2024.05.22 02:34 rexie123344 What alot of people fail to realize

We all know the kid is a “troll”. The sad part is that 17 y/o olds are making a name for them selves doing these antics. Nobody actually has a problem with the fucking kid. He has no idea what he is doing (his brother probably does). The sad part is that we accepted that these new forms of generating popularity through antics is becoming a new norm for fame.
After having a run of truly funny, goofy and interesting people we resort to this, it is just disappointing. We have seen enough of these kind of negative emotion evoking people generating attention on the internet. We just never thought we would see them on this podcast. Because we thought this pod was better than that.
But at the end of the day, if the pod understands the criticism, and moves on from it, who cares. Just please people are tired of these matan/fresh and fit/tate/ jake paul types. thats why we went to seek out real funny content like bad friends.
Also as fans pls just dont interact with them. They just see numbers. All they want is more comments and interactions. They know that is all that counts to become famous today. No morals and no ethics.

2024.05.22 02:29 Melodic_Ad7952 David Lean and the Canon

"There are very few directors, about whom you’d say you automatically have to see everything they do," Stanley Kubrick said in 1966. "I’d put Fellini, Bergman and David Lean at the head of my first list."
Almost sixty years later, I think it's safe to say, Lean does not quite have the same safely canonical status as Fellini or Bergman. (Just four years later, the scathing critical reception of Ryan's Daughter would put a serious dent in Lean's reputation and allegedly, lead to an almost fifteen year-long absence from feature films.)
No David Lean films finished in the top 100 of the 2022 BFI/Sight and Sound Poll (Lawrence of Arabia did finish tied for 62nd in the directors' poll) and only three made the top 1,000 (including Doctor Zhivago in 911th place.)
Despite his influence on generations of filmmakers, from Spaghetti westerns to New Hollywood to Peter Jackson and Denis Villeneuve (and some less obvious names like Spike Lee and John Woo), I think there's a general perception of him as ponderous and old-fashioned, one that is itself decades old. Consider, for instance, the opening of Dave Kehr's review of Lean's last film:
David Lean’s studied, plodding, overanalytic direction manages to kill most of the meaning in E.M. Forster’s haunting novel of cultural collision in colonial India
Or Andrew Sarris on his penultimate film:
David Lean's "Ryan's Daughter" possesses all the antique charm and amiability of a dinosaur ambling (in scenic longshot) down the road to an undeserved oblivion.
One challenge when thinking about David Lean's career as a whole is just how much his last five films -- which made his name synonymous with 'epic cinema' overshadow his first twelve, how Lean is generally known for and judged by his late style.
While his name has not taken an adjectival form à la Felliniesque or Hitchcockian or Lynchian, I think it's safe to say that "David Lean" has also become shorthand for a certain kind of filmmaking.; when filmmakers talk about how Lean influenced them, they almost always talk about his last five films, especially Lawrence.
A critic comparing a new release to the films of David Lean gives you a good idea of what that film will be like, at least on the surface level: epic, vast landscapes, probably involving an epic journey against the backdrop of large-scale sociopolitical conflict. Even though Lean only wrote one of the screenplays in question, I think it's fair to call his last five films true auteur works, films that clearly express a consistent artistic vision. These films, however, are less than a third of his filmography.
If you've been on this subreddit for a while, you've probably seen someone object to the characterization of Martin Scorsese as a mob movie director by pointing out that his filmography includes a much broader range of themes and settings. Something similar can be said of Lean; no one would call Brief Encounter or Blithe Spirit epics. The two films he made before The Bridge on the River Kwai -- Hobson's Choice and Summertime -- are very different from it. And of course the young Lean earned a reputation as cinema's greatest adapter of two very different writers, Noël Coward and Charles Dickens. David Thomson, no fan of the second half of Lean's career, highly praises the first in his New Biographical Dictionary of Film:
Lean before 1952 made eight films in ten years that are lively, stirring, and an inspiration—they make you want to go out and make movies, they are so in love with the screen's power and the combustion in editing.
In other words, Lean's filmography includes much more than 3+ hour roadshow epics with overtures and intermissions; he also directed comedies, and small-scale character-driven stories. Furthermore, his acknowledged mastery of visual spectacle also overshadows how good he could be as a director of actors, with a specially knack for working with younger actors. He directed Peter O'Toole, Omar Sharif, Alec Guinness Trevor Howard, Celia Johnson and Robert Newton in their breakout roles, and I think that that's also a major part of his legacy.
In short, a serious filmmaker, worthy of discussion, and with a much wider range than you might think at first. (If you didn't see the credits, would you ever think that Lawrence and Brief Encounter were directed by the same person?) And someone who perhaps deserves more credit than some people are willing to give him, considering his combination of artistic range, critical success, commercial success and influence on other filmmakers.
What are your thoughts on David Lean and his legacy?

