2024.05.21 06:00 skjbdjd six month tsw/eczema update

i’m usually a viewer on reddit but i would like to share my experience with everyone here in case it helps someone else feel less alone or can help anyone out.
i had a quite minor flare( to me back then it seemed major because my skin was never as angry and inflamed as it was) in september and went to the dermatologist and he prescribed me triamcinalone and i used two tubes of it, so twice a day for around 3 weeks, applying generous amounts. this wasn’t the first time i had used topical steroids, had been using g them on and off since i was around 9 (i am currently 18). it was usually triamcinalone twice a day and some other higher potency steroid once a day.
even though i had only used the triamcinalone for three weeks ish, once i stopped, i started flaring on places i never even thought my eczema would spread to, including my FEET and my back and face and even around my chest, which i always had close to perfect skin on. my problem areas, as most people, were the backs of my knees and the creases of my elbows. in january, my dermatologist put me on rinvoq. it has been 5 months that i am on rinvoq and for me it worked, but it has not been a miracle drug. the first 2 weeks - around 10 weeks, was when i noticed the most progress, but i still had problems around my neck and such. another thing i noticed with rinvoq is that it makes me super sensitive to everything around me, including my dog that i was never allergic to and the sun. i am currently in the process of switching to dupixent.
throughout these 6 months i have made major lifestyle changes. slowly started to cut out dairy and gluten and i have been 100% dairy and gluten free for ten weeks now. i also dont eat sesame, nuts and seafood and i try to avoid soy and sugar as much as i can.
along with this, i try to eat foods that have healthy fats, and i mostly only eat whole foods. i know this seems hard and i thought it was impossible but nothing tastes good enough to compensate for the itching and the burning skin. since i am 18, i still go out but when i do go out, i try to limit myself to certain foods since most places use seed oils, usually chipotle is a great option. i get brown rice, both beans, chicken, green salsa and lettuce. i used to get fajitas corn and pico but i stopped because peppers and tomatoes are nightshades and corn is not very good for you. i also drink loads of green tea since it lowers immunoglobulin e and has many other health benefits.
the best advice i can probably give is 1. to heal your gut 2. have a good skincare regimen 3. sleep a lot
i dont see many people sharing their specific skincare routine so ill share mine.
i wash my face with a la roche posay cleanser around once every 2-3 days. then 1. la roche posay thermal spring water 2. hyalyronic acid (good molecules) 3. squalene (the ordinary) 4. byoma recovery oil 5. rosehip seed oil (the ordinary) 6. la roche posay eczema soothing cream 7. mineral sunscreen (good molecules)
the steps with brands in parentheses are the ones i use, but as long as it’s that ingredient. i think any brand should be fine. i know it seems like a lot but i dont don’t do all steps at once and if you want a simple routine i would suggest just using rosehip seed oil from the ordinary and a good moisturizesunscreen. i love the ordinary rosehip seed oil i have repurchased around 5-6 times. 100% recommend, super gentle and moisturizing and DOES NOT sting.
good luck to anyone reading this, i know its hard but i try to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and maybe one day we can leave the house without an entire tube of moisturizer ❤️❤️

2024.05.21 00:19 lost_library_book (TIFUpdate) TIFU by realizing I wasn’t washing my “hair” right for 20+ years

TIFU by realizing I wasn’t washing my “hair” right for 20+ years
Uh okay. So warning.. this is very much gross.
Over the past several weeks I have been feeling these weird skin-like but not fully-attached lumps on my head. I’ve been scratching and picking them off fully (or so I thought) and didn’t give it a second thought.
Well, today my boyfriend takes a good look at my scalp in one of those spots that I was scratching because he was curious as to what I was doing. Apparently I was really going at it without noticing.
He practically gasped and asked me if I had hit my head, or if it hurt. I was stunned for a moment (it only felt like a little dry skin) and that began my panic induced examination. As it turns out, my entire scalp is covered in ranges of flaky to thick lumps of dandruff. And because I have a lot of hair, it isn’t noticeable on the outside unless you start going through layer by layer…
I obsessively begin to scratch and scrape my entire scalp to the point where it’s now in pain. There’s flakes and chunks entangled throughout my hair.. I am freaking out. I start Googling, thinking I must be dying, all my hair is about to fall out, etc.
Yeah.. no. Apparently you are supposed to scrub your scalp when you shampoo… I never knew this. Also I immediately put my wet hair in a bun or braid every time I washed it so it didn’t dry for literally 24 hours and caused more dry skin buildup. I really hope that after years (plus scraping for hours today) I haven’t really fucked my scalp up.
TL;DR : I haven’t scrubbed my scalp for 20 years because I didn’t know you had to. I have been scraping chunks of dry skin off my scalp for the past few hours. I feel disgusting.
EDIT: Firstly I’d like to say thank you to everyone for your advice and kind replies! I also wanted to answer a few of the common questions I saw.
  1. “How did you not notice this for so long?” - I don’t think it was this bad my entire life, as I’ve said I’ve only seen flakes sometimes. It got like this sometime recently. I don’t particularly make note of checking my scalp on a periodic basis. Also if you haven’t already noticed by my username, I have ADHD. Out of sight out of mind. I don’t even intend to be gross… but like many others with ADHD we can struggle with habit, routines, etc.
  2. “Why did you not just go to a doctor?” - I’m in America and healthcare costs are high. I can’t afford to go see one at this time even with insurance.
  3. “Where did you put shampoo then?” - I put it on my head (obviously) and throughout all my hair. I think since my hair is so thick that when lathering the shampoo in, I may not have been really getting it onto my scalp enough. I’ve made note of the shampooing twice to help with that though, so thanks to those who said that!
  4. “Did your parents not teach you ‘xyz’?” - Apparently not. Not everyone has good parents. I definitely did not. I’ve had to figure out many things throughout life on my own.
Most replies were very positive/helpful though. Thank you! I will be getting a new shampoo as I’ve been using a very cheap brand. Hopefully that helps!

Go see a dermatologist! That doesn't sound like a pure hygiene issue.
obsidianbonefish
Sounds like psoriasis on your scalp. The flakes are thick and oily. A dermatologist can prescribe something for it.
nicolasbaege
Maybe seborrheic dermatitis, since the oily part is a bit unusual for psoriasis. Some unlucky people even have both. But yeah, a dermatologist needs to look at that.
Update - 10 months later
Hi. It’s me again. I posted nearly a year ago about my “disgusting” scalp. Most comments were super helpful & positive. Others… called me a gross human being.
Anyhow, as it turns out, many of you were correct. I have psoriasis. I wasn’t washing my haiscalp wrong like I had thought. (I thought you had to scrape it basically.. like many other commenters had me believe.) but I am not an unhygienic person. Quite the opposite.
After posting that, I started to develop dry patches behind one of my ears, and around my eyebrows. No amount of washing, or lotion, makes them go away. So yeah. Turns out I wasn’t washing myself incorrectly. I just have psoriasis… I guess even this update is basically another “TIFU” by thinking I was not washing myself correctly; when I just had a skin condition.
Thanks to everyone who gave tips for dealing with psoriasis! And I’m glad my post called light to an issue that is more common than people think!
TL;DR: My real fuck up was not that I was washing myself incorrectly. I have psoriasis.

Long time psoriasis sufferer can give you some advice. First this: if anyone does not like the look of your patches they can look at the mountains or gardens or whatever they do like it's their choice. Do not stress about it.
2nd try to get plenty of sun 3rd sea water or salt water will clear the excess skin but will not get rid of the redness. 4th stress is definately a factor. 5th sometimes small patches go away if you ignore them. 6h special hair shampoo work for short periods of time so alternate between a few products. And keep well away from some anti dandruff shampoos (old head and shoulders from the 80s and 90s made mine worse don't know about now though). And lastly my psoriasis formed mostly on scar tissue (elbows knees and cuts) so watch out.

The points about sunlight and stress here are super important and not talked about enough. I have pretty bad plaque psoriasis all over my body. Huge patches of flaky, gross skin on my face, elbows, and knees. The more time I spend outside in the summer, the better it gets. I was able to spend a month at the lakes last summer and it basically went away. Came back during the winter with a vengeance though so I'm hoping I can get back out there again this summer.
I have an Uncle who gets it pretty bad too and he says Skyrizi has worked great for him. I haven't been able to get a prescription myself yet but it's probably worth asking your dermatologist about it if that's an option for you.
That’s super interesting/informative to hear! Thank you for sharing. Before psoriasis, I have had another skin condition; Keratosis Pilaris (aka chicken skin), and it has always been bettealmost gone with warm weather and the summer months. I wondehope that my psoriasis will be the same.
Marked concludedish?
No brigading, no harassment.

In my journey to discover the best deodorant, Kopari's Brightening Aluminum-Free Roll On Deodorant caught my eye. I'm happy to report that this deodorant has been a game changer for me.
First off, I must say that the fresh melon scent truly transports me to a tropical paradise. It's subtle and not overpowering, which I greatly appreciate. Applying this roll-on is super convenient and mess-free.
One thing that sets this deodorant apart is its unique combination of plant-based actives. These ingredients help provide long-lasting odor protection while simultaneously working to brighten the appearance of my underarms. I didn't experience any serious irritation during the transition, which can be common with natural deodorants.
However, there are a few minor issues that are worth mentioning. Some users have reported a slight stickiness or residue left behind after application. There's also a chance that it may not last all day, especially for individuals with active lifestyles.
Despite these minor cons, Kopari's Brightening Aluminum-Free Roll On Deodorant has truly made a difference in my daily life. Over time, I have noticed that my underarms are visibly brighter and smoother. While it may not be perfect for everyone, I would definitely recommend giving this deodorant a try.

As someone who has struggled with sweaty hands my entire life, I was excited to try out Carpe Antiperspirant Hand and Foot Lotion. The first thing that struck me was the soothing eucalyptus scent, which quickly faded after application but still left me with comforting tingles on my hands and feet. I applied it every night before bed for the recommended four weeks, and I must say, it made a noticeable difference.
One standout feature of Carpe is its non-irritating nature. Unlike some other antiperspirants I've tried, it did not cause any unpleasant sensations or redness on my skin. The lotion also dries quickly, making it easy to apply throughout the day without leaving any residue on my hands or feet.
However, I did experience one minor issue with the foot lotion. When I applied it in the morning right after my shower, it remained sticky for a while, making it a bit uncomfortable to wear shoes. Nonetheless, I found that applying it at night before bed and sleeping in socks worked much better, ensuring that my feet were dry and comfortable come morning.
In summary, while there may be some room for improvement with the foot lotion, overall, Carpe Antiperspirant Hand and Foot Lotion has been a game-changer for me. Its gentle yet effective formula has helped control my excessive sweating and boosted my confidence in both social and professional situations.
For anyone else dealing with this issue, I would highly recommend giving Carpe a try – it might just change your life too!

🔗Underarm Exfoliation and Odor Control Scrub

I recently discovered Carpe Exfoliating Underarm Wash, and it has quickly become a staple in my shower routine. This gentle scrub effectively cleanses and exfoliates my underarms, leaving them feeling refreshed and ready for the day. The natural oils and witch hazel in the formula help to nourish and soothe my skin, while the exfoliating beads work to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores.
One of the standout features of Carpe Exfoliating Underarm Wash is its ability to reduce odor and improve the performance of my deodorant. I've noticed that even on days when I forget to apply deodorant, my underarms stay fresh and smell great. The energizing minty scent adds an extra layer of freshness, although some users may prefer a more floral or sweet fragrance.
However, some users have reported experiencing mild skin irritation after using the product, so it's essential to perform a patch test before applying it all over your underarms. Overall, I would highly recommend Carpe Exfoliating Underarm Wash to anyone looking for a gentle and effective way to maintain fresh and odor-free underarms.

🔗On-The-Go Sweat-Fighting Wipes

Carpe's On-The-Go Antiperspirant Underarm Wipes have been a game-changer in my daily life, making the fight against sweat so much easier and more manageable. From the convenience of having individually wrapped wipes that are easy to slip into my purse or pocket to the impressive effectiveness of keeping me dry all day long, these wipes have made a significant difference in how I feel and function on a daily basis.
The 7x9" wipes are not only large enough to comfortably cover the entire underarm area, but they're also incredibly versatile, allowing me to use them on wet, damp, or dry skin with equal ease. The no-residue formula is gentle on the skin, while still providing me with the powerful, refreshing sweat relief I've been looking for.
What sets these wipes apart from other antiperspirants on the market is their ability to be used throughout the day when I'm already sweaty and on-the-move. This has been particularly beneficial during long workdays and during travels, where keeping fresh and dry can often seem like an impossible task.
Of course, no product is perfect, and some users may experience a slight inconvenience with the product transferring to your hands during application. However, this issue can easily be resolved with a quick wash afterward.
Overall, Carpe's On-The-Go Antiperspirant Underarm Wipes have truly been a life saver for me, providing me with the reliable sweat relief and freshness I've been searching for. I highly recommend giving these wipes a try, especially considering the convenient single-use packaging and the affordability of subscribing to a regular supply.

