Mainly play Counter-Strike but gaming is a huge part of my life and I play many different games from Minecraft, Ark, and Don't Starve to WOW, Red Dead Online, BDO, ESO, FO76, Rift, and OSRS, from borderlands, destiny, and the division to the wolf among us, town of Salem and fortnite. I'm also one of those people jumping from new game to new game like lethal company, content warning, pal world and helldivers. Always down to try a new game. Also down to play some old games on dolphin emulator like gauntlet dark legacy or Mario party. I'm also a huge Jet Set Radio, Oddworld, and Borderlands fan Just looking for people who want to chill and play games. There's also a lot of different things I want to do like play the borderlands games in order or play through ark as the story intended or so many different BG3 playthroughs or doing a co-op subnautica playthrough, also want people for grounded or black ops 3 zombies I want to do all the Easter eggs (the only one I haven't completed is revelations)

Hellooo! I'm not from Latvia and I don't speak Latvian, apart from the odd sveiki, lūdzu, nākamā pietura, but I lived there for about half a year a few years ago. I've come across a word in a poetry anthology that I cannot find much for online. I found the word in Latvian translations of Russian poems which have also been translated into English. "Atdzejojis" and "atdzejojusi" (I'm assuming the difference is to do with the gender of the person whose name follows it?) My question is what does this word mean? I have seen translations of it as "reproduced by"? If it means "translated by", how is it different from tulkot? Is it specific to poetry?
For a bit more context, I study translation and I'm looking at the translation of poetry into English, but because the anthology is trilingual, I thought I'd take a look at the Latvian too!

So please welcome u/RuinEleint who will be sharing their thoughts on "The Yuletide Cyberpunk Yarn, or Christmas_Eve-117.DIR" by Victor Pelevin!
“Deep Eddy” by Bruce Sterling (published 1993; also available in his collection Ascendancies: The Best of Bruce Sterling)
Deep Eddy is acting as a data courier to the Cultural Critic in Düsseldorf, right as the city goes through a Wende (a sort of anarchist “Purge”).

• Farragut’s thoughts: We’ve read Sterling before in Science Fiction. Eddy is a misguided libertarian creep who won’t stop hitting on his German bodyguard and is too dumb to understand the philosophical points that the Cultural Critic is making (for that matter, I’m too dumb to understand, too). He survives his time in Germany, but has learned nothing of value for his punk attitude. What’s the point of rebelling if you don’t understand why? The naivete and creepiness were a little too much for me.
  
• fanny’s thoughts: This did not work for me. Eddy is creepy and annoying. He keeps hitting on the bodyguard and she makes it VERY clear she is only there in a professional context. Eddy also seems to generally not have any clue what he is doing. He is libertarian and against something but no one seems to know what. He doesn't even seem to know what he delivered to the Cultural Critic.
  

“The Yuletide Cyberpunk Yarn, or Christmas_Eve-117.DIR” by Victor Pelevin (1996, translated from Russian by Alex Shvartsman)
A corrupt mayor’s computer is infected by a virus that causes chaos in Russia.

• Special Guest Ruin: This was a fascinating story to read. The way the narrative segued from a discussion on poetry to a darkly comedic look at a Russian city was remarkable. The author seems to like to start or lead with a theme or themes which seem to be only tangentially related to each other such as for example the name of the computer virus, or Gerasimov and his dog. But both elements circle back into the story and are crucial to its structure. As for the content of the story itself, I amused myself by imagining the events as being a movie that blended the stylistic elements of Tarantino and Wes Anderson. So we have brutal, bloody violence in increasingly absurd settings and the way it is all described makes it easy to imagine it all taking place amidst the highly stylized sets and characters we would expect in a Wes Anderson movie. Overall, I really enjoyed this story.
  
• Farragut: We’ve read Pelevin before in Modern Fantasy. First of all, this is a fantastic title for a story, period. Second of all, I just enjoyed Pelevin’s style here (via Shvartsman’s translation), with an omniscient narrator telling us about a completely ridiculous situation. It gets a little cagey with the identity of the perpetrator and the ending, but I’m very curious as to how darkly I should read it (now that I think about it, it’s directly connected to the original, so I should read it very darkly indeed). Shvartsman’s occasional footnotes were very helpful, however, especially with the context surrounding Gerasim(ov) and Mumu.
  
