinking that it went to this extent because I don’t realise what i have done wrong to deserve this behaviour. I dont even know how can someone be so cruel say words like these, bhai mere ex ne bhi ye sab nahi bola kabhi!!
Anyway, please tell how to adjust for the next month because my god everyday i wake up with anxiety and feeling weird about my living situation and there is this weird aura around all the time. Please help.

The most effective study methods for academic success boil down to:
Time management
There are countless time management techniques, but one beautiful thing about going to school is that a lot of your time is managed for you.
The week and when you need to be in class is arranged.
Professors tell you when assignments are due, etc.
Heck, when I was in university they even gave us calendars for use to write in our due dates.
So the number one thing is to combine what you know with the tools everyone has: the calendar.
In many cases, you can also get advanced notices from professors by simply talking to them before the semester even begins.
You would also do well to explore techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix, time blocking and the Pareto Principle.
Above all, make time management something you study unto itself.
There's no one-size-fits-all approach. But those who study it as the discipline it is will win.
Study Environment Optimization
Studying effectively cannot be random or subject to interruptions.
If you have to study on transit, invest in custom ear plugs of the kind musicians use, not noise-cancelling headphones that will put you at risk in the case of an emergency. Custom ear plugs have filters that let you still hear without being bothered by shrill noises and you can switch between light and heavy filters.
Having multiple study locations worked out in advance is a great strategy because you can walk between them and percolate your thoughts – literally remembering more by simply getting in a bit of exercise. I used to call this "Road Work" when I was in university.
When at home, put a "Do not disturb" sign on your door. Make it clear to others that you are studying and train them to respect the hours you want to put it. Do not compromise. It's your future.

Sure, memory techniques helped… but I can't help but imagine how much more successful I would have been during and after if I'd had better ways of coping with the stress.
Diet, fitness, mindfulness practices, time off with friends for positive and healthy recreation. This is not complicated, though when you're young, impulsivity can certainly make it seem that way.
Exam Preparation Strategies
This basically comes back to properly using your calendar and memory techniques.
For the benefits of what is sometimes called state-dependent or context-dependent memory, it can be useful to study where you will take your exams. It's advisable to use Memory Palaces based on these exam rooms whenever possible.
(Those terms are the kinds of insider memory hacks you'll enjoy only when you understand your memory science, and there are many more that can help you with your exam prep.)
Take mock tests as much as you can. Reflect on what you're learning often. Talk about it with other students.
Don't cram and avoid wasting time on the fantasy that there are any "subject-specific study tips." Maybe if you're in nursing school and need to have patient bodies in specific position, but generally tests are about words, numbers and symbols. Learn how to commit them to memory and talk as much as you can about the information so it is well-exercised before you sit for your exams.

There are many benefits to group study if you can select solid group members. This can be tricky, but one way to do it involves a slightly involved strategy:
Try to be part of a club or association. I was president of the English Undergraduate Student Association at York University in Toronto, for example. This drew precisely the right people because anyone who wanted to be part of the association already loved English Literature by default.
After you find the right members, it's just a matter of scheduling regular meetings based on decent agendas and following reasonable time limits so you don't burn out.
One thing my fave study group in university did a lot was to share reading. In other words, we'd each tackle an article or book and then present on it.
Ultimately, you still have to do the reading yourself, but it forms a nice mental framework that makes reading faster and easier when someone you can speak with has summarized the core ideas. These days, you can search YouTube and podcasts for this kind of summarization much of the time, but it's still not the same as being in a study group with other people.
You also get experience with peer teaching and tutoring this way, which is hugely beneficial for your memory. Even if you never intend to teach yourself, the simple effort that goes into preparing and delivering short presentations will benefit you in the short-term for your exams and long-term in your career. Don't worry about whether you understand what you're reading or not. Soon, moments of insight will arise.
Even if it doesn't happen soon, rest assured that will. There are aspects of philosophy that didn't come clear to me until after 30 years of reading. I'm not ashamed of this at all. I just haven't read and reflected enough to connect the dots. But if I had read above my level sooner, I probably would have had the insights sooner.

This area is kind of heavy on the brain science, but well worth an afternoon or two to figure out the implications in your life.
Just watch out: When optimizing your dopamine levels for motivation, you could wind up enlightened and have your ego make you think you're better than everyone else… which would not be enlightenment. But it'll sure feel that way.
That's why the next category is so important.

