2024.05.21 14:06 bondinspace Wired CarPlay support for T3?

I know that T3 supports 60fps wireless CarPlay. With that said, does it also support wired CarPlay via the top USB data port? I don't mind the extra cable, and in my experience the last few years, I've always preferred wired CarPlay over wireless across various rentals (and my own prior cars) since no one has been able to completely eliminate the input lag, only reduce it.
I looked at the product review of the T3 online, and while the screen looks very nice, it does still seem to have a bit of that same lag. I really don't mind it when stationary, but for whatever reason it really messes with my head when driving.
Alternately, is there any possibility of this being added in a firmware release? If so, that would make it an immediate buy for me based on everything else that I'm seeing.

2024.05.21 13:51 jinkxymonsoon Rentnow Leasing experience

⚠️ Lengthy post incoming ⚠️
Last week I rented a car from rentnow leasing after passing my TP. I don’t see a lot of review/experience for this rental company so I thought I’d share mine here.
I actually first heard about them from carousell and after reading a lot of reviews, I decided to message them on carousell. One of their agent(?) Andy, told me to contact him on WhatsApp.
Andy’s replies were fast even when it’s late at night. Asked him a few things like what are their rates, how much is the deposit.
I was actually supposed to rent a Mazda 3 but since I’m renting for a day, I wanted to collect the car as early as possible. Andy told me Mazda 3 return time is a bit late, so he suggested Honda Fit instead for the same price.
I also told him I prefer not to make a deposit and he said they have cars that don’t require deposit so that’s a plus for me.
Breakdown of the price:
Rental duration: 1 day (24 hr)
Price (no deposit required): $85
CDW (excess $1500): $5
Total: $90
Collection of the car:
One day before the collection date, Andy whatsapped me the time that I can collect the car. I went to their office at 11am and waited for their staff to print the contract(?) for me.
The contract stated that I should take pictures (front, back, corners) of the car before I drive. And things like if I damage the tyres or have to call for tow service are under my own expense. (I’m sure those who rented cars will know these basic things?)
They will give a cashcard with zero value to exit the building. After exiting the building, I had to park the car by the roadside and return the cashcard to them before I leave so the next customer can use it. This is a slight downside for me but I’m just purely lazy lol.
About the car:
On first look, the car was of course not perfect, so I made sure to take close pictures of the areas that were already scratched to make sure I protect myself.
I think they also provide P-Plates if you don’t have one. They asked if I have my own and I told them I did.
The car felt alright, the brakes, headlights, wipers are all in good condition. There’s also a camera for when you reverse.
I could tell they sanitized the car before i collected it as the smell was very strong. My shirt even got the smell LOL. The car smelled nice too, they hung a car freshener on the mirror.
However, since I don’t know much about cars, my dad mentioned the car alignment is off. When the wheels are straight, the steering wheel is not. So that threw me off a bit bc I couldn’t practice my parking well since my parking is already bad. 😭
Returning the car:
Returning the car was also smooth. Andy was very friendly when he came out to collect the car as soon as we arrived (We didn’t meet him when we collected because he wasn’t there). He walked around the car to make sure there weren’t any dents or damage to the car.
We handed him the key and we’re off.
Overall, I would rent from them again and I also recommend to p-platers who are looking to rent a car to practice their driving or parking without having to put a deposit! The car exceeded my expectations as I thought no deposits will get me a car that’s not in a super good condition lol!
Ps: any tips on reverse parking is HIGHLY appreciated! I could not for the love of god park properly even after a good 6 hours of practice. Every time we had to park at a mall or coffee shop, my dad had to take over and park for me 🥲🥲🥲

2024.05.21 13:49 throwawaykarachiite Careem indrive business opportunities

Hi Inspired by the guy who posted about lithium cells to make batteries from china.
A lot of people here want to earn extra income. My friend and I operate a part time business of buying cars and then renting them to drivers to drive on indrive/uber. I work a full time job which takes up 8-10 hours of my day almost 6 days a week so this rental business I barely have any time to give. it’s a fairly simple process - I’ve been doing it for 5+ years alhumdolillah and currently have 8 cars. I’ll give you’ll a breakdown of the process and ROI. Please feel free to ask any questions.
Your rental business begins with 3 people. You must have good reliable relations with each of them.
1) A showroom guy: Someone who helps you scout cars. Can check whether gaari ka meter peeche hua wa hai ya nahi. Tyre ki condition. Engine. Kitne piece touchup waghera. does the dealing on your behalf.
2) A reliable mechanic : someone jo choona na lagaye. don’t be petty with this guy. Let him make some more money but make sure he does it in a legit way aur apko choona nahi lagaye
3) A trustworthy driver : This is the most difficult to find. But trust me once you get one guy, you’ll expand your network. Your second hire is going to be easier than your first hire and so on.
Economics :
Investment - Buy an alto VX. Either new or slightly used. you’d want to be more focussed on the km the car is driven than the year of the car. Meter peeche na hua hu this is your showroom guy’s job. this will cost you between 2.1-2.4m PKR. Manual gari lein. auto ab waara nahi khaati. I bought my first alto at 0.98 million PKR. it’s currently worth 1.6million.
Return:
market rate in karachi is 75-85k per month on alto manual decent condition. However, there is limited supply of drivers willing to work at this price. I opt for a lower price. normally handing out a 2-3 year old car at 65k per month.
Maintenance :
routine maintenance/parts are on the driver (oil, oil filter, air filter)
off routine maintenance is on you. (tyres change, dent paint etc)
Cross verify frequency of oil change through the mechanic. must be done at every 5k km.
ROI : at 65k per month, you pocket 65k x 12 = 780k per annum.
Allow 80k per annum to go into a kitty for major expenses (tyre change, engine change etc)
take 700k per annum on a 2.1m investment = 33% return on capital deployed
What my friend and I did differently was that we didn’t pocket the money earned since day 1. we kept buying more cars as and when we had enough cash.
This entire model works in Pakistan because there is no depreciation on cars in Pakistan. the car we bought for 980k PKR, it’s clocked over 250k KM. we’ve pocketed almost twice the car value but now the car is valued at 1.6m.
Take a lot of care of your drivers. If they work hard and maintain your car, you can expect the car to not die till almost 4-500k KM. Also, if you can, deploy some diversity. Saraiki, pathaan etc. Keep total cost of ownership in consideration. Ramzan mein I know for a fact ke driver ka kharcha nahi nikalta so we reduce the rent by 40-50% for a couple of weeks
happy to answer any questions you guys might have now.
P.S I’m from Karachi.

2024.05.21 13:34 OG_Yaz Feel like I’m taken advantage of by my best friend

First, I’m Muslim. As a Muslim, we are instructed to be kind and generous. So, I am.
I met my best friend in March 2022. It was during the month of Ramadan. So, when Eid rolled around, I got her a nice gift (Amazon Echo Show).
Recently, she’s been asking for a lot. She gets food stamps, I don’t. She has asked me for a lot of my food. I don’t want her to go hungry, so I’d grab something. If I accidentally left ingredients, she’d take them. So, I’d have to replace them.
She’s asked me for four packs of cigarettes this month, which cost $10.89 after tax. She hasn’t paid me back.
Her car is down, her boyfriend has asked for rides to work across town. He did give me $20 for gas, but she asked for it back to get cigarettes and alcohol. Never gave it back.
I moved near her, so she could visit me. She had visited twice since I moved in April 5th. She expects me to walk to her place if she or I want to hang out.
It’s exhausting. She used to reciprocate. Now, I’m expected to do everything. I only make so much money and it’s given at the first of the month.
I feel I’d be a bad friend if I told her I’m not doing all that anymore.

2024.05.21 13:30 ainyy Self-service gas station

We had to refuel in Sorvagur before returning our rental car, but since it was 7am on a Sunday morning, no gas station was open so we had to use the self-service one. Thing is - my card was charged 750dkk (~103€ after conversion), even though we were supposed to pay 71dkk for the actual gas (I have the receipt).
That happened 2 days ago and I haven't received the rest of the money back yet. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the "refund"?

I rent a car when I went to Mallorca (one year ago), and the rental car has issued an invoice for almost 200euros since they received a fine because I circulated in Acire zone after 1 year.
I understand that most likely did not fulfil the law (no idea what's acire zone), but 200 euros for a fine seems to be expensive... any recommendations?

10 Reasons Why You Need a Spare Tire Cover on Your Vehicle? Jeep tire Cover, Ford Bronco tire cover, Hummer tire cover
https://preview.redd.it/zhwomm2per1d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35b65d1224206a68fead0d9f9e41025d68228030
Your spare tire might seem like a forgotten element of your vehicle, tucked away and unseen until the unfortunate moment you get a flat. But that exposed tire on the back is vulnerable to the elements, potential theft, and just looking a little worse for wear. Fortunately, a simple solution exists spare tire covers.
These covers, available in various styles and materials from companies like Boomerang tire covers, offer a surprising number of benefits that go beyond just aesthetics. Let's explore ten compelling reasons you should consider investing in a spare tire cover for your vehicle.
1. Shield Your Spare from the Elements: Sun, Rain, and More Sun exposure is a significant enemy of rubber. The harsh UV rays can break down the tire's compounds, leading to dry rot, cracking, and weakened sidewalls. This can significantly shorten the lifespan of your spare and compromise its safety when you finally need it. A spare tire cover is a protective barrier, shielding your tire from the damaging effects of sunlight, rain, snow, hail, and other environmental elements.
2. Deter Theft Spare tires are surprisingly easy targets for thieves. They're readily accessible, often require only a lug wrench to remove, and can be resold for a decent price. A spare tire cover acts as a deterrent by concealing the tire itself. This makes it less appealing to potential thieves and discourages them from targeting your vehicle. Some spare tire covers for Jeeps, like Jeep Wrangler wheel covers, even come with integrated locking mechanisms or cable locks for an extra layer of security.
3. Express Yourself Spare tire covers are more than just functional; they can be a fun way to express your personality or interests. Companies like Boomerang offer a vast selection of spare tire covers featuring everything from iconic logos and landscapes to humorous slogans and sports team emblems. For Jeep enthusiasts, Jeep Wrangler tire covers with camera hole are available to accommodate the backup camera mounted on some models. You can even find a tire cover for Ford Bronco that integrates with the vehicle's sleek design. This level of customization allows you to personalize your vehicle and make a statement wherever you go.
4. Enhance Your Vehicle's Looks A bare spare tire can detract from your vehicle's overall appearance, especially if you've invested in stylish wheels and a sleek paint job. A well-chosen spare tire cover can add a touch of class or a burst of personality, completing your vehicle's aesthetic. For instance, a Hummer H3 spare tire cover can complement the rugged off-road look of the vehicle, while a vibrant spare tire cover can add a pop of color to a more standard car.
5. Simplify Maintenance Keeping your spare tire clean can be a chore, especially if it's exposed to road grime, dust, and bird droppings. A spare tire cover eliminates this hassle. Most covers are made from easy-to-clean materials that only require a quick wipe down with a damp cloth to restore their shine. This saves you time and effort in maintaining the overall appearance of your vehicle.
6. Peace of Mind on the Road When you encounter a flat tire on the road, the last thing you want to worry about is the condition of your spare. A properly protected spare, shielded from the elements and potential damage, gives you peace of mind knowing it's in top shape and ready to safely get you back on the road.
7. Potential Insurance Benefit While not all insurance companies offer discounts for a spare tire cover, some recognize the added security and protection it provides. It's always worth checking with your insurance provider to see if having a spare tire cover can qualify you for any discounts on your policy.
8. An Investment that Lasts Spare tire covers are made from high-quality materials designed to withstand the elements and everyday wear and tear. With proper care, a good quality spare tire cover from a reputable brand like Boomerang can last for years, making it a worthwhile investment in the long run.
9. Easy Installation and Removal The beauty of spare tire covers is their ease of use. Most covers feature an elastic band or a cinch cord for a snug fit and are simple to install and remove without any special tools. This allows you to easily remove the cover when you need to access the spare tire or change it with a seasonal design.
10. A Great Value Proposition Spare tire covers are a relatively inexpensive way to add protection, functionality, and a touch of personality to your vehicle. A spare tire cover costs significantly lower than replacing a damaged spare tire or repairing vandalism. Considering their numerous benefits, spare tire covers provide excellent value for money.
In conclusion, a spare tire cover is not just a decorative accessory; it's a practical and affordable investment that safeguards your spare tire, enhances the look of your vehicle, and offers peace of mind on the road. With various styles and materials available, you're sure to find a spare tire cover that perfectly complements your vehicle and reflects your personality. So, ditch the exposed spare and embrace the benefits of a well-chosen spare tire cover.

Bit of a long one here but I’ll try to keep it short. A friend who I’ve known for roughly 1.5 years & I recently started “dating”. He used that word, I originally didn’t. But that’s what it was. We would hook up, go out, have dinner with mutual friends, I met some of his, he met my mum etc etc. He constantly talks about our “relationship” (again, his words) & when our friends call me his gf he doesn’t correct them. But here’s the thing, he uses all these buzz words… but we aren’t actually in a relationship (well, all but the title.). We have discussed this at great length (but I don’t want to bring it up again too much & scare him - hence me coming on here) & he tells me he wants that, but he doesn’t want to rush. It’ll be 3 months of dating in June. 6 months if you include the casual hook up at the start of the year. But then feelings were confessed & after a short break we reconnected.
We both officially lost our jobs this month (company we worked for went under in march) & he has a lot to sort right now which he claims is getting in the way of him being ready for a relationship at this time. No job (yet! But interviews), wanting a new house & car but the rental markets crazy & he can’t get a car until he finds a new job.
He’s fairly consistent with communication, I know I’m the only one he’s seeing & we have a great time together, seeing each other at least 1-2 nights a week with regular texts & calls in between.
So what’s the hold up? Is he being genuine & still just recovering from being burned from his last relationship (a detail I know about) plus all these other life obstacles? Or am I stuck in a situationship?
I really need advice. I really have deep feelings now but I need to end it if it’s going nowhere. An outside perspective may help! (My inside circle mostly know him & want me to stick it out)

2024.05.21 12:09 yannybug Uni rent waiver mishandled, confusing and unprofessional sequence of "accepted" and "denied"

Heres the timeline of events which may have contributed to the waiver being denied and or supports my desire to contest the decision. (20F, England, events covering 2020-2024)
Dec 2020 - a rent waiver was submitted on my behalf on the grounds of ill-health. I did not get to see any documentation over the T/Cs and didn't sign anything. I repeatedly asked/offered to supply evidence of ill-health which I was subsequently told was not needed.
Jan 27th 2021 I vacated the room a day before the deadline - unfortunately I forgot to return the keys. HOWEVER, as much as the keys represent having access to the accomodation, these keys no longer worked as the locks had been changed. I was let into the room that night by security who happened to hand me back the redundant pair of keys and thats where my oversight lay. (In 2022 I am made aware that according to their records I vacated the room a week and a half late (when i finally traveled back to hand in the keys) and the waiver was rejected.)
March 2021 I call to ask for an update on the waiver and I am told "it has been waived". I accept this was most likely someone palming me off and mispoke due to not checking the situation but this is ridiculously irresponsible and dictated my next set of responses. A week or two after this phone call, rent arrears emails ceased. This further affirmed I no longer owed any rent.
Sep 2021 Rent arrears emails resume but I ignore, thinking it was a glitch due to the commencement of a new academic year.
After a few months of these emails I ask about them and I am told the rent is owed, no mention of the waiver, rejected or otherwise. I say I was told the rent was waived and I receive an apology and that the issue would be followed up. I hear no more for several months.
Rent arrears emails restart again, some months later. The case is transferred to STA debt collection and I discuss with them the issues I am having. They pause proceedings multiple times and "close" the case on one occasion.
I also reiterate the same information to the university about: - my doubts over the waiver submission due to no evidence being requested, nothing to sign or T&Cs to read. I was not made aware that in passing the deadline for key hand over I would be liable for the whole term of rent not just the days exceeding the deadline.
The uni also claim I was sent an email in 2021 updating me that the waiver was denied. I asked for this to be resent as I do not remember ever receiving such an email and this request was ignored. At least twice my emails were unanswered and many times it took weeks to receive a response.
I communicated these points multiple times to the uni and in the last instance (July 2023) they replied 2 months later with a reduced amount owed, more than halved - but not for any of the reasons I stipulated, for some other reason I cant remember currently (the new amount did not reflect the days of rent over the deadline)
At this point I was completely tired, doubtful of their handling of anything and offended because now they admit that for 2 years they have been requesting over double the amount I owed anyway!
(Not essential to read, just concluding) Its my graduation in 2 months and I do NOT want them to pull me aside on the day because of this - I have no tuition fee debts so I can graduate, I just dont want this to be flagged to the accommodation services that I'll be on site that day. Please, where do I stand here? I realise this has been dragged out so long and since their last email with the reduced amount I have ceased communication, STA call me multiple times a week but no letters or emails. I was admitted to hospital for a month last summer for the same reasons I left the uni halls and I've just had a lot on my plate. The official way is to submit a complaint but since it has been so long I now have to justify why I did not take action sooner i.e. after I received the last email in Sep 2023.