2024.05.22 02:24 Casual_AF_ Is what OpenAI did illegal? Maybe. But it's almost certainly unethical

Without exaggeration, the decision making at OpenAI in voicing Sky is shocking and very worrying.
I'm a data analytics professional, and occasionally come across issues with Personally Identifiable Information (PII) that can slide into unethical and illegal practices if not addressed. People have rights to privacy, and collecting PII around certain things (especially medical) requires a lot of care to not breach that privacy.
Similarly, people have rights to their likeness and it not being used without their permission.
"Oh," you (might) smugly reply "the voice for Sky comes from another voice actor - and actually it sounded more like Rashida Jones than Scarlett Johansson anyway!"
Storytime for how actual professionals handle things like this. I was the data analytics person attached to a cancer research study that had roughly 80 participants, about half of which were in the intervention group. We had a lot of data on these individuals that could easily breach PII and become unethical (as well as illegal). The idea came around to give them fake names to more easily outline the results for the individuals. So we just pick random names, right? Wrong. Because what if we accidentally assigned the correct name to one of the participants? So we had to have the names assigned by one of the HCPs that knew their real name and would assign what was specifically an incorrect name to each participant.
So not only did we not try to find PII of the individuals, we actively and painstakingly avoided it.
That is not at all what OpenAI did.
They were told "no you cannot use my voice". IF they were ethical professionals, they would have specifically not included a voice model that was even close to resembling the person that specifically did not give consent for their voice likeness to be used. In the very most charitable version of events, they accepted they could not use Scarlett Johannsson's voice, and then did a totally blind casting of voice actors regardless of how close to hers it was.
When offered the opportunity to wade into a morally grey area or to avoid it completely, the decision at OpenAI was to wade in.
And the stakes could NOT have been lower. This was all over being able to gin up a little extra marketing excitement. This wasn't about the quality of the product, how many people it could reach, or how it would impact users. This was all over a marketing gag.
So what about when it actually matters? And according to these same people, it will. According to the people that chose to potentially infringe on an individual's rights, the technology they're shepherding will have the greatest impact on humanity in generations.
We should be worried by this.

2024.05.22 02:08 StevenTB02 What do I do in this situation?

Guys, if you like a good story please read. I need help.
I’ll start with some back story. So I’m 24(m); all throughout my younger stages, I’ve never been the type of guy to just be good with girls. All throughout school I’ve never had a girlfriend and have been rejected numerous times. I was kind of a nerdy kid but just didn’t really know how to talk to girls. Anyways, fast forward to today I’m currently on my 6th relationship of 2 years. All the girls I’ve dated aren’t that good looking. Some more than others but a little chubby and what not… you get the picture.
This girl I’m dating lives about two hours from me and we met online. We’d see each other maybe a couple times a month but we’d stay at each others houses for like 2-3 days at a time. She’s 23. Things are going pretty good between her and I. She is absolutely crazy in love with me and she honestly would do anything for me. I honestly do love her back but not to that extent and she’s so sweet and nurturing and innocent. She’s also a bit overweight and still immature in some ways. I’ve tried talking her out of her habits and that only gets so far I feel.
Given my troubling and frustrating time growing up with no female attention I’ve come across a difficult situation now. About a month ago at my job a very attractive woman drove through my job (I’m a toll collector). We exchange the cash and right before she drove off, she handed me a small pink piece of paper with her name and phone number. We glanced and smiled at each other as she drove off.
Of course I texted her because she was very attractive and I just wanted to see what would happen. This woman is 35 years old with an 8 year old daughter. She’s honestly very beautiful and has almost damn near perfect physical features. Short blonde mom not, not overweight but not skinny either. She makes six figures with her job, her family is generationally wealthy, she owns her own house and vehicle. I mean holy shit I hit the lottery. But I told this woman that im in a relationship with a girl and that unfortunately I can’t be going out to drinks with her. We stopped talking for about a week after that.
A week later she texted me and one thing leads to another, she was fine with me being with somebody and she just wanted to go out for drinks. In my mind I’m like holy shit I just struck gold with a milf. Quite literally something straight out of a porn video.
This woman and I have been texting daily for about a month now. She even has been buying me drinks every day at my work when she drives through. She’s just so mature and has goals and everything you could want in a woman. In my head i want to think what she sees in me but I don’t want to ruin it either.
Is this an opportunity of a lifetime? What do I do? If I break up with my current girlfriend, she’ll be so crushed. In her eyes everything is going perfect. I’ll feel ashamed either way.

2024.05.22 02:05 mcm8279 [Interview] ‘Discovery’ Writer Eric J. Robbins on referencing other Trek shows: "Internally, we share a lot of material. On Discovery, we would assign certain writers to cover a show and then you get put into their script distribution. So, if we’re in contradiction with another show, we catch it"