🔗Clinically Proven Antiperspirant Foot Lotion - Plantar Hyperhidrosis Treatment

https://preview.redd.it/rfu50vwv2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d38c0f335ff8911be832629e8e5e5b401d170264
Carpe Antiperspirant Foot Lotion has become a game-changer in my daily life. As someone who suffers from excessive foot sweat and odor, I was always on the hunt for a solution that would help me regain my confidence. This lotion has been a lifesaver, giving me fresh, dry feet and keeping odor at bay.
The first thing that stood out to me about this product was its smooth, non-greasy texture. Unlike other foot creams I've tried, Carpe doesn't leave a sticky or oily residue on my skin, which is especially important when I'm wearing shoes. The lotion applies easily and dries quickly, making it perfect for busy mornings when I don't have time to wait around for my products to absorb.
Another highlight of Carpe is its natural eucalyptus oil and moisturizing ingredients. While the lotion effectively tackles my sweat problem, it also soothes and hydrates my skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth. The gentle scent of eucalyptus is a welcome addition, providing a refreshing aroma that lingers throughout the day.
However, there are a few cons to consider with this product. Firstly, the small tube size may be a concern for some users, especially given the relatively high price point. Additionally, I've noticed that the lotion can leave some residue on socks, which may be unpleasant for some people.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I am extremely satisfied with the results I've seen using Carpe Antiperspirant Foot Lotion. It has greatly improved the quality of my life by eliminating embarrassing sweat and odor issues, and I would highly recommend it to anyone struggling with similar concerns.

🔗Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion for Hyperhidrosis (Warm Vanilla)

https://preview.redd.it/2oleun8w2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f91eefb9e7990ca68bbc4e12b33e0df439e3d623
Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion has been a game-changer in my daily life. As someone who suffers from hyperhidrosis, I was initially skeptical about its claims to help control hand sweat and make life more comfortable. However, after trying it out for myself, I can confidently say that it works wonders!
The first thing that stood out to me was how quickly the lotion dries on my hands. Unlike other moisturizers that leave a sticky residue, Carpe absorbs quickly and leaves no trace of greasiness behind. Its gentle formula is perfect for those with sensitive skin, as it's paraben-free and cruelty-free.
One major con is the lingering scent of mint, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. While it's not overpowering, it could be off-putting for some users. Another downside is that the product doesn't seem to have a significant moisturizing effect. So, if you're looking for something that also hydrates your skin, this might not be the best choice.
Overall, Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion has made a noticeable difference in my day-to-day life, helping me control my excessive hand sweat and feel more confident in social situations. Its speedy drying time, gentle formula, and effectiveness make it a worthwhile investment for anyone struggling with hyperhidrosis. Just keep in mind that it may not suit everyone's preferences due to its scent and lack of moisturizing properties.

🔗Fast-Absorbing Anti-Chafing Thigh Lotion for Sweat Reduction

https://preview.redd.it/lbvt5low2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b0c286bf4f5185c097721ee115492cb61aac168
Carpe Thigh Lotion has been my daily companion since I started using it a few weeks ago. The lotion is so lightweight and non-greasy that I feel like I'm not wearing anything on my thighs at all. Its natural ingredients, especially aloe vera, shea butter, and vitamin E, make my skin feel soothed and moisturized all day long.
One of the things that I really appreciate about this product is its pleasant, light scent. Unlike other lotions or deodorants I've tried, Carpe Thigh Lotion doesn't have a strong or overpowering smell, which is perfect for those who are sensitive to strong fragrances.
On the downside, I did notice a white residue left behind after application, but it was easy to wash off my hands and didn't leave any stains on my clothes. Another issue for me was the relatively small product size. Given how frequently I apply the lotion, especially during hot summer days, I find myself running out of it quite quickly.
In summary, I'm very happy with the performance of Carpe Thigh Lotion. Its lightweight formula, natural ingredients, and pleasing scent make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to reduce chafing and dryness on their thighs, especially those who spend a lot of time outdoors or engage in physical activities. I would recommend this product to anyone in search of a reliable and effective solution for preventing chafing and keeping their skin smooth and comfortable all day long.

🔗Sweat and Odor-Reducing Groin Powder for Men

https://preview.redd.it/6eqwc11x2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd4cc127bf56031dde48e1eb9e4801dcddd82859
I recently tried Carpe Sweat Absorbing Groin Powder and I have to say, it's a game-changer! This product has made my daily life so much more comfortable. It's not just about keeping the sweat at bay; it's about preventing that dreaded chafing that can occur when you're on your feet all day.
The standout feature for me was the quick absorption time. As soon as I applied it, it disappeared into my skin, leaving no trace of residue or visible white powder. I also appreciated how dermatologist-tested and hypoallergenic it is, making it perfect for sensitive skin like mine.
However, there's one thing that could be improved upon. While the powder does an excellent job of reducing sweat, I found that the effect doesn't last quite as long as I'd like. So, if you're planning on being active for a long period, you may need to reapply.
All in all, I highly recommend Carpe Sweat Absorbing Groin Powder for men looking for a reliable solution to stay dry and comfortable all day long. It might not be perfect, but its benefits far outweigh any drawbacks. Give it a try and see for yourself!

🔗Carpe Clinical Grade Underarm Wipes - Effective Sweat Management Night Wipes

https://preview.redd.it/tz560yix2d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5616f46fb22216688de46c1d3cd0a714a7b83f7
I recently incorporated the Carpe Underarm Wipes into my nightly routine and it's been a total game-changer for me. I've struggled with excessive underarm sweating for years and it's finally under control now. After using these every other night along with their exfoliating product and antiperspirant, my underarms stay bone-dry for days. These lavender-scented wipes are such a convenient part of my nightly routine - just rub one on your underarms before bedtime and go to sleep. When you wake up, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how dry and odor-free your underarms remain.
One feature that really stands out is their gentle formula that doesn't cause any itching or irritation, unlike some other antiperspirants. Plus, they're incredibly easy to use and don't require any daily application – just remember to use them every other night.
However, there is one downside to consider: the thickness of the wipes. While they effectively combat underarm sweating, I wish they were a bit thicker so they lasted longer. Despite this minor inconvenience, I'm absolutely thrilled with the results I've experienced since incorporating Carpe Underarm Wipes into my routine.

🔗Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant and Deodorant Pack of 3 with Free On-the-Go Wipes

As someone who struggles with excessive sweating, I was excited to give Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant a try. I was blown away by its ability to effectively manage my hyperhidrosis symptoms. The soft-foam applicator is gentle on my skin and the natural eucalyptus scent keeps me feeling fresh throughout the day. This unobtrusive deodorant doesn't make me feel like I'm wearing a cloud of fragrance, which I appreciate. A definite pro is the inclusion of free on-the-go wipes, perfect for a quick freshen up on those particularly sweaty days. The only downside? It might not last as long as other brands, but it's a small price to pay for relief from excessive sweating.
Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant is truly a game-changer for those looking to manage their hyperhidrosis symptoms. Its gentle formula and subtle scent make it a joy to use, while the free on-the-go wipes are an added bonus. However, you may find that you need to apply it more frequently than some other brands. Overall, I highly recommend Carpe Deodorant for anyone in need of effective antiperspirant protection.

As a product review writer, I must say that the Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant has been a real game-changer for me. It's hard to remember life without it. Before discovering this amazing product, I had tried countless deodorants, only to be left with sweat-stained clothes and a lingering embarrassment. But Carpe changed all that.
One feature that really stands out is its long-lasting protection against sweat and odor. Whether I'm at the gym or walking around town on a hot summer day, I can trust that my underarms won't betray me. Another highlight worth mentioning is how gentle it is on my skin. Unlike other antiperspirants that leave me feeling irritated, this one leaves my skin feeling soft and comfortable.
However, there are some downsides. For instance, the applicator can be a bit tricky to use at first. It took me a few tries to get the hang of it, but once I did, applying the cream became second nature. Additionally, while the scent is quite pleasant, it can be a little overpowering for some people.
Overall, I highly recommend Carpe Underarm Antiperspirant to anyone looking for an effective solution to excessive sweating. It's a well-researched and dermatologist-tested product that truly delivers on its promises. Give it a try - your sweaty days might just be over!

🔗Dermatologist-Recommended Hand Lotion for Sweaty Hands

I've been using Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion for a few weeks now, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer for me. As someone who struggles with excessively sweaty hands, I can attest to the effectiveness of this product. This smooth, quick-drying lotion has managed to keep my hands dry and comfortable from morning till night.
One of the things that stands out about Carpe is its unique formula. Unlike other antiperspirants that can be harsh on the skin, Carpe is not only dermatologist-recommended, but it's also paraben-free and cruelty-free. This means that not only does it work effectively to control sweating, but it also takes care of your skin in the process.
On the flip side, I find that applying Carpe can leave a slightly greasy residue on my hands, which can take a few minutes to absorb completely. While this is a minor inconvenience, the benefits of using Carpe certainly outweigh this small con.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a reliable solution to excessive hand sweat, I'd highly recommend giving Carpe Antiperspirant Hand Lotion a try. Its gentle, skin-friendly formula and impressive performance make it a top pick for me.

As a reviewer who's had the chance to use Carpe Antiperspirant Foot Lotion, I couldn't be happier with the results. Before trying this product, I struggled daily with sweaty feet, and it impacted not only my comfort but also my self-confidence. However, Carpe has completely transformed my experience. Not only does it offer protection against blisters, but it also ensures my feet remain fresh all day long, thanks to its essential ingredient enriched formula. Its gentle, paraben-free composition on my skin is another stand-out feature.
While this lotion has worked wonders for me, it's worth mentioning that it does leave a somewhat funny film on your feet and can be more expensive than other products. However, if you're tired of trying everything and nothing seems to work, Carpe Antiperspirant Foot Lotion is definitely worth the investment. It's a product I will gladly continue using and recommend to others.

Buyer's Guide

Apply your Carpe Deodorant generously and evenly to clean, dry armpits. Allow it to dry completely before dressing to prevent any potential staining. For optimal results, apply after showering and try not to apply too much, as this may lead to decreased effectiveness. Finally, note that while some consumers report immediate results, others may need to use the product consistently for a few days or weeks to see the desired outcome.

2024.05.19 06:01 AutoModerator Weekly Suspected Lupus Thread - Week Of May 19, 2024

This is a weekly thread for those who haven't been diagnosed, but still have questions about the diagnostic process. Please read the posting guidelines and rules! Everyone is welcome to contribute, and this is a safe space.
QUESTIONS ARE LIMITED TO 400 WORDS
____________________________________________
Please read this before posting as it may answer some of your questions:
If you use the search bar at the top of Reddit and make sure it’s set to lupus, it will search just the subreddit for your keywords. That way you can get the full breadth of questions and answers. This isn’t to say that you can’t ask questions in the general forum.

ANA tests

Positive ANA does not equal lupus! While more of a rule out screening (negative ANA = very unlikely to have SLE). Upwards of 15-20% of healthy individuals in the population at large will have a positive ANA. Only about 10-15% of people who have a positive ANA will later be diagnosed with SLE.

Tests used in diagnosing lupus

Also, if you suspect you have a rash, getting a biopsy of it done at a dermatologist’s office can be helpful as the pathologist can identify histological evidence of lupus.

