[EVENT] Leave Them Hanging On The Line

2024.05.22 02:18 8th_Hurdle [EVENT] Leave Them Hanging On The Line

29th January 1967;
Port Arthur, SCS;
{Following our meeting last December…}
Through the battered streets, swept by the wailing winds of the storms of deep January, there was still the wail of protesters, fighting ever more closely, delivering punches in each other’s doorways. Port Arthur’s namesake, the port on the Lake called Superior, was the gateway through which one accessed the wider world from the SCS, and that fact was not lost upon particularly the MLS. It was no wonder they took the city to be so important - it was the most foreign city of the lot, so they had to override the population’s prior nationalities in order to advance their cause.
What nationality did not live within the city? The borders of the SCS had been closed off in 1952, but the prior torrent had already brought in every culture by then. There were the Scots, the Welsh, the Irish, the English, the French, the Norwegians, the Danish, the Finnish, the New Englanders, the Quebecois, the Maritimers, the many others, the world inside a city. For all that Sault was Canadian and that Fort William was Serene, Port Arthur was the city that held every other flavour of the (Northern Atlantic) world. As Gloria walked along the tarmac between the rows of housing, cheaply-erected to house the many, she did not feel a stranger one bit.
She had not a similar feeling since she had left the town of Stoke to the rising waters.
Even so, the few that were the protesters did their best to attract her, to whistle and to call out at her, because she was a woman and alone on the streets, with Mark typing frantically to his friend across the lake, as he tried to convey what he knew onwards towards the armed forces. That friend had his own mates, in higher places, and they had met a while ago. By now, he sulked by the St Mary’s, carrying his heavy loads, and Sault was a good place to sulk. All Mark had to confirm was that he was still in Sault, and not attracted by the offers of guaranteed accommodation and tax rebates if he decided to live and farm in the countryside. He just needed to know.
In the meantime, Gloria needed to seek out Lee, and to get through the city, walking was what was needed, and that was Mark’s idea which Gloria agreed with.
Thus, she trudged through the storms and the gales onwards into the docklands, to find her man. Well, finding the docklands was easy enough, since the high chain-fence was obvious enough with its notices in government typeface. Walking around far enough to the south allowed Gloria to find her entrance, and to find a helpful woman, one who worked at the front. She held all the keys, and all of the telephone wires, and, upon a quick one-button check of the video-monitoring system to Lee’s desk that showed him reading a book, the all-clear was given. “William is free to talk, I assume this will be on personal matters? I’ll give permission, it’s too stormy to do much more than read books anyway, he won’t get much. I’ll get someone to escort you.”
“Oh Lee, thank you ever so much. Mark and I are in Longuelac, but we’re staying in Port Arthur for the time being whilst he finds more work.”
“Ah cheers. Interesting that you’re here for work, didn’t know about the MLS and MS protests here, yep? Tis horrendous, but ah well, I live close enough to docks that they don’t hit me, all’s fine round these parts. Longuelac is a place for sure, that also work?” asked Lee rhetorically, drawing in all the information he required.
“Yes, all just work and money. I just want to live near our work rather than him use our money on fuel on his car just to get him to work. He thinks we only get higher-paying jobs just because of that car. I can’t see why a motorcycle wouldn’t work either, but maybe it’s storms like today that do it,” stated Gloria towards Lee, whom she knew wanted to draw in more of that lovely information.
“So… so… you like the Monde Suffit then? They have their 13-minute-city idea or whatever, it’s about reducing distance to workplaces, by putting work right near the homes. It’s stuff like that which the MS like, but then you’re with Mark, yep?” suggested Lee, putting the pieces together.
“Mark wants to set up a rival for the MS, but upon similar principles, because Gatley and Hyhurst are being too idealistic and that won’t get stuff right. But his idea is… uhm…” tailed off Gloria.
“Still taking shape, yep? Well, look, I have a bit about Matias, so say that to Mark when he opens… this letter. It’ll have a bit more, and you can do more with it. I’m with Mark, because he met myself on the Samaria. He’ll do it, I’m sure.”
“You think, Lee?”
“I do think Gloria, thank you very much. He knows too much. I bet you every organisation wants him. What’s more they want him gone. Now, that’s all I have. Brave the weather, it’ll be better in a few hours once the morning’s over.”
“Thank you.”
“Oh, and good luck. It’s not like Mark’d need it, but you will, just in dodging the protesters.”

