2024.05.21 16:29 AwarenessOpposite410 Staycation Disaster

Hi! I want to share my family’s experience sa isang private villa in Binangonan, Rizal. That villa has 2 units. Lagi sila fully-booked and that weekend may kasabay kami na nag team building daw. 25 pax sila while kami 9pax lang. We rented the place to celebrate the bday of my disabled mother and the pregnancy of my sis-in-law.
We all went to our rooms na around 12mn to rest. Around that time tolerable pa yung ingay. Nakatulog kami ng asawa ko mga 1am na then may hiyawan na malakas. 30mins pa lang ako nakakatulog. From 1:30am onwards, di na tumigil yung ingay. We tried calling the caretakers pati yung marketing team nila.. walang sumasagot. Out of frustration, kumatok na kami dun sa staff quarters walang sumasagot. Kaya around 3am tumawag na kami ng barangay thru 911. Medyo hesitant pa nga sila puntahan pero sinabi ko na may barangay ordinance na bawal mag-ingay ng 10pm-6am. Public disturbance yun.
Then almost 4am wala pa yung barangay and finally lumabas na yung caretakers. Kinatok nila twice yung isang villa para patigilin.
Sabi namin maingay pa din kayo at may videos kami to prove it 2.
We opted for deescalation. Umalis na kami ng kapatid ko and let our husbands handle the situation. May lumapit sa kanila na pinaka matanda ata sa group to say sorry. Ginising ko na mother ko and sis in law to prepare to leave the place kasi anong laban namin sa 25 pax na brats and lasing. Umalis lang yung barangay then tuloy pa din sila sa pag mock samin. Nagpaparinig pa yung mga EBs.
First half of the stay is ok pero disaster yung half. I got sick because of the stress and lack of sleep. We demanded for a refund pero 30% lang binalik. Sobrang traumatic ng experience and I want those EBs to learn their lesson. Sadly, we were told na “future leaders” pala tong mga to. May mga kapit daw kaya they do whatever they want.
I hope you can give me advice. I don’t want to let this pass pero I dont want to go thru the stress of reporting them. Pero di ko maatim na sila yung so-called “future leaders”. Role models dapat sila ng youth pero basic respect wala sila.

2024.05.21 16:22 firebird8541154 Thoughts on a new Cycling App I'm developing?

I'm reaching out because I'm looking for some validation for this idea I've been building a proof of concept of.
A little about me to set some context, I, along with my roommates, make free cycling related tools in our spare time, including a routing tool, https://sherpa-map.com, a physics simulator tool for cycling, https://sherpa-map.com/cycling-route-calculator.html, and a GPX activity racer tool https://sherpa-map.com/activity-racer.html .
I've made a few others as well, but this post isn't about that, I just wanted to showcase the fact that I can build the upcoming idea, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it to develop it for anyone else.
The idea:
A phone app that lets users import a route GPX file and/or start an activity. The app is designed to work entirely offline, in your pocket, without much of a GUI, providing voiced turn-by-turn directions if following a route.
While you are riding, it allows you to ask questions or give commands into your Bluetooth headset, like, "What's the distance until the next aid station?", "Route me back to the beginning on the flattest possible route.", "What's my best 20-minute normalized power so far?", "What's my current distance?", "What's my net elevation gain?", "What mile has the beginning of the biggest climb on the route?".
Utilizing the physics simulator code and your riding so far, it could even determine when you'll be where, so you can ask, "How much longer until I'm back on pavement?", "When should I start heading back to avoid the sun going down when cycling?".
I also plan on having it continuously monitor and analyze your ride, so if you finish a climb it can recognize this and state "Nice job! You managed 340 watts for 3 minutes up the last 300ft climb!".
Basically, the idea is, that this could replace your head unit (or accompany it nicely).
I even intend it to have rerouting capabilities, i.e. "take me to the nearest gas station".
So far, I've managed to develop a functioning Android app that works entirely offline, monitoring for speech using webRTCVAD, recording speech to memory, transcribing speech using a specially trained Mozilla Deepspeech model, on the phone, tokenizing the transcription with a WordPeice algorithm, and feeding it to a specially trained BERT Tensorflow model which maps your intent to a particular function.
I plan on developing this app no matter what for my purposes as I feel having practically limitless knowledge of the entire route, and the activity thus far, as well as voiced turn-by-turn directions that function entirely offline could help me with upcoming gravel races. However, if people find this concept interesting, I'd buy a MacBook to make an IOS version and flesh out the interface to be more user-friendly and have things like, a login, a connect with Strava feature, etc.