Diagnostic Process

ACR Diagnostic Criteria on lupus wiki
The rheumatologist/PCP will take a detailed history. I highly recommend writing down as many of your symptoms as possible, especially focusing on the symptoms you have that are in the American College of Rheumatology diagnostic criteria for lupus - see link above.
Include all your symptoms, but I would make those at the top of the list. Write down how long they’ve been going on, anything that makes them better or worse, and how much they impact your life. Do they prevent you from dressing yourself, eating/cooking, bathing yourself, doing hobbies, meeting your obligations?
ANA varies from person to person and doesn’t necessarily correlate with disease activity. Anti-dsDNA is more indicative of disease activity and can be elevated prior to and during a flare. Symptoms can also come and go, and over time you may develop additional symptoms. If you scroll through the last week of posts or so, there are a few posts that will have pretty detailed answers to your questions from multiple community members so you can get a better sense of just how full on fickle lupus can be.
Here are some good posts, one is other people experiences in general, the others are rashes (warning: some are particularly severe):

2024.05.17 11:36 vrijalife Vrija Brightening Face Serum

Dull, tired skin washed you out, but just a few drops of this skin illuminating pure magic will highly convert your complexion from yawn to fabulous. Endless radiance awaits the real complexion transformation experience with one drop at a time from the ultimate glow
What does your skin need?
As your body’s largest organ, your skin performs a variety of important and complex functions—from regulating your body temperature to protecting against germs. This is especially true of your skin’s outermost layer, also known as the skin barrier. Composed mostly of lipids (such as ceramides), this protective barrier acts as the primary gatekeeper between your skin and external environment—keeping water in and harmful substances out. Although a healthy skin barrier is essential for all skin types, it’s also important to remember that each individual’s skin is unique in many ways. This means that there’s no “one size fits all” approach to achieving radiant, healthy-looking skin.
Brightning Serum- Why Is It Important?
Dark spots can make your complexion appear uneven and dull, but brightening serums are here to help. Brightening face serums are designed to target dullness and give your complexion a much-needed radiance boost. The powerful ingredients in these types of face serums help to lighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation, which can be caused by sun exposure, hormones or ageing. Brightening face serums often contain natural ingredients such as Niacinamide, Manjistha, Red Algae and Alpha Arbutin to help clear the complexion, reduce pigmentation, and fade dark spots while also providing antioxidant protection. Regular use of brightening serums like Vrija Brightening Face Serum can also improve skin clarity as they help even out your skin tone over time.
Key Ingredients: Niacinamide:
Niacinamide: The Superhero
Ingredient Also known as Vitamin B3, this miracle spot lightener pulls double shifts, slowing down melanin production and fast-forwarding to an even pace. Niacinamide enforces the already-placed keratin and collagen in your skin's armor to keep in the moisture while keeping environmental attackers at bay. This dark spot dynamo will make sure extra pigmentation doesn't stand a chance.
Manjistha: Radiance from Mother Nature's Palette
A brilliant tour de force that detoxifies and clarifies for an ultra-even glow. Manjistha draws its brilliance not from the artificial but from vibrant red botanicals. Surely, nature had its own hand in helping our skin become radiant by driving off blemishes and helping to fade discolorations inside and out with great antibacterial and anti-inflammatory power.
Amla: India's Antioxidant Brightening Gem
Amla too, with its small stature, packs a worthy punch of brightening feels, with powerful antioxidants graciously exclaimed from within. Fortify against environmental aging to keep your skin fresh and youthful with Radiance that truly radiates from within.
Rejuvenating Red Algae from Spain
This wonderful serum begins with red algae that is harvested in the waters of Spain. It is infused with vitamin and mineral replenishing elements that ensure no better way but your skin does not tell your age. Moisture-Locking Power from France That's just radiance, hydration, extensive and precious, as thanks to innovative moisture locking technology hailing from France. The invisible shield reinforces the moisture barrier with time released humectants so, the dewy softness is kept sumptuously indomitable against environmental stressors.
Herb based Alpha Arbutin
But the true standout star comes from the brightening potion: alpha arbutin, an herb-based miracle that very gently hinders too much production of melanin. Say goodbye to uncooperative dark spots and discoloration, or uneven skin tone—this soft, but powerful ingredient, will return your complexion to its radiant, clear look.
Benfits of Using Brightening Serum
This advanced lightweight serum offers oil-free hydration for all skin types and works to detoxify and clarify using Manjistha, a botanical brightener that has been noted for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The Indian gooseberry, or Amla, really does wonders for your skin, just like its literal meaning when translated—it can help your stubborn, leathery skin to be renewed and rejuvenated in just a snap with this rich antioxidant fruit. It is created with red algae from Spain and has Alpha Arbutin for an uneven tone, visibly rejuvenating look. So, with that kind of synergistic blend in place, you've really got true skin perfection. Get ready for your most revitalized, dazzlingly even and brightened complexion unleashed on the world.
How To Use Skin Brightening Serum
  1. Wash your face with a mild, foamy cleanser.
  2. Use a cotton pad to apply toner, carefully wiping away dirt and debris.
  3. Apply a few drops of skin brightening serum to your face and neck, gently rubbing with your fingertips.
  4. Finally, apply a noncomedogenic moisturiser.
To maintain healthy skin, follow these tips: balance skin hydration, use brightening ingredients, cleanse twice daily, apply a face mask, eat a healthy diet, and make lifestyle changes.

2024.05.17 06:30 blue_ella A guide into GLYCERIN/GLYCEROL/GLYCERINE for skin and hair

13.- 17. my journey
  1. (correction paragraph 18) Starting ratios
  1. Please know, I am a regular human, just like you. I am not a specialist, doctor, or a scientist of any kind. I have spent over 2 years in writing this (post has been in my drafts and I worked on it in my free time only.) I have talked about using glycerin and the changes I have seen on my own body many times on here and I always received comments from someone wanting more information on glycerin which is not easily available. (I think it's because of how cheap it is and how its the top ingredient in many products we use, companies don't want us to know lol.) My sources are from medical/universal research libraries that I have access to from my university. Still, research papers are very complicated to understand and takes a long time to get through the whole study so if I made a mistake in comprehending anything, please let me know. Lets begin :)
  2. This product/poly compound does have many names/spellings but I'll be sticking to glycerin. Glycerin is used in vast variety of products like medicine/wound care, food industry, hygiene products including soaps, skincare, hair care and more. Glycerin is stable, nontoxic, non irritating and hypoallergenic with mild antibacterial, antiviral, and antimicrobial effects. Because of these properties it is said that about 20% of all glycerin is used in our territory (makeup, skincare, hygiene) which is a very large portion. Glycerin is also fairly cheap so you can see it in the top 10-15% of the ingredient list (especially in products that promote hydration) or towards the bottom 25% in preventative products making it the most underrated, versatile, and affordable product all should have in their cupboards
  3. In skin/hair care, glycerin is a humectant (retaining or preserving moisture) an emollient (quality of softening or smoothing of the skin), and a thickener. Meaning a moisturizing agent that draws water to the surface of the dermis from the atmosphere or from layers deep in your skin/hair; brighten and soften the dermis and hair at the same time; thicken any liquid formulas. This said, using glycerin in low humidity or dry, hot air can result in drying out your dermis (skin) or hair shaft because it is pulling moisture deep in your dermis or hair. (Personal note: if you wish to use glycerin in locations or seasons where the air is dry, it is best to keep spritzing the area with a mist of just water, preferably distilled, or other hydration mist to prevent the glycerin pulling any to all moisture from your dermis which could result in flaky, dry skin or brassy, frizzy hair strands. I believe after immense research this is the only downside of glycerin).
  4. Glycerin has many benefits. You can look at luxury creams to affordable face wash products and chances are, you will see glycerin in it. Some skincare companies now include a directory on their website to explain what each ingredient does and benefit on the skin but I feel it is very vague and wanted to bring some science to this poly compound. Now the accredited and certified research papers I found available to me are limited on its effect on the skin of humans but are on animals with some following up on humans. I was hoping to include links and incorporate wording however it was too cruel so I will summarize.
  5. The vast amount of information available is on, if glycerin is a safe product, its effects to our (human) tissues, and possible illness/diseases scientists believed it can cause or be linked to. Like I said, I'll keep the animal testing gory out but to wrap it all up, glycerin is safe. It did not have any effect on the reproductive system for males or females and is not carcinogenic to humans. In a different study, a group of 25 human volunteers (22 male 3 female) were tested orally which resulted in no change in weight of humans if under 50 with or without diabetes, unless over 50 with diabetes history it caused some jittery behavior in one human (this experiment was conducted orally and used 3x a day.) Researchers checked the sperm of males and saw no abnormalities comparing it to when they first came in. For the females, ultrasound showed no abnormalities on their reproductive health. It should be noted, the researchers did not compare anything regarding glycerin and its effect on the thyroid but the other organs tested no abnormalities were found. I also found several studies on inhalation and applying glycerin on eyes was normal in sense nothing will happen other than some irritation that subsides, on animals. Same study then compared their findings on a group of humans and only a couple of people from the testing group reported it caused mild or moderate irritation that lasted for little while. To conclude, there are no known side effects or illness caused or linked to by usage of glycerin. Still, after immense testing it is recommended to patch test glycerin even if being allergic to glycerin is considered rare according to researchers.
  6. Glycerin was originally found from lipids of animals (animal fat) but now can be extracted from plants (vegan) like shea butter, palm oil, coconut oil and more. As of today, glycerin from oil has a high extraction rate from palm. Glycerin can also be formed synthetically through fermentation, bio-diesel or chemically created with its chemical compound ( C3H8O3; Carbon 3 Hydrogen 8 Oxygen 3) (Personal note: I am including this because when purchasing you glycerin, be sure on where and how it was extracted as you will be applying it on your dermis or hair.) Glycerin is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog your pores, but reading the different studies I believe there is a difference between lab, plant, and animal lipid created glycerin. Some prefer the animal glycerin as its more suitable to their skin type but majority of the glycerin in our market is from plants or lab. You can tell the difference of glycerin by how tacky it is. Animal glycerin is most tacky (sticky like tree sap) compared to the plant glycerin followed by lab created which only has a slight slip to it.
  7. The density of glycerin (1.26g/cm^3) is lower than the density of our skin (1.1g/cm^3) which allows glycerin to penetrate deeper than a lot of other products. Whereas hyaluronic acid (varies but avg. 1.8g/cm^3) may look to be better way to go around but both have their benefits! Glycerin is better suitable when you want your skin or scalp to hold moisture on your skin. HA is suitable if you want to lock in the moisture. But what makes them very different is the molecular level. Glycerin has a smaller molecular level than HA, which in return allows the glycerin to saturate deeper in your dermis or hair strands whereas HA sits on the top 2 layers (about). So using HA on your skin can mean it can take longer to see the visual results on your skin. That said with either or, consistency is important to unlock all the benefits either product can offer.
  8. Glycerin will hold onto the water keeping your face soft and smooth (like a newborn babies bum) for long periods of time. (On study showed if glycerin is not washed from the dermis or hair, glycerin can last upto 6 days on the area applied hydrating the top layer of skin. In this study the researchers had 3 groups, 1 controlled, 1 glycerin applied only(group1), 1 glycerin applied with misting water every 6 hours(group2) for 14 days. From control- the group had natural oil build up, group1 had dry almost chapped skin, group2 felt dry to touch, some shine-no oil, bounce on dermis.) It is not recommended to keep glycerin on for this long as glycerin can attract pollutants from settling into pores-it just sits on surface of skin.
  9. Glycerin is beneficial to all skin types, most hair types, and help aid in various skin or scalp conditions (if you have a medical condition please consult a doctor or dermatologist.) Applying glycerin consistently, will boost collagen production making brighter, even skin from healing blemishes to hyperpigmentation, aiding in the prevention of acne bacteria spreading on your dermis (help with clearing back acne) aid in healing old acne marks, clearing and hydrating pores for the prevention of black or white heads, smooth skin texture and premature aging lines. Glycerin may act as a mild natural sunscreen by protecting the skin from the sun's rays and environmental pollutants, including smog. On large open pores, because of its density, glycerin can settle into pores reducing the visual size of them and help clear out any dirt or imperfections.
  10. Glycerin is more suitable for those with dense or thicker hair and with more texture (curls.) Once again, glycerin pulls moisture from the hair shaft when no moisture is available in the atmosphere. For the scalp, glycerin can be a natural/soft treatment for dandruff or other scalp dryness. For your hair strands, mixing it with our ayurvedic hair masks or hair oil, you can condition any damaged hair strands, preventing further breakage (split ends), and adding strength to protect against harmful rays of the sun and hot tools.
  11. Remember we discussed how glycerin is a humectant, emollient, and thickener? Well, this is what many of us expect from a makeup primer. I have used a glycerin primer for when I wanted a quick everyday makeup look or when I misplaced my holy grail benefit POREfessional primer. I used it in 2 ways, One was mixing a drop of glycerin into my moisturizer or my foundation. The other was my standard rose water and glycerin spray bottle. With the rose water I did notice I had to make sure the water and glycerin was well set into my face. I use a damp sponge to press any glycerin sitting on my face deep into my pores before applying foundation to avoid any separation or caking. (If you want an airbrush look; try this method then after dabbing your face with the sponge, apply a thin, even layer of finely milled translucent powder.) Why you may ask do this extra step of dabbing? Well using glycerin in a liquid format like the rose water is also an effective makeup remover! Crazy how it can work both ways.
  12. If you pull out any micellar water you may have, the first 2 ingredients are water and glycerin followed by additives to act as mild surfactants and unwanted possible ingredients alcohol, fragrance, preservatives. Surfactant is a substance that will help the water and glycerin chemical properties mix when dissolved together. Sometimes when you let the micellar water sit you see a layer of liquid settle on top of another layer and you have to mix the two, right? The surfactant is the ingredient that leaves that oily feel on the face and I believe blends the glycerin chemical with the surfactant to create a less tacky formula. It will be different brand to brand based on how they source their glycerin and the ratios. That said, after my full beat, spraying a setting spray and all, I experimented to see how the rose wateglycerin will react with my full face of makeup if I just wanted to rehydrate my face with the same mixture. I spray till my face feels nicely hydrated, let that fully dry with help of a fan or my hands, then with a dry sponge, I lightly tap the glycerin back into my dermis and if needed, powder to set any makeup separation or fading. The only time I dealt with makeup reacting with the glycerin was when my makeup began pilling from mixing silicone and water based skincare products with foundation.
  13. From my journey: I saw some posts of users using and not having benefactual results so I'd like to inform you how I personally started using glycerin and the changes on my own skin. I remember stumbling on a random Instagram account of Farah Dhukai from Farsali using glycerin back in 2016 and I decided to copy the recipe to lighten dark skin. After following her instructions and started to use her recipes very often, it was not long before I had all family reunions turn into skincare nights. I would make custom masks for my cousins and aunts based on their skin concerns and I would receive endless compliments and discussions on how my skin as a 15 year old teenager looked amazing. It was not long until I connected the dots and started researching extensively into glycerin.
  14. At that time, I didn't even have access to these studies and research papers, many were released after 2016! I found another ayurvedic Instagram account (now deactivated) and found my first recipe for rose water and glycerin and we have been going strong ever since. I started off with about 1 cup of fresh/homemade rose water to 1 tablespoon of glycerin. I originally started using this as a toner. I suffer from acanthosis nigricans (thickedry/dark skin on back of neck, elbows, armpits, knees) I would drench a cotton pad and hold the serum onto my skin for 5 seconds before moving it. I would repeat this then go over the same parts on my skin in circular motions. After about 4-6 months I had reduced the appearance on my elbows and knees to about 90% (only small dryness patch was left) my neck still had the thickness of skin but the darkness had reduced significantly and started blending in with my natural skin. Armpits were about 40% lighter but after a year of consistent use I was very happy with my results. Now it is important to mention, skin care can only carry so much; during this time of using the toner I lost about 23 kgs which helped clear the inflammation causing the dark skin in the first place.
  15. Along with this toner I only used a light moisturizer and face wash; no SPF, facial scrubs, or actives. My skin was very clear, bright, hyperpigmentation free. Then life hit me with a ton of bricks and depression set in. I gave up skincare and my skin was terrible. Pores, pigmentation, fungal acne and stubborn blackheads on forehead and chin, extremely flaky/irritated cheeks. At this point I had been using glycerin for over 3-4 years so I upped the ratio I mix about 1:4 ratio of glycerin to rosewater now and put it in a spray bottle. I would start by double cleanse my face, use vitamin C serum and drench my face with the glycerin water before bedtime daily (about 1-2 hours before) let it settle then use my fingers to give myself a soft facial massage and help the remaining dripping water settle into my skin or slide it down my neck and chest. Then before bedtime, I splash my face with just cool water and remove the glycerin sitting on top of my skin. Gently dry my face and apply my nightly moisturizer with retinol, let that settle then spray 4x of the glycerin water again, finish with some lip mask and go to sleep.
  16. From researching and experimenting, this was best way to clear out my white/black heads. The glycerin made them soft and I did not have to include any active or harsh scrubs or facial tools to pick them out. I found mixing the vitamin C with the glycerin 2 hours before helped tremendously with my hyperpigmentation and left my face glowing and added a beautiful bounce! I now only use a soft facial scrub that was marked to be safe for daily use once a week only. In the mornings, I thoroughly wash your face with some cleanser and apply a light moisturizer and SPF. My skin has gotten significantly brighter and has the glass skin effect without using multiple actives and products. Reason I don't apply it the rosewater glycerin in morning is because we are having dry weather and my schedule is unpredictable to remember to spray a hydrating spray in between wear.
  17. For my scalp psoriasis, I used the same toner product just in different ratios and it helped significantly. Only thing about glycerin and your scalp/hair strands is you do not want to dry it out. I only kept it on for about 30 minutes before I shower. I do have thin/pin-straight hair but my ends just felt so much healthier. One research entry mentioned how glycerin was very benefactural to animals with dense fur. So if you have textured(wavy/curly) or coarse(thick) hair definitely try glycerin out on yourself! Im sure it will help your curls be more defined and healthy! Glycerin helps strengthen the hair follicles and strands to prevent breakage, leading to the illusion of faster-longer growing hair. (I have to trim my hair about 3x a year. Each time I trim about 4 inches off. Sometimes I mix the glycerin and rose water in my hair oil concoctions. I feel this allows the oil to penetrate in even deeper. The oil doesn't sit on the stands but absorbs faster which I always struggled with. It leaves my hair so soft/supple, helps my brittle ends when I'm past due for a trim or from heat damage. In the case I add the glycerin into the oil and I wish to keep the oil on longer, I spray my hair with regular distilled water only to keep the moisture constant for the glycerin so it doesn't suck the water out of the strands.
  18. Here are a couple ratios you can start to experiment with:
NOTES: If you believe glycerin and rosewater is not the combination for you, you can mix glycerin with aloe, powders/herbs, moisturizers, and more. Be sure to research the product you will be mixing with and always patch test to ensure a chemical change will not take negative effect on your skin. Reason why I mix with rosewater is because when mixing with other products, remember glycerin is also a thickener, so it can feel very heavy on the face. Whereas water dilutes it and feels comfortable to wear for all day or night.
NOTES: I know my oily and acne girls are always fighting for their life. If you try this and are struggling, keep adjusting the formula and trust the process. It may feel nothing is happening or too much is happening but if you can, stay consistent for 6 weeks before you call it quits.
NOTES: ( NSFW but IMPORTANT!) Please do not apply glycerin on or near your genitalia! Glycerin is a type of carbohydrate known as a sugar alcohol. The breakdown of glycerin with our natural bacteria will turn it into an irritant creating a risk of a yeast infection!