If you live on/near Lynx Crescent N. and you own this female grey tabby named Sammy... you should be ashamed of yourselves
I don't usually make posts like this, but this situation really upsets me.
tldr at bottom
Sammy is a sweet girl who can't be much older than a year. She hangs around my place frequently because her owners leave her outside, all day and night and in all types of weather. (Sadly this is really common in this neighborhood.)
About a month or so ago, when we had that very cold and snowy weather, we found her crying at our door. She had a horrendous respiratory infection (She sounded like a congested elderly man snorting, it was so hard for her to breathe) as well as cuts/scrapes all over her. She also had several torn claws from getting into fights with other cats around here.
Thankfully a friend of mine who helps with fostering for The Last Chance Cat Ranch was able to take her in and get her medical attention. She cared for her while we searched for her owners.
She has an ear tattoo so we were able to locate her owners... but it wasn't the happy ending we were hoping for.
The vet we spoke to at the clinic who had done her tattoo informed us that she had already had two litters before her irresponsible owners brought her in to be spayed. Keep in mind this poor kitty is only a year old herself, if that.
My friend from The LCCR contacted the owners and spoke with them. When she mentioned the respiratory infection they casually replied that this was the third time Sammy had gotten this respiratory infection. They said they "didn't want to keep her indoors because she has a boyfriend" ...despite the vet telling them to because she's sick!
Said "boyfriend" is a very friendly intact male that we call Waffle. If she wasn't spayed litter number three would be well on it's way as I saw her out with Waffle (and another male) yesterday and earlier today.
I'll be surprised if she makes it through the summer with the coyotes around here.
I have her owners phone numbers so I can text them if I find her sick or injured again, but it's sad knowing that they really just don't care at all.
tldr Found a very sick cat in my neighborhood (maybe a year old at most) and got her much needed medical attention.
I then located her owners only to discover that they are awful people and severely neglect their cat. And they are still actively neglecting her.
The attached pictures I took just before posting this. She's still sick (you can see her lil nose is drippy) and she's still snorting, but thankfully not as badly) and the local male cats are still harrassing/fighting with heover her.
Anyways thanks for letting me rant a little, it's just infuriating not being able to do much about the situation.
And as the title says, if you're reading this and Sammy is your cat, shame on you. You're not good people.

2024.05.22 01:42 Pumpkin_Witch Slight discrepancy between AncestryDNA & 23andme?

Slight discrepancy between AncestryDNA & 23andme?
AncestryDNA seems to broadly assign me as ethnically English & NW European but 23andme seems pretty confident in identifying scottish genetic groups and lowland scots ancestor locations, I come from "ulster-scots" roots in appalachia with a majority of my surnames pointing towards Northern England borders; e.g. Cumbria, Yorkshire and Northumberland, where many scots-irish originally emigrated from. Is there any reason why my highest ancestor locations would favor Glasgow and Belfast (scottish/irish gene pools) on 23andme (as opposed to somewhere like Newcastle or York) when my AncestryDNA is predominantly English?
I understand that they're separate companies that calculate with different algorithms but I figured my scottish percentage would be slightly larger if not dominant for the British Isles results. I've been very satisfied with my DNA experience overall, but there's still a part of me that wishes my largest ethnic group were more clear cut and easy to define. How would you answer about your background if you were in my position? would you say I have a significant enough result to claim ethnicity as a scot? Also is 23andme telling me that I'm more genetically similar to people from Belfast and Glasgow than the north of England, or are my goidelic Irish results skewing the estimate further west? Thanks for reading!