2024.05.21 16:20 Munsii Local LLM for text analysis

First off - I am new to LLMs so I do not really know what I am doing.
I was given the task to build a summarization and analysis pipeline. The pipeline has to analyze about 100 news article, scan for some specific information and summarize the articles which hold the wanted data. In a last step the model is supposed to assess if certain criterias are met by the summaries and give an according grade. I already implemented this using only the openai API with chatgpt-3.5 and the langchain framework, which works just fine.
Unfortunately the system may not send data into the cloud so I need a way to reproduce the pipeline locally. My first instinct was to download meta-llama-3-8B from hugging face and try it out but I got stuck pretty early into the project. Like I said, I am quite new to LLMs and the frameworks that come with them. To get into it I simply wanted to "talk" to the model to see how the answers are generated. I used the transformers framework, loaded the llm, created a "text generation" pipeline and put in some text.
But no matter what I try, I won't get a proper answer. Sometimes text gets generated, sometimes it does not. The only consistency I can find is, that it does not want to answer my questions directly. I can't even get an answer to the question "How are you?".
So my guess is that I am doing something fundamentally wrong here. Any suggestions where I took the wrong turn?

2024.05.21 16:18 Intelligent_Shoe_309 when should I start charging for my work?

I've been doing makeup modeling for makeup artists in the area I live. I grew up in the states, but moved to the middle east a few years ago. In my area, I'm the only person who speaks Native English as their first language, so I've been asked to film videos about my opinion on the artist's ability to do "European makeup" when doing the "after" pictures. I take after my mom who is American, ethnically British and Swedish, so artists usually do lighter makeup on me since most of the clients ask for heavier makeup and the artists want to add variety to their portfolio.
The last time I was a model for a salon, they really photoshopped my pictures to the point that I look like an alien, and I'm not exaggerating. Generally, it takes about six hours for this work. I'm not saying it's a long time, but I do have to take time away from other commitments to do this, just like all models. I've done work for free to get experience and to build a portfolio, like many models do. I asked a makeup artist what models normally charge here, as it's different than in the states. She said that until models are well-known in the area, they are free, and that I shouldn't charge yet. But people are already reaching out to me specifically, and I feel uncomfortable when I'm asked to give my opinion on camera, without getting compensation.
It's not about the money for me, as much as it is about the principle, especially when they're photoshopping me into an alien and asking me my personal opinions. But I don't know if maybe I'm being too sensitive and should just continue to do free work. Any opinions or advice is appreciated.

2024.05.21 16:07 Unlikely-Trouble-911 Help to use yolov8 model

I'm working on a graduation project that involves building a Data Management System (DMS) . This system aims to verify student IDs and extract text information through Optical Character Recognition (OCR). I'm currently using YOLOv8 for ID detection. I've trained the model on a dataset of 300 student ID images, but I'm encountering some challenges and I try solve it but didn't find any result .
Despite these attempts, my latest training run resulted in "no detection." I'm unsure why the model isn't detecting any IDs in new images.
I'd greatly appreciate some guidance in troubleshooting this issue. I'm stuck and need help pinpointing the root cause.

2024.05.21 16:07 MolassesDense2447 iMac M3 vs Prebuilt

So my question is would I be better on spending my money on an IMac or a prebuilt widows pc or just build one (I have no experience but I’m sure with YouTube and this subreddit I can figure it out). I’ll mostly be using it for video and photo editing with some minor 3d modeling. My wife is all about apple products but basically said I should get what would work best for my stuff since her stuff is mostly documents and spreadsheets. So I’m just kinda looking for suggestions. Budget would be 1500-2000.
Programs I use are premier, photoshop, after effects and blender.