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well!
Recently I commented under a post about tips and tricks to improve physical appearance and it seems that a few people liked my advice, so I figured I could transform that one comment into a whole post so more people can have access to it.
I am a 26 year old Southern European girly, I have learned a few things here and there that I would I like to share with you. This is by no means a step by step guide, but rather a helping hand that can provide some support or advice. This is for everyone, younger girls and older girls, from everywhere and all walks of life. Take from this post what works for you, and leave the rest.
Small disclaimer, these are tips and tricks that have personally worked for me. I don't believe there is one way to look or feel good, rather this is more for girlies who feel a bit lost style wise and need some minor guidance. My focus is more on healthy rather than pretty, since I do believe that if you feel good on the inside, you will also feel good on the outside.
Enjoy, and please do let me know if you need any more specific advice/tips, I am happy to help!

2024.05.14 19:45 Inside_Ingenuity_676 AITAH for ruining Mother's Day for my husband's family - long story

I (38 F) have been married to my husband (41 M) for 7 years, this coming June and together for 9 years. We have two kids, twin boys, that are 5 months old. I'm going to give a long backstory so stay with me or scroll to the bottom for the TL;DR.
2 weeks before Mother's Day, I found out my husband had been cheating on me for at least 7 months. I used his phone to use the Lowe's app to order lawn chairs since it's tied to our Lowe's card and I wanted to use our rewards. While I was looking for the particular set I want, he received a Snapchat notification from a woman. I didn't even know he had Snapchat so it peaked my interest. During this time, my husband was mowing the grass.
I open the snap and it's a nude of a woman looking to be in her mid-20s with the caption "I miss you being inside of me". My jaw hit the floor. I started going through his text messages and there were no conversations there with other women except employees from his practice (he is a dermatologist) that were harmless.
I started looking through his Snapchat and I guess he deletes everything because there were no chats between him and this woman. I am not familiar with Snapchat so I Google how to use it while I'm trying to figure out if I can retrieve deleted messages. I don't want to spend all the time I have left of him mowing reading through articles so I give up. I do go through his friend's list and end up coming back to it to take a picture of with my phone.
I look through the rest of the apps on his phone and they all seem benign except this secure folder. I open it and there's a passcode. I try three or four until I figure it out (the date of our first date, ironically) and it opens. There are dozens of nude photos of at least 3 women, including the woman from Snapchat. I know it's the woman from Snapchat because she has a very distinct tattoo on her stomach. Not only are there nudes but there are 2 videos of this same woman giving him oral.
My heart felt like it was trying to come out of my chest. I started shaking and tears started flowing. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down and then grabbed my phone and started taking pictures of the evidence. I even recorded clips of the videos, I just couldn't watch them in their entirety.
I look through all the apps again and realize that maybe he has some hidden. So, I google hidden apps on android and follow the instructions. Three apps were hidden. Two messaging apps and a hook-up app called Adult friend finder. I debated even opening them because I was so scared of what I would find. But I ended up viewing them because knowing is better than not knowing for me.
He had been messaging at least 4 different women, including the video girl. He had sex with at least two of them that I found proof of. All messages made me sick but the video girl's messages were the worst and completely shattered my heart. I had to stop to go throw up because of the stress and anxiety.
Some messages that hurt me the most were: Her: "Tell me how much better my p***y is than your wife's." Him: "Wetter, tighter and infinitely better."
Her: *sends nude* "How does my body compare to your wife's?" Him: "There is no comparison baby, you are a goddess."
There were so many others but those two come to mind as the ones that made me feel the absolute worst. Remember, I just had twins 5 months ago. I am very insecure due to all of the changes that happened to my body and my c-section scar. I am also 25 pounds heavier than I was pre-pregnancy. My husband and I stopped having sex because it was so uncomfortable for me about 2 months before I gave birth, around the same time he started messaging these women coincidentally. We've only had sex about three times since they were born due to my insecurity issues and just being so exhausted caring for and breastfeeding twins every day. I also have a business and work from home around the twins' schedules so I can stay at home with them.
I take photos of everything, using my phone again like before. The earliest messages were sent 7 months ago so I know it had been going on for at least 7 months, while I was freaking pregnant with our twins. Oh, I also found out that the night after I had a c-section and while our newborn preemie twins were in the NICU, he met with video girl for a hook-up at her apartment. He told me he was going to get food and check on his office. With our twins being preemies, anything could have happened and he wouldn't have been there because he was with her. But, that wasn't a thought for him I guess.
I close out all the apps, make sure the hidden ones are hidden from his home screen and put his phone back exactly where I found it. I also make sure the snap notification was gone. I was nervous that he would find out about the snap that was opened but he didn't.
I call my best friend of over 33 years who is also my business partner. I tell him everything and have a good cry to let it all out. He helps me to collect myself and gives me some sound advice. He tells me to not tell my husband I found anything yet and to speak with a divorce lawyer as soon as possible. He said to meet with the best ones in my area so that they couldn't represent my husband. He offers me and the twins a place to stay at his home if I need time away from my husband, assuring me that his husband would love to have me there.
Over the next week, my BFF helps me take care of the twins while meet with 5 different divorce lawyers and end up hiring, in my opinion, the best. She tells me not to leave the family home so I end up not going to stay with my BFF. She starts the divorce paperwork immediately. During this time, I am doing my best to continue on like nothing is wrong. I want to make sure all of my ducks are in a row before he realizes what I know.
Fast-forward to Mother's Day. My husband makes me breakfast in bed, gives me very expensive jewelry, flowers, the works. I can't enjoy it, of course, because it feels so fake now that I know what he's been up to. I pretend to love it though.
My husband's father planned a cook out that afternoon for my husband's mother, sister (let's call her Julie), sister-in-law (let's call her Fran) and me. We all have infants under a year old so it's everyone's first Mother's day, except my MIL's of course. I told my husband that I didn't feel like going and he guilt-tripped me by saying that my FIL had a big surprise for me and he's been really looking forward giving it to me. So, I reluctantly agree. I ask if my BFF can come since his mother sadly passed away just under a year ago. He calls his dad and my FIL replies that of course he can come. My BFF agreed to come to offer me support since he knew it would be very difficult for me to be there.
I plan to act like nothing's wrong and try to enjoy the day since it's my first Mother's Day after all. I tell myself that I will focus on the twins and get cuddles from my two nieces. Julie has an 8 month old daughter and Fran (husband's brother's wife) has a 10 month old daughter. I'm also the closest to Julie out of all his family since we became friends 10 years ago and she's the one who introduced me to my husband.
We get there and everything is fine. My husband is helping his dad, brother (let's call him Chris), BIL (let's call him Roger) cook on the grill. My MIL and the women are taking turns holding the babies. My BFF took over the kitchen, finishing up all of the sides so the moms could relax. It started out to be a really good day. I kept myself from thinking of my husband's betrayal for the most part and focused on the family.
After we eat my MIL starts taking pictures of the family. I'm sitting on the couch and she tells my husband to sit beside me for the photo. He does and then she tells him to put his arm around me and jokingly says "pretend like you love her" and I lose it. I start to uncontrollably sob.
My MIL pulls me up and hugs me and my FIL comes over and joins in the hug. My BFF comes to stand right next to me. My FIL asks me what was wrong. I look at my BFF and he gives me a "tell if you want" look.
I tell them that I found out my husband has been cheating on me for at least 7 months. Julie gasps and everyone stares at my husband. He stands up and says "that's not true at all, why would you think that? You know you and the boys are my whole world." Everyone is silent, looking at me. I tell them all that I found messages, pictures, the hook-up app and even videos on his phone. My husband looks faint and sits back down. Nobody says anything for at least 2 minutes.
Finally, Julie asks my husband, while crying herself, why? My husband tells her that "I made a mistake, I only talked to the women, I never physically cheated." My BFF quickly replies, "Liar!" Julie then asks me what all I found. I tell them everything, the nudes, the videos of my husband receiving oral, the messages and even tell them what those horrible messages said about me. He continues to deny it! I pull up a few message photos and show them to Julie, my MIL and FIL. My husband tries to gaslight me by saying that he admitted to talking to other women but he never slept with any of them. I really don't want to show them the video but I do find a few messages where my husband and a woman talked about their previous sexual encounters. My husband again says that he admitted to talking to them but never really cheated. He literally says "if the message talks about sex it was just role playing."
Roger (Julie's husband) goes over to my husband and jerks his phone out of his hand. My husband tries to get it back but Roger is 6'7 and my husband is 6'1 so he just holds it up where my husband can't reach. He asks me what his passcode is and I tell him. He then asks me where to find things and as I start to tell him my husband grabs his phone back.
At this point my MIL, Julie and Fran are all crying. Chris starts getting upset with me. He tells me this was not the time nor place to bring this all up and that I ruined Julie and Fran's first Mother's Day. Julie speaks up and says no, my husband is the one who ruined it. Chris starts yelling and saying that our personal business needs to stay private and that I had no right to bring it up to his family and ruin the only first mother's day the women will get. Fran agrees with him and tells me I'm definitely in the wrong for bringing it up, if it even is true.
At this point both of my twins start crying. I am not going to breastfeed them there and I want to get out of that house as quick as possible. I ask my BFF to take me home and we transfer the car seats from my husband's vehicle into his. My MIL follows me outside and says that Chris was right, I should have kept it all to myself and that now future Mother's Days will be a reminder of this fiasco for everyone. I just ignore her and put the twins in the car. My husband comes outside and asks if we can please talk. I tell him no, get in the car and my BFF, the twins and I leave. I end up feeling horrible and guilty that I let it all out to everyone.
My husband didn't come home and ended up staying at his parents house and has been there the past two nights. He got my FIL to come over Sunday evening and pick up clothes, toiletries, work stuff and various other items. While he was here I asked him, did I ruin Mother's Day? He tells me no that my husband did. He said that he asked me what was wrong and I was honest. He said he understood now why the "pretend like you love her" comment caused me to breakdown. I asked him about my MIL, Chris and Fran since I know Julie and Roger aren't mad at me. He said that they are still angry with me but they will eventually get over it.
TL;DR - I found out my husband had been cheating on me for at least 7 months with multiple women, starting while I was pregnant with our twins and continuing after I gave birth. I didn't tell him I knew for 2 weeks. At a Mother's Day cookout that his family hosted for his mother, me, his sister and sister-in-law, his mother made a comment that made me break down. I ended up telling everyone about the infidelity. His brother, SIL, and mother told me I ruined his sister and SIL's first Mother's Day. and that I shouldn't have said anything about the affairs.
Am I the AH?