TREKMOVIE: "[...]
This episode [Discovery 5x8] evokes some Trek classics, especially “The Inner Light.” How much of bringing up older episodes is part of the discussion in the room?
I feel like it is part of every episode that I worked on Discovery. It was always important for me to find reference episodes. There was a common joke during season four when we were working remotely and after we get back on Zoom after lunch I would be like, “I just watched this episode of Voyager!”
So, yes, “Inner Light,” which I hesitate to say because, to me, it is arguably the best written episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. That and “Family” in terms of emotional exploration of Jean-Luc Picard. “Tapestry” was also on my mind, having an opportunity to reflect on your life and the choices you’ve made. “Balance of Terror” as well, hiding and trying to suss out what your enemy was doing. There are also little inspirations in my episodes from the movies, so in this one trying to gauge shield frequencies and harmonic reference, that is me as a child watching Star Trek Generations in theaters and being like, “Just change the shield frequency!” as the Bird of Prey starts attacking the Enterprise. [laughs]
There was an even bigger movie reference with Hy’Rell…
Oh yeah, Star Trek VI, I love that movie. During the WGA strike last summer I had the opportunity to meet Nicholas Mayer. And I went up to him to talk about how much I loved The Undiscovered Country. And he was like, “Most people come at me with Wrath of Khan.” So yeah, I always loved the Efrosian, I thought he was such a cool design. I always forget there was another Efrosian in Star Trek IV, the helmsmen on the Saratoga. And when we were doing this episode I was like, what species do we want to see, but one that won’t be a production nightmare? I would love to do a Catian, but in live-action it could be expensive. So I went back to Efrosian and I thought we have only ever seen two of them, which is insane because one of them is the President. [laughs] So it was an opportunity to give one an actual name and also see one who has had a female presentation because the other two are very masculine presenting. So I sent the reference and the design team liked it and they thought they could do an updated version of the makeup.
I am sure some fans are going to come at me over the vision. In a deleted scene in Star Trek VI the President has a little eyepiece he uses and in Star Trek IV the Saratoga helmsman also has white contact lenses. So the deleted scene shows the President is blind and that may be a species characteristic. So do we lean into if they are blind or not? And I was like, it’s 800 years later than Geordi, who got his optical contacts, so maybe it has been addressed. I was just really excited to back to a species that has so little defined and add a new character to the mix, but being really cognizant of not defining them too much so writers and storytellers in the future have a real opportunity to dig into the Efrosians and say more about their culture.
A surprising reference comes from something much more recent when Reno made the joke about Hysperia, from Lower Decks. So are you guys on the lookout for ways you can connect to the new shows?
Sure. internally, we share a lot of material. On Discovery, we would assign certain writers to cover a show and then you get put into their script distribution. So, if we’re in contradiction with another show, we catch it. We are not just looking out for making sure we are not stepping on each other’s toes but also, for me, it’s really important to show a little love to the other series.
I think that’s one thing that Star Trek has always done very well. I think it’s one thing the fans have always responded to.
Now for the Hysperians, first, the original pass didn’t include Reno because we didn’t know we were going to have Tig [Notaro] and I was told very late Reno was going to be in my episode. So, we were talking about ideas and somebody wrote a rough version of a joke, “Oh I was repairing buoys out by Talaxia, and Talaxians really know how to party.” I was always very cognizant about not being the “canon cop,” but that’s where I was like, “Wait a minute, Talaxia is way deep in the Delta Quadrant, when did Jett Reno have an opportunity to do that?” We never saw Disco jump to the Delta Quadrant so maybe we should change that planet and that episode of Lower Decks just aired and I was like, “What about the Hysperians?” That episode is hysterical and if you put Jett Reno on a fantasy planet she would get up to some intense shenanigans. I just loved that mental image.
[...]"

2024.05.22 01:59 Fortinbrah If You're Interested in Dzogchen...

Somebody requested that I write down some resources for Dzogchen in the sidebar, so I thought I would do a post as well to give a sort of background and offer anyone else the chance to get in on the conversation or building of resources too...
But first,

A Word on Secrecy, Safety Maturity, and Cults

I'm writing this post out by request of someone who messaged me, with the intention of reaching a wider audience, or all beings, who could benefit from learning about these teachings. I have to caution, though, that they may not be for everybody, and in that regard, I would advise gentleness, with yourself and others, with regards to this path. Please take care of yourself, and keep a measure of your own mind with regard to your mental health and these practices. I wish that those who read this post are only those who it may help, and I apologize preemptively to all those it may hurt, or if I've made any mistakes in my writing.
With that in mind, I can maybe share a little bit about the secrecy aspect of what is called Vajrayana. Someone who learns about these practices but does not genuinely practice them can generate obstacles to their own awakening; specifically with Dzogchen, there is a real danger of intellectualizing the practice such that one covers over their own mind with a sheen of thoughts and fabrication, blocking one from advancing towards awakening. In that regard, this particular practice is called self secret. From what I know, many Lamas won't introduce one to the practice if they aren't sure the student has the capability to grasp it, and also - the student won't be able to practice it or understand it if they're not able to. But, to give some background, from what I understand the strongest indicator of capability to practice Dzogchen, is an interest in doing so.
On the subject of cults - I have to note that Dzogchen practice can be very personal, but that is not a license for any teacher to abuse you, in any form, ever. Things that happened in the past - students getting slapped, hit with shoes, etc. - happened in the past - but that doesn't make them appropriate teachings devices today. A genuinely compassionate teacher won't take advantage of your practice to abuse you, steal your money, degrade you, control you, or anything like that. If they try to - it is more likely that you've stumbled on a cult, and should get away as fast as you can.
As for what makes a good teacher - others have asked this question before, and u/krodha in particular has written out a good description many times, although I can't find the quote he usually uses unfortunately.
As far as general safety in the practice goes, Lama Lena has written this (and I'm shamelessly stealing it from her website):
"The responsibility to take care of your own mind rests with you; not the lama, not your mom, not your cat. So, take it upon yourself to be safe and use common sense."
Please, read that whole page and heed the warnings.

