2024.05.18 22:37 sadsadsock Teenager says he wants to learn, then ignores everyone teaching him

I'll start out by saying I'm pretty sure since finding this Reddit and spending the last three days reading stories from here, I've unintentionally cursed our table. I thought to myself "wow, I'm pleased everyone at the table I play at seems nice and we don't have these problems".
Oops :)
We had two new players at the table - one being the Druid who had passed our table the previous week and was excited to see we were playing DnD and how he wanted to learn, and we told him it was a beginners game so he could come down and try it out, especially as we were starting a new campaign the following week so everyone would be at the same point and making their characters.
The Druid was about 13 (the rest of us ranging between late teens to mid 30s) and excitedly talking about how he's wanted to learn to play DnD so he can start a club at school, and so a few people were helping him write his character. The rest of us were a Wizard, Cleric (me), Paladin, Fighter, and Ranger. Instantly he kept getting distracted, asking everyone about their characters, what their names were, what their races were. Which is fine, he's excited. But he quickly turned it into a competition (for example, "What's your armour class? 7? OMG I'm SOOOO much stronger, mines 12, I'm the strongest, yeah!"). Once his stats were done, he was told to think about his traits/backstory while the rest of us finished up our sheets, but he kept yelling "Are you ready yet??? When are we going to start??? Can we start already???"
Which... Okay again that's fine. He's excited. But it's gonna take a lot longer if you keep interrupting us.
Eventually we start out. The DM starts setting the scene - we wake up in a room on a ship, there's a man sitting in there with us who explains our quest on the island we're moored at. Before anyone can say or do anything the Druid says "I set fire to the ship!" Everyone asks him why he would do that and he said "Because I'm crazy!". The DM has us roll and we discover the ship is enchanted ie it cannot be attacked or affected by statuses. The Druid turns his attention to the man and asks why they should do what he's telling them. The man explains they've already been paid. Druid asks for more money. The man says no. Druid declares he doesn't trust this man and says "I kill this man and chop his head off!". The Wizard tells him that if he does this, he will attack the Druid himself. He still insists that he wants to kill the man. DM has him make a roll, which he fails. He keeps insisting he's going to kill everyone we approach, at what point we explain the concept of a murderhobo and how, yknow, he shouldn't be one.
After we finally got him out of the room, things didn't get better.
Obviously I know that he's young, and I'm being harsh, and I know it was his first game, and he definitely has the enthusiasm, but his lack of interest in understanding the game and rules despite being told them over and over really worries me what the next session will be like. He wants instant gratification, things handed to him on a silver platter and to be the most important, the strongest, the smartest. I felt like a babysitter. There were other examples of things he was told over and over that he refused to take on board. I swear my 7 year old niece understands taking turns better than he did.
Any advice in handling him, or suggestions I can make to him would be welcome. I'm curious where he learnt about DnD to see if there's any examples of etiquette I can give him the next time he comes along to a session. Best case scenario that he maybe goes away, thinks over what he's been told, and comes back next session with a little more understanding. Hopefully.

2024.05.18 22:35 Anxious_Battle_3624 How to ‘protect’ my brand with multiple Ad Facebook accounts (farming)?

We’re in the process of setting up our socials as a small agency. Primarily because we want to start running some social ads to potential clients but also to build our organic/social presence.
The problem is we have tons of data that we’d like to leverage for custom audiences. This data is a mixture of first and third party data - namely emails, phone numbers and locations.
However, this is naturally against FB’s TOS, so we don’t want to use the data in our actual main account. Instead we wanted to use other accounts incase we get a ban - something which is seemingly very common amongst FB media buyers in general.
We were thinking of using a something like Multilogin or AdsPower to hide our identity. This would allow us to warm up our accounts, as-well as create both business manager & ad accounts.
However where the plan goes off the rails is what do we do for the brand page that we run ads for ? Do we have a fake one that we add some content to ? The ads would obviously lead to our actual website but I’m sure FB’s algorithm is pretty good at identifying cloned accounts.
Any input from the experienced farmers or just other general brand owners would be much appreciated!
TL;DR . We don’t want to risk our personal/ brand pages on FB and insta so want to create a work around using multiple accounts - what’s the best way to go about this ?

2024.05.18 22:35 RubyFurness How do you know if you want to retire early?