A lot of education involves humans who weigh what they teach and how they teach it based on subjective agendas. It's pretty difficult for anyone not to do that.
When you spend some time developing your critical thinking skills, you'll be able to determine when teachers and writers/video creators, etc. are being too subjective or otherwise slaves to any number of cognitive biases.
Likewise, you'll be able to spot them in yourself and weed many of them out before they can distract you.
The simplest way to use critical thinking while studying is to put Why, Where, When, Who and How up on a Memory Wheel and constantly rotate through it.
As you learn more about different thinkers, you can also start to ask, "What would Freud say about this? What would Skinner say? What would x say?"
To do this, study as many of the sciences and Liberal Arts as you possibly can. If you don't know where to start, go through the Trivium and then the Quadrivium. Knowing how to think through those seven lenses and ask what the major figures in each field would generally say will help you "triangulate" just about any issue and think both objectively and subjectively about it and know which is which.
Self-Assessment And Improvement
Ultimately, the best judge of your progress is you.
To make sure you're giving yourself good materials to judge yourself by, journal, ideally daily.
If you can, keep two journals:
A snapshot journal that simply lists what you did on a particular day.
A discursive journal where you reflect on your thoughts about how things went.
There are many formal products you can buy that will help you journal in particular ways. The Freedom Journal has been one of my faves, but the real tip is to experiment with as many journaling styles as you can in the two main styles I just mentioned.
As you can tell, there's not that much when it comes to embracing a wide number of learning strategies. Apply these tips to the study resources you need to cover on your way to the exam room and you'll do well.
Take Care Around Technology And Studying
There are tons of apps that can help "gamify" these activities, but at the end of the day, gamification is really just a mental metaphor. If it doesn't work for you, find a better metaphor.

Academic success can indeed be enjoyable, and all the more so when you work out what will make it enjoyable and meaningful for you. Personalize as much of the journey as you can, constantly applying critical thinking to every suggestion you come across and all of your study experiences will become much, much more rewarding.

Time management
There are countless time management techniques, but one beautiful thing about going to school is that a lot of your time is managed for you.
The week and when you need to be in class is arranged.
Professors tell you when assignments are due, etc.
Heck, when I was in university they even gave us calendars for use to write in our due dates.
So the number one thing is to combine what you know with the tools everyone has: the calendar.
In many cases, you can also get advanced notices from professors by simply talking to them before the semester even begins.
You would also do well to explore techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix, time blocking and the Pareto Principle.
Above all, make time management something you study unto itself.
There's no one-size-fits-all approach. But those who study it as the discipline it is will win.
Study Environment Optimization
Studying effectively cannot be random or subject to interruptions.
If you have to study on transit, invest in custom ear plugs of the kind musicians use, not noise-cancelling headphones that will put you at risk in the case of an emergency. Custom ear plugs have filters that let you still hear without being bothered by shrill noises and you can switch between light and heavy filters.
Having multiple study locations worked out in advance is a great strategy because you can walk between them and percolate your thoughts – literally remembering more by simply getting in a bit of exercise. I used to call this "Road Work" when I was in university.
When at home, put a "Do not disturb" sign on your door. Make it clear to others that you are studying and train them to respect the hours you want to put it. Do not compromise. It's your future.
Note-Taking Strategies
There are many different kinds of note-taking methods. My fave is to use Zettelkasten in combination with Memory Palaces.

