2024.05.21 16:45 secretive_stranger Can your skin get darker than usual, then go to normal when trying to correct hyperpigmented areas?

Growing up I've never really used sunscreen, even in my teens, and I've been in situations where I spent like 4 hours straight in the sun. Even the top of my scalp is darker than the sides cause it hot tanned (my hair was very thin). My arms, legs, neck and face are much darker than my body. But I would would consider my face and neck problem areas and have been using Palmers sun fade, Pond's dark spot correction and basic skin care thingys. I might also have a slight hormonal balance due to some weight gain. Despite doing skin care, avoiding the sun for a bit and regular exercise, I feel like my face is getting darker and even more dull. When I first started, I had some improvement and then it just stopped and kept getting worse than when I started.
I did research and found: https://www.vivantskincare.com/blogs/hyperpigmentation/why-do-dark-spots-get-darker-before-they-get-lighter
Tl;Dr the article, for hyperpigmentatuon to go away, your face will first become very dark because of the excess melanin cells with rise to the top layer of the skin and then fade away. I'm not that educated on skin care and the skin... soo I'm not sure. Is this legit? And is this what may be happening to me? I couldn't really find more credible sources. When I wake up my face usually looks more refreshed and lighter, but now it's still looks a bit grey and dull

2024.05.21 16:33 pogoananda Looking for more shared spatial experiences / thoughts on my first time

Last night, I hung out with my cousin in Albuquerque for hours, sharing the same room, playing games, looking at family photos and watching movies. Giving each other tours of our homes. The fact that I'm in New York made this utterly magical. I feel like we spent the night hanging out together, for the first time in years. I think this is the best use case for the AVP so far.
I want recommendations for other games and experiences that can be shared spatially.
Some thoughts on what we tried:
What do other people think?

2024.05.21 16:29 bepbep_beaches [Online][5e][Sunday 3pm EST][21+] Viloneian Ventures

Viloneia is a land that is ever shifting. From the tribal nation of Chaunshar to the religious scholars of Ormsfield, the world is vast, and it seems like someone is always discovering something new. With the signing of the All Creatures Accord recently, the world has entered an era of peace known as the Accord Age. Wars were concluded and new nations born out of the signing of this Accord, and Viloneia avoided plunging into another Terror Age.
The story is in its infancy, with plenty of room to be written by you and the others at the table. Will you help the Accord Age to prosper, or will you be a piece in the machine that plunges the world back into discord and strife?
Hello everyone! I’m Bep (she/her) and the DM for this game. I am new to DMing but not to 5e in general, as I have played in several games in the past and finally decided to try my hand at running a game. Viloneia is a world entirely of my own creation, and though it’s a young creation, I feel it’s solid enough that I have started running a game in it.
Specifically, I am looking for just one player to fill a spot at my table. We already have 3 established players are are 6 sessions in, but I have decided to take one more player to round things out for reasons I can’t explain, lest I spoil some key plot points, haha.
Viloneia is a high fantasy, medieval type world. You know, normal D&D fare. It has its own pantheon and history that I have all written out and am happy to talk about if you are interested. I just don’t have a player-specific guide written up at this time so it’s easier to tell you more once we get to talking.
I am looking for a player that is:
  • 21+ years of age. Sorry to anyone younger out there, but we’re all 21+ at the table and would like to keep it that way. This is not an NSFW game however. Romance, while permitted, is fade-to-black only. Adult themes may still be present in the course of RP. I run a mature game and so themes that some people may find upsetting can show up.
  • LBTQIA+ positive. There’s no tolerance for hate or discrimination at my table.
  • Active and engaged during games. Be proactive, not reactive, and interact with your party.
  • Inspired to make a character that impacts the world. I am happy to give more details about my world if you contact me!
  • Not afraid of consequences and willing to play a serious game. I don’t run a “haha funny” game. I run a game with serious repercussions to your actions should you choose to do something that deserves those consequences. Be prepared for that.
  • Committed to a long-term game. I’m not running a one-shot here, I want someone who is going to stick with it through months of play.
  • Willing to join a VC for a casual interview in the evening (EST) if asked.
The current makeup of the party is:
  • A Nightblessed (Drow) Elf Paladin, Oath of Watchers
  • A Variant Tiefling Rogue, Soulknife
  • A Variant Tiefling Cleric, Grave
We use Roll20 for maps, D&D Beyond for character sheets, and Discord VC for the actual games.
Games are 4 hours and run from 3pm EST to 7pm EST on Sundays, every week.
If you’re interested, please fill out this brief form. If I like your answers, I'll reach out on Discord. We’ll get to talking from there. I don’t have a very formal application because I’m more confident in my ability to source people based on the vibes I get from conversation.
This will be marked CLOSED once I have found someone.

2024.05.21 16:25 DAPOPOBEFASTONYOAZZ Is PPF wrap worth it if you're only wrapping the roof (and pillars?)

Hi all!
I'm looking to get my 2021 Camry wrapped to look like it has the two-tone roof of the XSE and TRD trims. I have asked around several different wrap shops in my area and they are all quoting this job to be around the range of $1,000+. I have had a place offer me a PPF wrap job, but it could be double to two and a half times the price of their quote of $1,000 as well. This includes a vinyl wrap and a ceramic coating.
I want my car to have good materials put on it, no doubt. But I also think that up to $2,500 for a wrap job on the roof is a little insane...especially when Toyota has already quoted me about $800 more to just have it factory painted (which at that price point, why not? Except I'm worried since it's black, it may fade over time and a wrap can just be replaced much cheaper than painting it again - I digress.)
From what I have researched, PPF sounds like it would be most beneficial for lower parts of my car (bumpers and doors) as it protects against scratches and damage from rocks and such. However, since it would be on my roof and side pillars, am I correct in thinking that it may be unnecessary to spend an extra $1,000 - $1,500 on a PPF when the roof and pillars aren't really susceptible to the same kind of damage that the bumper and doors are? Wouldn't a ceramic coating do just fine in lieu of a PPF?
Thanks for any insight!!

2024.05.21 16:21 RF_WIZARD Is a 2020 Les Paul Classic for $1,350 a steal?

I have the opportunity for another trade and want the opinion of this subreddit.
I have a Fender American Standard Telecaster that I paid $900 for. One guy wants to buy it for $800. Someone a few town over wants to trade me his 2020 Les Paul Classic (the red version, with added chrome pickup covers) but I would have to add $450 bringing my total investment into the guitar to $1,350.
This feels like a pretty good price for the classic, but for some reason I recall these being in blowout sales at GC for not much more than that new. Does anyone recall that or what they sold for? Also, assuming the tele doesn’t get much use, would you add $450 for the Les Paul or eat the $100 loss as a cost of trying the tele? Is $1,350 a good deal?
Historically I haven’t been the biggest fan of playing Les Pauls but I’ve only tried ad an old faded studio and an older Les Paul Classic with the snotty green inlays (I couldn’t get over them). This one looks to be in good condition. Not the biggest fan of the solid top vs burst, but with the chrome covers it looks classy and reminds me of George Harrison’s Les Paul.
Reference Information: I play my SG w/ P90s or 335 90% of the time and the tele doesn’t get much use. I play classic rock and funk through British amps (ac30 and plexi type amps).

2024.05.21 16:19 No_Bother9001 Feeling burned out. Working on weekends in a startup.

I am working in a PBC. I joined as a fresher and have been working in flutter for the past 8 months. As soon as I joined I started getting tasks and I completed all of them on/before time. Even got an award in the first quarter. I used to stay up late and work and there was no wlb per se. I didn't bother much because I thought this was the norm. Since I had a good track record, they gave me a critical feature along with a senior engineer. I thought I was climbing the ladder of success but I was mistaken. I have been working on weekends till 1-2 am. Don't eat properly, stopped going to gym. I was ok when the senior said that we have to work only a few days like this. But it's been more than a week now. My enthusiasm is fading, I dread/get annoyed when my senior tells me to connect. When I was studying I used to dream of working hard. I work on really good engineering problems in my company but I feel tired now. Pay is good, team is good. Please help me if anyone went through the same.

2024.05.21 16:15 dakodeh MADiSON VR Review

I recently played through MADiSON VR and felt compelled to share my review for anyone on the fence about this title. Bloodious Games has finally given me something in this VR version of Madison that I've been craving in my 7+ years in VR; a game that is almost irresponsibly frightening. A game that probably ought to carry a health warning due to the sheer relentlessness of its frights. Bloodious proves here that they simply do not give a shit how badly Madison VR scares you, they will not hold back, and they do not. For a horror fan (particularly VR horror!) I cannot convey how refreshing this approach is. I came into Madison VR thankfully blind and finished the game in under 6 deliciously terrifying hours (or so the achievement I triggered told me) and I thoroughly dreaded each of them. I'll share my thoughts on The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly with this one.
The Good:
The Bad:
The Ugly:
While I share a healthy amount of constructive (I hope!) criticism in this review, I want to make it clear that I enjoyed Madison VR IMMENSELY. Not only was it exactly the sort of unrelentingly terrifying horror experience that I was looking for in VR, it's a game of exceptional quality. I cannot WAIT to see what Bloodious does next. If you've got the stones to play this one, it's a horror adventure journey worth taking.

Aetherians of the New Empire are banned from ever returning to Aetheria or from joining into the One. The border net is a solid wall to non-authorized Aetherians, impenetrable. The Elo Eloahim passes through the net without a hitch.
The Blade has now come to a full stop. The shuttle carrying Excelsior Andriel is docking with the Blade. Once the shuttle is cleared of occupants, it will return to the Elo Eloahim autonomously.
Excelsior Andriel has made his way back to the bridge of the Blade and is admiring the border net through the giant viewer screens. I haven't been out here for many strands. Beautiful to look at.
Send some technicals out to one of those nodes to have a look at it. I am sure it is manifest, but there must be a way to defeat it. I want to tear a hole in it, big enough to push the Blade through it, Andriel says.
There is only one express elevator that drops down to the 17th floor. The operator must enter a series of codes as the elevator descends. The codes are changed frequently like a password.
There are government secrets on 17 that can never be accessed by unauthorized personnel, says Steven as the elevator nears the bottom floor of the Pine Bluff underground base. The door opens and Nancy, Walter, Brad and the two techies spill out of the elevator to a large hall with long corridors running down each side. The footprint of the bottom floor covers about 120,000 square feet, about the size of a car factory or supersized retail store.
We have all your gear in a lab down this hallway, says Steven. We are anxious to see your device at work, Oscar says. Hey, do you guys want to see something really cool? Steven asks.
All three nod in unison. Great. Follow me, Steven says.
The group walks down a hall and enters a lab, lots of tables, computers, not much to see really. Up on one table is a group of long plastic tubes, 12 inches in diameter, maybe 4 or 5 feet long. You can see mirrors at the end.
Wow, this looks interesting, Walter says. You are looking at the real reason we went into Iraq. Saddam had this built from instructions found on ancient Sumerian clay tablets found near where Babylon once stood.
They called it the Looking Glass. Our CIA guys heard about it and had photos and diagrams of it smuggled out of Iraq. We recreated it out at Area 51, Groom Lake actually.
When they saw that it worked, the powers that be, Steven makes air quotes with his hands, decided to go in and get it. This is the real deal. The whole 9-11 scam was part of an elaborate plan to get this thing out of Iraq. That’s my opinion.
Plus other sundry items. Walter, Nancy, and Brad are just stunned. Steven turns on a light source that bounces around from mirror to mirror and ends up at a large concave mirror, 15 inches in diameter.
You can see faint moving images on the mirror's surface that look like old 8mm grainy film. It looks like rioting in the streets, store shelves empty, a stark apocalyptic scene. Large crowds gather around the U.S. Capitol building and the Vatican.
Steven, where are these images coming from? Brad asks. From the future? Steven responds. No? Brad says. Yes, from the future. Steven says.
Somehow, light being moved over all these mirrored surfaces breaks out a light that is streaming in from the future. Walter moves in closer. So are these images just random snippets? Or are they organized in some manner? Walter questions.
The best we can tell is that they are like listening to an old AM radio at night. Stations from far away can drown out stations that are close by. Just sort of a jumble of music coming in and fading out.
It seems that the images are from different points in the future. One may be 5 years out and the next 50 years away, Steven says. So, what is so important about it, Nancy asks? Think about it, Nancy, having advanced warning of coming events.
Plus, many times we can see advanced technology. It's priceless, Oscar says as he reaches over and turns off the device. The one big drawback, however, is that, just us witnessing of these events will change them.
It's a very tight loop. We have been shooting video from the big mirror. When we compare previously shot video from images from the look in glass, they are different.
Some in subtle ways and others in major ways. Simply observing the future changes it. So we only keep it on for brief periods until we understand this phenomenon better, Steven concludes. Okay, let's get you guys settled into your lab. I am really looking forward to learning more about this superlight. Our world is amazing, isn't it? Steven says,
Washington DC is spectacular at sundown. The lights from the monuments and government buildings make for dramatic and exciting backdrop for the world leaders and dignitaries that visit, as well as the everyday politicians that haunt the city. A group of high-powered cabinet secretaries and military bosses have sit down for an emergency meeting with the president. Gentlemen, greetings and thank you for coming up here to the White House on such short notice.
I have been receiving phone calls and veiled threats from world leaders all day. Number one, what is all this fuss really all about? And secondly, what is going to be our stance in regards to this crazy technology, which I have heard very little about? Are we just going to take it from a private company and turn it over to all the governments of the world? The president asks out of breath, Mr. President, if I may, says Senator Abramson, who is seated on one of the two sofas just in front of the president's big resolute desk. I believe I was the first one to hear of this device.
I heard from a doctor that works at the company, one of my constituents. He came to me frantic and told me many details about this device. He had the presence of mind to film an experiment he participated in, shot on his cell phone.
I was so concerned about this horror show being in my district, I contacted the FBI director to look into it, for I thought it was a national security risk at the highest degree. The FBI director sent in a team with a warrant to seize any and all evidence related to the Superlight project. Brad Hillier, the company CEO, was one step ahead of us and had already moved all key components of the device and associated files and plans.
We have no leads at the moment as too where he and members of his staff are hiding out. I would like to offer whatever assistance I can, being that this thing was created in my district. I would like to help if I can.
Thank you, Senator. We can use all the help we can get. I want to thank you all again for coming up, and I would like to suggest that each of you consult with your respective departments and get me a letter that lays out your thoughts on how to proceed with this situation.
Please give me something by the end of tomorrow. I will then be better informed on my decisions on how to deal with this issue. Thank you all for coming.
All the attendants stand and stream out of the Oval Office. Ed Bramson hangs back. Mr. President, I had a deep black officer from the Space Force speak to my oversight committee, and she let it be known that she knew about Hilliard before any of this became public.
I have no way of getting to her. But I thought you should know, she may have information regarding Hilliard. Very interesting, Senator.
I will try looking under some rugs. But as you know, I have little authorization over deep black project sites or the people that run them. Please stay in contact, Senator.
Atlan, the home world of the Aetherians, is the seat of the Old Dominion. The large planet sits just outside the massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy, in a large cluster of stars orbiting the event horizon. The light from all the nearby stars eliminate all darkness.
Every planet in this cluster is lit every hour, all over the globe by multiple stars. Massive bright stars can be seen in every direction. Humans could not exist here, the heat and radiation would evaporate the water in a human body in seconds.
But it's paradise to the Aetherians that dwell here. An indescribable garden, hundreds of millions of vast mansion homes with complex landscaping. There are over 100 planets inhabited by the Aetherians in this sector.
One more beautiful and amazing as the next, Atlan is home to the One. The One walks these gardens from time to time, and abides in a mountain compound known as Shiloe Ahim. Ambassador Lucentel the hand of the One, is an Ark ancestor.
He was with the One long before the Matterverse was spoken into existence. There are a small number of Ark ancestors, as many as 100 are known to live. The Akashe, the Ancient Hall of Records, holds records telling the story of the One and the Ark ancestors alone on Atlan.
The Ark ancestors wanted a family and asked the One to enrich them with sons. The One said he would extract a small spark of himself and release it as a son for each Ark ancestor. Many years later, the Ark ancestors developed the ability to petition the One for new sons and daughters.
The sons and daughters of the Ark ancestors are slightly less powerful than the Ark ancestors. Over billions of years, the eternal Aetherians have multiplied into trillions of beings and lower beings. The lower beings take the form of many exotic creatures that inhabit thousands of planets scattered across the Aetherians' Old Dominion.
Atlan is standing by to receive us, Ambassador, announces the Commander on duty. Please dock and secure the Elo-Eloahim. I would like to travel down to Atlan as soon as possible.
Brad, Nancy, and Walter have finished setting up the superlight in the big lab that Steven and Oscar gave them. Brad, you need to see the footage I shot of you while you were sleeping in the van. The interview I did with your driver, Zia, Nancy says.
What? You interviewed my driver? Brad says surprised. Yes, when you were asleep in the van, Nancy says, as she is cutting up the video footage. Okay, here we go.
Brad is watching the video, riveted by it. He turns it off. Well? Nancy asks. It's nice, I always wanted a daughter, Brad giggles.
I am sorry this shit is so crazy that if I don't laugh, I would cry. We haven't peeled back even one layer of this onion yet, and it's already difficult to keep up with. When I came out here with Archer on his private plane, Captain Carpenter introduced me to her little grey alien friends.
We flew aboard a small silver disc-shaped craft to their home base, that sits out around the rings of Saturn. Nancy looks right at Brad. Stop Brad, are you high right now?.
Brad pauses, don't you remember at lunch, Captain Carpenter said I would bring you up to speed. Well, I am bringing you up to speed right now. Drivers, waterbots, now grey aliens and UFO discs, what's next? Nancy asks with indigence.
Brad says, who knew a high-frequency light designed to see cracks in critical aircraft components and machinery would cause intergalactic turmoil. So as I was saying, my understanding is that the Superlight is a threat to a huge data collecting operation that these high freaks have been doing for eons. High freaks? Walter asks puzzled.
Oh, that's just a name I gave them. They are the beings that inhabit the realm that we see with the Superlight. They function at a super high frequency of light.
Their world is as real as ours, just operating at a higher frequency. Without the advent of the Superlight, we would never know that they are all around us and strewn all across the universe, Brad continues. The high freaks drive avatars or waterbots as Zia calls us, without our knowledge, so they can collect millions of terabytes from hundreds of telemetry points during the lifetime of the avatar.
It seems that the traveler or waterbot is just a spacesuit, be it an advanced one for the high freaks, Brad concludes. So the superlight reveals this relationship to the travelers, and that is what they are concerned about. Follow the money.