2024.05.21 16:05 jarman65 Smart lock or keypad deadbolt for condo door?

Photos
I live in a 9 story midrise apartment building without a front desk or doorman so we’re on our own if we lock ourselves out which happened two weeks after we moved in and happens every so often when I forget my keys and my wife isn’t home.
We now have a Masterlock 5400D lockbox with a spare key attached to a fence outside our building where there’s probably 30 or so other spare key lockboxes, most of them the same lockbox model. After 2 years, the lockbox is getting a little rusty inside and is pretty difficult to open after you’ve entered the correct code so I don’t think that’s a good long term solution. It also sounds like these lockboxes aren’t very secure even if someone was able to open ours among the 30 or so others they would then have to guess the right unit since it’s a fairly large building.
Would a smart lock be a good solution for my situation or would a deadbolt with a keypad be a more reliable option? I don’t need to remotely unlock the door for people when we're not home — I just need a backup for when I forget my keys. Battery life would be a concern and if there’s still a way to get in if it dies.

2024.05.21 16:03 G0dK11ng Error when using BERT for text classification

I'm trying to create a model using the pre-trained BERT model from kaggle. The model architecture is given below:
import tensorflow_hub as hub import tensorflow_text as text import numpy as np from tensorflow.keras.optimizers import SGD from tensorflow.keras.models import Model from tensorflow.keras.layers import Input, Dense def build_model(bert_layer, preprocessor): text_input = Input(shape=(), dtype=tf.string) encoder_inputs = preprocessor(text_input) pooled_output, sequence_output = bert_layer(encoder_inputs) clf_output = sequence_output[:, 0, :] out = Dense(1, activation='sigmoid')(clf_output) model = Model(inputs=text_input, outputs=out) optimizer = SGD(learning_rate=self.lr, momentum=0.8) # model.compile(loss='binary_crossentropy', optimizer=optimizer, metrics=['accuracy']) return model
The error is given below:
ValueError: Exception encountered when calling layer 'keras_layer_2' (type KerasLayer).
A KerasTensor is symbolic: it's a placeholder for a shape an a dtype. It doesn't have any actual numerical value. You cannot convert it to a NumPy array.
Call arguments received by layer 'keras_layer_2' (type KerasLayer):
• inputs=
• training=None
I believe a numpy function is being called on the Input layer, which does not have any values. Is there any way to fix this. Is this due to dependency version mis match?
Thanks!

2024.05.21 16:02 Weird-Tax-8878 Help me decide between 2 PC's!

Hey, I'm wanting to purchase my first ever PC for 1080p Ultra gaming.
This is my current build ($1835AUD): https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/QJVDgB
Key features: • Ryzen 5 7600 • MSI RTX 4060 • ATX MOBO (B650) • Fractal North Case • 4 fans
Build number 2 ($1819AUD): https://www.aftershockpc.com.au/pc-models/eofy-2024-zealm-lite?completed=&selections=%7B%22cpu%22%3A43574970679451%2C%22motherboard%22%3A43345232199835%2C%22ram%22%3A43779811082395%2C%22graphics_card%22%3A44731712045211%2C%22power_supply_unit%22%3A39452899246235%2C%22cpu_cooling_system%22%3A44906401530011%2C%22primary_ssd%22%3A44037356388507%2C%22chassis_fans%22%3A43031001301147%7D&step=review
Key features: • Ryzen 7 7700 • PNY RTX 4060 • mATX MOBO (B650) • Smaller-sized case • Better warranty and customer suppport • 6 fans
I really love the Fractal North case and have had my heart set on it for several months, however, I have never built a PC before. I don't feel overly confident with building it which is why I like the Aftershock rig.
With Aftershock, they build it for me (saving me time and money) and it comes with a better processor whilst being cheaper than my build. The only downsides for me are that it comes with an mATX board instead of a normal-sized one, and I just really prefer the Fractal North case.
I'll be getting a higher-paying job next year so I would want to upgrade my GPU to like a 4080 when I have that, but right now, all I want is a 1080p rig (as I only have a 1080p monitor). If I get build 1, I'd eventually have to upgrade CPU AND GPU. With build 2, I'd only really have to upgrade the GPU.
Is it worth it to bite the bullet and get the case I like less with better specs (and being cheaper), or should I continue with my build?
ALTERNATIVELY: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/8Fvb9c
This build uses the case I like and has the better processor, but uses an mATX board which: • A: looks funny in the bigger sized case, and; • B: has less room for upgrades in the future (e.g., less fan slots, less SSD slots, etc...)
Again, I don't feel confident building the PC myself, so any insight into what I should do would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.21 15:58 InTheDarknesBindThem My thoughts on AGI

Let me first start by saying that these are just me exploring my ideas on the topic of AGI and the current state of the art. I am not trying to convince you to agree with me, I just want to have a casual conversation and see what others think of my ideas.

First is my definition and thoughts on General Intelligence (GI)

I want to preface this by saying there is not much agreement on the definition of GI and therefore I provide my own. Disagree if you like, but please read the rest knowing what I mean when I use that term.
General intelligence is the ability of a problem solver to engage with completely new problems (to it), and crucially to be able to recognize its own failings, formulate a plan to overcome those failings, implement that plan, and ultimately rinse and repeat until a valid solution is found.
This can be further broken into two major kinds of plans. The first is to check if knowledge of solutions to this kind of problem already exist in the world and to seek out and incorporate that knowledge. The second, and ultimately only important kind is when no existing solutions exist. The GI must attempt to model the problem following a varied field of possible solutions then explore those areas. Usually this occurs in many steps of explore and validation. This kind of exploration of possibilities is the core feature of solving new problems. It fundamentally requires “imagination” which is a loaded word so I will also define it here
Imagination in this context means the ability to predict ways the world might work which are not necessarily real and which may have only a very loose connection to existing understanding. In other words, to solve problems generally we need a way to make “random” leaps into a possible solution space near the border of this far explored and validated solution space, then to check if those leaps land in places which match how the world is known to work (aka. A hypothesis followed by testing).
How do we (humans) make leaps into solution space? Thats an open question.
I do not think the current strategy of train then run AI can actually achieve this. We need AIs which are both training and working at the same time, the AI needs to be able to genuinely modify itself to approach situations differently across many attempts.

Are individual humans capable of GI?

Can humans even really do that? I mean can a singular human really solve different novel problems? It seems that virtually every solution humans have managed was in fact a group effort, building on others.
On reflection I think humans are capable of the above concept of making leaps into the solution space, and this is the core of GI. But I think most humans only make one, or two, leaps on any single problem. Most make an intuitive (aka, completely hidden to our conscience mind) assumption about the solution then spend a lot of time trying to show how it does match a real solution to the problem. Some people may explore a few ideas in this intuitive leaping but often settle on one. It is truly the exception that a human explore dozens or hundreds of jumps into the solution space. In fact, I doubt any human has done more than 10 on one problem. Instead we make progress by more than one human trying to make leaps. This, while individual humans are capable of GI it is only really in the collective that we solve difficult new problems.
What does this mean to AGI? I think it means we may be being unreasonable and unrealistic to expect a single AI entity to be capable of solving problems generally..or it means that an AGI would have to be more inventive or have better imagination (see above definition) than any one human. But I expect this would be hard as I think the variety of imagination in humans is actually a product of their genetics and life, so one AI is not likely to have the variety in parameters needed to make hundreds of different leaps into the solution space and we may in fact need AIs which are not all just clones from the same training to solve problems in a collective manner as we do. Although perhaps we could package many minds into one external interface to give the illusion of an individual.

Are we close to AGI?

I do not think we are as close as others. Definitely GPT4o is not it and I think the entire current method of making these AIs will fail to yield GI as we know it. I cant say how far off we are, but I dont think its in the next 5 years due to "barking up the wrong tree". I do not think the train then run model can work for GI.
However, I don't think GI is needed for AI to disrupt the world.
I believe advancements along our current path of non-general artificial intelligence will still be completely disruptive to our society.
I think AI of the current and near future will be able to do anything we already know how to do, but faster, more reliably, and cheaper. This alone will change the world to one where all “menial” mental tasks are meaningless. This will still cause a singularity, just not a super intelligence singularity.
All value will shift onto new solutions until we solve the last problem we will ever solve, how to make machines with GI.
Thanks for reading.

2024.05.21 15:53 lukas_lb How many infantry to buy? New Player

Hi!
I just finished building and painting my german side of the Band of Brothers kit. Like many of you suggested, my plan is to buy more infantry since 12 is way to less.
I'm thinking of buying the german grenadiers infantry set but it has 30 models. I haven't seen a battle report with so many infantry models on the german side so I don't know if I should buy less and get another vehicle or howitzer instead. I am also thinking about buying the german weapons team for the 3 extra dice.
So what sets should I buy to aim 500 and then 1000 points? How many infantry is too much or can I build other troop types out of the grenadiers box (like spotter, MMG or sniper)?

2024.05.21 15:49 mtufekyapan What is Shopify Abandoned Cart Recovery

Let’s imagine this story. Build an awesome store, start your marketing campaigns and waiting the sales. Then you saw people are adding products to their cart but leaving their cart without buying anything. This is what we call cart abandonment. When you turn these abandoners to customer, it’s what we call abandoned cart recoveryLet’s imagine this story. Build an awesome store, start your marketing campaigns and waiting the sales. Then you saw people are adding products to their cart but leaving their cart without buying anything. This is what we call cart abandonment. When you turn these abandoners to customer, it’s what we call abandoned cart recovery.

Common Solutions for Cart Recovery

First I want to mention most common strategies for Shopify cart recovery.

1. Cart Recovery Emails

You can send emails to people who leave their cart without completing their order. Best part is Shopify offer a native way for it. Even some third party apps like Klaviyo, Mailchimp, offer this solution most of the time we continue with Shopify’s own native solution.
Choose how much time you wait before sending cart recovery emails and send them an email to complete their order right away.
Most common practice is putting a discount in these emails for coming back and completing the order. We don’t recommend that, you’ll see the why later.

2. Re-marketing Campaigns

Create custom audiences based on events on Meta and Google. Most of the time we use events for creating these audiences.
Create segments for visitors that has performed “checkout begin” event but not “purchase”.

3. Text Campaigns

If you’re collecting number of your visitors, you can use these data for cart recovery, too. You can start text messages like emails to bring back your visitors to store and complete their orders.

What is Missing

First you need to understand what makes your visitors to leave the checkout process. This is why it’s important to understand your funnel data.
Sending emails, texts and re-marketing for checkout abandoners help you to focus on visitors who started checkout but not completed.
However there are a greater potential in people who adds at least one product to their cart but leave the store.
After working with 300+ Shopify stores, one of the most common reason behind this behavior is POSTPONING buying decision.
People like your products, want to buy it someday but just not today. When you think yourself, it’s quite natural, right?
If you’re not looking for something urgent to you, you can postpone it easily.
This is why we built Growth Suite. Growth Suite gives your visitors a reason to complete their order right away.
This is how Growth Suite helps you to get more conversions.
  1. Growth Suite analyze your visitors behavior in real-time.
  2. Thanks to AI driven engine it measures visitor’s buying intention in real time and find when your visitors most interested. Not when they’re leaving.
  3. It makes a real time-limited offer. Timer will appear on all pages. Like a native element on your store.
  4. Product pages, cart-drawer and cart-page updated with conversion messages.
  5. Growth Suite creates unique, one-time limited discount codes for each offer.
  6. When timer is done, discount is automatically deleted from Shopify and visitor’s cart.
  7. Same visitor can’t see any offer again for a while.
Give it a try now.

2024.05.21 15:44 bpoftheoilspills Solo-"preneurs": What software do you use to manage your workflow? [US]

I run a pretty small-scale (at the moment) concert booking business and I've recently made a foray into attempting to do it full time and standardize/streamline my process, knowing that in order to make a living doing it I'll have to pass off at least some of the reins to someone else at some point. I've been scouring the internet for tools/software to manage the workflow of each show that I put together but everything I run into either doesn't do what I want it to do or is built for companies of 100+ people working on big-budget projects. I really want something in between those systems and a standard "to-do" list, so I came here hoping someone could point me in the direction of what I'm looking for.
Basically, I want to create a template "to-do" list where once certain things are completed it automatically creates the next "step" as a task with the appropriate deadline - some tasks will need to give an option once they're "due" to either re-do them or mark them as completed, and some things will only need to be done once. I can use this template and create it every time I get a request for a show, and then just follow what needs to be done for all of my shows on that particular day, regardless of what stage they're in.
I'm at the point where I might just build what I want in excel, but I am not underestimating the automation and "looking nice" part of it in how likely it is to work long term, so I figured I'd look here first.

2024.05.21 15:41 artigabarielle Legionaries wargear options

Legionaries wargear options
Do i read it correctly. If i take 10-man squad I'll still be able to take only 1 heavy melee weapon, it doesn't matter 5 man or 10 man. For special weapons it's clear, we only can take 1 per 5 models without duplicates. I planned to build a melee squad with a lord and moe of 10. But don't know now if it is worth it taking 10 legionaries.

2024.05.21 15:30 Gee7220 Need help building a new PC for my brother - Iracing in VR

Questions
Is this a brand new build, or an upgrade to an existing build?
Brand new
Please list any existing parts or monitor(s) you have that you would like to re-use with this build. For upgrades, a PCPartPicker list of your full build is extremely helpful. Be as specific as you can be here, including links or exact model numbers of each component whenever possible.
Brother has a sim racing seat with single screen mounted. will want to use Meta Quest 2 for VR with iracing and other racing sims
What will this PC be used for? Examples include things like gaming, general/multimedia use, photo/video editing, coding, AI/ML, etc. Include specific games and applications you intend to run, and any particular performance goals you have, as each may have different specific hardware needs.
VR performance, minimum 60 fps, preferable to have 90 fps plus. He would like to mostly run sim racing games and American truck sim as well. I would say minimum 1080p but would prefer 1440p (or equivalent in VR headset)
What country will you be purchasing in? If you are in the US, do you live near a Micro Center? For other countries, please check if your country is supported by PCPartPicker by using the country selector dropdown on the top right - if not, please provide some links to reliable local vendors you are comfortable ordering from.
Canada
Do you need one or more monitors included in the budget? Please list how many and any size/resolution/refresh rate preferences if needed.
No monitor or other peripherals required
What is your preferred and maximum budget range for this build, in local currency? Parts lists may sometimes have additional shipping costs. Please note whether prices in your country include sales tax or not, and adjust your budget accordingly. Typically VAT countries will have it included in the part list prices, whereas regular sales tax countries like the US and Canada will not.
$1200 CAD max would be the budget
Do you need WiFi, or do you have a wired ethernet connection available?
both available but I would say to include a Mobo with at least wifi 6E or a wifi card (or usb dongles if they are any good)
Do you have any specific size or noise requirements for the build?
no size requirement but preferable microATX mini tower...I'm sure he would take the cheaper option even if it is full ATX tower. No noise requirements
Do you have any aesthetic preferences for color or lighting? Describe what you're looking for, or feel free to provide some links to examples that may help. Some people prefer an inobtrusive stealth build, while others may prefer a case full of rainbow RGB.
Zero preference, functionality is key
Any other specific requests or requirements? Examples might include a specific minimum amount of storage, or a particular CPU socket for a future upgrade path, etc.
Like I said, VR performance is key. however I would argue that the PC would also be good as a streaming machine as it will sit in the garage and maybe could be paired with a nice handheld for streaming it.
