2024.05.21 16:20 Old_Break5303 I feel like I have a hole in my chest whenever I'm not with her

Hi, so this is going to be kind of long, and honestly I don't even know why I'm doing this but I guess I'll do it. I am currently un-employed, I graduated from University and haven't found a job since then. I spend some of my free time gaming and through one of the games I play, I met a woman. At first I remember her being into me and I ended up telling her to not get attached because I am currently working on myself, physically, mentally and also in terms of where I want to be in life. But as time passed by, even though it hasn't been that long since we met on the 9th of April of this year, she grew on me. She professed that she likes me, we flirt and everything. And when she was around, I finally felt some sort of happiness that I felt like I've been lacking, so I developed feelings.
Now for over a week, she's started replying less to my messages and such, she has classes so it's understandable but even when she's home. I ask to call if she's free but it doesn't really end up happening. And like I know she's busy with her life, but for some reason I can't help but feel empty when she's not around. There are periods where I finally feel normal and then it's replaced by a longing of her presence and it doesn't feel nice at all. I feel like I have a hole in my chest half the days and I have no clue what I should do to fix it because I try to distract myself but even then I end up just thinking about her. I'm pretty sure I'm over reacting to all of this but I still can't help but feel like shit. I've been cheated on the last two relationships I had so that probably has something to do with it. She has exams so she's probably studying but I don't know why even knowing that, I can't help and relax. The thing is, over the weekend, she called me first thing when she woke up while she made breakfast, we spent time together and even gamed. And she sends me sweet tiktoks, even spammed me at one point and said "Sorry, it's just that I send you things that make me think of you" or something along those lines so the fact that I get sweet romantic tiktoks obviously means she does like me. But for some reason my chest feels empty until we spend time together. Well that's not true because last night we didn't talk, yet sent voice notes and I felt content. And a few nights prior, we texted and I felt content. I honestly feel like a mess and I don't know what to do so I came here to vent and get it all out because I feel like I'm losing my mind. Yesterday I asked if she wanted to spend time together and call, and she said that she called me earlier on but I didn't pick up. I didn't receive a call at all, and I know that sometimes when we call, since her service is terrible the call drops and we always have those issues so she probably did call, but for some reason I wanna believe that's a lie.. And that just drives me into a spiral of these emotions that do nothing but make me feel terrible. So now I'm writing this, crying, and honestly feeling a little bit of relief since i finally got this out.. But I honestly have no clue what to do, I wanna just ride the wave until her exams are done and maybe things'll go back to the way they were (Since she did tell me that things will go back to normal a month from now), but I don't know...

2024.05.21 16:18 PseudoRandom101 Should I have negotiated my offer?

Last month a person contacted me for tutoring his two children.I took the demo class of maths and science. The kids were vey weak in their foundations. I asked few questions which a 5th or 6th grader could easily answer but both these kids in 9th grade were blanking out. Like the kids who have heard of molecules but not of atoms. Considering how weak the kids were and how far their home was from mine, I quoted them 1000/ bucks for an hour for a single child. It means that if they hire me, it will cost them upto 48k per month.
As I expected, The parents refused to hire me. They were looking for someone who can teach both their kids under 20k per month and they have most likely found a tutor. One of my friends told me that I should have negotiated the price and could have quoted them 30k. By not doing that, I have missed a financial opportunity. Now this friend of mine has always called me impractical and it made me rethink the situation.
I have been tutoring for more than a decade now. When I take lectures, I speak continuously most of the time giving myself a sore throat and exhaustion. I spend a lot of extra time on students for which I don't charge a single penny. I have worked in IITs and has fair exposure in research. I am a dedicated tutor and I expect to be paid accordingly. The person who asked for a demo is a senior government official. His wife is also working and most likely run a small business. They live in a very posh area of delhi. The kids study in the top most chain of schools. These are the kind of people who go to the expensive holiday destinations, hang out in the ridiculously expensive cafes but when it comes to investing in knowledge and education, they wanna cut corners. I realized this and that's why I never called them back. I have taught kids for free but those who really needed my help.
Am I seriously impractical in this scenario? If similar situation were to come in future, should I consider negotiating my price? What would you have done?

2024.05.21 16:14 Living_Pea3697 I need some advice

Hello im in 9th grade and i kinda have an addiction to jacking off, it doesn’t help either that I have had a mental disorder for years now, I’m not able to go to school properly, although it was much worse last year, I still am “special” it’s the way that I look that really fucks me up on a daily basis I feel so ugly all the time especially when I have jacked off it gets so bad, and I feel like I get so much uglier when I bust. I at one point also built a fucking sex toy and I have used it and still do from time to time, I am truly fucked up and the amount of shame I feel is ridiculous. I don’t go to school, become dumber and feel like shit all the time, although I live a healthy life style, train my ass of almost every day and work on things I want to become better at, and I even had a 3 month nofap streak at the start of the school year. But right now I just feel like I’m in a black hole of shit that’s dragging me down, and is impossible to escape from I want to see my friends more at school and learn important things that I gotta know, not sit at home jacking off to fucking anime porn. But I just feel so damn helpless. Please give some advice.

I'm getting constant freezes and BSOD with different causes. I have run Memtest86 on my RAM and all appears to be fine. I also ran Infinity Bench on my CPU and GPU and got a D grade. I'm not sure what is causing all these freezes but it seems to occur more often when I'm doing anything graphics related. Watching a video, playing a game, etc.

2024.05.21 16:09 Leods-The-Observer What would you want for a ttrpg built around PBP?

If someone made a ttrpg from scratch, with the goal of it being just as easily played (or even more) through PBP format as in real life, what do you think that game's mechanics should look like? Of course, a very rules light ttrpg can already accomplish such things. What I have in mind is a more complex, rules heavy ttrpg, whose mechanics are adapted to the asynchronous playstyle of PBP groups. I saw a post with a similar question a while ago (although the answers seemed a bit more focused on if there exists a ttrpg that can fill that role, rather than what one made to fulfill it would be like), and couldn't help but theorize about it, and collect some thoughts. So far, I'm sure that system should absolutely have no initiative order at all. Maybe it should even be playable despite inactive players (I already have an idea for that). It can also benefit from information distribution and storage, since bots and Discord threads allow for an insane grade of specialization. Automatic rolling is another huge benefit as well. Do you guys have any other ideas, though?

2024.05.21 16:08 Three-People-Person A rant about city sizes

Greetings, fuckos and fuckheads,
Ya’ll bitch a lot about the sizes of cities in Skyrim. A lotta lot. Because ‘oh Bugthesda bad’ ‘oh old ass engine can’t do it they need a new engine’ ‘ohh remember muh Morrowind I so liked getting fucking lost just trying to go from one building to another in the same fucking town’. But worst of all, ‘oh, in the lore, you see, these towns are ackshually much more biggerer.’ And that last point is the one I’ll be addressing.
The lore isn’t true. What you see in-game is.
Imagine if I handed you a book about Redding, California, and in the book it said that there was a Panda Express there. And then you visited, and there was no Panda Express. Weird, right? And the natural conclusion is that the book was wrong.
(Btw, the truth is that there is a Panda Express, go get some orange chicken for me)
But instead, you’ve gone the opposite direction. ‘The book must be right,’ you say, ‘therefore it’s my own eyes and first-hand experience that are wrong.’
How fucking stupid are you? Do you not know that sometimes books are wrong- a lesson taught to every student by the sixth fucking grade when going over reliable sources? Do you not know that the Elder Scrolls in particular is famous for its unreliable narrator? Are you just that mind-numbingly, skull-shatteringly, brain-dissolvingly stupid?
Tl;dr Skyrim cities aren’t bad, or inaccurate. They are the size they are because that is the size that they are. Ya’ll just got too attached to old ass books in a video game.
Sincerely, The guy who’s fucking your mom

2024.05.21 15:56 com6491 Should High School Change Cirriculum to Boost State Test Pass Rates?

I am a science teacher at a small high school in Virginia where all students are supposed to take Biology 1 by the end of 10th grade. Currently we teach Earth Science in 9th grade and Environmental Science as an elective. It seems like most schools in Virginia have made Environmental Science (half biology, half earth science) their mandatory 9th grade class (no state standardized testing for it) and Earth Science as an elective.
Bio 1 and Earth Science both have standardized tests and my school asked for my opinion about make the same change. The logic is that our accreditation is based on the pass rate percentages for these state tests and by teaching Envi Sci in 9th we are helping prepare them for biology. Also, if we don't make everyone take Earth Science, more students will pass that test too and our pass percentage will be higher.
My problem with this (and what I'm looking for opinions on) is that it's changing what students will learn. It seems like our state has decided that biology matters and all other science classes are secondary. Making this change will take the number of students who take Earth Science from 100% to probably closer to 30%-40%. It just feels wrong to me to play their numbers game at the expense of our children's education. Am I being foolish?

2024.05.21 15:44 No-Contribution5904 Boston U vs Syracuse

Most ppl will be like Boston duhh but before i put a financial aid appeal for Syracuse (Boston gave me more aid) I want to know which will be a better fit.
Major: International Relations but might switch to double majoring in Political Science and Econ
Both schools have a school dedicated to these majors. Syracuse has the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and Boston has the Pardee School of Global Studies
Syracuse Pros:
School Spirit with all the sports and stuff
Traditional Campus (very beautiful)
Love the school colors ( ik not relevant lol)
Study Abroad Program is amazing
Cons:
Location is ehhh
Transfers live on south campus which is like 2 miles from the main campus and I would like to live campus because it’s my first year plus i’m not tryna take shuffle
Boston Pros:
Location is amazing for connection opportunities
Easy to engage in research
Everything is a good walking distance
Transfers can live on campus and have guaranteed housing
Cons:
Not a traditional campus because the campus is more like buildings spread across the campus
The rumors of grade deflation is scaring me
A very big school with many people might make me feel anxious cause i’m transferring from a much smaller school
Definitely more competitive
Rarely any sport games

2024.05.21 15:43 Zero_Flesh David Bell

Clearly many out there in Reds county are done with David Bell. I'm not here to defend him necessarily but to put things into perspective. I'll link a great podcast that isn't too long that has a great segment on this. If you don't listen to this already definitely check it out.
David Bell is not the problem. He is the face of the problem. If the Reds fired Bell today what do you think would happen? They'd hire another David Bell only this one would not be beloved by the players. The Cincinnati Reds handle their team in a way where honestly, the manager is really only the guy that implements the decision made above his pay grade. This team, starting from top down, plays the numbers. Bell is given a certain amount of tools that he can use and other than when they make a mound visit or something like that, Bell isn't deciding anything. The anylictics department is.
Do you think Bell is making the lineups? No. He's not. What about who's on the MLB team and who's in AAA? No. Who stays and who gets traded? No. He's definitely not deciding who gets hurt. He's definitely not deciding how the FO wants the coaches to handle the players. This just isn't an old school team where the manager makes decisions based on the feel of the game and David Bell is just a cog in that machine.
The Reds aren't going to fire him so he's here whether we like it or not. If they fired Bell today nothing would be different tomorrow. Idk who they'd even hire. They definitely aren't bringing in anyone that wants to ignore the FO and numbers guys and Krall etc etc and play the game the way we want them them to. This organization just isn't run that way.
Anyway. Don't listen to me. These guys explain this much better than me. They have a show everyday and talk about the games and what's on everyone's minds. I highly suggest it and I think they hit the nail on the head with this David Bell situation. So before I'm attacked in the comments at least take 30 min to listen to this. Then you can argue with me lol.

2024.05.21 15:29 The_Better_Devil Moderation Update: Thank you and goodbye

Hey ya'll, it's Devil, your friendly neighborhood mod man again... though I won't be called that for much longer here.
Thank you
First of all, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you. The past few months have been incredibly troubling for us all, but you guys have made it easier to find my way through it. The community and the podcast will always hold a special place in my heart. For three and a half years I have worked as a mod of FUCKFACEPOD to build a thriving community of comment leavers. In that time we have done incredible things together.
We left our mark on Place in 2022, we held meetups at RTX, the mod team even tried streaming for Extra Life one year. And when the company was closing down around us, and we moved to a new subreddit, we quickly built a brand new space full of the same joy and humor that defined the old subreddit. However... this will unfortunately be my last stop.
It is with deep sorrow that I tell you all that I have been removed from the moderation team of this subreddit. After three and a half years, I will no longer be a moderator here for subreddit. I am so incredibly proud of this community and how far we have come. I will be forever grateful to the podcast, and to all of you for the memories and the laughter you guys gave to me.
But this isn't goodbye forever. I'll still be hanging around the subreddit as a regular ol comment leaver. I also will continue to moderate for SoAlrightPod so go check out that place. I will also continue modding for roosterteeth at least for now, though I do plan on leaving that one soon.
Goodbye
To ANEGGG I say thank you. I cannot overstate the impact Rooster Teeth has had in my life. From my very first Achievement Hunter video in 8th grade, to the final episode of the Rooster Teeth Podcast. You guys are what ignited my passion for creating things, and you're what pushed me to pursue a degree in Film. Seeing you guys pop up in the subreddit has always been a joy (Eric's comments are always fucking hilarious) and I was overjoyed when I got to meet some of you at RTX 22/23. Thank you.
To the OG mods of FUCKFACEPOD I say thank you. Some of you have only been mods for a months before we had to switch subreddits and you all adapted to the change wonderfully. The rest of you have been in the game almost as long as I have. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to have worked with, nor better friends to accompany me. Thank you.
And finally, to the community I say thank you. I've had some pretty dark moments over the past few years, but being able to come to this subreddit and laugh at whatever random bullshit was happening has always managed to pull back into the light. I say this of not just the F**k Face/Regulation Pod community but for the wider Rooster Teeth community as well. Thank you.
I leave you now with this Spotify playlist I made.
Reminiscing
Now if you'll forgive me, I'd like to do some reminiscing about my time here:
Goodbye

2024.05.21 15:13 clrdln Worth it bang lumipat sa malayong school for shs?

Sooo ang current school ko is malapit lapit lang. Hindi siya walking distance pero 1 jeep away. Ang problem lang is mukang pera talaga haha. Plus points/projects/ and your overall grade depends kung gaano ka kagastos sa mga events nila. Tbh, some of them are to support events made by students (buy tshirt or participate in booth games) both MOST are just to buy the bs that the school chooses to sell. Ngl always present ako sa mga dyan para lang sa grades and helpful nga pero ang gastos talaga especially may mga projects pa. Pero it's still concerning kasi sa SHS almost 70k+ EXCLUDING miscellaneous fees, books, and uniform.
Yung cinoconsider ko naman now is NU Fairview. 50k daw per year and since mas mura somehow I'm kind of leaning into it. Ito ang disadvantage, 2-3 jeeps away siya. And since malayo I suppose need din maaga umalis? Depends rin sa sched. For food and everything nasa taas lang naman ng SM Fairview so wala nako masyado iisipin.
I don't know much about NU Fairview yet so wala pa ako masay. How about you guys, worth it ba?

Kobe 6 “Dark Knight” KB batch review. + my current basketball shoe rotation.
Kobe 6 “Performance Review”
Looks - Not the best looking on hand, but when on feet looks amazing. Had a lot of compliments. I would say S2 still looks a bit better. Ngl i expected more w/ the looks.
Example: Kobe tongue logo is not pressed on the material, insole stitched not properly stitched, laces too thin and a bit short
Grade: C+
Traction - great traction, no complaints. even w/ dusty court the traction stayed intact
Grade: A+
Feel/Fit: feels low to the ground and soft as-well w/ the two zoom air bags on the forefoot and heel felt amazing. Im using Archies Sports Insole. Made heaps improvement w/ the fit. made it a bit loose as the size 8.5 w/ normal insoles felt a bit too snug for my liking
Grade: A
Durability - Still TBA. i have played a full 3 games w/ this shoe. and it’s holding up great so far. despite the defect insole stitching. the shoe is really ++ Good.
Grade: TBA
I am 5’7 62KG guard. that can play 3 levels. not really explosive but is quick and fast. does a lot of cuts and off ball too.
I would recommend these KB/MX Batch shoes.
Shout to - KBCustoms/KBSneakers: Ordered these bad boys and nil regrets.
FYI - Last pic is my basketball shoe rotation. what ya think?
Retail: Curry 10, Lebron 20, Kobe 5, Book 1, BB trilliant CX-SGA, Gt cut 2 book, Sabrina 1
Reps: Kobe 6
First time buying reps and i would say, not bad. rep technology really caught up with retails. #Facts

2024.05.21 15:05 TinyLagoonStudios Marketing tips for gaming hits

What does it take to get a great game to become a success in 2024? We have had a look into the latest charts, analytics and surveys to extract some insights to help decipher how to turn a game into a hit.

Finding your players: who’s in your squad?