• fanny: Ruin's review is so good, I am not sure what to add. The style of this story fit the elements so well. It starts with a poem whose themes carry through the story. The footnotes were a really great addition and helped contextualize. The narrator keeps upping the ridiculousness until we get to the end and everything gets wrapped up.
  

“Wonderama” by Bef (1998, translated from Spanish by the author)
Lalo (or is it Eduardo?) wakes up every day in the most awesome life in 1974, but it’s revealed to be a lie and ends tragically.

• Farragut: Bef is a Mexican SF writer, a crime writer, and a graphic novelist, and honestly his whole bibliography sounds cool as heck. Told in a series of diary entries with some small interruptions, we follow a kid whose life is like a Mexican kid’s sugar-fueled dream. The reason for its inclusion in this thematic section of the anthology becomes clear however, and I yelled, “Noooo!” at the ending. Sigh. It’s very good!
  
• fanny: I am a sucker for diary entry style stories and this was no exception. Lalo’s life seems almost perfect, but it feels so off. The story feels progressively more off until we start to question everything. Also, yelled “Nooo!” at the ending. Very good. Absolutely loved.
  

“comp.basilisk FAQ” by David Langford (1999) (link to story)
A FAQ-style story that clearly describes a bizarre future where images on the web and TV are banned due to the risk of death.

• Farragut: Langford is famous for having the most Hugo wins (29), mostly for the Fan Writer category, but also Short Story (not this one) and Best Related Work (not this one either). This is a delightful story that made me think of it as a precursor to qntm’s later story “Lena” from Week 5 (though obviously only in general form). Apparently I love the faux-nonfiction style where some of the horror and plot is between the lines. The final FAQ about Microsoft was darkly funny.
  
• fanny: This was fun and very short. The FAQs related to basilisk and writing were great. It goes between funny, dark humor, and just dark. I liked the commentary on technology and software. I also really appreciate the standard response answers explaining they should post someone else. This is something I deal with often and this was great.
  

“Spider's Nest” by Myra Çakan (2004, translated from German by Jim Young; also available in the anthology The Apex Book of World SF 3 edited by Lavie Tidhar)
Spider, uh, does something? Is looking for drugs, maybe? But something else happens instead?

• Farragut: Çakan is a German writer from Hamburg, and after reading this story, I’d say Shurin made hamburger out of me, too. The main thing I got out of this story was that Spider really wanted something, maybe. I thought it was drugs, but he got angry at his dealer and then got super weird with his friend’s girlfriend? And then there was a Silver Spider, who wasn’t him, but maybe he plugged himself in to replace her? What is happening?
  
• fanny: Spider definitely wanted drugs from his dealer, Ant. I think. Ant got annoyed at something then Spider got into a voyeur situation (maybe). There is a Silver Spider in his dreams that makes him feel better. I couldn't tell if this was dream or drug induced or technology induced. The end is super weird and makes even less sense than the story. Spider might have done a murder on himself? I have been confused before in this anthology, but not to this level.

This has got to be the weirdest question I've asked online, but I've been working my way through some Easter eggs, only to realise one of them is entirely solid chocolate, I can't bite into it, a knife will barely cut it, what do I do?

Is there a way to cancel someone exiling?
Is there a way to mess up someone starting the Easter egg process? I play with a group online and sometimes someone will start it that joins from online when we are trying to go to high rounds. Is there a way to delay it or mess it up to cancel the process of it starting?