"Sean, let me start with you. It is not that I don't like ya, on the contrary. But I had to start with one of yall...
You were always too much talkative, I told ya many times. Ya talked more than being aware to your surroudin'. And in the end, it got the best of ya, though ya died facin' family. \sigh** I'm sick, Irish boah. Caught some bad stuff doin' some bad stuff. Before we came for ya... Ah ah, what a party. I saw ya drunked like I never saw anybody drunk ever before.
I could use yar sharp tounge today, brightenin' up ma day. Ain't easy ya know, seein' all ma world crumble aroun' me. But ya're not here to listen me talking shit. Here, have some of the finest booth from that country of yours.
\open the bottle and take a few sips, and cough a few times, and empties the bottle on the grave**
Take the rest for ya, Irish boah. I'll catch ya later..."

"Kieran, pal. Our start ain't a piece o' cake, ain't it ? We had rough beginning. Ya... Did'n had to save me, back then. I still tryin' to figure why ya did it. But it was great havin' ya aroun'. I know we could have ride to Hell an' back together.
Ya know... \cough** It's weird for me to complain' seein' I'm alive and ya don't, I ain't have for much longer though. 't was great havin' ya aroun'. Listen to me, repeating myself like an old crazy man.
\throw a bullet on Kieran grave**
For ya, whatever ya are. Use it if ya need it, I wish I coulda done better to protect your life."

"Oooooh Lenny boah... Leonard... You had to be reckless, ain't ya ? Shoulda been me, ya shoulda not look for me... \sad laugh** in the end what had the best of ya was what ya always did, lookin' up to me. I witness that ya tried to take me as a role model. Always told ya tha I wasn't one. Ya shoulda left, much, much sooner.
I know you'd have made a fine voice worker. Ya always had somethin' for poetry, for the use of word. I ain't good with word, pardon me. It was that thing I always look up to ya. Like ma silly little brother.
\rises the head, watching the stars**
Ya do remember of that night, yeah ? We had such a good time, and I'd wanted to do it again. Yar first time drinkin' like a man. We got our ass kicked by that Sheriff... Malloy ? Ah ah... I think I threw up on ma boots that day. I wish it coulda never end...
\opens up a bottle of relatively low quality alcohol, alternating sipping and pourring some on the grave**
Here, let us drink together one last time, like old times. I know ya liked it down bellow. Full o' hope, o' dreams. But at least ya're with friend and familly, I bet ya got a lot to say to each other...
I miss ya. Love ya, Leonard boah. See ya soon.

"And ya, Hosea. My friend. My brotha. My family. It is ya, the one I shoulda call Dad.
It ain't the same since ya left us, Hosea. We managed to hide in that aweful Island close to the Carribean. I thought Dutch had us in mind. Got taken in some blood feud. It ain't easy. I get sick, Hosea, but I sure know ya knew. You had the clarity of mind and the wisdom that held us together as a family. Ya were the reason that Dutch never truly had. All that over a few bucks so the boahs and the girls could eat.
Could use some of that reason now, ya know ? I'm lost, Hosea. I started to doubt our path since we came back from that tropical hell. Dutch is becomin' reckless. He killed old Leviticus Cornwall. He promised me he wasn't goin' to. And he listen to that Micah snake too much for his own good, let alone ours. I t'ink he misses ya, Hosea. In his own, twisted, fool ways, I t'ink he misses ya.
He has a Plan. A train. We blew up a bridge with John. He confesses me he loved Abigail. That foold, t'inkin' we can't see... He also confesses me that he was thinkin' the same way, about Dutch.. As Mrs Adler. And Charles. Dutch tried to use some natives, we robbed the army, Hosea. Uncle Sam. So Charles left with what remained o' that tribe. The Chief, Falling-Rain, lost his son. I know Charles will lead 'em to a safer, better place.
Tomorrow, we go raid that Army train. It got money in, to repair that bridge we blew up. And then, maybe Dutch will see it a bit clearer. He speak of Thaiti, a lot.
\cough, a lot. Blood droplets scatter over the hand**
Aaaaarh... \muffled voice** I don't have much time left. I'm tryin' to help them all the best I can. Abigail, Jack, John. I want to giv'em a better life, Hosea. I'd die for 'em, if I had to.
Take care of young Lenny there. And please, don't wait too long for me. I have to gamble one last act of love before I can rest.
Thank you, for everythin', Hosea. Rest well."
So, in case it was not clear, I reached "the end game". My next mission is "Our Best Selves" and I did absolutely all secondary quests I could on chapter 6. It's 1h31 AM for me atm. I work tomorrow but I have to finish that game first.
I know i'm not ready for it. I did not really liked the whole game, some mechanics are goofy and story is not something I can... act upon. I'm just sharing that ride with Arthur Morgan. And now, we ride together, for the last time.
Wish me luck, boahs... Wish me luck.

