Glass Animals themed menu

2024.05.21 06:22 ACleverDoggo Glass Animals themed menu

I'm going to the Raleigh, NC show in August and the venue allows/encourages tailgating in the parking lot before the show, so I'm trying to come up with a themed menu of snacks and treats for our group and whoever else. So far I've got:
• tangerines • pineapple • "gooey" homemade peanut butter & jelly/jam and peanut butter & banana sandwich pockets (like Uncrustables) • mini jars of vanilla pudding "mayonnaise" • capri sun • dunkaroos (probably homemade?) • nostalgic snacks like fruit roll-ups, little debbie/hostess, small bags of chips, cosmic brownies (in honor of the new album, of course) • gummi bears • crockpot pulled pork barbecue (eastern Carolina style) and Dr. Pepper barbecue sauce for "pork soda" sliders
What else can y'all think of? I'm trying to stick to things I can make in advance and just set up, nothing to prep on-site. I was asking about this on Discord, and it was pointed out that I'm kinda lacking in savory options, so those would be especially appreciated. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: If you're going to the Raleigh show, feel free to pop by and grab a snack and a silly little glow in the dark kandi bracelet, I'm making a bunch of them to share. 🍍

2024.05.18 09:31 starshiptical1 Food anxiety

I have bad anxiety around food. In particular and specifically food I’ve cooked.
I put a pork butt in the crockpot 8 hours ago and I know it is done but my anxiety is telling me to throw it away. I’ve already ate some of it in a sandwich. I do not feel bad. Im anxious though about my other family members eating it.
Im like this with chicken as well.
Anybody have food anxiety like this?

2024.05.13 19:34 icbhisaa My mother's day weekend sucked

I decided not to post this on a subreddit because people's feeds are full of this crap.
Saturday my husband woke up early he was going across the state line (like 45mins away) with his friends to go shooting. Tells me to expect a delivery that's perishable and skiddadles.
He had harassed me for the last couple weeks on what I wanted with a final "wtf do you want for mothersday??" Text. I finally gave him a response. Flowers, meat pies, curry.
The delivery was a plant. I didn't want a plant. I didn't want 1 because I don't have any good spots in the home to put them, I don't keep up with watering and they die. Then he makes comments about how I killed them and makes a running joke about me always killing them. I wanted a bouquet of flowers.
The second part of the delivery was chocolate covered strawberries. I had stopped asking for them in the past because he always gets them shipped instead of picking them up local and they are too perishable for that combined with FedEx love of leaving all my packages in direct sunlight. So they are a wet mush mess. This time wasn't so bad but they were still over ripe and not what I wanted. The meat pies I asked for can also be ordered from a less local bakery and shipped but are much hardier. He never looked into it or asked about how I thought he would get them(assumed i meant for then to be picked up). For the cost of the strawberries I could have gotten a dozen meat pies.
"I guess this means I still need to get curry after work on monday". My favorite curry place is 5 mins from his work. 1hr from the house. There's a closer resturant about 45mins away. I'm not sure I'm actually going to get any.
So at 11am Saturday he calls to make sure I got the packages. I did. I said thank you(something he denies but maybe I didn't sound as appreciative as he wanted). I decide to do something for me and drag the kids to get my haircut for the first time in 5 years.
He calls at 7:30 the only thing on his mind is "I'm heading home what's for dinner". He was gone for 12 hours He comes home and goes to sleep I make dinner. Have a kid wake him up. I ask what his plans are for mothers day. He said hang here. Any plans for dinner?. Nope. Great.
He tells the girls mommy is being rude to him and mean to him. They tell me I shouldn't be mean to him. I tell them he shouldn't have said that to them and that it's between me and daddy and I have my reasons.
I wake up around 6:30 to put pork in the crockpot for dinner so atleast that will be done, then go lay back down.
I get up at 9 to go to the grocery store for a few things(walmart has a ton of pretty bouquets of flowers, i dont buy any), clean the house, get the kids up and fed. He wakes up at 1pm. The eldest gives me her mothersday school work and we read it together. The youngest is sad that she didn't have anything to give me.
To his credit he is trying to be in a good mood around me. Asks if I want breakfast. No I already ate. Cool. He cooks breakfast and cleans up after himself. I empty the dishwasher and he comes to help. He brings the laundry to the bedroom where me and youngest fold. I load the dishwasher alone.
I would like to point at no point in the past 18 hours has he mentioned my haircut. I cut my hair from mid back to above my shoulders. It is 100% noticeable. There are only 2 interpretations of this from him. Somehow he has missed this or otherwise thought he said something but he didnt, or he doesn't like it and instead of just lieing and saying something nice he's choosing to ignore it. He did this with my last very similar haircut 5 years ago. Said nothing and when I called him out on not saying anything he said it was too bouncy. He didn't like it. I'm assuming that since it's such a dramatic difference it's the second one and he can't even be nice to me for 5 seconds and tell a white lie.
He's still trying to be nice to me(not nice enough to give me a compliment though) and I'm shutting him down(not with words or yelling or anything like that, I'm done) and going elsewhere in the house. I take a nap in the kids bed as he was watching tiktoks loudly in ours. I get up and prep the dinner and make sides and serve everyone. The rest of the evening is me sitting down in various places as he continuously trys to sit as close as possible. He doesn't ask what's wrong. He doesn't try apologizing for anything. Still no comment on my hair.
I put the kids to bed.
This morning he wakes up for work and he's in a bad mood "because you've been a bitch to me all weekend". Great. At least his nice to me act is over.
Edit: he brought home curry for dinner. Also "did you cut your hair?" 2 days yall. 2 days to notice my haircut.