My Practice

I've been working with Dzogchen for about 3.5 years now, since approximately the end of 2020. I'd been interested in Mahayana practices for the better part of a decade before that, but mostly just practicing Samatha by the way of Anapanasati and Metta, and also through the framework provided by *The Mind Illuminated*. I had been curious about Dzogchen for a bit, mostly from reading about it on Wikipedia and just, in general, being interested in seeing what the fuss is surrounding vajrayana, tantra, and the "highest system" called Atiyoga.
By chance, I happened to see a comment on Dzogchen from someone who basically said "If anyone is looking for pointing out, feel free to message me." So I sent them a message giving my general background and motivation for the practice, and they invited me to join them on meditationonline.org - which had been a place they'd been doing meditation for a few years (and still do, I suppose I'd consider myself part of that sangha). I happened to meet the individual who I'd been messaging, a Nyingma lama called Dawai Gocha, and received pointing out, along with teachings for the next few years... up until the present day.
My main practice now is Dzogchen - I gradually transitioned into this from Anapanasati over the course of about six months - and most of my sessions are now just me resting in awareness - Rigpa. I generally do augment this however with other practices, like Satipatthana, mantra recitation, and other practices from the three main vehicles, simply because I like to do them and find them helpful on the path.

What is Dzogchen?

I can't say anything that has not already been said by others, in particular, meditation masters with vastly more experience than I have - but to put it simply, Dzogchen practice can encompass a large number of different types of ancillary practices, and one central practice, which the ancillaries are meant to accomplish. The main practice is resting in the Rigpa.

How to Learn

"Get pointing out instructions from a qualified teacher before embarking on Dzogchen and Mahamudra. A teacher can address pressing questions as they arise and give you a map and tools for the journey. As practitioners, we can rely on those who have hiked the trail before us." - Lama Lena
Since the awareness nature is always present in every being, it is both simple to learn and simple to maintain the practice - being that one just simply is introduced to the awareness nature, and then abides in it at all times.
As far as being introduced to that awareness, in my experience there are many avenues, such as getting pointed out in person( verbally or non verbally), in visions, through texts, in dreams, etc. In one of her videos, Lama Lena goes through, I think, five different days that transmission/pointing out can happen.
But in my experience, getting pointing out, repeatedly and periodically, from a teacher is the most effective (and probably the most important) way to learn, like having someone coach you through riding a bicycle, until you finally internalize the fundamentals and are able ride on your own. Even someone that can check your progress, humble you, and keep you from common pitfalls, can be extremely helpful. Dzogchen, to me and from what I have read from e.g. Tulku Urgyen, is very simple, so simple that many people are able to miss it extremely easily. Whether we miss it because we're so worked up, or because we are subtly fabricating something and fixating on the fabrication - there is a miss, and from what I know, it's better to realize that than carry on doing whatever else. The harsh reality of Dzogchen practice is that fixation, because we're so habituated to it as human beings, is extremely easy, and being led astray by fixation means your meditation becomes a conditioned Samatha practice. On a lighter note though - from my perspective, one we learn to continually distinguish between Consciousness from Wisdom, we are on very solid ground, and it becomes easier and easier to recognize when we've become fixated.
On the subject of teachers - I would consider myself to have had many teachers. My main teacher, I mentioned before, is a lama I talk to live over the internet, but I would also say I've received teachings from recordings, from books, and in dreams. For clarity, I will state again: having a teacher that you can use to verify your practice is very important so as not to fall into common pitfalls. Whether you are confirming your experience through texts, reasoning, pointing out videos, whatever - doing it repeatedly will help because otherwise, as a beginner, one can be lost for minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, etc. without finding awareness again. I've seen people on Dzogchen who, unfortunately, even though they got pointing out from great teachers, were not able to full internalize the practice because they got lost in thoughts and then never were able to find recognize awareness again, and so need the pointing out once more. Others get the pointing out repeatedly - practice a lot, and attain good results over time. In that way, from my perspective, having continual access to the teachings is very important.
Fortunately, we live in a good time for this.
I'll get to recommend specifics later but - this is my perspective - although some people say that you can't get transmission over recordings or the internet, or from books - I actually do doubt that that is that case, just from experience. But, I must caution that all of my experience in this realm comes from after the point in time that I received live pointing out, so I would not take what I say as gospel. Once again, anything I say would defer to a knowledge and reputable teacher.
This all being said - regardless of how one feels at a specific time or place, there's no reason to ever refrain from confirming one's experience or view against the words of masters. There are others that have said this, who have more experience, but until we are Buddhas ourselves and phenomena have exhausted, there is no reason to ever stop practicing. Ever. If you are practicing, there is no need to make effort, and all phenomena will come and go without trouble until they are fully exhausted. Namkhai Norbu says almost exactly this in The Cycle of Day and Night.