Hi everyone. I am not sure this is the right community to post this but I cannot think of anything else right now so here it goes.
I moved to Mumbai last July for my job as a banker in a public sector bank and I share a flat with a colleague (works in a different branch of the same bank)
Now the thing is this flatmate (25F) has always been very quiet and initially it felt that maybe she’s just an introvert, hence she keeps to herself mostly doesn’t talk much. We had problems getting along since the beginning because she does things at a slow pace, is forgetful (sometimes when i come home after work, I see the windows open and the lights on), is messy (we share a bathroom and she leaves a bunch of her hair in the drain after every hairwash day and its gross to see that). Basically she’s the youngest in her house and always had her father or brother to do shit for her.
I, on the other hand, come from a family where things weren’t handed to me on a platter and have had a upbringing with the mindset of “getting things done asap” (which def has made me an anxious person)
Anyway, we have always had issues adjusting because I have always had a problem with her just doing things without communicating with me. Example: my room has ac but it didn’t work and when summers started I thought I will only get it serviced after talking to her, and getting her opinion on how she wants to spend summers because one ac is in my room and other is in the hall so i thought maybe we could sleep in the hall together and that would help with the electricity bill also. She was out of town so I spent a few days without the ac because i wanted to talk to her before getting it serviced. But once she was back, she straight up told me how she had already asked the owner for installing another ac in her room without even mentioning it to me because now ofc there would be an increase in the electricity bill. Again, i let it go thinking that maybe she wanted privacy and that’s okay.
But, when the ac was installed in her room thats when she told me to split the installation cost and the ac rent for the ac in her room. For a week she didn’t tell me anything about the cost involved in installing the ac and the ac rent. It wasn’t even my decision to install the ac and neither was I informed that I will have to pay for the ac in her room. (Ac in my room came with the flat so no charges are there for that)
Her behaviour is very strange. At the slightest of arguments or disagreements she starts this silent war where she stops communicating at all and I keep wondering what I have done wrong to deserve this. Yes, clashes happen when you live with someone but i don’t understand this behaviour of putting up a wall and acting as if there is no one else living in the same place. Whenever this has happened, i am the one who initiates conversation after that all the time.
Two weeks ago, i heard her bitching about me to someone on the phone and i was obviously hurt but I don’t keep things to myself and pretend that everything is okay when its not so i told her that I could hear her talking about me. To which, she said “next time if you have a problem with my voice disturbing you please knock on the door.” I mean, i was hurt because of what she was saying and not because i had a problem with her volume.
I was fed up of this and hence decided to send her a text asking her to please not act this way and she confronted me about that text. In that conversation i told her i felt hurt about what she said and she said “I am not responsible for your feelings “ and told that she doesn’t like to justify her actions when i brought up the ac topic. I can’t tell you how much it hurt to hear that from someone who you consider an almost friend and who’s been your flatmate for almost a year. Yes we are different people but imo this was a low blow even when she was in the wrong.
Silent war after this has been going on for over two weeks now and honestly i am so so so tired and anxious all the time. I look for ways to not come to the flat. Lease is ending this month, i will move out but my god this has taken such a toll on my mental health. I just keep crying thinking that it went to this extent because I don’t realise what i have done wrong to deserve this behaviour. I dont even know how can someone be so cruel say words like these, bhai mere ex ne bhi ye sab nahi bola kabhi!!
Anyway, please tell how to adjust for the next month because my god everyday i wake up with anxiety and feeling weird about my living situation and there is this weird aura around all the time. Please help.

Sorry for the very long post but I would appreciate it if you read it all the way through.
Hey, when I was 8 years old I was diagnosed with auditory dyslexia. To my knowledge now this is considered a separate learning disability called auditory processing disorder? But I do believe if I were rediagnosed today that I would be diagnosed with both dyslexia and APD since I have symptoms of both disorders and it’s very common to have both, but the APD has been more severe and debilitating. At the time of my diagnosis I was in 2nd grade and couldn’t even read 3 letter words. I was living with my mentally ill mother who wouldn’t always take me to school and it was also an environment where academic progression was very difficult. Without trauma dumping or getting in more detail, it got to the point where CPS got involved, so I started living with my godfather, which was a better environment for me to learn. I got diagnosed, so I started speech therapy, after school tutoring and special Ed classes at my school. My school was a choice/charter K-8 school where applicants were randomly chosen to get in. This school would teach up to 3 grades in advance, focus on STEM, and used new experimental teaching methods. Overall it was expected of you to preform above average and we would always perform above average on standardized tests for our school average. I think this is what spawned my inferiority complex/intelligence insecurity. I was around all these kids that were so gifted and I was among the select few that had to attend special Ed, it was so humiliating. I even remember being bullied about it on a few occasions. Fast forward to 5th grade my tutor referred me to get reevaluated at a learning center because of my high performance. After all the testing it was revealed I had a 128 IQ and an 11th grade reading comprehension level and I scored grades above average in every subject. It was such a relief since it meant I didn’t have to do special Ed or tutoring anymore which I found so humiliating. Even after I didn’t have to do any of those programs anymore I still was offered a personalized paraprofessional or extra time on tests which I always refused because I just wanted to be treated the same as everyone else. I never was able to get good grades but I always did exceptionally well on standardized tests. Even when I was in high school. A time where I was addicted to drugs (high 90% of the time ) and failed most my classes I still scored exceptionally well on all my standardized tests besides my ACT, which I scored 1 point below average. Deep down I know I’m not stupid, but i am slow, if that makes sense. For example I loose my place when I’m reading constantly, and have to reread the same sentence up to half a dozen times to understand what it means, which takes a lot of time. Since the ACT is a timed test I think that’s why I didn’t do as well on it. I could’ve probably got extra time on it due to my disability, but do to my insecurity I didn’t want to do that. Anyways to this day I have horrible spelling/grammer, have to proof read everything I type and edit it, even simple texts because it’s always riddled with mistakes. I probably proof read this post 2 dozen times since it’s so long. The symptoms more associated with APD are: stuttering, always mishearing people so my response to them doesn’t make sense, talking very slow and having to think about every word I say, misspeaking, and overall my vocabulary is so bad unless I take the time and effort to think about everything, which is only possible when typing, so when I speak I sound stupid. Anyways all of the listed things i mentioned plus general mistakes I make, make me feel like a dumbass, and it’s hard to feel otherwise. It’s like I cognitively know I’m not stupid but deep down in my heart that’s how I feel. Anyways I’m just wondering how many other people with dyslexia have delt with this same/similar issue? Is there any advice or words that you could give me to help me get over this? Thank you for reading this very long post!❤️