While pondering the age old question of whether to put extra funds into offset/supeETFs, I've come to realise that I don't actually know what my goals are.
Just for a bit of context, I'm 32F with two little ones and husband 34M living in regional QLD. Spent much of my 20s travelling and working odd jobs, but am now working for local government in a casual role I love and can see myself doing until retirement. I'm currently making about 20k a year but am hoping to go full time once kids are older, probably another 5 - 6 years away. Full time I'd be making close to 70k.
While I currently love my role and can definitely do it until retirement... How do you know when you want to retire, or at least slow down? Do I just invest equally inside and outside super and hope for the best? Considering that my income will likely go up in a few years, should I focus more on ETFs now and worry about super when I'm in a higher tax bracket?
We're currently salary sacrificing in my husband's name (32% tax bracket) and using my tax-free income to buy ETFs. Is this the best approach for us regardless of when we decide to stop working? I don't even know what I want now, how do I know what I want in 20 - 30 years?
Sorry if this is a jumbled mess, my adhd brain is not great at writing coherent posts

2024.05.18 22:33 itzmikiii Knock off Novi Stars

Knock off Novi Stars
TLDR; Bought these on AliExpress and restyled them.
I saw these circulating on the internet and I couldn’t help myself! They’re Novi Star heads on Monster High bodies. From what I’ve gathered on the internet, they’re genuine parts. Most likely overstock that no one ever came back for. The bodies are a little old, so I had to be extra careful with the articulations.
Picture 1: straight out of the parcel bag Picture 2: unwrapped completely. I ordered three so this is how they were packaged. Picture 3: standing straight out of the package without adjustments. I did notice that the bodies were dirty/scuffed Picture 4: I started restyling them and saw that they’re bald in the middle!! So they can only wear updos. It is possible to reroot them or glue on some tracks. Picture 5: some of the heads were pushed all the way down. I prefer the head at the top of the neck, so I pulled them up, this is a side angle to show that. Picture 6: fashion packs I got from dollar tree. I’ve been holding onto these for about a year, so I’m not sure if these are still available. Also this is not a fashion pack post per se, but the dollar tree ones, while cute, are not durable. I had to be extra gentle with the Velcro tabs. Picture 7: restyle of one doll. I’ve since named her Starla. Picture 8: restyle of all three. The black outfit is from Rainbow High Ainsley. I was surprised that the pink one had curly hair. There was little to no products in their hair.
Overall: I think they’re charming! I like them on the taller articulated bodies. I am considering head swapping the pink one onto a newer Draculaura body. The pink one’s body was stiff. The blue one’s body was way too loose. She can’t stand upright. So if she’s not on a doll stand, she needs to be sitting. The white one was in the best condition. Also, their lashes were crushed and splayed, so I might give them new lash extensions. Will post again if I do.

2024.05.18 22:28 lawrencedun2002 Here's how a makeup artist from Springfield collaborated with Gypsy Rose Blanchard in LA