2024.05.22 01:27 Leighbugs Help with translation please?

Hi there, I am part Lebanese as my grandfather is full Lebanese, born in Beirut. My own father recently passed away and I feel a need to connect with that part of my identity. Butterflies mean a lot to me in my life and symbolize hope and also a connection with my Dad in heaven. Anyway, I don't speak Arabic, unfortunately. I want to get a necklace made in honour of my family but I want it to say "butterfly" in Arabic. I have looked it up in Google but I just would like a native speaker to confirm it is indeed فراشة Is this correct? I don't want to be one of those people who think they have an awesome tattoo that says "warrior" in Chinese or something but in reality it says "chicken noodle soup" or something, LOL.

2024.05.22 01:27 kindaaddie How should I claim my heritage?

Hi everyone, I had a question I wanted to ask and this seems like the best place for it. Growing up, my family (moms side) has always adopted Cherokee traditions and culture. My grandma especially is very indulged in it; she knows quite a bit about the culture, speaks some of Tsalagi, told us about the folklore, and has taught her children and now my moms children about the culture. Not to stereotype..but majority of my family do have sterotypical Native features: High cheekbones, thick dark hair, dark skin, dark eyes. However...
Whenever she got a DNA test done years ago, it only showed up as 1% Native. I tried tracing this back but I cannot find my ancestors on the Dawes Rolls, Indian Census rolls, etc. I've heard that sometimes Native people would change their names or simply not sign these documents..could that be possible?
Something I DO know is that my family is from Appalachia, if that is at all relevant. I also know that some of our DNA comes from Ireland as well.
My point in saying all this is to ask how these questions:

2024.05.22 01:27 Ether-man The hail mary. M26 europe/norway/online

Hi M26 here. Europe/Norway/online I know the chances of meeting someone on here is low but i am a believer that the universe puts us on the path we are meant to be on no matter what happens so who knows what will happen. Also dating apps are horrible.
A little about me:
I am a pretty chill guy i would say. Im still trying to figure out life and who i am and who i want to be, would like to share that journey with someone and grow with them. Someone to give my heart to and know they will keep it safe. I don't really have any close friends anymore, everyone moved to different cities and only a few of them i am still in contact with. So i can say i am a bit of a lonely guy, i do most things by myself but thats okay. I believe myself to be a loving guy with a lot to give. I've been told by some that i even give too much too fast sometimes😅 but that's something im working on although i personally don't see it as a bad thing. I may be a little shy at first but once i get comfortable that's when the fun/nightmare begins😂 I like car rides, movie nights, deep conversations in the night and things like that. I've always wanted to have a cooking partner because it's not fun to cook alone. Basically what im looking for is a person to do all the cheesy cozy cute couple things with. I am open to trying new things with the right person. Im an open book so if you have questions just ask😊
I went over my post at least 40 times for spell checks and grammar correction. Sorry if i missed some😅

Skeleton hand tattoo?
I took some time away from Reddit and everything while going through a hard time late 2023 and I feel like I'm just now catching up on her. But when did she get this tattoo? Is it new or did I just miss it for years?? Also if it is new why did she get it did she say?