2024.05.13 23:48 highvoltagecat On the road to dx, but can’t make it thru 3 weeks of gluten!

Hello celiac!
tldr: my doc has referred me to get tested for celiac and I am really struggling to get through the three weeks of gluten eating, after being GF for 15 years.
On day 7 all my joints started to ache. On day 10 I got hives, which worsened each day. Today I’ve stopped eating gluten and it’s still a nightmare. Did anyone go thru this on their way to getting a diagnosis? Is there any other way? Does anyone know from experience whether a dermatologist testing the skin rash for dermatitis herpetiformis can serve as an alternative form of dx?
Has anyone gotten the test shy of the 3 week mark and gotten a dx, is that worth a try?
I have had all the symptoms of auto immune stuff for my whole life and I’d really love to either rule celiac out or know that it’s been this all along. But I don’t know how I can get there if I’m going to break into hives that get worse every day on day 10. My doctor’s advice is to just give up and skip it.
I’m not looking for ~medical~ advice- but I am seeking the advice of celiac people who have had the personal experience and wisdom that comes from that, as well as just words of encouragement or personal anecdotal knowledge and guidance that could inform my conversations with my doctor, going forward. How does anyone with a literal disorder that makes your body freak out when you eat gluten make it thru 6-8 weeks of eating gluten. It just seems batty that this is the only way, although I know from research that it is.
Thank you sincerely for your help.

2024.05.12 06:01 AutoModerator Weekly Suspected Lupus Thread - Week Of May 12, 2024

2024.05.11 22:28 WellImLate I was helping you wasn't I?

I'm at the dermatologist getting a growth looked at on my nose. I'm waiting to be called, when an older woman limps out of her appointment. She has a grumpy look on her face, but her knee clearly is having a bad day. She walks out, and then comes back into the waiting area asking if any of us parked next to her because she couldn't get into her car. No one in this office owned that vehicle so she said "I guess I have to sit and wait!" The receptionist immediately starts calling other offices in the building center and then I, trying to just be nice, say, "Ma'am I will go pull your car out for you if it will help?" She does not miss a beat and gesturing with both her hands in multiple direction that I'm way to big to help her. I looked a little shocked and then the entire waiting room looked at me for a response. Older women have commented on my size my entire life, I'm tall and heavy. Not phased yet so I say, "Ma'am I may be big but I'm willing to help. I will climb through the trunk if it will help you out." Kind of joking because we all can see her spot. I walk outside ahead of her and go to her car and ask for her keys and she says again, "See you are too big how are you going to help." Then she starts complaining about the person who parked there asking me over and over if it is my car. I ask for her key so I can back her car our and she's hesitant to give it to me. I offer her my wallet to hold while I pull her car out and she says my generation doesn't carry cash so it doesn't matter. (What!? My ids and credit cards and address are in there you idiot.) So I get the keys, pull her car around and help her in and the entire time she never said thank you or anything kind. She just kept saying, your too big to help. Even after helping.
I was the only one willing to help her and she couldn't say thank you, she has to put me down. Her car, btw was filled with her horse training equipment and we live are currently in downtown Chicago.
Long story short: even after helping, boomer was mean to the only person who offered to physically help her.

2024.05.10 20:55 Money-Example-3042 help! Accutane and zero absorption?

Hello! I am a 22-year-old man, not overweight. This is my first post on this, I apologize if it is too long and extensive. I used a translator, also apologies for the wording.
i started taking accutane in 2017 when I was 15 because of my severe acne that I had as a teenager, I had pimples on my face and back, it was definitely horrible for a teenager. On top of that, my skin was extremely oily. As an example: I used to shower every day at 7am to go to school, at 9am my skin was already very oily again. During 2017 I went to the dermatologist and was prescribed accutane 20 mg per day. I don't have much to explain, accutane saved my life, my acne disappeared completely and my oily skin was no longer oily, it was dry but without being excessively dry. I took 20mg per day from 2017 until June 2020.
The problem comes here. For some reason during June 2020, accutane stopped working. I was literally taking my daily pill and it didn't work at all. They will know that by taking accutane your skin stops producing sebum/grease/oil. But at that time in June 2020, the pill was not working for me, I could notice it immediately because my skin became oily again despite me taking accutane every day. I must clarify that absolutely nothing worked. It wasn't even that it had little effect, no! It did absolutely nothing!
Throughout the rest of 2020, as well as throughout 2021 and 2022, I went to my dermatologist to see solutions. First in 2020 he raised the dose to 40mg and then to 60mg per day since I explained that the 20mg was not working for me. Do you know what happened? Neither 40mg nor 60mg worked. My skin was still oily without any improvement. I clarify again that I literally felt nothing when taking 20, 40 or 60 mg. Not a bit of improvement. It should dry and it didn't dry my skin. There I realized that it was not a dosage problem, it was a problem of accutane in my body. For some reason the pill stopped working on my body. Until today I never knew why that happened, my hypothesis is that by taking it for so long (2017-2020) my body generated resistance to the drug, that's what I believe. I must say that my liver controls were always stable, without any problems. Because it did nothing for me despite increasing the dose, I decided to abandon accutane at the end of 2020.
Months passed and years passed. In 2021, 2022 and 2023 I did everything possible to try to solve my extremely oily skin problem. My dermatologist prescribed me everything from mild creams to stronger creams (tretinoin, adapalene), to hormonal issues (finasteride, dutasteride), I changed my diet strictly so as not to generate glucose spikes and although sebum/oil decreased, it was not too much.
In mid-2023, reading on the internet and in forums, I found a lot of information about accutane and its absorption together with a fatty medication (peanut butter, chocolate, etc.). In June 2023 my dermatologist again prescribed accutane in 20 mg. I used it along with a fatty food and to my surprise, accutane “worked”. I wrote it in “quotes” because there were two problems: 1. The combination of accutane + fatty food worked, but in my case, despite taking 20mg, it seemed like I was taking less than 10mg per pill. Evidently my absorption was low, very low, too low to be honest. 2. For some reason accutane along with fatty food was irregular. There were days it worked and days it didn't. I explain; a Monday it could work, a Tuesday too, a Wednesday it didn't work, a Thursday it didn't, a Friday it did, a Saturday it didn't, a Sunday it did. Do you understand it? I have no idea why, but there were days that it did and others that it didn't work, despite eating fatty foods.
As you can see, I tried several fatty foods and it was unstable and irregular. It is of no use that the drug is poorly absorbed and that there are days when it works and others when it doesn't. It is evident that the drug does not work as it should in my body, my theory is the same, that by taking it for so long (2017-2020) that generated resistance to the drug in my body.
During December 2023, reading in forums and on the internet, I found that Micronized Accutane was sold in the United States, India, and several other countries. Basically it is accutane but with larger particles in each pill, which allows greater absorption of the medication, without having to consume a fatty food. I am not from the United States. The only option I had to purchase micronized Accutane was in India (Sotret NF). The pharmaceutical company is big and is in several countries, it is definitely safe in that regard. I explained this to my dermatologist and she prescribed me 20 mg of micronized accutane, obviously it is more expensive but it was not a problem for me to pay for it, plus I was emotionally and physically tired due to my extremely oily skin problem. The medicine finally arrived at my house after a month. Taking the medicine for two months I can draw conclusions: 1. The medicine works. I don't have to resort to a fatty food for it to work. I literally drink water with the medicine and it works. 2. The only problem is the same as “conventional” Accutane. Although I was taking 20 mg, it seemed like it was less than 10 mg. I say this with complete confidence because there was a time (2019) when I was prescribed 10 mg and I know perfectly well what that dose felt like on my skin.
It's 2024, it's been 4 years since this problem occurred to me. Basically “conventional” accutane stopped working in June 2020. My skin became oily again and my mood declined to the point of dropping out of university in 2021 and being literally locked up at home all these 4 years. I have felt like I was in a coma, on autopilot while everyone around me grows and becomes independent. I'm not lying that my emotional and physical state plummeted, I had no social interaction in all these 4 years, the friends I had simply disappeared for them. I was locked up for 4 years because I didn't want to live "half machine" that is, I want to be me. I don't want to go to university and not be able to look my classmates in the face, I don't want to have to be full of grease/oil whether at university or in a conventional job, I don't want to have to reject friends or girls just for the sake of it. that I feel too oily to spend hours with friends or girls, you know, I don't want to wake up in a girl's bed and in the morning be a pan of oil on my face/body. Those types of thoughts were definitely what made me “abandon” social interaction. And don't get me wrong, I never thought about negative things, I have always fought to reverse this situation and regain my confidence to once and for all get back to the routine, the micronized accutane pill truly made me trust again that everything was going well to improve, I am definitely a different person now.
The point is this; In one more week I will have an appointment with a new dermatologist because, as I told you, 20 mg micronized accutane works but it is very ineffective, I practically do not notice that I am taking 20 mg, it feels as if the 20 mg were less than 10 mg. I explained that last month to my usual dermatologist. My idea was to increase the dose to obtain those 20 mg that I felt in 2017-2020, I don't know if I understand myself. My dermatologist did not agree because she said that increasing the dose is dangerous, believe me, I am clear about that, but I wonder why she did not want to agree or at least try to increase the dose slowly if she knew that I had literally been going to her medical center since 2017. According to me, She minimized my situation, believing that it wasn't that serious for me to have extremely oily skin. That's why I changed dermatologists and will have an appointment in another week.
Basically I'm going to go and explain all this stuff I wrote for you and tell you that if I go up doses of micronized accutane, I'll get the same effects/efficacy when I took accutane in 2017-2020, just when it was working properly in my body. I am confident that if I take 4-6 pills a day, I will get the same feeling as if I were taking 20 mg. That would be taking 80-120 per day. I say this with complete certainty because one day I took 60 mg of micronized accutane to see how it went. It definitely improved but my skin became oily after 8-10 hrs after bathing. I assume that if I take more than 3, I will feel the sensation of taking 20mg from 2017-2020 or at least be as close to that effectiveness/feeling.
That's my worry, that my new dermatologist won't believe what I'm going to tell him. 20 mg definitely does very little (practically nothing) for my oily skin. Today I have been taking this dose for 3 months and although I have improved, my skin feels oily after 4-5 hours after bathing to give you an idea.
What do you think? Thanks to those who took the time to read the entire text and comment or share their opinion. I insist that my problem at the beginning was acne and oily skin, I solved it but the drug stopped working in June 2020. My skin no longer has severe acne but oily skin causes me to have some pimples on my face from time to time. when, but my need is to control that oily skin that is internal, you have already seen all the products that I have tried without success.
I plan to solve this this year so that next year (2025) I can return to reality and feel part of society. Do you think I'm right about increasing the dose? Do you think it is dangerous to take 4-6 pills a day? Has anyone had a similar situation in which the medication stopped working completely? I don't mean purging, I mean not drying out their skin. I will read them. Thanks for your time.