Here's how a makeup artist from Springfield collaborated with Gypsy Rose Blanchard in LA
Alexis Oakley has done makeup for Emma Stone, Paris Hilton, Demi Lovato, and Kris Jenner, but her work has never garnered as much attention as when she "glammed" Gypsy Rose Blanchard two weeks ago.
Oakley, a Springfield native, met with the newfound celebrity May 1, when Blanchard was in Los Angeles for a red carpet event promoting her new Lifetime docuseries, "Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up." Oakley met Blanchard in her hotel room, where she did her makeup and the two created social media content together.
Oakley and Blanchard had about two hours to do hair and makeup and one hour to create social media photos and videos. They also stopped in a nearby Sephora for about an hour to shop together. Oakley has posted more than nine videos on her TikTok and Instagram from the collaboration, which have garnered more than 70 million impressions, she said. She also gained more than 250,000 followers on TikTok, almost overnight. As of Wednesday, Oakley has more than 490,600 followers on TikTok.
"I've never gained so many followers from anyone before," Oakley told the News-Leader on Wednesday. "Obviously, I've worked with traditional celebrities ... and a tag can help my career, for sure, but the Gypsy Rose Effect is unlike anything."
Connecting with Gypsy
The collaboration began back in December 2023, a few days after Blanchard was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center, where she served an eight-year sentence for conspiring to kill her mother Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard" with her then-boyfriend Nick Godejohn in 2015.
Blanchard was released from prison Dec. 28 and on Dec. 30, Oakley posted a TikTok video of her setting up her makeup kit with the caption, "Clearing my schedule in case Gypsy Rose wants glam." The video was a part of a trend where TikTokers made videos of them "clearing their schedules" to do specific activities with Blanchard. As of Wednesday, Oakley's video had more than 454,200 views.
Though the video garnered more engagement than her other content, Oakley said she didn't think much of it. However, she was genuinely interested in doing Blanchard's makeup.
"After that, I saw that she was doing press in New York and getting her hair and makeup done and I was like, 'Okay, she's about to start being a glam girl, how can I get my name in there?'" Oakley recalled. "I DMed (direct messaged) her a million times (on Instagram), but obviously she wasn't seeing anything because I think she got 12 million followers overnight."
Oakley decided to take it a step further and began sifting through the list of accounts Blanchard followed on Instagram, which at the time was about 100.
"I was just looking for someone who was maybe a manager, publicist or friend," Oakley continued. "I ended up finding a few girls who worked on the Lifetime team and DMed them and said, 'Oh my gosh, I saw Gypsy is doing press. How can I glam her? Can you connect me? Who should I reach out to?' and they were like, 'Oh my gosh, we actually saw your TikTok.'" In January, Lifetime aired a six-episode docuseries called "The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard," which chronicled the history of Blanchard's case and some of her life in prison.
After connecting with members of Lifetime, it was about four months before Oakley heard from them again, which she said is typical when working with celebrities. Then out of nowhere Oakley received the call: Are you available? Gypsy is coming to Los Angeles.
Four hours and a lasting friendship
According to Oakley, Blanchard was only in Los Angeles for about 24 hours. Ahead of the Lifetime red carpet event, Blanchard visited Santa Monica Pier — it was her first time seeing the ocean — and did some staple California activities, like trying In-N-Out Burger. Then, Blanchard and Oakley met up for hair and makeup in Blanchard's hotel room.
"We just connected right away," Oakley said of Blanchard. "I filmed the entire process, which I typically try to do with my clients ... She was so sweet, such an easy client and just so excited to learn about makeup and just asking questions the entire time: 'What's this product? How do you apply this? Why are you putting it there? What does this do? Have I been doing this wrong?' (She) was very, very eager to learn, which is so fun for me."
During hair and makeup, Oakley learned that Blanchard had never been to a Sephora, so she asked Blanchard's team if they would have enough time to run by a nearby mall. Fortunately, they were able to work it into her schedule.
The two bought an array of makeup products, including moisturizer, foundation and concealer, blush, mascara, eyebrow pencils and lip liner.
"It was just so sweet and it honestly made me so emotional taking her as she'd never been before, she's 32 years old and doesn't really know how to do her makeup," Oakley said. "Watching her light up when I would tell her about certain products ... was just really, really cool."
Since Blanchard's visit to Los Angeles, Oakley said the two have been texting back and forth daily. And while nothing is confirmed, Oakley said Blanchard told her that she would like for her to do her makeup for her wedding, when that day comes.
Getting started and what's next
Oakley got her start doing prom and bridal makeup in her parent's basement in high school, but she knew she was interested in more sophisticated work.
A few weeks after graduating from New Covenant Academy in 2016, Oakley moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18. Upon arriving, she enrolled at Make-Up Designory, a five-month professional make-up training program.
"Two days before I graduated Make-Up Designory, I landed a job as an assistant for a really huge celebrity makeup artist. That was kind of that moment for me where I was like, 'Okay, I think this is supposed to be what I do." The makeup artist was Rachel Goodwin, who has worked with Emma Stone, Laura Dern, Jennifer Lawrence, Zendaya and countless other A-list celebrities.
Oakley said she spent about four years working as an assistant for various celebrity makeup artists before establishing herself independently. The first two celebrities she worked with on her own were Paris Hilton and Jessica Alba, both in the same week.
More recently, Oakley has enjoyed collaborating with social media content creators including Tanya Mongeau, Trisha Paytas and Brianna LaPaglia.
When it comes to Oakley's relationship with Blanchard, she said she hopes to stay in contact and do her makeup anytime she's in Los Angeles.
As for future clients, Oakley said her dream celebrity that she would like to work with is Hailey Bieber. She also hopes to host more in-person events like meet-and-greets and masterclasses.

2024.05.18 22:24 sharing-my_testimony do you understand why people are wary of Christians?

obviously disliking a whole group of people is ridiculous so no it’s not valid. I’m not advocating for people to mistreat Christians or discriminate against us.
but I understand why people seem to be wary of Christians because some Christians take parts of the Bible and twist it for their own benefit constantly.
i’m prepared to get downvoted but that speech that a footballer made trying to say that a woman’s life doesn’t start until becoming a mother and a wife was disappointing. To tell them that during their graduation wasn’t done in love and obviously was a attempt to get attention.
but so many Christians are defending him and I’m not shocked because these days Christianity is so tied into politics that it’s barely a religion/relationship anymore.
no im not saying it’s bad to be a mother or wife! I am the biggest hopeless romantic… I have shelfs of romance books and Pinterest board for my future wedding. I even already picked out my future kids first & middle name because I love children. I definitely see marriage and children in my future so please don’t confuse my words.
BUT if I was graduating college and the speech was downplaying my hard work and telling me that my life doesn’t start until I have kids/get married, I wouldn’t feel the best and would be hurt. Granted I heard it was a catholic college so maybe that’s not that a big deal to them…
it’s literally in the Bible that it’s better to stay unmarried and focus on God completely. Clearly God doesn’t think any less of us if we chose don’t not to do those things. So why make it seem like it’s a commandment?
so when people say that people hate Christians because they follow Jesus I feel like it’s only 45% true. Obviously people are going to hate you when you tell them that its a sin to get drunk, sleep around, etc
but the reason why most people are wary of Christians if because of the portion of Christians who are so blatantly mean, homophobic, not full of love, and do all this with a victim mindset telling them they are persecuted for facing backlash…
I can’t speak for christians in real life since media does make problems bigger then they actually are.All the Christians I have met have been so kind but I try to keep things light with my fellow Christians because I don’t want to be disappointed if I find out they have a similar mentality…
Do I make sense?

2024.05.18 22:24 FishOffMan Revival 2 Fan Theory

I was just thinking about the albums names and remembered about Revival, and made me think of the upcoming albums title: “The Death of Slim Shady.” It seems weird that Eminem would try to kill off Slim Shady but what if it’s just a set up for him coming out next year with “Revival 2: Slim Shady” with him trying to redeem himself with a really solid album and bringing back the Slim Shady persona since that part was only really present for Framed on Revival 1. Idk I thought it was a fun little concept I thought about right now at work. Thought it would be cool to share

2024.05.18 22:24 DeusExMaChino If it's your first time with tri-tip, read this

Tri-tip has 2 grains

Don't assume that you can wing the slicing; it's not as intuitive as most other cuts. It has 2 separate grains that do not run in the same direction. You can easily differentiate between these grains when the meat is raw. There's usually one that runs the majority of the cut from one long tip to what I'll call "the armpit", and a smaller one that runs from the other tip to the armpit. How do you handle this at slicing time? I think the easiest and best way is to:
  1. First cut directly between where the two grains meet
  2. Now that you have two pieces that each have a single grain, look at the direction each piece's grain runs and slice perpendicular to the grain
Easy, right? Well, it might sound easier than it is, so here's a link that has some visuals.

Traditional Santa Maria-style

Tri-tip originated from Santa Maria, California. Whether you've had it at a Central Coast/Santa Maria-style BBQ joint or have never had it in your life, you might be looking to recreate that authentic experience yourself. Here's more on that:

Seasoning

Santa Maria-style tri-tip is typically seasoned only with a dry rub that, at a minimum, consists of salt, pepper, and garlic powdesalt. Here's a recipe. If you're not going for Santa Maria-style, season it as you would any steak.

Grilling/Smoking

Santa Maria-style tri-tip is typically grilled over medium heat using a Santa Maria grill. The fuel is usually red oak, and the heat is controlled by adjusting the height of the grill grates. I'd imagine most people don't have one of these and don't have access to one, so the best way to recreate this flavor would be to cook it like you would cook a thick steak. Smoke to preference — expecting carryover cooking of around 10°F —then sear.