These showed up on my doorstep. No idea where they came from.
I can't figure out who sent them to me! None of my disc golf homies would have spent the money on the Firebird (which surprised me when I googled it as a non-firebird thrower!).
Separately packaged. I thought they were the new Løft Neon and Titanium I funded on Kickstart, and was super stoked! But now I'm even more stoked AND confused!
The Firebird is fucking amazing by the way. Yes, I throw all my not-cheap discs. It's apparently a less stable run - my first thought was "holy shit, this goes a long way before dumping," and then I looked it up, and the description said something like "known to fly straight with a very late, very strong fade." Super unique in my bag! Definitely made a spot!
Anyone else ever get surprise mystery discs?!?

2024.05.21 16:06 TurbulentRough5545 Thoughts on Boruto as a WHOLE!?

I have been away from anime for 2 years and I mean completely cut off. I recently dabbled again and decided to do a re-run of Naruto. Which led me to the question of what's going on in Boruto and HOLY SHIT WTF IS GOING ON??
This is not a rant! My question is in the tittle itself. But coming from Naruto and fading memories of Boruto two years ago I can only remember the fight with naruto and sasuke against momoshiki. My interpretation of the series was just some aliens doing aliens shit and nothing more. I found it weird then and even now but like the amount of alien shit is fking weird. Now knowing the existence of Blue vortex(which as far as I know is the time-skip and part 2 of boruto) and knowing somewhat very little about the whole plot it has peaked my intrest but seeing the whole naruto universe going from ninjas to gods to aliens and now to fking cyborg. EVERYTHING IS FKED! I am a gen Z so I did not grew up with Naruto or even Naruto Shippuden so I cannot even imagine the pain, confusion and conflict or the people who deeply cares about the narutoverse and the characters from those universe being thrown in this circus and having to play along. The legacy is being convered in horse shit. It's hard getting adjusted to all of it even if I want to care and follow up with it.
I want to know directly from the community(even if you guys really love the series) give a critical opinion and whether I just have to look past the Blasphemy or I can find someway to change my perspective, if anyone relates to my feelings and give well-thought out opinion on the series. From how it was and how it is going and whether I am over-reacting to it or not? I wanna see part 2 since I recently found out what happens to himawari and the plot b/w kawaki and boruto seems EPIC but having trouble to see or even pick up the manga because I know it just all is absurd.
Ps: Sorry I could not find an appropriate flair for my question

2024.05.21 16:04 No_Expression_5353 Wanted an LP…got an LP. Yesterday was a good day.

Just got the Epiphone Les Paul Modern in Blueberry Fade!
I’m fairly new to guitar. Took lessons for a year in 2021, didn’t take it too seriously. Stopped. Had heart surgery (quad bypass) and realized that I have nerve damage in my left arm from where they took an artery for a graft. Guitar is great PT for that. So I’m getting back into lessons.
I’ve got small hands, and red that LP’s are great for somebody with short stubby fingers.
Loving the guitar so far! Similar electronics to my Epiphone SG muse, but damn, it sounds way different. And, a few of the guitars in the background are my daughter’s. She’s been playing for 4 years now.

2024.05.21 16:02 pancakeghostyy Fresh cut on past cellulitis site?

My dad (Male, 58, 5"11, 252lbs, smoker) had very bad cellulitis 2 years ago on his right calf. He passed out, was hospitalised and put on IV antibiotics for 3 days. Within 1 week he was back home and continued on oral antibiotics. The redness never faded.
A year later the same thing happened and he was again hospitalised and put on IV antibiotics. Again the redness is still there and his entire lower calf is discoloured. It's been 1 year since then and he hasn't had any temperature spike and he feels generally fine.
Today he slipped in the garden and cut his calf in that area. It's bleeding and the skin is ripped, right where his cellulitis redness is. I can't provide a picture as he declined. My question is could this trigger his cellulitis again? He won't go to the doctor and said it's "just a cut" and that he will get some anti-septic powder from the pharmacy. He is not concerned however I am as the last 2 times he was hospitalised it was only by chance my mother checked on him before going to bed and he was in fact passed out from a high fever (40°C, 104°F) in front of the TV both times.
Is this fresh wound on his cellulitis site a cause for concern? The only medication he is taking is statins for his high cholesterol as he is overweight.

2024.05.21 15:59 Daegu_Woman Mariah finally showing her true colors as the karen she is.

Y'all, I'm so mad that I ever felt sympathy for this bitch or thought she was bullied last season. I now truly believe she was plotting and trying to set up Suki when house A accused her of plotting on people. Mariah sent Bianca a text from the yacht and the first dinner in episode 1/2 saying she felt a way and wanted to hop on Sapphire herself, basically getting Bianca rilled up to fight Sapphire. Meanwhile, you see her kii kii with Sapphire, kissing her ass and pleading her case to Sapphire to make it seem like she's neutral and friends with both sides. Wasn't this bitch just sending a text 2.5 minutes ago dogging Sapphire out? If I was Bianca watching this shit, I'd be pissed, no wonder she leaked those texts. Mariah essentially manipulated her for a fade that wasn't needed. Mariah got exposed as the white woman Karen she is. It's giving Carolyn Bryant Donham with all this lying, white tears and sneaky shit.

2024.05.21 15:16 authrop My setup for Ironsworn - a long road to finding a flow.

My setup for Ironsworn - a long road to finding a flow.
I discovered Ironsworn a few years back during a Print-and-play / Solo gaming phase brought about due to the pandemic lockdown. I had played and enjoyed Four Against Darkness and quickly started looking for something else to scratch the Solo RPG/Gaming itch. Ironsworn seemed really interesting for a number of reasons:
  1. The narrative first approach interested me as someone who has enjoyed creative writing forever but lacked the focus to actually sit down and do it regularly.
  2. The very relaxed attitude to the setting. The Ironlands felt like it was as much a jumping off point for world creation as an interesting world to explore. The Your Truths exercise only increased this feeling and was a joy to complete on its own, even without playing the game.
  3. The extremely well written (Free!) rulebook which quickly became something I read to relax, again without even begining to play the game.
  4. The Oracles felt incredible to roll on and discover new exciting and unexpected avenues for storytelling.
Despite all of this interest, I initially struggled to get a campaign off the ground. I would enjoy creating the world and a character but then after a brief start, lose interest in my personal journey and return back to looking at the rulebook or finding other resources available, or watching Me, Myself and Die! or some other, much more practised, solo player.
I think the reason for this was that I didn't have a set method for actually playing the game. I would switch between: messing with Roll20 or Ironjournal, jotted down notes in a notepad, using a word document on my laptop and various other ways as I basically procrastinated actually making headway in my story. Even printing and organising the Lodestar reference book along with various cheatsheets in a nice folder for eventual use once I stopped dithering about. In the end, it got shelved. Always in the back of my mind and never completely forgotten but not touched for a couple of years.
Then recently I got an urge and had a quick glance through the rulebook PDF which was on my phone and I realised something I should have known all along; Ironsworn isn't a strict, crunchy system but a tool for personal storytelling and to relax into it.
So after rereading the entire rulebook (haha, of course! I love that thing) and also looking into the newer version of Ironjournal, I started and it's even better than I imagined once everything starts to flow and analysis paralysis fades.
My current setup is:
• A tablet (less distractions than a laptop) and a Bluetooth keyboard (for faster typing and easier access to formatting controls).
• The newer Ironjournal open in split screen with a Google document - I use Ironjournal for the truths, the character sheet and progress tracks, map and location/NPC tracking. The Google doc is for the my campaign journal as I can have a nicer, more novel-like font (helps me alot for all types of writing) and also allows me to format it clearer between narrative and mechanics over the inbuilt journal function of IJ.
• After using the inbuilt dice rolleoracle roller in IJ for a short while, I have switched to psychical dice and a dice tray and I now refer to my stats and the oracles in Eric Bright's Expanded Oracles document (which now includes Shawn Tomkins original oracles as well). Manually making the calculations and assessing the results. - Although this method is slightly longer, it seems to produce better narrative discussions for me rather than the extremely quick way in which IJ throws the results at you.
• I also have the rulebook PDF open as a pop out for reference along with the Expanded Oracles PDF.
• Finally, something I have discovered and I find interesting is using the UNE (Universal NPC Emulator) and BOLD (Book of Legends and Deeds) both by the late Zach Best. I believe these pre-date Ironsworn by a good 10 years and in someway do a similar job as some of IS's oracles but there is something about the structure and the results being framed as a leading question I find helpful and exciting.
All in all, I think I've found a good workflow to progress stories and enjoy the system (finally!).
Next upgrades on my list are:
• To become familiar with Delve and introduce that - I have the PDF and have read a large chunk of it but haven't bit the bullet and used it (I also haven't felt the base game lacking or the need for more as of yet).
• To get some heavy metal dice as the tactile element of them appeals to me in a way I can't quite explain (haha!).
• To become more familiar with how best to map out or otherwise create visual counterparts for my adventures, either using AI image generation or something else. Currently using a generated village map from Watabou's Procgen Arcana as a starting point for my characters home village.
Any advice or things that people have found to be personally beneficial in getting and keeping your games interesting and flowing well would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if I wrote this post for advice or to simply consolidate my relationship with the Ironsworn system for myself. Either way, here is it!