2024.05.09 15:34 ima35yearoldwhiteman hi all! 👋 my dermatologist has finally decided to refer me for roaccutane. I have some questions before I am due to start…

I (f) am currently experiencing mild acne on my face but moderate/severe acne on my body. I visited my dermatologist today, and she said I will need to go for bloodwork, pregnancy test and then go for accutane if successful. she said this is expected to take up to a few weeks, so I have some questions before I eventually start if anyone could kindly help.
• my current skincare consists of Skinoren (20% aZa) bi-nightly and TO 7% glycolic acid on alternative nights. do I stop any of these ingredients? I was personally thinking of stopping the glycolic acid and replacing it with good ole adapalene. I was initially doing adapalene for a couple of months, but the purge was absolutely horrifying and I scarred/scabbed very badly. I was literally too terrified to continue with adapalene and I was breaking out in many areas where I don’t usually have spots (such as my stomach). however I am hearing some people saying that their purging on roaccutane didn’t happen as a result of being on a retinoid beforehand. plus if I alternate on nights with the skinoren, I would hope the purge wouldn’t be as severe?
• should I continue drinking spearmint tea? I have started doing this as I feel like my acne may be hormonal, however I have been roaccutane can harm your liver, and I have heard the same about spearmint tea.
• does anyone have any good sunscreen and moisturiser recommendations for my body? I do try to avoid sunscreens, and this is unfortunately because it gives me CC’s. even the non-comedogenic ones. however, I am going to push myself to wear more sunscreen on my body in an attempt to heal the horrible scarring on my body.
many thanks :)

2024.05.08 03:10 RuR1230 How old were you when you first got alopecia?

I’m a 37M and first noticed a small bald patch on my beard near my chin around Dec ‘23, wasn’t sure of the reason. Didn’t give it much attention until I noticed a second on the opposite side. I could tell they were getting bigger, this is when the research began. Without going to a doctor I concluded that I must have alopecia barbae. In response I started shaving every other day to so it was less noticeable. I was prepared to maintain this for however long I needed to, thinking with would eventually grow back based on what I read.
and then…
Last week while sitting on the couch I noticed what felt like a bald spot on my head. I went to the bathroom to examine, and sure enough it was a bald spot the size of quarter.. my heart dropped.. I instantly became overwhelmed with a mixed emotions. The fact that what I thought was isolated to my beard has now spread to my head. The next day I found another nickel size spot near the part of my hair, and today I found a third spot the size of a dime.
As for a suspected cause, the weekend before I noticed the first spot I had participated in my first long distance bike ride (150 miles over two days). I had only got 4hrs of sleep the night before the first day of riding since I had to be up really early and didn’t go to bed earlier enough to offset it. The first day of riding went fine, even with strong head winds and hilly terrain, until the final 5miles of 75. I hit a wall and had the hardest time having the energy and will to stay on my bike to keep going. I’m a fit person and push myself, and all the positive self talk and reassurance of being so close (“just keep moving”) was barely enough to get me to the finish line. In all the challenging workouts I’ve done I’ve never felt like that. It wasn’t even that my endurance was gone, my body was just breaking down. My heart rate dropped below 100bpm. I was out of it when I made it to our large group tent, almost disoriented. I got some food in me and caught myself falling asleep at the table. That night I got 6.5 hrs sleep, woke up and stretched throughly and got back on my bike to finish the last 78mi. I was nervous about being able to finish, but I finished. And felt fine. The next day (Monday) I noticed my face was really puffy, I weighed myself and I had gained 10lbs since Saturday. I read that water retention is normal after long rides. Being that I was loading up on pickle juice, electrolytes and celebratory beer at the end of each day I wasn’t surprised that I had retained so much. That night (Monday) is when I found the spot.
Fast forward to today… I’m nervous and sad about it. At 37 yrs old I have thick dark hair and am bracing for that to all change. I don’t know how many more spots are going to appear, how large the current spots will get, when it will stop, will it stop. I have my first dermatologist appt for it tomorrow, and scheduled an annual exam that includes blood work.
Does anyone deal with it on an ongoing basis (constantly losing hair while other spots grow back)?
What’s your experience been since you first got it to now, how frequent between flair up’s?
Do shots cause the what hair would fall out to fall out sooner before allowing for regrowth?
Thanks y’all!

2024.05.05 06:01 AutoModerator Weekly Suspected Lupus Thread - Week Of May 05, 2024

2024.05.02 16:49 miraridoctorofficial Why Does Moisturizer Burn? Understanding and Soothing Skin Irritation

As someone who has personally struggled with sensitive skin and the discomfort of lotion burn, I know firsthand how perplexing and frustrating this phenomenon can be. You reach for a moisturizer, hoping to soothe and hydrate your skin, only to be met with a stinging or burning sensation that leaves you wondering, "Why does this keep happening?" In this comprehensive guide, we'll dive deep into the world of moisturizer burn, exploring the common culprits behind this irritating reaction, and offering practical solutions to help you achieve the comfortable, hydrated skin you deserve. Together, we'll unravel the mystery of why lotion burns and equip you with the knowledge and tools to prevent and soothe future irritation.

Unmasking the Culprits: Why Does Moisturizer Burn?

Picture this: you've just applied your favorite lotion, eagerly anticipating the comforting sensation of soft, supple skin. But instead of relief, you're met with an unexpected and unwelcome burning feeling. So, what's causing this skin irritation? Let's explore some of the most common culprits behind lotion burn.

Irritating Ingredients: The Usual Suspects

One of the primary reasons moisturizers can cause a burning sensation is the presence of irritating ingredients. Many skincare products, even those marketed for sensitive skin, can contain components that trigger an adverse reaction in some individuals. Here are a few of the most common offenders:
  1. Fragrances: Whether natural or synthetic, fragrances are a leading cause of skin sensitivity and irritation. These complex mixtures of aromatic compounds can cause a stinging or burning sensation upon application, particularly for those with delicate skin.
  2. Alcohol: Certain types of alcohol, such as denatured alcohol or alcohol denat, are often used in skincare products as solvents or preservatives. While they can help a lotion feel lightweight and absorb quickly, they can also strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation.
  3. Preservatives: Preservatives are essential for preventing the growth of bacteria and extending the shelf life of skincare products. However, some preservatives, such as parabens and formaldehyde-releasing agents, can cause skin irritation and even allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
It's important to note that not everyone will react to these ingredients in the same way. What causes a burning sensation for one person may be perfectly tolerable for another. However, if you consistently experience lotion burn, it's worth taking a closer look at the ingredient list and considering products with gentler, more skin-friendly formulations.

Disrupted Skin Barrier: When Your Skin's Defenses Are Down

Another common culprit behind moisturizer burn is a compromised skin barrier. Your skin's barrier, also known as the stratum corneum, is the outermost layer of the epidermis that acts as a protective shield against external irritants and moisture loss. When this barrier is intact and functioning properly, it helps maintain skin hydration and prevents irritants from penetrating deeper into the skin.
However, various factors can disrupt the skin barrier, making it more susceptible to irritation and burning from skincare products. These include:
  1. Dryness: When the skin is excessively dry, it can develop tiny cracks and fissures that allow irritants to penetrate more easily. This can lead to a stinging or burning sensation when applying moisturizer.
  2. Over-exfoliation: While gentle exfoliation can be beneficial for removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover, overdoing it can strip away the skin's protective barrier, leaving it vulnerable to irritation.
  3. Skin conditions: Certain skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis, and rosacea, can compromise the skin barrier and increase sensitivity to skincare products.
If you suspect that a weakened skin barrier may be contributing to your lotion burn, focus on gentle, nourishing skincare practices that support barrier repair. Look for moisturizers with ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide, which can help strengthen and restore the skin's protective barrier over time.

Skin Allergies: When Your Immune System Overreacts

In some cases, moisturizer burn may be a sign of an allergic reaction to a specific ingredient in the product. When your immune system identifies a particular substance as a threat, it can trigger an inflammatory response, leading to redness, itching, and a burning sensation.
Common skincare ingredients that can cause allergic reactions include:
  1. Botanical extracts: While natural ingredients like lavender, tea tree oil, and chamomile are often touted for their soothing properties, they can also be potential allergens for some individuals.
  2. Propylene glycol: This ingredient is a common humectant used in skincare products to help attract and retain moisture. However, it can cause allergic contact dermatitis in some people.
  3. Lanolin: Derived from sheep's wool, lanolin is often used as an emollient in moisturizers and other skincare products. While it can be highly effective at softening and protecting the skin, it can also trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
If you suspect that an allergic reaction may be behind your lotion burn, it's essential to identify the specific ingredient causing the issue. A patch test, where a small amount of the product is applied to a discrete area of skin and observed for signs of irritation, can be a helpful tool in pinpointing potential allergens. If you experience a burning or itching sensation during the patch test, discontinue use of the product and consult with a dermatologist for further guidance.

Can Fragrance-Free Lotions Still Cause Burning?