2024.05.13 14:01 bluejaybiggin Where should I learn to cook from scratch?

I’m looking in to cooking from scratch. However, the most troublesome part for me is compiling the proper ingredients to enjoy a variety of meals. Advice, guides or books would be awesome.
Standard midwestern american. Omnivore diet. Will eat anything (not a huge fan of potatoes). Work essentially a 2on 2off 12hr schedule so I love leftovers. I also do like quick good meals and long set it and forget it meals. If offering guides or books the following is TLDR
Equipment: Crockpot owned. Dutch oven. Sous vide. Cast skillets. Electric range. Ninja air fryer. Microwave. Food processor. Vacuum Sealer. Pasta maker.
Freezer: My freezer stays stocked with chicken, prime steak (typically ribeye, sometimes sirloin), ground beef and pork chops. I also buy fish.
Fridge: Milk, eggs, stick butter, block of cheese (cheadar typically).
Pantry: Pasta (spaghetti, penne, elbow), rice, canned green beans, canned baked beans, canned tuna, canned chicken.
Other: Cooking oil, various spices (thyme, onion powder, garlic powder, meat seasoning, s&p, lawrys.
If you read that to give advice, thank you. Anything from meal ideas, menu ideas, things I need to add as essentials is appreciated.

🤔 Final Thoughts 🤔
Kylea showed her narcissistic greed posting triggering content all week without disclaimers or warnings in clear violation of Meta policy on explicit content and tragedy & conflict. If that is not enough to demonetize and deplatform her, her obvious signs of disordered eating should. Her messaging is dangerous, potentially deadly, and I, for one, ask our friends at Meta to review her content and take action.