Some Context: This is my favourite season so far even though we still have to wait on Part 2, (which I think already says a lot). I immensely enjoyed the escapism. Friends to lovers trope I think is the best romance situation ever. I was initially so beyond joyful, ecstatic and happy for Polin, but then after it finished and I stopped playing the carriage scene on repeat after the 100th time, I started to notice that it was almost depressing me and conjuring up these negative emotions in regards to my own life and everything that’s going on it (specifically the lack of romance and state of the world)
I am a serial romantic. This is the only season that’s had this much of a chokehold on me; (to the point where I go back and watch things, and frantically search Twitter for content) — Colin has always been my favourite (values, mannerisms, super caring, something I honestly look for in soulmate; more than say the qualities of Anthony and co.) – and POLIN has always been my favourite side story. Seeing it come to full fruition, with all the little details, all the parallels, gestures, easter eggs, is just everything. It’s a perfectly imperfect season.
The ‘first kiss’ scene affected me greatly because I had never resonated with someone so much in that moment. Pen essentially begging him to kiss her, because she could die tomorrow, is what I’ve thought to myself for myself on a regular basis. The desperation of wanting to at least experience it at least once..
Then the carriage. With Colin not being able to go another second without telling her how he felt, preferring sleep because at least that’s where he could be with her; the overall desire to be with her, to show her she’s worthy of all the good things, the reciprocated feelings, the reassurance, the chemistry etc. I can honestly & confidently say it’s what most of us women dream of.
As I said, it’s super beautiful, super joyful, super “hell yeah, finally!!” ..But after a while, I started to just feel sad for myself, because god…
does love like this actually exist (for me)? (if it doesn’t I don’t really want it)… Will I ever find it? Will I always be the unloved, touch starved maid in this scenario? Is there real-life possibilities in finding a Colin Bridgerton? Or am I forced by society to jump on tinder and judge someone based on whether they’re holding up a fish in their PFP or not? (Semi-joke)
Just wondering if it’s brought up some sad, lonely, ‘I am so single and touch starved’ feelings for anybody else? If it matters, I turn 30 this year, so maybe that adds to it somehow lol
I can’t find much information online to relate to and I’ve just been spiraling because I feel like I should have the opposite reaction to what I’m having 😅

There was a post yesterday that asked about the worst part of RD2, and all the responses were legitimate annoying problems with the game (Horse AI, bland missions, weird systems, gatekeeping). The more I think about why I stopped playing, the more I believe it wasn’t what RD2 is, but what it isnt’t.
CUT CONTENT: There’s some incredible side-content, Easter Eggs, and realism. It has some of the most beautiful locations of any game, even six years later. But after you’ve seen the whole map, hunted your heart out, and played dress-up, RD2 can feel very empty; personally I’ve never played a game where you can feel the cut content more, not just in the unsolvable mysteries, but in underdeveloped places like Guarma. The fact that so much is polished and overfinished makes the lack of playable content stand out.
For a huge game that was delayed three times, why is that?
DEVELOPMENT: The fact that this game was crunched so heavily and so publically bums me out even now—especially when the work was so clearly focused on animations at a camp we avoid and microdetails like your horse’s “reactions” to weather. Gameplay and fun took a backseat in development; to me, there’s no excuse for that in a game that was crunched so hard for so long. Even if you love the cowboy gameplay (and I do!), the visual setting, micro- and macro-, outshines the gameplay and narrative so hard it almost makes them look bad by comparison.
Either I’m old, or this is a common trend in my favorite studios and franchises—I feel like other AAA narrative games have decided to polish visuals, small details, and maybe One Cool System at the cost of overall story and complete, full storylines—looking at you, Microsoft.
I could mention Online support and (no) DLC, but that’s technically a different “game” altogether. I still love playing RD2, but the worst problems, IMO, are what it doesn’t have and how it got there.
TL;DR: cut/unfinished content, flawed development and lack of dev support hurt RD2 more than anything in the game itself.

Lovely refers primarily to my physical characteristics, but also a bit to my kind and caring nature.
Literal is the way I both communicate and interpret communication. Subtext is often lost on me.
Loquacious means that it’s very hard to shut me up once I get going on the right subject with the right audience.
Literarily Inclined is a very fancy way of saying I read. A lot. No, I mean, a lot.
Lady just refers to my gender (AFAB/cisgender).
Looking For is simply, you know, seeking. Searching for. Trying to find.
Love, the epitome of what I want.
Now, beyond the allure of my alliteration...
I’m 25 years old and I live in the Midwestern area of the USA. I don’t particularly care where you live, as I’m only open to an online relationship until 2025 or so (because of both personal preference and life circumstances).
The written word is my biggest hobby, both reading and writing it. Despite my often overly logical brain, I usually prefer fiction over non-fiction, and fantasy in particular — it’s an escape of sorts that feels immersive and, well, magical (for lack of a better term).
I haven’t yet completed my undergraduate degree, but I’m working on it. That’s what I get for taking time off and switching majors twice, I suppose. I’d like to earn my Master’s degree someday, but I’m in no real rush for that.
I look like some sort of MPDG/ingenue crossover — I have a quirky, wide-eyed, unconventional prettiness.
I have some pets, and quite honestly, those are children enough for me. I don’t possess a mothering instinct for tiny humans.
The man I’m looking for is, in an ideal nutshell:

• 5-15 years my senior
• Looking for someone to commit to
• Athletic/attractive (hey, we all want a "spark")
• Compassionate towards others
• Not conservative or a cigarette smoker

I’d prefer someone who also shares my love of the written word and is familiar with neurodivergence, but those aren’t strictly necessary.

There is significant repetition of these numbers popping up in both Taylor and Matty's public works so I thought I would bring it up and see what you all think and if you have noticed other instances that I'm missing. Sorry in advanced for this being long, but there is a lot.
Let's start with the most well-known one: 13

• I think that even casual fans know that Taylor considers 13 her lucky number. Her birthday is 12/13/1989. She's had some significant milestones in her career surrounding the number 13 and she famously wrote 13 in marker on her hand during the Fearless era. She continues to reference this number in track listings - even TTPD is 31 tracks, so 13 transposed.
• the poem Stevie Nicks wrote for TTPD has two dates written on it: Aug 13, 2023 and Sept 13th 8:05pm. Obviously the 13th in both dates is interesting but if you start adding things up you will see these dates are very significant. The 8:05 will give you 8+5=13. There is more to these dates as well.
• In numerology, we often add numbers together to get a single digit. 1+3 = 4.

8's - The public announcement of Taylor and Matty's relationship came on 5/3/2023. 5+3 = 8...8 is the infinity symbol. - In the Eras Tour, the stage roomba makes an infinity sign during Down Bad. - In numerology, 8 also rules the planet Saturn. There is other symbolism associated with this number but this post is already super long.
4's & 2's - The number 4 has been showing up a lot recently. Matty flashed the number 4 to the camera during a set while they were dating (couldn't find the video but if someone finds it, I will edit to add it). - Taylor has famously been flashing peace signs and even put a statue of a peace sign in her TTPD exhibit at The Grove. Thought to be an easter egg for the double album but she continued doing it after the albums release. - Obviously, 2 + 2 = 4. But 4 can also be broken down into two pairs of 1's. Twin flame numbers are 1111 (so 4), and 2222 (so 8) respectively. - Taylor & Matty are both fire signs. Twin flames are often described as mirroring each other.
3's - Graphically, a 3 is half of 8 (especially in certain fonts). - In ATPOIAM, episode 2, entitled Fame (, https://youtu.be/44ezfnnRE0k?si=YcLcKnJrPHWY-Yyc) Matty stuffs himself into a suitcase (a story long told about Taylor was that she stuffed herself in a suitcase to escaped the hordes of paparazzi and fans when leaving her apartment). The suitcase has the number 3 on it and the elevator goes to the 3rd floor (despite the next shot being on them outside of The Bowery hotel). I've stayed at the Bowery, the 3rd floor is not how you get outside, lol. - TaylorNation put out a promo video that was a mash up of 1989 era images, it featured a vault and it also featured a clip from the Bejeweled music video (which has other interesting references to things happening right now), but Taylor was pressing the button for the 3rd floor (not in the original video). Everyone thought this indicated a big surprise coming on 5/3/2024 (2 weeks after the TTPD release). Much clowning ensued, nothing happened...except Matty posted a cover of his song "All I Need To Hear" to his IG. - Bejeweled MV was released on 10/25/2022...10+25 = 53 and 5+3 = 8 OR 1 + 2 + 5 = 8. 222 is an angel number related to soul mates.
I'm sure that I didn't even write out half of the things I've noticed because this post is getting unweildy but if there are other numerology nerds and people who have noticed this repetition, please add your observations!
Edit to add: Matty's birthday! 04/08/1989 so 4's and 8's abound!