2024.05.22 00:34 Ok-Split-4752 Scarlet Lady 2022 vs Resilient lady 2024 experience comparison

Just finished a 10 day mediterranean cruise on Resilient lady. Having only previously cruised on Scarlet lady in early 2022 at a third capacity on a 5 day Caribbean itinerary, I thought I would share my impressions.
  1. This cruise was at capacity which I was worried about how the experience would differ. Overall, it did not feel busy to us. We didn't really have to wait in any lines, we were able to see all the shows we wanted, and we were able to book all the dinner reservations and gym classes we wanted. I will note that we knew to book restaurants as soon as we got on the ship and as soon as the exercise classes opened at 3pm. In comparison, this recent experience was much more lively and active. The previous cruise was creepy at times with venues often being empty.
  2. This cruise seemed like a much older crowd than our previous experience- they said average age was 52. We are in our late 30's and it didn't seem like there were many younger passengers. With that said, the 5 day Caribbean itineraries are more likely to have a younger party crowd so we were partly expecting this to be an older demographic. There were a number of people who walked out of some of the performances making comments about having an agenda pushed down their throat, but overall, didn't feel like the "come as you are" vibe was impacted. The only issue I saw was that many of the older passengers seemed to not be aware of the option to order at your table in the galley. Most mornings, there were lines forming at the various breakfast counters unnecessarily, which made it often difficult to walk around. We ordered from the staff at our table and were able to be served and complete our meal within 30 minutes. So keep in mind you can use the red flag to order at the table- no need to line up! Another concern was that there were a lot of obviously sick older people coughing, etc. The amount of times we saw people touch things without using the readily available hand sanitizers after wiping their noses and coughing was quite astonishing. Yes, this happens on all cruises, but this seemed a bit more frequent than we have seen before.
  3. All of the port tender and shuttles went really smoothly! Longest we had to wait for a shuttle was about 10 min in Crete. Disembarkation was also super quick as we were off the ship carrying our luggage within 10 min.
  4. We bought the 5 day thermal spa pass for $259 each person. We aren't big party people or drinkers, so we would often go to the spa in the evening after dinner. If you do this, note that on one of the days you get a special sugar scrub and lotion to use as part of the mud room which was lovely!
  5. We had a $600 bar tab which we used despite not drinking much. We had specialty coffees at each breakfast and also bought non-alcoholic drinks such as Humm Kombucha and Kin Euphorics. Also, each restaurant and bar seemed to have at least one or more non-alcoholic or low alcoholic options. Finally, if we did decide to have a drink, we splurged on expensive glasses of wine (Caymus, Moet, etc) which was a nice experience.
  6. We booked an excursion at each port and all were pretty great experiences. Of note, I didn't think the excursion prices were that much more expensive than what I found on trip advisor, etc, so I preferred to book with the ship for flexibility and securing tender spots where needed.
  7. One of the few negative experiences we had was the room location. I mentioned we aren't big on partying and treated this trip as more of a wellness and relaxation vacation. We booked an XL sea terrace about a year before the trip using a travel agent. I didn't bother to look at the room location and unfortunately we had 8330Z, which had a speaker from the Red Room right below. I'm not kidding when I say the room shook from the sound system- to the point where we had to disassemble the mini fridge shelves and pull out the drawers as they were knocking around so much and the noise was absurd. Even if you were hard of hearing, the vibration and shaking alone would make it impossible to relax and fall asleep. We reached out to sailor services who said they could offer ear plugs, but that was it. Luckily on the 2nd day, sailor services called us and offered us a room change to 11350A, an XL sea terrace (without hammock), which we gladly accepted. Note that Red Room entertainment goes to 11pm, so this would only be a problem if you are early to bed and early risers like us.
  8. We had on board credit so decided to do the behind the scenes tour. It was definitely a good one-time experience and we learned a lot of interesting aspects. For example, all the restaurants cook the plates per order (yes there's prep, but there's not plates just sitting under a warmer waiting to be served). All pastries are made on ship. One of the striking impressions was that the staff seem to genuinely enjoy their job. Several times they said they were promoted quickly, there's lots of perks including being able to eat at the restaurants and book excursions, and they liked that they can show their tattoos, piercings, have hair of any color, etc. They also said there's purposely no visible rankings, uniform differences, or countries of origin listed. They want everyone treated with the same level of respect- you may actually have encountered the captain and not know it. It's a bit refreshing from the over the top interactions that staff on other cruise lines show. Staff seem genuinely in a good mood on Virgin.
  9. Overall, this solidified that we love Virgin Voyages. We did an Alaska itinerary on Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) last summer and Virgin is a much better experience in our opinion. On RC, we felt like everything was an upsell or shopping centric and run down (yes it is an older ship than Resilient but it seemed grimy). Areas were over crowded on RC and overall felt chaotic. Virgin seemed to have longer stays in the ports than we have experienced on RC (less concerned with shopping and casino sales?) Also, not having kids on the cruise makes a big difference. Food is much better on Virgin, apart from us really liking the sushi restaurant on Quantum- note that we did the unlimited specialty restaurant package on Quantum as we thought the dining room quality had gone down and we don't like buffets. Overall, I feel that while Virgin is more expensive up front, it is a better quality experience. We will likely go on another RC cruise as my parents are avid cruisers and won't try another line despite our encouragement, but we are definitely sold on the Virgin experience. We used the book your next voyage promotion on the ship and will be going on Brilliant Lady in 2026 in a suite. Having a suite on the 2022 voyage and an XL terrace on this recent voyage, we feel the cost is worth it for the suite, although the XL sea terrace was still a very nice experience.
Happy to answer any questions you have!