2024.05.21 12:07 Sudden-Beautiful160 Sleep Demon

I went out with an unknown group on Halloween to collect candy. I can't recall the costumes we wore. It was already dark as we went from door to door. Arriving at an apartment with a stairwell illuminated through a window, I saw a black figure at the window. The body seemed human, but it had horns on its head and white, glowing eyes. At that moment, I didn't understand what I had let in – what it meant. But all this was just a dream, a nightmare. In the following days, I didn't think much about this figure, as it seemed to be a one-time occurrence. However, from that dream onwards, I suffered from depression triggered by family, friendship, and school problems.
At that time, I was 21 to 22 years old, studying, and still living with my parents. The problems in my family had worsened due to the death of a family member. My friendships with two of my closest friends also began to crumble, as we were unable to have mature conversations about our problems. The increasing stress at university made it even harder for me to manage everything.
A particularly strange experience happened during dinner with my family at my grandma's place. We were in her old apartment, although she hadn't lived there for 10 years. The place gave me goosebumps – old, gray, and smelling of cigarette smoke. The food tasted only of onions, which spoiled my appetite. While my family chatted and ignored me, I felt as if someone was looking over my shoulder. An uncomfortable feeling of being watched followed me.
I felt a magical pull towards grandma's bedroom. But as I entered, it became dark, and the sounds of dinner ceased. A dark shadow appeared on the wall – with a large hump, horns, and white eyes. Panic gripped me, and I just wanted to flee. My eyes slowly closed and reopened. I was lying in my bed, drenched in sweat, looking around. I couldn't move, and the blanket felt heavy on me.
The depression intensified, and my behavior became increasingly strange. I felt as if someone else had taken over me. Indecision, confusion, and fear accompanied me from then on. The nightmares became more frequent, and I suffered from sleep paralysis. Again and again, I thought I saw someone out of the corner of my eye or saw someone fleeting by. But the worst was the sleep demon, who lurked as a silent observer in my dreams. He blended into the surroundings – sometimes a drawing, sometimes a shadow or an outline. But no matter how he appeared, he took my breath away.
A particularly oppressive experience happened when I was climbing a staircase with my mother. The way seemed endless. The walls were white, and the stairs yellow with black steps. The atmosphere was gray and empty. The higher we climbed, the emptier and grayer it became. Finally, we reached an apartment door, opened by an unknown woman. As we entered, I stood by the window and saw him standing there – with his hump, his horns, and the glowing white eyes. He showed me a suffocating smile with his sharp teeth. Emotionless, I followed the woman into the room she wanted to show us. But the room was charred, and the furniture looked as if it had melted. Panic gripped me, and I felt an indescribable fear.
Darkness surrounded me, with no solid ground and no clear sight. Everything I tried to hold onto turned to smoke and vanished. A deep, dark hole formed in my stomach, swallowing all the good and bright things until only darkness remained.
Did I feel guilty about everything? Was I wrong? Was I just a burden? Was I in everyone's way? I wandered along a beach, the surroundings veiled in darkness. Is this really a beach? I heard the sound of the waves but saw no water. The sand beneath my feet did not give way easily, but it tickled with every step. Without thinking, I followed the endless beach and let myself drift.
Now I am 23 years old. The phase of depression is over, and I have regained my balance by practicing acceptance and taking care of my body, mind, and surroundings. The sleep demon has not appeared in my dreams for six months, and I can now sleep without any issues. Was he real or just a manifestation of my problems or a part of myself? To me, he seemed very real, and even if not, it seems he only embedded himself in me because I had lost my inner balance and could only drive him away by returning to that balance.

2024.05.21 11:40 Hairy_Vermicelli_693 Pizza evening - only few hours to visit in Naples

Hi,
I will be flying to Naples next week and then driving away that evening. Since we won’t have time to visit Naples, we were thinking we could at least grab a pizza, if nothing else. We land around 19:00 and so I will only have a few hours. Was thinking to take the bus to the city and have a pizza and then come back to the airport for our (rental) car. Do you guys think this would work? Any specific locations in the city that would be worth visiting? Thanks in advance, cheers!

Hello.
I would like to buy a Starlink for my house.
Issue is it's a rental and thus I cannot put holes in the walls.
My plan was to place the router outside.
Has anyone does this and how effective is it?

2024.05.21 11:28 brykinis Parka potential ticket question

Hi! Firstly, yes I know this was stupid. My first day I pulled into a parking lot in the Golden Circle, I was going to go check out the Silfra fissure site but as I parked the jet lag set in and I couldn’t drag myself out of the car to go do it. I ended up just staying in the vehicle for a few minutes while trying to find somewhere to camp. I didn’t think to pay the fee as I didn’t get out of the car and was there at max 10 minutes trying to sort myself. I noticed cameras on the way out and I’m worried that there is going to be a parking ticket charge to the rental company. I’m fine to pay it as I realized my fuck up, however I’m wondering if there’s a way to find and pay for the ticket online or in person somewhere before returning the vehicle so I don’t incur extra fees with the rental car service?
Thanks!