Finding A Teacher - Resources

"Do not expect to travel this path guided only by books and the internet! Use the internet to find a teacher, then connect with them." - Lama Lena
It's taken a while to get here, my apologies for that.
For finding a teacher, I think any lama that has accomplished a three year retreat will be proficient in either Mahamudra or Dzogchen (both Atiyoga - subtle differenes but the same essential practice), and will likely be able to give pointing out instructions.
Not all may do so at first. Some may want a more personal relationship, some may require Ngondro, and some may say "sorry I don't really give those teachings". Some may require a baseline knowledge of the practice first - for example the Tergar program does.
That being said, there are many places to receive pointing out for free and in public.
Off the top of my head, I can name four that are always open and free: Lama Lena on Facebook and Youtube, The Rangdrol Foundation (run by the reddit user u/jigdrol), MeditationOnline.org, and The Pristine Mind Foundation . I know there are others, but at least to me on reddit and personally, these have been the most visible. I do know that Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche and James Low occasionally give pointing out instructions and videos on the practice. As well - many other lama do on occasion, and especially Bon lamas - practitioners and Yogis from the Tibetan Indigenous religion, through teachings series or classes. Some may even do so if you are able to get a phone call with them.
Personally, I recommend finding someone who you can learn from personally, and allowing them to teach you whatever they can.
Edit: Here is a recent list of online teachers compiled by Dzogchen
Lama Lena Dzogchen Youtube Videos
Lama Lena Introductory Videos
Meditation Online Videos (Almost all Dzogchen)
Once you've received pointing out, there are also numerous public books, and texts one can read to deepen their understanding and/or background in the teachings, a few of which I've read and can list below. I'll also try to find some links that I care share too.
Many texts on Dzogchen, Mahyana and Vajrayana in general can be found on the excellent Lotsawahouse.org
A list of a few books that I've read and can personally recommend. Please note - these books (with the exception of Transcending AFAIK) are best read after having received transmission:
The Cycle of Day and Night by Chogyal Namkhai Norbu
Dzogchen: Heart Essence of the Great Perfection by HH The Dalai Lama
Zurchungpa's Testament by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
Vajra Heart Revisited by Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche
Transcending Ego: Distinguishing Consciousness from Wisdom by Thrangu Rinpoche
Also, I've not read the Trilogy of Rest by Longchenpa but heard that they're excellent.
Anyways, this about wraps up the post. If you have any questions or additional comments, they are very welcome. I wish all of your the very best of luck on your paths, and that all beings may reach enlightenment.

The fucking clowns that you guys post about all day are exactly that. They are the result of recruiting agencies hiring people out of college enmasse and laying them off after a year of them sucking at their jobs because they were poorly trained. These people then continue to do the only thing they know how to do, recruit.
Please continue to call them out by name and company whenever you do because it's so easy to be a bad recruiter. If you're not in it because you love helping people and advocating for them then find another fucking career. I'm so sick of these idiots making us look like we don't know what we are doing.
There are so many good recruiters who push back on bullshit from managers and don't let them do whatever they want. But we speak up and sometimes we get punished for that. They then hire the people who won't resist them at all.
The core of recruiting is Talent Acquisition. I will fight all of you on this. It is NOT HR, it's a completely different space. Most recruiters I've met fucking hate HR just as badly as you do. They're soulless fiends who represent companies over people. Recruiters are quite literally the opposite of that. It's my job to make sure people are not judged based off of their name, not payed less due to the racist or exist Hiring Manager, it's my job to make sure you feel REPRESENTED and SEEN through the process.
I hope all these booger butts that make you guys feel less than human get fired and switch Industries because it should be different.
I'm sorry you guys are encountering these poor excuses for adults.

2024.05.22 01:52 PleasantCandidate785 Windows Server 2022 VM Crashing

I have a Windows Server 2022 VM Running under Alma Linux 9.3 that is crashing roughly every 7 to 8 days with the following message in the /valog/libvert/qemu/Server.log file:
failed to set up stack guard page: Cannot allocate memory 2024-05-10 21:59:33.034+0000: shutting down, reason=crashed
I think this is linked to my using "virtio" as the drive type for my drive images.
At this point, the server is in production and I can't change to virtio-scsi. I initially set up the virtio drives due to the performance gain when mounting the qcow2 images from an all NVME ZFS file system. And the system absolutely FLIES. 15,000+MBps sequential read performance under CrystalDiskMark.
I have to stop this crashing though. Here is my Server.xml file:

2024.05.22 01:44 khushi-saini People with 14 backlogs in college crying for jobs now

Am not here to support the current government or any other government. And honestly speaking idk much about employment rates and how that really works.
So basically I want to ask people that when you haven't studied in any semester of your college, you were passing exams with 0 knowledge, then why are you crying now for low paying jobs?
Ok let me clarify my statement first through an example:
Am using my own name in example. So khushi was a very dull student. She never paid attention to the lectures in school. She got 70-75% in 12th standard by rote learning and cheating in exams.
Due to caste based admission (obc/sc/st) she got admission in a college of a reputed university. And Because she never paid attention to her school lectures her basic knowledge is incomplete now. She is facing difficulties in her higher studies. And due to that she isn't paying attention to her college lectures as well.
All she is doing is sleeping in her hostel room watching movies, series etc. Now it's the semester exam, again she is just rote learning and cheating in her exams to get passing marks only. She also thinks like the most of the students "academic knowledge doesn't matter" also "what matters the most is experience and practical knowledge". But she got none of them. It's the last year of college life and companies are here to hire students. Due to zero knowledge khushi got no job. She is blaming the education system now. She is blaming her college by putting a tag of 'shittiest placements'. She knows that she have 0 knowledge about the subjects she passed by cheating. But she wasn't aware that she can't cheat in an interview. Now khushi is working as a credit card seller or accountant for 10-15k a month. Now khushi is blaming government for low salary and low employment rates.
Now my question is, was the government really responsible for it?
In today's world many people are living in this same situation. My senior who was boasting about 14 backlogs in semester exams is crying because there are no jobs for her. She used to be like one of those 'CoOl sTudEnts' who believes in only clubbing and spending money pver silly things which are considered as cool kids things nowadays. And whom she is blaming now? The government. The education system. And yea her parents.
I saw a reel where ashneer grover answered a question asked by a student that "Is the knowledge we are gaining in college life really matters?" To which he answered that "This generation is the most stupid generation who thinks that only they themselves are the most logical people nowadays. For them teachers are fools, universities are fools, their own parents are fools. He also said that if you aren't attending lecture but you are somewhere doing something better than the lecture then it's a good thing for you. But if you are just sleeping in your hostel rooms, binge watching a series at the time of studying then you are the one who is fool here.
This was the most logical and simple answer i have ever heard. People will blame everyone and everything but not themselves, not their own doings. People with full knowledge are getting jobs. They are getting everything for which they worked hard in their school and college days when you were just clubbing and wasting your money over cigarettes and alcohol. When you were looking for casual dates amd hook-ups those people were keeping a check on their exam dates.
My brother (not writing the name or college's name for privacy) topped in his college and got 50+ LPA package from a well reputed company. His current salary is 4.5 lakhs per month. He is living his dream life. And all because of the hard work and time he putted in his studies (and yeah surprisingly not because of his luck.)
The whole purpose of this rant was to make y'all aware that unless you aren't working hard you shouldn't yapp about not having a dream job or dream life you kept dreaming of. Thanks. Have a happy and healthy life. And start studying MFs <3

2024.05.22 01:41 Lovelyhumpback Canada: N.B. Liberal MP calls for loosened right whale protection measures to help fishermen

While looking at whale-related news today, the following article grabbed my attention: N.B. Liberal MP calls for loosened right whale protection measures to help fishermen CBC News
Link: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/n-b-liberal-mp-calls-for-loosened-right-whale-protection-measures-to-help-fishermen-1.7209306
Summary: New Brunswick Liberal MP Serge Cormier has called for a loosening of North Atlantic right whale protection measures to support local fishermen facing economic challenges. The current measures, implemented to protect the critically endangered species, include fishing gear restrictions and area closures. Cormier argues that these regulations are too stringent and harm the fishing industry, suggesting a more balanced approach. Environmental groups, however, emphasize the necessity of these protections to prevent further decline of the whale population, which is already critically low.
This is important news for us Canadian whale lovers. If you live in Canada, please urge your Member of Parliament to take a stand against this idea, and stand with the endangered North Atlantic right whales instead. I have included an email template below, which you can send to your electoral district's MP. Here is a link to a Government of Canada tool to find your local MP: https://www.ourcommons.ca/Members/en
Here is the email template:
Dear Mr./Ms./Mx. [Member of Parliament's last name],
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent proposal by Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier to loosen protection measures for the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale, as detailed in the following CBC article: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/n-b-liberal-mp-calls-for-loosened-right-whale-protection-measures-to-help-fishermen-1.7209306
While I understand the significant challenges faced by our fishermen as a result of these protective measures, I firmly believe that the survival of this magnificent species must remain a top priority for Canada.
The North Atlantic right whale population is already on the brink of extinction, with fewer than 350 individuals remaining. Easing the current protective measures could lead to increased whale entanglements and vessel strikes, further threatening their survival. The consequences of such actions are irreversible and would tarnish Canada's commitment to biodiversity and environmental stewardship.
Additionally, Canada has legal obligations under the Marine Mammal Protection Act to ensure the conservation and protection of marine mammals. Weakening these protections would not only endanger the right whale further but also compromise Canada's adherence to international conservation standards and agreements.
I urge you to oppose any measures that would weaken the protections for the North Atlantic right whale. Instead, I encourage you to advocate for alternative solutions that can both support our fishermen and ensure the continued survival of the right whale. These could include:
  1. Investment in Whale-Safe Fishing Gear: Support the development and adoption of innovative fishing technologies that minimize the risk to marine life.
  2. Enhanced Monitoring and Enforcement: Strengthen the monitoring of fishing activities and enforce stricter penalties for violations of whale protection regulations.
  3. Collaborative Solutions: Foster collaboration between scientists, conservationists, and the fishing industry to develop sustainable practices that protect both the whales and the livelihoods of our fishermen.
The survival of the North Atlantic right whale is a critical issue that requires our immediate attention and action. I trust that you, as a member of the Liberal Party, will stand for the preservation of our natural heritage and oppose any measures that compromise the protection of this endangered species. Our actions today will determine the fate of the right whale and reflect our values as a nation committed to the conservation of our planet's precious biodiversity.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to hearing about the steps you will take to ensure the right whale is safeguarded for future generations.
Sincerely,
[Your Full Name] [Your Address] [Your City, Province, Postal Code] [Your Email Address] [Your Phone Number]
Thank you to everyone who is participating in conservation efforts! I made the very same post on whales. Feel free to repost this on other subs dedicated to whales and conservation to protect our friends!