I don’t mind talking to anyone just please be 18+ and don’t just say “Hi”. I’ll put the effort in if you do too 🙂

Hi! Trying this again in the hope of finding some new friends! I’m a 26M from Scotland, UK, pretty chilled out and happy to talk about/listen to just about everything.
As for my hobbies - I am a MASSIVE horror fan and I love everything creepy/scary,
I watch/play football to keep fit and I like gaming(PS5) whenever I have the spare time, always looking for game recommendations and people to play with.

2024.05.21 23:35 ProjectJust6120 Do you think I can have full removal?

the butterfly is very recent, 2 weeks old & the bouquet is about a year & a half old. the bouquet was just poorly done, but i honestly like both of them. I just hate the placement horribly and am dying to remove them & start over. i wanted dainty small tattoos & got one big one & then just kept going to try & make it all come together but it honestly just made me less happy. please say i'll be able to remove these completely. i know for the butterfly i'll have to wait to start the process but

2024.05.21 23:33 zBuLe03 38 [M4F] Moreno Valley, CA/ Online / Anywhere - Let have lunch this Thursday

Hi, how are you doing today? I hope you’re doing well. Could we have lunch this Thursday? Please bear with me because I have no idea what I’m doing. I am an introverted person. I can spend all day alone with no issues. However, I think I have spent too many days alone now; it would be best if I get out of my comfort zone and find some company. I have never dated before, so pardon my inexperience.
About me
Some other points about me
I am described as wholesome. However, I’m open-minded and don’t mind if you enjoy activities that I don't.
I am open to anything, from just this single date to starting a family and anything in between; I am open to any relationship. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I am proposing lunch on Thursday, virtually anywhere in Moreno Valley or Riverside. It can be anytime as well. Unfortunately, I work weekend nights, so Wednesday and Thursday are my days off. If you have any other suggestions, I am open to listening. A movie, a hike, etc…
I don’t know what else to put here. I am socially inept, thus I’m not really good at conversational speech. If you are interested, feel free to contact me. Any and all questions are welcome.

Leatherman Europe F#*ked me over
Hey everyone So I was trying to be nice to my father and get he's Crunch tool fixed up under Leatherman Europe's warranty scheme So long story short,he's crunch was gifted to him by the fire fighting service he works for many years ago and was used nearly daily but it was damaged and just needed cleaning so sent it to Leatherman Germany (since brexit in the UK all Irish keatehrmans go to Germany now)and they emailed me saying it was unrepairable and that they could return it or replace it with another crunch so I opted for another crunch as it wasn't sentimental etc but unbelievably today it arrived back and they sent a wave + which is nice yeah but it was a discontinued model and they said they'd be replacing it with another crunch which be loved
What's the best way to approach this ?? I've attached the email amof them saying I'd be getting another crunch