2024.05.04 20:20 nuggetsofchicken The Soft Services Buffing Bar is incredible

I consider myself somewhat of a body scrub connoisseur. I've probably tried a dozen different forms of physically exfoliating your body at this point (I'm going through laser hair removal so I can't use chemical exfoliants for the time being). Generally I just go back to Tree Hut because of the density of sugar particles, the fun scents, and the cost per ounce. I don't have KP or any other specific conditions on my body other than a desire to be as smooth as possible.
I picked up the Soft Services Buffing Bar on a whim. It's $28 for two 3.75oz bars. The reviews I saw were comparing it to sandpaper and I rolled my eyes at them, doubtful that particles suspended in a bar of soap could be all that rough.
Anyway upon first use this shit absolutely shredded my skin. I felt like I was dragging shards of glass over my flesh. You know how hamsters clean themselves by swirling around in sand? I felt like that was happening to me except instead of sand it was shrapnel from a wooden crate.
I loved every second of it.
I usually go pretty hard with scrubs and do circular motions and all that jazz, but with this bar I felt like one pass over was plenty to get the desired effect and if I went back over a few times I might start bleeding or some shit. It was great.
There's no added fragrance but there's a little bit of the bar soap smell if you really sniff it. It comes off once you wash off the soap residue. I did not notice any significant lather as much as the bar just getting wet and a bit more slippy. Even though you could consider the base to technically be a soap substance, I would not rely on it to get you clean. It's really more a vehicle for the particles. Like 20% soap and 80% ball bearings. And 100% reason to remember the name.
Only drawback is I just think using bar soap is such an additional hassle, what with waiting for it to dry before putting it away, or trying to find a way to store it without it getting dissolved by the shower.
I'm not sure how long two bars will last me, but given that I was basically just doing a once over with it and I only exfoliate once a week, I have a feeling it will take me a long time to get through the both.
Anyway 10/10 I am so excited to use it again and shred my flesh like it's pulled pork coming fresh out of the crockpot before the Ladies Luncheon at church.

Easy Crockpot Pulled Pork BBQ With Coleslaw
Easy Crockpot Pulled Pork BBQ With Coleslaw Pulled pork bbq: another awesome pork burger treat! (Also known as BBQ) I think there is a little debate on this, but in my book, BBQ refers to Pulled Pork with BBQ sauce on it. I know you can barbecue just about any meat, but I call them barbecued chicken, barbecued ribs, etc. BBQ is pulled pork with sauce, so from here on out. You will know what I mean. I love to eat slow-cooked pulled pork BBQ from the grill or smoker, but sometimes I just don’t want to put all the time and effort into making it that… Recipe in the first comment

2024.04.28 23:12 Careless-Resource-72 Simple smoked pulled pork

Simple smoked pulled pork
Trimmed off fat cap and applied rub Friday evening letting it sit in the fridge overnight. Smoke at 225 for 7 hours (one hour per pound). Internal temp was 167. Set in aluminum pan, cover with foil and let cool for a couple of hours then refrigerate overnight. Add 2 sliced onions and finish in crockpot at high for 5 hours. Final temperature was 207. I added 1 cup of hot water 3 hours into the cook to replace moisture that boiled off.
Incredible bark, great smoky flavor and easily pulled apart with a couple of forks. I took the liquid out of the crockpot and tried to separate the fat but there was only about two tablespoons worth. The rest of the liquid was poured back onto the pulled pork.
While I was smoking for 7 hours I figured I’d clear the freezer so I made a rack of ribs and a tray of Malcolm Reed’s Pork Belly Burnt Ends.
Pork shoulder really is tolerant and forgiving. I probably could have done a straight smoke in about 10-12 hours but I wanted to try this technique and it was also successful.

2024.04.26 21:16 Rasilbathburn Adjusting pressure cooker recipes for crockpots?

I’m excited to try Kenji’s green chili pork recipe, but (alas) I don’t have a pressure cooker. More of a crockpot gal. Does anyone have any advice on adjustments to make when using a crockpot instead? I was thinking possibly the food might retain more liquid in the crockpot, so I might need to add a step to thicken it. Any advice helps.