Hey, when I was 8 years old I was diagnosed with auditory dyslexia. To my knowledge now this is considered a separate learning disability called auditory processing disorder? But I do believe if I were rediagnosed today that I would be diagnosed with both dyslexia and APD since I have symptoms of both disorders and it’s very common to have both, but the APD has been more severe and debilitating. At the time of my diagnosis I was in 2nd grade and couldn’t even read 3 letter words. I was living with my mentally ill mother who wouldn’t always take me to school and it was also an environment where academic progression was very difficult. Without trauma dumping or getting in more detail, it got to the point where CPS got involved, so I started living with my godfather, which was a better environment for me to learn. I got diagnosed, so I started speech therapy, after school tutoring and special Ed classes at my school. My school was a choice/charter K-8 school where applicants were randomly chosen to get in. This school would teach up to 3 grades in advance, focus on STEM, and used new experimental teaching methods. Overall it was expected of you to preform above average and we would always perform above average on standardized tests for our school average. I think this is what spawned my inferiority complex/intelligence insecurity. I was around all these kids that were so gifted and I was among the select few that had to attend special Ed, it was so humiliating. I even remember being bullied about it on a few occasions. Fast forward to 5th grade my tutor referred me to get reevaluated at a learning center because of my high performance. After all the testing it was revealed I had a 128 IQ and an 11th grade reading comprehension level and I scored grades above average in every subject. It was such a relief since it meant I didn’t have to do special Ed or tutoring anymore which I found so humiliating. Even after I didn’t have to do any of those programs anymore I still was offered a personalized paraprofessional or extra time on tests which I always refused because I just wanted to be treated the same as everyone else. I never was able to get good grades but I always did exceptionally well on standardized tests. Even when I was in high school. A time where I was addicted to drugs (high 90% of the time ) and failed most my classes I still scored exceptionally well on all my standardized tests besides my ACT, which I scored 1 point below average. Deep down I know I’m not stupid, but i am slow, if that makes sense. For example I loose my place when I’m reading constantly, and have to reread the same sentence up to half a dozen times to understand what it means, which takes a lot of time. Since the ACT is a timed test I think that’s why I didn’t do as well on it. I could’ve probably got extra time on it due to my disability, but do to my insecurity I didn’t want to do that. Anyways to this day I have horrible spelling/grammer, have to proof read everything I type and edit it, even simple texts because it’s always riddled with mistakes. I probably proof read this post 2 dozen times since it’s so long. The symptoms more associated with APD are: stuttering, always mishearing people so my response to them doesn’t make sense, talking very slow and having to think about every word I say, misspeaking, and overall my vocabulary is so bad unless I take the time and effort to think about everything, which is only possible when typing, so when I speak I sound stupid. Anyways all of the listed things i mentioned plus general mistakes I make, make me feel like a dumbass, and it’s hard to feel otherwise. It’s like I cognitively know I’m not stupid but deep down in my heart that’s how I feel. Anyways I’m just wondering how many other people with dyslexia have delt with this same/similar issue?
