2024.05.21 16:48 Otherwise-Bet-9481 Help with 2005 VZ Executive

Hey everyone, I’m having a few issues with my VZ Executive I purchased from my grandparents. The car was running well but it hadn’t been driven in about 2 years and just sat in a garage, it had an airbag warning but my pop assured me he’d taken it to Holden and they fixed it. So new a battery in it and drove it to my place, everything was fine. I was away for a few months however (and took my keys with me🤦🏻‍♂️) and the battery died again, so I got another battery to put in it. It drove fine the first time and turned it on a few times after just to be sure. About half a week later I decided to try getting into the diagnostic mode by holding the mode and set button as I turned the car on, when I did that I got a power train warning that cancelled the diagnostic mode, so I turned the car on and off a few times and the warning stayed persistent, so next day I tried starting diagnostic mode again to see what codes the power train could be throwing, but this time I had nearly every error pop up, powertrain, SVS, airbag, fuel gauge, alternator, immobiliser, etc. I’ve talked to my pop and he says it’s done it before (throwing up unrelated errors) and Holden fixed the issue but he can’t remember how. I’m planning on taking it to Holden (prepared to pay out my arse for it too) but I was wondering if anyone here would have any idea on what could be wrong with it. I’m wondering if it’s ECU

2024.05.21 16:47 bigHero1006 Case 69; Masters vs Jobs

Hey everyone,
I wanted to get some advice and opinions on my current situation.
Here’s a bit about me: I have a total of 1.8 years of experience in the tech field. Here’s the breakdown: 1.3 years in .NET Core/Angular (current job) 6 months as a web developer (No Code)
I completed my Computer Science degree from a college in a 3-tier city. A 3rd class collage too 😂(yes i wasted collage years doing fun in lockdown😥. but the present is what matter right) Currently, I’m working at a small but established startup in Ahmedabad, Gujarat (probably 1 tier city). I’m 23 years old.
Lately, everyone is trying to talking me into pursuing a master’s degree in CS. So here’s my simple question: Should I go for a master’s degree?
Here’s why I’m considering it:
  1. My current salary is 3.6 LPA, but I could easily get up to 6 LPA if I switch jobs based on my skills.
  2. But a good product/service-based company wont give me 6LPA because of my bit less experience and not so popular current company so would have to settle for less salary.
  3. A friend who completed their master’s got placed with a 24 LPA package (10 LPA fixed + 14 LPA variables, stock options, rental, etc.). I know these are highlighted stories, but still, if there’s a chance, why not?
  4. With the advancement of AI, many jobs will be replaced by highly skilled people. Backend developers like me might have less risk, but still, the job market is changing.
  5. i am young and can take risk and can also afford paying high fees of private collage.
like if i dont do master’s i will have more experiance in backend, I could explore other options like Node.js or Laravel since the concepts are similar. I’ve worked with Node.js, and the logic is pretty much the same.
However, I’ve heard that master’s is just 2 years of reliving your college years again, and I don’t want to waste my time. I don’t want to end up searching for a job after spending 2+ years on a master’s.
From my mentors, colleagues, and friends, I’ve heard that if you do a master’s, do it from NIT, IIT, or a top private college because they offer good placements.
But here’s my “mythology”: I believe experience in the field is more valuable than any degree.
So, what should I do? Continue with my current job and gain more experience, or pursue a master’s degree for higher education?
Looking forward to your thoughts and advice! Thanks!

2024.05.21 16:32 Inevitable-Extent-32 Backtesting Leveraged S&P500 investing in real and simulated markets.

Backtesting Leveraged S&P500 investing in real and simulated markets.
I've recently discovered and taken fascination with daily leveraged ETFs such as SPXL. I've read multiple times that leveraged daily investments are not good for long term due to risk, volatility decay, and high expense ratios. However, based on my backtesting and simulation analysis I want to challenge this assumption.
First image: 50 years of hypothetical leveraged S&P500 ETF investing. Here you can see that 3x leverage produces the highest return over that time period.
Of course different investment periods will provide vastly different results. Here is a list of graphs of 25 year long leveraged investments starting Jan 1st each year since 1960: https://github.com/Justintc217/portfolio/blob/masteLeverage%20Analysis/leverage%20over%2025%20years%20log.pdf
And here is my code that generated these graphs: https://github.com/Justintc217/portfolio/blob/masteLeverage%20Analysis/snp500%20long%20term%20leveraged%20results%20graphs.ipynb
Based on these results, it appears that leveraged investing pays off at the end of 25 years in most cases.
Second image: I created 10,000 virtual markets for 25 year periods. Each virtual market has an average daily gain rate. The average virtual market has an average daily gain of 0.307% which is the same as the S&P500. They also have the same standard deviation as the S&P500. The virtual markets are distributed across percentiles on the x axis and logarithmic returns after 25 years on the y-axis. Refer to the third image for tabular details.
Based on these virtual markets it appears that results are very sensitive to average daily returns. In many cases 3x leverage and even 2x leverage perform quite poorly compared to an unleveraged ETF in markets with lower, but still positive, daily average returns. However, leveraged investments may still be worth it since they have the potential for outsized returns in good markets with potentially <100x returns. Which is just crazy.
Bringing things back to reality looking at SPXL compared to SPY:
https://preview.redd.it/lqyectnbds1d1.png?width=669&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed811900414c754c4dafba8b50993cb8978265f5
Starting from November 2008 we see SPXL gives 43x returns (even while factoring decay and expenses) whereas SPY only gives 5x returns. Of course, the last 15 years has been a fairly great bull market so this may not be a good baseline for future market movements.
All that being said, here is my conclusion: 1. Daily Leveraged ETFs are quite risky 2. 2x leverage is often much more stable and profitable than 3x or 4x leverage even in light bull markets. It's only in strong bull markets where 3x leverage outperforms 2x. I would never recommend 4x leveraged investing. 3. While volatility decay is problematic we also need to recognize the amazing power of compounding returns. If market growth in the long run is fairly positive as it has been in the last 50 years, then the positives of compounding returns can certainly outweigh the cost of volatility decay. 4. YOLO. Ultimately long term leveraged investing is buying a lotto ticket. There is a reasonable chance your investment is wasted. However, if things do go well, you have the potential for an amazing cash out. And odds are much much better than the lottery, on average at least making your investment back.
I'm a 28m and my portfolio is mostly SPY ETF at the moment. I've grown tired of stock picking :P. I'm now considering investing 40% of my current portfolio into SPUU (2x leverage) and 10% into SPXL and holding for 20+ years. What are your thoughts?

2024.05.21 16:27 taco_bell_whopper Obd2 scanner recommendations (2007 bmw m6)

Hello all,
2007 BMW M6 I was wondering what sort of experiences you had with different scanner brands like Autel or Icon or the likes. My reason for purchasing a scanner is that it will pay itself off in just a few uses since dealers charge $100+ for one scan. I would mainly like something that can scan factory codes in bmw's such as their stupid suspention light thats a special code and reset it. I could try using INPA software for a windows xp laptop but its a huge pain in the rear to install My budget is around $500-$700 give or take
Thanks all

2024.05.21 16:21 sheysewani Subscription Billing with Rails, Pay, and Stripe: An Example App

I built a sample Rails+Stripe+Pay app to show how integration works. I extracted the subscription billing code from a app already running in production. You'll find the repo helpful if you're wondering how to integrate Stripe with Rails for subscription billing.
There's code to generate the Stripe Checkout URL, handle Stripe webhook events. The repo also touches on using the models the Pay gem generates and the README has list of files that need to be modified as well as a explanation of the "Stripe Checkout" flow.

2024.05.21 16:08 Visible-Elevator3801 No local or state permitting or codes - Adjuster wants proof of enforcement for payment

Had a tree fall on the house. My state and locality has no jurisdiction, no permitting, no building departments, no nothing. The estimate provided to insurance calls out some IBC and IRC citations and the insurance won’t pay because they are asking for who enforced it and is it enforced. I obviously want my house repaired properly and the contractor will only build according to current code.
Anyone with suggestions on how to approach this? If I can’t back up proper repairs per code dictation, the insurance will be off the hook for a majority of the repairs.

2024.05.21 15:55 ratman145 Need some advice on hosting a linktree type page

Hey, I’m currently working on some of the behind the scenes stuff for my friends band, we’ve made a link tree, but it sucks, I have some experience making GUIs and coding so I want make a page with our own custom art assets, I have absolutely no idea about a lot of webdev stuff, but mainly the hosting, I delved into it a few years ago looking to try to make some money but I backed out almost instantly because it seemed to cost money to get started and I’m broke af haha.
As it’s just a simple page and we don’t make a penny off of the music, so we really don’t want to pay much for hosting or a domain name at least for now.
Do you guys think it might be better to just stick with linktree, or is there a super cheap hosting service that would suit us?

2024.05.21 15:49 lykwydchykyn WTS: Handmade pedals and practice amps, experimental designs.

Hi guys. Making another shot at this. Cut prices on a few things because I'm just running out of room for storing my new builds. Order multiples and I may cut you a deal.
This post is mostly for people interested in buying, but I love a trade! If you're interested in trading see my latest post in /letstradepedals. I post there every other week, usually on Tuesday. I got non-DIY stuff in the trade post, too.
What I got for sale is hand-built stuff that I made, mostly relatively unique or heavily tweaked designs built on vero or point to point. Many are housed in upcycled tins, a few in hammond boxes. I've also got small practice amps built inside whatevers that you can crank up and enjoy at low volumes. They all run on standard 9v pedal power.
PRICES DON'T INCLUDE SHIPPING -- I ship USPS priority using pirateship.com, so expect shipping to be between $5 and $15 depending on how close you are to Tennessee. Would prefer to not deal with international shipping, but if you want it bad enough to pay for it, I'm game.
I accept Paypal or Venmo.
MOBILE USERS: There are 4 columns in the table below: Name, Price, Links, and Notes. If you don't see all 4, scroll over or ask for more info.
Fuzzes
Name Price Links Notes
Bazz Me Fuss You #1 $90 PIC DEMO A bazz-fussified perversion of the Escobedo push-me-pull-you, featuring controls for octave and volume. This is the first unit I've built using my own custom PCB. Housed in a painted 125B with top jacks.
Space Fuzz $80 PIC DEMO This is a Hollis crash sync fuzz that I souped up with an LFO to modulate the filtesync frequency. Really wild flangery/phasey type gated fuzz sound. At the right settings you can get some octave-down effects as well. Housed in a ~3.5 inch square game tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Pretty pleased with this build.
SwirlFuzz $75 PIC DEMO Modulated octave fuzz prototype. It's an octave fuzz, but you can switch on an LFO to modulate the octave amount. Controls for Rate, Depth, Gain, and Volume, plus switches for waveshape and mode (Normal/Octave/Modulated). In a circular tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Big Green Fuzz for Attractive Bass Players $75 PIC Demo Like my bazz-me-fuss-you circuit, but with a big muff tone stack, a clean blend, and optional clippers for more compression. Housed in a big round tin reinforced with recycled plastic and designed specifically for attractive bass players. Unattractive ones may not really gel with this.
Creature from the planet Chyowngg $65 PIC Demo Prototype of a unique fuzz I've been developing that I call the Chyowngg fuzz. It's a 2-stage octaver that gives a bright synthy tone with a distinctive envelope (hence the name). You can toggle each stage from octave to non-octave mode for a variety of interesting timbres. Also has a tone control, but the tone control is before the octave stages so it results in interesting behaviors depending on the switch settings. It's in a tin meant to be painted like an alien, though some say it looks more like a triceratops.
Baller Fuzz $60 PIC DEMO Another Bazz-Me-Fuss-You build with an added BMP-style tone control. In a slightly beaten-up heart-shaped basketball tin. Y'all ready for this?
Wiff Spwinkles on Top $45 PIC Demo This point-to-point fuzz lives in the same neighborhood as the Harmonic Percolator, but has a few differences. I altered the way the gain knob works, and added a switch to toggle bass cut. It's housed in an ice-creamity welly tin.
Dumbo's Bazzrite Fussrite $40 PIC Demo A bazz-fussified mosrite fuzzrite circuit I cobbled together in point-to-point wiring style. Housed in a little Dumbo puzzle tin with GLITTER! Controls are for balance (kind of tone-cum-gain) and volume.
Drives, Distortions, and Boosts
Name Price Links Notes
Bronze Drive $85 PIC Demo This is a point-to-point, transistor based overdrive I designed based loosely on the Davisson Easy Drive. Good for low-gain crunchy tones and plenty of output volume on tap if you want it for a boost. Tone circuit is like a BMP stack but with a mid hump instead of a mid cut. Housed in a painted 125B with top jacks.
Copper ZenerMorph Drive $65 PIC Demo This is an experiment in zener diode clipping. Nice crispy drive that gets beefier as you turn up the gain, lots of good edge-of-breakup tones to be had. Housed in a decorated tin reinforced with some plastic.
GOOST $65 PIC A simple JFET boost vaguely based on the Runoffgroove Fetzer valve. Switch toggles bass cut for a treble-boosting sound. Point-to-point build housed in a small tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
B is for Beast $55 PIC DEMO This fun little drive/boost consists of two cascading MOSFET gain stages with optional clipping in between. It goes from clean and loud to massive wall-of-gain distortion nicely. Controls for gain, clipping, and volume. In a small heart-shaped tin about 4in by 4in.
Shining Hope Drive $40 PIC Demo Differential mirroring drive, gives a kind of overdriven-mixer-channel distortion. Controls for gain, tone, and volume. Housed in a star-shaped Christmas tin.
Green Sparkler Boost $35 PIC Just an Escobedo Duende JFET boost built point-to-point in a sparkly little round tin. Gives a little gain and a bit of warmth to the tone.
Non-Dirt
Name Tier Links Notes
Gift of Chykka Wakka $65 PIC DEMO First build of an all-transistor envelope filter I designed. Built point-to-point style and housed in a little giftbox tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Controls for Q and Sweep, switch toggles envelope smoothing.
Vortex of Funk $65 PIC DEMO Second build of the Chykka-Wakka circuit, this one features attack, Q, and range controls. Built point-to-point and housed in a painted tin.
BZZZ BOOP BEEP $50 PIC DEMO A basic square wave oscillator on a momentary switch. Can go from bzzz to boop to beep with a sweep of the big knob. Also has tone and volume controls, and a 3-way switch for different decay amounts. Use it to simulate a spring door stopper or dying cow. Or bleep your foul-mouthed frontman. Or mess with the sound guy. Or send Morse code to the bar. I dunno. Housed in a painted tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Little Amps
Name Price Links Description
Ample iMank $65 PICS DEMO This is a Runoffgroove Ruby Amplifier built into this old multimedia speaker enclosure designed to look like an old iMac. Glows blue when you turn it on. It runs from a standard 9v pedal power. It's not terribly loud, nor terribly clean, but if you dig the classic mac vibe it might be fun. Controls for gain and volume, and a power switch on the back.
Nosy Amp $75 PICS DEMO Another solid-state amp based on the Ruby amplifier, housed in a repurposed bookshelf speaker. This one actually has pretty decent volume, even on 9V (can run on 12V as well for more), and can stay clean while getting loud enough for a quiet jam with friends.
Fleur-de-Lis Amp $90 PICS DEMO A tiny bookshelf speaker turned into a practice amp. This one features a class D power amp for lovely cleans, and a custom designed discrete preamp that gets punchy & crunchy when cranked. Runs on 9V but pretty loud nonetheless.
That's all for now. I just keep building and building, though, so there'll be more.

2024.05.21 15:41 aaannonnymm I used BBB to complain about PayPal even though I'm from ASIA

I was permanently limited before due to the sale of sexually oriented materials or services on 2022 (I did not do any NSFW arts). I really need money so I was hoping if I could get the account back, I saw some says that you can complain through BBB with VPN, they didn't say it was guaranteed that it will work but I still tried. As for the ZIP Code, I just added another number because only US has the 5 ZIP CODE number.
I made the complaint on April 2024 and on May 17, 2024 the limited was gone. No email was sent yet, until now.
Here was the email I got from PayPal
"I apologize for the frustration and confusion caused by our decision to permanently limit your account. I understand that you only use the account for receiving Non-NSFW Art commissions, which makes this situation even more inconvenient for you. I hope this email will provide you with some clarity regarding the reasoning behind our decision.
I wanted to speak with you directly to talk about your issue, but I couldn’t reach you. I want you to know that I've reviewed your concerns and want to make your experience with us a more positive one.
To prevent fraud and help ensure the safety of the PayPal system, PayPal routinely reviews account activity. On October 25, 2022, we carefully considered several factors that, when viewed together, indicated there was a high level of risk associated with your PayPal account. Specifically, you were accepting payments for sexually oriented materials or services. Such activity is prohibited under the AUP, which provides that "[y]ou may not use the PayPal service for activities that . . . relate to transactions involving . . . certain sexually oriented materials or services.”.
On May 17, 2024, PayPal reviewed your account and determined we were able to mitigate the risk associated with your account. As a result, we removed the limitation, restoring full access to your PayPal account and its balance at that time."

We are a step closer to taxing the super-rich • What once seemed like an impossibility is now being considered by G20 finance ministers
The global corporate tax reform that came into effect this year was something of a miracle. Less than a decade ago, few would have thought it realistic that most countries in the world would ever agree to close loopholes for corporate taxation, institute a global minimum rate, and decide how to apportion the new tax take — set to be more than $200bn a year — among themselves.
Yet here we are. And if one miracle is possible, why not two? That is how we should look at recent stirrings of something similar: a multilateral effort to overhaul the flawed system for taxing super-rich individuals.
In February, the economist Gabriel Zucman — a scourge of wealthy tax optimisers everywhere — presented G20 finance ministers with a proposal for a global billionaire’s tax, at the request of Brazil. Brasília, which currently holds the group’s presidency, is keen to move to the next stage of the global tax agenda, which could be to close the loopholes that allow the world’s richest individuals to pay very little tax.
Zucman proposes an annual levy of 2 per cent of the wealth of the world’s roughly 3,000 dollar billionaires. It is not quite a wealth tax as much as a hybrid between a wealth and income tax, premised on the idea that the ultra-rich find it easy to define their revenues out of any taxable categories (by keeping gains inside holding companies, for example).
The goal is to cut through the thickets of legal structures that let the super-rich minimise taxable income under national codes, by positing that these should not give rise to less income tax than 2 per cent of their net worth. Any income and wealth taxes actually paid would be deducted.
France’s finance minister has endorsed the idea, for the G20 and also at the European level. Ministers from not just Brazil, but South Africa, Spain and Germany have written in favour of it.

2024.05.21 15:10 DurtyDanky Codecademy or Udemy?

I've been codecademy for a total of maybe like a month or two but feel like I make very little progress and the only practice I get is restarting the course over multiple times since I have a free account. I've been meaning to upgrade to a paid subscription just for the practice lessons but it seems pricey and left me looking for other alternatives like udemy. While I hear good things about udemy it seems like I'm paying for one class at a time and while I weighed the pros and cons I still feel like I still wanna give it a go especially now since they're doing a sale right which seems like a steal for the prices of the courses I wanna learn (java, javascript, python, rust, etc.) and I get paid this week so I may be able to make a few purchases for the courses. Should I bite the bullet and stay with codecademy despite the amount of good things I do hear about it being very few or would it be worth it to move over to udemy? Appreciate any kind of soft/harsh criticism that comes from answers, I just want something else to throw in with the youtube channels I'm subscribed to in order to learn more about coding and being a programmer.
Youtube channels I'm subscribed to:

2024.05.21 15:05 SnabDedraterEdave Heads up if you're supporting Pixiv artists on Fantia, Fantia has announced they're suspending Visa/Mastercard payments indefinitely in response to Visa/MC's anti-NSFW crusading. You can bypass this by paying with ToraCoins (more in description below)

(Mods feel free to remove if you feel this isn't relevant to Pixiv)
Unless you've been living in a cave, Visa/MC has lately been extremely aggressive in banning NSFW vendors from using Visa/MC as a payment method.
Gumroad has already bent the knee, and DLSite has decided to just suspend payments from Visa/MC rather than give in to their demands to remove "undesirable products".
Now its Fantia's turn to announce today that they're also suspending Visa/MC as a payment method indefinitely.
They still accept American Express, Diners and JCB cards for now.
Another way to get around this is you could pay using ToraCoins, which can be bought from Tokyo Otaku Mode(TOM), there you can purchase ToraCoins with PayPal or Visa/MC just fine.
After purchasing, you'll receive an email with a 16-digit serial code, which you use to manually input in your Fantia account's ToraCoin section.
You don't need to remove your Visa/MC card just yet, just enable ToraCoin in your Payment Method section, and Fantia will automatically switch to charging from your ToraCoin balance, as long as there's enough points inside.
I just purchased 3000pts from TOM and used it to charge up my ToraCoin points.

Guys please help
I am a new player of the game and just downloaded it a few days ago. The game required something called an activation code which i do not have. I played in Demo mode for 3 days and today i can no longer do that.
How can i play the game without using since i am a child and cannot pay for it?
Or does anyone have an unused activation code? If yes please share