It's a common misconception that fragrance-free lotions are automatically gentle and safe for sensitive skin. While opting for fragrance-free products can certainly reduce the risk of irritation, it's important to remember that other ingredients in the formulation can still cause a burning sensation for some individuals.
Even fragrance-free lotions can contain potential irritants like alcohol, preservatives, or botanical extracts that may trigger a reaction in sensitive skin. Additionally, some products labeled as "unscented" may still contain masking fragrances that can cause irritation.
When selecting a moisturizer, it's essential to look beyond the "fragrance-free" label and examine the full ingredient list. Opt for products with minimal, gentle ingredients that are specifically formulated for sensitive skin. If you're unsure about a particular ingredient, don't hesitate to do some research or consult with a skincare professional for personalized recommendations.

Recognizing the Signs: Symptoms of Lotion Burn

Now that we've explored some of the primary causes of lotion burn, let's take a closer look at how to recognize the signs and symptoms of this skin irritation. By familiarizing yourself with the telltale indicators of moisturizer burn, you can quickly identify when a product isn't agreeing with your skin and take steps to soothe and heal the affected area.

Burning Sensation: The Unmistakable Feeling of Fire

The most obvious and immediate sign of lotion burn is, of course, a burning sensation on the skin where the product was applied. This feeling can range from a mild, tingly discomfort to a more intense, painful burning that persists for several minutes after application.
It's important to note that a slight tingling sensation when applying certain skincare products, particularly those containing active ingredients like retinol or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), is not necessarily cause for alarm. However, if the burning feeling is severe, prolonged, or accompanied by other symptoms, it's a clear sign that your skin is not tolerating the product well.

Redness and Inflammation: The Visible Signs of Irritation

In addition to the physical sensation of burning, lotion burn can also manifest as visible redness and inflammation on the skin. The affected area may appear flushed, blotchy, or even swollen, depending on the severity of the reaction.
This redness is a result of increased blood flow to the area as your body's immune system responds to the perceived threat of the irritating substance. The inflammation is a sign that your skin's barrier has been compromised and is working to repair itself.
If you notice significant redness or inflammation after applying a moisturizer, it's best to discontinue use of the product and allow your skin time to heal. Continuing to apply the offending lotion will likely only exacerbate the irritation and prolong the healing process.

Itching: The Urge to Scratch

Another common symptom of lotion burn is itching or a prickly sensation on the affected area. This itching can range from mildly annoying to intensely distracting, making it difficult to focus on anything else.
The urge to scratch can be particularly strong, but it's important to resist this temptation as much as possible. Scratching can further damage the skin's barrier, increasing the risk of infection and prolonging the healing process. Instead, try applying a cool compress or using gentle, soothing skincare products to help alleviate the itching.
If the itching persists or becomes unbearable, it may be a sign of a more severe allergic reaction. In this case, it's important to consult with a dermatologist or healthcare professional for proper treatment and guidance.

Rare but Serious: Blistering and Swelling

In rare cases, lotion burn can lead to more severe symptoms like blistering or significant swelling of the affected area. These symptoms are often indicative of a more serious allergic reaction or chemical burn and require immediate medical attention.
If you experience blistering, oozing, or extreme swelling after applying a skincare product, discontinue use immediately and contact your healthcare provider. They can assess the severity of the reaction and recommend appropriate treatment, which may include oral antihistamines, topical corticosteroids, or other medications to manage symptoms and promote healing.
It's important to take these severe symptoms seriously and seek professional help promptly. Delaying treatment can lead to more extensive damage to the skin and increase the risk of complications like infection or scarring.

Soothing the Sting: How to Treat Lotion Burn

If you find yourself experiencing the telltale signs of lotion burn, don't panic. While the stinging, redness, and itching can be uncomfortable and frustrating, there are several steps you can take to soothe your skin and promote healing. Here's a step-by-step guide to treating moisturizer burn and finding relief:

Step 1: Discontinue Use of the Offending Product

The first and most crucial step in treating lotion burn is to stop using the product that caused the reaction. Continuing to apply the irritating substance will only exacerbate your symptoms and prolong the healing process.
If you're unsure which product is causing the issue, take a break from all skincare products until your skin has had a chance to calm down and recover. Once your symptoms have subsided, you can slowly reintroduce products one at a time to identify the culprit.

Step 2: Gently Cleanse the Affected Area

After discontinuing use of the irritating product, it's important to gently cleanse the affected area to remove any remaining traces of the substance. Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water to avoid further irritating your already sensitive skin.
Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the area too harshly, as this can cause additional damage to the skin's barrier. Instead, use your fingertips to gently massage the cleanser into your skin, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Step 3: Apply a Cool Compress

To help soothe the burning sensation and reduce inflammation, apply a cool compress to the affected area. You can create a simple compress by soaking a clean, soft cloth in cool water and gently placing it on your skin for 10-15 minutes at a time.
The cool temperature will help constrict blood vessels, reducing redness and swelling. It can also provide a numbing effect, helping to alleviate the stinging or itching sensation associated with lotion burn.
Be sure to use a fresh, clean cloth each time you apply the compress to avoid introducing bacteria to your already vulnerable skin. Repeat this process several times throughout the day to help soothe your symptoms and promote healing.

Step 4: Reach for a Gentle, Fragrance-Free Moisturizer

Once the initial burning and inflammation have subsided, it's important to replenish your skin's moisture levels to support the healing process. Look for a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer specifically formulated for sensitive skin.
Ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, and oatmeal can be particularly soothing for irritated skin. These natural ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties that can help calm redness and itching while providing much-needed hydration.
When applying the moisturizer, use a light, patting motion rather than rubbing or massaging the product into your skin. This gentle application technique will help minimize further irritation and allow your skin to absorb the nourishing ingredients more effectively.

Step 5: Give Your Skin Time to Heal

Perhaps the most important step in treating lotion burn is simply giving your skin time to heal. Avoid the temptation to try new products or resume your regular skincare routine too quickly, as this can further irritate your already sensitive skin.
Instead, focus on keeping your skincare routine as simple and gentle as possible while your skin recovers. Stick to mild, fragrance-free cleansers and moisturizers, and avoid any products containing potential irritants like alcohol, fragrances, or exfoliating acids.
Be patient with the healing process, as it may take several days or even weeks for your skin to fully recover, depending on the severity of the reaction. If your symptoms persist or worsen despite following these treatment steps, don't hesitate to consult with a dermatologist for personalized guidance and care.

Preventing the Burn: Tips for Avoiding Lotion Irritation

While knowing how to treat lotion burn is essential, preventing this uncomfortable reaction in the first place is always the best approach. By taking a few simple precautions and being mindful of your skincare choices, you can significantly reduce your risk of experiencing moisturizer burn and keep your skin happy, healthy, and irritation-free.

Tip 1: Always Perform a Patch Test

One of the most effective ways to prevent lotion burn is to always perform a patch test before incorporating a new product into your skincare routine. A patch test involves applying a small amount of the product to a discrete area of skin, typically on the inside of your wrist or behind your ear, and waiting 24-48 hours to observe any signs of irritation.
If you experience any redness, itching, or burning during the patch test, it's a clear sign that the product is not suitable for your skin, and you should avoid using it on your face or larger areas of your body. While patch testing may seem like an extra step, it can save you from the discomfort and frustration of a full-blown lotion burn reaction.

Tip 2: Opt for Fragrance-Free and Hypoallergenic Formulas

When selecting a moisturizer or any skincare product, always opt for fragrance-free and hypoallergenic formulas, especially if you have sensitive skin. Fragrances, whether natural or synthetic, are one of the most common causes of skin irritation and can trigger allergic reactions in some individuals.
Hypoallergenic products are specifically formulated to minimize the risk of allergic reactions and are often free from common irritants like fragrances, dyes, and certain preservatives. While no product can be guaranteed to be completely allergen-free, choosing hypoallergenic options can significantly reduce your risk of experiencing lotion burn.
When in doubt, always check the ingredient list and look for products with minimal, gentle ingredients that are well-tolerated by sensitive skin. If you're unsure about a particular ingredient, don't hesitate to research or consult with a skincare professional for guidance.

Tip 3: Look for Soothing, Nourishing Ingredients

In addition to avoiding potential irritants, seeking out moisturizers with soothing, nourishing ingredients can help prevent lotion burn and support healthy, resilient skin. Look for products containing ingredients like:
  1. Aloe vera: Known for its anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties, aloe vera can help calm irritated skin and reduce redness and itching.
  2. Chamomile: This natural ingredient has been used for centuries to soothe and calm the skin, thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
  3. Oatmeal: Colloidal oatmeal, a finely ground form of oats, has been shown to help relieve dry, itchy skin and reduce inflammation, making it an excellent choice for sensitive skin.
  4. Ceramides: These lipid molecules are naturally found in the skin's natural barrier and help maintain its integrity, preventing moisture loss and protecting against irritants.
  5. Niacinamide: Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide has been shown to improve the skin's barrier function, reduce inflammation, and soothe irritated skin, making it an excellent choice for those prone to lotion burn.
By incorporating these nourishing ingredients into your skincare routine, you can help strengthen your skin's natural defenses and reduce the likelihood of experiencing moisturizer burn in the future.

Tip 4: Be Mindful of Your Environment and Lifestyle

In addition to your skincare choices, your environment and lifestyle habits can also play a role in preventing lotion burn. Here are a few factors to keep in mind:
  1. Hot showers: While a steamy shower may feel relaxing, hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils and disrupt the skin's barrier, making it more susceptible to irritation. Try to keep your showers lukewarm and limit them to 10 minutes or less.
  2. Harsh soaps: Like hot water, harsh soaps and detergents can also strip the skin of its natural oils and cause irritation. Opt for gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and avoid using harsh scrubs or exfoliants on sensitive skin.
  3. Sun exposure: Excessive sun exposure can damage the skin's barrier and increase sensitivity, making it more prone to lotion burn. Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and seek shade during peak sun hours.
  4. Stress: Chronic stress can weaken the skin's barrier and increase inflammation, making it more susceptible to irritation. Incorporate stress-reducing practices like meditation, deep breathing, or yoga into your daily routine to help support healthy, resilient skin.
By being mindful of these environmental and lifestyle factors, you can create a more supportive environment for your skin and reduce the risk of experiencing moisturizer burn.

When to See a Doctor: Seeking Professional Guidance

While most cases of lotion burn can be managed at home with gentle skincare and a few simple precautions, there are times when seeking professional medical guidance is necessary. If you experience any of the following symptoms, it's important to consult with a dermatologist or healthcare provider:
  1. Severe or persistent symptoms: If your burning, itching, or redness is severe or persists for more than a few days despite home treatment, it's time to seek professional help. Your doctor can assess the severity of your reaction and recommend appropriate treatment options.
  2. Blistering or oozing: If you develop blisters, oozing, or open sores on the affected area, this may be a sign of a more serious allergic reaction or infection. Seek medical attention promptly to prevent complications and ensure proper healing.
  3. Spread of symptoms: If your lotion burn symptoms begin to spread beyond the initial area of application or affect other parts of your body, it's important to consult with a doctor. This may indicate a more systemic reaction that requires specialized treatment.
  4. Recurrent reactions: If you find yourself experiencing lotion burn frequently, even with gentle, fragrance-free products, it's worth discussing your symptoms with a dermatologist. They can help identify any underlying skin conditions or sensitivities that may be contributing to your reactions and develop a personalized treatment plan.
Remember, your dermatologist is your partner in maintaining healthy, comfortable skin. Don't hesitate to reach out for professional guidance and support whenever you have concerns about your skin's health or reactions to skincare products.

Beyond Lotion Burn: Understanding Skin Sensitivity

While lotion burn can be a frustrating and uncomfortable experience, it's important to remember that it's often a sign of a larger issue: skin sensitivity. By understanding the factors that contribute to sensitive skin and taking steps to support your skin's natural defenses, you can not only reduce your risk of moisturizer burn but also promote healthier, more resilient skin overall.
Some common signs of sensitive skin include:
  1. Frequent reactions: If you find that your skin often reacts to skincare products, cosmetics, or environmental factors with redness, itching, or burning, this may be a sign of sensitive skin.
  2. Dryness and flakiness: Sensitive skin is often prone to dryness and flakiness, as the skin's barrier function may be compromised, leading to increased moisture loss.
  3. Visible blood vessels: If you can see small blood vessels under your skin, particularly on your cheeks or nose, this may be a sign of sensitive skin or conditions like rosacea.
  4. Prone to eczema or dermatitis: Sensitive skin is often more prone to inflammatory skin conditions like eczema or dermatitis, which can cause redness, itching, and flaking.
If you suspect that you have sensitive skin, it's important to adopt a gentle, nourishing skincare routine that focuses on supporting the skin's natural barrier function. This may involve:
  1. Using gentle, fragrance-free products: As we've discussed, opting for gentle, fragrance-free skincare products can help minimize the risk of irritation and lotion burn.
  2. Avoiding harsh treatments: Harsh treatments like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or aggressive exfoliation can further sensitize the skin and compromise its barrier function. If you have sensitive skin, it's best to avoid these treatments or consult with a dermatologist before proceeding.
  3. Protecting your skin from the elements: Protecting your skin from harsh environmental factors like sun exposure, wind, and extreme temperatures can help reduce sensitivity and prevent irritation. Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen and consider using physical barriers like hats or scarves in harsh conditions.
  4. Nourishing your skin from the inside out: In addition to topical skincare, nourishing your skin from the inside out can help support its overall health and resilience. This may involve staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, and managing stress through practices like meditation or exercise.
By taking a holistic approach to skincare and being mindful of your skin's unique needs and sensitivities, you can help prevent lotion burn and promote healthier, more comfortable skin overall.

FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions About Lotion Burn

What if my skin burns after using a moisturizer I've used before?

It's possible that the ingredients in your moisturizer have changed, or that your skin's sensitivity has fluctuated over time. If you experience burning or irritation from a product you've used before, discontinue use and consider performing a patch test before reintroducing it to your routine. If symptoms persist, it may be time to switch to a gentler, fragrance-free formula.

2024.05.02 00:17 rosecoredarling Electrolysis scars... more dysphoric than I was before (Possible TW)

I did laser on my face since last July, one session a month. Around January the lady at the salon I was doing it at told asked me if there were any changes between sessions, I was honest and said no (I have really thick black facial hair, it didn't even feel any thinner).
She said okay, laser's not gonna work then and we should just move on to electrolysis since it's permanent. I was really happy to hear it because I'd been wanting electrolysis for forever. I did about 7 sessions, about 2 days between each one, and then she went on vacation for about a week after.
The state of my chin during the days after the treatment was ABYSMAL. Even using the anti-burn/scarring cream she recommended me it was constantly leaking out pus, my skin felt rock-hard on the surface... it looked really bad. I decided I was gonna give it a break to heal and maybe seek out a different place to do it.
Well, it's May now, and my chin + the sides of my lips (where she did electrolysis) seems to be scarred. There's a TON of little dips in the skin and it's really noticeable to me. It was supposed to help me with my facial hair dysphoria and instead I feel WAY more dysphoric, the scars draw my eye more than the beard shadow does.
This is a vent but if anyone's genuinely encountered this in themselves and others and knows what to do, I'd appreciate any advice. I don't want to go to a dermatologist and be told "sorry, you're stuck like this". I don't know what I'll do if I hear that my face is just fucked up, the face I already hate and want to have ffs on. I feel really really desperate.

2024.04.30 23:50 Known_Somewhere_9490 Research years--an attending perspective

Hello,
I am an attending at a top derm program. I want to give you some practical advice about research years.
  1. Research years can help your application. If you have a borderline application, having a productive research year with quality letters and papers does make you stand out. If you have red flags, a research year will not help (i.e. disciplinary issues, course failures, really low step score).
  2. If you come from a low-tier med school, you will probably not match at a top-tier program (even if you have an amazing research year). This is a brutal reality, but it is true. When I read comments from med students, there seems to be anger directed at programs that don't match their fellows. The reality is that the top-tier programs get the best candidates. These candidates have impeccable pedigrees, life stories, boards scores, and LORs. Your research year is not going to surpass this. Yes, there are exceptions, but they are uncommon.
  3. Make sure you get to know all the residents. The biggest cheerleaders for applicants are the residents. If the residents like you, when it comes time to rank candidates, they will let us know.
  4. You get what you give. Research years can be highly productive or a waste of time. Be prepared to work hard and get projects across the finish line. If you mentor isn't giving you enough work, politely ask them if you can reach out to other faculty to get projects going.
  5. Be careful about doing a research year with someone who takes more than one fellow. When I read residency applications, if a specific physician writes an LOR for more than one candidate, I can compare them. Invariably, one letter will be stronger than another, and if I must whittle down a stack of applications, the person with the weaker LOR gets the axe.
  6. Take Step 2 before your research year. With the growing importance of Step 2, please take it after you finish your third year. It is an absolute waste to have an amazing research year and then bomb step 2 because you took it a year later that you should have.

A few other general pearls
  1. The best training programs have a university, VA, and county hospital clinic
  2. In the real world, where you did your residency matters a lot less than you think
  3. Pediatric dermatologists are BRUTAL. If you think you are interested in peds derm, you must be 100% committed on your application and during your interview. If you want to go an extra-mile, apply to peds prelim years, and make sure derm programs know this. Peds derm faculty are often skeptical of applicants who want to go into their field; if you can convince them that you are legit, they will support you. However, if they suspect you are faking an interest in their field to boost your application, they will be the first to shoot you down. The single greatest mistake you can make in your application is faking an interest in peds derm; don't do it!
  4. Too many applicants are interested in rheum-derm/CTCL/HS/onco-derm. If you want to standout, emphasize an interest in something different, such as vulvar, acne/rosacea, nails, patch testing, urticaria, psoriasis.

I’m annoyed. Skin care is making things worse?
Arrrgh. I’m just SO annoyed. Here I am, trying my hardest to establish a good, healthy, workable skincare routine, and my stupid face just keeps getting worse and worse. The cute hairs all over my chin and upper lip? Thanks Mexican genes and diabetes!
Acne? Check. Stupid tiny bumps all over my forehead? Check. Acne scars that won’t go away? Check. Redness? Check. Scaly patches? Check. A freaking Rudolph the red nosed reindeer nose!? CHECK. Hive? Sometimes.
I had NONE of this before I started trying to take care of my skin. Maybe one acne spot a month. Maybe. Now, I’ve got three bad ones and I can feel more coming up.
My nose annoys me to no end. It’s bright red all the time. And shiny with tight skin. It’s not oily at all, but just bright, tight skin.
I’m literally scaled back to moisturizer and cleanser (Vanicream gentle for both and Vanicream facial moisturizer with SPF for daytime), and it doesn’t seem to be improving. In fact, the tiny bumps on my forehead are getting worse. And I really hate how stuck the Vanicream cream is for nighttime.
I’m going to try Tretinion again. I tried it once before for 4+ weeks with no change, and gave up. So, might as well give it another shot I guess? I have an entire drawer filled with cleansers, oils, creams, and serums that either break me out or do nothing.
I’m trying to get in with a dermatologist, but my current appointment is in October. Greaaaat.
I have an appointment with an allergist finally next week (been waiting since Jan). I’m hoping they can do patch testing on top of the regular allergy testing. Maybe I’ll get some answers on the hives at least and can avoid certain ingredients. At this point, I’m ready to go to single-ingredient products and basically hack together a routine from that.
I don’t really have a point here. I’m just yelling into the void. Hoping someone can commiserate. Actually, I really hope no one can commiserate. It’s miserable trying to do the right thing for your health and all it does is hork things up.
Good vibes and great skin to everyone! ✌️💕🤷🏻‍♀️

Aquaphor Lip Repair: A Drugstore Hero for Dry, Cracked Lips
Are you tired of dry, flaky, and even bleeding lips? Does the thought of winter make you shudder, knowing the chapped lips are just around the corner?
If so, you’re not alone. But fret no more, fellow lip balm enthusiasts! Today, we’re diving deep into a cult-favorite lip savior: Aquaphor Lip Repair.

Why This Review Matters

We understand the struggle of finding the perfect lip balm. With countless options on the market, it can be overwhelming. That’s why we put Aquaphor Lip Repair to the test.
We received a complimentary sample from the brand and conducted a thorough review, considering everything from its ingredients and feel to the all-important results.

Dermatologist-Recommended Hero

Aquaphor isn’t new to the skincare scene. In fact, it’s the #1 dermatologist-recommended brand for dry, cracked skin and minor wound care [insert brand claim source]. Their focus? Intensely moisturizing and reparative products that are fragrance-free and clinically tested.

A Look at the Ingredients

Aquaphor Lip Repair takes a science-backed approach to lip care. Here’s a breakdown of the key ingredients and their benefits:
  • Petrolatum: This locks in moisture and creates a protective barrier against the elements.
  • Shea Butter: A natural anti-inflammatory and moisturizer that keeps lips soft and supple.
  • Vitamins C, E, and Provitamin B5: This trio nourishes lips and promotes healing.
  • Chamomile Essence: Soothes irritation and redness.

Perfect for Parched Lips

Let’s face it, some of us are just prone to dry lips. No matter the season, a swipe of lip balm is our daily ritual. If this sounds familiar, then Aquaphor Lip Repair might be your new holy grail. Here’s why:
  • Targets Dryness: This balm is formulated specifically for dry and severely dry lips.
  • Soothes and Heals: It boasts a blend of nourishing ingredients like shea butter, vitamins C and E, and provitamin B5, along with calming chamomile essence.
  • Long-lasting Moisture: The petrolatum base helps prevent moisture loss, keeping your lips hydrated for hours.

The Feel and Application

Unlike the original Aquaphor Healing Ointment that comes in a tub, Lip Repair comes in a convenient squeeze tube. This allows for mess-free application and ensures you get the perfect amount of product every time.
The formula itself has a slightly waxy texture due to the shea butter, but it’s still incredibly nourishing and glides on smoothly.

Kiss Dryness Goodbye: The Results

This is where Aquaphor Lip Repair truly shines. After applying in the morning, our lips stayed smooth and hydrated all day, even during harsh winter conditions. A generous coat before bed keeps lips feeling soft and supple throughout the night.

Who Might Want to Look Elsewhere?

While Aquaphor Lip Repair is a champion for dry lips, it might not be the best choice for everyone. If you don’t suffer from extreme dryness and prefer a lightweight balm, you might want to explore other options.
Additionally, while it can work with lipstick, it’s not ideal for those who prioritize long-lasting lip color application.

Similar Products: Your Balm Buffet

The beauty world offers a variety of lip balms. Here are a few alternatives to consider:
  • For Deep Hydration: Avène Cicalfate LIPS Restorative Lip Cream is a water-based balm packed with mineral spring water and zinc sulfate for deep healing.
  • On-the-Go Stick: If you prefer a stick applicator, Aquaphor also offers a Lip Repair Stick with the same nourishing formula.
  • Lightweight Option: SheGlam Nourishing Lip Balm is a great choice for those who want a lightweight, non-greasy balm.

The Final Verdict: A Must-Have for Dry Lips

Aquaphor Lip Repair, along with its other lip care products, has earned its cult status for a reason. It’s a reliable, effective balm that delivers long-lasting moisture at an unbeatable price.
So, if you’re constantly battling dry, chapped lips, head to your nearest drugstore and give Aquaphor Lip Repair a try. It might just be your new lip care BFF.

2024.04.28 06:01 AutoModerator Weekly Suspected Lupus Thread - Week Of April 28, 2024

2024.04.26 23:14 BeingBalanced 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Wash on Scalp Without Bleaching Hair? Panoxyl?

I have moderate sporadic Folliculitis on my scalp and sometime beard area if I'm not shaving regularly. I've kept it from getting out of control using Hibiclens in the scalp in the shower (careful not to let it run onto face/eyes/ears/mouth - it's toxic) but it can possibly build bacteria resistance. A message of 10% tea tree oil spray (which is a pretty high concentration) after the shower also helps. (The combination though makes scalp and hair dry so need to use conditioner.)
I've spread it to my beard area now which I was only shaving every 3-4 days to camouflage the breakouts. The Salicylic Acid cream works good for making the scalp or beard lesions empty out and crust over which isn't a big deal on scalp where you can't see them but unsightly on the face.
The only thing I haven't used is Benzoyl Peroxide Wash. The posts here and tens of thousands of reviews on Amazon are incredibly consistently good. I'm pretty sure I just need to switch products and go with a less harsh combination of treatments to give my skin a chance to heal and balance out to be less prone to outbreaks with no "good" bacteria left on my skin (which supposedly Benzoyl Peroxide doesn't kill the good bacteria like Hibiclens does.)
I've seen conflicting reports whether the Panoxyl 10% BP Wash can be used on your scalp without bleaching your hair a bit? Some use it on scalp others say it can turn your hair orange. Maybe it has to do with how long you leave it in? I'm part grey anyway so worse case I get out my men's hair coloring if I do an "oopsy." Also any other tips of those that have trodden this path are appreciated.
This Dr. had some good info but doesn't answer my question:
