Former Chief Geologist at First Quantum, MMG, and Chief Geoscientist at IGO Ltd.
TORONTO , May 1, 2024 /CNW/ - Power Nickel Inc. (the "Company" or "Power Nickel") (TSXV: PNPN) (OTCBB: PNPNF) (Frankfurt: IVV) is pleased to announce that internationally recognized geoscientist Dr. Steve Beresford has joined Power Nickel as a Special Advisor.
https://preview.redd.it/kc3xfev51txc1.jpg?width=276&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ec3894931b9e4a5b82d7f9fa4f174d4d1a1bf74
Dr. Steve Beresford's (FAIG FSEG) career includes being Chief Geologist of three major mining companies, a lecturer and professor, and the founder of several exploration companies. Steve began his exploration career at WMC Resources and has gone onto to do field exploration in 66 countries, largely for magmatic Nickel-Copper-PGE deposits. Steve is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia , and a board member of AGEMERA in Europe Canterbury ( New Zealand ).
"I first came across Dr. Beresford when my son flagged this YouTube video on Ni-Cu-PGE deposits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hxWbW2NVdc&ab_channel=GeologicalSocietyofAustraliaInc 1 Watching this video, I was so impressed by his knowledge and expertise on these types of deposits. I thought there were a lot of similarities with Nisk, and that Steve's expertise would be very beneficial if I could convince him of Nisk's potential to be a giant. Ken Williamson VP of Exploration and I had a technical discussion with Dr. Beresford, and we were able to convince him to help. I will let Steve describe in his own words why he has joined and from Power Nickel's perspective, we are very excited to work with, in our view, literally the top expert on the very type of discovery we have at Nisk. We are confident his knowledge will expedite our exploration program and understanding of Nisk to give us the best chance of success," commented Power Nickel CEO Terry Lynch
In explaining why he joined Power Nickel, Dr. Beresford said: "A base jumper needs over 500 solo dives to commence in a wing suit. I've spent my career working on all forms of Nickel sulfides across the world, working towards focusing on a higher value sub-type of Nickel deposits called Polymetallic Ni-Cu-PGE deposits, zoned high-grade metal deposits where Cu and noble metals (PGE, Au, Ag) form equivalent value to Nickel, not just credits. The world's two largest deposits of any metal are this type of deposit, Norilisk and Platreef. 2 Polymetallic deposits remain the premier deposit style through market cycles. NISK has the geodynamic setting and prospect scale characteristics of a zoned metal system, so I'm looking forward to joining the Power Nickel team as we advance and transform NISK into a polymetallic deposit."
As part of his compensation, Dr. Beresford will be paid an up-front $100,000 cash consulting fee for review of the Company's technical information over a period of 12 months and to provide other technical input as may be reasonably required and requested by the Company.
The Company anticipates conducting a further flow-through private placement (the "Private Placement") financing with Quebec investors through Wealth Creation Preservation & Donation Inc. ("WCPD"). WCPD worked with the Company on certain of its flow-through financings in 2023, as a less dilutive way for the Company to raise funds for exploration, with the common shares available for back-end purchase from the front-end flow-through purchasers. The Company plans to issue 250,000 flow-through units at a price of $0.80 per flow-through unit for gross proceeds of $200,000 $0.80 per common share for 3 years from the date of issuance. Each FT Share will qualify as a "flow-through share" for purposes of the Income Tax Act ( Canada ). All securities issued under the Private Placement will be subject to a four-month and one-day statutory hold period. The Private Placement is subject to the Company's receipt of TSX Venture Exchange approval.
The Company intends to use the gross proceeds for exploration activities on the Company's NISK property located in Quebec

What type of doctor should I see next?
Figured the best way to combat a 12k deductible is to get as much medical care as possible but I’m lost on what specialist to see next. I’ve been putting off so many different issues due to being low income being bounced around to specialists. I don’t know where to turn next. Every doctor sends me to a new specialist but nobody has been able to figure out my issues.
32 female, 5’4, 160 lbs (down from 210 in 2022) chronic groin and pelvic pain, uppemid abdominal pain that doesn’t seem food related but could be. Fatigue, general unwell feeling, active. Chest/rib pain that feels tender and sore, excruciating right shoulder and armpit, breast pain by the end of the day. Back ache, lower abdominal bloating, irregular heavy periods. Pregnancy (7 years ago) seemed to put some symptoms at bay but they returned with a vengeance.
I’ve seen gynecologists(referred to pelvic pain clinic and ordered mammogram and ultrasound to check for hernias), gastroenterology (found an ulcer and I’ve been on Prilosec), Rheumatology (referred to dermatology for skin rashes after x-rays were normal), orthopedics (referred to physical therapy for shoulder pain).
No recent illnesses, have been “healthy” for the longest stretch in a while (4-6 weeks)