2024.04.22 01:07 dixcgirl10 Breaking Down Bates

  1. Carlin and Evan spent the week avoiding Katie and Travis by featuring Evan breaking a sweat for the first time in his life while digging up a shrub in the front yard. It didn’t last long though… he happily filmed the hard working guys at Lowe’s as they loaded $2,000 worth of mulch into his Jeep. They wrapped up the week with a trip to the farm so they could exploit both the kids AND her aging grandparents at the same time.
  2. Katie and Travis headed to Asheville to visit his parents who wrote a check for him to play around in a music studio for a few hours. Later, they told yet another story about why they left NJ. This version of the story has him heading out on a tour with some SingeSongwriter guy all Summer. Supposedly they have known about the tour since October… which makes the second pregnancy suddenly make a ton of sense. How many meet and greets will Katie be able to take before she swipes up Haley and heads out on that tour bus life?
  3. Josie bought her girls a blow up pool so she could film them in their bathing suits all day. She also gave us a quick view of her cooking as she threw a roast in the crockpot with some canned and packaged items and then ran back to her mirror so she could keep slinging links for makeup and hair products. She wrapped up the week by posting a picture of baby Miles drowning in beige.
  4. Down in Orlando, Alyssa continued to churn out riveting content. She featured things like a picture of bubbles with a caption that said “bubbles” or a kid on a bike and a caption that says “bike”. Gee, thanks Captain Obvious. Maci told us all that Allie was her best friend and does her hair for her. After 47 pictures of her coffee, she had the girls line up and punch air in a supposed karate demonstration. She shut down the demo when the girls started saying that they really wanted to take ballet and gymnastics. As punishment, she filtered their noses off on the weekly Costco trip.
  5. Whitney has the world’s longest period and is still selling cramp patches. She also hung out at her house with Carlin for some girl time that of course included Evan. Zach finally showed up to feed them all. In the Bates kitchen this week they added Mayo to boiled chicken and tried to pass it off as chicken salad. Having Kelly Jo in the kitchen did make Zach less robotic but it probably didn’t help his food… or the views.
  6. Lawson and Tiffany have videos from a blizzard, yall. It’s Spring everywhere in the world except on Law Bates YouTube. He runs around calling people “idiots” and “dummies” for doing the exact thing he is doing(driving in a blizzard). Tiffy pushes food around on a plate and cries when she hears the heartbeat of her baby. In present day they hung out at the farm with the Stew Crew. They all went down for a “special project for Lawson”. What do we think… gender reveal? Music video?
  7. Lydia and Trace decided to “get real” about her postpartum journey… Trace seemed bored and did a lot of mouth breathing while Lydia explained how much they hate the IG account Without A Crystal Ball. Seems odd to bring up her deportation issue now when last week she said she wouldn’t be talking about it. But I guess you gotta do what you gotta do to get those views. Baby Ryker officially has a military buzz cut and I fully expect him to be enrolled at Alert Academy by next August.
  8. Brandon and Michael made puffy paint from shaving cream and glue that they are obviously sniffing if they think this is a viable income avenue.
  9. When’s the last time anyone has laid eyes on Erin? We heard from her this week as she gushed over Chad Paine. It’s a miracle she can find enough adjectives to fill more than one post for this goober with no job, no education and dwindling hope. We learned they will be heading to the farm with Trace and Lydia next week so maybe Mama Jane can jerk a knot in Chad.
  10. This and that:Gil Bates was missing in action again this week. Maybe he was down in Big Sandy at cult camp. Carlin conveniently left Gil’s name out when she listed all the folks coming to Laylas recital. Has Tori had her baby? Zach is cooking REAL bacon these days… no more turkey bacon and I have to wonder if that has anything to do with them visiting other churches? The cult doesn’t eat pork products. Maybe he just found out it’s GOOD!
Have a great week friends, and may you avoid any and all tract ministries!

2024.04.22 01:06 dixcgirl10 Breaking Down Bates

2024.04.17 20:49 Sstone10129 Started pork butt in the crockpot

I had an 8 lb pork butt brined and ready to go this morning at 4 am. It was raining, so I put it in the crockpot until 6:30 am until the rain had passed. Then I threw it on the smoker at 200 for 4 more hours and now it’s smoking at 220 on a pit boss until 4 pm. Ya’ll think I’ll have a good dinner?

2024.04.17 15:50 ButwhyOH Carnitas seasoned boneless pork shoulder roast

Hi everyone! I got a Carnitas seasoned boneless pork shoulder roast and honestly have no idea how to cook it! In the past, I have put it in a crockpot alone and honestly it’s come out to be the most dry meat ever lol! I want it to come out juicy and with lots of flavor so what do I do and how long do I cook it? I don’t want my husband to drink a gallon of water to wash it down this time haha poor guy. Thanks!!