The gaming population keeps increasing year by year¹, comprising people from all ages and regions, but how are most players discovering new games? Well, the answer is multifaceted, but luckily we found a survey, published this month, May 2024², to inform us — and yes, this one included non-binary people, a segment of the population you don’t want to ignore in your research! At the top spot, we find YouTube; the most popular and trusted platform to discover games, followed by TikTok. Both are known for their short and long-form video content, as we predicted would be more relevant than ever this year.
But don’t underestimate the power of traditional methods either, as word-of-mouth recommendations, online ads, TV, and in-store and online promotions still play a huge part in the discoverability of games, specifically by helping generate trustworthiness, a key feature of successful marketing. Meanwhile, community hubs like Twitch, Reddit and Discord also have a very crucial role in product sustainability and longevity, as another recent survey³ indicated by stating that approximately 67% of gamers think video games help to build communities and many have established new friendships and even relationships through gaming. Could your game do that too? If you’re new to Reddit or Discord, take a look at our article here for some tips on getting started.
That being said, there’s no need to pick just one platform, as statistics show that people actually use 4 to 5 sources to discover new games. Gone are the days of a one-size-fits-all approach. Today's gamers are a diverse bunch, and understanding their habits is crucial. The key takeaway? A successful marketing strategy should use a multi-platform approach, carefully tailored to your audience.

Internationalisation done well: customising your build

So, we've looked at who your audience is, now it's the turn of localisation. Counting on experts to help you enter a new market and establish trust through a different cultural lens is a strategy that today's top games follow.
Looking at the global charts for 2023⁴ and at the top-selling games from April in the EU⁵, it becomes apparent that localisation is a common thread. Let’s look more specifically at France: almost every single one of the top 20 best-selling console games of 2023⁶ has been localised to French, as well as a number of other languages, including Arabic, as is the case with Assassin's Creed Mirage. This particular title makes a very interesting case study of localisation and culturalisation becoming powerful marketing tools themselves, as well as being key to the game’s experience.
Assassin's Creed Mirage was released with an Arabic dub that wasn't just for show. Praised for its authenticity, the accurate localisation, realistic voice acting and cultural details transported players directly into the bustling streets of 9th-century Baghdad. The localisation team meticulously recreated the cultural atmosphere. From the way the characters addressed each other to the background conversations, everything felt authentic. This commitment to culturalisation not only resonated deeply with Arabic-speaking gamers, but also garnered respect from players worldwide, earning positive reviews and strong engagement for Mirage (as seen in this TikTok example). Consequently, the dedication to localisation and culturalisation not only enhanced the game but also acted as a powerful marketing tool in itself to promote sales.
Talking about TikTok, recent studies also reveal that the most popular games on the platform have been localised into several languages⁷. As a social media platform that prides itself on its international communities, it’s only to be expected this would be the case. In fact, they recently announced that bilingual ads in Spanish and English are even more effective in promoting content on their platform in the US than English-only ads! And, on top of that, they increased consumers’ perception of brands’ trustworthiness⁸.
So what can we learn from looking at a recent unexpected rising star? And yes, we are talking about Helldivers 2! With very little pre-launch marketing, the game quickly became a massive hit throughout Europe⁹ and other regions¹⁰, and it seems to be managing to keep its popularity thanks to its very well-crafted and unique tone of voice. The game's distinct communication style, a blend of dark humour and military jargon, is a key part of its charm. From the hilariously over-the-top mission briefings to the satire-packed and irony-tinted community announcements, their propaganda-inspired marketing, perfectly localised into several languages, keeps players engaged globally.

The final boss: putting it all together

By understanding which platforms your audiences use, their motivations and demographics, and by prioritising localisation to enter different markets, you can significantly increase a game's chances of becoming a global phenomenon. Remember, sometimes it’s the little things, like changing the way you approach new markets, that make a big difference. If you need a partner to help you on your journey, get in touch with us here and our team at Tiny Lagoon will be thrilled to join you.

2024.05.21 15:05 amberxlxe Signed up to volunteer coach 1/2nd grade recreational soccer; am I doing something wrong?

My son is in 2nd (entering 3rd) grade and joined a local recreational summer soccer league. It’s regional so no kids from his school are on his team, and it draws kids from all over. The league that hosts has a great reputation and parents, myself included, love it. They have competitive soccer beginning at 3rd and 4th grade level, which requires try out.
I signed my son up and the league coordinator asked if I was interested in volunteer coaching. I volunteer in my son’s classroom once or twice a week for an hour each, I do parent activities at school, and I’d generally consider myself pretty involved with his grade. I use attention getters his teacher uses (“shhhh! Waterfall.. eyes on me”) when I have a big group and I always try to check in with kids and find something to remember about them.
The recreational handbook for coaches states, literally: “1st and 2nd grade boys: the point is to get them moving and engaged. Practice is held for 30 minutes with volunteer trainers, then 30 minutes by coach. Coach leads full 1 hour game.” There are no instructions for how scrimmage should be conducted and when I asked the coordinator he said “just have them play and make sure to sub out.”
I have never played soccer as an adult, and I didn’t as a kid. I figured I’d watch some videos online and read some guides. When the ball goes out, it gets thrown in. I told the coordinator I had no experience coaching and he said it wasn’t an issue.
The kids on our team are probably all in 1st grade with a couple exceptions (my son included). They’re all much more rambunctious than I expected but nothing I can’t handle; that said they don’t have a lot of focus and I didn’t expect them to. There are a few parents who are REALLY eager to step on the field and did so during the game, and even asked why I had specific kids do certain things (eg: why didn’t he kick the ball in instead of throw?). I tried to be cordial and kind and say “It’s recreational! I just want them to move and get familiar, first game is always tough!” But that seemed to frustrate one parent even more. None of the parents seem super interested in chatting with me post game, and I feel like I may be doing something wrong. A few of the kids lamented my lame post-game snack and asked where the Gatorade was.
Have you coached recreational sports for kids? Do you have tips on how I could make this season good for them and handle the parents? Again, I know I don’t have the /skill/ in terms of the sport, but they’re in 1st and 2nd grade. In my mind it’s a win they want to play, listen, and engage with their teammates in sportsmanship.

2024.05.21 15:03 RealJasonB7 I don’t know if this is the right place to ask but it’s magazine related. I’m looking for a magazine

I’m trying to find the name and issue of an anime magazine I had when I was a kid. It was an anime and (I believe) game magazine. It featured a review of Excel Saga, a complete guide to all the Gundam movies and series, and an ad for Kiddy Grade. The cover had Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh. If you know what this is, let me know.

House System in US Schools
Good morning to you all, wherever you are! It's a lovely morning here in North Carolina. I wanted to give some extra information on the first topic of the episode about the house systems in schools. For context I am a fourth grade math teacher in a public school. There are actually many schools in the United States who have a house system similar to the one in Harry Potter. The idea behind having school-wide houses is to celebrate students for their efforts in school, foster school spirit, allow for relationship-building across grade levels, and to give students a sense of belonging in their school "family."
The school that is typically credited with starting this house movement is the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, which was founded and began using this system in 2007. Since then their success as a school has inspired others to follow their approach. Ron Clark has actually developed a curriculum and implementation process for other schools to adopt if they wanted to use the system in their school. They also host professional development for teachers and administration staff to see their school in action. Check out their website here!
My school has implemented a house system this year (we call them "Coves" since our mascot is a pirate) and it has been a great success. We host meetings monthly with our coves to give lessons on good character, relationship building, conflict resolution, and other important life skills. Students can also earn cove points for stand-out behavior or other accomplishment and every quarter we host a pep rally to play games and reveal who wins the Cove Cup Trophy for that quarter.
Below is our crest with each of the cove names and animal symbols. Each of our cove names are written in a language representative of cultures of students in our school. Check out the caption to learn what each cove name means and what its origin is!
Amoroso: Hispanic origin, means loving. Jasiri: African origin, means courageous. Anbisye: Hatian origin, means ambitious. Waohola: Native American origin, means respect. Sisu: Finnish origin, means determination. Mamum: Asian/Pacific Islander origin, means trustworthy.

2024.05.21 14:51 NicoleRichie666 How did you find your next job after being fired in retaliation?

Hi guys
I was wondering if anyone who has been fired for reporting something discrimination-related has any advice on finding their next job?
For context, I was working in a marketing-related role in the video game industry, and was fired a few months ago when I raised concerns about pay inequity and harassment. Like I was literally sent home within a few hours, forced to take 1 week involuntary leave, immediately had network access revoked, and was fired at the end of that week. I know that marketing isn’t a “tech” role (and I’m not claiming to be a “woman in tech”) but I really need guidance on how you find another job after this. These are the main things I’m struggling with:
  1. Who do you guys list as references when job searching? I don’t think I can use anyone from this company as a reference, but not giving a reference will look suspicious.
  2. What do you say in interviews if they ask why you left your previous company?
  3. How do you account for the lack of career progression that goes with being a woman in a male-dominated space? I feel really behind in my career from doing work way above my pay grade while being refused actual recognition or visible career progression. I was never promoted (while the men around me were) and I’m anxious competing for jobs against people who had normal career opportunities. Maybe my question is, is there a way I can handle this without taking a job that is way below my skill/experience level?
  4. Does anyone have advice for coming across as competent when you are so used to being undermined, micromanaged, refused opportunities etc? My psychologist said that I have internalised this experience as my personal failure, and that I need to internalise a different narrative. I understand this in theory, but it’s really hard in practice. I feel like one of those dogs that was abused by its previous owner and now acts skittish around men and gets scared during thunderstorms*. Like I feel like I can’t go to a normal workplace because I might “give it away” somehow, and people will think I’m weird and damaged. At my previous company, I wasn’t allowed into the office without a designated male chaperone, and I wasn’t allowed to make basic decisions by myself (every tiny detail had to be approved by a male coworker). I know these things aren’t normal, but I'm so used to having to be deferential that I don't know what is normal.
  5. I'm currently thinking I'll do a postgrad degree so that I have something on my CV that is more recent than this job. Has anyone done this (either after being fired, or in general), and did it help?
Thank you all for reading, I really appreciate any and all guidance. Also thank you for your time :)
*I've never owned a dog, maybe all dogs are scared of thunderstorms. I hope this metaphor makes sense.

GK Kobe 5 performance review
So my son has been hooping in these for a couple months now. He seems to be really enjoying them and they are everything you can hope for in a rep.
Fit/lockdown 8.5. A little snug in the beginning but after they broke in they are tight with plenty of support.
Grip. 8.5. Plenty of grip, not much squeak but we play on a lot of dusty courts it seems.
Looks. 8.5. Some minor alignment issues with mid panel and the heel cap. Can’t really notice on his feet though. Look really good on the court.
10th grade, not the strongest, tallest, or the fastest but makes up for it with IQ and heart. He is a little clip of our last 3 games. #24
If you are a dad on the fence about reps, look into the kickwho.xyz on instagram or on his website. It was very easy and they were very communicative with me. Give mad props they have exceeded our expectations.

2024.05.21 14:44 Ok-Seaworthiness2263 AITAH for defending myself against a kid

For some backstory: im 11 years old, (ik, im too young to be on reddit just let me tell my story here)
i was bullied in 3rd-7 grade. I was an easy target since i almost never told teachers. i almost switched schools for this alongside other reasons, the other kid is 4. so me and my friends where close to the first grade playground where they where playing. one kid, lets name him kevin not to reveal his identity. we (and him remember this) wanted to play a game where we tried to catch him. he agreed. well when i got him he fell. i dont think its my fault because i wasnt actually holding him just holding my hands very close to him. he started crying and i went away to think abt an apology. the whole time other kids in my grade said Dude why did u do that?! i simply said: what else could i do? i was being held. 5 min later i was walking by him to say sorry. when the kids i was playing with before grabbed me and restrained me and told the kid (he was holding a stick) PUNCH HIM! PUNCH HIM!. then he got into a position where he would slap me. and then i kicked him (softly, i knew i didnt need much force to stop him and then my plan was to fight the other kids who restrained me) then he cried and they immediately went to help him instead of holding me. then the kindergarten teacher came up to me ancd started yelling: WHY DID U KICK A 4 YEAR OLD KID?. i simply said: what else could i do he was gonna hit me with a stick!. she yelled at me saying i should apologise wich i didnt. then the teacher called everyone (of my class) to go back to our class not seeing what happened. on the way back i got pushed by another kid. (one off the bullies in my class) wich he was friends with kevin. i turned around and said: dude what the hell? he yelled at me too: WHY DID U KICK A 4 YEAR OLD?. i said: what else would i do? then the conversation basically repeated until the teacher saw what happened and that was basically over. back at school the teacher talked to me and asked what i did. i told her what happened and i went to play some games. but unfortunately for me i sat behind the bully kid AND everyone knos withing 5 minutes that u softly sneezed because everyone tells everyone stuff. at home i told my mom what happened and she is calling the school as im writing this. also a van i never saw before honked at my door and drove away. im pretty sure it was for my neighbours or something but im not sure. TLDR: i got into trouble for defending myself against a kid. AITAH?