2024.05.01 13:38 jellybean83087 FIREd 36F SINK 2nd Year Update

TL DR: FIREd in May 2022 with $885k, current NW is $1M. Last year’s expenses totaled $28k. I slowly road tripped along the west coast of US and spent two months in Canada. Recently sold my car, downsized material possessions, and moved to Japan. I am now attending a Japanese language school for a year. This is a great way to explore a new country, challenge my brain, and gain access to social networks.
Background: Click here for the link to my first year update.
Life Update: In 2023, I slowly road tripped along the west coast of US and spent two months in Canada. I started from Seattle and drove up north to Vancouver and Calgary. Spent a month in each city. Joined the local hiking Meetup groups and explored the numerous hiking trails around the cities. Among one of my best experiences in Vancouver was training with a local dragon boat team. After Canada, I drove down south all the way to San Diego. I picked up my best friend at San Fran, and we toured around CA for two weeks before stopping in San Diego. I stayed in San Diego for a month after my friend left, and then flew to the east coast to spend a few weeks with family.
Recently I’ve sold my car, downsized my material possessions, and moved to Japan. In my update last year, I had mentioned two issues post-FIRE. The first issue is the lack of social interactions and the second is the lack of brain stimulation. Moving to Japan and studying Japanese is my solution to both of them. I just started attending a Japanese language school and will be here for a year. This is a great way to explore a new country, utilize my intellect, and meet new people in a community environment.
Finances: I FIREd two years ago with $885k. NW is currently hovering around $1M. Hurray!! And a big pat to myself for joining the two-comma club! My 2023 expenses totaled $28k. I aim to spend below the 4% SWR, but it’s not a strict rule. Other than having about two years’ worth of expenses (~$70k) in cash, the rest of my assets are in index funds, VTSAX. The funds are held in a mix of tax efficient retirement and taxable brokerage accounts.
People often ask how I manage to keep my expenses so low. My largest expenses are housing, transportation, and food. I find that as long as I keep these three categories under control the rest of my budget is easy. 1) For housing, I try to spend on average $1,500 or less each month on hotels and Airbnbs. Airbnb hosts will often give a large discount to monthly renters. In Japan, I am renting a bedroom in a shared house for $600 per month. The house is located in the heart of the city and within walking distance of my school. I’m enjoying it so far. 2) Transportation-wise, last year I had my little Honda fit and drove it all around the US and into Canada. It was a fully paid off car so I only had to pay for gas, maintenance, and insurance. That averaged around $200 per month. I sold the car for $10k prior to my move and am solely relying on public transit in Japan. 3) Food costs were about $300 per month last year. I mostly bought groceries and cooked rather than eating out. I try to eat out with friends and when I find a restaurant that I want to try. My food costs will likely go up in Japan since there are so many good restaurants. Generally restaurants in Japan are much cheaper than the US due to the strong dollar and lack of tipping culture. Rather than focusing on saving, I’m trying to flex my spending muscle in order to spend more on food experiences. Instead of having a spending limit, I’m going to force myself to use up $500 or more each month on food. This will be an interesting social/financial experiment. Shout out to Ramit Sethi, the Mad Finentist, and the guys at MileHighFI podcast for the inspiration to initiate this spending change.
Since the cost of living in Japan is much lower compared to the US, I’ll be using the remainder of my budget to explore the nearby cities and countries.
Health Insurance: I understand that this topic is a big concern. Here’s my situation. In the US, I am relying on Medicaid for health insurance. The state that I am based out of has expended Medicaid, which just requires a low income. My only source of income is dividends from my taxable brokerage accounts and interest income from HYSA. Added up they are usually around the Federal Poverty Level. Additionally, unless you are a senior citizen, there are no maximums for financial assets. Medicaid rules vary from state to state so YMMV.
Upon arriving in Japan with a long-term student visa, I’ve gained access to the National Health insurance. Overall, Japan’s healthcare costs are much lower than that of the US. The national insurance gives me 70% off all medical and pharmaceutical expenses while in Japan. As an example of how cheap medical services are here, I recently went to a clinic for allergies and paid $7 for the doctor visit and $5 for the medication he prescribed. It was such a relief to not feel like I’m being robbed after seeing a medical professional.
Plans for the near future: After spending a year in Japan, I will continue to slowly travel around Asia, Australia, and Europe. I am aiming to spend weeks to months in each place. I find that slow traveling is much more enjoyable and affordable since you can get weekly/monthly discounts on hotels and short-term rentals.
Reflections and Random thoughts:
Thank you for reading my long rambling update. It feels nice to organize my thoughts on paper. Hopefully my experiences can be of help to some of you or at least entertain you. Given the 13hr+ time difference, I’ll try my best to answer any questions before going to bed and will pick it up again tomorrow morning.

2024.05.01 13:35 LongjumpingWinter710 Don't want to eat regular food at all

I (25F, 162cm, CW=80kgs GW=50kgs) am a really good cook and everyone in my house is a good cook. I got fat due to eating too much of healthy, homemade food. However I also like processed food. Still I used to like homemade food way more than processed and would choose homemade 80% of the time over processed, packaged food.
However as I am paying attention to my diet, food portions, getting serious about my weight loss, I really don't want to eat homemade food. It is not like that it is unhealthy or can't fit into my calorie limits. Just I feel like if I want to eat a specific taste and the food I made doesn't taste exactly the way I want, I feel like I wasted so much of my calorie budget for a food that didn't even satisfy me.
Rather than spending time cooking and being disappointed about the food, I would rather eat packaged food as it tastes the same all the time. Or I would rather just eat a carrot or a latte than having a meal that won't make me happy.
Because of this I am not eating my meals properly, which directly is affecting my snacking habits (which I was trying to improve). I snack a lot because I have not had a proper meal and I don't want a proper meal because I have been snacking so much that I am not hungry, but I am not full either.
I have no idea what to do. If I can start eating proper meals again, I can eat within my calorie limits and lose weight. But as I am snacking here and there, I don't know how much calories I am eating and my scale has gone up too.
Please suggest what can I do to start eating or be attracted towards homemade food again?

2024.05.01 13:34 SilentbobZA African bank vs capitec fixed deposit account or 32 day notice account or a flexible savings investment account with PPS

So the wife and I have plus minus 150k that we don't necessarily need in the next 18 months.
We don't want the money to just sit in a bank account and do nothing. We have already maxed out both our TFSA for the year.
So what would be the best course of action to do with this funds for the next 18 months? We might want to purchase a property and start with a family in the next 2 years so hence the funds should be available after 18 months without any fees.
What I've looked at is to start an investment account with PPS that is specifically tailored for short term, hence no limitations, and have a high level of risk strategy to maximize the possible gain. Maybe start with 100k there and add more each month with disposable income.
And then have a small amount, 50k, in a fixed deposit account or 32 day notice account? Lower risk with guaranteed returns. So this will either be with capitec (my current bank) or open an account with African bank as I see they offer very good rates.
Or all of the funds in an investment account or all of the funds in a deposit/32 day notice account?
I have very limited financial knowledge so I'm happy for any feedback or advice please.

How much are the post office fixed deposit interest rates?
https://preview.redd.it/uf9bxklrssxc1.jpg?width=650&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a671afbd078d0254a7d0631832b9909d323616b9
Post Office Fixed Deposit (FD) Interest Rates Explained Simply
Looking to park your money safely and earn some interest? Post office FDs might be a good option for you! Here's a quick breakdown of their interest rates:
  • Rates: Post office FD interest rates range from 6.9% to 7.5% per year (p.a.). The exact rate you get depends on how long you invest your money (tenure).
  • Tenure: You can choose a tenure (lock-in period) from 1 year to 5 years. Generally, longer tenures offer slightly higher interest rates.
  • Example: Let's say you invest ₹ 10,000 for 3 years at 7.25% p.a. After 3 years, you'll get your ₹ 10,000 back plus interest earned, which would be around ₹ 2,175 (calculated annually).
Here are some key points to remember
  • Sovereign Guarantee: Post office FDs are a safe investment because they're backed by the Government of India, minimizing the risk of losing your money.
  • Minimum and Maximum Deposit: There's a minimum deposit of ₹ 1,000, but no maximum limit. You can invest as much as you'd like.
  • Interest Payment: You can choose to receive interest payouts annually, quarterly, or even monthly.
Is a Post Office FD Right for You?
Consider these factors before deciding:
  • Investment Goal: If you need your money readily accessible, an FD might not be ideal. Once your money is locked in, you typically face penalties for early withdrawal.
  • Risk Tolerance: If you're comfortable with some risk, you might explore bank FDs that may offer slightly higher interest rates.
  • Tax Benefits: Post office tax saving FDs (like Monthly Income Scheme) offer tax deductions under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act, but come with specific lock-in periods.
Getting Started with Post Office FDs
  • Visit your local post office branch.
  • Ask about the different FD schemes available and choose the one that suits your needs.
  • Fill out the application form and submit it along with your deposit amount.
Remember, interest rates can change, so it's always a good idea to check with your local post office for the latest rates before investing.

2024.05.01 13:18 Puginator CVS posts big earnings miss, cuts profit outlook on higher medical costs

CVS Health on Wednesday reported first-quarter revenue and adjusted earnings that missed expectations and slashed its full-year profit outlook, citing higher medical costs that are dogging the U.S. insurance industry.
Shares of the company dropped 10% in premarket trading.
The drugstore chain expects 2024 adjusted earnings of at least $7 per share, down from a previous guidance of at least $8.30 per share. Analysts surveyed by LSEG were expecting full-year adjusted profit of $8.28 per share.
CVS also cut its unadjusted earnings guidance to at least $5.64 per share, down from at least $7.06 per share.
The company said its new outlook assumes that higher medical costs in its insurance business during the first quarter will persist throughout the year. CVS owns health insurer Aetna.
Still, CVS CEO Karen Lynch said in a statement that the “the current environment does not diminish our opportunities, enthusiasm, or the long-term earnings power of our company.” The company is confident “we have a pathway to address our near-term Medicare Advantage challenges,” she added.
Insurers such as Humana and UnitedHealth Group have seen medical costs spike as more Medicare Advantage patients return to hospitals for procedures they delayed during the pandemic, such as joint and hip replacements.
Medicare Advantage, a privately run health insurance plan contracted by Medicare, has long been a key source of growth and profits for the insurance industry. But investors have become more concerned about the runaway costs associated with those plans, which cover more than half of all Medicare beneficiaries.
Here’s what CVS reported for the first quarter compared with what Wall Street was expecting, based on a survey of analysts by LSEG:
Earnings per share: $1.31 adjusted vs. $1.69 expected
Revenue: $88.44 billion vs. $89.21 billion expected
CVS reported net income of $1.12 billion, or 88 cents per share, for the first quarter. That compares with net income of $2.14 billion, or $1.65 per share, for the same period a year ago.
Excluding certain items, such as amortization of intangible assets and capital losses, adjusted earnings per share were $1.31 for the quarter.
CVS booked sales of $88.44 billion for the quarter, up nearly 4% from the year-earlier period. That increase was driven by its pharmacy business and insurance unit.
Meanwhile, CVS said sales in its health services segment, which includes the pharmacy benefit manager Caremark, declined during the period. That was mainly due to the loss of a large unnamed client, the company noted.
In January, Tyson Foods said it had dropped CVS’s Caremark and instead chose PBM startup Rightway to manage drug benefits for its 140,000 employees starting this year. That came months after Blue Shield of California, one of the largest in the nation’s most populous state, also dropped Caremark and instead partnered with Amazon Pharmacy and Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs company.
Those decisions add to an upheaval in the health-care industry, as startups promising lower costs and transparency challenge the largest PBMs and pressure them to change their own business models.
The first-quarter results come as CVS pushes to transform from a major drugstore chain into a large health-care company. CVS deepened that push over the last year with its nearly $8 billion acquisition of health-care provider Signify Health and a $10.6 billion deal to buy Oak Street Health, which operates primary-care clinics for seniors.
Pressure on insurance unit
CVS’ health insurance segment generated $32.24 billion in revenue during the quarter, a more than 24% increase from the first quarter of 2023. The division includes plans by Aetna for the Affordable Care Act, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid, as well as dental and vision.
Sales blew past analysts’ estimate of $30.69 billion for the period, according to StreetAccount.
But the insurance division reported adjusted operating income of just $732 million for the first quarter. That is well below analysts’ expectation of $1.19 billion, according to FactSet.
The segment’s medical benefit ratio — a measure of total medical expenses paid relative to premiums collected — increased to 90.4% from 84.6% a year earlier. A lower ratio typically indicates that the company collected more in premiums than it paid out in benefits, resulting in higher profitability.
Analysts had expected that ratio to be 88.4%, according to FactSet estimates.
CVS said the rise was mainly driven by increased utilization of Medicare Advantage and the “unfavorable impact” of the company’s Medicare Advantage star ratings. Those ratings help Medicare patients compare the quality of Medicare health and drug plans.
CVS added that an additional day in 2024 due to the leap year also contributed to the higher medical benefit ratio.
Health services, pharmacy businesses miss
The company’s health services segment generated $40.29 billion in revenue for the quarter, a nearly 10% drop compared with the same quarter in 2023.
The division includes CVS Caremark, which negotiates drug discounts with manufacturers on behalf of insurance plans, along with health-care services delivered in medical clinics, through telehealth and at home.
Those sales were in line analysts’ estimate of $40.29 billion in revenue for the period, according to FactSet.
CVS said the decline was driven in part by the loss of the unnamed client and “continued pharmacy client price improvements.” The decrease was partially offset by growth in Oak Street Health, Signify Health and specialty pharmacy services, which help patients who are suffering from complex disorders and require specialized therapy.
The health services division processed 462.9 million pharmacy claims during the quarter, down from the 587.3 million during the year-ago period.
CVS’s pharmacy and consumer wellness division booked $28.73 billion in sales for the first quarter, up almost 3% from the same period a year earlier. That segment dispenses prescriptions in CVS’ more than 9,000 brick-and-mortar retail pharmacies and provides other pharmacy services, such as diagnostic testing and vaccination.
Analysts had expected the division to bring in $29.5 billion in sales, according to FactSet.
The company said the rise was primarily driven by heightened prescription volume, including increased contributions from vaccinations. Pharmacy reimbursement pressure, the launch of new generic drugs and decreased front-store volume, among other factors, weighed on the division’s sales.

2024.05.01 13:15 SalytheSailor Serious information about Pondicherry University

The teaching staff is very discriminatory. I'm from Rajasthan and General category, and the treatment i got from the teachers was so bad. In the first class, our HOD said "if you go aganst the department, the department will play the court better" like what? They straight up threatened us to do whatever they say without questioning.
And the first advice our seniors gave us was "Don't ever make the professors angry, just do what they say"
The cleaning staff from hostels, and other working people there, including the shop keepers, were all very nice people. But the educated lot absolutely sucks.
I'm telling you right now, if you're like me and thinking "i want exposure and opportunities to grow" than this is NOT the place. I don't know about any other universities, but only people who come from minority are given favours here. The HoD explicitly said that others do not DESERVE to be taught by him since the people from General Category have dominated for so many years. It's a total scam. I dropped after 2 months.
They give good food in mess for only the first few days, and then the food + the hygiene is SO FREAKING BAD that i got typhoid. The water coolers in hostel are RIGHT beside the freaking washrooms.
And don't even get me started on the community bullshit of these people. During the durga puja fest, a girl came to our room and asked for donation and the pamplet said "ONLY FOR BENGALI PEOPLE"
The caste discrimination is not limited to teachers but is also TAUGHT to students indirectly I dare say.
I'm not in position to represent anyone, but if you're from North, you are going to face it. And if you have other options, please consider.
IMPORTANT - keep in mind the time limit for withdrawal of admission with full fee return! If you check out the place in 1 month and it doesn't satisfy you, you MUST leave in 1 month.

2024.05.01 13:12 knowgood Taking luggage on UK tube and trains

Hi, Everyone,
Let me start by saying how grateful I am to the London Reddit community for how helpful you’ve been while I plan my first visit to the UK. I'm super excited for my trip!
My latest question is about luggage on public transit.
Clothing I know I should travel light but I will be in the UK for three weeks, going to several kinds of events while I am there.
Cooking Also, I have digestive issues that require I make most of my own food. I plan to buy kitchen implements (such as a food processor) and cook at the places I’m staying. I will need to bring these supplies with me for a few trips on the train. I'll donate them to my UK host before I return to the USA.
My Itinerary I’ll be taking the tube from Heathrow to Kings Cross when I arrive, then the train to Letchworth, the train to Edinburgh, then back to Letchworth, then back to London for a few days, and finally to Heathrow. I would take taxis but I am trying to stick to a tight budget.
Luggage Rules One online resource I found said I could bring two full-size suitcases on all UK trains. Another resource said there is actually very limited space for luggage on UK trains. Which is it? Does it depend on the train? I'm aware that space on the tube is always tight.
Off-peak I aim to be on any trains or tube during off-peak hours whenever possible, both for cheaper tickets and so that I am not in the way of local UK people trying to get where they need to go.
Thanks very much for your help with my questions :)

Expectations: CMRX's earnings per share of -$0.25 fell short of the average analyst estimate of -$0.22 for the quarter. The lack of reported revenue and specific financial metrics such as gross profit and net income makes it difficult to fully assess performance against expectations, but the EPS miss is clear.

2024.05.01 13:08 Invest_Smartly Do You Know What Is Leave Travel Allowance

Leave Travel Allowance (LTA) is a type of allowance provided by employers to employees to cover their travel expenses when they are on leave from work.
Here are some key points about LTA:
  1. Purpose: LTA is designed to facilitate travel for employees and their families within India during their leave periods. It helps employees manage the expenses of travel and provides an opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation.
  2. Eligibility: Eligibility for LTA varies across organizations and is usually outlined in the employment contract or company policy. Typically, employees need to have completed a certain tenure with the company to be eligible.
  3. Tax Exemption: LTA is tax-exempt under certain conditions. The exemption is applicable for travel expenses incurred on domestic travel, and the exemption is limited to the actual travel costs incurred by the employee and their family. The exemption is subject to specific conditions laid down by the Income Tax Act.
  4. Claiming LTA: Employees can claim LTA from their employers by submitting relevant travel bills and documents. The amount of LTA that can be claimed might also be subject to a maximum limit based on the company policy or employment terms.
  5. Carry Forward: LTA benefits often have a carry-forward provision, allowing employees to accumulate unclaimed LTA for a certain number of years and utilize it in subsequent years.
It's important to refer to your company's HR policies or consult with your employer's finance team for specific details on Leave Travel Allowance entitlements and procedures within your organization.

2024.05.01 13:06 Timtimtim-fr Red Dead Redemption 2 sucks, Red Dead Redemption 3 needs to be better

Hello everyone, sorry for the provocative title. RDR2 is by no means a shitty game, but it has so many glaring issues to the point that I really don’t understand the rave reviews. I had much more pleasure playing RDR1. So, I’d like to not just complain but be constructive by pointing out what Rockstar should do regarding the sequel.

Realism

There is some schizophrenia in RDR2 regarding realism. I had to check on the internet many times if I was missing something.
An animal carcass carried on your horse will decay BUT any raw meat you keep in your satchel will last perpetually.
You have to click twice for firing with a single action revolver BUT you didn’t have to if you were dual-wielding. And why cock the hammer and pull the trigger with the same button ? This is completely unintuitive.
You can carry more ammo by getting ammo pouches, BUT you still keep the increased capacity if you unequip the pouches.
There is a long animation to loot a body, BUT ammos are magically teleported in your inventory when you walk on it. And no animation if you change your outfit.
Baits don't make animals magically appear out of nowhere like in RDR1. But if an animal is nearby, why bother with baits ? Maybe you should be able to set up traps.
I was robbed in Saint Denis, I tried a warning shot to stop the thief and I got my ass wanted instead.
Your horse is blind, it shouldn't collide onto trees that much.
The wanted system is completely f***** up. In a game that allows you to wear masks and many disguises, you’re completely unable to hide your identity. Lawmen now have gps and will pinpoint you extremely quickly each time you try to rob a train.
Realism feels too much like a beta testing at times. Rockstar should have made things more intuitive and coherent. Make some "realistic" features optionnal in the settings. Maybe put some tutorial prompts that prevent you from making a mistake the first time.

Graphics

Graphics RDR2 are almost perfect, except maybe some rock textures that aren’t very good. RDR2 is a really beautiful game.

Music

Excellent. The sound effects are very well done.

Story

Very good, but linear Seems more fitted for a movie or a tv show than to an open world game.

Weapons

I find silly that some guns don’t have their real-life name and have some differences. The Lancaster is obviously a Winchester modified with an octagonal barrel.
Regarding customization, the game doesn’t allow you to fully replicate guns with basic finishes that are still sold nowadays. There is no hardened steel finish, and that’s a huge oversight. Some components are missing, the cattleman (colt 1873) frame should have been split into three : the frame, the trigger guard and the backstrap.
Ammos don’t make sense in this game. First keep their real name. Instead of ludicrously having a bunch of ammos types for the same gun, you should have several ammos types for the same kind of gun. You should have revolvers with different calibers. For the same gun , there should be no more than regular ammo, explosive rounds and maybe hollow point. Why not a regular and a special ammo for each gun, that would make each gun more unique.

PC port

Keybinding if you play with keyboard and mouse is infuriating. You can bind each individual action to a button, but you have no idea which actions can be stacked on the same button. Why not have an easy set up prompt, where you choose the equivalent of each controller button : mouse left click for right trigger, mouse right click for left trigger etc. This would have made things so much easier.
And add auto aim with mouse, but only at the moment you draw the gun from your holster. Controller users are quicker to react when they are ambushed.

Inventory management

Why can’t I have more than five cans of apricots while I still can have both 5 cans of apricots and 5 cans of corned beef ? Why can’t I be a vegan cowboy ?
Jokes aside, the inventory amount system is silly and not realistic. Item amount should be limited by weight and/or encumbrance. Some items types shouldn’t be mandatory, and players should make choices about what to keep and what to leave. Don’t force player to eat all the time and instead make items optional and useful.
Bring back the health system from RDR1. Food don’t heal you in real life, food prevent you from dying of hunger. Some tonics in RDR2 are even more powerful than some potions in The Witcher 3.
Allow fast travel on horse from anywhere peaceful at the cost of eating something.
You should keep cigars in you damn mouth instead of throwing them up just after lighting. Tobacco and tonics should work as a buff for a few minutes.
You should be able to loot guns from enemies to sell them.

Gameplay loop

The main gameplay loop hasn’t really changed since GTA 3.
While the story is great, it is fitting to a more linear game. There’s plenty of things you can do between missions that will completely contradict the plot. Missions in this kind of open world should be more open-ended, leaving more room for the player to be creative.
This game need more side content. The open world is too empty, I'm not talking about the technical aspect or the rich details, its gameplay value is too low. The world is probably too big, the inclusion of New Austin is barely justified.
There should be a karma meter and a reputation meter. And both should impact the gameplay and the plot in a clever way. Why are some outfits locked behind honor requirement ? What’s the point of robbing if you can’t just buy everything ?
Also, the game is very tedious for the sake of it :
In conclusion, I’d say RDR2 is not a realistic game, there are some realistic aspects while still having some very video-gamey features at the cost of arbitrary tediousness.
This tediousness is often there on purpose because the game designers don't want you to play a certain way. They don't want you to get easy money, they don't want you to fast travel, they don't want you to miss the little details. But what about freedom ? What about enjoyment ?
RDR2 doesn’t know what it wants to be. A linear narrative game or an open world ? A realistic survival game ? A simulation ? A role-playing game ? The game design feels disjointed at best.
Rockstar focused too much on details and new features while neglecting the cohesion of the bigger picture. I don’t want to play just another cowboy GTA 3 with outstanding graphics, horses that shit and coffee brewing.
Rockstar wanted to make the greatest open world of yesterday whereas they should have made the open world of tomorrow. They should have left their comfort zone instead of making an ego trip game.

2024.05.01 13:02 AccomplishedPain3611 Making a Choice Between Braces and Invisalign for Teens and Adults

Have you made up your mind to start the adventure of getting straight teeth? If yes, then two paths will open for you. One is the Portland braces. But there's another less-known option called Invisalign. As an adult or teenager, deciding between these two orthodontic choices is not easy. So, we are happy to help you by listing out the differences between the two.
Appearance
Invisalign is a kind of transparent aligner. Therefore, they are not easily noticed by people. These less noticeable dental gear are popular among grown-ups and teens who do not like braces much.
Regular braces are more visible because they have metal brackets and wires. However, you can select options such as ceramic braces that align with the color of your teeth more closely.
Comfort
Invisalign, the aligners that are used for straightening teeth, are made from smooth material and are personalized to fit in your mouth.
On the contrary, at first, Portland braces can feel unpleasant because of wires and brackets that might annoy the inside part of your mouth. But most individuals get used to this uneasiness after some time.
Eating Habits
You can eliminate the food-related limitations by taking out the aligners when you eat. After eating, clean your teeth and put the aligners back in.
Avoid edible items that could cause damage to the braces, such as chewing gum or hard candies. It can be more difficult to maintain clean teeth with braces on.
Maintenance
Invisalign is not an effortless solution. You must pay careful attention to cleaning your teeth and the aligners, or else you might develop dental issues. Braces also require meticulous and thorough cleaning, particularly around the brackets and wires. It is a task that can demand significant time.
Duration
The time span for treatment will differ, usually depending on how frequently and regularly you use the transparent dental aligners. The goal is to wear Milwaukie Invisalign for 20-22 hours every day and change them out either weekly or bi-weekly. On the other hand, conventional braces are normally kept on for a longer time, typically between 18 months and 3 years. Also, you must wear them all the time for better tooth positioning.
Adjustments
When you get a series of aligners, maybe every two weeks, it means fewer visits to the dentist. You still have to go for regular check-ups. For braces, you need frequent visits for adjustments and tightening, usually every month.
Parting Words
If you are still uncertain, inquire with your orthodontist to provide guidance in selecting between Milwaukie Invisalign and braces. It is important that you seek advice from an experienced orthodontist who possesses an appropriate understanding of your dental structure so as to assist in making the correct decision.

2024.05.01 13:00 AutoModerator What Could it Be Wednesday 05/01/2024

Alright folks, it's that time of the week again, so let's get ready fooooor...

WHAT COULD IT BE WEDNESDAY!

Alright folks, now rules are simple for this, as this is just gonna be a fun little game for this sub for suit predictions for tonight's banner.
Now, as for the prize... seeing as how I'm not exactly flush with disposable income outside of being able to afford a gunpla hobby and my gaming stuff... anyone who gets it right will be able to request a user-flair with an ace nickname of their own design. If you can't think of one, just DM me a screenshot of your best game or tell me your favorite unit, map, and what UC faction you love the most and I'll think of something for you. Obviously, I won't participate myself since I already have an Ace nickname... and I'm a mod, so I can just change my user flair whenever the hell I want to anyway.
Of course, if you've won one of these already, I'll still reward you with a change to your user flair by adding a 'kill' tally to your flair. Every time you get it right after earning your flair, you'll get how many times you guessed correctly recorded, so it'll look like 'User Flair Name - 2' if you've got 2 right, etc, etc.
Now get to guessing folks! Let's see if anyone is earning an ace distinction this week, and yes, you need to get both the suit and the type (General/Raid/Support) correct for it to count.

2024.05.01 13:00 FinalBicycle160 Investing in yourself

With multiple Js comes disposable income. After paying off debts, maxing retirement, and building a healthy savings balance, how do you budget whats left? It's easy to say "put all the extra income into investment accounts and retire early" but practically speaking, some self re-investment goes a long way towards bettering mental and physical health. Things like a better workstation, healthier food, therapy (mental and/or physical), personal trainer, equipment for hobbies, vacations, etc - arguably these are "lifestyle creep" but they also make life better, allowing you to more healthily manage the stress of multiple Js. How do you balance what you set aside for the future versus what you spend now on yourself?
I grew up very frugal so spending on myself isn't natural to me - I'm a little worried that if I dont spend some on myself then I'll start to burn out on 2 Js (read: I am starting to burn out, and am looking for ways to reverse the trend). Is there any kind of rule of thumb e.g. "direct deposit half of J2 pay into an investment account, and the other half into a fun money account" that folks use and find helpful? Is there anything "lifestyle-creep"-like that you spent money on that has paid dividends, and you dont regret?

2024.05.01 12:56 Vridiantoast Nova Wars tie-in: part 19

Good morning everyone! Once again I return bearing this little conglomeration of words called a short story based in Ralt’s universe. If you missed the First Part, or the last part, I suggest going back and reading that.
Happy Wednesday everyone. Past two days have been very busy, and I didn’t touch my notes at all to proofread until this morning. As such, I am posting with a skimmed proofread, and will be taking a break until next Monday. I’ll try to use what extra time I have to flesh out the next few chapters to keep up with the tedious schedule, but when working full time it’s hard to keep typing when you have to run around.
Ive also updated the fleet makeup post to reflect current numbers. I’d appreciate some help with names for the cruisers. Link will be at the end of the post.
Anyway, without further adieu, here’s today’s chapter, and I’ll see you all Monday! ——————————————————
“With the blessing of Terra, and the help of our clone forces showing us the proper way to get the defense systems to accept us, we had civilians landed at planets throughout the system by the beginning of the second month. Those that didn’t want to join the war effort were asked to take up farming and construction for the incoming refugees, something that would help ease the minds of those that had seen horror firsthand. We had our share of Ex-pirates and mercenaries that caused some issues, but after a conversation with Admiral Bannon, Rear Admiral Hanson, and myself, their animosity towards us turned toward the common foe for the time being. They’d still be an issue at times, but any demand they provided was usually for a good reason, and soon they had set up a shady, yet functional, planetary government. They stayed on the edge of the system’s rule book, normally tending to themselves unless they needed something.
It wasn’t until the return of the system’s Digital Sentiences that the Pirates would fall in line and become citizens instead of outlaws. The Talons of Freedom had just started its shakedown cruise when the call came over the wireless. Full metal Automatons had been found in a old station, had gone semi-hostile, and they needed help convincing these “Cylons” as they called it, that the revenge war they were put to sleep for had never materialized. The situation was still cold, but there was a threat of combat unless we stepped in. In fairness, it is always wise to distrust a pirate, but that’s why we usually arrived in force. The planet was a gas giant on the edge of the system, and we had been happy to let the pirates set up an outpost there if they wanted. As I was the closest, and with growing reports of a different type of ship hovering above the planet, I jumped into orbit immediately aboard the fully repaired and recently up-gunned Caerus, as opposed to the Talons of Freedom, in order to try to keep the situation from boiling over.
As it turned out Bannon had dealt with this subsect of humanity before. He sent instructions to me from the Wings of Security, sitting at the dockyard ready to jump with the fleet, that I followed to the letter. The talk was tense. I was forced into the same position old Commodore Hannon had when he needed to explain what all had been missed. I was surprised to learn that the DS crews were able to gather the information before I had even arrived, but my sincerity had been the winning factor. It wasn’t long after that they said they’d help rebuild the system and train up crews. Their look had most of us uneasy. Sure, the frame was humanoid. But there was a major tactical issue. That issue being; these Cylons were pure metal, mostly digital sentient copies that uploaded themselves into robotic frames to fight as extra manpower.
Sadly, they also told us they’d stand out like sore thumbs in combat against the Mar-gite, which was a hard pill to swallow. Nobody wanted to have them be such a beacon for the enemy, but counter argument was the upside was that all a DS had to do was download themselves into a new frame once one was lost, as long as they had the time to do so. As such, they became a integral part of the battle plan. The clone troopers would set up kill zones and ambushes during boarding actions as the Cylon troops lured clueless Mar-gite straight to them. In addition, we were able to spread out the DS numbers to the task force, and later the fleet, to help with the issues of EM hash aboard vessels, as well as coordination of Centurion models. On top of that, production of VIs for ammunition could also begin in earnest. For the time being it was limited to missiles and torpedos, due to the DS assigned to the ship needing to program each VI individually and set a sleep mode until launch. This took up a great deal of extra time for them, but many enjoyed it.
Admiral Bannon decided that if we were to go on the attack it would be best to have our Columbia sister ships sail together. Slowly, our task force took shape. We’d leave the fleet in the Helius systems to act as a local system guard until the Columbia class ships finished production. It was decided the corvettes and frigates would stay to man the defense fleet, to train up new crews from the volunteer forces, and we took the cruisers with us instead. Eventually the goal was to combine the fleet and have them work in unison, but that would take time the confederacy just didn’t have. The front line was still being pushed, and if we didn’t step in to help the whole sector could be overrun.
Clone troopers were born whole, given their colors, and send to a freighter to train back up and wait for the offensive. By the time we got orders to go on the attack, we had a force of five billion clone troopers ready to go. The Cylons had ten thousand reserve combat frames, and two thousand active combat frames r day to go. The number seems large, but in terms of scale? It was enough to attack one system and confidently hold it for only a few days from counter attack, but not much more without support. Be that as it may, we were needed. I gave the order to assemble to jump out as the first new Columbia battlestar was being laid down at Hannon’s dockyard.
The Mar-gite would pay for the planets we lost. Even if we had to pay it back planet by planet. It didn’t matter we didn’t have a whole fleet. We’d fight as hard as we could. Lives depended on it.”

2024.05.01 12:55 TheMortgageMaster TOTM 6: Five Costly Mistakes

Welcome to May, and TOTM 6, where I highlight five costly areas I see more often than not. But first, a quick reminder of these Topics Of The Month. My aim is to discuss more in depth topics aside from rates, and I look forward to your questions and comments. Start HERE for past topics.

  1. Self employment: My top 3 client profiles are IT professionals, lawyers, and accountants. These 3 fields are by far the most common where someone starts out as a fulltime employee, then branches out to self employment. Remember it’s imperative you don’t switch from fulltime to self employed while trying to get a mortgage. Self employed requires a 2 year average by the vast majority of lenders. Some exceptions can be made, but the word exception itself tells you to not rely on this. Self employment has many advantages, but if you’re hoping to get a mortgage in the next 1 to 2 years, heed the advice and save yourself a tonne of headaches, and possibly costly alternative lenders. Also, don't forget to pay yourself enough or you might end up saving on taxes, but forced to pay more for your mortgage.
  2. Not rebuilding your credit: First off, think long and hard before declaring bankruptcy or going into consumer proposal, especially when it’s lower amounts. Second, realize you’ll need 2 major credit cards, with a minimum limit of $2,000, for a minimum of 2 years, just for lenders to see you are working on re-establishing your credit. Of course pay all of your bills on time.
  3. Not declaring all incomes: This goes for not claiming rent, tips, or any other number of sources. Not only is this tax evasion and you could pay for it dearly one day, but absolutely don't expect to get the lowest rate mortgage, with only 5% down. Yes you can make the mortgage payments, but if the income isn't declared, it can't be used.
  4. Not shopping around at renewal: Just like cell phones and home/auto insurance, some people believe if you've been with a lender for a while, they'll see you as a loyal customer and they'll offer you their best. And it's simply not true.
  5. Parental influence: Boy oh boy. Parents are awesome, and God bless them. But good lord, the misinformation they carry with them from 30 years ago is not just awful, but it can be very costly. It very often leads to the poor kids confused and anxiety ridden. Parents if you’re reading this, you want to help your kids, or if you’re helping with the down payment and you want a say in their mortgage, the best thing you can do is help interview a couple of brokers and a couple of bank reps, and then simply back off. Government regulations, lender policies, and markets change very quickly, and they'll never stop changing. Even a mortgage broker with decades of experience, that has recently retired, will have stale information very quickly. Your meddling will almost always lead to more trouble.

Questions and comments? I'm all ears.

Have a great month.

2024.05.01 12:45 matejpacan I'm about to recode Evernote Legacy

I have 12 years of Java experience (very close to native speeds, work on mac/linux/win) and I am seriously considering coding Evernote Legacy rebirth clone matching all Legacy features complete with an importer (with bypass for the 100 note limit).
Not sure if there would be an interest, let me know below or upvote this post.
My biggest fear is spending 3 months developing with little to no interest. Unless we raise funds on kickstarter or elsewhere I am not willing to take my own money for adspend and marketing into this.
The app would be free in beta and then maybe for a minimum fee to cover developer salaries. I already have income from my company MineAcademy.
I was not able to find anything better than Evernote (tried joplin, obsidian, onenote etc. it just does not feel and behave the same). The new version is severely slower and limited than legacy.

2024.05.01 12:44 Smooth-Weakness6572 Ditching retail

Trying to narrow down options. I've found a few places that I'm curious about:
West Capital Lending
E Mortgage Capital
Coast 2 Coast
Arbor Financial Group
Personal goals are to increase product mix. Hire my own loa/processor for my team. (really don't want to lose my current employee for last 5 years, she's great). Be able to do some commercial loans from time to time. Heloans, Helocs, hard money. Not ask permission for every god damn thing. I'm 100% self gen, got caught in several mergers which really distracted my business.
W2
I have to go W2 but thinking of starting my own processing/marketing company and billing my branch so I can set a low"ish" personal comp for w2 income. Assume I can set up a net branch anywhere to pay for my limit lead gen, tech, mbs highway, CRM if good one not provided, closing gifts, pay renewals and licensing fees, marketing supplies... Then bill my branch (from my marketing/processing company) for support from my wife to keep branch profits from all hitting me as w2 income? Does this work?
Team
I have a couple low self producing LOs that mostly acted as juniors. One mostly broke off 2 years ago (he still works some of my files that I cannot get to), other two more recently. I still want to allow them to work my files with comp splits, but probably can both earn more once out of retail.
Just starting to think out loud and would love any feedback and tips. Thanks all!