2024.05.22 01:27 jsimait1 The Mimic of Warner Castle

Chapter 1: The Journey from Ireland

In the early 1980s, the McAllister family immigrated from Ireland to the United States, hoping for a fresh start. Maeve McAllister, the eldest daughter, had always felt out of place in her homeland. Born with autism, Maeve often found herself isolated and misunderstood. While other children played together, she preferred the solitude of her backyard, where she could immerse herself in her imagination. The neighborhood children, however, were less understanding, frequently mocking her for her differences.
Maeve's parents, Patrick and Moira, believed that America would offer their daughter a better chance at acceptance and a fulfilling life. They settled in Rochester, New York, where Patrick found work as a construction worker, and Moira took up sewing. Maeve, in her early twenties, secured a position as a caretaker at the historic Warner Castle, a stone mansion with sprawling gardens and a mysterious past.

Chapter 2: A New Beginning

Warner Castle was a gothic marvel, its stone walls and towering spires standing as a testament to a bygone era. Maeve found solace in her work, tending to the gardens and maintaining the old building. The castle's tranquility was a stark contrast to her turbulent childhood, and she began to feel a sense of belonging she had never known before.
Despite the comfort of her new surroundings, Maeve couldn't shake the feeling of unease that sometimes crept into her thoughts. She had heard whispers about a new phenomenon spreading through Rochester: the super mutant X gene called The Catalyst. It was said to grant extraordinary abilities to those it affected, but its true nature remained shrouded in mystery.

Chapter 3: A Night of Tragedy

One stormy night, as Maeve's parents drove through the rain-soaked streets of Rochester, tragedy struck. Their car collided with a tractor-trailer, flipping over and crashing onto the roadside. Patrick and Moira did not survive the accident, leaving Maeve alone in a foreign land, with only the castle as her refuge.
Devastated by the loss of her parents, Maeve poured herself into her work, finding solace in the routine. One evening, while cleaning the castle's dusty attic, she discovered an old, ornate chest. Intrigued by its intricate carvings and the aura of mystery it exuded, Maeve carefully opened the chest.

Chapter 4: The Catalyst Awakens

As Maeve lifted the lid, a brilliant light burst forth, enveloping her in its radiance. Unbeknownst to her, this chest had been infused with The Catalyst. The light merged with Maeve, transforming her body and mind. She felt an intense surge of energy, and when the light faded, she found herself fused with the chest, able to transform into a mimic at will.
Realizing her newfound abilities, Maeve adopted the name "Mymik." She could now seamlessly blend into her surroundings, taking on the appearance of inanimate objects or even other people. Her favorite form was that of her chest, which she could carry on her back as a backpack, allowing her to switch between her human and mimic forms effortlessly.

Chapter 5: The New Arrival

Years passed, and the castle changed hands. The new owners, the Thompsons, moved in with their young son, Ethan. Ethan Thompson, a curious and adventurous boy, loved to explore the castle's nooks and crannies. One day, while rummaging through the attic, he stumbled upon the chest that Maeve had once discovered.
As Ethan approached the chest, it sprang open, and Mymik emerged, startling the young boy. Despite his initial shock, Ethan quickly realized that Mymik was not a threat. Fascinated by her abilities and her story, Ethan became her confidant and friend.

Chapter 6: A New Purpose

With Ethan's encouragement, Mymik began to embrace her abilities and her new identity. She used her powers to protect the castle and its inhabitants, thwarting any who sought to exploit its secrets. Over time, Mymik and Ethan developed a bond that was more than just friendship; they became a team, dedicated to uncovering the mysteries of The Catalyst and ensuring that its power was used for good.
As Mymik's legend grew, she became a symbol of hope for others who felt different or out of place. Through her journey, Maeve McAllister had transformed from a misunderstood girl into a powerful guardian, finding her true purpose in the process.