I did it! No more tubes, yay!! Advice I collected from this sub that worked for me:
• Get a gas relief medication. I got Curist Gas Relief Simethicone 250 mg Softgels and never experienced that intense shoulder and gas pain I've read about. • Bring a pillow for the car ride home to keep the seat belt off your belly. I brought a travel neck pillow so there was nothing pressing against my stomach and am so grateful. • Especially if you won't have someone there to care for you, prep out easy snacks and meals, and place dishes in an easy reach spot. • I switched to Tylenol pm at night and it really helped me rest well.
AMA, or feel free to share your favorite tip! Thank you childfree for helping me so much.
Now my question, has anyone had surgical glue seem to wear away or fade instead of peel off? Had my surgery one week ago, Monday of last week. One incision is pulling up along the edges and obviously peeling off, but the other two it appears more like the glue is fading away. No pulling up along the edges but the glue seems to have thinned. One to the point that a little blood came out, but I've been putting a fresh band-aid on it each day and it seems to be healing fine.
I don't need ibuprofen anymore. They all seem to be healing ok, so more curiosity than concern I suppose. And yeah, the belly button biggest incision has got that healing itch I keep reading of. Ice packs help, but it hasn't been that bad.

2024.05.21 15:06 1000andonenites Throw Physics to the Dogs

Henry and Lisa sat intertwined on the couch, enjoying the movie. Lisa was an Eng Lit nerd, and at her request they were watching Macbeth. Henry loved her too much to complain, especially as Lisa looked so adorable when being intense and immersed.

“So that’s Lady Macbeth, - she really wants to be queen, so she’s gonna persuade Macbeth to kill the king- the old dude in the last scene”.

“The witches were cool- they told him to kill the king?” he asked frowning.

“No, no babe- they just told him he would become king. But they both know the only way for that to happen is for the current king to die, so that’s what they are plotting to do.” Henry was silent for a moment, letting the gibberish from the scene wash over him. He felt Lisa’s skin. It was so soft, and the colour was just so perfect. “So, it’s the witches' fault?”
Lisa smiled and her eyes widened at the screen. Then she sighed.

“True love. They love each other so much.” She snuggled up to Henry. “Would you kill someone because I asked you to?”
Henry felt the words were upside-down. “But Macbeth gets to be king? Why does the wife need to talk to him into it?” Lisa was so much more beautiful than the actress on the screen, it seemed only right that someone should kill for her. Lisa seemed lost in the wash of words from the screen.

“Knowing that someone is prepared to kill, to please you, to become a king…” she kissed Henry. Henry looked over her delicate shoulder at Macbeth’s frightened face as he drove a dagger into the sleeping king. Blood spurted everywhere, almost pouring out of the screen. He pulled back and looked at Lisa, who was glowing.

“Would you kill for me babe?” she asked, Henry felt confused.

“The highest mark of love. Modern society- emasculated men, men are too scared and weak to do anything like that- but it’s in all the old stories- to win the princess, you have to kill." Maybe she was joking?

“Who do you want me to kill babe?” he said, trying for a jokey tone.

“Babe- you don’t get it- this is for you. I don’t want you to do anything, you should want to do it! For yourself! ! To be a man!”

The actress on screen was bent over, crying out and Macbeth looked at the camera, confused. Henry suddenly stood up.

“I have to go- sorry- Lisa-” Lisa looked up at him, still smiling.

“You’re not him, are you?” she said kindly, and her eyes and lips seemed to twist together, just like the actress on the screen.

Henry fled. Lisa flopped back on the couch and sighed, The flush faded from her cheeks. Then, she sat up, pulled out her phone, and began swiping.