Trisket-style

As implied by the name, this is when you smoke tri-tip in the style of brisket. I haven't personally done this, but I don't think it really requires much of an explanation. Season and cook it like you would cook a brisket.
Did I miss anything or get anything wrong? Got some tips of your own? Let's hear them. Hope this helps.

I’m frankly shocked that Extreme Rocks hasn’t created one yet. Let’s get it done and fulfill our destiny. There are too many nerds hanging around the DT to let them languish without a paleo ping forever.

2024.05.18 22:22 Ok-fine-man Aidan Gilllen has to be the coolest and most underappreciated TV actor in the business - it's insane how strong his resume is

I'm calling Aidan Gillen underappreciated as most people would probably have to Google him rather than recognise him by name.
He's an Irish actor who's had big acting credits in so many great shows, critically and commercially. Just absolutely bossing it.
The Wire - seen as the greatest series ever by a lot of people. He plays Jimmy Carcetti, a mayoral candidate who is very compelling.
Game of Thrones - certainly the most popular series ever. Gillen plays the wiley and conspiratorial Little Finger, and it seems like he was born for this role.
Love/Hate - incredible Irish gangster show, you're doing yourself disservice if you haven't seen, also stars Misfits actor Robert Sheehan. Gillen plays an intimidating mob boss with a crazy streak. Ireland's answer to The Sopranos.
Kin - another Irish gangster show which has clearly been heavily influenced by Love/Hate, also stars Daredevil actor Charlie Cox. Gillen plays a completely different character in this - a cowardly gay head of a crime family
Quantum Break - an Xbox/PC game that also features a fully fledged miniseries TV show. Gillen plays a really great villain in this.
Peaky Blinders - he plays a less substantive role in this but still a very cool gig, which is worth a mention
P.s
I feel like the only other TV actor who came close was Lance Reddick (also in The Wire and Quantum Break). And he was the king of cool.
Watch Bosch if you want to see Reddick at his best, such a smooth operator in that. Then watch Corporate, he's so utterly funny in that.
Also, a shout out for Stephen Graham and Tom Hollander! Always in the best projects .

Insider Tips for Visiting Niagara Falls in 2024

1. Beat the Crowds
While Niagara Falls is a popular destination year-round, the peak season tends to be during the summer months, when schools are out and the weather is warmest. If you want to avoid the largest crowds and potentially save on accommodations, consider visiting during the spring (April–May) or fall (September–October) shoulder seasons. Not only will you enjoy smaller crowds and potentially lower prices, but you’ll also be treated to the stunning natural beauty of the changing seasons in the Niagara region.
2. Pack Appropriately
The weather at Niagara Falls can be unpredictable, with temperatures ranging from hot and humid in the summer to freezing in the winter. Be sure to pack layers and waterproof clothing, as the mist from the falls can leave you damp, even on a sunny day. Additionally, sturdy shoes with good traction are a must, as many of the walking paths and trails can be slippery.
3. Consider a Niagara Falls Discovery Pass
If you plan on visiting multiple attractions during your stay, consider purchasing a Niagara Falls Discovery Pass. This convenient pass offers bundled admission to many of the top attractions, including the Journey Behind the Falls, the Niagara SkyWheel, and various museums and exhibits. Not only will you save money compared to purchasing individual tickets, but you’ll also enjoy skip-the-line privileges at some attractions, saving you valuable time. Discover all that Niagara Falls Has to Offer with the Niagara Falls Discovery Pass. Get Yours Here
4. Explore Beyond the Falls
While the falls themselves are undoubtedly the main draw, the Niagara region offers a wealth of other attractions and experiences that are well worth exploring. Consider taking a day trip to the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, known for its historic architecture, theater scene, and culinary delights. Or, venture out to the nearby Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, where you can hike scenic trails, go rock climbing, or even try your hand at cave exploration.

Conclusion

Niagara Falls is a natural wonder that continues to captivate and inspire visitors from around the world. With its thundering cascades, breathtaking scenery, and diverse attractions, this iconic destination promises an unforgettable experience for travelers of all ages. As you plan your visit in 2024, be sure to explore the exciting new attractions, immerse yourself in the must-see experiences, and embrace the insider tips to make the most of your time in this remarkable place. Decklist and some screenshots, including the almost perfect Plat 1 - Mythic Run with the last version of the list: 16-2 record, 89% WR
After climbing to mythic with an explorer version of Gruul prowess I joined the wrong queue and actually defeated a UW control timeless list (which speaks bad of pure control in this format lol)... which inspired me to brew a Timeless version of the deck (Work in progress) and it packed quite the punch.
To be fair, it's basically a port of the Modern version, with [[Underworld Breach]] value engine and [[Questing Druid]] the list can withstand lategame with a real shot of winning and the combo of breach and [[Mishra's Bauble]] can be disgusting.
I did try some slight tweaks throughout the run: [[Scale Up]] as a way to with the goldfish war against combo, [[Monstrous Rage]] as a similar version that would allow breaking stalemates... but the black-heavy meta leaned me toward 4x [[Blossoming defense]] and 4x [[Unholy Heat]] maindeck and I haven't looked back since.
The creature package is quite solid: 8 prowess creatures, 4x prowess-like creatures in [[Slickshot Show-Off]] and [[Questing Druid]] and 4x [[Dragon's Rage Channeler]].
-[[Soul-Scar Mage]] and [[Monastery Swiftspear]] are your Bread-and-Butter one-drops, prowess dudes synergistic with the rest of the list. Haste comes in handy as an unexpected blow, and the wither-like effect of SSM allows you to punch through Goyfs, Kavus and Shadows in such powerful ways.
-Slickshot is definitely the most explosive one and the best to take games out of nowhere. There are many situations where Plotting is the right move, especially with a protection spell with it or to force the opponent to not tap-out. If you don't have a protection spell and have spare creatures it's worth casting it upfront though, these deck can win a topdeck war after trading resources.
-Questing Druid is probably the weakest one of the bunch, but its adventure makes up for it. We all know that it's common to cast on your opponent's turn, but many times you do it on your endstep.
-DRC is just that good. Might be the weakest when hitting opponents, but it just generates that much value with surveil. Also, best buddies with Bauble and [[Underworld Breach]] in those crazy turns.
Spells might not need much explanation at this point: Bolt is self-explanatory. Seek the Beast, Blossoming Defense, Bauble, and Breach (lategame MVP) have been discussed too. [[Abundant harvest]] is worth commenting though, allowing you to get extra spell triggers while not running out of gas AND curving out. At worst is a creature that triggered prowess or a land to curve out, at best it adds up ridiculous amount of damage.
Manabase is self-explanatory: Fetchs, shocks, fastlands, and a surveil land that always comes in handy. Previous lists didn't include horizon lands and played 17 total. These two and 18 total help to reduce flood while not running out of gas. Windswept heat might look weird instead of something like Bloodstained mire, but hitting that basic forest is THAT useful in post-board games. I could see cutting one for a Mire or another shockland, but it's going well so far.
Sideboard is quite straightforward: Bloodmoon for cheese in this crazy manabases format, Vortex for Show and Tell (which is definitely on the downswing), Veil for UBx decks but it's hard to fit them in, as most decks include both red or white as removal colors.
[[Minsc and Boo, Timeless Heroes]] is probably the best wincon for this deck "for the grindy matchups" Boo packs quite the punch after trading resources and flinging your huge prowess creatures is also a great way to end the game in a stalemate. I wouldn't fit a 2nd one with such a low curve, but one works if you prioritize Harvest looking for lands. I filled the list with PyP (gotta point out it's good against rakdos burn) and gy hate but those are very fringe and the maindeck is very tight so over-sideboarding can be an easy trap to fall into.
Matchup wise... I feel the deck being off-meta (most red decks assume Rakdos Burn is the only choice) helps a lot, leading opponents to mess up their sideboard plans with stuff like Gravdigger's cage just because they died to a Breach turn. Black-heavy matches can feel like a drag, but when I looked at the data I noticed I was way more biased than I thought: Matches take longer indeed, but overall winrate has been still positive.
Give this thing a shot! I'd say that pitch elementals will hurt post MH3, but all this needs is some sort of [[Lava dart]] to allow for more explosivity. This deck might look as a glass cannon at first glance, but it has way more lategame power than it should.

2024.05.18 22:19 RealitySalty Lost Chess Variant Add-on

Lost Chess Variant Add-on
It has come to my attention that the add-on "Unnecessary Chess" has gone down and its contents are not accessible anymore.
This workshop add-on was one of the best things I've ever downloaded for the game. it added 24 new chess pieces with unique movements and very detailed models plus a deck of cards that concisely explained each's movement.
It would be a shame if it was lost completely, me and my friends used those pieces for lot of our own made up games.
You can not find it anymore through the workshop, but i can still see it in my subscribed items. There is another add-on with the same name that tried to replace it, but it doesn't have the assets and doesn't work.
I really hope someone out there has the assets and is willing to remake the add-on, it was one of the best.
the same creator also made a giant modification of scrabble that went down too and some kind soul remade it in another add-on. Really wish this great work gets the same treatment.
Thanks for reading :D

2024.05.18 22:16 persona1138 Leica M11 Firmware 2.0.2 Issues - Update

Hi again, all!
If you haven’t read my first post (and all of the insightful replies), it’s linked to the top of this thread.
Basically, the M11 has freezing issues under the current 2.0.2 firmware. And can even result in lost pictures or corrupted SD cards.
After trying several things suggested in my previous thread and having several discussions with Leica themselves, I finally got a high-level Leica representative, and I have some answers.
1) Leica acknowledges that the 2.0.2 firmware (and 2.0.1 firmware before it) has the issues I described. Especially when burst shooting photos, but not exclusively.
2) A new firmware that will supposedly address these issues is coming soon. “Within a month.”
3) The top-tier Leica representative said (contrary to some other Leica representatives) that using a UHS-II V60 or V90 speed SD card is highly recommended. (Which is what we were using, so that wasn’t my issue. But just for reference.)
4) This is an odd but big revelation… Contrary to what some people said in the previous thread in advising NOT attaching the SD card to a computer, the Leica representative said that they found the freezing/card corruption issue can be largely avoided - in their experience - by first formatting the card on your computer by using the SD card association’s formatting tool… And THEN inserting the card in your M11 and formatting it again using the camera. Apparently, the SD Association’s tool does a deeper format than the camera, and they said it helps. Here’s a link to the format tool (which is free):
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatte
Long story short, Leica has acknowledged that none of these steps “should” be necessary, but that there is an issue with the current firmware, it will be updated “soon,” and those are the best practices in the meantime.
So, get a fast (V60 or higher) SD card and then format it first with the SD Association’s tool and then a second time with the M11 itself.
Additionally, I suspected - and the Leica representative agreed - that since we had photos on the SD card that were taken with the 1.6.1 firmware, and then I took more photos (when the freezing/corruption happened) with the 2.0.2 firmware, that might have also contributed to the problem. Moral of the story is: If you take photos on the M11 and then update the camera’s firmware, be sure to transfer the photos and format the SD card before you take more photos with the new firmware.
I wanted to give an update since, during my last post, a lot of other M11 users experienced the same problems. Hopefully this helps!
So far, the M11 has worked just fine using these steps. But obviously it’s not a permanent fix… At least until Leica releases the new firmware.
Fingers crossed.

2024.05.18 22:16 random_idiot_27 Best Friend and Transphobia

So my best friend has always called me by my preferred name and used the correct pronouns, as well as correctly assumed all my attraction to men is gay.
However, we recently had an argument (or as he would call it, "friendly conversation/debate") about whether JK Rowling is transphobic or not. He, of course, argued she was not. I couldn't respond most of the time, because I was shocked with every word that came out of his mouth. I was literally shaking and freaking out. During this argument, he said that trans women shouldn't be in women's spaces, that "person who menstruates" was offensive to women, and that trans women are a real threat to the safety of cis women. After he said all that, someone came into the room, and I excused myself to the bathroom. Two hours later, he thought everything was okay and went on to treat me the same as every day.
Other things he said were that [insert transfem creator] isn't a real woman (and misgendered all of them), non-binary people don't exist, and you need surgery and HRT to be trans. He wasn't excited or happy for me when I told him about getting a binder, then trans tape, and later on HRT. He seemed very concerned, and gave me the whole "its irreversible" and "detransitioners" talk. Also, when I said "let's not talk about political issues, it makes me feel like mine and other trans people's rights are a political thing or a debate" he responded with "but they have to be". This happens every time anything trans is brought up.
We've been friends for almost 4 years, and he is an amazing friend if you exclude the transphobia, so I don't know if I can just stop hanging out with him. But I don't know if I can face him after what happened.