Chapter 7: The Catalyst's Call

One day, a new threat emerged in Rochester, a rogue group seeking to harness The Catalyst's power for their own nefarious purposes. Mymik and Ethan knew they had to act. With the fate of their city hanging in the balance, they set out to confront the rogue group, determined to protect Rochester and the legacy of The Catalyst.
In their quest, they encountered other individuals who had been touched by The Catalyst, each with their own unique abilities. Together, they formed an alliance, a new generation of heroes united by a common cause. Mymik, once a solitary caretaker, now found herself at the heart of a movement that would change the world forever.
And so, the tale of Mymik and The Catalyst continued, a story of transformation, resilience, and the enduring power of hope.

2024.05.22 01:25 Onigiri___ Where to start investing at a young age?

I am a 24m who works in corporate America. I make around $75k annually, and have recently just paid off around $40k of student loans. I now have no debt to my name. During this time, I have not contributed anything to my retirement funds or HSA. I used all of my income to pay off my loans and supplement my daily spending. I live with my parents at the moment and they do not charge me rent.
Given I am still young and fortunate enough to have little to no bills of any kind, I want get into investing as I know my future self will thank me.
I have heard about ETFs like VOO, QQQ, and SCHD even crypto as well. Maxing out my Roth IRA, and to potentially start contributing money to my 401k and HSA. I currently have a little over $4k in an HYSA generating 5% interest but I am thinking I should be more aggressive with investing and less in my HYSA since I am young and have somewhat of a safety net by living with my parents.
My plan is to max out my Roth IRA with fidelity (FXAIX?), put the minimum amount to receive my company match for their 401k plan, and put some into my HSA. After this I am unsure about what to do next? I would hopefully like to move out soon and buy a new car (my car is a beater but it’s still going strong with maintenance, this is more of a want than a need). I would also like to entertain the idea of buying a house but am unsure of where to even start.
I suppose I am wondering, if you guys were in my shoes and wanted to build wealth and invest, how would you play this out?

2024.05.22 01:17 Jessper Need help with b2_get_upload_url

Hey guys,
Sorry for being beginner developer, but I managed to test all the API's from Backblaze until this one. I am able to authorize account and download file by name, but I can't make the request to get upload url work. I am getting an error code with status 401 that I have bad auth token, but I don't know how to provide it.
For b2_download_file_by_name, I provided it as a query parameter after the name of the file. For example: /file/containerName/fileName?Authorization={token}. That request worked fine.
For b2_get_upload_url, I need to provide bucketId as a query parameter in the URL according to the documentation, but it says that an authorization token needs to be provided as a header parameter. When I try to send a GET request to b2_get_upload_url=?bucketId={myBucketId}, I don't know how to provide an Authorization token. In the postman, the auto-generated header Authorization is not editable, so I can't add my token there. Could you please help me out with this one?

2024.05.22 01:16 Lovelyhumpback Canada: N.B.

Sincerely,

2024.05.22 01:16 Colonel_dinggus Can we have more text accessibility options?

I don’t play with my eyelids pressed to my tv screen thus making it difficult to read the names of certain tanks. Something like the is-7 is fine and easy to read but I probably won’t be able to fully make out something like “bassotto” or god forbid any of the mercenary tanks. I have to squint my eyes so I can see if I’m reading T-72bm or T-72bu. Honestly it was fine enough with the launch of 6.0 because it was very clear and easy to read with large sharp font. It was just in a weird spot and the whole thing just took up too much screen space.
Then they switched it back to what it was like before 6.0 and certain letters start to blur together with that fat ps3 generation font. Just some thinner, slicker font or a font size adjuster would be excellent and probably relatively easy to implement.
Also I can’t read my contract requirements without having to scroll over to the challenges menu and then scroll over again to the contracts sub-menu. Which if I’m in a platoon with a tank selected, I can’t scroll over to.
This is the only game I that I regularly play and have consistent visual issues with.

2024.05.22 01:13 Future_Energy_6590 Anyone considered a class action lawsuit against Enphase Energy for failure to make their new batteries backwards compatible with the IQ7+ system and 3/10T batteries?

I purchased an Enphase system almost exactly two years ago and decided to expand it by adding more panels. I currently have six 3.36kWh batteries (2 x 10T batteries) but due to Enphase’s microinverter to battery ratio I’m only able to add two more panels at which point I will have to add an additional battery to increase my ability to add the more panels. The problem is that I’m being told that the 3T and 10T batteries that are compatible with my IQ7+ microinverters and system controller are end of life and there is a new “5P” battery but it is not compatible with my current system. To use it I would basically have to scrap what I have. This system was a large investment, particularly the 10T batteries banks which were $10k each!
Anyone other Enphase customers running into this? It boggles my mind that a company like this would not have made a way for their customers to use newer batteries (the most expensive part of the system) with their pre-existing systems, which are not very old as it is in my case. They have left their existing customers with IQ7+ and the previous generation of batteries in a tough spot. From the fly by night installers to the manufacturers, they’re not giving this industry a very good name! To all those thinking about getting an Enphase system with 5P batteries now, you might think long and hard about it before you commit. You might get told your system is too old to expand in a short 1-2 years from now when whatever the new thing is comes out!!
